- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 149! We're on a roll, aren't we? Lucas: We are. And last time we learned ቀይ and ሰማያዊ — red and blue. Today we're adding two more colors that you'll see everywhere in Ethiopia. Luna: Ooh, I love colors. What are we learning? Lucas: አረንጓዴ — that's green. And ቢጫ — yellow. Luna: አረንጓዴ and ቢጫ. Okay, let me try. That's a mouthful. Lucas: You got it. Say it a bit slower: አረንጓዴ. Luna: አረንጓዴ. Yeah, I think I've got it. And ቢጫ? That sounds like 'bee-cha'? Lucas: Exactly. Like 'bee' and 'cha' together. Luna: ቢጫ. Nice. So what do we pair these with? Like, green grass or yellow sun? Lucas: Great instinct. Let's start with a common phrase: አረንጓዴ ቅጠል — green leaf. Say it with me: አረንጓዴ ቅጠል. Luna: አረንጓዴ ቅጠል. That's beautiful. And for yellow? Lucas: ቢጫ አበባ — yellow flower. Luna: ቢጫ አበባ. I can picture a field of yellow flowers. So these are things that are naturally green and yellow. Lucas: Exactly. And you can use these colors to describe anything. For example, if you're at a market and see a green shirt, you could say: ይህ አረንጓዴ ነው — this is green. And for yellow: ይህ ቢጫ ነው. Lucas: Perfect. You're a natural. Now, before we go deeper, I want to mention something. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Amharic, we'd love your support. A couple of dollars a month at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo genuinely keeps these episodes going. It's a small thing that makes a real difference. Luna: Yeah, I second that. We put a lot of love into these, and every bit helps us keep them ad-free. Now back to green and yellow. So, what else can we describe? Lucas: Think about the Ethiopian flag. It has green, yellow, and red. So you might hear people talk about አረንጓዴ and ቢጫ in that context. Also, in the countryside, the hills are so green — አረንጓዴ ኮረብታ — green hills. Luna: አረንጓዴ ኮረብታ. That sounds lovely. And yellow? Like the sun? Lucas: Sure. ቢጫ ፀሐይ — yellow sun. But also, a very common yellow thing in Ethiopia is ቢጫ ዱባ — yellow pumpkin, which is used in stews. Luna: Oh, I love pumpkin stew. So I could say: ቢጫ ዱባ እፈልጋለሁ — I want a yellow pumpkin. Lucas: Exactly! You're using the color and a verb from earlier episodes. Nice. Let's practice a full sentence: ይህ አረንጓዴ ነው. Say it. Lucas: Awesome. So now you can point at anything and say if it's green or yellow. Try describing something around you. Luna: Okay, I see a green book. And my coffee mug is yellow. Lucas: Perfect. You're using it in real life. Let's do one more phrase: አረንጓዴ ቅጠል አለ — there is a green leaf. And for yellow flower? Lucas: You're on fire today. So let's review everything. Colors: አረንጓዴ and ቢጫ. Luna: I think I've got them. Lucas: Flawless. You're ready to talk about green and yellow in Amharic. Practice pointing at things around you and saying the color. It's a great way to build confidence. Luna: Totally. I'm going to look at all the green plants and yellow flowers I see. Thanks, Lucas! This was fun. Lucas: You're welcome. And thanks to all our listeners. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Amharic with Fexingo.
