Speaker 3: to welcome to the show now ken On County Board
2:24
Speaker 3: of Education members, hoping you elect him come election day.
2:27
Speaker 3: It's Mike Harber Gass. Good afternoon, sir, welcome to the show.
2:30
Speaker 3: Good morning, does, good afternoon. I never know what show
2:33
Speaker 3: I'll on to go home. I'm just gonna start saying hello,
2:36
Speaker 3: you know, to people, because I get the two shows.
2:39
Speaker 3: I am here right, you can see it, right. I
2:42
Speaker 3: am physically here. I'm physically here right. Mentally and not
2:45
Speaker 3: so much, but good morning and well, good morning shift.
2:47
Speaker 3: I want to start off with I'm here to talk
2:49
Speaker 3: to you about your about your campaign, but I did
2:53
Speaker 3: want to ask you about this situation. We reported on it,
2:56
Speaker 3: as as did everyone Saturday, with the shots fired was
2:59
Speaker 3: tracking field event going out at Laateleyfield. Shots were fired
3:03
Speaker 3: away from the field. No one was in danger. But
3:07
Speaker 3: I thought, as a somebody who's been around sports your
3:11
Speaker 3: entire life and was get into your biography a little
3:13
Speaker 3: bit later, but also as a member of the board
3:14
Speaker 3: of Education, thought I'd give you an opportunity to speak
3:16
Speaker 3: on it.
3:17
Speaker 5: Well, terrible thing, you know, a scary thing. I know
3:21
Speaker 5: that people panic. Do you think you hear about it
3:25
Speaker 5: going on all the time everywhere, and when it hits
3:28
Speaker 5: a little bit closer to home, it's got a different
3:30
Speaker 5: different feel to it. I will say that I thought
3:32
Speaker 5: Joe Varney did a fantastic job of handling what happened
3:37
Speaker 5: the situation. You know that it happened quick here again,
3:41
Speaker 5: and I don't know if everybody knows that did not
3:43
Speaker 5: happy happen inside Lateley Field. It was outside on Piedmont
3:46
Speaker 5: like somebody drove by and fired off shots. I have
3:49
Speaker 5: no idea why that guy would do such a thing.
3:52
Speaker 3: He was apprehended shortly thereafter, yes.
3:54
Speaker 5: Thank goodness, and hopefully he's going to be held accountable
3:57
Speaker 5: for that, because, like I say, you know, it puts
3:59
Speaker 5: fear into people.
3:59
Speaker 1: And here.
4:00
Speaker 5: Again, it could happen anywhere, but it did happen here.
4:03
Speaker 5: And I also want to commend Charleston Police Department can
4:07
Speaker 5: all kind of Sheriff's office. They were there quickly, and
4:10
Speaker 5: they apprehended a suspect quickly, and it was handled, what
4:15
Speaker 5: we thought, in a productive way as far as maintaining
4:19
Speaker 5: the safety of our students.
4:20
Speaker 1: You know, you think.
4:22
Speaker 5: About all the great events that go on at Lavely
4:26
Speaker 5: Field and all the all the things we've done and
4:29
Speaker 5: not had one one ounce of problem, and this is
4:31
Speaker 5: this kind of black eye to the city and I
4:34
Speaker 5: and I get that, but I think moving forward, you know,
4:38
Speaker 5: let's say this is an isolated incident. Nobody was being targeted,
4:43
Speaker 5: and I hate that it happened, and hopefully, you know,
4:46
Speaker 5: we'll be able to move forward from it and it won't
4:48
Speaker 5: happen again. I mean, we've got some things coming up
4:50
Speaker 5: right now. We've got regional track meets getting ready to happen,
4:52
Speaker 5: to state track meets there, and we'll be prepping for
4:54
Speaker 5: the state football championships before you know it.
4:56
Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, and I think it's it's very important to
5:01
Speaker 3: point out again that this did not this happen in
5:03
Speaker 3: the area around, you know, Ladley Field, and because someone
5:08
Speaker 3: had asked me, well, can this person be charged with
5:10
Speaker 3: additional charges because it was on school property? But really
5:12
Speaker 3: it wasn't, so it was something happened outside the event.
5:16
Speaker 5: They weren't, but you know it was close to home. Yeah,
5:19
Speaker 5: and here again a terrible thing. But with the reviews
5:23
Speaker 5: that I've seen, and we've been in constant contact with superintendent.
5:26
Speaker 5: I talked to Joe Varney personally and here again, I
5:29
Speaker 5: think they did what they could do.
5:33
Speaker 3: Mike Garbagass is here. Remember the Canaw County Board of Education.
5:35
Speaker 3: Now you were appointed to that position, as I said,
5:38
Speaker 3: hoping her voters will are hoping you will elect you
5:41
Speaker 3: to that position. Any any surprises during your time on
5:44
Speaker 3: the board. I mean you've been around and you know
5:47
Speaker 3: students your entire career, with your work with s SAC
5:52
Speaker 3: and whatnot. But any surprises, anything that kind of you
5:55
Speaker 3: weren't expecting.
5:56
Speaker 5: You know, nothing nothing hit me between the ice I
5:59
Speaker 5: did and I didn't have that all haul moment on
6:03
Speaker 5: my goodness. Everything that I have experienced at this point
6:06
Speaker 5: are things that I have dealt with in the past
6:09
Speaker 5: and felt comfortable with. Now not everything's been easy going
6:13
Speaker 5: through the staffing formula and be able to maintain our budget,
6:17
Speaker 5: which I said early on going into it that I
6:20
Speaker 5: am going to be a good steward of our tax
6:21
Speaker 5: payer dollars given this opportunity, so I paid attention to
6:24
Speaker 5: how the budgeting was going on. But you know, when
6:28
Speaker 5: you come down to managing that budget and you're looking
6:31
Speaker 5: at the staffing formula and that's grossly outdated in my opinion,
6:36
Speaker 5: from the state level, and it's difficult. It's difficult to
6:41
Speaker 5: tell people we're sorry. You know, we don't we don't
6:43
Speaker 5: have a position for you anymore, you know, through the
6:46
Speaker 5: process of eliminating students, and you know, not not to
6:49
Speaker 5: get into the Hope scholarship thing. People can educate their
6:52
Speaker 5: children the best they what they think is best for
6:57
Speaker 5: their family. Nobody's going to tell me what's best for
6:59
Speaker 5: my family. But in the day, there are repercussions for that.
7:02
Speaker 5: And then these are people that we work with every day,
7:06
Speaker 5: people that I actually hired while I was an administrator
7:10
Speaker 5: in Kannall County Schools, And it's difficult to eliminate these positions.
7:15
Speaker 5: And until something changes, unfortunately, I don't think it's going
7:18
Speaker 5: to get better anytime soon. So that part's been the
7:22
Speaker 5: biggest challenge that And you know, I've been participating in
7:26
Speaker 5: continuing education classes with West Virginia County boards of Education
7:30
Speaker 5: and trying to really focus on illlegalities, focus on policy.
7:35
Speaker 5: So that's been a good thing for me. I've always
7:38
Speaker 5: told my kids to be a lifelong learner, and now
7:40
Speaker 5: I'm living that so and learning new things. That's been
7:44
Speaker 5: a good thing for me.
7:46
Speaker 3: It's a difficult time and here we're talking with Mike
7:48
Speaker 3: Arbigas from Kinlaw County Board of Education. Been a difficult
7:51
Speaker 3: time for anyone in West Virginia in the public school sector,
7:54
Speaker 3: whether you're a teacher, whether you're a board member or
7:58
Speaker 3: administrator or whatever. They came because as you may, you know,
8:00
Speaker 3: there's been people that have lost their jobs. Population, law,
8:04
Speaker 3: school consolidation, all these things. It's it's not easy being
8:06
Speaker 3: on the board of education. It's not a great time.
8:09
Speaker 5: It's not a great time to be a Board of
8:11
Speaker 5: Education member or a superintendent. And I feel sorry for
8:14
Speaker 5: doctor Potter and her staff as well. I mean, they're
8:16
Speaker 5: the ones that I have to make these decisions. The Board
8:17
Speaker 5: of Education ultimately has to prove the decisions she's making
8:21
Speaker 5: but we trust what she's doing and her and her
8:25
Speaker 5: staff there that she's got, She's got good people around her,
8:29
Speaker 5: and you know, sometimes you have to make these difficult decisions,
8:33
Speaker 5: and like I say, hopefully moving forward, we're going to
8:37
Speaker 5: be able to maintain iron integrity here in Kanah Can Schools.
8:41
Speaker 3: I do know that there are eleven.
8:43
Speaker 5: Counties in West Virginia currently under state takeover for multitude
8:47
Speaker 5: or reasons, some of them financially, some of them not.
8:50
Speaker 5: But they don't they don't want to do that. They
8:53
Speaker 5: don't want to come in and take over, and I certainly,
8:55
Speaker 5: as a board member, do not want the State Department
8:57
Speaker 5: to have ever come in and take over Kanna Cane School.
9:00
Speaker 5: So I don't foresee that happening. But at the same time,
9:03
Speaker 5: that comes down to responsibility and being able to communicate
9:08
Speaker 5: effectively and making sure that we're making the right decisions
9:11
Speaker 5: for our students.
9:12
Speaker 3: For those who don't know, you, give us your bio,
9:14
Speaker 3: give us how just tell us who Mike ar Begans.
9:18
Speaker 5: I'm born and raised here in Kannall County down St.
9:20
Speaker 1: Albans.
9:21
Speaker 5: I got a job as a teacher aide when I
9:23
Speaker 5: was nineteen years old and still in school. I had
9:25
Speaker 5: to get insurance to get work, so I got a
9:29
Speaker 5: job as a teacher aid and started. I went through school,
9:33
Speaker 5: went to school at night at Western State University, and
9:36
Speaker 5: always went full time during the summers, and finally graduated.
9:40
Speaker 5: It took me a couple extra years to get through
9:41
Speaker 5: because I was a part time student of full time employee,
9:44
Speaker 5: but eventually started teaching and coaching at Dunbar Junior High
9:48
Speaker 5: School and in nineteen ninety star coaching basketball at South
9:51
Speaker 5: Charleston High School and eventually transitioned into that building where
9:54
Speaker 5: I worked as a teacher and a coach and an
9:57
Speaker 5: athletic director, vice principal, its curriculum vice principal for a
10:02
Speaker 5: couple of years, and then ultimately I became principal to
10:04
Speaker 5: school in two thousand and seven when coach Walton retired,
10:08
Speaker 5: and stayed there until twenty eighteen.
10:12
Speaker 3: If you are chosen Mike by the voters on election day,
10:17
Speaker 3: what do you hope to accomplish during your next term?
10:19
Speaker 5: Well, here again, it's I want to continue to build
10:24
Speaker 5: on the positive things that are going on within our schools.
10:28
Speaker 5: And I will tell you, Dave, you know, since I
10:30
Speaker 5: got on here, I have been doing walkthroughs in our buildings.
10:34
Speaker 5: The positive has been being able to reconnect with people
10:37
Speaker 5: that I worked with for years, and then also getting
10:40
Speaker 5: out meeting new people. That's always a thrill for me
10:42
Speaker 5: to be able to do that. But I have been
10:44
Speaker 5: in our schools. I'm seeing here again things that I
10:48
Speaker 5: saw as a principal, you know, talented people that have
10:51
Speaker 5: chosen to teach school. And I see a lot of
10:54
Speaker 5: good things going on within our schools. And I think
10:58
Speaker 5: the biggest challenge that that we face as educators is
11:01
Speaker 5: and I've said this before, that I want to be
11:04
Speaker 5: able to offer something to every kid that walks in
11:06
Speaker 5: our schools.
11:07
Speaker 3: And I don't care what.
11:09
Speaker 5: Their goals are in life. I want to be able
11:12
Speaker 5: to help guide them to that. But that's a tall task.
11:15
Speaker 5: I mean, if you're talking about kids that are wanting
11:17
Speaker 5: to be in a medical profession or legal profession, all
11:20
Speaker 5: the way down to people that want to be in
11:23
Speaker 5: the vocational field. And these kids, by the time they
11:26
Speaker 5: get to high school, they realize what they're wanting to do,
11:30
Speaker 5: you know, through their life experiences, and I think we
11:33
Speaker 5: need to make sure our curriculum stays broad enough to
11:37
Speaker 5: be able to accommodate those kids needs.
11:40
Speaker 3: You have a website or social media for your campaign to.
11:42
Speaker 5: Do's a It's a Facebook page Michael arb Gas for
11:45
Speaker 5: Kanall County Schools Board of Education, and we've been posting.
11:49
Speaker 5: I mean, I've been on the run. I've been to
11:53
Speaker 5: multiple city council meetings, and I've attended every political form
11:56
Speaker 5: and event that I've been invited to, and uh, you
12:00
Speaker 5: know here again, it's the experience that I have in
12:04
Speaker 5: the trenches, and I feel like, you know, I'm offering
12:08
Speaker 5: my services and people want me to continue to serve.
12:10
Speaker 5: I've been on there now for six months, so you
12:12
Speaker 5: can go back and take a look at the questions
12:14
Speaker 5: I ask and how I voted, and if given the opportunity,
12:19
Speaker 5: I'm going to get after. I mean, I have strong
12:22
Speaker 5: work ethics, I always have, and more importantly, I have
12:25
Speaker 5: a passion for what I do, and I have a
12:27
Speaker 5: passion for our school system.
12:29
Speaker 3: Final thirty, Why should someone vote Mike Carbagans to keep
12:32
Speaker 3: you on the on cannibord of Education?
12:34
Speaker 5: Here again to the things we just spoke about, Dave.
12:36
Speaker 5: The experience that I've had, I've had over forty three
12:39
Speaker 5: years experience in knaal Kane Schools again starting clear back
12:42
Speaker 5: and worked in service personnel and I've taught and you know,
12:45
Speaker 5: been in the administration in I went back and substituted.
12:49
Speaker 5: After after my retirement, I got another job. But shout
12:54
Speaker 5: out to my bosses for not firing me, Brian and
12:56
Speaker 5: Tammy for all the days I've been missing over this.
12:59
Speaker 3: But here again the work ethics.
13:02
Speaker 5: That I have and what I'm going to bring to
13:04
Speaker 5: the table, and the passion that i have for our
13:06
Speaker 5: school system and more importantly for our children in Kanall County.
13:11

Speaker 3: staten Isla. They're back at Gomart Ballpark on Tuesday the twelfth.

16:57
Speaker 3: if you don't have your tickets for Marshall tomorrow night
17:01
Speaker 3: when you're out a lot because the game is officially
17:03
Speaker 3: sold out. Charleston, Mary Amy Schuler A good when coming
17:05
Speaker 3: up a little bit later on. It's been a huge
17:07
Speaker 3: event in Ripley the last few years, the annual Tunnel
17:11
Speaker 3: to Towers event. It's happy to this Saturday. Sophia Wigel's
17:14
Speaker 3: here to talk about. It's welcome to the show. And
17:16
Speaker 3: mom's here too, So thank you for having us, all right,
17:20
Speaker 3: And so for those who may not know the whole story,
17:24
Speaker 3: tell us the story of Tunnel to Towers, I mean
17:28
Speaker 3: on a national level than how you got involved.
17:30
Speaker 10: With yeah, of course, So the Tunnel to Towers Foundation,
17:33
Speaker 10: it was started after nine to eleven a firefighter named
17:36
Speaker 10: Steven Siller. He was just getting off of his shift
17:39
Speaker 10: and he was going to go play a round of
17:41
Speaker 10: golf with his brothers and he heard what was happening
17:44
Speaker 10: at the towers so he called his wife and told
17:47
Speaker 10: her to tell his brothers that he was going to
17:49
Speaker 10: catch up with them later. And he went back to
17:51
Speaker 10: his station and he put on all of his gear
17:54
Speaker 10: and he ran through the Brooklyn Battery tunnel and ultimately
17:58
Speaker 10: died at the Towers, which is where we get the
17:59
Speaker 10: name tunnel to Towers. And so he ultimately gave up
18:03
Speaker 10: his life along with many others during nine to eleven.
18:06
Speaker 10: And so his family started this to help first responders
18:09
Speaker 10: and military members and their families. So if they are
18:12
Speaker 10: catastrophically injured, they will build them smart homes adapted to
18:16
Speaker 10: their needs. If they are killed in the line of duty,
18:18
Speaker 10: they will provide them mortgage free homes. And they are
18:22
Speaker 10: starting to work with veteran homelessness. You know, we'd like
18:24
Speaker 10: to eradicate it. Obviously. If someone is willing to go
18:28
Speaker 10: risk their life for our country, the least that we
18:31
Speaker 10: should be able to do is take care of them
18:33
Speaker 10: and make sure that they are not living on the
18:34
Speaker 10: street in the country that they fought for. And so
18:37
Speaker 10: they are providing them PTSD support and trade skills so
18:41
Speaker 10: they are not completely reliant upon the foundation. And they
18:44
Speaker 10: also announced a scholarship program for their in the line
18:48
Speaker 10: of duty children that up to the age of thirty
18:51
Speaker 10: three years old, they can get their tuition paid for.
18:54
Speaker 10: I'm in a free ride to college. So they're really
18:56
Speaker 10: the foundations. Their entire theme is while we have time,
19:00
Speaker 10: let us do good. And again, like I said, it's
19:03
Speaker 10: the whole point is being able to help our first
19:05
Speaker 10: responders and military members and their families live independent lives
19:09
Speaker 10: and to be able to have as much freedom as
19:11
Speaker 10: they can.
19:12
Speaker 2: And so a little bit.
19:13
Speaker 10: About how I got started in this is my brother Levi.
19:16
Speaker 10: He's in the military. So I was thirteen and he
19:19
Speaker 10: was at basic training, and of course, as thirteen, you
19:22
Speaker 10: think of all the worst things that could happen. And
19:25
Speaker 10: I saw That's when I kind of started to pay
19:27
Speaker 10: attention to these commercials that I saw for their Catastrophically
19:29
Speaker 10: Injured Home program, and I saw about a weight list
19:33
Speaker 10: that I think it was about three pages long of
19:35
Speaker 10: just all of these names of people that needed a
19:38
Speaker 10: smart home, and I just thought that could be my brother,
19:42
Speaker 10: and that those are that is somebody's child that is
19:45
Speaker 10: on that weight list who has had a life altering
19:48
Speaker 10: injury that they cannot live on their own. And so
19:52
Speaker 10: I looked at mom and I said, you know, I'd
19:54
Speaker 10: like to do something for that. I want to help them,
19:56
Speaker 10: And we reached out to the foundation and we were
19:59
Speaker 10: able to get in contact and start. They said, you know, well,
20:02
Speaker 10: we have five k's that we raise or that we
20:05
Speaker 10: do to help raise money, and this year we've raised
20:09
Speaker 10: over I believe it's one hundred and thirty thousand dollars
20:11
Speaker 10: so far. So you know, obviously eleven dollars a month
20:15
Speaker 10: is a very big help to the foundation, but to
20:17
Speaker 10: be able to raise this much money in the past
20:19
Speaker 10: five years, it's it's a blessing.
20:21
Speaker 2: And that's you know why we have this event.
20:22
Speaker 3: And again it's going to be in Ripley. Give us
20:24
Speaker 3: all the details by the time, and there's some things
20:27
Speaker 3: people need to know because of early voting going on
20:29
Speaker 3: in Jackson County, so so talk about that.
20:31
Speaker 4: Yep.
20:31
Speaker 10: So definitely pay attention to this because we normally have
20:34
Speaker 10: it at the Jackson County Courthouse, but this year we
20:36
Speaker 10: will not be there.
20:37
Speaker 2: If you show up, you will be by yourself.
20:39
Speaker 10: I guess you could run a five k there if
20:41
Speaker 10: you want to, But we are going to be at
20:42
Speaker 10: the Ripley High School. It's going to be all on
20:45
Speaker 10: the field. We're going to have the start and finish
20:47
Speaker 10: line there. It's going to be on May ninth at
20:50
Speaker 10: ten am. So do not show up at the Jackson
20:52
Speaker 10: County Courthouse and we are going to have signs there
20:54
Speaker 10: to say if you do end up showing up on accident,
20:57
Speaker 10: to go back to the Ripley High School. But you know,
21:00
Speaker 10: we're excited for it, and hey, it's the fifth year.
21:03
Speaker 10: We get to switch things up a little bit. And
21:04
Speaker 10: it's also the twenty fifth year of nine to eleven,
21:06
Speaker 10: so just very big years for us.
21:08
Speaker 3: And a lot of activities go on on site there
21:12
Speaker 3: at the high school, not other than just the I
21:15
Speaker 3: mean you got all kinds of other things around it.
21:16
Speaker 3: Talk about all the things that are going on around it.
21:18
Speaker 10: No, So I mean with the five K, well, this
21:22
Speaker 10: is something that I do want to touch on real quick. Yeah,
21:24
Speaker 10: but especially for our participants. I really we would like
21:28
Speaker 10: to push for if there are any first responders and
21:30
Speaker 10: military members to come and run in your gear and
21:33
Speaker 10: participate in your gear. This is you know, obviously this
21:37
Speaker 10: is about nine to eleven and remembering nine to eleven
21:40
Speaker 10: and how during that day all of those first responders
21:42
Speaker 10: and military members ran towards the towers or towards the towers, Yes,
21:46
Speaker 10: and they ran towards the danger and they were in
21:48
Speaker 10: their gear and just like Steven Siller, he ran about
21:51
Speaker 10: the distance of a five K completely in bunker gear.
21:54
Speaker 10: And so you know, it's very steeped in remembrance. But
21:57
Speaker 10: you know, obviously, I mean, Ripley, there's so much to do, Ripley,
22:01
Speaker 10: and we really encourage everybody come out and make a
22:03
Speaker 10: day of it. There's also going to be what is
22:05
Speaker 10: that it's the they're having a cookout?
22:07
Speaker 2: Where is that going to be?
22:09
Speaker 10: Yeah, the the VFW is going to be having a
22:12
Speaker 10: cookout that just for like after is like a little reception.
22:15
Speaker 10: It's going to be at the VFW across from the
22:17
Speaker 10: fire department, and that you can go to the five
22:20
Speaker 10: K and then afterwards go and get maybe some food
22:22
Speaker 10: and enjoy some just community involvement, because that's what this
22:26
Speaker 10: is about, is remembering nine to eleven and bringing our
22:28
Speaker 10: communities together.
22:29
Speaker 3: And again, can at this point, what do you need
22:33
Speaker 3: at this point? I mean, because I know you have
22:35
Speaker 3: sponsors and things of that nature. We're just a few
22:36
Speaker 3: days away. What what do you in need of to
22:38
Speaker 3: pull this thing off for this week.
22:40
Speaker 2: You know, we just need people's participation at this point.
22:43
Speaker 10: You know, all of our sponsors are taken care of
22:45
Speaker 10: because obviously we have to get the signage and everything
22:48
Speaker 10: that that's cut off. I mean, if you want to give,
22:50
Speaker 10: you can give, but you won't be on any.
22:52
Speaker 2: Of the signage.
22:53
Speaker 10: But really, you know, we just really encourage fundraisings as individuals.
22:58
Speaker 10: You can go to the website it's run walk Ripley
23:02
Speaker 10: at Tea to Tea dot org and you can go
23:05
Speaker 10: there and you can just give five dollars. It really
23:07
Speaker 10: does not take a lot of money. You know, every
23:10
Speaker 10: little thing adds up. So we really would just love
23:12
Speaker 10: to have your participation, your involvement, and ultimately, you know,
23:16
Speaker 10: if even if you can't make it the day of,
23:18
Speaker 10: if you want to go on and give, you know,
23:20
Speaker 10: five or twenty dollars just to help us. We've already
23:22
Speaker 10: raised over thirty two thousand dollars this year, but just
23:25
Speaker 10: to help us raise even more because like I said,
23:28
Speaker 10: every little thing adds up and no amount is too small.
23:31
Speaker 10: But again, if you are a military member or first responder,
23:34
Speaker 10: please come out in your gear and participate I think
23:37
Speaker 10: sometimes they think maybe that, oh, you know, I don't
23:40
Speaker 10: I don't want to be showing off, or they might think,
23:43
Speaker 10: but it's it's very important for us as individuals. It's
23:47
Speaker 10: very symbolic to see them running and inspiring to see
23:50
Speaker 10: all that they do and all that they do for
23:51
Speaker 10: our communities. And bring your kids out. You know, this
23:54
Speaker 10: is a family event. If you can't run, I know
23:57
Speaker 10: my eighty year old grandparents where they're sitting in launch
24:00
Speaker 10: chairs just.
24:00
Speaker 2: In cheering them on, you know, I know, yeah, enjoying
24:02
Speaker 2: the event.
24:03
Speaker 10: You can wave flags, you can come cheer, just you know,
24:06
Speaker 10: really come out the day of and enjoy a day
24:08
Speaker 10: of remembering nine to eleven in community.
24:10
Speaker 3: Now, wait a minute, I got to ask you about
24:13
Speaker 3: about one thing. Is anybody other than mayor raider in
24:17
Speaker 3: Ripley allowed to wave a flag because I thought that
24:19
Speaker 3: that was kind of her thing.
24:21
Speaker 2: Only Hey, the mayor provides us the flags, so.
24:26
Speaker 3: Of course she did.
24:28
Speaker 13: Yeah we haven't had.
24:31
Speaker 3: Yeah.
24:31
Speaker 13: Yeah, bring out big flags. You can go get them
24:34
Speaker 13: at Walmart, the ones that you put out on your
24:37
Speaker 13: front porch.
24:38
Speaker 2: Run with those. Also, this is a thought if.
24:41
Speaker 13: There are any spider Man's or heroes that we want
24:45
Speaker 13: to come in here.
24:46
Speaker 8: We would absolutely love that.
24:48
Speaker 13: We've had a hard time finding it, but that's something
24:50
Speaker 13: to throw out there.
24:51
Speaker 3: They can call call us out to superheroes everywhere. Yes,
24:55
Speaker 3: all right, I was just kidding about Mayor Raiders. She's
24:57
Speaker 3: one of my favorite people.
24:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's she. Here's the reason why we have those
25:01
Speaker 2: little flags. So you know, that's all.
25:02
Speaker 3: I have no doubt. We had a text somebody said,
25:05
Speaker 3: any chance that you would move this to Charleston, maybe
25:07
Speaker 3: add the climb, maybe the stairs at Ladley Tower.
25:10
Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, hey, the climb is something that is amazing,
25:14
Speaker 10: and I will say, you know, if people want to
25:15
Speaker 10: get on board and come help you. It's a lot
25:18
Speaker 10: too organized for a five k, and also the money
25:20
Speaker 10: that it involves. But I mean, if we were ever
25:23
Speaker 10: able to get you know, the support and involvement, I mean,
25:25
Speaker 10: we'd love to bring a climb or even they have
25:27
Speaker 10: golf tournaments that they do as well, so they do have.
25:30
Speaker 2: A climb, I believe in Elkview.
25:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, yeah, this is a I mean there
25:36
Speaker 3: are other events like this in you know, all over
25:38
Speaker 3: the country. Yes, you said, yeah, I mean all right,
25:40
Speaker 3: so give us all the details again.
25:41
Speaker 14: Yep.
25:42
Speaker 10: So it's going to be May ninth, So this Saturday
25:45
Speaker 10: at ten am at Ripley High School.
25:47
Speaker 3: And sure you realize it's at Ripley High School. Yes,
25:50
Speaker 3: no other place, not at the courthouse because of early voting.
25:53
Speaker 2: Yes, yep, last minute date or location change.
25:56
Speaker 10: If you have any questions, I mean follow us at
25:58
Speaker 10: Ripley at tunnel to turs Ripley or tunnel to Towers
26:02
Speaker 10: Ripley westfridgain Gina, and that we post updates. We'll be
26:05
Speaker 10: posting things also about the location, just to remind everybody.
26:10
Speaker 10: And also our email is Ripley at t twot dot org.
26:14
Speaker 10: You can email us if you have any questions or
26:16
Speaker 10: like I said, message us on Facebook and we'll be
26:17
Speaker 10: happy to get back to you.
26:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going to have you on midday I think
26:20
Speaker 3: later today, Amanda and I will be talking to you
26:21
Speaker 3: about that. So get get that state wide flavor, because
26:24
Speaker 3: people really do come from all over I mean this
26:27
Speaker 3: is in Ripley in Jackson County, but you get people
26:30
Speaker 3: from all over the company.
26:31
Speaker 10: We have people from Tennessee, Ohio, I mean all over
26:35
Speaker 10: the place and within our state.
26:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's not just about Ripley.
26:38
Speaker 10: It is a statewide and nationwide event that you know what,
26:42
Speaker 10: it supports Our military and first responders will go anywhere
26:45
Speaker 10: for us, so you know, the least we could do
26:47
Speaker 10: is travel a little bit to support them.
26:48
Speaker 3: Now, Plus, Ripley's just a cool town, is it really is?
26:51
Speaker 13: Yeah?
26:51
Speaker 3: I mean and it's and it's of course the home
26:54
Speaker 3: of Joe Parsons and Jared Parsons too, So I'd be
26:57
Speaker 3: remiss if I didn't mention that. All right. One other text,
27:00
Speaker 3: somebody said anyone ever considered a bus toward a Ground
27:03
Speaker 3: Zero to the memorial before the anniversary in the Texas?
27:06
Speaker 3: Said I would love to go there, but New York
27:08
Speaker 3: is insane right now? Is that something that you'd look
27:10
Speaker 3: at maybe for the future. I mean, you dream big girl,
27:12
Speaker 3: I mean you know.
27:14
Speaker 2: Listen.
27:14
Speaker 10: I will say we did do a bus tour to
27:18
Speaker 10: New York and I was able to go to Ground zero.
27:20
Speaker 2: But one thing I will say this is just to
27:22
Speaker 2: throw this out there.
27:23
Speaker 10: Obviously, this is the twenty fifth year anniversary, and if
27:27
Speaker 10: anyone ever has the opportunity to go to the tunnel
27:30
Speaker 10: to Towers run in New York, I highly recommend that
27:33
Speaker 10: is something that should be a bucket list thing for
27:36
Speaker 10: everyone because to be in New York, you actually run
27:38
Speaker 10: the exact footsteps that Steven did. So you go through
27:40
Speaker 10: the Brooklyn Battery tunnel and you go all the way
27:43
Speaker 10: to ground zero and just to see I mean everyone,
27:47
Speaker 10: they are all holding there's firemen and military members holding
27:52
Speaker 10: banners of every single person first responder, military member that
27:56
Speaker 10: passed away on nine to eleven. And just to be
27:58
Speaker 10: in New York and in that atmosphere, I mean, if
28:00
Speaker 10: anyone ever has the opportunity, I believe it's the last
28:02
Speaker 10: weekend in September, but definitely put that on your bucket
28:07
Speaker 10: list because obviously Ripley is very big and it's an
28:11
Speaker 10: amazing opportunity. But to be able to go to a
28:13
Speaker 10: tunnel to towers run in New York, Yeah, and their big,
28:15
Speaker 10: I mean their main thing. It's thirty five thousand people
28:18
Speaker 10: a different Oh yeah no, but that is something if
28:21
Speaker 10: you ever get the opportunity to do.
28:22
Speaker 2: We were able to go, I believe.
28:24
Speaker 10: In twenty twenty one or twenty twenty two, and my goodness,
28:27
Speaker 10: I mean just chills. It's very emotional, it's very I
28:31
Speaker 10: just I can't even explain it.
28:33
Speaker 3: Okay, by the way I was. Things can change with
28:36
Speaker 3: the weather, you know. However, right now there's no chance
28:40
Speaker 3: of rain on Saturday.
28:41
Speaker 2: Okay, perfect, keep it that way.
28:42
Speaker 3: Thank you, Brian Hughes. Yes, ye, yes, thank you, Brian
28:45
Speaker 3: hugh Also understand our own Matt Murphy's going to be
28:48
Speaker 3: there too.
28:48
Speaker 2: Right, Oh yeah, yep, He's going to be our DJ
28:50
Speaker 2: and we're very thinking back guitar.
28:51
Speaker 3: Murphy will be there. So all right, Syvia and Mom,
28:55
Speaker 3: I appreciate you both being here.
28:56
Speaker 2: Please yes, say thank you so much.

Speaker 3: I got a couple of texts and then we will
33:26
Speaker 3: get to I promise she's sitting by standing by. I'll
33:29
Speaker 3: get to. I will get to. Charles may Amy Shueler,
33:33
Speaker 3: Goodwin coming up, Texas speaking the first responders. Have you
33:36
Speaker 3: seen the post from the brother of the guy from
33:38
Speaker 3: the off UW tragedy. It is some sad radius.
33:40
Speaker 6: I have a.
33:42
Speaker 3: Text mentioning the Hope scholarship. You see how some schools
33:47
Speaker 3: across the country organizing these anti ice protests, walkouts, and
33:50
Speaker 3: activist teachers are using the brainwash students to be the
33:53
Speaker 3: little foot soldiers. You can understand why a lot of
33:55
Speaker 3: people here in West Virginia are wanting that charter school
33:58
Speaker 3: and homeschooling choice, because even though that type of activism
34:01
Speaker 3: may not be here now, it normally finds its way here.
34:04
Speaker 3: Thank you Texter for that text. Another Texas thank you
34:09
Speaker 3: Westerrginia Radio and V one hundred for not canceling the
34:11
Speaker 3: yard sale at Laidleyfield Parking on this Saturday. Stephen Jenny's
34:14
Speaker 3: yard sale will be this Saturday. Stephen Jenny will be
34:16
Speaker 3: on the show on Friday to talk about it. She's here,
34:19
Speaker 3: she's been here. How just had stuff I had to get.
34:21
Speaker 2: To Yes, trus I love it.
34:23
Speaker 3: Amy Schuler going, hey doing.
34:24
Speaker 6: I wonder Steph Jenny wonder if they have in their
34:26
Speaker 6: yard sale.
34:26
Speaker 3: That sounds great, It's huge. I mean, it really really
34:29
Speaker 3: is great. I do want to get serious about several things.
34:32
Speaker 3: One of those is the event that we had the track.
34:35
Speaker 3: You didn't have it, but there was a track event
34:37
Speaker 3: Saturday at Laidley Field. Shots were fired, not inside the stadium.
34:42
Speaker 3: It was by somebody you know, on the outside. I
34:45
Speaker 3: think it was eighteen years old, I think, and taken
34:47
Speaker 3: into custody rapidly.
34:49
Speaker 6: Your thoughts, Yeah, well, I'll give credit where credit is due.
34:55
Speaker 6: Is the immediate response of our first responders, certainly our
34:59
Speaker 6: police who showed up. If you know Deputy Chief he's
35:03
Speaker 6: now Deputy Chief Detective Tony Hazlett. There's a reason why
35:07
Speaker 6: he is at the top of this administration is his
35:11
Speaker 6: solve rate is outstanding. He can find someone and find
35:16
Speaker 6: out the answers. The Charleston Police Department and our detectives
35:19
Speaker 6: are just incredible at doing that, and so so thank
35:23
Speaker 6: you to them. And I'll just go ahead and say,
35:25
Speaker 6: you know, while my boys are, you know, in college
35:27
Speaker 6: now and having been at that track and having been
35:30
Speaker 6: at big meets and big concerts and big events, this
35:33
Speaker 6: is what I will say. Thank you to the parents
35:35
Speaker 6: who remained calm, who you know evacuated, who you know
35:39
Speaker 6: you information, And I say that you and I talk
35:43
Speaker 6: about this all the time. Guess what is important yesterday,
35:47
Speaker 6: today and will be especially tomorrow. I have a very
35:51
Speaker 6: good girlfriend who could not be there. She was with
35:55
Speaker 6: another kid, but she had one kid that was running
35:58
Speaker 6: and texted and said, thank you for providing when you
36:02
Speaker 6: had correct and accurate information, because when you start posting
36:07
Speaker 6: things this is what I think would happen. Check on
36:10
Speaker 6: your kids. It is a mother father nightmare. Your heart
36:16
Speaker 6: sinks when you're providing information that is not clear. I
36:21
Speaker 6: know that we live in a give it to me
36:23
Speaker 6: right now. I want the information. It is very dangerous
36:26
Speaker 6: when you do that. And so thank you to the parents,
36:29
Speaker 6: to the administrators and folks who are providing information when
36:33
Speaker 6: you could get it, because what happens in an emergency
36:35
Speaker 6: situation and unfortunately and I'm gonna knock on some wood here, Dave.
36:39
Speaker 6: I've been in a lot. You have to remain calm,
36:43
Speaker 6: you have to work with people there. The first thing
36:45
Speaker 6: is to make sure that everybody is safe and you
36:48
Speaker 6: are working boots on the ground. That happened, As always,
36:53
Speaker 6: we will. You know, it wasn't a City of Charleston event,
36:55
Speaker 6: but we are always asked to respond, and we do.
36:58
Speaker 6: We're going to go in to say what happened, how
37:01
Speaker 6: did you do? How may we help you in any
37:04
Speaker 6: way manage these events going forward? But I'll just go
37:08
Speaker 6: back and say, you know, I'm a school of journalism grad.
37:13
Speaker 6: Information is important, Accurate information is critical, and especially when
37:18
Speaker 6: you're dealing with a very scary situation and when you're
37:22
Speaker 6: dealing with children, and you know, I'm not sure how
37:24
Speaker 6: we get through this world, in this new, ever changing
37:28
Speaker 6: I've got to have it first. I want it first.
37:31
Speaker 6: I want to be the first person to post. I
37:33
Speaker 6: want to make money off of this. I'm not sure
37:35
Speaker 6: how that is going to jive with what we do,
37:37
Speaker 6: what I knew as a profession of mine for so long,
37:40
Speaker 6: and what you all do here at Metro News, but
37:44
Speaker 6: it is really worth revisiting, and especially as a mother
37:48
Speaker 6: of a child who's getting ready to graduate in the
37:50
Speaker 6: read school of media. How do we correct how do
37:53
Speaker 6: we get something to people quick if it is important
37:55
Speaker 6: and we know it to be true, if it is beneficial.
38:00
Speaker 6: And that's the thing that I honestly, when I see
38:02
Speaker 6: situations happen like this, really, David, that's the thing that
38:05
Speaker 6: I that I worry about the most.
38:06
Speaker 3: Don't get me started on this because I won't have
38:09
Speaker 3: any time for you. I mean, I'll tell you. You know,
38:12
Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, we had that horrible chemical
38:15
Speaker 3: that's right, but the time, and I'm not downplaying the
38:18
Speaker 3: injuries by any stretch of the imagination. We had people
38:20
Speaker 3: reporting it was as mass casualty event. I mean again,
38:24
Speaker 3: I'm not downplaying the seriousness of it. But you know
38:27
Speaker 3: it's not your place to post that on Facebook. Okay,
38:31
Speaker 3: that's not you've not been trained on how to do this. Yeah,
38:35
Speaker 3: I'm not a journalist. I don't I don't pretend to be, Okay,
38:38
Speaker 3: but let the professionals handle that.
38:40
Speaker 6: Yeah, you know the rules of the rules I think
38:42
Speaker 6: of when to post and how to post. It never
38:44
Speaker 6: really be any different if you know something to be true.
38:47
Speaker 6: That's when you posted I heard that's what.
38:49
Speaker 17: Yeah.
38:50
Speaker 6: But I do appreciate people wanting information. I am so
38:53
Speaker 6: please don't misunderstand. I want people to get information and
38:56
Speaker 6: quickly and quickly, especially if it has something to do
39:00
Speaker 6: with their safety. But when you don't know and you
39:02
Speaker 6: start lobbing things into the air, it certainly scares folks.
39:06
Speaker 6: Fortunately for us, no one was injured. It was an
39:09
Speaker 6: unfortunate but you know, successful drill and exercise that these
39:13
Speaker 6: poor children had to go through. And administrators, but we
39:16
Speaker 6: should be doing that, by the way. You know, we
39:18
Speaker 6: do it at law enforcement, we do it all the time.
39:20
Speaker 6: We do it in city Hall, we do it across
39:22
Speaker 6: the city. By the way, we had an exercise that
39:24
Speaker 6: happened last friday. We were going through some drills as
39:27
Speaker 6: well as we do with our homeland security team. Those
39:29
Speaker 6: are the things that I can promise you will continue
39:32
Speaker 6: to happen because when the temperature gets very high and
39:35
Speaker 6: people get anxious, first responders have to remain calm and cool.
39:40
Speaker 6: That's why we say it.
39:41
Speaker 3: All right, City Council is tonight and there is I
39:46
Speaker 3: think you're going to be talking about a bill about
39:50
Speaker 3: rec centers and a fee or something talk about them.
39:53
Speaker 6: Yeah. Sure. So here's the good news. The good news
39:56
Speaker 6: is we have over the past handful of years put
39:59
Speaker 6: in more than twenty million dollars in our parking rex facilities.
40:03
Speaker 6: That's the good news. The good news is kids have better,
40:06
Speaker 6: safer places to play with upgraded equipment. Every year we
40:11
Speaker 6: invest more and more into our kids because that was
40:13
Speaker 6: a promise we made and a promise we kept. However,
40:17
Speaker 6: when you when you start to invest and you have
40:20
Speaker 6: all of these new shiny toys, everyone wants to participate.
40:23
Speaker 6: That's what we want. By the way, we don't make
40:25
Speaker 6: money off of our parking rec center, so let me
40:27
Speaker 6: go ahead and also state that to you, Dave. But
40:30
Speaker 6: what we've needed to do is be a little bit
40:31
Speaker 6: more clear if you'd like to rent the field, if
40:34
Speaker 6: you'd like to rent. You know, we have now disc
40:37
Speaker 6: golf course competitions that come in. It's a new thing
40:41
Speaker 6: for me. I'm understanding it little by little every day,
40:44
Speaker 6: but we're getting inundated. That is a good thing. With
40:47
Speaker 6: requests to host softball tournaments, baseball leagues, which is fabulous.
40:52
Speaker 6: You know, basketball leagues are coming in and we want
40:54
Speaker 6: to accommodate everyone. We just need to make sure that
40:57
Speaker 6: our rules are a little tightened up. We also need
41:00
Speaker 6: to make sure that oh, by the way, I still
41:01
Speaker 6: have to clean, I still have to returf, I still
41:04
Speaker 6: have to have our team there lad into the evening.
41:08
Speaker 6: And so we need to make sure that we are investing,
41:11
Speaker 6: putting back into the usage of those fields and courts
41:14
Speaker 6: and golf courses and areas as well. But as you
41:19
Speaker 6: will note tonight that we will as counsel and of
41:22
Speaker 6: course our Parking res Chairwoman Caitlin Cook and others who
41:26
Speaker 6: have really helped us along the way. Council Member Chad
41:29
Speaker 6: Robinson also on Parking Rex is that we are being
41:33
Speaker 6: accommodating and fair. I don't want to charge somebody. I
41:35
Speaker 6: don't want to charge the little team who's coming into practice.
41:39
Speaker 6: We want to make sure that still if you are
41:42
Speaker 6: coming in for individual use of things, that it is
41:45
Speaker 6: that it is free. That if you want to throw
41:47
Speaker 6: a golf you know, bag on your back, and you
41:49
Speaker 6: want to go out with your kids, it is free
41:51
Speaker 6: still to do those things in the City of Charleston.
41:54
Speaker 6: When you're swimming, we want kids swimming during the summer.
41:57
Speaker 6: We want to make sure those things are free. But
41:59
Speaker 6: as we know when we started to invest in the fields,
42:02
Speaker 6: this is big money and so we have to make
42:04
Speaker 6: sure that if there are teams coming into play, that
42:07
Speaker 6: we have good guidelines that we're going to follow. And
42:10
Speaker 6: so you'll watch that pass through tonight.
42:13
Speaker 3: Texas. Can you ask the mayor for an update on
42:15
Speaker 3: the Capital Connector project?
42:16
Speaker 6: Yes, thank you so much. So, as you well know,
42:20
Speaker 6: this is an amazing twenty seven million dollar project at
42:24
Speaker 6: the end of the day, from Magic Island to the
42:26
Speaker 6: thirty fifth Street Bridge. We are enhancing our riverfront. It
42:31
Speaker 6: has sorely needed it for so many years. It's an
42:33
Speaker 6: area of our city where it is highly used but
42:37
Speaker 6: has been underdeveloped, if you will. And so we are
42:41
Speaker 6: getting ready to break ground in a couple of months
42:44
Speaker 6: on this and just working of course with our federal
42:47
Speaker 6: highway partners and of course the state of West Virginia
42:50
Speaker 6: to make sure that we have more, safer, better lit
42:55
Speaker 6: bicycle walking lanes. You know, I was on a motorcycle
43:01
Speaker 6: by the way I heard this week kind on the
43:03
Speaker 6: bull of Art.
43:05
Speaker 2: It was fun, but.
43:07
Speaker 6: That boulevard, as we should we're a river city, we
43:10
Speaker 6: should be using the Riverfront and now we are investing
43:14
Speaker 6: fortunate to leave with a lot of our federal partners
43:17
Speaker 6: the dollars that we've needed to really upgrade that area.
43:20
Speaker 3: I'm going to take a break, and then I got
43:22

Speaker 20: abandoned our West Virginia traditional Christian family values, is ranked
44:27

Speaker 3: Check them out this Saturday nights at Ribfest in Marmatt's
45:47
Speaker 3: Amus Steel Band Charles Mary Amy Schuler Good One is
45:50
Speaker 3: here for the Mayor, Texas. Seventh Avenue medians in North
45:54
Speaker 3: Charleston need mode. The grass is close to hip level.
45:57
Speaker 3: Those Seventh Avenue Medians are in a city responsible, but
46:00
Speaker 3: it's an entrance to the city. I know it's a
46:02
Speaker 3: poor area in an area in your chemical plant. So
46:04
Speaker 3: it's likely why the state neglects. And however it's an
46:06
Speaker 3: entrance to the city and its maintenance, or like there
46:08
Speaker 3: are reflects on the city maybe pressure of the state,
46:11
Speaker 3: so that part of the city doesn't seem so neglected.
46:13
Speaker 6: Thank you so much.
46:14
Speaker 3: She's taking notes speak literally in texting.
46:17
Speaker 6: Andrew also just to make sure that we put a
46:20
Speaker 6: note on that as well and put in our Q
46:21
Speaker 6: alert system. Thank you for the call. Appreciate it, you know,
46:24
Speaker 6: I will say it's it's the season. Tis the season.
46:27
Speaker 6: We're going to get a lot of high grass calls,
46:29
Speaker 6: a lot of mowing calls, and we get to them
46:31
Speaker 6: as fast, I promise you as we possibly possibly can.
46:34
Speaker 6: We work as best as we can with partners. You know,
46:36
Speaker 6: when I first became mayor, I said, I don't want
46:38
Speaker 6: it to be the first thing you respond to somebody
46:41
Speaker 6: is by saying, well, that's a state road, or that's
46:43
Speaker 6: a federal issue, or that's not a If you live
46:45
Speaker 6: in the city of Charleston and you work in the
46:46
Speaker 6: City of Charleston, it's an our issue. And so that's
46:49
Speaker 6: why we have really maintained and house, really good relationships
46:54
Speaker 6: with folks at a federal level on a state level,
46:56
Speaker 6: because listen and Nate and they with us because like it,
46:59
Speaker 6: levet or hate it, we have to get along. We
47:01
Speaker 6: have to work together. And that's what's always missing at
47:04
Speaker 6: this time of year, is that what happens in the
47:07
Speaker 6: real work of municipal government and state government and federal government.
47:12
Speaker 8: It's work. That's what we do.
47:14
Speaker 6: There's no yelling, no screaming, no adds, no funny stuff
47:18
Speaker 6: going on.
47:18
Speaker 3: It's work.
47:19
Speaker 6: It's when you when you know, what are you doing
47:21
Speaker 6: with your crews? What roads are you hitting? First, we're
47:23
Speaker 6: getting to do a massive paving project, the largest one
47:26
Speaker 6: we've had in a long time. Guess who we have
47:28
Speaker 6: to work with because there are partners, the state and
47:31
Speaker 6: the federal we have to and so it is imperative
47:35
Speaker 6: that we have good relationships. So when we call and say, hey,
47:38
Speaker 6: seventh Avenue, where's it on your list? And oh, by
47:40
Speaker 6: the way, we have MOUs We have agreements as well
47:45
Speaker 6: with the state because we're good partners and they're good partners,
47:49
Speaker 6: and we try to really make sure that we're helping
47:51
Speaker 6: each other out when when we can. But also our
47:54
Speaker 6: guys and gals are running nine ways to Sunday, especially
47:57
Speaker 6: when Mother Nature reigns, and during this time of year,
48:00
Speaker 6: everything does. I bet you it is probably up to
48:02
Speaker 6: your head.

48:15
Speaker 3: All right, I've only had about five minutes, actually less
48:17
Speaker 3: than five minutes of the show. Early voting is going
48:20
Speaker 3: on now. Election Day is one week from tomorrow. You're
48:24
Speaker 3: on a ballot. You have opposition in the Democratic primary.
48:29
Speaker 3: Why should someone vote to re elect Amy Goodwin?
48:32
Speaker 6: Well, it might be the you know, maybe I'll start
48:35
Speaker 6: with the last thing that I just said. It is
48:37
Speaker 6: about partnerships. It is about maintaining and creating and hosting
48:42
Speaker 6: good partnerships. By the way, that is not you know,
48:45
Speaker 6: I'm not just representing Democrats. I'm not just representing Republicans
48:50
Speaker 6: or independence. I'm representing everyone. Good partnerships through the federal government,
48:55
Speaker 6: through our state government, you know, having worked in this
48:58
Speaker 6: system a long time, it is important. It is important
49:03
Speaker 6: to know who you can call, who you can partner with,
49:05
Speaker 6: and the things that we can build and grow upon.
49:08
Speaker 6: You know, I'm really proud of the things that we
49:10
Speaker 6: have done. And as I have said to you, Dave
49:13
Speaker 6: many many a time, I think this is a sprint
49:17
Speaker 6: and I feel like I have as much energy as
49:20
Speaker 6: I did when I first started. I have more information,
49:24
Speaker 6: that's for sure than when I first started. The things
49:27
Speaker 6: that we said that we were going to do, we did.
49:30
Speaker 6: We continued to work on other things that we said
49:33
Speaker 6: we're going to swing. We're going to swing. By the way,
49:36
Speaker 6: not every single thing that we have tried new ideas
49:40
Speaker 6: have been successful. But the thing I'm most proud about is,
49:44
Speaker 6: and I say it a lot, I am only one
49:47
Speaker 6: of seven hundred plus employees. I get a lot of
49:49
Speaker 6: credit because you know, they put my picture on the
49:52
Speaker 6: wall and they put my name on the stationery. But
49:55
Speaker 6: I feel like I have been a very good team
49:58
Speaker 6: member to this team we have in the city of Charleston.
50:02
Speaker 6: Hiring and working and surrounding yourself with really competent, really
50:07
Speaker 6: good people who are as we just said, calm, cool, collected,
50:11
Speaker 6: who understand finance, who understand process, who understand how to
50:16
Speaker 6: work through legislation, who understand the partnerships that you need
50:20
Speaker 6: to have to get things done. And so I'm a
50:23
Speaker 6: big believer in momentum matters. You know, the city of
50:27
Speaker 6: Charleston has seen the type of growth we haven't seen
50:30
Speaker 6: in a very long period of time. And something that
50:33
Speaker 6: folks rarely talk about is our financial position in the
50:36
Speaker 6: city of Charleston is the best it has been in decades,
50:41
Speaker 6: plural decades. And that's something I'm incredibly, incredibly proud about.
50:47
Speaker 6: And it is because we have been thoughtful, We take
50:50
Speaker 6: our time, and we do the really hard lifting of
50:54
Speaker 6: the very heavy work that needs to happen. And also,
50:58
Speaker 6: I love this city. I think of the people who
51:01
Speaker 6: live here as my family. There's not one area of
51:03
Speaker 6: the community I can't walk down the street and know somebody.
51:07
Speaker 6: It's not opinion, that's just a fact. I've been in
51:10
Speaker 6: every single part of this city. I've walked all of
51:14
Speaker 6: the roads in this city. It's thirty three square miles
51:17
Speaker 6: and I love each and every piece of it. You know,
51:21
Speaker 6: this is my final sprint of this election, and this
51:26
Speaker 6: is my final sprint.
51:27
Speaker 2: In this job.
51:28
Speaker 6: I have loved it and I want to do it
51:30
Speaker 6: one more.
51:31
Speaker 3: Time and this is it after this term if you win,
51:34
Speaker 3: this is it right?
51:35
Speaker 6: In this job, yes, sir.
51:36
Speaker 3: In this job interesting? Okay, Choleson Mary Amy Schulder a
51:40
Speaker 3: good one. Always ask all the candidates you have a
51:42
Speaker 3: for your campaign, a Facebook page or a website or yeah,
51:45
Speaker 3: I sure do.
51:45
Speaker 6: You can find me on Facebook. Amy, good one for Charleston.
