- 0:01Speaker 1: Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday.
- 0:11Speaker 1: The morning day has hashed, he surprised me last I'm
- 0:15Speaker 1: saying all this day, how what happened? Well, I can't
- 0:20Speaker 1: feel a word in edgewise. Is my singing? Is that way?
- 0:27Speaker 1: I had a Really I was not Did you wake
- 0:29Speaker 1: up and take a bath? Oh my god, I wasn't expecting.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Did you have a great laugh. I gotta get organized
- 0:38Speaker 1: now because I had so much to talk and you drive.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I hope you don't crash. Happy birthday, Zach birth Happy
- 0:44Speaker 1: birthday to you, Happy birthday, Happy birthday. What you didn't
- 0:53Speaker 1: like that? It was about it was about thirty minutes
- 0:57Speaker 1: too long. And I was all excited. I had all
- 1:00Speaker 1: my papers and my buttons ready, and and then I
- 1:04Speaker 1: had a computer problem. So I'm Amanda Clutes. My best
- 1:09Speaker 1: buddy took me to a Paul Simon tribute concert last night.
- 1:14Speaker 1: That's gonna air. The Grammy's honored Paul Simon, and they
- 1:18Speaker 1: threw this thing where like performers of all different levels
- 1:23Speaker 1: of notoriety performed up to Stevie wonder As like the
- 1:28Speaker 1: Grand Finale. But Dave Matthews, I mean, it was incredible
- 1:31Speaker 1: it's going to air on CBS. Um. But and then
- 1:34Speaker 1: Paul Simon got up at the end and played and
- 1:36Speaker 1: it was amazing. But before that, she goes, um, first,
- 1:40Speaker 1: we're going to dinner, and we're gonna go to dinner
- 1:42Speaker 1: at the sushi places across the street from the theater.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Actually she didn't even tell me that. She goes and
- 1:46Speaker 1: taking you to dinner. So we go to Katsuya, which
- 1:49Speaker 1: is right across from the Pantagious and I go oh.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I was like the first surprise, like, oh, we're getting sushi. Cool,
- 1:55Speaker 1: cool cool. We walk in and you know, this restaurant
- 1:57Speaker 1: has these um these little room lit hidden rooms with
- 2:00Speaker 1: tables where the curtains can be closed. You can have
- 2:03Speaker 1: like a private chili, private dinner go on. And as
- 2:06Speaker 1: I walk in, it was like out of Annie. It
- 2:08Speaker 1: was like out of Annie. The you know in the
- 2:10Speaker 1: Annie movie how the staff is all lined up at
- 2:13Speaker 1: the welcoming Annie. Yes, it was a bit like that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And they spread a curtain to reveal Donald and Casey
- 2:22Speaker 1: already seated at the table. I think I'm gonna like it.
- 2:31Speaker 1: And then we saw the show and then um, did
- 2:36Speaker 1: you know what the grand finale surprise was Donald before
- 2:38Speaker 1: did I tell you or did you know? I knew already.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I knew that well a Manda knows. I'm obsessed with
- 2:43Speaker 1: Ben Platt um as a singer performer and uh we
- 2:48Speaker 1: got to talk about that memorium at the Grammys because
- 2:50Speaker 1: that was just unbelievable and um. But anyway, after the show,
- 2:55Speaker 1: she said, we have one final thing and we went
- 2:56Speaker 1: to get a drink and then we went to this
- 2:58Speaker 1: bar and our mutual friend Catherine Gallagher who's a Broadway star,
- 3:04Speaker 1: UM and Ben Platt were there waiting for us for
- 3:06Speaker 1: a drink. Oh my god, you have good friends. Ye
- 3:13Speaker 1: crushed it, dude, that's crushing. She got the birthday she
- 3:17Speaker 1: went all out. I went. I went from Donald Phazon
- 3:20Speaker 1: to Stevie Wonder to Ben Platt, well who else saying
- 3:23Speaker 1: at the Paul Simon thing other than Stevie Wonder? Um um.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Lots of country stars who are super famous whose names
- 3:29Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm apologized to country fans, but like
- 3:32Speaker 1: the biggest country stars Brooks, I'm saying, um, um, you
- 3:38Speaker 1: could probably google it due will you look it up?
- 3:40Speaker 1: And some of these names do you know this? Um? Uh?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Take six this Uh African American. Are you fucking kidding
- 3:47Speaker 1: me right now? Zach? What are you fucking kidding me
- 3:49Speaker 1: right now? Are you really asking me if I know
- 3:52Speaker 1: who takes six is all right? Well I'm telling you
- 3:53Speaker 1: take six? Oh my god, Oh my god, are you
- 3:55Speaker 1: really asking me if I know who takes six is
- 3:58Speaker 1: all right? Well? I didn't know that Takes six was
- 4:00Speaker 1: that famous. They sang some Paul Simon stuff and it
- 4:03Speaker 1: was one of the most beautiful things I ever heard
- 4:05Speaker 1: in my life. They sang from the Gracelin album. They
- 4:11Speaker 1: heard it takes six. Sorry, calm down, you know that
- 4:14Speaker 1: Zulu song it's in Graceland. It's like, uh, I don't.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I don't even want to. I want to try anyway.
- 4:19Speaker 1: There's a Zulu song that's on the Gracelan album that
- 4:22Speaker 1: starts one of the songs, and these guys rushed it.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It was the most beautiful, goose bumpy thing you'll see.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm giving these people an ad. You have to watch this. Um.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It was so beautiful. I wanted to see Take six
- 4:36Speaker 1: sing every pulse. So you can go back to when
- 4:38Speaker 1: we were in like the nineties and everything like that
- 4:41Speaker 1: and take Were they a boy been or were they
- 4:43Speaker 1: They were They were an acapella group of gospel acapella.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Gospel acapella group. Brian McKnight's brother is in Take six.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Brian McKnight. Ben became a very h He's a big
- 4:55Speaker 1: time R and B singer. You might have heard. He
- 4:58Speaker 1: has some of the greatest songs, My Last Cry, one
- 5:01Speaker 1: last cry before I leave Right anyway, Take six used
- 5:05Speaker 1: to sing back in the day like Take six has
- 5:08Speaker 1: been around forever. Take six was amazing. Um, Chris Stapleton
- 5:12Speaker 1: was there, Uh, Stevie wants in did a couple songs
- 5:17Speaker 1: with There was a young lady. I wish I could
- 5:20Speaker 1: dwell if you can find this, No, maybe it's not published.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I gotta ask Amanda if you know this, I'll text
- 5:28Speaker 1: her right now. Who's the young lady that sings? But
- 5:31Speaker 1: it was right on time because she performed at that
- 5:37Speaker 1: thing too. But anyway, let's talk for a second about
- 5:39Speaker 1: the Grammys memorium. Did you guys see this? It was amazing.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You did not watch the Grammys? It was there was
- 5:46Speaker 1: a memorial. So I'll let Zach tell the story. But
- 5:50Speaker 1: I feel like every year that's the thing that they
- 5:55Speaker 1: You know, sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad, but you
- 5:59Speaker 1: always want to do a great dedication to the people
- 6:01Speaker 1: who passed away. And they really figured it out this year.
- 6:03Speaker 1: At the Grammys they had four Broadway stars. Um, I
- 6:07Speaker 1: guess Rachel's well, not just not just Broadway stars, like
- 6:11Speaker 1: just triple threats, also dancers, actors like no. But I'm saying, okay,
- 6:16Speaker 1: so Brad, Brandy Carlyle, Brad, Yeah, Brandy Carlisle, I'm saying
- 6:20Speaker 1: they were at the they performed last night. I know
- 6:22Speaker 1: That's what I was gonna say. Brandy Carlisle was at
- 6:23Speaker 1: the Paul Simon, Brad Paisley did a couple of songs.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Garth Brooks, Um, Brandy Carlile is the want to sing right?
- 6:31Speaker 1: What's Brooks's time of wife or girlfriend's name? She's a
- 6:35Speaker 1: famous country singer. She performed with him. Um, I apologize
- 6:40Speaker 1: to the country loving community. I don't know this music
- 6:43Speaker 1: at all, but they were. They sang beautifully. Did came
- 6:45Speaker 1: Brown perform with him? Yearwood? Yea, Trisha Yearwood. Trisha Yearwood. Yes, Um,
- 6:51Speaker 1: she excuse me, she could sing. They both were. It
- 6:55Speaker 1: was amazing. You know what's funny is they would Garth
- 6:57Speaker 1: was amazing because it was taped. They would occasionally all
- 6:59Speaker 1: fuck up and Garth Brooks stops and he goes, what
- 7:01Speaker 1: did I tell you? Baby? I told you if we
- 7:04Speaker 1: just stopped singing, if we mess up, they can't use it.
- 7:06Speaker 1: So we're gonna start over. It's really funny and uh
- 7:11Speaker 1: and then O. Then then he was the first person
- 7:15Speaker 1: to do that, like on his own. But then other
- 7:17Speaker 1: times someone would perform would be amazing. It would be
- 7:19Speaker 1: like it would be like Stevie Wonder doing a number
- 7:22Speaker 1: that with this with this singer whose name I'm getting
- 7:24Speaker 1: a man that attects me because I didn't know who
- 7:26Speaker 1: she is, but she had the most incredible voice. And
- 7:28Speaker 1: then they'd be like, hey, want to go again, and
- 7:31Speaker 1: Stevie's like, yeah, I hit a wrong note or something,
- 7:33Speaker 1: and and then you'd get to hear the song again.
- 7:35Speaker 1: It was like Take two it was so cool. Um,
- 7:38Speaker 1: but Take six, believe or not, with all these celebrities,
- 7:41Speaker 1: Take six was blew my mind the most. That's awesome
- 7:44Speaker 1: Take six And I'm so happy that you have been
- 7:47Speaker 1: introduced to Take six. You can go listen to some
- 7:49Speaker 1: Take six. You can find him on iTunes, I'm sure. Anyway,
- 7:52Speaker 1: So the Grammys did a memorium and all the idea.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It was a sort of sound him mash up. I
- 8:00Speaker 1: learned through Ben Platt, who was one of the four people.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It was him, Cynthia Arrivo, and Rachel Zegler, the star
- 8:08Speaker 1: of West Side Story. I'm Maria, who I believe is
- 8:10Speaker 1: the new snow White shouting right now. Anyway, the four
- 8:18Speaker 1: of them have preposterous voices. I learned that Leslie Odom
- 8:21Speaker 1: Junior's arranger is the one who arranged it, and it
- 8:24Speaker 1: was sort of this mashup of three famous Sondheim songs,
- 8:29Speaker 1: but it was so beautifully interwoven, right Donald, I was
- 8:35Speaker 1: like crying my eyes out. And and if you saw
- 8:38Speaker 1: West Side Story, you saw that they changed Spielberg changed
- 8:41Speaker 1: it up. And There's a Place for Us, which is
- 8:44Speaker 1: one of the most famous beautiful love songs duets in
- 8:48Speaker 1: the movie, was not sung by the couple, and that
- 8:53Speaker 1: was his choice, and it was beautiful still, but you
- 8:56Speaker 1: never got to hear Rachel's sing it. And in this
- 9:00Speaker 1: sort of beautiful memorium, she sang it with Leslie Odom
- 9:03Speaker 1: Junior and in man was it beautiful? You can probably
- 9:07Speaker 1: find it on the YouTube's I highly recommend it, but
- 9:10Speaker 1: Cynthia Revo singing send in the clown, Send in the clown.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I mean, Cynthia Revo sick voice. Come on, you know that?
- 9:19Speaker 1: Do you know that? When we when Nick died, Um,
- 9:22Speaker 1: I don't know if I told you the story, but
- 9:24Speaker 1: we had a little memorial in my garden, very small,
- 9:28Speaker 1: and Nick loved Cynthia Rivo loved the Color Purple, which
- 9:31Speaker 1: is what broke herd made her famous, the musical version
- 9:34Speaker 1: and which I know they were now making into a movie,
- 9:37Speaker 1: which I'm sure she'll start. And because she's I just
- 9:39Speaker 1: hope they put I just hope they put Quincy Jones's sister.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Of course they would have been that's not on the Broadway.
- 9:47Speaker 1: That's not on the Broadway show. But okay, okay, anyway,
- 9:50Speaker 1: Um she A man reached out to her because Nick
- 9:53Speaker 1: loved her so much, and she came and sang her
- 9:56Speaker 1: song from Color Purple in my Garden with like twenty people,
- 10:00Speaker 1: And I remember because the garden was in full bloom,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and she was like we were all picking cherry tomatoes
- 10:05Speaker 1: off the vine. And she's just the kind of sweetheart,
- 10:08Speaker 1: amazing person that would do that without even really knowing
- 10:11Speaker 1: Nick without even really knowing Amanda, And now I know
- 10:14Speaker 1: her a little bit and she's just an angel and
- 10:16Speaker 1: her voice is sickest, sickest, and Leslie's voice, Oh my god.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, all right, So I'm telling you if you
- 10:25Speaker 1: haven't seen that, go go find it on the youtubees.
- 10:27Speaker 1: It was beautiful. Should we get into the shows? Hey? No,
- 10:30Speaker 1: I have more to say. No, no, no, a movie
- 10:34Speaker 1: recommendation and now Donald's not gonna love this movie because
- 10:36Speaker 1: it doesn't have um lasers. But um, no one, no
- 10:42Speaker 1: one throws a spell. Um, it's it's cast, cast no one. Cast.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I was talking to my nephew, by the way, Daniel,
- 10:52Speaker 1: is it right if I give Henry your number? My nephew?
- 10:54Speaker 1: Because of course he asked, he's so into this fucking
- 10:58Speaker 1: get what is it? Elden Rain Jelden Oh, elden Ring Ring. Yes, baby,
- 11:04Speaker 1: And he says, I have no one to talk about
- 11:05Speaker 1: it with. Do you think that Daniel would mind if
- 11:07Speaker 1: I if I had his number? Can I ask a question,
- 11:10Speaker 1: Let's get is elden Ring worth the hype similar to Zelda? No?
- 11:21Speaker 1: I would say it's similar to Zelda. Is Zelda was
- 11:23Speaker 1: like really evil? If Zelda was super dark. The world
- 11:26Speaker 1: of Zelda was super dark and all the enemies were
- 11:29Speaker 1: wastecarier than it's like Zelda. But are you walking around?
- 11:32Speaker 1: Is it third is it overhead? Like Zelda? It is
- 11:34Speaker 1: a third person adventure game where you're walking around an
- 11:37Speaker 1: open world and it's really hard, apparently, right, really really
- 11:41Speaker 1: he said he tried to be the boss sixty five
- 11:43Speaker 1: times or something, and that's like, it's about right, do
- 11:47Speaker 1: you get more? So? But do you gain ep and
- 11:49Speaker 1: get weapons? Is that what happened towards it? Just this
- 11:52Speaker 1: is going to be the game for the whole game
- 11:54Speaker 1: a little bit. This is a longer This is a
- 11:57Speaker 1: longer conversation. I was trying to keep it shut, but
- 11:59Speaker 1: it is. It's a very popular game right now, right
- 12:01Speaker 1: super sounds probably twenty two probably, Okay. It's another game
- 12:07Speaker 1: that I think Donald would really like that. People are
- 12:10Speaker 1: talking about Lego Star Wars. Oh man, do you like that?
- 12:16Speaker 1: I hear it. I hear it looks amazing. I I
- 12:18Speaker 1: own it. I haven't had the chance to play it yet, Dani,
- 12:22Speaker 1: find some time, because it is incredible. It's amazing. It's
- 12:26Speaker 1: what makes it different than the other Lego games, Daniel,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I think I think more than anything, it really um.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It maintains the humor and the style of all the
- 12:36Speaker 1: other Legos Lego series of games. They have a great
- 12:38Speaker 1: job of like keeping the source material accurate, but also
- 12:41Speaker 1: adding a really nice sense of humor that you see
- 12:43Speaker 1: in like the Lego movies and whatnot that makes it
- 12:45Speaker 1: really fun and enjoyable. It's the smoothest game play, it's
- 12:48Speaker 1: the best looking graphics. It's just like a nice upgrade
- 12:51Speaker 1: to the whole Lego series, And like for anybody who's
- 12:53Speaker 1: played any of the Lego Star Wars games, it maintains
- 12:55Speaker 1: that character and delivers one hundred percent. So well, that's
- 12:58Speaker 1: a really good review. So those the two hot games
- 13:00Speaker 1: of the moment. Is that right down now? Will you
- 13:03Speaker 1: be twitching either one of those? You twitch elden Ring.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I do twitch elden Ring, and I get very mad
- 13:08Speaker 1: at it because it's very difficult. I saw that you
- 13:11Speaker 1: dumb it down? Can you turn it down a little
- 13:13Speaker 1: bit difficult? I saw that Sasha Gray um twitches it
- 13:19Speaker 1: and um, so you have some competition there, but a
- 13:21Speaker 1: lot of people would rather watch Sasha Gray play no
- 13:24Speaker 1: offense than they most certainly would know. She's very good.
- 13:27Speaker 1: She's very very good. Yeah, because she's a good player,
- 13:29Speaker 1: or she just she's good. She's good. Oh, she's a
- 13:34Speaker 1: good player. Yeah, she's a really good player. And she's
- 13:35Speaker 1: good cook too. She also cooks. Yeah, her stream is
- 13:39Speaker 1: top shelf. Ok here, you might not want to tell
- 13:41Speaker 1: people how often you watch. All right, let's get in
- 13:44Speaker 1: the show. Five six stories about show we made about stories. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 1: m all right, let's get the show. I know what
- 14:11Speaker 1: I wanted to say before last thing before we get
- 14:13Speaker 1: in the show. Your movie movies, not my movie. This
- 14:16Speaker 1: movie that I really really liked. Highly recommend it one
- 14:19Speaker 1: best foreign film I believe. Um. I finally saw it.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Um The Worst Person in the World. Oh, okay, I
- 14:27Speaker 1: highly recommend you watch this if you like reading. No,
- 14:32Speaker 1: it does have subtitles, but come on, you all loved um.
- 14:35Speaker 1: You all loved um. Squid Game. I don't watched squid Gaming.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Had to read? Oh I really think I think you
- 14:45Speaker 1: had to read. Okay, Well, if you can handle subtitles,
- 14:48Speaker 1: if you like squid Game, if you liked Parasite, what
- 14:51Speaker 1: was that that popular Korean movie? Par okay to read? Yeah,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I didn't like it. Okay, Well, if you're unlike Donald,
- 14:59Speaker 1: then can handle some subtitles. I think, um, I'm just
- 15:02Speaker 1: won in the World is one of the best movies
- 15:04Speaker 1: I've seen in a very long and if you like
- 15:06Speaker 1: similar movies like like I'm like UM, I guarantee you'll
- 15:11Speaker 1: love it. There's some incredible acting and I like to read.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I've seen a Kira several times. Okay, is they're reading
- 15:18Speaker 1: in Akira? Okay? By the way, I want to debut
- 15:22Speaker 1: a new sound effect that we have. No no, this
- 15:27Speaker 1: is um straight hut off the presses, Daniel, I need
- 15:30Speaker 1: your help in figuring out how to get this into
- 15:33Speaker 1: my system. No problem, but for now, here's a test.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Everybody likes a little ass play. Don't even act like
- 15:39Speaker 1: you don't you know? That's a good one. That's how
- 15:50Speaker 1: we're going to introduce guests from now. Do you look
- 15:53Speaker 1: at the email I tell you don this guy Donald
- 15:55Speaker 1: and I did a did a charity. Jake Tapper does
- 15:59Speaker 1: this tell you guys about But I'd let him No,
- 16:03Speaker 1: no, no no, no, no, you tell the whole story because
- 16:05Speaker 1: it's worth it. Jake Tapper, the news anchor on CNN,
- 16:09Speaker 1: does this amazing charity where he raises money for wounded
- 16:12Speaker 1: warriors and auctions off anything and everything from celebrities, including
- 16:16Speaker 1: a half hour zoom. So we auctioned off a half
- 16:19Speaker 1: hour m for for wounded warriors of just shooting the
- 16:23Speaker 1: ship with Donald and I. And this guy was very
- 16:26Speaker 1: interesting and he's very smart, and he's a developer up
- 16:28Speaker 1: in Seattle, and he and he was he was talking
- 16:33Speaker 1: about all the dating apps, and he had done a
- 16:36Speaker 1: lot of research and saying and in determining whether he
- 16:41Speaker 1: was getting less results because of the color of his
- 16:44Speaker 1: skin and um, and so to try and do an experiment,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and he knew a lot of game developers and he
- 16:51Speaker 1: knew a lot of people to do an experiment, he
- 16:55Speaker 1: asked his game video game developer friends to make himself white,
- 17:02Speaker 1: like reverse soul. Yeah, like reverse soul man. And and
- 17:06Speaker 1: then he's planned, I got this. I'm gonna show you
- 17:08Speaker 1: guys that're gonna hold up my phone so you can
- 17:09Speaker 1: see the picture. His plan, his plan was to um,
- 17:15Speaker 1: was to to to just you would, you know, kind
- 17:18Speaker 1: of do an experiment and see if he got better
- 17:20Speaker 1: results as a as a white male UM. But then
- 17:24Speaker 1: the results came back in and he said they need
- 17:27Speaker 1: his friends need to go back to the drawing board
- 17:30Speaker 1: because oh no, he made an ugly white male he said, yeah,
- 17:36Speaker 1: he said he was very handsomer. Uh um whatever and
- 17:43Speaker 1: uh and and his video game development friends didn't really
- 17:47Speaker 1: nail it. I'm trying to he's bald. Guys so automatically,
- 17:52Speaker 1: like black man can usually pull off bald or clothes
- 17:55Speaker 1: much better. Uh So it doesn't feel right. It was
- 18:00Speaker 1: just funny. And then Donald and I came up with
- 18:02Speaker 1: a whole movie idea where it's like, what was it
- 18:04Speaker 1: I'm trying to We took his whole thing. We were like,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I'm newly single and in the dating world, Yeah, I'm
- 18:11Speaker 1: having a hard time getting dates right. And it's a
- 18:13Speaker 1: little bit like Tutsie. It's a little bit of like
- 18:15Speaker 1: full little Tutsie in where so you know, because remember
- 18:17Speaker 1: in Tutsie he had a makeup artist genius prosthetic makeup
- 18:21Speaker 1: artist friend. So if this guy's got video game developer friends, right,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and he realizes that he's not getting the hits he wants,
- 18:29Speaker 1: so he tries this experiment, but then he meets a
- 18:32Speaker 1: woman who thinks he's this white guy and how it's
- 18:36Speaker 1: like in the metaverse because this guy, that's what this
- 18:38Speaker 1: guy did. He did like, oh yeah. Then then then
- 18:41Speaker 1: Donald added the pitch that we're giving the best pitch away.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Don't you fucking steal our movie idea? Right? But anyway, Yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 1: then Donald folded in the idea of the metaverse, and
- 18:50Speaker 1: I don't know, we got really excited for a second
- 18:52Speaker 1: that we had a genius movie idea. I'm really excited
- 18:55Speaker 1: for you. It's like, face off me. I want to
- 18:59Speaker 1: take his face. It's like reverse soul Man. Then, but
- 19:03Speaker 1: I don't think I don't think it. Reverse soul Man
- 19:07Speaker 1: is the best Donald to say it. Donald and I
- 19:10Speaker 1: were talking about how incredibly fucked up the movie soul
- 19:12Speaker 1: Man is. Do you guys remember that movie? Joel, do
- 19:14Speaker 1: you remember soul Man? I soul Man a very long
- 19:17Speaker 1: time ago, and I don't really remember it well. In
- 19:20Speaker 1: the movie the White Guy, who was it? Donald, I
- 19:23Speaker 1: think it's the dude from fucking et to one that's
- 19:25Speaker 1: like we made it and read Dawn. Yes. C Thomas Howell.
- 19:30Speaker 1: C Thomas Howell wants to get into college, but they
- 19:33Speaker 1: have affirmative action and there's and and he can't get in,
- 19:35Speaker 1: so he takes tanning pills. Tanning pills to turn him
- 19:42Speaker 1: into a black man. Google Google image is horrifying. Yes,
- 19:46Speaker 1: if you're listening right now, I need you to get
- 19:48Speaker 1: Google soul c Thomas Howell soul Man black face and
- 19:54Speaker 1: they mean a whole movie. What year is it, Joel.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I can't believe it. Eighties. It's so cringey. It's so crazy. Yes,
- 20:02Speaker 1: and it was totally acceptable. And yeah, Masses as a
- 20:08Speaker 1: black man. I remember being on HBO and all of
- 20:11Speaker 1: that ship. I remember all this. I remember, I remember
- 20:15Speaker 1: soul Man ray Don Chong. I remember ray Don Chong
- 20:18Speaker 1: was in it, and she falls in love with him
- 20:20Speaker 1: until she realizes that he's taking tang pills and isn't
- 20:22Speaker 1: really an African American. H God, the Great James Earl
- 20:27Speaker 1: Jones and Leslie Nielsen are in this movie. How did
- 20:30Speaker 1: this happen? Yeah? I don't know. All right, let's get
- 20:33Speaker 1: into the show showey. I just have to tell you
- 20:37Speaker 1: this episode was crazy. This was like Bill trying to
- 20:39Speaker 1: be all in the family because this got really political.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Um it's a very red and blue episode. We're talking
- 20:45Speaker 1: about his story. Uh two um. Directed by Linda Mendoza.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Great job, by the way, Linda, great job. One of
- 20:54Speaker 1: our favorite filmmakers who directed the show, and um mikey
- 21:00Speaker 1: Wet stars and our old friend Michael Weston who when
- 21:03Speaker 1: I first Michael Weston, I met on a movie called
- 21:05Speaker 1: Getting to Know You. It was my first real part
- 21:10Speaker 1: in a movie. It was a tiny little indie and
- 21:13Speaker 1: he had actually gone to Northwestern coincidentally, but we didn't
- 21:15Speaker 1: know each other. And um, as all the finest actors
- 21:19Speaker 1: have and um and and we became friends if you
- 21:23Speaker 1: remember in Garden State's he plays the cop that pulls
- 21:25Speaker 1: me over and and on my motorcycle and um and
- 21:30Speaker 1: and then we were when I moved out to La
- 21:32Speaker 1: we were roommates, um um in a house together. Anyway.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Um So, Michael Weston guest stars as a private dancer.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Why is a private dancer in a veterans hospital? Was
- 21:43Speaker 1: my first question. This is scrubs, man. We have we
- 21:48Speaker 1: have a bunch of different people in the hospital. We
- 21:51Speaker 1: break the rules something how how to the todd occasionally
- 21:55Speaker 1: does breast augmentation when when he wouldn't be doing that? Right? Okay,
- 21:59Speaker 1: well we got we've got a wounded soldier in our hospital. Yes,
- 22:03Speaker 1: at the first bed too. I don't know why I
- 22:06Speaker 1: don't know why, but that's all right. Scrubs the TV show,
- 22:09Speaker 1: So yeah, I couldn't help but think of All in
- 22:11Speaker 1: the Family while watching this, because All in the Family,
- 22:13Speaker 1: for those of you too young to know, was a
- 22:16Speaker 1: comedy that like really brazenly took on politics and all
- 22:20Speaker 1: the issues of the time, Racism, Democrats, first Republicans, the wars,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and Archie Bunker was this crotchety, very conservative old white
- 22:31Speaker 1: man and his son in law was a very liberal
- 22:34Speaker 1: played by Rob Ryner. He called him Meathead, and he
- 22:37Speaker 1: was as liberal as can be. He was a hippie
- 22:40Speaker 1: at the time of the show. And anyway, when I
- 22:44Speaker 1: was watching this Scrubs all of a sudden getting very
- 22:46Speaker 1: political about the Iraq War, I couldn't help but think
- 22:49Speaker 1: that this was like, I don't know, Bill trying to
- 22:52Speaker 1: have a sort of All in the Family episode where
- 22:55Speaker 1: we actually went there politically about the war, about the
- 22:58Speaker 1: Iraq War. No, yeah, absolutely, but that's it's also the
- 23:01Speaker 1: B storyline two, which is which is it's the it?
- 23:06Speaker 1: I know it takes place. What do you think the
- 23:08Speaker 1: storyline A story is Kelso is Kelso, Yeah, that's actually
- 23:14Speaker 1: the A storyline. So the backdrop in all of this
- 23:17Speaker 1: is that you know, he he he feels that he's
- 23:21Speaker 1: obsolete in the hospital and he's witnessing you know what
- 23:27Speaker 1: this uh, what Private Dancer is bringing to the hospital
- 23:30Speaker 1: because he's a he's a veteran from the Iraq War.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And it reveals, it reveals so much, reveals Elliot's a Republican,
- 23:38Speaker 1: it reveals you know, I mean, there's there's there's there's
- 23:42Speaker 1: so much involved in it. But the a storyline is
- 23:45Speaker 1: Kelso feels like the hospital's falling apart because of what
- 23:49Speaker 1: he's witnessing, and actually it's not. Everybody's still able to
- 23:52Speaker 1: do their jobs. It's a really good it's a really
- 23:56Speaker 1: good uh theme if you think about it, Like we
- 23:59Speaker 1: we as Americans right now, we freaking go at it
- 24:03Speaker 1: with each other just over our belief and stuff like that,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and sometimes it makes it so that we can't get
- 24:13Speaker 1: the job done. And this was a great example of
- 24:15Speaker 1: a hospital being in a situation where everybody has different beliefs,
- 24:21Speaker 1: but they still are able to accomplish their one common
- 24:24Speaker 1: goal and that is to say, well until it until
- 24:28Speaker 1: it takes over the hospital. And if to remind people,
- 24:31Speaker 1: this is the one where Kelso has the voice over.
- 24:33Speaker 1: It's one of those ones where I'm not in it
- 24:36Speaker 1: that much. I bump into Kelso and he takes the
- 24:38Speaker 1: voice over over, and then you're on vacation pretty much
- 24:41Speaker 1: for the rest of the episode. Well, I was in
- 24:44Speaker 1: the park reading Iraq War for Dummies. Yeah, by the way,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I will get to it. But the janitor predicted where
- 24:51Speaker 1: bin Laden was. Yeah, sorry spoilers, but this is long
- 24:56Speaker 1: before we found bin Laden. And the episode ends with
- 24:58Speaker 1: the janitor saying, been latins in Pakistan? Yeah, so don't
- 25:04Speaker 1: I don't think we weren't geniuses. Wow, we were ahead
- 25:09Speaker 1: of the game. Yeah, Well, whoever wrote that line was?
- 25:11Speaker 1: I wonder which writer wrote that line. Um Joel wanted
- 25:15Speaker 1: to point out that UM calling your calling, um Joel,
- 25:21Speaker 1: is this am I correcting your interpretation? That calling Carla
- 25:25Speaker 1: pickle so that I can be able to call the
- 25:28Speaker 1: baby little girkin doesn't make sense because ghirkins are made
- 25:32Speaker 1: from baby cucumbers. Nobody doesn't make sense. I just had
- 25:35Speaker 1: no idea what a gherkin was. What's a pickle? Is
- 25:39Speaker 1: a pickle related to a cucumber? Yeah? I think it
- 25:42Speaker 1: was a full blown cucumber. That's just been soaked in vinegar. Okay, okay,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I thought you were saying that a pickle wasn't a cucumber. No,
- 25:50Speaker 1: just that I like girkins. Do you guys like ghirkins?
- 25:53Speaker 1: I love you. Don't like pickles at all? Period. Don't
- 25:58Speaker 1: show me a pickle. I And which weird is I
- 26:01Speaker 1: like some pickled vegetables like I love a pickled carrot,
- 26:05Speaker 1: pickled cabbage, pickled cabbage, Like I like a kim chi
- 26:10Speaker 1: that's fermented. Yeah, I like I like it, I like
- 26:13Speaker 1: it more or less the same thing. Well, yeah, I
- 26:16Speaker 1: guess so, I guess so. Yeah, I guess you could
- 26:19Speaker 1: the many carrots in the bagkins like that for a pickle. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 1: I like that. Yeah, someone should make um a bag
- 26:27Speaker 1: of those things. My good idea today. That's a great
- 26:31Speaker 1: little snack with a little dip too, a little nice
- 26:34Speaker 1: little dip. My reverse soul man, just giving it to
- 26:38Speaker 1: the world. Reverse soul man. There's so many things to
- 26:47Speaker 1: unpack with reverse soul man. Um, well, kelso black man
- 26:51Speaker 1: who tries to be white reverse soul man. Well, anyway,
- 26:57Speaker 1: he didn't could never do it funnier than any un Saturday. No,
- 27:00Speaker 1: that's that's that's probably the best version of it. So
- 27:04Speaker 1: Kelso doesn't want to he's phoning it in. He doesn't
- 27:07Speaker 1: learn the interns names. He says, the man will be
- 27:09Speaker 1: Debbie Dave and the woman will be Debbie, and the
- 27:12Speaker 1: girl's young woman says, well, that's gonna be my name
- 27:14Speaker 1: is Debbie. He goes, well, then you shall be Slagathor.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Slagathor is actually slag of Thor's played by Lindsay Ravage.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Her husband is Andy Schwartz, who was a writer on
- 27:24Speaker 1: the show. Yes, they have a son named Quincy, who
- 27:28Speaker 1: went to Sunnyside with my daughter Wilder. Actually, so you've
- 27:32Speaker 1: hung out with Slagerthor since the show? Oh? Absolutely, we've
- 27:36Speaker 1: hung out a few times. Were you tempted to call her? No?
- 27:41Speaker 1: Because I forgot that she was on the show. When
- 27:44Speaker 1: I first met her, I was donald, I'm it's me.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I was like, because I knew we worked I knew
- 27:57Speaker 1: we worked together on Scrubs, but I didn't know that
- 28:00Speaker 1: she played Slagathor. I just thought she played one of
- 28:03Speaker 1: the interns. So when I saw her, I wasn't like, hey,
- 28:06Speaker 1: you were slag a Thor. So it's never come up
- 28:09Speaker 1: that she was slagathor. But now that I now that
- 28:11Speaker 1: I know that she was slag of Thorne, next time
- 28:14Speaker 1: I see her, Yeah, and I think he calls her
- 28:18Speaker 1: Slaggy later slaggy. Um. So we this is interesting Kelso?
- 28:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah. So it's then Ted is used as a
- 28:30Speaker 1: human eight ball, which was funny. That ship was hilarious.
- 28:34Speaker 1: And then he goes and he goes ask again, later,
- 28:37Speaker 1: would I do that? He shakes his head again. Yeah,
- 28:43Speaker 1: and Ken really let him have it. Yeah, he went
- 28:46Speaker 1: at it well, Ken carry And the first thing I
- 28:49Speaker 1: thought when he picked up the age and lady in
- 28:51Speaker 1: the in the that's the officer and gentleman's spoof. Do
- 28:59Speaker 1: you know that? Yes, I know, I knew that. We
- 29:04Speaker 1: don't say yet. Wait, was Kelso in Vietnam or Korea?
- 29:12Speaker 1: I think it's the Korean War he's in. He wants
- 29:15Speaker 1: to stay. He wanted to stay. Okay, check age wise,
- 29:20Speaker 1: I think it would be it would it would probably
- 29:22Speaker 1: be Vietnam. Okay, so Vietnam, but he wants to stay
- 29:27Speaker 1: in Vietnam. But first that was his fantasy to stay
- 29:30Speaker 1: in Vietnam because he thought this would happen Vietnam. Okay, Well, Kelso,
- 29:41Speaker 1: first imagines if he stayed in Vietnam that and then
- 29:45Speaker 1: we going to an officer and a Gentleman spoof. For
- 29:47Speaker 1: those of you haven't seen it, it's a famous Richard
- 29:49Speaker 1: Gear Debra Winger movie. And he comes in at the
- 29:54Speaker 1: end and picks her up and in uniform, and it's
- 29:57Speaker 1: he's super sexy. Way to go, Paula, Yeah, way to go. Yeah.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I don't know if it holds up, but it was
- 30:04Speaker 1: a great movie. I remember when I was a kid,
- 30:05Speaker 1: I just loved the steamy shower scene where they're having sex.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I thought that was the best. There was a hot
- 30:09Speaker 1: sex scene right in the shower, and there was some
- 30:11Speaker 1: great music. Love lifts us up where we But that
- 30:15Speaker 1: was the actual theme song to the movie, like played
- 30:18Speaker 1: by guitar, piano, you name it right, they played. The
- 30:23Speaker 1: theme of the movie is these guys were in the
- 30:25Speaker 1: Navy and they want to be pilots for the Navy. Yeah,
- 30:29Speaker 1: and they it's the training that you have to go through. Uh.
- 30:33Speaker 1: And and the sergeant played by Lewis cass And Junior.
- 30:36Speaker 1: He won an Academy Award for this movie, by the way, Uh,
- 30:41Speaker 1: masterful job. But uh, it's it's such a great movie.
- 30:45Speaker 1: If you ever get the chance to be allowed to
- 30:47Speaker 1: play thirty seconds of Love Lifts Us Up? Yeah, just
- 30:51Speaker 1: talk about it. It's such a so the theme song
- 30:54Speaker 1: of the movie is Love Lifts Us Up, Love lift
- 30:58Speaker 1: us Up where we belong, but they actually play it
- 31:00Speaker 1: throughout the movie as a score as well. Do you
- 31:07Speaker 1: remember this, Donald, of course we're talking about it. You well,
- 31:15Speaker 1: we're analyzing and talking about it tomorrow. Jennifer Warrens and
- 31:24Speaker 1: Joe Corner who girl gets to the chorus could cut it,
- 31:36Speaker 1: damn anyway, Um, listen, guys, you should watch Officer and Gentleman.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Donald just convinced me that it's a good movie. You
- 31:42Speaker 1: should watch. Well, I mean it has it has an
- 31:44Speaker 1: Academy Award winning performance and it not. I remember the
- 31:49Speaker 1: scene in the pool where they're training them how to
- 31:50Speaker 1: survive if you're when your fighter jet goes under water. Yeah,
- 31:53Speaker 1: it's good. Yeah, anyway, So that's what if you're confused
- 31:57Speaker 1: by Kelso's double fantasy, it's they're both related to Officer
- 32:02Speaker 1: and Gentleman. Now it's way more trippy and bizarre. When
- 32:05Speaker 1: the Vietnamese woman than he's in love with it comes
- 32:08Speaker 1: and picks him up in the ICU. Yes. Now, do
- 32:13Speaker 1: you think that young woman was strong enough or is
- 32:15Speaker 1: absolutely absolutely yes? Because I was. I was surprised that
- 32:20Speaker 1: Ken was strong enough to pick her up, to be
- 32:23Speaker 1: honest with you, but was light. But Ken, I mean
- 32:26Speaker 1: she picked Ken up and held him in like a baby.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Kim picked her up like she Kim picked Kim picked
- 32:31Speaker 1: her up like she was a feather. It was just
- 32:34Speaker 1: like she hopped into his arms and she did the
- 32:36Speaker 1: same thing in the In the show, it's sung in
- 32:39Speaker 1: the viet Vietnamese version, which I don't know the place.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Play some more of it. Let's play thirty more seconds
- 32:46Speaker 1: of it? Or was it one per show? I don't
- 32:49Speaker 1: know what the fucking rules are. We talk over this
- 32:51Speaker 1: one a little bit more, Okay, so I get a
- 32:55Speaker 1: later point in the song. Yeah, I don't have the
- 32:58Speaker 1: Vietnamese version to the Love Lit This is where it goes.
- 33:10Speaker 1: But it's Joe Cocker over Joe talking about the fuck
- 33:25Speaker 1: out of this Joe, do you think that song let's
- 33:31Speaker 1: played at Oh my gosh, it's great. Actually, I didn't
- 33:34Speaker 1: know it was Joe Cocker. That's one of those songs
- 33:37Speaker 1: I used to play back when I watched g I
- 33:39Speaker 1: Joe and Voltron, and they would have that as the
- 33:42Speaker 1: greatest hits that was on That's on every greatest hits
- 33:45Speaker 1: record ever made. Like if there's a if there was
- 33:49Speaker 1: a bop, you know, nineteen eighty, that song is definitely
- 33:56Speaker 1: on there for sure. So listen, we're gonna take a
- 33:58Speaker 1: quick break. When we come back, we're gonna talk about
- 34:00Speaker 1: Kelso actually likes j D. He admits in his voiceover.
- 34:04Speaker 1: We'll be right back. You know, so Kelseo likes JD. Huh.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Not only does Kelseo like JD Donald, but here it
- 34:21Speaker 1: gets more complicated than that. He he thinks, he says
- 34:25Speaker 1: this in voiceover, that he'd be great for his gaze
- 34:28Speaker 1: on Harrison, and the reason is because he happens to
- 34:34Speaker 1: know that Harrison is looking for a new power bottom.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Now I have multiple questions, Um, how does Kelson man?
- 34:48Speaker 1: You can't play it? You can't play it? How does Kelso?
- 34:51Speaker 1: You cannot play it? Kenny? What everybody likes a little ass?
- 34:55Speaker 1: Play everything? You cannot do? All right, But listen, once
- 35:00Speaker 1: I get that set up, I would have played it. Um,
- 35:03Speaker 1: how does so? Kelso seems dismissive of his son's sexuality,
- 35:09Speaker 1: But now we learned that he knows that Harrison is
- 35:12Speaker 1: indeed in search of a new power bottom. Right. I
- 35:17Speaker 1: think a lot of things went down when we found
- 35:20Speaker 1: out that the play that Harrison was actually putting on
- 35:24Speaker 1: was a facade. Yes, And if you think that brought
- 35:27Speaker 1: them together, I think that. I think that. I think
- 35:31Speaker 1: I think that might have built some bridges back up, uh,
- 35:36Speaker 1: in therapy and in conversation and well, what exactly is
- 35:40Speaker 1: a power bottom? Um bottom is somebody who really likes getting,
- 35:46Speaker 1: you know, aft in the bottom and they're out and
- 35:49Speaker 1: enthusiastic about it, and they pushed back righty like he's
- 35:52Speaker 1: very demanding about it. Yeah, Wow, I need I'm not
- 35:57Speaker 1: gonna lie. I need a power bottom in my life.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. I wouldn't mind a little bit
- 36:04Speaker 1: of a power bottom in my life. Oh my god,
- 36:08Speaker 1: Casey skipped this episode this power bottom things, So Casey
- 36:16Speaker 1: Ding just kidding. If you're a power bottom out there,
- 36:19Speaker 1: congratulate you. You'd love to have you on the show
- 36:21Speaker 1: and talk about what it's like being a power bottom
- 36:24Speaker 1: and and and just just just just get to get
- 36:28Speaker 1: to know a power bottom. Joell, can you seek out
- 36:31Speaker 1: a power bottom? We seek out a power bottom. Yes,
- 36:34Speaker 1: it shouldn't be too hard to find. No, there's a
- 36:36Speaker 1: lot of power bottom. There are a lot of power
- 36:38Speaker 1: bottoms out there. A power bottom, a power bottom can
- 36:42Speaker 1: also be interested in other positions, right, just sometimes they
- 36:45Speaker 1: like to power bottom or they usually stereotypically just a
- 36:49Speaker 1: go to power bottom. The typically maybe a good two
- 36:52Speaker 1: power bottom. Okay, obviously it's a spectrum. You're like, Okay,
- 36:56Speaker 1: I got it, spectrum Kinsey scale. All right, let's get
- 36:59Speaker 1: off a power botto. Um, I just got off your
- 37:03Speaker 1: Oh god, we had we had, we had, we had
- 37:10Speaker 1: seen that Elliott um was showing some signs of some
- 37:13Speaker 1: Republican belief but this time she went full non believing
- 37:18Speaker 1: in global warming. She tells Laverne that she doesn't believe
- 37:21Speaker 1: in global warming as she sprays her air slayers spray
- 37:24Speaker 1: all over the place. Yes, I was surprised about that.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I wasn't because five minutes later, what happens in the cafeteria,
- 37:32Speaker 1: elliott is out in for being a Republican. Well, she
- 37:35Speaker 1: sort of comes out of the closet herself. She says,
- 37:37Speaker 1: I'm tired of being you know, I'm tired of not
- 37:40Speaker 1: talking about this, and then and then you know other
- 37:43Speaker 1: people come out too, Mick head of course, Keith, Yeah. Um,
- 37:51Speaker 1: so the cafeteria is split like the country. The hospital
- 37:56Speaker 1: is now split. The hospital, much like the country, is
- 38:00Speaker 1: uh between uh left and right, and everyone starts warring
- 38:06Speaker 1: no pun intended over the Iraq War and all sorts
- 38:09Speaker 1: of other conservative versus liberal things. Right. I want to
- 38:15Speaker 1: tread very lightly here now, because we don't want to
- 38:18Speaker 1: get into that. Well, no, I will say, I want
- 38:22Speaker 1: to tread very lightly because I get I get what
- 38:24Speaker 1: this episode was meant to do. But I'm gonna tell
- 38:27Speaker 1: you something right now. That's scene in the closet with
- 38:31Speaker 1: Elliott and Keith was sexy as fuck. When she goes,
- 38:36Speaker 1: when she goes, how do you feel about Hillary Clinton?
- 38:39Speaker 1: And she goes, I hate that bitch, and Elliott goes,
- 38:44Speaker 1: oh god, that's hot. I'm not gonna lie like that.
- 38:47Speaker 1: It was a little bit of a got a shift.
- 38:49Speaker 1: It was a little bit of a shift, and for me,
- 38:51Speaker 1: my penis went but no, I'm not. I'm not surprise
- 39:00Speaker 1: at Keith and Elliott um a bang in the closet
- 39:03Speaker 1: while talking shit about Democrats. That there was taboo. It
- 39:07Speaker 1: was forbidden in the closet talking about Democrats. Now this
- 39:11Speaker 1: is the episode where the jed I've talked about this
- 39:13Speaker 1: magical prop before. I thought it was a squirrel. It
- 39:15Speaker 1: turns out it's a rabbit. The janitor has made a
- 39:20Speaker 1: rabbit salt and pepper shaker. Yes, um, and I'm I'm
- 39:26Speaker 1: pretty sure that was a real rabbit at one point, yes,
- 39:29Speaker 1: at one point, yes, yeah, And now it's the Johnny Pepper.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Johnny O must have this prop. Johnny, I don't know
- 39:36Speaker 1: if you listen to the show, but um, i'd love
- 39:39Speaker 1: to know where that prop is, and and and and
- 39:42Speaker 1: just look at we want to Yeah, do you really
- 39:46Speaker 1: want that? I don't think I want to own it,
- 39:47Speaker 1: but I'd like you would preak a lot of people
- 39:49Speaker 1: out when they came over for dinner. Well, I wouldn't
- 39:51Speaker 1: use it as a as a salt and pepper shaker. Wait,
- 39:56Speaker 1: hold on, you would have a rabbit salt and pepper
- 39:59Speaker 1: shaker and not use I think I think I would
- 40:03Speaker 1: use it as nostalgia, saying Johnny O is gracious enough
- 40:06Speaker 1: to give me the funniest prop ever on Scrubs. It's
- 40:09Speaker 1: pretty funny. We didn't I don't believe we killed the
- 40:12Speaker 1: rabbit and they found a taxi dermy rabbit of course,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and yes, yes, yes, yes, anyway, it's a very funny
- 40:22Speaker 1: prop um, but it's showing the difference between people's ideology.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I forgot who he's talking to, but what was he
- 40:31Speaker 1: talking to? But whoever it is, says, you can't do that,
- 40:34Speaker 1: you can't you kill and you believe in killing animals
- 40:39Speaker 1: like hunting animals or something like that. And he says, yeah,
- 40:41Speaker 1: if it's for a good reason, and then he brings
- 40:43Speaker 1: up the rabbit salt and cup of shaker. Yeah. Yes,
- 40:48Speaker 1: it was very like I said this. It starts off
- 40:52Speaker 1: as the war being the background, and then it just
- 40:55Speaker 1: goes off into and to so many different things. It's
- 40:58Speaker 1: not just about red and blue. It's also about idea, idea,
- 41:03Speaker 1: how he said ide island. It's also about ideology. Like
- 41:07Speaker 1: there's just so much involved in this episode. Who wrote it?
- 41:12Speaker 1: That's what we never got to that who wrote this episode?
- 41:16Speaker 1: It definitely was controversial, Uh probably even at the time,
- 41:19Speaker 1: because I mean Todd has a joke where he goes
- 41:23Speaker 1: talking about women being forced to cover up in Iraq.
- 41:26Speaker 1: He says, the war in Iraq, try the war to
- 41:29Speaker 1: see Iraq. I mean that's a bit of a that's funny.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Mike Schwartz, Wow, all right? Who plays who plays Lonnie? Everybody? No? No? Who? Sorry?
- 41:46Speaker 1: Who plays plays the delivery guy? What's the delivery guy's name? Dude?
- 41:50Speaker 1: I don't come out, man, I don't know. I was
- 41:55Speaker 1: on the show for nine seasons. I don't remember. It
- 41:57Speaker 1: was he Um, Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd. He's the loneliest person
- 42:02Speaker 1: in the world. He touches his shoulder when he's the
- 42:05Speaker 1: homeless guy through poo in his eye, homeless eye, through
- 42:08Speaker 1: pooh in his eye. And we know that you like
- 42:11Speaker 1: speed metal. Forget else we know about Lloyd well who.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I love that he wanted to check to see if
- 42:20Speaker 1: who's poo They needed to check first mine or his
- 42:23Speaker 1: mine or his first him? Then you now, I have
- 42:28Speaker 1: a rare appearance in the episode when I come to
- 42:31Speaker 1: tell you that um that I want to see if
- 42:34Speaker 1: you've seen the funnies in the paper and um, if
- 42:37Speaker 1: you've seen Marmaduke, I'm gonna be honest with you. I
- 42:40Speaker 1: don't know how I memorize that whole run of medical
- 42:44Speaker 1: jargon or not. It's not even medical jargon. It's pretty
- 42:47Speaker 1: political jargon. You well, you clearly worked on it because
- 42:50Speaker 1: you did it in one take. They didn't cut you
- 42:52Speaker 1: all around you, right, I know Bill probably had to
- 42:54Speaker 1: give you like a weak warning like Donald, I don't
- 42:58Speaker 1: know how I was able going to high speech. And
- 43:00Speaker 1: I sped through it too, like the whole the whole scene,
- 43:04Speaker 1: the whole scene, Like I'm sitting there like, how did
- 43:07Speaker 1: iwiz did it like a rap? Because you tell me
- 43:09Speaker 1: once like if you, if you, you can memorize rap
- 43:11Speaker 1: lyrics because there's rhythm to it. This was back, This
- 43:14Speaker 1: is back when that's out every night, when I was
- 43:17Speaker 1: partying hard like this is so my mind was not
- 43:21Speaker 1: I don't know how I was able to do it.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Now it's not a problem, but back then, holy wow,
- 43:28Speaker 1: I was very distracted for me to be able to
- 43:31Speaker 1: do it, for me to be able to do that.
- 43:33Speaker 1: When I saw that, I was like, wow, I'm surprised
- 43:35Speaker 1: I did that. Now we talk about Marmaduke and were
- 43:37Speaker 1: thinking about Marmaduke. Then we get into the boondocks and
- 43:40Speaker 1: I say, man, that little kid hates Honkys And you
- 43:44Speaker 1: say who doesn't, Yeah, as you walk away. Yeah, and
- 43:47Speaker 1: not even like joking, like seriously, Yeah, like who does it? Well?
- 43:51Speaker 1: You know, I think that makes me think it's even
- 43:54Speaker 1: more of an homage to all in the family because
- 43:56Speaker 1: they used to throw the word honky around left and
- 43:58Speaker 1: right on that it was George Jefferson and Joel. Is
- 44:02Speaker 1: the word honky like the N word in that only
- 44:05Speaker 1: white people are allowed to say honky? Or or African
- 44:08Speaker 1: Americans allowed to say honky? Yeah, thank you, old. If
- 44:13Speaker 1: you want, you can say honky. I never thought I couldn't.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Wasn't George Jefferson who would call me yeah all the time,
- 44:24Speaker 1: all the time, all the time. Very I mean, I
- 44:29Speaker 1: don't know what the origin of the word honky is. Joel.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Can you look that up for us? It's a funny word.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I can, Okay. So then we have the janitor has
- 44:43Speaker 1: a globe around his cart. He says, point to Iraq.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I go, that's Iraq. He goes, that's China. I go,
- 44:50Speaker 1: you're China. Yeah. Yeah, So once again it tracks though
- 44:57Speaker 1: because JD it's horrible at geography, right once again, Yeah,
- 45:02Speaker 1: just like me and just like you, Just like me,
- 45:06Speaker 1: um Kelso has tattooed the name Johnny on his ass,
- 45:11Speaker 1: on his ass, cheek, on his ass cheek, and later
- 45:15Speaker 1: he sort of reveals that he was in love with Johnny.
- 45:18Speaker 1: He was in love with yeah yeah, because later he
- 45:25Speaker 1: secretly reveals in his voiceover that he wished he'd married Johnny.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, um yeah right, So kelso fine, no one
- 45:40Speaker 1: has any use for Kelso he's pissed off. He wants
- 45:43Speaker 1: to get back in the game. He just and because
- 45:45Speaker 1: Carl is out as a as a nurse for another week,
- 45:48Speaker 1: he decides that and maybe they did this again because
- 45:51Speaker 1: if Judy being her back, yeah, you know, I'm gonna
- 45:56Speaker 1: I wonder, I wonder if that's true. But there was, Yeah,
- 46:02Speaker 1: but there was a funny moment, but she was barely
- 46:04Speaker 1: in the episode, right uh yeah, She's like one shot
- 46:09Speaker 1: in the episode, and I'm sure we shot it later. Um,
- 46:12Speaker 1: I wonder this made me laugh really hard, couldn't you
- 46:16Speaker 1: say that? Donald? Because when she appears, she's behind she's
- 46:19Speaker 1: she's not in the in the in the lobby, she's
- 46:21Speaker 1: on the other side side of the wall. Yeah. I
- 46:25Speaker 1: wonder if you caught this joke, because I fucking laughed
- 46:29Speaker 1: at this joke. So in order to get back at Elliott,
- 46:36Speaker 1: Cox and Turk make it so that slogans. Dumb slogans
- 46:41Speaker 1: that she said back in the day are now on
- 46:44Speaker 1: the coffee bucks. Yeah, just like how Starbucks used to
- 46:47Speaker 1: put I guess quotes on their cups or something. Right,
- 46:49Speaker 1: so now it's dumb shit, Elliott said. And I didn't
- 46:53Speaker 1: realize she said this, but at one point Elliot said,
- 46:58Speaker 1: my bajango is on fire. Yes, and they put that
- 47:02Speaker 1: on the coffee cups. Elliott read, May two thousand and four.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I don't remember when Elliott said that her pajingo was
- 47:08Speaker 1: on fire. Sometime like right when I heard that, I
- 47:10Speaker 1: was like, what did she say, Mike Djingo is do
- 47:13Speaker 1: you think I was really in an episode or or
- 47:16Speaker 1: it was well, I think she did when she was
- 47:18Speaker 1: talking about like getting waxed or something. Oh, I wonder
- 47:22Speaker 1: if I can find the original. She can't say, um,
- 47:27Speaker 1: but Jing calls her vagina a pajingo. But then Private
- 47:29Speaker 1: Dancer goes, what's a bajingo? I forgot to Kelso say anything,
- 47:35Speaker 1: or he just shows him the cup. He shows him
- 47:37Speaker 1: the cup and he's reading and he goes, jingoes on fire,
- 47:41Speaker 1: Elliot read, May two thousand and four. Yeah, Joel is
- 47:45Speaker 1: probably episode was made two thousand and four. It's probably
- 47:48Speaker 1: in one of them. Um. So Kelsa becomes a nurse. Yes,
- 47:55Speaker 1: the janitor plans to turn a cat into a spice rack.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Oh my god, how is that possible? I don't know.
- 48:08Speaker 1: How do you make a right? I would have loved
- 48:10Speaker 1: to have seen with Johnny. Okay, Johnny, I was probably like,
- 48:13Speaker 1: put me in coach. I mean, I guess you'd hold
- 48:18Speaker 1: I guess it would be mounted upside down with the
- 48:21Speaker 1: with the legs up. Oh wait, hold on behind the
- 48:24Speaker 1: spices up so like on the private parts and the
- 48:31Speaker 1: nipples and all of that stuff of the cat. Well, Um,
- 48:37Speaker 1: the nipples I guess would would be wouldn't really get
- 48:41Speaker 1: in the way of the spices, or they might help
- 48:42Speaker 1: hold the spices in place. All right, So do we
- 48:50Speaker 1: got a call? No? Wait, not yet. Um, I'm not
- 48:54Speaker 1: done yet. Kelson comes a nurse. Um. He gets rescued
- 48:57Speaker 1: in his fantasy by vietname this woman that was his
- 49:01Speaker 1: lover that was gossipy as or as Joel put it.
- 49:07Speaker 1: What did you say, Kiki? Kiki oh Okiki? Sorry I
- 49:11Speaker 1: should have that. Yeah, you chatted up with the girls, Kiki?
- 49:17Speaker 1: Oh Donald, do you love me? Are you riding? Say?
- 49:22Speaker 1: You never never leave? Sign me. Donald, Do you ever
- 49:26Speaker 1: use the term have a kiki? No? Is Joel? Does Joel?
- 49:31Speaker 1: Are you like, hey, hey, do you want to get
- 49:32Speaker 1: together and have a kiki? Yeah? Yeah? Well no, I mean,
- 49:35Speaker 1: I don't think you've never did invite anyone specifically to
- 49:37Speaker 1: a kiki, but you might describe later what happened as
- 49:40Speaker 1: a kiki. Oh girl, we was on the zooe and
- 49:43Speaker 1: all of a sudden we was kiki? Do you love me?
- 49:47Speaker 1: Are you riding? Say you never never leave? Looking for
- 49:52Speaker 1: the Bijingo quote. Honky is a much disputed term that
- 49:56Speaker 1: there's no factual basis of where it came from. People
- 49:59Speaker 1: thought it was West African slang, but that was pretty debunked.
- 50:02Speaker 1: There's my favorite theory is it might come from the
- 50:05Speaker 1: word bow hunk or hunky, which refers to Hungarian, Bohemian
- 50:10Speaker 1: and other Eastern European immigrants. But that's that's the best
- 50:14Speaker 1: guests we have, all right, Well, I don't know, I
- 50:17Speaker 1: don't know. I just know that Donald's allowed to say it. Donalds,
- 50:21Speaker 1: you want to practice saying it? No, you do your
- 50:24Speaker 1: best George Jefferson impression. Wheezy honks? Is that the do
- 50:34Speaker 1: it's horrible. That's horrible. When I was a kid, they
- 50:39Speaker 1: called me George Jefferson because of my hairline. This is
- 50:44Speaker 1: this is my favorite quote from the episode. Whether it'd
- 50:47Speaker 1: be taking a poop, whether it be a finger, whether
- 50:50Speaker 1: it be a tongue, whether it you know everybody likes
- 50:53Speaker 1: low ass flight. Rather it'd be taking a poop, whether
- 50:57Speaker 1: it be a finger, whether it be a tongue, whether
- 51:01Speaker 1: you know everybody likes a little ass flight. Oh my gosh,
- 51:05Speaker 1: I said that. I will I will never not know that.
- 51:09Speaker 1: God the good thing our moms gave up listening to
- 51:11Speaker 1: the show. I hate to tell you this, but it's true. Though. Um,
- 51:16Speaker 1: all right, well, what else can we talk about? We're
- 51:19Speaker 1: almost done here. Kelso reveals, Oh, yeah, we talked about
- 51:22Speaker 1: he wishes he married his Vietnam buddy. Um oh. And
- 51:26Speaker 1: then he unites everyone around a common enemy. He takes
- 51:29Speaker 1: away the coffee discount and coffee Bucks and should start
- 51:33Speaker 1: we should have started the show off with that. Everyone's
- 51:36Speaker 1: very angry at Kelso in the beginning of the show
- 51:39Speaker 1: because he's not living up to his duties anymore. Said
- 51:45Speaker 1: I did, but they do thank him for the employee
- 51:49Speaker 1: discount at the coffee Bucks, and so everybody's thankful for that.
- 51:53Speaker 1: And so at the end, in order to be a
- 51:56Speaker 1: dick again and cause them to unite against the common enemy,
- 52:00Speaker 1: as you just said, yes, he takes away the employee
- 52:03Speaker 1: discut yes, because I guess that that must fall into
- 52:06Speaker 1: like when Americans have been war traditionally, they often come
- 52:11Speaker 1: together against a common enemy. Um, it's gonna have to
- 52:15Speaker 1: be aliensis. I'm gonna tell you right now, it's gonna
- 52:18Speaker 1: have to be Aliens saying this racism shit, because this
- 52:21Speaker 1: shit's forever coming by and no one cares like they're
- 52:24Speaker 1: literally like doing by. It's like, hey, guys, how's it going.
- 52:28Speaker 1: I don't know why they don't just land and come.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Now that the pandemic come kick starting to be over,
- 52:33Speaker 1: why don't they come have a kiki? You want to
- 52:35Speaker 1: hear I remember when the pandemic was happening. It's like aliens. Now. No,
- 52:43Speaker 1: I don't know if this is true, but I heard
- 52:44Speaker 1: that NASA or I don't know who it is, or
- 52:47Speaker 1: somebody is going to send out a pain in the
- 52:50Speaker 1: galaxy to let whoever's out there know that where exactly
- 52:54Speaker 1: Earth is. And yeah, don't do that shit. And there's
- 52:59Speaker 1: a deep our DNA structure will be in the paying
- 53:02Speaker 1: male and female like all types of ship. And didn't
- 53:06Speaker 1: Stephen Hawkings say don't do that? Yeah, he said it
- 53:08Speaker 1: would be like Columbus discovering America. You know what happened.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say, we've been doing that for decades already.
- 53:14Speaker 1: We've been sending our radio signals into space for exactly
- 53:17Speaker 1: where we are, and this is our DNA structure, Daniel.
- 53:20Speaker 1: But if there's any if there's any intelligent life that's
- 53:22Speaker 1: strong enough to pick up whatever radio signal we're sending
- 53:24Speaker 1: out into space, which only gets like a little bit
- 53:27Speaker 1: further than the signal that we're about to send out
- 53:29Speaker 1: or whatever, they would have found us already they've seen.
- 53:36Speaker 1: But I'm just saying, right by the Earth and then
- 53:39Speaker 1: around the sun. Did you see the other way? Do
- 53:42Speaker 1: I did? I saw the tic TAC. I saw the
- 53:44Speaker 1: tic tac tic tac a little weird to strange tak. Yeah. Yeah,
- 53:49Speaker 1: if you know no one we're talking about, go on
- 53:51Speaker 1: the YouTube's what do you search for? I'm going to
- 53:53Speaker 1: see what you say, space, tic tac space tic tac. Yeah,
- 53:56Speaker 1: I'm willing to bet if you google space tic tak
- 53:58Speaker 1: it'll come. But is that the Is that the fighter
- 54:00Speaker 1: pilot who's freaking out? Yep, No, I'm talking about the one.
- 54:03Speaker 1: I'm talking about the long probe. They wrote about it
- 54:06Speaker 1: in a book a long time ago. Man, a long
- 54:08Speaker 1: time ago. It was written in a book. Clancy Brown
- 54:11Speaker 1: hit me to it. It was like, it's like a probe.
- 54:13Speaker 1: It was like, that comes through. It looks like it
- 54:16Speaker 1: looks like a but they in the book they'd like
- 54:19Speaker 1: land on it and all of that stuff. Anyway, it
- 54:21Speaker 1: comes through, goes around the Sun and exits and it's
- 54:24Speaker 1: an odd it looks like an odd shaped asteroid. That
- 54:28Speaker 1: shit just happened. And we did nothing but say, oh wow,
- 54:31Speaker 1: look at the odd shaped asteroid. The ship came through,
- 54:34Speaker 1: went through, pasted really close to us, went around the Sun,
- 54:39Speaker 1: and then exited our solar system. And we said nothing
- 54:44Speaker 1: like Yeah, everyone's too busy. Everyone's too busy to realize
- 54:47Speaker 1: that the aliens are doing flybys. Watch it if you
- 54:50Speaker 1: want to look at them on YouTube. It's it's labeled
- 54:53Speaker 1: watch Navy pilot describes encounter with tic TAC shaped unidentified
- 54:59Speaker 1: flying object and it's PBS News hours so it's not bullshit,
- 55:02Speaker 1: it's it's the real deal. Holy Field. Um, it's pretty
- 55:06Speaker 1: amazing footage of this fighter jet pilot freaking the fuck
- 55:09Speaker 1: out at what he sees because he's like what he
- 55:12Speaker 1: you know, no one knows better than him that nothing
- 55:15Speaker 1: flies like that from Earth, right, And and he was
- 55:18Speaker 1: having a hard time getting it on the radar, like
- 55:20Speaker 1: he's trying to ping it, and then once he pings it,
- 55:22Speaker 1: he gets so excited. He's like, I got He's so excited,
- 55:26Speaker 1: I got it. Look at it. But he's like, can't
- 55:29Speaker 1: believe what the craft is doing. He's like, look at it,
- 55:31Speaker 1: look at it, look at him. And of course the
- 55:35Speaker 1: episode ends with the janitor predicting Bin Laden in Pakistan,
- 55:41Speaker 1: which when we actually found in Laden in Pakistan, uh
- 55:43Speaker 1: a lot. I remember lots of Scrubs viewers putting on
- 55:46Speaker 1: Twitter and they like the janitor guest right all along
- 55:52Speaker 1: nw you know they always say the Simpsons is always right,
- 55:55Speaker 1: the Simpsons predicts all these things. Well, the janitor predicted that.
- 55:59Speaker 1: How is this saying? Is this is the Simpson Like
- 56:03Speaker 1: I'm so at a loss of words for that, Like,
- 56:05Speaker 1: did they actually predict all of these things? Or is
- 56:08Speaker 1: this somebody cleverly because because there's so many episodes. Yeah,
- 56:12Speaker 1: they really did to some extent most of the things
- 56:15Speaker 1: that you're seeing, like the Trump presidency is absolutely real
- 56:18Speaker 1: with the ORB with them standing around the ORB and
- 56:21Speaker 1: everything like that. Yeah, yeah, like holy, that was crazy.
- 56:26Speaker 1: The escalator thing was really like how did how how
- 56:30Speaker 1: did they do that? How wild? The what thing? There's
- 56:34Speaker 1: a scene in one of the episodes where President Donald
- 56:36Speaker 1: Trump is coming down an elevator an escalator and like
- 56:39Speaker 1: waving at people in the Simpsons episode, and that exact
- 56:42Speaker 1: scene played out in real life. What do you think
- 56:45Speaker 1: Trump saw it and said, Oh, I'll do it like that. Man,
- 56:48Speaker 1: I do not know what if that would be really really,
- 56:52Speaker 1: if you're gonna do it, you should do it like this,
- 56:54Speaker 1: that would be that that would be giving them so
- 56:57Speaker 1: much fucking credit. Man, dude, that's like that would be
- 57:01Speaker 1: That's a matter almost man. Why all right? Shall we
- 57:03Speaker 1: bring We'll go to the break. When I take a break,
- 57:05Speaker 1: and I'm going to allow urine to flow through my urethra,
- 57:10Speaker 1: and then we will have a caller. We'll be right
- 57:12Speaker 1: back urin ghost through the urethra. Yeah, and we're bad.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Play that song. Play that song. Got a call. You
- 57:31Speaker 1: can talk so show dudes, you know, like a balla
- 57:35Speaker 1: spoke some jazz, maybe talking about the episode. So come on, Joan,
- 57:41Speaker 1: let's get the show. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up
- 57:48Speaker 1: by hey there she is Hi Kai hi, Hi, welcome,
- 57:58Speaker 1: thank you, We welcome to the show. Kai is it? Kai?
- 58:02Speaker 1: Is that the way you say? Yeah, kai, welcome to
- 58:05Speaker 1: the program. Um it says create your happiness, live your life.
- 58:10Speaker 1: We like that. We like the expression live your life.
- 58:13Speaker 1: The Nick Cordero song, which is a beautiful song. Um,
- 58:17Speaker 1: welcome to the program. Tell us about yourself? How did
- 58:20Speaker 1: how did Joelle and and end up finding you? Posted?
- 58:24Speaker 1: She was looking for a last minute guest and she
- 58:26Speaker 1: liked my question. What was your question? Well, you just
- 58:29Speaker 1: just dive into it, go for it. Yeah. So April
- 58:33Speaker 1: is Autism Awareness Acceptance Month, and I'm autistic, um and
- 58:39Speaker 1: Scrubs has really helped me embrace my weirdness as an
- 58:42Speaker 1: autistic person. So I'm wondering, what is a quirker insecurity
- 58:47Speaker 1: that you've learned to embrace. Oh my god, that's a
- 58:51Speaker 1: very good question. A great question. Um, I am, I
- 58:54Speaker 1: I feel very Uh what's a quirk I know, I
- 59:00Speaker 1: just think I'm a weird person. I've always thought that
- 59:02Speaker 1: I was a quokie sort of odd person. I mean,
- 59:06Speaker 1: I know I've spoken about this on the podcast before,
- 59:08Speaker 1: but like, I thought I was so weird because everyone
- 59:10Speaker 1: in my public school was playing sports and I had
- 59:13Speaker 1: zero interest, and I was like, what is wrong with me?
- 59:17Speaker 1: Why didn't Why do I have no interest? And then
- 59:19Speaker 1: they'd watch sports and they'd all talk about the game,
- 59:21Speaker 1: and I'd be like and then I just didn't I
- 59:24Speaker 1: really thought there was something wrong with me until I
- 59:29Speaker 1: discovered theater and then I was like, oh, there's other
- 59:31Speaker 1: things that I love. You don't have to just pick lacrosse.
- 59:37Speaker 1: No offense to those who love lacrosse. So then I
- 59:41Speaker 1: learned to embrace theater and really love that. But I
- 59:44Speaker 1: have to admit, I have to admit to you, kay,
- 59:46Speaker 1: that I was still embarrassed at school. Most of the
- 59:50Speaker 1: theater stuff I would do would be outside of school,
- 59:52Speaker 1: would be in the community stuff, or it would be
- 59:55Speaker 1: a theater camp. I was still too shy, and I'm
- 59:58Speaker 1: embarrassed to admit this, but I was still too shy
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: in my school to do the theater productions because I
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: was so worried about fitting in and not and in
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: my school they were kind of treated at the time
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: like dorky and and not cool. And you know, like
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: so many young kids, I wanted to be accepted. I
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: wanted to be cool, and so I kind of like
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: had this double life where I was like kind of
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: a bit of a class clown in in in school,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: but then like outside, I was finding my passion of
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: performing in theater and stuff. Donald, I'm a bit of
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: an introvert. I know I come out I know I
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: come off as I know. I come off as someone
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: who is very loud and likes to be in fun
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: of a lot of people. I don't like to hang
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: out though. I don't like to go out. I don't
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: like to. When you were younger, you did, Yeah, I
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: preferred to. I did hang on. It's a quirk. It's
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: a quirk that I've developed. I guess then i'd preferred to,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: you know, I prefer to sit on my couch and
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: watch Amy Schumer said it best on the Oscars during
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: her her her monologues. You remember, She's like, you know,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: how great is this? You know, well, what's better than this?
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: What is better than this? She goes, you know what's
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: better than this home? Yeah, home, she goes, that's where
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: all my pills are. Yeah, and I I fall into
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: that category. Now. I'd prefer to be home then do
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: quite a few things in my life. Uh. And you know,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: I'm lucky to have friends like Zach who understand this
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: about me. Yeah, that's where we go to. That's why
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Donald and I are already eating dinner at like senior
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: citizen hour. We're like, how about six? Yeah, but I
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: saw some funny I saw some funny meme I thought
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: of us. Donald, it was like like like like a
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: dog making a face, like what hell you talking about?
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: It was like when your friends asked you to meet
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: up at nine thirty pm. Yeah, you gotta be out
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: your mind. You gotta be out your mind. I love
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: your mind. Yeah, I guess that's the This is forty
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: seven because I know we're not We're not We're not
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: meeting up at nine thirty. I talked to somebody on
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: the phone other than you, dude, for the first time
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: in a really other than you or my agent and
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: my mom or my mom in a couple of years.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: And we talked for like thirty minutes, and it was
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: like it was. It was. It was weird dude, like
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I was. I was uncomfortable at first, like, shit, I
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: shouldn't have picked up the phone one, you know what
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I mean? And then never beat up the phone, right,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: And then we had the conversation and at the end
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: of it, I was actually relieved because we had such
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: a good time talking. But but it wasn't a FaceTime
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: it was a phone call. It was an actual phone call.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: For some reason, I'm better with FaceTime than than the
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: actual call these days. Kit's nodding, you agree, they're not
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: liking the phone. It's just an all the time thing
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: for me, not just pandemics that I get it, really,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: but do you do you feel that that's because you shied?
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Do you think that's tied into your autism? What do
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: you tell us a little more about yourself. No, I
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: think it's that's mostly anxiety. Just I also have anxiety.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: So and just like when you're, like you said, FaceTime,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I find it easier because you can see people's faces,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: so you don't have to rely on the tone of
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: voice so much. Yes, um, do you feel that your anxiety? Um?
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: And part of what you can say none of your
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: business acts shut the fuck up. But do you think
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: your anxiety is tied into your your autism or do
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: you feel like there are two separate things. Yeah, I
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: definitely think they're related. Like I would say, the vast
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: majority of people with autism also have anxiety. So yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: And it's quite as I understand, and I have a
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: limited understanding, but it's it's quite a spectrum of autism
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: as people who are who are who suffer and on
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: a very intense level, and those who I mean, if
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I met you and you didn't tell me, I wouldn't
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: necessarily know that you have autism, so um right, it's
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: quite a it's quite a wide spectrum. Yeah, but you well, yeah,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I mean, listen to somebody who's neuro divergent, Like I
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: totally feel a lot of that, like trying to, um
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: sometimes just open my computer is scary for me. And
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: do a lot of work on my phone, like as
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: much as possible because it doesn't seem as important or heavy.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I have a hard time with FaceTime. I'm not trying
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: to always keep my angles up, so I really I'm
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: a big speaker phone person. I'm like I by the way,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: I've just recently moved to speaker phone as a as
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: a Yeah, there's something about this holding it this way
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: as opposed to this that I've been enjoying lately. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: I'll just leave it at one plot spot in my
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: room and I'm moving around doing laundry, like I need
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: to be up into I have a g D, so
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: like I need to be touching things and moving and
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: you know, especially because a lot of my job is
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: like on a microphone and I'm not allowed to move
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: or touch things. That to work really hard not to
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: be tapping on things or whatever. So yeah, it's a
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: it's definitely a spectrum. It is definitely a process. But
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: I also think that, you know, having a lot of
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: friends that are either on the autism spectrum or neuro
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: divergent like me, Like we work really hard to try
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: to normalize the things that have been mothered our whole lives.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: It's a challenge, but it's also been really like a
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: beautiful experience to kind of come into this acceptance. I
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: forget things a lot, and you know, I have friends
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: who are like I need you to text me, like
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: right away, it's never gonna happen. Love, Like I can't
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: whoa well So what you're saying, when you have to say,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: what you're saying too, is that you're learning to like
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: accept who it is that you are. This is me
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: and and um, and I'm not gonna it's impossible. I
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: obviously can do work on myself. We all can, but
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: there's certain things that are me and I need to
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: have one. I mean I one needs to embrace who
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: they who they truly are. Yeah, there's a new show Kai.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: I don't know if you've watched a little I watched
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: a little bit of it called um as we see It.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Have you heard about that? Yeah? I watched it? Did
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Did you think it's it's about um, three autistic adults
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: who lived together. Um. Did you did you feel it
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: was accurate or funny or good? Or would you recommend
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: it to other people with autism? Yeah? I would. I
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: think it was like definitely a step in the right
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: direction because all of the actors were autistic and that
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: doesn't often. So don we know um one of the
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: actors he's a stand up um um and he's very
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: funny and his name is Rick Lassman. Really did you
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: know that? I did? Not? You know? How he was
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: on Bill's show? Um Um and he's a stand up
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: community he's very funny. And yeah, and he and and
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: he late in life was diagnosed with autism. And it's
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: like what Kayle was saying, it always felt a little
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: bit different, and so obviously in the terms of the spectrum,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: he wasn't severely autistic, um, if that's the correct way
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: to put it, but he always felt and then and
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: then went and saw someone and realized that he was
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: indeed autistic. And he's wonderful on the show. He's a
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: very good actor, and he's very funny. It's a comedy.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: I recommend people checking out. It's called as we As
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: We See It. It's very unique. I've never seen a
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: show like it. It stars three autistic people and they're
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: all very gifted actors. Yeah, I'm gonna check it out.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I hadn't heard of that before. All right, Kai, do
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: you do you have to fix your life? Anything we
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: can do to improve your life in any way? Yes.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: So I recently participated in a short film project m
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: and I had never done anything like that, and I
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: didn't expect to, but it just kind of happened anyway.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: I really enjoyed it, and I fell in love with
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: like the filmmaking process. And I'm just wondering, like any
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: advice for how to continue exploring that as an amateur,
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: like no experience, keep doing it there. I mean, there's
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: there's there's such a desire for more female voices. There's
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: such a desire desire for um um autistic voices. What, Joel,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: the term you use neurodivergent, I don't know, that's a
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: new term for me. But there's such a there's such
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: a hunger for for for voices. I mean, look at
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: the celebration of the of the film that won Best
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Picture of Code. Finally, in a really amazing way, someone
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: made a movie about that experience of a of a
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: of a deaf family. Um So I would encourage you
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: to do it and the way they do it. Just
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: keep making movies. Get a camera. It can be a
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: cheap camera. You don't have to break the bank. He
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: could literally use your iPhone. You can go on Amazon
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: and there's accessories for your iPhone that'll make you shoot
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: better with your iPhone, like hand grips and mics, and
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: you can there's people that there's that movie was that
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: trans film, Joel. They shot on Tangerine, They shot the
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: whole thing on an iPhone and it won all these awards.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: So money is not an impediment. Um, it's just about
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: putting the work, in, putting the time in getting getting
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: some friends together, making also having something to say whatever
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: it is that you want to say, being able to
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: focus it and put it onto a script form or
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: it's hard to do just for talking with me sometimes,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: but having something to say is very important. When you
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: find what it is that you want to say, you
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: have all of the tools, That's what Zach is saying
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: to make these projects and you can. It's accessible, so
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: if you're really serious about if you're really serious about it,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: you can do it. Tell your story, I mean, that's
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: what I would say. I mean, that's what when when
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: I made gardens did I was just telling a version
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: of my life. UM. I tell when you, if you
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: make a short, tell tell something that's interesting about about
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: you in your life. You know it doesn't have to
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: be you exactly make a character, but um, you know
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: you have a you have a unique, interesting story to
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: tell that no one else could tell but you. So
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: that's my advice is to write a short, gather your
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: friends around to help and um and make something that's
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: that only you could tell. I agree with that. Hunt.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: You're welcome, Donald, You're welcome. You're so welcome. Kai, thank
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: you for coming on. Everybody. That's our show. I think
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: we did it all. Donald's we did do it all.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I just want to give a shout out to a
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: gofund me. Well, I love you, Happy birthday, obviously, I
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: want to give a shout out to a gofund me.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: My son, Rocco went to school with this young girl
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: named Hayden who is suffering from leukemia right now. She's
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: eight years old, and her gofund me is help Hayden
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: fight leukemia. Her mom was Rocco's teacher in kindergarten and
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: she taught him how to read. And so, you know,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: it's something that's that means a lot to me, means
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: a lot to my wife. I just wanted to say,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: give him with a little bit of time that I
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: have left on this, help Hayden fight leukemia. It's a
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: go fund me. Joel will put it on the show notes,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: so if you look in the show notes, you'll be
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: able to find it. And Um, thank you, Kai, thank you, Daniel,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: thank you Joel. Um. This was an episode that was
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: all over the place. I loved it, and I can't
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: wait to have our new Donald quote in the sound machine.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Why don't you play it one time for everybody? I don't,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I I you don't. I just feel like I'm a
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: little bit shy to play it in front of Kai,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: because she feels like a gentlewoman, a woman who shouldn't
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: hear such horrible things. I agree with. But Kai, when
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: you hear the episode back, you'll hear it several times.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: All Right, Everybody that's saying six seven eight stories about Shore,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: we made about a bunch of doctor nurses stories.
