- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, wrapping up today, Virginia Tech loses. At least
- 0:04Speaker 1: Tom's Friday night had some good in it, I guess.
- 0:07Speaker 1: But Virginia Tech drops a close game to Pitt in
- 0:10Speaker 1: a game that, man, they fought back and had a
- 0:15Speaker 1: nice drive at the end. And their offense, I'll tell you,
- 0:18Speaker 1: there were times that Gronk dropped some dimes in this
- 0:20Speaker 1: game that I was just like, okay, otherworldly. And then
- 0:24Speaker 1: there were times, I mean, then there were times, really
- 0:25Speaker 1: the whole game, their defense just is not good enough.
- 0:28Speaker 1: You've got a backup quarterback and you know that they
- 0:30Speaker 1: cannot throw the ball or would not be willing to
- 0:32Speaker 1: throw the ball, but you didn't even put them in
- 0:34Speaker 1: a position to have to rely on the backup quarterback.
- 0:36Speaker 1: They just, they just ran the ball down your throat.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And if, you know, I don't, I didn't, I don't
- 0:41Speaker 1: have a dog in the, in the fight, but you're
- 0:43Speaker 1: watching it saying, okay, well, here's the very clear path
- 0:45Speaker 1: to victory. Let's keep the Franklin hype train rolling. Pitt
- 0:48Speaker 1: just lost their quarterback very clearly for the year. Obviously
- 0:50Speaker 1: that didn't come out until later, but yeah, this, this
- 0:52Speaker 1: is yours to go win boys. And they couldn't do it.
- 0:55Speaker 1: This is presented by prize picks. Tom was the Virginia
- 0:58Speaker 1: tech loss. And I'm not just trying to like double
- 1:02Speaker 1: down dunk on, on Franklin. We've got really good Virginia
- 1:05Speaker 1: tech folks that watch this. And I'm not trying to
- 1:07Speaker 1: be just a massive jerk on this, but were there
- 1:09Speaker 1: things about that that were reminiscent to Penn state? Was
- 1:12Speaker 1: this fluky to you Friday night in conference? Like, Where
- 1:15Speaker 1: do you land on this loss? Pitt's a good team, too. Like,
- 1:18Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. They may not finish with as
- 1:19Speaker 1: many wins because of the QB.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Pitt is good. But just thoughts around this.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I think they're two really evenly matched teams, first of all.
- 1:26Speaker 3: That's why we talked about this so much going into
- 1:28Speaker 3: this game. And credit to Pitt. They got themselves to
- 1:30Speaker 3: the Mizzou Memorial No. 25 spot in the AP Bowl.
- 1:34Speaker 3: So congratulations to them. No, it didn't remind me of
- 1:38Speaker 3: Penn State under Franklin of the past in that they
- 1:40Speaker 3: weren't playing conservative, in my opinion, in the second half.
- 1:44Speaker 3: You could see Virginia Tech still making attempts to move
- 1:48Speaker 3: the football to be aggressive, to put points on the board.
- 1:51Speaker 3: They just kept shooting themselves in the foot. It was fluky,
- 1:54Speaker 3: to your point, about the defense. I completely agree. I
- 1:57Speaker 3: think that was something that we kind of expected about
- 2:00Speaker 3: this defense coming into this season. It was like, hey,
- 2:02Speaker 3: there are going to be teams that are going to
- 2:03Speaker 3: be able to take advantage of them and score some points.
- 2:07Speaker 3: You're going to need to be able to stop the
- 2:08Speaker 3: run better than that going through the rest of the season.
- 2:11Speaker 3: This offense for Virginia Tech has a lot of ability.
- 2:14Speaker 3: They have guys who can make plays. They can run
- 2:16Speaker 3: the football. And Gronkemeyer, when he's on, is one of
- 2:20Speaker 3: the best quarterbacks in the ACC, if not the country.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So this felt more fluky to me, and especially like
- 2:26Speaker 3: the field goal at the end, obviously super fluky. And
- 2:29Speaker 3: James Franklin was upset about the officiating. But if you're
- 2:33Speaker 3: upset about officiating on the last second play in a
- 2:36Speaker 3: field goal like that, like, there's so many other elements
- 2:39Speaker 3: within the game that you need to be focusing on.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Those are, that is a fluky type of loss. I
- 2:45Speaker 3: didn't come away from this game thinking a ton about pit.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Like I get that they won the game and that's
- 2:50Speaker 3: why they're ranked and they're undefeated at this point in time,
- 2:53Speaker 3: but it didn't look good for pit for most of
- 2:56Speaker 3: the game. Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Like it looked like a pattern. That's what it looks like.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Virginia tech, I would argue gave away the game and
- 3:04Speaker 3: then pitch just had so many opportunities given to them
- 3:07Speaker 3: offensively that they took advantage of it. And credit to them,
- 3:09Speaker 3: they ran the football, played well with a backup quarterback,
- 3:12Speaker 3: enough to help you win. And defensively, you got enough stops.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And Narduzzi consistently does a pretty good job against quarterbacks
- 3:20Speaker 3: with his defense. So he did a nice job there.
- 3:23Speaker 3: But all this is to say, like, for me watching
- 3:25Speaker 3: the ACC, we still are no closer to an answer
- 3:30Speaker 3: as to who is going to challenge Miami in the
- 3:32Speaker 3: ACC title game. Maybe it's clearly Duke. And I'm just,
- 3:35Speaker 3: you know, trying to look at other factors. But I'm like,
- 3:39Speaker 3: I think it's Duke or Wake.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Kind of. I mean, let's be real. I don't mean
- 3:45Speaker 4: to be disrespectful to the Virginia Tech folks. I really don't.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Because you did look better. I think for the majority
- 3:51Speaker 4: of the game, there were so many things that I
- 3:52Speaker 4: came away with looking more impressed with at Virginia Tech
- 3:56Speaker 4: than Pitt. With that being said, when you blow a
- 4:01Speaker 4: 10-point lead, And the starting quarterback that I believe is
- 4:04Speaker 4: better than your starting quarterback gets out with a torn
- 4:06Speaker 4: ACL on the opening drive of the second half. And
- 4:09Speaker 4: the back of quarterback comes on in. And you get
- 4:12Speaker 4: a safety to get momentum back on your side. And
- 4:14Speaker 4: you still find a way to lose because if you
- 4:16Speaker 4: have four turnovers and all you need is a game-winning
- 4:19Speaker 4: field goal to go ahead and lock this one up,
- 4:22Speaker 4: I don't feel bad for you. I don't. And I
- 4:25Speaker 4: understand that we can talk about was the kick in,
- 4:27Speaker 4: wasn't it in? Honestly, what's your thoughts? Do you guys
- 4:30Speaker 4: think it was in? Cause the way that I saw it,
- 4:32Speaker 4: I didn't see it go in or if it was low.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:35Speaker 4: The people are arguing that it cleared the very top
- 4:38Speaker 4: of it. You know, the joke, like in the movie, uh, uh,
- 4:41Speaker 4: major league, major league was too high, too high. That's
- 4:45Speaker 4: if it was lower, I think that we'd have a
- 4:47Speaker 4: better gauge on if it did go through or not,
- 4:49Speaker 4: but it went too high up to be able to
- 4:51Speaker 4: get any of that, to get any of an understanding
- 4:53Speaker 4: of it to where I'm sitting here and saying, Well,
- 4:56Speaker 4: even in a rain-soaked environment with all the things that
- 5:00Speaker 4: you had go your way early on and the turnovers,
- 5:03Speaker 4: and you need a game-winning field goal to come back
- 5:05Speaker 4: in because safety rejuvenated life into you, it's hard for
- 5:09Speaker 4: me to say that you guys got sniped out of
- 5:11Speaker 4: something because of a bad officiating call.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I didn't think it was in. I thought it was in.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I didn't think it was in personally.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Here's what I would say. I thought it was in live.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I think they should be able to, I don't know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: some kind of technology that could see this more or
- 5:26Speaker 1: just present it to the audience more clearly. Because for
- 5:29Speaker 1: the next hour on social media, all I saw was
- 5:32Speaker 1: that the kick went in and it was a controversy
- 5:35Speaker 1: and conspiracy and you should be able to challenge it.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And then the next morning I saw a clip from
- 5:39Speaker 1: the other end zone and you could pretty clear, it
- 5:42Speaker 1: was kind of an angled clip from the other end zone.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And you could very clearly, I thought very clearly at
- 5:46Speaker 1: that point, see, it wasn't there with all the technology
- 5:48Speaker 1: that we've got in soccer to where we can literally
- 5:50Speaker 1: tell when a ball hits a guy's, you know, the
- 5:53Speaker 1: hair on his head, not even, he gets to his
- 5:55Speaker 1: head and we've got the offsides technology and everything else.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Like, I don't know.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Jimbo was arguing for lasers back in 2011 because of
- 6:03Speaker 1: Virginia kick against Virginia missed. And he said, If there
- 6:06Speaker 1: were lasers that just shot up, you could easily see
- 6:08Speaker 1: if it was one side or the other when it
- 6:09Speaker 1: is above the upright. Or, I don't know, extend the
- 6:12Speaker 1: uprights a little longer than they've ever been before. So,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you know, take them up 10 more feet. No kicks
- 6:17Speaker 1: ever gone. 10 feet over, you know what I'm saying? Like,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't know, do something so that you could very
- 6:21Speaker 1: clearly see if it's passing ahead of or behind. But I,
- 6:26Speaker 1: I don't know that that would, that's my biggest thing
- 6:28Speaker 1: is I think the kick was missed. I feel pretty confident.
- 6:31Speaker 1: The guy that had the best view of it right
- 6:32Speaker 1: under was pretty clear that it was missed. The Virginia
- 6:35Speaker 1: staffers that were right there behind him also like shrugged
- 6:37Speaker 1: their shoulders afterwards. I thought that was a pretty big tell.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So I didn't have a big problem with that. I
- 6:42Speaker 1: just would like for it to not be, um, Like
- 6:46Speaker 1: that's not the, that shouldn't have been the conversation for
- 6:47Speaker 1: the next hour after the game was whether or not
- 6:49Speaker 1: the kid was good. Like we should have a definitive
- 6:51Speaker 1: answer on that quickly. And in today's, in today's like
- 6:55Speaker 1: technology and AI and everything else that goes on, you know,
- 6:58Speaker 1: Claude will literally build you a website, NCAA, tell Claude
- 7:01Speaker 1: to build technology for this. And they'll probably have it
- 7:03Speaker 1: installed before Thursday nights, football games. So, but yeah, the
- 7:06Speaker 1: kid was good. A missed opportunity by Virginia tech. I
- 7:09Speaker 1: really wish Franklin would have not settled for, They were
- 7:11Speaker 1: moving the ball. Well, you had it on the hash.
- 7:14Speaker 1: The kicker wanted, you had it from a reasonable distance.
- 7:16Speaker 1: He's a good kicker, but trusting college kickers in 2026,
- 7:19Speaker 1: what are we doing here? I thought the call, I
- 7:21Speaker 1: thought the fourth downtime out was good. A lot of
- 7:23Speaker 1: my friends were saying, Hey man, what are you doing?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Call him out here. You're going to give him 40
- 7:26Speaker 1: more seconds. If you don't convert, look, they got the
- 7:28Speaker 1: right play. They converted it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: They were good.
- 7:29Speaker 1: They were driving on the field. I wonder if he
- 7:32Speaker 1: had it all to do over again. Let me always say, Oh,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I trust my kids, but don't trust college kickers in 2026.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Like don't do this. We know how games end, man.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Kickers don't make kicks. Like they just not in that moment.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Yep.
- 7:46Speaker 3: The lesson to always take away from a game that
- 7:49Speaker 3: ends in this fashion, when it's the last second play,
- 7:52Speaker 3: something controversial is that there's a boatload of other plays
- 7:55Speaker 3: that happen within the game that really determined this thing.
- 7:59Speaker 3: This was tip of the iceberg flat out. You can't
- 8:02Speaker 3: turn the ball over that much at home in weather,
- 8:06Speaker 3: and expect to win.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip from the power
- 8:10Speaker 1: to our live show on college football addiction. But first
- 8:13Speaker 1: I want to tell you about the prize picks app.
- 8:14Speaker 1: We appreciate prize picks for their support. You can play
- 8:17Speaker 1: $ 5 there with the code HMA and all new users
- 8:20Speaker 1: who win their first $ 5 lineup, get $ 150 in lineups instantly.
- 8:25Speaker 1: If they use that code again, HMA, give me the
- 8:28Speaker 1: more on Bajon Robinson's touchdowns is set at 0.5 cold.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Tom and I I'll pick this, which you should go
- 8:34Speaker 1: do as well. Give me the more on Tyler Shuck's
- 8:37Speaker 1: passing yards, 254.5. We appreciate prize picks for their support.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Now back to the clip of the Power 2.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Nope. For Pitt, I'll be real. Congratulations on getting the win.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Congratulations on doing it with Holden Greiner, who last season
- 8:54Speaker 4: at Texas State did nothing. Really has no experience to
- 8:57Speaker 4: simplify the offense as much as possible. And to let
- 8:59Speaker 4: him throw it and get that big touchdown there, To
- 9:02Speaker 4: Hicks downfield, that was really impressive. I have my sincere doubts,
- 9:05Speaker 4: I think, moving forward with you. I just do. Because
- 9:08Speaker 4: I really liked Mason Heichel. And it's a bummer that
- 9:10Speaker 4: you lose him for a torn ACL. But I do
- 9:13Speaker 4: think that there are some limitations to your offense right
- 9:15Speaker 4: now that you are not going to have because of
- 9:17Speaker 4: who is going to be leading the charge the rest
- 9:18Speaker 4: of the way. Pat Arnuzzi, I won't say that you
- 9:20Speaker 4: don't deserve to be ranked because you went into an
- 9:22Speaker 4: environment as an undefeated team and beat another undefeated team.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I can't promise that you're going to stay ranked much
- 9:30Speaker 4: longer because of I don't know if you're even going
- 9:32Speaker 4: to beat UNC next week. Yeah. It's the reality. Okay.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Hang the banner now.
- 9:40Speaker 3: No.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Yeah. ACC TJ, the man, the myth, the lovely, wonderful
- 9:46Speaker 4: individual who tells us where we are in society. You
- 9:50Speaker 4: have to make a pick today. Who is playing in
- 9:52Speaker 4: Charlotte against Miami? You can say Florida State. I don't
- 9:57Speaker 4: really care at this point. No.
- 9:58Speaker 2: God, I hope not.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I think there's a really good chance it's Clemson. Go
- 10:04Speaker 1: look at their ACC schedule.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I'm telling you, I thought they played fairly well, all
- 10:12Speaker 1: things considered. And I don't think they're losing another ACC game.
- 10:18Speaker 1: They play Charleston Southern next. They play against Duke. They
- 10:20Speaker 1: play that Virginia Tech team we just talked about. They
- 10:23Speaker 1: play Georgia Tech. They play Syracuse. I think they're winning
- 10:27Speaker 1: all of those, and I think there's a really good
- 10:30Speaker 1: chance they're going back to Charlotte.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I'll push back on the Duke game. I would love
- 10:37Speaker 3: to see Gio Lopez and Wake get another shot at Miami.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I hope it's, I'll tell you, if they can stay healthy,
- 10:44Speaker 1: I hope it's Wake Forest because I think they, now
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'll tell you this, Miami's going to be a two-score
- 10:48Speaker 1: favorite against whoever it is.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I don't think it really matters.
- 10:53Speaker 1: If I want to see Miami lose, I'm probably hoping
- 10:56Speaker 1: that SMU finds a way in there and Kevin Jennings
- 10:58Speaker 1: just has a go-off game. I don't think that Wake
- 11:02Speaker 1: can do enough defensively. That game was 31-7 at one point.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And Miami was really banged up. I don't think Clemson
- 11:09Speaker 1: can do enough. They certainly match up talent-wise the best
- 11:13Speaker 1: with Miami. Still, they had a chance. I'll tell you,
- 11:18Speaker 1: we didn't talk about that game, but if the ball
- 11:20Speaker 1: starts moving just a little bit earlier, and that's a fumble,
- 11:23Speaker 1: or if Mintz's fumble goes out of the other side
- 11:25Speaker 1: of the end zone, there's maybe a 10, 17-point swing.
- 11:28Speaker 1: But yeah, so if you're wanting Miami to lose, it's
- 11:32Speaker 1: probably SMU. schedule remaining. I think it's Clemson wake best team,
- 11:38Speaker 1: wake forest. Like that's how I'd answer that question. And
- 11:41Speaker 1: my gut says.
- 11:41Speaker 3: That Clemson Virginia tech still has a path for the record.
- 11:45Speaker 3: This is a fluky loss at home to a pit team.
- 11:48Speaker 3: That's going to be, but they're gonna have to be
- 11:49Speaker 3: Miami of the way. Yeah. But Virginia tech, I think
- 11:51Speaker 3: so as a chance.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Um, here's a fun one for you guys. Do you
- 11:55Speaker 4: know what is the last game of the year in
- 11:56Speaker 4: the ACC? That's not getting talked about enough.
- 11:59Speaker 3: UVA Vatek.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Nope. Duke and wake forest. Duke and Wake Forest is
- 12:06Speaker 4: the last game of the year.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Such a manageable drive in North Carolina.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Now, here's the fun thing. Here's the fun thing.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I've driven through both, yeah.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Here's the fun thing. Here's Duke's schedule the rest of
- 12:14Speaker 4: the way, because we're going to talk about Wake Forest,
- 12:16Speaker 4: which does have a manageable schedule. Georgia Tech, North Carolina,
- 12:20Speaker 4: at Virginia, home for Boston College, at NC State, Miami,
- 12:25Speaker 4: the Clemson game, Wake Forest. If they can go undefeated
- 12:29Speaker 4: up to that game against Miami... They just have to
- 12:34Speaker 4: beat Clemson. If they beat Clemson, the head-to-head would go
- 12:36Speaker 4: to them, and then the winner of the Wake Forest-Duke game,
- 12:39Speaker 4: I think, goes to the ACC title. And I'm kind
- 12:41Speaker 4: of hoping for it. Because let's be real. The winner
- 12:44Speaker 4: of that game may end up being the next head
- 12:47Speaker 4: coach at South.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Carolina, for all we know. I'm going Clemson. That's what
- 12:54Speaker 2: it is. If Clemson beats Duke, I think Clemson will
- 12:56Speaker 2: beat Duke, but we'll see.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Tom, who are you going with?
- 12:58Speaker 2: I think.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I'm going with Duke.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I'm going to go with Wake.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going with Duke.
- 13:04Speaker 2: We'll update this weekly.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Yeah, we're all going to be wrong.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I can't wait.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Watch as Florida State does the inevitable.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, could you imagine? Could you absolutely imagine?
- 13:16Speaker 2: You wouldn't live.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I mean, if you go to the ABC Championship, I'm
- 13:21Speaker 1: not going to be. I mean, I can live.
- 13:22Speaker 2: With that season.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Florida State, Miami?
- 13:24Speaker 2: That'd be awesome. Rematch? Not in South Florida?
- 13:27Speaker 4: It'd be a fun time.
- 13:29Speaker 2: I mean, I would go. I'd be there December 5th
- 13:31Speaker 2: or whatever day it is, so.
