- 0:18Speaker 1: Good morning, Welcome to front porch. Friday's here on our
- 0:21Speaker 1: morning moments for Jesus. Devotion time that we have this
- 0:25Speaker 1: morning is we just get ready to relax. I pray
- 0:27Speaker 1: you if you drink coffee and you got time, just
- 0:29Speaker 1: grab yourself a good cup of coffee, getting your favorite place,
- 0:33Speaker 1: and just relax for just a few moments in the
- 0:35Speaker 1: presence of the Lord. If you do happen to be
- 0:37Speaker 1: driving this morning, safe travels to you. But this morning,
- 0:41Speaker 1: the Lord just invites us to slow down a little
- 0:44Speaker 1: bed and just enjoy the moments of our lives. We
- 0:47Speaker 1: hear on a Friday, we're getting ready to go into
- 0:49Speaker 1: the weekend. This morning. A letter came to me, I
- 0:54Speaker 1: don't know a few months ago, and it just it
- 0:57Speaker 1: kind of blessed my heart because it kind of referenced
- 0:59Speaker 1: a song that I'd written almost four years ago now,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and I just want to read that letter to you
- 1:05Speaker 1: this morning and then make a few comments on it
- 1:08Speaker 1: and then maybe play the song here at the end.
- 1:11Speaker 1: This one comes to me from a couple. It says,
- 1:15Speaker 1: we just wanted to write and tell you how much
- 1:18Speaker 1: we enjoy listening to This is the Life podcast where
- 1:21Speaker 1: Jeremiah and Janet from a little town here in Oklahoma,
- 1:26Speaker 1: and one of the songs you've shared that has really
- 1:29Speaker 1: become a favorite of ours is Make Memories. There's just
- 1:34Speaker 1: something about that song that makes you stop and think
- 1:38Speaker 1: about how quickly life moves for us. It speaks about
- 1:42Speaker 1: the choices we make with the time we've been given,
- 1:46Speaker 1: what we invest our lives in, who we spend our
- 1:49Speaker 1: time with, and whether we're actually making memories or just
- 1:53Speaker 1: staying busy. And the older we get, the more we
- 1:57Speaker 1: realize that some of the things we once were so
- 2:00Speaker 1: important really weren't. It's the moments with the people we
- 2:05Speaker 1: love that seemed to matter most when we look back.
- 2:10Speaker 1: We were wondering if you would share a little bit
- 2:12Speaker 1: about Make Memories. How did the song come about? Was
- 2:16Speaker 1: there a particular moment or experience that inspired you to
- 2:19Speaker 1: write it. We would especially love to hear what was
- 2:23Speaker 1: on your heart when you wrote the lyrics. Thank you
- 2:27Speaker 1: for sharing your songs and your thoughts with all of us,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and if you get the chance, we'd sure love to
- 2:32Speaker 1: hear Make Memories again. Blessings from Oklahoma, Jeremiah and Janet.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Will Make Memories really came from really a very simple
- 2:42Speaker 1: moment in life. You would think it would just be.
- 2:45Speaker 1: It wasn't born out of some kind of big event.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It was just an ordinary day, one of those ordinary moments,
- 2:53Speaker 1: But it quickly became extraordinary when you stopped long enough
- 2:57Speaker 1: to appreciate it. What happened was it was an autumn
- 3:01Speaker 1: day and I was sitting outside swinging with my grandchildren,
- 3:05Speaker 1: and at some point they both fell asleep in my lap,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and I remember sitting there and looking at them and
- 3:11Speaker 1: watching the sunlight pour through the oak trees that are
- 3:14Speaker 1: around our house, and I began to think about how
- 3:16Speaker 1: quickly life really moves. Children grow up, seasons change, people
- 3:22Speaker 1: get older, and moments that seem so ordinary today can
- 3:27Speaker 1: become some of the most precious memories if we just
- 3:31Speaker 1: slow down long enough to enjoy them. So as I
- 3:35Speaker 1: sat there, another thought came to me. There is no
- 3:38Speaker 1: amount of money they could ever buy this moment. I
- 3:43Speaker 1: think that was when the message behind the song kind
- 3:46Speaker 1: of really began to settle on my heart because in
- 3:50Speaker 1: so many ways, and you can testify that this will
- 3:52Speaker 1: be true maybe in your life. In so many ways,
- 3:54Speaker 1: we spend our lives making two things right, money and memories.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Now we need money, and we have bills to pay,
- 4:03Speaker 1: we have families to provide for, responsibilities to meet. Nothing
- 4:07Speaker 1: wrong with working hard and trying to build a better life,
- 4:11Speaker 1: but somewhere along the way we have to remember that
- 4:14Speaker 1: there will come a day when we can no longer
- 4:17Speaker 1: make money. And when that day comes, how many memories
- 4:21Speaker 1: will we have? That really stuck with me? And that
- 4:26Speaker 1: was the heart of really the essence of behind the lyrics,
- 4:30Speaker 1: make memories. So this song isn't simply about remembering the pasty.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It's about being intentional right where you are this morning
- 4:39Speaker 1: but the present. You have an opportunity right now to
- 4:43Speaker 1: make some memories, just this morning. And we spend so
- 4:46Speaker 1: much of our lives investing our time in things that
- 4:49Speaker 1: demand our attention. Work, responsibilities, schedules, possessions, all the things
- 4:55Speaker 1: that listen now that we convince ourselves have to be done.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Many of those things are necessary, but time is one
- 5:04Speaker 1: thing we are spending every day that we can never
- 5:08Speaker 1: earn back. Once you'll think about that for a minute.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Money can be replaced, possessions can be replaced, opportunities they
- 5:15Speaker 1: sometimes will come back around again, but you can never
- 5:19Speaker 1: go back and relive a moment once that moment has passed.
- 5:24Speaker 1: That afternoon on that porch swing, it reminded me that
- 5:27Speaker 1: some of the richest moments of our lives will never
- 5:30Speaker 1: show up in our bank account. Sometimes wealth looks like
- 5:33Speaker 1: two children to sleep at, grandchildren asleep in your lap.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Sometimes wealth looks like sunlight filtering through the trees, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: just enough wisdom to recognize what you have while you
- 5:45Speaker 1: still have it. I love the fact that my wife
- 5:49Speaker 1: was able to come out and take a picture of
- 5:51Speaker 1: that moment. And someday, someday those two precious children will
- 5:57Speaker 1: be grown, they will always have that picture and this
- 6:02Speaker 1: song to remind them of a very special memory for
- 6:07Speaker 1: all of us. So maybe the question behind make memories
- 6:11Speaker 1: is one worth asking ourselves every now and then, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: it's simply this, while I'm spending my life making money,
- 6:21Speaker 1: am I also taking time to make memories? Because eventually
- 6:25Speaker 1: the working years will end, the schedule will slow down,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and the things we work so hard to accumulate that'll
- 6:32Speaker 1: belong to somebody else all but the memories, those are
- 6:38Speaker 1: treasures that will live on. So today you be safe,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you be strong, you be blessed, and you go out
- 6:46Speaker 1: today to your very best to make memories.
- 7:00Speaker 2: The porch swing, swear it in the hush of day,
- 7:03Speaker 2: the one breeze danced as time slipped away. Two little
- 7:08Speaker 2: ones in my arms lay still dreaming soft dreams. It
- 7:12Speaker 2: seems so real. Slide pork through the old oak.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Trees like golden threads, so and moments in me, and.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I thought, this is well, this is peace, more than
- 7:25Speaker 2: what any dollar could bring.
- 7:28Speaker 4: We make two things in this life. We live money
- 7:33Speaker 4: and memories and the things it gives. One fades fast,
- 7:37Speaker 4: the other will shout long after we're past the hands
- 7:41Speaker 4: of time. I won't always learn, I won't always climb,
- 7:46Speaker 4: but I'll haul these moments and.
- 7:48Speaker 2: In my mind a while there's time and the heart
- 7:52Speaker 2: still seeks. You can make anything. It all make memory.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I've chased the cloud, God fun the race war tired
- 8:08Speaker 2: lines into my face. But no lectri kt Off could
- 8:13Speaker 2: bring such fame, Like childlike voices that call your name.
- 8:18Speaker 3: It's the crayona and on the.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Weather paint, the giggles that go through the morning pains
- 8:25Speaker 2: gets swinging slow with the grandchild's grim where you pray
- 8:30Speaker 2: the deal but never And we made.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Two things in this life. We live, money and memories
- 8:38Speaker 3: and the things it gets. One gets fent, the other
- 8:42Speaker 3: gets past. Like girlooms in the moments the last.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I won't always work, I won't always wrong, but I'll
- 8:51Speaker 2: live in their haunts long after I'm gone. It's a while,
- 8:54Speaker 2: there's breath and the Soren's free. If you can make anything,
- 9:00Speaker 2: it all, make memory.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Tell about Jesus who teach.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Them to pay watch the stars shining at the end
- 9:15Speaker 2: of the day, telling stories, need the butterfly sky, and
- 9:19Speaker 2: catch every question any young child's. Because we make two
- 9:26Speaker 2: things in this fleeting pace, money and memories, but only
- 9:31Speaker 2: one states one we one, we give, one we lose,
- 9:37Speaker 2: one will live. I won't always be here, but I
- 9:41Speaker 2: will be nearing the port swing song, the laughter they hear.
- 9:46Speaker 2: So while you can't old, close and belief. If you
- 9:50Speaker 2: make anything at all, make memories. The only in your name,
- 10:00Speaker 2: beat her birth, spend
- 10:10Speaker 1: H
