- 0:00I want to delve into Melchizedek and his story a little bit and
- 0:03because most recently, I have begun to appreciate just how
- 0:08important he is to our history and also, what we might be able
- 0:12to learn from his ministry, when he was establishing his legacy
- 0:18through Abraham. But prior to that, there were
- 0:20ninety seven years where he was on Earth, and he did some pretty
- 0:24amazing things, which a lot of it is actually covered in
- 0:29Genesis, which is amazing. And so we could talk about that
- 0:33and then also a third generation but they call a legacy, Urantia
- 0:38book reader passed on this week. So I want to talk a little bit
- 0:42about John Hale, and that's what we've got in store this time up
- 0:46on the ranch Radio podcast. Before we begin our podcast, I
- 0:50want to say a few things about something that's as everyone
- 0:56knows. One of the most tragic things
- 0:58that could ever happen is the loss of a loved of a loved one.
- 1:02And since I've had a lot of Engagement with Will Sherwood
- 1:06over the year. I wanted to say that, I was sad
- 1:09to hear that his wife, his beloved wife Margo Sherwood
- 1:13passed away in late October of this year, after a long illness.
- 1:19And she, of course, has her husband of great support her
- 1:24animals and her loving hospice, care workers that were there to
- 1:28help ease the transition and Margo was born in 1950.
- 1:32For in Hungary. And she escaped.
- 1:35The Communist nation in her early 20s.
- 1:39And while attending a whole life Expo in Pasadena, California,
- 1:43Margo found herself drawn to the booth hosted by the Urantia book
- 1:48Los Angeles society. And from that point on still in
- 1:52her 20s Margo started actively reading the book and attending
- 1:56study groups in. Southern California, will very
- 2:00fine man and I'm sure that this loss has been very hard for will
- 2:05and no one of course, ever. Ever wants to lose.
- 2:08Loved one. Even though we know it means
- 2:11they're on their spiritual journey and the good news of
- 2:14course, is that she'll be waiting for you.
- 2:15Well, and so I just wanted to make a note of mention.
- 2:19They're also I want to mention about John Hales who recently
- 2:25passed, John in the very, very early days.
- 2:30He was a child of a couple of forum members His father and
- 2:36mother, and he was 16 and he was not allowed to read the year
- 2:40Rancho book because it was still in pre-publication before dr.
- 2:44Sadler William Sadler invited him to join the Urantia project,
- 2:48John had to take a test and then he told the recounted that The
- 2:54dr. Sadler had said, before you take
- 2:57the test before you pass the interview, you need to read part
- 3:013 of the book and John did it. And he became a member of the
- 3:05project as dr. Sadler called it back then and
- 3:10John Hales ended up spending 70 years, serving various groups
- 3:16within the ranch of fellowship and the movement.
- 3:18He was a president vice president, secretary Secretary
- 3:22General. And The first field
- 3:24representative during those early days when the book was
- 3:27published and a longtime reader Larry Bowman, once mentioned
- 3:32that he John Hale serve longer on the general counsel than
- 3:36anyone else. 1974 when he was 37 year old old, John became the
- 3:42resident director and in doing so became the first paid
- 3:45employee of the year, Asha Brotherhood, back in 1974 and
- 3:51until then he had been entirely Lee a volunteer.
- 3:56John remained with the organization, the next 32 years,
- 3:59and retired from Paid employment and the Urantia book Fellowship
- 4:03in 2006. So, from that time, 74 to 2006
- 4:09in the Rancho movement, overall, John was very influential And of
- 4:14course that was a very trying and testing time back then, as
- 4:18well. So, and by the way, he was a
- 4:21recipient of the van award and Van only two other.
- 4:26Urantia book community members since the beginning.
- 4:31I received that award dr. Sadler, and Christy Chris
- 4:34Christensen. And the inscription on the van
- 4:38award which was awarded a John Hale reads, these spiritual
- 4:43insight, And moral steadfastness which enabled van to maintain
- 4:47such an unshakable attitude of loyalty to the universe
- 4:51government, was the product of clear thinking, wise reasoning
- 4:55logical, judgment, sincere motivation, unselfish purpose
- 5:00intelligent loyalty experiential, memory discipline
- 5:03character and the unquestioning dedication of his personality,
- 5:08to the doing of the will of the father and Paradise from paper
- 5:1267. Section 3, John Hale shit,
- 5:17shared memories of his parents involvement in the Forum and the
- 5:20Urantia project. He says, the only thing he
- 5:23recalled from the interview with dr.
- 5:25Sadler was that he was an important guy like my
- 5:28grandfather. He had big thick spectacles and
- 5:32he suggested. I start reading part 3, the
- 5:34history of Urantia. I seldom mention the book per se
- 5:38John says, but of join various study groups at the church it's
- 5:42reassuring. That people may not Not be ready
- 5:44to pick up this volume. If of over 2,000 pages, but
- 5:49they're open to dialogue. And I encourage you to seek out
- 5:53some form of service John writes.
- 5:56It brings to mind the quote from the book.
- 5:58The self is not important, but the work is, it's been my
- 6:02watchword over the years through thick and thin, that's what John
- 6:06says. So John Hale, your aunt, your
- 6:09book student, and a big part of the early days, by the way,
- 6:14they're going to be holding a memorial service, which will be
- 6:18held at the Kenilworth Union Church and Ken.
- 6:21Well, Worth Illinois, there is a website.
- 6:24I'll give you. It takes place by the way,
- 6:26December 29th 2022. And all you have to do is is go
- 6:31to KU c.org, that's KU c.org, and you can attend and watch and
- 6:41celebrate the life of John Hale. Okay, we're back.
- 7:04And I want to delve into this segment about Melchizedek who
- 7:08I've taken a fond and ever increasing interest in it.
- 7:12I must say this trip, you know how it is.
- 7:15You just walking along and an idea comes into your head.
- 7:20That something you read about and lately on my mind as you've
- 7:24heard in previous podcast in trying to discuss the best way
- 7:28to introduce the ranch of book. go and help it grow and it make
- 7:32sure that people who are searching for truth and
- 7:35searching for real meaning and an understanding of life that we
- 7:39can somehow inject your ancient teachings or truths into
- 7:44discourse by see a great movie, or if I see or read a great book
- 7:49or a here, about a great TV show, Or I see a very exciting
- 7:54moment on a recent, football game, doesn't matter.
- 7:57I always want to share with people.
- 7:59So if I read something that's very fascinating, I want to
- 8:02share with people and I thought, well, you know, it would be good
- 8:06to go back and learn about this, this much event Melchizedek
- 8:11because he's so Central to so much of not only the Urantia
- 8:15book I'll go over some of the influences that you'll find of
- 8:20him in other world religions. You know, Melchizedek.
- 8:26Wanted. Well, I mean the reason for him
- 8:28coming in 1900 BC is because it was observed by the most highs.
- 8:35And The Observers of our world that the light of life was
- 8:39Vanishing, the truth of one God was disappearing.
- 8:43And man was wandering in a sea of all kinds of different Cults
- 8:47and pantheism. And if you understand that the
- 8:53the evolution the progressive, evolution of man and his
- 8:56spiritual, and intellectual growth is predicated on the
- 9:01truth of one God and that and then that truth in as it is is
- 9:07exposed later with. Jesus's teachings is the further
- 9:10truth of the Brotherhood of Man. You cannot have one with the
- 9:14other. You cannot have a brother of
- 9:16man, unless there is a father Who brings all of us together.
- 9:22And so that's part of the responsibility of these
- 9:24melchizedek's is to not only teach truth, but to keep Truth
- 9:27live, and we'll have lots of encounters with them as we
- 9:31progress in our lives. Are there there, there, the
- 9:35teachers of the universe. They're also our Elder Brothers
- 9:38in the spiritual sense. They represent Michael and
- 9:42Christ and they represent the Divine spirit and an in
- 9:46actually, they are they the firstborn?
- 9:48If you use the term born in a spiritual sense, And we've
- 9:53talked a little bit about that in previous episodes and there's
- 9:56so much good reading about them. And so, from 93, I want to read
- 10:00a little bit about the way that he taught is.
- 10:04His missionaries, the the students who learned under him
- 10:09for that 94 years that Melchizedek taught and or, and
- 10:15in Salem. So, Mo cosmetic, this is from
- 10:18paper, 93, and then we'll just start reading from paragraph 3.
- 10:22I'm not going to read every paragraph in its entirety.
- 10:24I just want to get to the core of what we're talking about here
- 10:27is, which is why you came what he taught, and how his influence
- 10:32has survived because of it. So I'm out.
- 10:34Cosmetic taught the concept of one.
- 10:36God, a universal deity. But he allowed the people to
- 10:39associate this, teaching, with the constellation fathers of nor
- 10:43Lycia deck, whom he termed, El elyon, the most high to a
- 10:49majority of Salem students, edentia was Heaven and the most
- 10:53high was God, So even back then, they were taught about it ends
- 10:59up being the name of heaven. And that the most high was God
- 11:05The symbol of the three concentric circles.
- 11:07Which by the way, are the same concentric circles, which is the
- 11:10Rancho book logo which Melchizedek War he adopted as
- 11:15the Insignia of his bestowal. Majority of the people
- 11:19interpreted as standing for the Three Kingdoms of men Angels
- 11:23than God and they were allowed to continue in that belief.
- 11:26Very few of his followers. Ever knew that these three
- 11:29circles were emblematic of the infinity, interna, tea and
- 11:33universality. Of the paradise Trinity from
- 11:39paper 93 Section 3 paragraph for Melchizedek taught Advanced
- 11:43truth, embracing the conduct and organization of the local
- 11:47Universe while to His Brilliant disciple, nor damn the key
- 11:50night. And his band of earnest
- 11:53students, he taught the truths of the super-universe and even
- 11:58of Havana. So these people back, then we're
- 12:00even prepared a few of them. Anyway, of the greater universe.
- 12:07The members of the families of catch row, which whom
- 12:10Melchizedek have lived for more than 30 years.
- 12:14New many of these higher truth and long perpetuated them in
- 12:17their family, even to the days of their illustrious descendant.
- 12:21Moses. There's about 700 years or so,
- 12:26separating, the times of Melchizedek to, when Moses was
- 12:30born, catch row lived or more. Proper to say that Melchizedek
- 12:35live with the Castro, family, 30 years, boy, imagine living with
- 12:41a Melchizedek for 30 years. So, the compelling traditional
- 12:48days of Melchizedek were handed down.
- 12:50Finally on his father's side and someone on the source of his
- 12:54mother's side as well. And it was the key Knights who
- 12:58we learn later and their belief systems that were taught to
- 13:01Moses. And the key nights descendants
- 13:04of Kate row, who lived with Melchizedek for 900 years
- 13:08previous. Wow, it's amazing are 700 years
- 13:11previous. Melchizedek taught his
- 13:14followers. All they had capacity to receive
- 13:16and assimilate even many modern religions.
- 13:20And their ideas about heaven and earth of, man and angels are not
- 13:23far removed from these teachings of Melchizedek but this great
- 13:27teacher subordinate. Everything to the doctrine of
- 13:30one, God a university, a Heavenly Creator.
- 13:34A Divine father emphasis was placed on this teaching for the
- 13:39purpose of appealing to man's of adoration. and a preparing, the
- 13:44way, for the subsequent appearance of Michael, as the
- 13:47son of the same Universal, father, Melchizedek taught that
- 13:54at some future time. Another Son of God would come in
- 13:56the flesh as he had come. but that he would be born of a woman
- 14:02and that is why numerous later teachers, held that Jesus was a
- 14:06priest or Minister quote Forever After the order of Melchizedek
- 14:11in quote, and that, by the way, is a direct quotation from
- 14:14Psalms, 110 paragraph section 4, From paper 93 section for the 7
- 14:23Commandments, promulgated by Melchizedek wear.
- 14:26Patterned along the lines of the ancient Dalmatian supreme law
- 14:31and very much resemble, the seven commands taught in the
- 14:33first and the second Gardens of Eden.
- 14:37Adam and Eve of course we know with teach the seven
- 14:40Commandments and they would be survived survived actually
- 14:44re-energized by melchizedek's teachings.
- 14:48And these were the seven Commandments.
- 14:49These were the Commandments of the Salem religion.
- 14:53These were the rules that these Tribal members who wanted to be
- 14:58taught by Melchizedek when they went through a schools in Salem.
- 15:03And you had to abide by these seven Commandments, Number one,
- 15:08you shall not serve any God, but the most high creator of Heaven
- 15:11and Earth. Number two shall not doubt.
- 15:14The faith is the only requirement for Eternal
- 15:17salvation. Number 3, you shall not bear
- 15:21false witness before you shall not kill number 5, you shall not
- 15:26steal. Number 6.
- 15:28You shall not commit adultery. Number seven, you shot on show
- 15:33disrespect for your parents and elders.
- 15:37And, and this was the way for Melchizedek to teach these semi
- 15:41savages. The least.
- 15:45So that they could maintain control and grow and those were
- 15:49truly must have been Advanced teachings in 1900 BC.
- 15:54This is the age of the Sumerians.
- 15:59Melchizedek taught Elementary revealed Truth at Salem for 94
- 16:02years, Melchizedek continued, for some years, to ensure
- 16:06instruct the students and to train the Salem missionaries who
- 16:10penetrated to all the surrounding tribes, especially
- 16:13to Egypt, Mesopotamia and Asia Minor.
- 16:16And as the decades passed, these teachers, Journey, farther and
- 16:20farther from Salem carrying with them, match event has Gospel of
- 16:24belief and faith in God. The lives and experiences of the
- 16:29men and women who ventured forth from Salem Mesopotamia and Lake
- 16:33van to Enlighten the tribes of the Eastern.
- 16:35Hemisphere present, a heroic chapter in the annals of the
- 16:39human race. But the task was so great in the
- 16:44tribes were so backward that the results were vague and
- 16:48indefinite from one generation to another, the Salem gospel
- 16:52found lodgment here and there but except in Palestine never
- 16:56was the idea of one. God able to claim continued
- 16:59allegiance of a whole tribe or race.
- 17:04Except in Palestine. And therein lies the.
- 17:07I think unspoken truth about why, the judaic religion, daheck
- 17:15religion is the one that maintain this Melchizedek truth,
- 17:20Even down to the Modern Age and I'll explain that in a little
- 17:24bit. Long before the coming of Jesus
- 17:29the teachings of the early States.
- 17:30Ala missionaries had become generally submerged in the older
- 17:34and more Universal superstitions and beliefs.
- 17:38The original Melchizedek gospel had been wholly, almost wholly,
- 17:41absorbed in the beliefs Of the great mother, the Sun, and other
- 17:46ancient cults. Then they right here from paper.
- 17:5093 section 7 paragraph for you. Who today enjoy the advantages
- 17:55of the art of printing little understand how difficult it was
- 17:58to perpetuate truth during these earlier times how easy it was to
- 18:03lose sight of a new doctrine from one generation to another.
- 18:07There was always a tendency for the new doctrine to become
- 18:10absorbed into the older body of religious teachings and magical
- 18:14practice. A new revelation is always
- 18:18contaminated by the older evolutionary beliefs.
- 18:24Should highlight that. A new revelation is always
- 18:27contaminated by the older, religious older evolutionary
- 18:31beliefs. And finally, on his departure,
- 18:35Melchizedek wanted to leave the scene of his Earthly activities,
- 18:39a sufficient length of time before Abraham's death to ensure
- 18:43that the truth of The One and Only God would be become
- 18:46strongly established in the minds of his followers.
- 18:50Accordingly match of enter retired, one night to his tent
- 18:53at Salem, having said, Can good night to his human Companions
- 18:58and when they went to call him in the morning he was not there
- 19:01for his fellows had taken him. He just was gone like that
- 19:08mission accomplished mission complete so you know you look
- 19:13back many phase particularly in Africa.
- 19:18I recently read an article by a man who is the Rancho book
- 19:22reader? Think it might have been a
- 19:24recent addition of Tidings, perhaps.
- 19:28And he said that being from Africa, he was a mop, a lot more
- 19:32influenced earlier on by abrahamic beliefs, but not so
- 19:37much in Christian teachings, and it was one of the things that
- 19:40attracted him to the Urantia book because the ranch book
- 19:43gives so much homage to Melchizedek and his teachings
- 19:46and his his contribution. So I found that interesting that
- 19:51it was through the erotic faith of an African who is now a year
- 19:55Rancho book reader that he Like the fact that the Iran chibok
- 19:59had so much Melchizedek in him or in the book, you know, in
- 20:02some Jewish teachings Melchizedek is described as the
- 20:05Archangel, Michael or that he represents Michael and the Torah
- 20:12which are the first five books of Moses, we are introduced to
- 20:14the Ten Commandments. and I'll mention this because it's among
- 20:19the more interesting of the interpretations of Melchizedek
- 20:26that in the Islamic religion, they believe that he will be the
- 20:31one who ushers in the new, dispensation the age of judgment
- 20:35and the age of atonement which sort of corresponds, a little
- 20:39bit with the Rancho book teachings because your answer
- 20:41book teachings, do say that it is likely that Melchizedek It's
- 20:48not done. He is of course, the titular,
- 20:51planetary Prince, taking Michaels place until the son of
- 20:55man returns. We're taught in the Rancho book,
- 20:58the equivalent of the second coming.
- 21:00And we're also told that Gunk hesitant could come in any time
- 21:03and he would be accompanied by his 11 fellows.
- 21:07They took him that last night in Salem and so those are the
- 21:13things to consider and paper. 93 is a great read and I highly
- 21:18recommended especially especially like me if you like
- 21:21the Genesis story. Was there something.
- 21:24I think there was something that they mentioned about that
- 21:27although Marquez attic is not referred to in the Quran.
- 21:30Al qasr take known as moloch. All Salam king of peace is
- 21:35believed to have been one to initiate Abraham and to
- 21:37Prophethood. And ismaili treaties dated back
- 21:41to the 1300s proclaimed that Melchizedek would return
- 21:46following the resurrection as the righteous judge and reveal
- 21:49the Divine Mysteries, which the prophets have kept secret
- 21:53throughout the centuries, the Divine mystery.
- 21:58And then, of course, there's this nugget from Cecil B Demille
- 22:0220th century. The light of God.
- 22:07Shines from you Moses. Turn up new to me, Joshua.
- 22:14Tablets of stone writing of God, his Ten Commandments.
- 22:21There is a noise of war in the camp.
- 22:24It is not the noise of War. It is the noise of song and
- 22:29revelry. You are not worthy to receive
- 22:34these 10 commandments. We will not live by your
- 22:37Commandments. We're free.
- 22:40There is no freedom without the law.
