- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. I'm standing here in the garage
- 0:31very early getting ready to go out, do some work today.
- 0:36In between, I've got a couple of little gaps in my schedule where
- 0:39I can go out and do some work. But funny story about yesterday
- 0:44and wanted to share this with you.
- 0:46So my son who is Mr. Mechanical, always Mr. Mechanical said
- 0:52yesterday afternoon I had this person who had to move at the
- 0:55last minute. So I have all these bags that my
- 0:58son helped me go get the other day of in dirt just to go into
- 1:03these tomato bins that we're using instead of the ground
- 1:06because of this virus that plagues me, that drives me
- 1:09insane. So I have a lot of tomatoes.
- 1:12I'm pretty obsessed with growing tomatoes.
- 1:14I've got I think 36 plants and I had bought 20 gallon fabric bags
- 1:20to plant these in and protect them so that they can't get the
- 1:24virus. I got half of them set up,
- 1:27needed more dirt, run back to buy more dirt and set it all up.
- 1:31Now if I can get help doing some of this bag lifting.
- 1:35These are 50 gallon bags. They're big, they're heavy.
- 1:38I can do them by myself, but if my son is available, I'll ask
- 1:41for some help. So he, he comes out to help me
- 1:45and he said, where's your garden knife?
- 1:47So I've got this specific Japanese garden knife that I
- 1:50love to use. And he picks it up and he goes
- 1:53to start using it and stabbing the bag to, to cut it and then
- 1:56dump it into it. And he stops and he grabs my arm
- 2:00and he said, what are you doing with this knife?
- 2:03And I was like, what are you talking about?
- 2:05It's the knife I always use. And he's like, this knife is in
- 2:08terrible condition. This knife is dull and that
- 2:12makes it dangerous. And I was started laughing and I
- 2:15said, oh, I've heard that about kitchen knives.
- 2:18And he proceeds to go on and tell me about how all knives, if
- 2:23they're not sharp, are more dangerous than if they are
- 2:26sharp. And I said, that's interesting.
- 2:28I have not heard it phrased that way before.
- 2:30And he's like, oh, yes, if the knives get at all dull, if these
- 2:35knives get at all dull, they become extremely dangerous
- 2:38because you can hurt yourself. And, and I mean, I, I've always
- 2:42heard, heard about the whole thing, sharpen your knife, all
- 2:44of that. But he gave me such a clear and
- 2:47direct message about this, like, look, you need to pay attention
- 2:50to this. This needs to be taken care of
- 2:52ASAP. There is no exception to the
- 2:54rule We have. You either get rid of this knife
- 2:57or you go get, you get it sharpened.
- 3:00I mean, we'll see if dad can do it.
- 3:01He's like, but I don't know the shape, the curve of it, it might
- 3:04not be able to be sharpened. So I started thinking about that
- 3:08in the metaphor of like, OK, well, this is a tool that I use
- 3:13all the time and I didn't even realize that it had become dull
- 3:18because I had I become desensitized to it.
- 3:20It goes in the ground. I'm constantly chopping with it,
- 3:25digging out roots. It's like, it's a Japanese knife
- 3:28that's like serrated on one side, sharp on the other.
- 3:30And it's kind of shaped like a scoop, but a skinny scoop.
- 3:34So all of this, you know, is such a great lesson in the sense
- 3:40that we pay attention to things when we when we know that
- 3:45they're like really bad. But what happens when we become
- 3:48desensitized and we don't recognize how bad it's getting?
- 3:51Because I didn't even recognize that this knife was that dull.
- 3:54I knew it wasn't as sharp as it used to be, but I had become
- 3:58comfortable. I had become the proverbial, you
- 4:01know, frog in the pot of water, not even noticing it.
- 4:04And then he proceeds to tell me how it slows down my progress
- 4:07because it's not that. And that's when it really got to
- 4:10me. Oh my gosh, this slows down my
- 4:12process. This is making it harder for me
- 4:14to succeed and get done out here quicker because time is valuable
- 4:19to me. It's one of my greatest assets,
- 4:21finding time, having time. So where is this showing up?
- 4:25So I immediately came in, put the knife on the bench where
- 4:28it's I'm currently looking at it and said, OK, I've got to get
- 4:32this taken care of or I've got to go get a new knife because
- 4:34this is not working. And then it got me really
- 4:36thinking about skills overall. What other skills need to be
- 4:40sharpened? What other things?
- 4:42Where do I need to put in some new rules?
- 4:44So I did some new recordings for my mantras.
- 4:48I got, I've been listening on repeat to the same audible for,
- 4:53I don't know, the last month and a half.
- 4:55And I typically do that where I'll get into something and I'll
- 4:58listen and I'll listen and I'll listen and I'll listen.
- 5:00And I was like, Nope, you know what?
- 5:01I'm going to pull up a new one. Something I haven't heard
- 5:04before. I'm going to start diving into
- 5:06that and immediately it gives you a shift, a boost, you start
- 5:12to feel better. So now I'm spending my, you
- 5:15know, the rest of this week looking around and going, all
- 5:17right, what else do I need to tidy up, sharpen so that I
- 5:21recognize how I can actually be at that level and at that best?
- 5:25So the question of the day is, what do you need to sharpen?
- 5:27My friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:31tomorrow. Bye.
