- 2:09just for Fleshming from the YWCA is going to join us to talk about that
- 2:13a little bit later on. And got a lot to get to Now.
- 2:15Normally on Monday we do a second we called Mayor Monday, where we bring
- 2:19in a different mayor from one of the local communities talk about what's going on
- 2:23in their town. I started reaching out to various mayors last week about coming
- 2:25on, and I found out that they I got a lot of well,
- 2:29I'm in a meeting, I'm in a meeting. And then I started putting
- 2:30two and two together. You know, I'm not an idiot much. I
- 2:35figured out, Okay, apparently there's a big meeting somewhere going on. So
- 2:38a lot of the mayors are in Canaane Valley for conference right now. So
- 2:44with the absence of mayors, I thought, hmm, who can I get
- 2:46to come in the show, come on the show this morning to talk a
- 2:51little stuff. And I reached out to my good friend Steven Allen Atas from
- 2:53Ogden Newspaper. Stephen how are you man? I'm good And incidentally I'm now
- 2:58the acting mayor of of all the cities here in the Kanov Valley, so
- 3:02everyone until he come back or until he kicked me out. So I'm here
- 3:07for you if you have any I might be able to help you out with
- 3:08sanitation problems we'll see, but can lower in taxes, can fix any parking
- 3:13tickets or anything like that. Right, And I also want to say that
- 3:16you are the first ever guessed on the newly named Dave Allan Show. Now
- 3:22do you want to do the over under on? How many times I'm going
- 3:23to refer to it as five eighty life. Oh well, I'm gonna start
- 3:28keeping tracks, so don't worry. We will will have an over under.
- 3:31You win a jar of you know Halloween can nice. Well that's really going
- 3:38to change with the show. I mean, it was just a decision made
- 3:39that they wanted to change the name of the show to the day Valuin,
- 3:43I'm so probably gonna call it five eighty Live. I did my best to
- 3:46go through all these you know, live announcements that I do and literally took
- 3:50pen and like you know, we've scratched them all out and wrote Dave all
- 3:52on, so hopefully I won't do too bad. So all right, So
- 3:55what's what's new in the political world? You know, Governor Justice, Stephen,
- 4:02it's real card. It's almost a headline per fifteen minute time frame with
- 4:08Governor Justice. But I think you got a story coming out about the governor
- 4:13on a parking lot. Oh boy, I did. Yeah. I did
- 4:15a couple of stories last week that there was a couple of economic development projects.
- 4:19If one was the Morgantown Industrial Park Interchange, and they're going to build
- 4:24a bridge to connect into US one nineteen and Interstate sixty eight up there.
- 4:30It's a good project. It's going to be really helpful up there. But
- 4:32it turns out that the governor has had some interests on that particular industrial site
- 4:38going back thirty forty years, back to Big Daddy Justice. And it turns
- 4:44out it's just mineral rights. But it shows up on his financial disclosure reports.
- 4:47And I've always looked at these reports but that never popped out at me.
- 4:51But it finally did, and I got to the bomb of what the
- 4:55connection was. So they're a little bit of financial interest there. I don't
- 4:58know if it helps them or not. It's something most people didn't know about.
- 5:00The next thing is, you know they got the cybersecurity center going in
- 5:03at Marshall University. It's being built on the corner of Fourth and how Greer,
- 5:08Well, on the opposite corner of that. Apparently nobody knew about this.
- 5:12There's an empty parking lot right there. You can literally see it from
- 5:15Old Maine and it is owned by Governor Jim Justice, JMEC Justice and companies.
- 5:20Again, it's a good project, it's gonna be good that it's all
- 5:25part of Fourth Avenue renovation stuff that Marshalls wanted to do. But it's also
- 5:29something most lawmakers didn't know about at the time that they had voted for it.
- 5:32And Justice said the other just earlier this week that well, he didn't
- 5:38even know where they were building it. I got to take his word for
- 5:41that, but it's still just another thing that probably should have been disclosed.
- 5:44Yeah, and when, And that's available because you did stories on this,
- 5:46so people can keep people can check those out. Where can people read your
- 5:49stuff? Steven? Maybe I don't do a good job when you're on the
- 5:51show telling people about that. Where can people read your stuff? So many
- 5:55sources Parkersburg News and Sentinel, the Wheeling Intelligencer and news readers there, the
- 6:00Weird and Daily Times, the Inner Mountain of Elkins, and the Martinsburg Journal,
- 6:03and also the Clarpsburg ext plint A Telegram runs my stories as well.
- 6:06And of course any you know people can go online, they can you frequently
- 6:11re x them as this as a as a story. I'm still having a
- 6:14hard time, by the way, I appreciate some might just point out I've
- 6:15already said five eighty live once. I didn't even know I said it,
- 6:18but somebody texters point out that I've already said it once. So so,
- 6:21Jeff, if you could just keep like a running total of that, I
- 6:24would appreciate it. So I've already said five eighty live once. So we
- 6:28have a missing helicopter, uh, millions and millions in unpaid debt, and
- 6:32yet Stephen, people still love the guy, and I'm not hating on any
- 6:36more. Power to him. And barring some major legal issue, major legal
- 6:41issue or a health problem which you know, heaven forbid doesn't happen, Jim
- 6:46just is going to be the next US Senator. Yeah, I think so
- 6:47too. And of course, you know I've written a lot about these issues.
- 6:50Brad mckel any with Metro News has written a lot about these issues.
- 6:54For sure. It's not that we think you should care one way or the
- 6:58other, but we do think you should know about it and that helps inform
- 7:00your decisions. But yeah, I mean, we've known about governor's business issues
- 7:05now, going back to when he first ran for governor as a Democrat in
- 7:08twenty sixteen, and nothing's really it hasn't really stuck. Nothing has stuck since
- 7:13then. So yeah, borring, say, you know a personal you know,
- 7:15an illness which we don't of course wish on the governor, or even
- 7:19worse financial issue that could involve criminal stuff. Who knows down the road,
- 7:25I'd say he's in. And the Trump endorsement that came out last week,
- 7:29I mean, I mean that just pushes you. Does that surprise you,
- 7:31the Trump endorsement, or maybe even at the point because I talked to somebody
- 7:34who said it didn't surprise me, but it surprised me how early it came
- 7:39out. I agree with that. Yeah, it doesn't surprise me because the
- 7:42Trump's and the justices are friends. Justice is hunted with Donald Trump. Junior
- 7:48Justice switch parties with Donald Trump by his side. And so it's not surprising
- 7:55that he got this endorsement, but I think the timing is interesting. One
- 7:59source I talked to believes that they are trying to push and pressure US Senator
- 8:05Joe Manchin into going ahead and retiring. Apparently he told Howard Monroe last week
- 8:11that there may be a decision to come after Thanksgiving, once he gets with
- 8:15his family on what he's going to do, whether it's re election for Senate,
- 8:18whether it's president, whatever it's going to be. So I think there's
- 8:20some pressure to try to get Manchen just to hang it up. And part
- 8:24of that was that Trump endorsement. If Manchin, if Senator Manchen were to
- 8:28stay in the race for Sin, I don't think he will. Nobody thinks
- 8:31he will. But if he were, does he lose to Jim Justice.
- 8:35Look, I think Joe Manchin should never be discounted or counted out because he's
- 8:41a good retail politician. He's got a pretty good record of winning elections,
- 8:45and he also has significantly more money than Justice does right now in cash on
- 8:48hand. I mean Justice has about one point one point two million. Manchin
- 8:54has eleven million right now. So he's raising money without even hardly having to
- 8:58do much if anything. So if Manchin wants it, he can make it
- 9:03happen. But borring anything else, I mean, I think it's it's justices
- 9:07for sure. Steep the Night Adams from Ogden Newspapers. Is here a Dave
- 9:11Allen show bron to you borried by Husband's Pizza this month that your favorite Hussans
- 9:15get a large a ten inch Pepperoni pizza and any pizza da only twenty one
- 9:18ninety nine. Find your local Hustans for dining, delivery or pickup at Huston's
- 9:22Pizza dot com. I want to talk about the race for governor. I
- 9:24know Hoppy and the news team have been feverishly trying to work out some sort
- 9:28of a debate. I'm going to have a little bit more on this a
- 9:30little bit later on. That got a date set December seventh in Morgantown.
- 9:33Attorney General Patrick Morrissey saying, at least at this point he's not going to
- 9:37take part in it. I don't know whether that's going. Morrissey says Stephen
- 9:46that he wants to wait until after the filing period is completed, which is
- 9:48I think January twenty seventh. I think and he doesn't want to do anything
- 9:54until then, So as of now, he's not taking part. We know
- 9:58that the other three major candidates for governor are Hoppy is going to narrate it.
- 10:03It's going to be in Morgantown, streamed on the Metro News stations and
- 10:07also on the Metro News website. It seems like Steven, to me,
- 10:11there may be a little war of words because this whole thing has been you
- 10:16know, they've had two gubernatorial forums that were you know, everybody played nice
- 10:18with each other, and I've had all the candidates on at one time or
- 10:22another. It seems to me like maybe shots have been fired with delicate Capito
- 10:26in calling out mister Morrissey about not wanting to take part in a debate.
- 10:33Yeah, and I think a lot of the reason that the motacy people are
- 10:37pushing for after the filing period for any type of debate is it's not so
- 10:41much they think someone's going to get in. I think they want to see
- 10:43who's going to get out. Yeah, they're great wonders, but based on
- 10:46my conversations with people, and you might have had similar conversations, at least
- 10:50out of the top four, nobody's getting out at this point, nobody's going
- 10:52to do it, so it's just not going to happen, So why not
- 10:56engage in that debate? And I think actually, orris He will come back
- 11:00around. I'm kind of proving to some of the negotiations on this behind the
- 11:03scenes because I've talked of Hoppy and the Metro News team up there, and
- 11:07I'm going to be covering that for our papers when that happens. Whether Morrissey
- 11:11shows up for it or not, well that's on him. But he read
- 11:16that letter he talks about, well, the media shouldn't be the ones to
- 11:18set the terms set on our platforms. So he sent a letter to the
- 11:22other candidates, is what he is. What mister Morrisey did. Am I
- 11:24right about that? He sent a letter to the other candidates explaining his reasons
- 11:28for not wanting to take part, and he says that the media shouldn't be
- 11:31setting the platform That's right, But you know what, you're on our platforms,
- 11:33and in the case of TV and radio, I mean it's the people's
- 11:37airwaves. So those outlets have even more of an incentive for making sure to
- 11:41get that right. So you can go off and do your own thing and
- 11:45maybe he'll try to arrange his own thing, but you got to have some
- 11:48platforms to do it on, so you got to work with us at some
- 11:50point. So that's not a very good excuse in my opinion. And finally,
- 11:54stude, speaking of media types like us, you put out a tweet
- 11:58or an X or whatever they're called it out that I love and listeners to
- 12:01the show. I've heard me talking about this before. State senator and candidate
- 12:05for Attorney General Mike Stewart has been critical of the media, particularly local media.
- 12:09Let me read his ex tweet here. It's so fake. Decline of
- 12:13journalism national and local from fact finders and reporters to today's opinion based fake journalism
- 12:18is fatal to public trust in media. Local local reporters used to be better.
- 12:24It's sadly as fake and as lazy as a national outlets in tragic that's
- 12:31that was the the X if you will that was put out by by Mike
- 12:35Stewart. Your thoughts because you had some you had feelings on it. Well,
- 12:39I would take it more seriously on this topic if you didn't hang out
- 12:41with Ron Gregory. But that's another story. Yeah, Yeah, it's really
- 12:46one of those issues. Where example, he puts out a press release this
- 12:52weekend seeking press coverage for the issue going on in Sissonsville with the children that
- 12:58were in the barn. In the CPS response, in DJHR response, which
- 13:03has been suboptimal. We really don't know what's going on with that or what
- 13:07their response was, at least a couple of weeks later than you'd expect.
- 13:13So he's now on the bandwagon because it's getting a lot of attention to whatnot,
- 13:16and so he puts out a press release on that. But again this
- 13:18comes after going on to social media trying to rouse up his base of supporters,
- 13:24which are not happy with media and that sort of thing, trying to
- 13:28do this and what do you expect us to do? We're going to be
- 13:31looking at that side eyed at this point because you've spent the last little bit
- 13:35attacking us, and look, we've got thick skin. We're not doing our
- 13:39jobs if we're not getting attacked by politicians and candidates. But it's just one
- 13:43of those things where it really drives you nuts and you got to do better
- 13:46out there and see that. I'm not one who takes the attitude that all
- 13:50media is good. There are several media outlets, mainly on the national level,
- 13:54but obviously suck. I mean CNN one, MSNBC, Fox News Away
- 13:58and New Mac. Don't even get me started on news Max. And I've
- 14:03had my complaints with because that mail at times. But when you put things
- 14:07out there, as mister Stewart, mister Morrison and others have done, when
- 14:09you say the media, air quotes here, the media, and then you've
- 14:16tweeted x something out like that. But my issue with that, And that's
- 14:20all well and good. I do appreciate and I'm fine with that. As
- 14:22you said, we tend to have thick skin. But then when you turn
- 14:26back around to some of them have and said, hey, can I come
- 14:28on the show? Can you do an interview with me? I mean,
- 14:33we're not going to turn anybody down, and I would not turn anybody down,
- 14:35but that's that brings kind of hollow with me. Okay, you just
- 14:39got done, sane. We're fake news, as one candidate did, and
- 14:43now you want to use our airways, and now you want to use your
- 14:48in your case, the paper or the website or whatever. That's that's not
- 14:52cool. Man. You got to kill a kindness a little bit, you
- 14:56know, because I mean, I told this to someone the other day in
- 14:58regards to sort of similar situation with the debates, and this is going to
- 15:01sound pompus. I don't mean it to sound pompas. But the candidates need
- 15:05us more than we need them. And you've got to build good relationships with
- 15:09the press, and that's part of being a candidate. And when you are
- 15:13throwing bombs, you can do that. But then when you want the thing
- 15:16that you want covered, well, I mean, if I'm doing something else
- 15:20that day and you got a million different things, your thing may go to
- 15:22the bomb of of the list I'm working on. That's as all there is
- 15:26to it. Yeah, that's way it happens to this. What are you
- 15:28looking at today? What you what's on the Steven Allen Adams radar for the
- 15:31next couple of days? Sure, well, getting ready for leadership West Virginia.
- 15:35And you and I are you're a graduate graduate. Yeah, I'm about
- 15:37to be a graduate and we'll be learning about healthcare and the health needs of
- 15:43the state over at the Greenbrier. So looking forward to that. But I'm
- 15:46watching for a house speaker, as I'm sure you are. And drama continues
- 15:50this week. Actually, Mooney had a teletown hall this weekend talking about it.
- 15:54So, uh, somehow I got on that call, so I listen
- 15:58listen to that. So those are kind of the big things this week.
- 16:02I think everyone's waiting to see what happens with the House speakership is because we're
- 16:06getting closer to government shutdown time. We got the situation in Israel, we
- 16:08still have the situation in Ukraine. We have domestic issues, we had a
- 16:11border. I mean we need a house speaker Yeah, I would agree.
- 16:15Seeven Al Madams from OGG the newspapers. I appreciate you being here man.

- 21:15state, says a Texter. Texays Morris and Stewart need to get over themselves
- 21:22and their authoritarian leanings. Freedom of the press is our first amendment constitutional right.
- 21:26Typical garden variety politicians who have nothing else to run on but to blame
- 21:32the media pathetic. Text says, stop playing the game with Mike Stewart.
- 21:38He's so thirsty for attention. Make sure he gets dehydrated by not responding.
- 21:44Tex says it's pretty cool that Jim Justice are in the endorsement of a rapist
- 21:48while overseeing the biggest sex of you scandal with the West Virginia State Police,
- 21:51not to mention the absolute corruption and incompetence at prisons, Foster Care, and
- 21:56DHHR Rocketship Ride to the Moon, says a Texter. Texas says the most
- 22:02fake politician is Mike Stewart. He prostitutes himself for Donald Trump and will say
- 22:07almost anything to get elected. It is embarrassing as a taxer. We're not
- 22:11going to talk politics at least for like ten minutes or so. Guys Night
- 22:15Out is coming up this Saturday at Oaksfield in South Charleston. It's an early
- 22:18kick for the Mouth and Ears noon to be exact, as the Mouth of
- 22:22Eers will be trying to bounce back from that loss to Oklahoma State over the
- 22:23weekend in Morgantown. Things start at ten o'clock WVU facing Central Florida. It's
- 22:27a fundraiser for the YWCA Jennifer Fleshman, who is the program director for the
- 22:33YWCA Sojourners Shelter, joins us now to talk about it. Jennifer, good
- 22:37morning, welcome to the show. Good morning, Thank you for having me,
- 22:38Thank you for being here. Now, how many years has this been
- 22:41going on? Approximately? May have you couldn't have that micro scooting that microphone
- 22:45a little bit for me, Okay, ten years, nineteen years, and
- 22:48you've not been a part of all those. Oh I. So it's a
- 22:52noonkick, which makes things a little little weird, but we've done it that
- 22:56way in the past. But I'm sure it's still gonna be a great time
- 22:57in South Charleston this Saturday. Yes, it is FESTI festivities kicked off at
- 23:02ten am. We have our pre game. We have three oh four hole
- 23:04Hunters is coming to do a cornhole tournament. Prior to the game. We
- 23:11have food, all kinds of food. We'll have pulled pork sandwiches, macaroni
- 23:15and cheese, potatoes, Allen baked beans, all the good stuff we have.
- 23:21The beverage market is providing all of our ice cold beer, so unlimited
- 23:26beer for all of our people that want to come down and participate. And
- 23:30we have Stony Creek Cigars is coming and we have cigars for everyone. You
- 23:36got cigars, and you got beer, and you got food. You're going
- 23:38to get every guy in within a one thousand mile radius. You realize that.
- 23:42By the way, let me say this and the interrupt you here real
- 23:45quick. Greg Talbert from Charleston was our winner of the long hold the Log
- 23:49Show Log Home Show tickets. That's kind of hard to say, so Greg,
- 23:55congratulations. We get your tickets here at the station eleven eleven Virginia Treat's
- 23:57and Charleston pick them up during normal business hours. We'll be giving away tickets
- 24:00throughout the week here to that. So Greg Talbert, congratulations on that.
- 24:03All right, So I left you off with cigars, beer and food.
- 24:07Yeah, So, well, is there anything else to sect? I mean,
- 24:10my goodness, And let me just say this to the early call for
- 24:12the weather, and Brian Hughes and Spencer Radkins always tell me my buddies in
- 24:17the weather department that it's weather can't accurately be predicted more than about forty eight
- 24:22hours at advance. But as of right now, temps are going to be
- 24:26seventy five and about maybe in the low to mid sixties when things get started
- 24:32Saturday morning. But seventy five for high on Saturday. Not too bad for
- 24:34this event, and not too bad for late October. Not at all,
- 24:37not at all. We're really excited about the weather and hopefully everybody will come
- 24:41out and have a great time. So what exactly goes on? Hey,
- 24:47guys, For people that have never been, I've been, But for people
- 24:49that have, what exactly goes on there? Obviously you got the Mountaineer game,
- 24:52of course, okay, but besides that, well, it's the most
- 24:56fun tailgate south of the Blue lot. And we have food, we have
- 25:00ice cold beer, we have the three or four hole hunters is coming.
- 25:04It's a great, big tailgate party, is what it is. And everybody
- 25:08comes down, has a good time. Mullins brings some cornhole made out of
- 25:14toilet bowls, so it's nice. Oh yes, we have the money that
- 25:23the funds raise go to pay for things at the shelter that we can't use
- 25:30our grants for the shelter gets grants, and we have lots and lots of
- 25:33grants, but this is unrestricted dollars that will help us when a child comes
- 25:38in and doesn't have shoes, we can go out and purchase them. When
- 25:41a parent gets a job and they don't have money to buy certain color pants
- 25:47or non skid shoes, we can go out and buy them. So it's
- 25:49unrestricted dollars that is used for the shelter. And that's one of the things
- 25:53that I have learned in the times that as I said, I've attended Guy's
- 25:57Night Out in the past, and that I have learned in this is that
- 26:00there are so many different programs and services that are offered by the YWCA,
- 26:07And some people may be listening right now, I thinking I had no idea
- 26:10that they did that sort of thing. But there's so many different things that
- 26:11you do there. There really are. At Sojourners, we have people come
- 26:18in and they're having their worst day. We serve women with or without children,
- 26:23intact families, and single men. If they have custody of their children,
- 26:27they come in. So that's an important point. Let me jump in
- 26:30there, because people think, well, this is just a women's organization.
- 26:33It's not. No, it is not. We serve intact family. So
- 26:36if you're a married couple or a couple, you can come. If you're
- 26:41a single father and you have custody of your children, you can come and
- 26:45so Gene, we're talking with Jennifer Fleshman, who is the program manager I
- 26:48think as your top program director for the WHYWC. How many people generally speaking
- 26:52attend these things? Off the top of your head, Oh gosh, we
- 26:56have about three to four hundred. I was going to say I didn't go
- 26:59last year, but when the last time I was there, I would estimate,
- 27:02and it was a similar day to what we're expecting this Saturday, weatherwise.
- 27:04There's at least five hundred people there. Yes, it's huge. It's
- 27:07a great, big fun event. We have the best Wings in the Valley
- 27:11contest. I forgot to mention, yes, yes, getting them on that.
- 27:14Yes, we have several vendors this time that are competing. We've got
- 27:18Sam's Uptown Cafe. We've got the Red Carpet, the Olive Tree, the
- 27:22Cold Spot, the Bucket, Buffalo, Wild Wings and the Embassy Suites are
- 27:26all competing for the title of best Wings in the Valley. And that's a
- 27:30very coveted title. I know a lot of those folks that are affiliated with
- 27:34those particular restaurants and venues that you mentioned, they take that stuff really seriously,
- 27:38Jennifer. Absolutely, and we have two winners. We have a celebrity
- 27:44judge, well, we have several celebrity judges, and then we also have
- 27:48the people's choice, so everybody that's there at halftime is when we have the
- 27:52best wings in the Valley competition. Everybody gets their wings and they all vote
- 27:56on them. Yeah, and it's a good time. And again you have
- 28:00game being broadcast there so people can I'm assuming you have a like a big
- 28:03screen or something else that you can watch the game. Yes, Sadaro's has
- 28:07gotten us several different big screens, and we also have a great big projector
- 28:11screen, so there's several things there. There's also the best seat in the
- 28:15house so that we raffle away at halftime and it's a recliner from Big Sandy
- 28:22Furniture this year. And you get the best seat in the house, you
- 28:25get weighted on. People will bring your wings and your drinks and you just
- 28:29have a good time all by yourself at the best seat at the best view.
- 28:33Sometimes people sit in the chair and sometimes they don't, but you win
- 28:37the chair, so we will deliver the chair a couple of days after the
- 28:41game, and you get to keep that and so if it's a noon kick.
- 28:47You know, college games keep getting longer and longer, it seems.
- 28:49But let's say everything's over by three point thirty. I'm just gonna throw that
- 28:52out there. At the time, people still hang around afterwards at some point,
- 28:56do you just come mind, go okay, look, you really need
- 28:56to go home there, you know it's over. The old saying goes you
- 29:00ain't got to go home, but you got to get the blank out of
- 29:02here. So what you're saying now, you're more than welcome to stick around
- 29:06and help us clean up. Yes, yeah, there's a lot of that
- 29:07that goes on because it trust when you get three to five hundred guys and
- 29:11you got beer and wings and cigars, there can be a whole lot of
- 29:14cleanup going on there. Yes there is, But it's a great time.
- 29:17Everybody has a good time and it's fun and I hope to see everybody out
- 29:23there. And where can people learn more? Give us all the information they
- 29:26can go to Guys' Night Out Charleston dot com. All right, Guys Night
- 29:30Out Charleston dot com and give us all the particulars. Again, you're going
- 29:34to start at what time? Starting at ten am ten am. Kick off
- 29:38is at noon. We're having food all the way up, all the way
- 29:41through. You have food, We've got cigars, we've got ice cold beer
- 29:45from the Beverage Market. We've got the best wings in the Valley competition.
- 29:49There will be squares. There's the best seat in the house provided by Big
- 29:53Sandy Furniture, and there's also an auction. Okay, do you need volunteers?
- 29:57I mean, are there people? Man? I know you said volunteers
- 30:00to clean up, but I mean to for set up. Because I'm thinking
- 30:03right now that maybe some folks listening to us that are involved with various different
- 30:07type of cific organizations and things like that. So if people want to want
- 30:11to volunteer, bring their group out to kind of help out with this.
- 30:14Where can they get in touch with you? Absolutely, they can go to
- 30:15Guys' Night Out Charleston dot com and we have a sign up board where you
- 30:19can sign up. If you're not comfortable using the internet, you can always
- 30:22give us a call at three oh four three four zero three five nine four.
- 30:27It's going to be a great and I've a tendency to say great night,
- 30:30but it's going to be a great day. I guess because it's Guys'
- 30:33night out and every year, you know, with this new TV deal that
- 30:37the Mountaineers have, it kind of varies. You don't know untill about two
- 30:38weeks out when kickoff is going to be, and probably prefer it to be
- 30:42at night. But hey, the weather, as I said, as of
- 30:45right now sunny and seventy five. You can't beat that for October. And
- 30:49it's at Oaksfield in South Charleston. Ten am is when you open up the
- 30:55gates. Kickoff is at noon. Three to five hundred guys and others are
- 30:59going to be up there taking part in and it's all a giant fundraiser for
- 31:03the WHITEWCA group. Jennifer, I appreciate you being here, Thanks a lot.
- 31:06Thank you for having me. Jennifer Fleishman again the program director for the
- 31:10Sojourners Shelter of YWCA. Guys Night Out Oaksfield in South Charleston starts at ten
- 31:15am on Saturday morning. Kickoff set for noon for the Mountaineers. It's going
- 31:19to be a great, great day. Get out there and take it all
- 31:22in. The Dave Allen Show brought to you a part by Bridge Valley.

- 36:17So so do the name change. I think Coop probably said it best on
- 36:22Friday. They're doing a way with the name five eighty Live for the show
- 36:25to absolve themselves from any legal responsibility for any of the dumb things I may
- 36:30say on the show. That's what Coop said, Joe, that's my boss
- 36:35speaking of me here at where's a Roddy Dangerfield? No respect? So no
- 36:39more five eighty lives can be the Dave Aalen Schow At this point nine,
- 36:42I'm thinking it should be sometime, you know, next July before I stop
- 36:45saying five eighty Live. Really, no big deal, nothing changes, same
- 36:47lovable curmudgeon that you've grown to love, the one the liberals say is too
- 36:52conservative and conservatives says too liberal. So equal opportunity here. Coming up on
- 36:59talk LA today, he's going to have on James Bailey from the West Virginia
- 37:01Department of Commerce, more on the search for a house speaker in d C.
- 37:07Kyle Wiggs is going to have more on this Tyler Beagent story. Now,
- 37:09who is Tyler Beagent? You may ask, well, I'm going to
- 37:14have more on that coming up on the sp Well, I actually going to
- 37:16have more than that here in a couple of moments. So Tony Caredi is
- 37:21going to be on the show to talk about the Mountaineers homecoming lost to Oklahoma
- 37:23State, plus Rex Repass on Hoppy Today, analyes in some recent poll numbers,
- 37:29some talk line coming up at ten oh six. Now, this Tyler
- 37:30Bagent story, This is a rookie quarterback in the NFL for the Chicago Bears.
- 37:37And I probably paid a little bit more attention to this story. And
- 37:40I'm not going to spend a lot of time talking about sports, but I
- 37:44probably paid a little bit more attention to it because I married someone from Chicago
- 37:46and the whole family. You're all big Bears fan. Tyler Beagent is a
- 37:51native of Martinsburg and he played his college ball at Sheppard University. He was
- 37:55undrafted and signed as a free agent with the Bears, and due to the
- 38:00injuries and just overall bad play that Justin Fields had, he's the starter and
- 38:07he may get back and there eventually. But Tyler Bagent got to start against
- 38:09the Raiders yesterday and he put a whooping on him, had a great game.
- 38:13In fact, he was given the game ball by his teammates. It
- 38:15is really a fantastic story. Somebody just texted me and said I called him
- 38:22that. I called him Tyler. Yes, it's Tyson. I apologize.
- 38:24I've done that. I was telling this story to somebody last night, and
- 38:29I apologize. I got the guy's name wrong. It is Tyson, It's
- 38:32not Twner. I apologized for that. But anyway, Tyson was given a
- 38:37game ball last night. It's a fantastic story. He was undrafted from Shepard,
- 38:42a Division two school here in West Virginia, the first West Virginia born
- 38:46starting quarterback in the NFL since the nineteen sixties. Now again, Kyle's going
- 38:51to talk about it more on Hotpy today. I have got Joe Bricado for
- 38:54Metro News on the show tomorrow to talk about it. And there's plenty of
- 38:57places you can read the story about Tyson, not Tyler. I apologize for
- 39:01that, w W Metro News dot com and a Dave Aland radio on Facebook
- 39:05and the Dave Alland Show on x Just just a great story, I mean,
- 39:08you know, and the nationwide media is picking up this story. You
- 39:13know, not necessarily because of the West Virginia angle, but just because.
- 39:15I mean, it's a guy from a Division two school but starting for an
- 39:19NFL team, and also his dad is a world World arm wrestling champion.
- 39:23I learned that over the weekend as well. So Joe Ricatto is going to
- 39:25join us on the show to talk about that tomorrow. Kyle Wiggs, we'll
- 39:28talk about it on Hoppy coming up a little bit later on So Friday,
- 39:34all the news was out of Apple Growth a route to in Mason County.
- 39:37UH with this groundbreaking for new core. They even set a Guinness Book of
- 39:45World Records record for the largest groundbreaking in history, I believe it or not.
- 39:51There was a whole heck of a lot of shovels there Friday in Mason
- 39:54County. And what I like about the whole story, and Jeff has an
- 40:00end of story posted at wv metronews dot com about it, it's a number
- 40:04of people that are anticipating to be coming back to West Virginia or some just
- 40:13moving here to work period. I like the fact that officials there insisted on
- 40:20having a bunch of high school students there to let them see that once they
- 40:25are out of school if they choose to do so, there will be jobs
- 40:30waiting for them in their home county. So Point Pleasant, Wahama, Hannon,
- 40:35the high schools there in Mason County. They were all there on site
- 40:38for the groundbreaking and the rain on Friday, and of course on day one
- 40:45that new course showed up. They had a million dollar check which was given
- 40:51to the Mason County Board of Education. It's a seventeen acre site and they
- 40:55say it should take about two to three years to get it all done.
- 41:00It's a three point one billion that's billion with the B projects, and there's
- 41:07going to be nearly over the next couple of years about two thousand, two
- 41:12thousand construction workers in and out. Now that's not necessarily going to be at
- 41:15all time. I mean they're going to be there, you know, the
- 41:19entire time, but in and out about two thousand separate workers are going to
- 41:23be there to construct this thing. Now, once it's operational, it should
- 41:30provide about eight hundred permanent, full time jobs, with the average salary Jeff
- 41:36at about one hundred and thirty three thousand. That's the average workers salary,
- 41:40folks, not the executives. The average salary at New Core is going to
- 41:46be one hundred and thirty three thousand dollars annually. And this to use one
- 41:52of Hoppy's favorite terms, and I say that tongue in cheek because Hoppy hates
- 41:57this term. It's a game changer for West Virginia, and it isn't necessarily
- 42:04just big for Mason County. I mean people are already moving in houses and
- 42:12developments are being built. I mean we got a new Target in tays Valley.
- 42:16No, I'm kidding about that part that I think that was already on
- 42:20the table. But they did open, by the way, new Target and
- 42:22Liberty Square in Tays Valley. It's actually supposed to open yesterday, but it
- 42:25opened last week. They just said, you know, we're gonna open on
- 42:29Sunday night, let's open on Thursday or Friday, and so they did.
- 42:31But anyway, Putnam County is going to be one of the areas and is
- 42:35already benefiting from New Core, as is Canaw County and Cable County and all
- 42:44the surrounding counties. Because when you're paying an average salary of one hundred and
- 42:50thirty three thousand dollars a year, people will drive it to work there and
- 42:58as I said earlier, a lot of people well hopefully be coming back,
- 43:04and many young people will hopefully choose to stay there. And you know,
- 43:10lots of people want to point to all these big economic announcements that we've had
- 43:16here in the Mountain State over the last year or so as being directly related
- 43:21to the passing of the infrastructure bill that was champion by President Biden. And
- 43:27that isn't wrong. I know Republicans don't want to say that, but that
- 43:31isn't wrong. It played a big part in a lot of these announcements that
- 43:37are hearing. New Core though had been on the table well before that.
- 43:42But I will say it certainly did not hurt, didn't hurt this project,
- 43:49didn't hurt a lot of the other economic good news that we've been getting.
- 43:52But as others have pointed out, the infrastructure bill pass nationwide. So why
- 44:01is it that these companies are choosing West Virginia unpopular opinion here quite simply well,
- 44:09okay, popular maybe in West Virginia. It's because they like the business
- 44:14climate in West Virginia. They simply like the work that the Republicans in charge
- 44:23are doing, and are the policies of the Republicans super duper majority copyright Dave
- 44:32Allen, lal right reserved perfect No, No, certainly not. But as
- 44:38a card carrying member of the Republican business community in the state, Look,
- 44:45I don't agree with everything that the Republicans in power in West Virginia have done,
- 44:51nor should anyone agree with one of everything any party does. But the
- 44:55fact is many of these companies, these are choosing West Virginia over other states.
- 45:06The infrastructure bill which passed and my textures, and I love all the
- 45:09textures. They always point to that that infrastructure bill passed in all the states,
- 45:15So why are they choosing West Virginia when in fact, and we talked
- 45:20about this last week with Brian Dayton in the Chamber of Commerce, in fact,
- 45:22we have the lowest workforce participation in the nation. They are gambling on
- 45:32people moving here or after school staying here. And here's one thing that you
- 45:43need to take a look at and just be aware of we doing. We
- 45:49have the oldest state of the nation. We know that. So there's a
- 45:52lot of old retired people here, okay, and we have a workforce that's
- 45:57not the best in the world. Right now, you talk about out West
- 46:00Virginia workforce and the workout that all you want to but talk to anybody that
- 46:04owns a business right now, it's hard to find people to work. So
- 46:07what we're gonna see, and what we've already seen, is a heck of
- 46:14a lot of people moving into the area to take some of these jobs,
- 46:20not only at New Core, but at other places as well. So heads
- 46:24up to my Republican brethren, just be ready. They aren't all gonna look
- 46:31like us, and get ready, Granny, don't be freaked out when Haesus
- 46:37moves in, because it's coming. It has to and I'll move on.
- 46:45But you get the basic idea here, West Virginia is going to be an
- 46:49exciting place to be over the next several years. I'm glad I'm here.
- 46:54I ain't going anywhere, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

- 49:51okay, here we go. Texays they are choosing West Virginia because of the
- 49:54money and tax incentives use from the American Recovery Act. Lots of money to
- 50:00give to big businesses to come here. Well, why are again, why
- 50:01are they choosing West Virginia not other states? Tex says, we have a
- 50:05dwindling population here in West Virginia, millions knocking on the door at our nation's

- 50:14Where are all those busses of immigrants all the big cities are getting? We
- 50:17could certainly use them. Immigrants are the backbone of any major economy. Republicans
