- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to the Overclocked Remix Podcast, the best source for OCR news and updates that you can listen to while blowing up a mocket reactor.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: This is episode number seven, which is the same as the number of Chaos Emeralds in every Sonic game after the first.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And also star-shaped objects in every Mario RPG.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I think seven is just a good on-screen number of things.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: You can arrange them as vertices of a hexagon and then stick the coolest looking one right in the middle.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Anyway, my name is Zack, and I think the biggest problem with Raisin Brand is that it doesn't have enough raisins.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I always add more.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Short month this month with only six new track releases.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: That's okay though.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: The musicians need some time to recover after the last couple of months of music onslaught.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And it gives us a little breathing room to do a pretty cool segment.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Well, I think it's a pretty cool segment.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Our intro music this month was Treason by Kid Cabbage from the Final Fantasy IV album Echoes of Betrayal Light of Redemption.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Alright, let's talk some news.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: First up, I saw Shovel Knight live in New York, which, no lie, was absolutely one of the best concerts I have ever been to in my entire life.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: It was sublime.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Jake Kaufman's original score was expertly arranged by Charlie Rosen of the 8-bit Big Band, and performed perfectly by Charlie and his band.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: And as Charlie pointed out on stage, human hands were never meant to actually play that music, so it was a challenge.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, there were only two performances, New York City and LA, hoping they go on a full tour sometime in the coming years because more people deserve to see that show.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: More recently, I saw the Witcher 3 Anniversary concert, and I'm less excited about that.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I'll be honest, don't get me wrong, the concert itself was great, but I'm just not a big a fan of Witcher 3 as I am Shovel Knight.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: The music is a little less classic VGM and more filmic.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Great stuff, just not really my cup of tea.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: If it is your cup of tea though, then good news! This is a huge concert series with like a billion stops over the next few months, so you have time to grab tickets to a one near you.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: I know for a fact the Atlanta show is in October.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Something fun to do in October, other than Netherworld.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: That one is for the Atlanta listeners.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Darksword did some forum hacking and has given us all a new feature called 8 tracks, like the obsolete precursor to cassette tapes.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: You can create a playlist of exactly eight OC remix tracks, and then share it around.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: With summer on the way, and well underway in some places, people on the OC Remix Discord have been having fun sharing water and tropical themed eight tracks.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Our news music this month was The Darkest World by Demonds from The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Let's dig into some new music starting with Daylight from Metal Gear Solid by Alex Robinson.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Rock instrumentation with orchestral backing.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: This is just some classic metal treadmill.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Alex mentions he went out of his way to vary this up because previous submissions have been rejected for sticking too close to the original.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Great example of how the judging process really brings out the best in people.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Alex is also a newcomer and has committed that classic newcomer's mistake of setting the bar too high.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Next up, we've got Timaeus 222 with At the Drop of a Coin Flip from Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: I hope you're ready to get emotional.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: This next track is Your Warmth by Sebastian Scaff from Mother Three.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: The theme of love works so well as a solo piano piece that I can't help but wonder if this is how it was composed.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: This track is just full of a mother's warmth.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: To think I had been apprehensive about the OST because I was just not a big fan of Shogo Sakai, but I can't imagine the soundtrack coming from anyone else.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: If you have a mother in your life, go give her a hug.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: And now for something completely different.
- 16:13SPEAKER_07: From Doom by Mike Norvack, Demonic Monarchia, This is Mike's second Doom track since I started the pod.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Now that's consistency.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: This is something of a dark, aggressive electronica take on the single most recognizable Doom track, at Doomsgate, the E1M1 track.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Starts out groovy and pretty straightforward and then sort of goes and does its own thing for a while, before bringing the theme back in kind of a creepy way.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: I should mention that this track is also from Mike's Doom Tribute album, Redoomed.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: I hear you like mazes with monsters in them.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Well, we've got more of that up next.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Mercurial Mechanisms from Golden Sun by Lucas Guimares and Elidar.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: Until he passed in my late teens, twice a year my family would pile into my mom's minivan and make the eight-hour drive to visit my grandfather.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: I liked saving up my money and buying some Game Boy game before the trip, and the single best purchase I made for this purpose was Golden Sun.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Nothing like a chunky JRPG to make the miles fly by.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: But as for the mix itself, good stuff.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: A dark electronic attack on the Mercury Lighthouse theme.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: The original track shines through nicely, and the production really captures that water dungeon feel.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: This is a reworked track from the Golden Sun album A World Reignited.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Time for more Golden Sun, another track from the arranged album Ginstrumentals.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: It's that night forty years ago by Tibinov.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: This is first of all a remix of the track, That Night Three Years Ago, but it has a lot of 80s music feel.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: Actually, I put it a little older.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Well, it sort of has the groove of Tears for Fears everybody wants to rule the world at times.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: The rest of it sounds like something off of Pink Floyd's Animals, which came out in 1977, almost 50 years ago.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: A little crocky, a little psychedelic, full of Yamaha's goodness, and this is right in my wheelhouse.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: May saw the conclusion of Game Set Mash Volume 3, Streets of Rage vs.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Etrion Odyssey.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Two original OSTs composed by Yuzo Koshiro from games that couldn't be more different.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: The quintessential 90s arcade-style beat-em-up vs.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: mid-2000s dungeon-crawling turn-based RPG.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: And the two soundtracks could also not be more different.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I guess they're both Yamaha FM synth, but even then, it's the Sega Genesis YM2612 helped along by a Texas Instruments PSG for master system compatibility, versus the PC98's YM2608 with its internal AY38910 PSG.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: I can talk about chips all day, but maybe let's not.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: I'll save that for a segment in the future.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: Since we do have a surplus of time this month, though, let's listen to some of the tracks from this most recent game set MASH.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Let's start off by taking a look at the competitors.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: In the Streets of Rage Corner, we have Adrian Gravity Gauntlet, H36T, Mobius, Herodles Josh, Pixel Seth, Ronald Poe, Seven Eyes, and Violet.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: In the Adrian Odyssey Corner, we have JSA Blixer, DJ Makro, Mo Morgan, Zalef, Salicana, Colorado Weeks, Dilek, Middle Decision, Lady 23, and Team of Helian.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: Starting us off with Team Street.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: That was the city is a warm dead waste from Street One versus Adrian 1.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Up next we've got Duel of the Shifting Sands from Team Adrian.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: This is also Street One versus Etrian Odyssey one.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: It's got the right character of crotch.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Up next, Team Streets is back with Seven Fists Under the Sakura Tree.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: This one is Streets 2 and Etrian 2.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: Metal, I think, suits the whole score pretty well though.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: And then we get that okay, this is Streets of Rage now, transition in the middle.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: I think that hit it sample is used in Ristar.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: We're gonna bounce back to Team Etrian for another sequel showdown, Streets 2 vs.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Etrian 2 with Sakura and Cot and I.
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: Fittingly, this one sounds like it's channeling Shinobi 3, another Yuzo Koshiro score in addition to Streets and Etrian.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: It's got some appearances from Japanese folk instruments.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: I'd name them if I could identify them.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: In addition to Electronica elements and some chippy goodness.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: Love the vocals that come in halfway through.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: What I say they don't know, but they're nice.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: Up next is only trust your mix.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: Techniques will never help you from Team Street, mashing up the third game in each series.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: Sounds a lot like guilty gear music, honestly.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: You could drop this track into GGXX Accent Core Plus, and no one would notice.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: Have I ever told you that you, the listeners, make the sunshine in my heart?
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm about to, because that's the title of the next track.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: You make the sunshine in my heart.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: From the third entry of each game by Teametria.
- 54:48SPEAKER_05: You know that baby I gonna love you.
- 54:52SPEAKER_05: Cause when I'm with you, the skies are so blue.
- 54:55SPEAKER_05: Don't you know that you make the sun shine in my heart?
- 55:02SPEAKER_05: So come on, baby, and let me show you all of the things I wanna tell you.
- 55:09SPEAKER_05: Like the sea and the shore.
- 55:11SPEAKER_05: I know we must never be a cloud.
- 55:17SPEAKER_05: Rainbows and sunshine chase the clouds away.
- 55:24SPEAKER_05: Wherever you go, then is where I'll stay.
- 55:31SPEAKER_05: Oh, can't you see?
- 55:33SPEAKER_05: Can't you see?
- 55:35unknown: Can't you see?
- 55:36unknown: Can't you see?
- 55:38unknown: Can't you see?
- 55:40SPEAKER_05: Can't you see?
- 55:42SPEAKER_05: Can't you see?
- 55:43SPEAKER_05: Can't you see that right now?
- 55:47SPEAKER_05: And I want you to know I don't play games.
- 55:54SPEAKER_05: If you make me yours, I love your love will burst into flames.
- 56:01SPEAKER_05: You know that, baby, I gotta love you.
- 56:04SPEAKER_05: Cause we don't we do disguise as a blue.
- 56:08SPEAKER_05: Don't you know that you make the sun shine in my heart?
- 56:12SPEAKER_05: Shine.
- 56:15SPEAKER_05: So come on, baby, and let me show you all of the things I wanna do.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: Like a poet and words, I know we must never be a ball.
- 56:30SPEAKER_05: Every day I will call you.
- 56:37SPEAKER_05: I hope you love me to see I do Oh the sunset compared to the show that I see in your eyes when you give me your smiles.
- 57:26SPEAKER_05: Now that we are here, standing face to face, baby will face you the love that we share, no one else could else could ever replace.
- 57:39SPEAKER_05: You know that baby, I gotta love you.
- 57:43SPEAKER_05: Cause when we do the skies are so blue, don't you know that you make the sun shine in my heart?
- 57:53SPEAKER_05: So come on, baby, and let me show you all of the things I wanna do for you.
- 58:00SPEAKER_05: Like the birds and the sky, I know we must never be apart.
- 58:07SPEAKER_05: So come on, baby, and let me show you all of the things I wanna do for you.
- 58:15SPEAKER_05: Like the birds and the sky, I know we must never be apart.
- 58:22SPEAKER_05: So come on, baby, and let me show you all of the things I wanna do by you.
- 58:29SPEAKER_05: Like the birds and the sky, I know we must never be apart.
- 58:36SPEAKER_05: So come on, baby, and let me show you all of the things I wanna tell you.
- 58:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, this is sappy, like in the best possible way.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: The track really nails that sappy old music from the eighties vibe, but it has all these little production touches that elevated.
- 58:55SPEAKER_00: This is a fun one.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: I didn't lurk in the discussions for this round, so I don't know if this was coordinated or not.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: Maybe I've just uncovered a scandal.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: In any case, while the previous track was more elevator music slash hold music, this is closer to RB, but not exactly.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: It occurred to me while writing this that Streets of Rage games literally have elevator music.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: Elevator fights are a series staple.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: Up next, team entry and odyssey gives us marching forward from streets one versus entry and three.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_00: Talk about completely different.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: This is an orchestral piece mostly covering one of the more recognizable themes from EM3, mixing up the instrumentation.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, the original is FM5, obviously, but it has sort of an implied instrumentation.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_00: And this has more of a graphic.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_00: Up next, King Streets is bringing us the Streets of Rapture.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: From Streets 2 versus Etryan 1.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_00: Great electronic attract, with great disc scratchy goodness and crunchy bass.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_00: Very dark and brooding, and there's some great wailing guitar for texture.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_00: I love the textural shift towards the end to a more orchestral sound out.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_00: Next we have Painting Day by Team Etrian from Street Two versus Etrian One.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_05: Green for the grass.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_02: I like to paint it.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: We've got some quadruple bass pedal and both chugging and wailing guitar, and even some growls.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_00: And then halfway we get some absolutely delightful proggy shifts.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_00: Man, I love prog metal.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_00: Bad news the heroes are done for.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_00: This is Curtain Call for Heroes by Team Streets from Streets Three versus Etrian Two.
- 1:23:00SPEAKER_00: This one, for example, goes from groovy to proggy, which you know I love.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_00: Coming up on the last set of six tracks now, leading us off as Team Streets without the heart of Idrisel from Streets 1 versus Etrian Two.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_06: Stare back at me.
- 1:29:15SPEAKER_00: You're a rock.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_00: I love this.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_00: I don't have much to say.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_00: This is just a great rock song with some prog elements.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_00: You guys should know by now that that's my genre.
- 1:29:24SPEAKER_00: Let's check in on Team Etrian.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_00: Looks like their Streets 1 vs.
- 1:29:27SPEAKER_00: Etrian 2 track is that false reflection.
- 1:29:59SPEAKER_04: I feel I need a new direction.
- 1:30:02SPEAKER_04: Cause I hate the false reflection.
- 1:30:04SPEAKER_04: And I gotta let go.
- 1:30:07SPEAKER_04: Can get the words out of my mouth.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_04: Never feeling like I need up.
- 1:30:12SPEAKER_04: Looking in the mirror so fast.
- 1:30:20SPEAKER_01: In my dreams, I know that it's all worth it.
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_01: Only there is where I am free.
- 1:30:30SPEAKER_01: In my dreams, I have clarity.
- 1:30:34SPEAKER_01: Why can't this be my reality?
- 1:30:38SPEAKER_04: Apprehension that gives me all that attention.
- 1:30:42SPEAKER_04: It's like I'm in the wrong dimension, and I gotta let go.
- 1:31:01SPEAKER_01: In my dreams, I'm fully whole and perfect.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_01: In my dreams, I'm who I want to be.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, in my dreams, I know that it's all worth it.
- 1:31:16SPEAKER_01: I think there is where I am free.
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_01: In my dreams there's no one to answer to.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, in my dreams there's so much I can tell you.
- 1:31:38SPEAKER_01: I can't miss me.
- 1:32:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know how to describe this track.
- 1:32:54SPEAKER_00: I mean it's good, so that's a description, but I don't know what genre to call this.
- 1:32:58SPEAKER_00: There's acoustic elements, electronic elements, some spoken words, some singing, some of that German in-between spread song, Libadiesong.
- 1:33:10SPEAKER_00: From German to Spanish, Team Streets is coming at us with Ciga de Retro e Abajo, which Kagi Translate tells me means continue straight, then head downstairs.
- 1:33:21SPEAKER_00: Great title that works for both Streets 2 and entry in three.
- 1:37:46SPEAKER_00: Somewhat of a minimalistic groove that I think is using some original game samples.
- 1:37:51SPEAKER_00: Up next is Cyclopian Straight Flush, which I guess has to be hearts or spades if it includes a one-eyed jack.
- 1:37:59SPEAKER_00: That's from Streets 2 versus Etrian 3 by Team Etrian.
- 1:42:57SPEAKER_00: Those words are both adjectives.
- 1:42:59SPEAKER_00: Luckily, those adjectives also apply to this song.
- 1:43:02SPEAKER_00: Noodle fans rejoice, and there's also some great instrumental noodling in here, too.
- 1:43:07SPEAKER_00: I should also mention that in addition to Streets of Rage and Etrian, this song also features the music of Balatro.
- 1:43:14SPEAKER_00: Great pull, and now you get the card thing.
- 1:43:18SPEAKER_00: Up next, our last team street song, Etrian Thaws, Shin Outro, from Street Three versus Etrian One.
- 1:47:59SPEAKER_00: I feel more than any of the other tracks we've heard today, this one really captures the feel of some of the Etrian Odyssey dungeon music.
- 1:48:07SPEAKER_00: Last up, Team Etrian brings us Shico from Streets 3 vs.
- 1:48:11SPEAKER_00: Etrian 1.
- 1:48:12SPEAKER_00: Luckily, they provided the kanji this time.
- 1:48:15SPEAKER_00: Well, sort of?
- 1:48:16SPEAKER_00: Kagi Translate says that the previous kanji are pronounced Shito, but who are you gonna believe?
- 1:50:00SPEAKER_00: Kind of has end of episode credits vibes, at least at the start.
- 1:50:04SPEAKER_00: I absolutely adore the chippiness of this and that little jingle at the end.
- 1:50:38SPEAKER_00: As always, our outro music is See You Next Time, Water, by Darksword from Final Fantasy V.
- 1:50:45SPEAKER_00: Special thanks to Argyll for the GameSet MASH segment intro sound clip.

- 1:51:59SPEAKER_00: Alrighty, folks, have a good month, and I'll see you next time.
