- 0:01This is a duck fellas podcast episode 37 what's up my guys what is up my guy,
- 0:10fucking loser being responsible adults out here zach and i are,
- 0:15oh whoa what is that supposed to mean,
- 0:19i don't know just some of us have other things to do we can't just take a week
- 0:24off of work to play boats with friends but that's all right we're here i think
- 0:29he's referring to the The fact that we take care of the kids we have.
- 0:33Damn. Yeah, but if I have any, I don't know of them. Well, valid excuse.
- 0:40Thank you. Thank you. I'm trying.
- 0:42Which is a first. Shut up. How's it been?
- 0:46What have you been up to? Dude, I've been in the hospital since Wednesday night.
- 0:52Not for me. Did they ask cancer catch up to you? Nope. Set them clear.
- 0:56I had them check all the way up to my large intestine.
- 1:03Said I'm good to go for a few more years so the problem is you probably enjoyed
- 1:07that way too much there's a reason I asked him to leave his rings on,
- 1:13yeah yeah but yeah other than that man came home there's two ponds in my yard,
- 1:18this rain just does not quit no it's rough out there i mean we needed it right
- 1:23and i'm glad for the moisture but,
- 1:26dude i mean it's it's wild how much rain we've gotten and me and austin were
- 1:30talking about it earlier we were working on the little boat and it's like the
- 1:34most rain we've had in the month of september since what the 40s 1941 i think something like that,
- 1:40yeah most in the month of September but I was uh reading a fact that I would
- 1:44have the fact check to know if it's actually accurate or not but the last time
- 1:47we had this much moisture in the fall,
- 1:51was in the fall of 2007 and the fall of 92,
- 1:55I think we all know what the spring of the following years looks like yeah I
- 2:00I think I know which one you're which article you're talking I think I I seen
- 2:03the same one too the other day and was reading it and that's,
- 2:07it's shaping up to be a very wet year yeah,
- 2:11the next six months are going to be very interesting for,
- 2:13anybody that hunts a man-made lake in Iowa.
- 2:16Facts. All the food's gone. I mean, we might as well just cancel hunting season
- 2:21at this point because it's going to be pointless. Yeah, nobody show up, please.
- 2:25Honest to God, yeah, it's bad. I heard, yeah, multiple boat ramps washed out
- 2:29around the lake and river, so they didn't even bother coming and looking.
- 2:33All the willows are clogging the dam currently, and that's why we're flooding
- 2:36right now. Fuck, I knew they shouldn't have sprayed all of them. Yeah.
- 2:40The Goyne River was running so hard that it actually cleared out all of the floating logs.
- 2:46It's crazy to think about no it's I mean it's honestly wild I can't believe that would happen,
- 2:50but yeah no so we got I got home last night and now we are on the grind in the
- 2:57hurry of getting everything ready to go for duck season because youth hunts next weekend,
- 3:04I mean if I'm I don't know if you guys plan on taking any youth out if I'm not
- 3:08home but I know if I'm home I'm gonna try and get a couple youth together and
- 3:12get them out there because I mean it's goose season too but I'd rather,
- 3:15it's their one or two days they get to go and shoot ducks by themselves.
- 3:21Yeah, I'm planning on taking Vernon.
- 3:26Yeah, Vernon and Wesson are about to have a heck of a time, let me tell you.
- 3:30They're going to shoot so many ducks.
- 3:33Speaking of do season open up, I do have a field that we could probably get
- 3:37on if we don't find any uses to take. Yeah.
- 3:43Well, I think we got a few options. I mean, the high water is kind of changing
- 3:46things, but by then the water is supposed to be back down to like 743 here.
- 3:51So that's about a foot and a half below our normal winter pool that we've had
- 3:55the past few years. So that,
- 3:57Bring them back down into the areas that usually hang out this time of year, too. Yeah.
- 4:03Yeah, I think it's going to depend on, obviously, there's like.
- 4:09Seven days out of the next 10-day forecast has a chance for rain in it as well, too.
- 4:14So I definitely think that it's a possibility that water numbers could still
- 4:18fluctuate and we would see where that ends up and how much water they're pushing
- 4:23out and how much they're leaving in, depending on how much rain they get north of us as well.
- 4:30I mean, if they're planning on dropping it, they're going to have to stop it
- 4:32shortly after that to get it back up to what they're claiming, right?
- 4:36So the water is forecasted to be down to 743 by like the end of next week I
- 4:43believe and then they're going to start gradually raising it through duck season,
- 4:48because I know his plan like the long term plan from the DNR here from Todd
- 4:52was to have it at 743 and a half for youth season which I mean we can be at
- 4:56that no problem because we're at 747 right now,
- 5:00and then by the end of duck season or towards like the second half of duck season was to be at 747.
- 5:08Which is over there.
- 5:08Yeah. We're going to drop the water and then bring it back, I guess,
- 5:11which, I mean, whatever.
- 5:15I think the mindset on that, if anybody's wondering, was just to try and not
- 5:19put all the food and water right away so that obviously whatever birds we have
- 5:23don't try and eat it all up, all the millet and stuff right away.
- 5:26But I would kind of just rather leave it where it's at.
- 5:30If we're going to go here anyways for duck season, and try and leave it at this
- 5:33level and hold it. We already got it. We know we can have it.
- 5:36Yeah. I mean, I'm kind of in the same boat. I don't know.
- 5:41I understand the thought process, I guess, but at the same time, just leave it.
- 5:47In a perfect world, right? It would work out the way that they have it planned,
- 5:51but in reality, how often does Mother Nature play nice?
- 5:56I bet if it was a percentage, it would be like 1.75%.
- 6:02That's a pretty weird number that you just pulled out of your ass.
- 6:05I don't have to pull it anymore. It kind of falls out after that checkbook this week.
- 6:11Oh, man. I mean, I'm definitely looking forward to, if I am home, getting some youth out.
- 6:17Hope that some of our listeners, I know we've got a pretty good listener base in Minnesota.
- 6:21And I believe this weekend's opening weekend for duck season there.
- 6:26If I remember correctly, I think it's opening weekend somewhere in Minnesota.
- 6:31I know North Dakota. for residents opens this weekend, I believe.
- 6:35And then next weekend, it's only residents still. That's new this year.
- 6:38So if you're planning on going up there for open or non-resident,
- 6:42you're going to have to wait a couple extra days. Don't forget that.
- 6:45And, yeah, it's all kicking off here. We're here. I mean, it's time.
- 6:50Speaking of, I'm going to sidebar that strictly out of the fun of rabbit holes. Yeah.
- 6:57Did you see the IO? I mean, it has nothing to do with ducks,
- 6:59but IODNRs are introducing that they limit the amount of public hunting for
- 7:05a small game during deer season.
- 7:07No. I did see that, yeah. Non-residents can't hunt pheasants the first seven
- 7:13days of pheasant season, and then you cannot hunt squirrel rabbit and grouse,
- 7:17I think, or those three from October 3rd to November 3rd as a non-resident.
- 7:22A whole month? Yep.
- 7:24Wow. I mean, I guess in reality, I mean, I don't know. I don't do any of the
- 7:30above. Do we get a lot of non-residents come up here to do that?
- 7:32Oh, yeah. We get a pile of them from up north that do squirrel hunting on like 1,000 acres.
- 7:38And they'll do like weak camps that I've ran into. And they're just walking
- 7:41around playing, which public ground, you can't be mad about it, right?
- 7:45But yeah, a bunch of non-residents, like 1,000 acres is littered with non-residents
- 7:49doing some small game hunting.
- 7:50Now, my question to that is, is that on state-funded land? Or does it include
- 7:54federally funded land as well?
- 7:57I didn't read far enough into the bill to see if it included both or not.
- 8:02I would assume it has to be just state funded. Yeah, because,
- 8:05I mean, that's something that's similar to the Kansas situation that they're
- 8:09doing this year where non-residents can't hunt any WMA, whatever the hell it is, on certain days now.
- 8:15And it's one of those things that it's a big thing down there,
- 8:19and I guess it won't be as big of a thing here because not as many people come
- 8:22to Iowa and hunt, I would say, for waterfowl compared to down there.
- 8:27That's just a thing all around. Like, I mean, we talked about it,
- 8:29I think it was last week or the week before,
- 8:32on them, the government's limiting people, non-residents, and where they can
- 8:35go whenever it's their own tax dollars that are paying for it when it's federally
- 8:40funded. Like, that's, to me, that's just not right.
- 8:43Nope. Federally funded grounds should be open to anybody at any time.
- 8:48Yeah. As long as it's in season and you buy your license for a non-resident,
- 8:52you should not be limited on any kind of federal land that you're allowed to hunt on.
- 8:55Yeah. State ground, I can see the state catering to their residents,
- 8:59giving them an extra week or whatever to not have to deal with as many people and parties.
- 9:05But the federal stuff, I wish we'd kind of control some of that stuff.
- 9:10Yeah, I agree. I mean, you've got to take care of your residents.
- 9:13Your residents are the ones that are there paying taxes and owning businesses
- 9:17or whatever else. But yeah, the federally funded stuff.
- 9:21I should be able to go hunt any federal park or park. Oops. Any federal ground.
- 9:26And he stayed at that one.
- 9:29Well, you know, another thing too is like, how much does that affect local businesses?
- 9:33Like, I mean, here in Knoxville, we have the big lake, but I mean,
- 9:36our revenue is from the racetrack.
- 9:39I mean, without the racetrack, this town loses a lot. And then,
- 9:42but we just canceled late model nationals here last weekend.
- 9:46And look at, I mean, there was a, there was a decent little outcry on that.
- 9:49It's not near as big as our sprint car nationals, but it's still a big deal.
- 9:53Yeah, I've been seeing a lot, you know, airbnbs and stuff like that i mean granted
- 9:57it's not a small business per se but people with airbnbs that are like well
- 10:01shit now you know they booked it now they got a refund to the deposit or whatever and you've got,
- 10:07like i hate to include dingus right but dingus and,
- 10:10Yeah, I mean, you know, case of games and candies and stuff like that.
- 10:15Yeah, they're struggling a little bit.
- 10:17Not, again, they probably made their gold in August.
- 10:23Generally, our town is nationals for sprint cars, like 360, 410 nationals.
- 10:30I mean, that's where our money really comes in. But late model nationals does bring in money.
- 10:33But, I mean, just right off of that, though, I mean, how much does that affect?
- 10:37It wouldn't be on the same scale as what the 410 Nationals are,
- 10:40but it's in the same thing, same category.
- 10:43Them boys drink quite a bit, that late modern national crowd.
- 10:47Well, I'm just talking about for hunters, though. On these states,
- 10:50like Iowa, that just is doing what you just said.
- 10:55I would like to know. The groups that I have run across were strictly tent camping, eating.
- 11:04Oh man how do i word that so nicely while we're on a podcast eating they they're
- 11:08eating rice and squirrel meat probably,
- 11:13right if you're picking up you don't mean like no it's not but i mean the small
- 11:18game hunters realistically they're probably not bringing that much i mean we're
- 11:21not a big fasant destination we've got a few good spots right but
- 11:25right we're not it's comparing iowa kansas for ducks and iowa and,
- 11:29you know north dakota or south dakota for pheasant like we're not a giant destination
- 11:33for pheasants or anything like that,
- 11:35the frick just happened.
- 11:39No, and I mean, I used to live in North Dakota, so like we had a similar thing in North Dakota.
- 11:44Whenever North Dakota started to get more strict on all their regulations for
- 11:49waterfowl hunters, and it's changed the game there because like a lot of bars,
- 11:53local bars up there, that's where they make their money is duck season.
- 11:57Duck season and pheasants.
- 11:58Without those two things, a lot of them local bars up there and whatever,
- 12:03and motels, they don't survive.
- 12:05And it's all these laws changing where they're restricting like South Dakota's
- 12:09been doing it for years and I still think what North South Dakota does is kind
- 12:12of bullshit to a point but,
- 12:15I get it like you have your high
- 12:17destination place and you want to kind of control the crowd that comes in,
- 12:21but at the same time at one point do you hurt your own economy yeah and that's,
- 12:27it's yeah when you can look at it from both sides right because if I travel out of state for hunting,
- 12:32like I'm a big go to the local bar eat there, like I'm not a fast food guy by any means, right?
- 12:38So I'm always down to go to the local bar and have a few beers and eat local,
- 12:43or eat to smaller places, you know?
- 12:45So I get that, like on both sides of it, like yeah, that definitely sucks and has an impact.
- 12:51Every trip I've ever gone on. Now, when we were younger, we used to go to the
- 12:54bar and eat every night. Nowadays, we get a little smarter and we cook more
- 12:58nights than not and not go out as much. But we still go out, you know.
- 13:02Wasn't there a story about last year in North Dakota?
- 13:05Somebody didn't wake up on time. None of us woke up on time. Okay. None of us.
- 13:11The one night that we all went to the bar together, nobody woke up.
- 13:16The only person that woke up was Trevor, and that's because he didn't go to
- 13:18the bar with us all night. Correct.
- 13:21And he woke up and he's like, yeah, these guys are wrecked. I'm not waking them up. I am.
- 13:25But, I mean, I still make it a point. I like to go out one or two times when
- 13:29we're on a trip because you never know who you're going to run into.
- 13:32We met some boys from, they were from Maryland, I believe.
- 13:35Yep. And they were a good time.
- 13:38Honestly, we should have. I don't know if you got their number, but I never did.
- 13:41And we should have, you know, I've made a lot of friends that way or contacts
- 13:46through waterfowl hunting and not just to, like, contacts, like,
- 13:50Hey, you know, hit them up whenever you're in a certain area and see if they
- 13:52want to go hunting or they come out to you and you hunt or your trade hunts
- 13:54going back and forth, but.
- 13:57It goes the same way for work, too. I mean, I travel for work,
- 14:00so I see people all the time. And I've hooked up with people to hunt with through work.
- 14:05Yeah, no, I didn't get any of those guys' numbers. But, yeah,
- 14:08the two nights that we went to that bar, I mean, you could definitely tell that
- 14:15that group of guys was a little bit younger than us.
- 14:19They probably rebounded a little better the next morning when we didn't because,
- 14:25they got after it both nights. We were there, and then both mornings when we
- 14:29were leaving, their trucks were on and ready to go, too.
- 14:34Yeah, the one morning they were out there getting ready to hit the road as we
- 14:38were pulling out of the cabin we stayed at.
- 14:41I'm going to check the grill. I'll be right back, boys.
- 14:44Okay, goodbye. Hopefully it's not burning to the ground. Probably is.
- 14:49But no, I mean, so going off of that, I didn't know that.
- 14:54Did that just get announced? Is that if they're actually doing that this year or? Yeah.
- 14:58Yeah. No, I, I meant to send that in the group chat actually to spark conversation,
- 15:03but I just saw it maybe like two or three days ago or so. And yeah.
- 15:10Yeah. Bill, Bill just asked about it here. Bill, we were, we've been talking
- 15:14about that here and just talking about how we talked about it last week. You know what?
- 15:18I was asking these guys cause I hadn't heard it. I was asking these guys if
- 15:22it was a thing on federal land and state land, which like we talked about last
- 15:26week or whatever it was that it's on federal land too. It's kind of bullshit.
- 15:30I don't agree with it. I do agree with, you know, to a point on state land kind
- 15:35of catering to your residence for like an extra weekend or week to a point,
- 15:39but at some point you're going to hurt the economy too much.
- 15:42And it's just one of those things.
- 15:46Well, yeah, again, I think that it makes perfect sense to cater to your, your resident hunters.
- 15:51Anyways, like that is your perk of being a resident of this great state,
- 15:56whatever state that may be that people want to come and hunt is,
- 15:59hey, you live here. So you get this perk and you get to like hunt that week or weekend first.
- 16:06Axe, just to hit on this real quick, Axe asked if we've talked about the high water already.
- 16:11We've talked a little bit on it, Axe. We're going to get into that here in just
- 16:14a little bit when we finish up with this. But we're going to talk about water
- 16:17levels and just the upcoming season and what to expect out of the DNR and for
- 16:21the lake levels because it's going to be an interesting year.
- 16:24But we'll get to that here in just a bit when Zach gets back too because he's
- 16:27over there freaking charcoal and burgers up to hockey pucks as Jason said here in the comments as well.
- 16:33Yeah, I definitely want to wait until Zach and gets back to hit on the rest
- 16:37of the stuff that we have planned this weekend or sorry this week uh getting
- 16:42ready for the upcoming season and the water levels as well too because,
- 16:47yeah hopefully i mean i know obviously it it feels like every single year like,
- 16:53oh yeah like we're right on schedule well like this year with zach and i being
- 16:57so busy and obviously all this rain and it affecting like not necessarily what
- 17:03you're doing for work but how Cade's kind of moving.
- 17:08It feels like, oh shit, we really have this whole week to just crank everything
- 17:13out and then just go from there.
- 17:15It feels like this one kind of snuck up on us a little this year for sure.
- 17:19I mean, we've been talking about it. We just haven't been about it.
- 17:23I've been busy. I changed jobs recently and it's been juggling all that.
- 17:28I've been super busy as well as long as all of us really.
- 17:31I mean, obviously Cade hasn't been on here not on here again tonight because
- 17:34he's still dealing with race season stuff.
- 17:37And it's just part of it he should be I look to see him be pretty regular here
- 17:41anytime now as as race season's more or less over he's got maybe one or two
- 17:45races left on the schedule that he's gonna try to hit but right we'll see how that goes for him.
- 17:52It's definitely winded down. The weather's starting to change.
- 17:57We're all wearing hoodies. Pumped. One thing I will be pumped for is for it
- 18:01to quit freaking raining and drizzling so we can see the sun.
- 18:03That'd be awesome. Yeah.
- 18:06Yeah, I'm looking forward to it not raining anymore.
- 18:10I'm not exactly looking forward to what my yard's going to look like after stuff
- 18:14starts to dry out a little bit. If anyone has the hookup on a tractor and a
- 18:19baler, might need it for my backyard.
- 18:22Unsure yet that's no shit on that i'd talk about mowing your grass because bad
- 18:27deal yes we're all cooked on that for a while,
- 18:31bill also said like it's going to hurt us resource wise for an investment into
- 18:36habitat when it comes to that stuff limiting you know who gets to come hunt
- 18:40here and when they get to come hunt here and,
- 18:42it yeah i mean we talked about that just a little bit ago it's all around it
- 18:46hurts everything the local economies for the little bit that that the people
- 18:50do travel here to come do those like pheasant hunting and,
- 18:53all that but it's not as major of an impact as what deer hunting also would
- 18:58do like that's a major one we have,
- 19:00that they change all the time but i don't know it's going to be interesting
- 19:04just like many states are trying to do this stuff of limiting and i don't i
- 19:08don't exactly agree with the way that a lot of these states are going about it at all,
- 19:12sidebar Jason S 25 34,
- 19:16not hockey pucks.
- 19:18I make sure I put them way off the flame before I came down here that way it was.
- 19:24Why I mean it is 830 at night my guy and you are still cooking dinner like what
- 19:28are you what have you been doing all day brother we ate lunch at 2 o'clock all
- 19:32right her parents showed up at 7 with all this food,
- 19:35and I was out putting a primary clutch in a four wheeler and then I got hollered
- 19:41at and said are you going to run the grill?
- 19:43And that's why I was joined in the chat roughly 10 seconds before we went live. That'll happen.
- 19:52Yeah, that'll definitely happen. But. Well, let's move on to some stuff about.
- 19:59Bill, we're eating mac and cheese with brisket, homemade canned green beans, and cut up fillets.
- 20:08Like beef tenderloin, filet mignon.
- 20:10Hell yeah. Damn, dude. You should have invited all of us out. Yeah.
- 20:16No shit. Well, so Zach, are you going to be able to make it over here this week
- 20:20at all? I know we talked about it.
- 20:22Yeah, I think I'm going to... I'm thinking tomorrow. I'm going to sneak out
- 20:25of here. I'll probably... Baby's been eating about 8.
- 20:30I was able to get out of here today. I had to go pick up a bed frame and do
- 20:32a couple errands about 1 o'clock. So I think I'll get everything rolling.
- 20:36And yeah, I'll be over tomorrow. We'll work on the big boat a little bit.
- 20:41Yeah, I know I plan on... Tomorrow's plans are a lot.
- 20:45I plan on getting all the brush off the big boat, getting that done,
- 20:48and then cleaning the enclosed trailer because we got the stickers.
- 20:52Should be maybe done tomorrow.
- 20:54Tomorrow or Wednesday, it's happening.
- 20:58Got some decals coming for it. And then the little boat trailer,
- 21:01I'm going to get that rewired, so that is done.
- 21:04We got today, Austin came over and helped me this evening get the wires ran,
- 21:09and that was a mess from when we had anybody that's been listening to this podcast for a while.
- 21:14We talked about it back in December. Cade about crashed the little boat in the
- 21:17willows because the headlights quit working.
- 21:19And I finally figured that out. Hey, it looks sick now.
- 21:24There was two broken wires up in the front of that boat that just rubbed against,
- 21:28the channel that runs along the bottom of that boat and cut them in half.
- 21:32So I had to fix that wire, which is a nightmare since I put a fuel tank in the
- 21:37bow of that boat and you cannot get it back out. I welded it in there.
- 21:41It's not removable unless you cut the deck off.
- 21:44So I was kind of regretting that for a little bit today.
- 21:50And then we had to replace one of our marker lights on that because the Shark
- 21:53Eye green quit working. That was handy. Luckily, I had spares on hand.
- 21:59We played electrician for a little bit today. I mean, we definitely aren't electricians
- 22:04by any stretch, but we got the job done, and the lights work for the time being.
- 22:08Yeah, and we did blow a fuse for some reason right away, but I don't really
- 22:13know what happened there. I put a new fuse in it, and it is working,
- 22:16and didn't quit working. So we should be good.
- 22:20Let Pookie, you can bring the blockers over. We'll throw them in the big trailer tomorrow.
- 22:26I can do that after work. Oh, lockers. Yeah, he's got to pick them up yet.
- 22:32Yeah. Oh, I thought they were at your house. No, I'll do that tomorrow at 2 o'clock after. Okay.
- 22:37After work. Yeah, because we're cleaning that big one out. Might as well get
- 22:40them thrown in the front of that tank.
- 22:41Mm-hmm. Yeah, my biggest thing is I'm going to try to get it clean,
- 22:45like pressure washed on the outside to get it ready to, like,
- 22:48I got this. Put the vinyl on.
- 22:50Yeah, I've got this black paint polish so I can clean it up,
- 22:52make it look good, and get that vinyl put on there. And then this weekend is
- 22:55what I'm kind of looking at doing the inside of it.
- 22:58We ordered a solar panel kit for that. If anybody has any tips,
- 23:02tricks, and stuff like that, that they'd want to throw at us for,
- 23:06what they did, that they liked for building their enclosed trailer that they
- 23:09used to go either you're hunting locally or traveling around the country doing it, let us know.
- 23:13Like I'm always up for ideas on that. And we've got some ideas that I think
- 23:18we're going to like, but you never know. Sometimes other people have better
- 23:21ideas that you didn't, you don't think of.
- 23:24Speaking of anybody we're gonna be working on the trailers a little bit this
- 23:28weekend i think tyler offered to grill hamburgers and steaks for anybody who
- 23:32wanted to come help so if you guys are listening come on over sunday well i
- 23:36thought we were doing a hot dog eating contest,
- 23:38that's not really contest if i come.
- 23:42No i was gonna bring that up here as we got going real quick i seen curtis commented
- 23:47he asked if we film any of our hunts and curtis we do not as of now but here's the deal, Curtis.
- 23:53I said, hey, I'm going to order this camera that clips right here,
- 23:56right? So I can get a nice little POV action.
- 23:59And Tyler texted me and said, I'm not doing that. I'll look stupid.
- 24:02Doesn't matter. He looks dumb without the camera.
- 24:05So, either way, we're going to try to get some clips going this fall.
- 24:10I think, uh, I'm going to order one of those. You guys looked at those Max cams?
- 24:14I have not. So it's like the Shotcam. I was going to order a Shotcam for this fall.
- 24:19And they were, what, 700?
- 24:22Oh yeah, they're expensive. Yeah, Maxcam looked.
- 24:25I was looking some videos up and they were doing, or they were doing,
- 24:28they looked just as clear. And they're like $3.50.
- 24:33So.
- 24:34Yeah. No, we got, I mean, we do plan on doing some like GoPros. I got a DJI.
- 24:39Cade's got a fucking good camera. We plan on doing some more filming of it to
- 24:43a point and getting some at least reels out there. Because our reels do really
- 24:48well. I don't know how our reels do so well, but they do really well.
- 24:51And a lot of the people enjoy them.
- 24:53So that's our main focus this year.
- 24:55I am kind of looking into, in the next year or so, getting somebody to kind
- 25:01of come along with us and record some hunts and put some more YouTube content out there to a point.
- 25:07It's not really anything to try and make a living on, but just for fun and to
- 25:12kind of grow the podcast and see what kind of people we can get to come listen
- 25:17and hopefully people will enjoy it.
- 25:19I mean, we have a lot of fun hunts. So now we don't always kill the most ducks,
- 25:23but I can guarantee you it's always a good time in that blind.
- 25:26I think we're probably going to put more reels out this fall of the camera looking
- 25:31in the blind than we do of the camera looking out.
- 25:35That's where the action's at. Yeah, that's full of surprises.
- 25:40I mean, some of it's going to be rated R for what is said in the blind,
- 25:43but at any rate, your own risk. Mm-hmm.
- 25:47You'd be proud of me, Tyler. I probably won't, but what's up? I know.
- 25:52Ordered myself a waterproof coat today.
- 25:56Dang. Hopefully we can get Cade to do that. No, Cade already got one.
- 26:01Did he? Yeah. He got tired of working in the rain the other day.
- 26:05Oh, yeah. He bought a raincoat at work. Yep.
- 26:08Just bleep it out with a duck quacker. Well, here's the problem.
- 26:14The clip's just going to sound like a bunch of duck quacks. Yeah.
- 26:17Yeah, that's all you're going to hear.
- 26:18Quack you. It'll sound like a hunter in refuge. Quack quack you.
- 26:22Quack quack. Quack quack.
- 26:24Well, I tell you what. If you ask Siri, if you're ever having a really boring
- 26:28hunt, because this worked really well for us last year.
- 26:31If you're ever having a bad hunt and you're waiting around, like you haven't
- 26:34seen ducks in a while, and you just ask Siri, hey Siri what do I need to do
- 26:38to like what do we ask her or is it how do we bring how do,
- 26:42yeah how do we get ducks how do we get ducks to come in or something like that
- 26:45to come near us or something like that and then we she said what aggressive
- 26:49feed chuckling so we did you know like a merganser call,
- 26:53really really loud and really aggressively and we did the MGK on the duck call,
- 26:58and it wasn't two seconds later we had a group come in and we're just red well
- 27:03they would have came right in but I decided to play the,
- 27:06trombone as they were trying to come in and drop everything in the blind so
- 27:10that was super handy no it kind of really screwed us on that one so,
- 27:14dude i'm i'm really hoping that espn kind of locks it in for me this year,
- 27:20it was a little disappointing last year it was i'm not gonna lie especially
- 27:23after the numbers that put up the year before like it was pretty consistent
- 27:28two years ago like espn popped off like grab your shit,
- 27:33birds are here i think it was a pretty big letdown last year.
- 27:37I think it's going to be good this year. I did fairly decent in my gambling
- 27:41addiction on sports last year, and so far I'm owed for about $400,
- 27:45so I think ESPN's going to come in clutch during duck season.
- 27:50I need that.
- 27:52Damn it, boy. So yeah, no, back to grilling this weekend. If any of you consistently
- 27:57listen to the podcast or are new to the podcast and you're interested to come
- 28:01meet us, hang out with us, you know, this weekend, I'll be obviously here all
- 28:04weekend because I live here.
- 28:06But Zach and Austin will be in and out here and there and then Kate will be
- 28:09around. So if any of you want to come out, eat some food, I'll make a post on the page.
- 28:14Not sure what day we're going to do it. Depends on kind of how the weather works
- 28:17out if Kate's going to be here or not Saturday or Sunday and kind of how it
- 28:21all works out for all of us. I think kind of for my general sense. We plan it on Sunday?
- 28:25Sunday I think is going to work the best for all of us, no matter how we look at it.
- 28:29So we'll probably do it Sunday. Probably, you know, we'll probably all be around
- 28:33off and on. I'll be here all day. Kate will be around.
- 28:36I mean, then these two dingleberries should be around quite a bit.
- 28:39Yeah, at least for a few hours. Come check it out. Fair warning.
- 28:42Tyler's a douche in person. Absolutely.
- 28:45He's actually like really incredibly short too.
- 28:49You can't tell on the camera, but solid like five foot five five six right he
- 28:55sits about right here that's why he put him on the end of the boat so if they
- 28:58swing wide we can shoot over him,
- 29:01yeah he only drives the boat to uh stand on the top step so he can be the same
- 29:05height as all of us yeah yeah that's it you guys well it's real it's really
- 29:09annoying that he makes us crouch like my my thighs get tired after a while,
- 29:16No, but we'll make a post on there and then hit us up if we.
- 29:21A lot of people here know where I live, but you can also, I think, find it on the website.
- 29:27I think my address is on there for Willow's Edge Outdoors.
- 29:30I may or may not make the post on Facebook about it. Or I'll make a post about
- 29:33it on Facebook, and then I might just say message for details on where to come,
- 29:36or just put the address there. Either way.
- 29:38We'll figure it out here, but it will be Sunday. You can always message this.
- 29:41Zach Neuendorp on Facebook. I'll share it and just post his address.
- 29:45I don't give a shit. Mm-hmm.
- 29:47You don't even know where I live. Yeah, I do. It's shit. I don't know the actual
- 29:51address. I just know where it's at.
- 29:55It could be like a 1,400 block of East Pleasant. You would know, pig.
- 30:00Something oh all right whoa he's not a pig he's a window tent police that's
- 30:04crazy all right both of you,
- 30:08i'm over it don't make me but yeah so it should be
- 30:12i look forward to that it'd be cool if we get some people to show up from the
- 30:15podcast that listen to it and enjoy it and you know when we come hang out and
- 30:18see how we do things how we prep compare or ask ask us questions you know i mean,
- 30:24and tell us kind of how you do it i'm always it's always interesting to see
- 30:27how other people do it because,
- 30:29your way is not always the best way and sometimes other people have better ideas.
- 30:32Or just talk hunting stories.
- 30:34I'm more than happy having a beer and bullshitting, so.
- 30:37All right. That's cool. You know what? I don't drink.
- 30:42Beer apple juice with ice.
- 30:47But no that'll be fun I do look forward to that yeah and we should have this
- 30:52big boat should be ready at that point in time so if you want to come check it out see how,
- 30:56we kind of built our blind and all that stuff come check it out come check out
- 30:59the trailer come check out little boat all that stuff it's all fun,
- 31:04we may all fucking act tough during duck season but before and after we all
- 31:08get along for the most part mm-hmm,
- 31:11bill said what about a legend bill you're more than welcome to come buddy,
- 31:15oh yeah bill you can you can come i got a couch that's calling your name get
- 31:19drunk and stay with us yeah you have to sleep on the couch because puky already
- 31:22called dibs on the other half of the bed yep he sleeps on the same half,
- 31:28yeah i have a i have a standing appointment on that side of the bed actually so uh.
- 31:34Well what do we what's up let's kind of talk about let's move into some water
- 31:38levels and kind of what we're expecting for duck season here and i know not
- 31:43everybody hunts here at red rock but we do and that's all we care about so,
- 31:47what's what what are your guys's thoughts on these these water levels that we're
- 31:51experiencing with all this rain because we're getting more i mean the next the
- 31:5510-day forecast looks terrible for rain,
- 31:57and it's really took a turn of event quick,
- 32:01yeah i mean personally i'm excited i,
- 32:04i would rather keep it where it's at right if they're planning on bringing it
- 32:07747 i would be a little more excited if they kept it where it's at,
- 32:12versus dropping and then trying to bring it back,
- 32:15water isn't that high and it's gonna continue the fluctuation so i don't really
- 32:19know if you're benefiting much by dropping it and and trying to salvage what food there is or not,
- 32:25so i don't know i'm excited for some higher water period a little more places
- 32:28to hunt kind of spread some guys out hopefully i'm also giving some give ducts
- 32:32a little break in certain pockets if they can find it.
- 32:35Absolutely. I kind of agree with holding it where it's at. One thing I will
- 32:41say that I wish we would do,
- 32:44Man, what the fuck was I getting ready to say? That just wrecked.
- 32:46I was trying to change my screen up here so I could see stuff a little better.
- 32:49That was probably something dumb.
- 32:52Absolutely, it's always something dumb. Austin, what do you think?
- 32:56Yeah, no, I'm pumped to have water.
- 32:59I agree with you. I wish they would just keep it where it's at right now.
- 33:04If they already know that they want to bring it back up to this,
- 33:07I would prefer to just keep it.
- 33:08I am kind of excited. I know that the water level is coming down quick at this
- 33:14point, and we're trying to figure out schedules.
- 33:19For the rest of this week but it would be kind of nice to
- 33:22get out and kind of check it out and see what it looks like this early in the
- 33:27year and kind of with them spraying a whole bunch of the willows last year just
- 33:31to kind of see where we're at with all that,
- 33:35and yeah if i mean if they're going to bring it up to 747,
- 33:39or whatever like i'll be curious to see the places that we can hunt that haven't
- 33:44been able to be hunted in the last.
- 33:49Eight ten years right real real quick we're going to change change topic touch
- 33:53on this comment that trent just made trent commented and asked if we need any
- 33:57donations for marker poles trent this year,
- 34:01if if the water comes down in time or i can get out there and do markers i'm
- 34:04just gonna do it myself this year one thing i will say is if anybody's i know
- 34:09you've been here for a while listening to the podcast pretty much weekly,
- 34:13we've been working with the isc on starting something for waterfowl hunters
- 34:17in the state of iowa to kind of give them a voice outside of delta and du i
- 34:21know bill's involved with a group that's over on the missouri riverside,
- 34:25and that is making progress finally we're moving forward with making the right
- 34:29steps to getting that going so this year i'm going to just go ahead and handle
- 34:32it between between us for now,
- 34:34just because it's just it's just easier than trying to get donations right now
- 34:37but next year and years moving forward hopefully here the isc deal is going
- 34:42to be kicking off here you know we're hoping i think to roll that out this year
- 34:46zach or is that going to be a next year thing yeah,
- 34:49we got a meeting coming up here the next within a month here mid-october,
- 34:53if everything at that meeting looks good we got a couple more guys interested
- 34:56i think it's going to be something that takes off quick be a waterfowl and an upland bird division,
- 35:03but yeah i think i think by next.
- 35:07June july it's full bore we should be able to get some support from there and
- 35:13do some markers with that and i say i think we're hoping to be kind of full
- 35:17bore before the the deer classic right we are yeah absolutely full bore i just mean like,
- 35:22self-sufficient essentially by july hopefully kind of,
- 35:27depends on participation depends on members depends on donations depends on
- 35:32when we decide to do the banquet stuff like that so we we will keep you guys
- 35:36informed on stuff like that because the more members we can grow
- 35:39obviously the more we can put back directly here. So yeah.
- 35:44It's going to be a huge thing. There's not really a group around that I know
- 35:48of that other than some of the groups that Bill works with and we've been talking
- 35:52about it since last year in like December, January and we brought it up that it's going to be it.
- 35:57We were working on it then kind of we've been working on it the whole time.
- 36:02It's not like that we've really forgot about it. It's just been a work in progress.
- 36:07So we're trying to get to that point, and like Bill said, everybody bitches.
- 36:11It's just not, it's hard to get help, but when you can get a group like this
- 36:15together where you have a committee, and then you have members,
- 36:19and then we put stuff to votes, and it just,
- 36:22it is what it is, you know, as long as the majority votes or whatever we,
- 36:25whatever the committee comes up with, what kind of vote you need,
- 36:28that, you know, that's going to benefit the most people that want that is how it's going to be.
- 36:33It's not going to be just, you know, that committee just says,
- 36:36oh, no, we're doing this no matter what.
- 36:37But it's going to be a member-associated thing.
- 36:41And all the waterfowl hunters and upland hunters are going to have a voice in,
- 36:46what happens. And they can try and have their voices go somewhere instead of,
- 36:51just bitching on Facebook.
- 36:53Yeah. And then I was saying there's a lot of, I think a lot of it's bitching.
- 36:57I don't want to talk shit on either group, right? Because you should support a group.
- 37:01It doesn't matter which one. do you or or both or both you know the nice thing
- 37:05is with with us and kind of what we're working towards is going to be you know
- 37:1095 of what we raise is going to stay in iowa so,
- 37:14we're going to we're going to have a a big say now it's not millions like do
- 37:18you can put up right but it's,
- 37:19and it's going to be it it's not going to be a huge thing right away like like we're not going to have,
- 37:24thousands or millions of dollars just to throw at certain projects or do big
- 37:29things but if the more people that join the more people that get involved and
- 37:33the more involvement you get period and even if it's a smaller group,
- 37:37and spread the word it the more money you're going to have to put to places
- 37:41to help benefit your hunting and yep make your hunting more successful hopefully
- 37:46in the long run i mean obviously there is no guarantee in hunting it's hunting
- 37:49for a reason you just never know what you're going to kill,
- 37:52but it's mother nature that decides what you're going to get to kill that day yep,
- 37:57Or sometimes it's your hunting buddy that drops the vape in the boat and scares
- 38:03all the birds off. You can fuck off now.
- 38:07But no, I just wanted to, I just wanted, I seen Trent's comment,
- 38:10so I wanted to touch on that a little bit.
- 38:12We do, honestly, we really do appreciate the offer because it,
- 38:15I mean, that offer doesn't get brought up ever.
- 38:18I mean, I think that's the first offer that's been, I mean, a couple of buddies
- 38:22are like, hey, if you go out, let me know, I'll go with you, right?
- 38:24But well it's yeah so that's that's coming soon and it's definitely made more
- 38:29progress now than it has in the past seven months from when we talked about it originally so
- 38:34don't lose spirit we got stuff coming down the pipeline hopefully it turns into
- 38:38a good thing i mean obviously you never know with stuff because it's hard to
- 38:41get people to agree on anything,
- 38:44so but we're trying to do something to benefit not just waterfowl hunters but
- 38:47pheasant hunters as well and and everything you know make it,
- 38:50make because isc is already a big organization right so the more things you
- 38:54can do the better off you are for health and habitat in iowa,
- 38:57and with with the hunters i just want to point out that pf does the same shit
- 39:01that du or delta does so that's kind of why we include everybody right bunch
- 39:06of bunch of bird guys general.
- 39:09But to go back to the water thing because we i got sidetracked there but i wanted
- 39:13to touch on that because there was a comment there i seen and i wanted to i
- 39:16didn't want to forget about it so to touch on the plan i know I talked about this a couple weeks ago.
- 39:22The plan is October 3rd, which is a used season opener, to have the lake at 743.5.
- 39:29It looks like that's not going to quite happen because they're dropping the
- 39:31lake too much. It might be really close to that mark, so we'll be within two tenths or so.
- 39:36And then the plan is just to gradually raise the water until middle of November, get it to 747,
- 39:43and that's where they're going to hold it for the rest of the season and hopefully,
- 39:45through goose season because that'll be a game changer for goose hunting on
- 39:50the water. That'll be dirty.
- 39:54The biggest thing I'm excited for is when we get to 747, I mean,
- 39:57we have became a lot more popular of an area to hunt in central Iowa than ever
- 40:03before within the past two or three years.
- 40:05And it could be because of wild water followers and everybody talking about it.
- 40:08But it's, I mean, any given weekend, we've talked about this before,
- 40:12it's 35 rigs at the ramp every week nowadays until you get towards the end of
- 40:17November when you start seeing some ice.
- 40:18And then obviously some of the rigs, some people have little 14-footers and
- 40:22it's just a little bit more sketchy and they'd make the right decision to not
- 40:25go out those days. And, or, they're just pussies.
- 40:31Could be. Say it with your chest. Yeah. But, I mean, it's so,
- 40:38it's going to be a big deal.
- 40:39There's going to be a lot, a lot, a lot of area and there will be no excuse,
- 40:43should be no excuse, for people hunting close, right on top of each other this
- 40:47year. Whenever that water gets up to 746 even.
- 40:50And at 746, the amount of square footage we have of huntable acres with water
- 40:56on them is going to be insane.
- 40:58It's going to be nice, especially when you run into, you know,
- 41:01there's a few days last year with that many boats. And it's like when we showed
- 41:04up, you're like, holy shit.
- 41:06And then, you know, Pookie running a midnight shift or whatever and can get
- 41:10there at 9 a.m. And you go back and you're like, oh, my God,
- 41:13I thought there was a pile when we put off. And now there's double that.
- 41:18Yeah, imagine me pulling in there like,
- 41:22I just got off work, ran home, changed, meet you guys out there, and I'm like,
- 41:27oh my God, I'm driving through the parking lot, obviously, I'm the only one
- 41:30there, everybody else has launched, so curious me, I'm like,
- 41:34not from Marion County, not from Marion County, I'm like, there's people from
- 41:38all over, which, I mean, it's cool to see that it is,
- 41:43that it is so popular around here, but at the same time, it's like,
- 41:47I don't remember that from a couple of years ago.
- 41:52I love this comment. So Todd just said, and Todd's a legend in Iowa.
- 41:57Todd's been doing this forever.
- 41:59This will be his 47th Ducks season, and he can confirm that anytime the Rock
- 42:03is above 745, it's game on. And I would agree with him wholeheartedly on that.
- 42:09When we get water and we have the habitat that we have right now, it's game on.
- 42:17It is fun. And then we got Bill. So, Pookie, you're going to have to answer
- 42:21to that Bill said that you're the asshole that shows up at first light,
- 42:25Yeah, it's me, but it's always Tyler is the one that comes and picks me up So,
- 42:31actually, I mean, he's the asshole that drives through twice When he has to come and pick me up.
- 42:39Oh, yeah, dang And now Todd's saying he's calling me out for calling him old
- 42:43I didn't call you old, Todd I don't think anybody specifically said old I just
- 42:47said you're an Iowa legend, my guy. That is all.
- 42:51If anyone's old, it's Tyler. I mean, that's fine.
- 42:55We get it. You guys are just distinguished. Oh, and I do want to say,
- 43:00big shout-out here while we're talking about age, anybody that knows Cade,
- 43:03make sure you message him and tell him that he's one year older tomorrow. Yep.
- 43:08It is that. It is Cade's big day to be picked on tomorrow. Yep.
- 43:12It's good times. But no, it's going to be...
- 43:16I'm really excited for...
- 43:19I'm really excited to see how much water we have this season and how many birds
- 43:23we can hold. Because every year that we've had ample water and habitat like
- 43:26we currently have, we've gained some really good habitat through the past five years.
- 43:32And there's many acres that hasn't been, there's probably a thousand acres,
- 43:37if not more, that haven't been hunted in the past five or six years because
- 43:42there's been no water on it. And we're going to have water on that this year.
- 43:46I think it's going to be sweet. I think it's going to be a stellar year.
- 43:50If we hold what we're saying we're going to hold. Yeah.
- 43:56I'm not as excited for the refuge to have water because the refuge has been
- 43:59dry every year for the past few years, but the refuge is going to have water
- 44:02too. So it's going to hold birds this year.
- 44:06This comment, right? I want to take a second because I was not duck hunting
- 44:10in 2018. In 2018, I was only running goody poles up white breast.
- 44:16You missed out. and it was it was insane looking back i know what they were
- 44:21right then i was like oh birds oh my god cool birds and now that like obviously
- 44:26i can kind of identify birds a little bit except for them rainbow teal they still get me but,
- 44:32you know now it's like looking back i'm like dude like man if i would have been
- 44:35able to hunt or into the hunting the waterfowl hunting in 2018 it would have
- 44:39been amazing dude that was my i want to say that was when i my first year hunting in Iowa.
- 44:47And that was insane. Like everybody kept telling me like, Oh,
- 44:51you know, the hunting in Iowa is subpar.
- 44:53And I still don't believe them on that. Like I've had very, very good luck in
- 44:57Iowa since I've lived here. I got, I mean, I've had a couple down years,
- 45:00but I've never had necessarily terrible years. I can't say like,
- 45:03Oh yeah, this sucks in Iowa.
- 45:05I think Iowa is kind of a sleeper state when it comes to waterfowl hunting to
- 45:07a point in all honesty, I think it gets overlooked because we're everybody says
- 45:12it's flyover state. Maybe that's because they don't want people to come here
- 45:14and hunt or they just, Maybe you suck at hunting.
- 45:19It's, uh, that, that 2018 year was one that I will never forget.
- 45:24And I didn't have, I didn't know anybody here at that time. I knew my neighbor.
- 45:27I got him into duck hunting that year and then started meeting people as the year went on.
- 45:33Yeah. I made friends. And that's somehow I ended up knowing you two retards.
- 45:38Whoa. You knew, you knew Austin first, so I'm just the tag along retard.
- 45:46You're definitely the straggler behind us. yeah for sure we definitely did bring
- 45:51you along and somehow you stuck so here we are,
- 45:56remember how nervous he was to go hunting with me for the first time last year was it last year before,
- 46:01two years ago two years ago dude it's kind of just a thing with you like the
- 46:05first time i went hunting with you like,
- 46:09i wasn't really nervous i just didn't know who anyone was and then i saw that
- 46:14fucking window tail on your truck and was instantly pissed off but,
- 46:19we shot the fuck out of some geese that day yeah we did that was a good day
- 46:23and then we we had a couple good days on like we went goose hunting one other
- 46:26time on the lake that year and we shot a few geese should have probably had
- 46:30our limits and then yeah definitely we packed up before the snow hit,
- 46:34and then the snow hit as we go halfway across the lake and the geese were everywhere
- 46:37i'm like yeah that was that was i mean obviously i was brand new to it at that
- 46:42time but like as we're going across big water in the boat and there's just birds everywhere.
- 46:48I'm like, I don't know what's going on, but this is really cool and I would
- 46:52like to stay and do it again.
- 46:54Yeah. And since then, you've been hooked. Mm-hmm.
- 46:59But like Trenton says, we know the terrible years in Illinois at Illinois.
- 47:03Wow. Oof. That's... I just said that.
- 47:08Illinois, I think, is having way worse of years now than what we really remember.
- 47:14We had some bad years in the early 90s and mid-90s, but really by the time I
- 47:19started shooting, late 90s and early 2000s, it was getting to be pretty good
- 47:23hunting at that point in time.
- 47:26But it's way worse now, Bill. and I seen Bill mention that he's like what did he say here?
- 47:31That if it sucks he's going to be around my dad's neck of the woods and I feel
- 47:35like you're going to be highly disappointed Bill if you go down there because
- 47:38they don't kill shit down there anymore.
- 47:40It's like saying McDonald's sucks and going to Burger King. It's the same shit.
- 47:46Same shit. I have a feeling my dad will be up here hunting with us at some point this year.
- 47:51He's talked about it more and more and I think that's going to happen probably this year.
- 47:56I hope so with if like if we end up having this much water and he brings his
- 48:01boat up here and we have both boats rolling one i just think like we've talked
- 48:07about it for well ever since i've known you so for the last,
- 48:11three years three full hunting seasons like,
- 48:16we've talked about it and it's been hinted towards and like now i kind of just
- 48:20want to make it happen and want to just absolutely mow down like a fucking tin
- 48:25man or something. That'd be so cool.
- 48:27I mean, at the same time, I almost feel like I've somewhat hunted with the guy
- 48:31already because he calls, right? And we sit there and bullshit the boat and
- 48:35it's like, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 48:37Yeah. We're killing birds.
- 48:40Well, it's either that or like he'll, like we'll talk for like 20 seconds and
- 48:44it's either we see birds and we start calling or he sees birds and he's like,
- 48:48oh, just give me a second.
- 48:48And then we get to listen to them call for the next fucking 15 minutes and work birds. So.
- 48:54It's definitely interesting. I know you guys have never met him,
- 48:58and he's a riot to hunt with.
- 49:00But I think the people of Boxcar will shit their pants if they see my little
- 49:05boat, my dad's little boat, my big boat, and his big boat rolling out from the
- 49:08ramp. And don't forget K's little boat.
- 49:12His 12-litter? Yes.
- 49:17And Trenton, you definitely, you should come out here and hunt.
- 49:21I've been trying to talk you into that for years, but you are too stubborn to come out here.
- 49:24And I guess I can say the same for myself. I've been too stubborn to go out
- 49:27there to Hawkeye with you and hunt.
- 49:29But one of these days, we're going to make something work.
- 49:32For sure. I don't know. Going off your comment about talking to your dad and
- 49:38somebody's like, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 49:42That is the absolute worst feeling on days that you can't hunt and you call
- 49:47the guys and you're just bullshitting with them. And then all your ears,
- 49:51hold on, hold on, hold on. Just like, whack, whack, whack.
- 49:54Boom, boom, boom. I'm like, yeah, I hate it. I'm at work. Like I hate my life
- 49:58right now. I wish I could hunt all 60 days.
- 50:01I feel like the person that happens to the most though is Cade.
- 50:05Cade always gets pumped. Yeah. Especially the last couple of years,
- 50:10like two years ago, for sure.
- 50:12When it was primarily just me and you right out on a lot of weekday hunts,
- 50:17like he would call like three times a hunt.
- 50:21And to like that was the year that me and you were going every day basically
- 50:25and we were killing i mean we killed our limit pretty much every day like what was there,
- 50:31three times we didn't kill them i think you figured out or something like that
- 50:34yeah three times out of 17 hunts,
- 50:37no three times out of 21,
- 50:42hunts i believe yeah and that I
- 50:45mean, that was a good year. And a lot of people had a bad year that year.
- 50:48And I don't know if we just got lucky or what happened, but...
- 50:52I can't complain about it. That just kind of gets me hard because now I can,
- 50:56think about it as the fact that I got 12 weeks paternity to leave.
- 50:59So November's looking real open.
- 51:04It's going to be – I mean, I'm stoked about duck season every year.
- 51:07I think anybody that loves this sport and thinks about it year-round is – I
- 51:12mean, by the end of the season, I'm definitely like, yeah, fuck this.
- 51:15I'm ready for it to be over with. Let's get a little break so I can sleep in
- 51:18once on a weekend or a weekday.
- 51:20At least wake up not hungover. Yeah, but I think by, what, usually April,
- 51:28May. I think I know April for sure. I'm definitely already itching for it to be back.
- 51:33And a lot of people are, by June, for sure, just jonesing for it.
- 51:38So it's here. I would say it's about the time the nice-looking Spoonies show
- 51:44up. It's about the time I start.
- 51:47I'm like, damn it.
- 51:49You should have seen it today Zach we were fucking around fixing the lights
- 51:53on the boat like we're listening to music like we're shooting the shit and all
- 51:56of a sudden just one fucking solo hunk and I'm like hold on freeze,
- 52:03what fucking direction was that coming from? We both like run out the garage
- 52:07door and there go to just flying right over the building. I'm like, we're back.
- 52:13I was working on the four wheeler and I heard the same thing.
- 52:16And I'm just like, well, I sent you both to Snapchat. The geese are hanging
- 52:19out in my neighbor's pond.
- 52:20And I think he's gonna let me out of this year, but I just sit in there for
- 52:24a four wheeler, like underneath the minister. I'm like, Oh, you know,
- 52:30that can crawl out from a four wheeler real quick.
- 52:33Real quick, Michael asked me a question. He said, Tyler, is Johnny going to
- 52:37give you any time off from the new gig?
- 52:39And I didn't give him a choice, Michael. I told him in the beginning straight
- 52:43up with him that that's the only time of year that I really went off.
- 52:46So that's already agreed upon and he's aware, but I don't think he realizes
- 52:53just how much time I take off to a point.
- 52:55Like I told him at least middle of November through December, I take off like,
- 53:00one of those guys that I kind of wish our duck season didn't start in beginning of October. Oh, yeah!
- 53:11Oh. Brett. Why? Oh, Brett.
- 53:15Something else. What a cuck. Jesus. But no, it's going to be cool.
- 53:21We got a lot of content that we're going to be making over this next seven days.
- 53:25As we're kind of going through the boats, getting stuff fixed,
- 53:29we didn't really get any content today of fixing the headlights on the boat
- 53:31and the running lights because that was an absolute freaking nightmare.
- 53:34You wouldn't know how to watch it.
- 53:36Nightmare, no lights in the shop, a lot of cuss words.
- 53:41Yeah. I knew it was going to be, like, I knew pretty much what the problem was.
- 53:45I knew there was a wire that either pulled out of a butt splice somewhere or there was broken wire.
- 53:49I just didn't realize it was going to be underneath the bow in front of the
- 53:51fuel tank that I can't remove and can't get behind. So, that was fun,
- 53:55but it's fixed and everything works now.
- 53:58But we should have a bunch of content coming out with how we grasp the boat,
- 54:01kind of what holds our willows on, all the good stuff.
- 54:06And then, like I said, like we said earlier, for all the new listeners that
- 54:10may be listening to this podcast or in the live stream tonight, hit us up.
- 54:14Sunday is the tentative plan, but probably going to be Sunday that we'll have
- 54:18a cookout and we'll all be in and out over here at the old MIG Valley house.
- 54:24We got the giant goose spread in the pasture.
- 54:27And we'll have the boats out, trailer out kind of go over some stuff get cleaning
- 54:32get to bullshitting put you to work absolutely if you show up bring your gloves
- 54:36or just be ready to work yeah bring your gloves or don't have soft hands.
- 54:42Yeah, so Zach has gloves on at all times. I got short fingers.
- 54:49This has been a good podcast. This has been fun. We didn't have any notes tonight.
- 54:56It's been a hectic summer for all of us, and it's been a hectic couple weeks
- 55:00here for us as well. It just feels like it's not going to stop.
- 55:03It's going, and we're trying to get more content out to you guys,
- 55:07trying to get these podcasts back on a weekly basis now that it's fucking hunting
- 55:11season. and it's time to grind and kill some shit. Oh, try it, boys.
- 55:14And to all the deer hunters, I think bow season starts, what,
- 55:17the first or when is that? Thursday, baby. Yep, Thursday. So...
- 55:20Ain't ready for that either.
- 55:22Yeah. Hell yeah. It's all kicking off and it's the time of year that anybody
- 55:27that's listening to the podcast fucking enjoys and looks forward to the rest of the year.
- 55:31So, we're here. Best time of the year. Yep.
- 55:34We fucking made it. Damn straight.
- 55:37But I think that's going to about wrap this one up. I feel like...
- 55:40I mean, What do you guys think? Nope. Perfect. Ended on a good note.
- 55:44Everybody go kill some shit. Have a good time. Life's a garden. Dig it.
- 55:48Life's a garden. Dig it. Thanks, Joe Dirt. Yeah, he's something else.

- 56:33And I don't know what he's going to do with the hockey pucks after that.
- 56:36But peace out good luck chill some shit.
