- 0:14Speaker 1: You're tuned to The Sean O'Connell Show from the Murdoch
- 0:17Speaker 1: Chevrolet studio of ESPN 792.1 FM.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Sean O'Connell Show.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Welcome in the voice of the Utes, Bill Riley. This
- 0:40Speaker 1: conversation brought to you weekly by our friends at Handy
- 0:44Speaker 1: and Handy, HandyLawUtah.com. If you need any help with legal advice.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Bill Riley, welcome to the show.
- 0:51Speaker 2: How are you?
- 0:53Speaker 3: Doing good, Sean. How about yourself?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Doing okay. The pipes got nice and warm last night.
- 0:58Speaker 2: You had to call, what, nine touchdowns?
- 1:01Speaker 4: Nine touchdowns, a field goal, an interception, fumble recovery, some
- 1:07Speaker 4: weird decisions by referees.
- 1:09Speaker 3: But, yeah, lots of stuff last night.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Best thing about that first game for you in this
- 1:14Speaker 1: Utah football team? No major injuries, and I think the
- 1:19Speaker 1: offensive line looked pretty good, and I think there's a
- 1:23Speaker 1: lot of weapons that Kevin McGiven has at his disposal
- 1:27Speaker 1: for that offense, too.
- 1:29Speaker 4: I said this after the game. I don't know if
- 1:30Speaker 4: this makes any sense on the postgame show. Utah showed
- 1:34Speaker 4: a lot without showing a lot.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Does that make sense? Yes. Yes.
- 1:39Speaker 1: There were– it was creative enough– to keep you guessing
- 1:45Speaker 1: and make you wonder without going, I think all the
- 1:47Speaker 1: way into the old magic bag.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 4: He didn't have to go deep in the bag, but
- 1:53Speaker 4: just formationally, they just showed so many different looks and
- 1:57Speaker 4: so many different formations. And honestly, there are seven, eight,
- 2:02Speaker 4: nine different guys on any given, you know, series that
- 2:07Speaker 4: could touch the ball and be a dangerous weapon. So I,
- 2:10Speaker 4: I didn't know if that made sense. I said it,
- 2:12Speaker 4: and Zach Moss kind of got it. He's like, yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 4: that kind of made sense. So I think that's right.
- 2:17Speaker 4: I think they showed a lot without showing a lot.
- 2:19Speaker 4: So I thought it was a good first game. They
- 2:21Speaker 4: gave up the one drive where they made that one
- 2:25Speaker 4: guy look like Mike Allstott running back from Idaho. That's
- 2:29Speaker 4: a reference for some of you that are old enough
- 2:30Speaker 4: to remember Mike Allstott.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Put some respect on the name of Hayden Kincheloe.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Kincheloe, he just looked like a bowling ball that Utah
- 2:39Speaker 4: couldn't tackle on a couple of plays. But outside of that,
- 2:42Speaker 4: I thought it was a pretty good effort.
- 2:44Speaker 3: What about you?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought, similar to what you're saying, you did
- 2:48Speaker 1: what you were supposed to do against a Big Sky
- 2:51Speaker 1: football team with a couple of moments of mental errors
- 2:55Speaker 1: and some lack of execution. Didn't finish a play on
- 3:00Speaker 1: that– Tillman blitz. That should have been a big negative
- 3:02Speaker 1: for the offense and ended up being a 44 yard game.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Like you got to clean up those types of things,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but I also want to be reasonable and remember that
- 3:10Speaker 1: this is the first game of the season. And this is,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you know, first real action for some of these guys,
- 3:16Speaker 1: not for Tillman, but for some of these guys, it's
- 3:18Speaker 1: their first action, either in a Utah uniform or the
- 3:21Speaker 1: first real action period.
- 3:22Speaker 2: So you got to allow for a few growing pains here.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And of course we came in all off season long
- 3:29Speaker 1: as soon as, As soon as last season ended, one
- 3:31Speaker 1: of the major questions was, well, what's the offensive line
- 3:34Speaker 1: going to look like?
- 3:35Speaker 2: And they passed the test. This is a big win.
- 3:37Speaker 2: You kept Devin upright.
- 3:40Speaker 1: For the most part. It wasn't their best, I don't think,
- 3:43Speaker 1: but it was good enough. And I wonder how quickly
- 3:49Speaker 1: the improvement can come and will come and how much
- 3:52Speaker 1: of it will have to do with still getting the
- 3:54Speaker 1: right mix because they played a lot of combinations last night.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Well, yeah, they did.
- 3:59Speaker 4: I mean, Keith Olsen didn't play last night. He's going
- 4:01Speaker 4: to be a key part of what they do. And
- 4:02Speaker 4: they were mixing and matching some guys in some different spots.
- 4:06Speaker 4: When you tally 633 yards, the most yards you've put
- 4:08Speaker 4: up in 16 years.
- 4:13Speaker 4: That's, you know, that's a good number. And they've played
- 4:17Speaker 4: some teams and put up some numbers. I think the
- 4:20Speaker 4: offensive line, honestly, you know, is going to be a
- 4:22Speaker 4: little bit of a work in progress for a few games,
- 4:26Speaker 4: even if they settle on those five guys, just because
- 4:28Speaker 4: you're getting reps and getting used to playing next to
- 4:30Speaker 4: each other in game situations. Practice situation's great, but doing
- 4:35Speaker 4: it in game situations against another team's different. So, I
- 4:40Speaker 4: thought they were good last night. I thought they did
- 4:42Speaker 4: what they wanted to do. Devin Vampire didn't get sacked.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Bird Ficklin didn't get sacked. They ran the ball mostly.
- 4:48Speaker 4: But they did what they should have done against an
- 4:50Speaker 4: Idaho 1AA team. Now next week when Arkansas comes rolling
- 4:54Speaker 4: in with some SEC athletes and some good players, it'll
- 4:58Speaker 4: be a bigger test. But I thought for game number one,
- 5:01Speaker 4: they didn't answer all the questions, Sean, but they answered
- 5:04Speaker 4: a lot of the questions.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Do you think, because we got to see a lot
- 5:08Speaker 1: of people, as you already referenced, and there's weapons all
- 5:11Speaker 1: over the place. Do you think anybody surprised even the
- 5:15Speaker 1: coaching staff a little bit? Like LaMarcus Bell, did he
- 5:17Speaker 1: earn himself some more run against Arkansas and or Utah
- 5:21Speaker 1: State by what he did last night? Or is it
- 5:24Speaker 1: going to be compartmentalized because this coaching staff knows... who
- 5:27Speaker 1: he was going up against at what point in the
- 5:29Speaker 1: game he was being asked to do it and credit
- 5:32Speaker 1: to him because he took advantage of his opportunities. But
- 5:35Speaker 1: I mean, great things from him, great things from Steve Chavez, Soto,
- 5:38Speaker 1: and some of the guys who maybe we haven't been
- 5:40Speaker 1: talking about a ton in the preseason.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know that he jumps three spots on
- 5:46Speaker 4: the depth chart, but I mean, they like LaMarcus Bell.
- 5:49Speaker 4: This guy was the 6A player of the year in
- 5:52Speaker 4: the state of Oregon two years ago. This guy, 25 touchdowns, 1,500 yards,
- 5:57Speaker 4: number two recruit out of Oregon. So he's a really
- 6:00Speaker 4: good player, true freshman. I think what he does is
- 6:04Speaker 4: he and Matiaki Helu are now probably battling for that
- 6:07Speaker 4: fourth spot a little bit. You know, I think that
- 6:09Speaker 4: effort last night, although Helu was good, too. He had
- 6:12Speaker 4: three carries for 25 yards. I don't think you're supplanting
- 6:15Speaker 4: Wayshawn Parker, Daniel Bray, or Chavez Soto. But I think
- 6:19Speaker 4: what you've done is you've shown you can do it
- 6:21Speaker 4: in the game. And I think that if something happens,
- 6:24Speaker 4: I think now, you know, not that they don't trust him,
- 6:27Speaker 4: but I think it gives the coaching staff a little
- 6:30Speaker 4: bit more trust to have seen him do it in
- 6:31Speaker 4: the game.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Colton Swan calling his first defensive game in for the
- 6:37Speaker 1: university of Utah. And there's a couple of schools of
- 6:40Speaker 1: thought from both the offensive and defensive side of things.
- 6:43Speaker 1: You can play pretty vanilla. You can just tell your guys,
- 6:46Speaker 1: let's see what you can do. Let's see what you've got.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You're supposed to physically outmatch these individuals. We're going to
- 6:51Speaker 1: do our base defense all game. We're did not take
- 6:58Speaker 1: that approach. He went out there and he ran a
- 7:02Speaker 1: bunch of stunts. He was blitzing like crazy. He was
- 7:05Speaker 1: rotating a bunch of different guys. I was a little
- 7:08Speaker 1: bit surprised at how much we saw of that creativity
- 7:12Speaker 1: from the defense. Where did you think that was going
- 7:14Speaker 1: to play out?
- 7:15Speaker 4: I was a little surprised, too. The one thing I
- 7:17Speaker 4: would say is I think Utah, for all that aggressiveness,
- 7:21Speaker 4: I would have liked to have seen a couple of
- 7:22Speaker 4: more plays made. You know, like you mentioned the Tillman
- 7:25Speaker 4: play where that could have been like a 25-yard sack
- 7:28Speaker 4: for a loss. There was one play, you know, there
- 7:30Speaker 4: were a couple of plays that might have been turnover-worthy
- 7:33Speaker 4: type plays, but I like the aggression from Colton Swan.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I do. I like that. I don't know if that's
- 7:38Speaker 3: going to.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Be every game in game out maybe he just wanted
- 7:42Speaker 4: to cut these guys loose because they've been a little
- 7:44Speaker 4: bit more vanilla in fall camp and given an opportunity
- 7:47Speaker 4: to do some things so you know i like try
- 7:50Speaker 4: but trey reynolds was really really active last night i
- 7:53Speaker 4: thought you know defensive end ethan day had a nice
- 7:56Speaker 4: night last night rabbit evans who's back in healthy again
- 7:59Speaker 4: i thought he had a nice night last night so
- 8:02Speaker 4: i thought there were some guys that really popped last
- 8:03Speaker 4: night but i'm never going to be upset when a
- 8:06Speaker 4: defensive coordinator decides he wants to get after and be
- 8:08Speaker 4: aggressive It's.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Fun to see the stunts also give you a little
- 8:14Speaker 1: opportunity to see like what, when you put a young
- 8:17Speaker 1: player like a Carson Kalfusi in the right situation and
- 8:20Speaker 1: allow him to use what God gave him, the results
- 8:24Speaker 1: of some of that, you're like, okay, if you can
- 8:26Speaker 1: get more of that from Kalfusi, now we're cooking with
- 8:30Speaker 1: gas here.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 4: I didn't mention Carson, but he's a guy when I
- 8:34Speaker 4: talked to Luther Ellis this summer, I mean, he's got
- 8:37Speaker 4: a chance to be that next great Utah interior defensive lineman.
- 8:42Speaker 4: I mean, he's a sophomore. He comes from that Kofusi bloodline.
- 8:46Speaker 4: The Kofusis just keep coming in Utah and coming and coming,
- 8:51Speaker 4: and they're always hard workers. Carson's got a chance, I think,
- 8:54Speaker 4: to be really special. And he flashed that a couple
- 8:57Speaker 4: of times last night, got the quarterback sack for Utah.
- 9:00Speaker 4: So I think they, I think they're still kind of
- 9:03Speaker 4: figuring out with some of the new guys, the rotations.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I think the one guy they don't need to figure
- 9:09Speaker 4: out is Carson Kapusi because I think, you know, he
- 9:12Speaker 4: was locked in as one of the starters last night
- 9:14Speaker 4: and I don't think he did anything but reaffirm that.
- 9:18Speaker 1: As long as we're talking about legendary names and, and
- 9:21Speaker 1: bloodlines here in the state of Utah, when it comes
- 9:23Speaker 1: to football, uh, I did a disservice to Elijah Ellis
- 9:28Speaker 1: in this preseason, not talking about him enough. He's on
- 9:32Speaker 1: the field from the first defensive snap all the way
- 9:34Speaker 1: deep into the fourth quarter.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And it's clear that they want to use him a lot.
- 9:38Speaker 1: He has that kind of tweener size versatility that obviously
- 9:43Speaker 1: his brothers have possessed both in college football and And
- 9:46Speaker 1: in the NFL, they're going to use him to rush
- 9:48Speaker 1: the passer every now and again. He's still listed officially
- 9:51Speaker 1: as a linebacker rather than a defensive end. What did
- 9:54Speaker 1: you think of Elijah Ellis, his performance, and also the
- 9:57Speaker 1: way they want.
- 9:57Speaker 2: To use him?
- 9:58Speaker 4: Well, I think they pie he pie. a little bit
- 10:00Speaker 4: at the end of last year. I saw him in
- 10:02Speaker 4: fall camp. He looked good again. And I think kind
- 10:05Speaker 4: of the same way we talk about a guy like
- 10:07Speaker 4: Hunter Andrews as a weapon on offense, I think that's
- 10:11Speaker 4: kind of how you have to talk about Hunter or
- 10:13Speaker 4: Elijah Ellis on defense, because you can move him around
- 10:17Speaker 4: because of his athleticism and versatility. I mean, you've got
- 10:21Speaker 4: three really good linebackers in Polu and Reynolds and Hall.
- 10:25Speaker 4: He can play linebacker, but I think because of his speed,
- 10:29Speaker 4: his athleticism, and I think everybody named Ellis has a
- 10:32Speaker 4: nose for the ball. I think you can line him
- 10:35Speaker 4: up on the edge and just say, go after it.
- 10:37Speaker 4: I think he's that that weapon, Jackson, Benny's kind of
- 10:40Speaker 4: one of those guys too. You can line Jackson, Benny up.
- 10:43Speaker 4: If you told Benny to give you a couple of
- 10:44Speaker 4: reps of defensive tackle, he'd probably give you a couple
- 10:46Speaker 4: of good reps. So I think Ellis's role is only
- 10:49Speaker 4: going to grow as this year goes along. And I
- 10:52Speaker 4: don't know where he's going to end up or if
- 10:54Speaker 4: he's just going to be one of those chess pieces that,
- 10:57Speaker 4: that Colton Swan likes to move around quite a bit,
- 11:00Speaker 4: because I don't know that there's a defined.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Position for him.
- 11:04Speaker 4: I think we just, he's one of those guys you
- 11:06Speaker 4: just refer to as a ball player, right?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Football player is the ultimate compliment you can get from
- 11:13Speaker 1: a coach when you get to a certain level and
- 11:15Speaker 1: they tell you, oh, he's just a football player. That's
- 11:18Speaker 1: them saying you're the king of.
- 11:20Speaker 2: The world, effectively.
- 11:21Speaker 4: That's exactly right. So, you know, I thought it was
- 11:24Speaker 4: a good night. You know, I thought, you know, Special
- 11:27Speaker 4: teams were pretty good. I think Utah may have caught
- 11:29Speaker 4: a break.
- 11:30Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 11:31Speaker 4: I haven't seen a definitive angle on that punt return.
- 11:33Speaker 4: But then, you know, then Monica Valio comes back and
- 11:36Speaker 4: makes amends and gets a 25-yard return. Kicking game looked good.
- 11:41Speaker 4: They only punted once last night. So, you know, it's
- 11:44Speaker 4: an opening game. And you check the boxes. I wanted
- 11:48Speaker 4: to see the line of scrimmages be good.
- 11:49Speaker 3: They were. I wanted to see them get out of
- 11:51Speaker 3: there healthy. They did.
- 11:53Speaker 4: I think it checks a lot of boxes, and now
- 11:55Speaker 4: you've got a couple of extra days. To quote my
- 11:58Speaker 4: old friend Larry Kristowiak, he used to love to say, hey,
- 12:00Speaker 4: the price of poker goes up, and it will next
- 12:03Speaker 4: week because an SEC team comes in next week, and
- 12:05Speaker 4: they're going to have better athletes across the board. Coming
- 12:08Speaker 4: off an 0-10, 10 straight losses, they're probably not going
- 12:12Speaker 4: to lose tomorrow to Northern Alabama. But it's going to
- 12:15Speaker 4: be an interesting adjustment for Utah to go from a
- 12:20Speaker 4: 1AA middle-of-the-pack program to an SEC program that's got great athletes.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Bill Riley, our guest here on the Sean O'Connell Show,
- 12:27Speaker 1: talking all things Utah football. With that in mind, let's
- 12:31Speaker 1: get a little nitpicky on this first Utah performance because
- 12:34Speaker 1: it wasn't all pretty, right? There were some things that
- 12:37Speaker 1: you'd like to see cleaned up. If you're prioritizing, if
- 12:40Speaker 1: you're in the film room with Morgan Scali and his
- 12:43Speaker 1: staff today, Where do you think that primary focus is?
- 12:46Speaker 1: What is job number one when it comes to fixing
- 12:50Speaker 1: the few things that did go wrong in the Idaho game?
- 12:53Speaker 4: I think to me it's making the plays when they're there, Sean.
- 12:57Speaker 4: You mentioned the Tillman sack. Make that play. You can
- 13:01Speaker 4: get away with that in Idaho, but if you have
- 13:03Speaker 4: that opportunity against Arkansas or Colorado or Houston or BYU,
- 13:08Speaker 4: those are plays you've.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Got to make. So make the plays when they're there.
- 13:12Speaker 4: I thought Devin Dampier had a really efficient night last night.
- 13:16Speaker 3: He threw two balls off.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Of his back foot that might have been if he
- 13:20Speaker 4: was able to step into him a little bit more
- 13:21Speaker 4: touchdowns to Braden Pagan. I think the other one was
- 13:25Speaker 4: to Ricky Johnson, maybe. Anyway, I just thought they left
- 13:28Speaker 4: some plays out there, and that's going to happen in
- 13:31Speaker 4: a first game. But if I'm out there, I might
- 13:34Speaker 4: be circling those or bringing those up and saying, hey,
- 13:37Speaker 4: if we make this play, yeah, we're going to score
- 13:40Speaker 4: more points, but these are plays we have to make
- 13:42Speaker 4: against other opponents. Um, just trying to think of some,
- 13:46Speaker 4: some other stuff, you know, probably that one drive that
- 13:49Speaker 4: Idaho had, that was one Matt Morgan mentioned that the
- 13:52Speaker 4: post game show too, you know, you don't want to
- 13:54Speaker 4: give up a 13 play 75 or whatever it was
- 13:58Speaker 4: yard drive. And, you know, you made that running back
- 14:00Speaker 4: look pretty good last night. You'd probably like to clean
- 14:02Speaker 4: that up a little bit too.
- 14:03Speaker 3: What about you? Where, where would you go?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Well, like I said, we're nitpicking.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I was happy to see Colton Swan show us a
- 14:11Speaker 1: little bit of his personal flavor, but I also wanted
- 14:13Speaker 1: to see him test his guys a little bit and
- 14:15Speaker 1: just be like, all right, four-man rush.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Go get that quarterback. Create some pressure. Win your battle.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Idaho's got decent amount of experience on their offensive line.
- 14:24Speaker 1: So they get, they get some credit here as well.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Cause you know, those are scholarship guys too. But if
- 14:30Speaker 1: Utah football is going to be the team, I think
- 14:32Speaker 1: they can be this year. I need more from that
- 14:35Speaker 1: defensive front in the run game and in the past game,
- 14:38Speaker 1: you know, you gotta be able to flip that switch
- 14:41Speaker 1: and win your battle. and do it, you know, hopefully
- 14:44Speaker 1: more than once per game. And we didn't really see
- 14:46Speaker 1: that because a lot of the pressure was manufactured pressure,
- 14:50Speaker 1: if that makes sense.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Yeah, they got a little exotic. They've got creative to
- 14:55Speaker 4: do it. You're right, it wasn't just that traditional four-down lineman,
- 14:59Speaker 4: I'm going to line up, beat you around the edge,
- 15:00Speaker 4: and get to the quarterback. Now, with that being said, too,
- 15:03Speaker 4: it was a lot of three-step drop stuff, too. He
- 15:06Speaker 4: wasn't standing in the pocket for a long time, and
- 15:09Speaker 4: when he would flush, he would move pretty good. But
- 15:12Speaker 4: you're right, you would love to be able to get
- 15:15Speaker 4: a little bit of pressure with just four.
- 15:17Speaker 1: So I was kind of laughing about this in the
- 15:19Speaker 1: first segment, right? All off season long, we were talking about,
- 15:23Speaker 1: holy cow, look at this embarrassment of riches. There's only
- 15:26Speaker 1: one football. How do you share it around? Well, last night,
- 15:31Speaker 1: Kevin McGibbon was Oprah's favorite things. You get a carry
- 15:34Speaker 1: and you get a reception and you get a touchdown play.
- 15:37Speaker 1: you're probably not going to be able to do that
- 15:39Speaker 1: against Arkansas.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And, and maybe not against Utah state. And as this
- 15:44Speaker 1: season progresses, I think you have to kind of like
- 15:47Speaker 1: narrow the focus a little bit.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I have no doubt that way. Sean is going to
- 15:50Speaker 2: be leaned on heavily.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I have no doubt that we're going to see Devin
- 15:54Speaker 1: Dampier allowed to spread his wings, both in the passing
- 15:57Speaker 1: game and in the run game. Who else do you think,
- 16:01Speaker 1: if it does come down to, instead of what do
- 16:03Speaker 1: we have, 10 rushers last night, 10 guys with carries,
- 16:06Speaker 1: who are the maybe five that you see get the
- 16:09Speaker 1: bulk of the touches in the run game next week?
- 16:12Speaker 4: Well, I think it's always going to be Dampier. And
- 16:15Speaker 4: I think as we saw last night, they like using
- 16:18Speaker 4: Bird Ficklin. Um, I mean, bird's just a weapon. He's
- 16:22Speaker 4: just explosive, but I think it's probably those top three
- 16:25Speaker 4: running backs. I mean, Daniel Bray, way, Sean Parker and
- 16:29Speaker 4: Chavez Soto. I think those are going to be your
- 16:30Speaker 4: primary run game guys. I mean, I just, I think
- 16:34Speaker 4: that's what it's going to be. Um, but as we
- 16:37Speaker 4: saw too, Brayden Pagan is fast and he's big and
- 16:41Speaker 4: he's strong. They got him on an end around, but
- 16:44Speaker 4: I think in the traditional run game, um, It will
- 16:46Speaker 4: be the two quarterbacks and then those top three running backs.
- 16:50Speaker 4: What's going to become interesting though, too, is, I mean,
- 16:52Speaker 4: Hunter Andrews can run the football.
- 16:55Speaker 3: He was a running back.
- 16:55Speaker 4: He was an all district, all region running back in
- 16:58Speaker 4: high school in Texas, and he could catch it too.
- 17:01Speaker 4: So he is there. It's just that you, you just, there's,
- 17:07Speaker 4: there's one ball. There's about 10 different guys and it's
- 17:11Speaker 4: going to be, you know, Maybe it's the old, how
- 17:15Speaker 4: did you practice during the week? What kind of effort
- 17:18Speaker 4: did you give in practice? Because you know that, Sean,
- 17:20Speaker 4: the best motivator can be carries in a game for
- 17:24Speaker 4: how you perform in practice. So maybe it goes that way.
- 17:26Speaker 4: It's going to be the same thing in a passing game.
- 17:28Speaker 4: I think there's a pretty defined top three wide receivers.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I think it's Pagan. I think it's Johnson.
- 17:36Speaker 4: And I think it's probably Whittemore in the slot. But
- 17:40Speaker 4: Larry Simmons, when he touches the ball, makes things happen.
- 17:43Speaker 3: That should have been a.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Little nine-yard in-cut route that he turned into a 25-yard
- 17:47Speaker 4: pitch and catch or a 30-yard pitch and.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Catch last night.
- 17:50Speaker 4: So I think there's a top three, but a guy
- 17:53Speaker 4: like Simmons and maybe a guy like Scholes could threaten
- 17:57Speaker 4: that as well.
- 17:59Speaker 2: What games are you going to be watching this weekend, Bill?
- 18:02Speaker 4: I'm going to take an, I mean, I just want
- 18:03Speaker 4: to look at Arkansas. I know they're playing Northern Alabama,
- 18:07Speaker 4: but I just want to get a look at, you know,
- 18:09Speaker 4: Ryan Silverfield's team just to kind of see what is
- 18:12Speaker 4: coming in here this, this, this next week and see
- 18:16Speaker 4: what they look like again against a Northern Alabama team
- 18:19Speaker 4: that they should probably handle. But let's, let's see what
- 18:23Speaker 4: they look like on the field because it doesn't always
- 18:26Speaker 4: work that way. As far as other games that are interesting, I, Tonight, Miami-Stanford,
- 18:34Speaker 4: I mean, I know Miami's got to travel west, but
- 18:38Speaker 4: nothing really intrigues me there. Other games this weekend, I
- 18:42Speaker 4: kind of want to duck in and see what Houston
- 18:44Speaker 4: looks like. They're hosting Oregon State. Boise State goes to Oregon.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Is Oregon what we think they are? Are they going
- 18:52Speaker 4: to blow Boise State out? Does Boise get competitive in
- 18:54Speaker 4: that game? Kind of want to see that just a
- 18:57Speaker 4: little bit too. Clemson LSU is interesting, even though Clemson's
- 19:01Speaker 4: not ranked, you know, is all this stuff at LSU
- 19:04Speaker 4: is all this outside noise of distraction. Is it going
- 19:07Speaker 4: to be a distraction to the team or are they
- 19:09Speaker 4: focused on this thing? I think Wisconsin Notre Dame could
- 19:14Speaker 4: be interesting on Sunday too.
- 19:15Speaker 3: What about you?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you hit most of the ones I'm
- 19:18Speaker 1: going to be looking at. I, especially Houston. I want
- 19:22Speaker 1: to look at, I want to know what they are
- 19:25Speaker 1: before we see this Utah team go against them. Iowa state,
- 19:28Speaker 1: same thing. They got Southeast Missouri state though. There's not a,
- 19:32Speaker 1: it's not a real excellent slate of premier matchups in
- 19:36Speaker 1: week one, but we'll take what we can get because
- 19:39Speaker 1: football's back.
- 19:40Speaker 4: That's absolutely correct. And I, I'm just, it was glad
- 19:44Speaker 4: to have it back. It was just so fun to
- 19:45Speaker 4: have everybody back to stripe the stadium last night and,
- 19:49Speaker 4: you know, having an SEC, team come in next week,
- 19:51Speaker 4: a bicycle stadium would be a blast.
