- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to the ned Palty.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:06Speaker 3: This is Nick and Astasu, story editor on Star Wars,
- 0:10Speaker 3: The Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch, and you
- 0:14Speaker 3: are listening to aggressive negotiations.
- 0:23Speaker 4: We hello, and welcome to aggressive negotiations coming at you
- 0:27Speaker 4: from a very mysterious location called at At And we
- 0:30Speaker 4: honestly don't even know where we are or how we
- 0:32Speaker 4: got here. But I'm just one of your hosts here
- 0:34Speaker 4: Matthew Rushing and with me as he is every single week,
- 0:38Speaker 4: the illustrious Jedi Master John Mills. John, have you gotten
- 0:43Speaker 4: your analysis work done? Because we kind of need that
- 0:46Speaker 4: for the great work and you're really slowing us up.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Dude.
- 0:50Speaker 5: Well, you know I don't do particularly well in structured environments.
- 0:53Speaker 5: I need a much less rigid learning environment, and that's
- 0:57Speaker 5: why I haven't done anything for the great work.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I haven't done work as a matter of fact.
- 1:01Speaker 5: And as far as us being you know, lost, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 5: not quite sure where we are, I told you not
- 1:07Speaker 5: to ask Chopper for directions, and so this is kind
- 1:10Speaker 5: of on you, but we'll make the best of it
- 1:13Speaker 5: and go ahead and record a you aggressive negotiations here.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Well, everybody, while you're looking for us, you can still
- 1:19Speaker 4: ping us. We're getting social media posts, so you can
- 1:22Speaker 4: always check us out at the Jedi Masters on x Twitter.
- 1:27Speaker 4: We're also with the entire network at joint nerd Party
- 1:30Speaker 4: you gulyso find us on Instagram at the nerd Party,
- 1:33Speaker 4: and of course we're online at the nerd Party dot
- 1:35Speaker 4: com where you can find all of the different shows
- 1:37Speaker 4: we're doing. Plus you can find us over on that
- 1:40Speaker 4: old dinosaur Facebook at facebook dot com slash the nerd Party,
- 1:44Speaker 4: where I think only old people are now John, which
- 1:48Speaker 4: is great because you know, both you and.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I are, well we're getting older.
- 1:52Speaker 4: So but I think we have I would say, John
- 1:57Speaker 4: a very fun show for everybody because we have been
- 2:02Speaker 4: obviously you know, getting all these shows for uh, the
- 2:07Speaker 4: Disney Plus and you know, the animated stuff, and you know,
- 2:11Speaker 4: I was thinking about this and in one of the
- 2:14Speaker 4: things that we've been getting with with all of these
- 2:16Speaker 4: animated things, and of course with the shows like the
- 2:20Speaker 4: Mandalorian and Ahsoka stuff like that, we begin a lot
- 2:24Speaker 4: of things that actually play around with things that we
- 2:30Speaker 4: knew from the EU, right and uh, some of that
- 2:35Speaker 4: stuff that we we used to read about in the EU,
- 2:41Speaker 4: and it feels like they're not afraid to kind of
- 2:44Speaker 4: start mining that and really playing with that. And of course,
- 2:48Speaker 4: you know that kind of began all the way back
- 2:50Speaker 4: in Star Wars Attack of the Clones, when we got
- 2:54Speaker 4: a character that had only been in a comic book
- 2:56Speaker 4: to that point, Ali Sakira, and of course then she
- 2:59Speaker 4: became part of the Clone Wars, and then we started
- 3:03Speaker 4: playing around with Mandalorians, and now of course we're doing
- 3:08Speaker 4: more of that kind of stuff. And so thought of
- 3:10Speaker 4: this great idea, which was, what are the top five
- 3:15Speaker 4: stories from.
- 3:16Speaker 1: The Old EU that we would.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Love to see adapted or used in some way in
- 3:25Speaker 4: Star Wars. And so I'm really excited to see what
- 3:28Speaker 4: you're going to go with for your first pick.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Well, far be it from me to rock the boat
- 3:35Speaker 5: too much, and so I won't. We just talked about
- 3:38Speaker 5: this book fairly recently with regards to when we're recording this.
- 3:44Speaker 5: I would love to see them adapt Darth plagis the
- 3:48Speaker 5: book by James Luceno, because I think that story in
- 3:52Speaker 5: and of itself is super interesting. I think you can
- 3:55Speaker 5: do it with animation, and you'll find a lot of
- 3:58Speaker 5: My answer say I think you can do it with
- 4:00Speaker 5: animation is sort of like a lynchpin phrase that you're
- 4:04Speaker 5: going to hear through this discussion. But I think that
- 4:07Speaker 5: darth Plagus novel is rich and full of ideas. It
- 4:12Speaker 5: will always be something where I think it should have
- 4:17Speaker 5: been the anchoring point for a show like The Acolyte,
- 4:23Speaker 5: where you could construct a story and say, Okay, darth
- 4:26Speaker 5: Plagus the book, an adapted.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Version is our end point.
- 4:31Speaker 5: How do we back up and get to something that
- 4:34Speaker 5: builds to that, so that darth Plagus, that story is
- 4:37Speaker 5: our payoff. Because I think there would be a tremendous
- 4:41Speaker 5: payoff with it, because I think it's complex, it's tricky,
- 4:43Speaker 5: it's slick, all the stuff we said about the book
- 4:47Speaker 5: when we talked about it recently, and so I think
- 4:49Speaker 5: this that is something I would have loved to see
- 4:53Speaker 5: brought to life already. But I think they still have
- 4:55Speaker 5: the space to do it and make it really come
- 4:59Speaker 5: alive and be in no.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean, I couldn't agree with you more.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I think, you know, it's one of those things where
- 5:07Speaker 4: I believe when we were even talking about the book,
- 5:10Speaker 4: we were mentioning that, gosh, this this would be a
- 5:13Speaker 4: great story to dive into. I mean, this is the
- 5:15Speaker 4: type of story that I think could really be, you know,
- 5:21Speaker 4: given something special for either animation, you could obviously do
- 5:28Speaker 4: this show live action as well. I mean, this is
- 5:31Speaker 4: an expansive story. It's the type of thing that I
- 5:34Speaker 4: think lends itself to a more it's weird to say
- 5:39Speaker 4: adult heavy content, but I mean this is this is
- 5:42Speaker 4: you know, more of a kind of like almost Game
- 5:46Speaker 4: of Thrones type of level show with the darkness that
- 5:49Speaker 4: we're talking about with Palpatine and plagu Gifts and all
- 5:52Speaker 4: the machinations that they're doing and everything. So in all
- 5:57Speaker 4: of this, I think it would just be a phenomenal series.
- 6:00Speaker 4: And so no, I love that idea. I'm going to
- 6:04Speaker 4: go with something that we actually of course read all
- 6:07Speaker 4: of which is the Jedi Apprentice series. I think that
- 6:11Speaker 4: this would be an easy thing to be able to
- 6:14Speaker 4: pull off obviously in animation. Of course, you could do
- 6:17Speaker 4: live action as well if you want to do a show,
- 6:19Speaker 4: but I think probably much cheaper in animation, and really
- 6:24Speaker 4: lends itself, of course to having an incredible voice actors
- 6:29Speaker 4: come in and to be able to do the voices
- 6:32Speaker 4: for Qui gon Jin and for Obi wan Kenobi. I
- 6:36Speaker 4: don't know if either of the original actors can really
- 6:41Speaker 4: get their voices to a level that would work at
- 6:44Speaker 4: this point because of their age.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But you don't need that.
- 6:48Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I think it's very clear from
- 6:53Speaker 4: the work that we did in the Clone Wars where
- 6:56Speaker 4: you can find the right spirit to the voice and
- 6:59Speaker 4: that's really all that matters, and then the animation does
- 7:02Speaker 4: the rest of it to sell it. And so that's
- 7:05Speaker 4: a series to me that just feels like a no
- 7:08Speaker 4: brainer and manly because you can tell great Star Wars
- 7:14Speaker 4: stories and at this and and really add to characters
- 7:20Speaker 4: that we love and know, and especially Qui Gon who
- 7:23Speaker 4: we didn't get to spend a ton of time with.
- 7:26Speaker 4: And at the same time, it's it's kind of a
- 7:31Speaker 4: safe era to play in too, like that you're you're
- 7:33Speaker 4: not going to be changing a ton of things, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 4: but really what you're just telling is great adventure stories, uh,
- 7:39Speaker 4: and and really getting explore a time period that we
- 7:42Speaker 4: don't get to spend a lot of time in either,
- 7:44Speaker 4: which is you know, uh, pre Phantom Menace, where you know,
- 7:47Speaker 4: the Republic is different and in something that we're kind
- 7:51Speaker 4: of rooting for in that way. So I just think
- 7:54Speaker 4: this would be fantastic.
- 7:57Speaker 5: I love that out of the gate, we both picked
- 7:59Speaker 5: something that is pre Phantom Menace.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I think you're right.
- 8:03Speaker 5: I have the Jedi Apprentice series on my own list,
- 8:06Speaker 5: which no surprise there right where we would have crossover
- 8:09Speaker 5: like that, And I agree with you animation is a great,
- 8:14Speaker 5: great angle to go with with it. I also think
- 8:17Speaker 5: even if you regardless of whether you do animation or
- 8:20Speaker 5: live action or whatever, however you approach it, if you
- 8:24Speaker 5: approach this the way that they approached say the Young
- 8:28Speaker 5: Indiana Jones chronicles, where you have young characters going through history,
- 8:35Speaker 5: but in this case it just happens to be Star
- 8:38Speaker 5: Wars history. And since Star Wars' root is to be
- 8:41Speaker 5: rooted in real history and echo it, how cool could
- 8:46Speaker 5: it be to take that series, which is so well written,
- 8:50Speaker 5: and then when you adapt it, make it have that
- 8:52Speaker 5: feel of I'm journeying through real history. It just happens
- 8:56Speaker 5: to be in the Star Wars Galaxy. Adapt some of
- 8:59Speaker 5: the stories a little bit like, because I'm putting myself
- 9:01Speaker 5: in the idea of like a pitch meeting, how would
- 9:04Speaker 5: I pitch this to the brass? And I think if
- 9:08Speaker 5: we say, look, Jude Watson and others wrote these great books,
- 9:12Speaker 5: Let's do this. It doesn't get as much push as
- 9:17Speaker 5: saying let's take those great books and let's adapt it
- 9:20Speaker 5: a little bit and make it something even, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 5: that has like some sort of like little twist, like
- 9:25Speaker 5: we add a couple of scenes in here and there
- 9:28Speaker 5: that make it feel like a history lesson, and we
- 9:31Speaker 5: can have it be a history lesson about the way,
- 9:35Speaker 5: because basically we're dealing with as these adventures go, we're
- 9:39Speaker 5: building up to the fall of the Golden Age. We
- 9:42Speaker 5: can plant little things in it to act like a
- 9:46Speaker 5: Clone Wars that leads up to the Phantom Menace as
- 9:49Speaker 5: opposed to Clone Wars. It gets us from Clones to
- 9:53Speaker 5: Revenge of the Sith. So absolutely on board, as you
- 9:57Speaker 5: know with the Jedi Apprentice series. So let's see if
- 10:01Speaker 5: I go a little bit outside of the box here.
- 10:05Speaker 5: But I don't know how outside of the box it
- 10:07Speaker 5: really is, because as I was thinking about this, I realized,
- 10:13Speaker 5: with Tales of the Jedi Tales from the Empire, they've
- 10:18Speaker 5: done this sort of thing, but I think they could
- 10:21Speaker 5: lean even more into it by going to the old
- 10:24Speaker 5: nineteen nineties tales from series tales from Javis Palace Tales
- 10:29Speaker 5: from the most sizely Cantina Tales of the Bounty Hunters.
- 10:34Speaker 5: You've got a lot of great source material right there. Again,
- 10:39Speaker 5: animation could handle this. I trust the animation department with everything,
- 10:46Speaker 5: like the you know, it's not just an you know,
- 10:49Speaker 5: it's not just a cheat, it's the animation department has
- 10:52Speaker 5: never let me down as storytellers. So if we're talking
- 10:56Speaker 5: about adapting something where trust me with the Tales from Series,
- 11:02Speaker 5: I can completely acknowledge the shortcomings of it as it
- 11:06Speaker 5: existed in the nineties.
- 11:07Speaker 2: It would need to have a little bit of love
- 11:09Speaker 2: and care put on it.
- 11:11Speaker 5: I trust the animation department to put the right type
- 11:13Speaker 5: of love and care on it and make it great.
- 11:16Speaker 5: And if anybody is below our age and has not
- 11:21Speaker 5: read this Tales from Series, highly recommend going out and
- 11:25Speaker 5: reading them because it's so much fun. There's like a
- 11:29Speaker 5: zero pressure attitude on the part of the writers. I'm
- 11:34Speaker 5: going to go back. I've made a pledge to myself
- 11:36Speaker 5: that in twenty five I'm going to go back and
- 11:38Speaker 5: I'm going to read through at least one of these books.
- 11:41Speaker 5: Because I had the good fortune of finding an original
- 11:44Speaker 5: pre Disney era Tales from Java's Palace on the shelf
- 11:47Speaker 5: in a Barnes and Noble by an accident one day.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Talk about just wow, absolute stroke of luck.
- 11:54Speaker 5: So I picked that up, and I'm like, you know,
- 11:57Speaker 5: this would make a pretty solid kind of thing. Like
- 12:00Speaker 5: it's already divvied up. You've got a bunch of short stories.
- 12:03Speaker 5: You could turn this into fifteen twenty minute shorts. Boom
- 12:06Speaker 5: boom boom, You've got your your ideas, You've got seasons
- 12:09Speaker 5: right there in a book.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I think I think would work really well.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I I agree with you. I think that
- 12:15Speaker 4: would be really interesting. Like you said, I think it
- 12:17Speaker 4: plays into the fact that they've already been doing the
- 12:20Speaker 4: Tales of series and so being able to mine some
- 12:23Speaker 4: of those things I think would be you know, fantastic
- 12:26Speaker 4: because you know, in some ways, you know, they even
- 12:30Speaker 4: have you know, tales from the New Republic, right, you know,
- 12:34Speaker 4: you could do some of those things where you I mean,
- 12:38Speaker 4: we look, we've already had Luke Skywalker show up in
- 12:41Speaker 4: the Mandalorian, and so you know, why not tell some
- 12:46Speaker 4: of those tales that we would love to see of
- 12:48Speaker 4: the New Republic that you know haven't gotten a chance
- 12:51Speaker 4: to play out yet. And so no, I I one
- 12:54Speaker 4: hundred percent love that idea. So I think you're going
- 13:01Speaker 4: to like this one. But I think that you know,
- 13:05Speaker 4: we've been doing UH. We've been having thrown Uh in
- 13:09Speaker 4: the Ahsoka series. We had him in Rebels UH. And
- 13:13Speaker 4: I think that because they had Timothy's on come in
- 13:17Speaker 4: and write the Throng Ascendency series, I think it would
- 13:21Speaker 4: be phenomenal to get an opportunity to have a series
- 13:26Speaker 4: set Uh in those books basically, to to adapt that
- 13:31Speaker 4: in some way to help us, you know, have a
- 13:34Speaker 4: better understanding of where this character comes from. That's just ascendency,
- 13:38Speaker 4: all of that stuff, and to really play around and
- 13:41Speaker 4: and you know, again it's one of those things could
- 13:45Speaker 4: you do You can do this in live action, you
- 13:46Speaker 4: could do this in animation. I think either one be perfect.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Animation seems like, again it's all of these things. It's
- 13:53Speaker 4: cheaper to do it animation wise. But that's a series
- 13:58Speaker 4: which I had and I thought was so good, and
- 14:03Speaker 4: so I would absolutely love to see that series brought
- 14:09Speaker 4: to life.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Another instance where you just took something off of my list,
- 14:14Speaker 5: we have another crossover point right here. Obviously you didn't
- 14:18Speaker 5: take it from my list. It's just evidence that you.
- 14:20Speaker 2: And I have similar tastes in a lot of ways.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Completely agree with everything that you said, and I think
- 14:25Speaker 5: what's beautiful about it is basically, if you look at Thrawn,
- 14:30Speaker 5: you have Star Wars without the reliance on the Space
- 14:35Speaker 5: Wizards without the reliance, and all the things where you
- 14:37Speaker 5: have a section of the audience that says, I don't
- 14:40Speaker 5: want to just look at that stuff, I want to
- 14:41Speaker 5: look at other things that exist within these possibilities. Well, fantastic.
- 14:48Speaker 5: You've got it right there, and you satisfy the entire
- 14:53Speaker 5: audience with this story, and you do exactly what a
- 14:57Speaker 5: great series should do, just like the Penguin did on
- 15:02Speaker 5: HBO Max, which is, yes, it's in this world from
- 15:06Speaker 5: this movie, but if you haven't watched it, it still
- 15:11Speaker 5: completely works for you. Like the story you tell should
- 15:14Speaker 5: be why you're making the series. Yes, not that you
- 15:17Speaker 5: want to create a new thing. That's you know, it's
- 15:21Speaker 5: the old stuff but done in a Disney way or
- 15:23Speaker 5: anything like that. It's this is just a good story
- 15:27Speaker 5: to tell that's interesting about an interesting character. Yes, it
- 15:31Speaker 5: happens to be in Star Wars. That's the right story
- 15:34Speaker 5: you need to tell. Yes, that's exactly what you need
- 15:36Speaker 5: to do so, all right. So by contrast, my next
- 15:43Speaker 5: pick is actually going to bring us back to a
- 15:44Speaker 5: Force user, a very pivotal Force user in Star Wars history,
- 15:49Speaker 5: though some of the normies don't know who he is,
- 15:53Speaker 5: and that is the Darth Baine trilogy, which I finally finished,
- 16:00Speaker 5: reread the first two, and then I finally read the
- 16:02Speaker 5: third one recently, and I am absolutely flabbergasted that they
- 16:11Speaker 5: have not adapted this for a live action story. Animated
- 16:17Speaker 5: it would work extremely well, obviously, but you've got a
- 16:21Speaker 5: lot of room here, and you have something that is
- 16:24Speaker 5: a Game of Thrones esque story, Like it's really Game
- 16:29Speaker 5: of Thrones esque, And you can go even crazier with
- 16:33Speaker 5: design stuff because there was a comic book series that was,
- 16:38Speaker 5: you know, the first book in the series, and the
- 16:40Speaker 5: comic book of Jedi Versus Sith happened at the same time.
- 16:44Speaker 5: They took inspiration from each other sort of thing, or
- 16:47Speaker 5: I think the book came after. What if I'm wrong
- 16:49Speaker 5: about the timeline, Okay, but it's one of those things
- 16:54Speaker 5: where you can go absolutely nuts with the design because
- 16:58Speaker 5: you're literally thousands of years beforehand. Yeah, and what a
- 17:03Speaker 5: lightsaber looks like can be completely different, and what a
- 17:05Speaker 5: spaceship looks like can be completely different, and what the
- 17:08Speaker 5: rules of hyperspace are and what the rules of the
- 17:11Speaker 5: Republic are, and the fact that you have a series
- 17:15Speaker 5: that ends with a very straightforward example of why the
- 17:20Speaker 5: Republic functions the way it does after the Sith have
- 17:26Speaker 5: their biggest appearance and their biggest formative person appear on
- 17:33Speaker 5: the scene and you find out literally how much it
- 17:36Speaker 5: affected why the Republic functions the way that it does
- 17:40Speaker 5: at all. That's an interesting series. You basically have a
- 17:44Speaker 5: sorcery epic where you can really evoke a Lord of
- 17:47Speaker 5: the Rings or Game of Thrones type of thing, and
- 17:51Speaker 5: you've set up what is coming, and you know why
- 17:55Speaker 5: what you already.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Know is existing.
- 17:59Speaker 5: I think you got just the rich storytelling opportunity right there.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I agree with you on that one.
- 18:05Speaker 4: This is a series that you know, you're trying to
- 18:07Speaker 4: get me to read, and I will read as soon
- 18:10Speaker 4: as I can. And I think, like you said, just
- 18:15Speaker 4: the idea of diving into uh, one of the pivotal
- 18:21Speaker 4: characters in the Star Wars series. You know, we've even
- 18:24Speaker 4: we have seen these characters, you know, uh Force whatever,
- 18:29Speaker 4: who you know, essence or guests or whatever was left
- 18:33Speaker 4: over in the in the Clone Wars and the the
- 18:36Speaker 4: lost missions there, the Yoda Lost Mission.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Uh And So.
- 18:42Speaker 4: I think that this is a great idea though, and
- 18:46Speaker 4: and and and I think, you know, it's well, we've
- 18:50Speaker 4: reviewed The Acolyte and and I think what's so amazing
- 18:53Speaker 4: about this is that there are a lot of of
- 18:56Speaker 4: these type of stories when you think of you know,
- 18:59Speaker 4: you've got the Old Public era, you know, and dealing
- 19:03Speaker 4: with with characters in that era like Revin and things
- 19:06Speaker 4: from uh Knight a Little Republic. And then you know,
- 19:11Speaker 4: like you said, you got this Dark Bay series, which
- 19:14Speaker 4: which is something that again creates everything we know about
- 19:20Speaker 4: the Sith moving forward, and and and what we get
- 19:24Speaker 4: then throughout the prequel era and and and then and
- 19:26Speaker 4: through the original trilogy. And so it's like, this is
- 19:29Speaker 4: stuff that would be incredibly interesting to see and I
- 19:33Speaker 4: would love uh to to be able to to see
- 19:36Speaker 4: that done. So I think that's that's that's really good.
- 19:40Speaker 4: I'm gonna go with uh. So, they had the the
- 19:43Speaker 4: Hans Solo trilogy that had come out, not the Hon
- 19:47Speaker 4: Solo Adventures, but Han Solo Trilogy. Uh and and I
- 19:51Speaker 4: was inspired by this because I read that series. It's
- 19:53Speaker 4: not bad and it's got some interesting stuff in it,
- 19:58Speaker 4: and so to to.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Adapt some of that.
- 20:01Speaker 4: But I was really inspired by the fact that I'm
- 20:04Speaker 4: playing Indiana Jones in The Great Circle right now, and
- 20:08Speaker 4: it feels like I'm in uh an Indiana Jones movie.
- 20:14Speaker 2: UH.
- 20:14Speaker 4: And the the voice actor doing, you know, uh, Indiana
- 20:18Speaker 4: Jones feels just like Harrison Ford uh. And so to
- 20:22Speaker 4: be able to do this in some way and and again,
- 20:27Speaker 4: you know, I think you could you could do an animation,
- 20:30Speaker 4: or you could just decide, hey, we're gonna we're gonna
- 20:33Speaker 4: take some of these type of stories and and and
- 20:35Speaker 4: add with what we got from Solo and and and tell.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Some more with this character.
- 20:40Speaker 4: But again, I was just I was really struck by
- 20:43Speaker 4: how how much fun it was to be playing uh,
- 20:47Speaker 4: basically a new Indian Jones movie.
- 20:49Speaker 3: UH.
- 20:49Speaker 4: And I was like, man, I would love to see
- 20:52Speaker 4: more of these stories for Han solo UH and more
- 20:57Speaker 4: of that story and and really what it gives us
- 20:59Speaker 4: an opportunity to do then is just follow up Solo.
- 21:03Speaker 4: And it makes sense too because when I'm thinking about
- 21:05Speaker 4: the fact that we have a show right now called
- 21:08Speaker 4: Skeleton Crew, where we're dealing with the pirate element. The
- 21:13Speaker 4: underworld is just rife to be played with, and we
- 21:17Speaker 4: just don't play with it enough in Star Wars. You know,
- 21:19Speaker 4: I don't know why we're afraid with it. So yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 4: I think that would be great.
- 21:25Speaker 5: So you're talking about the AC Crispin series came out, Yes, okay, yeah,
- 21:32Speaker 5: I agree. I remember reading the AC Christmin series and
- 21:35Speaker 5: really liking it.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got to remembering stuff in it.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Actually, I remember I was reading the first book on
- 21:41Speaker 5: a bus ride home from a job interview for a
- 21:44Speaker 5: job I did get, actually, and I remember riding the
- 21:48Speaker 5: bus home and reading it. Like, it's weird how you
- 21:51Speaker 5: have those memories, right, But yeah, I remember really liking
- 21:54Speaker 5: it and thinking it was it was pretty darn clever.
- 21:56Speaker 5: And to your point, we're all hungering for different aspects
- 21:59Speaker 5: of the Star Wars galaxy, and you know, if you
- 22:04Speaker 5: even go back to you know just what the Mandalorian
- 22:08Speaker 5: is doing. But then to your point about Skeleton Crew,
- 22:11Speaker 5: audiences are responding to this opportunity to explore the CD
- 22:16Speaker 5: side of Star Wars. This it's sort of a you know,
- 22:21Speaker 5: if you look at the Jedi stories, as top down.
- 22:25Speaker 5: These organized crime slash underworld stories are looking at it
- 22:31Speaker 5: from the bottom up, and so you by looking at
- 22:34Speaker 5: the two extremes, you know, of the ultimate good guys
- 22:38Speaker 5: over here and their struggles through time, and then some
- 22:42Speaker 5: of the ultimate bad guys, the ones who are the
- 22:45Speaker 5: really bad ones who don't get the press.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:48Speaker 5: You know, it's just like the real world where you're like, oh,
- 22:51Speaker 5: that person's you know, that's a Darth Vader, that's an emperor,
- 22:56Speaker 5: that's an inquisitor. Those are clearly bad guys. And then
- 23:01Speaker 5: you turn around and you go, oh, but this person's
- 23:03Speaker 5: just as bad. It's just there in the shadows, and nobody.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Talks about them.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Yeah, and even even to your point, like with that,
- 23:12Speaker 5: and you explore that world the opportunity again, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 5: like I was saying, with like the the the Darth
- 23:19Speaker 5: Baane trilogy, setting these things up, you do so much
- 23:22Speaker 5: world building, and every so often you could have one
- 23:26Speaker 5: of those bad guys bubble up and create a situation
- 23:30Speaker 5: where how does the empire deal with that? You know,
- 23:34Speaker 5: because it's the time period of Solo right coming up
- 23:37Speaker 5: before a New Hope, you have a situation where you
- 23:43Speaker 5: really flesh out the world because obviously the empire allows
- 23:47Speaker 5: the criminal element to exist for a reason, but every
- 23:51Speaker 5: so often the Empire would have to do something to
- 23:56Speaker 5: make the average person feel like the Empire is the lesser.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Of the choices of evil choices.
- 24:04Speaker 5: And maybe, just like in the real world, somebody would say, yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 5: I get there are flaws, but at least, to borrow
- 24:13Speaker 5: the old phrase, the old saw that's been out there
- 24:16Speaker 5: for a long time, at least they make the trains
- 24:18Speaker 5: run on time, you know that sort of thing where, yeah,
- 24:21Speaker 5: I don't like what they do most of the time,
- 24:24Speaker 5: but at least they got that guy. At least they
- 24:27Speaker 5: took down that kingpin. They're obviously still good aspects of
- 24:32Speaker 5: that evil machine that's out there. And then one day
- 24:36Speaker 5: you have a death Star show up at your front
- 24:38Speaker 5: porch and oh yeah, it turns out they were the
- 24:41Speaker 5: more evil choice.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I agree, What else would you want to see?
- 24:45Speaker 5: I mean, honestly, I'd put my list at five. And
- 24:49Speaker 5: so now I feel a little bit like, oh, well,
- 24:51Speaker 5: we had some crossover, and so it's like, you know,
- 24:55Speaker 5: a couple of mine have already been been snatched up,
- 24:59Speaker 5: as it were, in this discussion, which is fun it's
- 25:02Speaker 5: a wonderful thing when that happens. But you know, there
- 25:05Speaker 5: is actually an EU story that I think it's pre
- 25:09Speaker 5: Disney or it's right before the Disney purchase, and it
- 25:12Speaker 5: gets into dangerous territory, specifically because there are certain Star
- 25:17Speaker 5: Wars stories that have attempted to go into this area
- 25:20Speaker 5: about the sort of hero deconstruction of Luke and you know,
- 25:24Speaker 5: what's reality versus myth, And I think that since there
- 25:28Speaker 5: can also be a flavor for that, I would like
- 25:31Speaker 5: to see some sort of adaptation of the book Luke
- 25:34Speaker 5: Skywalker in the Shadows of mindor oh yeah, yeah, because
- 25:38Speaker 5: that was a really poignant thing where the whole framing
- 25:42Speaker 5: device is Luke talking to somebody and saying, so, what
- 25:47Speaker 5: part of that do you think was real? Right, and
- 25:50Speaker 5: saying the spirit of what they were talking about was accurate,
- 25:54Speaker 5: but it got a little embellished along the way, and
- 25:58Speaker 5: it's sort of like a man who shot Liberty Valance
- 26:00Speaker 5: sort of vibe this is the West.
- 26:02Speaker 2: We print the legend.
- 26:04Speaker 5: And you you walked away from the book. I have
- 26:07Speaker 5: to go back and reread it, but I remember really
- 26:09Speaker 5: enjoying it because that was the first time I really
- 26:12Speaker 5: remembered an EU book dealing with the idea that, yes,
- 26:17Speaker 5: Luke was the great Jedi, Luke was a true hero,
- 26:22Speaker 5: Luke deserved the status of legend, but people still ran
- 26:27Speaker 5: away with it afterward, and Luke was stuck in a
- 26:33Speaker 5: place where.
- 26:33Speaker 2: He didn't know.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Well it's not didn't know, but it's more the sense
- 26:40Speaker 5: of at what point do you stop fighting the legend makers?
- 26:44Speaker 5: Because you know that what's being built up is still
- 26:47Speaker 5: to the greater good and if it gets at it
- 26:51Speaker 5: gets a little blown out of proportion, that's just the.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Price of it.
- 26:56Speaker 5: And I, you know, that's how I remember the point
- 26:59Speaker 5: of the book being. And I think that could be
- 27:01Speaker 5: a really interesting series.
- 27:03Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's funny that you were thinking of that,
- 27:05Speaker 4: because I was. I was thinking about the idea of
- 27:08Speaker 4: you know, there's there are places I feel like that
- 27:12Speaker 4: there are their books and their stories you know about
- 27:16Speaker 4: that that time period of in the rebellion or even
- 27:22Speaker 4: right after the rebellion, right, you know, we have so
- 27:25Speaker 4: many stories, you know, whether it's you know, the X
- 27:28Speaker 4: Wing series or the Jedi Academy series, or you know,
- 27:32Speaker 4: there's so many series where it's like you could take
- 27:34Speaker 4: bits and pieces of those and create really interesting stories
- 27:37Speaker 4: for these characters and really get a chance to play
- 27:39Speaker 4: with them. And so no, I think that that would
- 27:42Speaker 4: be really cool. And in some ways, you know, I
- 27:44Speaker 4: think that's the kind of thing where you know, you
- 27:48Speaker 4: can do uh the animated feature for Disney Plus, right,
- 27:54Speaker 4: that allows you to do a story like that, And
- 27:59Speaker 4: so I'm probably gonna it's it's somewhat cheating.
- 28:02Speaker 1: But my my last one I was thinking of was
- 28:06Speaker 1: you know.
- 28:08Speaker 4: The Jedi Quest series, you know, which is Obi Wan
- 28:11Speaker 4: Kenobi training Anakin Skywalker.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Uh you know, oh wow, I remember I never read it,
- 28:16Speaker 5: but yeah, I know the series you're talking about.
- 28:18Speaker 4: And I think that the beauty of that series is uh,
- 28:24Speaker 4: you know that's something.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 28:26Speaker 4: There was a audio book that just came out on Audible,
- 28:30Speaker 4: like an audio drama that involves these two characters in
- 28:34Speaker 4: that time period, and it was really fun and interesting,
- 28:37Speaker 4: uh to be able to dig into them and you
- 28:40Speaker 4: know the frustrations uh and everything and and and whatnot.
- 28:45Speaker 4: And so.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I think, uh, it would.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Be you know, great to be able to to see
- 28:53Speaker 4: you know, these characters, uh, and what it was like,
- 28:57Speaker 4: uh for be when Kenobi had trained a young Anakin
- 29:02Speaker 4: and what that relationship was like and and and that's
- 29:05Speaker 4: one of those places where when you know, when I
- 29:07Speaker 4: think of the ways in which you know, you could
- 29:09Speaker 4: truly add to a character h and actually add to
- 29:13Speaker 4: the relationship between those two characters in that way, I
- 29:18Speaker 4: think it would be awesome, you know, to be able
- 29:21Speaker 4: to dig into, you know, one of the most important
- 29:25Speaker 4: relationships of the Star Wars series. Now, I will say too,
- 29:30Speaker 4: this is one where you truly need a writer that
- 29:35Speaker 4: that understands these characters and really gets them and and everything.
- 29:39Speaker 4: So but it's one that I would be really interested
- 29:44Speaker 4: to see.
- 29:45Speaker 2: So I think that's great.
- 29:48Speaker 5: Like I said, I didn't read them, but I'd love
- 29:51Speaker 5: to see them. I'll throw one other wild card that
- 29:54Speaker 5: I thought of while you were talking, because you talk about, like,
- 29:57Speaker 5: you know, exploring relationships and those sorts of things. One
- 30:01Speaker 5: that I have to go back and reread and maybe
- 30:03Speaker 5: in twenty twenty five you and I can make a
- 30:05Speaker 5: pack to reread this series and talk about a little
- 30:08Speaker 5: bit more. But I would be super fascinating. Everybody talked
- 30:11Speaker 5: about how they wanted a Lando movie or Orlando show.
- 30:14Speaker 5: That's another thing that just sort of like everybody talked
- 30:16Speaker 5: about Oh, everybody was so excited about it.
- 30:17Speaker 2: And then it went away again.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I remember the eighty series. It was the Lando Calrissian
- 30:23Speaker 5: adventures you had, like theand Parp of Sharu and stuff
- 30:26Speaker 5: like that. I have no idea whether it's they.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Do reference in Soulus. They do, you know, they reference
- 30:33Speaker 4: some of those stories. So wouldn't it be fun to
- 30:36Speaker 4: go back and give Lando some love here? And I
- 30:38Speaker 4: mean again, I've heard there you might want to be
- 30:42Speaker 4: on some sort of substance when you're reading those stories.
- 30:46Speaker 5: But all the more reason I need to go back
- 30:49Speaker 5: and read them because everybody told me that I had
- 30:51Speaker 5: to be on some sort of substance to enjoy Aquatine
- 30:54Speaker 5: Hunger Force, But I can tell you I never was.
- 30:57Speaker 5: An Aquatin Hunger Force remains one of my favorite shows
- 30:59Speaker 5: of all time. So well, they maybe my brain just
- 31:02Speaker 5: produces its own chemicals and I'm hardwired too, well probable
- 31:08Speaker 5: I'm hardwired to enjoy these cowroys and stories.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I think again, that would be really fun.
- 31:14Speaker 4: And partly, like you just kind of mentioned, I don't
- 31:18Speaker 4: know if we're actually ever really going to get that
- 31:20Speaker 4: Lando series, and which is you know, kind of sad
- 31:24Speaker 4: because I think everybody was looking forward to it. You know,
- 31:30Speaker 4: one of the things that came out of Solo that
- 31:32Speaker 4: was was I would say universally praised, really was.
- 31:38Speaker 2: His portrayal.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Right, Like people loved.
- 31:40Speaker 4: Him as Lando, regardless of whether or not they actually
- 31:43Speaker 4: loved the movie, even though they should have loved the movie.
- 31:46Speaker 1: That that's a different story.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Yes, and so yes, I would love to see something
- 31:54Speaker 4: like that and utilize some of that that stuff. And again,
- 31:58Speaker 4: the beauty of this too is like, you know, we're
- 32:00Speaker 4: not saying you have to do a complete, you know,
- 32:03Speaker 4: one for one adaptation, but you could do bits and
- 32:06Speaker 4: pieces of these things and kind of pull them in
- 32:08Speaker 4: and it's like people that know they know, and the
- 32:11Speaker 4: people that don't it's fine too. It's not about having
- 32:15Speaker 4: to do it, you know, again, like a straight one
- 32:20Speaker 4: for one. And so I would love to be able
- 32:25Speaker 4: to see something like that.
- 32:27Speaker 5: I think we've tossed some great ideas out there, and
- 32:30Speaker 5: as always, invite the listeners out there to go ahead
- 32:34Speaker 5: and offer us suggestions. Maybe there's a story we've overlooked.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Anybody who recommends any of the books that I didn't
- 32:42Speaker 5: like from the EU, please postmark what you send in
- 32:46Speaker 5: so that I can harass you appropriately, because that's sort
- 32:49Speaker 5: of what I'm known for.
- 32:50Speaker 2: But it's in all seriousness.
- 32:52Speaker 5: We would love it if you went too the nerd
- 32:53Speaker 5: Party dot Com slash contact and reached out to us
- 32:56Speaker 5: and let us know what you think would be a
- 32:57Speaker 5: great EU story to adapt. Let's all be honest, we're
- 33:02Speaker 5: never going to get Air to the Empire. They've moved
- 33:05Speaker 5: along too far with a bunch of different things. We're
- 33:08Speaker 5: never going to get a true We're not going to
- 33:10Speaker 5: get Druis Sabbath. We're not gonna get you know, Dark
- 33:15Speaker 5: Force Rising or anything like that. But we'll you know,
- 33:18Speaker 5: we're getting little sprinkles of that. But what do you
- 33:21Speaker 5: think is honestly something they could come back and do.
- 33:23Speaker 5: We've already gotten a little bit of Dark Empire thrown
- 33:25Speaker 5: in there technically with Rise of Skywalker, but what other
- 33:29Speaker 5: stories out.
- 33:29Speaker 2: There would work.
- 33:32Speaker 5: Let us know if the Nerd Party dot Com slash Contact,
- 33:34Speaker 5: or like Matt was saying at the beginning over on
- 33:37Speaker 5: the socials at the Jedi Masters on X, would be
- 33:40Speaker 5: a great way to reach us as well. But Matt,
- 33:42Speaker 5: if people want to reach you out there in the
- 33:45Speaker 5: wild space, of the Internet. Where can they find you?
- 33:48Speaker 4: Yeah, great place is all over social media. Just search
- 33:52Speaker 4: for Matt Rushing Zoe too, and so if I'm on
- 33:54Speaker 4: that platform, you'll find me there. Of course, you can
- 33:56Speaker 4: find me all over the Nerd Party network with another
- 34:00Speaker 4: show called owl Posts, completed show I did with Greated Kaufman.
- 34:04Speaker 4: We talked about every single chapter of the Harry Potter series,
- 34:07Speaker 4: one chapter at time. So I hope you'll also join
- 34:09Speaker 4: us there, and then you'll you'll find me doing a
- 34:14Speaker 4: little show, just a tiny show, and it is called
- 34:20Speaker 4: the six or two Club, and you'll find that over
- 34:22Speaker 4: on the TFM network, talking about all of those franchises
- 34:26Speaker 4: that we love, not just one. John and I frequently
- 34:30Speaker 4: do things together over there, especially since we cross over
- 34:33Speaker 4: with aggressive negotiations quite a bit when it comes to
- 34:35Speaker 4: Star Wars, So check that out and you'll find me
- 34:38Speaker 4: doing a lot of Star Trek talk over there. But John,
- 34:40Speaker 4: if people wanted to catch up with you and just
- 34:44Speaker 4: you know, bend your ear about their favorite EU book
- 34:46Speaker 4: that maybe you haven't read that, they're like, oh, you
- 34:49Speaker 4: haven't read that, and you don't know if it should
- 34:52Speaker 4: be adapted because you haven't read it. Where should they find.
- 34:55Speaker 5: You well, as we all know that I am slightly
- 34:58Speaker 5: allergic to reading, so it's a lot to ask. But
- 35:01Speaker 5: if it has a Star Wars label on it, I'll
- 35:04Speaker 5: read it. I'll give it a shot. In most cases,
- 35:07Speaker 5: you can find me as Kessel Junkie out there on
- 35:10Speaker 5: the Internet. You can find me here on the network
- 35:12Speaker 5: co hosting a show called house Lights with Tristan Riddell
- 35:16Speaker 5: and Darren Moser, and we cover the works of directors.
- 35:19Speaker 5: But Matt, I think it's time for us to go
- 35:21Speaker 5: back and fulfill our community service at the Jedi Temple
- 35:25Speaker 5: by dusting the shelves of the archives of the Jedi Order.
- 35:29Speaker 5: So I think it's time to close these negotiations John negotiations.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
