Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Alabama Is Back? Kalen DeBoer, Keelon Russell & Georgia Showdown | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Here we go, live show now, the next round on
- 0:03Speaker 1: Sporting State presented by our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Right off the bat, Hard Rock Bet, early line when
- 0:10Speaker 1: it first opened, Georgia minus one and a half. Just
- 0:13Speaker 1: checked before the show, Alabama minus one and a half.
- 0:16Speaker 1: What has happened, Lance? How does it flip that quick? Well,
- 0:19Speaker 1: I think there was some public money. I think there
- 0:21Speaker 1: was some sharp money immediately on Alabama. You know, there
- 0:23Speaker 1: were people that said it was going to be Georgia three.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I thought it would be right at a pick. It's
- 0:28Speaker 1: kind of hovered around that. But I think there's a
- 0:30Speaker 1: lot of money, a lot of excitement after that performance.
- 0:33Speaker 1: especially offensively, the way Alabama has looked through the first
- 0:36Speaker 1: five weeks of football. I've got a theory. I'll wait
- 0:39Speaker 1: until we do this on Monday, which I really enjoy,
- 0:41Speaker 1: where we each pick a game. I'll wait until somebody
- 0:43Speaker 1: picks the Alabama-Mississippi State game, which I'm sure will be quick,
- 0:46Speaker 1: to give you my theory on why the public is
- 0:48Speaker 1: on Alabama here. But you say it's not just the public.
- 0:51Speaker 1: It is smart money, too. Yeah, I think there's some
- 0:52Speaker 1: smart money to move it that much. That's a pretty
- 0:55Speaker 1: big move. Where did you say it officially opened? It
- 0:59Speaker 1: officially opened at Georgia 1.5. And it's flipped all the
- 1:01Speaker 1: way around. Alabama 1.5. As the show starts, it may
- 1:05Speaker 1: go back and forth.
- 1:06Speaker 2: We've had SEC games that set up SEC games. We've
- 1:09Speaker 2: seen it the entire season, from Ole Miss beating LSU
- 1:13Speaker 2: to Ole Miss going in and getting dominated by Florida.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Florida looking so good against Ole Miss, getting run off
- 1:18Speaker 2: the field in Missouri. This one, and I'm not saying
- 1:21Speaker 2: it's going to play out like this, but the way
- 1:22Speaker 2: it is set up, Georgia looked like they were going
- 1:25Speaker 2: through the motions. They looked completely flat against Vanderbilt. Alabama
- 1:28Speaker 2: looked like world beaters. Now Alabama versus Georgia. Georgia's got
- 1:32Speaker 2: an Alabama problem historically.
- 1:34Speaker 1: What a fun week. I would say this, though. Georgia
- 1:39Speaker 1: has played nobody in their 5-0 they were supposed to be.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Alabama has had a little more of a challenging schedule. Well,
- 1:48Speaker 1: we expected Alabama to be unbeaten. We learned a lot
- 1:50Speaker 1: about Georgia and Alabama this week, don't we? Yeah, this
- 1:53Speaker 1: was the week that Alabama fans kind of circled the
- 1:56Speaker 1: gauntlet of four games that we talked about in the offseason.
- 1:59Speaker 1: You go 2-2 in these four games, you're going to
- 2:01Speaker 1: make the college football playoff. what Alabama didn't realize was
- 2:04Speaker 1: how improved Mississippi State was going to be. I mean, look,
- 2:08Speaker 1: that offense right now, Mississippi State wasn't getting off the field.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But you wonder, with a healthy Kamario Taylor, how different
- 2:16Speaker 1: the offense looks for Mississippi State. Well, let's jump into that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Let me first tell you about Hard Rock Bet. If
- 2:20Speaker 1: you want to go get an early line, if you
- 2:23Speaker 1: like Georgia, and get a point and a half, you
- 2:25Speaker 1: can go do that now at Hard Rock Bet. It's
- 2:27Speaker 1: Florida's only legal sportsbook and therefore the most trustworthy option
- 2:31Speaker 1: in the market. But Hard Rock Bet is also available
- 2:34Speaker 1: not just in Florida, but in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan,
- 2:39Speaker 1: New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia. And with football being back,
- 2:43Speaker 1: you have all the new features, app updates, and the
- 2:46Speaker 1: promos like our new one right here for the new customers.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You bet $ 5, just $ 5, and you get up to
- 2:50Speaker 1: $ 500 in no-sweat bets. Get more details on that, hardrock.bet
- 3:01Speaker 1: backslash clay. Download now, hardrock.bet backslash clay. And always on Monday,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you choose Monday, choose a same game parlay profit boost
- 3:12Speaker 1: or no-swept bet to use on Monday's game as well,
- 3:15Speaker 1: right there at hardrock.bet backslash clay. I'll pick first. I'll
- 3:21Speaker 1: take Alabama, who, my God, had to bus 85 miles
- 3:26Speaker 1: to start voting. What a non-story. What a non-story that was.
- 3:31Speaker 3: They were just, you could tell from the jump, they
- 3:34Speaker 3: were off.
- 3:35Speaker 1: And by the way, they were playing it up on
- 3:37Speaker 1: SEC Nation, and they had a live camera on the
- 3:39Speaker 1: Mississippi State bus. Mossy Oak is a big sponsor for
- 3:43Speaker 1: Mississippi State. I think they are for Ole Miss, too,
- 3:45Speaker 1: but they are for Mississippi State. So all the Mississippi
- 3:47Speaker 1: State guys are getting on their bus today. with the
- 3:50Speaker 1: Mossy Oak camo pants on. They all had different shirts on,
- 3:53Speaker 1: but camo pants on as they're loading up and they're
- 3:56Speaker 1: making a big deal. Now they're about to take a
- 3:58Speaker 1: five-minute bus ride to the stadium. Meanwhile, 85 miles, an
- 4:02Speaker 1: hour and 10 minutes from Tuscaloosa. Alabama started fast. The
- 4:06Speaker 1: defense set the tone early on. 14-0 out of the gate.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Let's talk about the health of Kamario Taylor first. He
- 4:14Speaker 1: ends up leaving the game. never looked himself. Part of
- 4:18Speaker 1: that was Alabama's defensive pressure, but part of it was
- 4:21Speaker 1: a little bit of a nagging injury. Something's going on
- 4:23Speaker 1: with him.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, you know, I heard from a
- 4:26Speaker 2: really good source, and again, I talked to you guys
- 4:28Speaker 2: about this, that he's had a broken foot for a
- 4:31Speaker 2: couple of weeks. Now, I didn't find that out until
- 4:32Speaker 2: the second quarter, but you could tell the guy wasn't
- 4:35Speaker 2: going to move. And watching that game, you're like, damn,
- 4:39Speaker 2: he had a couple of windows. Why is he not
- 4:40Speaker 2: taking off here? So, and apparently it's the right foot
- 4:44Speaker 2: you saw the walking boot and for a righty you
- 4:47Speaker 2: know to throw you've got a plant you got to
- 4:49Speaker 2: push off on that right foot so he was affected
- 4:51Speaker 2: by that there's no doubt i think it is comical
- 4:54Speaker 2: that mississippi state fans were bitching about the first turnover
- 4:57Speaker 2: like that that was you.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Know what were they saying that like oh no it's
- 5:01Speaker 1: a football if you don't.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Call that a football yeah but but they were literally
- 5:05Speaker 2: saying that um But from that to the pick six,
- 5:10Speaker 2: I mean, 14-0 before you could even blink. But this
- 5:12Speaker 2: Alabama offense, what I would be excited about is their
- 5:15Speaker 2: ability to run the football. Like, we question each and
- 5:18Speaker 2: every week, are they really going to be able to
- 5:20Speaker 2: do it again this week? But they were running at will,
- 5:23Speaker 2: getting five yards a pop. And I would have continued
- 5:26Speaker 2: to run the football.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Pro Football Focus has them at about a 52-48 split
- 5:31Speaker 1: right now, which is a sweet spot. 52 passing, 48 rushing. Brandy,
- 5:35Speaker 1: that seems to be... I don't know what it was
- 5:37Speaker 1: last year. It felt like it was 99% to 1%
- 5:41Speaker 1: of pass to run last year. That's a pretty good 52-48.
- 5:45Speaker 1: It's a comfortable place to be. No, I would agree.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's kind of when you won't balance an offense, that's
- 5:49Speaker 1: about as balanced as you're going to get. The only
- 5:51Speaker 1: thing I would say about Kamario Taylor's health, and it's unfortunate,
- 5:54Speaker 1: he's been in a boot. It was not on the
- 5:56Speaker 1: injury report, so either Mississippi State's playing games on the
- 6:00Speaker 1: injury report or this was a surprise to them as well.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I think I know which one is the case there.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I think they're probably playing games on the injury report.
- 6:07Speaker 3: And I can't believe they're going to do it again
- 6:08Speaker 3: this week.
- 6:09Speaker 1: They've got to buy, though, don't they?
- 6:12Speaker 2: I guess for LSU in two weeks because he said, hey,
- 6:15Speaker 2: this is going to be day-to-day and we'll announce it
- 6:17Speaker 2: on the Wednesday before LSU.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but this is what I'll say. If Kamario Taylor
- 6:21Speaker 1: had been healthy, it's a closer loss for Mississippi State.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He ain't winning that game.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Let's get real about this. Yeah, well, I mean, again,
- 6:26Speaker 2: they scored 56. Now, does he throw the pick six?
- 6:29Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, that just looked like, I mean,
- 6:32Speaker 1: it was a bad decision. That seemed to be he
- 6:34Speaker 1: got lured into that by the Alabama defense. And the
- 6:37Speaker 1: problem is, here's why Mississippi State's not winning that game
- 6:40Speaker 1: with Fluff Bothwell or Kamario Taylor playing full speed. Their
- 6:44Speaker 1: front could not handle Alabama. Alabama won both lines of
- 6:47Speaker 1: scrimmage in that game decidedly. And you're not, I don't
- 6:50Speaker 1: care how good your star players are, if you're playing
- 6:53Speaker 1: in the SEC losing both sides of the line of scrimmage,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you're not beating anybody. And that happened in that game.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I mean, credit to Alabama. They dominated state up front defensively.
- 7:02Speaker 1: They dominated state up front offensively. You win both lines
- 7:05Speaker 1: of scrimmage, you better have Tom Brady back there. Kane
- 7:09Speaker 1: Womack suckered Camario into that throw. that Dijon picked off
- 7:14Speaker 1: and took to the house because the route tree that
- 7:17Speaker 1: they were running, the defense they showed Camario, Dijon was
- 7:20Speaker 1: supposed to go with the other guy that was cutting
- 7:22Speaker 1: into the middle. I think a safety picked him up,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and then Dijon was able to fill that back gap,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and he was not expecting him to be there. Just
- 7:29Speaker 1: a great defensive play.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I do think early barometer October game, where Mississippi State's
- 7:33Speaker 2: obviously not as good as we thought they might be,
- 7:36Speaker 2: and Alabama better than a lot of people thought that
- 7:38Speaker 2: they were, back to the 52-48 split. You know, when
- 7:42Speaker 2: I was campaigning hard for Kayla DeBoer, and I wonder
- 7:46Speaker 2: if Alabama fans have come over now, if they're all
- 7:48Speaker 2: on board with Kayla DeBoer.
- 7:49Speaker 1: That's my observation in a moment, so go ahead.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Went back, you know, the 2023 Washington team that played
- 7:55Speaker 2: for the national championship, that was about their split.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Was it 52-48? I was going to ask you that.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I think it was 52-48.
- 8:00Speaker 3: It was right around that number.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Because that's what everyone's talking now. They're like, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 1: these big third-down pickups. you know, I kept hearing that
- 8:08Speaker 1: all day long as other analysts would jump in on
- 8:10Speaker 1: Alabama at halftime, you know, Rogers and Booger and all
- 8:14Speaker 1: those guys as the day went on, Joey Galloway and
- 8:17Speaker 1: those guys on ESPN, it was, you know, Kalen DeBoer
- 8:21Speaker 1: and Ryan Grubb did this with, with Pennix at Washington.
- 8:25Speaker 1: You'd think you'd have them off the field. It'd be
- 8:26Speaker 1: third and 10, third and 12, third and 19. And
- 8:29Speaker 1: then they would hit a play on a seam router,
- 8:32Speaker 1: a big throw downfield outside the numbers. And they would
- 8:34Speaker 1: just keep tribes alive. And, That's what they're doing with
- 8:37Speaker 1: this team. And I was going to ask you if
- 8:38Speaker 1: that was the split.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and look, that was a really, really efficient three
- 8:42Speaker 2: receivers playing in the NFL. Obviously, Penix, a guy that
- 8:44Speaker 2: will start tonight for the Atlanta Falcons on the road
- 8:46Speaker 2: against the Saints. But that offense was not as explosive
- 8:49Speaker 2: as this Alabama offense. This offense seems to be kind of,
- 8:53Speaker 2: with the growth of Keelan, getting better and better each
- 8:56Speaker 2: and every week. And what a time to peak.
- 8:58Speaker 3: With Georgia maybe the best team in college football coming
- 9:01Speaker 3: in this week.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And I think now, depending on Kamario Taylor's foot.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Let's listen to Kalen first about Kamario, and then I
- 9:07Speaker 1: want you to make your point here. Here's Kalen about
- 9:10Speaker 1: defending Kamario Taylor this past weekend. I mean, it was
- 9:13Speaker 1: built up around the country as one of the, if
- 9:16Speaker 1: not the biggest game in the country because of these
- 9:18Speaker 1: two quarterback matchups. And here's the Alabama coach on what
- 9:21Speaker 1: his defense was able to do with Kamario.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:25Speaker 4: You know that if you can just keep coming after them,
- 9:29Speaker 4: we felt like we can get there. We believe in
- 9:30Speaker 4: our guys up front and what they're capable of. I
- 9:33Speaker 4: think that's where it starts. If you can keep Camario
- 9:38Speaker 4: from being able to throw early and quick and make
- 9:41Speaker 4: him hold on to it for just a little bit longer,
- 9:44Speaker 4: just keep hustling, keep straining, and you'll find a way
- 9:47Speaker 4: to get home. I think guys are all playing together.
- 9:50Speaker 4: We're not leaving these glaring Windows and and lanes for
- 9:54Speaker 4: for you know quarterbacks to scramble really over the last
- 9:57Speaker 4: few weeks.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Xavier Griffin, Brownie, the freshman, one and a half of
- 10:01Speaker 1: the five sacks that Alabama had. Now, here's what I
- 10:04Speaker 1: was going to say about this win for Alabama, because
- 10:06Speaker 1: I think depending on Taylor's foot now, that's the biggest
- 10:10Speaker 1: contributing factor here. And apparently they don't feel like it's
- 10:14Speaker 1: like he needs to sit for several games. They're trying
- 10:16Speaker 1: to let him play through it, I guess. And they
- 10:18Speaker 1: got the bye this week. I think that's an eight-win
- 10:21Speaker 1: Mississippi State team. That's probably right. This is not same
- 10:24Speaker 1: old state. This is not, oh, they started 3-0, they're
- 10:26Speaker 1: going to finish 3-8. Definitely year three under Levy, they're improved.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I think they get to eight wins. So I think
- 10:33Speaker 1: when you look back on this, Alabama on the road,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think Alabama probably beat an eight-win SEC team on
- 10:39Speaker 1: the road. To your point, they were 4-0 this time
- 10:41Speaker 1: last year.
- 10:41Speaker 6: That's right.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Then they lost seven of their last eight. Couldn't get
- 10:44Speaker 1: it to the house. Couldn't get it to the house.
- 10:46Speaker 1: But I think that team, with a healthy Kamario Taylor, again,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I can't overemphasize that, that's probably an eight-win team. I
- 10:53Speaker 1: think that's an eight-win state team. So this is a
- 10:55Speaker 1: good road win for Alabama.
- 10:56Speaker 3: It was a 33-point road win.
- 10:58Speaker 1: A historic road win. I mean, our two best build
- 11:01Speaker 1: games going into the weekend ended up being a 33-point team,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and Alabama winning on the road by 33, and then
- 11:09Speaker 1: Missouri by 28 at home over Florida. But here's why
- 11:13Speaker 1: I think the public has come around on this. I'm
- 11:14Speaker 1: curious if you guys saw this. Yes. Okay. And there
- 11:20Speaker 1: has been no bigger supporter of Kalen DeBoer than this
- 11:22Speaker 1: man to my left. Like, you have told Alabama fans,
- 11:25Speaker 1: even in the darkest of days, like, this guy can coach.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Give him time.
- 11:29Speaker 2: And he's gotten better and better. Like, it's not like
- 11:31Speaker 2: year one was a disaster. They were 9-3 in the
- 11:33Speaker 2: last team out.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I know it was state. Again, I think it's an
- 11:36Speaker 1: eight-win state team. Seven or eight. But I think eight.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I know it was state, so you don't want to
- 11:40Speaker 1: overreact to things like this. But I've had more than
- 11:42Speaker 1: one Alabama fan say this to me. And if I'm
- 11:45Speaker 1: being honest with you, I kind of thought the same
- 11:47Speaker 1: thing myself as I was watching the first quarter play out.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer, and he knew he was getting into this
- 11:54Speaker 1: when he took the Alabama job, has spent a lot
- 11:55Speaker 1: of time being compared to Nick Saban. And frankly, most
- 11:58Speaker 1: of it is not flattering because the comparisons are Saban
- 12:01Speaker 1: did it this way and did it better than Kalen DeBoer.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I think for one of the first times, a lot
- 12:05Speaker 1: of Alabama fans sat down and watched and was like,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I felt a lot like a Nick Saban team at
- 12:09Speaker 1: the start of that game. You go out on the road,
- 12:12Speaker 1: biggest game they've had in Starkville in a very long time.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Right away, you get a turnover, and then you turn
- 12:18Speaker 1: around and you impose your will right now for a touchdown.
- 12:21Speaker 1: All right, we're good. Let's ring some more bells. You
- 12:23Speaker 1: come back out. What do you do? You create a
- 12:24Speaker 1: pick six. It's 14 to nothing, and their head's spinning.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That is what Nick Saban did time and time and
- 12:30Speaker 1: time again to SEC teams on the road. And I
- 12:34Speaker 1: think a lot of Alabama fans and probably the nation
- 12:37Speaker 1: looked at this and was like, all right, that looked
- 12:39Speaker 1: a lot like old Alabama right there. Now, I'm not
- 12:41Speaker 1: saying the whole game. I took the total opposite approach
- 12:45Speaker 1: on SiriusXM this morning when they asked, what's the difference
- 12:49Speaker 1: in this Kalen DeBoer? And I said, for his first
- 12:53Speaker 1: time in Tuscaloosa, he looks in the locker room and
- 12:57Speaker 1: there's nobody in their mind in that locker room that's
- 13:00Speaker 1: making plays now that's left that says, Well, you know,
- 13:03Speaker 1: when Nick Saban was here, we got coached this way,
- 13:06Speaker 1: and now we're doing this. We used to do it
- 13:07Speaker 1: this way, and now we're doing it this way. This
- 13:09Speaker 1: is all his team. And he seems more comfortable. I
- 13:14Speaker 1: agree 100% with that. Not that Saban's shadow won't be
- 13:16Speaker 1: over the program forever and ever. But now I feel
- 13:22Speaker 1: like this is, it's Kalen DeBoer, and the fans will
- 13:25Speaker 1: be the last to come around to this. But they're
- 13:28Speaker 1: going to do it differently. And yes, yes, they did
- 13:32Speaker 1: have more edge. But differently doesn't mean bad. Differently can
- 13:36Speaker 1: still be good. And that's my point is Kalen DeBoer
- 13:39Speaker 1: is doing it his way now. And I think a
- 13:41Speaker 1: lot of Alabama fans looked and said, OK, his way
- 13:43Speaker 1: feels familiar. I kind of like that.
- 13:45Speaker 2: We heard in the offseason, to your point, that he
- 13:48Speaker 2: finally had all of his guys in there. And maybe
- 13:51Speaker 2: this year was going to be a little premature next
- 13:53Speaker 2: year based on where these guys are experience-wise was going
- 13:57Speaker 2: to be the big year, but maybe a little bit
- 13:59Speaker 2: ahead of that. But year three is kind of the
- 14:01Speaker 2: year that a lot of these coaches make that mark.
- 14:03Speaker 1: This is his hand-picked quarterback. I mean, this is the
- 14:06Speaker 1: one that he and Courtney Morgan went and took away, remember,
- 14:09Speaker 1: from SMU. Keelan Russell was an SMU commitment, and Alabama
- 14:14Speaker 1: flipped him to Alabama. And everybody laughed. You know, hey,
- 14:19Speaker 1: Alabama's flipping SMU recruits now.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Bama's burning. Our buddy Matt Moscona did a whole thing.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Bama's burning.
- 14:25Speaker 2: That Keelan kid. And it's interesting because I had a mix.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I had an Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia fan. But the
- 14:33Speaker 2: Auburn fan was like, I don't know if Keelan's better
- 14:34Speaker 2: than Ty. And I'm like, I'm just playing pure upside.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Like, Ty.
- 14:40Speaker 1: This was Saturday?
- 14:41Speaker 3: Yeah, this was Saturday.
- 14:42Speaker 2: But I will say that, like, Ty's offensive line wasn't
- 14:45Speaker 2: as good. They didn't run the football as well. So
- 14:48Speaker 2: I got his point. But, like, you can't deny how
- 14:50Speaker 2: good this Keelan kid is.
- 14:51Speaker 1: When we do these interviews, I'm on Zoom with Danny
- 14:55Speaker 1: Connell and them. And so I'm waiting in the commercial break.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And Roy Philpop is the other host. And he was like, Jim,
- 15:01Speaker 1: how you doing? You know, thanks for doing this. No problem.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Danny's like. man, that Keelan. And I was like, on
- 15:07Speaker 1: our show last week, Lance asked, he actually told somebody,
- 15:11Speaker 1: I would take Keelan right now and you can have
- 15:14Speaker 1: Ty in our number one pick and I'll take Keelan.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And Danny was like, Oh, absolutely. Da-da-da-da-da-da-da. And I was like, well, Danny,
- 15:23Speaker 1: it's easy to say that now after this Saturday. Lance
- 15:27Speaker 1: was saying it last week. But that kid.
- 15:29Speaker 3: And I don't know if you guys have seen Heisman odds.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. He's leading in some places. Camario and Jane
- 15:34Speaker 1: Barr are off the board now. Yeah, I understand why.
- 15:37Speaker 3: And Keelan is like number two in some places. I mean,
- 15:39Speaker 3: Jeremiah Smith.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I saw him at three, yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Yeah, number two or three in most spots.
- 15:43Speaker 2: But Jeremiah Smith, the way he played him. Malachi Toney
- 15:46Speaker 2: kind of disappeared Saturday night. Not that it mattered for him.
- 15:49Speaker 2: might be against clinton no but uh i mean it
- 15:51Speaker 2: is going to be tough just because we established jeremiah
- 15:54Speaker 2: smith is the best player going in right and if
- 15:57Speaker 2: he continues to get 15 targets a game it's going
- 16:00Speaker 2: to be difficult with the numbers he's going to put
- 16:02Speaker 2: up back to you what you said last week davante
- 16:04Speaker 2: smith like numbers this.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Will not be his last chance davante now this will
- 16:07Speaker 1: not be his last chance to win no so uh
- 16:09Speaker 1: and i don't think he's going anywhere i mean he's
- 16:11Speaker 1: doing stuff and start five that you're like Well, that's.
- 16:14Speaker 3: What's going to happen next.
- 16:15Speaker 1: That's advanced algebra.
- 16:16Speaker 2: I think Alabama got on the national radar this week,
- 16:19Speaker 2: and obviously they were a top-ten team before that, but
- 16:21Speaker 2: this was a statement win. But then you're going to
- 16:23Speaker 2: have other fan bases saying, get this guy out, get
- 16:26Speaker 2: him to the NFL, this might be the number one
- 16:27Speaker 2: overall pick, and then they're going to realize he can't
- 16:30Speaker 2: come out.
- 16:30Speaker 1: That's right. He's got another year of college football, my friends.
- 16:32Speaker 1: But I love chatroom stuff. In Monday Morning Live with
- 16:36Speaker 1: Luganville this morning, there was a Texas fan in the
- 16:38Speaker 1: chat that was like, He'll look good in burnt orange
- 16:41Speaker 1: next year. We're going to go. We got more money.
- 16:44Speaker 1: We'll overpay to get him.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I think you can make that argument with Camario. Maybe
- 16:47Speaker 3: Mississippi State can't hang in there.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Even if Alabama's down on the pecking order, they ain't
- 16:52Speaker 1: losing that kid for money.
- 16:54Speaker 3: No chance.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And by the way, quarterback development. I mean, show me
- 16:59Speaker 1: all the Sark quarterbacks in the NFL and show me
- 17:01Speaker 1: the what Alabama's able to do, and what Kalen DeBoer.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer. I mean, go back. I mean, how many
- 17:06Speaker 1: quarterbacks does he have in the league right now?
- 17:08Speaker 3: Hayner's in the league. Obviously, Pennix is starting tonight.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Ty Simpson is backing up Matthew Stafford right now.
- 17:15Speaker 6: I did.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Milrow's there. The only thing in Alabama's offense that was
- 17:18Speaker 1: remotely concerning is all of a sudden you see Ryan
- 17:21Speaker 1: Coleman-Williams playing in a knee brace. Just a receiver. I
- 17:25Speaker 1: don't care if he doesn't lose a step. A receiver
- 17:27Speaker 1: playing in a visible knee brace makes him look slower.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Works for an offensive lineman. Yeah, but a receiver, it
- 17:31Speaker 1: makes him look slower. I don't know that Ryan Coleman-Williams
- 17:33Speaker 1: scored a touchdown. He made a really nice catch along
- 17:36Speaker 1: the sidelines in a big moment. I don't know if
- 17:39Speaker 1: he's lost a step.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I almost think it's going back, what was it, two
- 17:43Speaker 2: years ago where we initially saw Ryan Coleman-Williams. We were like,
- 17:47Speaker 2: he's going to be the go-to, and Jeremy Bernard ended
- 17:49Speaker 2: up being that guy. Lottie Brooks might end up being
- 17:51Speaker 2: the go-to guy. Yeah, I've liked Lottie Brooks from day one.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I really, really like him.
- 17:54Speaker 2: No, they've got a really good balance with Rico Scott
- 17:56Speaker 2: getting big grabs, and obviously Ryan Coleman-Williams.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Tight ends.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Again, go back and look at the 2023 Washington offense.
- 18:05Speaker 1: This looks just like it, you think?
- 18:06Speaker 2: It does, outside of the fact Pennix couldn't run, and
- 18:08Speaker 2: obviously Keelan's. I mean, that one run that he made,
- 18:11Speaker 2: he's got just a different gear. He's got the quick move,
- 18:14Speaker 2: and Greg McIlroy in the broadcast, who does a tremendous job,
- 18:18Speaker 2: by the way.
- 18:19Speaker 1: There was a point, I don't know if they're still there,
- 18:21Speaker 1: but there was a point in time that Alabama fans
- 18:25Speaker 1: didn't like Greg on the broadcast. Well, in that situation,
- 18:29Speaker 1: he can't be Alabama enough for a lot of Alabama fans.
- 18:32Speaker 1: But I think he does a tremendous job. And he
- 18:35Speaker 1: points out that they had him on the run he had.
- 18:39Speaker 1: When was the other run? Was it Florida State that
- 18:41Speaker 1: he ran for a touchdown in? that they clocked him
- 18:44Speaker 1: on the little charts, the devices they wear, 21 miles
- 18:48Speaker 1: per hour. The catapult. Yeah, because people just immediately say, well,
- 18:50Speaker 1: he's not as fast as Jalen Milrow. And I'm like,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I don't know. Is he not?
- 18:54Speaker 3: It's a different look.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I've heard people say that, like he runs great. He's
- 18:58Speaker 1: not as fast as Milrow.
- 18:59Speaker 7: And I'm like.
- 19:00Speaker 1: He looks fast enough. I mean, I don't know that
- 19:03Speaker 1: you've got to be any faster than he is.
- 19:04Speaker 2: That speed looks different when you've got a 240-pound specimen running.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I mean, DK Metcalf looks different when he's running down
- 19:11Speaker 2: the field.
- 19:11Speaker 1: You make a business decision to get in front of
- 19:13Speaker 1: Jalen Milrow back in the day.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, like I would say that Deshaun Jackson in his
- 19:16Speaker 2: day was faster than DK Metcalf, but both of them running,
- 19:19Speaker 2: one jumps out, one doesn't because one's massive.
- 19:21Speaker 1: But you know what Keelan Russell is doing so much
- 19:24Speaker 1: better now is getting down when he runs. He's not
- 19:26Speaker 1: taking contact. You saw him slide a couple times. sometimes
- 19:29Speaker 1: he doesn't have to like the run into the end
- 19:31Speaker 1: zone he went untouched basically for 20 I think it
- 19:33Speaker 1: was 23 yards or whatever that rushing touchdown was but
- 19:36Speaker 1: he's getting down some too he's not that was one
- 19:40Speaker 1: of the things that people worried about him is boy
- 19:42Speaker 1: he takes a lot of contact.
- 19:43Speaker 2: There are two things that that I would be somewhat
- 19:46Speaker 2: concerned like you can't carry over to Georgia like the
- 19:49Speaker 2: secondary still is giving up some big plays.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Like, and that's head scratching.
- 19:52Speaker 1: It is, it is the, it is the, I can't
- 19:58Speaker 1: say it's the weakest unit on the team so far,
- 20:01Speaker 1: but it's the one that's not living up or exceeding expectations.
- 20:04Speaker 1: So yes, I mean, the, the worry was that offensive
- 20:07Speaker 1: line and these running backs and, That's check, check right now.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I think the back end of the defense is kind
- 20:12Speaker 1: of questionable. And then 10 penalties and two turnovers. Like,
- 20:15Speaker 1: you can't do that against Georgia. Well, so the two
- 20:18Speaker 1: most concerning plays in that game, secondary-wise, one of them
- 20:21Speaker 1: the game's already out of hand, but you let kind
- 20:23Speaker 1: of a free runner go in the back back there.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I mean, Anthony Evans.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Just miscommunication, yeah. Nobody will remember what he did on
- 20:29Speaker 1: Saturday because they got worked.
- 20:31Speaker 3: He was really, really good.
- 20:32Speaker 1: But the biggest, the most concerning one is down on
- 20:34Speaker 1: the goal line when Dijon Lee is just asleep. I
- 20:37Speaker 1: don't know what, now the floor to ceiling for Dijon
- 20:39Speaker 1: Lee is something else. His floor ain't great, but his
- 20:41Speaker 1: ceiling is. That entire game? You've got to be this
- 20:45Speaker 1: high to ride the Dijon Lee ride today. It was crazy.
- 20:49Speaker 1: He's going to give you a pick six. He's almost
- 20:50Speaker 1: going to break a kickoff for a return for a touchdown.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Drop a punt. And he's going to drop a punt,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and he's going to be sailing asleep to let a receiver.
- 20:57Speaker 2: The pursuit angle, and not that you had a lot
- 20:59Speaker 2: of pursuit because you're down there on the two or
- 21:01Speaker 2: three yard line, but He was completely lost on that play.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know what he's doing, but boy, his ceiling, man.
- 21:07Speaker 1: When he hits that ceiling, you're like, okay, I see
- 21:09Speaker 1: why Dijon Lee's out there all the time. Fun ride.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Alabama wins. When we come back, we'll do our game.
- 21:14Speaker 1: LT will have our first pick. We'll just bounce around
- 21:16Speaker 1: the country. We probably won't get to it, so I'll
- 21:20Speaker 1: ask right now. Back on Friday night, Pitt, Virginia Tech,
- 21:25Speaker 1: Phil Gold good? Not good in your opinion? I don't know.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I've seen so many different angles. But I know who's
- 21:32Speaker 1: got the best angle is the referee that's literally looking
- 21:35Speaker 1: right up that upright, right? Have you ever stood under
- 21:37Speaker 1: to look up and watch a kid go through? I
- 21:38Speaker 1: think it's difficult. It is, I'm sure, difficult. But when
- 21:43Speaker 1: he initially hit it, I thought it was good. But
- 21:45Speaker 1: then I saw it drift. And then a couple of
- 21:46Speaker 1: the replays, I saw it wasn't good. And I went
- 21:49Speaker 1: to dinner with our resident Virginia Tech fan last night.
- 21:51Speaker 1: He was actually at the game. Yeah, he texted me.
- 21:54Speaker 1: He texted me immediately. And he said, was that good
- 21:56Speaker 1: or not? And I was like, Depends on the angle
- 21:58Speaker 1: you watch. I don't know. I mean, I initially thought
- 21:59Speaker 1: it was good.
- 21:59Speaker 3: But he said it last night. Like, going back, he
- 22:02Speaker 3: didn't think it was good.
- 22:03Speaker 1: We were always taught, though, that if it goes over.
- 22:06Speaker 1: It's no good if it goes over. I don't think
- 22:08Speaker 1: it went over. But I was always taught by officials
- 22:12Speaker 1: in the know that if it goes over coming from
- 22:15Speaker 1: good out and it goes over, it's good. If it
- 22:19Speaker 1: goes over coming out over, it is no good. Now,
- 22:23Speaker 1: this one was going out. But I don't think it
- 22:25Speaker 1: went over it. I think it went over it. Yeah,
- 22:26Speaker 1: I think it was. I think it was no good.
- 22:28Speaker 3: I think it was a foot to the left. But
- 22:29Speaker 3: what a hell, what a game.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It was.
- 22:31Speaker 3: And I didn't know where Holden Gerner was.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Did you guys? No, I did not until Heinschel went
- 22:36Speaker 1: out of the game. Just another Auburn player that's now
- 22:39Speaker 1: starting at a different location.
- 22:41Speaker 3: And poor Heinschel. He's done for the season now.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Done for the season as Pitt is. I mean, the
- 22:44Speaker 1: ACC's second place is wide open. Wide open. Wide open
- 22:48Speaker 1: for second. I wouldn't be surprised if NC State plays
- 22:51Speaker 1: that game. I know. Pitt made it back in. Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 1: But now they don't have their starting quarterback, so I
- 22:56Speaker 1: don't know their upper movement. They were griping last week.
- 22:59Speaker 1: That was the team everybody thought should have been in,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and Missouri should have been out.
- 23:02Speaker 7: Right.
- 23:02Speaker 1: By the way, Missouri. Oh, 14.
- 23:04Speaker 3: What are these voters thinking?
- 23:08Speaker 1: 14. SEC bias.
- 23:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 1: All right. When we come back, we pick games, we
- 23:11Speaker 1: talk about them, we go all the way through the
- 23:12Speaker 1: show here. Our first guest today is on our next
- 23:16Speaker 1: round platform coming up in the final two hours. 12.30 Eastern,
- 23:20Speaker 1: 11.30 Central. Joel Klatt will be with us today. We'll
- 23:24Speaker 1: have to ask Joel. Some of you want us to
- 23:28Speaker 1: ask just flat up your perception of Alabama in the
- 23:31Speaker 1: offseason to your perception of Alabama going into Georgia. Has
- 23:35Speaker 1: it changed? We'll ask Joel Klatt that in a couple
- 23:37Speaker 1: of hours. This is the next round presented by Hard
- 23:40Speaker 1: Rock Bet on Sporting State. Back with you on the
- 23:43Speaker 1: next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State.
- 23:46Speaker 1: We're about to bounce around the country, all the great football.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Before Brownie tells us about Perfect 10 Mortgage, on Friday night,
- 23:53Speaker 1: and we may talk about the game in a second,
- 23:55Speaker 1: but on Friday night, the atmosphere at Northwestern. They built
- 23:58Speaker 1: a 35,000-seat stadium for $ 875 million. And the atmosphere on
- 23:59Speaker 1: that place is.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Yes, sign me up for Northwestern football looking like that
- 24:11Speaker 1: from now on. It made the game more interesting being
- 24:14Speaker 1: in a better atmosphere. It looked awesome.
- 24:15Speaker 2: And then when they showed, you know, inside the facility,
- 24:19Speaker 2: I mean, I am just blown away where we are
- 24:21Speaker 2: in college football that Northwestern has put that much, that
- 24:26Speaker 2: many resources towards football. And all I could think about
- 24:28Speaker 2: watching that crowd is like, I bet half these people
- 24:31Speaker 2: don't know what's going on, but it's a new venue
- 24:33Speaker 2: they're opening, and they couldn't even sell it out that night.
- 24:35Speaker 2: They will never sell that place out as beautiful as
- 24:37Speaker 2: it is.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Until Ohio State comes in. It'll require Ohio State coming
- 24:40Speaker 1: in there. I love the wall that they basically took
- 24:44Speaker 1: from the Clippers' new arena, but they made their student section,
- 24:47Speaker 1: which is standing room only at the end zone, and
- 24:50Speaker 1: it's really steep, and you stand, you don't sit. There's
- 24:53Speaker 1: no place to sit. That was really exciting.
- 24:55Speaker 2: You know, another thing I thought about, Dave Braun will
- 24:58Speaker 2: get offers this year, and I don't think he'll leave.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Well, I was going to say they've got a coach
- 25:01Speaker 1: to match the stadium. That guy can flat coach football.
- 25:03Speaker 3: He can.
- 25:04Speaker 1: They had Indiana against the wall last week, whipped Penn
- 25:07Speaker 1: State this week. He's a good football coach. Chip Kelly,
- 25:12Speaker 1: wing T-like formations. They ran it for 413 yards. On
- 25:15Speaker 1: Penn State.
- 25:18Speaker 2: I was going to say, Penn State obviously got USC
- 25:20Speaker 2: this weekend, but I think Northwestern's better than USC.
- 25:23Speaker 3: I really do.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I really do. Chip Kelly better coordinator than he is
- 25:29Speaker 1: a head coach?
- 25:30Speaker 3: Well, yeah, probably. If he had never left Oregon, though.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I don't think that program was going anywhere. He was
- 25:37Speaker 3: before his time.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he was a little bit. You think
- 25:40Speaker 1: he's a poor head coach because you factor in Philadelphia
- 25:42Speaker 1: and UCLA, which you have to. Right. But boy, at Oregon,
- 25:45Speaker 1: he was a fantastic head coach.
- 25:46Speaker 5: He was.
- 25:47Speaker 3: And he wasn't bad at Philly.
- 25:48Speaker 1: No.
- 25:49Speaker 3: I think San Fran was his worst stop.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Oh, I forgot about that one. The name says it all.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Apply in 10 minutes. He was the head coach at
- 25:54Speaker 1: San Francisco. The 49ers? Close in 10 days. That's the
- 25:59Speaker 1: whole idea with Perfect 10 Mortgage. A mortgage that is simple, fair,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and fast. 10 minutes. Start to finish right from your phone.
- 26:05Speaker 1: No stack of paperwork. No sitting across a desk from
- 26:08Speaker 1: a banker that talks down to you. You check your options.
- 26:10Speaker 1: It will not need your credit score. You find out
- 26:12Speaker 1: where you actually stand before you commit to anything. They
- 26:15Speaker 1: allow you to date the rate and marry the house.
- 26:18Speaker 1: That's what they do with Perfect 10 Mortgage. Date the rate,
- 26:21Speaker 1: marry the house. Get the house you want now. Refinance
- 26:24Speaker 1: when the rates come down. Get the house you want now.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Move in. They've got a builder program, builder-funded rate buy-downs
- 26:29Speaker 1: that can get you a rate the bank simply cannot print.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Perfect 10 Mortgage, 855-789-1010. That is 855-789-1010 or perfect10mortgage. com. Perfect

- 26:47Speaker 1: advertisement is not a promise to make alone. Perfect 10 Mortgage, perfect10mortgage. com.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Real quick, Chip Kelly, his first head coaching job was
- 26:55Speaker 2: 2009 at Oregon University. Four years at Oregon, double-digit wins
- 26:59Speaker 2: all four seasons. Then he took over UCLA after going
- 27:02Speaker 2: to the NFL. The first three years were losing years
- 27:05Speaker 2: at UCLA, then eight, nine, and eight wins. That's pretty good.
- 27:08Speaker 2: But in the NFL, two 10-win seasons just started off
- 27:11Speaker 2: at Philadelphia, and then six and nine he was fired
- 27:13Speaker 2: after that. Then he took over San Francisco, two and 14.
- 27:16Speaker 6: Wow.
- 27:16Speaker 1: There you go. Listen, I'm amazed nowadays the things I
- 27:21Speaker 1: don't remember. I don't remember him at San Francisco ever.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And apparently, I think I have something I'm supposed to
- 27:28Speaker 1: do later this afternoon, and I'm not going to be there.
- 27:31Speaker 1: If I'm supposed to come for a meeting, an appointment, something,
- 27:35Speaker 1: I'm not going to be there because I don't remember
- 27:36Speaker 1: what it is. I can't remember. I would say out loud,
- 27:40Speaker 1: if Jim's supposed to be at your event, let us
- 27:42Speaker 1: know in the chat room or on social media. But
- 27:44Speaker 1: I know our audience, they'll have you at 70 different
- 27:46Speaker 1: places today. So you don't want to play it that way.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I think it was the year after Jim Harbaugh left
- 27:51Speaker 1: and then went back to Michigan was the year that
- 27:53Speaker 1: he became the head coach. So it was between Harbaugh
- 27:54Speaker 1: and Shanahan?
- 27:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Good gap filler there. He was wonderful the other night
- 28:00Speaker 1: because Penn State had no answers. They were surprised. All right, LT,
- 28:04Speaker 1: pick a game, any game, even if we've talked about it.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Let's look. I mean, they shouldn't have been ranked. What
- 28:09Speaker 3: are AP voters thinking?
- 28:10Speaker 2: But Eli Drinkwitz finally gets a ranked win. Missouri, I mean,
- 28:15Speaker 2: from Austin Simmons to Jamal Roberts, I mean, they all
- 28:18Speaker 2: look good.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Lance, they Florida'd. Florida, they did to them what Florida
- 28:25Speaker 1: did to Ole Miss. I mean, they're 560 total yards.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I mean, that Missouri offense.
- 28:29Speaker 2: And then you're worried about Missouri's defense because they give
- 28:32Speaker 2: up right at 500 in Starkville last week to Mississippi State.
- 28:35Speaker 2: They hold that vaunted Buster Faulkner offense to 17 points.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that was the thing, you know. it's been a
- 28:42Speaker 1: running joke on this show, the Buster Faulkner invented offense.
- 28:45Speaker 1: And I have marveled at how people, everybody that comes
- 28:47Speaker 1: on the show, oh, Buster Faulkner's offense. I'm like, there's
- 28:50Speaker 1: never been an offensive system alive that somebody couldn't stop.
- 28:55Speaker 1: And Missouri was very quick to say, yeah, we got
- 28:57Speaker 1: that one. But the thing that had concerned John Summerall
- 29:02Speaker 1: all along, and it got lost because they wanted Auburn,
- 29:05Speaker 1: And because they beat Ole Miss after Ole Miss had
- 29:07Speaker 1: beaten LSU, it was that Florida defense. And it got
- 29:10Speaker 1: absolutely worked. They've got a leaky defense. I can't remember
- 29:14Speaker 1: exactly what he said, but Forrester had the Buster Faulkner
- 29:17Speaker 1: soundbite last week where basically he says, no, I don't
- 29:20Speaker 1: change anything game plan specific. I don't change anything week
- 29:24Speaker 1: to week. It's our system. We run our plays. We
- 29:29Speaker 1: don't change anything. We do what we do, and that's
- 29:31Speaker 1: what we do. And that was a big... That was
- 29:35Speaker 1: cocky when he said it, and that was a big
- 29:36Speaker 1: dose of reality when he got to Missouri.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And Summerall could tell this was coming I mean not
- 29:42Speaker 2: to a 28 point beat down but you know he
- 29:44Speaker 2: continued to say hey we have done nothing yet we
- 29:47Speaker 2: got to get our heads out of our asses or
- 29:48Speaker 2: we're going to get really humbled.
- 29:49Speaker 1: And they got really humble.
- 29:51Speaker 2: But if you would have told me coming out of
- 29:53Speaker 2: that game that one team goes 220 on the ground
- 29:54Speaker 2: and one goes 42. I would have said Jaden Ball
- 29:56Speaker 2: had how many yards? Yeah, I would have said I
- 29:58Speaker 2: am completely wrong on this game. Missouri probably got blown out.
- 30:01Speaker 2: 12 carries, 13 yards for Ball. Here's Eli Drinkwitz. I
- 30:06Speaker 2: have not heard this yet. I'm sure it's easy to
- 30:09Speaker 2: listen to and you don't roll your eyes at all.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Anybody want to make a prediction on Eli who's... who
- 30:14Speaker 1: was the poster boy for how bad the AP poll
- 30:17Speaker 1: is and we shouldn't have polls at 25 last week.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Anybody want to take a guess on what Eli says? Brown,
- 30:22Speaker 1: you first. I'm going to guess he now says none
- 30:25Speaker 1: of that mattered and you really shouldn't listen to it anyway.
- 30:28Speaker 1: And we don't listen to it in our locker room.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Y'all are going to crown us now and we're not
- 30:32Speaker 1: going to listen to that either. I think it's going
- 30:33Speaker 1: to be that.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Or he might own a little bit of it. Say, hey, look,
- 30:37Speaker 2: I knew how good these guys were. These guys know that.
- 30:40Speaker 2: you know, they're a top 25 team, but we haven't
- 30:42Speaker 2: earned anything. I think he'll own it a little bit,
- 30:45Speaker 2: but also spin it. Here's the match game with Eli Drinkwitz.
- 30:50Speaker 7: After this game, I can't believe anything that y'all write
- 30:52Speaker 7: about us or anything on Twitter. And after last game,
- 30:55Speaker 7: I didn't believe anything that was said about me or
- 30:58Speaker 7: anything that was said about our team on Twitter because
- 31:00Speaker 7: none of that matters. What really matters is the truth
- 31:02Speaker 7: of what your coaches teach you and preach to you
- 31:04Speaker 7: and how much you believe in that. And that's what
- 31:07Speaker 7: makes a good football team. So I know y'all have
- 31:10Speaker 7: jobs to do, and that's awesome, and y'all got to
- 31:12Speaker 7: do them, and that's part of the world that we
- 31:14Speaker 7: live in. But for us, it's about ignoring the noise
- 31:16Speaker 7: and staying focused on our trajectory, which is hey, let's
- 31:19Speaker 7: just get a little bit better. Let's just keep getting
- 31:21Speaker 7: a little bit better. Let's focus on the things that
- 31:23Speaker 7: aren't where we want them to be and get a
- 31:24Speaker 7: little bit better. And last week, we didn't set edges,
- 31:26Speaker 7: we didn't tackle, and we didn't have situational execution on
- 31:29Speaker 7: third downs in the red zone.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Boom.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Got them fixed.
- 31:32Speaker 7: I mean, it's constantly figuring out where do you got
- 31:34Speaker 7: to plug holes. And, you know, that's our job. That's
- 31:36Speaker 7: what we're going to do. But, man, it's going to
- 31:38Speaker 7: be an awesome scene tonight downtown. Cannot wait to see
- 31:41Speaker 7: that dome lit up. I'm not going to be out,
- 31:43Speaker 7: but good God almighty, it's going to be a lot
- 31:45Speaker 7: of fun.
- 31:46Speaker 6: So.
- 31:47Speaker 7: I wish all y'all a great night. M-I-Z.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Z-O-U. That's Coach Eli Drinkwitz there.
- 31:56Speaker 2: If they would have survived in Starkville, then I think
- 31:58Speaker 2: you could bat around, is this team a dark horse
- 32:02Speaker 2: to make the college football playoff? I think with one
- 32:04Speaker 2: loss with what they've got coming up, probably not, but
- 32:07Speaker 2: I could see this being a 9-3 team at the
- 32:09Speaker 2: end of the year.
- 32:09Speaker 1: How dangerous are they with Austin Simmons? Because he's in
- 32:12Speaker 1: the shadows of Trinidad and Keelan and Camario, but Man,
- 32:16Speaker 1: that guy, he's throwing touchdowns and no interceptions.
- 32:18Speaker 3: And you've got weapons. I mean, Caden Lee is a weapon.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And then what you saw from Jamal Roberts, I mean,
- 32:24Speaker 2: imagine if they get Ahmad Hardy back. And he's even
- 32:27Speaker 2: close to what he was last year with 1,600 yards
- 32:30Speaker 2: on the ground. I mean, you've got A & M
- 32:32Speaker 2: coming up this weekend. I feel like Missouri's the better team, right?
- 32:35Speaker 1: I do too, but the way the SEC's going this year.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, I just think with games in Oxford–
- 32:41Speaker 2: Hosting Texas and then the Athens, I just don't think
- 32:43Speaker 2: those are winnable games for Missouri. But I could see
- 32:46Speaker 2: them win one of those games.
- 32:47Speaker 1: The way the SEC is going this year, A &
- 32:48Speaker 1: M wins that game. That's kind of what we've seen
- 32:51Speaker 1: in the SEC this year. When you just get ready
- 32:53Speaker 1: to say.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I don't think you want to play anybody in the
- 32:56Speaker 2: SEC outside of maybe three teams.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Arkansas, South Carolina?
- 33:02Speaker 3: Maybe Auburn.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I'd say four. Vandy and Auburn. And Vandy was out
- 33:07Speaker 1: there starting quarterback this week.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Auburn's offense is broken.
- 33:10Speaker 1: It is, yes. We may get to that now. Brown?
- 33:12Speaker 1: I wanted to go Kentucky-South Carolina. We can save Auburn.
- 33:16Speaker 3: We'll come back to it.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Boy, Shane Beamer with the lead is not where you
- 33:21Speaker 1: want to be. 16-0 again. I don't know if this
- 33:24Speaker 1: is the one that gets him. Something's eventually going to
- 33:26Speaker 1: get him. He's survived the weekend, so he's probably okay.
- 33:30Speaker 1: We taught America about soccer this week. this summer. Tyler,
- 33:36Speaker 1: what's the most dangerous score in soccer? 2-0.
- 33:41Speaker 6: 2-0.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:44Speaker 8: Why?
- 33:44Speaker 1: Because at that point, the other team is desperate for
- 33:47Speaker 1: a goal, and you stop being aggressive. You all of
- 33:49Speaker 1: a sudden are like, we're up 2-0 now. Yeah, and
- 33:52Speaker 1: now they go. So is that 17? We're Shane Beamer.
- 33:55Speaker 1: It's two scores.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I mean, 16-point lead and a 17-point lead now both blown. And,
- 34:01Speaker 2: you know, their ability to run the football on Saturday
- 34:03Speaker 2: I thought was great. I kind of, in the moment,
- 34:07Speaker 2: I didn't think Will Stein was going to go for
- 34:09Speaker 2: the two.
- 34:09Speaker 1: It's the way to play it. That's one reason I
- 34:12Speaker 1: wanted to bring this game up. I mean, go ahead.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I had South Carolina minus two and a half. Very
- 34:17Speaker 2: frustrating game there.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I would imagine. It felt like you had it won.
- 34:20Speaker 1: It felt like you had it lost. It felt like
- 34:21Speaker 1: you had it won. And then here comes Kentucky. I
- 34:24Speaker 1: maintain if you take the ball second in overtime, you
- 34:27Speaker 1: should go for two every time. That's my theory, and
- 34:30Speaker 1: Will Stein did it right away. He didn't even think
- 34:32Speaker 1: about it.
- 34:32Speaker 3: He did not.
- 34:33Speaker 1: He had those two fingers up immediately. Because you have
- 34:35Speaker 1: to go for two the next time is your point. Well,
- 34:37Speaker 1: that's in the second overtime. That's right. In the second overtime,
- 34:40Speaker 1: if you've got the ball last, you're an idiot not
- 34:41Speaker 1: to go for two because you're about to have to
- 34:43Speaker 1: start running two-point conversions. I still say it in the
- 34:45Speaker 1: first overtime. And here's why. Well, I think you have
- 34:47Speaker 1: to go for two the second one now.
- 34:49Speaker 3: No.
- 34:49Speaker 1: First overtime, you have your choice. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 1: He's right. You've got to go for two. You're right.
- 34:55Speaker 6: My apologies.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So that's why you changed your philosophy a few years
- 34:57Speaker 1: ago when they put in this rule in the second
- 34:59Speaker 1: overtime you couldn't kick. Everybody's got to go for two.
- 35:01Speaker 1: You're about to have to run your best two-point play.
- 35:03Speaker 1: So if you've got what you think is your best
- 35:05Speaker 1: two-point play... Why would you not run it when you
- 35:07Speaker 1: can end the game with it? That's my point, and
- 35:10Speaker 1: that's what Stein did. To your point, Kentucky's about to
- 35:12Speaker 1: get the ball first, score a touchdown, and have to
- 35:15Speaker 1: go for two.
- 35:16Speaker 3: That was almost a drop in the back of the
- 35:17Speaker 3: end zone by that tight end.
- 35:19Speaker 1: That was right on the baseline, too.
- 35:20Speaker 3: That would have been awful.
- 35:20Speaker 1: That would have been a horrible way to lose. I
- 35:22Speaker 1: thought he was going to bobble it and step out
- 35:24Speaker 1: of bounds. I did, too. Somehow, Kentucky managed to get
- 35:27Speaker 1: a guy wide open for two consecutive plays at the
- 35:30Speaker 1: end of that game, which is just remarkable in that situation.
- 35:33Speaker 1: You find a guy wide open for the touchdown, Minchie does.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Then you find a guy wide open for the two-point conversion,
- 35:38Speaker 1: even though he did almost bobble and drop it. Listen, man,
- 35:42Speaker 1: this Will Stein guy, he's now got road wins at
- 35:44Speaker 1: Texas A & M and at South Carolina.
- 35:46Speaker 3: And played Bama better than anybody.
- 35:47Speaker 1: And played Bama for a half better than anybody has
- 35:50Speaker 1: just about. And it just looks so different. It's fun
- 35:55Speaker 1: offense to watch, and they're winning games with it. I mean,
- 35:57Speaker 1: it's almost like Mark Stoops has now forgotten as much
- 35:59Speaker 1: as he did there.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Well, if you're not going to fire Beamer yet, I
- 36:03Speaker 2: don't think they're going to fire him during the season.
- 36:05Speaker 2: After the season, for sure. But, I mean, you know,
- 36:08Speaker 2: schools handle it different ways. Some will pull the trigger
- 36:10Speaker 2: in the middle of the season, and others will let
- 36:12Speaker 2: it ride it out. I mean, I guess they're going
- 36:14Speaker 2: to let Beamers about to go into a.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Gauntlet, too. They got a lot of losses. I don't
- 36:19Speaker 1: know how he survives this. But you went– it's bye
- 36:21Speaker 1: week in South Carolina, right? Or do they have somebody
- 36:23Speaker 1: this week?
- 36:24Speaker 3: At Florida.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 36:25Speaker 3: And I think Florida's going to be.
- 36:26Speaker 1: A little upset. Kind of a bad time to catch
- 36:27Speaker 1: the Gators. So you got Florida. Then I think it's
- 36:30Speaker 1: a bye week for South Carolina. It is. That becomes
- 36:33Speaker 1: a very– Common place to let somebody go is a
- 36:39Speaker 1: bye week. If you're going to make an in-season move,
- 36:41Speaker 1: you do it during a bye week. Gives the interim
- 36:43Speaker 1: coach players time to react and interim coach time to
- 36:46Speaker 1: put some pieces together.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Super nice guy. Can be annoying at times on the mic, but.
- 36:52Speaker 2: He's lost eight straight in the SEC.
- 36:54Speaker 1: And he keeps pulling these big leads. Yeah, I know
- 36:56Speaker 1: it's a.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Tough gig, but if you're a South Carolina fan, you've
- 36:58Speaker 3: got to be mad right now.
- 36:59Speaker 1: I mean, one of the leads he blew was Alabama
- 37:01Speaker 1: last year. Had Alabama down two scores in the fourth
- 37:03Speaker 1: quarter and couldn't close the deal. Had two scores again.
- 37:06Speaker 3: I know.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's like this guy. Now, this was two
- 37:08Speaker 1: scores in the first half, Saturday against Kentucky. But still,
- 37:11Speaker 1: the worst one's halftime. He was up. What, 20-something at
- 37:14Speaker 1: Texas A & M? Oh, it was more than that.
- 37:16Speaker 1: It was 30-something. I thought it was 28-nothing. No, no,
- 37:21Speaker 1: I think it was 34-3.
- 37:22Speaker 5: 30-3. 30-3.
- 37:22Speaker 1: He's up 27 points at A & M celebrating, going
- 37:24Speaker 1: into the locker room, you know, doing all that mess,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and they lose the game. I mean, this is– you
- 37:30Speaker 1: can't recover from this.
- 37:31Speaker 2: What's crazy is, like, their ability to run– they averaged
- 37:34Speaker 2: over six yards a carry on Saturday. How do you
- 37:36Speaker 2: have a 17-point lead at home, you're running the football
- 37:40Speaker 2: at will, and you blow that lead?
- 37:42Speaker 1: That's hard to do. It's almost impossible.
- 37:45Speaker 2: It's almost like it's bad coaching. LaNorse isn't playing bad football.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I thought last year he was bad. The year before,
- 37:50Speaker 2: he showed he could be really good, and I think
- 37:52Speaker 2: he's kind of in between.
- 37:53Speaker 1: And the Saturday morning Thamel report was that they had
- 37:57Speaker 1: worked the backup more. He had gotten more first-team snaps
- 38:00Speaker 1: this week. Maybe that's what sparked LaNorse on a little bit.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I don't know. Here is Shane Beamer after the game,
- 38:07Speaker 1: and I've done this my whole career, both at Auburn
- 38:10Speaker 1: and Alabama. And at Kentucky. When I worked in Lexington,
- 38:15Speaker 1: it's so hard to cover a coach that you know
- 38:17Speaker 1: is on the hot seat and that he likely will
- 38:19Speaker 1: be fired, but he still has his job. And you
- 38:23Speaker 1: have to ask what every fan is thinking. And Shane
- 38:26Speaker 1: Beamer got asked about his future after the loss.
- 38:29Speaker 8: Steve Spurrier told the fans not to clap for the
- 38:32Speaker 8: team after they lost. You've kind of trumpeted the team's
- 38:36Speaker 8: competitiveness and their effort. Is there a point when competitiveness
- 38:39Speaker 8: just isn't good enough?
- 38:41Speaker 6: No, I mean, we've got to win football games, John.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I'm not dumb.
- 38:44Speaker 3: I mean, you know that.
- 38:45Speaker 6: I mean, we're not here for moral victories, bud, and
- 38:48Speaker 6: you know that.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I'm proud of the way they competed.
- 38:51Speaker 6: I'm proud of the way they responded. But ultimately, you're
- 38:53Speaker 6: judged on wins and losses, and we've got to win
- 38:55Speaker 6: football games. But I am proud as hell of the
- 38:57Speaker 6: young men in that locker room and how they stuck
- 39:00Speaker 6: together this week and how they battled tonight. Shane, do
- 39:02Speaker 6: you feel you have the support of the administration to
- 39:04Speaker 6: continue as football coach? I don't know anything other than
- 39:08Speaker 6: what they've told me, David, that they've been super supportive
- 39:11Speaker 6: and have been all along. I wish we could have
- 39:14Speaker 6: put a better result on the field tonight.
- 39:17Speaker 2: I know nobody's going to feel sorry for him because
- 39:19Speaker 2: he's probably making $ 7 million, I'm guessing, a year.
- 39:21Speaker 1: $ 20 million to walk away, $ 20 million-ish to walk away.
- 39:23Speaker 3: But how difficult is it for him to answer these questions?
- 39:28Speaker 1: It's hard to ask. It's hard to sit in the
- 39:29Speaker 1: room with him. when it's happening on both sides. Yeah,
- 39:31Speaker 1: and to your point, Jim, as the media, you're an
- 39:33Speaker 1: extension of the fan base. You've got to ask what
- 39:35Speaker 1: the people want to hear and the people want to
- 39:37Speaker 1: hear those answers.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and how do you answer it?
- 39:39Speaker 1: I didn't love the first answer.
- 39:40Speaker 6: What?
- 39:41Speaker 1: Bud was very condescending. You know, we're not here for
- 39:43Speaker 1: moral victories, Bud. By the way, beating Kentucky was not
- 39:46Speaker 1: going to be a moral victory. That was not a
- 39:48Speaker 1: moral victory. By the way, you were favored. Yeah, you're
- 39:50Speaker 1: supposed to win that game. The second answer, though, I
- 39:53Speaker 1: actually thought he answered it the best way he possibly could.
- 39:55Speaker 1: He didn't blow up at a guy. He didn't, you know,
- 39:57Speaker 1: he's just like, they've been supportive of me. That's all
- 39:59Speaker 1: I can say. You know, they continue to support me,
- 40:02Speaker 1: but I know I got to win.
- 40:03Speaker 2: You know, what do you think it's like to be
- 40:04Speaker 2: a wife in that situation where he comes home from
- 40:06Speaker 2: that game?
- 40:08Speaker 1: Like, do you just stay away?
- 40:09Speaker 7: Like, I.
- 40:10Speaker 1: I remember one time, this was during an SEC championship game.
- 40:15Speaker 1: I want to say 2017 Auburn, Georgia. I'm going to
- 40:19Speaker 1: head down to the field for the end of the game,
- 40:21Speaker 1: and Christy Malzahn is sitting in the tunnel. Like, she
- 40:23Speaker 1: can't even watch it. Her husband's coaching in the SEC
- 40:25Speaker 1: championship game, right? I think I was with you when
- 40:27Speaker 1: we were going down. Yeah, we were both like, wow,
- 40:29Speaker 1: that was odd, wasn't it? I mean, she's sitting in
- 40:30Speaker 1: the tunnel just like not even watching the game, Lance.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Or maybe that was a different Auburn game that I
- 40:35Speaker 1: bumped into.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Or maybe it's like that Allstate commercial where she's better
- 40:38Speaker 2: luck when she's in the tunnel.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Maybe so, I don't know.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Maybe you've got to stay in the tunnel.
- 40:41Speaker 1: They've locked her out of the booth. But, I mean,
- 40:43Speaker 1: all I could think of is her husband's coaching the
- 40:46Speaker 1: SEC championship. He's not coaching for his job at that point.
- 40:48Speaker 1: His popularity in 2017 was about as high as it
- 40:51Speaker 1: got as Auburn's head coach. I mean, to answer your question,
- 40:55Speaker 1: that was a winning wife. And they lost the game,
- 40:58Speaker 1: I know. But a wife where it was going well,
- 41:00Speaker 1: I can't imagine when it gets to this point.
- 41:02Speaker 2: And, you know, she's probably got that one friend at
- 41:03Speaker 2: the country club that's like, who gives a rat's ass?
- 41:06Speaker 1: You're about to get $ 26 million. That changed the zero
- 41:08Speaker 1: on those checks. Have you started to look at new houses,
- 41:11Speaker 1: get the hell out of Columbia? Have y'all thought about
- 41:14Speaker 1: the beach, just living at your beach house? $ 26 million.
- 41:17Speaker 3: I'll tell you, I think I would. I know these
- 41:18Speaker 3: guys are competitive.
- 41:20Speaker 2: But so much shit they've got to go through.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I know.
- 41:22Speaker 2: When Jeff Levy, his biggest question right now at 4-1 is,
- 41:25Speaker 2: how are you.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Going to keep your quarterback for next year?
- 41:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:29Speaker 3: It's a tough racket.
- 41:30Speaker 1: I know they make a lot of money. It's a
- 41:31Speaker 1: tough way to do it. Cash that check and go
- 41:33Speaker 1: to the hunting club. Sit around and shoot some birds
- 41:38Speaker 1: or whatever. All right. When we come back, more college
- 41:40Speaker 1: ball games. Next pick is mine, I guess. We'll do that.
- 41:44Speaker 1: I'll squeeze in a little Atlanta Braves conversation when we
- 41:47Speaker 1: come back as well. Big win for Atlanta. That's next.
- 41:50Speaker 1: on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on
- 41:52Speaker 1: Sporting State. Ashley, one of our great viewers and listeners,
- 41:56Speaker 1: Ashley the guy, not a girl. I have from day
- 42:00Speaker 1: one liked Kalen DeBoer, and a lot of Alabama fans
- 42:04Speaker 1: feel that way. There may be other fans out there,
- 42:09Speaker 1: but I do have one friend that is that way.
- 42:11Speaker 1: But most of the guys I watch ball with except
- 42:14Speaker 1: for one have always supported him and thought DeBoer was
- 42:17Speaker 1: the best coach for Alabama. Check back on Monday. I
- 42:22Speaker 1: want to see how people react if Alabama loses the
- 42:25Speaker 1: game and how they feel about them then. But right now,
- 42:29Speaker 1: everybody loving Kalen DeBoer as Alabama's coach.
- 42:32Speaker 2: I don't think you're ever going to get to that 100%
- 42:34Speaker 2: approval rating again unless he wins a national championship, but.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Obviously very much on the table.
- 42:40Speaker 2: I was looking at projected bowl matchups and college football
- 42:43Speaker 2: playoff matchups, and I saw a national writer had Alabama
- 42:46Speaker 2: and Georgia playing for the national championship.
- 42:48Speaker 1: That changed.
- 42:50Speaker 2: So I guess that would be three times we could
- 42:51Speaker 2: possibly see him this year.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Saturday at Bryant-Denny, then the SEC championship in Atlanta, and
- 42:56Speaker 1: then the national championship or semifinals or quarterfinals. They could
- 43:01Speaker 1: pair up somewhere along the way. Real quickly, Braves, a
- 43:05Speaker 1: little baseball. What the Braves did last night to the
- 43:08Speaker 1: Dodgers was simply amazing. Ray Kerr, I think I got
- 43:12Speaker 1: his name right, former 7-Eleven employee, had given up baseball.
- 43:19Speaker 1: And then he had a friend that said, man, you
- 43:22Speaker 1: need to try out. And he went back to junior college.
- 43:25Speaker 1: And then I think it was the Mariners picked him
- 43:29Speaker 1: up for a $ 2, 000 contract, gave him $ 2, 000 and invited
- 43:32Speaker 1: him to camp. He took it and went, and then
- 43:37Speaker 1: he's worked his way. This is the second time this postseason,
- 43:40Speaker 1: a bullpen start, he's gone out there and given them
- 43:42Speaker 1: virtually three innings of great pitching. But this time he
- 43:45Speaker 1: did it against the Dodgers. Well, look, they stole game two,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and that is huge for the Braves. Because now you
- 43:52Speaker 1: did exactly what you had to do, and the way
- 43:54Speaker 1: they did it yesterday was amazing. Holding the Dodgers 0
- 43:56Speaker 1: of 9 in scoring, runners in scoring position, two solo shots,
- 43:59Speaker 1: the only runs the Dodgers were able to manufacture. But
- 44:03Speaker 1: now you've got your ace, ball in hand, game three
- 44:06Speaker 1: at home. This is exactly perfect scenario for the Braves.
- 44:09Speaker 1: So basically, this is the Dennis Quaid movie, except old
- 44:12Speaker 1: boy is selling slushies instead of coaching baseball. I mean,
- 44:15Speaker 1: it's the exact same story, really, right? Three innings in
- 44:19Speaker 1: both of his outings. In fact, he's coming off of
- 44:22Speaker 1: Tommy John surgery that took him two years. They said
- 44:24Speaker 1: this in a broadcast last night. That took him two
- 44:26Speaker 1: years to recover. Not as fast as most people recover
- 44:30Speaker 1: from Tommy John. It took him... He missed almost all
- 44:32Speaker 1: of two seasons to recover, to get back to where
- 44:36Speaker 1: he is this year. And he's not young, but he's
- 44:38Speaker 1: living a dream story. But not just him. Walt Weiss,
- 44:42Speaker 1: the way he managed that bullpen and used everybody to
- 44:46Speaker 1: get to the end last night.
- 44:47Speaker 3: And everybody worked.
- 44:49Speaker 1: And everybody worked.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Back to Kerr real quick.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Six innings this postseason against the Phillies and the Dodgers.
- 44:55Speaker 2: He's only given up three hits in zero runs.
- 44:57Speaker 1: That's amazing. It's amazing. And now they're even in a
- 45:01Speaker 1: best of five. So that's like being 2-2 with three
- 45:05Speaker 1: to play.
- 45:05Speaker 3: And two are in Atlanta.
- 45:06Speaker 1: And the next two are in Atlanta. And the two
- 45:09Speaker 1: good starters that Atlanta has haven't pitched yet. They're ready
- 45:12Speaker 1: to go in games three and four. So this thing
- 45:16Speaker 1: could not go back. It may not go back to Atlanta.
- 45:18Speaker 2: But it's still Yamamoto going in game three and then
- 45:21Speaker 2: Glass now going in game four.
- 45:22Speaker 1: So, you know, I mean, the Dodgers, obviously, it's silly numbers.
- 45:27Speaker 3: You know, game in, game out.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Today, Forrester's White Sox up 1-0 at Cleveland, 4
- 45:34Speaker 1: o'clock on TBS. The hard rock bet line is Cleveland
- 45:38Speaker 1: minus 158 to even that series up. And then the Yankees,
- 45:44Speaker 1: and by the way, did you see Tropicana Field? 40,000
- 45:45Speaker 1: sold out. I did see that, Jimmy. How many are
- 45:48Speaker 1: Yankees fans? Biggest crowd I've ever seen in there. Yeah. Oh,
- 45:52Speaker 1: I know. That does not surprise me. But it also
- 45:54Speaker 1: wouldn't surprise me if it was 50-50 Yankees Yankees-Rays. Rays
- 45:58Speaker 1: win that first one. Almost a no-hitter. Eight innings of
- 46:01Speaker 1: no-hit ball. 7 o'clock TBS tonight. The Yankees minus 131
- 46:06Speaker 1: to win that game tonight. They've got their stud pitcher
- 46:10Speaker 1: that's the Cy Young Award winner on the field tonight.
- 46:14Speaker 1: That you didn't even know was a Major League player

- 47:14Speaker 1: I want to go outside of the footprint, and I
- 47:17Speaker 1: want to bring in the Indiana Rutgers game. I know
- 47:23Speaker 1: it's not one that was competitive, 47-15 Indiana. But unlike Northwestern,
- 47:29Speaker 1: Indiana looked the part this time. They had, for the
- 47:33Speaker 1: first time since 1995 in football, two 100-yard rushers, two
- 47:38Speaker 1: 100-yard receivers in that game. Now that's the way Indiana,
- 47:42Speaker 1: defending national champions... are supposed to look against a bad
- 47:45Speaker 1: team in Rutgers.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Yeah, him being black in the backfield last year, really good.
- 47:49Speaker 2: But this was supposed to be why they would be
- 47:51Speaker 2: maybe a little bit better as far as running the football,
- 47:53Speaker 2: was Turbo Richard, over 200 yards. I mean, Josh Hoover,
- 47:57Speaker 2: he's not turning the football over, so he's not Mendoza.
- 47:59Speaker 1: We talked about this last week. But still super efficient, 20-27,
- 48:03Speaker 1: 250 yards, four touchdowns.
- 48:06Speaker 3: No picks.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Defensively, Indiana showed out. And say what you want about Rutgers,
- 48:11Speaker 2: KJ Duff's a stud. They held him under 100 yards.
- 48:14Speaker 2: They were nine first downs, two of 14 on third down. So,
- 48:17Speaker 2: I mean, that's the way Indiana's supposed to win these games.
- 48:20Speaker 2: But it looked more like the Indiana product we saw
- 48:23Speaker 2: last year.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Hoover 20 of 27, exactly what you
- 48:25Speaker 1: want for touchdowns. But my takeaway was Duff was, believe
- 48:30Speaker 1: it or not, step for step, statistically, with Jeremiah Smith.
- 48:36Speaker 1: and he is not after Saturday. He had the Jaden
- 48:39Speaker 1: Ball Saturday, you know? Not that Duff was ever going
- 48:42Speaker 1: to factor into the Heisman as ball my half, but
- 48:44Speaker 1: it was the one shiny thing about Rutgers football, who
- 48:46Speaker 1: now is 1-4, 0-2.
- 48:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I do think Duff could be a first-round guy.
- 48:50Speaker 3: On the other side, Charlie Becker 1,000% is a first-round guy.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Nick Marsh actually led them in receiving, though. He
- 48:55Speaker 1: had a.
- 48:56Speaker 3: That's a great one to watch.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Yeah, this is what everybody thought Marshall was going to
- 48:58Speaker 1: be when he came over from Michigan State. I bring
- 49:00Speaker 1: it up not to talk as much about the Rutgers
- 49:02Speaker 1: game as I do for where Indiana is because we're
- 49:05Speaker 1: about to get a little Indiana interesting. Indiana, according to
- 49:09Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet, minus seven at Nebraska. Look out. 11 a.m.
- 49:13Speaker 1: big noon kickoff, so only a touchdown favorite, and then
- 49:17Speaker 1: they get Ohio State. It's going to be a tough game.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Next two weeks is fun.
- 49:20Speaker 2: But Nebraska can't play like they played the first 30 minutes.
- 49:23Speaker 1: They won't.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Or they will get run off the field.
- 49:26Speaker 1: I got a whiteboard right down here to my right.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Upset alerts on Tuesday.
- 49:29Speaker 3: It is about to get real.
- 49:30Speaker 2: Think about at Nebraska, Ohio State, at Michigan, Minnesota, who
- 49:34Speaker 2: obviously is better than anyone thought this year. and then USC,
- 49:38Speaker 2: and then at Washington. I mean, they've got multiple losses
- 49:40Speaker 2: probably coming up.
- 49:41Speaker 1: That stretch right there, I'm not sure the easiest game's
- 49:44Speaker 1: not Michigan.
- 49:45Speaker 3: It probably, well, Minnesota at home.
- 49:49Speaker 1: You don't know what Michigan's going to look like when
- 49:52Speaker 1: Tommy Carr is the starter. I mean, it's coming. You
- 49:55Speaker 1: think Bryce Underwood's days are numbered.
- 49:57Speaker 4: I do.
- 49:58Speaker 1: I mean, just DNA-wise.
- 50:00Speaker 3: The money that's invested, I don't know.
- 50:03Speaker 1: I mean, it is very much like the NFL.
- 50:04Speaker 7: It is.
- 50:04Speaker 1: How long it takes the NFL to give up on
- 50:06Speaker 1: a starter that they've invested that kind of money in.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Because they've invested that much money, they're like, we've got
- 50:11Speaker 1: to be certain we're done with this guy.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Look, and obviously against good defenses, he has looked more
- 50:16Speaker 2: than pedestrian. But that was one of the best defenses
- 50:19Speaker 2: he's played. He has looked better this year for whatever
- 50:21Speaker 2: that's worth. It's just not a good football team. Give
- 50:23Speaker 2: me another game before we get to the top of
- 50:25Speaker 2: the hour. Oh, let's take a look at Miami and Clemson.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Clemson competitive the first 30 minutes, and then it completely
- 50:30Speaker 2: falls apart. And it's almost like Cristobal was having fun
- 50:32Speaker 2: running it up a little bit on Dabo.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Yeah, there's some history there. Remember Righteous Jim Stone-Lox on Thursday?
- 50:38Speaker 1: Or was that Friday? It was Thursday. Told you, first half,
- 50:41Speaker 1: take nine and a half Clemson. That was the first
- 50:43Speaker 1: half line. That field goal got it to nine. So, hey.
- 50:48Speaker 3: Definitely threading the needle there.
- 50:49Speaker 5: But.
- 50:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 50:51Speaker 2: I don't know how good Miami is because you saw
- 50:54Speaker 2: Mensah play on the road against a pretty good defense.
- 50:57Speaker 2: And he looked good, but he didn't look great. And
- 51:00Speaker 2: I still don't trust Miami's defense. Clemson's just not a
- 51:03Speaker 2: good football team at all.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I have not paid close attention to this rivalry, if
- 51:07Speaker 1: you call it rivalry. But apparently, in the past, Dabo
- 51:12Speaker 1: has punched a couple in late. to run the score
- 51:14Speaker 1: up a little bit. There was one game at Miami
- 51:16Speaker 1: where they won like 58 to nothing. Yeah. So there
- 51:19Speaker 1: was some talk that Miami had not forgotten those things.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Now that the, now that the, uh, the, the bear
- 51:25Speaker 1: has the gun and this thing is flipped.
- 51:26Speaker 2: The, the, this is the get back here at Dabo
- 51:29Speaker 2: if you want it. Cause it seems like Clemson is very,
- 51:31Speaker 2: very gettable.
- 51:32Speaker 1: And, 58-0 was the score when they punched him in late.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Under Dabo, 58-0, 38-3, 42-17, 40-10. And I think either
- 51:41Speaker 1: the 40-10 or the 42-17, there was a touchdown that
- 51:45Speaker 1: Clemson scored under a minute or something like that to
- 51:48Speaker 1: make that score. And a lot of people say Miami
- 51:50Speaker 1: did not forget those things.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Well, and no discipline. Ten penalties, a couple of turnovers.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Tate Reynolds looks like he'd be really good at Northwestern
- 51:58Speaker 2: or maybe at Wake Forest. But what happened to elite
- 52:01Speaker 2: quarterback play at Clemson?
- 52:02Speaker 1: Yeah, they look really lost offensively. Here's Mario Cristobal hungry
- 52:08Speaker 1: after a win at Clemson. Awesome win for our program.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Getting on the road.
- 52:13Speaker 5: Actually, three straight conference road games for us. Started really,
- 52:18Speaker 5: really fast and put a lot of pressure on them.
- 52:22Speaker 5: Defense really became physical, particularly in the second half. Only
- 52:26Speaker 5: allowed six points in the first half. We missed a tackle.
- 52:28Speaker 5: A lot of big play in the second half that
- 52:30Speaker 5: led to their touchdown. But I felt we really put
- 52:32Speaker 5: a lot of pressure on their quarterback, knocked around the
- 52:34Speaker 5: running game. And this was good because four years ago
- 52:36Speaker 5: we came here with, when we had just gotten to
- 52:39Speaker 5: Miami with a very, you know, a roster that wasn't
- 52:42Speaker 5: what it was supposed to be.
- 52:43Speaker 1: And we got our faces kicked in.
- 52:45Speaker 5: So it was good to come out today and play
- 52:46Speaker 5: good football and give ourselves a chance to control our
- 52:49Speaker 5: own destiny.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's Mario Cristobal. You know, one of the big
- 52:52Speaker 1: pickups in the portal for them had two and a
- 52:55Speaker 1: half sacks in this game. Damon Wilson off the edge
- 52:58Speaker 1: was at Missouri last year, a force in the SEC,
- 53:01Speaker 1: and now he's part of the portal class at Miami.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Well, this is the first time you've really seen Miami
- 53:06Speaker 2: defense get after it this year. Six sacks on Clemson
- 53:10Speaker 2: Saturday night. Their schedule looks more difficult than it did early. Now,
- 53:13Speaker 2: the good news is they get everybody at home, but
- 53:15Speaker 2: Florida State is better than we thought.
- 53:17Speaker 7: Yep.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Pitt is obviously better than.
- 53:19Speaker 2: A lot of people thought. But those games are both
- 53:22Speaker 2: in Miami. Then they go to North Carolina, which they're
- 53:25Speaker 2: a little bit better. They got the Notre Dame game
- 53:27Speaker 2: on the road, and then they've got Duke and Virginia Tech.
- 53:29Speaker 2: But both of those games are at home.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Emblematic of Clemson football right now, though, is right before
- 53:33Speaker 1: the half, you've actually got something working offensively. You get
- 53:36Speaker 1: down in the red zone. I think it was third
- 53:39Speaker 1: and one or second and one. And it's 17 to three.
- 53:42Speaker 1: But you got a chance to make it 17, 10,
- 53:44Speaker 1: go into the half. And you're like, we're right in
- 53:46Speaker 1: this ballgame.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that puts pressure on Miami at that point.
- 53:49Speaker 1: And you jump. And now it's third and goal from
- 53:52Speaker 1: the eight. Then you get sacked. Then you get sacked.
- 53:54Speaker 1: And now you're like, oh, my God, are they even
- 53:55Speaker 1: going to get a field goal off, you know? And,
- 53:58Speaker 1: I mean, that's just emblematic of where Clemson is right now.
- 54:00Speaker 2: I mean, is it fair for Chappell to ask today
- 54:02Speaker 2: or tomorrow, what is Dabo's weekly?
- 54:04Speaker 1: I think it's Tuesday.
- 54:05Speaker 3: Tuesday?
- 54:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Chappell, Dabo, can we talk about it now?
- 54:09Speaker 2: Yeah, with two losses now. I know based on math,
- 54:12Speaker 2: you guys got seven more, I think it is.
- 54:14Speaker 1: I did not play the game, but I've looked at
- 54:16Speaker 1: the schedule and you've got seven more games.
- 54:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:18Speaker 1: I did appreciate the nighttime college football schedule. It allowed
- 54:21Speaker 1: me to put their Yankees Rays on main screen. It
- 54:24Speaker 1: was not great. I ended up having some baseball on, too.
- 54:27Speaker 3: It was crazy.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just the Yankees Rays. When I saw that crowd,
- 54:31Speaker 1: I was like, okay, main screen. Miami Clemson, slide these
- 54:34Speaker 1: over to the other. Then you go to the late,
- 54:36Speaker 1: late slate, and it's beat down on beat down in
- 54:39Speaker 1: the late, late slate. After the 2.30 window, it just sucked.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Clemson might not have another ranked team on the schedule, though.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're saying they're going to have a good record?
- 54:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you could end up going maybe 9-3
- 54:51Speaker 2: or even 10-2.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so fake. Yeah, ooh, 10-2, it seems crazy. All right,
- 54:58Speaker 1: when we come back, another hour, we'll do some more
- 55:01Speaker 1: look ahead in a pretty good college football weekend coming up.
- 55:04Speaker 1: We'll give you some hard rock bet lines for you.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Get to the NFL as well. And don't forget, two
