- 0:50Speaker 2: And you guys know what time it is. We're happy
- 0:52Speaker 2: to be back. It's time for the NFC Podcast. preview
- 0:55Speaker 2: it's gonna feel a little bit like an NFC West
- 0:57Speaker 2: preview because three of the most dominant teams in the
- 1:00Speaker 2: NFC are from the NFC West but Mitchell I know
- 1:04Speaker 2: you're not gonna let me forget about.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Your Honolulu Blue Detroit Lions.
- 1:08Speaker 2: In the NFC North and we got to figure out
- 1:10Speaker 2: who's gonna win the East and then the NFC South
- 1:14Speaker 2: is gonna be the NFC South.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Richard it feels so good to be back man we're
- 1:19Speaker 3: NFL kickoff. Regular season's just over a week away. Richard,
- 1:24Speaker 3: this is like Christmas. Fall starts. The leagues are starting
- 1:28Speaker 3: falling here in Michigan.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Richard, I know.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It's starting to get a little bit cooler out there
- 1:32Speaker 3: in Seattle. Football is here. Thank goodness football is here, Richard.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Let's kick it off with the NFC West. There's been
- 1:40Speaker 3: so many changes in this division. A lot of teams
- 1:44Speaker 3: going through that for that title belt that the Seattle
- 1:47Speaker 3: Seahawks hold. Let's just start right off the rip here, Richard.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Who do you like winning the NFC West?
- 1:57Speaker 2: And I know Rams fans are going to be, you know,
- 1:59Speaker 2: they want me to say the Rams and they say
- 2:01Speaker 2: I'm a Rams hater. I'm not a Rams hater, but
- 2:03Speaker 2: to be the champs, you got to beat the champs.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I got Seattle winning it again. They didn't lose a ton. Obviously,
- 2:11Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker, they lost, but they feel really good about
- 2:14Speaker 2: Jadarian Price winning. um, continuity on the offensive line, Sam Donald,
- 2:18Speaker 2: another year in this system. Um, they feel great about
- 2:21Speaker 2: what Brian Fleury has brought, uh, the energy, the creative, uh,
- 2:25Speaker 2: aspect in the run game. Uh, I talked to Mike
- 2:28Speaker 2: McDonald extensively about that. He, he is really impressed so far,
- 2:33Speaker 2: obviously more game reps, you know, more time together, the
- 2:36Speaker 2: reigning offensive player of the year in Jackson Smith and
- 2:39Speaker 2: Jigba and having more time, um, just with the receivers
- 2:44Speaker 2: in general for Sam Darnold, and I think Arroyo's going
- 2:48Speaker 2: to come on a little bit more. Then you look
- 2:50Speaker 2: on the defensive side, and Witherspoon gets paid, and then
- 2:53Speaker 2: you look at the big cat. Leonard Williams gets paid,
- 2:57Speaker 2: and that D-line is still going to be incredibly formidable.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I think Byron Murphy is up for an all-pro year,
- 3:04Speaker 2: and sometimes he rotates off the bench, Mitchell, and you
- 3:06Speaker 2: rarely have teams where an all-pro caliber player can rotate
- 3:10Speaker 2: off the bench, and then Ernest Jones and that linebacker
- 3:13Speaker 2: core and however they want to rotate it. And Josh Jobe,
- 3:18Speaker 2: who they paid, I think, $ 8 billion this offseason to
- 3:21Speaker 2: man that other corner spot opposite of Witherspoon. And the
- 3:25Speaker 2: question mark is going to be that third corner. You know,
- 3:28Speaker 2: that's what they tried to bring Terry on in. He
- 3:30Speaker 2: goes on the commissioner's exempt list. So I think they
- 3:35Speaker 2: traded for a corner today. I think they're going to
- 3:38Speaker 2: spend some time trying to make sure that that other
- 3:41Speaker 2: corner spot, that third corner spot, is really secure. They
- 3:45Speaker 2: feel great with Julian Love back there and Ty Akata.
- 3:50Speaker 2: You know, a lot of experience. Guys who've played a
- 3:52Speaker 2: lot of good football in this system will know it well.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And I think they're going to lean on that. I
- 3:57Speaker 2: think they feel really good with their special teams. Really,
- 4:02Speaker 2: there aren't many weaknesses to this team. And if anything,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you look back at last year and you think, hey,
- 4:07Speaker 2: they had a quarterback who led the league in turnovers.
- 4:10Speaker 2: during the regular season, and they still end up with
- 4:13Speaker 2: one seed in the NFC. And then he goes into
- 4:15Speaker 2: the playoffs and plays at another level. He doesn't turn
- 4:19Speaker 2: the ball over at all. He just looked really good.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And when they needed him to be great, he was
- 4:24Speaker 2: great against the LA Rams in the NFC Championship game.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And he himself said he didn't have the best Super Bowl,
- 4:30Speaker 2: but the run game came alive in.
- 4:32Speaker 1: The Super Bowl.
- 4:33Speaker 2: The defense stayed alive, and they won him the game.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But I think if he plays, if Sam Darnold plays
- 4:38Speaker 2: at the level that he did during the playoffs last season,
- 4:41Speaker 2: if that's the level that we can expect going forward,
- 4:44Speaker 2: they're going to be a tough outfit to beat. They
- 4:46Speaker 2: haven't lost a game since they lost that game to
- 4:48Speaker 2: the Rams where he turned it over four times. He
- 4:52Speaker 2: had four interceptions, and even then they lost because the
- 4:54Speaker 2: field goal fell a few yards short. So you think
- 4:58Speaker 2: about that, and you think, hey, man, the last time
- 5:00Speaker 2: they were beat, it was a game where they still
- 5:03Speaker 2: technically could have won.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Richard, when it comes to the Seattle Seahawks, they have
- 5:08Speaker 3: a massive strength, and that lies in their front seven.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Like you said, their defensive tackle room, their defensive encore,
- 5:15Speaker 3: the linebackers are all lethal. They've got an embarrassment of
- 5:18Speaker 3: riches defensively. And like you said, there are question marks
- 5:21Speaker 3: about that DB3, and they've obviously brought in Terryon Arnold
- 5:24Speaker 3: and Trayvon Diggs in hopes to fill that position. But
- 5:27Speaker 3: when you've got a front seven like the Seattle Seahawks do,
- 5:30Speaker 3: I think they're going to find that answer pretty quick.
- 5:32Speaker 3: and this team will continue to dominate and be carried defensively.
- 5:36Speaker 3: That being said, and as you know, when you have
- 5:38Speaker 3: a defense as good as you have right now in Seattle,
- 5:41Speaker 3: it allows you to figure things out offensively. And like
- 5:45Speaker 3: you said, Sam Darnold got incredibly hot and efficient down
- 5:48Speaker 3: the stretch and led that team to that Super Bowl.
- 5:50Speaker 3: My one question, and I've voiced it all offseason, The
- 5:54Speaker 3: main position group I have my eyes on this year
- 5:56Speaker 3: is the absence of Kenneth Walker and the injury of
- 5:59Speaker 3: Zach Charbonnet. I know they brought in Jadarian Price. I
- 6:03Speaker 3: know the locals seem to love him and what he's
- 6:05Speaker 3: done in training camp, but he is a rookie. I
- 6:07Speaker 3: think there might be a little bit of growing pains
- 6:09Speaker 3: early in this season, Richard. That's where my eyes go
- 6:12Speaker 3: with the Seattle Seahawks team is can they establish the
- 6:15Speaker 3: run game? Because let's be real, JSN has established himself
- 6:18Speaker 3: as one of the top five receivers in this league
- 6:21Speaker 3: and is certainly a lethal weapon on that outside. But
- 6:24Speaker 3: my eyes go to that running back game.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And I, but I think somebody we're, we're, we're, we're
- 6:31Speaker 2: kind of disregarding in a way in this conversation is
- 6:33Speaker 2: Rashid Shaheed, who came in mid season last year, became
- 6:37Speaker 2: an all pro, wasn't all pro last season. As a returner,
- 6:40Speaker 2: he's going to have a better rapport with Sam Donald.
- 6:42Speaker 2: That's been talked about this entire off season and during
- 6:45Speaker 2: training camp, how much their rapport has, has increased. And, um,
- 6:49Speaker 2: Cooper cup, you know, it's not, not often you just
- 6:52Speaker 2: forget about a triple crown winner. Um, who's, who's playing
- 6:55Speaker 2: on his team, a young guy who got hurt last
- 6:57Speaker 2: year and Torrey Horton, another guy, this, this receiving core
- 7:00Speaker 2: is much more dynamic this year than it was even
- 7:03Speaker 2: at the end of last season. I think they're going to,
- 7:07Speaker 2: they're going to surprise people with how deep they are. And,
- 7:10Speaker 2: and maybe they do lean on the past game a
- 7:12Speaker 2: little bit more to start the season just because, Hey, they,
- 7:15Speaker 2: they got the quarterback, they got a veteran quarterback. They got, uh, uh,
- 7:19Speaker 2: an all-pro returner, playing receiver. They got an offensive player.
- 7:22Speaker 2: You got two offensive players a year at receivers.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Cool.
- 7:25Speaker 2: You lean on the pass game, and then you cannot
- 7:28Speaker 2: forget about A.J. Barner and those guys. I think they're
- 7:31Speaker 2: going to be incredibly dynamic. I don't feel like there's
- 7:33Speaker 2: going to be a weakness of watching them at training
- 7:35Speaker 2: camp and the way they utilize some of their weapons.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I think it's going to be a fun offense to watch.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I think obviously you have to give the Rams a
- 7:43Speaker 2: ton of credit. It's an arms race in the NFC West,
- 7:45Speaker 2: and we'll talk about the Rams and bringing in, I mean,
- 7:48Speaker 2: you talk about They kind of did what the Dodgers
- 7:51Speaker 2: did in baseball this year. You bring in Miles Garrett.
- 7:54Speaker 2: You bring Aaron Donald back. You go get McDuffie. You
- 7:57Speaker 2: go get Watson. I mean, you brought about as much
- 8:00Speaker 2: grade A, all pro, all world talent injected into a
- 8:04Speaker 2: defense as you possibly can. And that's what you need
- 8:07Speaker 2: to do in this NFC West. They're going to need
- 8:09Speaker 2: to stay healthy. And we're going to need to figure
- 8:11Speaker 2: out what Aaron Donald is going to do. Obviously, he
- 8:14Speaker 2: sat out for two years. He's the best in the
- 8:17Speaker 2: world when he left.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So.
- 8:18Speaker 2: You're not going to expect much of a fall off,
- 8:20Speaker 2: but maybe a little bit of rust early on, but
- 8:22Speaker 2: he's still going to be incredibly dominant. They're not going
- 8:24Speaker 2: to ask him to play a ton of snaps. He's
- 8:26Speaker 2: such a competitor. I'm sure he's going to be trying
- 8:28Speaker 2: to play the whole game the first time he's out there,
- 8:30Speaker 2: but they're going to make sure he's healthy throughout the
- 8:32Speaker 2: season and he's ready for the playoffs. Myles Garrett, same way.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Two of the most dominant defensive linemen to ever play
- 8:39Speaker 2: this game on the same team. It's just insanity, and
- 8:42Speaker 2: I feel terrible for terribly sorry for a lot of
- 8:44Speaker 2: these offensive linemen who have to deal with them. You
- 8:46Speaker 2: can't double either one of them. You used to need
- 8:48Speaker 2: three for Aaron Donald alone. You're going to isolate Myles
- 8:51Speaker 2: Garrett one-on-one with anybody. I don't think anybody wants to
- 8:54Speaker 2: be isolated with Myles Garrett. Even the best tackles in
- 8:56Speaker 2: the league don't want to be isolated on Myles Garrett
- 8:59Speaker 2: for more than one or two plays in a row.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And so they're going to be incredibly tough to stop
- 9:05Speaker 2: up front. Now, I know they paid a lot of
- 9:07Speaker 2: money in that secondary, but I think people are going
- 9:10Speaker 2: to have to max protect and run two- and three-man
- 9:12Speaker 2: routes to even have a chance.
- 9:15Speaker 1: To play with these guys.
- 9:16Speaker 2: So that's my concern there, but they've done everything they
- 9:21Speaker 2: can to really fortify this defense and give themselves a
- 9:24Speaker 2: great chance.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And then offensively, you look at them, they.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Used their first-round pick on their quarterback of the future,
- 9:33Speaker 2: They still have the MVP of the league last season
- 9:36Speaker 2: and Matthew Stafford at the helm. Anytime he's at the helm,
- 9:38Speaker 2: you got a chance poking the cool. One of the
- 9:43Speaker 2: most dynamic receivers in the national football league. No question
- 9:46Speaker 2: about that. And then you got Devante Adams. So it
- 9:48Speaker 2: looks like he's had an incredible training camp who looks
- 9:51Speaker 2: like he's spry and ready to go. And if they
- 9:53Speaker 2: can stay healthy again, these are going to be two
- 9:56Speaker 2: of the best teams in the national football league and
- 9:58Speaker 2: the NFC. I, if, if they were on opposite sides
- 10:01Speaker 2: we'd say these two would meet in the Super Bowl
- 10:03Speaker 2: but they're not on opposite sides they're actually in the
- 10:05Speaker 2: same division so it makes it tough but then you
- 10:07Speaker 2: cannot sleep on the San Francisco 49ers and the moves
- 10:10Speaker 2: they made but again their biggest enemy is health and
- 10:15Speaker 2: can they be healthy and they're battling that bug already
- 10:17Speaker 2: and we're only in training camp so I think this
- 10:21Speaker 2: NFC West is really, really dynamic. It's going to be
- 10:23Speaker 2: a fun, fun season to watch who comes in and
- 10:27Speaker 2: who comes out and who can stay healthy. If the
- 10:29Speaker 2: San Francisco 49ers can stay healthy, then I think there'll
- 10:32Speaker 2: be in a similar spot as they were last year competing, um,
- 10:36Speaker 2: you know, fighting against these two juggernauts up, up top
- 10:39Speaker 2: for a chance to go to the bowl. And obviously
- 10:42Speaker 2: they got killed last year in a divisional by Seattle
- 10:45Speaker 2: and they were outmatched out, man. And then they go
- 10:47Speaker 2: out and go get Mike Evans. Um, They go get
- 10:49Speaker 2: Stribling and draft him. So they knew they had to
- 10:52Speaker 2: get faster and more dynamic at the receiver position. They
- 10:55Speaker 2: also knew they had to get more depth at the
- 10:57Speaker 2: running back position. So they go get Black, and they
- 11:00Speaker 2: go get a few other guys who they feel comfortable about.
- 11:03Speaker 2: But the thing they didn't do that I was concerned
- 11:05Speaker 2: about is that interior offensive line. They didn't strengthen it.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Now we're late in the training camp. Training camp is done.
- 11:11Speaker 2: We're late in the offseason. We're about a week away
- 11:14Speaker 2: from the season, and they're trading for interior offensive linemen
- 11:17Speaker 2: because it's an obvious– place of concern but it's it
- 11:20Speaker 2: we knew that two years ago and that's the part
- 11:24Speaker 2: where i don't really get it you're about to go
- 11:26Speaker 2: against the most dynamic d lines in the league in
- 11:29Speaker 2: in la and seattle two of the the most incredible
- 11:34Speaker 2: d lines in the league and you're just gonna you're
- 11:37Speaker 2: gonna say hey we'll we'll figure it out as we
- 11:39Speaker 2: go against aaron donald you know i mean against leonard
- 11:43Speaker 2: williams against byron murphy jaron reed like that's what you're
- 11:46Speaker 2: gonna go with that's the plan That's the part with
- 11:49Speaker 2: the San Francisco 49ers where I'm like, the roster building,
- 11:55Speaker 2: I don't understand it to that. I understand with your receivers,
- 12:01Speaker 2: you want to have dynamic receivers. Unfortunately, you lose a
- 12:04Speaker 2: receiver early in a season to an MCL. Like, okay,
- 12:09Speaker 2: that's why you drafted and picked up depth and you
- 12:12Speaker 2: got all these guys. So I think you feel good there.
- 12:14Speaker 2: But the corner depth, is a question mark now. You know,
- 12:18Speaker 2: Rodardo Green was penciled in as the guy, you know,
- 12:22Speaker 2: opposite of our guy, Diamador Lenore, but he has a hamstring.
- 12:25Speaker 2: And then you don't feel great about Jack Jones. He
- 12:26Speaker 2: was up and down this offseason. He's up and down
- 12:28Speaker 2: throughout his career. And you have no real veteran where
- 12:31Speaker 2: you could say, hey, we just got a solid guy.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You know, you have no guy where you just say, hey,
- 12:37Speaker 2: we know we can depend on this guy. He's going
- 12:39Speaker 2: to be solid. And they're going to be searching for
- 12:40Speaker 2: that all season. And again, the safety position, you know,
- 12:44Speaker 2: you got young guys who, You feel good about Mustafa
- 12:47Speaker 2: and Jair Brown. He made some plays this training camp
- 12:51Speaker 2: and preseason, and he had some things to say back
- 12:55Speaker 2: and forth with Wittner. They were going back and forth,
- 12:59Speaker 2: and I'm not going to go back and forth with
- 13:01Speaker 2: the kid because I don't dislike the kid. I don't
- 13:03Speaker 2: dislike anybody. When you watch the tape, you criticize the tape.
- 13:08Speaker 2: You don't criticize the person. You don't criticize– The personality,
- 13:11Speaker 2: none of that. Like the game. If you're playing well,
- 13:13Speaker 2: you say, hey, this guy's having a heck of a year.
- 13:15Speaker 1: He's an all-pro.
- 13:16Speaker 2: But we're not going to sit here and call people
- 13:17Speaker 2: all-pros that aren't playing all-pro football. You want to be
- 13:20Speaker 2: called an all-pro? You want to be looked at that way?
- 13:21Speaker 2: An elite Pro Bowl guy? Then all you got to
- 13:23Speaker 2: do is put it on tape. And that's the thing.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Can he put it on tape consistently? He says, I'm
- 13:28Speaker 2: hearing positive reviews about the defense and everything they feel
- 13:33Speaker 2: about Raheem Morris' defense and how DB-friendly it is. That
- 13:37Speaker 2: sounds great. until you go out there and it's Puka
- 13:39Speaker 2: Nakua and Devontae Adams, then you got to go get
- 13:41Speaker 2: it done. You got to deal with Stafford. Play in
- 13:44Speaker 2: and play out. It doesn't matter how DB-friendly your calls are.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Can the D-line get home, put pressure on them? Because
- 13:53Speaker 2: if they can, you got to play, and you got
- 13:57Speaker 2: to cover these guys. And it's going to get exposed early,
- 14:00Speaker 2: whether he's taking a step up and this safety group
- 14:04Speaker 2: is taking a step up and giving the 49ers a
- 14:06Speaker 2: chance to be a good defense this year. Or did
- 14:09Speaker 2: they make a mistake not addressing the safety position? That's
- 14:12Speaker 2: why you can't put them in the same tier as
- 14:14Speaker 2: the Rams and the Seahawks right now because of those questions.
- 14:17Speaker 2: The Rams and the Seahawks don't have those kind of
- 14:20Speaker 2: lingering question marks at really pivotal spots.
- 14:24Speaker 3: It sounds like there's a lot more questions than answers
- 14:26Speaker 3: when it comes to the San Francisco football team. That
- 14:30Speaker 3: being said, three teams from this division made the playoffs
- 14:33Speaker 3: last year. Do you see the San Francisco 49ers making
- 14:37Speaker 3: the playoffs this year again? Because it sounds like the
- 14:39Speaker 3: Rams and the Seahawks are shoe-ins, but are the Niners,
- 14:42Speaker 3: do you like them to make the playoffs when this
- 14:44Speaker 3: thing is all said and done?
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel really good about the 49ers making it.
- 14:49Speaker 2: You know, Brock Purdy, healthy, a great weapon in Mike Evans.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You know, George Kittle potentially returning early on in the
- 14:56Speaker 2: season would be a huge boost to this team. I
- 15:00Speaker 2: think they're going to be able to put up points
- 15:01Speaker 2: with the best of them. That's something Kyle has always
- 15:04Speaker 2: taken pride in it's defensively. It's getting after the quarterback.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Like can, you know, Osa Adigizua is a great addition.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Can Nicholas John Bosa get healthy and stay healthy? Can
- 15:17Speaker 2: these young guys, Malik Collins and Mikael Williams, can they
- 15:21Speaker 2: get going? Can they be what people expect them to be?
- 15:26Speaker 2: Those are the questions that need to get answered. Obviously,
- 15:28Speaker 2: you know what you're going to get out of all
- 15:29Speaker 2: pro Fred and Dre Greenlaw getting those two back. is
- 15:32Speaker 2: going to inject a ton of confidence, a ton of energy,
- 15:36Speaker 2: a ton of chaos into the defense. I mean, you
- 15:38Speaker 2: can't really quantify or qualify the impact that Dre Greenlaw
- 15:43Speaker 2: makes on this team. Just brings an attitude, just brings
- 15:45Speaker 2: a physicality and kind of a, what's the word I'm
- 15:50Speaker 2: looking for? It's almost like a malice, Mitchell. He's mean,
- 15:54Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like people know where he
- 15:55Speaker 2: is at all times. So but it's still all that
- 15:58Speaker 2: could be great. And if they can find holes and
- 16:01Speaker 2: there's weaknesses in your team and you don't know who
- 16:03Speaker 2: the opposite corner is, is Renato Green's hamstring healthy enough
- 16:07Speaker 2: week one to, to be able to depend on him for,
- 16:10Speaker 2: for an entire game. I think he's going to be
- 16:11Speaker 2: really solid if he's in there, but if he's not
- 16:14Speaker 2: healthy at corner, your hamstrings are Mitchell.
- 16:17Speaker 1: That's like tires on a car.
- 16:18Speaker 2: If your tires are pop, you know, no matter how
- 16:20Speaker 2: great your engine is, you know, you're not going nowhere.
- 16:23Speaker 1: So, Who do they have if he can't?
- 16:26Speaker 2: I think they feel great about Upton Stout and the
- 16:28Speaker 2: versatility within Raheem Morris' scheme. I think that's another guy
- 16:32Speaker 2: they feel really good about. But some of these questions
- 16:35Speaker 2: won't be answered until the first game, at least for me.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I haven't got a chance to watch them practice, but
- 16:41Speaker 2: in the preseason, I haven't felt like I saw things
- 16:44Speaker 2: that really just made me give a deep breath, even
- 16:48Speaker 2: at the left guard position. I think they're going to
- 16:51Speaker 2: start Carver Willis, but do you feel great about that?
- 16:54Speaker 2: And I don't think you do. Do you feel great
- 16:56Speaker 2: about putting Carver Willis out there against Aaron Donald? I
- 16:58Speaker 2: don't think you do. Braden Fisk, do you feel great
- 17:03Speaker 2: about that?
- 17:04Speaker 1: I don't know, Mitchell. I don't. We shall see.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And before we leave, I feel like we've got to
- 17:09Speaker 3: touch on the Cardinals. The Cardinals are 100-1 odds to
- 17:12Speaker 3: win this division, Richard. Not the Super Bowl, not the conference,
- 17:16Speaker 3: the division, 100-1 odds. Is there any room for hope
- 17:20Speaker 3: in Arizona in your eyes?
- 17:24Speaker 2: Room?
- 17:26Speaker 1: Mitchell, room for hope?
- 17:28Speaker 2: Mitchell, there's a hair-thin chance. There's a razor's edge possibility
- 17:40Speaker 2: that they could not come in last. But winning this
- 17:44Speaker 2: division is out of the question. I just don't think
- 17:47Speaker 2: they're talented enough on either side of the ball. There's
- 17:49Speaker 2: too many question marks. there's, you know, it's a new staff.
- 17:52Speaker 2: They're going to have to get there, figure out what
- 17:53Speaker 2: they want to do. Even at the running back position
- 17:55Speaker 2: where you draft a guy, number four, you're saying he
- 17:57Speaker 2: may not even start, you know, he may be real too. Actually,
- 18:00Speaker 2: he's not going to start because he's coming. He's injured
- 18:02Speaker 2: right now. I think he got a high ankle sprain. So,
- 18:05Speaker 2: you know, you talk about Marvin Harrison Jr. And you're
- 18:08Speaker 2: not sure if he's even the best receiver on your team.
- 18:11Speaker 2: He's the highest drafted, but is he the best receiver.
- 18:13Speaker 1: On your team?
- 18:13Speaker 2: And I think those kinds of question marks, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 2: are going to get them going to get worked out
- 18:17Speaker 2: throughout the season, but It's going to be some growing pains.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Your starting quarterback, who is it?
- 18:23Speaker 2: Jacoby Brissett tried to hold out for a few more
- 18:25Speaker 2: dollars and got a few dollars. But who do you
- 18:28Speaker 2: feel great about? Who's the future of that franchise? And
- 18:31Speaker 2: I think they'll make some games fun. It's the division opponent.
- 18:34Speaker 2: They'll find a way to win a few division games
- 18:37Speaker 2: and show that they're an NFL team. But to talk
- 18:39Speaker 2: about them winning this division is very far-fetched.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Before we leave this division, Richard, let's just talk about
- 18:44Speaker 3: these first four games. I'm going to rattle them off.
- 18:46Speaker 3: You tell me how many the Seahawks are going to win,
- 18:48Speaker 3: the Rams, the Niners, Cardinals. Seahawks open at home against
- 18:53Speaker 3: the Pats.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Yes, at home against the Pats, on the road against Arizona,
- 18:58Speaker 3: on the road against the Commanders, and at home against
- 19:00Speaker 3: the Chargers.
- 19:03Speaker 1: That sounds like four, Mitchell. I feel good about them
- 19:05Speaker 1: going four for four. I agree. I agree.
- 19:08Speaker 3: The Rams, in Australia, playing against the 49ers, wild. Giants
- 19:14Speaker 3: at home, at Denver, at Philly. Challenging start for the Rams.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I got a three and one. Who's the one? Yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 1: who's the one? You want me to expose my picks?
- 19:30Speaker 1: I do. Three and one. You figure out who the
- 19:33Speaker 1: one is yourself, Mitchell. Fair enough. Who's the one? Okay. Okay.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Niners at the Rams, home against the Dolphins, home against
- 19:42Speaker 3: the Cardinals, home against the Broncos.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Three and one. Who's the one right now? Who's the one?
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, fans, figure out who's the one.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Who's your one in those picks?
- 19:58Speaker 2: Because I got them both going three and one, and
- 20:00Speaker 2: I feel really good about it.
- 20:01Speaker 3: And Richard, finally, the Arizona Cardinals at the Chargers at
- 20:05Speaker 3: home against the Seahawks. at the Niners, and at the
- 20:09Speaker 3: New York football Giants.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I see one. I see a possible with the New
- 20:16Speaker 1: York Giants. A possible. That's going to be a game. One.
- 20:20Speaker 1: One and three.
- 20:23Speaker 3: This game preview segment is presented by Netflix. Watch week
- 20:27Speaker 3: one of the NFL on Netflix. The Los Angeles Rams
- 20:31Speaker 3: versus the San Francisco 49ers live on Netflix Thursday, September
- 20:37Speaker 3: 10th at 8.53 p.m. Eastern time. Richard, who do you
- 20:42Speaker 3: think has the advantage going into this game?
- 20:45Speaker 1: The Rams. Oh, I thought we were already starting. The Rams, Mitchell.
- 20:53Speaker 1: The Rams. Who do they have that can block that
- 21:01Speaker 1: offensive line? You got Trent Williams and the Temptations. Mitchell.
- 21:08Speaker 2: And them temptations are very tempting for the Rams' defensive line.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And that's my concern there, is if you can't keep
- 21:15Speaker 2: Brock Purdy upright and you cannot run the ball effectively,
- 21:19Speaker 2: I don't see how you beat these guys. But on
- 21:25Speaker 2: the flip side, they beat them last year with a
- 21:28Speaker 2: skeleton crew and Matt Jones and Kendrick Bourne.
- 21:32Speaker 1: So, in L.A. So, I'm not saying it's an impossible feat.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I just.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Like, I'm having a hard time when I put it together.
- 21:39Speaker 2: When you put simulations together, you're like, how is he
- 21:42Speaker 2: going to get the ball off? It's Miles Garrett. It's
- 21:44Speaker 2: Aaron Donald. It's Fisk. It's a really dynamic defensive line.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And it's dynamic in the places that the San Francisco
- 21:52Speaker 2: 49ers aren't necessarily the most dynamic. Where they have the
- 21:55Speaker 2: biggest question marks, the Rams have the biggest strengths. And
- 22:00Speaker 2: you can't just slide and double team. And I know
- 22:03Speaker 2: the fans are like, oh, we'll just double team.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Whew. Who are you going to double team?
- 22:09Speaker 2: Just going to assume Aaron Donald is rusty.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Let's just go with that. Okay. We're going to go
- 22:14Speaker 1: with Aaron Donald is going to be rusty. We're going
- 22:16Speaker 1: to double Myles Garrett. Good luck with that.
- 22:19Speaker 2: You're going to leave a young rookie one-on-one with Aaron
- 22:21Speaker 2: Donald because that's the way they're going to line it up.
- 22:23Speaker 2: They're going to line it up to find that. And
- 22:25Speaker 2: I guarantee you he's never that rusty. Like, the thing,
- 22:29Speaker 2: it's riding a bike for him. Like, what made him great,
- 22:32Speaker 2: he still can do.
- 22:34Speaker 1: He's still quick, agile, strong. as an ox.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Now maybe his conditioning isn't there, maybe he doesn't play
- 22:40Speaker 2: 60 snaps, but if he plays 30 and there's 15
- 22:44Speaker 2: pass rushing snaps in there, hands are going to be full.
- 22:48Speaker 2: And so that's where the game is going to be
- 22:51Speaker 2: won or lost for the San Francisco 49ers. Can they
- 22:53Speaker 2: keep Brock Purdy upright, give him enough time to deliver
- 22:56Speaker 2: it to Mike Evans, to deliver the ball to his
- 22:58Speaker 2: receiving core? Can't they do it? And if they can't
- 23:01Speaker 2: do that, then that's where the issues are going to be.
- 23:04Speaker 2: And then on the flip side, The Rams are just
- 23:07Speaker 2: as dynamic and dominant of an offense as they were
- 23:10Speaker 2: last season. I mean, you had Devontae Adams get a
- 23:12Speaker 2: little banged up, but they're still a very tough outfit
- 23:15Speaker 2: to deal with. Just a very strong, consistent, one of
- 23:18Speaker 2: the best quarterbacks in the National Football League, and Matthew Stafford,
- 23:22Speaker 2: the reigning MVP of the league, and one of the
- 23:25Speaker 2: best receivers in Puka Nakua, and one of the best
- 23:27Speaker 2: receivers of all time in Devontae Adams. And you're going
- 23:31Speaker 2: out there, and I don't know who your second corner is.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I don't know if you can match up with these guys,
- 23:38Speaker 2: and there's too many question marks there. Now, if guys
- 23:40Speaker 2: step up and play a great game, can they surprise
- 23:43Speaker 2: the Rams?
- 23:44Speaker 1: Of course.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I think Kyle Shanahan and Raheem Morris are going to
- 23:47Speaker 2: have a great plan for the Rams. But at the
- 23:51Speaker 2: end of the day, sometimes it comes down to the
- 23:53Speaker 2: X's and O's, Mitchell, and sometimes it comes down to
- 23:56Speaker 2: the Jimmy's.
- 23:56Speaker 1: And the Joe's.
- 23:57Speaker 2: And can your Jimmy's and Joe's line up with their
- 24:00Speaker 2: Jimmy's and Joe's? Because there's going to be a lot
- 24:02Speaker 2: of yeses, But Mitchell is damn sure going to be
- 24:05Speaker 2: some no's.
- 24:07Speaker 3: I love it, Richard. And like you said, I think
- 24:09Speaker 3: it's going to come down to the San Francisco 49ers,
- 24:11Speaker 3: the X's and O's. Kyle Shanahan is going to have
- 24:15Speaker 3: to put together a masterpiece here. The good thing is
- 24:18Speaker 3: the Niners do get them week one. So if there
- 24:21Speaker 3: is any rustiness in the symbiosis of that defense for
- 24:25Speaker 3: the L.A. Rams, maybe the Niners catch them off guard.
- 24:28Speaker 3: We shall see. NFL on Netflix is back and better
- 24:33Speaker 3: than ever. Week one of the upcoming NFL season features
- 24:37Speaker 3: the division rivals Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco
- 24:42Speaker 3: 49ers going head-to-head in the league's first ever regular season
- 24:46Speaker 3: game in Australia. Airing on Netflix live from Melbourne Cricket
- 24:51Speaker 3: Ground Thursday, September 10th at 8.30 p.m.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Eastern Time.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Heading into the holiday season, Netflix will add the NFL's
- 24:59Speaker 3: first ever Thanksgiving Eve game on November 25th to its plate,
- 25:04Speaker 3: featuring the Green Bay Packers visiting the Los Angeles Rams
- 25:08Speaker 3: at SoFi Stadium. Continuing the Christmas Day tradition, Netflix again
- 25:13Speaker 3: has two games on December 25th. The Green Bay Packers
- 25:17Speaker 3: visit the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field at 1 p.m.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Eastern time, followed by the Buffalo Bills against the Denver
- 25:24Speaker 3: Broncos from Empower Field at Mile High at 4.30 p.m.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Eastern time.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Then in Week 18, with playoff stakes on the line,
- 25:33Speaker 3: catch the final game of the regular season, live on Netflix.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Watch week one of the NFL on Netflix, starting with
- 25:40Speaker 3: the Los Angeles Rams versus the San Francisco 49ers, live
- 25:45Speaker 3: only on Netflix, Thursday, September 10th at 8.35 p.m.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Eastern time.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Richard, let's turn our focus to the NFC East. There's
- 25:54Speaker 3: a lot of storylines in this division. Can the Dallas Cowboys...
- 25:58Speaker 3: Get back to their winning ways after a down year
- 26:01Speaker 3: last year. Can the Philadelphia Eagles overcome a little bit
- 26:05Speaker 3: of an identity crisis without A.J.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Brown?
- 26:07Speaker 3: How does Jalen Hurts respond? And then obviously the Commanders.
- 26:11Speaker 3: This was a team that was in the NFC Championship
- 26:13Speaker 3: game two years ago and looked like a shell of
- 26:17Speaker 3: themselves last year. And then John Harbaugh goes over to
- 26:20Speaker 3: the New York football Giants, and we're going to see
- 26:24Speaker 3: an identity shift in that team. How big of an
- 26:27Speaker 3: identity shift is that going to yield? Can Jackson Dart
- 26:29Speaker 3: rise in his second year? Can Cam Scadaboo stay healthy?
- 26:33Speaker 3: What's the health of Malik neighbors? OBJ's back. There's a
- 26:36Speaker 3: lot of questions with this Giants team that if they're
- 26:39Speaker 3: answered correctly, they could be a surprise in this division. Richard,
- 26:43Speaker 3: who do you ultimately like in the NFC East?
- 26:46Speaker 2: It's going to surprise a lot of people and I'm
- 26:48Speaker 2: surprised at myself even saying it. I like the Dallas Cowboys.
- 26:51Speaker 2: They're the ones I know what I can expect out
- 26:53Speaker 2: of and it's crazy. I mean, You talk about one
- 26:56Speaker 2: of the most dynamic offensives in the National Football League
- 26:59Speaker 2: with C.D. Lamb and George Pickens and Dak Prescott. You know,
- 27:03Speaker 2: if that offensive line can kind of hold it together,
- 27:06Speaker 2: they're going to need to be stronger than they've been
- 27:08Speaker 2: in the past there. But they're going to be able
- 27:12Speaker 2: to throw the ball around the yard. Dak Prescott is
- 27:13Speaker 2: a lot better than people give him credit. And I
- 27:15Speaker 2: say this all the time. He and Jalen Hurts are
- 27:18Speaker 2: probably two of the most underappreciated quarterbacks in the National
- 27:21Speaker 2: Football League. And sometimes do they struggle? No question. All
- 27:27Speaker 2: quarterbacks do. You can find a game or two of
- 27:29Speaker 2: every quarterback in the National Football League being off of
- 27:32Speaker 2: his game. But for the most part, Dakota Prescott is
- 27:35Speaker 2: going to be on his game. And he's got two
- 27:37Speaker 2: of the best receivers in the National Football League. George
- 27:39Speaker 2: Pickens is going to probably have a career year this
- 27:43Speaker 2: year and be looking for an incredible payday after this.
- 27:46Speaker 2: They're giving receivers $ 40 million now. So I'm sure he's
- 27:48Speaker 2: going to be knocking on that door or they're going
- 27:49Speaker 2: to have to franchise him again. But I think They're
- 27:53Speaker 2: going to be a team to watch in the NFC East.
- 27:55Speaker 2: And I know Philly fans are like, well, we got
- 27:57Speaker 2: the best defense and we got two great corners.
- 27:59Speaker 1: And you do. You have all those things.
- 28:01Speaker 2: But you're losing one of the most dynamic players on
- 28:07Speaker 2: your team in A.J.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Brown.
- 28:08Speaker 2: And I know they're like, oh, he was Butterfingers and
- 28:11Speaker 2: he was Drops.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Oh, how idle minds. Idle minds go awry, Mitchell.
- 28:18Speaker 2: You can't always take your worst moments for somebody who
- 28:21Speaker 2: left and use those to paint the entire picture. Devontae
- 28:25Speaker 2: Smith is going to be the number one.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Is he capable?
- 28:28Speaker 2: 100%. He's been dynamic. He's had big games. He's played
- 28:32Speaker 2: big in big moments. He can do everything he needs
- 28:34Speaker 2: to do.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Who's your two? Who's your two?
- 28:37Speaker 2: Can you depend on a rookie to really step up
- 28:40Speaker 2: and be that consistent too? And that's a tough ask
- 28:43Speaker 2: in a National Football League on a contender of a team.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And that's to be seen. That's to be seen.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I think their defense, the Philadelphia Eagles defense, I think
- 28:55Speaker 2: they're going to be fantastic.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I think they're going to be incredible.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I think they have arguably the best secondary in the
- 29:04Speaker 2: National Football League. I mean, not even arguably. You got
- 29:07Speaker 2: two all pros. You got Tariq Woolen coming into the
- 29:12Speaker 2: fold on a one-year deal. And everything we're seeing from
- 29:14Speaker 2: him and hearing out of training camp is he's been outstanding.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I saw him pick six.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts, I think he had two picks in their
- 29:20Speaker 2: scrimmage a couple weeks ago, and he looked really good.
- 29:23Speaker 2: And then you– Quinion Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, and they're
- 29:27Speaker 2: just incredibly talented and incredibly solid back there. And they
- 29:31Speaker 2: got a great defensive line. Jalen Carter got his money,
- 29:34Speaker 2: and he's one of the most disruptive big men in
- 29:36Speaker 2: the National Football League.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Jordan Davis had some repercussions. great moments. He's still a
- 29:41Speaker 1: fantastic talent. Those Georgia boys get it done.
- 29:43Speaker 2: So they're going to be amongst the top three defenses
- 29:47Speaker 2: in the National Football League. But I think the Dallas
- 29:49Speaker 2: Cowboys are too. And I know people don't want to
- 29:51Speaker 2: hear this. Nobody talks about Dallas for defense. And I know,
- 29:55Speaker 2: I know, I'll be the main one. But When you
- 29:59Speaker 2: create a defense as dynamic and aggressive as they have
- 30:02Speaker 2: in this defensive line, you got Quentin Williams, you got
- 30:06Speaker 2: Kenny Clark, you got guys that really attack up front,
- 30:11Speaker 2: guys that can really win one-on-ones and be disruptive. I
- 30:15Speaker 2: think Mitchell, I think they have a chance. You got
- 30:19Speaker 2: really young guys in the secondary. They just drafted Caleb
- 30:23Speaker 2: Downs and He's been making waves and showing his talent.
- 30:28Speaker 2: He's a little undersized, but he seems like he brings
- 30:31Speaker 2: an element of leadership and championship mentality that even veterans
- 30:35Speaker 2: like DeMarvion Overshawn have shown respect for. And he's a
- 30:39Speaker 2: dynamic player that they give back. Donovan Ezeraku is a
- 30:44Speaker 2: guy that they're going to be dependent on this year.
- 30:46Speaker 1: That front can be really formidable.
- 30:48Speaker 2: The NFC East, I've always talked about the Giants front
- 30:51Speaker 2: because they had all those first-round picks, those top-five picks.
- 30:54Speaker 2: guys that can get after a quarterback, but it's just
- 30:55Speaker 2: never lived up to the paper billing. And we'll see
- 30:59Speaker 2: if it does this year. I think John Harbaugh will
- 31:01Speaker 2: do a great job of just steadying that ship, you know,
- 31:04Speaker 2: maximizing the potential of this offense. And Jackson Dart, and
- 31:08Speaker 2: if Malik Nabors can come back healthy, and Odell Beckham Jr.,
- 31:12Speaker 2: whatever he has left in a tank, and Isaiah Likely
- 31:15Speaker 2: is likely to be the number one target for a
- 31:16Speaker 2: little while early in the season as they figure out
- 31:19Speaker 2: if these receivers can be healthy enough to really carry
- 31:22Speaker 2: the load going forward um I think Jackson Dart is
- 31:25Speaker 2: going to be fun to watch he's always fun to
- 31:27Speaker 2: watch that defensive line can be really disruptive but I
- 31:30Speaker 2: just don't know if they have enough this season to
- 31:33Speaker 2: to really to find a way to win the NFC
- 31:36Speaker 2: East I think the NFC East goes through Dallas um
- 31:40Speaker 2: surprisingly this year and I know the Philly fans are
- 31:42Speaker 2: gonna gonna kill me for that and be like oh
- 31:43Speaker 2: we beat Dallas and we do all this that's just
- 31:46Speaker 2: my opinion that's just what I feel Philly has been
- 31:48Speaker 2: fantastic I think The departure of A.J. Brown is going
- 31:51Speaker 2: to have a bigger impact than they think over there
- 31:53Speaker 2: in Philadelphia.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Let's talk a little bit about the Washington Commanders, the
- 31:57Speaker 3: one team that you left out here. They kind of
- 32:00Speaker 3: went this high and low two years ago, coming out
- 32:03Speaker 3: of nowhere, making their run to the NFC Championship game.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Jaden Daniels looking like a top five quarterback in the making.
- 32:10Speaker 3: And then this past year, he gets hurt. The team
- 32:13Speaker 3: kind of loses their identity, their swagger. They were struggling defensively, offensively.
- 32:18Speaker 3: They could never really find their true footing throughout the season.
- 32:23Speaker 3: You know, this team is getting overlooked going into the season.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Do you think Jaden Daniels can have a bounce-back year
- 32:28Speaker 3: and help this team back into the playoffs?
- 32:30Speaker 2: Do I think Jaden Daniels can have a bounce-back year? Yes,
- 32:35Speaker 2: I think he can. I think they've given him some weapons.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I like what I've seen from, obviously, Stephon Diggs is
- 32:42Speaker 2: a proven veteran. Terry McLaurin is a proven veteran. Antonio
- 32:46Speaker 2: Williams has shown some flashes in training camp. Like, how
- 32:49Speaker 2: real is that during the season? Jacory Kroski-Merritt showed some
- 32:55Speaker 2: flashes last season, but he's been a little banged up.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Can Rashad White bring a different element to that offense?
- 33:03Speaker 2: There's some question marks on the offensive line, and then defensively,
- 33:07Speaker 2: there are a lot of question marks.
- 33:09Speaker 1: It's almost all question marks.
- 33:11Speaker 2: So, you know, outside of Deron Payne and Javon Kinlaw,
- 33:15Speaker 2: you know, you look to see, you know, I think
- 33:17Speaker 2: I like Frankie Lou Vu, but a lot of guys
- 33:21Speaker 2: are going to be looking to prove themselves and show
- 33:23Speaker 2: that they can be elite NFL talents. And, you know,
- 33:27Speaker 2: those questions will be answered throughout the season. So I
- 33:29Speaker 2: don't have a ton to really say until they're able
- 33:32Speaker 2: to put it on tape and really show people what
- 33:35Speaker 2: they're going to be. I think offensively, they have the potential,
- 33:38Speaker 2: they have the bones, they have the structure to potentially have.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Some cool moments.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I think Dan Quinn is going to have these guys
- 33:44Speaker 2: playing inspired football because he's a great football coach. But
- 33:48Speaker 2: I think a lot of it is to be seen
- 33:51Speaker 2: the same with, you know, the, the, the New York giants,
- 33:54Speaker 2: you know, you there's some things that could be great ingredients,
- 34:00Speaker 2: but it's to be seen how, how John Harbaugh can
- 34:03Speaker 2: really get the best out of these young men. But
- 34:05Speaker 2: I think with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, they're
- 34:07Speaker 2: going to be battling for supremacy in this division. Once again,
- 34:10Speaker 2: And I think that Dallas has a really good chance
- 34:12Speaker 2: this year if they can play up to their potential.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I like Dallas, too.
- 34:16Speaker 3: I think the one team to look out for in
- 34:17Speaker 3: this division are those New York Giants. I like bringing
- 34:21Speaker 3: in John Harbaugh. He brought a ton of vets in
- 34:23Speaker 3: this offseason. I think we're going to see an identity
- 34:25Speaker 3: shift with that team. I wouldn't be shocked if they
- 34:28Speaker 3: won eight or nine games this year, Richard, and surprise
- 34:31Speaker 3: some teams and knock off some favorites.
- 34:35Speaker 1: So we'll see.
- 34:35Speaker 3: But before we leave this division, let's do the same
- 34:38Speaker 3: exercise again. Four games. Let's start with Philly. They play
- 34:42Speaker 3: the Commanders at home, Titans at home, at Chicago, and
- 34:47Speaker 3: then at home against the Rams. Your thoughts on these
- 34:50Speaker 3: first four?
- 34:55Speaker 1: I think they're 3-1.
- 34:59Speaker 3: I'm guessing the one's the Rams.
- 35:01Speaker 1: The Cowboys. I don't know. Fair point. I guess we'll
- 35:05Speaker 1: never know. The Cowboys. The Cowboys.
- 35:08Speaker 3: At the giants at home against the commanders and Ravens
- 35:11Speaker 3: and Texans. How much do you like this Cowboys team
- 35:15Speaker 3: for real? Are they four or no out the gates?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Three and one. I see.
- 35:22Speaker 2: It's just the national football league and there's always unpredictable things. Um,
- 35:27Speaker 2: you know, there's some really, there's just, there's.
- 35:31Speaker 1: A defense on that schedule that makes everybody's life really difficult. And, uh,
- 35:36Speaker 1: I expect that to be true with the Cowboys as well.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Fair enough.
- 35:40Speaker 3: And the commanders at Philly, at Dallas, at home against
- 35:44Speaker 3: your Seattle Seahawks and then at home against the Indianapolis Colts.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Tough way to open the season.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Yikes. Yikes. It's not the way I want to open it.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I got them one in three or all in four. Wow.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Depending on what the Colts can do and how Daniel,
- 35:59Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like what are the Colts
- 36:01Speaker 2: going to look like going forward? Um, Jonathan Taylor and,
- 36:06Speaker 2: you know, they've had, you know, they've shown a little
- 36:09Speaker 2: Jekyll and Hyde throughout their season. So it depends on
- 36:12Speaker 2: which Colts show up, but we'll go with 1-3.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Very fair.
- 36:16Speaker 3: And then the Giants at home against the Cowboys, Rams,
- 36:19Speaker 3: and then they got the Titans and Cardinals. Your thoughts
- 36:23Speaker 3: on their start?
- 36:25Speaker 1: 2-2. Giants 2-2. I'm giving you 2-2. Don't disappoint me.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Give them hope. Give them hope.
- 36:30Speaker 2: One thing I love about the summer, Mitchell, is how
- 36:32Speaker 2: easy everything feels. The days are a little more relaxed,
- 36:35Speaker 2: and I find myself reaching for the same comfortable go-anywhere
- 36:40Speaker 2: pieces again and again.
- 36:42Speaker 1: That's why I keep coming back to Quince.
- 36:44Speaker 3: I tell you what, Richard, I've spoke about it a
- 36:46Speaker 3: number of times. I got these cashmere joggers, right? Black, beautiful.
- 36:51Speaker 3: They're perfect, man. Summer nights, chilling out, you know, on
- 36:55Speaker 3: the patio.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I throw them on. I've enjoyed them so much. And
- 36:58Speaker 1: it's not just clothing.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Quince has become a trusted favorite for everything from home
- 37:03Speaker 3: to travel to everyday essentials. You guys have got to
- 37:06Speaker 3: check them out if you haven't already.

- 37:25Speaker 2: slash Richard for free shipping and 365 day returns. quince.com
- 37:30Speaker 2: forward slash Richard.
- 37:32Speaker 3: All right, Richard, let's move on to the NFC North.
- 37:35Speaker 3: You know, a division that is near and dear to
- 37:38Speaker 3: my heart with my Honolulu Blue Boys, the Detroit Lions. Richard,
- 37:42Speaker 3: there's a lot of question marks swirling in this division
- 37:45Speaker 3: as well. I mean, The Detroit Lions finished dead last
- 37:49Speaker 3: in the division last year. A lot of roster turnover
- 37:53Speaker 3: this year. I think the team was the most injured
- 37:56Speaker 3: or one of the most injured teams in the NFL
- 37:58Speaker 3: last year and have been the last couple of years.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Then you look at the Chicago Bears. I mean, Caleb
- 38:03Speaker 3: Williams had a great second year. Can he continue on that?
- 38:08Speaker 3: They won the division last year. The Packers, can they
- 38:10Speaker 3: refine their ground in this division? Obviously, Jordan Love, this
- 38:15Speaker 3: is his team. How good can he truly be? And
- 38:18Speaker 3: then the Minnesota Vikings, a team that was 13-4 two
- 38:22Speaker 3: years ago that gave up on Sam Darnold, went in
- 38:24Speaker 3: the direction of J.J. McCarthy, and now has landed on
- 38:27Speaker 3: Kyler Murray. What does Kyler Murray do to that offense,
- 38:31Speaker 3: and how does he change the dynamic weapons they have
- 38:34Speaker 3: in Jefferson and Addison and obviously Jawan Jennings there now?
- 38:40Speaker 3: So many questions in this north, Richard. Who do you
- 38:44Speaker 3: think ultimately takes the crown in the NFC North?
- 38:48Speaker 1: I got the Lions. I got your Detroit Lions.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Biased or unbiased, I feel like objectively they have the
- 38:54Speaker 2: best quarterback. And I know there's Packer fans that are
- 38:57Speaker 2: going to be, you know, whoa, whoa, whoa, go check
- 39:00Speaker 2: the stats, Packer fans.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Show me.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I can show you four Jared Goff seasons better than
- 39:05Speaker 2: Jordan Love's best season. And I think he doesn't get
- 39:08Speaker 2: enough credit. Because what he did in L.A. and, you know,
- 39:12Speaker 2: people up and down and is he a winner or
- 39:14Speaker 2: is he skittish or whatever? But the numbers are the numbers.
- 39:17Speaker 2: He puts them up year in and year out. And
- 39:19Speaker 2: he's one of the best quarterbacks in the National League.
- 39:21Speaker 2: And for some reason, people forget about that until Detroit
- 39:24Speaker 2: is just top five offensively.
- 39:27Speaker 1: And you're like, I'm in Ross St. Brown and St.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Laporta and all these guys, Jamison Williams. But you forget
- 39:34Speaker 2: the guy slinging a rock around the yard. And I
- 39:36Speaker 2: think Jared Goff is going to have another really elite season.
- 39:41Speaker 2: They continue to be a great offense. The concern, the
- 39:46Speaker 2: real concern is defensively. Like, when you lose Terryon Arnold
- 39:53Speaker 2: to the system, you lose Terryon Arnold to the system,
- 39:59Speaker 2: then you got to, you know, when is Brian Branch
- 40:04Speaker 2: going to be healthy?
- 40:05Speaker 1: You know, when are.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Your elite safeties going to be healthy? So, when is
- 40:10Speaker 2: Brian Branch going to be back? When is Kirby Joseph
- 40:13Speaker 2: going to be healthy? Like, those are two elite players,
- 40:16Speaker 2: two players that the defense doesn't really function as well without.
- 40:20Speaker 1: And you don't have them.
- 40:21Speaker 2: You know, two pro-ball, all-pro caliber players, and you're without them.
- 40:25Speaker 2: So that's the issue early on for the Lions. Can
- 40:29Speaker 2: guys like Avante Maddox and Chuck Clark step up and
- 40:33Speaker 2: just hold the ship down until those guys return? Because
- 40:37Speaker 2: if they can, this can be a really cool season
- 40:39Speaker 2: for Detroit. But that's a big question mark. And then
- 40:42Speaker 2: on the defensive line, can they get enough pressure? Aiden
- 40:45Speaker 2: Hutchinson showed that he is who people think he was
- 40:48Speaker 2: coming out of Michigan. Can he continue that? Can he
- 40:52Speaker 2: continue to be dominant? And can the guys around him
- 40:55Speaker 2: develop enough to really give him more room to operate?
- 41:00Speaker 2: I think that's going to be a big concern throughout
- 41:02Speaker 2: this season. Jack Campbell has been really solid. I think
- 41:05Speaker 2: DJ Reed has shown he's a really good corner in
- 41:08Speaker 2: the National Football League and really consistent, although I think
- 41:11Speaker 2: they ask him to play way too much man coverage.
- 41:13Speaker 2: They've got to mix things up and stop being so
- 41:15Speaker 2: predictable defensively to give themselves a chance to really defend
- 41:19Speaker 2: in this league. You don't have guys that can live
- 41:22Speaker 2: in man coverage 90% of the time, 80% of the time.
- 41:26Speaker 2: You got to get creative. Can you bring pressures? Can
- 41:29Speaker 2: you start to run quarters? Can you put more pressure
- 41:31Speaker 2: on the defensive coordinators to understand these protections and the
- 41:35Speaker 2: way you need to attack them and give this defense
- 41:37Speaker 2: a chance? That's what I'm expecting out of the Lions.
- 41:39Speaker 2: I think that's the weakness. And then, obviously, the Green
- 41:42Speaker 2: Bay Packers in this division are going to be formidable
- 41:45Speaker 2: because of Jordan Love.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Because of.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Because of Josh Jacobs, who is now starting on the
- 41:51Speaker 2: commissioner's exempt list, and that's a big deal. That's a
- 41:53Speaker 2: big deal, him starting on the commissioner's exempt list. I'm
- 41:56Speaker 2: sure they feel great about their depth there, but what
- 42:00Speaker 2: are they going to be defensively? Like, you want to
- 42:05Speaker 2: say Micah Parsons, Micah Parsons, Micah Parsons, but when does
- 42:08Speaker 2: Micah Parsons return? Because without Micah Parsons, they're an entirely
- 42:12Speaker 2: different team, and now you're going to be without Rashawn Gary,
- 42:15Speaker 2: who's in Dallas. What is this pass rush going to be?
- 42:19Speaker 2: How formidable are they going to be? And then in
- 42:20Speaker 2: the secondary, who are you going to be? You're without
- 42:25Speaker 2: Halfley this year. Halfley's now in Miami. How different is
- 42:28Speaker 2: this defense going to be? They were a really, really
- 42:30Speaker 2: formidable unit last year, but they still were a seventh seed.
- 42:33Speaker 2: They still barely made the playoffs. They still were that
- 42:36Speaker 2: seventh seed. That seventh seed didn't used to exist. And
- 42:38Speaker 2: they've had it for like the last couple of years.
- 42:41Speaker 2: they're going to have to take the next step this year,
- 42:43Speaker 2: and I know people are going to be like, oh,
- 42:45Speaker 2: he's down on the Packers, because at some point, like
- 42:48Speaker 2: the seventh seed in the playoffs, I need you to
- 42:50Speaker 2: do more, and I know you're going to say, oh, well.
- 42:53Speaker 1: What have the Lions done?
- 42:54Speaker 2: The Lions have, what, a couple years ago, they won, what, 13,
- 42:57Speaker 2: 14 games, and I think, you know, minus a few injuries,
- 43:01Speaker 2: I think they have another good season last year, but
- 43:04Speaker 2: I think they're going to have a really good year.
- 43:05Speaker 2: I think the Packers are going to be really solid,
- 43:07Speaker 2: but I think if the Packers aren't who they're supposed
- 43:09Speaker 2: to be, the floor becomes, it gets on that hot
- 43:11Speaker 2: seat because there were times last year where guys were
- 43:14Speaker 2: Packers fans were calling for his job. And I think
- 43:18Speaker 2: that's going to continue to be the case if they,
- 43:20Speaker 2: if they don't start off really fast and their schedule,
- 43:24Speaker 2: their schedule gives them a chance to start off really fast.
- 43:27Speaker 2: They're going against the NFC South this year. It's not,
- 43:31Speaker 2: you know, you know, there's a lot of lot in
- 43:35Speaker 2: flux in NFC South, um, and some beatable teams out there.
- 43:39Speaker 2: So that may give them a chance to better their
- 43:42Speaker 2: playoff standings, but we'll see.
- 43:46Speaker 1: We will see.
- 43:47Speaker 3: I mean, then you turn your focus to the Chicago Bears.
- 43:49Speaker 3: I mean, Caleb Williams came out this past year. Obviously,
- 43:52Speaker 3: Ben Johnson and his offensive guru comes into Chicago and
- 43:57Speaker 3: makes that team a total juggernaut offensively. They did have
- 44:01Speaker 3: a lot of turnovers, the right kind of turnovers on
- 44:04Speaker 3: the defensive side of the ball. The question is, can
- 44:07Speaker 3: they replicate that this year? Because they won a lot
- 44:10Speaker 3: of close games and ultimately won that division. But can
- 44:13Speaker 3: they replicate that this year? They went 0-2 against my
- 44:16Speaker 3: Detroit Lions last year. And they lost when they needed
- 44:20Speaker 3: to win down the stretch against a Lions team that
- 44:23Speaker 3: was playing with a shell personnel. The question becomes, can
- 44:28Speaker 3: the Chicago Bears beat the elite in this league? Do
- 44:30Speaker 3: you think they're part of that conversation? I, yes.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Do I think the bears are part of that conversation? Yes.
- 44:39Speaker 2: But just like Vegas does, I'm still, I'm still wary
- 44:43Speaker 2: of the Chicago bears. Can Caleb Williams be consistent? Can
- 44:46Speaker 2: that receiving core really be consistent? You know, they lose
- 44:50Speaker 2: DJ more and you can feel however you want about
- 44:53Speaker 2: DJ more. He had a productive season for him last year.
- 44:55Speaker 2: He made a lot of big plays. Now he's in Buffalo.
- 44:59Speaker 2: So what are you going to get out of Luther burden? And, and, and, uh,
- 45:03Speaker 2: and Roma Dunze, you know, are those guys going to
- 45:05Speaker 2: take the next step to be the guys that they
- 45:08Speaker 2: expected them to be when they drafted them? That's going
- 45:11Speaker 2: to be a big deal. And then Caleb Williams, it's
- 45:13Speaker 2: a big deal. They paid a lot for that offensive line.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Can they continue to be maulers like they were last year?
- 45:19Speaker 2: They had a great season. They are built the right way.
- 45:22Speaker 2: And then defensively, you got to be able to rush
- 45:25Speaker 2: the pass. You got to be able to cover. You
- 45:27Speaker 2: got to be able to do a lot in this league.
- 45:29Speaker 2: And I think They at times did it well, but
- 45:32Speaker 2: they got banged up in the secondary. You know, Jalen
- 45:34Speaker 2: Johnson was banged up for a lot of the year.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Kyler Gordon was banged up for a lot of the year.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Can they come into this season healthy and be dominant players?
- 45:43Speaker 2: Because if they can, then that changes the math substantially.
- 45:47Speaker 3: And now we've got to turn our focus to the
- 45:48Speaker 3: Minnesota Vikings. You know, again, we referenced it earlier. They
- 45:52Speaker 3: said no to Sam Darnold after one of the best
- 45:54Speaker 3: seasons they've had in a long time. and elect to
- 45:57Speaker 3: start J.J. McCarthy, their first-round pick from a week prior.
- 46:01Speaker 3: That experiment did not go as planned, and ultimately Kyler
- 46:05Speaker 3: Murray has won the starting job in Minnesota. I do
- 46:08Speaker 3: want to talk a little bit about J.J. McCarthy, but
- 46:10Speaker 3: let's start with the Minnesota Vikings as a team, now
- 46:13Speaker 3: led by Kyler Murray. What are your expectations for this team? Specifically,
- 46:17Speaker 3: what are your expectations for this offense? How different is
- 46:21Speaker 3: it going to look for Minnesota Viking fans with Kyler
- 46:24Speaker 3: Murray under center?
- 46:25Speaker 1: Well, I expect him to use his legs. He always has.
- 46:30Speaker 1: He always will.
- 46:31Speaker 2: That's one of his superpowers in the National Football League.
- 46:33Speaker 2: He's incredibly fast and dynamic, slippery. When he's healthy and
- 46:38Speaker 2: he's on his game, he's got a live arm. He
- 46:41Speaker 2: can make some really incredible passes. They've got a really
- 46:44Speaker 2: dynamic receiving core. And Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson and
- 46:50Speaker 2: a friend of the program, Jawan Jennings, But I just
- 46:57Speaker 2: don't know if they, you know, I'm not going to
- 47:00Speaker 2: go through down the I told you.
- 47:02Speaker 1: So, Minnesota. People are going to get fired if it
- 47:04Speaker 1: didn't work out.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I'm not going to go down the whole I told
- 47:08Speaker 2: you guys again and again about three weeks in, four
- 47:12Speaker 2: weeks in, it wasn't going to.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Work out like that. I'm not going to do that.
- 47:14Speaker 2: I'm not going to be that guy that says, hey,
- 47:18Speaker 2: if this doesn't work out, your GM is probably going
- 47:20Speaker 2: to get fired because this guy isn't the guy.
- 47:22Speaker 1: He didn't show it at Michigan. How is he going
- 47:24Speaker 1: to be it in the league? Whatever. I got you.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Now Sam Darnold went somewhere else. You guys told me
- 47:30Speaker 2: he was seeing ghosts and you didn't want him anyway.
- 47:32Speaker 2: He got a ring on his finger now and nobody
- 47:34Speaker 2: proposed to him. So I got you.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 47:37Speaker 2: I don't know what happened there, but he won 14
- 47:40Speaker 2: games again. The Minnesota Vikings did not win 14 games.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Minnesota Vikings made the decision to go with the young kid.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Young kid was not ready for his moment. Now, did
- 47:48Speaker 2: he play well at times? There's quarters where you could
- 47:50Speaker 2: turn on the tape and see really, really sound football play.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Real great quarterback play. delivering really accurate passes and things
- 47:58Speaker 2: like that. But just over the course of a long season,
- 48:01Speaker 2: 17 games, can he do it consistently? And I knew
- 48:04Speaker 2: that would be an issue for him because he had
- 48:07Speaker 2: not done it. He had not done it. He had
- 48:09Speaker 2: one year at Michigan where, you know, they played well
- 48:12Speaker 2: and they went on a run, but it was a
- 48:13Speaker 2: great running game.
- 48:14Speaker 1: It was a great defense.
- 48:15Speaker 2: And if you give them a great defense and you'll
- 48:17Speaker 2: get that from Brian Flores, they're going to be dynamic.
- 48:20Speaker 2: They're going to put pressure on other teams. They're going
- 48:22Speaker 2: to cause chaos, cause turnovers, be really aggressive. give the
- 48:25Speaker 2: offense the ball, extra possessions, things like that. But a
- 48:29Speaker 2: young quarterback can't be skittish back there and he can't,
- 48:32Speaker 2: you know, you're with one of the best offensive minds
- 48:35Speaker 2: in the National Football League and Kevin O'Connell.
- 48:38Speaker 1: And if you can't do it here, you can't do
- 48:40Speaker 1: it anywhere.
- 48:40Speaker 2: And I knew once they brought Kyler Murray in, even
- 48:42Speaker 2: though he wasn't financially tied, there was no financial incentive
- 48:47Speaker 2: to play him or start him. He's a veteran who's
- 48:49Speaker 2: played at times, at a high level in this league. Now,
- 48:52Speaker 2: there are times that he's made you scratch your head
- 48:54Speaker 2: and say, wow, this guy doesn't take the game series.
- 48:57Speaker 2: But there are times that he's played at a high
- 48:59Speaker 2: enough level to know, hey, he belongs in this National
- 49:01Speaker 2: Football League. And you know that Kevin O'Connell saw that
- 49:03Speaker 2: during training camp, and you knew he would. And I'm
- 49:06Speaker 2: still waiting for enough consistency from J.J.
- 49:10Speaker 1: McCarthy for me to say, hey, there it is. There's
- 49:12Speaker 1: the guy. He belongs.
- 49:13Speaker 2: That's a first-round pick. That's a top-ten pick. That's why
- 49:15Speaker 2: they drafted him here. And I think that's the reason
- 49:18Speaker 2: why you aren't seeing him start. Like, there's not any
- 49:22Speaker 2: crazy bias for Kevin O'Connor to want to play Kyler Murray.
- 49:26Speaker 2: He's just a better quarterback. And I think if you
- 49:28Speaker 2: go back in time, in hindsight being 2020, they would
- 49:30Speaker 2: have kept Sam Darnold. They would have paid him $ 50
- 49:32Speaker 2: million and just lived with it because he played in
- 49:36Speaker 2: this system as well as anybody else does it. And
- 49:39Speaker 2: so Seattle kept him in the same system with a
- 49:42Speaker 2: great defense and a phenomenal defensive coordinator, defensive coach, really
- 49:47Speaker 2: an all pro receiver like he.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Had in Minnesota. And look what happened.
- 49:51Speaker 2: And I think that potential there is going to haunt
- 49:53Speaker 2: the Minnesota Vikings fan base for a very long time.
- 49:56Speaker 2: And I told you this is going to be a
- 49:58Speaker 2: decade long pain that they go through because you made
- 50:01Speaker 2: the wrong call.
- 50:03Speaker 3: What do you think is a realistic ceiling for this
- 50:06Speaker 3: Minnesota Vikings team?
- 50:09Speaker 2: I think if they win nine games, that'd be considered
- 50:12Speaker 2: a win. Is that enough to get them to seventh seed?
- 50:14Speaker 2: I'm not sure. This is a really tough division as
- 50:16Speaker 2: well for all the reasons that we stated earlier. The
- 50:20Speaker 2: Green Bay Packers are still a really good team. The
- 50:23Speaker 2: Detroit Lions are still a really good team. And then
- 50:26Speaker 2: the Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams are going to be formidable.
- 50:29Speaker 2: They just won the division last year. They were a
- 50:32Speaker 2: tough out last year. They're going to be a tough
- 50:34Speaker 2: out again.
- 50:36Speaker 3: And before we leave this NFC North, I want to
- 50:37Speaker 3: dive just quickly into this Lions team. I love some
- 50:40Speaker 3: of the changes they've made defensively. A lot of the
- 50:43Speaker 3: question marks last year were opposite of Aiden Hutchinson. And Richard,
- 50:46Speaker 3: you already touched on that. They went out and drafted
- 50:49Speaker 3: Derek Moore, the rookie out of Michigan this year, who
- 50:52Speaker 3: has been injured during training camp, but is one showing
- 50:54Speaker 3: during a preseason game. A media impact, strip sack. And
- 51:00Speaker 3: then they got another kid, Richard. I don't know how
- 51:02Speaker 3: big of a Miley Cyrus fan you are. I know
- 51:04Speaker 3: you love your music. But the song, I came in
- 51:07Speaker 3: like a wrecking ball, comes to mind when I speak
- 51:11Speaker 3: of Skyler Gil Howard, the rookie out of Texas Tech
- 51:15Speaker 3: by way of Northern Illinois, an absolute wrecking ball up
- 51:18Speaker 3: the middle, an undersized defensive tackle that is known for
- 51:21Speaker 3: his pass rushing skill. Look out for those guys. You
- 51:24Speaker 3: get a healthy Aleem McNeil back. You get the second
- 51:27Speaker 3: year first round pick, Tyleek Williams next to him. I
- 51:30Speaker 3: think the Lions are going to have a lot more
- 51:33Speaker 3: answers than questions. coming into this season. The one glaring
- 51:36Speaker 3: hole of this team right now is the free agent center,
- 51:39Speaker 3: Cade Mays, that they signed. Broke his wrist during the
- 51:42Speaker 3: middle of training camp. He's going to probably be out
- 51:44Speaker 3: through that bye week, which comes after week four. We'll
- 51:47Speaker 3: see if they can weather that storm without him. There's
- 51:50Speaker 3: going to be a lot of question marks and moving
- 51:51Speaker 3: pieces up that middle. But let's take a look at
- 51:54Speaker 3: these first four games.
- 51:56Speaker 1: See what Ragnow's doing. See what Rag.
- 51:59Speaker 3: I think they already knocked on his door a few times, Rich.
- 52:03Speaker 3: Let's talk about these first few games of the season
- 52:05Speaker 3: and give your predictions here. The Lions open at home
- 52:08Speaker 3: against the Saints, at the Bills, at home against the Jets,
- 52:12Speaker 3: and then at the Panthers. At the Bills, by the way,
- 52:15Speaker 3: the first game in Highmark Stadium, regular season game on
- 52:19Speaker 3: Thursday Night Football via Amazon Prime. Richard, you'll be there. Richard,
- 52:24Speaker 3: the Lions, can they go 4-0 to start the season?
- 52:29Speaker 2: I'm tempted to give them four and oh, but going
- 52:31Speaker 2: to Buffalo new high Mark stadium, brand new opening, like
- 52:35Speaker 2: real energy from those fans. They're so passionate out there
- 52:39Speaker 2: in Buffalo. Sometimes that energy just wins the day. And,
- 52:43Speaker 2: and I have a hard time believing Buffalo is going
- 52:46Speaker 2: to lose the first game in their brand new stadium,
- 52:48Speaker 2: billion dollar stadium, but crazier things have happened.
- 52:51Speaker 1: It's not cold.
- 52:52Speaker 2: It's not any of the elements that you expect Buffalo
- 52:55Speaker 2: to benefit from. Um, But with all those things, they're
- 52:58Speaker 2: still a very formidable outfit. Josh Allen is still one
- 53:03Speaker 2: of the best, if not the best quarterback in the
- 53:05Speaker 2: National Football League. Everybody will argue, whoever they will, Stafford
- 53:09Speaker 2: or Mahomes or whoever your favorite guy is, Burrow, Lamar,
- 53:14Speaker 2: but he's in that conversation. So I think that's the
- 53:20Speaker 2: one they're going to have a hard time winning. I
- 53:21Speaker 2: got them 3-1. Fair.
- 53:24Speaker 3: The Chicago Bears at the Panthers, at home against the Vikings,
- 53:28Speaker 3: at home against the Eagles, at home against the Jets.
- 53:30Speaker 1: 3-1. 3-1. Unless they're Panthers. Go ahead. I respect it.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I mean, the Panthers could be good. Again. Yeah.
- 53:51Speaker 3: Let's take it to the Packers at the Vikings, at
- 53:54Speaker 3: the Jets, at home against the Falcons, and at the
- 53:57Speaker 3: Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 54:06Speaker 2: It's hard for me not to go 3-1 in a
- 54:07Speaker 2: lot of these games. I mean, a lot of these teams.
- 54:10Speaker 2: I don't think the Vikings are beating the Packers. The Jets, J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets.
- 54:17Speaker 2: If Geno finds a way to bring a miracle to
- 54:20Speaker 2: New York, I think that's going to be a movie
- 54:23Speaker 2: that is made next season about the biggest career turnaround
- 54:28Speaker 2: in probably the history of the game.
- 54:32Speaker 1: To get drafted to New York, kind of struggle there,
- 54:35Speaker 1: come back to New York and take them to any
- 54:37Speaker 1: kind of playoff or any.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Kind of relevance would be really cool. I just don't
- 54:42Speaker 2: see it happening, but I'm just saying if that happened.
- 54:44Speaker 2: So I say all that to say 3-1.
- 54:47Speaker 3: And then the Vikings at home against the pack at
- 54:51Speaker 3: the bears at the bucks at home against the dolphins.
- 55:01Speaker 1: One in three. Yeah. You, you had it written one
- 55:03Speaker 1: in three. I agree with you. One in three. There
- 55:06Speaker 1: it is. All right.
- 55:07Speaker 3: We got the lions one in the North. Now we
- 55:09Speaker 3: move to the NFC South. This is always a massive
- 55:13Speaker 3: coin flip of a division. Um, Last year, we saw
- 55:17Speaker 3: the Carolina Panthers seemingly come out of nowhere. Everyone left
- 55:20Speaker 3: Bryce Young and said, hey, you know, he's the next
- 55:22Speaker 3: one to not work out in Carolina. He had other words, right?
- 55:26Speaker 3: I mean, this guy helped them, albeit to a losing season,
- 55:29Speaker 3: but they won the division and gave the LA Rams
- 55:31Speaker 3: a scare. And then you look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 55:34Speaker 3: Mike Evans is gone. Their all-time leading receiver gone. And
- 55:38Speaker 3: then obviously the Atlanta Falcons. Always question marks about them.
- 55:41Speaker 3: They bring in Tua. Can he make them a more
- 55:43Speaker 3: competitive team? We shall see, Richard. And then the Saints.
- 55:49Speaker 3: Vegas has the Saints team as the number two favorite
- 55:51Speaker 3: to win this division. I don't think a whole lot
- 55:53Speaker 3: of people realize that. Chris Alave came back and had
- 55:57Speaker 3: a great year last year. Tyler Shroud, their second-round pick
- 56:01Speaker 3: out of Louisville, is proven to be a guy worth
- 56:03Speaker 3: keeping his eyes on. What are your thoughts about this division,
- 56:07Speaker 3: and who do you think ultimately takes home the crown?
- 56:10Speaker 2: Well, the whole NFC South is always a question mark
- 56:13Speaker 2: and basically a random luck of the draw at the
- 56:15Speaker 2: end of the year. It's always nobody's division to win
- 56:19Speaker 2: until somebody loses it. Last year, I think there was
- 56:22Speaker 2: a three-way tie, week 16 or 17. I think one team,
- 56:27Speaker 2: I think it might have been Tampa Bay, had to
- 56:29Speaker 2: beat Carolina or Atlanta had to beat. Somebody had to
- 56:32Speaker 2: beat somebody, and they lost. Carolina won by that default
- 56:38Speaker 2: of them losing, and it was just like– Of course,
- 56:40Speaker 2: NFC South. But this year, I feel really good about
- 56:43Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I think offensively, they could still
- 56:46Speaker 2: be really dynamic. They lose their all-time leading receiver in
- 56:48Speaker 2: Mike Evans, but they still have enough weapons offensively, and
- 56:52Speaker 2: I think Baker Mayfield is going to be motivated with
- 56:55Speaker 2: the contract situation and those conversations. Bucky Irvin, Chris Godwin,
- 57:01Speaker 2: they still got Emeka Abuke and Jalen McMillan if he's healthy,
- 57:05Speaker 2: and Tez Johnson, and a lot of guys who can
- 57:07Speaker 2: really go once they get going defensively, is where I
- 57:11Speaker 2: think that is going to be the strength of their team.
- 57:13Speaker 2: They drafted really well. I think Reuben Bain, you know,
- 57:17Speaker 2: all the question marks about his arm length have been
- 57:20Speaker 2: answered throughout training camp, throughout some of these joint practices,
- 57:23Speaker 2: some of the clips you see of him going against tackles.
- 57:27Speaker 2: It looks just silly. And some of these tackles are
- 57:30Speaker 2: really talented, you know, real-life NFL guys who played for
- 57:34Speaker 2: a few years. And I think So you know they're
- 57:37Speaker 2: going to be really aggressive up front. You know, still
- 57:40Speaker 2: got Vita Vea for all the conversations of him asking
- 57:43Speaker 2: for a trade and more money and all that. They
- 57:45Speaker 2: got A'shaun Robinson. This is going to be a formidable
- 57:48Speaker 2: front to go against. They still got Antoine Winfield, who's
- 57:51Speaker 2: been one of the best safeties in the National Football League.
- 57:54Speaker 2: The young guys at the corner spot, Zion McCollum and
- 57:58Speaker 2: Jacob Parrish, they're going to have to stand up. You know,
- 58:02Speaker 2: Todd Bowles runs a very complex scheme, a very, very–
- 58:06Speaker 2: variable scheme you know there's a lot of variety and
- 58:10Speaker 2: a lot of substance and a lot of uh a
- 58:14Speaker 2: lot of intricacies to his scheme and and you know
- 58:17Speaker 2: he does a great job confusing offenses but sometimes it
- 58:20Speaker 2: can feel a bit unsound and uh this will be
- 58:23Speaker 2: the first year without Levante David you know in in
- 58:26Speaker 2: what 15 years 16 years you know that's a that's
- 58:29Speaker 2: a big deal um you know so we'll see how
- 58:32Speaker 2: they they handle that loss and and who can step
- 58:34Speaker 2: up in his absence he's been a a staple and
- 58:37Speaker 2: a mainstay in Tampa Bay for a really long time. How,
- 58:40Speaker 2: how can they adjust to that loss? Because it's not
- 58:42Speaker 2: just presence, it's leadership, it's calmness. It's a guy, it's
- 58:45Speaker 2: a guy who won a Superbowl, a guy who, who
- 58:48Speaker 2: you almost always expect to be there. You know, he's
- 58:50Speaker 2: like the first and a 15th Mitchell. You, you, you got,
- 58:53Speaker 2: you can lean on it. You, you can depend on him.
- 58:55Speaker 2: Dependability is the best ability in the league. And without him,
- 58:59Speaker 2: there's going to be some adjustments, but I feel really
- 59:01Speaker 2: good about Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And obviously so does Las Vegas.
- 59:06Speaker 2: You got to give the Saints some credit. Tyler Shaw
- 59:09Speaker 2: is a guy that I don't think anybody really spoke
- 59:12Speaker 2: that highly of coming out. And when they drafted him,
- 59:15Speaker 2: you know, it was kind of just a shrug of
- 59:16Speaker 2: the shoulders. People were like, why didn't they get Shador Sanders?
- 59:20Speaker 2: But as it's, you know, as the year progressed, you
- 59:22Speaker 2: could see the flashes. He started to play. He'd had
- 59:24Speaker 2: some really good moments. He's had some really cool moments.
- 59:26Speaker 2: And And Kellen Moore put him in some really good
- 59:29Speaker 2: spots to be productive. And I think there's some confidence
- 59:33Speaker 2: out there in New Orleans, that very quiet confidence in
- 59:35Speaker 2: the Big Easy that nobody's talking about. And can they
- 59:39Speaker 2: make a little noise? Can they upset a few guys
- 59:41Speaker 2: and just make it fun? I don't know if they
- 59:45Speaker 2: go out there and win 10 games. I'm not going
- 59:46Speaker 2: to put myself in that situation to say anything like that.
- 59:50Speaker 2: But I think they can make it fun. I think
- 59:51Speaker 2: it can make it really competitive, make it really tough.
- 59:54Speaker 2: to come out there to New Orleans and play. It's
- 59:56Speaker 2: always a tough stadium to play in, but I think,
- 59:58Speaker 2: you know, the NFC South is always a toss-up at
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: the end. It's going to be, you know, back and
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: forth throughout the whole season. If anybody is going to
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: run away with it, I think Tampa would.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: Richard, obviously the Carolina Panthers shocked a lot of people
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: by winning this division. I know you said it was
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: a lot of luck down the stretch, teams not wanting
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: to win, but reality is Bryce Love helped this offense
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: find some stability, and.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Fuck.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Bryce Young.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Not Bryce Love. Sorry.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: Richard, let's talk a little bit about the Carolina Panthers.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: I know this team, you know, 8-9, won the division
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: by luck, I guess, if you want to say. No
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: one seemed to want to win it down the stretch.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: But Bryce Young really stabilized this offense and gave this
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: team a tough complexion. They were a tough team to
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: play against. They almost knocked off the L.A. Rams in
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: the playoffs.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I mean.
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: Are you writing them off? Do you think they'll take
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: a step back this year? Do you have any hope
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: with the Carolina Panthers?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: It's Jekyll and Hyde with the Carolina Panthers because within
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: their division, sometimes they look like anybody in the division
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: can beat them.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: And then you see them play the LA Rams.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: I think they played like twice in five weeks or
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: something like that. In both games, they looked like they
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: went toe to toe with the team that everybody thinks
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: has a chance to win a Super Bowl last year
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: and this year. And If they can play to that
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: level consistently, then we're talking about a whole different team.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: We're talking about a team that can compete with anybody.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: But it almost seems like they play up and down
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: to the level of their opponent, and that's not the
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: recipe for success. And so I want to see more
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: consistency from them. They have great players at great spot.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Ted McMillan at receiver looks like he's the guy that
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: they expected him to be when they drafted him. Mike Jack.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: at corner is a guy that played really, really well.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: You got J.C. Horn, who's been one of the best
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: corners in the National Football League. He had a little
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: bit of an up-and-down season, but he played really well
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: in some of the big games. I remember watching them
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: against the San Francisco 49ers, where they just were having
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: their way with Brock Purdy that day. I think he
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: might have thrown three or four first-half interceptions, and they
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: weren't just gimmies. Those guys were hunting them down. Like
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: I said, they played to the level of their opponent,
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: and if they can play at that level consistently, defensively,
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: because they have played well. Derek Brown, we'll see when
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: they get him back and what he's going to be
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: able to do. Devin Lloyd, you know, is another guy
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: who can be dynamic for him. I think they feel
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: really good defensively about how they match up with teams,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: how they matched up with the Rams. Offensively, they feel
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: like they have some playmakers. Chubba Hubbard had a really
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: good gear last year. He felt like if he got
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: more carries, he'd be more dynamic. I think he's going
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: to get more carries. He's going to get a heavier
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: load this year. And can Bryce Young continue to take
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: that next step? Can he continue to be a dynamic quarterback,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: a calming presence back there?
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: You know, consistency is what wins in this league. And
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: none of these teams have shown enough consistency for us
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: to really truly just be all in on them.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: Let's walk through the first four games, Reach, and you
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: give your projections here. The Carolina Panthers open at home
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: against the Bears, then travel to the Atlanta Falcons. followed
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: by the Cleveland Browns, and then at home again against
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: my Detroit Lions.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Your thoughts? Two and two.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They start off in Cincy against
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: the Bengals, then host the Cleveland Browns, the Minnesota Vikings,
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: and the Green Bay Packers.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: It's hot in Tampa in September, Mitchell. Very hot in Tampa.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: That plays a factor. Two and two.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: I don't know how big of a factor it plays,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: but okay, here we go. All right, Richard, then we
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: go to the Atlanta Falcons. This is a team with
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: a lot of question marks, right? Tua Tungabailoa comes in.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: Does he win the starting role? Does Michael Penix Jr.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: maintain it? I don't know. This team certainly needs a
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: quarterback to grab hold of that position and lead this team.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: They start in Pittsburgh against the Steelers, then host the Panthers,
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: travel to Green Bay. and ultimately travel to New Orleans,
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: what do you think the Falcons start?
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: That's tough.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: The 2-2. Again, that quarterback situation is really a microcosm
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: of the entire division.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Nobody won. Nobody's winning that job. Nobody ran away with it.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Who lost it?
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Who lost that job is the question because there are
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: some bad moments for Tua, And I think they thought
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: he would come in and kind of take it. I
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: thought he would come in and just be a veteran.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: You know, you got Drake May. I mean, Drake London.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: You got Kyle Pitts. You got some big targets. Like,
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: just put the ball up around their area. Let them
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: go get it. Don't make stuff up. Like, Kevin Stefanski,
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: keep it simple for them. You know, old school West Coast.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: Run the ball. Play action. Like, don't do anything crazy.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: And it just seems like he struggled in this system.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: And he has not got his groove back. Like, he's
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: like Stella Mitchell. I don't know if you've ever seen that.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: But Stella, it took her a while to get her
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: groove back, Mitchell, and it's taken Tua Tungvalu a second
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: to get his groove back. And if he can't, whoever
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: they do start is going to have a short leash.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: That's my expectation. Whoever starts is going to have a
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: very short leash. Let them have one bad game. I
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: expect another one to start, the other guy to start
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: the next game or the following game if it's two
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: in a row. So I don't think it's a situation where,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: you know, they name the day one starter and they're
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: just like, hey, we feel confident in this guy. They're
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: going to name somebody because you have to. but I
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: don't think that closes the door on another guy.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Two and two for the Atlanta Falcons. The New Orleans
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Saints at Detroit. I'll be at the game, by the way, Richard.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: At Baltimore, at home against the Raiders, and at home
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: against the Falcons. Can the New Orleans Saints start two
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: and two or better?
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Question mark. Two and two. That's two. Two and two.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: It just seems so fitting for this division, honestly.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: It's what it is. It's what it is because that's
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: where it's going to be at the end. Everybody's going
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: to have a chance to win or lose the division
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: in week 15.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: All right, to conclude the NFC, Richard, you've got the
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: Seattle Seahawks winning the West, the Cowboys winning the East,
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: the Lions winning the North, and the Buccaneers winning the South.
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: Who do you think takes care of the wild card seeds?
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: You've got three teams in mind.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: Rams, Niners.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Could that division sweep?
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Bears.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: Arizona Cardinals?
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Bears. Fair enough.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: And the Bears. Well, that concludes the NFC side of things. Richard,
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: no surprise you love the Seattle Seahawks. I'm happy to
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: hear you like my Detroit Lions. So excited to see
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: this conference shake out. Let's move over to the AFC.
