- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Welcome in, everybody, to the Telic and Tech Podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: My co-host, Tristan McGonagall, is here.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Tristan, Texas Tech Football, 1-0.
- 0:50SPEAKER_06: 1-0, baby.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: 1-0, Don.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Right where we want to be.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: We want to be.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: You know, we haven't done this in a while here on the Telican Tech Pod.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: But you know what we must do after Texas Tech wins a football game?
- 1:04SPEAKER_06: After a big win.
- 1:06SPEAKER_06: Big win.
- 1:07SPEAKER_06: A Monuments win.
- 1:09SPEAKER_06: You have to play the sounds.
- 1:11SPEAKER_06: We must play the song.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Red Raider coming at you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Riding through the night.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: With the fury of West Texas win.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Red Raider coming at you on a beautiful side.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: The Texas Tech Red Raiders riding right again.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Also, apologies.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: My microphone was not plugged in.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: So you didn't get the best audio.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: And now you do.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: But hey, Tristan.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech Football 1-0 beating the mighty, mighty Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: 67 to 7.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: An absolute thromping.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Tristan, how you feeling?
- 2:03SPEAKER_06: Steven?
- 2:04SPEAKER_06: I feel great.
- 2:06SPEAKER_06: Whenever you're playing a team with a mascot that looks like this, you know you're in for a challenge.
- 2:12SPEAKER_06: This is the most unhinged school mascot I've ever seen.
- 2:16SPEAKER_06: Like logo, I used to say that.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: This is what I'm saying.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: I'm saying I posted the logo.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: I'm like, this is insane.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: Somebody approved this.
- 2:22SPEAKER_06: It's absurd.
- 2:23SPEAKER_06: Like it's cool in an unhinged way, you know, like they just went crazy with it.
- 2:29SPEAKER_06: They went totally overboard.
- 2:31SPEAKER_06: But I guess everyone forgot to print them out and put them on the helmets because those uniforms, dude, were JV.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Like it's bad.
- 2:39SPEAKER_06: I don't want to make fun of it too much or anything like that.
- 2:41SPEAKER_06: I realize this is an incredibly budget athletic department, but like it's just this is D1 football, and we're doing this, but still, I mean, an obliteration, an evisceration, and where we're robbed because the score should have been even more lopsided due to us being uh subtracted a total of what uh 14 minutes, so total.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: So we were robbed, it should have been a lot, probably probably for the best.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Uh no, probably for the best.
- 3:09SPEAKER_06: Get those reps.
- 3:10SPEAKER_06: It's good for both teams, okay.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: That's less it, dude.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad that they shut the game, they shortened it because they didn't need to.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: It was 47-0 at halftime.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: There was uh I guess the storm of the century was going over Lubbock, Texas, and uh, we needed to get in and get out, and that's what that's what Pine Bluff wanted.
- 3:31SPEAKER_06: Storm of the Century, more like just another Thursday afternoon in the on on the South Plains, my friend.
- 3:37SPEAKER_06: Um, so I guess that was one thing to make this game memorable was that like people keep saying the Independence Day Mothership rolling in over the stadium and sitting everybody down uh beneath the uh the stadium.
- 3:50SPEAKER_06: Um, but you know, it's I I look at this team that we played and I'm scratching my we'll do the same thing for the F FBS opponent coming up, but I'm looking at this.
- 4:01SPEAKER_06: This team won three games last year.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:04SPEAKER_06: Um and one of them was from I'm assuming a D2 school.
- 4:09SPEAKER_06: So I I'm just why is this team on the schedule?
- 4:14SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Look, look, Pine Glove's not good.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: They're not good, they are uh a horrible FPS team.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Um and just not, I mean, yes, I agree with you.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: I there's no reason to schedule a team like this.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: I get the easy dub, but uh for some reason we got two of them now on the schedule this year, and and it's like two like generationally awful opponents.
- 4:39SPEAKER_06: Like, were we that scared after what has happened these past few years against FCS opponents that we're just like can we please scrape the bottom of the barrel and find the absolute most unhinged logo with the worst team behind it?
- 4:54SPEAKER_06: Like, this is was that the goal here?
- 4:56SPEAKER_06: Um, because I know this is gonna sound like massive cope, like mountains of copium right now to say that Abline Christian would run the laps around Pine Bluff.
- 5:10SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's not an exaggeration, but it is also cope.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I yeah, I think we've talked on the ACU thing of of of 2024.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, this is this is a bad team, clearly, and uh Texas Tech did what they needed to do.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, I don't think they got a lot of benefit from this game, to be honest, because you're coming out of it with a dinged up quarterback and a uh and a defensive linebacker slash safety that is uh probably out for a good portion of the season.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Um and uh and and that's the negatives.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: The positives are you looked good and you scored on literally every possession of this of this football game.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: Um I mean the the defense looked what they were hyped up to be.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Um the offense looked precise on everything from the offensive line to um to Cam Dickey and Jacoby Williams and even Adam Hill to all three of the quarterbacks that you played.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Um, but again, I don't know how much you can really take from playing an opponent of this caliber.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: I don't know what this proves.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: Look, I I'm not trying to seem cool or tough and all that.
- 6:20SPEAKER_06: I'm a Texas Tech fan.
- 6:21SPEAKER_06: I know what pain is, but and I'm going to just say that I had a fabulous time on Saturday night.
- 6:29SPEAKER_06: Absolutely, it was a great time.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 6:33SPEAKER_06: It was a lot of fun.
- 6:34SPEAKER_06: And you only felt a little guilty about it.
- 6:37SPEAKER_06: Um, but I I'm with you, man.
- 6:39SPEAKER_06: It's you go into this, and really all you're exiting with, of course, is the two impossible injuries that you already touched on.
- 6:47SPEAKER_06: Because other than that, I don't think we learned a thing about Texas Tech.
- 6:51SPEAKER_06: Other than that, we're finally doing what we're supposed to be doing against an opponent like this and just putting them away.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: Um but other than that, man, like I think I think what was so fun about it, um, of course, besides the fireworks, was seeing every single number on our roster get out there on the field, dude.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_06: Because I I think I think I I wonder I wonder if every single player on our football team was able to see the field.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, I imagine.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, we definitely get to see, you know, pretty much all the your three deep of your offensive line.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Uh basically your three-deep of every single position.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, if if you were a sicko and watched the fourth quarter and continued to watch this entire game like us, um yeah, you saw guys that you've never heard of in your life, and maybe you know, true freshmen that are just seeing a college football field for the first time in a real game scenario.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, there's some benefit to getting those guys some some real life reps um instead of just you know holding back in practice the entire time.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, I mean, when you're just talking, you know, I like I don't know how we're gonna perform against Utah after watching this game.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: I don't know how we're gonna perform against Oregon State after watching this game.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: I don't know how good we are, I don't know how bad we are.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: Clearly, we're good enough to to beat the the Pine Bluff Golden Lions by 60 points.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: Um, but I again I don't know what that really proves.
- 8:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, exactly.
- 8:17SPEAKER_06: So it's we'll have to dig deep here to find any sort of information that'll be useful moving forward.
- 8:24SPEAKER_06: But I do want to say, you know, of course, I just I do want to say hats off one more time to the Texas Tech football team for finally doing what it's supposed to be doing.
- 8:32SPEAKER_06: Like, I do feel like we're taking it for granted and just like sliding right on past it of how miserable it has been these past couple of years playing an FCS team, you know.
- 8:41SPEAKER_06: And we we actually were able to just go ahead and take care of business.
- 8:46SPEAKER_06: You can see some of our uh our conference mates struggled a little bit.
- 8:49SPEAKER_06: Like, I mean, even oh, Arizona State took a while to put away northern Arizona, but I'm sure Northern Arizona is a much better program than Pine Bluff, but still it's an FCS opponent.
- 8:58SPEAKER_06: We shouldn't be uh having that much trouble with it.
- 9:00SPEAKER_06: But then you also have a team like BYU did the exact same thing to Portland State, and I hope that we're a better team than BYU.
- 9:07SPEAKER_06: So it's it it really it really is hard to learn learn much from this right now.
- 9:11SPEAKER_06: But Steven, so let's let's go ahead and start trying to find things that we did uh learn from it.
- 9:16SPEAKER_06: I mean, A, I think you'll you you you see that Bear Morin still an ace quarterback, you know, at his healthiest.
- 9:22SPEAKER_06: Like that guy was zipping around and just tossing dimes and then slicing through uh slicing through defenders and landing on the target and left and right.
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: And like it was just good to see QB1 back out there in action, even if it was against you know a competition like this.
- 9:36SPEAKER_06: This is just when he gets to have the most fun because it seems like he's playing on easy mode.
- 9:39SPEAKER_06: But you know, it was good to see him and getting out there and crushing it.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: Every touchdown pass was right on the money.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, he had to fit it in some tight windows on some of them.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: The the Koyakin pass, um, you know, for where he ran for 60 plus yards, but getting it between the defenders, he was he was perfect, and then Koy did the rest.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Uh the Terrence Carter, the first touchdown, um, where the ball popped out after he hit at the end, and we were concerned it was a fumble.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Um, he had to fit that in a real tight window, and he got it and nailed it.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I think that shoulder looks good.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: I I I think that's the best I've seen Barron look um in in a while.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, and and that's what the coaches have been telling us is that he's fully healthy now.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: And um, I think we're all a little cautious when talking about Barron Morton's health.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: And of course, uh the first game of the season, he he gets hit uh low and uh stumbles off a bit.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, he looked he looked really good, and I thought the running backs looked really good too.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Um Cam Dickey and Jacoby Williams and and even Adam Hill in the second half there.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, I th I thought you saw what you needed to see from your offense.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: This is exactly what these guys need to do.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: They scored on every possession.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, the only real gripe you can give them is uh, you know, one of those was a field goal or two of those was a field goal.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: Um, but again, that's special teams.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: So it's uh the offense look great.
- 11:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, dude, I'm I'm glad you brought up Carter.
- 11:03SPEAKER_06: Uh what an athletic freak, dude.
- 11:06SPEAKER_06: Like every time I I I'm reminded that he's a tight end, I'm just shocked because this guy moves around like he's a receiver, you know, but he's got the obviously the size of a tight end.
- 11:14SPEAKER_06: So talk about a freaking weapon to use, and he's he seems like a really fun guy.
- 11:20SPEAKER_06: Like, and he seems like really, really up to the challenge in in the in the program.
- 11:24SPEAKER_06: And it was just really cool to see a new a new weapon like him, you know, just newly injected into the offense, get out there and go, and just what a freak athlete.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's definitely he's a little shorter when you're looking at just tight end height.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's he's about 6'2, but yeah, I mean, freak of nature athletically um looks looks like a beast out there.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: So um, yeah, yeah, hyped up to see him, glad to see the tight ends being utilized.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: Uh losing uh Jalen Conyers and Mason Tharp was was a big, you know, those are two big losses.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: Um, guys that were really good for your program last year and for Tharp uh the years prior to that.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think I think the combination of TC and and John Carlos Miller are gonna be a a real um a real positive for Texas Tech in the tight end room.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: And the blocking was great, of course.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: You know, uh again, I go back to look who you're playing, but um it's still it was quality.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: It was it was it was everything you wanted to see.
- 12:19SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 12:20SPEAKER_06: Um obviously you have Reggie Virgil, man, just absolute stunner of a game, man.
- 12:25SPEAKER_06: Again, I it's it's hard to you know give him too much pump for a game like this, but I mean, again, it's just really cool to see new guys like this just get in there and go crazy.
- 12:35SPEAKER_06: You know, you're you're always kind of worried about the connection between the quarterback and then a new receiver, especially a transfer like this.
- 12:40SPEAKER_06: So it was just really good to see him get out there and immediately line it up.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: You saw the wheels from from backup Will Hammond?
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: How about that?
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: That was fun.
- 12:49SPEAKER_06: We saw the wheels.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: We saw the wheels, 64.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: That boy took off.
- 12:53SPEAKER_06: Dude, that that deceptively quick, deceptively quick.
- 12:58SPEAKER_06: You don't expect a guy that tall, you know, in that uh in a quarterback position like that to just get moving.
- 13:02SPEAKER_06: So that was that was really cool to see.
- 13:04SPEAKER_06: Um, man, we're really lucky to have a guy like like Hammond in the back there, man, because unfortunately, with what's going on with the with uh Baron Morton, and I hope I really hope our fears are not coming true, but obviously it's still gonna linger there in the back of our mind that Will might have to play more than we hope he does.
- 13:20SPEAKER_06: And the good news is he seems like he's a really he's really up for the challenge.
- 13:23SPEAKER_06: You know, this is he's what year two in the program, so he's got some experience under his belt.
- 13:27SPEAKER_06: He's been in some big situations already.
- 13:29SPEAKER_06: And again, the wheels, man.
- 13:31SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, people are joking that he's uh the best running back in the team.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Let's uh let's talk about Barr Morton because uh took a took a hit low um there in the second quarter.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: He was already gonna go out.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: I think you know, they obviously held him out, but it's uh yeah, it didn't look good.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: It looked scary when it first happened.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: Um when you get hit that low and your your knee kind of locks up, you're thinking, you know, worst case scenario, he was he got up pretty immediately, but you could tell with the clear limp, um, and he was frustrated.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: So um everything that Joey Maguire and the coaches have said about Baron as far as um you know injury-related items, results from it, uh, is that he nothing broken, which is a good thing, but definitely muscle related, um, in and around the shin area.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: He gave a he gave the latest update today.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Uh we're recording this on Labor Day, so the coaches had their weekly presser.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Um, and Joey was kind of going into a little detail of it, but um basically his ankle got uh a brunt of the force, but luckily because the ankle was twisted, less of the um less of the pressure was on the knee.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: So uh no real severe injury as far as we're concerned, but definitely a muscle-related injury that could potentially linger.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: So we don't quite know the severity fully, but I don't imagine um they're they're real enticed to play him against Kent State.
- 15:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, uh Don Don Williams, an unknown name around around the tech circles.
- 15:12SPEAKER_06: Um I listened to his uh his update today, and apparently Joey, from what he said, Joey wants to play him in Kent State.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: He does, and Joey says that though, you know, Joey's Joey's a positive thinking fella.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: Um, I think if you're actually having the conversation, like we're sitting here on Thursday or Friday or something, and the coaches are talking with the doctors and Barron, and they're like, I don't know if it's really worth it, guys.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: You know, like I think you I think you roll with Will and uh and potentially even Mitch if if you're hopefully winning, you know, doing a similar situation to what you just did against Pine Bluff.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Um, I think you can roll with that and let and let Barron rest for a week because uh muscle-related stuff uh it's tricky.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm not a doctor or anything, but I know that uh muscle-related stuff tends to linger.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: And if you don't let it rest properly and you just keep putting more pressure on the injured uh area, it's usually not good and could lead to further stuff.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: So and you don't want to mess around that calf area and the shin area because then you're talking about potential, you know, stuff with Achilles or stuff like that, or calf strains that go on and potentially will put him out for multiple weeks.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: So I I just don't think it's worth it.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Like I understand Joey, Joey mentioned uh, you know, he he wants to go into that Utah game with a with a fresh and locked-in quarterback and a guy who just came off of a game, and I totally get where he's coming from.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: Rest him for Kent and play him against Oregon, like if you really Oregon State if you really want to.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Like, I I don't see the benefit in in going full in with Barron against Kent.
- 16:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think I'm inclined to agree with you.
- 16:50SPEAKER_06: I think I think you have the luxury of A playing the FBS version of Pine Bluff next Saturday, yeah.
- 17:00SPEAKER_06: Um, with the combination of having a skilled young quarterback who's about to be your QB1 for the next few years right up on deck.
- 17:07SPEAKER_06: So it's I think you're in a pretty I think you're in a win-win situation with that.
- 17:11SPEAKER_06: I really do.
- 17:12SPEAKER_06: I I I think I think you're you're on the point here.
- 17:15SPEAKER_06: I really think you should let Barron Morton go ahead and rest and uh give give Willie experience, some game time experience on the side as well.
- 17:22SPEAKER_06: You can think towards the future for next year as well.
- 17:24SPEAKER_06: You know, that's how college football works.
- 17:25SPEAKER_06: You always got everything forward anyway.
- 17:27SPEAKER_06: So I'm with you, dude.
- 17:28SPEAKER_06: I there's just no, it's just not worth the risk.
- 17:32SPEAKER_06: Like, if you want to win the Big 12 this year, you need to have Baron Morton.
- 17:36SPEAKER_06: I really do.
- 17:37SPEAKER_06: Like, I think Will Hammond's awesome, and uh we have a bright future with him, but I do unfortunately think if Barry Morton goes down, we probably are not gonna win the Big 12 championship.
- 17:46SPEAKER_06: So I think you gotta keep him healthy and just let it ride to the until we face the Beavers, and uh then from there we can evaluate what's going on.
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: But like you like you keep saying, apparently it's very muscle surface area stuff, so nothing deep at all.
- 18:00SPEAKER_06: So you know he he was walking around at the game, so it's it's obviously not bad enough to keep him off his feet.
- 18:06SPEAKER_06: Um, so speaking of that injury, you know, we all held our breath when that happened.
- 18:10SPEAKER_06: I think we all went silent.
- 18:12SPEAKER_06: Um a clear missed block from the a running back from Dickie.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_06: Um so that hurts.
- 18:23SPEAKER_06: And I think I come in here.
- 18:25SPEAKER_06: I think my number one question coming into this into this episode moving forward is I know you're excited about the running backs, but are they that good?
- 18:34SPEAKER_06: Like, are they is it a kind of a big step back from last year?
- 18:38SPEAKER_06: I know it's easy to say without Taj that it is, but you know, does that not kind of worry you that these guys aren't gonna do that kind of stuff?
- 18:45SPEAKER_06: That's really important for it rather than just run the ball down the field.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: Look, it's really hard to replace, of course, but it's really hard to replace Santa Brooks.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Um, and and not just because of what he did when the ball was in his hand, but what he did pass blocking, he was one of the best running backs in the country at at pass pro and and everything of that nature.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: So um you are gonna miss that, and you are taking a clear step down with with both Cam Dickey and Jacobi Williams, um, based on a couple things, just based on pure size um that you're missing without Taj Brooks and experience.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: So this being the first game of a new season where these guys have um, you know, in the over the last two, three weeks have been kind of told, hey, your your role is going to be much bigger than maybe what you thought, um, going after Gwen Joyner went down.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Um and yeah, and and I, you know, it's it's it's a definitely a miss from from Cam Dickey and something that you can't let happen because unfortunately it leads to your quarterback getting hit, and that could mean a number of things.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, this was a uh a low hit that that ended up hurting worse than worse than most.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, it's a mistake, and and there's stuff like there's little things that they could have cleaned up just as a team, you know.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: Mo Horn had a targeting call that he clearly just didn't need to do and um would have affected us a whole lot more if we were playing a uh uh a better team.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: But I'm not I'm not, you know, it's not like it's Cam Dickey's fault that Barron got hurt or anything like that.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: It's just like uh saying that now.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know, I know.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: It's just a uh it's it's an unfortunate miss that uh that things transpired in an unfortunate way.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: So um I thought the running backs overall though were pretty good.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Um Jacoby was electric.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Uh Cam Dickey took off for a few different ones, and you saw his uh his goal line stuff where he could just kind of plow into the defense and and get a couple yards.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So um I thought we saw a lot from those two.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Um and Adam Hill as well.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Of course, they were, you know, that was a second half where Pine Bluff just wanted to get on the bus at that point.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: But um it was uh it was good.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: I thought you saw some good things out of your running back room that that is gonna potentially translate to to better teams.
- 20:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I I'm with you.
- 21:00SPEAKER_06: I I hope I hope that it's of course that'll just say a quick miss that happens in the first game.
- 21:05SPEAKER_06: Uh and it's just it's not uh an indication of what's to come.
- 21:08SPEAKER_06: And all in all, I mean they moved the ball down the field pretty well, and of course, it's it's gonna be fun to see how they uh react to the next game as well, which will have better town to go up against, and of course, same with Oregon State.
- 21:19SPEAKER_06: So we'll we'll we'll see from there.
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: So, Steven, before we we put a bow on this, there's only so much you can talk about with this game.
- 21:25SPEAKER_06: Um, is was the defense everything you ever could have dreamed of?
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Dude, I was getting excited watching that D-line the first few possessions.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: And I I mean, Skylar Gill Howard, David Bailey, Romelo Height, Lee Hunter, those guys look everything that they're hyped up to be.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Um, they're just big, dude.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Like they're just big, big, fast people.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Like watching watching Haidt and uh and David Bailey coming off the edge was like, whoa, this is new, this is different.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: We haven't seen this type.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: A thing in a while here.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Um, obviously, we've talked about some great pass rushers that tech have had in the past, but I mean, these guys are like they're beasts, dude.
- 22:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it is.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: They're they're absolute beasts, and that stuff is going to be really, really fun to watch.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Um, and he did put a lot of miles on them this game.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: So they, you know, they stopped getting on the field after the after the second half there, or after the first half.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, I thought uh defensively you were you were pretty on point with everything, um, all minus the the one touchdown drive, which was your third stringers at that point.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: So um I yeah, defense looked great.
- 22:37SPEAKER_06: Steven, you're the you're the O-line for Arkansas Pine Bluff, and you're lining up against them.
- 22:45SPEAKER_06: What's going through your poor mind at that point?
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, dude, Lee Hunter is 6'4, 330 pounds or whatever.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know, man.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: I'm uh I'm terrified when I when I'm lining up against those those guys.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: So uh yeah, I mean, clearly you're dealing with I I think their line, I think Chris Level was going through their line uh last week on locked on.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Um but I mean like 6'1, 6'2, you know, 280 pounds, like just not big dudes.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: Um, and that's what you're gonna get at Pine Bluff, but yeah, it it was it was a clear just uh it you you felt bad.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: You felt bad for the for the pine bluff O line.
- 23:27SPEAKER_06: A little bit, a little bit.
- 23:29SPEAKER_06: Um, so also before before we roll on, real quick, so special teams look pretty good.
- 23:36SPEAKER_06: I mean, I guess we still we're still doing this weird kind of field goal battle, switching between dudes.
- 23:41SPEAKER_06: Um we've been we hadn't missed extra point, so I'm sure that guy is kicking himself in the rear a little bit on that uh for what it means for um uh uh for his future.
- 23:52SPEAKER_06: But I mean he also had some great plays that like out of Harrison Pilot, one of the new transfers from Houston, uh with that block punt.
- 23:58SPEAKER_06: That was awesome.
- 23:59SPEAKER_06: Um, so yeah, it's some good things out of special teams, all in all.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I thought so.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Uh some people are concerned with the kicking, and I think that's more uh concerns that we had prior to the season.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: Um, yes, we did miss the extra point.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: That was Upton Belafant, who was supposed to be your your number one kicker.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Don't want to see him ever miss an extra point, and he missed one.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: Um Stone Harrington got in there too.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: He was he's kind of those are the two that are kind of battling um for the kicking job right now with with Ian Hershey being like a third that could potentially you know break into the fold.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, I think you with kickers, man, it's all about confidence, and you just have to keep giving your confidence because um it and like my worry for them is is a little higher, probably the highest in terms of just like positionally looking at you know who you're most confident in.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't feel great about the kickers, but I also just haven't seen too much.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: So um I'd like to see them in a in a in a more tight situation, like like an end of half, you know, trying to boot a 48-yarder or a 50-plus yarder.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: I'd like to see that because all we saw was like a 28-yard field goal, I think, that that Bellanfaugh made, maybe a 30-yard field goal that Stone Harrington made.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Um, and then that was kind of it.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: So uh yeah, I I I I kind of understand the concern, I guess, but we need to see more before I'm actually like, oh no, the kickers.
- 25:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I feel I feel you.
- 25:29SPEAKER_06: Anything else to say about Pavlov?
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Um, there we had two pre-snap penalties, which is really good for a first game of the season.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Joey mentioned that.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Um, one of them was on David Bailey on the defensive side, and one was on uh Howard Samson, the left tackle.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: Uh, but to only have two in your first game is pretty impressive.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: That means uh the communication is pretty spot on between the coaches and the players.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, I was pretty thrilled to see that.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: But yeah, man, uh an absolute thomping.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, this is so much better than watching ACU or Houston Christian or Wyoming.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: Not that Wyoming is at the same level as those guys, but um just seeing poor performances to start the year, this was not the case.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: And yeah, an easy, easy dub.
- 26:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, very refreshing.
- 26:16SPEAKER_06: And we covered.
- 26:17SPEAKER_06: You know, we're always saying, like, who would hit my line?
- 26:19SPEAKER_06: Let's take 50 plus, but it was uh and we covered.
- 26:23SPEAKER_06: So you want to talk about the uh general Big 12 or you want to go into Kent State?
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: Uh let's do general, let's do general Big 12.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: Uh, because there was some up uh ups and downs for the Big 12 in week one.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: We obviously got to see a taste of the Big 12 in week zero with uh with Kansas and then Farmageddon.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: So uh Kansas State, not great.
- 26:46SPEAKER_06: Kansas State is reeling.
- 26:48SPEAKER_06: I don't know what's going on with their up in Manhattan.
- 26:51SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's good for tech because they're they're seen as one of our biggest obstacles to Arlington if all things go right for us, and plus it's in Manhattan.
- 27:01SPEAKER_06: So, I mean, I'm I'm okay with them floundering a bit, but it's looking pretty brutal right now.
- 27:07SPEAKER_06: I mean, you can excuse the loss in Ireland um against a good Iowa State team, and Iowa State's looking pretty dang good right now.
- 27:14SPEAKER_06: Um, but to they really should have lost North Dakota.
- 27:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they should have lost.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: They uh they got scored on with what four minutes left in the game where I think North Dakota took the lead, uh, and then K-State did go down the field, and that that was their best offensive possession of the game, was was that final drive.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that's something.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I mean, you think about you know, a little bit of a hangover from having to travel to Ireland.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Um maybe they're you know overlooking this one potentially, but uh I'm saying, dude, that loss in week zero is a brutal, brutal game if you lose it.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's it does a lot of damage to your team when you go over and you prepare for a conference game in week zero, lose it, you're already 0-1 in conference.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: Uh so I I I'm more what the Kansas State situation right now is why I don't ever want tech to do this Ireland thing.
- 28:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:12SPEAKER_06: You know, it's funny that you're your remark, you're you know, you're making this kind of non-tangible argument with the uh them coming back with a hangover from Ireland, and I get it, especially with losing that game.
- 28:21SPEAKER_06: Um, but Iowa State took care of business against South America.
- 28:24SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 28:25SPEAKER_06: Like, like it was no problem.
- 28:27SPEAKER_06: And while while Kansas State was fighting for their lives, so there's a lot of question marks going on up there in Kansas State, and I know a lot of Texas Tech fans are making a lot of jokes in their cars, or right now, you know, so it's there, they are mumbling Matt Wells over and over again.
- 28:40SPEAKER_06: I I know, I know, I know.
- 28:42SPEAKER_06: I I spar me keeps wanting to see that second uh kicking it kicking it on second down, but um but dude, yeah.
- 28:50SPEAKER_06: I mean, other than that, uh the Big 12 is obviously getting a little bit of flack for not uh outperforming their spreads.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Um they went they went one and four against other P4 opponents in in week one, which is not a great look for the conference.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Baylor hosting Auburn, game in Waco, um got pretty pretty beat down defensively.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: They just do not look great.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: Offensively, Surrey Robertson led all the Big 12 quarterbacks in in passing yards, and you know, he looked great, but uh their defense is a is a real question, and uh and Auburn just kind of did the thing on them.
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they really did.
- 29:30SPEAKER_06: And obviously, those are games you want the Big 12 to win.
- 29:32SPEAKER_06: Uh, you want them to you want them to win those games, especially against the SEC.
- 29:36SPEAKER_06: You know, those are big games for the Big 12, and Baylor really blew it.
- 29:40SPEAKER_06: And because in a lot of people were pretty high on Baylor, and we don't know if including us.
- 29:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we don't know if this Auburn team is any good.
- 29:48SPEAKER_06: So we this might be a bad loss when we looked further down the season, especially at home.
- 29:53SPEAKER_06: So it's it's tough.
- 29:55SPEAKER_06: And same with Colorado really just peed away that Georgia Tech game.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: That wasn't good, man.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: That was bad, bad clock management by by Dion at the end, leaving two timeouts on the board.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Um, and yeah, you just Georgia Tech not not a well-known power over there in the ACC.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: And uh, yeah, you you definitely wanted that one for the Big 12.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: But um Cincinnati, man, they uh they were bad the majority of the game, that Nebraska defense.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: You give them a lot of credit because they played really, really good.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: Their secondary is not something you want to mess with, but they were right there at field goal range, and and and Soresby just took a shot when he just did not need to.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: Um, yep, and uh, and since he blows that one, but that would have been a fun one for the Big 12 as well.
- 30:41SPEAKER_06: Absolutely, especially against Nebraska and ever kind of like with that Ireland game you were talking about.
- 30:46SPEAKER_06: I'm sure there's plenty of Cincinnati fans like very pissed, very upset with the Athletic Department for moving that to Arrowhead rather than just having it in uh Cincinnati.
- 30:54SPEAKER_06: I guess if that's in Cincinnati, who knows what the outcome actually is, you know.
- 30:58SPEAKER_06: So um, but uh if we're still on this downtroddy train, I think the team I would be least concerned with in the Big 12 right now would be UCF.
- 31:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think UCF is in a hole right now, man.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: Like it's again again bad days are ahead.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: Dealt with the weather delay, a long one for that game.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: I think that weather delay was like three hours, like it was stupid.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, you I mean UCF, we we all kind of thought going into this year that UCF was not gonna be good.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Probably a bottom feeder, uh, somewhere finishing 14 to 16 range in the Big 12 this year.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, they don't they don't look great.
- 31:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and to just count this off real quick, and it can kind of drive the conversation to where you know it can go from there.
- 31:45SPEAKER_06: Um, to get the flowers, though, you gotta get the flowers to Arizona and Utah.
- 31:49SPEAKER_06: Look, I know Arizona played a Hawaii.
- 31:53SPEAKER_06: Hawaii who is not powerful, but Hawaii just just embarrassed Stanford the other uh in week zero.
- 32:00SPEAKER_06: Not that Stanford's any good, but like a lot of people were kind of thinking thinking this might have been a sleeper upset for Hawaii.
- 32:07SPEAKER_06: I think it's Arizona.
- 32:08SPEAKER_06: So Arizona didn't make it close.
- 32:10SPEAKER_06: They beat the spread and everything, and it was it was a good showing for the for the Wildcats.
- 32:15SPEAKER_06: It looks like the Wildcats, I know it's I know it's just the Rainbow Warriors, but the Wildcats might be turning a corner a bit.
- 32:23SPEAKER_06: Like they they may not be as bad as as we all thought they were, and they may not be as bad as they were last season.
- 32:29SPEAKER_06: Like they may be improving, they may be taking some steps up.
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: And it pains me to say this, but Utah looked good.
- 32:34SPEAKER_06: Utah looked really good.
- 32:36SPEAKER_06: Utah crushed UCLA.
- 32:38SPEAKER_06: It wasn't close.
- 32:38SPEAKER_06: I mean, the score doesn't say it's close, but it was never close.
- 32:41SPEAKER_06: Like Utah went into LA and just did stupid things to them.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Utah definitely a scary opponent.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: That week four matchup is gonna be is gonna be a doozy um going to Salt Lake and having to play that team.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: But uh yeah, that's it, that's a big confidence win for them, too.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: Just beating a UCLA team that probably isn't gonna be great this year, but also beating a brand like that and crushing, crushing a Big Ten team to start the year.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a big one for Utah.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: So they they definitely look good.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Um I I think you're just it's just so confusing right now.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: You don't know what to think.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: West Virginia, you know, beat Robert Morris by a ton.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: BYU murdered Portland State.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: Uh Arizona State looked a little wonky against uh Northern Arizona, but took them a little bit, but they definitely ended up winning by a decent amount.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Kansas hasn't played anybody, but they're 2-0, so I guess that's something.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: Um Oklahoma State didn't look phenomenal against UT Martin and lost their quarterback.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: It's uh it's not looking like a like a super power year for the Big 12 um after after week one.
- 33:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it might be a pretty top heavy year in the Big 12, you know, as opposed to uh the the parody that we've we've grown used to or are expecting at this point.
- 34:00SPEAKER_06: Um even I know you said West Virginia crushed Robert Morris, but it took him a while to get going.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but you win 45 to 3.
- 34:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you right.
- 34:07SPEAKER_06: But it's just we could probably make the same story for Arizona State, you know, finally turning it on, taking care of business.
- 34:13SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, dude, obviously tonight you were you and I will both be watching TCU uh take on North Carolina and we'll see it from there.
- 34:19SPEAKER_06: We don't know what kind of team North Carolina is, but you're right, dude.
- 34:21SPEAKER_06: It's it's week zero and one.
- 34:23SPEAKER_06: You can't find out much, but it is it is scary that we could be looking at a we hopefully, you know, this is a good thing to say for us, we could be looking at a Big 12 championship preview on Big 12 week one for us against Utah.
- 34:39SPEAKER_06: So, like I mean, maybe maybe Utah's back, and that's scary for us to go into Rice Cycle Stadium to do.
- 34:45SPEAKER_06: So, but I think we could do it.
- 34:46SPEAKER_06: I mean, we we looked we looked on fire, so I'm really excited to see how we really develop these next couple weeks and just really destroy and take care of business against these next two teams.
- 34:54SPEAKER_06: Um, but any other things you gotta say about the Big 12 before we roll on?
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: No, I think I think we can talk shortly, briefly on uh on the golden flashes that we're about to play.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: The fighting Nick Sabins.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: The fighting Nick Sabins 1-0, Kent State.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: They are dude, first winning hundreds of days.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 21-17 win over the mighty Merrimack Warriors.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: You know where Merrimack is?
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: Uh uh shoot, where is Merrimack?
- 35:22SPEAKER_06: I'm I'm gonna guess Michigan.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: Massachusetts.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Dang it, North Andover, Massachusetts.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Uh Merrimack College is um Kent State, Kent State before this win on on Saturday, had not won since September 16th, 2023, against Central Connecticut State.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: That was uh their last win to a non a non-major Central Connecticut state.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: Um wow, it's been bad for Kent State.
- 35:59SPEAKER_06: You know it's bad when your only win is against a directional school in a state that's like 30 miles wide, you know?
- 36:05SPEAKER_06: They have no business calling it Central Connecticut, all right?
- 36:09SPEAKER_06: But anyway, that's bad.
- 36:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they didn't win a single game last season, dude.
- 36:14SPEAKER_06: And everyone was saying that like Kent State is far and away the worst team in the FPS.
- 36:19SPEAKER_06: I think the only team that people have said that it might rival in that would be Akron, a conference rival.
- 36:25SPEAKER_06: Um, so it's they're obviously worse than a whole lot of FCS teams, but you'd have to imagine that they're better than Pine Bluff.
- 36:35SPEAKER_06: You'd have to.
- 36:36SPEAKER_06: Do you I would I would take the flashes in a in a in a head-to-head, wouldn't you?
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: I can't think of a worse game to throw on the TV than Arkansas Pine Bluff versus Kent State.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: So I don't want to see it, but uh listen, the Kenny Burns era is over at Kent State.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: He went 1 and 23 as head coach of the Kent State Golden Flashes, and the Mark Carney era has started at Kent State, and they're already 1-0, baby.
- 37:08SPEAKER_06: Undefeated.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Uh they played two quarterbacks um in a tight game.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: I don't know what that means.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: I don't know why that happened.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's like an Oklahoma State situation where they wanted to see both of them to start the year because they haven't had a true winner of the competition.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: Um both had pretty decent games, uh, not a lot of rushing.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Uh looks like Wolford, this receiver, had a couple big catches, one going for 79 yards.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: Um you're gonna crush this team.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: Like you're gonna crush this team.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's gonna be another situation, and I hope we get a uh Will Hammond to play this one so Barron can rest.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: And even if you have Will Hammond, even if you have Mitch Griffith, uh, you should crush this team by 50 points.
- 37:55SPEAKER_06: So they're gonna take the cover this time.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm always afraid to take uh uh because this one's 49 and a half, I think, when I when I looked at it.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Uh and I mean they they covered on Pine Bluff, so we'll see.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: But I hate taking 50 plus point covers.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: Like I'm not, you know, I it's just you're set up for failure most of the time.
- 38:18SPEAKER_06: Steven, this Kent State is a bona fide bag getter.
- 38:24SPEAKER_06: They're they're going to Lubbock, Texas.
- 38:26SPEAKER_06: They're probably getting paid at least half a million dollars to do so.
- 38:29SPEAKER_06: Sure.
- 38:30SPEAKER_06: They're going to Florida State and Tallahassee, probably also getting another half a million dollars, and then they're going to right after that, they're going to Norman, Oklahoma to get half a million dollars, I'm sure.
- 38:41SPEAKER_06: So they I respect the grind.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: They are there, they are that athletic department is funded, baby.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: That athletic department is funded.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Kent State swimming.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Congratulations.
- 38:54SPEAKER_06: God, I hope swimming's at least decent because the football's dying for them.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's tough.
- 38:59SPEAKER_06: It's tough for Kent.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: Where Kent State, Ohio.
- 39:02SPEAKER_06: It's in Ohio.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 39:05SPEAKER_06: Kent is this in the state of Kent State's in the state of Ohio.
- 39:08SPEAKER_06: There you go.
- 39:09SPEAKER_06: The Golden Flashes, the Nick Sabans.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: But I have I have nothing else to say about it.
- 39:16SPEAKER_06: Other than other than do we get to say it's Maction?
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Maction, baby.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: It's Maction.
- 39:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: 11 a.m.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: 11 a.m.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: 11 a.m.
- 39:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 39:24SPEAKER_06: Um, the Jones will be rocking, and then everyone will be gone by halftime.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: It's uh it was a great crowd against Fine Blow.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: It was uh I'll give Lubbock Texas uh in Texas.
- 39:37SPEAKER_06: No, I'm just saying it's gonna be like 60 to nothing, so everyone's gonna be gone.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're we're hoping for just to see another fun beatdown.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: Um, and then Oregon State will be a true test, I guess.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Um they didn't look great against Cal.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's say they didn't look great against Cal in week one, but at least they're gonna be miles better than both of these two teams.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: So it it'll at least give you something um to watch that.
- 40:02SPEAKER_06: You'll get scored on, and you'll have to at least think of something to score on them.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: So I mean, these first two games are like playing your like eight-year-old cousin and madden and just like and in back yard.
- 40:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and it's step arming the crap out of them.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: This is like watching these two games is like uh it's like watching the NBA players like at their camps and stuff, and they play one-on-one with one kid, and then they just go too hard and like block him into the third row.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's bad.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: These two teams are bad.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: Uh but yeah, let's let's show up and be loud, 11 a.m.
- 40:39SPEAKER_02: Uh, I believe this one TNT?
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: No.
- 40:43SPEAKER_06: Oh, you're catching me lying if I say anything.
- 40:46SPEAKER_06: Uh hold on.
- 40:48SPEAKER_06: TNT.
- 40:49SPEAKER_06: TNT, our first 4A.
- 40:51SPEAKER_06: It's a T have you seen their scorebook?
- 40:53SPEAKER_06: It's it's clean.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: Is it okay, dude?
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: I didn't, I don't think I watched the TNT game in week one.
- 40:58SPEAKER_06: I forgot what I was on, but it was it was clean.
- 41:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, very nice.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: I was I was stuck to ESPN Plus for the most part, and then I tuned into you know LSU Clemson and whenever we were on weather delay and and all that good stuff.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Bama?
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Bama cooked?
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: Bama sucks now.
- 41:15SPEAKER_06: That's it.
- 41:16SPEAKER_06: Bama sucks.
- 41:16SPEAKER_06: Let's overreact and say they're bad.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: Game over.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: It's the worst team I've ever seen.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: Um, the University of Texas is uh a terrible team.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: Arch Manning, bad, bad quarterback.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Turns out he is Cooper Manning's son.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: He's not Eli or Payton's son.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Uh that's I mean, actually, might not be that bad.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: He didn't look good.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: He didn't look good.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: Granted, he's playing a really good team.
- 41:42SPEAKER_02: So we'll we'll give it a couple more weeks before we start really crapping on Arch.
- 41:46SPEAKER_06: But I mean, I hope he sucks, but I do too.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm sorry.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: Seems like a decent kid.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: Um I hope he sucks.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: I hope Texas is awful.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: And uh and we see many more L's.
- 42:00SPEAKER_06: It's it's funny.
- 42:01SPEAKER_06: We're gonna be watching Texas Tech just obliterate Kent State on Saturday while other Big 12 teams will actually start learning something about themselves.
- 42:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:11SPEAKER_06: Hallo versus SMU, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa State's Iowa.
- 42:14SPEAKER_06: Like while we're just gonna be just doing video game numbers.
- 42:18SPEAKER_06: So we'll be we'll be tuning into the other ones pretty quick, I'm sure.
- 42:22SPEAKER_06: So the non-watch every moment, don't get me wrong.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: But non-con gets better uh in the future years uh for Texas Tech.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: We we at least get to you know play an Arkansas in the future, play uh Mississippi State.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: I know that's not a great look right now um to have those guys on the on the schedule, but it does it gets a little better.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, we play Abilene Christian next year.
- 42:48SPEAKER_06: Oh do we have we have Arkansas in the future?
- 42:51SPEAKER_06: Do our AD do like our athletic programs just have each other on speed dial?
- 42:56SPEAKER_06: Like, hey man, let's fill these.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Hey man, how about this?
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: How about this?
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: I hope those games don't go away in the future because with the SEC switching their whole deal.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 43:07SPEAKER_02: So that might be SEC officially switching to nine conference games and joining the rest of the world.
- 43:13SPEAKER_06: Dude, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 43:14SPEAKER_06: I'm glad you brought that up.
- 43:15SPEAKER_06: This is content for the view for the listeners.
- 43:17SPEAKER_06: Um there's the rumors are the SEC is doing it the right way, and they're gonna move to like the permanent rivals thing.
- 43:24SPEAKER_06: Like with the three like three first.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: That's smart.
- 43:28SPEAKER_06: I want Big 12 to do that.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that we were all saying we need to do that.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: We need to do those pods, and why they've only protected like four matchups in the Big 12 is stupid.
- 43:39SPEAKER_06: I know it's it's it's so dumb, dude.
- 43:41SPEAKER_06: Like they need to make sure that tech plays Baylor TCU in Oklahoma State every single year.
- 43:45SPEAKER_06: Like that's it's stupid if we don't.
- 43:47SPEAKER_06: Um oh yeah, dude.
- 43:48SPEAKER_06: Well, the back to the back to the thing.
- 43:50SPEAKER_06: I don't think Arkansas would dump our team our game because like uh it that we will still be like their power five game of that year.
- 43:56SPEAKER_06: That's they're still gonna want to encourage to do that.
- 43:58SPEAKER_06: They're just gonna wanna they're just gonna start acting.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: Like everybody else.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: That's all it is.
- 44:01SPEAKER_06: You know, I don't ever reason.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: No, I hope so.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: Um, 2028 and 2029 is when you play Mississippi State, home and home.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: You start in Starkville and then they're in Lubbock in 29.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: 2030, Arkansas and Fresno State on the on the schedule already for 2030.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: So look at just a quick look ahead for everybody.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_06: Make your plans now.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, make your plans to go to Arkansas, go to Fayetteville in 2031.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: Start Vegas.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: They come to Lubbock first in 2030, and then we go to DWR Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2031.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: We've done that before.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: That was fun.
- 44:42SPEAKER_06: That was fun.
- 44:43SPEAKER_06: It was a great, that was a great result.
- 44:44SPEAKER_06: 2015.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, one of the few Cliff, like, oh my god.
- 44:50SPEAKER_06: Okay, here we go.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: Even though Arkansas was awful.
- 44:55SPEAKER_06: He was in his bag, but he did they were awful, but our defense would have lost us any game.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: That was fun.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: Fun, fun memories.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: One of the few fun football memories from our time attack.
- 45:09SPEAKER_06: For real, dude.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: Um all right, man.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Well, I think this is good.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: This is a fun real beatdown of Pine Bluff.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, we're getting another fun little beatdown of Kent State, and then uh we're talking Oregon State next week.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: But um, let's finish her off here with a song of the week.
- 45:26SPEAKER_06: All right, Steven.
- 45:27SPEAKER_06: So I'm gonna go be kind of a basic white boy with this one.
- 45:29SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna I'm gonna go to Zach Bryan.
- 45:32SPEAKER_06: Ooh, I know, I know, but I'm gonna go with American Nights.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: Shake it by coastline.
- 45:48SPEAKER_06: Like that's just such a great college football drinking on a Saturday night song.
- 45:53SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go with it.
- 45:54SPEAKER_06: Don't have a long spiel about it.
- 45:56SPEAKER_06: Just like capturing that all American moment, American Knights.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: Very nice, very nice.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Good song of the week.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: I I don't know if I know that one, actually, right off the noggin.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I like Zach Bryan.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: Um, I haven't I don't know like a ton of his stuff.
- 46:13SPEAKER_02: So I'll think we don't know if we get that one listening.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: If we have maybe I don't think yeah, I don't think you have.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: No.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we'll go with that.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: All right, my song of the week.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Bringing it back to our guy, Charlie Crockett.
- 46:25SPEAKER_06: Oh, newbie album.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, newbie album, Dollar a Day.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: Um, the song I am choosing off of this album is Crucified Sun.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Uh real easy listening, just a just a good jam, good beat to it.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Um, and and Charlie Crockett, I'm I don't know if he makes really a bad song.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, definitely that old soul uh to his music, and and I'm a big fan, so I'll go with uh Crucified Son, Charlie Crockett.
