[upbeat rock music] Good evening, good ladies and gentlemen. Good evening.
0:17
Good evening and welcome to Easy's Playhouse. It is, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling number 51. 51. For this- It's almost as old as us. It's March 13th, isn't it? Friday the 13th. Why, yes it is. Friday the 13th.
0:31
It's Friday the 13th. Whoa. Yeah. For you fine folk. And you got back from the Schlack show. That was a great show, huh? It was a freaking awesome show. All right. I can't believe it.
0:40
See, this makes me feel like I'm, I've gone to the show even though I haven't bought the ticket for the show yet. Oh, interesting. Being that the show is in the hi- in the past tomorrow? Exactly. It, yes.
0:50
[laughs] I'm, I'm r- really gonna play with this timeline. [laughs] Ladies and gentlemen- Welcome... the timeline. La, la, la, la, la, la. Well, uh, weather's better for cycling around town. Uh-huh. Wind has died down.
1:04
Wind has died down. Yeah, it was pretty, pretty brisk l- middle of last week. Brisk. Full of free hollies. Even if it was nice out, it kinda knocked a, a good 10 down. It, it can, yeah. It was like, "Uh-huh." You know?
1:14
Mm-hmm. Been nice to have that electric bike there all up and ready to go into that- Yeah, goodness... 25 mile an hour headwind. Yeah, exactly. That would be fun to test into a 25 mile an hour headwind.
1:22
[laughs] We'll, we'll get a chance to do that. Yeah. No, it's getting... It's time to test it because it's, it's actually up and running.
1:27
Because if you didn't know that, people, we've built the first Zeis electric that we're gonna be- I get it. It's, it's, it's in, it's pretty close. I think we might- It's, it's-...
1:37
change the front, the motor, but boy is that thing- It's torquey. [laughs] It's torquey. Might, might be just a little overkill. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] It's, it's a, it... Whoa.
1:48
Uh, it is the Crystal 8 H whatever 35 series something something if you people are electric bike folks. It's a demon- With a 52 volt battery. It's a demon and a half. Yeah.
2:01
I think, uh, it's fun, but I, I don't, I don't think I'd gas that thing in a turn on a, on a gravel road. [laughs] No. Well, you could, but you're probably gonna fall. [laughs] Maybe.
2:10
Greg and I tested it last night after getting everything put together and whoa, whoa.
2:16
My eyes were watering, and I was foolish enough to not be wearing a helmet or have any lights [laughs] 'cause we finished it after dark, and yeah, y- you couldn't not get on it and throw the throttle down.
2:27
It's just- I think it's, like, a mandatory just to peg it right away. Yeah, it was. I, I got around the corner, and I threw the throttle straight down. I'm like, "Oh, my God. I'm going very fast very quickly."
2:37
[laughs] And it is scary. Yeah. I didn't, I don't think I had the pedal assist numbers figured out yet, so we weren't getting a ton of pedal assist. But boy, you can, can really gun it on that baby. Mm-hmm.
2:49
Now it's time to- It's not cheap... do some range testing and some, uh- Yeah, we're gonna be-... get the set up right and whatnot... having some fun.
2:57
You know you can get one of those things for your fat bike, too, if you really want one. Yeah, yeah. They make that for just about anything. So, uh, we did, we did, uh,
3:06
a pre-ride, kind of a course ride for the Milwaukee By Bike tour and rental that's being put together by Mr. Chris Zito and, uh, his friend Derek. [laughs] Gotta lead.
3:22
No, you have to lead with [laughs] lead with the downstairs. If it, if, if it excites any of you listener, you listener, uh, Mr. Zito should be on the show next week to talk about this venture.
3:32
Basically, it's, uh, bike, bike rental and tours of Milwaukee on Fixations'. What was that, in East Side? East Side. East Side. East Side. They're nice looking bikes.
3:42
I mean, for a single speed they're, they got a real matte finish to them. With upgraded pedals. Yeah. Always a good idea. Did a tour of the lakefront, looked at some historic spots.
3:50
It's gonna be an interesting thing for folks coming in from out of town, I think. Just in time for the EMC. And even for, even for people that are in town and don't know their own damn town. Mm-hmm. Yep.
3:58
Maybe they never rode it on a bike. Mm-hmm. I got so- What's that word? Bike-ly... I got something to say here. I got, I got a new thing 'cause- [clears throat] Make that sound. Slap that thing down. What is that thing?
4:08
[slaps beef] W- we normally have jerky, but, uh, [slaps beef] T- Tony went by Helds, and I don't know what you call this thing. It's a big ass slab of beef. You can walk in and order uncut jerky is what they called it.
4:18
All right. By the pound. It's like unshaven or- It's like a big slab of [laughs] dried meat is what it is. Well, here's the thing.
4:24
Instead of chewing it like jerky and swallowing it, just stick the pinch between your cheek and gum- Yeah... and let sit back in there. You get like an hour's worth of refreshment- Much like having gum in your mouth...
4:33
out of a small piece. It's delicious. I- It's peppery and- Yeah Smoky... take a picture of that thing. That thing is- Thank, thank you to, uh- What is it, a three, three quarter pound slab of meat? That's a... Yep.
4:41
Thank you to, uh, Bill Backus, the drummer for Testerosa, for turning us on to- Mm... said beef slab. Oh. Oh, was that that last week? Yeah, it was last week. Yeah, we ran into him at Foundation, yeah.
4:53
We ran into him, and I just said to him... He's like, he [laughs] It was funny- [laughs]... 'cause he's like, "You know who's got the best beef jerky?" And I'm like, "Who?"
4:59
And he starts talking, and, and Greg and I are both like, "Helds." [laughs] He's like, "And we're talking about Helds." Oh. He's like, "You know, you can buy slab."
5:05
I did, like, "I did not know that, but I'm going there Saturday, and I will." And- Oh, that's awesome... J.K., for the, for the picture show, could you hold this up here?
5:16
Yeah, and, uh- So you can throw this in the notes. So the first couple of bites I just kinda chewed and swallowed, but letting it, letting it marinate in your mouth, that's a good thing. It, it is. It's, you know?
5:25
Mm-hmm. I, it, it's a fine tasty slab of- Meat... dried- Just smoked meat... how do you... Yeah, smoked dried peppery meat. I reckon you'd take that on the old Chisholm Trail back in the old days.
5:36
You could definitely do that. Or I could see it on the Oak Leaf Trail if you're going camping. Probably. That'd be a good thing to do now it's getting a little nicer out there. Yeah, yeah.
5:45
It was under water partially up, uh, north of here, I guess. Yeah, I saw a picture of it. I saw some photos. It was- Uh, on, on the- On the west side, though. It- Is that what it was? Yeah. Okay.
5:54
I didn't pay total attention- Yeah... because I was busy. It, it was hard to ascertain the location of the picture. I remember seeing that. Mm-hmm. Was it north, north of Lydell?... somewhere up there.
6:06
Like there was- Well, north of the, yeah, north of Hampton Right... something like that. I, you know. Oak Leaf Talk, folks. That's a Milwaukee- Yeah. Yeah. Yeah...
6:13
Milwaukee bike trail that's- You should come to Milwaukee-... really nice... and ride that trail. It's beautiful. Um, you can ride it all over the damn place. Yeah. Right. Oh, Door County. Dork County. Dork.
6:21
[laughs] Or Do- Dorko as I like to call it. Dorko. I like that. Just follow the right way in the Grafton. Yeah.
6:28
Oh, yeah, don't miss that turn or you'll do a- If you missed it- I, I went eight miles out of my way doing a loop. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Hanging out in an industrial park. Nope. What? Where? Wait, what? County road? Okay.
6:38
Yeah. Big, hey, whoa. Oh my God, you're going like 60. Shit. No, this is not what I want. [laughs] Go back the other way. Run away. Yeah. Yeah. So that dang old coronavirus is hitting the cycling industry.
6:52
It's hitting everything. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Sea Otter's canceled or res- rescheduled until October. South by Southwest is canceled. National Bike Summit. Canceled. National Bike Summit, true that.
7:03
They're trying to figure out how to make it online. The, today they, they l- Yeah... the, the people, the big people, who I'm drawing a mental blank on right now, it labeled it a pandemic fi- CDC? WHO. WHO, thank you.
7:16
Oh, the Who? The Who or the C- The Who. The Who labeled it a pandemic now. Yeah. So it, it surpassed the N1H1 bird flu. In what respect? Killing more people and spreading faster. Huh.
7:28
Still hasn't killed as many people as the flu, though. I mean, it's just, this is still- No, your regular old flu takes more people out every year than any of these- Oh, way more people. Well, we'll see, but
7:36
sorta seems like this one's getting quite the, uh- Yeah, but China's on a decline now, so it's- Yeah. Yeah... it's run its course quickly. Maybe. That's what they're saying. Well, yeah. Oh, good point. [laughs] Hmm.
7:46
Conspiracy theorist. Okay. You know, we don't know how many are in the United States because nobody's been tested. Well- Well, it- That's right... it, uh, well, let's see. It took- Well, they found that person...
7:54
towards the end of the mid to end of January was when it came to light. Ah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So putting it into that- And the guy that brought it to light died... putting into perspective. Yeah.
8:06
We got another month of mayhem probably. Any, probably any bike race in Italy shut down. [laughs] Yeah, considering Italy's shut down. 'Cause, 'cause dang old Italy is shut down. Yeah.
8:15
Well, you know, UWM's, like, stopping, and I'm sure other universities are stopping in-person classes after the spring break because- But extended spring break... l- let's, yeah, let's think about this.
8:25
If I was a youngster and wasn't really overly concerned 'cause I'm of good health, et cetera, cheap airfare is everywhere right now. Oh, I heard that- I would go...
8:35
there were eight people on a plane this morning when, when some dude was talking about being on a flight to Washington or somewhere. Eight people. Eight total. Yeah, well, I mean, how- You can sprawl out, baby...
8:45
just, uh, bring your wipey thing and wipe off your armrest. Yeah. [laughs] You know?
8:48
So, you know, yeah, yeah, the UW system, my daughter goes to La Crosse, and so spring break is next week and they're gonna extend it another week, and then they're gonna have following that two weeks of online classes.
8:59
Yep. Which is weird 'cause she's in theater, and, uh, how do you build a set or make a costume or direct a- Virtually, baby... play? Virtually. I'm gonna virtually sew on my computer. [laughs] Yeah, exactly. You know?
9:11
Do you have one of those, uh, do you have a god dang old Singer 1945, uh- 3D Googles and stuff? Yeah, yeah. A, a Lawnmower Man. I'm virtual, sure. Yeah. Come on. Yeah. You're so cool. Hey, Tony's got a new iPhone.
9:22
We could check out the AI on that. Maybe you could, uh- Don't talk about my iPhone... got a dang old iPhone there. I do have a dang old iPhone. Do you have a golf game on there or? No, it's on my real phone.
9:31
Yeah, real phone, schmeal phone. It's my real phone. [laughs] I'm stuck with this thing. Tony's too phone and, too phone and- I'm stuck with this thing... he's, Tony's set up to go, uh,
9:41
he's set up to go work from home as long as necessary. Mm-hmm. I guess I'll- The entire company- I'm completely, uh, you know- The entire company they did this to...
9:51
until the entire company here at the shop gets sick, the shop will remain open. All right. [laughs] That's us. That would be, [laughs] that would be us. Yeah, I guess if I get sick, you could come in.
10:00
And if I get sick, well, too bad. Yeah. [laughs] Just keep working. No, yeah, it, it- You know... it is, um, there is a whole lot of... I, I went to Woodman's to go grocery shopping on Saturday- Oh, no...
10:10
'cause we were coming back from Oshkosh. People were pushing three grocery carts. Oh, yeah. One full of toilet paper, one full of water, and one full of, quote, unquote, other. I'm like, "Are you kidding me?"
10:22
The place looked like a disaster area. Oh, yeah. I mean, they had, like, stacks of toilet paper four rows into the aisle so people could buy them. I'm like, "I, I just, you guys, h- how much shitting are you gonna do?"
10:37
In your month? In your- Or two weeks... 14 days of, of having this? Yeah, either having it or perishing from it. Well, you only have it. Yeah. No, but you only have it for a couple days.
10:45
You don't have it for two full weeks. Right, and then, and then- Or we all already have it... the whole deal is you're good for a year. Yeah, that could be that, too. Right. And we just don't have it tight.
10:51
At least they're good for a year then. So are, they paid artificially inflated prices for toilet paper. Yeah, the, I think it's just a money grab from some of these companies. It's gonna be 1,000 dathers a sheet.
11:02
I tell you. I use 28 sheets per wipe. Oh. 28. Oh, this is gonna be good. I tell you what, I think this, uh, beef jerky's kinda- This bull's got a great imitation there... that's like, [laughs]
11:14
that's like a, that's a virus reduction device right there. Yeah, see? That dang old beef jerky. See? We'll all be able to live on beef jerky. Mm, man. Or any other jerky, but I prefer beef.
11:24
I like the idea of, uh, doing a northerly, like up to Harrington Beach camping ride and stopping at Bernie's on the way and- I would love that... grab it and grab it and go.
11:34
F- for the record, we're, we're digressing slightly, but if you're ever in Colorado and you're driving through the mountains and you see a guy on the side of the road selling jerky, he's gonna have a little sign up the road that says, "Jerky ahead."
11:45
Stop. The guy's got some pretty wicked jerky. [laughs] I think we've heard this story before. Have we? Ostrich, elk. We j- we just don't know the guy's name yet. Well, there's like 50 of them. Oh, okay.
11:55
There could be 500 of them, but I've probably stopped at 50 of them. [laughs] Nice. So they all do it in the mountains there? Yeah, and it's incredible. Elk, ostrich, bison, salmon.
12:06
Do they have free range ostrich there in Colorado? I, [laughs] I hope so. Somebody should let some ostrich go. [laughs] Next, you know, 30 years from now they're invasive species.
12:18
[laughs] Well, nothing hunts ostrich except humans. The most dangerous game. [bell ringing] Top of the hill. Top of the, top of the hill, folks. It's all downhill from here.
12:26
On that, on that ostrich thing, I need to run downhill to catch that guy. [bell ringing] You gonna keep running. JK- Oh, look at the pelican. Ta-da. JK went and grabbed the, uh, the brew today.
12:36
This is, this is incredible. It is tasty. What is it? Short's brew. Short's. Short's. Huma- humalupalicious. India pale ale. It's a complex hop and malt theme. From the hop plant.
12:50
Humulus- I can definitely taste the malt in there. Humulus lupulus. Wait, what the hell? A complex hop and malt theme park in your mouth. Theme park in your mouth. Yeah. A malt that comes through quite a bit.
13:00
Uh, the other roller coaster. It does. It's malty. 7.7 there. Mm-hmm. Elkahooey. Flagship. By bone. Their flagship. Mm. Short's flagship? Mm-hmm. From Elk where? Elk Harbor, Elk River, Elk Rapids, Michigan.
13:14
Elk Rapids, Michigan. Not exactly sure where that is. Across the big pond there somewhere. Well, actually it was just across the street from me. Watch out. It's gonna fly. Whoa. Hang on. That thing's gonna fly.
13:24
Well, can you assist? It looks like a dinosaur tooth. Yeah. A dinosaur tooth shaped chunk of beef. I got one here. Let me... Yeah, there. Watch your finger. I got my finger today with a s- a sta- Did you?
13:34
[laughs] With- Yeah, I was wondering what was going on there... it was with a staple. Everything's looking a little deadly. This is a packaging error, not a work on bike error. Or jerky.
13:43
I managed to get a lot of bike and part pushing done today. [laughs] Hey, shout out to, uh, um, uh... Never mind. [laughs] Let's change subjects in a minute after I've had some jerky.
13:54
I'm going to, uh, have some photos of the new version of the Old Man Mountain rack that I put through on the Chumba Ursa Major titanium fat bike over there. It looks, it looks good. Hey, I tell you what.
14:05
The best thing about it is the Robert Axel Project bought it, and they used the rear axle as the mounting point on the lower part of the rack. Pushes it way back.
14:14
Uh-huh, especially since that one has Paragon sliders, and the normal rack mount is, like, four inches further forward. Wow. That's cool. I mean, it's back where a rack ought to be right now. Mm. It's beautiful.
14:25
I tell you what. You could almost put wheelie bars on that rack and just be able to ride wheelies like Sam. Yeah. That would be an idea.
14:33
Actually, if you had long enough extenders, you could just drag the rack on the ground. But it's a nice rack. You don't wanna drag it on the ground. Put some wheels on the back of the rack. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
14:42
Well, we'll have some photos of that, and we'll get a, we'll get a first look up on the website, and got a front rack to go on there, too, so. Oh, look at JK. We'll check that out.
14:51
Oh, look at that, little mini- He is making little bite size- Little mini slabs... chunks. That seems- He's [laughs] making jerky out of a slab. You know what? That's why God gave human incisors there, son. Mm-hmm.
15:01
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Ar, gr, gr, gr, gr. Hear that people? That's me eating jerky. Just like that. Hear that? Gnaw off a chunk. I do like putting it back in there. Gotta make it wafer thin like Goodfellas and gotta s- Wafer.
15:13
Gotta slice- It's just a wafer... gotta slice the garlic cloves just so. Mm. [laughs] Don't cut off your finger, man. I'd be very afraid. That's all.
15:22
So speaking of those, uh, Chumba Ursa Major titanium fat, might, you might notice a empty spot up there on the wall. Ooh, another one left the door, did it? Four left, folks. Ooh.
15:34
Show special, 1680 for one small- Mention... one medium, and two extra larges are left on the wall. Mention Sam. Then that's the last of the bunch. Hmm. Uh, Mike, Mike of Mike and Burda. He wants one. [laughs] Yep. Yep.
15:50
Mike. He's been jonesing for something like this for five years, so. [laughs] Good for him. He went to the Handbuilt Bike Show in, uh, Charlotte like five years ago, which I was ironically at and didn't know...
16:03
I don't think I knew he was there, and I'm not even sure I really knew him at the time. Mm. So I was just kind of moping about taking photos for the old fatbike.com, and, uh- Hmm...
16:16
didn't, didn't run into him there, but apparently he'd saw... I think he probably saw Erickson's or somebody's, 'cause s- that was about the time those guys were really showing their fat bike off. He will, he will- Mr.
16:27
Brad Bingham and friends... he will, quite frankly, ride the shit out of that bike. Oh, yeah. He's gonna set it up single speed. He's... Of course he is. [laughs] He's a machine. Yep.
16:37
Single speed, Hope hubs, Thompson stuff. Mm, Chris King- Right... Race Face crank. Pretty much standard goodness on a- If you're going Ti, go all out, baby... it's a, it's all, it's all the good stuff.
16:50
It'll last like you ever need. Yeah, exactly, and it's totally rebuildable. It'll last you forever. I couldn't quite get him to spring for the, uh, Onyx Racing hub.
16:59
Well, he's going single speed, [laughs] and- That seems like the best hub for a single speed to me. Instant engagement, silent like- Like butter? Like b- like, yeah, butter is silent.
17:09
[laughs] Unless it's in the pan sauteing. That's, well, even better then, but. [laughs] Huh. Way to go. Yep. Got that dang old new Roll bike put together over there.
17:22
I decided I should have one to roll around the city and take some photos on. That is a beautiful bike. If you people don't know Roll, you should check out Roll Bicycles. Rollbicycles.com, folks. Yeah, they are...
17:32
They're, it's a great idea, and this one is sinisterly sexy. So it's a n- soon to be four bike chain in Ohio, but the deal is that they
17:43
bring in these frames and then custom assemble them with whatever components you want from, uh, 650B, 700C, different, different angles of city, sport, adventure.
17:56
And, uh, they got a good network of dealers starting to pop up. They probably have 30 maybe or 40. I don't know. Check out their dealer locator.
18:03
But the deal is you can order it online and have it shipped to your local dealer. They'll assemble it for you. Fit it to you. And fit it to you, and roll you out the door for the same price as you pay on the website.
18:13
Totally worth it. Yep. And they're great riding bicycles. Yep. Yeah, I'm, I'm... It, it's a great- They're great bikes They're a great bike for most people. Yeah. Pr- good price point. I mean, they're,
18:27
they're a good bike. Rollbicycles.com.com. See that new, uh, fancy board over there with the- I saw that. You got, like, some sort of display thing there- Yeah, tells you all about it... for Roll Bicycle Company.
18:38
My idea is to have a kiosk right outside the front door- Ooh... with a iPad in it, and you can just- Pick out your own bike...
18:44
walk into the vestibule, buy a bike, and walk out, and never have to talk to a human being in the store. [laughs] Like you have to look at, right?
18:50
Yeah, like, yeah, like the new Taco Bell, where you just order- It, it's going to-... on the little kiosk- Yeah, it's going to just-... and then just go like, "I paid for it. Just give me my food."
18:57
It's going to be- [laughs]... realizing my dream of no bikes inside the bike store. I like that idea. [laughs] 'Cause right now, you know, there is- Unless they're in for repair or they're coming or going...
19:04
there's a lot of bikes in this bike store Yeah, there are. There's a ton of bikes in here right now. Yeah.
19:08
Well, here's a, here's the thing, smart people are bringing their bikes in for pre-season tune-ups and checkups- They should be... and- Yep, yep, yep... and new accessories and whatnot.
19:16
This is a great time because guess what? First 70-degree day- Yeah... I'm gonna tell you, ain't happening- You're gonna wait... for a little while.
19:22
[laughs] But I'm gonna tell you right now, if you bring your bike in with a flask attached to it and there's something in it, I'll be right back. You'll be- I might go to the front, go to the front of the line...
19:33
you'll, you'll, you'll, you'll be kinda towards the top of the pile on this. Oh, Uncle Jim's bike has a flask on top of it. What does he have in there, Blanton's or something?
19:43
I'm not sure, but I had it last time and it was pretty tasty. Jim, we're drinking your whiskey right now. [thud] Might as well. It's gonna go bad before he ever gets to it. Yeah, exactly.
19:53
You know, whiskey doesn't last that long. No. [laughs] Oh, it goes great with this jerky. [laughs] Oh, let's see. As I'm sitting on a bottle from [censored] 1875 at home. Ooh, that's smooth. Nice, isn't it? Yeah.
20:06
Thank you, Jim. Thanks, Jim. I'll have your brakes bled tomorrow. [laughs] Maybe. I ran out of, uh, olives for that particular brake. I wish there was a universal olive. That would be sweet. A universal olive? Mm-hmm.
20:20
That the, the comp- The, part of the compression fitting- Yeah... in the brake lever there, which contrary to popular belief, you can't reuse. No, you should never try to reuse them.
20:30
That's why it's leaking, 'cause he reused it. Tried to reuse it. [laughs] No problem, Jim. We'll take care of that for you. Just keep bringing the whiskey. That's right. A go go. WW4W, will work for whiskey.
20:44
Will work for whiskey. Oh. I can do that. Hey, maybe that's the, uh, I'm gonna do a, a black version of the logo on a patch, of the Everyday Cycles logo, and I don't want it to say the same thing. There you go.
20:57
I was just thinking, like, underground or- WW4W... go [censored] off or whatever. WW4W. I think that's it. That could be it. I'm gonna write that down so I don't forget it. Copyright Tony Burger.
21:09
Y- did you, did you hit the record button so- We are recording. Probably. Okay, just making sure. I don't know. There's- 'Cause there's that also backup. [laughs] Oh, we have, now we have two.
21:18
This one's working, this one's working, and we always have the crappy backup. Understood. Understood. Sorry, Russell. You know- We'll get Russell back in here... yeah, we need to, yeah.
21:25
[laughs] He's up for coming in anytime. He's a good guy. Did I- Hope that's r-... did I say he donated helmets for, uh, Garrett's, my son, Boy Scout silent auction? No. [laughs] That's awesome.
21:37
Russell's like a, the, you know, I, even though I wanna punch him in the arm every time I see him because that's what we do- The, the n- the arm... the nut arm.
21:44
[laughs] He, he is about as genuine a human being as you can get. True that, and he knows- He's-... more about bikes than all three of us in this room put together... yeah, it is insane.
21:53
He, he is a, and he got me the, well, the nut I ordered through QBP, he also has one, so I'm gonna have a backup nut. And- [laughs] I'm gonna have a third nut... punch him in that nut. Oh, I... Ouch.
22:04
[laughs] It's a hard nut. Enchiladas. Russell, if you don't remember, folks, works or manages actually the Dream Bikes- Dream Bikes... location here in Milwaukee. And he's a great human being. Stop in and see him.
22:13
It's a, it's a really cool place, and, uh, he's a good dude. Yeah. He has a l- he has a couple of bikes, too. And a motorcycle or two. Yeah. And an MG, I think. And an MG. Yeah, he's got a great MG. And a damn hammock.
22:25
MGB. [laughs] And a lot of... Yeah. Is it a B or does he have a TD? I know it's not hammock season yet- And he's got a B... but it's coming there.
22:32
Un- unfortunately- Yeah, because it's gonna be hammock season and then, then pictures of the toe show. And now he's got the... Yeah, he likes to shoot pictures- [laughs] It's like, oh, it's the toe show.
22:40
[laughs] I, I got back at him, though, when I was in Costa Rica and I shot a few pictures of myself in hammocks and- Toes... toes. Mm. Toes. Toe shoes. Toes. My dad- Toes... [laughs] my dad was a, a British car guy. Wow.
22:52
Unfortunately. I've told this joke, I'm sure, on this before, but why do the British always drink their beer warm? Don't know. 'Cause they never made an electrical system that works. Yeah.
23:01
[laughs] Lucas- That's for sure... [laughs] Lucas Electric is, like, it's a total crapshoot. Yep. A total crapshoot. Absolutely.
23:08
Yeah, he was a, first of all, an MG guy, then a Austin Healeys, and then had an Aston Martin and a couple Jaguars, and they were all in the, the '50s or the '60s. They were never anything newer than that.
23:20
They're a nightmare. They're a nightmare. Oh, yeah. I had a buddy who had an MG. So he got 'em, got 'em running, made 'em nice, and then pawned them off on someone. [laughs] Yeah.
23:26
I think, yeah, my, yeah, my old roommate buddy from grade school, high school, college was, he was an MG guy, and he, he had one,
23:35
oh, he got his hands on it, loved it for a second, and then just endured it for, like, another decade. Yeah. No, yeah, that's what you do. You do. They're a labor of love. And it was like, "Oh, my Lord." Yeah.
23:45
You know who's a, a really big Mini fan? Randy Dixon up there in, uh, Sturgeon Bay. The original Mini? Those things are- Yeah, absolutely... freaking awesome. He, I mean, he does frame off, full on- Yeah...
23:55
or whatever, if you can call it a frame. Well, it, it- I mean, completely dip the whole son of a [censored]... it's one of the only cars you, you as a single human being can lift the motor out of. Wow.
24:04
They are so small and so light. The, the, the original Minis, I mean, they were as small as a 650cc motor. Huh. Wow. I mean, you could literally, like, unbolt the exhaust and lift the motor out.
24:17
Well, I remember that when, uh, um, Mazda Miatas first came out, they kinda had that same size, shape. Yeah, but they were a 1.8 liter. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They were twice the size.
24:25
But, I mean, I, I'm just saying in the chassis and the- Yeah... and, and size... yeah, oh, yeah, they, you open the hood-... size and shape... and it was like, "Ooh" Yeah, but just ridiculously small I think, yeah...
24:33
especially when like a, a six eight person buys it- Yeah... which weird- Yeah... is why, dude, why? Then you just have too much money. So bringing this back to cycling. Oh, yes.
24:43
Randy has done, I think, every RAGBRAI or very close to it. Wow, nice. Does he, does he take his bike to RAGBRAI on a mini? I don't think so. 'Cause he's not putting it in a mini.
24:54
I, he may have ridden his bike to the RAGBRAI. Does he drive? Yeah. [laughs] From... He's from Iowa City or has at least spent- Oh, okay... a bunch of time there... okay. So he could on that, yeah...
25:00
had been around for many years and still does it. And his brother Scott's the guy that won Paris-Brest-Paris in the '70s, the only American to ever win- Hmm... Paris-Brest-Paris. Good guy.
25:13
Ran into him at Hope Depo- Home Depot here one time in Milwaukee. I was like, "Randy, what's up?" "Oh, hey, how's it going?" [laughs] That's kinda wild. Right? 'Cause he lives, you know, 100 miles north of here.
25:23
[laughs] Just randomly picking up something. I guess, yeah. 'Cause, you know, Home Depot's... this was a while back. I don't, I don't recall the exact circumstances, but, uh, what's going on? Hey, a few events this week.
25:36
What's going on this week? Oh. Bike Tomorrow. You mean the traditional use of this picture tomorrow? Occasional use. Well, actually- Occas- occasionally it's traditional... there is in Milwaukee here. Yeah?
25:47
And it's supposed to be like 30 degrees out too. Yeah. And, uh, you know, a- and the parades are still on as of this moment of- Oh, the Irish are not afraid of the corona, the coronavirus. I know. I know.
25:58
The c- it's gonna be- I know the Irish ain't- Where we're watching it, it's gonna be the corona virus. Yeah, yeah, no kidding. [laughs] With the 24 pack. Gonna have the old bottle flu the next day. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:09
Yeah. But, uh, besides Milwaukee and the annual Use of Picture two-day ride, if you're in Milwaukee, join us. What the hell? Yeah. Yeah. It's fun. Big pops. Big M Fire Tower Fat Bike Race in Manistee over there. Where?
26:23
Michigan. Where's Manistee? Oh, Michigan. Yep. Uh, Spearfish, South Dakota. Don't know if you've ever been there. What a great place. The 28 Below 50K race, ride, and/or tour. Is that near the Rushmore?
26:36
Yeah, just a little bit north. It's basically where, um, Sturgis area. Okay. On your way to Devils Tower and all that good stuff over there. Yeah. Gotta hit all the...
26:46
Hayward, Wisconsin's got your Leprechaun Chase at the Polish Fat Bike Trails on- [laughs]... on Sunday the 15th. They'll never get, they'll never get to be Lucky Charms. [laughs] Is Joe going to be there? Don't know.
26:59
Not sure who's gonna be at any of these. I'm just telling you about 'em. All right. Thank you. Got your, uh, US Open Fat Bike Beach Championships a couple weeks from now. Hmm. That's in Wrightsville, North Carolina-
27:10
North-... if they don't cancel it... North Cagalacki. Oh, Cagalacki. It's a really cool spot. Yeah. I think we've talked about it before. Mm-hmm. But it's on a sand spit or sand bar. It's like a- Nice...
27:19
barrier island off of a barrier island, [laughs] I think. And replace your cassette and tire. Chain and everything else. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, man. It's beautiful. Oh, it's awesome. It's a l- just a cruncher, man.
27:29
Mm-hmm. That I could say. [laughs] The, the weekend you switch to an eight-speed. [laughs] What's the... Was, was the Bublr Bicycle Fundraiser this week or is that next week? Next week. Next week. Don't know about that.
27:41
Like, why does Bublr Bike need a fundraiser? I don't know. Aren't they sponsored by Trek? I have no idea. Hmm. It was a thing that came up. I think that's public now. Oh.
27:49
[laughs] Well, if somebody else knows about it, it's our, uh, local bike share system. Yeah, it was something. You know. I like Bublr because- Yeah... they're not lying all over the damn place- Yeah...
28:00
in the middle of the street- They're non-intrusive. They're used... and they're not in the fountain somewhere and- Yeah.
28:03
They're used, but non-intrusive and- Although you gotta put 'em back where they belong, and that keeps everything tidy. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Nice and tidy. Try and find one during the DNC. Good luck with that. Yeah.
28:13
We should start our own brief bike rental. Which, why isn't the DNC already canceled? 'Cause- It'll get there... well, we already know who the nominee is, right? Come on. [laughs] Don't even bother voting, people.
28:26
It's a foregone conclusion. I voted for Kodos. Don't blame me. I voted for Kang. [laughs] Oh, we're all- Any of you don't know what that means- We're all going to hell... you shouldn't be listening to this podcast.
28:42
Hey, next week on the show, Zito. Speaking of going to hell. Yeah. Next week on the show, Zito. Warning. Zito warning. I, he'll, he should be in the studio, but if not, he'll call in and- Well, okay, can-...
28:55
chat up that Milwaukee Bike and Bike business... I'll, uh, forecast the, uh, show beer. What? High Life's. Well- Miller, Miller High Life's... if he's bringing 'em, High Life for a low life, I always say. Yep.
29:07
Don't look at me like that. You know this. Beer w- there's nothing wrong with beer w- [laughs] There's nothing wrong with beer water. I usually prefer beer water on a ride rather than sitting around the studio, but...
29:17
Speaking of beer water on the ride- I'm just sticking to a theory... you need another beer water? Can we go back to that whole ride we did where, on the February the 29th, where no one seemed to want to stop for a beer?
29:28
Oh. Could... Did we talked about that before, but it, it bears re- I mean, it, yeah... it bears repeating. It bears repeating. [laughs] It's like if you're going on a fun ride, you don't go more than six miles. 10. 10.
29:40
Sick 10. I think sick 10. Six. 10, 10 is really nudging it. If you can't find- 10 is-... if you can't find anything, and to be fair- But we passed it. To be fair... to be fair,
29:50
if you stay, if you stay upon the Oak Leaf heading to the north and do not vary- You-... apart from hitting the Thirsty Fox- Eliotts... no, Eliotts- Oh, okay... first, but after that, then it would be only Thirsty Fox.
30:07
Which is six? About eight-ish. Is it that far? I don't know. Yeah, from here. Right in there. Okay. All right. So- Of course, then Libby's is only three miles past that, and there's a bunch of other stuff up that way.
30:17
[laughs] Right. Right. The eight to 10, eight to 12. Yeah. I don't know. Do I work for this thing? Well, I don't mind- 'Cause it's nice to have- I don't mind doing eight to 12-... six to eight miles...
30:24
but I don't really wanna do it at, whatever, 16 miles an hour or whatever was going on there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good, that's a good pace on a fat bike. That was a [laughs] very good...
30:33
That was actually a pretty obscene fa- pace on a fat bike Yeah. I'm sorry I had to pull the plug on that one, but I mean, for myself, but I- Sorry, sorry for yourself? Yeah. Well, yeah, I had to go eat mediocre chili.
30:47
[laughs] Oh, sorry about your chili. [laughs] How was, uh, Rockabilly chili? Rockabilly chili was awesome. Oh, it was last Sunday. Yes. I thought it was this Sunday. Okay. Yeah.
30:53
It- Big fundraiser for WMS- Who, uh- WMSE.org, folks... who won? Uh- Best, best radio station in 'merica. Totally. Best heat got, uh, uh, was Lakefront, which was hot.
31:06
Not over where, like overwhelming, but- Hot and good. Yeah, yeah. Big difference. Yeah, big difference between just straight hot. Yeah.
31:14
Uh, Good Harvest, I think they were the fiends most years that they always gonna burn you. I didn't touch 'em. [laughs] But they came in second, I know that, in heat. Best meat was Kill Range.
31:25
Veggie, can't remember what veggie was, 'cause... It wasn't beans and barley, all I know is that. [laughs] Um- Wasn't-... Unique was Dan Dan again, and- They have the weirdest chili. Yeah. I mean, it's not chili.
31:37
It's always good. Yeah, it's- Yeah. I mean- I mean, I, okay, I'm gonna put beef stew out there and call it chili. Yeah, exactly. Is that, is that unique? So it's, you know- That's unique.
31:43
Or put taco meat out there, I don't know. Yeah. Right. Or just tacos. Yeah. And display- That, that's the best unique chili is tacos. And I think, uh, Lakefront got best display as well. Yeah. Which, whatever. Hmm. Yeah.
31:55
That's my- You never, y- you can't go wrong... Well, you can go wrong 'cause you pay for three days after. But I mean- Oh, I only... It was only one visit of payment. Oh. Which, yeah. Woo-hoo.
32:06
So things are good 'cause last year I heard- Well, that, that, that was- Last year two people passed out hard Oh. Like paramedic hard. There... I forgot that, yeah, there was a guy that passed out. [laughs] Yeah.
32:16
I was only there for- I watched two... I was only there for an hour to, this year, and- I watched paramedics carry a guy outside and fan him. I'm like, "You've gone too far, sir."
32:26
[laughs] You've gone, you, you've crossed over. Well, let's put it this way. This guy took a digger and it was right by the firemen [laughs] and the police, uh, chili stands. Yeah. Yeah. So it's like w- well, okay.
32:42
If you're gonna go, go there. Good timing, good timing. Yeah. You know. Yeah, that, that- Yeah, 'cause I was talking to- Some of those guys get extremely hot... uh, Mr. Young, uh, Mike, Camera Mike. Oh, yeah.
32:52
And he's just like, "Uh, dude, look behind you." I'm like, "Uh, uh, uh, oh." And he was down. He, and he started walking over there. I'm like, "What the hell are you gonna do, dude?"
33:00
Click, click, click, click, click, kajee, kajee, kajee. [laughs] "Dude, this guy's down." No, it's like, uh, no, there's just a bunch of firemen and fir- and policemen here. Yeah. Yeah, they, ooh. This is their milieu.
33:14
All right. Well- Yeah... see you next week. See you next week. So yeah. We'll talk to you at that point in time. Bye-bye.
33:22
[upbeat music]
