- 0:03Speaker 1: Welcome to Revealing Wholeness podcast dedicated to revealing the profound
- 0:06Speaker 1: connections between body, mind, and spirit, where we believe that
- 0:10Speaker 1: true wellness arises from addressing the root causes of our
- 0:13Speaker 1: health challenges, not just masking the symptoms. Here we dive
- 0:16Speaker 1: deep into how holistic approaches such as advanced chiropractic care,
- 0:20Speaker 1: personalized nutrition, and natural healing practices can transform your life.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Now Here is doctor Troy.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Hello and welcome. I'm doctor Troy. This is Part two
- 0:38Speaker 2: in high iron and Hemochromatosis. I wasn't planning on doing
- 0:42Speaker 2: a part two, but that you know what we talked
- 0:44Speaker 2: about kind of what things we should do to keep
- 0:49Speaker 2: iron out of the system, kind of like reducing iron intake,
- 0:53Speaker 2: obviously staying away from iron, cookwaar things like that, maybe
- 0:59Speaker 2: perhaps bine being iron with the milk thistle and things
- 1:02Speaker 2: of that nature, maybe giving blood as well as possibly
- 1:06Speaker 2: doing some liver clearing. But I didn't really go heavily
- 1:09Speaker 2: into what mineral deficiencies might be in place that would
- 1:15Speaker 2: consistently keep iron in the system. And so there are
- 1:18Speaker 2: things that will actually lend towards decreasing iron in the system.
- 1:24Speaker 2: But before we talk about that there is some big
- 1:29Speaker 2: concerns about high iron, and in adults, high iron can
- 1:34Speaker 2: very much lead to a number of conditions, and of
- 1:38Speaker 2: course the bigger issues there are things like heart disease
- 1:41Speaker 2: and cancer, and so iron becomes kind of a prominent
- 1:46Speaker 2: figure in terms of we want to make sure that
- 1:48Speaker 2: that's controlled. And what's interesting is my semi cancer clients
- 1:52Speaker 2: have indeed high iron and ferretin being excessively high. Is
- 1:57Speaker 2: this storage of iron and tissues which tends to cause problems,
- 2:01Speaker 2: and so we want to get that out of tissues
- 2:04Speaker 2: sooner the better. Now I am getting ready to discuss
- 2:09Speaker 2: some things that I have read in a book by
- 2:12Speaker 2: Larry Wilson, since he's pretty much the expert in mineral
- 2:19Speaker 2: interactions within each other in the body and how things work.
- 2:24Speaker 2: And of course Larry did a lot of his work
- 2:27Speaker 2: with hair mineral analysis. So if some of you thought about, hey,
- 2:30Speaker 2: I want to have a hair test and see what
- 2:32Speaker 2: my minerals are like. There are a few companies that
- 2:35Speaker 2: I will use. I tend to stay clear of companies
- 2:39Speaker 2: that wash the hair excessively or use chemicals. And yet
- 2:43Speaker 2: one of the companies that has been routinely advertised to me,
- 2:49Speaker 2: I guess that is the best way to put it
- 2:52Speaker 2: marketed to me is probably better way is one that
- 2:54Speaker 2: does use acetone to wash the hair, and I just disagree.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I don't think that it's a wise maneuver. And again,
- 3:02Speaker 2: if I guess if everything we did was off hair
- 3:06Speaker 2: washed with acetone, at least perhaps maybe we could make
- 3:10Speaker 2: mineral balances correct because we would atone for or attune
- 3:16Speaker 2: to the acetone washing away certain minerals. But we'd have
- 3:20Speaker 2: to figure out, well what minerals get washed away when
- 3:22Speaker 2: we wash hair with acetone. So the other question is, well,
- 3:27Speaker 2: how can I trust a hair mineral analysis if let's
- 3:30Speaker 2: say somebody's using shampoo that has selenium in it, like
- 3:34Speaker 2: Selson Blue. Well, now I'm going to have selenium off
- 3:36Speaker 2: the chart, and of course you do need to understand that.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And what I'll tell clients is that if you're going
- 3:41Speaker 2: to do a hair test, we don't want any product
- 3:45Speaker 2: on the hair, and we definitely don't want any coloring
- 3:48Speaker 2: or things of that nature. And a lot of women
- 3:50Speaker 2: and some men do color their hair, and so I
- 3:53Speaker 2: tell them, before your next coloring come in, and let's
- 3:57Speaker 2: make sure that we get kind of the short hair
- 4:00Speaker 2: is the back of your head, so that they are
- 4:03Speaker 2: not adulterated at all, or at least as little as
- 4:06Speaker 2: humanly possible. And then to wash the hair. I tell folks,
- 4:11Speaker 2: buy a natural organic bar soap and wash your hair
- 4:17Speaker 2: with it for at least a good week. And sometimes
- 4:21Speaker 2: you have doctors that will get pretty strict and say, hey,
- 4:23Speaker 2: at least two, if not four weeks, some six weeks
- 4:25Speaker 2: of washing with just no conditioners, nothing. They want just
- 4:30Speaker 2: natural bar soap that's got very few ingredients, that's just
- 4:34Speaker 2: as completely organic as you can. And that's fine. You
- 4:37Speaker 2: could be strict and or you can just say, hey,
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm going to do the very best I can and
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm going to be pretty clean. Great, that would be awesome.
- 4:45Speaker 2: So Larry talks about what lowers iron in the blood,
- 4:49Speaker 2: since we're dealing with a high iron situation. Are Number
- 4:53Speaker 2: one is zinc, and so zinc running the immune system
- 4:56Speaker 2: and zinc being stored in the liver would be important. Now,
- 5:00Speaker 2: we can't just stare at zinc because in order to
- 5:03Speaker 2: absorb zinc, if we have low zinc, we need B six,
- 5:06Speaker 2: and the good kind of B six, not the synthetic
- 5:09Speaker 2: kind that's in probably every supplement on the market. So
- 5:13Speaker 2: getting things in like liver, getting things in like egg
- 5:17Speaker 2: yolks and nutritional yeast and blackstrap molasses where we'd get
- 5:22Speaker 2: a whole host to be vitamins would be wise. And
- 5:25Speaker 2: so zinc itself we tend to think about, or at
- 5:28Speaker 2: least I do, as a gateway mineral. Once zinc gets
- 5:31Speaker 2: in the system, it tends to have a lot of
- 5:34Speaker 2: other minerals be absorbed and get in the system. And
- 5:39Speaker 2: why well, zinc running our immune system is super important,
- 5:42Speaker 2: and if high iron is going to mess up our
- 5:45Speaker 2: immune system, then it makes sense that zinc would be
- 5:47Speaker 2: probably the most important mineral that we could get into
- 5:50Speaker 2: the system. And again I will tell you that the
- 5:53Speaker 2: vast majority of zinc supplements out there are complete garbage
- 5:56Speaker 2: and don't bother taking them because they will just cause
- 5:58Speaker 2: more problems. Now, next is chromium, which I find interesting
- 6:03Speaker 2: is chromium is very much implicated in blood sugar management.
- 6:07Speaker 2: And what's fascinating is sugar actually raises iron in the blood.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Now we didn't talk about that in part one, but
- 6:15Speaker 2: if you have a high carb diet and you are
- 6:17Speaker 2: doing lots of sugar, you probably are lending to the
- 6:21Speaker 2: problem of why you have high iron in the blood.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Now that includes all forms of sugar like alcohol, glucose
- 6:29Speaker 2: sugar itself. You know, you just want to be careful. Now,
- 6:33Speaker 2: other things that can raise iron in the blood is copper,
- 6:38Speaker 2: and that is the core of the vitamin C complex.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It's not often that people will have an issue with
- 6:44Speaker 2: copper because they typically don't eat foods that are very
- 6:48Speaker 2: high in vitamin C, and that's most greens. But if
- 6:52Speaker 2: we get a ton of copper from like copper pipes,
- 6:55Speaker 2: copper bracelets, copper necklaces, copper rings, a copper or iud,
- 7:01Speaker 2: I mean, copper is just everywhere. I did a test
- 7:05Speaker 2: and I think I did a podcast on this about
- 7:08Speaker 2: six months ago. As I was testing water in my
- 7:10Speaker 2: house straight from the tap, cold water, and it registered
- 7:14Speaker 2: about an eighty six on this water testing meter, and
- 7:17Speaker 2: it was literally saying, okay, particulate per million whatever it
- 7:22Speaker 2: was sixty four or eighty four. And then I ran
- 7:25Speaker 2: the hot until it was as hot as it could
- 7:27Speaker 2: get and it read more than double. And I was like, wow,
- 7:32Speaker 2: that's a lot of copper going in the water, because
- 7:34Speaker 2: that's what's technically going to be there. Now, we could
- 7:37Speaker 2: say that you need to flush your hot water tank.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I suppose that might be true, and there might be
- 7:43Speaker 2: some particulate in there, but ultimately hot water tanks are
- 7:46Speaker 2: typically glass, and mine being glass as well, so I'm
- 7:50Speaker 2: not gonna hold out very much for that. But I
- 7:52Speaker 2: am going to suspect that the copper pipes that that
- 7:56Speaker 2: hot water flows through is leeching out the copper from
- 7:58Speaker 2: that pipes. Now, is an extra eighty parts per million
- 8:04Speaker 2: a big deal? Well, no, not at once, but over time. Yes,
- 8:08Speaker 2: And if you're showering in hot water, then you're probably
- 8:12Speaker 2: absorbing copper through your skin. That's metallic. Next is manganese. Now,
- 8:19Speaker 2: manganese I've done some podcasts on in the past, and
- 8:22Speaker 2: manganese is in a lot of wells in my particular neighborhood,
- 8:27Speaker 2: and so I deal with a lot of fat, flat
- 8:29Speaker 2: feet in my office, and so manganese is a ligament
- 8:33Speaker 2: strengthener or makes them taut, not tight. Though I want
- 8:38Speaker 2: to use the word tight. Most of us are can think, well,
- 8:40Speaker 2: I don't want to be tight, not tight like you know,
- 8:44Speaker 2: medically or sore. I've just worked in the yard. My
- 8:49Speaker 2: muscles are stiff, not tight like stiffness, but tight like
- 8:54Speaker 2: put together correctly, and they flex right without having too
- 8:57Speaker 2: much elasticity. So manganese super important in also helping keep
- 9:02Speaker 2: iron at a minimum, if you will, or at least
- 9:05Speaker 2: in the right saturation, in the right content and the
- 9:09Speaker 2: blood as well as in stored tissues. Now, next I
- 9:12Speaker 2: found interesting was egg protein. I thought, okay, well, egg protein,
- 9:16Speaker 2: that's fascinating. So the whites of eggs technically help keep
- 9:19Speaker 2: iron in check. Next would be nickel, and not the
- 9:23Speaker 2: metallic nickel. We do actually need nickel in its organic
- 9:28Speaker 2: form to run certain body processes, though it is considered
- 9:32Speaker 2: a trace mineral. Next is calcium, one of my favorites,
- 9:37Speaker 2: and as we get down the line, these are less
- 9:39Speaker 2: responsible for keeping iron at bay, if you will, And
- 9:44Speaker 2: so as we get to calcium and magnesium both okay,
- 9:47Speaker 2: these are not real awesome things to do for iron,
- 9:51Speaker 2: but they would be helpful. The other thing is a
- 9:53Speaker 2: vegetarian diet. So if you're a type A blood tat
- 9:57Speaker 2: type out there, and you know your type A and
- 10:00Speaker 2: you have a high iron situation, a vegetarian diet you
- 10:05Speaker 2: could do quite effortlessly. Now, why a vegetarian diet, well
- 10:09Speaker 2: number one is you're not eating red meat, and therefore
- 10:12Speaker 2: you're not getting the access to the iron, and that's
- 10:14Speaker 2: the big deal. So again, Type A blood types can
- 10:17Speaker 2: handle vegetarian diets, where OS tend to not do so
- 10:21Speaker 2: well doing that, So I don't necessarily recommend that for everyone.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And then last, I mean, if you really wanted to,
- 10:27Speaker 2: you could get cadmium in your body, which is a
- 10:30Speaker 2: heavy metal, and I don't recommend it, but cadmium tends
- 10:32Speaker 2: to bind to iron. So those are at least some
- 10:35Speaker 2: ideas as we go through that process of figuring out, hey,
- 10:38Speaker 2: how do I help my overall iron in my blood
- 10:44Speaker 2: if I've got too much? Now interestingly enough, B twelve,
- 10:50Speaker 2: which is commonly done to help iron, what will raise
- 10:54Speaker 2: iron in the blood only because if it's an iron
- 10:57Speaker 2: deficiency anemia, BE twelve can actually assists that. So it's
- 11:02Speaker 2: not like if I take B twelve, I'm gonna force
- 11:04Speaker 2: iron into the blood. It's not gonna work like that.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So if you're taking B twelve and you're thinking, oh
- 11:09Speaker 2: my gosh, I'm taking B twelve and I've got high iron,
- 11:11Speaker 2: this is really stupid. No, it doesn't work like that.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But follic acid would probably be a little bit more
- 11:17Speaker 2: helpful if you have high ferretin, which is the stored
- 11:20Speaker 2: iron we talked about, and you don't have a lot
- 11:23Speaker 2: of serum iron, so to move that ferratin out of
- 11:27Speaker 2: storage into the blood, yeah, we'd want some of those
- 11:30Speaker 2: minerals and some folic acid and some B twelve to
- 11:32Speaker 2: be present. And if we have high iron, like a
- 11:36Speaker 2: lot of my cancer folks, will we want to at
- 11:39Speaker 2: some point in time when they can tolerate it and
- 11:40Speaker 2: they feel like they're on this other side of healing,
- 11:43Speaker 2: that now they start to give blood to literally start
- 11:47Speaker 2: pulling that ferratin out of storage and making new red
- 11:50Speaker 2: blood cells. And that's a whole process in and of itself,
- 11:53Speaker 2: but that at least gets us, at least to this
- 11:55Speaker 2: point of understanding of how do we handle some high
- 11:59Speaker 2: iron situation in the blood and how can we help?
- 12:02Speaker 2: And again, I still have a strong conviction that it
- 12:05Speaker 2: is a lot of liver dysfunction when I'm dealing with
- 12:08Speaker 2: a high iron situation, that the liver is not expressing
- 12:11Speaker 2: it or getting rid of it like it should or could.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And again that's my own opinion until it's proven. We
- 12:18Speaker 2: can't really say that I'm right or wrong, and so
- 12:20Speaker 2: those are just things that I hold. But ultimately, if
- 12:24Speaker 2: indeed that milk thistle is a binder to iron, and
- 12:29Speaker 2: milk thistle is very liver protective and liver restorative, it
- 12:35Speaker 2: kind of makes sense that you're probably dealing with a
- 12:38Speaker 2: liver issue. Though that's just my thoughts. So I hope
- 12:41Speaker 2: that was helpful. Until next time, I'm doctor Troy, and
- 12:44Speaker 2: remember there is way more right with you than there
- 12:47Speaker 2: is wrong with you.
