Transcript
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: I welcome to show others you're seeing votes.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: I am Pap 40 sport silenced rate at John by my friend, colleague.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: The bait partner, fellow terrible game picker, Jeanne Wojahowski.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Jeanne, we have reached the stage of lawyer's clocks and money that you know what has hit the fan in college football to steal from Warren Zeevon.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: We're one week in and all hell is breaking loose out there.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: We've got an extra second in the big house.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: We had Lane Kiffin and LSU on Expulsion Watch in the SEC until
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yesterday, uh, we've got the sport, carining toward a 2014 playoff, whether anybody wants it or not.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: Don't so there's a lot happening.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, like we, we are eventually in the show.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to apply a trust meter to a bunch of things.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Teams players, coaches, conferences, big games coming up.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: uh... we're going to attempt to salvage our snorkeling game picks not gonna talk about to huge SEC big ten showdowns but in the sport that uh... leads the least the universe inside shows we got a knowledge and address and again talk about a couple things that came down in a very newsy week off the field don't start again
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: LSU SEC, the kiff and missile crisis has been all but diffused.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: LSU's back down by filling its roster with non NFL players.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's big of you, LSU after being basically taken to the brink.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: by the SEC threatening to expel them from the league.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that was ever going to happen.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: They're still having a meeting today Thursday when we're taping this, but there's not going to be a vote for expulsion.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: There's still a lot of simmering discontent with LSU there, including a basketball situation where they have yet to to my knowledge back away from possibly playing a former NBA player
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Gina, the SEC, uh, expansion threat.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Was it hypocritical or well within their rights to threaten LA within an integer?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Possibly both?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: Probably both.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know, as you said, we're no longer a deft con one, so that's a good thing.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Think we're more like deft con three or four things have settled down.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: Apocracy, of course.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: But college athletics is a, it's a Petri dish of hypocrisy.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think it's limited to the SEC.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think all the conferences at one time or another have had their moments of hypocrisy.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: But do I think that the SEC was right to do what it did?
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think else you gave it a choice.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look at the alternative.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: If the SEC hadn't threatened the monster finds the half-season suspensions of Kiffin, this nuclear option of expulsion, where do you think we would be?
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: And if the SEC doesn't do that,
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: it basically gives up its right to govern itself and to impose on other programs.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I really think LSU pushed the SEC to do these things or to at least consider these things.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: With the SEC, press the ejector button on LSU.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it would have ever happened.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: But according to the reporting, it certainly seemed like they had the votes to make it happen.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: Whether or not they would have actually done it is another question.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the SEC was well within its rights to do this and speaking of hypocrisy, if you don't mind me saying this, I'm constantly amused.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: when politicians insert themselves into this situation, especially when the politicians in this case are the two U.S. senators from late for it, the state of Louisiana, and they are accusing the SEC of hypocrisy.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: if there is one body and if there are people who should not be accusing anybody of hypocrisy, it is members of this particular Congress.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I would counsel them to maybe think twice before they accuse others of hypocrisy.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you there.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and that bad is part of the issue here.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think, actually, is that the Louisiana politicians have a stirred the pot to an extent.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: The faith kept this thing.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: They've kept the outrage going, which is often good for business in politics.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: Not necessarily good for governing a conference.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, the governor himself, Jeff Landry is a major problem here.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: He has inserted himself.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Huey long all over again in that state in terms of being a kingmaker within LSU athletics.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's any doubt that
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: The dismissal of Scott Woodward is athletic director.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: The hiring of Heath Schroier from Miss McNeigh State, the elevation of Verge Osbury from longtime lieutenant at LSU to AD, the arrival of Wade Rouse as school president from McNeigh's, those were all engineered by Jeff Landry, who also wanted Will Wade to be the basketball coach.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: And Will Wade being the basketball coaches part of the problem.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want at least try to be a cohesive member of this league and play by the same rules?
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: Are you just truly looking for ways to antagonize and get around everything the way we do them?
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: It is like
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: I, there is hypocrisy to the end degree here with with the SEC's history, but the the notion is in general.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think most places are like, well, we'll follow the rules to we think somebody else didn't follow in the rules and then we'll do what we got to do at LSU's like now we're the leader and not following the rules.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: We don't wait for somebody else.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: We do it first.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a football coach who certainly loves to throw the paper airplanes at the substitute teacher too.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, I mean, yes, I didn't even mention Lane given and all the others, all the other people who have come aboard in the last 12 months at LSU.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I think just this general attitude of of.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: cloaking yourself in scoff-law status is not gone over well and is led us to this point.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: So no, I don't blame the SEC for going ahead and being hypocritical, but also being really fed up with this.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: All right, follow up question just for fun, Jane.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: But if the SEC had taken the nuclear option and booted LSU, which the meltdown and college sports media would have been incredible.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: Who would it take in the Tigers place in the league and where would I let you go?
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: This is such a fun question, isn't it?
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm not convinced it wasn't at least on the table.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: But if I had if I had a picker replacement, I think they would look at the ACC.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they'd look at three schools, including the one in your town, Louisville.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I would add Miami, but I think the favorite would be North Carolina.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I choose North Carolina for a number of reasons.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: One, it's a state where the SEC doesn't have a program in it.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: It borders three SEC states.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: It has a respectable TV market somewhere in the mid-20s, I believe, nationally.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: uh... absolute national following it's a well-respected academic institution so i think there are a lot of things going for north carolina there now of course we just saw that north carolina committed another violation and they're not gonna host recruits during their home opener this this Saturday but that's uh... a lesser issue at the moment but i think north carolina would be the most attractive and make the most sense to the SEC
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: No, I agree.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think North Carolina is it.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: The other choice to me would be Virginia.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: But the North Carolina brings a new state, as you said, fresh TV markets to encroach upon at the National Brand for sure, the ability to win national friendships and multiple sports.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Good point.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I think, yeah, they would be the choice there.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: Virginia, again, I think would be the backup.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think like Clemson for the state have done it themselves man, they they have made themselves less marketable by being less good and more hostile to their league and I'm pretty sure the commissioner of the SEC is like we got enough hostility here.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: We don't want to be bringing in somebody who may sue us.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: as both FSU and Clemson did.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: So Louisville, I don't think Kentucky would go along with that just as I think Florida would block Florida State and South Carolina would block Clemson.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I do remember a couple of years ago being at a gathering.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: This was really funny, listening to Louisville's athletic director talked to somebody who had had like five bourbons, a Louisville fan walk up there.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, think we can join the SEC, and he looks and just goes, no?
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's it, and the story, like, no.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's just put that out of mind.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, how do you think Florida would feel about Miami?
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't think they'd be happy.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they'd be happy about Miami.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: especially, I think there's, you know, as Miami's returned to relevance has included some rubbing and race in there too, in terms of NIL and various things there.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: So that would be an interesting dynamic because Miami is really pushing, I mean, not necessarily pushing to join the SEC, but they are pushing their brand from a university standpoint, really aggressively, and they want the athletics to follow.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: That would be, I'd be fascinating if Miami, like you'd love to be in the room if Miami gets to be a discussion point for an SEC membership.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's fun to knock around.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, it was a great bar napkin stuff.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: I wrote in the dash.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody has a realignment idea.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: You're welcome to share yours and the comments on the YouTube feed on this.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Don't necessarily email me.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: I probably won't read it, but by all means, tell us what you think we should do.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Where should LSU go?
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: All right, similarly, another, like,
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: been modified, but maybe not completely.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: The bail Mary outrage at Michigan responded, it may not be quite, you know, like front burner, but it has spawned some good jokes.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: The bat t-shirt, just take a Michigan have a Mulligan do over the fake sign outside a town that somebody posted said, welcome to Ann Arbor, set your clocks back one second.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: So there will be continued to be jokes on this one, but there is one part of this that I think does linger for pull voters the AP coaches pull top 25 and also maybe down the road college football playoff selection committee to consider.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: Should the game be viewed as a Western Michigan win and a Michigan loss?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: Perhaps more important from a Western Michigan standpoint in their bid to try to get the group of six birth in the playoffs.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: Michigan's going to have to do something drastic to suddenly be good enough to even be considered for the playoff.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: Western Michigan looks like they might be good enough for consideration for the G6 bid.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think this is fascinating.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: And we've seen some of it.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Michigan dropped out of the AP top 25, which I think they should have just based on performance regardless of winter loss.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: The people at in the Mac and at Western Michigan went from being very conciliatory about this game to asking like the NCAA to overturn the result because I think they realized, hey,
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: we need to go to bat for our team as a potential playoff team here.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: So great point.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, if I were on the selection committee, and it comes down and western Michigan is the Mac champion with say a.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, then one record and the one is Michigan, I'm absolutely considering them as possibly the best team in that group.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: We'd see what the competition would have to be, but I have a hard time penalizing Western Michigan for this if they are good enough otherwise, if they continue to play really well all season.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I want to be clear.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Michigan did anything wrong with clocked again.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: They got an extra play.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: They took
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: Fine.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the way we got to that point, of course, is a completely separate debate, but for every other second of that game.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: to your point, Western Michigan was at least the equal of Michigan or better than Michigan.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: So if I'm, I don't care about the voting, the AP voting or the coaching voting, you're right.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: They dropped out of the AP voting.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think they dropped a 24 in the coaches voting this week.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that doesn't really matter to me, but you make a great point about the selection committee and remember there are four former coaches on that selection committee and if you're a former coach and you know what it takes to win a game and you know that a clock.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: of a situation like that shouldn't determine it, that could influence some of those people in that committee.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's a really interesting dynamic.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Michigan might have won the game officially, but on officially,
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's a tie at the very least, and a Western Michigan win in the minds of many.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I can see a point as this season develops, and if it gets the G6 conversation gets interesting and Western Michigan has involved in that, that I think they're going to get a lot of credit for that game.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think in the minds of some of those people on the committee, they're going to get credit for a win.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: Boy, the talk about a room I would like to be in for those decisions, if it, again, if it comes to that, we'll see sometimes teams play over their head and then can't maintain an increasingly big game to circle in the G six or a September 26 Boise State at Western Michigan that could go a long way towards deciding things so keep an eye on that.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, trust me, it's going to be good.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: This is a Jean Walshowski invention.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: If it goes badly, blame him, send him.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's going to be good.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: Think you're going to like it.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: We got to discuss the suddenly wide open path to a 2014 playoff.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: This just in a way exhaust me, because it's been so incremental.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: But we were at NIMPAS last year between 16 or 24.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: So we did nothing and we stayed at 12 and 12.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think has been really good and fun.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: Tony Petito pushing the 24 Greg Sanky has been the holdout championing 16, but he recently expressed an openness to 24 if everyone agrees to play 10 to quote a quote qualifying events, so I can't they just column games I don't know, but what that means 10 power conference opponents and or Notre Dame.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: So what you end up doing with the group of six in that instance, I don't know, I fear for that situation, but that to me is Sanky saying, all right, if Indiana will stop playing nobody in the non-conference and Texas tech will stop playing nobody and everybody plays at least one power conference team beyond their nine in the league, then
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: He might be my vote for it.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: I view this as a catastrophic betrayal of the entire sport.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have a more measured take than I do?
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a more measured take, but I...
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that you and I are the last keepers of the 12 team flame, which is so sad.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand why we're doing this.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Greg Sanky, to me, has been the voice of reason on this and he wanted to go to 16.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: He thought that was the number that they could live with.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: and he has gone and record is saying, this needs to be done in an incremental basis.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: And they went from 4 to 12, which was a huge jump.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: But now they're going to go from 12 to 24.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to double the size.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: So that's not incremental.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: And Sanky has gone and record is saying that we need to protect the regular season.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: I simply don't understand even if you add
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: that that power for a conference game or the Notre Dame on your schedule, how that absolutely protects the integrity of the regular season, and then tell me this couldn't happen, Pat.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: We're at 24 teams and a team is fairly comfortable in the idea that it's going to make the play off.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: It knows it's going to make the play off.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: It can't really improve its standing as far as the brackets concerned.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: And we get to near the end of the season and they start sitting players.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: So to me that this we're going the NFL model and the NFL model isn't necessarily a better model.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: And so I love the regular season.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: I love its importance and I just don't understand why we're putting all the weight now on the postseason or more of the weight now on the postseason.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're disturbing that balance.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: I agree wholeheartedly, you know, I think that the the reasoning is flawed on so many areas of this.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: I do agree.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think that it is would do terrible damage to the best regular season of any sport.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: It would add clutter to a playoff.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like I watched the NFL playoffs.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: doesn't mean it's perfect by any means, it's too, you know, there's too many teams in that I think and now we're looking at it again doubling this thing overnight after two years it'll be three years this year of the 12 team and I which played to largely positive reviews and we're doing it of course to see if they can add TV revenue but also as commissioners have even come out and said and I don't even think to me they realize how ridiculous this sounds well.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's spending more money on their teams now, so we need to justify it by giving them playoff.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, just because you're spending more money, it doesn't mean you're entitled to something.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: This is participation trophy stuff for college football coaches who, what do they reach?
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: The standard is the standard.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: We pulled ourselves to high standards.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Well, but really if we're a live quest ball team and eight and four, but you'll let us into the playoff at 24 our season is better.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: All of a sudden, we're a better team.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: We had a better year.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, you didn't.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: You're still on the puff average team.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: So it disturbs me.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: I've been waging war against it for,
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: years, but now, yes, I think we're on the verge of losing.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: So strap up everybody, get ready for whatever is to come here.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to give up, though.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: You need Pat.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: We'll criticize.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: We'll fight by Gali.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: We might be, yeah, we're, we're at it on top of the worst clusters last stand here, but that's fine.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: We'll go down.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: All right, you know, trust meter, we're going to wrap it fire through like a dozen things and you're going to answer and then I'm going to tell you basically whether you're right or wrong.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that works out well for you.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: I get to be the last voice on every that's so much for me.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see we'll see how smart you sound here.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: All right, which do you put more trust in?
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Norville's future at Florida State are Bryce Underwood's future as Michigan starting quarterback.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see the video from the Michigan Presser reporter asked Underwood who was underwhelming by the well way in this last game.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: What he thought about Kyle Wittingham's comments regarding these are starter for now, but, you know, sort of nothing's guaranteed.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: You have to see that.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: I saw it.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: Underwoods.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know that.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's cool.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: Is that how you're supposed to react in that moment?
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's cool.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not cool.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: You just got called out.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I think his position is in real distress, but nobody's in more distress.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: the Mike Norvelle, and just, you know, look at the numbers.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: They gave up 585 total yards to SMU, converted only to a 15 third, third downs, completed only 12 passes, lost the game to a team that committed four turnovers, and you lost it at home.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think this is going to end well for Norvelle, and for what it's worth, and I've made it very clear I'm not a big schedule guy,
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: who have as you face, they face four ranked teams and then next five games and three of those games are on the road.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going with Norvel.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure, first of all, I don't know exactly what Michigan's options are behind under words.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you figure out a way to make it work there, but the Norvel situation is unworkable.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: I believe they're heading, they're speeding towards that.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: If you're at home and you are a plus four turnover margin ended up plus three because they turned it over on the last
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's bad.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's bad.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's just continues to show there's just no progress out of the crater that Florida State does is Doug for itself the last two years.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: Which do you trust more Michigan's offense bouncing back or Clemson bouncing back?
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're not going to like this answer, Pat.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: So you can already just say I'm wrong.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say Clemson.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: You're wrong, but my reasoning is this.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: Michigan has to play Oklahoma this week, that's going to be a tough ask to turn it around.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Clemson gets southern at home.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so just based on who they're playing, I just think Clemson has a better chance of at least building up a little bit of confidence and maybe trying to fix some of the things that they can fix.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, sure this week, but long term that's and we've talked about this earlier this year.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a broken program.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think Devo has lost the plot completely.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think that, and in his comments basically this week, he continues to sound stubborn, combative, defensive, more than saying, hey, yeah, we've got some major things to fix here.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: I just think there's not an acknowledgement of the level of crisis that he's got going on.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: In the words of Tennessee, Tex, Bobby Wilder?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: You're, how do you put it?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: You're an under the bus guy.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that is how he pointed the chat nougat coach made him mad beat him made him mad.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's the comments from Bobby.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: I like Bobby.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I've known him a little bit.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: He was at old Dominion Been around and he's at that stage of his career as like I'm just going to say what I want to say which we in the media enjoy
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you know what, look, it Clemson got body slammed.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's, it was gruesome beyond belief.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not pretending that Clemson doesn't have a thousand problems.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, by the way, I was a guy that said, you know, Clemson was going to win the ACC and, you know, remember, obviously, yes, I'm sure you do remember.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I'm going to take full responsibility as they like to say in the business for that prediction.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see, I'm with you.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see a way that Clemson's going to be a national force.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: This season, but I have to agree with, with dabble, at least on this point.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was one game.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was against maybe the best team in the country at one of the toughest places to play.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: I acknowledge they look beyond horrible, but I do want to see a little more than just the first game of season rather than just called a day right now.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: I understand I saw a 13 games from last year and they were terrible and I saw you might mention that.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: All right, who do you trust more the undefeated SEC 16 and O or the 17 and two big 10 they play three games against each other Saturday we're going to talk certainly about two of them Ohio State Texas and Oklahoma Michigan and then also kind of under the radar Mississippi State Minnesota game, but who do you trust more right now.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm going to correct your numbers I'm not 17 and two I think you could argue 16 and three.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, all right.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, at least for time.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: Michigan, the Michigan number.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the big 10 loss to UMass, Notre Dame, and again, depending on how you feel a lot of things Western Michigan, I got to go with the with the undefeated SCC, but this weekend's really interesting because of those those three matchups, not two of those games are one and a half point spreads the others five and a half point, so all under a touch down.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: So for right now, I go with the SCC.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: The big ten of the eight, you said big ten first.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, no, I'm going with the SEC.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, you're right, you're right, my bad.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm misinterpreted.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, all right.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for now I'll take the SEC.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have this conversation again next week because as I said, we've got some head to head matchups that are going to help us come to a more definitive conclusion there.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: All right, speaking of one of those games,
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you trust more arch-maning or Julian Sian?
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Sian is definitely worthy of Heisman Candidate of his Heisman Candidate to see.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is no, this is no rip on Sian.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's a hell of a quarterback.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you're going to find a more motivated quarterback to an arch manning of this Saturday and just based on what he did last year 17 of 30 for 170 one TD one ant Texas didn't score until the fourth quarter so I mean if motivation means anything and I think as that season went on last year we could see some improvement in manning so just by a little bit I'll say manning.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take saying is the is the more known commodity to this point.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Now good arch come out and light it up and you see it certainly didn't the opener, but the opener was basically intermerels as was say and's opener of course.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: I am of the belief that arch meaning could have a very good season, but I have to see it and I really have to see it Saturday against the team that really put the doubt into.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you trust more, Steve Sarkesian or Ryan Day?
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going by what they've accomplished, it has to be Ryan Day.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Day beat them last year, day has a national championship.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's a guy I gotta go with.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, agreed, same thing.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: And again, Sark is in the same, because it's Sark and Archmany are riding together.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: Great position.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like we are there, we've got this chance
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: uh... we've got a really we built a really good team now can we take the next step and the next step does start saturday said again a super high level high payload game can't wait to watch it but for now right day yes he has the skins on the wall he has a Texas skin and he certainly has a national championship skin uh... last one for that game first year oh i'll state offensive coordinator arthur smith
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: or first-year Texas defensive core in there will must-chap a very interesting match up there.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Smith obviously brings NFL concept to NFL schemes to Ohio State and that's certainly going to be a plus.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: Must champ had a cup of coffee in the NFL back in the early 2000s for what that is worth, but I think must champ understands the college game much better and his value isn't just based on schemes and and you know if we're going to blitz off the edge or whatever they're going to do his value is bringing a real toughness to Texas, so I give must champ again a slight edge.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, I'm with you there, I agree.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think I might have mentioned last week.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to Colton McCoy a couple of weeks ago, who was just a big, well-must champ believer and said, playing against most champs defenses and practice made him a much better quarterback in Texas for the first time around in Texas for most champs.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: And he thinks it'll do the same for our humanity.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: He said that the level of competition and intensity every day going against the most champ defense
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: what's you trust more LSU's dominance in its opener against Clemson or Miami's dominance and its opener against Stanford.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was baby seal time for both of those games.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll go with LSU.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what LSU did Clemson was almost inhumane.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: It was 499 yard difference.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's just unfathomable 30, 8 to 8 first downs.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that is an every play.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: Rub your nose in the grass beat down.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: So, am I mean, I thought look great, but Stanford is Stanford and what LSU did was dazzling.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: In my opinion.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you heard that recording, the locked room recording.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: From Kiffel.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so you knew what was coming.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we did get a little glimpse into, I think, the whole mindset of the program right now for them, which is the whole belief in world hates you.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: Go tell the whole world to believe themselves.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what coaches look for.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, they do.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: That, and here's the hilarious thing, too.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, we've done this forever, right?
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: And what do we get like on Wednesday on a teleconference or a press conference on a Monday or Tuesday?
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: We ask, you know, how high is the motivation for this game?
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody's like, oh, you know, motivation doesn't go that far.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, once we kick off, it's all skiing.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then you hear the locker room, and they just, that is exactly what they're doing.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: And screaming about how disrespectful they are.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: it, you know, it's just, it's funny the, the disconnect between what they try to tell us and what really happens.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: Um, all right, trust meter, who do you trust more speaking of Lane and LSU his current course, Sam Levitt, or his ex quarterback at all, Miss Trinidad Chamblas who pulled out a thriller of a game against Louisville?
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going with Chamblas.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing against Levitt, but I think the body of work for Chameless and what he has to do with that team is different than what Levitt has to do though.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really interested.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Levitt played really well.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Don't get me wrong.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: And it's going to be really interesting and fun to see Levitt develop.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: in that off and send her kiff and hey, look, we can say whatever we want about kiff and he's he's a polarizing figure and and compelling and in all the right and wrong ways, but the guy knows how to coach off and see knows how to coach quarterback.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: But right now, I go with Chambers.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yes, like I was good to see a Sam Levitt fully healthy.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure, because you ran like crazy.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_00]: God, is that for coming off Liz Frank surgery?
- 35:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so he thought very good.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, chameless.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: has got some clutch to him, man.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what he did in the playoff last year and other games, but then, you know, I was there Sunday night in Nashville and he wasn't very good in the first half and he'd threw that all on his shoulders and then the second half just lit up Louisville and made all the plays they needed to.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: And when Louisville scored a tie to the game with like a minute, 28 left, you just knew right then and there too much time to go to three more time.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna win.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: All right, who do trust more, Jane, are CJ Car Heisman prediction?
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: We were both on the car band wagon before the season, or a Malachi Tony switch in allegiance, or maybe even Jeremiah Smith, Tony just spectacular for the hurricanes.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: Jeremiah Smith, very good for the buck eyes and their openers, where are you going?
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not giving up on the CJ Car Pit.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: But if Smith has a big game against Texas, let's say, I can see him moving up.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: If Tony keeps on putting up these numbers early in the season, I can see him moving ahead.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: Notre Dame's, the muscle tone part of their schedule isn't until the second half of it.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I can see these guys, Tony and Smith, really doing well in the, in the Heisman race, but I think eventually,
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not getting off the car bandwagon either.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: I like him at, you know, he was fine against Wisconsin.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't great, but he was fine.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly didn't really do anything to hurt Notre Dame's cause.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: I was so dazzled by Tony and I know Stanford's secondary is not an NFL secondary by any stretch, but my gosh, his small space quickness, his footwork,
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: his route running is just he is so fun to watch.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd love watching him, love watching Jeremiah Smith too, but I'll stick with Carl for now.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: All right, first career start guys, Gene, who do you trust more?
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: Bam is Keylon Russell, Tennessee's phase on Brandon, or Louisville's Lincoln Keenholtz?
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Russell and Brandon acquitted themselves well.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they played well.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: But you were at that game.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was watching it.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Keynoltz, he got better by the second.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: And what I loved about how he responded was, you know, Brahman, he's a demanding coach.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: And you could see it on the sideline.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: Brahman was, was not happy at times.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: And he was in Keynoltz's face.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: And Keynoltz didn't, didn't get upset.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: didn't take it the wrong way.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't afraid to get coached hard and he responded.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so he led Louisville and rushing, his numbers were fantastic.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, I was so impressed with the way that he played but more than anything the way that he improved during the game.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, good.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: I agree completely.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: That was really impressive to me.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the concern coming in was he's maybe a little he thinks a little too hard gets a little too uptight nervous and a started off as I go that certainly looks like what what we got going on here.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: He couldn't manage the clock.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: What was
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: But then, hey, let me get hit a couple of times and go be a football player.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then let's go.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's running through people.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's making plays with his legs.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: He is finding receivers.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: And the once he settled in and the game was on the line, he made some plays.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I was super impressed by him.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was impressed by the other guys, too, but different level of competition for King Holtson than Russell or Brandon.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: All right, two more on the trust meter.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: New and improved UCLA with Coach Bob Chesney, ripped cow mostly just a fourth quarter, dominated the fourth quarter, or new and improved USC, which has a defense under Gary Patterson, the defense of coordinator.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're wearing a UCLA hat, so I don't like my chances on this one.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm taking USC, new and improved USC, only because I think from top to bottom, USC's roster is a little better and a little deeper.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's no rip on UCLA, but I think that's a difference for me.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't disagree with you.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I am wearing the UCLA hat and my, my stated goal for this season is to wear a different college hat for every episode.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see if I can keep that up.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think I can get through 15 weeks, but TPD if somebody wants to send me a couple of hats.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Alex, yes, you need to do the John Gruden thing.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay, he got sent stuff all the time.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: You need to do the swag begging.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I need merch send me girls.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: Merchant Marine Academy send it to me.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take it.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: No, I was I was very impressed with UCLA just showing some some toughness and some some clutchness to to pull that game away from Cal on the road in the fourth quarter.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_00]: I've watched USC a fair amount so far.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're really good.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've got.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely improve defense and their skill position talent is quite fun to watch at receiver.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: All right, last one, Jane, big one here.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: Steve Bellachek's career at North Carolina or Andrew Wims career at Accrim.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: You're asking who the hell is Andrew Wims and why are we talking about him?
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: Basically auctioned off the right to call the their first offensive series in their home opener, which is Saturday.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: And got a bunch of people to buy season tickets.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: You had to buy a season ticket to get into this drawing.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: Andrew Wims, who is a season ticket long time, season ticket holder.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that's good.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't just give it to somebody who came in off the street.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: But Clay works for a Cleveland-based real estate firm.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_00]: And he's the dude.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: He gets the play sheet.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: He gets the headset.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: And he calls the first series on Saturday.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: When the the zips have their home opener, who'd given what's going on with Steve Bellachick on per on leave at North Carolina, the son of Bill Bellachick defensive coordinator there.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you got more trust in?
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: You could have put anybody against Steve Bellachick in this one.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm taking the anybody.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm I'm going with
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: There is so much moving parts that aren't making sense that, yeah, whims and a heartbeat.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's bad at Carolina.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: It sounds bad.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: Let's wait and see what actually comes out, but reporting there indicating that the line of questioning in this internal investigation is pretty serious and not good for a lot of people in that
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: that program will we'll see if it if it turns out to be as bad as it looks.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: But for now, I enter whims.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you get a touchdown.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you lead the steps down the field to a touchdown.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then refuse to relinquish the headset or the playground.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: Stay on.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: No, I want I want to like a total overthrown.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: Why not?
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: One other thing we want to do, then we're going to get to our picks, our winners and stake dinners picks.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: Jean, you got a stat of the week I hear.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: What, what, what have you got for us?
- 43:25[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, I pitched this one just because I saw it and like I had to look at it like three different times to make sure it was right.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: Army beats Bryant 59 to three.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: It rushes for five hundred and sixty nine yards.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: Army runs the ball.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're great at five hundred and sixty nine yards.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, but here's a step.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: How many different players do you think carry the ball in that game for army.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: 12.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: 16.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: 16.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's like the team manager got a carry.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: But the crazy stat was a game took three hours and 23 minutes.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: You would think with 57 rushes, that game would take like, you know, an hour and change.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right?
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just 16 ball carriers, which just, you know, nuts to me.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: What do you got?
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: How did it take that long?
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't a lightning delay or anything in there?
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, maybe, you know what I should look to see how many times Bryant threw the ball.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they're throwing it on every, I have no idea.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: But that's also, that's done me, 323.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: Army's also mean and physical.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe there were a lot of injury time out there carrying Bryant players off.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I am, my stat goes to, this is Colorado, which one it's opener against Georgia Tech in very dramatic tough fashion, 14th, 13 in Atlanta.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe the two biggest heroes for Colorado,
- 45:06[SPEAKER_00]: had not played a scrimmage down at the FBS level in their lives until, wow.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Lamont, Lester, defense event transfer from Monmouth.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: He had three sacks.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: He was fantastic.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then the winning touchdowns scored by Charlie Williams, tight end, who had been at UNLV.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: for two years, then transferred to Colorado, and in his first three years of college had played two games on special teams.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: And that was it.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: His first actual offensive action of his college career ends up catching the winning TD pass.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: So whatever prime's putting together up there, I don't know how good it'll be, but pretty some pretty cool back stories on how they pulled off that win.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: That is cool.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not calling them transfers any more by the way, the free agents to make free agents.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's fine.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: It fits.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's completely accurate.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, they get to a couple of good free agent acquisitions for Colorado.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well, good stats.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_01]: Good back.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: All right, winners and steak dinners.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: I was afraid we would eventually get to this point.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of tried to put it off, but we have to actually.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: acknowledge the fact that our picks are terrible.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: You did better this last week, three and two, which is better than the offer the week before.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: Congratulations.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: I was one and four.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm consistently terrible for the season.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: You're three and six.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm two and seven for the love of God.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do better this week, please.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, I want to make sure this gets frozen in posterity.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm ahead of you right now.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: That has to be like a low point in your life.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's extremely low.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: It is very low.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: This is like I need a second put back on the clock, so I can throw a bomb and reverse this.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: This is like Michigan being down 12, 7 to Western Michigan.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's see how we do.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see how we do.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we talked a little bit about this game Ohio State Texas.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_00]: Buckeys are getting one and a half massive game in the national picture.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: What do you see in here?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: They said there could be as many, they said this could be the most watched.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: regular season college football game and history, something around 20 million viewers, which I guess it wouldn't surprise me if that happened.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Texas, of course, we've got a lot to prove.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: Manning has a lot to prove after last year's game.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's at Texas.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: Seems like there's a lot of good reasons to take the long horns.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I think Ohio State has something to prove too.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Ohio State still has plenty of talent on that team.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: And you said it yourself.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: Saying is maybe the more consistent, dependable quarterback.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'll take Ohio State on the road and I'll take that point in a half.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: See, this is the problem.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: This is what led me into disaster last week.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually like I started agreeing with you, which was a bad sign.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: And so then I just stubbornly picked Wisconsin to cover because you picked Notre Dame.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm already that worked out for you.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: Trap again.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't work out well.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, Wisconsin.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm taking Ohio State too, I just, I've seen the product, I know the product, I trust the product, but I'm also really excited to see the Texas skill talent against a very good Ohio State defense.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: All right, the other major SEC Big 10 game, this one in the big house, they're only getting 60 minutes, no extra second this time against Oklahoma.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: The sooner's went from two and a half point underdogs to five and a half point favorites.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's how bad Michigan looked in the eyes of the odds makers, where are you landing on this game?
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm taking OU, I believe in the tier over underwood.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: I believe in OU's defense, and I just think there's some turmoil there within that lock room and in that building right now.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: Now could it just be, you know, winning ham trying to press some buttons?
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: uh... but the reaction I saw from rice underwood when he was told about winning hands comments that that's all i needed to hear uh... so i i just don't believe in underwood right now doesn't mean that he won't improve and maybe what winning hands said will will make a huge difference but i'm but to use your logic i know what i'm getting out of all you and so i'll i'll take all you and give the points
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's any other alternative frankly.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I expect Michigan to do what prideful talented programs do, which is bounce back and play much better.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I also share your concerns about what exactly is the vibe what's going on, new coaching staff, what's the level of,
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: trust to use our trust meter and relationship between winning him and his coaches and Bryce Underwood.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if that's the response, the first of all, like if winning him feels the need to do that publicly, that tells me, like he feels like he's not gotten through to Underwood, and then Underwood's response reinforces the fact that he hasn't gotten through.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: Underwood.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_00]: you know what you would love to hear your quarterback say in that situation as well, you know, that's coach's decision and I've got to play well enough to earn the spot.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: But that didn't what we heard.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, Oklahoma with a very good defense, I think is going to cause even more problems for the Michigan offense and we and cover the five and a half.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: So we are in agreement on those two games we're both doomed.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: really intriguing important group of six game here.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: Memphis at Boise State, Boise was really good in defeat against Oregon, pushed them to the brink.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_00]: Memphis is two and oh has the big road win at Vegas.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: Memphis is getting eight and a half on the blue turf.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: These two plus western Michigan right now, long way to go.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: But those are the three that kind of have gotten to the
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: Does Boisie suffer some sort of let down after last week's game at Oregon where they played really well, but lose their at home, Memphis is showing that it can go across the country and play well.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'll take Memphis in the end in a half.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're finally we're going to diverge here and not without reservation because I agree I think Boise could have a let down and I like what I've seen from Memphis so far.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: Boise home opener, I think a really just a good quality team.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: I would like it a lot better at six and a half than eight and a half, but I'll take it at eight and a half and roll with the Broncos there.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a believer so far in what I've seen out of them.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right, big 12 game.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_00]: An important big 12 game, Arizona, which had a very good season last year, and is pushing Noah for feet to there,
- 52:50[SPEAKER_00]: fourth year quarterback for the Heisman, and perhaps justifiably getting seven and a half in Provo against BYU, which may be the favorite, depending how you feel about Texas Tech to win that league.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I took BYU as a favorite in that.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: Now, that might go the way of the
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't learn really anything about either team BYU what blew out Utah tech and Arizona beats Northern Arizona so I don't know what you take out of that, but I like the quarterback at Arizona.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: uh, and I like the points.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll take the point.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm getting a hook on that, right?
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: Was it seven and a half?
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, seven and a half.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll take that extra half point.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: So give me, give me the Wildcats.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'll land on the other side of this one too.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: The hook is tempting, but I'm going to say, be why you Arizona turned the ball over three times against Northern Arizona, little too sloppy for my taste going on the road now.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_00]: BYU's been a pretty opportunistic team under Kalani Sataka.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_00]: You give them turnovers.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_00]: They do things with them.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_00]: I like the just the veteran nature of the BYU roster.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of really good.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_00]: They did great job in retention of their players.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_00]: Me off season.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going with the coogers.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying they win by like 10.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: Last one before we get to our lock of the week.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_00]: is getting free at Boston College.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: And Rutgers was as bad, even worse than Michigan in the opening week got punked at home by UMass.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: Tell me about this game, Gene.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm glad you chose this game because it's for Boston College, it has great meaning, it's it's the Red Band Dan a game, which is done in honor of Wells Crowther, who was a certified 911 hero, the epitome of
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: of honor and of sacrifice and and he lost his life on 911 trying to help save others and did save others and there's an absolutely terrific story done by producer Drew Gallagher and then reporter Tom Renaldi for ESPN on it I encourage anyone just to go online Google it or go on ESPN and find it but it's it's
- 55:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you don't, if you don't have goosebumps, if you don't tear up, if you don't feel better about what we can accomplish as people after watching that story, you never will.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm taking Boston College, no, I don't care if they were giving a thousand points.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'd take Boston College just a honor of the Red Bandana game.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_00]: Love it.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm taking BC as well.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't seen the the Renaudi piece, it is it's it's some of the best storytelling and broadcast storytelling you will see in my opinion.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of people have seen it, but if you haven't, please do check it out 25 year anniversary of 9 11 on Friday, which.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it kind of mind boggling that.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_00]: that it's that much time has passed.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed, you know, very fresh.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_00]: If you were, you know, obviously alive and old enough to experience it, it was horrible horrible.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, you know, there's no point in trying to articulate how horrible it was, but it was also pretty profound how the sports world stopped.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_00]: uh and that became so unimportant and then it became very important again.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: I thought to like no games were played that first weekend afterwards but then it became important to play the games.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: I thought people wanted it needed it and and it mattered.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, maybe college sports college football matters much but it mattered in a different kind of way after 9-11.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, gee, well, pay Pat, just one last thing we, you know, we make a lot of fun on this show about
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the absurdities of certain conferences and coaches and things like that, but your exact right sports, it is a healer or can be when used the right way and it was a bandaid, nothing more, but it was an important bandaid after 9-11 and I do think it
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so excellent, you know, I'm glad you stood it that way.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, you know, keep keep all of that in mind.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_00]: Keep obviously everybody was affected by that in mind on Friday.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have a lock of the week?
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: I do my friend.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: My lock the week.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm actually giving 55 and a half points.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 58:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it actually might have gone up by the last time I'd looked.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you want to make a guess what the game is?
- 58:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, 55, I've never heard of a line that.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: 55 and a half, Florida, A&M at Hard Rock.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: against Miami.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: This will actually be, uh, uh, uh, a family just played at heart rock at the orange blossom classic, I believe it was called on Sunday.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_01]: So they're playing on a short week and they just lost their starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: Does this sound like something that Miami could could be them by more than 55 and a half points?
- 58:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my lock at the week.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, but I think you're crazy.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think we'll see.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're winning.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_01]: How'd you do last week?
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: I get terribly.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'd want to terribly.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_01]: One and four, I believe.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're winning 56 to nothing and the fourth string is in and they're not even paying attention in some, you know, some kid runs a 30-yard 40-yard touchdown and you've been, you don't cover.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_01]: Meet me here next Thursday and we'll discuss okay.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's going to take a long time just to get to the point of covering this like even they can, they have to score eight possessions lock of the week holy moly.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_01]: You go.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_01]: You go ahead.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_01]: You give me your, uh, Southland Conference or Mac lock the week again.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, the Mac betrayed me last week.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm off that bandwagon, but I am I'm laying a lump of the lumber in a game as well.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's dangerous because Kirby Smart has a history of kind of letting the foot off and messing around when they're killing teams.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_00]: But, but what I saw from Western Kentucky in the first game wasn't not good.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_00]: They got thumped by Nevada and now they're going between the hedges and I think Georgia puts it on on the number is 40.5.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_01]: And 45, you make it sound like it's a seven point spread or something.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_01]: But with me, the 55, there's a big lead.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's two more touchdowns.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: At a point where it's hard to win by 55 points.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_01]: Don't you bark at me like some little junkyard dogs?
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God, it's gonna have no mercy on the hilltoppers.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_00]: They're rolling.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think both our locks are the weaker bad, frankly, but that's what we got.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right, last thing, and then we are out of everyone's ears, but let me call it up here.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, all right, so the Western Michigan Police Department
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_00]: from Saturday night.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: This was happy.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_00]: This was good, I'll respect to Western Michigan University public safety.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_00]: Their crime log listing, you know, whatever happened on campus.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_00]: you know, generally speaking, probably like underage drinking or, you know, somebody breaking a window or something.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right, what we got here, robbery, 1053 PM Saturday night, reported at 1053 says occurred at 1054 general location, Michigan Stadium.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_00]: Dispositions suspect NCA, big 10 officials weren't requested.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_00]: I love that from from the Western Michigan public safety school.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_00]: Do they have a case gene?
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: Would you would you would you file a warrant here?
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what they really could have done to make this perfect is it could have said 1054.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, one.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, honor, but hey, whoever came up with that,
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just brilliant.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely brilliant.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_01]: I love to see when police departments have a sense of humor even after something like that.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_01]: So well done by Western Michigan.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, go Broncos.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think they got a lot of fans over the over the last seven days, so.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that's it for our show.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_00]: Enjoy the games this weekend.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_00]: It should be awesome.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we will talk to you next week.
