- 0:40Welcome back to hamster with a blunt penknife the Doctor Who
- 0:43commentary podcast its Fury from the deep episode for its Mark
- 0:50datuk. Now officially top-10 have the
- 0:54star. Listen, hello Mark, hello.
- 0:58Yes, I do expected honor that. I was not excited dissipating to
- 1:02made the top ten buddy. Yes, it's down to two fingers
- 1:05down to you're deliriously, sexy accent, or different gets down.
- 1:09Into the riveting content, you provide.
- 1:14Well, I know you trip on a compliment I guess I didn't know
- 1:20what to do with compliments. This Bat it back at you.
- 1:24I am. I hope it's because I'm bringing
- 1:27scintillating commentary content.
- 1:30Absolutely. As soon as well, does somebody
- 1:34like that was your first commentary as well?
- 1:35Wasn't it so? So, and that obviously generated
- 1:38a lot of interest. So thank you very popular out
- 1:43there, you know, other than me, makes you got on the interweb,
- 1:45but by the sounds of it quite a lot.
- 1:48Oh yeah. I don't know.
- 1:49I don't know. I honestly don't know but if
- 1:51thank you, kindly, everybody. That listens and continues to
- 1:55listen for gracing us with your presence.
- 1:57Yeah, much appreciated. We recorded episodes 123 of Fury
- 2:04a little while back. So we've had a bit of a break
- 2:06because it is suicide to do six episodes in one night.
- 2:10Right? I feel like we're watching it on
- 2:14the perfect time. Those a cold winter night?
- 2:17Yes. NE fabulous blankie wrap their,
- 2:21I'm in the thermals. It's winter that I think, is a
- 2:25perfect time for a scary Doctor Who story.
- 2:28Oh, definitely. I think we're better wrapped up
- 2:30then Debbie Watling, and probably better at facing this.
- 2:33Yeah, did you read that story about Debbie warbling on the
- 2:35crews? Did I tell you that?
- 2:38Oh, maybe what was? It was very times autobiography,
- 2:41you know what? You should they said, nobody
- 2:43disembark the ship. But did we wanted hadn't heard
- 2:47the message. So she's on this little dinghy
- 2:48going off to shore into the eye of a bloody storm.
- 2:54It does seem like she was a bit day important to Mad situations
- 2:58and a bit and a bit of an anarchist.
- 3:01Maybe our dear friends, I Hulk who looked after a while the
- 3:04sieve Doctor Who said that she was an absolute error.
- 3:07She didn't give up and also fans or she was drinking have
- 3:10cigarettes. Yeah, that seems to be the main
- 3:12impression I get, oh God offering more don't see.
- 3:16People should be aligned conventions.
- 3:17You know. It'd be a lot more fun.
- 3:20Absolutely a mic so I'd like you to please.
- 3:25If you would like I do every now and again see that people have
- 3:27been paying attention. Let us know what has occurred in
- 3:31a fiery from the deep to date to catch people up.
- 3:35And you, you would get in there and asked me that before I had a
- 3:37chance quite a bit. Actually, quite a lot has
- 3:42happened quite a bit, has happened and largely a lot of
- 3:48it's got to do with the fact that Chief Robson is unwilling
- 3:52to admit. That something large and ominous
- 3:57is throbbing in his pipeline. Many men are have that problem,
- 4:03you know, They're incredibly repressed.
- 4:10What precisely is flopping in his pipeline?
- 4:12Then well something waiting for me.
- 4:18You're terrible into this. All right.
- 4:22Okay he's bagged and then people like you come on this thing.
- 4:27Turn it into a filth perfectly innocent statement.
- 4:32It's not. It's correct.
- 4:34Is true. Is in fact sentient seaweed.
- 4:40Yes, there was supposed to. Yes, others have been to that as
- 4:42well. Ah, there you go.
- 4:44What the tone? Right back down again.
- 4:46It's yes. And which it has been a bit
- 4:49spooky. I wasn't theirs.
- 4:52It's like not lots of prolonged scenes of women being
- 4:54overpowered by Harry, Laurel and Hardy types.
- 4:58Yeah. And something very eerie about a
- 5:02lot of what we've seen so far. It's very atmospheric and rather
- 5:06than having Lots of very Dynamic jumps and scares and thrills and
- 5:13set pieces that a lot of Doctor Who even at this early stage in
- 5:16its history would be having. It is just about the build and
- 5:19the momentum and slowly building towards, you know, some dark.
- 5:24Something that's lurking there and causing all this Mayhem and
- 5:28we left it with the end of episode 3, which is one
- 5:30probably, one of the eeriest strangest.
- 5:33Cliffhangers where mrs. Robinson walks.
- 5:37I'm just not Robson Harris, mrs. Harris, walks out into the sea,
- 5:40just silently and seemingly to murder herself.
- 5:45Yeah. Very much like the lines.
- 5:49Not the late Autumn about the bushes on a Saturday night in
- 5:52Brighton. There is something down there in
- 5:55the pipeline waiting. Well, should we dive dive into
- 6:02episode 4? I think.
- 6:03I am so for you know have some really scary seems that it down
- 6:06the impeller shaft oh definitely have you ever explored an
- 6:11impeller Shaft or two? Not for some time.
- 6:18Okay, would you care to explore one with me right now?
- 6:23Oh yes. Haha, you make up for lost time.
- 6:31Three, two one. This podcast is like cereal.
- 6:36Fucking bigger me also wears a gold.
- 6:39Now, I'm watching on the brick box which only has the black and
- 6:42white version of the animation. I think last time I was watching
- 6:47the color. But yeah, we did talk a lot
- 6:50about the animation last time. Having watched the last three
- 6:54episodes I've got to say, as the action content ramps up?
- 6:59I think the animation takes on a bit of a life is own.
- 7:02Like, yes, I think a few Liberties are may be taken, but
- 7:05probably for the benefit of the group, The Wider piece, I just
- 7:11couldn't get my liege. I can't get my head around those
- 7:14massive arms, everybody's got its is the most bizarre.
- 7:18Our effect on our brothers, ha ha, but it is a bit comical is
- 7:23there. Yeah, they're just totally
- 7:24disproportionate. And you've got just when the
- 7:28flail it is when they grow up in the air.
- 7:31Yeah. Overemphasizes everything
- 7:34honestly. It's like, but it's like a
- 7:35child's drawer, you know? As a child and you
- 7:38disproportionately draw people with tiny head, some things like
- 7:41that. It's like that.
- 7:44Oh, that's very menacing. The way the Seas rolling across
- 7:46the camera like that. I quite like That that's one of
- 7:49those little flourishes that the animators have brought which I
- 7:54think is rather nice cars. Your question about the weed.
- 7:57Hmm well I was I was thinking about this monster the weed
- 8:02which I think is a bit unusual because you don't really find
- 8:07out what motivates this thing. Do you you don't really find out
- 8:10what they're trying to do it. What is trying to achieve?
- 8:13It is just taking over people seemingly murdering people
- 8:17although it turns out not And behaving in a particularly
- 8:20Sinister way like doesn't want to take over the world.
- 8:22I don't think we ever learn. No, I don't think we do but that
- 8:26often. It's sometimes me it's things a
- 8:30bit better in a lot of ways. If you don't know the complete
- 8:33motivation of a monster or a villain.
- 8:36Yes they're just going about Wicked and scary things.
- 8:41Sometimes things are left your imagination.
- 8:42It's a bit like the original alien film.
- 8:45You don't see the Monster an awful lot, but you know, what's
- 8:47going to get you ultimately similar to this, there's
- 8:51something moving. It's probably going to get you
- 8:53eventually, nobody knows quite why but it just seems to be in
- 8:57its nature. ER, and it's going to get you
- 8:58regardless. I mean, I think it sort of takes
- 9:01all the right boxes. It takes over people make some
- 9:03acts in a Sinister way. It comes bursting out of
- 9:08ventilations shafts and attacks people, you know?
- 9:12Yeah. And that sort of unknowable
- 9:15evil. Sometimes, I even when I watch
- 9:18horror movies, and I feel like it's doing a bang-up job with
- 9:21the suspense and and then at the end, you either get a reveal of
- 9:27of a monster. Something or villain and it's
- 9:29just terrible. You know the actual realization
- 9:33is terrible or you get a motive which is like a really, you
- 9:37know, some specs and lover or, you know.
- 9:40Yeah. And it has previously discussed
- 9:42the brain. That was sucking out there the
- 9:44energy of the emotional energy of everybody and try and take
- 9:47over the planet of all come on now.
- 9:49Ha, ha. And it it can cling to spoil
- 9:51what you've conjured in your imagination.
- 9:53It's a bit late, maybe reading a novel and having an impression
- 9:56of what a monster or the Villain of the piece is like a name,
- 10:00seeing it adapt it as well. And it not living up to your
- 10:02expectation can be. It's I think it can be jarring
- 10:07if it's not if it doesn't quite live up to the premise would.
- 10:10Um but listen in series, I hmm. Where the whole point of the
- 10:16bloody story was, you never find out.
- 10:19I mean, I think that you never find out what the Menace is just
- 10:22that it is remember, it's like banging on the doors in the few
- 10:25times and then you've got the thing under the Blanket.
- 10:28Ah, and that's terrifying. I was scary and that's not
- 10:33people criticizing the episode, right?
- 10:34Well, what was it? What was it all about?
- 10:36That's the fucking point, you don't know that's scary.
- 10:40You know, it's your imagination is filled in so much and what
- 10:45you imagine, you know, it's probably going to be a deep fear
- 10:48or a trigger, something in your subconscious.
- 10:50And if it turns out that it's us, just some gimmick or
- 10:53something. If it doesn't meet that
- 10:56expectation suddenly flatlines, I think for some people that
- 11:01sort of lack of definition is annoying.
- 11:04Those people that like everything but you know, like
- 11:07the chronology of every single big finish Adventure.
- 11:09Well, where is it set? What story is it set?
- 11:12Because if there's no if there's a reference to when it's are and
- 11:15they can't possibly enjoy the story in its own right.
- 11:18Yeah, I feel sorry for those types.
- 11:25But it does take a lot of different people to make the
- 11:27world go round. It does it really does and
- 11:31Doctor Who fans come in, many shapes and sizes.
- 11:34Don't we all thinking in the face?
- 11:39That's all fan. Who likes everything to find
- 11:42and, you know, well given how Easily triggered.
- 11:49He is by the slightest deviation to it.
- 11:53Is your moral duty marked by both blue rice?
- 11:57It's like, I'm already doing that.
- 11:59That's I don't care. If you can't feed yourself or
- 12:02pay the heating bill. You should buy those Blu-rays.
- 12:05Yeah, it's like my goodness. I think you are, perhaps not
- 12:10grasping that we're living in a bit of a difficult time right
- 12:12now. Not everybody can afford such
- 12:13luxuries like fucking Millions out.
- 12:17Records of way. It's not had a meteoric success
- 12:20with dr. In distress.
- 12:22Exactly. Yes.
- 12:23We don't have that. Sort of success, Welcome Way of
- 12:27peace, from Fear of the day. You have an I take us back on
- 12:30track, come on. Yeah, trouble.
- 12:32Or are we where we got to? And I think we've just missed a
- 12:36very lovely seamless the doctor and Victoria talking about how
- 12:38she feels Oh is everything shifts?
- 12:42Why can't we ever go anywhere? Nice?
- 12:43Yeah, she's got going. Oh, it's just that's quite a
- 12:47drop of time for the last few stories, really?
- 12:50It's been shitty - bye. Ice Warriors, yetis, Patrick
- 12:58troughton with a bit of black makeup on his face, you know,
- 13:01like A terrible long time? No, no.
- 13:06I mean this is this is a deliberately spookier the show
- 13:10isn't it? So oh yeah I think if any
- 13:12companion in this area said I've had enough.
- 13:14This is too creepy. Hmm.
- 13:16Hey dudes. Oh yeah I think if you were to
- 13:19go into the Tardis with any sort of anxiety disorder it's not
- 13:22going to improve. Jesus Christ.
- 13:25Shall be no till then. Yeah well gold imagine I mean
- 13:28being stuck in a London Underground, the next and old
- 13:30light on and the chance of being Something approaching a big
- 13:34hairy bear or something. I don't know what you made would
- 13:41be thrilled by the prospect. Leave that Bloody towels.
- 13:44If you do, I'll be like that are more.
- 13:45I hear things reading a good book.
- 13:47Oh yeah. Be like to have an adventure
- 13:50Beyond where the little lie lies next to the food machine.
- 13:52I'll be fine. I'll be fine.
- 13:54Look Joe, you signed up for the adventurer.
- 13:56I think your bloody eye guy now they are.
- 13:57All right I'll watch it from the scanner.
- 14:00It's fine. I want to be like to you get
- 14:03Perry though going out and then always win.
- 14:06Do they want to go back? Just stay in there.
- 14:09All is going down in the impeller shop.
- 14:11These are the scenes. These are marsupials, hell these
- 14:13things. Yeah.
- 14:16Do you know why? What beyond the fact that he's
- 14:19in a very dark, space underground, being menaced by
- 14:23something unknowable, you got Douglass in some going, dum, dum
- 14:27dum, dum, dum, dum, dum dum, it can crazy on the piano.
- 14:32It's great. I'm loving the fact that this is
- 14:34the sort of the era where he starts to race the synthesizer a
- 14:37wee bit and get some. Read your phonic help with its
- 14:39own tracks. Because that's that's the sort
- 14:42of series is a season 8 of Doctor Who is the one that I saw
- 14:47a lot on VHS when I was really Done.
- 14:49Some people don't like Dudley Simpsons scores for that year.
- 14:52But for me, it's very evocative. And when you hear somebody, did
- 14:56you say season 8? Yeah.
- 14:57With their sort of all units stories in the master stories of
- 15:00like I love see you tonight. Gave us but do do, do, do, do,
- 15:07why pick me? Josh take exactly and I love
- 15:10that and I like all the, there's something about the clothes back
- 15:12sauce from either works. It's one of the best ones for
- 15:15me. And that certainly is that
- 15:17Europe. And all these sort of Sighs
- 15:18sounds that you get tastes of with some of the 60 stories that
- 15:22he does as well. Well, the shrieking in the
- 15:24howling of the ice Warriors in the space pirates may be a bit
- 15:27much. Oh yeah, I love all of that
- 15:30order. That's what of probably going to
- 15:33do. This is really good as far as
- 15:41well. Space pirates can even attempt
- 15:44it but it's just lots of music. I like, It's a bit different
- 15:53from the norm though. Yeah suppose especially given
- 15:56that they were going to. They were sort of striving to
- 15:58give a bit of a What's the word realism till the space seems so
- 16:03everything is really slow. Slow jam.
- 16:10Yeah. So did you scare somebody to
- 16:13shriek over it instead? A story so irrelevant.
- 16:17They managed to pre film the scenes with the regulars and the
- 16:19last step aside, that's how much they impact the story.
- 16:23Oh yes. But can you imagine anything
- 16:25more Sinister for a child and watching this?
- 16:27Grown-ass man heading down into To This creepy, dark space,
- 16:32laughs own rushing up and he literally it wraps himself
- 16:36around him and brings him down into the finest.
- 16:40I can understand why that's when those sensor clips that.
- 16:45Yeah. Looks really sensors to Kill Ya.
- 16:48That is the annoying thing about this.
- 16:50Those their song by saying, yeah, it's like, what else are
- 16:53we missing? I've told him this story.
- 16:57I am and so many other stories from this era.
- 17:00I'm yeah, that's fantastic. But where would you say we're
- 17:04just Fury sit with you? Is it one that it would it be
- 17:08one that you would want over any other stories?
- 17:11Or is it further down the list? Sorry.
- 17:14Sorry to anyone who adores food from the table and you know
- 17:16what? I'm actually coming to the
- 17:17conclusion that is very good about it.
- 17:20With Yahoo will be ambivalent at the start.
- 17:23Yeah I mean you can't have say that this and say something
- 17:25terrible, if not also Megan Jones has come a long way.
- 17:30Minute. I've forgotten how bozize Megan
- 17:32Jones. Walls, she's pretty good.
- 17:34I like her. There's, I think, the, this era
- 17:38of the show, although there's not a lot of female characters.
- 17:42There's usually at least one standout female role in most of
- 17:45the stories and Triton, Sera going to think now, or you got
- 17:48fabulous Faria and as fight, enemy of the world and they're
- 17:51brilliant. That's if you got mascara
- 17:55mascara, you've got an Travers, Miss Kelly, I Miss Kelly.
- 18:00Amazing. And what about the fabulous
- 18:03woman? Who recounts the history of the
- 18:05dulcian people in the dominators can do?
- 18:09Oh, yeah. That's terrible.
- 18:14That one who Gets Zapped in a Facebook, a quark and her face
- 18:17Mills. Oh, that's such a, such a
- 18:20horrible thing because lady Jennifer, yes, I'll bless you.
- 18:25Just are Jean Sherman. Just passed away recently?
- 18:28Oh, I know she's fabulous. Why you said it?
- 18:30Commentary' because Lee from The Highlanders, but she's a bit of
- 18:34a sniffler. Yeah, she's not exactly treated.
- 18:37Very kindly by Polly. Oh, what about Sam brakes?
- 18:41Yeah, brilliant, Sam, Briggs in her hat.
- 18:44Maybe as you're well that's that's a fair amount of strong
- 18:47women there. It's really good and it's quite
- 18:51odd that you then going to the part where you're at and the
- 18:55Hinchcliffe here. And there's very there's a lot
- 18:57of stories where the companion is the only female.
- 19:01Well, I can think of more strong women in a way.
- 19:05Hinge, gave our fingers really tall but yeah, I think Robert
- 19:09Holmes said that he didn't like Kaput.
- 19:13He didn't like to put women in villainous roles and he didn't
- 19:16like bad things happening to women.
- 19:18So he would always just cast men and let horrible things happen
- 19:21to men, but then he wrote some of the absolute best episodes of
- 19:24Blake's 7 and had surveillance and pin it up like mad.
- 19:28Yeah, learn his lesson, definitely.
- 19:32Sorry. It's a bit about your question,
- 19:35two episodes to find. I'm going to be a bit obvious
- 19:39but I would want to find some of those Hartnell.
- 19:41Oracle's. So, I would love for Marco Polo,
- 19:45the mythmakers, and the massacre to be returned.
- 19:48One could I just think they looked?
- 19:50They probably looked amazing and to, it's just bloody good
- 19:52scripts, well-acted. Yeah, I think they story of
- 19:55calls from what we do have. I've always been really well
- 19:58realized so it would be, it'd be nice to fill in some of those
- 20:02blanks. What about you?
- 20:05I have always been super intrigued by the Dalek stories
- 20:13in the heart, in the black-and-white Europe because I
- 20:15had the Doctor Who sixties book that came out in the early 90s
- 20:18when I was a kid and pouring over the imagery in that and not
- 20:21real. I was too young to really absorb
- 20:24the information of it missing episodes.
- 20:26I was just looking at Telus naps and great publicity Stills for
- 20:29the Daleks on Vulcan, on skaro, in the master in Dalek master
- 20:34plan on Timberland. I was I want to see these these
- 20:37lips so enticing. And I still want to see them.
- 20:41Now, how to fucking hell did I forget about power of the
- 20:44Daleks? That would be my number one.
- 20:46Aha, Alex. I think that would be.
- 20:51That would be an absolute coup would be amazing.
- 20:53I would love to see even if we couldn't have a complete master
- 20:57plan, I'd love to see the last episode.
- 21:00Yeah. Oh God, yeah.
- 21:02It's the most Grim fatalistic episode of Doctor Who for long
- 21:07secrets with the time Destructor.
- 21:09Aha. And does Canfield directing so
- 21:12hard or it can only be a good thing.
- 21:14Desperation, amazing heart. You know, this is a very good
- 21:17suspense technique. They've had van luncheons go
- 21:19down into that shaft and be to waste, like, screaming his head
- 21:23off, and then they have the doctor and Jamie go after him,
- 21:26so, you know what's down there? Ah, and I are just going.
- 21:30It's nuisance, eclipse of that as well.
- 21:32Yeah, there's bits of them trying to sort of Desperately
- 21:34Scrabble. The wave while the reaps
- 21:35beginning to thrash, it's yeah, it's sort of going into that
- 21:41Peril of not knowing They don't necessarily know what, they're
- 21:45letting themselves in for his great builds, that suspense,
- 21:48I've got a question for you, then about missing episodes
- 21:52eyes, you know, to be contrary, which absolutely dismal story.
- 21:58Would you want to be see returned and reappraised?
- 22:04I think, oh, I don't know. Of the historical 's, I think
- 22:12the Smugglers is a bit overlooked.
- 22:15I would be really intrigued to see that come back and be
- 22:18reappraised, because I imagine it's quite good.
- 22:20Actually, I think the Savages would be re-approach that they
- 22:24came back. That's what money.
- 22:25We forgot about all the time, but it's quite strong.
- 22:29Actually, when you listen to the soundtrack.
- 22:31Yeah, that really intrigues me and I like the Frederick,
- 22:35Frederick Frederick Yeager, as it was the opposite.
- 22:38Leaders name. I started to Gene or yes.
- 22:41I don't know what you mean. Dear boy.
- 22:45I seems like he really invested a lot in that, and I love do.
- 22:50Do I really like her as a companion?
- 22:52So, the more I see for the best, this massive dodo reappraisal
- 22:56this guy, and I don't know, often people are going crazy.
- 22:58You know, I've always loved her when I got there are conveyed,
- 23:02you, I just liked her immediately.
- 23:06Are you crying? No, it's windows.
- 23:08We do. Did you say what the doctor just
- 23:12said, then that is the filthiest light of this whole thing he
- 23:16said is filled the entire shaft, all my animated Megan Josie with
- 23:24her hands on her hips like a pentode, a look.
- 23:26Yes. Because she's a sassy
- 23:28businesswoman, you know, she means business with very
- 23:31sensible Shoes by the looks of it too.
- 23:33Mmm, it's nice though. She still comes in and she has
- 23:36an established relationship with Robinson.
- 23:39So it's not like she comes in and just patronizes him like she
- 23:42tries to reach out to him in a really well acted.
- 23:44See nothing. Yeah.
- 23:46I think it's I think it's really nice.
- 23:48So I think we've probably touched on this when we did the
- 23:50first three parts but Victor Pemberton.
- 23:54Maybe wasn't the strongest writer, certainly this point in
- 23:57his career but he was quite good at characterful touches and it
- 24:02seems to me there's a good motivation in a reason for a lot
- 24:05of the things that people are doing and the interactions that
- 24:07they have You can similarly, when he's being assisted script
- 24:10editing, most of this season, prior there have been lots of
- 24:15lovely little touches, which more or less disappeared as soon
- 24:17as season 6 Stars. So it makes you wonder was
- 24:21Victor Pemberton to you. You're behind all of these
- 24:24character touches and flourishes and moment, because there's not
- 24:28much of it in the season for either.
- 24:31Wow, so sort of after David Whittaker leaves and before
- 24:35Victor Pemberton comes along. And then after it's been, yeah,
- 24:38Yeah, I think you're right because there's that lovely bit
- 24:41interval assignment is in between Victor Victoria and the
- 24:43door. It's really Charming B in
- 24:47abominable snowmen. Yeah.
- 24:50We previously talked about Clinton penley in ice Warriors
- 24:56and and just characters like, for real and Griffin.
- 25:00The chef in. Yeah, we must have, yeah, it is
- 25:04a little something extra and David Whittaker working
- 25:07together. That's not match made in heaven.
- 25:10Did you see that? David Whittaker, documentary, on
- 25:12the Blu-ray set? Yes, I do.
- 25:14He was canceled like, in the seventies.
- 25:17That broke my heart. Why?
- 25:19He was a great writer. Yes, such a shame because and I
- 25:23can't wait to get a hold of the book.
- 25:25I'll be fascinated to find out what Simon garrier has.
- 25:29What else? He's uncovered because he, they
- 25:31was this unknowable figure. There's so much of his life that
- 25:34we were unaware of, and I have to admit that I did have a, we I
- 25:37did well up towards The documentary.
- 25:39It's quite a touching quite sad. And really, yes, when she given
- 25:46how his Doctor Who career giving me the helped launch Doctor Who
- 25:49and made it the success that it was.
- 25:51Oh, definitely. How's really quite Angelov.
- 25:54You want anyone's do a book like this?
- 25:56I'm a Girish your man. I don't know if you ever read
- 25:58big finish the inside story, but it's so full of the scandalous,
- 26:01gossip and interviews, it's amazing.
- 26:05I really should get my hands on it.
- 26:07Oh man, it recounts all Spots that I had in those early days
- 26:10of big finish. Oh, brilliant.
- 26:13Well the I like, you know, reading all the bitchiness that
- 26:16goes on behind the scenes. I'm not that sort of person but
- 26:18I think it adds an extra little bit of something.
- 26:21You know, you don't want to wait.
- 26:22It's when you read these really dried really books and they're
- 26:25like, yeah, but they filmed this on a Monday.
- 26:27They filmed this on the Tuesday. They filmed this on Wednesday
- 26:30and they got a memo about on the Thursday, you're sitting there
- 26:33going, that's really boring. When does it get to the bit
- 26:36where sons of stops on? So in the back, come on.
- 26:38I've been reading the robot Homes book that came out of the
- 26:41biography and it is, it's full of interesting stuff that I
- 26:44didn't know about and shows that you wrote for that, I didn't
- 26:46really know about mmm, but the only really desperately
- 26:49interesting part was when he was scripted that, uh, and he's
- 26:53having to send off notes to All these established writers, like
- 26:56Jerry Davis and Terrance dicks and he's pissing everybody off.
- 26:58And I was like, man, this is gold.
- 27:00He says, the Jerry Davis, I'm sorry, but the show has become a
- 27:03bit more sophisticated and as you were evolved and you need,
- 27:06no up your game with this script.
- 27:09Husband, I guess it must be interesting having to navigate
- 27:12those sorts of their relationships.
- 27:15So Karen here, west of Jamie's of what's occurring.
- 27:19I've completely lost track of what's occurring in Fury from
- 27:21the deep. Yes, we've gone off on tangents
- 27:23again. Well, yes, in a way to make the
- 27:27in six Partners. Last, you know, you have to go
- 27:31around the house a little bit. Thank you, patient listener for
- 27:35bearing with us. Almost happened to Victoria.
- 27:40Okay. Ben will, she's been overpowered
- 27:43again? Mmm, I've got a thing about
- 27:45overpowering women. Don't they, they do ya.
- 27:49It's a bit. Well, no more not delve too deep
- 27:51into that. You when I go close up on
- 27:54phrase, eyes his face there. They animation they'd given him
- 27:56not full lips, very full for me Hayden.
- 28:00Very pretty. They have got better with anime
- 28:02in the face as I've gotta say because some of those early
- 28:05attempts for been looked like an auton facsimile.
- 28:08Yeah. He's Really square face and get
- 28:11some B seem a bit misjudged. But when this one came along in,
- 28:14there was the initial stills of the character designs.
- 28:18I thought that they'd really quite got a good resemblance for
- 28:22for Victoria and 4G me and the doctor as well, there's moments
- 28:25in this world. There's a really, really quite
- 28:27good characterizations. The doctor never quite captures
- 28:31the essence of Triton, but there's moments where you go,
- 28:34that's quite good. Well, you and we said it in
- 28:37Parts. 1 2 3. I kept saying that this is very
- 28:42out of the ordinary, like what would be sort of domestic
- 28:45scenes? I think that I is a very unusual
- 28:48story Patrick troughton. Hmm, like, especially at the end
- 28:52where he hangs about and sees Victoria of and I think had he
- 28:55done anything else. That would have been a bit weird
- 28:57and it just got a white wall or off.
- 28:59See you later Victoria. That it's just he never ever
- 29:02does that anywhere else? Like, yo dancing off in the
- 29:06macro Tara or just dashing off a way.
- 29:09The bases at the end of all the others that's quite nice.
- 29:12That the heat makes an exception for Victoria everybody else.
- 29:18He's quite happy to turn his back on, literally any other
- 29:21situation but for Victoria he gives her time to think about
- 29:24her decision and it's quite nice.
- 29:28It get it shows you a different site is dr.
- 29:30Last night. They can't think of another time
- 29:32when he talks about his feelings, but the last line in
- 29:34this, where he goes, I was fond of her too, you know?
- 29:37I was like wow, that is I'm really out of character, but the
- 29:41second. Yeah, it's a bit like, hey, it's
- 29:43similar to the fourth doctor with Lila leaves and he closes
- 29:48the door. Oh, yeah.
- 29:49Nobody else hears him. Say I'll miss you too Savage and
- 29:54it's that that's, that's, that's a rare show of emotion, for the
- 29:56fourth doctor. It's when these irreverent
- 29:59doctors are so used to sort of commanding the scenes and
- 30:02outwitting everybody show a bit of vulnerability.
- 30:05Hmm. Well, it was nice and I thought
- 30:07to myself, I could With a bit more, that's actually uh, huh.
- 30:12Because it's a bit and remember the bit in the war games where
- 30:14he kisses Zoe and he says goodbye my dear think or but
- 30:18they were sweet wine company. Hmm ended.
- 30:21How did the doctor saying the battle of the Giants or
- 30:27something like that? Is about, we stop all about I
- 30:31really don't know. There's a few lines and things
- 30:33that I think Victor Pemberton was just very attached to and
- 30:36want to get them said rather than I'm thinking about the
- 30:39context because you know who was scripted a thing.
- 30:42This Derek Sherman or they all blame me in for it then he
- 30:47blames of yeah. But it's the same because it was
- 30:49going to be called colony of devils.
- 30:51That's right. The working title and that
- 30:54doesn't really make an awful lot of sense.
- 30:56You can this wait for a few revisions and some of these
- 30:58things just slip through the cracks I'm not sure I'd seems to
- 31:02me that even when you read the novelization as well, I can't
- 31:04think of examples of the top of my head.
- 31:06But there's instances where that depends were to just uses
- 31:08Expressions, which I think he's just really Keen to use, right?
- 31:13So, they're just thrown in and you go.
- 31:15What bearing does that have the rest of this paragraph?
- 31:18Battle of the Giants? What are we trying to pull any
- 31:23of Devil's? He made.
- 31:23Sure, he says that in the end, you think?
- 31:27What does that has no bearing on this at all?
- 31:29What does that mean? God knows, who knows who?
- 31:33All I know is, is we've got a skip in to episode 5 right now.
- 31:37Yes. Are you ready to do it with me?
- 31:40I'm ready. When you are, let's go.
