Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's Bedtime Stories,
- 0:13Speaker 1: the podcast that takes listener ideas and turns them into
- 0:17Speaker 1: bedtime stories. Now, about a year ago, probably I did
- 0:22Speaker 1: a story about a character named Blobby Blobby, the shape
- 0:28Speaker 1: shifting blob, and I think it was about him going
- 0:31Speaker 1: to school, and then I never did another story about
- 0:35Speaker 1: him for some reason. I think partially because I found
- 0:37Speaker 1: out that Blobby is also the name of a character
- 0:40Speaker 1: that a bunch of people in the UK know. It's
- 0:43Speaker 1: obviously a different Blobby, but yeah, if you're from the UK,
- 0:47Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about. Anyways, recently I got
- 0:50Speaker 1: a suggestion for a story in this universe.
- 0:53Speaker 2: And I decided we should probably do it. So let's
- 0:56Speaker 2: check out the suggestion.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Him. I'm ten years old and I have an idea
- 1:03Speaker 3: for a story that you did a long time ago.
- 1:07Speaker 3: I think it was like a shape shifting piece of
- 1:09Speaker 3: like slime or something, and last time you did it
- 1:12Speaker 3: it was like you brought it to school, and I
- 1:16Speaker 3: want to bring that guy back, that slime guy back,
- 1:19Speaker 3: and you take him out to an amusement park and
- 1:26Speaker 3: you have to try not to let the little slime
- 1:28Speaker 3: guy get caught. Thanks. I love your podcast so much.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Thank you Ryan.
- 1:33Speaker 1: That is an excellent suggestion. I love it, and that's
- 1:37Speaker 1: what we're going to do today. Before we get started,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I just want to give a big shout out to
- 1:42Speaker 1: some of my newest Patreon sponsors. Thank you to Eli,
- 1:47Speaker 1: who was nine years old from New Jersey and Megan
- 1:50Speaker 1: for sponsoring the podcast. If you like the podcast, I
- 1:54Speaker 1: really really appreciate your support, and there's lots.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Of ways to do it.
- 1:58Speaker 1: First of all, just by listening supporting the podcast, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: I really appreciate that. If you want to go any
- 2:04Speaker 1: further than that, you can leave me a rating review
- 2:08Speaker 1: wherever it is you're listening, or on every single platform
- 2:11Speaker 1: if you want to, and if you want ad free
- 2:14Speaker 1: episodes and some bonus content, you can head on over
- 2:18Speaker 1: to Patreon. I try to keep that really affordable if
- 2:20Speaker 1: that's something you're into. Motherwise, it's that time again. Time
- 2:26Speaker 1: to get as comfy as you can in that bed,
- 2:28Speaker 1: close your eyes and imagine yourself doing what the kid
- 2:33Speaker 1: in the story does. Now, if you didn't listen to
- 2:40Speaker 1: a Blobby episode before, it's a story about a blue gelatinous,
- 2:47Speaker 1: shape shifting blob who appeared underneath your bed, decided that
- 2:51Speaker 1: you were his mummy, followed you to school, ate garbage
- 2:56Speaker 1: and transformed into pretty much anything, which was pretty fun.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And since that day, Blobby has pretty much refused to
- 3:08Speaker 1: leave your side. Sometimes he sleeps under your bed and
- 3:12Speaker 1: eats the random garbage.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You throw there.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Sometimes he turns into a cat and sleeps on top
- 3:18Speaker 1: of your bed. Sometimes he turns into your pillow, which
- 3:23Speaker 1: you've learned is slightly dangerous because you don't always realize
- 3:26Speaker 1: which pillow is Blobby and you know which one's not
- 3:30Speaker 1: going to move underneath your head. But today is not
- 3:34Speaker 1: a school day. Today you've been given permission to go
- 3:41Speaker 1: to the amusement park. Imagine yourself standing in your bedroom.
- 3:49Speaker 1: You have your water bottle, you have a bit of money,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you have your hat, and you have Blobby, or at
- 3:59Speaker 1: least you did have Blobby. Blobby, you say, looking all
- 4:05Speaker 1: around for him. You looked underneath your bed and nothing.
- 4:10Speaker 1: You check inside your closet and nothing. Then you hear
- 4:15Speaker 1: a tiny noise behind you.
- 4:18Speaker 2: You turn around.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Blobby is sitting on your desk in his normal blue
- 4:24Speaker 1: blob form, only now he's somehow shaped himself into what
- 4:28Speaker 1: looks like a tiny roller coaster, a little blue track
- 4:33Speaker 1: and a tiny little cart moving around it, up and
- 4:38Speaker 1: down and around in a loop. Then Blobby transforms again,
- 4:44Speaker 1: this time into a ferris wheel, then a spinning teacup,
- 4:51Speaker 1: then something that looks sort of like a pirate ship,
- 4:54Speaker 1: swinging back and forth. You want to come to the
- 4:58Speaker 1: amusement park, don't you, Lobby, you say. Blobby melts back
- 5:03Speaker 1: into his normal form, a blue blob. Two little eyes
- 5:08Speaker 1: pop out, and he nods rapidly. Okay, but you can't
- 5:13Speaker 1: exactly walk through the front gate like that. Blobby thinks
- 5:18Speaker 1: about it, or at least you assume he does. It's
- 5:22Speaker 1: sometimes hard to tell what Blobby is thinking, because he's, well,
- 5:26Speaker 1: he's a blob. He suddenly starts to grow and grow
- 5:32Speaker 1: and grow. His little body stretches outward, four huge legs
- 5:37Speaker 1: of pear wings burst from his back, His head grows long,
- 5:43Speaker 1: two horns curl backwards, and within a few seconds, you're
- 5:49Speaker 1: standing in front of a gigantic blue dragon that's taking
- 5:53Speaker 1: up your entire bedroom.
- 5:55Speaker 2: You stare at him.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Ah, well, two things, Blobby. One, yes, I would like
- 6:06Speaker 1: a ride to the amusement park by a giant blue dragon.
- 6:10Speaker 1: That sounds like a great idea. But two, I think
- 6:15Speaker 1: you're gonna have to transform once you're already outside, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: when we get to the amusement park, I think you
- 6:23Speaker 1: need a better disguise. Blobby transforms back into a blob,
- 6:29Speaker 1: nods in agreement, transforms into a hamster, and scurries into
- 6:34Speaker 1: your pocket. You head outside your house, allow Blobby to
- 6:40Speaker 1: scamper out and into an open area, and then you
- 6:45Speaker 1: give them permission to transform. Bobby, this would be a
- 6:49Speaker 1: much better place, you say, as you look around to
- 6:53Speaker 1: make sure nobody's watching, and Blobby begins to grow and
- 6:59Speaker 1: grow and grow. Wings burst from his back again, his
- 7:04Speaker 1: head grows long once more, two huge horns of peer,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and you're again standing in front of a large blue dragon.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Blobby lowers one wing like a ramp. You climb aboard,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and moments later you find yourself clinging to the back
- 7:26Speaker 1: of a gigantic dragon as he soars through the sky.
- 7:31Speaker 1: You fly above roads, above houses, above fields, and eventually
- 7:38Speaker 1: you see it the amusement park. Roller Coasters twist through
- 7:44Speaker 1: the air of ferris wheel, rises high above everything else,
- 7:50Speaker 1: rides spin in circles, and crowds of people move between
- 7:54Speaker 1: them like tiny dots. Blobby. He lets out an excited roar,
- 8:00Speaker 1: not so loud, you yell. He immediately lowers his head
- 8:05Speaker 1: and dives, also not so fast. Blobby changes his color somehow,
- 8:14Speaker 1: becoming almost transparent, and he gently glides down towards a
- 8:21Speaker 1: wooded area beside the barking lot. Somehow nobody sees him
- 8:26Speaker 1: as he lands behind a thick patch of trees. I
- 8:31Speaker 1: see you've been working on camouflage, you say. Blobby transforms
- 8:36Speaker 1: into his normal blue blob form with two large eyes,
- 8:41Speaker 1: and nods excitedly. He transforms into a hamster once again,
- 8:46Speaker 1: and climbs up your leg and into your pocket, and
- 8:50Speaker 1: together you head into the park. The first thing you
- 8:56Speaker 1: notice is the smell pop corn, French fries, cotton candy, caramel,
- 9:05Speaker 1: hot dogs, basically everything that Blobby should absolutely not be eating.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Off the ground, you feel movement in your pocket. No,
- 9:17Speaker 1: you say, and the movement stops. You walk another few
- 9:23Speaker 1: steps and you feel movement again. Blobby. He freezes, you,
- 9:29Speaker 1: look down and two eyes slowly disappear back inside your pocket.
- 9:37Speaker 1: You are not eating amusement park garbage, Blobby, remains completely still.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You continue walking, and then you notice a single French
- 9:50Speaker 1: fry disappear underneath a nearby bench. You stop. You look
- 9:56Speaker 1: down at your pocket and it's empty. Blobby, a tiny
- 10:03Speaker 1: blue puddle slides back towards you. Blobby pops back up,
- 10:08Speaker 1: looking extremely pleased with himself. You sigh, this is going
- 10:14Speaker 1: to be a long day. Before you go on any rides,
- 10:19Speaker 1: you decide to try some of the carnival games. You
- 10:23Speaker 1: come across one where you have to throw three balls
- 10:27Speaker 1: at a stack of bottles, knock them all down, and
- 10:31Speaker 1: you win a stuffed animal. You decide that that is
- 10:35Speaker 1: in fact something that you want, and so you pay
- 10:38Speaker 1: for three throws. The carnival worker hands you the first ball.
- 10:44Speaker 1: You take careful aim throw. The ball hits one bottle.
- 10:49Speaker 1: The bottle wiggles and then stays exactly where it is
- 10:55Speaker 1: and looks a lot easier than it is in reality.
- 11:00Speaker 1: The second ball, you throw it as hard as you can,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and this one misses the balls completely and bounces off
- 11:07Speaker 1: the back wall. Oh man. You look at your final
- 11:12Speaker 1: ball and notice it has two little eyes. Blobby. The
- 11:19Speaker 1: eyes blink, but you decide he might beyond to something.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You sigh and throw the ball. At first, it looks
- 11:31Speaker 1: like a completely normal throw. Then halfway through the air,
- 11:36Speaker 1: the ball curves just slightly and stretches itself a little
- 11:42Speaker 1: bit wider, or at least you're pretty sure it does.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It slams directly into the middle of the bottles, and
- 11:51Speaker 1: every single bottle flies off the platform. The carnival worker
- 11:58Speaker 1: stares at them then, and you then at the ball
- 12:03Speaker 1: that's now rolled underneath the counter. A nice throw, kid,
- 12:09Speaker 1: uh thanks. A second later, Blobby crawls up the back
- 12:15Speaker 1: of your leg in hamster form and disappears into your
- 12:19Speaker 1: pocket once again. The worker hands you a large blue
- 12:24Speaker 1: stuffed bear.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Perfect. You hug it against your chest.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Okay, Blobby, we won, but technically I think that might
- 12:35Speaker 1: count as cheating. Blobby looks up at you out of
- 12:39Speaker 1: your pocket with a look that you're absolutely sure means
- 12:44Speaker 1: all carnival games are cheating. Anyways, You just shrug your
- 12:48Speaker 1: shoulders and agree. You start walking again, and once again,
- 12:53Speaker 1: Blobby climbs out of your pocket and lands on the ground.
- 12:58Speaker 1: He points towards a roller coaster. Then he transforms into
- 13:04Speaker 1: a miniature roller coaster. A tiny card zips up and
- 13:08Speaker 1: back and then he changes into a ferris wheel. You
- 13:13Speaker 1: quickly move over towards him and crouch down.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Blobby.
- 13:17Speaker 1: People are going to see you, you say, but okay,
- 13:21Speaker 1: you want to go on the rides. I don't know
- 13:26Speaker 1: if that's gonna work, though, you'd have to stay in
- 13:30Speaker 1: my pocket or something. People would probably notice a blue
- 13:35Speaker 1: blob sitting beside me on a roller coaster. Blobby looks
- 13:40Speaker 1: at you, then looks at the stuffed bear in your arms,
- 13:45Speaker 1: then back at you. His body shifts, fur appears, his
- 13:53Speaker 1: arms and legs reshape, and within seconds there are two
- 13:59Speaker 1: absolutely identical stuffed blue bears sitting in front of you.
- 14:04Speaker 2: You stare at him.
- 14:07Speaker 1: All right, I can't blame you. That is that's an
- 14:09Speaker 1: amazing idea. You look around and find a large tree
- 14:13Speaker 1: away from the main walkway. You carefully hide the real
- 14:17Speaker 1: stuffed animal behind it. You can pick it up later
- 14:21Speaker 1: if you feel like it. Then you pick up Blobby. Somehow,
- 14:27Speaker 1: he feels exactly like a stuffed bear, soft, fluffy, completely normal,
- 14:34Speaker 1: other than his eyes, of course, which look towards you. Okay,
- 14:39Speaker 1: remember if anyone's looking, you're just a stuffed animal. Blobby's
- 14:45Speaker 1: eyes disappear back into plastic looking eyes. His body goes
- 14:51Speaker 1: limp perfect. Your first ride is the roller coaster. You
- 14:58Speaker 1: carry Blobby through the lung and nobody notices anything. A
- 15:02Speaker 1: lot of people are carrying stuffed animals around. The ride
- 15:07Speaker 1: operator looks at the stuffed bear. Hugh, are you sure
- 15:11Speaker 1: you want to hold on to that?
- 15:13Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, I am, you answer, all right, hold on tight.
- 15:18Speaker 1: If you lose it, I'm not getting it for you.
- 15:22Speaker 1: You sit down and Blobby sits on your lap. The
- 15:26Speaker 1: safety bar comes down and the roller coaster begins climbing
- 15:32Speaker 1: the first hill. Click click, click click. You glance around
- 15:38Speaker 1: and luckily nobody's looking. Two little eyes reappear on Blobby's face,
- 15:45Speaker 1: then a mouth. He looks over the edge. His eyes
- 15:50Speaker 1: become enormous. And you're the one who wanted to do this,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you say. The coaster reaches the top. For half a second,
- 15:59Speaker 1: everything is quick wat then you drop, you scream. Blobby
- 16:06Speaker 1: throws both stuffed arms up into the air. They stretch
- 16:11Speaker 1: about three feet longer than they should Blobby he quickly
- 16:17Speaker 1: shrinks them again. The coaster twists around a corner and
- 16:21Speaker 1: Blobby's mouth opens into a giant smile. He's having the
- 16:26Speaker 1: time of his life.
- 16:28Speaker 2: But as soon as.
- 16:29Speaker 1: The coaster pulls back to the station, you whisper Stuffy, Stuffy,
- 16:36Speaker 1: Blobby instantly freezes, and the ride operator walks past nothing
- 16:42Speaker 1: but an ordinary stuffed bear. The next ride spins in circles.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Blobby loves that one too, at least for the first
- 16:52Speaker 1: thirty seconds. When the ride stops, you carry him away,
- 16:58Speaker 1: his two eyes appear and spin in opposite directions.
- 17:04Speaker 2: You okay.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Blobby slowly melts into your arms just a little, and
- 17:10Speaker 1: then pulls himself back together and resumes stuffed animal form.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I'll take that as a maybe feeling a bit dizzy,
- 17:19Speaker 1: are you? You go on the ferris wheel next, Blobby
- 17:24Speaker 1: comes alive again. As soon as your car rises into
- 17:28Speaker 1: the air, he presses his stuffed face against the side
- 17:32Speaker 1: and looks down at all the tiny people below. For
- 17:36Speaker 1: a little while, neither of you says anything. You just
- 17:41Speaker 1: look out over the park together, the roller coasters, the lights,
- 17:47Speaker 1: the people, the games. Then Blobby notices something, a half
- 17:54Speaker 1: eaten piece of cotton candy sitting on the floor of
- 17:57Speaker 1: the ferris wheel car. No, you say, Blobby looks at
- 18:02Speaker 1: you sadly, then at the cotton candy. No you say,
- 18:10Speaker 1: a tiny blue tentacle reaches out Blobby. The tentacle slowly retracts.
- 18:18Speaker 1: You look away for one second, and when you look back,
- 18:22Speaker 1: the cotton candy is gone, and Blobby is sitting perfectly still.
- 18:28Speaker 1: You are unbelievably bad at listening, you say. As the
- 18:34Speaker 1: day goes on, Blobby continues his amusement park buffet popcorn
- 18:42Speaker 1: under a bench, gone, dropped, gummy candy gone, half a
- 18:48Speaker 1: pretzel someone abandoned on a table.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Gone.
- 18:52Speaker 1: At one point you catch him stretching a tiny blue
- 18:56Speaker 1: arm six feet underneath a bench to grab a nacho.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Blobby the arm snaps back, Unfortunately, this time someone else notices.
- 19:08Speaker 1: An amusement park employee standing near by stops. She looks
- 19:14Speaker 1: directly at you, then at the stuffed bear.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Augh.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Did that stuffed animal just move? You freeze? Blobby freezes no,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you say. The employee narrows her eyes. I could have
- 19:34Speaker 1: sworn I saw something blue move. She starts walking toward you.
- 19:43Speaker 1: You look at Blobby, and Blobby looks at you with
- 19:46Speaker 1: his two little eyes, otherwise staying as still as possible.
- 19:51Speaker 1: This is not good. You need a distraction. You point
- 19:56Speaker 1: behind the employee. Oh, somebody dropped a whole tray of
- 20:02Speaker 1: fries the employee. He turns to look, and you begin
- 20:07Speaker 1: to run as quickly as you can. You run past
- 20:12Speaker 1: the carnival games, past the rides and duck out, and
- 20:17Speaker 1: behind the carnival itself to a slightly more secluded area.
- 20:23Speaker 1: You take a break and start to catch your breath.
- 20:27Speaker 1: You look around to see if the employee's following, and
- 20:31Speaker 1: luckily she isn't. And that's when three older kids step
- 20:37Speaker 1: in front of you. One of them looks at Blobby.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Nice teddy bear, he says. You stand up straight and
- 20:47Speaker 1: try to walk away. The kid steps in front of you.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Can I see it? No, you say. He reaches out
- 20:58Speaker 1: and grabs Blobby any anyways, Come on, give them back.
- 21:04Speaker 1: The kids laugh, one tosses Blobby to another, then another,
- 21:11Speaker 1: all the while Blobby stays completely still at first. Come on,
- 21:18Speaker 1: give them back, you say. One of the kids holds
- 21:22Speaker 1: Blobby above his head.
- 21:24Speaker 2: What are you gonna do about it?
- 21:27Speaker 1: Two little eves appear on Blobby's face. The kid sees
- 21:32Speaker 1: them and stop smiling.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Uh.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Then Blobby's head turns very slowly. The kid screams and
- 21:44Speaker 1: drops them. Blobby lands on the ground and then begins
- 21:50Speaker 1: to grow, first into a dog sized creature, then a
- 21:57Speaker 1: bear sized creature, then larger. His fluffy arms become gigantic,
- 22:05Speaker 1: His mouth stretches open, huge teeth appier. Two horns rise
- 22:11Speaker 1: from his head, and the kids start to back away.
- 22:16Speaker 2: What is that thing?
- 22:19Speaker 1: Blobby grows even larger and then lets out an enormous girl.
- 22:27Speaker 1: The three bullies scream, and one of them looks down,
- 22:33Speaker 1: Oh no, A wet patch spreads across the front of
- 22:38Speaker 1: his shorts. Another kid looks down at his own pants,
- 22:42Speaker 1: and then at the third kid. All three of them
- 22:47Speaker 1: have peed their pants. For about half a second, nobody moves,
- 22:54Speaker 1: and then all three of them scream and run away.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Blobby immediately shrinks smaller and smaller, until once again he's
- 23:05Speaker 1: nothing more than an innocent stuffed bear sitting on the ground.
- 23:09Speaker 1: You pick him up. H good job, you say, But
- 23:15Speaker 1: I think things are getting a little too crazy here.
- 23:19Speaker 1: It's probably time that we should go. By now, the
- 23:24Speaker 1: sun is starting to go down and the rides glow
- 23:28Speaker 1: with colored lights. The Fairess wheel shines above the park.
- 23:35Speaker 1: You carry the animal back over behind the grove of
- 23:39Speaker 1: trees where you landed in the first place. Blobby melts
- 23:44Speaker 1: into his normal gelatinous form, streams down onto the ground,
- 23:49Speaker 1: and once again begins to grow into a large blue dragon.
- 23:56Speaker 1: He lowers his wing, You climb a b and he
- 24:01Speaker 1: begins to run. He jumps into the air, spreads his
- 24:05Speaker 1: wings and flaps them harder and harder. You fly higher
- 24:12Speaker 1: and higher and higher, up above the amusement park, the
- 24:18Speaker 1: glowing roller coasters and ferris wheel. Blobby takes a few
- 24:24Speaker 1: trips around the place. Luckily, at this point nobody could
- 24:29Speaker 1: see him anyways, and then he heads straight back towards
- 24:34Speaker 1: your home, over streets and forests and houses and trees
- 24:41Speaker 1: until you start to see some familiar ground, your own neighborhood.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Blobby comes down for a gentle landing. You climb off,
- 24:54Speaker 1: and almost immediately he shrinks down and transforms back into
- 24:59Speaker 1: a little blue hand. As he scampers over, climbs up
- 25:03Speaker 1: your leg and into your pocket. You head inside your house,
- 25:09Speaker 1: go directly to your room, where well Blobby crawls out,
- 25:15Speaker 1: transforms into his normal blob form, and heads under the bed.
- 25:22Speaker 1: He's always linked it under there for some reason. You,
- 25:26Speaker 1: on the other hand, are feeling pretty tired, so you
- 25:31Speaker 1: crawl into your bed. You lay down on your pillow,
- 25:36Speaker 1: pull the covers up to your chin, and close your eyes.
- 25:42Speaker 1: With each breath, you release a little bit of tension
- 25:46Speaker 1: from your muscles. You allow your arms to relax, You
- 25:53Speaker 1: let your legs melt into the bed. You let go
- 25:59Speaker 1: of any tension, and your shoulders, your neck, and even
- 26:04Speaker 1: your face. And with each breath you sink down a
- 26:09Speaker 1: little bit deeper. The more you breathe, the deeper you sink,
- 26:16Speaker 1: and the deeper you sink, the better you feel, until
- 26:21Speaker 1: slowly you find yourself wandering off to thoughts of new
- 26:28Speaker 1: dreams and new adventures to come. Good Night everyone, m.
