- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey everyone, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:13Speaker 1: of Long Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and today is our first work day of twenty twenty
- 0:19Speaker 1: two and we are diving headfirst into New Year, New movies.
- 0:23Speaker 1: WHOA I would like to stay For the record, Yes,
- 0:26Speaker 1: that Wendy was the one who made the announcement that
- 0:28Speaker 1: we would be continuing with Hallmark in twenty twenty two.
- 0:31Speaker 1: So I claim I cannot be called for co work.
- 0:37Speaker 1: It's not your fault anymore. It never was your fault, actually,
- 0:41Speaker 1: because I think it from Yeah, well, it's funny you
- 0:45Speaker 1: bring that up. Because I have a friend who was
- 0:47Speaker 1: asking what I was doing today. I was like, well,
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm recording podcast. I gotta do a homework. Oh she
- 0:51Speaker 1: goes homework still and I was like yeah, there's people
- 0:56Speaker 1: who listen to them. And she's like like how many?
- 1:00Speaker 1: And I was like, oh no, you didn't. Like I
- 1:03Speaker 1: was like, seriously, shots fire don't happen. I can't remember
- 1:08Speaker 1: what I said, but I was like, it's a lot,
- 1:11Speaker 1: So thank you, Thank you listeners. It's a lot. But
- 1:18Speaker 1: I was like, don't shame me. People find this entertaining.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Just because you don't like Hallmark movies. There are people
- 1:26Speaker 1: who do yes when people want to hear what we
- 1:29Speaker 1: think about them. So look, the podcast is an opt
- 1:32Speaker 1: in experience. Right when nobody's pulling it down and forcing
- 1:35Speaker 1: me to listen, I know. I was just not everything
- 1:37Speaker 1: is for everyone and that it's okay, Okay, I have
- 1:41Speaker 1: a proposal. Oh, I want to potentially change our reading system.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Oh oh, you made a face like you were worriedous?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Why did you get nervous? Okay? All last year we've
- 1:57Speaker 1: always ranked our movies on a four star system. Yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Why why I chose four stars? I don't know, because
- 2:05Speaker 1: I think it makes more sense for a five star
- 2:07Speaker 1: system in my brain because it's ABC, D and F right, Okay,
- 2:12Speaker 1: those are five letters and the four gets kind of late.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So I'm proposing a five star. Okay, a five star rating?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Are you okay with that? I'm into it? Okay, all right?
- 2:24Speaker 1: I like that? Is there anything else? We have a
- 2:29Speaker 1: Patreon tier that is just for our Hallmark listeners, and
- 2:32Speaker 1: you know, during the holidays that was very specifically extra
- 2:36Speaker 1: holiday movies because there were more movies than we could
- 2:38Speaker 1: ever possibly review. And if you're thinking, but there's only
- 2:42Speaker 1: one movie a week, now, what will you do? We
- 2:44Speaker 1: have a plan. We have a plan, and it's very
- 2:48Speaker 1: und brand for our habit of objectifying the men of
- 2:50Speaker 1: pal Mark. So I'm just gonna leave it at that,
- 2:53Speaker 1: and as those episodes drop, we will let you know.
- 2:55Speaker 1: But if you want to get in on that the
- 2:57Speaker 1: second they are available, I just like to say, as
- 3:01Speaker 1: a teaser for January, Tyler freaking high. Speaking of Christmas,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I don't think we can move forward New Year New
- 3:10Speaker 1: Movies without just a quick Christmas countdown to Christmas holiday
- 3:16Speaker 1: wrap up. Yeah, yep, I agree. I want to know
- 3:20Speaker 1: your top three movies. I knew you were going to
- 3:22Speaker 1: ask top three. Yeah, I get a look, they've bumped
- 3:26Speaker 1: countdown to Christmas off of the main page of the app.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Do they have Love Youary on there already? Oh that's
- 3:34Speaker 1: a fail. You think New Year New Movies is bad
- 3:36Speaker 1: Love Youary? Yeah? What was it last year? It was?
- 3:39Speaker 1: I don't it was not Loveuary though, Okay I did
- 3:44Speaker 1: not watch every movie this year. Uh huh Wow, I'm
- 3:47Speaker 1: actually kind of surprised to hear that top three. I'm
- 3:50Speaker 1: gonna say, no particular order. Do they have to be
- 3:53Speaker 1: an order, No an Unexpected Christmas number one Christmas and
- 4:01Speaker 1: now this is tough for me. I agree? And can
- 4:04Speaker 1: I have a three way tie flirt? Yes? And it
- 4:06Speaker 1: might be the same Okay, I'm curious to see if
- 4:09Speaker 1: it's the same as mine because those two movies that
- 4:11Speaker 1: you just mentioned are in my top three as well.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And I kind of have a three way Is it
- 4:17Speaker 1: a three way time? Maybe a two way tie? Maybe
- 4:19Speaker 1: this is a top five. I'm just gonna call it
- 4:20Speaker 1: a top five, Hey, top five? Top five? Christmas House two, Oh,
- 4:25Speaker 1: I didn't see it. It was it great? It was great?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Oh good? And the two Sister Swap movies, oh, interesting, interesting.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I didn't really like the second sister Swap movie. That's
- 4:37Speaker 1: why it doesn't make my top five. Yeah, I think
- 4:39Speaker 1: I have a top four. Okay, Christmas Sale, no order
- 4:43Speaker 1: because honestly, the Tyler Hines movie blew every movie out
- 4:46Speaker 1: of the water for me. It was good from top
- 4:48Speaker 1: to bottom. Funny, great, story writing was great. I loved it.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Christmas Sale. What's the Tyler Heines movie called? An Unexpected Christmas?
- 4:57Speaker 1: And Unexpected Christmas? The first Swap? Yes? And the Santa
- 5:03Speaker 1: Steakout that's great. I'm scrolling through. I also really love
- 5:07Speaker 1: Next Stop Christmas, even though so did I. Even though,
- 5:11Speaker 1: as I said in that podcast episode, the last ten
- 5:14Speaker 1: minutes blew the entire movie for me. I did think
- 5:17Speaker 1: that was enjoyable for an hour and twenty three minutes. Yeah,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I didn't hate that movie at all. No, it was fun.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I just have a note tear. When we first reviewed
- 5:27Speaker 1: The Santa Steakout. Yeah, you asked if Paul Campbell was
- 5:31Speaker 1: a Wowie's howe where you're going? Uh huh? And I
- 5:34Speaker 1: was like, Nah, he doesn't really do it for me.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He's come a long way for me. The fact that
- 5:40Speaker 1: he wrote an Unexpected Christmas makes me tingle in ways.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And his Twitter and his stance against Ghack family. Really,
- 5:52Speaker 1: he's had some singers on Twitter. He's funny. I agree. Yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: he's grown on me a lot now. I enjoyed him
- 5:59Speaker 1: in The Santa Steakout, but knowing him outside of that
- 6:02Speaker 1: movie has also made my esteem for him grow. Will
- 6:06Speaker 1: Paul Campbell show up on one of our Patreon months? Oh?
- 6:12Speaker 1: Is he on our shirt? He's not on our shirt?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Oh man, I know? Do you know what we're talking about? Friends?
- 6:17Speaker 1: We have a dude's the Hallmark shirt. Check it out.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Lincoln Show notes, I kind of feel like we may
- 6:21Speaker 1: need like several versions of that shirt so everybody gets
- 6:25Speaker 1: their like exact combination of dude that they want on
- 6:28Speaker 1: their shirt. Awesome. Why don't we jump right in with
- 6:32Speaker 1: a synopsis of this movie, which was called Where Your
- 6:35Speaker 1: Heart Belongs, stars Jen Lily and Christopher Russell. If you
- 6:39Speaker 1: can't tell, I'm killing time while Wendy pulls up a synopsis,
- 6:42Speaker 1: hold on, So Where Your Heart Belongs is about when
- 6:48Speaker 1: a New York marketing executive returns home to help her
- 6:51Speaker 1: best friend's wedding. She learns the hard way that love
- 6:53Speaker 1: and support of family and friends means more than she'd
- 6:55Speaker 1: ever imagine. Starring Jen Lily and Christopher Russell, this movie
- 7:01Speaker 1: was supposed to originally premiere on January fifteenth, and Hallmark
- 7:08Speaker 1: did a whole little switcheroo. I don't know when they
- 7:11Speaker 1: did it, but they swapped the perfect pairing with Nanzine
- 7:17Speaker 1: Nazanine Nasnin Contractor and Brendan Elliott with this movie. And
- 7:25Speaker 1: this is why I think, why now I have no
- 7:28Speaker 1: inside information, I am not sleepy kitty pop. I don't know.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I think that they needed like the Jen Lily name
- 7:39Speaker 1: to like bring the viewers in for the new Year,
- 7:43Speaker 1: New movies. I think that it's interesting that you think
- 7:46Speaker 1: there was that much thought. I think perfect pairing wasn't ready.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Oh that's my guess. Perhaps that's my guess. I mean maybe.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But because they knew Jen Lilly was later in the
- 7:58Speaker 1: It's not like they didn't know we have they had
- 8:00Speaker 1: a Jen Lily movie when they created the lineup. True,
- 8:03Speaker 1: that's fair, But I'm just wondering if, like me, it
- 8:06Speaker 1: starts strong. Well, yeah, they're like, we're gonna put a
- 8:09Speaker 1: big name on the up top here. Plus, their countdown
- 8:13Speaker 1: to Christmas movies ended how many weeks ago, so they
- 8:17Speaker 1: got to bring in that countdown to Christmas audience and
- 8:19Speaker 1: they want to familiar face. Yeah, because I bet their
- 8:22Speaker 1: viewership trickled off towards the end there, you know, the
- 8:25Speaker 1: end of December for sure, if they were just reshowing
- 8:29Speaker 1: old countdown to Christmas, yeah, exactly. Now, so you know
- 8:33Speaker 1: they feel like Jen Lily is the gal that would
- 8:36Speaker 1: bring the viewers. Well. This movie was not only originally
- 8:40Speaker 1: supposed to air on a different date, it was originally
- 8:42Speaker 1: titled Something Different and the title was Love is Trending.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Do you have thoughts on that original title. I think
- 8:47Speaker 1: they should have kept it, as do I. They said
- 8:49Speaker 1: it like fourteen times at the end of the movie.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I don't know if you've realized. I didn't realize that.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Her assistant was like at the wedding, love is Trending. Anyway,
- 9:00Speaker 1: it was like, yeah, so I was like, ooh, they
- 9:01Speaker 1: changed the name after obviously where your Heart Belongs. I
- 9:07Speaker 1: don't even know what that means. It's so generic and
- 9:10Speaker 1: it could be used for so many of these movies
- 9:12Speaker 1: where they come home and they move, you know, they
- 9:17Speaker 1: go back home, they move. There's so many movies where
- 9:19Speaker 1: they are changing locations for their love interests that I
- 9:24Speaker 1: just think Love Is Trending made a lot of sense
- 9:27Speaker 1: with the premise of this movie. It's certainly more interesting.
- 9:31Speaker 1: It makes me want to watch it more than Where
- 9:33Speaker 1: the Heart Belongs. Where the Heart Belongs feels like when
- 9:35Speaker 1: where Your Heart Belong? Okay, it feels like when calls
- 9:38Speaker 1: the Heart. Yeah, totally, that's why I can't what's that
- 9:42Speaker 1: Selene Dion song called Well, I'm completely blank right now?
- 9:46Speaker 1: Brain Games. Brain Games throw back to Tuesday's episode Your
- 9:51Speaker 1: Heart Will Go On is the song. By the way,
- 9:54Speaker 1: it didn't come up. It just came to me as
- 9:56Speaker 1: I was typing in Selene. It did not come up.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I do think Love This Trending is a better title.
- 10:01Speaker 1: It is more memorable, and it is more fun. I agree.
- 10:05Speaker 1: It gives me that like young, youthful fun. However, however,
- 10:10Speaker 1: is that their demo? It's not? You know, so, Grandma
- 10:15Speaker 1: who knits while she watches Hallmark movies, does she want
- 10:18Speaker 1: to watch Love Is Trending? Or does she want to
- 10:21Speaker 1: watch have to scroll up where your heart belongs? I mean, yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I hear your point. It's a good point. I'd love
- 10:28Speaker 1: to know the focus groups happening behind the scenes a time.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Oh no, please hire us, We're not. I mean, I
- 10:34Speaker 1: want to be a fly on the wall when these
- 10:37Speaker 1: conversations be in the room. Yeah, totally. According to hetty
- 10:41Speaker 1: dot com, this movie was filmed in January twenty twenty one. Yeah.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I saw that too, but that was also confirmed by
- 10:48Speaker 1: Jen Lily herself. Oh was it? Yes, because someone commented
- 10:51Speaker 1: on an Instagram photo and they said, oh, this must
- 10:53Speaker 1: have been a while ago, because you weren't showing, and
- 10:55Speaker 1: she said yes January. Yes, because she's currently pregnant. Right, yeah, right?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Do you think they shelved this movie. I don't know
- 11:03Speaker 1: what goes into the decision making. If it was filmed
- 11:07Speaker 1: in January or February. It could have been a February movie.
- 11:10Speaker 1: It could have been a spring movie, yeah, because there
- 11:14Speaker 1: was no snow in it, right, it wasn't winter at all. Yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 1: other than the fact that I do believe maybe you
- 11:21Speaker 1: tap maple syrup in the winter months. Oh, I gots
- 11:24Speaker 1: some interesting information on the Okay, Well, of course, this
- 11:28Speaker 1: was filmed in British Columbia. And one of my favorite
- 11:30Speaker 1: things as I was looking for information about this movie
- 11:32Speaker 1: are all the reviews that are like, hah, these dummies
- 11:35Speaker 1: can't even find a maple tree to use. They're like,
- 11:38Speaker 1: they're tapping an oak tree. They're tapping a cedar tree. Yeah, hilarious. Okay,
- 11:42Speaker 1: so let me ask you about that. I looked on
- 11:44Speaker 1: IMDb as well, and the reviews are not great. On IMDb.
- 11:48Speaker 1: There were a whole bunch of moment and they were
- 11:50Speaker 1: real bad, and a lot of them said like, that's
- 11:52Speaker 1: a cedar tree, that's an oak tree. I was like, well,
- 11:56Speaker 1: what kind of tree is it? Actually? It was definitely
- 11:59Speaker 1: not a maple tree, but like, what kind of tree
- 12:02Speaker 1: was it? I'm not a tree person. I don't know.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I did think it was really funny at one time.
- 12:07Speaker 1: They're like, there's like moss on the trees, and I
- 12:10Speaker 1: was like, hmm, that seems weird, Like that doesn't seem
- 12:13Speaker 1: like the right kind of tree. But I don't know
- 12:14Speaker 1: anything about trees well, and shouldn't there be snow on
- 12:17Speaker 1: the ground in these winter months when they're tapping? But
- 12:20Speaker 1: they never really said what month it was. Maybe I
- 12:23Speaker 1: do think you taped trees in the winter. I believe
- 12:26Speaker 1: so maple experts please email us at Megan and Windy
- 12:29Speaker 1: at Gmail talk made that up. I had like a
- 12:33Speaker 1: real deep memory that I'm pulling up that I've read something. Anyway.
- 12:37Speaker 1: This movie also stars Christopher Russell, who was in a
- 12:41Speaker 1: bottom five movie of twenty twenty one for me, which
- 12:43Speaker 1: is Chasing Waterfalls, although I quite enjoyed him in this
- 12:46Speaker 1: actually too, he was also in Unreal And it's funny
- 12:50Speaker 1: because we've talked about some of the shows that get
- 12:52Speaker 1: a lot of these Hallmark actors. Once upon a Time
- 12:54Speaker 1: is one of them. Unreal as another week it is,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and really've had quite the Parade of Brennan Elliott has
- 13:00Speaker 1: been in an unreal Tyler Hines has been an unreal
- 13:03Speaker 1: And I wonder if it's just because they kind of
- 13:04Speaker 1: need a never ending stream of dudes for that show
- 13:07Speaker 1: that they just hot dudes. Yeah, maybe who are available
- 13:11Speaker 1: for an episode or two because they don't play major
- 13:14Speaker 1: recurring roles. But you know, I did look up Tyler
- 13:18Speaker 1: Hines on and he it was like five episodes, so
- 13:21Speaker 1: I don't But I watched that show and I don't
- 13:23Speaker 1: remember him, so I've seen. Yeah, let's talk first impressions.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Mac might be the most unlikable character in the history
- 13:32Speaker 1: of Girls Gone Hallmark and easily wins the Worst Friend
- 13:34Speaker 1: Ever award. I wrote, Wow, nobody got time for a
- 13:39Speaker 1: self absorbed friend like Matt. Get the fuck out. She
- 13:43Speaker 1: was an awful human being? Was she not? Like if
- 13:46Speaker 1: I was and Lily, I would be like, I don't
- 13:49Speaker 1: want to play that character. Like she's a bitch, she's
- 13:53Speaker 1: super self absorbed. She's the worst, the worst, You're the worst?
- 13:58Speaker 1: You know that give why would she take this movie?
- 14:07Speaker 1: Does this feel like a challenge comparison to the sweethearts
- 14:11Speaker 1: she typically plays? Well? This is my thought. One of
- 14:16Speaker 1: the very first Hallmark movies I watched in love is
- 14:18Speaker 1: called The Spirit of Christmas. I have not watched it
- 14:19Speaker 1: in several years. I have not watched it since we
- 14:22Speaker 1: started Girls Gone Homework, so I've never watched it with
- 14:25Speaker 1: that critical eye. It stars Jen Lily and it's a
- 14:28Speaker 1: very memorable one. Like people who have never seen any
- 14:31Speaker 1: Hallmark movie have seen the Spirit of Christmas and they
- 14:33Speaker 1: think they know what a Hallmark movie is about. It's
- 14:35Speaker 1: unfair because the Spirit of Christmas is about a woman
- 14:36Speaker 1: who falls in love with the ghost who then makes
- 14:38Speaker 1: the decision to stay alive and be with her. It
- 14:41Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense. But we know that's not really
- 14:44Speaker 1: an requirement for Hallmark movies. But my question is, I
- 14:49Speaker 1: wonder if I should rewatch that and see because I
- 14:52Speaker 1: think Jen Lily plays unlikable characters. Do you recall her
- 14:56Speaker 1: in last year's January movie in the Snow She was
- 15:00Speaker 1: all washed out, I wretched, she was wretched and mingo
- 15:03Speaker 1: all the way too. I don't remember the character she
- 15:06Speaker 1: played in that movie. That was the first Gin Lily
- 15:08Speaker 1: movie I'd had ever seen, and I remember I was
- 15:10Speaker 1: super critical of her. Were like really yellow blonde hair,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and she was like so washed out. Yes, and that
- 15:15Speaker 1: was a terrible movie, bad to boot. But Mingo All
- 15:18Speaker 1: the Way was awful too. What I'm saying is I
- 15:20Speaker 1: think she plays unlikable characters. Okay, I was just gonna
- 15:25Speaker 1: say I don't think she's a great actress. Look, and
- 15:28Speaker 1: I said it before when we reviewed Mingle All the Way,
- 15:30Speaker 1: which ran the last weeks of Christmas. I didn't notice
- 15:35Speaker 1: that and I looked for it. Maybe she that was
- 15:38Speaker 1: a character choice for her. She's a sighing actor. Yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I just don't think she's that great of an actress. Well,
- 15:46Speaker 1: can we talk about what we liked? Okay, because my
- 15:49Speaker 1: first point is as much as I disliked Jen Lily's
- 15:54Speaker 1: character in this movie, I liked her. I found her
- 15:56Speaker 1: enjoyable to watch and charming on screen as long as
- 15:58Speaker 1: I didn't really pay attention to what she was doing
- 16:00Speaker 1: or saying. Does that make sense? It does not, But
- 16:03Speaker 1: neither does the plot of this movie. Okay, let let
- 16:08Speaker 1: me dig into this. Here, she's very pretty the look
- 16:12Speaker 1: at she's got these adorable dimples. Hill here she's got
- 16:15Speaker 1: these big like anime eyes, Like you know, she's super cute,
- 16:19Speaker 1: and I could feel like maybe women like watching her
- 16:22Speaker 1: because she feels aspirational in terms of you know whatever.
- 16:25Speaker 1: So I get that. Now, what about the movie? It
- 16:30Speaker 1: didn't storyline didn't make sense to you. We'll get into it.
- 16:34Speaker 1: There was a very there's a big piece of the
- 16:36Speaker 1: movie that doesn't make sense. Okay, all right, Okay, speaking
- 16:41Speaker 1: of editing our shirts, we're gonna need one that says
- 16:43Speaker 1: Christopher on it. He's a wowie's howie you know? Okay,
- 16:46Speaker 1: So I hated that movie he was in hated Chasing
- 16:50Speaker 1: wat I hated it so much. It was like, definitely
- 16:53Speaker 1: one of the worst. But maybe it was Cindy Busby
- 16:55Speaker 1: that made me hate that movie. I don't remember him
- 16:58Speaker 1: being like like a wowie zowie me right, But in
- 17:01Speaker 1: this movie, I was like, why did I shit on
- 17:06Speaker 1: you so hard? Because like you're super likable and easy
- 17:10Speaker 1: on the eyes, and then he had this character that's
- 17:13Speaker 1: like so giving and caring of this Max dad. You know.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I was like, oh, yeah, week in the knees for
- 17:22Speaker 1: like a man who's like that, Yeah, no, he's got
- 17:25Speaker 1: to be on our shirt somewhere. Yeah, I hear you,
- 17:28Speaker 1: he does need to be on our Shirt's just gonna
- 17:30Speaker 1: be like twelve fun I have to get really close,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and it's so funny because it's like every boy's name.
- 17:39Speaker 1: It's like Christopher Tyler, Benjamin. Yeah, I gonna be like
- 17:43Speaker 1: any Randa, Like what the heck? I enjoyed the actress
- 17:47Speaker 1: Jill Morrison as best friend Olivia. Liked her too. Yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I didn't know her name. I thank you for doing
- 17:52Speaker 1: the leg work on that. I thought she has several
- 17:55Speaker 1: funny lines. I liked her a lot too. She did
- 17:58Speaker 1: a good job carrying this and putting Mac in her
- 18:02Speaker 1: place and her like, hello, look at me, like let's
- 18:07Speaker 1: have an actual conversation. Let me just stop you there.
- 18:10Speaker 1: That whole scene where she's like, look, I found my
- 18:11Speaker 1: grandmother's compact and then Mac breaks it. I was like,
- 18:16Speaker 1: I wait, and like the actress, what's her friend's name
- 18:23Speaker 1: in the movie, she just leaves it there and trusts
- 18:25Speaker 1: the door. Yeah, I was like, only the glass is broken,
- 18:29Speaker 1: Like pick it back up, carry the combacks. Oh my goodness.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I did like her. Okay, so this might be kind
- 18:35Speaker 1: of weird, but I didn't hate the angle in this movie.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Hear me out traditional marketing being edged out by influencers, right, yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 1: do we only understand this because we are been in
- 18:49Speaker 1: this space for a long time. Does the general public
- 18:52Speaker 1: not really fully understand like the power of the influencer
- 18:56Speaker 1: and how it's taking over the world. Possibly, Okay, I
- 19:00Speaker 1: would like to speak to that one. Okay. I do
- 19:02Speaker 1: think they're like making the big bad influencer role here.
- 19:05Speaker 1: They're like, she has no talent, she's inauthentic, which she's
- 19:08Speaker 1: what she says in the beginning, like don't they want authenticity?
- 19:11Speaker 1: And then I did think it was funny because they
- 19:13Speaker 1: were like, she's in the face of this brand and
- 19:15Speaker 1: then this brand and then this brand. I was like, Okay,
- 19:17Speaker 1: we get it, but here's where it doesn't hold up
- 19:21Speaker 1: for me. And this is in my wish But we're
- 19:23Speaker 1: talking about it now. What is her job? She's a marketer.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Why is her decorating a wedding beneficial to her job
- 19:34Speaker 1: as a marketer? I don't know. Look at those floral arrangements.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Sure you could sell my vodka brand. It doesn't make
- 19:40Speaker 1: any sense. Now, there's nothing about like, she's not an
- 19:42Speaker 1: event planner, right, Why didn't they just make her an
- 19:44Speaker 1: event a celebrity event planner. I mean, other than the
- 19:48Speaker 1: fact that somebody wanted to get in the dig influencers.
- 19:51Speaker 1: This writer is like, I hate influencers. You guys are inauthentic.
- 19:55Speaker 1: You'll sell out to the highest bidder, and plenty of
- 19:58Speaker 1: them will. That didn't make sense, like, Oh, we're gonna
- 20:03Speaker 1: get this celebrity DJ, and that's somehow gonna up your
- 20:06Speaker 1: marketing game. Oh you're doing this big, fancy wedding and
- 20:09Speaker 1: now people are gonna buy you as a marketer. They don't.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Those two things aren't related. It didn't make any sense.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I didn't understand Tristan's angle, like, oh, let's tell everybody
- 20:19Speaker 1: it's this exclusive wedding. Why. Yeah, No, you're right sense,
- 20:24Speaker 1: And don't marketers hire influencers? That's a good point, Yeah,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think the idea here is like a
- 20:36Speaker 1: brand can pay a marketing company to create an ad campaign,
- 20:39Speaker 1: or they can pay an influencer a third and they're
- 20:41Speaker 1: going to create their own, like influencer campaign. Sure, and
- 20:46Speaker 1: they're gonna do their own photo editing and their own photography.
- 20:48Speaker 1: You're on their own hair and makeup, and you don't
- 20:49Speaker 1: have to pay for all of that. I think in
- 20:51Speaker 1: this case they're at odds. But I don't think they
- 20:55Speaker 1: fully understood what a marketer does as opposed to what
- 20:58Speaker 1: an event planner does, right, And that's why I'm I
- 21:01Speaker 1: was saying, like I kind of like the angle of
- 21:06Speaker 1: that little particular, like go with that, get it wrong? Yeah, yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I like that angle too. And it's funny because we
- 21:13Speaker 1: over the holiday break did a review of a previous
- 21:17Speaker 1: Gen Lily movie, Mingle All the Way, which is about
- 21:20Speaker 1: an app that doesn't age well. Because this sort of
- 21:23Speaker 1: thing is very timely, and so it will be interesting
- 21:26Speaker 1: to see how well this age is it won't. You know.
- 21:30Speaker 1: She's got like her Instagram feed and her Pinterest feed,
- 21:32Speaker 1: and she's constantly doing this, that and the other, and
- 21:34Speaker 1: in a couple of years, who knows. Yeah, that's funny.
- 21:37Speaker 1: It's just gonna get shelved somewhere, right, We're gonna be like,
- 21:40Speaker 1: it's not gonna be a timeless movie, no, no, no, no. Okay.
- 21:45Speaker 1: The last thing I did like about this there were
- 21:47Speaker 1: a couple of really funny LOL lines for me, okay,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and it is when they were all sitting at the
- 21:53Speaker 1: dining room table and they were ragging on Max so
- 21:56Speaker 1: hard cooking. It was really funny. I thought that felt
- 22:02Speaker 1: very genuine I did. I did like that their laughter
- 22:06Speaker 1: and their jokes that felt like, oh, yeah, you've had
- 22:09Speaker 1: to eat her terrible cooking before. Yeah, I thought it
- 22:11Speaker 1: was not just funny. Well, my biggest wish was a
- 22:14Speaker 1: better und Wait are we talking about wishy now? You
- 22:17Speaker 1: said that was the last thing you like. That was
- 22:19Speaker 1: my like, okay, am I sorry, go ahead, you can
- 22:20Speaker 1: talk about your wishes. So my transition was so smooth
- 22:23Speaker 1: and then I'm sorry. My biggest wish, as we discussed,
- 22:28Speaker 1: was the writer's having a better understanding of Max's job.
- 22:32Speaker 1: But my second biggest wish is Tristan would cut fifty
- 22:36Speaker 1: percent of the girls out of his vocabulary. It's almost
- 22:39Speaker 1: to the point that I think it's problematic. Yeah, if
- 22:42Speaker 1: it's an actress choice, fine, If it was a writing choice,
- 22:45Speaker 1: I dislike it as I think they were trying to
- 22:47Speaker 1: make him a caricature of somebody exactly. Yes, that's so
- 22:51Speaker 1: perfectly well said, and I agree, here's some something I
- 22:55Speaker 1: wished for. I thought it was almost too over to
- 23:01Speaker 1: top with how much they were like harping on Mac
- 23:04Speaker 1: about her being on her phone. Yes, yes, I'm like,
- 23:08Speaker 1: she's working. People use their phones. She took two weeks
- 23:12Speaker 1: off to come home and help you plan your wedding
- 23:14Speaker 1: at the very last minute, leave her alone and it
- 23:18Speaker 1: might just be like a personal gripe because like I
- 23:20Speaker 1: hear it a lot too. But like, and that's why,
- 23:23Speaker 1: Like when I'm with my people, like with you or whatever,
- 23:26Speaker 1: like we can just be on our phones and it's
- 23:27Speaker 1: not like a thing. But like when we're around family
- 23:30Speaker 1: and they're like, you're always on your phone, Like this
- 23:32Speaker 1: is how I conduct business. Hey, I said, so tired
- 23:36Speaker 1: of the look up from your phone? Bs m h. Yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 1: here's the other thing I wished for. There was zero
- 23:42Speaker 1: chemistry between Mac and Dylan. Zero. Yeah. I found them
- 23:47Speaker 1: likable as like, oh, high school buddies who come together
- 23:51Speaker 1: to help make this wedding happen for their friends, and oh,
- 23:54Speaker 1: she can appreciate him for what he's done for her dad.
- 23:59Speaker 1: We're never going to get the Hallmark movie that allows
- 24:01Speaker 1: us to acknowledge friendship love is a valuable, happy ending, right,
- 24:06Speaker 1: But I'm gonna continue to hope for it because that
- 24:08Speaker 1: would have been a nice ending. Here. I just thought, like,
- 24:11Speaker 1: what does he see in her? She's so she never
- 24:15Speaker 1: has a redemption until the last second. I mean, it
- 24:18Speaker 1: is like the last five minutes, she makes this beautiful
- 24:22Speaker 1: thing happen, but she's awful over and over and over again.
- 24:28Speaker 1: It's not even when she's standing in the bridle salm
- 24:30Speaker 1: with her friend forcing her to try on these hideous
- 24:32Speaker 1: dresses and trying to tar dress. That sounds like get
- 24:36Speaker 1: the f out, Like if you and me were at
- 24:39Speaker 1: a bridle salon and you're like, yeah, you need to
- 24:40Speaker 1: wear this dress. You are not a friend. No, she
- 24:43Speaker 1: came out in a dress that she loved. That's that's
- 24:45Speaker 1: it the end, not like, oh kid, you please let
- 24:48Speaker 1: me take a picture and post it. And that moment
- 24:50Speaker 1: with the dresses was the only one that kind of
- 24:53Speaker 1: tied in with her marketing job, because it's like, oh,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I can be like a faux influencer if I get
- 24:58Speaker 1: her into this dress. Right. Didn't make sense with the
- 25:01Speaker 1: DJ didn't make sense with any of the other stuff
- 25:03Speaker 1: that happened. Are you ready for digit see that? I am?
- 25:05Speaker 1: And if some of it is did you see that?
- 25:07Speaker 1: And some of it's just complaints? Okay, So is that
- 25:11Speaker 1: actually a pot pie? Is that the saddest dinner you've
- 25:13Speaker 1: ever seen? White? Beige, beige, beige, there was nothing else
- 25:18Speaker 1: on the plate. Everyone had a slice of beige pie
- 25:20Speaker 1: on their plate. There was no salad or fruit or nothing,
- 25:24Speaker 1: a roll, nothing. No, I mean, what do you serve
- 25:27Speaker 1: with pot pie? It is kind of like a meat
- 25:29Speaker 1: because it has it's like a vegetables, a vegetable and
- 25:32Speaker 1: it's a protein. So I guess I don't know what
- 25:34Speaker 1: you serve with pot pie, but maybe put it on
- 25:36Speaker 1: a not white plate. They were just on these like
- 25:38Speaker 1: solid plates with this sad piece of pie. Put them
- 25:42Speaker 1: on a smaller plate. I don't know, but it it
- 25:45Speaker 1: looked like a very sad dinner. I actually don't remember
- 25:49Speaker 1: looking at the pot pie, but I remember the scene
- 25:51Speaker 1: because I was like, pop pie sounds good. I know
- 25:53Speaker 1: I do. I would eat a pot pie right now,
- 25:57Speaker 1: but the food styling left something to be desired in
- 26:01Speaker 1: that scene. Okay, this was happened at the very beginning.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Mac and her friend they leave New York. I don't
- 26:08Speaker 1: know if they run in the car or what, but
- 26:10Speaker 1: they get in the car. I guess I wish you
- 26:12Speaker 1: guys could see us, right. I felt like a video game.
- 26:14Speaker 1: They're like, she pulls into traffic, but she doesn't even
- 26:19Speaker 1: like look over her shoulder or look at a mirror
- 26:21Speaker 1: or anything.
- 26:22Speaker 2: It just went like, you know, it's like digital screen
- 26:27Speaker 2: and you're a terrible actress if you can't do something
- 26:30Speaker 2: that you probably do in a car all day long.
- 26:34Speaker 1: It should be like a muscle memory. At this point,
- 26:37Speaker 1: you're gonna look over your left shoulder to see if
- 26:39Speaker 1: there's traffic coming before you pull onto a New York
- 26:42Speaker 1: City street. God, I can't stand these movies sometimes. So
- 26:49Speaker 1: they have their bachelorette party campfire, yes, and then the
- 26:53Speaker 1: two friends get up to go get water to put
- 26:57Speaker 1: out the fire, yes, which is a guess by those
- 27:01Speaker 1: are not logs that are burning and is a gas tire.
- 27:05Speaker 1: It was so stupid. I was like, why wouldn't they
- 27:07Speaker 1: just give them another excuse to get up so they
- 27:10Speaker 1: could like talk a lottly like oh, we're gonna go
- 27:12Speaker 1: get more drinks or we're gonna go like we need
- 27:15Speaker 1: more marshmallows, or speaking of marshmallows, you do not play
- 27:19Speaker 1: have I never have I ever whatever with the marshmallows.
- 27:22Speaker 1: It's the saddest like get together ever. Like I'm not
- 27:25Speaker 1: saying like get ham sandwich on shots, but like it's
- 27:30Speaker 1: supposed to be a Bachelorette like send off, like make it.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Can they not do booze on TV? They know they can't.
- 27:39Speaker 1: They should have had them drinking homework wine and like
- 27:43Speaker 1: eating marshmallows. Oh my god, I would just imagine how
- 27:48Speaker 1: terrible you would feel. And then they moved. They're like,
- 27:50Speaker 1: we gotta move to some mors for this one. I know.
- 27:53Speaker 1: She's like, this is the seventh more I've eaten. And
- 27:55Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, I'd be like sick
- 27:57Speaker 1: as a dog on the ground. No, thank you. I
- 28:01Speaker 1: That whole scene was like so sad. And then I
- 28:03Speaker 1: was like, oh, are those two chicks in the wedding tube. Nope,
- 28:05Speaker 1: they weren't. They weren't. They weren't like bridesmaids or anything. Okay,
- 28:09Speaker 1: But then they go to the bar and meet up
- 28:10Speaker 1: with the dudes and Olivia is dancing with her fiance,
- 28:14Speaker 1: Mac and Dylan are dancing, and then in the background
- 28:18Speaker 1: the two friends are like dancing together. Did you see
- 28:21Speaker 1: They're like dancing like one spin the other. That's just
- 28:25Speaker 1: like sad. Totally. Picture being in that moment where you
- 28:28Speaker 1: like show up at the bar with your friends and
- 28:30Speaker 1: like two of them have dates and like you and
- 28:32Speaker 1: your other friend are like, all right, I okay maybe,
- 28:35Speaker 1: but like also it's a bachelorette party, like they couldn't
- 28:39Speaker 1: like find some dudes to dance without a bar. Okay.
- 28:43Speaker 1: There was the word foreclosure stamped on an alma. You guys,
- 28:51Speaker 1: if you get a foreclosure letter, it's from the bank
- 28:54Speaker 1: and it's gonna be in a bank envelope or their
- 28:56Speaker 1: mortgage or whatever urgent. Yeah, it's like I'm sure. Oh,
- 29:02Speaker 1: and here's the other thing, Like she was supposedly not
- 29:06Speaker 1: supposed to have been home in ten years. Ten years,
- 29:09Speaker 1: you're not gonna go see your dad. You live, it's
- 29:11Speaker 1: not that far away in ten years since her mom died.
- 29:13Speaker 1: They make some Yeah, they make some sort of like
- 29:15Speaker 1: statement like that, so her dad has been coming to
- 29:18Speaker 1: New York. Not a chance she hasn't seen her dad
- 29:20Speaker 1: in ten years. No, come on, her dad who runs
- 29:22Speaker 1: a farm and definitely can't get away right like apparently
- 29:25Speaker 1: by himself plus Dylan. Another thing is they would take
- 29:30Speaker 1: these aerial shots of the farm. Uh huh. I didn't
- 29:32Speaker 1: see any trees. It just looked like flat, Like I
- 29:35Speaker 1: don't understand. It's not a farm that you get maple
- 29:39Speaker 1: syrup from. Maybe I don't know forest of maple forest.
- 29:44Speaker 1: I have no idea. The only thing I know about
- 29:46Speaker 1: maple syrup is I watched Winter House, which is on
- 29:49Speaker 1: Bravo and Luke. If you guys watched Summerhouse, you guys
- 29:53Speaker 1: know who Luke is. He taps this tree and that's
- 29:56Speaker 1: the first time I've ever seen like, I didn't know
- 29:59Speaker 1: that's how you got maple syrup. No freaking idea. I
- 30:01Speaker 1: had no idea, so it felt fake when they were
- 30:06Speaker 1: doing it in this movie based on what I saw.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Winter's tapping an oak tree. Yeah, and I don't even
- 30:12Speaker 1: know if they were tapping a maple tree and syrup
- 30:16Speaker 1: come out, I don't remember. I have no idea. Does
- 30:19Speaker 1: it just like pour out into those like jugs that
- 30:21Speaker 1: they have hanging there? Well, I get the impression that
- 30:23Speaker 1: it comes out slowly because they like hang them and
- 30:25Speaker 1: walk away. Mm hmm. I don't. I don't know my
- 30:28Speaker 1: maple syrup harvesting knowledge. I like it, I don't know
- 30:32Speaker 1: anything about it. So multiple times they take totes of
- 30:36Speaker 1: items and drop them off at the at the church.
- 30:39Speaker 1: It was like one point in the beginning where they
- 30:41Speaker 1: drop off like some really hideous fell flowers. Yes, yes, yes,
- 30:44Speaker 1: And then there's a later point where Dylan and Olivia's
- 30:49Speaker 1: fiance whose name I forget Sean is it Shane? I
- 30:52Speaker 1: don't remember, are dropping off items at the church. It's
- 30:55Speaker 1: the most random collection of shit in those totes. Someone's like,
- 30:57Speaker 1: bring me a tote from your garage so we can
- 30:59Speaker 1: carry some shit to the church. What are you bringing
- 31:01Speaker 1: here to decorate? It's like these half full. It doesn't
- 31:05Speaker 1: even it doesn't even make sense, like bring table linens
- 31:08Speaker 1: or napkins or vases or candles or something that's not
- 31:12Speaker 1: like random shit in the box. Is that where they
- 31:14Speaker 1: were having the reception at too? At the church did
- 31:16Speaker 1: seem that way? But I don't know, I don't I
- 31:18Speaker 1: don't know. Yeah, because the DJ thrashed it. Okay. That's
- 31:22Speaker 1: my other question is like I didn't really understand why
- 31:26Speaker 1: was the DJ at the church and holding a rave
- 31:29Speaker 1: because his deal was that like this was his how
- 31:34Speaker 1: he was going to promote, So this is what he goes.
- 31:38Speaker 1: This is something about like this is how I'll do
- 31:41Speaker 1: it for free. I can have this other party. Excuse me.
- 31:44Speaker 1: First of all, no DJ is playing a wedding for exposure,
- 31:48Speaker 1: especially not a celebrity DJ. And second of all, no
- 31:51Speaker 1: DJ is now playing a second pre party as his
- 31:55Speaker 1: quote payment for that free exposure. What like, please hire
- 32:01Speaker 1: somebody who has any clue what's happening. My gosh, I
- 32:04Speaker 1: will consult for free. I'm so stupid. I have very
- 32:09Speaker 1: little understanding of how the celebrity world works. But I
- 32:11Speaker 1: can talk to you about influencers and who's doing stuff
- 32:14Speaker 1: for free and who's not. I just I did not
- 32:17Speaker 1: understand that at all. And she was so upset that
- 32:19Speaker 1: they like deface the tree or what did they even do?
- 32:23Speaker 1: They like put a heart around it? Yeah, something, I
- 32:26Speaker 1: don't know. They weren't pissing on it, Like I don't
- 32:28Speaker 1: want to selfie in front of it. I don't know.
- 32:30Speaker 1: You carved your initials in front of a tree. You
- 32:32Speaker 1: don't own it anything. Anybody could come along and do
- 32:35Speaker 1: something to it. It's not in your backyard in a
- 32:38Speaker 1: public place. Look, I really think we need to become
- 32:41Speaker 1: script supervisors for Hallmark and tell them when this doesn't
- 32:45Speaker 1: make any sense. Yeah, here's the last thing I have
- 32:48Speaker 1: to say. Mac confronts Dylan right and basically accuses him
- 32:56Speaker 1: of like running her dad's business into the ground. And
- 33:00Speaker 1: he's like, no, I think you misunderstand it. And she
- 33:03Speaker 1: was like huffs and puffs and walks away, and I
- 33:06Speaker 1: was like, and he still loves her at the end,
- 33:09Speaker 1: like that's a huge accusa. This guy's shouldering the mortgage
- 33:13Speaker 1: of the farm. And she was like, you're running my
- 33:17Speaker 1: dad's farm into the ground. Uh. Yeah, she sucked. Also,
- 33:23Speaker 1: if you have a minor heart attack, you just have
- 33:25Speaker 1: a doctor come give you a house call and say like, yeah,
- 33:27Speaker 1: had a heart attack, stay in bed. Yeah. I didn't
- 33:30Speaker 1: understand that either. The doctor diagnosed a heart attack from home,
- 33:33Speaker 1: Like don't they need some sort of angiogram or EKG
- 33:36Speaker 1: or something. I don't know, he's got medicine, just relax. Yeah, weird.
- 33:43Speaker 1: So do you think she is she gonna now stay
- 33:46Speaker 1: in that town and do what exactly? Did she say
- 33:50Speaker 1: what she was gonna do? She canna become a maple influencer,
- 33:54Speaker 1: turn her marketing. I was so glad this movie was over.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, what is really funny is
- 33:59Speaker 1: like in the kitchen getting something and then I heard
- 34:01Speaker 1: that they're rolling the credits and I'm like, shuld I
- 34:04Speaker 1: miss it? I can rewind it. I was like I
- 34:07Speaker 1: don't know what happened this movie. Also, did you notice
- 34:10Speaker 1: that weird bowling they were doing? No, I didn't. They
- 34:14Speaker 1: were bowling with they were holding your hand like like
- 34:17Speaker 1: botchy balls. Well I looked up. Either they were either
- 34:20Speaker 1: playing duckpin or candlepin. Both are played with much smaller balls.
- 34:24Speaker 1: They have no holes in them. You hold them, yes,
- 34:26Speaker 1: similar to baudi ball you roll it. I've never seen
- 34:29Speaker 1: that in that like finger holes. Yeah, I've never seen No,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I didn't really notice that. I got one more last last?
- 34:34Speaker 1: Did you see that? And you are going to be
- 34:35Speaker 1: the only one who can appreciate it. They get to
- 34:38Speaker 1: town and the first thing that they want to do
- 34:40Speaker 1: is go drink a huge, giant ass chocolate milkshake. And
- 34:43Speaker 1: I was like, oh god, Megan and I we would
- 34:47Speaker 1: not be able to do anything after that. And I'm
- 34:52Speaker 1: watching them drink it, I'm just like, oh, need to
- 34:55Speaker 1: separate hotel room off. I know. Whenever they do that,
- 35:04Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, that's so sad. Okay, guys, hey, this
- 35:08Speaker 1: is just the beginning. No, we got to rate it
- 35:10Speaker 1: shit in my new rating system. Well, I'm not changing
- 35:15Speaker 1: my rating. I'm not. I'm not either. Well Okay, I
