- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Hi, how are you?
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Good, thanks.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: How are you doing?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: I'm doing you know, I'm doing fine.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I feel like if I said I was doing great, that would be a lie.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And if I said I was doing bad, you know, it's it's not a total lie, but it's not a, you know.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: We're there.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: We're we're listening we're doing fine.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I'm doing fine.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Well you've just had you've had your two vaccines now, so you're on your way to Yeah.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: My roommate has not, though, so not much has changed for me.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Uh it's one of those things where I'm like, uh, you know, I'm fine, but I think it it'll probably be like two months or something before I start venturing out into the world again.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: I've I've had half of mine, so I'm still waiting.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: I've got like 12 weeks to go, I think.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Or something like that.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Are you UK?
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so between our ones are like 12 weeks.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: It's a real long time.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: So it's wild.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then two weeks on top of that.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: So summer before I can do anything.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I get that.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, but listen, you at least you got the first one.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So I know.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I'm very lucky to get the first one because it's also I'm also too young to get it.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: I got I got it on one of those like cancellations.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's perfect.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: That's that's the best.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah, I'm I'm uh diabetic, so it was one of those things where I was like, yes, I can get it.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I can get it fairly quick.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: You got it nice and early.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And then I had to like rent a car and drive an hour to go out there, and it was a whole thing.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, drive an hour to Brooklyn.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Like it was just took a long time because you're in New York.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Um right, okay.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Uh you just wanted to get there, you had to get there fast.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I had to get there fast.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: That was it.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I I didn't want to get on a train.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I've not been on a train since March 10th, 2020.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: That was my last day.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And then uh yeah, I was like, I'd rather rent a car and just make myself.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I've had like I've been on one train in the last year, and that was over last summer, where I had to get I had to like go into London for something, and then that was it.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: It was like, I'm not doing this again.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I uh we really locked down here in this house.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: We I I've probably left my house twenty times maybe in the year.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe twenty.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: That that even seems like a lot.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Um you're not even doing any walks or anything.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: I'm not doing as many walks as I should be doing.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I got I got a uh I got a stationary bike.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Um so that sort of took the place of a lot of outdoor activity, but it was very busy around me, and there were a lot of people outside, and it just drives the anxiety up, you know.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: So it was one of those things where I was like, I'll just I'll stay I'll stay home.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Don't worry about it, guys.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Have fun.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that does make sense.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: I'm I I had to move home in the middle of the pandemic, so that was just like a whole other thing.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's rough.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: That's tough.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: That was yeah, that was pretty rough.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: But yeah, now it's like now it's getting to the situation where it's like, oh well, now we can kind of get back to a little bit of normalcy, I hope.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Sure, that's fine.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: The thing I find funniest about uh with with you is that you um you shaved everything off.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Like you shaved your head and beard completely and now it's like fully grown again.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: It truly shows the passage of time.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: I think it was March 16th.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: It was like both so early to do it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Like it was one of those things where I it was March 16th, so it was six days into lockdown, and I was like, you know what?
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: It's gone.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: It's all gone.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I'm shaving it all off.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Um I've shaved my head a few more times since then.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Uh so the hair.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the hair is not as long as it would be.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: But I I'm trying to remember the last time I I think it was December.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: So this is like only since December.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's pretty fast.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: My hair grows fast, yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: And then my beard hit a point and it kind of stopped growing.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Just stops, yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but hopefully, hopefully I will be trimming that soon, I think is the plan.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: So you've um come on the podcast today to talk about Van Helsing.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: And you gave me the quickest response I've ever had to to an uh to the question, what would you like to do?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I believe it was let me check to see how long between emails.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: 348 and 352.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: It was four minutes.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Four minutes, and truly most of that four minutes was just me googling uh the Rotten Tomato score for Van Helsing.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: I knew it was a good one.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Well, you sent me a screenshot back, so like you clearly looked it up as well.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to make sure.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: What so oh, by the way, the sc the score is 24% and for the critics, and the audience score is 57%.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: IMDB is six six point seven though.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's higher than I was expecting.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Given that given the rotten tomato score.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Uh so what made you pick it then?
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, listen, I I love Van Helsing.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: I got I got the biggest soft spot for Van Helsing.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Do you want the full do you want the full backstory to it all?
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: If you want to give it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: No, actually, sorry.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having me on.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate that.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Um it depends on how long it is.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: If it's like an hour long.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: No, no, it is not an hour long.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: No, I mean, uh, when I was growing up, like, you know, when I was probably geez, I don't even know, five, maybe five or six, my parents bought me all of the Universal Monster movies on VHS.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: So it's like, you know, Frankenstein, Dracula Wolfman, Bride of Frankenstein, all those, all those classics.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, because I had been borrowing um I guess I mean the best way to describe them are picture books, but they were like novelizations almost of those movies from my elementary school library.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: They were like little short, like 30-page things, which is like pictures from the movie.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: So I would borrow those from the library, and my parents were like, well, you should just see these movies, I guess, since you just keep borrowing Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman uh, you know, uh book uh as a second grader or whatever.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Um these are the ones from the 30s.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so these are the ones from the 30s, 40s, 50s.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: That was kind of the the heyday for me.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Um and I just watched them so many times.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: I was obsessed.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I would like borrow any book from like we would get like I don't know if this is the same in the UK, but like at the libraries here, you can do like interlibrary loans.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: So you could be like, I want this random book from the 60s, and they only have it in like Fairfield, like an hour away, and they will like ship it from that library to your library.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: So I would just like go and just search any like keyword, any like Dracula, Frankenstein, Universal Monster, anything, and like get every book in the state of Connecticut like sent to me, even though I hadn't seen most of these movies, because most of these movies were not like technically available, like readily available without like buying all the VHSs.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Um I you know, I I had only seen really a couple of them, but I'd seen them so many times, and then probably I guess 2003, 2004, somewhere around there, they were coming out on DVD, and they were coming out in like packages.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: So it was like Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, House of Frankenstein, like it was like all of them in the one collection, and on all of the DVDs, they had bonus features where this guy would come on and be like, Hi, I'm Steven Summers, the director of Van Helsing.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: We really loved these movies uh growing up, and that's why we decided to make our movie, Van Helsing.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: And it was just like these DVDs were just plugs for Van Helsing.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: That was like the only reason I, as far as I can tell, though that was like the reason they got released on DVD was to help promote this new movie, Van Helsing.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Um, so immediately I was on board.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh hell yeah, this is the best thing in the world.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Like, let's frickin' reboot the monsters.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Like, this is listen, kids, I know all you kids out there listening know and love the dark universe, but this is before the dark universe when they were trying to reboot the monsters uh an earlier time.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And I I wish they had.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: I wish I still have a soft spot for this movie.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I watched it again last night and I was like Yeah, I saw you I saw you posting about it.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I would love if there was just like five Van Helsing movies.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: It would be so fun.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Anyways, that's my that's my general story uh for it.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I saw it when it came out.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I have I think I have uh I I had and I think I still have it might be at my parents' house, the making of book, like the making of Van Helsing.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: The making of Van Helsing made they they made a book of it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I had like the soundtrack.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I was like all in on this movie, and I understand now that that's crazy because this movie is insane.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Uh but like I was like fully on board.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Fully on board.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Your group is like such a group of collectors, I know.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I have I feel like I have so much junk in this apartment where like you could mention something and I'll be like, oh yeah, you mean like this, and just like pull it off from off camera and like have something directly related to whatever you're talking about.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: But then if you combine it with the stuff that is still at my parents' house, it it's like I just live in a museum, you know, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: I mean it's quite it's quite interesting.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: I'd be quite excited to look at all that, but like I'm also kind of a film nerd, so sure, sure.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: I get that.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, how old were you when you saw it then?
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Were you saying you were saying you were very young?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Well, this came out in 2004, so I would have been 12 at that point.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I was in sixth grade.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Uh actually I was probably depending on when it came out, it was probably seventh grade, is my guess, because my guess is it came out around Halloween, probably.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: If they were smart.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: No, they were not smart.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: It came out in May.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: So I was about to graduate in sixth grade.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Why would you put this movie out in May?
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: That is what a terrible time to release.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: But also that No, you know what?
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: It does kind of make sense around that time because it's still a blockbuster movie and like that was the time for it.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Yes, but if you're gonna put a monster movie, that's like it's like when they released solo in uh whatever, May or whatever it was, where it's like you guys had put a tentpole in being like December Christmas time is the Star Wars time, and then they're like, never mind, we're gonna change that.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: And it's like, why'd you do that?
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: You should have just like just for the May the 4th thing, wasn't it?
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: It was it.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: It was.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: I don't want to talk about solo though.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Um you so I was 15 when this came out, and I I remember seeing it at the cinema, but I it had no impact on me whatsoever from what I remember because I I remembered nothing about this movie until I just watched it again today.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I would like to be clear, I think it probably had no impact on 98% of uh you know the world citizens.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: I do not remember a single thing about this movie.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 11:39unknown: Great.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: But you watched I don't know like But you watched it today.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I watched it today.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: I watched it this morning.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: I'm so happy.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: But it's it cost so much money as well.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: But it cost it's it it cost, I think it was 160 million, right?
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Was the budget?
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: But 160 to 170, they say.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it made 300 million.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: But that's a lot of money.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: But it made it made 120 in the US.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Which is the thing.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: That's what they want.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: I know, I get it.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: But th I I would have assumed it made less than 300 million.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: So would I.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: I thought it bombed.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: I thought it did yeah.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: I don't I I was also very surprised to see how much it cost, because it doesn't look it does not look like it costs that much.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: No, it doesn't.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: It doesn't.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: This looks like an 80 to 90, maybe.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: It is also crazy because they like shot a lot of it in like Prague.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: In like Czech Republic area.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Like all that.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Which is usually where you go when you're like, we want to shoot this movie on the cheap.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Like, we want to like not spend a ton of money.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: And like there are like sets in the movie, but there's also a lot of like on location stuff, and like you know, like they shoot in a church, and they shoot like they didn't have to build that church, you know.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: So I just want to know where all this money went.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a lot of CGI in it.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: There is, but it's not good CGI.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Hey, I agree.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: I I agree.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: It's cheap CGI.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: It's cheap CGI.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, 2005.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: I wonder how much Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsell got for it.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: That is a great question that I don't even know.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Because also this is post X-Men.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: But it's but it's pre-X-Men 2, I think.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Let me confirm that that's Um He would have been filming this as the second one came out.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Because I uh I read this yesterday, this is why I remember this.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: There's an IMDB fact where I think it's the second to last scene in X-Men 2 was filmed on his day off from this movie.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Oh well.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: Um fun.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: But but I'm saying he's not like he's not he's not a huge star.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: He's not Hugh Jackman yet.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Like he's Hugh Jackman, but he's not Hugh Jackman, whoa, you know?
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it's crazy.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: But X2 also comes out the year before.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Even though they shot them at the same time, X2 comes out the year before.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Um and has better CGI.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: And it cost 110 to 125, which is wild because there's so many more famous people in that movie.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Like, also, we were um what uh a fact I like, my roommate and I were like looking up last night because we were like, what has Kate Beckensdale done?
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Like, beyond Underworld and beyond this.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: I can only think of click.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: That was all we could think of, too.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of all there is.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Like it's fascinating to look at her career because like she's a person who you like know.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: You're like, oh, Kate Beckensdale, yeah, she's a thing.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: And then you look at like the list of stuff she's done, it's like yeah, it's kind of just like underworld.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: Like serendipity, Pearl Harbor, she's got a little thing in the aviator.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Uh you know, like there's not a lot.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Tiptoes.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes, everyone's favorite tiptoes.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it's just it's it's a fascinating cultural moment because this movie also just feels it feels like 2004 encapsulated in a movie, and I don't know how to explain that.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: I don't know how to explain it.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: I was thinking that the entire time as well.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: It's so of the time.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: Yes, absolutely.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: But here's something that I do like about this movie, and it's that they're like really frickin' going for it.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Like, they're doing a lot of weird stuff, and I like that.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Like, there's it's a lot of stuff.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: I know uh I feel like a lot of people have talked about how in like Phantom Menace, when Darth Maul and Obi-Wan are fighting, there's those red buzzer things that like keep them from moving forward at all.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: And it's like they never explain what that is.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: And that's great.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: It's just like, oh, this is what's in this world, and that's the way I feel about those little minion guys.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Where it's just like what do absolutely nothing.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: But just like, what are those?
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: And they just never tell you, and I like that a lot.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: They're like little banes, aren't they?
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Almost they're little banes, but they're also kind of just minions, too.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Like the animated minions.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: They're just very weird.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know what they are.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: But and and then they are never explained, aren't they?
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: No, you're right.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Um like about this, and I think this puts it in the time period, is that all of other than Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsell, nobody in this is famous.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: And or like very well known, but they still get huge roles.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: So like the guy playing Dracula.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Who is that?
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: His name's his name's Richard Roxborough.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: He's a um he's in like Moulin Rouge uh and like Mission Impossible 2, but he's like a theater guy.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Here's the other thing.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Right I watched all the bonus features on the Blu-ray uh last night, just to put it on.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: You're gonna know everything about this, aren't you?
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Can I blow your can I blow your gosh darn mind?
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: Go for it.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: You remember Dracula's Bride, the brown haired one?
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: The one they got married after this movie.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: And they are still married.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: They are still married to this day.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: It makes you a little happy.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: You're like, the longest lasting impact of this movie is that they're still married.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Um, but uh Hugh Jackman, he he's like an Australian theatre guy.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: And Hugh Jackman talks about in the bonus features, he was like, when I was coming up, people would say, Who do you look up to?
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Who are like your your idols?
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: And he said, It's Jeffrey Rush and it's Richard Roxborough.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Like those were like his two guys where he's like, I want to be like that guy because he's he's like has uh the career that I want, which is crazy.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: He did he did Broadway, yeah.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Here it is.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: He did Broadway in 2016, 2017 with uh Kate Blanchette.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: It was the show, and they were like the two above the title people, and I was like, the only reason I would like walk by the theater and be like, oh, it's Dracula.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh I knew him from.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Everyone's like, oh, Kate Blanchette.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: No, Dracula's there as well.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Uh but yeah, who else David Wenham?
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: You didn't go see it then.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: I did not go see it.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: I should have, and I didn't.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: David Wenham, who plays You should have stood outside with your Van Helsing poster.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: He plays uh the guy who plays Carl, who's like the friar, his friend.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Um he's Faramir in the Lord of the Rings movies.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he looked familiar.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he's in um he's in like 300 too, but that's okay.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: He's in a few things.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: But the guy who played geez, this is uh the guy who played Frankenstein, this guy Schuler Hensley, he's like a Broadway guy.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: And he also played Frankenstein's monster in Young Frankenstein the musical.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Which I saw in high school that he was also in the touring version of the show, and he came to like Hartford near me, and it was I was so excited because I was like, it's the guy from Penn Helsing.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: Is he good?
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, this show's not great, but like you know, he played Frankenstein, you know?
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, you're right.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: There's like not really a lot of people, like Robbie Coltrane is like Mr.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: Hyde, but you don't see his face.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: You know, he's just the voice.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: But what I mean is like now they would stack the cast with like Absolutely.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Just all A listers or like A and B list.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: It's especially like when you when you look at the the what they were gonna do with the new with that new series that did that got cancelled.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: They were all huge.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Which again, this movie cost$170 million, and you're not really paying the cast.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Like, like you're paying because Beckonsdale, another IMDB fact that I really like, is they didn't want to give the script to Beckonsdale because she had just done Underworld.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: And they were like, She won't do it.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: She just did this movie, it's exactly the same thing.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: So they like didn't send it to her, and then her agent heard about it and was like, Give us the script, we'll give it to her, and we'll see if she wants to do it.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: And they gave it to her, and she immediately said yes.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Which I think is so funny.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Because Underworld had like just come out, and it's a very similar world.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: So similar.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 2003 the first Underworld came out.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: I don't even know how many underworlds there are at this point, but she's really got been like typecast into that.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: She can't get out of that now.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: Here we go, let's see how many.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: There have been.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: I think she's not in one of them, if I remember.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, here we go.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Underworld, Underworld Evolution, Underworld Rise of the Lichens, Underworld Awakening, Underworld Blood Wars.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Also, my favorite thing about these movies is like it's like every three years one comes out.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: Like it's like 2006, 2000 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2016.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: It's just so funny.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: And now I guess they're over, I don't know.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: I I mean we're about we're past due for the other one, you know.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's over three years now.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Um I'm just looking at her career now as well.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I it's so it's a Weird.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: She did the Van Helsing uh her two movies in 2004 were Van Helsing and the Aviator.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: I mean listen, that was polar opposite.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: I'll say this.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: It was a good year for Kate Packensdale.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: And she's pretty good.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: From what I remember, she was good in that.
- 22:18unknown: Yeah.
- 22:18unknown: Yeah.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: Who's she put?
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: She's like Ava Gardner or something in there?
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Ava Gardner, yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Anna Valerius and Ava Gardner.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a fascinating.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: It's an interesting career.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: I saw that in New York actually as well.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: The aviator or Everybody's Fine.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Everybody's fine.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Not a movie I can remember either, but.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: I feel like you should never put a word in your title that you don't want to be used against you in reviews.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Where they'd be like, everybody's fine is fine.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Like something like that.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: That does describe that movie.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's a good cast.
- 23:03unknown: Yeah.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: De Niro.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Sam Rockwell and Beckinsdale, yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: It's also Ben Schwartz's first movie, from what I remember.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Melissa Leo's in it?
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Ooh, Damian Young from The Comeback.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: It's a good cast.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: But yeah, looking at her career since then, she's like really not done a lot.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean you're right.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Total Recall, that remake.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Um I don't even know half of these movies.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Maybe she just doesn't.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, you never know what's going on.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Maybe she doesn't want to work.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: I know she hasn't even been in a movie for three years.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: She's got she's got one in post-production called Jolt.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: With Bobby Canavale, Laverne Cox, Stanley Tucci, and Jai Courtney.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Which is a that is a cast.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: That's a cast.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: That's a weird cast.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: It doesn't even describe what it is, it just says an upcoming American action film.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: Also, the director, the director's last movie, I oh no, there's one in between.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: But the movie they're known for is a movie called Hysteria, which is a British period romantic comedy.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Well, that's how they got Kate Beckinson.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Wild.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: Um anyways, back to Van Helsing.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Back to Van Helsing.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, it's what is it?
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: 24%.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And so, wait, do you do you love this movie or do you just defend it because it's because you love the universe?
- 24:52unknown: Jeez.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: That's a tough question.
- 24:55unknown: It's a tough question.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: Because I'll say this.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: I watched this movie.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Maybe we should work our way up to that then.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe we work our way up to it.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: I will say.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: I watched it maybe three years ago with a friend who had never seen it.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: And I remember you might have a different take on this.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: I remember it really slogging the last time I watched it.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: I remember it being like, because the movie's two and a half hours long.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: It's a long movie.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: It's a very long movie.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: And I remember it feeling like two and a half hours long.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: But then I watched it with my roommate last night, and we had a lot of fun with it, and I was like, didn't necessarily feel like two and a half hours.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: I was like, it definitely felt two hours.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: But that extra half hour.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: So I mean This felt like a good three and a half hours.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I love to hear that.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Drags.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: Here's what I'll say.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: I think I am not.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: I think I'm pretty good at acknowledging a movie as bad, but still enjoying it.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: And that is how I feel about this movie.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Like, I know that it is not good, but I'll watch it again.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Like, this is not the last time I will see this movie.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: It is gonna bring more people in to watch it.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: How many people have you introduced to this movie?
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, the last two times alone, I introduced my roommate and then my friend the time before that.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: So there's at least two.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: I was someone asked me last night how many times I've seen this movie, and I genuinely like almost had a little breakdown, being like, I think I've seen this movie like 12 times, probably.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: I was gonna question it.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: Like, I it's been a while beyond those two times like since I had seen it.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: But when it when I had it on DVD, like when it first came out on DVD, I was like, I probably watched it like a bunch, and I saw it in theaters at least once.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: I brought it up, I was on a Zoom call with my family earlier, and they were like, What are you doing today?
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Oh, I'm doing a podcast where I have to talk about Van Helsing, and my aunt and uncle, who live in London, they go, We love Van Helsing, and then my grandma goes, We saw that in theaters together.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Why do you all remember this movie?
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Um just a Kottner thing.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: It's a cotton thing.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: It's made for you guys.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: That's so strange.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Look, I don't remember ever talking about this movie to anyone.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, my grandma, I guess I remember like I understand why she remembers it because like, you know, we saw it in theaters and I liked it as a kid and stuff like that.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: But my aunt and uncle, I have no idea why this is like they're like, I believe what they said was it's one of the few movies that if it's on TV, we will not turn it off.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Wow, what?
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: One of the few movies, one of the few movies, yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's so But you know what's interesting is like Stephen Summers, who directed this, yeah, he also directed The Mummy.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: And that is a movie that if it's on, I will not turn off.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: Now I'll say this.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: I just watched the mummy for the first time.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: I'd never seen it before.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: I was not too much of a mummy guy.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Uh like even with like the universal old ones.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: Like it was just not one.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: I feel like they're pretty comparable in terms of like style.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: I'll say this.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: I didn't really like it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: And I I understand that it's like a thing for a lot of people, and I really wanted to like it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna watch the second one just because I'm like curious.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Uh the second one is a little bit worse, but it's still fun.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: And it the CGI is atrocious as well.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Well, that's but I thought the CGI in the first one was atrocious too.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Wait till you wait till you see wait till you see the Scorpion King.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: I oh, I mean I've seen it.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: I've seen him.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Oh okay.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, I know what's coming.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: I I wish I like it's got a similar vibe though, where you're like, yeah, everyone's having fun here, and I can tell.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Uh I usually like that as well, which is why I'm quite surprised that I didn't enjoy this.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Well, this movie is nuts.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: This movie's crazy.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: I mean it is.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: We should also say logic to it.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: No, no, there's not.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Uh but it reminded me of those old movies in a way where, like, by the time you get to like House of Frankenstein or House of Dracula in the 40s, you're like, what is the plot of this movie?
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, Dracula's like an a British aristocrat now, and like Frankenstein's part of a traveling circus that shows up in Transylvania?
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: You're like, what?
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: I don't understand anything.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of how this movie is, where you're just like, okay, I guess that's what we're going with.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Sure, let's let's just roll with it.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: Um yeah.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: So it uh does it feel like it's told with for someone who knows the history of th those old movies really well, does it feel like it's like hearkening back to those then and like paying on my shortcuts?
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Well, here's what I to them.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Here's my my favorite part of the movie is the first like five to ten minutes.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: The black and white stuff.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: I get that.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: That I really enjoyed that actually.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: I think it's so good.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: It like looks like that era while still updating it, you know, where they're like using the CGI when they're like on the um uh windmill and stuff, and you know, you get like the fire explosions and all that stuff.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: I think that stuff is great, and I wish they kept that aesthetic instead of being like, well, this guy, this Van Helsing guy, he's like James Bond in the 1800s, you know, like they're really leaning into that.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Um glad you said that because I wrote that down at one point as well.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: I mean that scene with Carl where he's like, here's a here's a with the gadgets.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the gadgets.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Does there's one gadget that he introduces?
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: It's like a ball where he's like It's a ball of exploding light, they describe it.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a ball of exploding light where he says, I don't know what it's for, and then he's like, But I've been working on it for like 10 years or whatever.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: And Van Helsing's like, How do you not know what it's for after working on it for so long?
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: And Carl's like, Well, I know what it does, I just don't know what I'm gonna use it for.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: And then correct me if I'm wrong, do they never use it in the movie?
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: No, he does use it.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, he does?
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: When does he use it?
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Right near the end, Carl uses it, um, and he throws it.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: And um the light go the light goes off and um it kills a bunch of the vampires.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, cool.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: But then um but then he goes, That's what it was supposed to be used for.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Now I know, or something like that.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: That part clearly had a big impact on me.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's not great.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, just the the Bond like gadgety stuff is weird because it just feels so uh Especially at that time when Bond wasn't really like in the zeitgeist as much.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: There's there's there's things I really like in this movie.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Like, I really like Frankenstein in this movie.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: I really like it.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: I think the design is so cool.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: I like that he just talks like a theater actor.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: I think that that's fun.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Um It's very over the top, and I I did enjoy it.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's very over the top.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Dracula's very over the top, uh, in a way that's like fine.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know, it's fine.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Um Wolfman's kind of forgettable.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel like Wolfman's wasted.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's just like a hot boy who's who turns into a wolf.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Like there's nothing nothing really.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Uh that's what I mean.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Like uh there's quite a few huge characters in in this that kind of just throwaways.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: And I don't know why, if they were considering doing a series of it, that they threw them all in at once as well.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: Yes, I agree with that too.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: And in addition to those I can see that.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: In addition to those characters, there was also the creature from the Black Lagoon, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: There was like five other characters, and I'm like, I can't even imagine how you would fit them all into that one movie.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Um I do want to say, producer Bob Dukesay, uh, he also edited this movie, he is Ryan Johnson's editor now.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: Well, he edited Last Jedi, he edited Knives Out, he like did a bunch of stuff.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Good editor.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, good editor.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, and Alan Silvestri did the music.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: Alan Davio's really good in this.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: Music's really good.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: I will say that.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Alan Davio, who was the cinematographer, this is his last movie.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: He died last April.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: Um but he was the cinematographer of ET, Color Purple, Empire of the Sun.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Like a bunch of stuff.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Bunch of stuff.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: And it's so fast.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: In the bonus features, Steven Summers goes, listen, we got Alan Davio, and I really think this is like the peak of his career right now.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, the man shot E.T.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: How?
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: What are you talking about?
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: It's fascinating.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: This movie doesn't look good.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: It uh yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Steven Summers seems to be like oblivious.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he's either oblivious to it or he's just hyphening everything up.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: He's a fascinating guy because a lot of his movies they like feel like my kind of vibe of a movie.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Where I'm like, oh yeah, Mohe movies and Van Helsing, and you get a G.I.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Joe movie in there.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: This is fun.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: And then he but he also hasn't made a movie in eight years.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: And I I want to know what the deal is because I can't really find anything out.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: I've been like looking and trying to figure it out, and I cannot figure it out.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Um he also has a very bad track record looking through this tomato.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: But it's movie like but people love the mummy movies.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: The mummy, I do I do really like the first two.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: The third one is not good, but he also didn't direct that.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: So give him a pass on that one.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: I guess that's I guess that's kind of all people like.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at the rest like I haven't seen the G.I.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Joe movies.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: I have not either, to be honest with you.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: But they don't sound good.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: And then I don't know, I don't even know what Odd Thomas is.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: Odd Thomas.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: And that was the last thing he'd made.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Odd Thomas.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: According to uh IMDB, it got held up afterwards because there were like litigation involved with the production company.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: And then I guess they just like dumped it on Netflix eventually.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: Um yeah.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: It's fascinating.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: It's fascinating.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: What is Van Helsing the London Assignment?
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, baby.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: Alright, so Van Helsing the London Assignment was a it was a prequel anime that I that I had on DVD.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: It came out around the same time as the movie.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: I must still have it in Connecticut.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: Uh starring Hugh Jackman and Robbie Coltrane as Mr.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Hyde.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Um I think I watched it once.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: I didn't really I was not like an anime kid, so it was like not my thing.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Why is it anime?
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: It's a great question.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: You're asking so many good questions.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Um it's 33 minutes long.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: I guess Kate Beckins.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow, oh, wow.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Hang on.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Hang on.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: What have we found?
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: Kate Beckinsdale is in it.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: Get ready.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: Look him in the eyes when I say this.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: As Queen Victoria.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Wild.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: Uh Dwight Schultz.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: Dwight Schultz from the A-Team, like the 80s show, The A-Team.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: He plays Dr.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Jekyll and Jack the Ripper.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: John DiMaggio?
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: John DiMaggio, great uh great Elise, who's on uh she's been on Lucas before Tress McNeely.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: You got like a ton of like good uh voice actors in it.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: I want to rewatch this now.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have to look this up.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Are they implying?
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: I can't tell if they're because Dwight Schultz and Robbie Coltrane are both credited as Dr.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Jekyll, Mr.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Hyde, like separately, but then they're both credited as Jack the Ripper, and I want to know if they are implying that Dr.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: Jekyll and Mr.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: Hyde is also Jack the Ripper.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: Oh I love that.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: On on Ron Tomatoes, they've got Robbie Coltrane listed as Mr.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Hyde, they got Dwight Schultz listed as Dr.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Jekyll, and they got John DiMaggio listed as Coachman.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: And there is no Jack the Ripper listed.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, Wikipedia has it as Jack the Ripper, that's why I am.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: This is all over the place.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fascinating.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: It was it's a good thing.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: Apparently it was released on streaming on November 18th last year.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: It it came out four days after the movie came out.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Perfect timing.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Now everyone's seen the movie, they can go and watch the anime.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: The prequel anime.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: I but I want to be clear, I was all in on it.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: I was like, yes, give me the anime, yes, give me the book, yes, give me the soundtrack, you know.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: It does have a better rating than the movie.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: Well, good for them.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: What does it have?
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: It's got fifty 53%.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: And 94% of Google users liked it as well.
- 38:37unknown: Okay.
- 38:37unknown: Sure.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: Let's see if there's any uh trivia.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: Hang on one second.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: Uh no, nothing really good.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: It's just like replies that wrong.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: There's no memory of this ever being existing.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh my gosh.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: Can I read can I read the user review for Van Helsing the London assignment on IMDb?
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: Please.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: Alright, this is by Katie Lois321, 10 stars, May 15th, 2005.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: I gave Van Helsing a rate of 10.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Katie and I live in Hull.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: All I wanted to say was that I was totally love Van Helsing the film, especially with Hugh Jackman in it.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: He is so fit and it just wouldn't be right without him in it.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: I have rated this film a 10 because I just love it.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: I have the film, the book, and the PS2 game.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: My bedroom is full of Hugh Jackman and Van Helsing posters.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: You can't even see my walls.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: I am one of Hugh's best fans.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: And Anna out of the film is also great.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: I think she's really pretty, and I wish I could meet them all.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: That would be fantastic.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: I can't go see them because I am only thirteen, and if I were an adult, I would go all over just to see them.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: I love the film Van Helsing.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: I can't stop talking about it at school and my friends get sick of me.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: My computer is full of it.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: All you can see when you open my file is Hugh Jackman or Anna, or sometimes both of them.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: At school on my computer as well, I have loads of photos of them.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: I get more and more of them when I go on the internet at school.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: That's only when we are allowed on it.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: I am totally mad about Hugh, and I think nearly everyone in my family and my mates know as well.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: They say I'm mad.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: Because they just don't like him, but then I say that it's my life and nobody can change it.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: But they still go on about it at me saying Oh oh yeah.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: But they still go on out on it, but they still go on about it at me saying he's ugly and stuff, so I just ignore them and say, I love him, and it doesn't matter if they don't love him, I do.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: But they say I'm mad, and I'm mad about him.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Nobody can change my feelings for him, and nobody can put off put me off him either.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: So it's going to be like this forever.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: But I'm stopping talking about myself and talking about the film.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: I love it when he and Anna are together and he kisses her and she kisses him, and I like his voice in it too.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: I think it makes him sound even sexier than he is now.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: And he looks fit in long hair and leather suit and jackets.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: I just love the film.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: If I named all the parts I like in the story, a person who's reading this would be there all day and night.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: But I love this film because of the man and the women.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: But I also love this film because I love action romance horror and I love people who are in it.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: But I also love this film because when things happen in the film, when I want them to, that is great too.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: But the ending is very sad, and I would always remember that too.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: But she should have stayed alive.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: I think then there could have been a Van Helsing 2 out with a different monster in it.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: Like the screaming womans who scream so loud they killed a human.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: That would be a good but if it did come out again, it would have to have Anna in it and the same person, otherwise it wouldn't be right, instead of Dracula.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: But all of the film is really good overall, that is.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: But this is the best film I ever saw because normally horrors are scary, but I don't think this is scary horror, and that's okay, because most girls like me like horrors like this.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: I think Hugh is a great man and actor, and this is but he is great anyways, so it doesn't matter.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: He can't do anything wrong, he just the best.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: And the same goes to Kate, Anna.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: She's beautiful and the best and a great actress.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: Hugh and Kate make a good acting couple in the film.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at Hugh on the computer now, at his pictures on the internet, and Anna, they both look great in the film together.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: It is a great film with them in it too.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: If they were not in it, it would not really be a film.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: If I have already said that, just ignore.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: I am saying stuff weird today for some strange reason.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: But I think the film is absolutely great.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: When I was talking about how my friends go on at me, my family does too.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: They get on my nerves to my mom and dad do anyway, say, saying, take your posters off the walls.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: You can't see them, but I don't, so I think my mom and dad have given up.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: But my sis goes on at me saying, How could you love him?
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: He's a right ugly Katie, but I ignore her.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: She makes it worse than my mates, but I do not listen to them when they talk to me in that subject like that.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: But the person that got to me to the film Van Helsing is my English teacher because we watched the film loads of times in the class, and I just started loving it the first time I saw it.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: Sir doesn't know about me liking him, but he probably gets to know tomorrow.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: My friends can't keep secrets at all, especially when it's about love and girl stuff like that.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: But if it is really private, they won't stay out, but they will this time.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: But when I was talking about Van Helsing 2 and how I make up is because I write stories about things, I imagine, but when I go to bed, that's what gives me ideas because when I sleep I dream and I get ideas from my dreams, and I have started writing a story about Van Helsing 2, I think it's gonna be great, so I'm giving it a rate of 10, which is excellent.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: Now, Patrick.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: It was when I looked at it for the first time, I didn't think it was gonna be that long, and I should have kept scrolling to see how long it was gonna be.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: I was gonna ask, do you remember writing that review?
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: My here's why here okay, okay, okay.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: I was just mad at my parents because they wouldn't let me talk about it anymore, okay?
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: And I'm mad that we're bringing it up again.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Your secret identity is Katie from Hull.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, Katie from Hull.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: I just want to feel I'm totally in.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Love with the film Van Helsing, especially with you, Jackman, in it.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: That was I have no words for that.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: That was something.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: I do want to say I thought of two things that I wanted to talk about while I was reading it, and I forget both of them.
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: Because it was so long.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: I just ended up just like blanking completely.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh, one of the things I did want to talk about, this one's what it was.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: It was at the end when she dies.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: This movie, and I tweeted about this earlier today, I tweeted out a video.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: This movie and Return of the Jedi have the same ending.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: This movie ends with him lighting Anna on fire, looking up into the sky, seeing her force ghost.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: Carl comes over, puts his hand on his shoulder, and then it cuts to the with written director by Steven Summers.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: It's exactly the same thing as Return of the Jedi.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: But so much worse somehow.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: People can go check it out on my Twitter.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: I tweeted out a video where I recut it with the uh ending music to Return of the Jedi.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: And then I also and then I also did a video of them side by side next to each other synced up so you could see the exact shots.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Um I uh I shot something with Hugh Jackman like two years ago.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: It was an interview for a Marvel show.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: Um, that's right, because you you used to work at Marvel, didn't you?
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Or you still do, I don't know.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: I still do, baby.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Still do.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: Um It was this show uh with Joe Cassada, who used to be the editor in chief at Marvel, and it was like him interviewing people.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: Uh and one of the people was Hugh Jackman, and I was like the talent person for the day, so I was like his guy for the whole day.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: He was very nice, you know.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: We had him for a few hours and stuff.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: And as we were leaving, we went over to the elevator and we were getting in the elevator, and I was like, Oh, damn it.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: And Hugh goes, What?
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: What's wrong?
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: And it was just me and him.
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: He goes, What's wrong?
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: And I said, They didn't ask any of the Van Helsing questions I asked him before.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: And he thought it was so funny, and it made me so happy.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Did you get into did you get to ask him anything?
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: Uh I mean, I don't know what I would have asked him.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: Uh I didn't really.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: He he laughed and I was like, let's leave it at that.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: That was that's what I wanted out of that.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: Um, did you know that they left the Transylvanian town set up after the movie?
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: No.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: Because they said this is too good, we can't tear it down, and in case we do a sequel, we want to have this set still up.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: And I cannot tell if it is still up or not.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: Uh, but according to stuff.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: Um, according to a lot of stuff, it was up for a very long time.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: I can't imagine that the place would like the town were too happy with that.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: I'm hang on, I found a oh, the site has since been redeveloped according to movilocations.com.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: But it according to IMDB, it was up for a very long time because they were gonna do a TV show about that Transylvanian town.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: They eventually did a Van Helsing TV show, but it was like I've just found that out for the first time.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: I didn't know I had no idea.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: And it's four series.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: Four seasons.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Um renewed sci-fi have just renewed it for a fifth and final season, which is scheduled to premiere April 16th.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Good for them.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: Good for them.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: The timing of that.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: I will say, I would be lying to you if I didn't say that I had an eBay alert set up for Van Helsing stuff.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: Uh because I really I like really want a shirt.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: I like really want a good t-shirt that says it.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, and everything that comes up is from the TV show, and it's always a bummer where I'm like, oh come on, that's not what I want.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: There must be so much coming up for that as well.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: There was there's a lot of like prop stuff they're selling, and it's like never.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: I every time I get excited, and then I'm like, no, never mind.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: I have a feeling that one day you're gonna get his hat.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: Oh man.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: There was there was a auction because I like watching like prop auctions online just to like see what gets sold.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: And they were selling the uh crossbow.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, I'll bid on this, and then it like instantly went to like six thousand dollars, and I was like, no, I'm not I'm not doing that much.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, what's the most you would spend on a prop from Ben Helsick?
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: It depends what the prop is.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: You know, if it's the hat or the crossbow, like maybe I'd go up to like a grand or you know, maybe a little bit more than that, but like uh depends what it is.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Just the the uh bolts from Frankenstein's monster.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Oh boy, give it to me.
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: I want to be clear, this is the most I've ever talked about Van Helsing in one sitting, and it's making me so happy.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: I'm glad.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: This is the most I've ever talked about Van Helsing, and I'm enjoying it, but I didn't enjoy the movie.
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: Great, and that's okay.
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: Listen, you don't need to.
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: No, not everyone needs to enjoy the same stuff, okay?
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: No, that's so that's exactly it.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: No everyone needs to enjoy the same thing, but also like if you do enjoy something, yeah, that do it doesn't mean uh because you if you enjoy it, is it bad?
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: No, not necessarily.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: If you're enjoying it, that doesn't mean it's bad.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: And I think I think more people can acknowledge like I feel like people I hate the term guilty pleasure.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: Because a lot of people will use uh, you know, like, ooh, ooh, uh, you know, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is my guilty pleasure.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: And it's like, well no, you just like the show.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: You just like it, yeah.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: Who cares?
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: You can say that it's bad, but like still enjoy it.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: You shouldn't be like, for certain reasons that aren't like story or something.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: Exactly, exactly.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Uh that being said, if they made five of these movies, I would have loved all of them.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: What what were your thoughts on the on the reboot then that they were trying to do?
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: The Dark Universe stuff?
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, I saw the mummy long after, like once it was on like HBO Max or so or HBO Go.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: So you had no uh oh yeah, I guess you had like you weren't familiar with the mummy stuff anyway, really.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: I didn't care about the mummy stuff, yeah.
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: And I think by the time it came out and everyone was like, oh, it's not good.
- 50:33SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh, then I'm uh Sorry in your head.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was like, oh, clearly this is not going to uh keep going.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: And I didn't I don't know.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: I I once they were like, oh, it's all it's gonna be action heavy, and we're gonna like anytime someone sets out to make an interconnected universe, it never works.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: Like it's worked so few times, and they're usually not because people have set out to make it, it's usually because like it just organically happened, and that's fun, and I like that.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: But if you're like we're already planning our next nine movies and they're all gonna converge into this one thing, it's like uh I don't know.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: Like you can try, but it's not gonna happen.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: Um, so I wasn't like super jazzed about it going in.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: I remember the cast coming out and like seeing that cast of like everything about that should be exciting, but it's not whatsoever.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Nobody was excited for it.
- 51:38unknown: Yeah.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: I don't remember anyone, yeah.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: No, no, no one was.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, which was a bummer because like I the thing I liked about those old movies is not something that you can put into a movie today.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Like, I like that they were slow and I like that it was all makeup stuff.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: Do you know which one I actually really did like was the Invisible Man movie that came out last year.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: I just haven't seen that.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: It's really I heard it's really good.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: I've heard really good things about it.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: I would recommend you watching it because it's really good and it's creepy and scary, and like it's not you know, a bunch of like shootouts and like explosions and stuff like that.
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: Like Van Hills.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, yeah, yeah.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: Listen, you win, okay?
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: You win.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I just had to bring it up.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: Oh boy.
- 52:30SPEAKER_00: Um, it's really fun, and it's like a s it feels small and like in a way that a lot of those movies did because they were all shot on like two stages on the universal backlot, you know?
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: Like not, you know, uh I don't know.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: But that brings like a like a fun like camp energy to them, I feel like that's for sure.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: I mean they're it's um but that movie's fun.
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: And I and I wish that they would make or I wish that they had made those Dark Universe movies more like that, which maybe Blumhouse will go and make more stuff like that, it feels like.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: But then when they announce that then they announce that they're doing like a Wolfman movie with Ryan Gosling, and I'm like, Oh no, I don't we don't need that, guys.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be a lot.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's gonna be a lot.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a lot.
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a lot.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be like, yeah, just him mug into the camera a lot.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure.
- 53:30SPEAKER_00: But also, if you're gonna do that, I want him like in wolf makeup.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: I don't want you to like it's not it's not gonna be.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be CGI.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: I know, I know.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: But that's what these Dark Universe movies would have been as well.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: I know, and that's why I'm sort of okay with it not happening.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:49SPEAKER_01: Which of which of them would you have been most excited for out of those?
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: Genuinely, genuinely, I think it would have been the Angelina Jolie Bride of Frankenstein.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: See, she's not even in this picture.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: So I didn't even know she was in that.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: She was gonna be because there was confirmed titles.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, these are crazy.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: These are nuts.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: Con the films that came out, and uh uh the Dark Universe monster wiki is counting Invisible Man as part of the Dark Universe.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: I don't agree with that.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: Confirmed titles.
- 54:27SPEAKER_01: Unless it's counting Invisible Man, the uh the version they were gonna do with Johnny Depp.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, is that what this is?
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: No, they are counting, they are counting this Elizabeth Moss one.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: I don't agree with it.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: It's confirm titles, Bride of Frankenstein, Dark Army, which I think is like the Avengers one where like everyone comes together.
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: Uh Renfield, who is like Dracula's weird assistant who like eats bugs, like not a character you can't wait for that one.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not a not a character you base a movie around.
- 54:59SPEAKER_00: The Invisible Woman, the Monster Mash, which I'm if you want to make a Monster Mash movie, I'm fine with it.
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: Uh Frankenstein, something called Little Monsters, which again if it's but Young Avengers.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's Young Avengers or the Muppet Babies, and I'm fine with either of those.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: Um Creature from the Black Lagoon, a Van Helsing movie, The Wolfman, Dracula, Fan of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Invisible Man 2, and then something called the Scorpion King.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: So they planned.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean, they're counting this too.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: It's pretty so many movies in advance to plan.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: It's so many movies in advance.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: It's like off the basis of a Tom Cruise Mummy movie.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: But the um Yeah, the the Bride of Ryanstein was gonna be directed by Bill Condon.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: Javier Bardem was gonna be the monster.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: Uh uh and I'm kind of okay with that.
- 56:01unknown: Yeah.
- 56:02unknown: Yeah.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: Bill Condon, Javier Bardem, and Angelina Jodi, I'm okay with that.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: Wait, hang on.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: On February tw on February 11th, 2020, Amy Pascal, in her interview with Variety, stated that she and John Krasinski would be interested in greenlighting it, an a reimagination of Brida Frankenstein, and that she hopes that David Kepp and Sam Raimi would take part in the project.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: What?
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: That's just a mad lib.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: That's what that was.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: What is any of that?
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: Like what what are they saying for him to be in it?
- 56:39SPEAKER_00: Are they saying that he was maybe maybe he's like Dr.
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: Frankenstein?
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: And then Kep is writing with Raimi directing, maybe?
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: I hate that.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: I don't want to see that.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: I'll take a Raimi.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: If Raimi wants to direct a monster.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: Ramey would be fine.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: Raimi's the only thing that's fine out of all of that.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean Kep is, you know.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Kep is hit and miss.
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: Kep's what it is, yeah.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: Fascinating.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: That's so strange.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: Uh this whole I really wonder what they were gonna do with like the other Van Helsing movies, though, as well.
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: Like, do you know do you know anything beyond like you know so many interviews about all of this?
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: Like you you must have heard what they were gonna do.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: You know, I don't know.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: I really want to get Bob uh Dukse, the editor on George Lucas, because you know he worked on um Last Jedi.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: George Lucas Talk Show.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: We'll talk about that later.
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: Um and that I will definitely have you try have you reached out to him?
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: I haven't.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: He followed me on Twitter last night because I tagged him about Van Helsing.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: Oh man, I really hope you get him now.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: I I think I I think I can.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: I think you can get him, yeah.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: I think I can.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: You've had Whoofy Goldberg on there.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: I think you can get him.
- 57:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, that's the hope.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: Uh uh.
- 58:00SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I don't I don't know anything else about it looks like the screenplay for Van Helsing has been written.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Like there's like guys who are credited as writing the screenplay for the for the reboot one.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: Who's credited?
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: John Oh god, I always say his name wrong.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: John Spates, who wrote like he wrote um Prometheus.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: And a bunch of stuff.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: He wrote He's a writer on Doctor Strange.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: He screen screen story by Oh, he wrote Dune.
- 58:38SPEAKER_00: He wrote Dune.
- 58:40SPEAKER_00: He wrote the George Miller.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: He wrote the George Miller just Oh no, Justice League Dark.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: That's not the George Miller one.
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know what Justice League Dark is.
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: Is it not?
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: I thought that was a George Miller one.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: That's what I thought too, but then his name is not on here.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: Oh no, it's the JJ one.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: It's the JJ one that's coming out later.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, Dune.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: His screen story on the mummy, the Tom Cruise one.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: Passengers, he wrote passengers.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: No comment.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: Oh dear.
- 59:19SPEAKER_01: Um but then this-you work with some of these people, you've gotta be careful.
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: No comment! Um but then the guy how weird.
- 59:29SPEAKER_00: The guy who actually wrote the script wrote the screenplay for Wrath of the Titans, script for Van Helsing, script for something called Luna Park, which is a the Tom Cruise Doug Lyman.
- 59:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, I think that's the space movie that they're making.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: The one that they're like shooting in space.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, the one where he's actually going into space.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: And then he wrote something called Cowboy Ninja Viking, starring Chris Pratt and Priyanka Chopra.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: Hang on.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: The plot of this movie, hang on.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: A government program turns Duncan, a man who suffers from multiple personality disorder, into a super soldier with the attributes of a cowboy, a ninja, and a Viking.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: It's a graphics novel.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: It sounds like I I think you'll appreciate this, but it sounds like Billy Merritt's book.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: It's I guess it's a graphic novel.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_00: It's being directed by Michelle McLaren, who like directed a bunch of Breaking Bad and like Walking Dead and stuff.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: Michelle McLaren's good a good one.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she is good.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: She's like uh she was a co-EP on the X-Files.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: Like, she's like Well, yeah.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: Some of the best episodes of Breaking Bad, yeah.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_00: Westworld, Leftovers, Game of Thrones, everything.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: Weird.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: I yeah.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: Um But uh but anyways, back to Van Helsing.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm just trying to think where we can go from there with Van Helsing.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: Like we we talked a lot about it, but like um so like the the Dr.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: Jekyll Mr.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: Hyde stuff is weird because that I feel like they are the most wasted out of everyone.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll say this so famous if you watch if you watch the London Adventure you get to see a lot more of him.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I agree.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: I mean he's gone immediately.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_00: Uh he's got that like five-minute scene up top, and then dead?
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: Like he kills him.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: It's a really interesting character though.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: Like I like that dynamic.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_01: And the Mr.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Hyde is voiced by Robbie Coltrade.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: In a way, this movie both feels perfect that it's a standalone, even though it seems to want sequels.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: Because it kills off so many.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: It kills off so many characters.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_01: This is the other thing.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_01: We should talk about the killing off of Kate Beckenstail's characters.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Which is wild.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: What are you doing?
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Why would you set up a love interest and then immediately kill them off?
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Immediately.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, because uh she dies, Dracula dies, right?
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: Dracula dies.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: Wolfman, I think, dies.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: Wolfman dies.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: Frankenstein does not.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: Like uh sets off sail on the ocean.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_00: He's outstanding.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_01: But Frankenstein himself dies.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: It's just a lot of characters.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's killing everyone off.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, in a lot of those universal movies, they would end with like Frankenstein's dead, and then the next one they're like, actually, he just got buried in snow.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: He's okay.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_00: Like, so I I'm sure they would have found a way.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_01: I think they would have brought people back, but I think they would have brought Kate Beckensil back somehow.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, even if they just made her the Obi-Wan Kenobi.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: Where she just like That's so bad.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_00: She just shows up in the clouds, like at the end of the movie.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: She's just like, yeah, I'll do it again.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_01: I need to I need to keep doing these kinds of movies.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: I like this.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: Hang on, I'm reading a goof.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_00: A goof in the uh IMDB plot holes.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: When Anna and Velcan are fighting the werewolf at the beginning of the film, there are about a dozen people helping them.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: Who exactly are these people and where do they disappear to for the rest of the movie when Anna could have used more of their help?
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_00: I just like that the guy the guy who's writing it's just like I just have a question.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_00: I want to put it in the back.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_01: I have a question.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: It must be wrong.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_01: It must be a goof.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, so many characters die.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_00: Which makes it feel very vampire uh brides die?
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: Brides die, yeah.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: Although he says he can like get other ones, but obviously he's dead now as well.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: I do like I do like the little vampire babies.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: The little exploding vampire babies.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, little exploding vampire babies.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: For people who have not seen this movie, and oh baby, do I highly recommend you go watch it?
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_00: It is on Paramount Plus right now.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_00: It's streaming on or no no, Peacock.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: It's streaming on Peacock.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, you've got it on Peacock.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: I've got it on Netflix here.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_00: Well, I got I got it on Blu-ray.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_00: Uh, but it is streaming on Peacock.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_01: You were the one that bought the coffee.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_01: Yes, you and Steven Summers.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: Uh there's a bunch of little little uh gross little eggs that uh Dracula has created of his children that he's trying to bring uh to talk about the plot a little bit.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: He's trying to bring his children to life using the same way that Dr.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_00: Frankenstein brought Frankenstein's monster to life.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_00: So he has to electrocute uh the monster uh in the same way in order to spread the electricity through the eggs to bring his little vampire children to life.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: Um I've never said that out loud before, but I'm glad that I didn't know.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: Um and and when they pop out, they sort of look like in uh Harry Potter in the Chamber of Secrets, the little blue fairy things that Gildroy Lockhart is fighting.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_00: Uh you know, I know how cool it is to talk about Harry Potter in 2021.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_00: I know everyone's really chill with it all.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_00: But uh they're just little, little blue, little not vampire baths, because they have like human form.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_00: Um they're cute.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_01: I guess they're funny.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're funny.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: They're fun, they're the comic relief.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_01: They may be laugh.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_00: Something else is weird.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: There is a weird comic relief uh in this as well.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it doesn't match the tone.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_00: Carl feels the most comic relief y, right?
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Carl is Carl is set up to be the comic relief, like the s the sidekick who Yeah Yeah.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: Doesn't want to be there, yeah.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: But then like he's kind of replaced once Kate Beckinsel comes into the picture.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_01: Um and then he just shows up for like assistance over from time to time.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: He's just sort of around.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_01: And like I don't know.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_01: He seems to know way more than them as well.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_01: But for no reason.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: It's because he works in the Vatican?
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's another thing.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: What is with the Vatican and the monsters?
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: Well, they also have no clue what was going on.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: They also heavily imply through this movie that Van Helsing is the Archangel Gabriel.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: Um because his name is Gabriel.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_01: I didn't put that together.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_01: I knew his name, I know they called him Gabriel.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: Uh in in Bram Stoker's Dracula, and in the old movies, Van Helsing's first name is Abraham.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: But that was because Bram Stoker, who wrote Dracula, was like, I like this character.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_00: I think he's the most respectable character in the books.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna name him Abraham because that's my name.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_00: Because Bram is short for Abraham.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_00: Well.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_00: And then I guess when Stephen Summers was writing the script, he was like, I can't have a main character in my movie be named Abraham.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_00: So he changed his name to Gabriel.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_00: That is according.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_00: That's internet lore.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's true.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_00: I've also heard that they changed it so that uh uh they would like own the rights to the character and it wouldn't revert back to the Stoker uh estate, I guess.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, he he works though the Stoker estate would ever care.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: He works for the church, I guess.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_00: He's like the church, like want to collect monsters to like study them and make sure they're not hu like abominations on the humans on Earth.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because that that's the other thing.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: They want to collect the monster, uh Frankensized monster as well, which he doesn't find out until later.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because Carl knows the whole time.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because they think it goes against God, they're like, he shouldn't be bringing back this, you know.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_00: They're c those those church people are crazy, you know?
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_00: They're nuts.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, but uh when he's calling Gabriel, it's like it feels it felt like an important moment, but I had no clue what was going on.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't put that together.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then he but because there's then there's also the whole stuff where he like can't remember his past.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: And like Dracula's like, Oh, we meet again, it's so good to see you.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: And he's like, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_00: And they just like keep implying that like he's like an immortal being who like always hunts you know monsters and stuff like that.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, now hang on.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_00: Now I'm on the Van Helsing wiki.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_00: There is a Van Helsing specific wiki, and in the biography section, I just want to get this out, I want to say this out loud.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: In the biography section for Gabriel Van Helsing, the character this is not as long as the uh as the other thing I promise.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_00: It's like five sentences.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_00: The character has lost his memory and has only clues to his history and true identity.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_00: Throughout the film, Van Helsing, numerous references are made to the Archangel Gabriel, the left hand of God, and the fact that Van Helsing has nightmares about horrific battle scenes throughout history that hint at a supernatural lifespan.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_00: In the film, they mention to his friar sidekick Carl that he remembers a battle with the Romans in the year 72 AD.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_00: At the end of the film, Count Dracula claims that it was a younger Van Helsing who murdered him centuries before, thus beginning the cycle which resulted in Dracula becoming a vampire.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_00: So interesting.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_01: So it's all Van Helsing's fault in the first place.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_00: It's all Van Helsing's fault.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_00: What a bummer.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: So now he no wonder he wants to like stop it all.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_01: If only they'd made that clearer in the movie.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're just trying to pack so many things into this movie.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: They are.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, we've pretty much talked about through.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_01: I feel like everything that can be talked about with this movie, like I don't know what else to say about it, really.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_00: That's what you think.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_00: I could keep going for hours.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_00: For hours.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, tell me, tell me something interesting then that you want it that you've been waiting to tell me.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_00: Um oh, we could talk about how here's what we can talk about.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_00: When the werewolf, the wolfman, is turning into the wolf man, his skin breaks off, revealing it.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_00: Revealing the hair underneath, but then when he turns back into a man, the hair breaks off, and there's skin underneath that.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_01: It's I know it breaks off in the first place.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't know.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_00: But then he like he rips off the hair and this skin underneath, and I'm like, how many levels, how many layers of this are there?
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_00: Also, it feels like they keep hitting full moons.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_00: Because he keeps brilliant to away.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of full moons.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: That's what happens in Transylvania.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_01: Or there's just like massive time jumps.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_00: It's yeah.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_00: I yeah, I don't know.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_01: This movie has no logic, but it asks you to just kind of like go along with it.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_01: I think just accept whatever it is.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_01: I'm okay with that.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_00: I think I I'm also something that I've realized about myself.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_00: I know there's a lot of people out there who will be like, This is an example.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_00: They'll be like, oh, I don't like the last season of Lost.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_00: So I pretend like it doesn't happen.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_00: Like I pretend like that didn't happen, I just write it off.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_00: And in my head, I'm like, well, no, that's what happened.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_00: And I just accept stuff no matter how crazy it is.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_00: And I think that's why watching movies for me is a lot easier.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_00: Because I'm just like, well, that's what's happening here.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_00: I'm watching it in front of me.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_00: I realize that that's even though it doesn't make sense, like it happened, so it must make sense.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_01: That's what they've written into it.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_01: So this is what's happening.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_00: I trust it.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_00: I trust it.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_00: I guess that's all I want to talk about.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_00: There's more, but like go on, go on.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_01: If you want to.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: You don't have to do it.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_01: If you've got more stuff you want to say, I want to hear it.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think of something.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, um, this is the first movie to use uh shoot, what's it called?
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_00: Massive?
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_00: I think it's called Massive, which is a computer program that was developed for Lord of the Rings.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_00: So this is the first outside of Lord of the Rings.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_01: That's the one fact I read.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_00: It's for it was for crowd scenes.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_00: So in Lord of the Rings, when you're watching like battle scenes, all of those characters have like their own AI mind of their own, so they can like fight on their own without people having to program it.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_00: Uh so a lot of times when you see crowd scenes, I think it was used a lot in the opening uh with like the villagers who were coming after him with like the pitchforks and stuff.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I th I believe those are all just like AI computer characters.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, because that looks fine.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't use them like Yeah.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean they I don't know.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_01: Why maybe that's where the money went.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_00: I always find it fascinating to watch bonus features of big budget movies that don't necessarily work because everyone in them is so excited and so like, we're really doing something cool here, and here's all the special effects that we're working on.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_00: I was telling my roommate, I remember, and I couldn't find it on the Blu-ray, so maybe I'm imagining it, but I don't think I am.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_00: There's the scene in the town square with the cow and the vampire bride like swoops in, grabs the cow, and flies away.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_00: And I remember watching some bonus feature for this movie where they like went frame by frame where they were like, now this is a real cow, you're seeing a real cow right here, and now right here it's CG.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_00: Right here it switches over, and they were just so excited about it.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_00: And I was like, that's great, good for them for being like so into this.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't know.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_00: I just think it's fascinating.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do find that fascinating as well.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_01: And I was gonna say, like, it makes me wonder like when because I've heard people say they know when when they're starring in a bad movie when it's like being filmed, they know it's a bad movie.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_01: So I I do wonder like if it's for the camera or if it's like they are actually excited.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean sometimes but sometimes like I've worked on a bunch of stuff that's like you think is gonna be good, and then it comes out and you're like, I have I have to.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, interesting, okay.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_00: Um sometimes you could and sometimes you're like, oh, this is gonna be bad, and then it comes out, and you're like, oh never mind, they figured it out.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: Um I think it's probably impressive when you're working on something like this that's so big budget with like big sets and stuff like that.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_00: You're like, oh, this is cool, we're really here.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_01: And then it's probably pretty exciting for huge Actman.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_00: Sure, and it's early in his career where like That's what I mean, yeah.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he had done you know, X-Men was big, but like this this feels the first X-Men is not huge.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: Like, it's not like a big scale movie.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_01: No uh whereas this feels like a big scale movie, like And this is his movie as well, like so even though you know Wolverine is the big character in the X-Men movie, like for sure.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_01: Uh it's not his movie as such.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_01: So so it's probably like, yeah, this is exciting, I get to lead a movie now.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_00: Um another fun fact I want to bring up just reading off of HDB.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_00: Dr.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_00: Frankenstein's lab was equipped with antique medical equipment purchased on eBay.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_01: Well, there you go.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_01: You can make a remake now.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_01: You can make your own version.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_01: This movie is wild.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: It's wild.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: It's wild.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_00: I'm glad I made you watch it.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: Glad you picked it.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: I would never have thought of it as well.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_01: I've never I hadn't thought of it since I saw it the first time.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_00: I'm really glad.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_01: But uh unless you have anything else, we can move on to the final segment.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_00: No, let's move on to the final segment.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: So what is your reverse of this, which is a I know you're gonna have to be careful because you work in the industry and everything, but like do you have a movie that's like the reverse of this, which is a movie that everyone loves and is universally praised by critics that you think is actually a bad movie?
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_00: Now, this is something I've been having a lot of trouble with this, because I've been thinking about this a lot.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_00: And I I mean a lot of movies that I don't like, it's because I think they're boring.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_00: Which doesn't necessarily mean I don't like it.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_00: I just have a bad attention span.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_00: And if a movie is not uh if it's like a drama or if it's like not doing much in it because that's what the movie is meant to be, it just doesn't capture me as much.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_00: Um but then there's also movies like I don't love like Wally, you know?
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at a list right now of like the best movies ever made.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_00: Or like Blazing Saddles.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_00: I don't love Blazing Saddles.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_00: It was just never my thing.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_00: I never really thought it was funny.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_00: I love Mel Brooks.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_01: Um, you love Mel Brooks as well, and you don't like Blazing Saddles.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_00: I general genuinely.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_00: That's so interesting.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_00: I think Blazing Saddles is my least favorite Mel Brooks movie.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I might know Young Frankenstein is my favorite, but it's right up there.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: Of course, Young Frankenstein's your favorite.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_00: What are we even doing here?
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_00: Uh I mean, this is an easy one.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_00: Avatar, not for me.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_00: Umatar is terrible.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_00: And I'll give you one more.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_00: Raging Bull, not for me.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_01: Although I get it.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_01: Sorry, guys.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_01: I love Raging Bull, but I do get it.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_01: Avatar is just a bad movie.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_01: But that was picked last week, literally.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_00: I believe that.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_00: That's why I was that was like my go-to in my head, and then I was like, I'm sure everyone says that, so I'm just not going to.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_01: It was picked for the first time last week.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_01: In like 40 episodes.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_00: Wow, wow, wow.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_00: Well, there you go.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's uh there's some movies that people will love, and I wish I wish I liked it, but it's just not if I get distracted and get bored and like end up on my phone, I will usually not like that movie as much just because like I zoned out, you know?
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_01: Do you did you like so do you zone out for like just long movies, or is it is it just like it's just because it's slow?
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_00: Usually slow movies, slow movies just don't long movies.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_00: I'm fine.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_00: Like we watched we watched this last night and I was fine.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_00: I've I've you know endgame, I'm fine with there's like a lot of long movies that I'm like okay with.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_00: Lord of the Rings, I'm not like a huge Lord of the Rings guy.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_00: I respect Lord of the Rings um because I like all the bonus features stuff, like seeing how they make it.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_00: But seeing how they make it, I'm like, oh, this is cool.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_00: I respect you, but I don't necessarily like you.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_01: That's how it's I bet your favorite of the Lord of the Rings is the two towers, then.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_00: Hello.
- 1:19:29unknown: Yeah.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's I don't know.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_00: I I I wish I liked them more than I did.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_00: They just don't I try to read all of them.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_00: I I have not read Return of the King, but I read the rest of them during quarantine.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_00: And I would read I would read the book and then watch the movie and then watch all the bonus features, and then read the next book and then watch the movie and then watch all the bonus features, and I got all the way to the Return of the King, and I just haven't picked it up, and it's been like six months, and I need to.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_01: Did you watch The Hobbit as well and read The Hobbit?
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_00: Did I watch all three Hobbits and all three bonus all like 27 hours of bonus features on them?
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, those are bad movies.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_00: I know, I know.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_01: Those are boring.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_00: I will say I agree.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_01: They don't even need to be one three-hour movie.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_01: Do you want to settle on a specific movie?
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's settle on the movie.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_00: Um I will say.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say Lord of the Rings.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna can I stick on Lord of the Rings just as a whole?
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I will say that.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_01: Because they are one complete thing, really.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's one it's one story.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_00: We'll stick on it.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit cheating, but um I respect them, I just don't like them.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_01: What so what do you not like about them other than that they're you find them a little bit boring?
- 1:20:49SPEAKER_01: What do you find boring about them, I guess?
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not really a fantasy guy.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm not really a medieval guy.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_00: That's those are the two things that I just don't like.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_00: I've never watched Game of Thrones, because I like if your thing has swords and chainmail, I kinda don't care.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_00: Like if we're dealing with like knights and stuff, I sorta don't care.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_01: Um That's kind of I'm kind of the same usually, but I do like I do like Lord of the Rings, I do like Game of Thrones.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_00: Sure, sure, sure.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_01: For the most part.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_00: I just um I it's just not my vibe.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't find them fun.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_00: And if I'm watching a movie, I usually want to have fun.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_00: Like I I don't watch a lot of like period dramas or stuff like that because I don't I don't find them exciting or or or funny or fun or just an enjoyable time.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_00: Um yeah.
- 1:21:51SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna get a lot of hate.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_01: You like this as well then?
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_01: Because it's so I agree.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_00: This feels kind of But it's not like not like 1400s, you know?
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_00: And they're trying to make it feel like today.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_00: So even though I don't like that they're like making it James Bondy, it helps it for me.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_00: It helps it for me.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I completely get what you what you're saying as well.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_01: I I feel like I'm very similar, similarly minded as well.
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_01: With this with with what you're talking about.
- 1:22:21SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_01: So I know what you're saying, and it is hard to describe.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:22:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know, I don't know what it is, but uh I only watched I watched Lord of the Rings when they came out.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_01: I do really like them.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_01: Um but it's not something I would have gone out my way to watch specifically.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_01: I was more like taken to go see them, and then like Game of Thrones only watched it because it was so talked about.
- 1:22:43unknown: Yeah.
- 1:22:44SPEAKER_01: I was like, yeah, this is fine.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_01: And this and it got exciting and then it got boring.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_00: It just never seemed like my thing, so I just always avoided it.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_00: Even though there's a lot of people in it I like.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: And I book I for a little while my job was to book conventions, like book actors or people from certain things to come appear at conventions, and I booked a Game of Thrones convention, having never seen or read Game of Thrones.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_01: Do you want to hear something funny, actually?
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_01: The last time I saw you in person, like because I've seen you in person before, okay, UCB.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_01: And I was there um to go watch something, and I sat down and you you came in and sat down right in front of me, the entire cast of Stranger Things.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes, yes, yes, sure.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_00: Yes, that was a that was like, wait, what is going on?
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, my life is weird sometimes.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_00: Um uh yeah, that was like a herald night, wasn't it?
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_01: I don't remember because I saw so many shows because I was there for like a couple of weeks or whatever.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_01: I saw so many shows.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_01: I don't remember why it was.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_00: I want to say, I want to say it was a Herald night.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_01: It would make sense it'd be a Harold night.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_00: Like two hours before that show, I've been trying to get this is a story I've never told anywhere.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_00: You're getting a little sluicey here.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_00: I've been trying to get Finn Wolfard from Stranger Things to do Askat monologues, which was a show at UCB that I booked uh for the people who are listening who don't know, where it's like uh famous people would come in and tell stories from their life, and then improvisers would do improvised scenes based off of those stories.
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_00: And Finn and I have been going back and forth on like Twitter DM, uh just like trying to figure out a time when he was in New York that we could make it work.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_00: And I got a DM being like, hey, we're doing press for Stranger Things.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_00: Uh can we go to a show tonight?
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Yeah, I guess.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_00: So I like figured it out in like two hours.
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_00: I was like going to see a movie, and I like got the DM and I'm like in the movie theater, and I'm like, Well, I guess I gotta leave the movie now.
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_00: So I like left and walked over to UCB.
- 1:24:50SPEAKER_00: And then they all showed up.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_00: It was like three of the kids, I think.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_00: And we let it boys from where it was all the boys, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:57SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, no, it was not all the boys, because it was not the one who gets is his name Noah?
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_00: I think his name's Noah.
- 1:25:04SPEAKER_00: He's the one who like gets taken to the upside down.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it was all the ones that were then yeah, all the ones that weren't taken, yeah.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:11SPEAKER_01: Um they were literally sitting like I was I was one seat behind them, and I was just like, what is going on?
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_01: I didn't even realize anyone was coming in.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, they all showed up and none of the people doing the show knew that they were coming, and they were just backstage when everyone was walking in, and they would everyone would like walk by stage and be like, What's happening here?
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_00: Like, why are they all here?
- 1:25:34SPEAKER_00: Um It was very it was a very weird day.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_00: But that's very funny that you were there for that.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that was that was very a very funny day from what I remember.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_01: Because I I'd come from from what I remember, I'd come from the MOMA, I think.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_01: I'd been at the MOMA and just left there, gone to that and seen the entire cast of Stranger Things there, and then looked and then like saw some press pictures from what we'd left at the MOMA, and um it was the entire cast of the the the dead what was it, the dead don't die?
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_01: Oh sure, the Jim Jar Movie, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so they had just been like we got kicked out of the MoMA because they were coming there to do the premiere.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_00: That's really funny.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_00: That's really funny.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_00: So it was just a weird day of like sit like running into New York, baby, New York, that's how it is.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_00: That's how it was.
- 1:26:27SPEAKER_01: I I live in London and I don't see that happening.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_01: It's so weird.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_00: That's really funny.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_00: That's really funny.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_00: What a dumb.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is yeah.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_01: This has been great.

- 1:27:20SPEAKER_01: Animal Animal Practice, yeah.
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but did you beat that?
- 1:27:23SPEAKER_00: Well, the animal practice account, the animal practice account got hacked.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_00: And then they and then they took it down.

- 1:28:35SPEAKER_01: And sometimes you'll do extra long episodes as well.
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_00: Sometimes, yeah.
- 1:28:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, listen, I usually try to avoid that because it turns people off.
