• 0:19
Speaker 1: Whiskey Rich. They're going to be performing at the South
• 0:22
Speaker 1: Dakota Military Heritage Alliance for a really fun event on
• 0:25
Speaker 1: October 30th. First, how long have you guys been together?
• 0:29
Speaker 2: We formed in 2014, uh, that it originally was just
• 0:34
Speaker 2: a duo and, uh, now it's a five piece country
• 0:38
Speaker 2: band here. So we've been at it pretty hard for
• 0:41
Speaker 2: the better part of 12 years now.
• 0:43
Speaker 1: Well, you're doing something right. I see whiskey rich playing
• 0:46
Speaker 1: all over the place. How far and why do you
• 0:48
Speaker 1: guys travel to perform music?
• 0:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're pretty, uh, we're based out of Sioux Falls.
• 0:52
Speaker 2: So I live here. We're pretty regional. Um, but we
• 0:56
Speaker 2: will do anywhere in South Dakota and then Northwest Iowa, um, that,
• 1:02
Speaker 2: you know, that North, uh, Eastern part of Nebraska and
• 1:06
Speaker 2: then Southwest Minnesota. So kind of this four state hub
• 1:10
Speaker 2: here is our main territory.
• 1:12
Speaker 1: Well, and you had mentioned that it started as a
• 1:14
Speaker 1: duo and the band has grown while also the fan
• 1:16
Speaker 1: base has grown. You guys have a ton of fans. Uh,
• 1:19
Speaker 1: people absolutely love the band whiskey rich.
• 1:22
Speaker 2: Yes, it is grown. Uh, over the years. Yeah, we
• 1:26
Speaker 2: have a lot of loyal followers. Even when I play
• 1:29
Speaker 2: the solo shows on these bar patios, I see the
• 1:33
Speaker 2: same 20, 30 people. Every single show, they are loyal
• 1:37
Speaker 2: and they show up. And it's really nice to have
• 1:40
Speaker 2: great support right here in Sioux Falls. And even we're
• 1:44
Speaker 2: starting to see Good pockets in Iowa and Minnesota and
• 1:47
Speaker 2: all over, people that are enjoying country music.
• 1:50
Speaker 1: October 30th would be an awesome time to get out
• 1:53
Speaker 1: and see Whiskey Rich as they perform at the South
• 1:56
Speaker 1: Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. There's also a costume contest that night,
• 2:00
Speaker 1: and there's some trivia and other fun things happening before
• 2:03
Speaker 1: the band gets started. Chris, have you guys performed at
• 2:06
Speaker 1: the Alliance in the past?
• 2:08
Speaker 2: Yes, we have opened a few shows for some bigger
• 2:12
Speaker 2: acts there. Um, I, I think it was 2022. We
• 2:16
Speaker 2: opened up for Tracy bird there, which was unbelievable. I
• 2:21
Speaker 2: love Tracy bird, obviously. And then just this last March
• 2:24
Speaker 2: of 2026, we opened up for Blackhawk, which was also amazing.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: I just can't believe how good those guys are at
• 2:33
Speaker 2: their age. Just killing it. They sounded phenomenal.
• 2:37
Speaker 1: Speaking of the band Blackhawk, I had a chance to
• 2:39
Speaker 1: visit with them back in the 1990s. I worked in
• 2:42
Speaker 1: country radio at the time. And one of the things
• 2:44
Speaker 1: that I thought was pretty cool is the name Blackhawk
• 2:47
Speaker 1: was not the original name of that band. Do you
• 2:49
Speaker 1: know their original name?
• 2:50
Speaker 2: I have no idea.
• 2:52
Speaker 1: And I kind of wonder if they would have been
• 2:54
Speaker 1: as big as Mustwang. That was the original name.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: That can't be as good as Blackhawk.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: The story was told to me by Henry, I believe
• 3:03
Speaker 1: is his name, the lead singer maybe of Blackhawk. And
• 3:05
Speaker 1: he said they weren't quite sold on Mustang and they
• 3:07
Speaker 1: were sitting in traffic on their way to sign the
• 3:10
Speaker 1: record deal. And there was a truck that said Blackhawk
• 3:12
Speaker 1: Printing that pulled up next to him. So if they
• 3:14
Speaker 1: hadn't been in traffic, maybe they'd have been Mustang. But
• 3:17
Speaker 1: I think Blackhawk worked out pretty darn good for the band.
• 3:20
Speaker 2: Yes, it worked out pretty well for them. I don't
• 3:23
Speaker 2: think they have any regrets, I'm sure.
• 3:24
Speaker 1: So now I get to ask about your name, Whiskey Rich.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: Where did that come from?
• 3:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, good question. Um... You know, I think it was,
• 3:33
Speaker 2: you know, I said this started as a duo. It
• 3:35
Speaker 2: was the other gentleman that started this band with me
• 3:38
Speaker 2: that came up with that name. And I'm not really,
• 3:41
Speaker 2: I don't think he ever really had a real rhyme
• 3:44
Speaker 2: or reason as to how he came up with that.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: It just popped in his head and we were like,
• 3:51
Speaker 2: oh yeah, that sounds pretty good. And we just stuck
• 3:53
  Speaker 2: with it.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: It is pretty good. I like it a lot. Again,
• 3:56
Speaker 1: Whiskey Rich is the band that is going to be
• 3:58
Speaker 1: performing at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance on October 30th.
• 4:02
Speaker 1: It is a costume contest that night as well. You
• 4:05
Speaker 1: guys are going to get to see some people dressed
• 4:07
Speaker 1: in really fun outfits. There's also, leading up to the
• 4:10
Speaker 1: costume contest and leading up to the band, going to
• 4:12
Speaker 1: have some Halloween music playing and some spooky trivia, Halloween trivia.
• 4:17
Speaker 1: I'm actually working on getting that stuff all ready to
• 4:20
Speaker 1: go right now. It's going to be a darn good night. Again,
• 4:22
Speaker 1: it's Friday, October the 30th, and I'm super excited for
• 4:26
Speaker 1: that costume contest. That's going to be awesome.
• 4:28
Speaker 2: Yes, I'll be. The band is going to be dressed up.
• 4:30
Speaker 2: We'll have costumes. Also, with your $ 25 ticket, there is
• 4:35
Speaker 2: an appetizer food spread, and you also get a ticket
• 4:39
Speaker 2: for one of the signature Halloween cocktails. They're making a
• 4:43
Speaker 2: menu of spooky drinks they're calling them. I think there
• 4:48
Speaker 2: could be some dry ice coming out of them. So
• 4:51
Speaker 2: a lot of fun cocktails that they'll have. So you
• 4:53
Speaker 2: get a cocktail and a food spread and some country
• 4:56
Speaker 2: music and a costume contest. And all the while you'll
• 5:01
Speaker 2: be supporting all of the services that they do with
• 5:04
Speaker 2: veterans and current military. If you like to party and
• 5:08
Speaker 2: you like to support our military, come on out to
• 5:11
Speaker 2: the Alliance October 30th.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun.
• 5:15
Speaker 1: And you had mentioned the cocktails. They also have mocktail
• 5:18
Speaker 1: versions of that. So if you're going, hey, I want
• 5:20
Speaker 1: to go, but I don't want to drink, that's cool.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: You can have fun without drinking too. And I love
• 5:25
Speaker 1: the fact that they thought of that with the mocktail version.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: So there's no booze in that style of drink.
• 5:29
Speaker 2: Yes, totally. Yep. If you don't want to wear a costume,
• 5:33
Speaker 2: you don't have to. If you don't want to drink,
• 5:35
Speaker 2: you don't have to. Come on out and support. This
• 5:39
Speaker 2: is really important work that the Alliance does in our community.
• 5:42
Speaker 2: So- Your $ 25 ticket is going right back into all
• 5:46
Speaker 2: of the support services that they provide our veterans and
• 5:50
  Speaker 2: current military.
• 5:51
Speaker 1: Absolutely. And Chris, thanks for taking the time to chat.
• 5:54
Speaker 2: Thanks for having me.
• 5:55
Speaker 1: Again, Chris is with the band Whiskey Rich. They are
• 5:57
Speaker 1: performing on Friday, October 30th at the South Dakota Military
