- 0:01So I see you're also traveling with your son. What boy prison are you
- 0:05taking him to? Actually, Justin and I are going to the Oregon Shakespeare
- 0:08Festival. Sir Peter Hall himself is directing. See Bart, I told you
- 0:12think it could be worse. I'm giving a sweatshirt with Shakespeare's face on it.
- 0:17Well, we better get back to the prious son. Don't forget the
- 0:19menu for a scrap book. Four Finger Discount, dude, welcome to Fourfinger
- 0:45Discount. The podcasts that are certainly fourth bus. This week we are HiT's
- 0:48a review episode h ab F zero four. It is where on the Road
- 0:53to do Well. I'm gy and I'm also very impressed by Dando's delightful dulcet
- 1:00tones. Is wonderful singing voice. You have to listeners, you have to
- 1:03tolerate me breaking into song occasionally, and I'm amazed that you so so many
- 1:08of you remain tuned in during that time. But yeah, Dano doesn't break
- 1:12into song often enough, and I think you'll agree you should do it more
- 1:15often. You know what's funny is you and I we have our little creative
- 1:19outlets that we've we've worked on things over the years, but we've never really
- 1:22whether it be shown it to anybody or finished it. And when I was
- 1:26a teenager, got the guitar, and I used to love writing songs.
- 1:27And I've found an old laptop in the drawer you got through the drawers here
- 1:30in the studio. The other day I found an old laptop that had all
- 1:33the songs that I've sort of recorded straight into my laptop mic when I was
- 1:36like nineteen eighteen years old. I'm like, some of these have I tweaked
- 1:40them a little bit, are actually pretty good. But I'm also just like,
- 1:42but I'm embarrassed to show them anybody, But like I genuinely think that
- 1:46some of them are okay. Like I think, maybe, well I'll have
- 1:48to do one day is finish off those things we call them with the prople
- 1:49of mics here and maybe thrown out to the patrons and see what they think.
- 1:53In my way of eighteen year old Dando's songwriting, I think you should
- 1:57absolutely do that. Yeah, I mean, the thing is the most that
- 2:00can happen is there to say it's ship And I'm like, yeah, well
- 2:01whatever, but you know, but yeah, they didn't be the worst thing
- 2:06that could happen. How how is. How is your weekend? How's you
- 2:07eat been? My weekend was very nice. Actually there was a little bit
- 2:13of business that Again, I know we're being very kind of we're being teasers
- 2:19and saying there are big things afoot at the four Finger discount network, But
- 2:23there was a little bit of business going on, but also a lot of
- 2:25just leisure. I was hanging out with the lovely Louise. We had a
- 2:29really nice weekend, just you know, just very chill um, but just
- 2:34felt very shall we say connected. It's lovely. It's just good, just
- 2:38good to hang out. In regards to those teasers, when are you announcing
- 2:40your only fans accountant? I know I should really start charging for a giving
- 2:46that. I'm you know, throwing out semi nude picks all the time on
- 2:50social media exactly right? Or you're only sending them to me? Do you
- 2:53think you said to everybody to send them to me? I thought I was
- 2:55the exclusivity, exclusivity of them. Oh, you gotta share it, or
- 2:59you gotta share the love. Well, it's planning to share it, isn't
- 3:01there? Oh? Unfortunately too much to share? Oh no, I'm talking
- 3:06about down there? Oh I thought you were talking about just everywhere. Very
- 3:13sweet of you to say so, and wholly inaccurate. We're here to discuss
- 3:16that we're on the road to doughwear. Such a bizarre episode and that there
- 3:21was to me so much filler but had no resolution. I was like,
- 3:24this episode had no ending, but there were so many scenes that just seemed
- 3:27to go on forever. I'm like, you're clearly filling time. You couldn't
- 3:30think of an ending. You were one hundred and fifty percent right in saying
- 3:35so. I mean, yeah, there's at least two opportunities, at least
- 3:38two moments in this episode where I'm like, Okay, is this filler or
- 3:44are they going for that whole cape for your rake gag stand less extent?
- 3:49Yeah, where you know it does the whole three sixty of like, Okay,
- 3:53this was funny, Now this is not funny. It's so unfunny.
- 3:58It's gone back to being funny. And then it became unfunny game because it
- 4:00went so long. That's the thing. It did it at least twice moments.
- 4:03I've got it didn't even do a three. It didn't even do a
- 4:06three sixty. It did hands to do some maths, yet it did like,
- 4:10hey, what's three sixty plus one eighty? It did a five twenty?
- 4:13It did I think it's five forties and it did a five forty.
- 4:17I only know that because a five forty splash and wrestlings when they do like
- 4:21a fourthom assault and then landing on their stomach. That's any RESU five forty
- 4:26wrestling home my maths and your teachers will saying, Dando, stop watching that
- 4:30wrestling. You know you should be paying attention to me, your maths teacher.
- 4:32It's like, why, why is your why is your math teacher snagglepus
- 4:38exit stage left, exited your next class? So, but yeah, it
- 4:45did, it did a five, It did a five forty. I mean,
- 4:47and it did that on least two occasions. Or the Flanders moment was
- 4:49one where he kept singing. You had the car scene with them with the
- 4:54exits Homer and Bart where he's going where he's touching the car and Homer say
- 5:00I'm gonna get you. No, I'm not, I'm gonna get to another
- 5:00one then stop the steam montage where it was just different elements of the school
- 5:04being affected by the steam. I was just like, there's probably too too
- 5:08many here. It didn't need this many, so there's just lots of filler.
- 5:11But and even another thing. We had the full intro as well,
- 5:14so they literally wasted like a minute and twenty five seconds just the intro.
- 5:16I'm like, so you thought you run out of time? But why did
- 5:18you not have an I said, this is what I did, right,
- 5:20So what I thought was all right, how could you have wrapped this episode
- 5:24up? And this is how Dando would have handled this episode? And I
- 5:27came up with this in honest to god, I reckoned twenty seconds. Right,
- 5:30you have home Room Bart, Right, but Mos announced he's taking the
- 5:33guys to Vegas. Right, that's a fun episode in itself. That should
- 5:36have been right. Homer says they're gonna take Bart to the airport. He
- 5:40drops him off at the front, says, can I trust your boy to
- 5:42go inside? Of course you can, Dad. He somehow sneaks into the
- 5:44trunk of the car. Homer then takes Bart to the bus. He somehow
- 5:46sneaks on the bus, ends up in Vegas with Home Room whatever, blah
- 5:49blah blah, shenandigans but they don't know Barts. They're Barts off gambling or
- 5:53it does whatever makes a bunch of money. Meanwhile, you have the yard
- 5:56sales storyline, the b plot Margins are getting taken to prison, she needs
- 6:00but uses his winnings to get Marge at a jail, and a story.
- 6:03Everything's back to full circle. Marge is angry at Bart, but you know
- 6:06in this in the end, it all worked out because here able to get
- 6:09ahead Bay our money, Agins and Las Vegas with Bart, Homer and the
- 6:12guys. I thought that'd be far more enjoyable. Everything tied up in a
- 6:15nice, neat little bow. Yeah, I mean, look, we can
- 6:17finesse that a little bit, certainly, but yeah, I think that's much
- 6:20better than what we got, which was a jumble. Yeah, this episode
- 6:26was a mess. I mean it wasn't necessarily I mean, it wasn't bad
- 6:31so much. I mean there, I think there are lots of parts of
- 6:33it that worked fine, but they were really sort of individual bits and pieces
- 6:38started throughout. This had faulty structure, but good decorating, if you know
- 6:41what I mean. I like a story of Homer and Bart bonding that that
- 6:45was good in hand. Homer sort of realized, I wait a minute,
- 6:46I miss Bart. I enjoy having Bart around. But there was just too
- 6:49much randomness just thrown in between. This just it didn't feel like it was
- 6:53flowing very well at all. And like you just said, it's just a
- 6:55bunch of random shit ap me all the time. It's just a bunch of
- 6:57stuff that happened, as we like to say. Yeah, but and I
- 7:00think, yeah, that that core idea of MM I like what makes bart
- 7:06bars and you know what, not wanting to sacrifice that in order to get
- 7:12him to be on the straight and narrow. I don't know, I think
- 7:14that's an interesting idea and one that you should that you should explore, a
- 7:17one that you can explore. I don't think it was done all that well
- 7:19in this in this particular episode, they sort of they paid lip service to
- 7:23it certainly, but it didn't really resolve itself all that well. And so
- 7:29this felt so as higgledy piggledy. Yeah, it's like, hey, you're
- 7:33sort of on the right track. Oh no, you've you've taken a weird
- 7:36u turn or you've made an off ramp and now what's going on? And
- 7:42you know, lapses in intelligence and lapses in character just an an old,
- 7:46an odd episode. I mean, and you know, after the high points
- 7:51we've enjoyed in the last couple of episodes of season seventeen, So I'm you've
- 7:56sort of you've fallen off track a little bit. Here was just sort of
- 8:00just like good, good premise, and but I just think that the focus
- 8:03was just put on the wrong things. The focus needed to be more on.
- 8:05I just think there's so much fun to be had with the guys in
- 8:07Las Vegas. Grand You've already had home in Flanders in Las Vegas, but
- 8:11I think Bart getting up to Shenanigan's in Las Vegas by getting there via the
- 8:15bus would have been so much more fun. It's kind of like Bart on
- 8:18the Road kind of style. And then Mar just like, you know,
- 8:20she's furious that you know, Bart's in prison, but then she ends up
- 8:22in Vegas doing doing naughty shit. But then in turns she gets sent to
- 8:26prison, and then Bart has to use his money that he makes from being
- 8:30in Las Vegas somehow has some winnings. Is at the bailout of prison.
- 8:33I thought that'd be a fun way to sort of bring it all full circle
- 8:35and connect the dots, because you just get to the end and it's like
- 8:37you clearly just had no idea where to go with this. But yeah,
- 8:41yeah, but you had probably you could have literally taken out like five minutes
- 8:43of the ship in this episode, like for example, for in my opinion,
- 8:46you could have just ended that steam moment of all the steam going off
- 8:50for us skin of being chased by all the bolts that are exploding him screaming
- 8:54steam with the steam chasing him in the background, and it just cut to
- 8:56the school or fucked up. I don't need all the other montage bits,
- 9:00that's true. I mean the stuff in the music room with Largo and you
- 9:03know, capella because the yeah, because the instruments are all rusted, and
- 9:09you know, and yet another dumb Ralph gag and Ralph was reaching sicho mel
- 9:13proportions at this stage or um. Yeah, there was a lot, just
- 9:18it was so all over the shop and it wasn't so much annoying as it
- 9:22was frustrating. It's like, just we can pull some of these together and
- 9:26you know, just tighten it up a bit. This episode would I wouldn't
- 9:31say it to be like a classic or anything like that, but it certainly
- 9:33be better than it was. It just felt so loose, but like a
- 9:37loose unit. It just kind of felt like, right, we've got an
- 9:39extra episode to fill in for this season, Let's get a couple of stories
- 9:43that we can't quite finess through for a full twenty and sort of jammed them
- 9:46in there with a bunch of other ship and just to me, like at
- 9:48the end, I was like, it was fine, but it just yeah,
- 9:50it just feels like it didn't reach its potential. That's all. Yeah,
- 9:52that's I sort of walked away a little more I would say, angry,
- 9:58but just kind of what it's sort of bit bemused, a little a
- 10:03little frustrated as opposed to well that sucked. Yeah, not quite guys.
- 10:07Plus, I think I've just got to a big issue with I don't think
- 10:11Marge would be that dumb to sell used, you know, painkillers, especially
- 10:18see the thing is you had Snake pointed out to her that it's illegal.
- 10:22I think Marge. I could buy Marge being oblivious to the fact that what
- 10:26she's doing was illegal. She's just selling expired drugs, right, But when
- 10:30it's when I can't buy Marge deliberately selling illegal shit. I just that's just
- 10:33not the Marge. That there's just something that there's not something Marge would do.
- 10:37It's not something Lisa would be down with either, you know, so
- 10:41yeah, I don't know, or even if you have, Marge sort of,
- 10:45I don't know. I'll be willing to go with it. I'm willing
- 10:48to go with that for the sake of them because it was kind of a
- 10:50fun little I like a good yard sale, like that story had potential,
- 10:54but it reminded me it was actually quite similar to the were you doing the
- 10:56show when we did the super Bowl episode with Vincent Price and Marginal List are
- 11:01painting eggs. Now there might be season nine. Actually I don't think I
- 11:03was on board for that. Okay, Yeah, that's where they go to
- 11:05the super Bowl and Dolly Parton's there in the Snoopy alf at things like that.
- 11:07So the guys will go to the super Bowl and marginally left at home
- 11:11board thinking of things to do, and they start playing board games and painting
- 11:13eggs by Vincent Price and things like that. It felt like this episode,
- 11:16this felt very very similar. It's just there wasn't much to it. Yeah,
- 11:22I love the idea of a yard sale as kind of a remember when
- 11:24the episode it's it's a really good framework for a Hey, remember when this
- 11:28happened, you know, and Homer's barbershop quartet essentially. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:33that's basically what that is. I just the opening act was just it was
- 11:39such a long winded opening act to get to Bart's just in trouble again.
- 11:43Look like there was just such a long went for ages and it was like,
- 11:46so the whole steam thing doesn't actually come into the story at all.
- 11:50It's just Bart's ruined the school again. So Skinner wants to send him to
- 11:54like a school, like a camp. It's like a boot camp. You
- 11:56could have fucking done that in like thirty seconds. It didn't need the steamship
- 12:01anyway. Hey, my favorite did you have any favorite moments from the episode?
- 12:05My favorite moments, and there weren't many from this episode, but they
- 12:09were primarily lennybody Vegas for partially risquing. He's so proud of that. Yeah,
- 12:18turning Vegas or Bust into Vegas for bust. Get some pretty good word
- 12:22play on the part of Lenny. Well done to you, sir. Congratulations.
- 12:24Maybe he's the one fully around with the church's sign, not Nelson.
- 12:28Oh maybe a very nice conspiracy theory he actually um, but also just the
- 12:35when he's on the other end of the line with Homer, and I just
- 12:39thought that line was quite I can't talk now, Homer. I'm sat.
- 12:43I'm just satisfied in every way. Imagine being in that moment, like you're
- 12:48just satisfied in every way possible would be the greatest. I mean, he's
- 12:50fucking riding a roller coaster with showgirls and an Elephant's pretty awesome. That's not
- 12:54too bad. Yeah, he's eating the jackpot metaphorically and literally, and so
- 13:00yeah, I think that were my favorite moments from this episode. How about
- 13:03you, Danna, I like a good driving through a birthplace gag. I
- 13:05liked the mac graining, except he says Matt groaning in here. I'm yeah,
- 13:09I was curious about that if that was like a deliberate you know,
- 13:13people mispronounced this all the time, or they're taking a bit of a swipe
- 13:16at their feeler's leader or something like that. Yeah, what was an Oregon
- 13:20birthplace of Matt groaning? And um, yeah, when they well, yeah,
- 13:26they're a few swipes at Matt this episode when they just destroy his house
- 13:30yet his birthplace, Yeah, he's going, by the way. The writer
- 13:33of this episode, Kevin Curran, who unfortunate passed away in twenty sixteen.
- 13:37I never realized he was the one of the producers of Mad Children and he
- 13:41was the voice of Buck the dog for real. Yeah, that and then
- 13:46and then it was for a while before his death. Obviously, you're like,
- 13:48I think it was like late two thousands. He was, he was
- 13:50dating Helen Fielding and he had two children. Though, well, that sounds
- 13:54like a life well lived. Yeah, short, unfortunately, but well under
- 13:58you I mean this episode not so much, but certainly married with children and
- 14:03your marriage and parenthood. Yes, sounds lovely. Any more brain Busters?
- 14:09Brain Buster? The time is the Davis, I'm gonna read at the time.
- 14:11I'm not gonna I'm gonna read out the date, and I'm gonna give
- 14:15you clue show away. I've got clues here waiting for me. It's gonna
- 14:16see if you can sort of just throw what to have one guess of what
- 14:18might be in the top three. You don't think get all of just guess
- 14:20one. Right, So it's January twenty ninth in two thousand and six,
- 14:24think of really, really really early two thousand and six. So if you
- 14:28can think of anything that might have been in the top three, any ideas
- 14:31I've got no idea. And I was talking about this with Lou on the
- 14:33weekend because you know, we both realize time's getting away from us. Well
- 14:39it's fun times. At the when Guy and Lou together was basically we're getting
- 14:43old. This sucks and well, Nicola and I were driving up to Melbourne
- 14:46to see Fairwell one of our friends. Shout out to Matt Blonde, one
- 14:50of my lifelong friends. He's going to America for work for three years.
- 14:52But we're driving Melbourn. Let's put some nineties bangers on and put this song
- 14:56on. Nicola put that on that All Saints Never Ever song one. Right,
- 15:00I'm like, that song came out twenty seven years ago? Are you
- 15:03kidding me? Like, holy shit, it's literally like a lifetime like what's
- 15:07going on here? But anyway, continue, Yeah, you and low Hut.
- 15:15I'd say, I don't know if it's you know, my grumpy old
- 15:18man pants slash hat or you know the cultural desert that was the two thousands.
- 15:24It's like if you said, I can't tell the difference when something that
- 15:28came out in two thousand and six and twenty sixteen, and particularly sort of
- 15:31thinking about you know, the mid to late two thousands, Like, I
- 15:35think this might be a bit of a cultural desert. I lost touch with
- 15:39pop culture. I think I m about twenty ten. I remember at twenty
- 15:43ten, I was just like anything after twenty ten just happened yesterday to me.
- 15:46I just can't tell the difference. Yeah, that's it. Yeah,
- 15:48I'm not sure exactly. So, Yeah, the blockbuster Brainbuster is very much
- 15:52busting my brain. I'll give you some clues in let's here you go,
- 15:56thank you. So. Number one the clue is doubt fire. Number two
- 16:00the clue is Dresser, and number three the clue is Jacob. Okay,
- 16:04you like you know, I like to be pretty pretty. That's that's quite
- 16:08obscure clue. But let me try and break it down a bit. Well,
- 16:12if we're talking dad fire, we're either talking Robin Williams, maybe Sally
- 16:17Field or his pros, or we're talking drag and again the Feldly we might
- 16:22be talking drag, yes, yeah, correct, we might be talking yes.
- 16:29And I'm wondering what sort of came out around too. Well. Other
- 16:32prominent drag of the of the two thousands, and the one that sort of
- 16:36leaps to mind the most is probably um, I was better King of the
- 16:41saucy Martin Lawrence. He said something rather saucy. He did the Big Mama's
- 16:47House movies more than one? Yeah, that three of them. I think
- 16:51there might have been. I'm wondering if he was in the third, or
- 16:52if he sort of passed it over to some young up and comer Wayne's brother.
- 16:57Probably, Um, it could be. It could be. It could
- 17:03be another person in drag or people in drag. That's true. It could
- 17:07be. You could be talking about white chicks. Could be, but I
- 17:11don't think you are. I think you might be talking about Big Mama's House.
- 17:12I am correct, Big Mama's House number two in fact, Oh is
- 17:18it Big Mama's House two? Yes? Okay? Then sorry the second one?
- 17:22Who second clue dresser? Well, are we back with Beautician and the
- 17:27Beast? Or no? No? So think of who she was? Oh,
- 17:30she was the nanny named Fran Yes, okay. Then something to do
- 17:37with nanny's is it? Is it term? The Scarlett Johansson Chris Evans movie
- 17:42The Nanny The Nanny Diaries. No, No, it's not. It's it's
- 17:48stars Emma, Oh it stars Emma Thompson. Yes, I was gonna say
- 17:52I always say the full name is Emma. Um. That was Nanny McPhee.
- 17:59It was a film that I've never seen never, I don't think I
- 18:02have ever, but I remember the post. Yeah, I remember the poster,
- 18:04which I think was was Nannie McFee. She was a silhouette. She
- 18:10might have been coming ugly got Mary Poppins, Poppins, what is this?
- 18:14Yeah, I think she was like an ugly Mary Poppins. And then but
- 18:17she her not good looks, you know, gave the kids a lesson about
- 18:21don't be judging a book by its cover or something like that. Maybe I'm
- 18:22completely mistaken, but Nanny McPhee, I think is the one you're talking about.
- 18:26And the third was Jacob and what was Jacob? Gave the most popular
- 18:32Jacob of the two thousands when it comes to film characters. Oh my god,
- 18:36he's played by Taylor Oh um, Taylor Lawtner. Yes, yeah,
- 18:41so Twilight he was what in Twilight? He was aware Wolf. There's a
- 18:47movie about werewolves. It was a werewolf movie, part of a series,
- 18:51not the first one I was gonna. I was gonna say American Werewolf in
- 18:53Paris, but that was much earlier. Yeah, no, it's um think
- 18:57of it's not a owling. I'll just I'll give you what the second part's
- 19:02called evolution. Oh oh yeah, that's um, that's Underworld Evolution. They
- 19:11used to see them and go, I don't know about these. I never
- 19:12bothered to watch them. Are they worth watching? The Underworld films? You
- 19:17think they'd be movies that I would like because it's essentially vampires versus wear wolf.
- 19:22It looks like Blade Yeah yeah, in sort of a Blade slash Matrix
- 19:26world. I mean, it really is just a blender of all those things.
- 19:30And I remember watching the first one go oh cool, vampires versus wheels.
- 19:33Hey, wait a minute, this is really slow and dull and takes
- 19:37itself way too seriously, and I think Underworld Evolution actually does pretty much the
- 19:41same thing. Fortunately if you're if you're a man of dubious taste like me,
- 19:47The next two in the series, the third and fourth, really sort
- 19:51of steer into the pulpiness and just get a bit gross and dumb and silly,
- 19:56which is you know what you what do you want from you? Vampire
- 19:59versus will movies. So I cannot, in good conscience recommend Underworld Evolution,
- 20:03but check out Underworld Rise of the Lichens and Underworld Awakening. Well, I
- 20:12know they're out there. There go tell us, tell us your thoughts on
- 20:15the Underworld French yet well that is the Yeah, that is the top three
- 20:21of the US box office at the time. My brain, Big Mama's House
- 20:23to Nanny McPhee and Underworld Evolution. I feel like you do a lot better
- 20:27when it comes to them, like the nineties shows that we're doing, like

- 23:08We have Schnitzel, Kickie the nurse, and zach Angus. Like that name
- 23:11is zach Angus? What a name? Zach Angus? Oh my god,
- 23:17either that's a fake name or his parents last name was Angus, And like,
- 23:19how can we think of the coolest fucking name possible. Let's name him
- 23:22Zach Zach Angers at Black Angers. That's fantastic. Oho, I'm partial to
- 23:27Schnitzel. And also, you know the person naming themselves Schnitzel, I think
- 23:32that's pretty good too. All right, so time now for some trivia,
- 23:34mister Davis. What's your most question for we're on the road to do where
- 23:38what was a fine year for Camrays or ninety five? That is correct?
- 23:45What room was the controller staying in? You're talking about controller Atkins. He
- 23:52was in room five h two. Yeah, he's a callback from which episode
- 23:56was it where that's that's where Lisa gets stump a lying, Yeah, when
- 24:00she's playing the dasht ye. Yeah. Yeah, that's when he made his
- 24:03debut. Yeah. Your next question, well, in that case, which
- 24:07room was charmers in? Oh? Three three one eighth three something eight three
- 24:14something? You were so close? What is it? Three eight one very
- 24:18one? Damn? There was a three in There was an eight in there
- 24:21somewhere I couldn't quite and there was a one in there as well. Yeah,
- 24:22so you've got him, but you just jumbled him up a little bit.
- 24:26That's it happens. It happens. What does home always do? His
- 24:30book report on Stuart Little, that cute little mouse. I remember going to
- 24:33the movies to see Stuart Little, and I've never seen it since, but
- 24:37he was he was all the raged for a little while there, A little
- 24:38Stuart Little, wasn't he? Stuart Little got a sequel? He did do
- 24:41it? Little too? Was in Europe European Adventure or something so something like
- 24:45that. When it was allays fouls go to Europe. They even did.
- 24:49It was a spider man, that's correct. Yeah, I'm always curious about
- 24:55the just the mechanics though. Stuart Little. I mean, here's a because
- 24:59they did adopt Stewart Little, didn't they. I mean she actually gave birth
- 25:02to no, to a mouse. No, no, no, she they
- 25:03adopted it. They just didn't get back to a house. Really, okay,
- 25:07he was He was at the orphanage and nobody wanted him, so they
- 25:11took him because he was the human mother did not give birth to a mouse.
- 25:21She's looking at doctor house going, what the hell's going on here?
- 25:25Who was the It was Michael J. Fox, wasn't it? Michael J.
- 25:26Fox was in the the voice of Stuart Little. I don't think it
- 25:29gets any more wholesome than Michael J. Fox. You know, if you're
- 25:30thinking of who's in a voice his wholesome little mouse, Michael J. Fox
- 25:33is your man. You wanted to be wholesome, but you wanted to be
- 25:37full of pep and energy. Yeah, that was such a shame woul happening
- 25:41here. I saw a recent interview where he's really struggling out with his Parkinson's
- 25:44and it's like, man, it's just like it's just such a shame because
- 25:47this seems like such unlovely person. Absolutely, yeah, so no, I
- 25:51saw that on the weekend. Yeah, they there was an interview on US
- 25:53TV with him, and they of course shouted on Australian Australian news as well.
- 25:57And good for him, like he's going out and he's he's promoting Parkinson's
- 26:02and getting the word about and like he's such a strong person for doing so.
- 26:04Oh yeah, one hundred percent. Just a tireless advocate for uh,
- 26:08you know, for research and hope hoping to find a cure. And you
- 26:11have more power to him. I mean, yeah, I've got utmost respect
- 26:15for a man, Michael J. And what's your next question? My next
- 26:19question to you is when bart is flying to Atlanta, what seat is he
- 26:23in? Thirty three C? Three to three C. Indeed, yes,
- 26:30a lot of number questions. Were they flying to it? Either going to
- 26:33land in Atlanta? When where they go back to? Where? Though?
- 26:36Minneapolis? Because I've got I've got here in my answers, in my tribute
- 26:40questions, all of it is Minneapolis. Minneapolis, right, I've always struggled
- 26:44to say that word Minneapolis. And because you read it like an English word.
- 26:47It should be Minneapolis. I don't know. I struggled to say anyway,
- 26:51you said it right, just there, right Minneapolis. I've got that
- 26:55as just one word in my trivia questions. I'm playing Jeopardy again. I'm
- 26:57like, what the fuck was? And then you asked, that's what it
- 27:00was, Minneapolis, Home of Prince. The four Finger Discount Network is brought

- 27:48air day of Where on the Road to Doware was January twenty ninth, two
- 27:51thousand and six. It was written by Kevin Curran and directed by Nancy Cruz.
- 27:55The chopboard gag Teacher was not dumped. It was mutual. I'm sorry
- 27:59for missus Kane, missus Kay. What do you do? Don't don't doubt
- 28:00missus Ka. She's a catch. Yeah, you're not gonna do better,
- 28:04that's anymore? What are you talking about? I mean everyone's already caught her
- 28:07before, but that doesn't matter. The tastiest fish always gets caught. Yeah,
- 28:12and then that sounds all wrong. Yeah. The couch gag is a
- 28:15parody of Bonanza. I'm wondering, even at two thousand and six, how
- 28:22many symptoms? Who was gone? What is this? I mean Banza gag?
- 28:26You know what episode was it that we did a flashback one and now
- 28:30at the mall and there's Bonanza at the start. Remember there was the banana.
- 28:33Yeah, what episode was that? Weren't there three Indians last year's much?
- 28:37That's right? Oh, it's when Homer gets the it's the Homer they
- 28:41fall because that's where they go to the store and um, Hommer looks at
- 28:45the World's Greatest jacket. Oh, that's right. But I mean not to
- 28:52keep turning this into an episode of I Remembers you when. But I mean
- 28:55when I was growing up, Bonanza was almost Yeah, it was on in
- 28:59the afternoon and it was reruns, and it was like even then, I
- 29:02was like, this is an old show, this is this is not fresh
- 29:04material. Yeah, but the thing is Bananza. I think the Simpsons only
- 29:08recently just broke the Bananza records. So bands will always have its place in
- 29:11pop culture or just TV history because it was one of the longest running shows
- 29:15of all time. I thought that was gun Smoke. Oh maybe it was
- 29:18gone. Maybe I'm getting both confused. How do Bonanza go for? Then?
- 29:22I think Bonanza went for a while, and of course it's got that
- 29:25done Little Bonanza, which is a good funny theme song. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:29so maybe that's it. But I'm just wondering, if you know,
- 29:32kids are sitting in front of their not quite flat screen TV's in two thousand
- 29:36and six, going what's this about? What's this a reference to? Four?
- 29:41And it's not working fast enough for me to sort of look it up.
- 29:42Four hundred and thirty two episodes is what Bonanza went for, and gun
- 29:45Smoke went for twenty seasons and how many episodes was that? Four hundred and
- 29:52eighty so pretty close for thirty two and four eighty sooth both okay, but
- 29:56like both iconic in their own in their own respect, Oh very much.
- 30:00Yeah, yeah, but you are right, it is a dated reference.
- 30:02Even in two thousand and six, it was a dated reference. But I
- 30:04think enough people have at least heard the song before and know what was going
- 30:07on. True. Yeah, but uh so, Yeah, as I was
- 30:11saying, we got them the full it was nice. It's kind of nostalgiic,
- 30:12you know, a bit of a nostalgia theme in this episode's kind of
- 30:15started. Just seeing the full intro. I was like, we don't get
- 30:17this very often anymore. The chopboard gag, full intro. Long couch goes
- 30:21like this, this was nice, enjoy it. Why you got it?
- 30:22Yeah, but then enters Skinner's office. Before then he sees Myra, the
- 30:26assistant. I'm like, who who is Myra? Who is this is?
- 30:30Where? Where did this room come from? Just added an assistant to Principal
- 30:36Ski. She's obviously been away for a while. He's like, oh,
- 30:37it's good to see you back. But I'm like, yeah, but she
- 30:38hasn't been missing for seventeen seasons, Like you've just added a character that doesn't.
- 30:42Yeah, just to have this sort of no Madman esque a gag of
- 30:48you know, flirting with the secretary or something like that, which, ye,
- 30:52look I'm going to be a bit of a chump for that kind of
- 30:55that bumm. He told me he was getting a divorce. That always tickles
- 30:59me for some reason, that kind of thing, you know, just bom
- 31:03bom, that's frank good that bom. Yeah, yes, she's leaving her
- 31:08husband the bum And Skinner is outside admiring he's ninety five camera, which has
- 31:12been spending I think it was three months in a lake or something? He
- 31:15says, yeah, correct, That was going to be one of my trivia
- 31:18questions. How many? How many months in a lake? Three months in
- 31:21a lake? And Bart then decides takes advantage of this situation. He starts
- 31:23going through his desk through the office. Have you ever been in a situation
- 31:26where you've been in someone's office or a room where you're like, no one's
- 31:30around. I probably could get away with rummaging through some stuff and just being
- 31:33a bit of a sneak, But should I Yeah, I'm pretty sure I
- 31:37have done this exactly. When I'm not sure, I mean, I probably
- 31:41suppressed that memory because I like to regard myself as a good person and not
- 31:44a snoop. But I'm also a human being, and human beings liked a
- 31:48snoop, don't they. Yeah, It's like, as Alfred Hitchcock says,
- 31:51there's nothing more scary than an unopened door. There's nothing more exciting than an
- 31:53unopened draw. But if I it's the diary, the dance tape of love,
- 32:02the dance tape, just the image on the front. And then he
- 32:07finds the keys to the steam tunnels, and thank you Satan. Just think,
- 32:10no house from now on will always be those kids who got into the
- 32:14steam tunnels. I love the idea of being remembered for something. I'm remembered
- 32:19for something that I'm not allowed to really sound this show because it was cold,
- 32:24that was illegal, It was illegal. I don't want to get anybody
- 32:29in trouble, but so let's just say I had a good night on my
- 32:31graduation. Um, I got taught a lot of things on graduation night.
- 32:43Continue, patrons, if you want to know more, If if you want
- 32:45to know more about this, become a patron And it was funny because like
- 32:49years later like Stacy must bring your friends off, like are you the guy
- 32:52that? And I'm like yeah, like wow, I'm like wow, my
- 32:54legends lived on. But but yeah, so when when they go into the
- 33:02into the tunnels, it reminds me of um at four and used to work
- 33:06at four. We had the basement, right, and he's scrap shoots down
- 33:08there. So basically the machines I went to the stamping plant and the machines
- 33:12that the flat metal, the flat sheet metal would go through, the presses
- 33:14would press it, and the trimmings would fall down these scrap shoots and go
- 33:16into conveyor belts that would eventually end up in a big sort of like it
- 33:21can pack them up into a compactor. But it's over, like the Christmas
- 33:23shutdowns, or it's just there was a night shift. There'll be a guy
- 33:27that used to work downstairs the US. What used to call him, I
- 33:30just have really good troll. I really mean mean like not got to rap,
- 33:35but something like that, right, because he just you know, he'd
- 33:37arrive at like eleven thirty at night and you wouldn't talk to anybody and you
- 33:39just sort of head downstairs and you'd live in the basement, and like some
- 33:42of the ship used to find down stander the basement, like mattresses where people
- 33:45used to go down and root on their lunch break and stuff like that back
- 33:46in the eighties. It's like it's like and it's all untouched. It's just
- 33:50it's just like the Fine eighty five. But things like like calendars on the
- 33:54walls and ship and I'm just like Jesus Christ, but like that that image
- 33:58of them going to the steams just mnd me of going down into the into
- 34:00the basement because sometimes I'd help out over the Christmas break to clean it out.
- 34:04You do clean up over the Christmas break, And yeah, there was,
- 34:06um, it was a strange time back that well, I used to
- 34:12get home. If I used to work that shift at Ford, I'll be
- 34:15getting double time and a half for the first four hours and it was like
- 34:17triple time thereafter. It was like it was crazy money. But like I
- 34:21just look back now, I think I used to really work for my money
- 34:23because it was fucking hard work. You have to like get the shovel and
- 34:27it's have to like clean out all this all the little scraps that would fall
- 34:30out off the conveyor belt and sort of pile up on the floor. And
- 34:32of course they're mixed with oil and ship so they're really sticky and thick and
- 34:36sludgy. You just have to get shovel like listen up and chuck it back
- 34:38onto the conveyor belt. It was hard work. Oh man, no got
- 34:45old man hands now. But anyway, and of course that's where people went
- 34:47dam sets exactly exactly right. The stories I could tell you at four Man,
- 34:52I won't get into them here, but man, it's crazy and they
- 34:54don't mind though, but our mealhouse doesn't mind getting into trouble because it's a
- 34:58form of attention. This is my coming up soon. I'm going to discuss
- 35:00with you as well about Millhouse and his parents. Mo has rented a party
- 35:04bus he's taken up to Vegas because he's won a lawsuit against the rope company
- 35:07after a failed suicide attempt, which I thought it checks out. It's it's
- 35:13very on brand for Mo. Plus they gave him a replacement robe. Hey,
- 35:15nice robe. Hang a cow with that thing. So they're now looking
- 35:20through the crack and oh Dad gave me a long talk about this. But
- 35:23until you see I can't really believe it. You think, of course it's
- 35:25girls, but no, it's the cafe or the school cafeteria, loading dock
- 35:30having pizza tomorrow Gray d frozen pizza and I forgot. Yes, a Millhouse
- 35:36says, now we'll leave that. Touching a valve. What a tail that'll
- 35:37be. Obviously they don't do that. They touch a valve and sets off
- 35:42this big chain chain effects that are just which I thought, which I thought
- 35:45was a very nice visual. Yeah, looks it looks really cool actually,
- 35:49and the skin is walking down the hallway, it's weird. Usually only turned
- 35:52the on Parents' night. And then I thought the getaway he was actually kind
- 35:55of cool. It's kind of like Indiana Jones kind of vibes where he's running
- 35:58away from the ship shooting all this screws firing at him. Absolutely, yeah,
- 36:02he say what the f minus screams out steam. The one bit of
- 36:07the montage that I did enjoy was I enjoyed Martin's hair going off frizzy.
- 36:09Yes, that was good. Yeah, and I didn't mind the fogg to
- 36:13section actually reminded me of of et the Fogg dis Section. Whether the fogs
- 36:15all go crazy because Eliot lets them all loose, and then we get the
- 36:19instruments getting rusty, and the guy Capella and two kinds of wet in my
- 36:22pants, and then Willie's drinks the steam from the fountain and the soda machine.
- 36:25Was like, ah again another gag. That's just yeah, we got
- 36:29it. We got it twice the first time. It's like, Okay,
- 36:32the school's being ruined. Don't need it. Just felt like I was adding
- 36:35an extraally thirty seconds of unnecessary Philly here. But the school is now destroyed
- 36:39by the way that that et science lab segment. Do you know who who
- 36:45played the teacher in that? Of course you do, either principle not the
- 36:49teacher, I mean pretty been Harrison Ford. I do mean Harrison We don't
- 36:52He played the principle, which was from a deleted scene. That's why he's
- 36:54not in the movie. Correct. Yeah, yeah, pretty cool. It's
- 36:57like you actually can watch the deleted scene I think, like from The David
- 37:00or the Blue Rays or whatever, and it's surprising why they cut that out,
- 37:04like you think distract Yeah, it might be a bit too distracting.
- 37:08I think they wanted to rest on ets little shoulders, that's true. Yeah,
- 37:13and um, but The other thing too, is as one of those
- 37:16moments where you know, sometimes come across things in life and you think you
- 37:20know something, You've watched it like thirty times, and you discover something new
- 37:22about and you're like, wow, that's really exciting. So like Et,
- 37:24it's no secret ET is my favorite movie. And I got the soundtrack.
- 37:28Mom bought me the soundtrack score on it was like the twenty th anniversary one
- 37:31of forty anniversary one a couple of years ago, and I'm listening to it
- 37:37on the record player here and it comes a piece of music and I've got
- 37:39the old soundtrack and this was like the extended version, but I've heard it.
- 37:43Basically, it was just the movie directly, the music directly from the
- 37:45movie. But then there was a bit of music. I was like,
- 37:46I never heard this before. The fuck is this? I'm like, what
- 37:51is this music? I've grabbed a cover I looked on the back and it
- 37:52was the music from the deleted Steven Harrison Ford and he goes for like a
- 37:55minute or so, but it was like so exciting. I was like,
- 38:00shit, it's like finding hidden treasure for an et Van, you know what
- 38:04I mean? No, No, that's that's great when something that happens.
- 38:06I mean, particularly you say you've got a favorite movie and you get it
- 38:08on like Blu ray or something, and you've only ever watching on VHS,
- 38:13for instance. Yeah, and all of a sudden, you wait a minute,
- 38:15there's something in the in the corner of the frame there that I've never
- 38:19noticed before. I mean, yeah, I remember seeing that in some horror
- 38:22movie that I really liked, and I only ever seen it on like crappy
- 38:25bootlegs or something like that. And finally a really pristine version came out,
- 38:30and yeah, that's exactly what happened. There's a scene where the main actions
- 38:34sort of going on in the center, but you look over the course it's
- 38:36like, oh oh hey, and it adds a whole new dimension to the
- 38:40scene. It's fantastic. People and you tell people. Most people that the
- 38:44nerd, but I'm like, no, it was. It was exciting for
- 38:45me. Oh yeah, I'm actually picturing you. It was like it didn't
- 38:52mean tears my eye, but it like maybe feel a special. I was
- 38:54like, this is this is love? Like it's like just going hidden treasure.
- 38:57Like I said, I couldn't believe it. I'm just imagining sort of
- 39:00like this listening to a go oh this is lovely? What the fuck going
- 39:02on? I was like, is this? What is it? I got?
- 39:05I was like, hang on, what's going on here? You're like
- 39:08Jack Skeleton, what's this? What's this? But getting back to the episode,
- 39:14of course, yeah, you were talking about the extended montage, but
- 39:17the school is now destroyed. Skinner says, who could this be a millhouse?
- 39:21And but come out laughing and he says, don't worry, you can't
- 39:23get away. I've got you by your scruff, but then offers up millhouse.
- 39:25I'll give you meal house. Don't bother struggling, I've got your scruff.
- 39:34Did I get a deal? I'll give you a mill house. I
- 39:37don't want mill house. Sounds like my parents custody hearing. I'm like,
- 39:43are they not together again? Because last time we saw them they were together
- 39:46and she found the bra and that was just never following up on. I'm
- 39:51like, so did they break up again? Okay? You see your issue
- 39:53with that is picking knits in terms of continuity things like I just don't know
- 39:59if they're still together on well, it's not an issue, but my issue
- 40:01with it is like that's just an unnecessary line. It's I mean, it's
- 40:06it felt so like forced. Yeah, yeah, you've expected here, but
- 40:12yeah, at the close of that was like, yeah, just cut a
- 40:15I don't know. It wasn't necessary and it was kind of cheap and just
- 40:19a not worthy of the Simpsons, let's say, because they've already done this
- 40:23exact gag with nobody likes meal house. Listen, you've got the tension,
- 40:29so they've done that gag. You don't need to add the extra really somber
- 40:32layer of sounds like my parents close to the muting, it's like, now
- 40:37it's not funny, it's just sad. But margin Homer and now in Skinner's
- 40:43office and Miro no longer likes Barnt because he turned it across sandwich into a
- 40:45ham and cheese car crash. I thought that was a great line. I
- 40:49really enjoyed that I've had. Have you had moments where you've made something that
- 40:51you just put a lot of effidence, Like a sandwich, for example,
- 40:53You've got to sit down and you've like fucking spilt your drink on it or
- 40:57something. You're like, curious, now I'm picturing you're doing that. I've
- 41:05got a story for your last Thursday night, right, So I'm watching the
- 41:07kids and I've got left over rosotto for dinner. Well good, it's gonna
- 41:12be an easy night. Nicholas in Melbourne having drinks with her friends from work,
- 41:15so she's gonna be back a couple of hours late. The trains are
- 41:17fucked up at the moment, so it takes like two hours get the melbourn
- 41:20So Nickol's gonna get back at so it'll be all right. Easy microwave rosotto
- 41:23in the get the kids in bed early, be a nice, easy night.
- 41:27Aliot's fine because he's Bobi's sitting there. Holy. Meanwhile, I put
- 41:30the tray down with the bold rosotto and a little cup of a little bit
- 41:32of pepsi, no caffeine on the side. That's what they happened in just
- 41:35a tiny little cup. Put it down. Boom, fucking spills the pepsi.
- 41:38I'm just like Jesus, all right. So I pick it up,
- 41:42and she's carrying on like a peanut because it's pepsio over she puts it.
- 41:44She wants to sit on a blanket. She spilled pepsio over a blanket.
- 41:45I have to change the cover of her blanket. So from frozen one to
- 41:50her Moana one. I refill the pepsi up again, get the tray,
- 41:52put it down, Boom showed away she except this time she also spills the
- 41:57pepsi. I'm not just a blanket but also rosotto. I'm like deepest creepers.
- 42:00I'm like, I'm like Jesus Christ. And then the Pepsi's slowly trickling
- 42:05towards Allie on the couch and he's carrying on. It's getting closes, yeah,
- 42:08getting closes yet damn. I'm like, we'll just move anyway. So
- 42:13I wiped that up, changed the cover again to a lot of Alliott's covers,
- 42:16which is now Spider Man, and he's like, Dad's I'm like,
- 42:20it's just a cover, it'll be fine. I put it down. All
- 42:23is good, and then it's like that's some overing the rosutto, though Holly
- 42:29has taken upon herself too. She's no one going to use a tray.
- 42:30She's going to go sit on her chair, which has the tray like attached
- 42:35to it like a high chair. But she decided to climb to herself,
- 42:37and as she's climbing, she falls backwards and bags the head on the floor.
- 42:39I'm like, oh my fucking god. So I run over. I
- 42:42was like, I'll make it nice and like happy again. I'm holding her
- 42:45microwave stops, I put it down. I got open to microwave. I
- 42:49hear the door slam because she tried to get a new bowl out of the
- 42:51drawer. Bombs, she slammed her fingers in the drawer. This all happened
- 42:52in the space of about six minutes. Oh my god. I just could
- 42:57not I was like, Holly, I am three seconds from throwing you in
- 43:00the bin. I'm not joking. Take this one back. This one's faulty.
- 43:05I was just like, she's like, spilt pepsi over a blanket,
- 43:08and then it spilt pepsi over not just another blanket, but also rosotto,
- 43:12fell off a high chair and jender finger in a drawer. That is the
- 43:15life of a parent. It sounds like a Pink Panther movie. As just
- 43:17catastrophe, just one thing after another. I was like, when when she
- 43:22did the drawer with her finger, I was like, you actually can't be
- 43:24serious, Holy Like, what are you doing? Are you working with me?
- 43:30Anyway? It's good, it's all it's all fun and games. That
- 43:32was indeed a ham and cheese carkra Yeah, it was indeed. Yeah,
- 43:35So how we got to that, of course, it was how it got
- 43:37that. Yes, and Charmers is now on video uplink, which I was
- 43:39like, pretty good technology for a walk in fucking television screen. Where's the
- 43:45working that out? I don't know, so ask questions. But then controller
- 43:49Atkins and Charmers are having a bit of a discussion there both in Scottsdale.
- 43:52They're using shower caps his ice buckets and then they yell at Skinner for whatever
- 43:57reason. So Skinner turns them off and he says to Marge and Homer,
- 44:00he goes, I want to send this Bart to upward bounds and needs the
- 44:04pamphlet. It's going to straighten him out. And I'm like, so all
- 44:06of that was to get to this, Okay, it's like pretty much half
- 44:12my notes are about the inciting incident. Yes, this is a lot,
- 44:17a very long winded way to get to the story. We've already had a
- 44:21million times where skin in one's body get straightened out. The toughest behavioral modification
- 44:28camp in Northwest Oregon. It's the only place cruel enough to straighten Bart out
- 44:32here's a proven concept, tough hate to turn around, foul mouth duligans.
- 44:37Then they send them home quietly ticking away. M This camp's got it all,
- 44:44climbing some kind of rope thing, wearing a backpack, high fiving the
- 44:49black kid. It's the perfect thing. They're straighten you out. Oh got
- 44:53it? Now I have a ring tone my brand new cell phone, no
- 45:01wires at all except this one. The joke about the phone, I was
- 45:07like, what the hell kind of joke was this? My brand new self
- 45:09is? Because it's nineteen ninety five? Was it is? That? Is
- 45:12that? What it was? Was it? I guess you know? I
- 45:15mean, we've already indicated that skinn I can only afford stuff that's hopelessly out
- 45:20of date or yeah, whether it's a ninety five camera or just a early,
- 45:23early, early model mobile phone. I feel like you would have had
- 45:28to have paid more for that phone in two thousand and six than you would
- 45:30have been ninety five, because it'd be hard to find. Probably, I'm
- 45:34gonna remember the kind of mobile phone I had in two thousand and six.
- 45:36Do you do you ever keep your old mobiles or do you just throw them
- 45:38out or resell them or I have kept mine. I've never reselled them resell
- 45:45the one I currently have because I've kept it in good condition. I usually
- 45:46kept my phones a very quick condition, but I've kept like the screen protector
- 45:50on it in a good case and everything like that, so it's actually in
- 45:52pretty pristine condition. So I'll be able to resell this one, but not
- 45:53only I'll shock him in a box in the in the laundry. But of
- 45:57course, you've never upgraded your phone since two thousand and six, so that
- 46:01I think we've talked about how I've still got the Galaxy eight and we're now
- 46:06somewhere in the twenties. It's antique, it's work, it great, get
- 46:09the jo I'm done. In two thousand and six, I would have had
- 46:15not the thirty three fifteen, but like one of the next models up from
- 46:17that would have twelve. At that point, I think I had some the
- 46:21two thousand and six equivalent of a smartphone. They weren't really smart, but
- 46:23they were smart than Yeah. Yeah, I mean I've still got a couple
- 46:29of knockers, the brick ones. You throw them at a wall and they
- 46:31still work. Yeah, pretty much. I think in case of armageddon,
- 46:37like one still work phones anymore. No, they don't. Just you can
- 46:42text and you can play snake. That's all you need. Snake, literally
- 46:45snake. That's just the best. You were king of them. Play great
- 46:49if you had the best grown a snake. Yeah, but I mean others
- 46:52I've tended to like, oh, oh you're getting thrown out or whatever recycled.
- 46:55But yeah, there are one or two that I've kept. I don't
- 46:59know why. Yeah, they just sit there and no one wants them.
- 47:01That's why I guess, so, so I might as well hold onto it.
- 47:06But this is where the guys are getting ready to go to Vegas.
- 47:07Get the Vegas for bus little where I played there with Lenny. Has just
- 47:10got to take Bart to them to the plane before I am, so you
- 47:14can go to the to the camp before I can return. I'll be on
- 47:16my way to Las Vegas with you guys. Dad, if you take me
- 47:20to Vegas. How to cheat at Blackjack? Boy, you don't need to
- 47:22cheat when you go to system. What's your system? I don't show your
- 47:27mother how much I've loted. But Bart is on the no fly list.
- 47:30He's not Lady go because he underd his seat butt. And I was like
- 47:32that's not really that big of a deal. I don't think they've taken the
- 47:36plane around, but whatever, So I've ever told you about at the time
- 47:38I was on the plane the Chopper Read, No, you have not.
- 47:42First of all set up who Chopper Read is for those who don't know international
- 47:45listeners and maybe even now you know more innocent Australian listeners. Chopper Read was
- 47:51a career criminal. Mark Brandon Reid was his full name, but he went
- 47:53by the name Chopper because he chopped off his own ears to get out of
- 47:58to get out of prison. Yeah, which kind of full proof I think,
- 48:00except he went back to prison later. Was played by A Banner in
- 48:04a two thousand film that was pretty big. Really, it was pretty big.
- 48:07It made it made Eric Banner into internet from sketch comedy guy in Australia
- 48:14to international star of Black Hawk Down and Star Trek and other movies. And
- 48:17then it became that guy who was watching Saint Kilda and funny People correct,
- 48:22and now he's the guy who what's Eric Banner doing that? He still thank
- 48:24you football games. I think it's like, hey, legal celebrity, A
- 48:28Banner's watching the team today. It's like we see movie game. But I
- 48:35was on a flight. Yeah, but that's that's Chopper read for you.
- 48:37And he also he became one of those colorful identity users, like he's done
- 48:42all a matter of horrible things. But he also goes around the various nightclubs
- 48:45and you know, a night with Chopper, at which point he'll tell you
- 48:47his stories if you want to see the most confronting news stories. But ever
- 48:52have you seen him one with the gun? Yeah, with the Yeah he
- 48:57was interviewed by was that the one with Renee Brack The in was a woman?
- 49:00Yeah, yeah, on his part or whatever. Yeah, look that
- 49:04up on the on the YouTube, folks, look look look up just Chopper
- 49:07reading news story and he basically plays Russian roulette on camera and doesn't give the
- 49:10good woman an option. It's fucking crazy, it really is. So anyway,
- 49:15I'm on a plane back from Sydney with this guy and we land at
- 49:21Avalon Airport, which is that's outside Geelong, home to dandel and guy.
- 49:27Of course, you know you've been, folks, you've been on a plane.
- 49:30He has. Indeed, he died, oh god, maybe ten years
- 49:34ago, maybe more, No, it wasn't that long, surely. Anyway,
- 49:37continue, folks, we've landed in sunny downtown Geelong. Please keep your
- 49:43seatbelts attached until you keep this bill fastened until we reach the reach the boarding
- 49:47gate. And of course most people do it, or if you do it,
- 49:51you just sort of do it a bit. You're undo it surreptitiously and
- 49:53you don't make a big deal out of it. Chopper just opened his up
- 49:58and stood up and started getting his bags out of the overhead compartment, all
- 50:02of which you're not supposed to do. He just did things exactly. It's
- 50:06just like he's looking for trouble. He just wants he wants someone to say
- 50:08something. And everyone, I think everyone on the plane was of the of
- 50:12one thought. It's like, you tell him you're going to the camp because
- 50:21I'm gonna drive you there. Yeah, that'll be way more fun than Vegas.
- 50:30Oh dang homered coming And Nelson saw something funny. We come back from
- 50:36Commercial Home is now driving crazy to Oregon. We drive past the sign it
- 50:39says farewell from Springfield. That's like the millhouse land or something land of Millhouse,
- 50:46Millhouse maybe graffiti or something, I don't know. And he's looked like
- 50:51graffiti, but it also looked like remember the Angry Day comic that Bart Drew's
- 50:53kind of like that. Yes, yeah, yeah, it was either really
- 50:55good graffiti or really poor official signage. Yeah. So he's driving up I
- 51:00may never know he hates Oregon with the unspoiled for us in the birthplace of
- 51:05Matt Groening. And then Homer is about saying, come on, Fun Homer,
- 51:08you know the tealent change his mind homesas I've pushed Fun Homer away and
- 51:13we get a little vision inside his head. Basically, it's just that Homer's
- 51:15got his mindset. He's going to be getting this day. He's gonna be
- 51:17driving Bart too up to this camp. Here's no way he's getting out of
- 51:20it. Margin Lisa meanwhile preparing the yard sale, going through all the boys
- 51:23useless chunkers as they call it, and they find Homers all these old book
- 51:27reports are Stuart Little not sure why Marge with think that's actually worth anything,
- 51:30but maybe she's just gonna get out. They find a power point where it
- 51:32says like micing Car's big threat or something I don't know, and an Lisa
- 51:37finds all of her old Meliboue Stacey dollheads that blame bart Blade on the dog
- 51:40and then she apologizes the dog, and I was like, ah, I
- 51:43feel I can relate to this. We've all done where we've blamed the dog
- 51:46for something or realized it wasn't their fault, and it's like, oh,
- 51:49well, they always forgive us. But there's that little point that it's like,
- 51:52fucking motherfucker, she's not sure I trust you as much as I used
- 51:55to. YEA, yeah, I'm not. I'm maybe not man's best friend
- 51:59anymore. I've only ever yelled at Jet really badly once, and I was
- 52:01when he jumped through our new Flywy screen door, right security door. We
- 52:07just paid like two and a half grand to have it installed, and no
- 52:09ship like the next day he jumped through it, like not through it,
- 52:12but like he jumped into it trying to get out the front because he saw
- 52:15my dad arrive and he just burst it off the hinges. Basically, it
- 52:17was just like hanging there. I was fucking so angry, but then I
- 52:21looked like, I'm just like Paul Buker didn't see it. He didn't decide
- 52:23to jump through a door. When you're looking at the Flywy door, you
- 52:25can't see It's like you're looking outside it. It's not his fault. It's
- 52:29like youngest somebody were walking into a door, a glass door, and I
- 52:31felt so bad afterwards, But in the moment, I was just like so
- 52:34angry and he yelled at ten seconds, but I was just like, oh,
- 52:37yeah, bad. I was like so angry, and I'm like,
- 52:39why do I do that? They totally understandable. I mean, it's just
- 52:44because it costs so much money, and it's like we had just got It'd
- 52:46be like buying a brand new car and someone's walking up and keying it,
- 52:50you know what I mean? Yeah, well, uh, lose new dog.
- 52:53RAFFI the bigger pappy on puppy. It'll be sent outside to do it
- 53:00business when it's not doing it on the doing business on the on the floor,
- 53:06and I want to come back in, and I'll start and I'll start
- 53:07nibbling at the flyby to the point where there's now a bloody hole in it.
- 53:13And had to disconnect the whole doors in an aunt for like crim safe.
- 53:16It's like, fucking get that. He's always getting through that shit.
- 53:21Yeah, how is the how is the little dog going? He's still stinking
- 53:23up the house occasionally, Yes, good thing about having a stinky dog is
- 53:28that you can also fart and blame it on the dog now because enough he's
- 53:30done enough of them where it's just like, oh, he's done it again.
- 53:34You can blame it on he's doing silent but deadly as though. And
- 53:36I would, you know, I would be the whole woodwind section of the
- 53:38orchestra. Now you're just gonna do the forgetting Sarah Marshall thing. We just
- 53:40like opened your leags slightly and spread your cheeks and then the air just comes
- 53:44out and doesn't make a sound because it only makes a sound because your arch
- 53:45cheeks are together. So if he's slightly like calculate to the side, open
- 53:50up your ars cheeks just slightly, air just comes out, just like like
- 53:52it's like a defleating balloon. Damn, my man, you're trying to you
- 53:55you're trying to explain farting to me. You might you might want to check
- 54:01yourself. I've cut my legs more than you've had hot dinners. That cause
- 54:07it a fart. Mount Barton about got Barton Homer again driving twenty three saw
- 54:15the drive past Mount Rushmore twenty feet out of your way, so they decided
- 54:16to pass on it, and but sort of says to Homer, here,
- 54:20bull I pulled pranks. Was maybe pulling practs is anything I'm good at?
- 54:22And Homer sort of points out how struggling he is with his life, like
- 54:27he sort of realized, you know, he's he's going nowhere, he's stuck
- 54:29in a dead end job, blah blah blah. One snickers pie away from
- 54:31foot diabetes. And then they arrive at scobos a diner. Get the woman
- 54:36here, the waitress, she's there. I like that. Remember that woman
- 54:38from the episode where they were out on the run somewhere and she was like,
- 54:43you're you're so and so. I like that. Okay, you remember
- 54:45that waitress. It was the episode whether I think it was where they had
- 54:47the might have been the one where they had the reality show they escaped from
- 54:51the house or whatever, and Ziggy was in that sounds about right, something
- 54:53around about the rundom at that time. But anymore, But she she doesn't
- 54:55say, but I like that in this episode. But I'd like to point
- 55:00two things. First of all, snickers pie sounds just awesome. By the
- 55:02way, I'll try to Snickers butterscotch on the weekend Guess what it tastes like
- 55:07Snickers didn't really taste them too butterscotchy. But and as everyone knows, it's
- 55:10like new flavor variation. Oh, I'm definitely trying that. I'm gonna pay
- 55:15full price. Then you realize this tastes like a Snicker's. Yeah, I
- 55:21find a chocolate that's very rare that it tastes that much better. Like like
- 55:23with chocolate, they're pretty much they've peaked like chocolate. I can't really taste
- 55:28much better. I'm not sure adding new flavors is really going to change.
- 55:31It's a different sensation, but it's not a better one. Yeah, or
- 55:35you need to add a markedly different flavor to it, like Mars raspberry or
- 55:39something. Okay, then yes, but minor variation like Snickers butterscotch not really
- 55:45working. Nice trying though. But the thing was watching this on Disney Plus.
- 55:52I've got the subtitles, and when Homer gets very excited about a Snickers
- 55:55pie, the subtitle reads euphoric gurgling? Is that what it says? Euphoric
- 56:00gurgling? What's what's the one that they always used on Netflix? It's um
- 56:04when it's like background noise, something chatter. What do I say, oh,
- 56:07incoherent chatter or but it's something like that where it's just like you can't
- 56:12understand it. Chatter, instinct, indistinct chatter, indistinct chatter, indistinct chatter.
- 56:17I always thinking, I wondered if like a hearing impaired person always goes
- 56:21wonder where indistinct chatter sounds like? Like? What is? What is someone
- 56:24who's never heard chatter before? How would I know what indistinct chatter? Sounding
- 56:31very Jerry sein film, does it sound like what's indistinct? I know what
- 56:36regular chatter is, but indistinct. They're in the in Scobos and we've got
- 56:40the father here who's from and he's taken him to Oregon, his son to
- 56:44the Shakesmian Festival where who was going to be directing it was legendary theater director,
- 56:49Sir Peter Hall Correct And they're both very excited and they head off to
- 56:52their prayers and don't forget your menu for the scrap book, and Homer and
- 56:54Bart laugh at him here and they bond over, which was a nice moment.
- 56:57They're very different, but I'm all for the kind of thing like Nick
- 57:00and I we well magnets, but I also like taking menus from places like
- 57:04I've got a menu from Tom's Restaurant in New York and things like that.
- 57:07I just like looking back at menus from like twenty years ago and go,
- 57:09remember when we can get at but a chicken for ten dollars? Well,
- 57:15don't you put it on the guy hole, man, it'll happen. Do
- 57:21you also were allowed to take those menus? And or did you sort of
- 57:23smuggle usually at the at the desk when you usually gonna paper one, And
- 57:29I always asked, is it gonna take one? Like, yeah, sure,
- 57:30I take one, And I always take one. I always asked,
- 57:32obviously, But yeah, it's funny you look back at many even like two
- 57:36or three years ago, and I'm like, how the fuck has things gone
- 57:38up this much in like three years. I've got a fish and chip shop
- 57:43pamphlet from when I was a kid from Rose Avenue fish and Chip Shop in
- 57:45Norlin here and minimum chips. What do you Minimum chips was in nineteen ninety
- 57:50seven. I'm gonna say a buck fifty dollar fifty right on the money,
- 57:54minimum chips and that was enough. Oh yeah, that's a nice lunch.
- 58:00That was, like minimum chips would satisfied to people just want some chips on
- 58:02the side of your fish or whatever. Minimum chips You're fine. Can you
- 58:06imagine getting a dolt fifty by the chips? Now, they might get your
- 58:07half a chip chips so expensive? Now, well, yeah, I mean
- 58:13I've told you about the chicken shop down the street. That's like, yeah,
- 58:15dude, to the potatoes sortage, you're only getting sweet potato frats.
- 58:19I'm like, that's not what I want with my chicken, right, So
- 58:21no, get it. That's like, so we're like due to the letter
- 58:27sort shortage, maybe putting cabbage in your in your subway, I'm not I'm
- 58:30having a chow me in sand which I want to fucking stuffy fuck you will
- 58:37honestly rather nothing than cabbage in my fucking subway sandwich. I don't put anything
- 58:40in there. Don't put fucking cabbage in thereaty crazy or if you've got cabbage
- 58:46law. Yeah, anyway, enough about complaining. So the now marton Hover
- 58:52are bonding and they realized, you know, they've got more in common than
- 58:54they realized. And he brings up there you can it's legal to marry your
- 58:59son for a father to Mary Sun, Massachusetts, I'm like, what was
- 59:01the point of bringing that up? I don't really get it. Anyway,
- 59:04Bart goes to the toilet and Homer meanwhile order some big breakfast with baking it
- 59:07added to everything, and then once he finishes his food, he thinks Bart
- 59:13has snacked away. He was like, what's going on? He goes into
- 59:15the bathroom. Bart is hiding in there home it looks at the window,
- 59:17but then goes and tells Stavross that someone's trying to dine and dash, and
- 59:22he catches Homer and smacks him on the ass with his frying pan, and
- 59:25yeah, there you go, and seeing that that is the thing that happens.
- 59:30Yes, Bart has escaped in this episode, but has escaped. We're
- 59:32now at the at the yard sale and on the side there's no looky Lose
- 59:37and coming book guy gets a fucking awesome deal here, yet still complains it's
- 59:42all of Bart's action figures the mister plowjacket, which I guess in Springfield universe
- 59:46doesn't really mean anything. But you know, two of Simpsons fans, big
- 59:49deal and all these at a power ranger Andy's for three ninety five. I'm
- 59:52like, mate, you don't need five minutes of the fridge, get out
- 59:54of there. Take that right, you got, you got the bonus plane,
- 59:58you got the deal. They've only made five dollars one all comes from
- 1:00:00Flanders buying back his stuff, which is quite funny. And then they also
- 1:00:04made three ninety five from from comic book Guards. Then, yeah, that
- 1:00:07is true. That doesn't really add up. So does that make a dollar
- 1:00:08five from I don't know, that's not question. I don't. But then
- 1:00:12Flanders sings that Joseph and the Mason technicolor dreamcoat. It just goes on forever,
- 1:00:17my lp of dreamcoat, How I love my coat of many colors?
- 1:00:22It was red and yellow and green and brown and scarlet and black and ochre
- 1:00:29in peach and ruby, and I live in violet and lilac and gold and
- 1:00:37chocolate and move and cream and crimson and silver and rose and azure and lemon
- 1:00:42and rusted in gray and joel and purple and white and pink and orange and
- 1:00:50red and yellow and green and brown, scarlet and black and ochre and peach.
- 1:00:55The Salvation and might just sort of said, oh, how y'rselves a
- 1:00:59failure? Have you? Did you ever have a garage sale? They're not
- 1:01:00really a thing anymore. You just have Facebook Marketplace now. But we used
- 1:01:04to have garag showers probably twice a year, and it was an exciting time
- 1:01:07for me when I was a kid. It was like, what was a
- 1:01:08chance to sell some shit they don't need anymore and make a few actually dollars
- 1:01:10and whatever. That's true. Yeah, I mean it's you either put it
- 1:01:15on an eBay or Facebook marketplace or some other online imporium, or it's just
- 1:01:21like, no one's buying this. I'm just throwing a haf a hard rubbish.
- 1:01:22Yeah, And so it's like a free garage sale. We had a
- 1:01:27sign I put out a state recently. It's a garage sound. I was
- 1:01:30like, what a novelty I'm going? It was like a good stuff,
- 1:01:36it's a few mugs and like an old bike. This is why I got
- 1:01:38a garag sales anymore. So it's funny because I got down, I was
- 1:01:42like, oh is this all? And she's like, yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:44we sawd most of the good stuff on Facebook Marketplace. I'm like, what
- 1:01:46was the point of this thing? So well, you're playing me for a
- 1:01:49sucker, Yeah exactly, yeah, buying you shit, getting my pity,
- 1:01:52my pity money, but even the Salvation Nonaby doesn't want any of his stuff.
- 1:01:55And then Otto appears and he wants someone of the pain medication, and
- 1:02:00Marge takes advantage of his own generosity where he's like a dollar or she should
- 1:02:04just a dollar and he's like peel, She's like yes, and she's selling
- 1:02:07it all. And he said, like drugs in the bottle, I feel
- 1:02:08like Elvis Presley, and then we get a few. I like the music
- 1:02:12que here, it's this is what the music they always play when it's like
- 1:02:15it's getting to do the blue or a little illegal in Springfield, and we've
- 1:02:17got clidisag Kearney, doctor Nick Disco, Stu Snake, as well as Birch
- 1:02:22Barlow, the rushed lumber of our Springfield. Okay, that's a nice,
- 1:02:27nice callback. Whoa, This is so much safer than buying my illegal drugs
- 1:02:32at the playground, bagger Quist. Surprise me, mum, I'll take all
- 1:02:39your estrogen. That's a female replacement hormone. It's for a friend who's trapped
- 1:02:46in the body of another friend. It's a rather progressive transgag for two thousand
- 1:02:52and six, I think, I mean, yeah, it wasn't really sort
- 1:02:54of poking fun. It was kind of sensitive in its own way. How
- 1:02:59much calling Leny who's in Vegas obviously, and he's on a roller coaster with
- 1:03:02showgirls and an elephant, and he's just too satisfied in every way. And
- 1:03:06this is where he drives past and sees Bart hitchhiking marine home for Christmas,
- 1:03:08is what it says, and he signed, He's like, I've got you
- 1:03:10now, and then he goes it nearly drives off the edge of the cliff.
- 1:03:14And I liked what scares me the most service engine soon when I see
- 1:03:17the light coming of my car and I'm just like, I don't want to.
- 1:03:21It's gonna cost some money I have to pay for. This is ridiculous.
- 1:03:24I much prefer that though, too. You're overheating, Yes, that's
- 1:03:29true. Yeah, that is. That is the scariest of all dashboard indicators.
- 1:03:35We come back from commercial and home as sister, but pushed down in
- 1:03:37the back of the car so that the car tips up and I can come
- 1:03:38out and beating and shower you of love. So then he does so then
- 1:03:43he's just a back and forth of Oh I love you, I'm going to
- 1:03:46get you. Oh no, I won't know what. Yes, I'm going
- 1:03:47to kill you, and I'm just like, I just went on forever again.
- 1:03:51It did, And I like that idea in theory. I think that's
- 1:03:55not the possibility of a good gag, but it's very it's writing dependent.
- 1:04:00It's also very timing dependent. I mean, it sort of needs to get
- 1:04:03a little more friends as it goes along, and then the car needs to
- 1:04:05be going, you know, right right, and then as it gets more
- 1:04:10sort of frenzied. I don't know. I just think that there are a
- 1:04:14lot of missed opportunities in this episode, or you know, I don't want
- 1:04:17to I don't want to miss Nancy cruise. But it just felt like the
- 1:04:19direction was kind of basic. Yeah, well the material she was given wasn't
- 1:04:26that great either, though, to be honest, that's true. In that
- 1:04:29case, it's the director's part to roll to them living it up. Yeah,
- 1:04:31so you're right, Yeah, but I'm eventually sorry, you see,
- 1:04:33I'm Nancy. I don't mean as too much of a diss but I could
- 1:04:38have done a few things a little spicier. But eventually, obviously, says
- 1:04:42Homer, Marge is now counting her money. Jimbo arrives for the yard sale,
- 1:04:45and my march is like, I'm not a drug grocer, and she's
- 1:04:48another knock at the door. So much money I've made. Basically, it's
- 1:04:53like her admitting that she's been selling drugs for money. Wighams now there and
- 1:04:56he calls her Mark pedal and he takes her in And as as Lou says,
- 1:05:00here, you have to explain the joke, Chief, it's it's not
- 1:05:01only good, but all those moments on this show, on both of us,
- 1:05:08Homer has now got butt or chained up to the seat of the car.
- 1:05:11He explains it being a father, it's just another job, long hour's
- 1:05:13no pay. At the end, you got someone complaining that you've been all
- 1:05:16You've screwed me up, and I'm like, yeah, but I don't know.
- 1:05:19I hate I hate it when they have Homer. We all have moments
- 1:05:24where it's tiring and it's hard work being a parent. But I don't like
- 1:05:27it when you hear Homer say I hate being a parent, like it's no
- 1:05:30fun, there's no positive to being a parent, and nobody and he realizes
- 1:05:32that he misses bla blah blah blah. But it's just like I don't know.
- 1:05:35Also, you don't want to You definitely don't want to be saying that
- 1:05:38to your kid. Yeah, it just felt like a bit much um where
- 1:05:41they arrive at upward Bound, where they take the sas and turn it into
- 1:05:44cists. And the guy there, he's not not a real colonel or lieutenant
- 1:05:48or whatever, he's just in a boyscout aff. What hed do they say
- 1:05:51he did to the boy scout aff. He doled it up like bla blah
- 1:05:54blah something like that. Yeah, and then to kiss your childhood goodbye.
- 1:05:57And I was like, it's kind of sad now, like people do get
- 1:06:00to these kind of things, and I'm like, even the idea of kiss
- 1:06:01your childhood goodbye, I'm like it would be people who have experienced that,
- 1:06:04and this is such a such a sad concept to have to come to terms
- 1:06:08with. Well, here's the thing. I mean, this is around two
- 1:06:11thousand and six, and if my memory of this era is fuzzy at best,
- 1:06:16I'm wondering if this is sort of like the Paris Hilton era, because
- 1:06:20Paris Hilton was a very big deal in the two thousands, and she is
- 1:06:25recently back in the news because you know, grown up and a little wiser.
- 1:06:29And she's sort of saying that her parents sent her well to a place
- 1:06:31like this for and she was there for like maybe eighteen months or something like
- 1:06:36like a behavioral modification facility, and it was basically like a work camp.
- 1:06:43Then you say, oh, you know they use psychological manipulation on you,
- 1:06:47and you know there's a lot of sort of physical if not abuse and sort
- 1:06:50of punishment. And it was like, damn, Paris had a rough.
- 1:06:56She's never had a rough. Don't recon sect tape. I wasn't going to,
- 1:07:02but I'm glad you did. Thanks, And no, I'm not about
- 1:07:08to read litigate Parish because I don't have a lot of time for a bins
- 1:07:10like she had a rough raighteen months at least, and she was like,
- 1:07:12oh, and I had drum as a results, maybe you would do.
- 1:07:19I'm worry, mister Simpson. We're gonna take his sass and turn it into
- 1:07:23ciss. Thank you, colonel. I'm not a colonel. This is a
- 1:07:26boy scout uniform that I had dolled up. Come with me, son,
- 1:07:30now kiss your childhood goodbye. Hammer starts second guessing himself. He sees Bart
- 1:07:40sort of looking sad, and he's like, oh, maybe you've done the
- 1:07:42wrong thing, drives through Matt Groening's birthplace. He's off to Vegas, and
- 1:07:45we get his vision of what's going to happen in Vegas at the casino and
- 1:07:49just basically sees Bart everywhere. He realizes she's a very weird eat my shorts
- 1:07:54gag. Yeah, that was gonna be kind of like a chick anyway.
- 1:07:56But he realizes, here a minute, I miss Bart. I'm gonna go.
- 1:08:00I can get him. I'm gonna save him from this place that I
- 1:08:00just spent all this time taking him too. He takes the exit, but
- 1:08:04he takes he goes the wrong way. I don't know anyway. Basically,
- 1:08:08it's just the I'm going through this exit up but this looks cool from up
- 1:08:11above, and I'm like it doesn't really. It's just like yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:15man. But that's basically the National Lampoon's European vacation gag, which I've
- 1:08:21sort of formative time with a couple of buddies of mine one night in a
- 1:08:25bottle of Bacardi, and anytime you sort of got on the road and you
- 1:08:29had to you know, you're driving was not great you'd say Big Ben Parliament
- 1:08:32because they get taught on a round about it. They just keep going around
- 1:08:34and a round and around, like hey kids, big Ben Parliament. Well
- 1:08:39the Simpsons do that, Remember they go to UK. Oh yeah, that's
- 1:08:41right if they get the rondom out. Yeah. But now, but Homer
- 1:08:44gets back to to the camp, but is shopping wood very well. He's
- 1:08:46learned so much in the last three hours. He realizes that he doesn't need
- 1:08:49to do any pranks or anything like that. Let me over here, Homer
- 1:08:51saying, stupid horse, that's a deer crossing tells but to wash the blood
- 1:08:55off the dash, off the wind wind screen or whatever. He said.
- 1:08:57He's taken him to Vegas and the reasons like an absolutely kill joy. I'm
- 1:09:00wondering how I feel about that kind of yeah finale. I'm I never enjoy
- 1:09:05it when you know someone's in jazz, within reach of becoming a better person
- 1:09:10or changing their ways or something, and then they're sort of yanked back to
- 1:09:13their original factory settings. I mean, I know that The Simpsons has to
- 1:09:18sort of remain but a lovable Frankster and a joke like this would feel more
- 1:09:25at home in say South Park yeah, especially the whole stupid deer, stupid
- 1:09:30horse as the deck us. I'm like, yeah, that's a bit explicit.
- 1:09:33Yeah, wash the wash the blood off the windscreen already says it was
- 1:09:36like, I don't know, yeah, but you're right about the whole part
- 1:09:41turning into a better person, and Homer is the reason he's not going to
- 1:09:45Yeah, it's just see what they're going for and you have to get back
- 1:09:47to the status quo. But it's okay to sort of. I guess the
- 1:09:50show wouldn't work if but matures straightens up and flies right, I don't Yeah,
- 1:09:58anyway, Homer's credit card has also declined, so that's the end of
- 1:10:01that story. It's just like makes that that quick wrap up just kind of
- 1:10:05makes you feel like, what a waste of the whole episode. I think
- 1:10:09that everything we've been watching was set through all that, and that's how you
- 1:10:11wrap it up, that's right, Yeah, I mean you worked really hard
- 1:10:15to reach the finish line. If it actually even see him at the camp,
- 1:10:17it's just you know, I've been for three hours now, I feel
- 1:10:20like I feel like I'm a better person. And then home is like,
- 1:10:23no, you don't, let's go to Vegas, And I'm like, what
- 1:10:25was the whole point then? What it is havn't taken to Vegas and have
- 1:10:29some actual gags here? Yeah, I mean if the if the takeaway of
- 1:10:34this is, oh, Son, I love you as the rambunctious little prankster
- 1:10:39that you are. That's what makes bart bart No, you could do it
- 1:10:42a little better than this. You could reach that, you could reach that
- 1:10:45conclusion a little more effectively than this, maybe by cutting down on some of
- 1:10:48these gags that going forever. And what's annoying is but I haven't seen anything
- 1:10:51about Barton Homer in Las Vegas, because that's the Lisa arriving home. Here's
- 1:10:56a question. Lisa arrives home, she gets the phone message March say she
- 1:11:00needs ten thousand dollars bail to get out of prison. Right. Homer and
- 1:11:02bart the message. They had a fight with a really uncoled pit boss.
- 1:11:06They're both now in prison or Homer's in prison, doesn't know where bart is
- 1:11:10says say, hi, have you seen and we have Lisa say, oh,
- 1:11:13Maggie, and it was gonna be just us two one day. I'll
- 1:11:15look for work in the morning. I'm like, so Marge left Maggie home
- 1:11:17unattended. Oh yeah, stupid, interesting, ridiculous, bad ending, bad
- 1:11:27ending, horrific. Four fingered discount does not approve. I'm flabbergasted by the
- 1:11:30writing of it. We cannot sanction such Just how does a team of the
- 1:11:39best writers, apparently in the world of the Simpsons writing staff, the claimed
- 1:11:42Simpsons writing team, how does one of them not go, who's watching Maggie?
- 1:11:45And if they did, I hope the guy that didn't just go,
- 1:11:48oh, it doesn't matter, because it does fucking matter. That's the kind
- 1:11:51of thing that you would not gloss over in ninety Simpsons, Lisa arriving,
- 1:11:56Maggie's just sitting there unattended. It was sold out for a cheap gag.
- 1:12:00I'm not happy. And so yeah, Endings are maybe the most important of
- 1:12:08any creative endeavor, well, certainly in storytelling, you know. I mean,
- 1:12:12I think you'll forgive any number of faults if you stick the landing.
- 1:12:16And in this particular instance, the Simpsons was trying one of those triple somersault
- 1:12:23things on the on the high beams and then landed and just cracked its ankle
- 1:12:27in half and went and that's it. Be bad ending. So unhappy.
- 1:12:32We have had episodes in the past where they have you know, everyone always
- 1:12:35goes back to the dast Bus episode where it's like, oh, they were
- 1:12:38saved by let's see mo, right that whatever. Occasionally do that, that's
- 1:12:42fine. But when you have an episode that's filled with so much filler,
- 1:12:45but that episode's at least pumped full of gags, right that they've run out
- 1:12:49of time, it doesn't matter how they get saved, it's just they get
- 1:12:51saved. Right. This one here is just like a story that is missing
- 1:12:57a lot of shit, but because they filled up too much time with just
- 1:13:00useless stuff, and it gets to the end and it's like, oh,
- 1:13:01well, run out of time, doesn't matter what. At least with the
- 1:13:05with the Dusk Bus ending, you get a resolution as to sort of say,
- 1:13:09and this is how things get back to the status quoted rescued by this
- 1:13:12one here, it's like, Okay, Lisa now has to provide for Maggie
- 1:13:15because everyone's in prison, like what. It's never good when an ending raises
- 1:13:18more questions than answers. It works sometimes in sitcoms where like sign Felt,
- 1:13:24for example, something like that they end on a gag or the episode could
- 1:13:27have kept on going. But I don't know, It's just it's just the
- 1:13:30amount of filler. This one felt like it had so much more filler than
- 1:13:31any episode have seen to date. I reckon. This really felt like they
- 1:13:34just did not like Kevin Curran just no, God rest his soul, just
- 1:13:39didn't care. Yeah, when you've got that combination of extraneous stuff and stuff
- 1:13:45that feels like too much and stuff that feels like not enough in the same
- 1:13:47episode, yeah, you're you're in trouble. What do we learn, Palmer?
- 1:13:51What did you learn from this episode? Mister Davis? Um that the
- 1:13:58best kind of gurgling is euphoric, especially with a lot of our indistinct chatter
- 1:14:03happening in the distance. I learned that if collecting menus is lane, then
- 1:14:09I guess I'm just a big lane. From this knee forward, your name
- 1:14:14shall be It's time for the Guy Davis New Name. Championship Round eleven four,
- 1:14:17Season seventeen. He current leaderboard stands at this in first position Luke McKay
- 1:14:23on nine points, In second position we have Applebyond seven and in third position
- 1:14:27we have a Garrod harrow Hill on six points. Take it away, Miss
- 1:14:30Davis. What have we got right? Oh, one point goes to bart
- 1:14:34and Homeless. Bogus Journey place tugs at my heartstrings. One of my favorite
- 1:14:40films of all time, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. That would be one
- 1:14:42Fergus. Jeffs with the one point that puts him now on five points,
- 1:14:45while on Fergus, I puts him on seas points wid on Fergus, even
- 1:14:49better Fergus. Oh my god, you know what, you know what's better
- 1:14:53than five points? What's that? Six points? Yes? It is?
- 1:14:56Indeed. Two points goes to Fear and Don't Thing in Las Vegas. Fear
- 1:15:03and Oh another good one that goes through our man Justin Williams. That's the
- 1:15:06first time Justin's been on the leaderboard. Well done, Justin with the two
- 1:15:10pointer. Good stuff. It's a big, wide open race this time around
- 1:15:14in season seventeen. That's great. I like that. But three points goes
- 1:15:17to Blunder Road. Oh that's pretty clever. It's clever, Kyle, and
- 1:15:24that would be clever car. I'll do then with another three pointer, which
- 1:15:28moves Kyle right up now to also six points. Okay, so first and
- 1:15:31second still the same. Luke McKay still on nine points heat that would be
- 1:15:34still in seven. But we've got two nubies now added to the our third
- 1:15:38position now longer just outright De Rode Harry Hill. We have a three way
- 1:15:41tie with Garrode, Kyle Muldoon and Fergus Jeff's all on the six points and
- 1:15:46Nora Cooker and David Mottter just behind them on the five points. It's all
- 1:15:49very tired, very close here. I'm the guy Davids New End Championship for
- 1:15:53season seventeen. I'm liking it. We do enjoy a crowded field. It
- 1:15:56makes the race more interesting. M So if you want to be of the
- 1:16:00New Name Championship, you can still hit yourself first prize. It's gonna be
- 1:16:02a part of the New Name, part of the four figure to scamp Facebook
- 1:16:05group by being a supporter of ours on a Patreon deail Here game, mister
- 1:16:14Davis, it's time now for the mail bay for we're on the road to
- 1:16:15do. A first question comes from Andrew JP. Of course, Andrew says,
- 1:16:20what's your ultimate road trip? Where would you go and what route would
- 1:16:24you take? Wow, we've discussed your your root sixty six one already.
- 1:16:30That is true. Yeah, that is probably my my dream dream road trip.
- 1:16:36I don't know if Road sixty six include all the pch the Pacific Coast
- 1:16:41Highway, driving into Vegas at a dusk I think would be right up there
- 1:16:45as well. I'm not sure of the exact locations in Europe, but I'd
- 1:16:47love to do a bit of a European road trip. I don't know how
- 1:16:51to road a ride a motorcycle, and I don't think that's probably true late
- 1:16:55for me to learn. You should never say that it's never deal late for
- 1:16:57you to learn anything. I think a motorcycle road trip would be fun,
- 1:17:00especially around Australia. I just have to do something motorcycles or whatever I see.
- 1:17:03I'm just like, it's just too dangerous to me. I'm just like,
- 1:17:08I don't know the temptation to hoon on them. You know, you
- 1:17:10see people, there's so many drivers out there where The thing is, if
- 1:17:13you're really good at riding a motorbike, I feel like it's like you just
- 1:17:15see sometimes the drivers. I mean, there's plenty of motorcycle riders out there,
- 1:17:19but sometimes their confidences gets the better of them. I'm like, was
- 1:17:23there a need for you to even like do you have to be riding between
- 1:17:26those two cars at the front of the line at the bed, Like can
- 1:17:27you not just wait behind them? Like? Why are you being a menace
- 1:17:30on the road. I know, I know it's probably a ninety five percent
- 1:17:33chance you're not going to crash, but that five percent chance is just going
- 1:17:36to fuck it up for everybody else if you do. That is one correct
- 1:17:41I mean, but I like, I imagine that if I was on a
- 1:17:43motorcycle, I would probably write it like I was riding a scooter. M
- 1:17:46Well, as I'm Alliott and hollyo Big on that film by Pixar Luca at
- 1:17:50the moment they write vesper vespers in that. Oh, I love the idea.
- 1:17:55I mean, that's the thing. I would probably not get a motorcycle.
- 1:17:57I'll probably get a vesper, but a vesper is not something you're gonna
- 1:17:59go on road trip on. All right. And this one he comes from
- 1:18:00Harrison McClure. What's the best thing that you've ever purchased from a car boot
- 1:18:04slash yard sale? Well, I haven't been to a good one for a
- 1:18:08long time, but we used to do a lot when I was a kid.
- 1:18:10But for me, what I liked about when I was a kid was
- 1:18:12that it was a chance to score some action figures or things like that to
- 1:18:15sort of complete my collection that either my and sold out or my mother couldn't
- 1:18:19afford. I'm like, so, you know that this kid's either grown up
- 1:18:23and and the mom's just getting rid of his old toys or the kids trying
- 1:18:26to sell his toys to buy some new toys. Maybe I'll be able to
- 1:18:28finally get that black power rage that I've always wanted in my hands. You
- 1:18:30know, I think the only times that I've really been to garage sales,
- 1:18:35did I pronounce garage correct correctly or weirdly than garage sales? I say,
- 1:18:42I say garage sales. I think we've done this before. Him was like,
- 1:18:45yeah, is that you pronounce garatt? I mean, it's just you
- 1:18:47just got to naturally say the word. And then because if you're trying to
- 1:18:49say, it's like garage garage, but then we put it into a sentence.
- 1:18:53I went to a garage sale, garage sale, that's what I say,
- 1:18:55garage garage. Oh my god, you start thinking about that and you
- 1:18:59can just drive His can say, but when I've been to sales such as
- 1:19:02those. It's usually like I should get something, you know, or if
- 1:19:06it catches your o's like, oh, that'd be nice for the house as
- 1:19:09opposed to you know, like something cool like cool action figures or blue rays
- 1:19:15or whatever. It's like. But I do remember, like that's kind of
- 1:19:17a nice vah that might like look nice in my house and you know,
- 1:19:23make it look a little more sort of hospitable. So and I, yeah,
- 1:19:27I definitely picked up one of those for like a really small amount.
- 1:19:30It's probably cost you know, I probably paid double water was worth. It
- 1:19:32was like m and it's taken prior to place on my shelf. And I
- 1:19:35look at occasionally going you're maybe living like a bum in a lot of respects,
- 1:19:40Davis, but you certainly nailed the vats. Well, I'm looking at
- 1:19:44the wall here in the studio and all these trading cards that you see on
- 1:19:46the wall. Some of them come from my personal collection, but a lot
- 1:19:47of them were from I went to a garage sale one day and this person
- 1:19:51was obviously a trading or that there's some was their trading card collector. And
- 1:19:55there's just giant, two giant boxes of nineties trading cards. And I was
- 1:19:59like, I wonder how much they went for yes, And I was like,
- 1:20:01this is a long time ago, fifteen years ago. I was like,
- 1:20:03how much for these? And he was like, I know you do
- 1:20:05want how many do you want? I was like, I'll take them more,
- 1:20:08and he goes, I'll be taking more five bucks and I was like,
- 1:20:10Brendan, just pick up the box quietly and do not make an issue,
- 1:20:14and then I'll walk outside. Brendon, you're not listening. Just just
- 1:20:17taking the cards and put him in the car, pay them in the five
- 1:20:19dollars and get the hell out of here. Give him a little smile,
- 1:20:24not a big wide smile. Thank you. That was very nice doing this
- 1:20:28one. Don't dance on the way out. You know you want to,
- 1:20:30but don't do it. Don't ask us have five minutes with you with the
- 1:20:33guys. Fridge just tame five dollars because it was just like, oh my
- 1:20:41god, they're all here, Lion, King, Ninja, Turtles, Power
- 1:20:44Rangers. All right. But that Actually, we've got one more mail bag
- 1:20:48question coming through. Sorry, Simpsons Mailbag at gmail dot com. Remember,
- 1:20:51guys, you want to send us a question or a message Simpsons Mailbag at
- 1:20:55gmail dot com. We want to hear from each and every one of you,
- 1:20:57So if you're listening right now, you never got in contact with us.
- 1:21:00Simpson's mailbag at gmail dot com. This one comes from Scott Pearson,
- 1:21:03and Scott says, Greetings gents. I've only just discovered your podcast over the
- 1:21:06Christmas break and I've been binging my way through as I try to keep up
- 1:21:11with the latest episodes as well. Love what you're doing. You've really opened
- 1:21:13my eyes up to the later years of the Simpsons that I've tended to dismiss
- 1:21:15for a long time. It's amazing we are yes, It's amazing what a
- 1:21:20fresh perspective can do. Perspective can do. Anyway, I was just wondering,
- 1:21:24do you think you'd ever consider reviewing the new episodes as they're released.
- 1:21:27I know it's screw around with your chronological order of the podcast, but it's
- 1:21:30so hard to find any decent reviews on the newer episodes. Perhaps there's something
- 1:21:33you could do for your Patreon in the near future. I promised to join
- 1:21:36by the end of the year. Thanks again for all of the free infotainment,
- 1:21:40Scott. Well, thank you Scott for the first of all listening.
- 1:21:45Secondly, if you'll promise to be a patron. We're going to hold you
- 1:21:47to it. Thirdly, not a bad idea. What do you mean,
- 1:21:54Danna, you're the one behind the wheel sort of steering the foething a discount
- 1:21:57express. I'm merely a conductor going tickets. I don't know. I think
- 1:22:02we could do the occasional new episode. I mean, well, I think
- 1:22:05we've missed the boat now with season thirty four, season thirty five thesis coming
- 1:22:09out, I think if we're going to do that, it's going to be
- 1:22:11from the beginning of the season. Yeah, maybe we could do like the
- 1:22:15first episode of various seasons. Yeah, pick and choose. I don't think
- 1:22:17we'll do all of them because, like you said, it fuck with the
- 1:22:20chronological order. But I was still gonna be doing the show by season thirty
- 1:22:23five. Who knows. Maybe it's a chance to sort of get them in
- 1:22:25the bag whilst we can. But yeah, I would. I would like
- 1:22:29to review him, because he's right. I do struggle to find like really
- 1:22:31good reviews on the newer episode to get a casion. People sort of given
- 1:22:34their two cents on YouTube. Occasionally goes like five minutes or whatever, but
- 1:22:38probably in depth reviews. It would be nice, I know a man Ali
- 1:22:40Ja and Neil Simpson's index. He does do the occasion of new episode as
- 1:22:43well on his podcast. Yeah, it was something you would definitely consider.
- 1:22:46Maybe one season. Thirty five launchers, stay tuned, maybe patrons, even
- 1:22:50enough people subscribe to Patreon. Maybe we were gonna make it worth our time
- 1:22:53because we already probably out enough content for you guys. I want to keep
- 1:22:58churning out the content here we are. Indeed, so Matt, it's a
- 1:23:00it's a put it into the maybe pile for now. We'll see how we
- 1:23:02go. We'ld like too, but we'll see how we go. But that's
- 1:23:05been our review of where on the Road to do. Hope you guys enjoy
- 1:23:09it. Thank you for listening to the show, don't forget. Continue to

- 1:24:15a long way way off that for now, but I feel like we can
- 1:24:16make it happen eventually. Also, some very exciting news to be announced on
- 1:24:19the four figure DISCA network in the coming weeks. Mister Davis, it's pretty
- 1:24:23sad to say. It's a pretty big deal, don't you reckon? It
- 1:24:26is a big ass deal as a big deal what we're about to announce on
- 1:24:30four figure disc and I cannot wait to get that one and now so you
- 1:24:32can, guys can let's just see you hit more going Dando and somebody else
- 1:24:36in your ears on a weekly way. Since that's right, we're bringing it.
- 1:24:40We're bringing a third party into the into this party. I speaking of
- 1:24:47the the Mitch and Dando reviews are coming back on Patreon, so if you
- 1:24:51are a supporter of that and you want to listen to more of those that
- 1:24:54were returning, which has been busy with his little girl, as happens when
- 1:24:57you're a daddy. But we are back now in your ears. You're not
- 1:25:00talking about Ash, No, not at all. No, it's actually Lex's
- 1:25:04first birthday today as we record this, a happy birthday to Lex, So
- 1:25:08you're gonna be hearing all about Lex's first birthday, I'm sure on the next
- 1:25:11episode of Mission. Dando's season eleven reviews was exclusively on our patrin of course,
- 1:25:15tales of Futurama and maybe you guys and all that as well. But
- 1:25:17this has been a review. Like I said, I've wear on the road,
- 1:25:19the door the next one in this day. I'm excited to hear your
- 1:25:23thoughts on this one. It's a whole episode about Willie. Oh boy.
- 1:25:30I watched the last night and I was like, the whole episode is about
- 1:25:32Lisa trying to make Willie a gentleman. So he's not acting like really for
- 1:25:36the majority of the episode, he's acting like a distinguished English gentleman or Scottish
- 1:25:40gentleman. I'm like, maybe guy will enjoy this more because he's not being
- 1:25:43Willie. Who knows, we'll find out. I remain open to to liking
- 1:25:48it, but we'll just see how it plays out. But that's a story
- 1:25:51for next week exactly right, So stay tuned for My Fair Leddy coming in
- 1:25:56your ears in the next week or so. That's the next season seventeen review.
- 1:25:59Also The Fink with one Alliott J. O'Neill, as well as Hurricane
- 1:26:02Nettie from another popular Simpsons YouTuber, slash TikToker slash Twitter or whatever that word
- 1:26:10is. But plenty of exciting our Guy on Spreenfeld episodes coming in New Future
- 1:26:13as well. But this has been. Like I said, We're on the
- 1:26:15road to do where mister Davis and you. Final words for those incredible listeners
- 1:26:17out there, Oh, I just hope that this podcast left them satisfied in
- 1:26:24every way.
