Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of Saint Cajetan, August 7 in the year of our Lord 2026.
• 0:20
Of today's feast, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes the following. Saint Cajetan founded the first congregation of clerks regular who endeavor to imitate the apostolic manner of life. Trust in God, which the gospel recalls, was their great law.
• 0:40
They therefore refrained from begging alms and waited until the faithful brought them help of their own accord. This saint's zeal for others' salvation caused him to be called the Hunter of Souls. It was said that he was an angel at the altar and an apostle in the pulpit. He died at Naples on 08/07/1547. Commemorated today is Saint Donatis Bishop of Arezzo in Tuscany who was arrested under Julian the Apostate and was beheaded in the year of our Lord 03/1962.
• 1:30
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. The introit. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels.
• 1:48
The law of God rules in his heart. Allay thy impatience with the wicked. Envy not the lot of evildoers. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen.
• 2:14
Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels. The law of God rules in his heart. The Collect. Let us pray.
• 2:31
O God, who didst give to blessed Cajetan, thy confessor, the grace to imitate the apostolic way of life, grant us by his intercession and example ever to trust in thee and to desire only heavenly things. A commemoration of Saint Donatus. O God, the glory of thy priests, grant we beseech thee that we may experience the assistance of thy holy martyr and bishop, Donatus, whose festival we celebrate through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the wisdom of Sirach.
• 3:29
Blessed is the man who lives unreproved, who has no greed for gold and puts no trust in his store of riches. Show us such a man and we will be loud in his praise. Here is a life to wonder at. A man so tested and found perfect wins eternal honor. He kept clear of sin when sinful ways were easy, did no wrong when wrong lay in his power.
• 4:05
His treasure is safely preserved in the Lord's keeping and wherever faithful men are met his alms deeds will be remembered. The gradual. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. In the house of the Lord he shall grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon, to proclaim thy mercy in the morning and thy truth in the night. Alleluia, alleluia.
• 4:41
Blessed is he who endures under trials. When he has proved his worth, he shall win the crown of life. Hallelujah. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, A man cannot be the slave of two masters at once.
• 5:10
Either he will hate the one and love the other or he will devote himself to the one and despise the other. You must serve God or money. You cannot serve both. I say to you then, do not fret over your life, how to support it with food and drink, over your body, how to keep it clothed. Is not life itself a greater gift than food, the body than clothing?
• 5:43
Behold the birds of the air. They never sow nor reap nor gather grain into barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Have you not an excellence beyond theirs? Can any one of you, for all his anxiety, add a cubit's growth to his height? And why should you be anxious over clothing?
• 6:11
Behold the lilies of the field. They toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his majesty was not arrayed as one of these. But if God so clothed the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore be not anxious, saying, What shall we eat?
• 6:47
Or What shall we drink? Or Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For even the heathen seek these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you have need of them. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours without the asking. The offertory.
• 7:16
My truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. The secret. Grant we beseech Thee, O Almighty God, that our humble offerings may be both pleasing to Thee in honor of Thy Saints and may cleanse us alike in body and soul. A commemoration of Saint Donatus. Grant we beseech thee, O Lord, that through the intercession of Thy holy bishop and martyr, Donatus, whom we venerate with the offerings dedicated to the praise of Thy name, the fruit of tender devotion may increase in us, through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
• 8:20
Amen. The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe, The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory.
• 9:19
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Blessed is the servant who is found on the watch when the Lord comes.
• 9:39
Amen, I say to you. He shall place him over all his goods. The post communion. Let us pray. We beseech thee, O Almighty God, that we who have partaken of heavenly nourishment may, by the intercession of blessed Cajetan, thy confessor, be fortified by it against all adverse influences.
• 10:12
A commemoration of Saint Donatis, Almighty and merciful God, who does make us both the partakers and the ministers of thy sacraments, grant we beseech thee that by the intercession of blessed Donatus, thy martyr and bishop, we may profit both by our fellowship with him in faith and by our worthy service through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Saint Cajetan, pray for us.
