- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Kiss Breakfast. Here's Nat with a hit of
- 0:03Speaker 1: celeb news.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I've got an NFL story in a sec, but first
- 0:06Speaker 2: I want to talk about Alanis Morissette, who had huge
- 0:09Speaker 2: hits in the late 90s, I feel, or.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Was it early noughties?
- 0:13Speaker 3: Late 90s.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:14Speaker 2: You ought to know, ironic, hand in my pocket, so
- 0:16Speaker 2: many good songs. But she was actually the latest guest
- 0:18Speaker 2: on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, and
- 0:22Speaker 2: she spoke about how she experienced pretty severe postpartum depression
- 0:26Speaker 2: and And that similar to the Lindsay Clancy case, which
- 0:28Speaker 2: we were talking about not too long ago, she really
- 0:31Speaker 2: struggled to get the help that she needed from professionals.
- 0:34Speaker 1: She went to professionals. She could identify that she was struggling.
- 0:37Speaker 2: But once again, they just didn't give her the correct
- 0:39Speaker 2: support that she needed.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Take a listen.
- 0:41Speaker 4: And I reached out to so many therapists and all
- 0:44Speaker 4: due respect. One well-meaning therapist said, sweetheart, when it gets
- 0:48Speaker 4: really bad, just put your hands over your eyes. And
- 0:50Speaker 4: I spoke with a lot of really, really smart, supportive therapists.
- 0:54Speaker 4: postpartum support peeps. And it was still really, really.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Really, really, really, really hard.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And then I'd have.
- 1:00Speaker 4: People in the business going, what's going on with her now?
- 1:02Speaker 1: She's extra crazy.
- 1:03Speaker 4: I'm just like, all right, thanks for that beautiful chestnut
- 1:06Speaker 4: word again.
- 1:07Speaker 3: I had a girlfriend who really struggled with postpartum depression
- 1:11Speaker 3: and she kind of got similar treatment. Like they just basically,
- 1:15Speaker 3: they instantly just put her on antidepressants. They didn't really
- 1:18Speaker 3: offer her any help or guidance. And I remember she
- 1:22Speaker 3: said that her GP said, where is your mom in
- 1:25Speaker 3: the picture?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Like, is your mom there? You need to talk to
- 1:27Speaker 1: your mom.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Lean on her more.
- 1:28Speaker 4: What if you don't have a mom?
- 1:29Speaker 1: She was like, my mom's passed away.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And I was just like, what?
- 1:33Speaker 3: So dismissive of her.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And, like, this is.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Going back 12 years now.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Do you think it's got better?
- 1:41Speaker 3: I don't know because I don't know anyone having a
- 1:44Speaker 3: baby currently or going through postpartum.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I'd want to hope so.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I know that they do a lot to try and
- 1:49Speaker 2: educate people in the lead up to giving birth. Like
- 1:52Speaker 2: I know that their hospital offers the classes where they
- 1:55Speaker 2: specifically target the men in the relationships to say these
- 1:59Speaker 2: are the signs to look out for. Because in cases
- 2:01Speaker 2: like Alanis Morissette and Lindsay Clancy, who we've been speaking about,
- 2:05Speaker 2: they were able to identify themselves that something was wrong.
- 2:08Speaker 1: In other cases, the women don't.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Realise what's happening to them. They don't realise how bad
- 2:12Speaker 2: their depression is getting. So it is important that there's
- 2:15Speaker 2: a support person who's looking out for them because this
- 2:17Speaker 2: can happen to anyone. You don't even have to be
- 2:20Speaker 2: prone to mental health issues.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It's just you've gone through a change with pregnancy. I'm
- 2:24Speaker 1: glad that we're talking about it a lot more. It's
- 2:25Speaker 1: all to do with hormones.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Yeah, because your hormones are wild throughout pregnancy and then post.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Kane's having a fun time with that.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Sorry about everything.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Tell him it gets better. I'm better now.
- 2:38Speaker 2: First trimester, though, there was one particular, I reckon there
- 2:41Speaker 2: was a period of two weeks there where I was
- 2:45Speaker 2: not myself.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And I was.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Blowing up at things where at the time it seemed
- 2:50Speaker 2: so logical. But then I looked back at it the
- 2:53Speaker 2: day after or whatever, or now, and I'm like, wow,
- 2:56Speaker 2: what was I on about?
- 2:56Speaker 1: It's just, it's just, it's crazy. And it's so.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Emotional when you feel like no one understands you and
- 3:02Speaker 2: that makes it worse. And you work yourself up and
- 3:05Speaker 2: then you just, in the end, it isolates you more
- 3:08Speaker 2: because the more upset and angry you're getting, the more
- 3:11Speaker 2: you feel like people don't get you.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So, yeah, it's a really fun time. Women get you.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Women get you. They stand with me. Yes, we do,
- 3:19Speaker 1: in solidarity. Yes, thank you.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Now, the NFL, as you just mentioned before, is being
- 3:24Speaker 2: played today in Melbourne at the MCG. It's history-making because
- 3:28Speaker 2: it's the first ever in-season game being held in Australia.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It's the LA Rams versus the San Francisco 49ers. Kick-offs
- 3:35Speaker 2: at about 10.35am. The national anthem being performed by Australia's
- 3:39Speaker 2: very own Cody Simpson. Halftime show by the Jonas Brothers.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So, it's a really fun time.
- 3:43Speaker 2: The players have been doing a lot of press, particularly
- 3:45Speaker 2: the 49ers, who have been here for like a week.
- 3:48Speaker 2: So they've been chatting to Aussie media and stuff like that. Now,
- 3:50Speaker 2: this one player, his name's Dre Greenlaw. He's a linebacker
- 3:54Speaker 2: for the 49ers. He was asked in a recent press
- 3:56Speaker 2: conference if he'd tried Vegemite yet, which is the typical question.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Anyone comes here, like, have you tried Vegemite? But whatever,
- 4:02Speaker 2: we always ask it. And in this case, he'd never
- 4:05Speaker 2: even heard of it, which I found shocking.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Take a listen. Have you tried Vegemite yet? A veggie who?
- 4:11Speaker 1: A veggie who?
- 4:12Speaker 3: It's one of Australia's... The chips?
- 4:15Speaker 4: No, it's actually a dip.
- 4:17Speaker 3: A dip?
- 4:18Speaker 1: It's not a dip.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I did the veggie chips. Okay, I did the veggie chips,
- 4:22Speaker 3: but not the dip.
- 4:22Speaker 1: No, I got you. You don't eat it like a dip.
- 4:25Speaker 2: There'd be someone out there who's doing it by the spoonful,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I reckon.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Look, and you're right, it's the same old bloody question
- 4:33Speaker 3: to every American, but you've got to like Vegemite or
- 4:35Speaker 3: you're un-Australian, you know? Well, out of my three kids,
- 4:38Speaker 3: my youngest will not eat Vegemite.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Have you taught him how to eat it properly?
- 4:42Speaker 3: I've tried it, like the ratio to Vegemite, butter, all
- 4:45Speaker 3: of those things.
- 4:46Speaker 1: A warm pan de casser or sourdough loaf?
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And the butter?
- 4:50Speaker 3: He won't eat it.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And how do you do the Vegemite? The butter's got
- 4:53Speaker 2: to be put on it while it's... Scorching hot. So
- 4:55Speaker 2: it melts. So it melts into it and the butter
- 4:56Speaker 2: turns it like a dark yellow almost. And then the
- 4:59Speaker 2: Vegemite must be just scraped over.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yes, like 30% Vegemite, 100% butter.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah. You know what I prefer though?
- 5:06Speaker 2: What?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Marmite. No, it's not Marmite. Bovril. What's Bovril? Oh, Bovril's
- 5:12Speaker 1: a UK version. Well, it's similar. It's called Mighty Mite. Actually,
- 5:15Speaker 1: Chelsea or someone, can you Google that? Oh, isn't that
- 5:17Speaker 1: the New Zealand one? No, it's Australian. Three threes or three.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Sisters or something.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Did you hear that the Vegemite have released a, like,
- 5:24Speaker 2: less potent version for children. So now there's a second
- 5:27Speaker 2: Vegemite recipe. It's the first time they've ever altered their
- 5:29Speaker 2: OG recipe.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And for Americans even. And it's, yeah, it's a less
- 5:33Speaker 1: salty and intense flavor. I use Vegemite when I have ulcers. Oh, yuck.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Go this, the Mighty Mite 3-3s, Australian group.
- 5:42Speaker 1: It's, I don't know, it's like a bit sweeter. It's gluten-free.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I hate that in the ad they've done too much
- 5:47Speaker 2: Vegemite or Mighty Mite. Hey, can you look up that
- 5:49Speaker 2: Vegemite with mild Vegemite I'm talking about?
- 5:53Speaker 1: Kid's Vegemite. We don't Google our own things here.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Vegemite.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Oh, there you go. Oh, there. No, it's still Vegemite.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just kid's version.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I got a press release on it recently. Less salt. Yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 1: so it's basically not as intense.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I'd imagine it's like a watered-down version.
- 6:07Speaker 1: That would suck, though.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Can I tell you, the Vegemite is so good. When
- 6:10Speaker 3: you have an ulcer in your mouth, rub Vegemite all
- 6:13Speaker 3: over it. It stings really badly, but I swear it's good.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just because you're just putting it.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Salt.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, when you have cuts and they say you put
- 6:19Speaker 1: it in salt water, you're just rubbing salt in the wound.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I love it.
