Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: The sun is shining out a cloud in the sky.
- 0:05Speaker 1: We wouldn't know because we're so happy inside.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Some people on some skis, but.
- 0:14Speaker 1: We would rather sit on down and talk some movies.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We're the Avid Indoorsmen. Come listen to our show. We're
- 0:22Speaker 1: the Avid Indoorsmen. At home boe around the goal. We're
- 0:26Speaker 1: the Avid Indoorsmen. We hope you love it, so come
- 0:31Speaker 1: on in and stay. We'll do our best to make
- 0:35Speaker 1: you smile. Indoors man, what is happening?
- 0:42Speaker 3: I'm Rob Lundquist and I'm Boots and we are the
- 0:46Speaker 3: Avid Indoorsman. Hello everyone, Hello, how are you sir?
- 0:53Speaker 2: You know I'm doing just fine, buddy, just living the
- 0:56Speaker 2: dream over here. I guess, uh, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I just talked to you last night. I'm trying to
- 1:01Speaker 2: think of what's new. I don't know.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Well, you didn't talk to me about your time back
- 1:06Speaker 3: at home. Do you do anything fun up there?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:07Speaker 3: It was lovely.
- 1:08Speaker 2: We played a lot of cards, We hung out. Yeah,
- 1:14Speaker 2: we ate a lot of good food as always because
- 1:17Speaker 2: it was.
- 1:17Speaker 3: The it was the deer's deer opener, deer opener up north.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm not a hunter myself, but I do like to
- 1:24Speaker 2: go and hang out with the crew and the fam.
- 1:27Speaker 2: They liked the hunting, so yeah, it was fun. We
- 1:30Speaker 2: had really good weather up there. It was very very nice,
- 1:34Speaker 2: because this time of year cannot be from time to try.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Did you guys get did they get any bucks?
- 1:40Speaker 2: A couple of people in the party got deer. One
- 1:43Speaker 2: buck I think, and then one do? I think? Is
- 1:48Speaker 2: where we're currently. I haven't talked to anybody lately, so
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't know if that's changed.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah. Not a big hunter either, but I do enjoy
- 1:56Speaker 3: some venison.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Oh yes, that's the part I really like. Yep, fan
- 2:00Speaker 2: and I'll help. We do like all our own processing
- 2:03Speaker 2: and stuff, so I'll help with that, you know, and
- 2:05Speaker 2: wrap it up to freeze it and all that good stuff.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So I'm not squeamish about that part. Uh yeah, just
- 2:10Speaker 2: not my thing. So I stayed inside and have the
- 2:13Speaker 2: treats for sure, I think, I really honestly. I had
- 2:19Speaker 2: hurt my knee a couple times in football in high school,
- 2:21Speaker 2: and so I couldn't hunt during those times. And I
- 2:24Speaker 2: was like, wait, so I didn't have to wake up
- 2:26Speaker 2: super early and like be out there, but I still
- 2:29Speaker 2: get to do all the other stuff like oh, okay,
- 2:31Speaker 2: I'm probably just gonna do this.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 2: So yeah, but how was your weekend? Pal?
- 2:38Speaker 3: It was pretty chill. You know. The kids didn't have
- 2:41Speaker 3: school on Thursday, Friday or Monday, and so it was like,
- 2:46Speaker 3: and Kelsey was sick. She was supposed to go right
- 2:49Speaker 3: to Chicago. I was expecting to not have her around anyway.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but then.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I was kind of taking care of her and
- 2:58Speaker 3: the kiddos, and it was so it was a lot.
- 3:00Speaker 3: It was a lot.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I feel like that's also kind of awkward because
- 3:03Speaker 2: like you're like, well, I know mom is here, but
- 3:06Speaker 2: also let's not bugger earlier.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah right, yeah, and all that, we got out of
- 3:12Speaker 3: the house. We got out of the house a bit
- 3:13Speaker 3: and we went bowling fun, which was kind of fun.
- 3:18Speaker 3: It was great. I beat them so bad.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, they still suck at that, huh.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Kelsey was texting me. I was like, I brought the
- 3:27Speaker 3: kids bowling. You're like, how is it. I was like,
- 3:29Speaker 3: I beat them so bad, and she just was just
- 3:32Speaker 3: like shaking her head like yours, you are not smart. Boom.
- 3:40Speaker 3: They were using the bumpers. I didn't use the bumper
- 3:43Speaker 3: one time.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Bro are one pathetic loser.
- 3:52Speaker 3: It was fine. No, it's good, that's fun.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I love it nice. I bet they really liked a
- 3:59Speaker 2: little daddy time.
- 4:01Speaker 3: They did. And we had some movie nights and stuff. Oh,
- 4:04Speaker 3: speaking of what was the last movie you watch?
- 4:08Speaker 2: What a seamless segue? I went to the theater and Venom
- 4:14Speaker 2: the Last Dance.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Oh bummer.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it kind of was. Honestly, that's all I've heard.
- 4:21Speaker 2: It's not the worst movie I've ever seen by any means.
- 4:25Speaker 2: It's not Megalopolis, but it was not good either. And actually,
- 4:31Speaker 2: at one point, because we went kind of late, we
- 4:33Speaker 2: did a doubleheader. This was the same day that I
- 4:35Speaker 2: saw Honora. We we then went and had dinner. It
- 4:40Speaker 2: was posting. Dave and myself went at dinner, watched the
- 4:44Speaker 2: Wolves game, and then went to a movie after that,
- 4:47Speaker 2: and it was what a day. Well, it was a
- 4:49Speaker 2: great day, but I was a little sleepy by the
- 4:51Speaker 2: end of it. And at one point I was like,
- 4:54Speaker 2: did I nark out for a second here? Because this
- 4:57Speaker 2: plot makes no sense? And then I was like, no,
- 4:59Speaker 2: I don't. I did. I think it just doesn't make
- 5:01Speaker 2: a lot of sense. And that's fine, I guess. So
- 5:07Speaker 2: the big thing I'll say about this movie, and it's
- 5:09Speaker 2: the same thing I've said about all the other ones.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Tom Hardy makes it so much better than it has
- 5:14Speaker 2: any right to be, because he's great and he's like
- 5:17Speaker 2: really working it, you know what I mean, Like he's
- 5:20Speaker 2: trying hard. Chew would tell Edgiphoor is in it. He's wonderful.
- 5:26Speaker 2: What's her name, Juno Temple is in it.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Oh, she's great.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah, all kinds of stuff going on out here. But
- 5:35Speaker 2: the storyline is just I mean, it's just nonsensical and
- 5:40Speaker 2: a lot of whistling, just as which is a bummer
- 5:42Speaker 2: because I really like Venom, and I liked the first
- 5:44Speaker 2: one quite a lot. If I remember, right.
- 5:46Speaker 3: That was a third one, right, this is the third one.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't remember. I should have known better,
- 5:51Speaker 2: but I don't remember anything from the second one, and
- 5:54Speaker 2: that's probably not a great sign, you know, I was.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I remember being underwhelmed by the second one as well.
- 6:01Speaker 2: So yeah, but you know, it was a thing. We
- 6:05Speaker 2: did it. It was it was pretty fun.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Uh.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I guess I would just say wait for it on
- 6:10Speaker 2: streaming if you want to see it, just wait because
- 6:12Speaker 2: it's uh, it's not Morbius bad, but it's not great. Okay,
- 6:17Speaker 2: it's not great.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I haven't seen any of them yet.
- 6:20Speaker 2: So oh, the first one pretty fun. Honestly, the first
- 6:23Speaker 2: one is pretty fun. I like it, okay, but yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 2: how about you? What have you been watching?
- 6:29Speaker 3: Kels and I watched a movie while the kids watched
- 6:32Speaker 3: Despicable Me for the twentieth time.
- 6:34Speaker 2: The other night, I love it.
- 6:36Speaker 3: We went over to Prime and watched the new Prime
- 6:40Speaker 3: original My Old Ass. Oh yeah, featuring Aubrey Plaza. Yes,
- 6:46Speaker 3: she was the only person I knew and she actually
- 6:50Speaker 3: wasn't in it a ton Oh it's based It's based
- 6:54Speaker 3: around this girl who is getting ready to go to college,
- 6:57Speaker 3: played by an actress named Mazie Stella, and she was
- 7:01Speaker 3: really good. She and her friends decide to take some
- 7:04Speaker 3: hallucinogenics and she has a conversation with her older self.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Oh fun.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Her older self is played by Aubrey Plaza. Oh, she's
- 7:15Speaker 3: so wonderful. I'm just such a big fan, and I
- 7:18Speaker 3: feel like she keeps picking things that are pretty fun. Although,
- 7:22Speaker 3: wasn't she and Megalopolis?
- 7:25Speaker 2: She was, but she was actually the best part of
- 7:26Speaker 2: that movie too.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Okay.
- 7:28Speaker 2: The problem with Megalopolis was none of the actors that
- 7:32Speaker 2: was also a story that was like a fever dream
- 7:36Speaker 2: wrapped in a wet fart like. It just didn't make
- 7:38Speaker 2: a lot of sense and it made me feel bad. Yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 2: I thought I'd did a giggle for wet fart, but
- 7:44Speaker 2: I guess not.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Okay, I'm just so used to you talking about wet
- 7:52Speaker 3: fart said, it doesn't phaze me anymore.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yes, it is bugeuse I'm speaking too.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Okay, great, but yes, it was pretty funny. Man was
- 8:04Speaker 3: way better than I was expecting. There's some sentimental things
- 8:10Speaker 3: that happen. I mean, it was really good. I really
- 8:14Speaker 3: enjoyed it a lot. I would highly recommend. I know
- 8:18Speaker 3: that you especially will love it.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I can't wait to see it. I might watch it
- 8:22Speaker 2: this very evening because that sounds really fun. I also
- 8:26Speaker 2: saw this is not what I watched, but just as
- 8:28Speaker 2: a't aside, there's a it looks like a fun little
- 8:31Speaker 2: Chris Pine movie on Hulu that looks kind of fun
- 8:34Speaker 2: where he's like a pool Man or something. The pool
- 8:38Speaker 2: Boy should have had the name hold on, hang on.
- 8:41Speaker 2: This was definitely worth it. Pretty glad I was prepared.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So well it's called pool Man. Okay, Well, here we
- 8:50Speaker 2: are here we are. It turns out I was.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I don't know anything about that.
- 8:55Speaker 2: It also has a rating of four, so maybe don't
- 8:58Speaker 2: listen to me.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Maybe don't check that out. I would imagine that my
- 9:02Speaker 3: old ass is doing pretty well. It was written and
- 9:05Speaker 3: directed by a woman who is also an actress, and
- 9:10Speaker 3: she did the movie. It was called The Fallout with
- 9:13Speaker 3: Jenna Ortega. She also wrote and directed that. She's doing
- 9:18Speaker 3: really well for herself. This movie is great, like.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And she wrote this too, by the way, Yeah, I
- 9:24Speaker 2: wrote and directed that. I'm sorry. Yeah. Fun.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Well that's so check it out, man, it's on Prime.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Oh. She was in what If, that movie that I
- 9:34Speaker 2: really like with.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Uh Daniel Radcliffe and Kazan Kazan.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Yes, yes, good and stuff. You're so good. I love
- 9:44Speaker 2: it nice. I'll have to check all of that out.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Check it out, my old ass.
- 9:50Speaker 2: And it's just a great clip. It's a great name
- 9:53Speaker 2: as well. Mile check it out my old ass. I
- 9:57Speaker 2: just said my old ass last night in the regular
- 10:00Speaker 2: stream of conversation because I was like, these Timberwolves West
- 10:03Speaker 2: Coast games are it's too late.
- 10:06Speaker 3: For a month, too late for my old ass. Yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 3: I'm getting too old for this.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Anyway, Sorry, what have you been streaming?
- 10:15Speaker 2: I think we've talked about this number of times, but
- 10:17Speaker 2: I just want to just once again say, Shrinking on
- 10:20Speaker 2: Apple TV Plus is just so good. I really really
- 10:25Speaker 2: like it a lot. I think I am caught up
- 10:29Speaker 2: for season two. I'm enjoying season two even more than
- 10:32Speaker 2: season one so far. I just think it's great. I
- 10:37Speaker 2: just really like it a lot. So I couldn't remember
- 10:39Speaker 2: if I'd talked about it yet, so I just thought
- 10:40Speaker 2: I throw it.
- 10:41Speaker 3: In now, Yeah you did. You said you had started
- 10:44Speaker 3: it and they haven't introduced anybody new, have theirs? It
- 10:48Speaker 3: still just the same old cast.
- 10:50Speaker 2: A character they have introduced to someone new. But I
- 10:55Speaker 2: don't think I should tell you, all right, don't tell me.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I don't think I should, but it is someone I
- 10:59Speaker 2: want to be watching it from previous projects. I've said
- 11:03Speaker 2: too much. I've said too much. I've said too much.
- 11:05Speaker 2: But it's it's really great and I think, uh, it's
- 11:09Speaker 2: like my favorite thing Harrison Ford has done in a
- 11:11Speaker 2: long time. I think he's really particularly wonderful in it. Yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 2: he really.
- 11:17Speaker 3: It just seems like Harrison Ford agreed, agreed, kind of crotchety,
- 11:22Speaker 3: but still has a pretty good sense of humor, and
- 11:25Speaker 3: people can't.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Help but like him kind of you know almost they
- 11:29Speaker 2: respect him so much.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, I like that, but and they want his approval,
- 11:34Speaker 3: especially Jason Siegel, so much, and he's just yeah, he
- 11:40Speaker 3: doesn't really give it up too easily, and it's kind
- 11:42Speaker 3: of grumpy and yeah, I would agree.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And you know, it's one of these like dramedy kind
- 11:47Speaker 2: of things because like it's gonna make you cry, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 2: like various ports, but it's it's got a lot of
- 11:53Speaker 2: heart to it, which is great. I like that a
- 11:55Speaker 2: lot of Yeah. How about you? What have you been streaming?
- 11:59Speaker 3: I was also over Apple TV Plus and I watched
- 12:03Speaker 3: the new series created and directed by Alfonso Coiron who
- 12:09Speaker 3: called Disclaimer, featuring Kate Blanchette, Yes, and Sasha Baron Cohen
- 12:18Speaker 3: in a serious role.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Did you watch the whole thing?
- 12:21Speaker 3: I watched the whole thing?
- 12:23Speaker 2: Binge that thing I get.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I watched it in like three or four days. It's
- 12:29Speaker 3: seven episodes. They're not quite an hour long.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I would say it's a drama mystery thriller, lovely and
- 12:41Speaker 3: the main thing, without saying too much, is that Kate
- 12:45Speaker 3: Blanchette is married to Sasha Baron Cohen and she's been
- 12:49Speaker 3: keeping a secret for like twenty years. Oh my, Kevin
- 12:54Speaker 3: Klein's wife decides to write a book about her secret
- 12:58Speaker 3: and terrorize her in her face. I'm like, oh no,
- 13:02Speaker 3: it is intense. The acting and the direction was incredible.
- 13:10Speaker 3: It was very well made.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Cool.
- 13:12Speaker 3: It is going to be up forwards. I was so impressed.
- 13:16Speaker 3: And there was a a woman named Layla George in
- 13:20Speaker 3: it who was also she plays Kate Blanchette, who's twenty
- 13:24Speaker 3: years younger.
- 13:26Speaker 2: She was cool as well. So big fan, amazing love that,
- 13:32Speaker 2: huh to check that out. I've been, like I said,
- 13:35Speaker 2: I've seen a lot of ads for it on the
- 13:37Speaker 2: Apple TV Plus. So that's wonderful.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I hadn't. I felt like I hadn't seen Kevin
- 13:42Speaker 3: Klein in forever. He's so good. Kate Blanchette is always good,
- 13:47Speaker 3: but she really is incredible.
- 13:50Speaker 2: That's good.
- 13:50Speaker 3: It's good man. It's stuck with me for a while.
- 13:52Speaker 2: That's really great. I'll have to check that out for sure.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Well what do you think sh would do if you
- 13:57Speaker 2: plug her ins? Yes? Nice? You guys can business as

- 14:44Speaker 3: is an extended version of every episode that we put out.
- 14:46Speaker 3: We'll do a top five draft that pertains to the
- 14:48Speaker 3: movie we're talking about, and for this one, we decigned
- 14:51Speaker 3: to do our top five favorite Stephen King movies.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Yeah, this was not an easy one for me. We're
- 15:00Speaker 2: going to make it work.
- 15:01Speaker 3: If we had a guest today, we would not have
- 15:04Speaker 3: been able to do this.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So yeah, so it worked right because I think you said, yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I've only seen eleven Stephen King movies.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, saying which seems impossible somehow, but also
- 15:18Speaker 2: I know made sense.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Once I looked at him. It makes sense because we're
- 15:23Speaker 3: not big horror guys.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:25Speaker 3: A lot of those are just.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I thought, feel like you know, exclusively did for so
- 15:29Speaker 2: long and it turns out he does other stuff. But
- 15:32Speaker 2: I digress. We'll get to that. Actually, we could probably
- 15:35Speaker 2: get to it right now because coming attractions we don't
- 15:37Speaker 2: know yet, So just be cool, be cool, it'll be
- 15:41Speaker 2: something fun. But we ran into another situation where we
- 15:43Speaker 2: had a plan and it's not available anywhere.
- 15:46Speaker 3: So that keeps happening. With all of the streaming services
- 15:49Speaker 3: that are out in the world and just being able
- 15:51Speaker 3: to rent and buy.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Thing and you can't.
- 15:54Speaker 3: There should be no weird reason why. It makes me
- 15:57Speaker 3: a little nervous about the future age and if I
- 16:01Speaker 3: should be having hard copies of things because the one
- 16:04Speaker 3: that we were going to be doing one of my
- 16:06Speaker 3: favorite movies of all time. Yeah, what if they just
- 16:09Speaker 3: never have it streaming? Then I'm sol.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there are ways. I just don't want
- 16:16Speaker 2: everyone to have to rely on that, So I'll take
- 16:19Speaker 2: care of you forever, Rob, don't you. They're pretty little
- 16:21Speaker 2: had about it, but tell you it does create some issues.
- 16:26Speaker 2: And I also don't really understand, like why what happens
- 16:29Speaker 2: that they're not somewhere like, Yeah, I don't get it.
- 16:32Speaker 2: It's strange. Anyway, we digress again, but we're here today
- 16:37Speaker 2: to talk about one of the Stephen King's movies that
- 16:39Speaker 2: isn't a horror film. We're here to talk about The
- 16:42Speaker 2: Green Mile, the Green Mele, celebrating it's twenty fifth. I
- 16:48Speaker 2: guess is what the years would be for this one?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Amazing and I just I can't wait any longer. So Rob,
- 16:55Speaker 2: will you get us started with a rough synopsies?
- 16:58Speaker 3: Sure, Paul Edgecombe walked the Mile with a variety of
- 17:03Speaker 3: cons He had never encountered someone like John Coffee, a
- 17:07Speaker 3: massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of
- 17:10Speaker 3: young sisters. Coffee had the size and strength to kill anyone,
- 17:15Speaker 3: but not the demeanor. Beyond his simple naive nature and
- 17:18Speaker 3: a deathly fear of the dark, Coffee seemed to possess
- 17:21Speaker 3: a prodigious supernatural gift. Paul began to question whether Coffee
- 17:27Speaker 3: was truly guilty of murdering the two girls.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Murder nice, nice job, that's great, that's granks.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Uh.
- 17:36Speaker 2: There was one point where I thought it was just
- 17:38Speaker 2: going to be like accused of murdering two girls and
- 17:40Speaker 2: that's it. When I was like, oom, we really went
- 17:43Speaker 2: bare bones. Let's go over to rotten tomatoes now a
- 17:47Speaker 2: score that I just looked up again because I was
- 17:49Speaker 2: concerned I wrote it down incorrectly.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Yeah, has happened again?
- 17:52Speaker 2: Critics have it coming in at seventy nine percent. That
- 17:56Speaker 2: don't make a link of sense to me.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Rob, No, again, wasn't an Interstellar that was in the seventies.
- 18:02Speaker 2: We're just like, what has happening? Yeah? I think that
- 18:04Speaker 2: was the Yeah, it was so weird, like what And
- 18:07Speaker 2: I thought this was critically acclaimed back in the day too,
- 18:10Speaker 2: But yeah, maybe I don't remember. I don't know audience
- 18:13Speaker 2: members though, they're right up there where I think it
- 18:15Speaker 2: belongs there at ninety four percent.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Rob, ninety four nice, that makes a lot more.
- 18:20Speaker 2: So, very fresh, very wonderful. Let's go in and get
- 18:25Speaker 2: our fresh take here. It's time for our hot take.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Hot take. Ooh, ouch, that's a hot take.
- 18:32Speaker 3: That's a hot take. Old sparky.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Gosh, nice, I was gonna go for a coffee riff. Nice.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I like that, like, oh coffee would have been getting
- 18:39Speaker 2: spelled ye, not the same episode. I will go first.
- 18:45Speaker 2: First of all, I really liked this movie back when
- 18:47Speaker 2: I originally saw it. I feel like I've seen it
- 18:50Speaker 2: maybe once since then. But it's been a long time
- 18:53Speaker 2: now since I watched this movie, So what a treat
- 18:55Speaker 2: to go back. What was not a treat was being like, ooh,
- 19:00Speaker 2: over three hours Heaven's to Betsy. It flew by way
- 19:04Speaker 2: faster than I thought though, Like it's still long for sure,
- 19:07Speaker 2: but it's a pretty compelling film. I think it is
- 19:10Speaker 2: a lovely, lovely film. Uh, just just wonderful. I really
- 19:16Speaker 2: like when Stephen King does bring in like mysticism or
- 19:20Speaker 2: magic into his stories. I think that's really cool the
- 19:23Speaker 2: way he does it, and he does it like just
- 19:26Speaker 2: to sprinkle, right, just to sprinkle to keep you like
- 19:29Speaker 2: intrigued and and see what's going on. It's a fun
- 19:31Speaker 2: little quirk. I wish that hand motion had a like
- 19:36Speaker 2: one of your things, right yeah, or just like it's
- 19:40Speaker 2: sprinkled like sparkling dust underneath it or something. Anyway, if
- 19:45Speaker 2: anybody prop get the crew on it. But yeah, I
- 19:50Speaker 2: just think it's super super fun this movie. Great score
- 19:53Speaker 2: in this and great music overall, like the old music
- 19:58Speaker 2: as well as the score. Super fun and wonderful. There's
- 20:01Speaker 2: like a bevy of wonderful actors that are a part
- 20:05Speaker 2: of this movie. Like really, truly, this is a like
- 20:10Speaker 2: a Slaughterhouse five situation of just like everyone's amazing. We'll
- 20:15Speaker 2: talk about that a ton later, and just the overall message.
- 20:20Speaker 2: And I found myself really being like, it was so
- 20:24Speaker 2: sad this time. I don't know. I mean, it was
- 20:26Speaker 2: sad anyway, but I don't know if it's just getting
- 20:29Speaker 2: older or whatever, but just like, man, there is injustice
- 20:33Speaker 2: in the world, and this dude is just taking the
- 20:37Speaker 2: brunt of it, and bless him, he's so wonderful. It
- 20:41Speaker 2: really reminded me. This maybe gets a little bit into,
- 20:45Speaker 2: you know, some actor stuff, but like, no, i'll talk
- 20:49Speaker 2: about that later. I love this movie. I think it's
- 20:51Speaker 2: super super wonderful. And maybe my hottest take is I
- 20:56Speaker 2: wish Mouseville was a thing, because that sounds kind of cool.
- 21:00Speaker 3: I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Mouseville at this point.
- 21:02Speaker 3: We should look at up.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Yeah, there probably is. There probably is. I don't I
- 21:06Speaker 2: don't really have a hot take other than that's good.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I don't know how I feel about the death penalty.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Oh sure, yeah I get that, but yeah, man, I
- 21:16Speaker 3: feel like the last like ten people that have been
- 21:20Speaker 3: put to death. There's like a a whole thing on
- 21:24Speaker 3: social media that are like, he is probably innocent, and
- 21:28Speaker 3: they try and get just like, is every single person
- 21:32Speaker 3: that is on this innocent? It freaks me out.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I don't. Yeah, And that's the part to me, is
- 21:36Speaker 2: just like, well, there's no going back, so like, how
- 21:38Speaker 2: do you ever make sure you're right about I don't
- 21:41Speaker 2: know anyway, Yeah, we don't need to get into all that.
- 21:44Speaker 3: It's a whole thing.
- 21:45Speaker 2: It's a whole thing, but it Yeah, I just think
- 21:48Speaker 2: this movie is it's pretty wonderful. I liked it a lot.
- 21:50Speaker 2: At the seventy nine percent, I don't get because it's
- 21:52Speaker 2: also like shot beautifully, like there's cool stuff that happens.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I don't know. Anyway, that's my hot take? What's your
- 21:59Speaker 2: hot tak?
- 22:01Speaker 3: This movie is amazing? I agreed. It is number twenty
- 22:06Speaker 3: seven on the IMDb Top two fifteen. It was nominated
- 22:10Speaker 3: for four Oscars for Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best
- 22:15Speaker 3: Supporting Actor for Michael Clark Duncan, and Best Picture. It
- 22:19Speaker 3: lost to all of them.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, did they win any of them? Okay,
- 22:23Speaker 2: not a wow.
- 22:25Speaker 3: This is a Stephen King short story, like we said,
- 22:28Speaker 3: and it was adapted and directed by Frank Darabot, who
- 22:31Speaker 3: previously took another Stephen King short story and made my
- 22:34Speaker 3: favorite movie, The Shawshankredemp.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's off to a good start. I like that.
- 22:39Speaker 3: He also ended up doing another Stephen King movie called
- 22:43Speaker 3: The Mist, or story called The Mist, which I never
- 22:46Speaker 3: ended up seeing. Oh, okay, cool, So do you likes
- 22:49Speaker 3: Stephen King? Agreed? The cast is incredible, so many amazing
- 22:54Speaker 3: supporting characters. Wild again. Thomas Newman score is beautiful.
- 23:00Speaker 2: With you.
- 23:00Speaker 3: It's a three hour movie, which I was going to
- 23:02Speaker 3: say was too long, But then when you think about
- 23:05Speaker 3: the film, everything that is put in there is setting
- 23:09Speaker 3: up something. At first, I was like, maybe we don't
- 23:12Speaker 3: need the Graham Green bit, even though he has this
- 23:15Speaker 3: kind of beautiful scene with Tom Hanks about what his
- 23:18Speaker 3: perfect day would be like. Yeah, but his execution shows
- 23:24Speaker 3: that you really need the sponge to be wet. Yep,
- 23:27Speaker 3: things go smoothly, smoothly if you if you do that.
- 23:31Speaker 3: And the only thing I could think of that you
- 23:32Speaker 3: could actually take out was maybe that scene where the
- 23:34Speaker 3: two couples get together, like Tom Hanks and his wife
- 23:37Speaker 3: and the warden and his wife. But that's where we
- 23:41Speaker 3: see how sick she is.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it kind of ruins that whole thing then, and.
- 23:46Speaker 3: It makes it. It shows you how close Paul is
- 23:49Speaker 3: to the warden and why you would want to help.
- 23:51Speaker 2: You as well.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Yes, so I was trying to. I was really like,
- 23:56Speaker 3: what can we take out? Because it feels long, and
- 23:59Speaker 3: I don't think you can. I don't think you can
- 24:01Speaker 3: take anything.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Out, agreed, because you can't take out any of the
- 24:04Speaker 2: mouse stuff either. One that shows us the magic and
- 24:08Speaker 2: two it's so important to the like bookending, the flash
- 24:12Speaker 2: forward stuff or you know what I mean, like the
- 24:15Speaker 2: older characters and all that. I just don't think you
- 24:17Speaker 2: can get rid of that, I know. Yeah, so it
- 24:20Speaker 2: is one.
- 24:20Speaker 3: It just it builds these characters, like the character development,
- 24:24Speaker 3: and this is beautiful.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Yes, because that's a big thing with that first execution
- 24:29Speaker 2: that I found was they treated him with such respect
- 24:33Speaker 2: despite like whatever happened right in life, and and I
- 24:37Speaker 2: love that even that guys like, yeah, I did terrible
- 24:40Speaker 2: things and like this is right and I regret it
- 24:43Speaker 2: or whatever, but they still treat people with respect, you know.
- 24:47Speaker 2: I just think I think that's beautiful and it's own
- 24:49Speaker 2: right too. Yeah, it just makes you love them more. So, Yeah,
- 24:52Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Nice.
- 24:54Speaker 3: But the movie's amazing. I boohooed so many times. So
- 24:58Speaker 3: it also been a long time since I had seen it.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I had a very nice revisit with this movie. Yeah,
- 25:04Speaker 3: my hottest take. Edward delacroix execution is one of the
- 25:09Speaker 3: most horrifying deaths I've ever seen in a movie. It's
- 25:12Speaker 3: and it's so hard to work.
- 25:13Speaker 2: It was so much worse than I thought or than
- 25:15Speaker 2: I remembered, you know what I mean. Like I was
- 25:17Speaker 2: just like, please, is it done yet?
- 25:20Speaker 3: This is awful, And especially because we end up liking
- 25:25Speaker 3: him so much, yes, that it hits even harder. It
- 25:28Speaker 3: was just like, oh no, I'm glad we didn't know
- 25:32Speaker 3: like what he did, what he was in there for, although.
- 25:35Speaker 2: He's a super good example and they even kind of
- 25:37Speaker 2: comment on it of like at least the interpretation I had,
- 25:42Speaker 2: He's not all there, right, And so then we get
- 25:44Speaker 2: into like, you know, as society, are we taking care
- 25:47Speaker 2: of people when they're at different points and development and
- 25:50Speaker 2: you know what I mean, like are we setting them
- 25:53Speaker 2: up to succeed? You know? But but again we don't
- 25:55Speaker 2: know what he did. So I'm with you on that, like, right,
- 25:57Speaker 2: who knows?
- 25:58Speaker 3: Which is good because we had some empathy and it
- 26:00Speaker 3: made that death scene.
- 26:02Speaker 2: So hard, so hard. Yes, yeah, I agree, it was brutal.
- 26:07Speaker 3: So yeah, in like a like a really beautiful drama.
- 26:12Speaker 3: That is maybe one of the most horrifying death scenes
- 26:14Speaker 3: I've ever seen.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Agree, that's a good that's my hottest that's a
- 26:18Speaker 2: good hot take. Honestly, that's really good. Nice, nice done. Well,
- 26:22Speaker 2: let's go in and talk about our favorite acting performance.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Shall we name the dude the dude?
- 26:28Speaker 2: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
- 26:31Speaker 2: know that, or his dudeness or duder or you know,
- 26:36Speaker 2: el dud reno. If you're not into the whole brevity thing,
- 26:39Speaker 2: I need you to go first because I'm having a
- 26:41Speaker 2: hard time.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I think that normally I would always pick Tom Hanks.
- 26:48Speaker 2: I think we're on the exactly the same Patreo then,
- 26:50Speaker 2: because that's how I was going to start it.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Honestly, this movie just doesn't hit unless you have Michael
- 26:56Speaker 3: Clark Duncan as John Coffee.
- 26:59Speaker 2: He's wonderful.
- 27:01Speaker 3: He's so good in this movie. And you know, I'd
- 27:04Speaker 3: seen him in like Armageddon and he was just kind
- 27:08Speaker 3: of a goofy dude, just like he brought it.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Man.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it was so cool, all the stuff they did
- 27:16Speaker 3: with him to make him seem so much bigger than everyone,
- 27:19Speaker 3: so effect that's larger than life. But man, he just
- 27:26Speaker 3: he made me boohoo so much in this movie. It's
- 27:29Speaker 3: just so beautiful. And then he even made me laugh
- 27:31Speaker 3: a couple of times. He's like, you know when he
- 27:33Speaker 3: gets the corn bread and he's like, you know, right exactly,
- 27:41Speaker 3: like he's not going to give it to Sam Rockwell's character,
- 27:44Speaker 3: such a jerk.
- 27:45Speaker 2: That's pretty good. Yeah, I don't know, he just he
- 27:49Speaker 2: blew me away, uh, super agreat again taking nothing away
- 27:54Speaker 2: from your you know, very close personal friend Tom Hanks,
- 27:58Speaker 2: but who I think does show off like why he's
- 28:04Speaker 2: so good and so like honorable and respectable that like
- 28:09Speaker 2: you totally see why the other guards really revere him.
- 28:12Speaker 2: You see why the inmates do too, you know what
- 28:14Speaker 2: I mean, Like all these people love all that. But yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 2: Michael Clark Duncan man, he's for one, he's he already
- 28:23Speaker 2: is a giant dude, but they make him look so
- 28:26Speaker 2: much bigger. And then he's even bigger in like emotional stature,
- 28:31Speaker 2: right because he is like this, he's not simple, but
- 28:35Speaker 2: he's also not like you know, his brain has been
- 28:40Speaker 2: I don't know. I took it as like doing this
- 28:43Speaker 2: magic or whatever takes something out of a person slash.
- 28:47Speaker 2: He's an angel, maybe sent from heaven or something like,
- 28:51Speaker 2: and so he has like a limited memory. It actually
- 28:54Speaker 2: made me think surprisingly a lot about the Lord of
- 28:56Speaker 2: the Rings, because like when the various wizards come down,
- 29:01Speaker 2: they often don't remember who they are or what their
- 29:04Speaker 2: job is, you know, like when Gandalf turns back, he
- 29:07Speaker 2: forgets you know, Gandalf the Gray and all that stuff.
- 29:10Speaker 2: So it was kind of a fun mysticism there.
- 29:13Speaker 3: I mean, I think they're kind of going for that
- 29:15Speaker 3: he's an angel, just because like they even when he
- 29:19Speaker 3: has his one meeting with Garyne, you'd think that we'd
- 29:23Speaker 3: be able to figure out where he was before, but
- 29:26Speaker 3: there's no record to him anywhere when I think he even.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Says like it's almost like he dropped right out of
- 29:30Speaker 2: heaven or something, right, But yeah, I just think and
- 29:35Speaker 2: his emotional depth is so great because he is filled
- 29:40Speaker 2: with such joy at various times, such fear, you know,
- 29:44Speaker 2: there's anger in him, there's you know, all the things right,
- 29:48Speaker 2: and he's just he's just wonderful in this role. I
- 29:51Speaker 2: love him so much. I think it's it's great.
- 29:55Speaker 3: So Tom Hanks is amazing too. Agree Me's this movie
- 30:00Speaker 3: doesn't work without him either.
- 30:02Speaker 2: That's true. And if we want to give him a
- 30:03Speaker 2: duel dude, that's fine. Either way, it doesn't matter. But yeah,
- 30:07Speaker 2: I just love that. And it's a bumbler that we
- 30:09Speaker 2: lost Michael Clark Duncan kind of a long time ago
- 30:12Speaker 2: now too right, spent a minute. Yeah, I guess he's
- 30:15Speaker 2: such a giant dude though. But but yeah, let's like
- 30:20Speaker 2: we said, the rest of the cast is incredible as well.
- 30:23Speaker 3: So let's go, let's pick. Why don't you start with
- 30:28Speaker 3: this one?
- 30:29Speaker 2: Okay, I don't want to give him this, but I
- 30:33Speaker 2: hate Doug Hutchinson so much in this movie or Hutchison,
- 30:37Speaker 2: I don't think he is. I hate him so much
- 30:41Speaker 2: in this movie that he obviously did a great job.
- 30:44Speaker 2: But I don't even like giving him credit because that's
- 30:48Speaker 2: how much I hate that stupid character.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Person I feel the exact same way. But he was
- 30:54Speaker 3: so good in this movie, wonderful.
- 30:56Speaker 2: The thing I didn't remember is he's also wonderful again,
- 31:01Speaker 2: still kind of in a d bag kind of way,
- 31:03Speaker 2: but like when he's scared of being ridiculed and he's
- 31:09Speaker 2: angry and like takes out his revenge on our you know,
- 31:13Speaker 2: mister Jangles and all that stuff, Like he's so good
- 31:16Speaker 2: and all that. So it's more, it's it's a little
- 31:19Speaker 2: less one note than I actually remembered, to be honest,
- 31:21Speaker 2: because I just remembered I hated him.
- 31:23Speaker 3: You know, dude, that scene where he has been put
- 31:28Speaker 3: into the restraints and they come back and they're like,
- 31:33Speaker 3: all right, so we're gonna we're gonna let you out,
- 31:36Speaker 3: and but you know you got to play nice, yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 3: and you know, because we know people too, but you know,
- 31:44Speaker 3: he's like so mad in the beginning, and then he's
- 31:46Speaker 3: just like can you let me out now or whatever,
- 31:48Speaker 3: and you just see like one tear comes down.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Just like this guy is so good. Yeah, he's really great.
- 31:57Speaker 2: But I that character makes me so horrible, which is
- 32:00Speaker 2: good because we kind of need to hate him, right,
- 32:03Speaker 2: Like it's super necessary for all the stuff that's gonna happen,
- 32:08Speaker 2: So I get that. But also, yeah, he's just the
- 32:12Speaker 2: worst I know. So yeah, he gets my teuch, how
- 32:17Speaker 2: about you?
- 32:18Speaker 3: He honestly, I have the exact same He also got
- 32:21Speaker 3: my teach right, but with Sam Rockwell as a close second.
- 32:27Speaker 3: And this was the first time that I had remembered
- 32:31Speaker 3: seeing Sam Rockberry. Of course we know that he was
- 32:34Speaker 3: in Teenage Mutant Ninja Kurtis, but very.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Swaps like I get it, you're gonna bring it up
- 32:38Speaker 2: just I'm gonna get I'm gonna go ahead of this.
- 32:43Speaker 3: And I hadn't seen Galaxy Quest at the time, so
- 32:45Speaker 3: this was like I was like, who is this guy?
- 32:48Speaker 3: He is unbelieved The fact that we like kind of
- 32:55Speaker 3: like him is super messed up because he ends up
- 33:00Speaker 3: being maybe the devil.
- 33:02Speaker 2: He's a monster.
- 33:04Speaker 3: He's an absolute monds.
- 33:05Speaker 2: He kind of goes to bat for for Michael Jeter
- 33:08Speaker 2: a little bit, like because when he's given him a
- 33:11Speaker 2: hard time, he grabs Percy, you know, and all that stuff.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Like he's definitely like a chaotic evil character, you know,
- 33:19Speaker 2: and he.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Was funny, like he was probably the funniest character.
- 33:23Speaker 2: The Moonpie thing was so silly Moonpie thing.
- 33:26Speaker 3: He just said, goofy ygree. Why do you think you
- 33:30Speaker 3: get it? And he's like, because I got a big pecker.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I have that written down.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, but I was really impressed with him.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I like that. Did you have any runners up?
- 33:48Speaker 3: Oh for sure. I mean this movie made me a
- 33:52Speaker 3: big fan of David morse Yes as Brutus brutal Howl. Yeah,
- 33:59Speaker 3: he's so good in this movie. I mean he's he's
- 34:03Speaker 3: good in everything. But yeah, he also played just like
- 34:08Speaker 3: this big guy doesn't really take any slack from anyone.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Also was all about the respect to these people and
- 34:18Speaker 3: treating them like humans. Yeah, I just I was impressed.
- 34:23Speaker 2: I loved him and he was such a great like
- 34:24Speaker 2: first lieutenant to Tom Hanks, you know what I mean. Yes,
- 34:28Speaker 2: it's perfect love that.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Yeah, who were some of yours?
- 34:33Speaker 2: Let's see write down. James Cromwell I think is just
- 34:37Speaker 2: basically always good.
- 34:39Speaker 3: He's the warden everything.
- 34:40Speaker 2: He's so good in this I like it is.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Yeah, when he has to when he breaks down about
- 34:45Speaker 3: his wife several times, well, Yeah, he's really.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Good, really really talented, like that guy a lot, that
- 34:53Speaker 2: Graham Green who you talked about earlier. I thought he's
- 34:56Speaker 2: was wonderful. I really like him. He's always good in
- 34:59Speaker 2: general too. Yeah, I'm with you. But this was a
- 35:02Speaker 2: hard part because he didn't get a lot of time.
- 35:06Speaker 2: But it's still hit right.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Like it hit. His monologue about his perfect day was beautiful,
- 35:12Speaker 3: so great, and just like, you know, if a man
- 35:16Speaker 3: really is sorry for what he's done, do you think, yeah,
- 35:19Speaker 3: you know, you think he can the question be forgiving.
- 35:22Speaker 2: We all have at some point, maybe you know what
- 35:24Speaker 2: I mean, like us flawed human beings. And then special
- 35:29Speaker 2: shout out to Brent Brisco, who I just think is
- 35:32Speaker 2: so great. So he's the other Guard. He's been in
- 35:36Speaker 2: a bunch of stuff over the years. I didn't write down.
- 35:40Speaker 3: What else was he The guy that onto, the guy
- 35:44Speaker 3: that pulls the not the.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Guy that pulls the lever. He's really only in like
- 35:49Speaker 2: when they bring him in to perform with the mouse,
- 35:52Speaker 2: he's like, you're gonna love this is a good show,
- 35:55Speaker 2: and he's like putting the guy. Yeah, he's so fun.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I love that guy's Larry.
- 36:00Speaker 2: He doesn't do a lot, but he always kind of
- 36:03Speaker 2: that like that like random funny character. I was looking
- 36:08Speaker 2: at his IMDb and I was like, I don't He's
- 36:11Speaker 2: in so many things, that's it, you know what I mean,
- 36:16Speaker 2: Like it's just it's just funny. He's been working forever.
- 36:19Speaker 2: He's got like a hundred credits or something, so like
- 36:23Speaker 2: he's just I don't know, he's just great. I really
- 36:25Speaker 2: like that.
- 36:25Speaker 3: That's amazing because there's so many other actors like Michael Jeter,
- 36:32Speaker 3: he was really good, wonderful. Bonnie Hunt is always good
- 36:36Speaker 3: and everything. I'm a big fan of her. Barry Pepper,
- 36:40Speaker 3: this was kind of like the time of Barry Pepper,
- 36:44Speaker 3: this saving Private Ryan. He was also incredible in that
- 36:47Speaker 3: twenty fifth hour movie. I was super into Barry Pepper.
- 36:53Speaker 3: And I feel like I haven't seen him much late.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Has he done much lately? I don't even know. I'm
- 36:57Speaker 2: not said.
- 36:57Speaker 3: I feel like the last thing I saw him do
- 36:59Speaker 3: was there was a movie about Mickey Mantle and Roger
- 37:04Speaker 3: Marris called sixty one, and that is the last thing
- 37:08Speaker 3: I can remember. But dude, he was so good in
- 37:11Speaker 3: that scene when the prosecuting John coffee and he's just bawling.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I mean, I liked him before that, but that scene
- 37:17Speaker 2: I was like, bro, you're bringing it like this, everybody's
- 37:21Speaker 2: bringing it, which is so fun.
- 37:25Speaker 3: The warden's wife, Patricia Clarkson, she's a she's a wonderful actress.
- 37:30Speaker 3: We have Harry Dean Stanton.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he was so good. Yeah, love that.
- 37:40Speaker 3: We got Gary Sonise who's been with Tom Hanks in
- 37:44Speaker 3: like fifty movies. Well maybe three movies, but still. And
- 37:51Speaker 3: then we got the dude from shaw Shank, William Sadler,
- 37:55Speaker 3: who's been in some other things. He was the dad
- 37:58Speaker 3: of the two girls.
- 38:00Speaker 2: He's great. He's so good about him.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I don't know.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Jeffrey DeMont guy is also very good.
- 38:10Speaker 3: He is also in He's he's in every Frank thereabout film.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I don't remember him in Shashank for some reason. Yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 2: it's a smaller part maybe or something.
- 38:21Speaker 3: It's a smaller part. He is like talk. I feel
- 38:25Speaker 3: like he got showcased when that young guy played by
- 38:28Speaker 3: Gil Bellows comes in and and Andy Duffraan is like
- 38:34Speaker 3: tutoring him talk about stuff in there. Yeah, but anyways,
- 38:39Speaker 3: fun Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Again though, this this whole cast was just so great,
- 38:43Speaker 2: and there was no one in it that I was like, eh,
- 38:46Speaker 2: like everybody that had something to do, I was like, great, yap,
- 38:49Speaker 2: like the plumber guy. I was like, you're perfect, good work,
- 38:52Speaker 2: you know, like you're doing this is wonderful. I don't know.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and then the old actors too. I think the
- 38:58Speaker 3: one that played Tom Hanks dabbed something. I think he
- 39:02Speaker 3: was a pretty big actor back in the day.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Oh that's cool.
- 39:06Speaker 3: But yeah, and I think I saw this was his
- 39:10Speaker 3: last movie that he did.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Well, he did look quite old, so.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Yeah, well he's a hundred eight.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Looked great for a hundred that's true. We can only
- 39:18Speaker 2: dream of looking that good. But yeah, yeah, just a
- 39:21Speaker 2: stack impact crew here.
- 39:22Speaker 3: I love, really good, really good. Well, yeah, let's move on.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Let's move on to our favorite scene. Let's choose the
- 39:29Speaker 3: dingus is quite simple, really dingus dingus.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I could talk about my dingas all night long. What
- 39:38Speaker 2: what do you have? This was hard. I felt like
- 39:40Speaker 2: a well three hour movie for one.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and so my mine's more of a sequence than
- 39:48Speaker 3: a scene.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I love that. I love it.
- 39:50Speaker 3: So this is gonna end up being about a half
- 39:52Speaker 3: hour sequence. I am at But we start off with
- 39:57Speaker 3: with drugging Sam Rockwell which is great.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Then we get a little payback for Percy making him
- 40:05Speaker 3: get in the restraints and shoving him in the dark,
- 40:07Speaker 3: padded room.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Yep.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Then they break John Coffee out. They get to the
- 40:13Speaker 3: warden's house. The Warden's freaking out because he sees John
- 40:17Speaker 3: Coffee's out for sure, him not wanting to go upstairs
- 40:23Speaker 3: and see his wife like that acting, but ultimately lets
- 40:29Speaker 3: him go up there. Then we have the magical scene
- 40:32Speaker 3: of John breathing in her tumors terrifying yep, and her
- 40:37Speaker 3: immediately looking so much healthier and normal, and thanking him
- 40:42Speaker 3: and telling her about her dream of him.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Darkness stuff like we were in the darkness and we
- 40:47Speaker 2: found each other.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like a half hour of a three hour movie,
- 40:54Speaker 3: but it's wonderful. And then my next one would be
- 40:59Speaker 3: this stuff that happens directly after that, the last.
- 41:06Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 41:08Speaker 3: It's so tough because yeah, because then it's so amazing.
- 41:13Speaker 3: They go back to the Green Mile, they take Percy out.
- 41:15Speaker 3: I told you that tear killed me. I couldn't believe
- 41:20Speaker 3: his acting in that moment was incredible. And then John
- 41:23Speaker 3: Coffee immediately infects him with those tumor nats magical supernatural
- 41:30Speaker 3: gross things. Yes, and the look on his face when
- 41:34Speaker 3: that's happening, it's terrifying. Well, it breaks his brain, breaks
- 41:40Speaker 3: his brain. Then he's like a zombie walking over to
- 41:43Speaker 3: Sam Rockwell cell unloads his gun, you know, and we're like, oh,
- 41:48Speaker 3: that's messed up, Like why why do you do that?
- 41:51Speaker 3: Then John Coffee shows him what he did and Tom
- 41:57Speaker 3: Hanks is like doing it, and that, I mean, that's
- 42:01Speaker 3: an hour of the movie.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Plus we get the whole well, and I would add
- 42:06Speaker 2: onto that the whole like if we're looking for a
- 42:09Speaker 2: shorter scene, the scene where John Coffee and uh, what
- 42:16Speaker 2: is his name? Tom Hanks, Paul, Yeah, we're they're talking
- 42:21Speaker 2: in the cell and he's like, what do you want
- 42:23Speaker 2: me to do? And he's that's my next scene, So
- 42:27Speaker 2: that that is a different Yeah, that's a different different
- 42:30Speaker 2: That whole scene than into the execution is still so wonderful,
- 42:35Speaker 2: right Like, but that, like that short little snippet of
- 42:39Speaker 2: a scene, it's not that short, but you know, in
- 42:42Speaker 2: comparison of just them being like and he does the
- 42:45Speaker 2: I'm tired speech, which I know we'll talk about later, Like, dude,
- 42:49Speaker 2: it's so good because you get Tom Hanks just killing it,
- 42:53Speaker 2: you know, Duncan just killing it, like it's amazing. I
- 42:58Speaker 2: love that scene so much.
- 43:00Speaker 3: It's a great scene.
- 43:02Speaker 2: And then they're all just so like, yeah, I don't know,
- 43:05Speaker 2: like the all the guards don't want to do it,
- 43:07Speaker 2: but also they're you know, doing their job and all,
- 43:10Speaker 2: you know, all the things right, Like it's.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Just yeah when they walk into the room and seeing
- 43:16Speaker 3: everybody hating it, but they just want to tell him
- 43:20Speaker 3: like he's not the one who do it, but yeah,
- 43:23Speaker 3: I love him.
- 43:24Speaker 2: He's a mirror and it's a you know, a blessing
- 43:26Speaker 2: in a way because he's ready, you know, and all
- 43:28Speaker 2: these things right Like what a fun I mean, it's
- 43:32Speaker 2: emotional manipulation at its best of just like making us
- 43:36Speaker 2: feel all these things at once. But I love all that.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I also really loved the first rehearsal scene just because
- 43:47Speaker 2: it really, like world building wise, gives us a great
- 43:52Speaker 2: idea of how terrifying this is and how seriously they
- 43:56Speaker 2: do take it and how they want to respect you know,
- 43:59Speaker 2: these people despite them being in there for bad reasons
- 44:01Speaker 2: and going you know to like this, you know, this
- 44:04Speaker 2: terrible thing, Like they want to do it the right
- 44:07Speaker 2: way and that really comes through and I think that's
- 44:10Speaker 2: that's pretty great.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Well except Harry Deane Stanton doesn't really take it seriously.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Well no he doesn't, but he's cracked in.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Whatever he yells out.
- 44:20Speaker 2: What is his Is he just a regular prisoner? What
- 44:23Speaker 2: is his situation? Think?
- 44:25Speaker 3: So, yeah, I think I think he's just like a
- 44:28Speaker 3: normal prisoner.
- 44:30Speaker 2: At the end, I was like, there's no one else
- 44:31Speaker 2: left on in the Green Mile, like what's going on?
- 44:34Speaker 2: Where did he come for? You know?
- 44:36Speaker 3: Like, yeah, yeah, I think he just helps out.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Yeah. I like that a lot. Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Did you have other ones?
- 44:48Speaker 3: I mean no, the rest of the movie. I mean
- 44:51Speaker 3: the fact that that was like those two things I
- 44:54Speaker 3: wrote down are seriously, it's got to be close to it.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm with so honestly if we want to
- 44:59Speaker 2: pick both of the.
- 45:01Speaker 3: But I did write down that scene where Paul is
- 45:04Speaker 3: asking John what he wants him to do, and that.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Is just like a scene, classically scene scene.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Yeah, classic scene.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Love that scene so much.
- 45:13Speaker 3: It's a great scene. And man, his uh him to
- 45:17Speaker 3: when they're walking him to Old Sparky and they're still
- 45:21Speaker 3: in the Green Mile and he's talking about the dream
- 45:25Speaker 3: that he had. So yeah, yeah, just booz.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's wonderful.
- 45:35Speaker 3: But yeah, why don't we go with the scene where
- 45:36Speaker 3: Paul's asking John what he wants him to do if
- 45:38Speaker 3: he wants to let him go take his.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Chances on the list. Dude, I'll get you out of
- 45:43Speaker 2: here right now if if that's what you need to happen,
- 45:46Speaker 2: I'm ready. I'll do whatever you need.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll go to jail.
- 45:50Speaker 2: I don't care. Just and all the other guys are too. It's,
- 45:53Speaker 2: you know, like they're just leaping. We're in. Yeah, I
- 45:57Speaker 2: love that. Okay, the dingis has been chosen. Let's go ahead.
- 46:00Speaker 2: We talked about some of these quotes here. It's time
- 46:02Speaker 2: to show me the money show.
- 46:11Speaker 3: I started. Why don't you start with the show me
- 46:13Speaker 3: the money?
- 46:14Speaker 2: Okay, well, just because we just talked about it, But John,
- 46:18Speaker 2: tell me what you want me to do. On the
- 46:19Speaker 2: day of my judgment, when I stand before God and
- 46:21Speaker 2: he asked me, why did you why did I kill
- 46:24Speaker 2: one of his true miracles? What am I going to say? That?
- 46:27Speaker 2: It was my job? And then he responds back, But
- 46:30Speaker 2: just that part is.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Just oh, dude, his response is so amazing.
- 46:36Speaker 2: I read the whole thing.
- 46:36Speaker 3: It's pretty long, it's.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Pretty low, just the I'm tired, boss, tired of being
- 46:41Speaker 2: on the road lonely as a sparrow in the rain.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I'm tired of never having a buddy to be with
- 46:45Speaker 2: to tell me where we's going or where we're coming
- 46:48Speaker 2: from or why. But mostly I'm tired of people being
- 46:50Speaker 2: ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain
- 46:53Speaker 2: I feel, and here in the world every day, there's
- 46:56Speaker 2: too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in
- 46:58Speaker 2: my head all the time. Can you understand? And I
- 47:00Speaker 2: was like, God, yeah, oh, and the other quote that
- 47:05Speaker 2: goes so well with that that I did not remember,
- 47:10Speaker 2: and it just made me think of the world in
- 47:12Speaker 2: general and humans. So I feel like that's a site
- 47:15Speaker 2: of a good quote. But when he's like he used
- 47:18Speaker 2: their love against them to hurt one another, and I
- 47:21Speaker 2: was like, geez, dude, Like that is that's some philosophical stuff,
- 47:28Speaker 2: you know, like, because we do that every day. We
- 47:31Speaker 2: take what someone loves and then we use that to
- 47:34Speaker 2: manipulate them into fighting someone else about something they love,
- 47:37Speaker 2: you know what I mean. And I don't mean to
- 47:39Speaker 2: trivialize anything that's going on, but it's just like, wow,
- 47:42Speaker 2: that is it seems like, yeah, that's what it maybe
- 47:45Speaker 2: comes to.
- 47:46Speaker 3: And that's what he whispers to him when he's on
- 47:48Speaker 3: the chair right and he's use their own.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Love against him or whatever, like, yeah, amazing, I love that.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Let's see a funny one to get us out of that.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I think this boy's cheese has slid off his cracker.
- 48:07Speaker 3: That was fun.
- 48:08Speaker 2: That was fun.
- 48:09Speaker 3: That was when Sam Rockwell comes in and these looks
- 48:12Speaker 3: all doped.
- 48:14Speaker 2: No, I think it's oh, I think it's later. I
- 48:17Speaker 2: think they're talking about Percy when he's just standing there
- 48:22Speaker 2: after it, but maybe not.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Okay, No, yeah, I think you're right, just judging because.
- 48:29Speaker 2: You know chronological order, then that's for sure what it is. Yeah,
- 48:33Speaker 2: so I think that's right. But anyway, I just thought
- 48:37Speaker 2: that was really funny. I have more, but why don't
- 48:40Speaker 2: you go? H Yeah?
- 48:43Speaker 3: I mean I always think of John Coffee like the
- 48:46Speaker 3: drink only not spelled sas. That's what I think of
- 48:50Speaker 3: this movie. And then we have the warden's wife, what's
- 48:54Speaker 3: your name, John Coffee man, like the drink only not
- 48:57Speaker 3: spelled the same.
- 48:58Speaker 2: She remembers kind she's still kind of was there.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I love them, and he's like, no, man, not
- 49:03Speaker 3: spelled the same at all.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
- 49:07Speaker 3: I love how they say at all. Tom Hanks does
- 49:09Speaker 3: that a lot. The last line we show a death.
- 49:15Speaker 3: There are no exceptions, but oh god, sometimes the green
- 49:18Speaker 3: miles seems so long.
- 49:21Speaker 2: It's great, it's great. I love that. I liked.
- 49:26Speaker 3: When they're trying to get Percy into the restraints and
- 49:30Speaker 3: Tom Hanks says, a big man is ripping your ears off, Percy,
- 49:34Speaker 3: I do as he says. I love that.
- 49:38Speaker 2: That's pretty great.
- 49:43Speaker 3: After Michael or John Coffee fixes Paul's situation with his waterworks, Yes,
- 49:51Speaker 3: he says, I'm spelling me some corn bread. It's from
- 49:54Speaker 3: my missa. She wanted to thank you, thank me for
- 49:56Speaker 3: what well, you know, for helping me, helping you what
- 50:00Speaker 3: you know? And he points to his brain. He's like, oh,
- 50:03Speaker 3: was your missus? Please? He nods several times.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Sometimes actually, yeah, pretty great, pretty good.
- 50:10Speaker 3: That was really good. And one that I didn't remember.
- 50:14Speaker 3: I didn't remember Percy's last name was wetmore So, when
- 50:18Speaker 3: Eduard Delacroix says, we moore, that sounds like a good
- 50:23Speaker 3: name for you. After he peas his pants.
- 50:25Speaker 2: I was like, that's pretty great. That's pretty great.
- 50:28Speaker 3: That was awesome. And the only other one I wrote
- 50:32Speaker 3: down was after finding mister Jingles alive after he steps
- 50:37Speaker 3: on him. Percy's like, you switched him, You switched him somehow,
- 50:42Speaker 3: you bastards and brutus brutal. Howel was like, yeah, I
- 50:45Speaker 3: always keep a spare mouse in my wallet for occasions
- 50:48Speaker 3: such as this.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so great.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that's all I had though.
- 50:53Speaker 2: I love that the warden asks how how it's been
- 50:57Speaker 2: dealing with John Coffee and he's like, well, he doesn't
- 51:00Speaker 2: like the dark and he does cry on occasion. But
- 51:03Speaker 2: or no, maybe Gary Sonisee asked you about it? Anyway,
- 51:05Speaker 2: someone asks about the mouse. Okay, he doesn't like the
- 51:08Speaker 2: dark and he does cry on occasion, which I thought
- 51:10Speaker 2: was lovely. Uh. Also, I'm pretty sure it's Sam Rockwell,
- 51:17Speaker 2: but he's like, yeah, I want a French friend or
- 51:21Speaker 2: a fried chicken dinner and some gravy on the tainters,
- 51:23Speaker 2: and I want a near hat and I gotta have
- 51:26Speaker 2: the may West sit on my face because I'm won
- 51:28Speaker 2: a horny mother.
- 51:30Speaker 3: No, that's.
- 51:32Speaker 2: That's right, okay, sorry when they're yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 51:42Speaker 2: I did, I really liked that. That was really funny.
- 51:46Speaker 2: I also loved when they when they're first going after
- 51:49Speaker 2: the mouse and they clear out the whole room, right,
- 51:51Speaker 2: all that stuff, and then he's like, he says to
- 51:55Speaker 2: Berry Pepper, you let him get past you. No? I
- 51:58Speaker 2: did not. Yeah, it's just silly, lie. But I really
- 52:03Speaker 2: enjoyed that. It was a fun camaraderie moment. Let's see.
- 52:09Speaker 2: All I want to me was a little corporate you mother,
- 52:13Speaker 2: Yeah you liked that? Oh? I liked Uh it's Bonnie
- 52:23Speaker 2: Hunt is his wife? Is that right? Yeah? Bonnie Hun
- 52:25Speaker 2: When she's like, she's like, honey, if you don't tell
- 52:29Speaker 2: me what's wrong with you, I'm gonna have to smother you.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Or I'm afraid I'm gonna have to smother you or whatever.
- 52:34Speaker 2: When they're sitting up in bed that night, I thought
- 52:36Speaker 2: that was really great. Let's see what else did I
- 52:40Speaker 2: write down here?
- 52:47Speaker 3: I felt like I liked a lot more lines. I
- 52:49Speaker 3: just when I was going through them, I was like,
- 52:51Speaker 3: nothing really jumped off the page, but it was just
- 52:54Speaker 3: how delivery.
- 52:59Speaker 2: I did like early on the when they're watching I
- 53:03Speaker 2: can't remember what they're they're watching, like Mary Povitch or something,
- 53:06Speaker 2: but it's not him, you know, but the guys like,
- 53:09Speaker 2: we like it. It's interesting, the gal says, and he
- 53:11Speaker 2: goes interesting, it's a bunch of inbred trailer trash I'll
- 53:14Speaker 2: ever talk about. Yeah, her face was just like, yeah,
- 53:21Speaker 2: she had pearls. She would have clutched him at that
- 53:22Speaker 2: very moment for sure.
- 53:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was. Jerry Springer was.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right. I think you're right. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:31Speaker 2: and then yeah, I think that was kind of all
- 53:34Speaker 2: the ones I wrote down. I'm kind of with you,
- 53:36Speaker 2: like without the delivery. Yeah, we get a little hard
- 53:39Speaker 2: to like pick him out, but mm hmm there was
- 53:43Speaker 2: and just I'm tired, boss dog tired, you know, just
- 53:46Speaker 2: like oh tired. Love that. But this next section might
- 53:50Speaker 2: be long, so maybe we should go.
- 53:52Speaker 3: Let's get into it, Biggs, Moho moments. Way, I picked eleven.
- 53:58Speaker 3: Here we go it when the old guy starts crying
- 54:01Speaker 3: when watching when we're all together dancing cheek to chee cheek.
- 54:06Speaker 2: By the way, one of the first things I say
- 54:08Speaker 2: in College Fun.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Song, such a great song. The visual of John Coffee
- 54:13Speaker 3: holding the girls in his lap and screaming.
- 54:16Speaker 2: I couldn't help it, boss, I tried to take it back,
- 54:18Speaker 2: but it was too late. What does that mean? Yeah, yikes, yikes.
- 54:25Speaker 3: I can't think of how I'm gonna tell my wife
- 54:26Speaker 3: she's gonna die?
- 54:28Speaker 2: My god. Yeah yeah yep.
- 54:33Speaker 3: Delle screaming he's so upset that Percy stumped on his mouse.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Oh man, that yeah, yes, so evil.
- 54:42Speaker 3: When John takes the mouse for Dell before he gets
- 54:45Speaker 3: brought to Old Sparky.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's wonderful. Mm hmm.
- 54:51Speaker 3: The entire forty minute scene where John Coffee saves the
- 54:56Speaker 3: warden's wife. Oh my god, yes, several different who's throughout
- 55:00Speaker 3: that seeing Sam Rockwell was responsible for killing the girls?
- 55:07Speaker 2: Dude, Yes, I forgot. I sort of. I remembered. I
- 55:11Speaker 2: remembered that obviously, but I didn't remember we so we
- 55:14Speaker 2: got such a like good look at it, Like I
- 55:17Speaker 2: just thought he was kind of like it was him
- 55:18Speaker 2: or something, you know, like yeah, yeah, that's Girdle.
- 55:25Speaker 3: That scene that we picked for the Dingus. I wanted
- 55:27Speaker 3: to be done. I'm tired, says he doesn't want to
- 55:29Speaker 3: be saved. When when John gets to watch his flicker show, Yeah, his.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Face, and that we should have said that for the
- 55:39Speaker 2: dude because his face during that scene is wonderful. And
- 55:44Speaker 2: the way that shot with like the halo effect over
- 55:48Speaker 2: his head because of the projector, and oh yeah, that's wonderful, beautiful. Yeah,
- 55:54Speaker 2: for sure. I cried there.
- 55:57Speaker 3: When John talks about his mouse Fell dream and the
- 55:59Speaker 3: girls were there.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that was a lot.
- 56:03Speaker 3: And the whole execution scene, yes, yep. And I feel
- 56:08Speaker 3: like maybe there is something towards the end with the
- 56:10Speaker 3: old guy, but I'm I'm not sure.
- 56:13Speaker 2: I think just generally when he was like I buried
- 56:17Speaker 2: my wife, I buried my son, I'm gonna bury you,
- 56:20Speaker 2: and then you see him walking through the funeral and
- 56:23Speaker 2: then he has his whole line about but it does
- 56:25Speaker 2: seem long or whatever that I was just kind of
- 56:29Speaker 2: still crying. I feel like there's yes. And this one
- 56:36Speaker 2: was hard because they're like I wrote down a bunch,
- 56:39Speaker 2: but then I was like, oh, that's all just like
- 56:42Speaker 2: you said, that's all John's execution or whatever, you know,
- 56:45Speaker 2: Like so, but just to say a couple that really
- 56:48Speaker 2: stuck out to me, I think you nailed it, honestly,
- 56:50Speaker 2: but just to say a few. The exact line is
- 56:54Speaker 2: he killed them with their love, with their love for
- 56:56Speaker 2: each other. That's the way it is, that's the way
- 56:58Speaker 2: it is all over. Like, I think that line is wonderful.
- 57:04Speaker 2: This one got me when he's when Paul's talking to
- 57:07Speaker 2: his wife, to be honest, honey, I've done some things
- 57:09Speaker 2: in my life I'm not proud of. But this is
- 57:11Speaker 2: the first time I've felt in real danger of going
- 57:14Speaker 2: to hell. And I was like, geez, like for him
- 57:17Speaker 2: to you know, I don't know, it just felt like
- 57:19Speaker 2: a lot. Uh, let's seem I think we might have
- 57:29Speaker 2: got the other ones when he says the the first
- 57:34Speaker 2: time he says the I'm scared of the dark if
- 57:37Speaker 2: it's a strange place. Oh, and mostly because we know
- 57:42Speaker 2: he's so wonderful at that point because we've seen it before, right,
- 57:45Speaker 2: But but yeah, yeah, I think that's it. I think
- 57:51Speaker 2: he nailed it.
- 57:52Speaker 3: Cool. Yeah, I got clothes. I'd say there were thirteen.
- 57:56Speaker 2: It's hard. It's a hard one to count them. A lot,
- 58:00Speaker 2: a lot of booze, so many boohoos. But there's also
- 58:04Speaker 2: some pretty good trivia. So let's go into that movie trivia.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Many times the actors were not looking at a mouse
- 58:11Speaker 2: at all. They were looking at a laser pointer pointed
- 58:14Speaker 2: at the ground that was good. That's a nice way
- 58:17Speaker 2: to do that. There was fifteen mice that were used
- 58:20Speaker 2: in this movie, and each spent months being trained to
- 58:24Speaker 2: do different tricks. So that's kind of fun and silly,
- 58:27Speaker 2: I feel like, let's see. According to one of the
- 58:31Speaker 2: DVD featurettes, Stephen King called this film the single most
- 58:35Speaker 2: faithful adaptation of his work. So I thought that was cool.
- 58:39Speaker 2: It kind of makes me want to read the book,
- 58:40Speaker 2: although I guess if it's faithful, it's probably just the same.
- 58:43Speaker 2: I don't know. Wow. Interesting.
- 58:46Speaker 3: I think one thing that I saw that was different
- 58:49Speaker 3: was that they let the mouse die and so oh
- 58:56Speaker 3: in the book, it makes in the book interesting, Yeah,
- 59:01Speaker 3: John Coffee doesn't save the mouse, so then you don't
- 59:04Speaker 3: have any of that stuff at the end with how
- 59:07Speaker 3: if the mouse has lived this? Yeah, right to live
- 59:10Speaker 3: for Yeah?
- 59:11Speaker 2: Huh yeah interesting? Interesting? Okay, Oh, there's it's about an
- 59:19Speaker 2: hour and thirty five minutes in this says but Tom Hanks,
- 59:21Speaker 2: he wasn't pretending to wipe his jacket. The mouse had
- 59:24Speaker 2: actually defecated on him in that scene, and I thought
- 59:27Speaker 2: that was so funny. And I even noticed when he
- 59:29Speaker 2: wiped it, you know, off this time. For whatever reason,
- 59:32Speaker 2: I thought that was fun. Just go with it, it's fine.
- 59:36Speaker 2: Let's see Tom Hanks accepted the role of Paul Edgecombe.
- 59:41Speaker 2: This might have been one you had so sorry as
- 59:43Speaker 2: a favorite to Frank Drebot because he was forced to
- 59:47Speaker 2: turn down Andy Dufframe in The Shashank Redemption in order
- 59:50Speaker 2: to play Forrest Gump.
- 59:53Speaker 3: He would have been so good as Tim Robbins is great.
- 59:58Speaker 2: He was great.
- 59:59Speaker 3: But Tom Hanks killed it too.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it would have been amazing.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: So good in that movie.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Agree.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: They did a number of things where they like, they
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: made Coffee's bed shorter than the other beds.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: They did like some forced perspective stuff to make Michael
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Clark Duncan look even bigger, you know, than all these
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: other folks. So I thought that was cool.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Yeah. I was surprised because I remember, because I think
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: David Morris is a big man. I think he's pretty tall.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: It actually says in reality, Michael Clark Duncan was of
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: similar height to David Morse, but was a couple of
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: inches shorter even than James Cromwell.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Cromwell was super tall too, Yeah, big tall guy too.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: So uh they did camrangles to create illusions and then
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: they just made it so he just like towered over everyone.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: It was cool. I thought that was cool. They even
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: dug a trench at one point for Tom Hanks, I
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: think just so it made him look, you know, that
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: much bigger and crazier. So that's cool. Let's see Tom
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Hanks treated the entire crew to a meal every Friday
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: night on set. I just think that's nice, good free.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: Well yeah, man, he took points for Forrest Gump, so he.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Was rolling nothing but cash. Boy. Let's do this thing.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Let's see. When producers were having trouble for finding the
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: right actor to fill the role of John Coffee, Bruce
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Willis actually suggested Michael Clark Duncan from when they were
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: in arm Again together. So you mentioned that earlier, so
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: that was cool. This is sad. But just as Frank
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Drbaut was starting to write the screenplay, he found out
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: his cat had developed a tumor. With the cat dying
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: but not being in any pain, he decided not to
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: have it put down. Instead, he cared for it at
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: home while he was adapting The Green Mile, referring to
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: it as his you know, co writer or co pilot.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Uh and it spent a lot of time with him
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: and at his desk and kept him company. And yeah,
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: he just thought the death row experience of also having
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: the cat go through this was very it felt very
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: right to him, you know that it was all happening
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: at the same time, and he just as he was
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: finishing the script, basically the cat passed away. So that
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: just seems interesting and sad, but kind of beautiful in
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: its own way. Let's see, they gave Doug Hutchison very
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: squeaky shoes, and he thought it was great to have
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: an annoying character trait even more annoying for him. And
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: you can even hear it sometimes in the movie, I guess,
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: which is kind of fun.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: Michael Jeter, did you hear about Doug Hutchison and all
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: like his personal life?
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: No, tell me everything.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: He kind of he kind of got what's the word?
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: People did in Hollywood didn't want him around anymore. He
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: at fifty years old, married a sixteen year Oh no,
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: and they were married and it was pretty I think
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: it was. It would have been a little while after this,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: probably ten years after this, because they were married for
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: like ten years. They got divorced, just like I think
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: during COVID. Wow, but everybody was like, dude, you're yeah,
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: that's not cool. Fifty she's sixteen, that's groomy. He lost
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: his agent, he lost friends and family. You know, they
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: said that they were in love and yeah, but he
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: this is kind of like the only really big things done.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Wow, he hasn't done a ton.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: No, I didn't read that. That's that's interesting. It makes
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: sense because he's so good at this.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: Wow, he was so good. But that's maybe no sixteen
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: year old and those if they're in love anyway, it
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: doesn't matter what I think. Yeah, that's gross. I hate it. Yeah.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Michael Jeter was considered the soul of the cast, according
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: to producer David Valdez and others. And actually he remembers
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Tom Hanks crying on Michael's last day of shooting, and
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: I thought that was just sweet. He seems so great.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: That character was fun too. I liked his accent a
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: lot too. It was great.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: It was good. Yeah, that kid.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Yeah, he did a good job with it. I liked it.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: More than thirty works of Stephen King have been adapted
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: to movies, but this was the only one to have
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: broken one hundred million dollar mark. At the US box
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: office until until he had in twenty seventeen, of course,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: but pretty crazy if you can believe this. Michael Clark
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Duncan had to stop lifting weights to look more like
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: a man from nineteen thirty five.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: That didn't make sense to me because he was just six,
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: floding out enormous. Yeah yeah, so.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: Whatever he for emotional scenes, he would just remember, Michael
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: Clark Duncan saying, it would recall his father leaving him
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: as a child, and that would help him cry, which
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: is so sad. Yeah. Uh. Sam Rockwell reportedly felt really
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: bad delivering some of the lines in the flashback sequence,
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: specifically because the two little girls really liked him, like
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: when they weren't. I was like, oh, yeah, that's terrible,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: that's horrible. I don't know, I don't think about that
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: working with kids for stuff like.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: That, like having to say such horrible things.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Terrible, terrible, terrible.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it was. It was good that he he got
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: those fake teeth in there and he didn't look like himself,
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: because I feel like that's one of those role roles
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: where it's like I might not work out this. People
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: are going to see me as I can't be too
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: good you know, yeah, like let's let's let's make it
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: so I don't look like I bet.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: There was a lot of like I'm going to say this,
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: but I'm acting. Just remember we're just playing, right.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that'll be weird. We're buddies, that'll be weird. This
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: was funny. Michael Clarke Duncan was uncomfortable with having to
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: grab Tom Hanks's crotch for the scene where he hears
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: his urinary infection, and apparently Hank's like left the set
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: real quick and came back and the next time they
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: did it, he was shocked to discover that he had
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: put an empty water bottle in his trousers, and apparently
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: that helped the scene be less awkward, which I was like,
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: I can kind of see that. That's kind of cool,
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Like good little trick. You know. By the time Paul
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: introduced a Lane to mister Jingles, the mouse would have
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: been at least sixty four years old, and which is
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: over nine times the age of the oldest actual mouse.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: So I don't know how the timeline of all that
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: could work out because he's pretty old and he's only
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: one hundred and eight. If he's supposed to live nine
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: times as much. That seems unlikely, but maybe not. Who knows.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: The conversion rate might not work the same from mouse
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: to human. I think that's most obvious answer. The botched
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: execution scene was inspired by real life execution of wrongfully
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: accused again murderer Jesse Taferro May fourth of nineteen ninety six.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: Inch flames shot out of his head during his electric
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: chair execution, and it was deduced that a synthetic sponge
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: was used rather than a sea sponge. I guess, and
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: that made that I don't know, that sounds frigging awful
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: to me. Um, And then oh, I just thought this
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: was so. Doug Hutchison made a twenty dollars bet with
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: the extras who were behind the scenes and stuff during
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Dell's execution, that they couldn't recite his lines, and apparently
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: unknowingly to him, Tom Hanks wrote Hutchinson's lines on big
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: que cards behind him and would hold him up. But
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: he only caught onto it when the just kept laughing.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: But by the end of the day he owed at
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: least sixty bucks to different people. So I thought that
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: was That's a fun, little fun little gag. I like that. Yeah,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: there was a lot more trivia, but that was all
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: I wrote down. Did you find anything else cool?
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: I saw that Frank daarbut said, I've been pretty lucky
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: with my casting. The Green Mile was the singular experience
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: I've ever had of every single actor that was my
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: first choice for the movie, said yes and did them.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Wow, Well that shows I guess that's pretty cool.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: It did say that he did want Barry Pepper originally
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: to play the part of Percy Oh, but he switched
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: him over to the guard And apparently at one point
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Ving Raims was in mind for the role of John Coffee.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: I think he was in the running.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Interesting, that would have been interesting.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: He would have probably been pretty good.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: Yeah, bet, I think you're right.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that was all I had.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: Do we think there's gonna be a sequel? Judgment day?
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: I doubt it. Can there be a sequel?
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: You think the Greener Mile, the Green Ast Mile, the
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Green Miles?
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: Oh, it's about his son named Miles.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: Miles and he's got a weird skin condition he's name
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: or he's a good gardener. Maybe Okay, yes, I don't
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: know that. Yeah, there's there's there's no way. Well, let's
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: do a little game. How great we're going to do
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: a last Man Stanton when that we just did a
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: movie with Harry I love that.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: Love that isn't that We're not going to do him though, right,
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: because that seems like it would be impossible.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: I could say The Green Mile and Lucky and and
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: I think of old ones. Okay, Son, you.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Have a.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Remember that line? Do you remember that? No, you haven't
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: seen those many times I have. It's when the Hulk
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: flies through and lands in the warehouse and he wakes
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: back up as Bruce Banner and then he's like, Son,
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: you have a condition. Nice funny. He's a weirdo. I
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: like it.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: Okay, he's a weirdo. I have. I sent this out
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: on the XS and so yeah, I did it right
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: before we started. I've gotten fourteen reporties done. Tim Allen,
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: Tom Selleck, David Tennant, h Gary Oldman, Judy Dench and
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Alan Rickman, Robin Williams, which you've done, Robert de Niro,
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: which I don't think we've ever done. You have weird Okay,
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: Edward Norton, which I don't think we've done, Tim Curry,
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Steve Martin, which I don't think we've done. M clint
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: Eastwood and Stan Laurel.
