- 0:00Speaker 1: Mister New York he's on the case the Mark Simone
- 0:03Speaker 1: Show on sevenor well, Michael Goodwin will be with us

- 0:25Speaker 1: great stuff there, and you can get her columns everything
- 0:28Speaker 1: at lizpeak dot com. Go and make sure you sign
- 0:31Speaker 1: up lizpeak dot com. Lizpeak, how you doing.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm terrific. Thanks for having me on Mark.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Great to have you. Spirit Airlines. I guess Pete Boodha, Jedge,
- 0:43Speaker 1: Elizabeth Warren, Merrick Garland and Joe Biden might have got
- 0:47Speaker 1: this one wrong. What do you think?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Well, we knew it at the time, didn't we.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I mean, you had a failing airline, hadn't been profitable
- 0:55Speaker 3: in some time. Jet Blue stepped in and it made
- 0:58Speaker 3: all the sense in the world. Combine these two fleets.
- 1:02Speaker 3: It was just a stupid ideological Lena Khan moment. Frankly,
- 1:07Speaker 3: where all big companies are bad and making them bigger
- 1:12Speaker 3: is worse. You know, Honestly, when ideology interferes with political
- 1:19Speaker 3: decision making and business decision making in particular, it always
- 1:24Speaker 3: turns out badly.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Marked always, and this is a perfect example.
- 1:28Speaker 3: You've got thousands of lots of jobs now which will
- 1:32Speaker 3: be lost. The consumer is not better off. The consumer
- 1:36Speaker 3: is worse off.
- 1:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:38Speaker 3: So they're trying to throw the blame on Donald Trump.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And certainly the Iran war has pushed up jet fuel prices,
- 1:45Speaker 3: has pinched all these airlines.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That is not the problem for Spirit Airways.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of the it's like the mom Downie approach.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Don't forget the science, forget the data, forget the metric.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Just whatever sound good, whatever feels good. It felt good
- 2:01Speaker 1: to block that merger.
- 2:02Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's scratching an itch that nobody but
- 2:08Speaker 3: the most dug in ideologues even new existed. But you're right,
- 2:14Speaker 3: except Mamdani, I would take issue with you. He doesn't
- 2:17Speaker 3: even research the data. He doesn't look at the studies
- 2:21Speaker 3: that show that rent control always leads to a degradation
- 2:25Speaker 3: of the rental stock, et cetera.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I mean, what offends me about Mandani. He's not even trying.
- 2:31Speaker 3: He's not even trying to learn what works and doesn't work.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And when you impose policies on eight million people the
- 2:40Speaker 3: city of New York without even doing your basic research,
- 2:44Speaker 3: without hearing from different points of view about why it
- 2:48Speaker 3: might not go well, I find that really an abdugation
- 2:52Speaker 3: of his responsibility. But I don't think he feels any responsibility.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I think he's so caught up in making TikTok videos
- 2:59Speaker 3: and getting clicks and being popular personally.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And you know, the.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Reality is, by the time this guy's out the door,
- 3:07Speaker 3: that's when all the bad impact from his policies will
- 3:11Speaker 3: show up, not now, so he can coast along pretending
- 3:17Speaker 3: that he has better ideas, even though every single one
- 3:20Speaker 3: of his ideas has been tried in other places, in
- 3:23Speaker 3: other countries, in other socialist regimes and shown to fail.
- 3:28Speaker 3: It does not move him because he won't there will
- 3:30Speaker 3: be no accountability.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah, well, that's what I mean. They don't follow the science.
- 3:34Speaker 1: You got scientific experiments, a million of them. I'll give
- 3:37Speaker 1: the same conclusion, they don't follow the science. But hey,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you're right, that's a good point. You know, same thing
- 3:41Speaker 1: with Buddha jeg Elizabeth Warren. They're bad decisions even after
- 3:45Speaker 1: they're gone. All of a sudden hit you like with
- 3:48Speaker 1: Spirit Airlines. Yeah, yeah, straight of horn Moose. The US Navy, No,
- 3:54Speaker 1: apparently they're clarifying they're not going to escort ships, but
- 3:57Speaker 1: they will be in the gulf if a ship one
- 4:00Speaker 1: to try to come through. A couple did apparently this
- 4:02Speaker 1: morning got fired warning shots fired at it. But what
- 4:05Speaker 1: do you think.
- 4:07Speaker 3: It is inconceivable to me that we cannot corral this
- 4:13Speaker 3: fleet of little boats, and admittedly when you're near the
- 4:17Speaker 3: coast of Iran also people being able to file fire
- 4:21Speaker 3: missiles easily at these ships. At some point I think
- 4:25Speaker 3: we have to take a more aggressive stance. I know
- 4:28Speaker 3: that's not popular because everybody wants this war to end.
- 4:32Speaker 3: No one likes the fact that gasoline prices are over
- 4:35Speaker 3: four dollars again. But if we're going to do this
- 4:38Speaker 3: to leave now, to back out with Iran holding a
- 4:43Speaker 3: path still to a nuclear weapon, holding in reserve all
- 4:47Speaker 3: their enriched uranium, and more importantly, being completely in denial
- 4:53Speaker 3: about the fact that they're going to have to give
- 4:55Speaker 3: those things up or their economy is going to be
- 4:58Speaker 3: ruined for a substantial period of time. I mean, this
- 5:00Speaker 3: is now beyond immediate repair. So these Mullas are making
- 5:05Speaker 3: decisions that are going to affect.
- 5:06Speaker 2: The people of Iran.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Admittedly they don't care about the people of Iran, but
- 5:12Speaker 3: nonetheless they are subjecting their country to what five years
- 5:18Speaker 3: a decade of sort of economic misery because they won't
- 5:22Speaker 3: give up a nuclear weapon, which nobody in the world
- 5:25Speaker 3: wants them to have, except maybe North Korea. I mean,
- 5:28Speaker 3: I honestly, what's the audience for the Mullas having a
- 5:33Speaker 3: nuclear weapon?
- 5:34Speaker 2: There is none.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I mean, it's really the most extraordinary act of defiance.
- 5:40Speaker 3: I think that we've seen sort of geopolitical history in
- 5:44Speaker 3: a long time, and I cannot imagine it will go well.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Continued blockage of the Strait of Hormuz. I don't see
- 5:52Speaker 3: that going well. And I hope that President Trump.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Responds Democrats in the media yelling and screaming it's a stale.
- 6:00Speaker 1: We're in a stalemate. It's not a bad stalemate though,
- 6:02Speaker 1: I mean, Iran is right now newter. There's no position
- 6:06Speaker 1: to do anything as far as financing terrorists or attacking anybody.
- 6:10Speaker 1: So what's the problem just keeping besides the oil prices,
- 6:13Speaker 1: what's the problem with the stalemate. Let's just keep this
- 6:15Speaker 1: for a while.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Well, except for oil prices and the fact that's not
- 6:19Speaker 3: just our country, the entire world is struggling to satisfy
- 6:23Speaker 3: their energy needs.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I do. I am kind of amazed that europe NATO allies.
- 6:29Speaker 3: In particular are not moved by the fact that they're
- 6:32Speaker 3: running out of jet fuel, that their energy costs are
- 6:36Speaker 3: against ballooning out of control to help the United States
- 6:41Speaker 3: in this particular mission. I mean, it is really a
- 6:45Speaker 3: sort of incredible situation where our media is totally on
- 6:50Speaker 3: the side of NATO, like, well, what did you expect?
- 6:53Speaker 2: This was Donald Trump's war?
- 6:55Speaker 3: Not really, I mean, Iran was a bad actor, threatening
- 6:58Speaker 3: the entire East, and by the way, now we know,
- 7:02Speaker 3: and we didn't know beforehand, that their stock of missiles
- 7:06Speaker 3: were not only much bigger than expected, but also much
- 7:10Speaker 3: more capable. And all those European capitals that are saying, well,
- 7:13Speaker 3: it's not our war, this is not our problem. They
- 7:17Speaker 3: are within reach of those missiles that Iran has been
- 7:21Speaker 3: able to manufacture. So it's sort of perplexing to me
- 7:27Speaker 3: that they feel they have no stake in the game.
- 7:29Speaker 3: They do have stake in the game, and they particularly
- 7:31Speaker 3: have steak because they have renounced fossil fuels tried to
- 7:35Speaker 3: go entirely green energy in countries like Germany and France
- 7:39Speaker 3: and the UK, and it has.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Not worked out well. And POI today it really isn't
- 7:44Speaker 2: working out well.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Hey here in New York, we've got the craziest mayor,
- 7:49Speaker 1: the craziest governor coming up with these schemes, this pieta
- 7:53Speaker 1: tear a tax. Although let's give Andrew Cuomo credit. He
- 7:56Speaker 1: was the first one to push this piet to tear attax.
- 7:59Speaker 1: What how crazy are they? Why would you chase your
- 8:02Speaker 1: biggest taxpayers out of the state.
- 8:05Speaker 3: It's just simply stupid. And you know, I guess they're
- 8:09Speaker 3: desperate for revenues. Mom, Donnie is desperate for revenues because
- 8:12Speaker 3: otherwise he will not be able to provide all the
- 8:15Speaker 3: great freebies that he talked about, free buses and free health,
- 8:19Speaker 3: free childcare, etc. And his young followers, many of them
- 8:24Speaker 3: first time voters, are going to be disaffected if he
- 8:27Speaker 3: doesn't come through with these promises.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And he knows that.
- 8:30Speaker 3: So if he has ambitions, and we know he does
- 8:34Speaker 3: beyond Gracie Mansion, he.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Is going to have to come up with some of
- 8:38Speaker 2: these things.
- 8:38Speaker 3: And the only way he can do it is by
- 8:40Speaker 3: soaking the people who have money in New York and
- 8:42Speaker 3: who already paid the great majority of the revenues.
- 8:47Speaker 2: That this city runs on.
- 8:49Speaker 3: But honestly, mark to dissuade people from coming to New
- 8:53Speaker 3: York having a pieto terre, which by the way, means
- 8:56Speaker 3: they're paying doorman, they're paying cleaning agents or whoever takes
- 9:01Speaker 3: care of these apartments. They're already contributing, and they pay
- 9:05Speaker 3: real estate taxes. Obviously they're already contributing to the city.
- 9:08Speaker 3: But when they do come, why do they come to
- 9:11Speaker 3: go to Broadway theaters, to go to restaurants. They are
- 9:14Speaker 3: essential to the machinery of New York's economy. So you know,
- 9:19Speaker 3: this again is ideology over practicality, chasing away the wealthy
- 9:24Speaker 3: of New York. We've already seen what that does. It
- 9:27Speaker 3: shrinks your tax base. It shrinks the ability of someone
- 9:31Speaker 3: like Mamdani to carry forward all these policies that he
- 9:34Speaker 3: wants to desperately implement. But guess what take money. So again,
- 9:40Speaker 3: when I say he didn't do his homework, he didn't
- 9:42Speaker 3: do any research into where that money's going to come from.
- 9:45Speaker 2: He didn't research how he.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Was going to be able to tax the rich but
- 9:49Speaker 3: also keep the rich in New York.
- 9:51Speaker 2: You can't do it.
- 9:52Speaker 3: So you know, they will continue to come up with
- 9:55Speaker 3: these programs. This is probably less immediately damaging than some
- 9:59Speaker 3: other but I was just in Palm Beach. I can
- 10:02Speaker 3: tell you everybody down there who has an apartment in
- 10:04Speaker 3: New York is saying, we got to get out.
- 10:06Speaker 2: It's just too much.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're right. He didn't do his research. You know,
- 10:10Speaker 1: when he got into office and I just found out
- 10:12Speaker 1: there's a ten billion dollar deficit. Eric Adams about a
- 10:15Speaker 1: year ago did a speech announcing that deficit. You think
- 10:18Speaker 1: he would have known that.
- 10:20Speaker 3: You know, Eric Adams for everybody, for everyone dumping on him,
- 10:23Speaker 3: and he made some big mistakes which we can talk about.
- 10:27Speaker 2: When he became mayor. He used to call Mike Bloomberg
- 10:30Speaker 2: every couple of weeks and say, what do I do
- 10:32Speaker 2: about this?
- 10:33Speaker 3: How can I He wanted information, he wanted guidance, and
- 10:37Speaker 3: he wanted to succeed for himself, certainly, but also for
- 10:41Speaker 3: the people of New York. You haven't seen Mom, Donnie
- 10:43Speaker 3: reach out to anybody who has ever done anything good
- 10:46Speaker 3: for New York.
- 10:47Speaker 2: So you know, he's.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Reaching out to people you know, with pies, to the
- 10:52Speaker 3: Muslim Brotherhood and Lena Khan, who he just you know,
- 10:56Speaker 3: can pinpoint one of the worst mistakes of the Bike
- 11:00Speaker 3: administration refusing to bail out or to allow a merger
- 11:04Speaker 3: that would bail out Spirit air Lines. These people don't
- 11:07Speaker 3: don't know what they're doing, and they're hurting the communities
- 11:12Speaker 3: where they're working.
- 11:13Speaker 2: But again, Eric Adams knew what he didn't know.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Mark, this guy doesn't know what he doesn't know, and
- 11:20Speaker 3: that's a very dangerous thing.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Well, liz Peak brilliant as always. Everybody should go to
