- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: This is the Almost Famous podcast. We're here in San Francisco. Yes,
- 0:09Speaker 2: this is the weekend of the Almost Famous golf tournament,
- 0:11Speaker 2: which will be an annual thing probably for the next
- 0:13Speaker 2: thirty years. Because I'll be working for Almost Famous for
- 0:16Speaker 2: the next thirty years. I'll be sixty years old talking
- 0:18Speaker 2: about the Bachelor. That's cool, right, right, It's very cool. Yeah,
- 0:20Speaker 2: that's a really cool place to be. But this is
- 0:23Speaker 2: the first year of it. The reason we're doing it
- 0:25Speaker 2: is to bring people together because in this bachelor world,
- 0:28Speaker 2: it's a little chaotic. It's not a lot of time
- 0:31Speaker 2: just to sit back and hang out and just be
- 0:33Speaker 2: together with people outside of your season. Today, we have
- 0:37Speaker 2: somebody I've always been super intrigued by for multiple reasons.
- 0:40Speaker 2: One of those is because the girls in the Almost
- 0:41Speaker 2: Famous podcasts really love Greg Grippo.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Oh that's sweet.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Yeah, they really do.
- 0:45Speaker 2: In fact, one of the girls that work for the
- 0:49Speaker 2: Almost Fans podcast said, all of her friends are super
- 0:52Speaker 2: excited to meet Greg Gripple.
- 0:54Speaker 3: That's sweet. I feel like I haven't met any of them.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Yeah, they're nervous.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'm nervous come on this gracious, Greg, welcome, I'm glad
- 1:04Speaker 2: to be here.
- 1:05Speaker 4: You're sporting our brand already, I am. I have had
- 1:08Speaker 4: this for years. What is the true story of why
- 1:11Speaker 4: you're wearing our T shirt?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Andrew and I were playing. It was a little bowling
- 1:16Speaker 3: ball game outside in the yard, and then he whipped
- 1:20Speaker 3: the ball at me. Wind hit my chest. Shirt gone.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I said, you know what, I'm gonna rock the almost
- 1:25Speaker 3: famous scare for the rest of night.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It's a good workout shirt. You can cut the sleeves
- 1:29Speaker 2: out of it if you like a little tight, a
- 1:30Speaker 2: little snug, but I'll take it. It's it's one that
- 1:33Speaker 2: I don't even own. I saw you, I said, I'm
- 1:36Speaker 2: gonna get one. That'd be nice. It probably is my
- 1:39Speaker 2: face in the back, doesn't it. Actually no, it doesn't.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Wild Greg, you have had a wild ride through this franchise. Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 2: tell me if I'm wrong. My assumption of you has
- 1:53Speaker 2: always been this show is not something that you were
- 1:57Speaker 2: seeking after.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I don't think it's I wasn't. To
- 2:04Speaker 3: be honest with you, I mean I got called uh
- 2:09Speaker 3: three times for the show. Twice I turned it down
- 2:12Speaker 3: third time. I said it before and I'll say it again.
- 2:16Speaker 3: It was on my dad's anniversary. Uh. I was during COVID.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I was living in New York City working a job
- 2:22Speaker 3: I didn't love, and I was just like, screw it. Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 3: you know what bachelor has some sick dates. Let me
- 2:26Speaker 3: travel a little bit. I mean it was a bubble season,
- 2:28Speaker 3: but we went to New Mexico, and I mean I
- 2:31Speaker 3: was single at the time, and I just it was
- 2:32Speaker 3: a shot in the dark. My sister ended up submitting
- 2:36Speaker 3: me years prior. They called me for Becca kuferin season.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I was way too young for that, and then Claire's
- 2:44Speaker 3: and I was also not ready enough for that, and
- 2:48Speaker 3: then uh, Katie's. It was just right timing.
- 2:51Speaker 4: So like when it comes to you and Katie, let's
- 2:54Speaker 4: start there.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you get on this show that you weren't you
- 2:57Speaker 2: know they said no to multiple times? Yeah, like why
- 3:00Speaker 2: was Katie as the bachelorrette something that you were like,
- 3:02Speaker 2: this is the one I would go for.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I you never Also, I feel like
- 3:09Speaker 3: I don't know about you, but for me, I was
- 3:11Speaker 3: never one hundred percent sure that it was kat Katie.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I mean we were hearing groomors and I was like,
- 3:15Speaker 3: all right, it's definitely gonna probably be Katie. I was
- 3:17Speaker 3: hoping it was gonna be Katie. But I think it
- 3:20Speaker 3: was just the place that at least I thought I
- 3:23Speaker 3: was in at the time, and I thought that I
- 3:26Speaker 3: was in a good enough place. And I also just
- 3:29Speaker 3: like kind of just like wanted to take a chance
- 3:31Speaker 3: at something and it was exciting to me, and I
- 3:35Speaker 3: was just like, you know what, at the end of
- 3:36Speaker 3: the day, I could get sent home night one and
- 3:38Speaker 3: that's also okay, and like I was fine with that.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I would agree with you because my season of
- 3:43Speaker 2: The Bachelor, at I didn't know who the bachelottes were
- 3:45Speaker 2: going to be and it was two, so they too.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I had two that season and that was a wild
- 3:52Speaker 2: ride because then they made you choose on night one
- 3:54Speaker 2: which one you wanted, you voted, and then one stayed
- 3:56Speaker 2: and one went home.
- 3:58Speaker 4: That's interesting.
- 3:59Speaker 2: That's so the complaint that like you were never there
- 4:03Speaker 2: for the right reasons is one that like, not that
- 4:06Speaker 2: you have that complaint, I'm saying in general, like anybody
- 4:08Speaker 2: gets the complaint like you weren't there for the bachelorrette,
- 4:10Speaker 2: It's like, well, no, you didn't really know who it was, right, Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 2: Like of course I wasn't maybe there for the bachelors exactly.
- 4:16Speaker 2: You know, no until you show up.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, no, you have no idea. I mean, it's just
- 4:19Speaker 3: like you know, you're hoping at the end of the day, like, hey,
- 4:22Speaker 3: I could have a connection with the person, but you
- 4:24Speaker 3: also feel like it's a long shot also because it's
- 4:29Speaker 3: hard to envision when you really don't know one hundred
- 4:31Speaker 3: percent who the person is.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And then you went through it and things started to
- 4:35Speaker 2: change for you, like feelings started to grow, emotions started
- 4:39Speaker 2: to come out, you went through this whole thing. We
- 4:41Speaker 2: obviously know how your season the Bachelorette ended, but your
- 4:44Speaker 2: story really started post Bachelorette, like where you were a
- 4:48Speaker 2: fan favorite, like you.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Really it depends on who you're asking, I think.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I mean, I think you listen to the critics more
- 4:54Speaker 2: than you hear the like compliments. But I think in general,
- 4:56Speaker 2: from my perspective as an outsider, like people loved you.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Yeah, well, it's it's nice to know that that you
- 5:02Speaker 3: at least took it like that. I mean I felt
- 5:06Speaker 3: at least right right out of the show, right out
- 5:08Speaker 3: of the gate, not in the beginning to I'm talking
- 5:10Speaker 3: about towards the n as soon as I left, I mean,
- 5:12Speaker 3: I was it was. It was a scary time, at
- 5:15Speaker 3: least for me and at least like I was. It
- 5:20Speaker 3: was just like a humbling experience, and I I felt
- 5:25Speaker 3: like I was just like a shell of myself during
- 5:26Speaker 3: the time. But it I feel like I cracked out
- 5:30Speaker 3: of that in the last year or so, so I
- 5:32Speaker 3: feel like I'm in a good spot right now. But
- 5:35Speaker 3: during it all, it was rough.
- 5:36Speaker 4: You felt like the world was like coming at you
- 5:41Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 5:42Speaker 3: I wouldn't say coming at me. It just felt like
- 5:44Speaker 3: a lot all at once.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Did it affect your personal life.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah, without a doubt.
- 5:48Speaker 4: How did you deal with that?
- 5:52Speaker 3: Gosh went back to therapy. I mean, I discovered that
- 5:57Speaker 3: I had so much to work on, even like post
- 6:01Speaker 3: like stuff with like my father and like my family
- 6:05Speaker 3: dynamic that I had to work out on my own,
- 6:07Speaker 3: you know, my own grief towards him and and you know,
- 6:13Speaker 3: sadness towards how I was feeling with my own family dynamic.
- 6:16Speaker 3: You know, leaving my mom by herself was just a
- 6:19Speaker 3: struggle for me, And there was just so much personal
- 6:23Speaker 3: things I had to go through that, Like I was
- 6:25Speaker 3: figuring out that, like Okay, maybe I wasn't ready for
- 6:28Speaker 3: this at the end of the day.
- 6:30Speaker 2: So I don't know if this question will come off
- 6:34Speaker 2: It will probably come off a little intrusive. But without
- 6:37Speaker 2: the show, m how would you have confronted those things
- 6:42Speaker 2: that obviously were needing to be confronted at some point?
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, just not knowing when they would have been.
- 6:49Speaker 3: You know, it's tough to say, you know, because in
- 6:54Speaker 3: what happened in life and my reality, I mean, it
- 6:56Speaker 3: was maximized to put it right into my face and
- 7:01Speaker 3: to show me that I needed to continue therapy and
- 7:04Speaker 3: continue work on myself. And I mean, hey, it like
- 7:07Speaker 3: it took. I mean, I've been off the show fraud.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I think it's like three years at this point, and uh,
- 7:14Speaker 3: I finally feel like I'm in like the healthiest spot since,
- 7:20Speaker 3: like my dad got sick.
- 7:23Speaker 2: But obviously that's I mean, to the viewers who don't
- 7:27Speaker 2: know the behind the scenes, don't know the work you're doing,
- 7:29Speaker 2: don't know where I think they're going to hear that
- 7:31Speaker 2: and be like that's interesting because you obviously are now
- 7:34Speaker 2: still single, right, and so you come off a very
- 7:37Speaker 2: public breakup, so at some point in this whole thing,
- 7:40Speaker 2: you decide to come back on national television and announce
- 7:44Speaker 2: a new relationship and walk into that whole path, right, Like,
- 7:49Speaker 2: how did that even get to the point where you
- 7:52Speaker 2: were saying, yeah, I'll go back on TV. Not maybe
- 7:55Speaker 2: even like ideally, but just I'm going to go back
- 7:57Speaker 2: on television and announce a relationship again, start this whole
- 8:00Speaker 2: new journey.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I mean I was in I was head over eels
- 8:03Speaker 3: for I was she uh, and I saw the backglass
- 8:08Speaker 3: that she was getting and and knowing what she was
- 8:14Speaker 3: about to walk into at that reunion, I mean her
- 8:17Speaker 3: and I were having discussions. I really didn't want to
- 8:19Speaker 3: go on, but I was also getting every one in
- 8:23Speaker 3: my circle was telling me not to. But at the
- 8:25Speaker 3: end of the day, like I was like, if we're
- 8:27Speaker 3: going to do this, I'm gonna have to stick this
- 8:28Speaker 3: out with you, and I just I went out there.
- 8:32Speaker 3: We kinda went and uh went to the gauntlet and
- 8:36Speaker 3: uh took it to the head and uh, I mean
- 8:39Speaker 3: it was it was. It was a tough way to
- 8:40Speaker 3: start everything for us, but I feel like there was
- 8:45Speaker 3: no other way.
- 8:46Speaker 4: So you went back on television.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Did you feel like the response was similar to your
- 8:51Speaker 2: time in the show or did you, like, were you
- 8:53Speaker 2: in a different place coming off of that.
- 8:55Speaker 3: No, I feel like I was in a better spot
- 8:57Speaker 3: because I feel like I was. I think that her
- 9:01Speaker 3: and I both knew that it was gonna be pretty tough.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I think my toughest during that time. You know, I
- 9:08Speaker 3: said this on Jason's that like it was the toughest
- 9:12Speaker 3: bar about it always seeing how it affected her. Yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 3: it was, Uh, the world was really hurtful towards her,
- 9:20Speaker 3: which sucked in it, and it was it was hard
- 9:23Speaker 3: to see.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I didn't feel and it's been a bit since I
- 9:27Speaker 2: saw that interview. I didn't feel like you had a
- 9:29Speaker 2: defensive spirit, like it felt like you were very much
- 9:33Speaker 2: in this place of no like like her or not,
- 9:35Speaker 2: this is where we're at.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I was so content and happy. I
- 9:40Speaker 3: mean contense probably, I mean I think intense a good word. Yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 3: And I think that her and I both knew that
- 9:49Speaker 3: the way we started off, and whether people believed it
- 9:53Speaker 3: or not, we knew that that was the truth of
- 9:57Speaker 3: it all and we felt certain about it. And that's
- 9:59Speaker 3: why I was out there.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like it wasn't as a viewer, I
- 10:03Speaker 2: don't think as a for me, as a negative. It
- 10:06Speaker 2: is like, no, there's no like defensiveness. Like you're not
- 10:08Speaker 2: like reacting to the comments and the questions. You're you're
- 10:11Speaker 2: just answering them. Yeah, because it's where you're at in life. Yeah,
- 10:14Speaker 2: you're gonna move forward absolutely.
- 10:16Speaker 4: How long ago was that?
- 10:17Speaker 3: Uh? What was that?
- 10:18Speaker 1: Was that?
- 10:19Speaker 3: Two years ago? At this point? I think it was.
- 10:31Speaker 2: So now you're back out into the world two years
- 10:33Speaker 2: ago in a new relationship that ends at some point
- 10:38Speaker 2: here along the journey, and you're sitting here with us today. Yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 2: do you, like, can you catch us up on where
- 10:44Speaker 2: you're at mentally just as a human outside of you know,
- 10:49Speaker 2: the ending of that and entering into the new world again.
- 10:52Speaker 2: You talked about your journey of getting back healthy, confronting
- 10:55Speaker 2: some of the things you wanted to or needed to
- 10:57Speaker 2: confront that you maybe even know you need to confront.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Yeah, where are you at today?
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah? I think that's like the biggest thing is that
- 11:02Speaker 3: like a lot of the things you need to confront.
- 11:05Speaker 3: That's the most frustrating part about it is that you
- 11:07Speaker 3: don't maybe don't realize in the moment that you need
- 11:09Speaker 3: to confront and like looking back on it all and
- 11:11Speaker 3: like I think taking some a step away from dating
- 11:16Speaker 3: has been the healthiest thing for me. And it's been
- 11:19Speaker 3: what what month is at August? I mean it's been
- 11:23Speaker 3: what six months or since seven months since uh her
- 11:27Speaker 3: and I have ended at this point, and I haven't
- 11:29Speaker 3: been dating, and it's been feeling really good to just
- 11:32Speaker 3: worry about myself, focus on myself, and it's I feel
- 11:37Speaker 3: just like I'm in a healthy spot.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I really do.
- 11:39Speaker 3: And it's felt like this has been needed and I
- 11:46Speaker 3: feel good about it all.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Is there anything else you'd like to say about that,
- 11:49Speaker 2: Like just that relationship ending because the public. I mean,
- 11:52Speaker 2: you guys kept it a secret, like you did you
- 11:55Speaker 2: and then you're entitled to that. Yeah, I don't need
- 11:58Speaker 2: to give you an apology for that, like you're titled
- 12:00Speaker 2: to however you want to process that. But it ended,
- 12:03Speaker 2: and everybody was kind of like, you know, the people
- 12:05Speaker 2: that celebrate you are like, I don't know.
- 12:07Speaker 3: No, I get it, I get it. I mean I
- 12:08Speaker 3: think that I think maybe her and I were just
- 12:11Speaker 3: a little timid because of how brutal things started with
- 12:16Speaker 3: the public. And you know, I again, she's incredible, She's
- 12:21Speaker 3: an incredible person. I wish her all good things in life,
- 12:26Speaker 3: and there's nothing bad to say. There's nothing bad about
- 12:30Speaker 3: how we ended it. We just ended up working out.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 2: One of the things to transition here that I've always
- 12:37Speaker 2: found impressive with you and a few others, you guys
- 12:41Speaker 2: have a group of friends. Yeah, unlike any other season
- 12:47Speaker 2: of the show. I have friends for my season. Right,
- 12:50Speaker 2: there's a few ID name I'm not going to because
- 12:52Speaker 2: I would forget somebody and then I get in trouble
- 12:54Speaker 2: for it. But there's a few people I still keep
- 12:57Speaker 2: very close ties with. But your friendships from the show
- 13:00Speaker 2: are like best friends. They would I've interviewed some of them,
- 13:04Speaker 2: and they would fight for you with every word they say.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Yeah, they they've got your back. What caused that?
- 13:11Speaker 2: Was it just right timing, right place, or what kind
- 13:13Speaker 2: of cultivated this friendship that we've never seen come out
- 13:16Speaker 2: of that seat?
- 13:16Speaker 3: Like one season, man, I I really just got lucky
- 13:20Speaker 3: with the group of the guys that I was with,
- 13:23Speaker 3: And I think being in that in in like a
- 13:26Speaker 3: little bubble season helped a lot. We just spent a
- 13:29Speaker 3: shit ton of time together where we weren't traveling, where
- 13:33Speaker 3: all we had to do was just talk. We saw
- 13:36Speaker 3: each other's true sides right off the bat, and I
- 13:40Speaker 3: mean those guys are you know, Justin and Andrew Trey
- 13:44Speaker 3: are my brothers. I mean, yeah, Andrew and I have
- 13:49Speaker 3: helped me through rough times now in life. They've seen
- 13:52Speaker 3: me through many seasons of my life now and I
- 13:55Speaker 3: consider them family at this point.
- 13:57Speaker 4: I feel it, man.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I mean, I know you probably don't actively listening to
- 14:01Speaker 2: the almost of his podcast, but.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Listened to a few episodes.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Thank you, buddy. Yeah, it means a lot to me.
- 14:06Speaker 2: You know, wear you're wearing our brand new issue.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Listen to some.
- 14:09Speaker 2: But I would say interviewing those guys, especially a few
- 14:11Speaker 2: months ago when we're in Beverly Hills, like they would.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Fight for you.
- 14:14Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
- 14:15Speaker 2: They've got every like every word they say, has your bag?
- 14:19Speaker 4: So you're now single?
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I have to be one of the most eligible
- 14:24Speaker 2: bachelors in New York City. That sweet, You haven't dated
- 14:27Speaker 2: in seven months? What is outside of romance or even
- 14:30Speaker 2: inside of romance?
- 14:31Speaker 1: Like?
- 14:31Speaker 4: What is life? What are you hopeful for moving forward?
- 14:37Speaker 3: You know, I think family is the most important thing
- 14:39Speaker 3: to me, and I'm hopeful that I'm going to find
- 14:46Speaker 3: a person soon enough. In the next hopefully within three years.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I'm hoping. I'm like giving myself a realistic timetable, and
- 14:55Speaker 3: i'd like to buy a house, and i'd like to
- 14:57Speaker 3: start settling down at some point in my life and
- 15:00Speaker 3: start building roots. And yeah, I mean that's kind of
- 15:04Speaker 3: like where my mindset is. I'm not putting any rush
- 15:07Speaker 3: on it. I'm not really going to put a you know,
- 15:10Speaker 3: a strict timeline on it. But at the moment, I'm
- 15:14Speaker 3: content with being alone and i'd rather and I'd rather
- 15:19Speaker 3: continue to work on myself than rush into anything. And
- 15:22Speaker 3: I'm just at a good spot in my life. And
- 15:25Speaker 3: you know, I've been traveling a lot with Andrew, been
- 15:28Speaker 3: working a lot with him, and uh, I'm just excited
- 15:32Speaker 3: for the next step. Whenever that is. I feel like
- 15:33Speaker 3: it's going to come unexpectedly, so we'll see. Now.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Final question, you've gone through the Bachelor world, You've gone
- 15:42Speaker 2: through a relationship outside of that world, but still kind
- 15:45Speaker 2: of in it. Like, what are you looking for in
- 15:48Speaker 2: in your partner? I mean for me and I'll and
- 15:50Speaker 2: I'll give you a little buffer here, Like I learned
- 15:52Speaker 2: a lot from my failed relationship from the show on
- 15:55Speaker 2: what I was looking for when it comes to my
- 15:57Speaker 2: partner for life just you know, not because anybody was bad,
- 16:01Speaker 2: It was just because we're different.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 2: But what do you now, like what characteristics stand out
- 16:05Speaker 2: to you in this next partner of yours?
- 16:08Speaker 3: Hm hmm, characteristics of my next partner? I you know,
- 16:16Speaker 3: I think, and this is not a knock on any
- 16:22Speaker 3: of my past relationships about what they were lacking at all.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I think. You know, what's important to me is that
