Latest / Foul Territory / Ken Rosenthal’s pressing q’s that will define the trade deadline
Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: We welcome in Ken Rosenthal for the inside scoop. Ken,
- 0:09Speaker 1: let's get right to it. Do you think Francisco Lindor
- 0:11Speaker 1: will be traded?
- 0:14Speaker 2: No, but the fact that they're even willing to talk
- 0:17Speaker 2: about it is interesting and it's newsworthy.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:20Speaker 2: The reason why I don't think he will be traded
- 0:22Speaker 2: is because there are simply too many factors at work
- 0:25Speaker 2: against it. The contract he's owed one hundred and sixty
- 0:28Speaker 2: million or more than that, even through twenty thirty one.
- 0:32Speaker 2: He has a complete no trade clause, so he would
- 0:35Speaker 2: effectively control the process. Actually, not a no trade clause.
- 0:38Speaker 2: He got that right last year when he became a
- 0:40Speaker 2: ten to five player. Declining performance that's part of this too.
- 0:45Speaker 2: He is turning thirty three in November. He has not
- 0:48Speaker 2: played well. Now, there are reasons for that, and we
- 0:50Speaker 2: should mention them. Didn't have a spring training due to
- 0:53Speaker 2: the hamdmad bone injury, then came back injured his calf.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Tough injury to come back from for a shortstop, so
- 1:00Speaker 2: it is quite possible.
- 1:02Speaker 3: In effect, he's in.
- 1:02Speaker 2: The middle of his spring training here, and that's why
- 1:05Speaker 2: we're seeing him not play the way we normally expect.
- 1:08Speaker 2: As Eric just said, he is a really good player.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I don't think he's done or anything like that. There
- 1:14Speaker 2: have been some things going against him. But as far
- 1:17Speaker 2: as trading him, of course, the Mets are going to listen.
- 1:20Speaker 2: They're going to listen to every player on their roster,
- 1:22Speaker 2: but Soto and some of the young guys. It's totally
- 1:25Speaker 2: expected considering where they are in the standings. But how
- 1:29Speaker 2: are they going to get the value that they want
- 1:31Speaker 2: for him in a down year with the money he's
- 1:33Speaker 2: owed at his age. They don't view him as a
- 1:36Speaker 2: declining player. They view him as part of their core,
- 1:39Speaker 2: and for that reason, that might be the primary one
- 1:43Speaker 2: where I think it's just going to be really difficult
- 1:45Speaker 2: to do in the middle of a season, in the offseason,
- 1:48Speaker 2: when team's rosters are more flexible, perhaps different.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Very true.
- 1:53Speaker 4: So I want to go on to two other teams
- 1:55Speaker 4: that are doing really well, the Braves and Cubs. I
- 1:57Speaker 4: want to talk about how Dylan gently they're going to
- 2:01Speaker 4: address their rotations moving forward.
- 2:04Speaker 5: It's interesting, Todd.
- 2:05Speaker 2: When I asked the Braves about their rotation just the
- 2:08Speaker 2: other day, they told me the person I spoke with
- 2:11Speaker 2: that now we're more worried about our offense right now,
- 2:15Speaker 2: we're more focused on offense, and the reason for that
- 2:18Speaker 2: is while they've been looking for a playoff caliber starter
- 2:21Speaker 2: since last offseason, they have a number of internal possibilities,
- 2:26Speaker 2: Guys coming back from injuries, guys who are possibly going
- 2:30Speaker 2: to factor into the mix. They want to explore where
- 2:33Speaker 2: they are in the next two weeks on those fronts,
- 2:36Speaker 2: and then of course focus on offense as well, because
- 2:40Speaker 2: they've been inconsistent over the last few weeks and it's
- 2:43Speaker 2: frustrating some of the upper management people with that team.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So I still expect they're going to look first starter.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I think some of this is smoke. They have to
- 2:52Speaker 2: look for a starter. But at the same time, Martin
- 2:55Speaker 2: Perez is coming back. Smith Sharver might be coming back.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Schwellenbach is perhaps long shot, but still a possibility. You've
- 3:02Speaker 2: got Ranaldo Lopez throwing well again. So they might be
- 3:06Speaker 2: in their minds for right now more subtle than they
- 3:09Speaker 2: might appear on the outside.
- 3:12Speaker 5: The Giants a team that will be able to move
- 3:15Speaker 5: some of their big contracts. Or is it getting creative
- 3:18Speaker 5: where a team says we want a certain player, well,
- 3:22Speaker 5: you can have him if you unload some of this contract.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I don't see it. Eric, Now that's said, just because
- 3:30Speaker 2: I don't see it doesn't mean it won't happen. At
- 3:32Speaker 2: the deadline, things that we think of as not likely
- 3:36Speaker 2: sometimes become rather likely, and that would go for Lindor
- 3:39Speaker 2: as well. Devers is a guy they should not want
- 3:42Speaker 2: to move. He has been really good over the last
- 3:44Speaker 2: couple of months, really back to himself. Now you can say, well,
- 3:48Speaker 2: they've got Bryce Eldridge and it ties up the DH spot.
- 3:51Speaker 2: They want the bat Raphaeld Dever's bat. That is why
- 3:55Speaker 2: they acquired him. They didn't acquire him because he was
- 3:57Speaker 2: going to be a great defender at any position They
- 3:59Speaker 2: want the nine hundred ops. Chapman is the most likely
- 4:03Speaker 2: of the three, if you can even consider it likely
- 4:06Speaker 2: at all, he would be the one that you can
- 4:08Speaker 2: at least see. But like Willia Domas, he has a
- 4:11Speaker 2: full note trade clause can certainly reject any deal govern
- 4:15Speaker 2: the process, and I'm not so sure he wants to leave.
- 4:18Speaker 2: So I don't really see any of these guys moving.
- 4:22Speaker 2: They have other things that they will do. Luis Hariyes,
- 4:25Speaker 2: Robbie Ray, etc. And then perhaps in the off season
- 4:29Speaker 2: they work harder on Maybe it's a damis that goes
- 4:32Speaker 2: somewhere else.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Ken from the San Francisco Giants to the team are
- 4:37Speaker 1: the guy that the San Francisco Giants wanted. Aaron Judge
- 4:39Speaker 1: obviously stayed with the New York Yankees. A lot of
- 4:42Speaker 1: people are wondering where art thou Aaron Judge. What's the
- 4:45Speaker 1: latest on him?
- 4:47Speaker 2: There is no latest and we're hoping for an update
- 4:50Speaker 2: today Alana. He had that imaging that they've been talking
- 4:53Speaker 2: about over the break and we're now just waiting to
- 4:56Speaker 2: see where the Yankees are with that, where Judge is
- 5:00Speaker 2: in his recovery, and obviously it's critical toward what they
- 5:04Speaker 2: might do or not do at the deadline. If Judge
- 5:07Speaker 2: is healthy, you go do what you're supposed to do,
- 5:09Speaker 2: what you want to do, which is get that right
- 5:12Speaker 2: handed hitting catcher, fix your bullpen, maybe add a depth starter.
- 5:16Speaker 2: If he's not healthy, if he's not coming back, say
- 5:18Speaker 2: to late August, or if he's out for the season.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I'm just throwing out scenarios here, then maybe you pull
- 5:25Speaker 2: back a little bit, maybe a more circumspect about what
- 5:28Speaker 2: you want to do at the deadline. You don't push
- 5:31Speaker 2: as hard if he's healthy, though they've got to go
- 5:34Speaker 2: for it. This is Aaron Judge. He's thirty four, I
- 5:37Speaker 2: believe at this point, and you only have so many
- 5:39Speaker 2: great years from him left.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Let's stick in the al at least two teams that
- 5:45Speaker 4: we thought were gonna be dominant coming in this year.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Talk about what's going to become of the Red Sox
- 5:50Speaker 4: and the Orioles moving forward.
- 5:53Speaker 2: We're gonna find out Todd the next two and a
- 5:54Speaker 2: half weeks, because it really comes down to it for
- 5:58Speaker 2: those teams and a number of others, what happens in
- 6:01Speaker 2: the period now leading to the deadline. And as I
- 6:04Speaker 2: wrote today, it's the July Pennant race. And for the
- 6:07Speaker 2: Red Sox and for the Oriols, they haven't played particularly well.
- 6:10Speaker 2: The Red Sox have a play nine game road winning
- 6:12Speaker 2: streak to enter the break, but they are in great
- 6:17Speaker 2: position as far as the playoffs are concerned, because the
- 6:20Speaker 2: American League is so weak. Red Sox a half game
- 6:23Speaker 2: out of the wildcard race, Orioles two games out. Now,
- 6:26Speaker 2: the Red Sox start a ten game homestand tonight it
- 6:30Speaker 2: begins with four games in three days against the Tampa
- 6:33Speaker 2: Bay Rays. It's going to be a better test than
- 6:35Speaker 2: what they had going into the break and the Orioles
- 6:38Speaker 2: they're in Houston and then they're in Boston. So these
- 6:42Speaker 2: series now between wildcard contenders, between division opponents, as in
- 6:47Speaker 2: the Red Sox case, they're going to play three al
- 6:49Speaker 2: these teams in a row. They're critical toward determining which
- 6:53Speaker 2: direction these teams are going to take. Now, the other
- 6:56Speaker 2: thing they have in common these two clubs, they're presidents
- 6:59Speaker 2: of baseball operations, are guys who have been under fire
- 7:02Speaker 2: Craig Breslow in Boston, michae Elias and Baltimore. And we'll
- 7:06Speaker 2: see how that factors into this as well.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Right, well, how about the last place team in the
- 7:11Speaker 5: American League League East, the Toronto Blue Jays. Are they
- 7:15Speaker 5: going to wake up? Is this the second half where
- 7:17Speaker 5: they go? Okay? Was there things that you saw ending
- 7:20Speaker 5: the first half that would lead you to say, Okay,
- 7:23Speaker 5: they're going to wake up now?
- 7:24Speaker 2: I don't know that we've seen things that would lead
- 7:27Speaker 2: us to believe that, but there is a general expectation
- 7:30Speaker 2: around the game. It seems to me that the Blue
- 7:32Speaker 2: Jays are too good to be playing the way they
- 7:34Speaker 2: have in the first half. Vladdie too good to be
- 7:38Speaker 2: a guy with a seven hundred ops and no home
- 7:40Speaker 2: runs at home and overall the offense that's been the
- 7:44Speaker 2: biggest surprise that they have not been able to really
- 7:47Speaker 2: build on what they had last year. Of course, in
- 7:50Speaker 2: the postseason, Addison Barger is out, Kirk was out for
- 7:54Speaker 2: a while. Okay, these things are factors in all this,
- 7:58Speaker 2: but it shouldn't explain or really account for what has
- 8:02Speaker 2: happened to that offense. So they needed another starter as well,
- 8:05Speaker 2: But really they need their offense to ignite and be
- 8:07Speaker 2: the kind of offense that most everyone in the industry
- 8:11Speaker 2: anticipated going into the season.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Can I apologize, I'm sure you've been asked this question
- 8:16Speaker 1: a million times. Will Trek Schoubel be a Tiger after
- 8:21Speaker 1: August third?
- 8:22Speaker 2: Well, a lot of we address this yesterday. Unfair territory,
- 8:25Speaker 2: I believe, and we'll address it again. So the question
- 8:29Speaker 2: there comes down to the same thing I was just
- 8:31Speaker 2: talking about with the Red Sox and Orioles. What do
- 8:34Speaker 2: the Tigers do over the next two and a half weeks.
- 8:36Speaker 2: On the field, they're three and a half games out
- 8:39Speaker 2: in the wildcard race. They're still eight under five hundred,
- 8:41Speaker 2: But again, this is the American League, where all things
- 8:43Speaker 2: are possible all the time. The Tigers have played really
- 8:48Speaker 2: well since June first, twenty two and fourteen, after going
- 8:51Speaker 2: twenty two and thirty eight before that. If they sustain this,
- 8:55Speaker 2: it becomes more difficult for them to trade Schooble. Now,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I know a lot of people think, well, if you
- 9:01Speaker 2: don't believe you can win the World Series, why wouldn't
- 9:03Speaker 2: you trade him and get a return greater than the
- 9:05Speaker 2: draft pick you would receive if he left as a
- 9:07Speaker 2: free agent. It's a fair question in an abstract. Try
- 9:12Speaker 2: explaining that to your fans who want the team to
- 9:15Speaker 2: do well, and try explaining it to the players who
- 9:17Speaker 2: are pushing to salvage their season. Now, some Tigers fans
- 9:22Speaker 2: might say, well, just trade him, let's get the return.
- 9:25Speaker 2: But given the weakness of the American League, if they've
- 9:28Speaker 2: got a chance to do something here with Scooble, with
- 9:32Speaker 2: Casey Miiz, maybe you take this last shot and then
- 9:34Speaker 2: figure out twenty twenty seven. In twenty twenty seven, if
- 9:38Speaker 2: there is a twenty twenty seven, yeah, no question about that.
- 9:43Speaker 5: Speed one. At the very end, you got to be
- 9:45Speaker 5: out right now, Ken Raise or Brewers, who makes the
- 9:50Speaker 5: surprise move or are both going to stay pat where
- 9:53Speaker 5: they usually are.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I don't expect the Raise to stand pat. They're gonna
- 9:56Speaker 2: do something, and they've got questions second base catcher. They
- 10:01Speaker 2: can add offense there, they can add offense in the outfield.
- 10:04Speaker 2: That's going to be a priority. They want another bat
- 10:06Speaker 2: to compliment Diaz, Aranda and Caminero. The Brewers, I don't
- 10:11Speaker 2: know that they will stand pat, but in recent years
- 10:14Speaker 2: we just have not seen them be aggressive on the
- 10:16Speaker 2: acquisition front, so I would bet the raise.
- 10:21Speaker 1: All right, Ken, we appreciate it. As always. You can
- 10:23Speaker 1: catch Ken on the Fox broadcast tonight the Dodgers are

- 11:49Speaker 1: Welcome to wheeling and deal in on this Friday edition
- 11:52Speaker 1: of Foul Territory. All right, guys, the way that we're
- 11:55Speaker 1: going to do this is we're going to basically spin
- 11:58Speaker 1: the wheel. I'm going to pick who goes first. I'm
- 12:00Speaker 1: gonna have Eric go first, and I'm gonna spin the wheel,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and you have to talk about Actually, I'm gonna have
- 12:06Speaker 1: Todd go first.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Spin the wheel.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Whatever the team is that it lands on, you're gonna
- 12:10Speaker 1: have to talk about that team. So let's go ahead
- 12:12Speaker 1: and see if they're gonna be buyers or sellers. Let's
- 12:14Speaker 1: spin the wheel.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Big money, big money, No whamies, no whamnies.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't think that's the game. But all right, all right, Todd,
- 12:28Speaker 1: you go on the Mets. Will they be buyers or sellers?
- 12:35Speaker 3: I know what they should be.
- 12:37Speaker 4: I'm not thinking they should be sellers in my opinion,
- 12:41Speaker 4: I don't think they have a chance here to make
- 12:44Speaker 4: that push to get to where they need to be.
- 12:47Speaker 4: They have a good core of young stars and Carson Ben,
- 12:50Speaker 4: jj Ewing, Christian Scott and Nola MacLean. These guys are studs,
- 12:54Speaker 4: but at the same time, you gotta bring you got
- 12:58Speaker 4: to bring more to the table. I mean, Juan Soto,
- 13:00Speaker 4: he's been doing well, but they're pitching their bullpen.
- 13:07Speaker 3: They need they need a lot of help. Some I
- 13:12Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know this Mets team.
- 13:14Speaker 4: It's so crazy to think of where they started and
- 13:16Speaker 4: where they should be as well, and right now they
- 13:19Speaker 4: are just struggle busts man Freddie Peralta hasn't been the
- 13:22Speaker 4: guy that they hope for.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I'm sure they're listening to some calls.
- 13:29Speaker 4: I mean, I think they have to right now, listening
- 13:32Speaker 4: to what people have to ask for and listening to what,
- 13:36Speaker 4: you know, people might want to bring to the table
- 13:38Speaker 4: and what they want for their team. So if I'm
- 13:41Speaker 4: the Mets, I'm listening now and I'm ready to sell.
- 13:44Speaker 1: If you want the truth, Todd, how are the Mets
- 13:46Speaker 1: so bad? Why are they so bad?
- 13:50Speaker 3: I don't know. I've played there before. I understand.
- 13:53Speaker 4: You know, we've had some I say we when I
- 13:56Speaker 4: played there, So we've had some, you know, we the
- 13:58Speaker 4: no Cindergrds of the world, and these guys are awesome,
- 14:01Speaker 4: the you know, the Harvey's of the world, like guys
- 14:05Speaker 4: the de Grams, Like they had some characters, and they
- 14:07Speaker 4: had some guys that were great at what they did.
- 14:10Speaker 4: It just seemed like there was always an issue somewhere.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Whenever we were doing good at the time, you know,
- 14:16Speaker 4: somebody in the news would find something or somebody would
- 14:19Speaker 4: act out, and we're like oh, let's not let this
- 14:21Speaker 4: get around, and eventually it did like always.
- 14:24Speaker 3: But I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
- 14:26Speaker 3: what it is. I'm not sure.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I like how the young guys are playing, No, I
- 14:30Speaker 4: mean that's something to look forward to. But I do
- 14:34Speaker 4: think they need to get an early jump on that,
- 14:36Speaker 4: on everything.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe a guy like Peter A. Lonza
- 14:39Speaker 1: at first would helped out, but what do I know.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Let's spin the.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Wheel Randomnimo.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Diaz, Edwin Diaz, all right, ek Blue days Blue Maybe
- 14:53Speaker 1: buyers or sellers? My friends?
- 14:56Speaker 5: Come on, man, you don't go out and get Dylan Ce.
- 15:00Speaker 5: You don't sign the contracts and have the forethought that
- 15:04Speaker 5: they've had this offseason to go. Yeah, you know what,
- 15:08Speaker 5: we're two and a half out, we haven't been healthy
- 15:11Speaker 5: most of the year. We should sell No chance, No chance.
- 15:16Speaker 5: I think John Schneider was spot on. There's a difference
- 15:20Speaker 5: between some teams who are like, you know, we're not
- 15:22Speaker 5: good enough and some teams where it's like, hey, you
- 15:25Speaker 5: know what, some of these dudes have to step up.
- 15:28Speaker 5: Number One, Vladimir Guerrero, he was supposed to start the
- 15:32Speaker 5: All Star Game at first base, has his performance shown
- 15:35Speaker 5: that no, is that bad for the American League East. Yes,
- 15:40Speaker 5: if he chooses to figure out whatever the heck it
- 15:44Speaker 5: is that caused him to not hit any home runs
- 15:46Speaker 5: so far this year and he turns it on in
- 15:49Speaker 5: the second half, he single handedly, we saw in the playoffs,
- 15:53Speaker 5: can lead this team. So essentially, the Blue Jays are
- 15:56Speaker 5: already picking up a stud pick up at the trade deadline,
- 16:01Speaker 5: and it's Vladimir Guerrera Junior and what he's going to
- 16:04Speaker 5: do the second half And if he doesn't do that,
- 16:06Speaker 5: this team's going to continue to be an under five
- 16:09Speaker 5: hundred team. I think a big move for them would
- 16:12Speaker 5: be to add to the starting rotation. Never thought I'd
- 16:14Speaker 5: say that in April when it was like whoa, once
- 16:17Speaker 5: all these guys are healthy, where are they all going
- 16:19Speaker 5: to pitch? But I think they have the pieces to
- 16:22Speaker 5: be able to push in for a piece. Is it
- 16:25Speaker 5: the scoobal? Eh? I see a Joe Ryan move for
- 16:30Speaker 5: them if he's available, just because I don't feel like
- 16:33Speaker 5: the Blue Jays ever make singular moves. I think they
- 16:36Speaker 5: make like three year, five year future moves. And I
- 16:40Speaker 5: think a guy like Joe Ryan with the defense that
- 16:43Speaker 5: the Blue Jays have behind him would be yes, a
- 16:46Speaker 5: great pitcher, but it would also give them I think
- 16:49Speaker 5: they would get excess value out of because of the
- 16:52Speaker 5: defense that he would have behind him that he currently
- 16:55Speaker 5: doesn't have in Minnesota. But I think Minnesota's too close,
- 16:58Speaker 5: you know. I don't think they'll get rid of them.
- 17:00Speaker 5: I think they are going to be buying, But I
- 17:03Speaker 5: also think it's not going to be outside of that.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Maybe one bullpen piece, maybe a starting pitcher that can
- 17:10Speaker 5: get behind Gallsman and see because Cees is really only
- 17:14Speaker 5: guy that's been consistent. I think this is a buying
- 17:17Speaker 5: market for them. I don't think it's going to be massive, though.
- 17:21Speaker 1: All Right, the Blue Jays want to go for a
- 17:22Speaker 1: big splash. We talked about it. How about school wel
- 17:25Speaker 1: how about Joe Ryan, how about Sandy Alcontra? In field prospects?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Jojo Parker could go away shortstop our June Normala could
- 17:33Speaker 1: possibly be dealt as well. All right, my turn, time
- 17:36Speaker 1: to spin that wheel.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Let's spin the wheel on yourself.
- 17:39Speaker 1: That's right, I think I can't.
- 17:41Speaker 5: No Dodgers, no Dodgers, No Dodgers, no Dodgers. There's no Dodgers.
- 17:44Speaker 1: On the first of all the Dodgers aren't even on there. Okay,
- 17:47Speaker 1: but we will we will stick. We will stick in
- 17:50Speaker 1: the division. The San Diego Padres, who as a Dodger fan,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I you know, it's really rough for me to see
- 17:56Speaker 1: that the Padres are having such a terrible year. Oh me,
- 18:00Speaker 1: oh my, I tell you that, all right, So Padres.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Aj The thing about the Padres, guys, you know better
- 18:05Speaker 1: than anybody. AJ Preller is always wheeling and dealing. He said,
- 18:09Speaker 1: We're going to go in open minded, of course, about
- 18:12Speaker 1: whether we're going to acquire players or looking if we
- 18:14Speaker 1: have to go in another direction. Now, the Padres and
- 18:18Speaker 1: AJ Preller, they have not been sellers since twenty and nineteen.
- 18:22Speaker 1: That says a lot about them, right. They've been in
- 18:24Speaker 1: the thick of it for the majority of recent memory
- 18:27Speaker 1: because they've been in the postseason and they have been
- 18:30Speaker 1: a decent team. Now San Diego's going to face the
- 18:32Speaker 1: Braves and the Marlins before the deadline at the end
- 18:34Speaker 1: of July. How they perform in those particular series is
- 18:38Speaker 1: likely going to determine their stance.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:39Speaker 1: The biggest need that they have starting pitching their biggest
- 18:42Speaker 1: chips or Ethan Sallas, maybe Mason Miller. I don't know.
- 18:46Speaker 1: If you are the Padres, I'll ask you guys this,
- 18:48Speaker 1: do you think they actually deal Miller to revitalize their
- 18:52Speaker 1: thirtieth ranked farm system, because if they deal him, they're
- 18:56Speaker 1: going to have to get back a massive haul in
- 18:59Speaker 1: return for one of the best closers in the game. No, no,
- 19:04Speaker 1: don't do them right, there's no way.
- 19:06Speaker 5: A J Preller said it himself. You can always make
- 19:09Speaker 5: more prospects. That's what they've done. Like, I don't I
- 19:13Speaker 5: think people think, well, you just get these prospects and
- 19:16Speaker 5: they're already good players. Yeah, but you got to develop
- 19:19Speaker 5: these dudes like the Padres. If they are able to
- 19:22Speaker 5: constantly say, Okay we want Wan Soda, Bang, we'll get them. Hey,
- 19:26Speaker 5: we want Mason Miller, Bang, we'll get them. We want
- 19:30Speaker 5: you know, all these pieces, you have to create these prospects.
- 19:35Speaker 5: I think maybe there's a chance they would move Mason Miller,
- 19:38Speaker 5: but not to revitalize their farm system. They have to
- 19:41Speaker 5: create those you can't you can't just build it. I
- 19:45Speaker 5: don't think. I don't think a J Pereller is going
- 19:46Speaker 5: to build up the farm system to then trade it
- 19:49Speaker 5: for another star. That would be like robbing Peter to
- 19:53Speaker 5: pay Paul So to me, I think that he would
- 19:55Speaker 5: maybe move Mason Miller because he's always going to be
- 19:58Speaker 5: that guy that everybody wants because we're so enamored with
- 20:00Speaker 5: having a closer. Maybe there's a big, big league piece
- 20:04Speaker 5: that they could get from Mason Miller. That's like when
- 20:07Speaker 5: they traded Juan Soto. One of the bigger pieces in
- 20:10Speaker 5: that trade that was paid immediate dividends eventually signed back
- 20:14Speaker 5: with the Padres, Michael King. Look like that's where I think.
- 20:19Speaker 5: If aj Prowler moves a Mason Miller the way he
- 20:22Speaker 5: makes moves, who is that piece that can actually hit
- 20:27Speaker 5: a home run for the Padres.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And not only that, it's not as if the Padres
- 20:31Speaker 1: are dead yet. I mean, I obviously I was joking
- 20:33Speaker 1: about the fact that they're not playing well, but they
- 20:35Speaker 1: are only three and a half games out of the wildcard.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Albeit the National League, it's going to be harder to
- 20:39Speaker 1: get in, but this is not a team that is
- 20:41Speaker 1: completely under the water yet. All right, time to spin
- 20:44Speaker 1: the wheel, Todd Frasier, you are up.
- 20:50Speaker 5: But that it's the white size because Todd coaches South Side.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Ers oh in the state in the state in the
- 20:58Speaker 1: same division. But it is not the White Sox. It
- 21:01Speaker 1: is the Detroit Tigers Todd Father, which I always have
- 21:05Speaker 1: a hard time calling you that because of Todd Hilton.
- 21:06Speaker 4: But you've said it twice now, and I know, I know,
- 21:11Speaker 4: I know.
- 21:12Speaker 3: It just comes more natural.
- 21:13Speaker 5: As it helps his brand. Good job, You're welcome.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Because I always I love him ever since he was
- 21:19Speaker 1: a Cincinnati Red. All right, do the Tigers buy or sell?
- 21:24Speaker 4: They better sell. I've said this before. I don't think
- 21:27Speaker 4: they're making the playoffs. I know their percentages have gone down.
- 21:31Speaker 4: I don't see this team as a playoff team. I
- 21:34Speaker 4: love what they did the last couple of years. I
- 21:37Speaker 4: love AJ Hinch and how he manages his team. They
- 21:40Speaker 4: got one of the biggest selling points in baseball, if
- 21:44Speaker 4: not the biggest in Trek Schoovill. This guy, they can
- 21:48Speaker 4: get a boatload back for him. It's his last year.
- 21:51Speaker 4: He's going to be a free agent. He's an absolute stud.
- 21:55Speaker 4: He's the best left handed pitcher in Major League Baseball.
- 21:58Speaker 4: This is the guy. You sell him, and you put
- 22:01Speaker 4: him up with a big sign, say he's going give
- 22:05Speaker 4: me your best offer.
- 22:07Speaker 3: And I know a bunch of teams out there would
- 22:09Speaker 3: love to have him.
- 22:10Speaker 4: They would get a bunch of guys back, veteran guys,
- 22:15Speaker 4: guys upcoming that I just think they need to do this.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Casey Miz is another guy. He'll be a free agent
- 22:23Speaker 4: next year. He's had a really good year.
- 22:26Speaker 3: No, do not buy.
- 22:28Speaker 4: If I am the Tigers, I'm selling this guy. You
- 22:31Speaker 4: saw it with Shoheo Tani. They didn't do nothing with them.
- 22:34Speaker 4: The Angels the best player on the planet. They could
- 22:37Speaker 4: have got anything they really wanted from him.
- 22:41Speaker 3: They didn't do anything.
- 22:42Speaker 4: This is the next guy in line that you need
- 22:44Speaker 4: to get rid of, and you need to bring back
- 22:46Speaker 4: a big haul because I don't see him coming back
- 22:49Speaker 4: after this year.
- 22:51Speaker 5: They have some of the right handed pieces that I
- 22:53Speaker 5: think some teams might want. Also, I get it myz
- 22:57Speaker 5: and scuball are there. But if the Tigers are getting
- 23:01Speaker 5: rid of those guys, maybe it's time to think about
- 23:05Speaker 5: what kind of value can I get for some of
- 23:07Speaker 5: my right handed pieces, and maybe let some of your
- 23:10Speaker 5: left handed pieces play against lefties. To me, I saw
- 23:14Speaker 5: how those hitters improved in LA when they weren't quite
- 23:20Speaker 5: so platoon heavy. And then they win one championship, and
- 23:24Speaker 5: then they win back to back championship, So I think
- 23:28Speaker 5: there's some maturation and you know, kind of take the
- 23:31Speaker 5: training wheels off if you let some of these left
- 23:33Speaker 5: handed hitters struggle against lefties and see what happens. And
- 23:37Speaker 5: the market needs right handed hitters. So I look at Vierling,
- 23:40Speaker 5: I look at Torkolson. Are they having incredible years. Absolutely not.
- 23:44Speaker 5: But I think some teams can find value on their
- 23:46Speaker 5: team for these guys.
