- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes it.
- 0:11All starts. Right now, welcome back to the
- 0:16Three O Take presented by C Keek.
- 0:17This is episode 397 and I'll be your host, Kyle Corn.
- 0:20And I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:25Nate. Good morning everyone.
- 0:29Happy. Happy Saturday.
- 0:31This has got to be. Got to be our first Saturday
- 0:36episode. I was thinking first, maybe
- 0:39second. Ever.
- 0:40Yeah. Yeah, I like it.
- 0:42Having coffee. Yeah.
- 0:44Cup of cup of Morning Joe over there.
- 0:46Well, it's almost lunchtime here, but Morning Joe for you.
- 0:50It's pretty neat. Hey, can we can we can we clap
- 0:54it up? Let's clap it up.
- 0:59Let's clap it up. We got some competitive
- 1:01baseball. For once, I almost forgot what
- 1:06it was like to watch a competitive baseball game.
- 1:08I forgot what it was like to have my my blood pressure
- 1:11affected by whatever it was that I was watching.
- 1:16We hadn't. We hadn't seen that up until
- 1:18about two days ago. I'm here for it.
- 1:25Before we get into it, I need I I have.
- 1:28I have a cell. Oh, OK.
- 1:32I'm excited about these games, don't get me wrong.
- 1:35But I I do have a cell. Here's my cell.
- 1:43I don't. Yeah, I know, I know, I know.
- 1:49I'm selling the MLB rulebook. OK, we have seen, we have seen,
- 2:06we've been told on a on A tag play, the laces of a glove are
- 2:16not considered part of the glove in this post season.
- 2:23We have seen the laces of a glove qualify as a catcher's
- 2:28interference, and now we're seeing batting gloves in a back
- 2:36pocket be considered part of a base runner.
- 2:44Where do we draw the line? Help me with this math.
- 2:50Yeah, this math ain't math. And I honestly can't tell you
- 2:54because I probably could have held my own in this conversation
- 2:59about this rule pre oven MIT introduction.
- 3:03But once they introduced that, I I just, I don't know like what's
- 3:09considered the core of the rule anymore and what's considered
- 3:15like. It's very great accessory.
- 3:17I don't understand it. It's very Gray, that Bang, Bang
- 3:22play. Where Simeon got doubled off at
- 3:24first base. I don't get it.
- 3:32I don't get it. How do the batting gloves in a
- 3:35back pocket qualify? There's so much Gray area.
- 3:45I don't. I don't see how it's fair.
- 3:52It's a little bit of like a it was a little bit of like a it's
- 3:56a pivotal moment for that to happen.
- 4:00So and then I mean the catcher's interference we had a couple
- 4:05weeks ago definitely a pivotal moment.
- 4:12I just it and I'm not blaming the umpires.
- 4:14I'm blaming the rule book. I'm blaming that like we need to
- 4:18make adjustments when these rules were written.
- 4:22I don't even think anyone was using batting gloves, so there's
- 4:26nothing to stick out of the back pocket.
- 4:29I think the umpires lately have just been going with what?
- 4:33What? Helps the vibes.
- 4:34Yeah, like, what do we what do we think will really get the
- 4:39people going right now? Yeah, do we want to count the
- 4:42batting gloves right now or do we not want to count the betting
- 4:44gloves? We want this double provocative.
- 4:48Yeah. Gets people going.
- 4:49I don't know. That's a good sell though.
- 4:52I appreciate it. I I hadn't really considered
- 4:55that given everything else that had taken place.
- 4:57But I think if you if you look at it though, you think you're
- 5:01right. Series of events don't add up to
- 5:04me. Math ain't mathen what?
- 5:08What else isn't? Mathen is the fact that no home
- 5:11team has won a game in this ALCS and it's very, very 2019 World
- 5:19Series esque, very circa 2019. Yeah.
- 5:28Which is why I'm not worried for the Rangers like all these.
- 5:30Like, I I see Rangers fans saying while the series is over
- 5:33and Phillies fans alike, just to kind of bring them into the
- 5:36conversation. I have Philly fans tweeting at
- 5:38me being like series is over. I got no faith.
- 5:42What are we talking about? Like, sure, Yeah.
- 5:44If you're the Rangers looking at them, you would have liked to
- 5:47have at least won a game at home.
- 5:51But Houston is the the the Stroh's are cheeks at home.
- 5:58So you at least that have you. You at least have that working
- 6:01for you. I mean, I'm not going to wish
- 6:06injury on somebody, but if you're the Rangers, you kind of
- 6:10hope that Altuve stubs his toe getting off the plane.
- 6:16I don't. I don't know how to manage that.
- 6:25I I mean, hate the guy all you want, but this is it's getting
- 6:29out of control. I'm so tired of it.
- 6:33I've yet to figure out how a guy of his stature does what he
- 6:38does. He gets grounded so well as a
- 6:44hitter. He's got such a good base.
- 6:49And that's it, man. Like, that's what the young
- 6:53hitters If you ever are undersized and you got somebody
- 6:57to watch and and you want to add pop, oh, it all starts with the
- 7:01base. He's not doing anything else
- 7:05that's super special. He just got a really strong
- 7:07base. Yes, he dives really hard, but
- 7:12man can he get grounded. It's nuts.
- 7:18It's it's, I'm, I'm over it. I'm kind of, I'm kind of tired
- 7:20of it. But you got to respect it, dude.
- 7:23You got to respect it. You guys really good at
- 7:26baseball, and he does it in crazy moments.
- 7:31I saw Pedro, which I'm like Pedro's been been known to say,
- 7:36some erratic things at times, but I saw he said that he thinks
- 7:40Altuve will go down as the best second baseman of all time.
- 7:47I'll be honest, I haven't even really checked the numbers, but
- 7:52even with as good as he's been, that seems a little much.
- 7:55No? Or I mean is that within reach?
- 8:01Definitely recency bias in that comment.
- 8:07I think with the postseason opportunities, it's inflated.
- 8:11I would. I would assume if we looked at
- 8:12numbers we wouldn't be overly impressed.
- 8:15As far as, like, the best ever? Sure.
- 8:20Probably a Hall of Famer. But yeah, the the, the
- 8:25postseason numbers really kind of bolster that up.
- 8:29No, I mean I'll give him the Hall of Famer.
- 8:31I don't, I don't, like I said, haven't even checked the
- 8:34numbers. But I I feel like I can safely
- 8:36say that he's a Hall of Famer. But it's the greatest of all
- 8:39time. Conversation is what gives me a
- 8:42little bit of pause. But.
- 8:44The tough thing is that, like I, for so long in our game, like
- 8:50the second baseman, was just a defensive specialist.
- 8:55You know what I mean? He was like the right fielder of
- 8:58the infield, just a guy that. Right.
- 9:00Could play baseball, but you needed you needed to stick him
- 9:04somewhere. 49.3 Career WAR little over 2000 hits.
- 9:13A little over 200 home runs. He is hitting over 300 in his
- 9:19career. Yeah, that's a Hall of Famer.
- 9:26We'll get to. We'll get to the big Altuve
- 9:27moment. Talking about a Hall of Famer
- 9:36potentially is not pitched like a Hall of Famer as of late in
- 9:42the postseason. Max Scherzer going back to game
- 9:45three, the Rangers drop game three eight to five.
- 9:50This was the beginning of the Astros three-game run in
- 9:55Arlington. We talked about last episode.
- 9:59We said this. You want to talk about pivotal
- 10:02moment? I I don't think game three was
- 10:06the game to play with house money.
- 10:08If you're the Rangers, you needed to get that third win
- 10:11under your belt before you went to Scherzer.
- 10:13That's my opinion and that's not hindsight.
- 10:15We were talking about that before he even took the took the
- 10:19mound because. Everyone knew, like we said, if
- 10:21you're the Rangers, this is your opportunity to get back in the
- 10:25series. Like you could not ask for a
- 10:26better match up in my opinion. And people might think, well,
- 10:30that sounds odd because we're talking about Max Scherzer.
- 10:32Yeah, we're talking about Max Scherzer, who has not had the
- 10:34greatest track record as of late with arm health down the
- 10:40stretch, especially coming off of the IL not too long ago.
- 10:43And we said this is the opportunity if you're the Astros
- 10:46get back into it and what do they do?
- 10:48Jump on them right away. And then from that point
- 10:51forward, the Rangers, really, I mean the they said the What was
- 10:57it? The home team hadn't held the
- 10:59lead until late what? Yesterday?
- 11:03I think game five makes sense. The game, honestly.
- 11:09The games all run. Run.
- 11:11They all blend together. Yeah, it's like 1 big game for
- 11:13me, but I get what you're saying.
- 11:16But that's just what I don't think that was the move.
- 11:21We gave, we gave so much credit to Bochi 4.
- 11:26I'm not ready to. I'm not ready to turn on him,
- 11:28but no. But this was extremely
- 11:31predictable his his last three postseason starts, he's given up
- 11:3614 runs, six home runs and his and each start, respectively 4
- 11:41and a third, four and 2/3 and four Indians pitch.
- 11:45You die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become
- 11:50the villain. He's the villain.
- 11:53It's there. OK, I want to get your take on
- 11:56this. I threw out the idea.
- 11:58I said if he goes out there and just flops, like I said, if he
- 12:04gets like, you know, gives up two or three.
- 12:06Like, not not vintage Scherzer, but he at least gives you enough
- 12:10to keep you in the game. We entertain the idea of him
- 12:14returning for another start should they advance, whatever
- 12:17the situation may be. Given what we saw in Game 3,
- 12:22should the Rangers find a way to advance to the World Series?
- 12:25Is Max Scherzer getting the ball for you?
- 12:27He has to, He has to this. The tough thing is that this
- 12:32bullpen is so freaking taxed. It was already, yeah, a fairly
- 12:37average bullpen coming in. They've over performed, they've
- 12:41done fairly well, minus yesterday, but you don't have
- 12:49enough options. I would say, I mean because now,
- 12:57now if if the Rangers do win it, it has to go seven.
- 13:02I would say that you it's got to be like an early in the series
- 13:08start. It can't be a pivotal moment.
- 13:11It can't be a pivotal game. It's got to be early enough to
- 13:15where, like you have the ability to recover from whatever he
- 13:17does. I would my I mean, if I were
- 13:23calling the shots here, I would say the opposite.
- 13:26I would say save it for late and not give him a start.
- 13:29Let him come out for like a piggyback.
- 13:31Roll I mean, I think late in the series.
- 13:33Yeah, ideally it should be. What did they do?
- 13:39They piggybacked Dane Dunning off of Heaney, right?
- 13:44Yes, because Heaney got the start in game.
- 13:48And how quick that was A quick four, wasn't it?
- 13:50Yeah, he only went 2/3. Give up three runs.
- 14:00I don't love that Dane Dunning also gave up three runs.
- 14:05But Dane Dunning ate ate some time, didn't he?
- 14:07Didn't he eat some innings two and 2/3?
- 14:10Dang, I thought that was better. Yeah, ideally, I would like to
- 14:16get a full start out of one of those guys and then slide
- 14:19Scherzer in for the piggyback off of one of those names.
- 14:26It's just tough, man. Like I The way you saw Heaney
- 14:30carve up the Orioles, you thought there was maybe some
- 14:34magic there. Yeah, no magic.
- 14:40No magic, yeah. But Scherzer is officially
- 14:47cooked. I mean it.
- 14:50I think there's got to be some serious, serious retirement
- 14:55discussions. Yeah, I I don't see him.
- 15:05If it were up to me, which it's obviously not, I don't.
- 15:07I wouldn't give him the ball for a start.
- 15:09I would. I would give him a out of the
- 15:11pen roll, piggyback roll, something like that to at least
- 15:15get Scherzer in there to eat up a few in.
- 15:18Which sounds crazy 'cause we're talking about Max Scherzer, we
- 15:20shouldn't be talking about having him eat up Indians.
- 15:22But based on what he's shown us, that's that's really all.
- 15:25At this point, that's all you can really hope for.
- 15:27You can't even rely on that. That's what you would hope for.
- 15:30He's a He's still got like, what, two years?
- 15:37Oh no, he's a free agent answer this year, right?
- 15:45Oh, no, no, no. One more year.
- 15:46One more year. Yeah, 2024, yeah.
- 15:50I wonder if the Rangers are willing to eat some of that.
- 15:55Why not? Little reunion here in Arizona
- 15:59Can't let it come full circle. You know I love those.
- 16:03I love the final goodbye tour with the original team.
- 16:09Why not Madison Bumgarner reincarnated just with the the
- 16:13angry old guy like. Just one year, kind of washed.
- 16:17Kind of washed yelling at the clouds.
- 16:20Yeah, I don't know. I mean, there's nothing else.
- 16:26Nowhere else I could see it happening.
- 16:31Props to Jose Abreu having quite the series.
- 16:35A Freaking. Nuke.
- 16:37What's he got four in this series or four in the
- 16:39postseason? Four in the postseason.
- 16:42I think he's having. He's having himself quite a
- 16:45month after a rather, can we say pedestrian year or am I thinking
- 16:54of last year? Was it last year?
- 16:56That last year was not great. This year is better, but still
- 17:00not like Jose Abreu 23718 palms not.
- 17:05Not the Jose Abreu they hope to sign.
- 17:07I'll call it pedestrian. But he plays every day.
- 17:12He's a vet, he's a gamer, and he's doing well in this
- 17:16postseason, so a lot of that stuff can get corrected.
- 17:24Alvarez, Jordan Alvarez and Jose Bray, the first team mates in
- 17:27postseason history with at least 4 homers and 10 ribbies in their
- 17:30team's first eight playoff games.
- 17:33They're, I mean, along with Altuve, they're driving this
- 17:36offense right now, yeah. What was that?
- 17:40Was that Wednesday? Thursday.
- 17:43Bases loaded, Jordan takes it all the way to the track for a
- 17:46SAC fly and the Rangers are like, oh, deep breath and then
- 17:50next thing you knew that was game.
- 17:52Four, yeah. That's when they put up 10 on
- 17:54the on Rangers, yeah. Next thing you knew Jose Brayu 3
- 18:00run bomb, which if you're if you're mathing with us, that
- 18:05pretty much counts as a Grand Slam anyway.
- 18:08So them them being back-to-back and and what's great is that
- 18:16like it's forcing the Rangers to to throw to your dawn, it's
- 18:22forcing them no longer can you just work around obviously not
- 18:27situation space loaded, but in general no longer you able to
- 18:31just kind of work around your dawn because you have a pushover
- 18:36behind them. Jose Abreu is providing juice.
- 18:41I'm impressed. I'm surprised.
- 18:43I'm impressed. Yeah, he's he's one of those
- 18:48guys that going into the playoffs that it's not a guy
- 18:51that you're banking on providing you this level of production,
- 18:54but when you get it, you need it.
- 18:56You see what you see, how it how it affects the team and how it.
- 19:00And and I think I just, I don't think Kyle Tucker has done
- 19:03anything. I haven't heard his name at all.
- 19:07Yeah, not much of not much A note I I think you would have
- 19:12coming into it on paper. You would have thought that he
- 19:14would be doing what Abreu's doing, giving you that that
- 19:18jolt. Yeah, but they're making it
- 19:24work, man. Yeah, I just, I just don't know
- 19:27how you drop 3 at home. I get the whole like no home
- 19:30team is is doing well in this series but like to go up to to.
- 19:38Yeah, to do what you what you should have done given the way
- 19:42the Astros been playing at home and taking taking the 1st 2IN in
- 19:47Houston if you just take one at home.
- 19:53You're still ahead. It's.
- 19:54You remove that advantage. You've lost the advantage,
- 19:59clearly. I mean, we were talking about
- 20:03these series potentially being sweeps with the way that the
- 20:08Phillies and Rangers jumped out to those leads.
- 20:10And it wasn't just like it wasn't just a by happenstance
- 20:16scenario. Like it was very convincing
- 20:18where it's like, OK, it seems as though the the Astros have
- 20:23reached the end of their Rd. It seems like the D backs were
- 20:28well overmatched coming in into this series after the first two
- 20:31games, and here we are. Both series slipped on their.
- 20:34Heads. Now we're bawling.
- 20:36Now we're bawling. Should we talk about Mr. Adolis?
- 20:41What? What's?
- 20:43Oh yeah, Game. Game five.
- 20:45Haven't even got the game five. Look, nobody, and I mean nobody.
- 20:52Unless you're an absolute idiot, which I don't know.
- 20:56Brian a brave. I don't want to sit here and say
- 20:58he is. I don't want to say anybody is
- 20:59an idiot, especially if I don't know him.
- 21:02Brian Abreu. I have to.
- 21:05I have to imagine he's not throwing intentionally.
- 21:07Who in the right mind is putting a second guy on in?
- 21:14What the was that the 8th, 7th. It was late.
- 21:19Who's putting on a a second guy on base late in the game, in a
- 21:23postseason game? I think that's because of the
- 21:27way he responded after hitting a home run.
- 21:28That's why he got tossed. Yeah, that's why Dusty was
- 21:31losing it. Yeah, the comment that the
- 21:41comment, well, First off what do you, what did you think of the
- 21:44the home run celebration was it I mean based on what we've seen
- 21:48the last few years and like these big moments, I think it
- 21:51was just right there in the middle of all those others.
- 21:54I don't think it was any worse any.
- 21:55No. Yeah, the whole place.
- 21:58No worse Slam. I was locked in on the dugout,
- 22:03like, was not staring down any particular one.
- 22:07Like any one particular member of the other team.
- 22:10He's locked in on his guys. That's a big moment too.
- 22:14And is it like I'm just? Off of Verlander, I'm just so
- 22:20tired and even, Verlander said. After that, he's like, I had no
- 22:23problem with that. Like it's a big moment.
- 22:25He's like, I I get it, which I'm like, OK, I got to tip my cap to
- 22:28that. Like he at least understands the
- 22:30magnitude of the situation, but like.
- 22:33It's been beef all year, though. We got to we got to remember
- 22:36that it it just it's been built up.
- 22:40The Tollies had done this before in the regular season and
- 22:43there's been responses in the regular season, I guess.
- 22:48The the tough moment, the Obviously.
- 22:53We all know the result of of the Altuve home run and and things
- 22:56like that, which we'll get to in a SEC.
- 22:57But I I think the the Martin Maldonado quote, but he's he's
- 23:06100% right. Like if you're a doll, he's
- 23:09right there and you wear that, you got it.
- 23:12You just got to be like OK, like whatever.
- 23:15That's the only response they get, if it is on purpose, if
- 23:19that is planned. That's the only response they
- 23:23can have. You hit a three run bomb, right?
- 23:26Yeah. And you get nailed if you let
- 23:31that. If you shrug that off, you got
- 23:34you got two guys on now and the Astros, if that is planned.
- 23:41The Astros, like you're you're doing that to get a response.
- 23:45You're doing that to send a message if it is planned.
- 23:51Oh boy, phone's going nuts. You're doing that to try and get
- 23:57juiced up in some way. So it's like, why give that to
- 24:02them? Why provide that again if
- 24:06Planned Nate, Do the Houston Astros win the game if Fidelis
- 24:12Garcia doesn't respond? I'd love, I'd love to say no.
- 24:21I'd love to say no. We'll never know.
- 24:25But there's something about I love the catcher beef, by the
- 24:32way. I love when they when the
- 24:35catcher is involved in this stuff more than the pitcher.
- 24:41Yeah, he was. He was getting close to Adolis,
- 24:44was getting close to getting his hands on him.
- 24:46He was like tossing the UMP around a little bit.
- 24:48I'm like my guy, Let's cool it. All right?
- 24:50Do you. We're gonna need you for the
- 24:51rest of the series. That man is built like a
- 24:56freaking running back dude. Adolis Garcia is a He's built.
- 25:00He's like a linebacker playing outfield.
- 25:02It's insane. The guy's jacked.
- 25:07Props to the umpire for stepping in.
- 25:09Yeah, the real MVP of the of the night.
- 25:13My goodness. Like, you have to think as an
- 25:18umpire there's like a level of or like a degree of
- 25:21invincibility because you're like these.
- 25:24These guys would have to come absolutely unhinged for anything
- 25:27to happen to me. And the odds of that happening
- 25:29are slim to none. But also like you're you're
- 25:32you're essentially staring down the barrel of an Adolis Garcia
- 25:37gun, which I don't know if I'm exactly.
- 25:40I'm not thrilled about that. I'm not billed for that.
- 25:42I'm not billed for that. I'm not where he's essentially
- 25:47just seeing red. I'm not.
- 25:48I'm not. Yeah, not billed for that.
- 25:53And then as we mentioned the Jose Altuve home run, I mean
- 25:57talk about turning the tables when he made contact.
- 26:03I I don't even know what I. Thought it looked like a lot of
- 26:07label. It looked like he didn't really
- 26:09catch the barrel. And I was like, especially
- 26:13watching Evan Turner like or Evan Evan Carter like work his
- 26:17way back to the track. I was like, I think we're OK.
- 26:19I think we're OK. I think we're OK, not OK.
- 26:27It's it's one of those scenarios where you have all of the
- 26:35ingredients laid out for just a storybook moment, but you're
- 26:40just like it just it doesn't happen here, right?
- 26:43Like, the odds are just stacked against him that the odds of
- 26:48something like this happening aren't great.
- 26:52It's Leclerc who's been good. Leclerc.
- 26:54Yeah, it makes it makes too much sense for this to not happen.
- 26:58But it's Jose Altuve and this seems to be what he does.
- 27:04He's now got. I think I saw the second most
- 27:07postseason home runs in baseball behind Manny Ramirez.
- 27:13And like I was telling you, I just don't get.
- 27:15I don't get how a guy with his, with his stature does what he
- 27:19does. I'm going to be 100% honest with
- 27:22our listeners right now. We had the game on at the
- 27:25office. I thought it was good to leave.
- 27:31I thought I was OK. So I missed it.
- 27:40Was there no, just kind of slide that in there?
- 27:43Yeah, so was there. So I missed it.
- 27:46Yeah. Anyway.
- 27:47Was there any point? That the camera like panned into
- 27:54the bullpen or the dugout, Wherever Chapman was, I don't
- 28:02recall seeing. Chapman show a Chapman reaction
- 28:04to that. I didn't recall seeing Chapman,
- 28:06but I saw the. Coolest thing.
- 28:08Like APTSD, You know, like curled up in a ball on the floor
- 28:13of the dugout kind of moment, yeah.
- 28:15You see Chapman with like, his army helmet on.
- 28:17You get explosions, like going off in the background.
- 28:19He's just like. Frozen teams like.
- 28:22Erotis, it's not you. You're not out there.
- 28:25You still haven't had your moment yet, Erotis.
- 28:27Get back. Come back to us, buddy.
- 28:31No, but I saw the coolest thing, which I'm sure it happens more
- 28:36than more than this particular instance.
- 28:39But when they pant, when they showed the reaction, the Houston
- 28:42dugout dude, they were all like packed, like sardines at the end
- 28:46of the dugout, trying to like see over each other to see if
- 28:50the ball made it into the scans. It wasn't just like, they're all
- 28:54they all stayed in their spots and they're all just watching it
- 28:56and they're like, Oh yeah, let's go.
- 28:57Like, they immediately everybody was up, down, packed down the
- 29:02the far end of the dugout. It was pretty cool, pretty cool.
- 29:06But you're going to have to figure out a way to manage this,
- 29:12to contain what Jose Altuve's doing, because I don't care what
- 29:16the Astros do at home or how they've been playing at home as
- 29:20of late. Yeah, that doesn't matter for
- 29:22Jose Altuve. Apparently, like he, he is going
- 29:25to have a significant role I would imagine, or an impact in
- 29:31however many games are are still to be played, whether that's
- 29:34one, whether that's two. He will have his moment.
- 29:38Also, I mean, I I'm a sucker. I'm a sucker for sick defensive
- 29:45plays. And we've we're talking about a
- 29:48guy who is really good defensively, has gone through
- 29:51stages of having yips. He made a play Thursday had to
- 30:00be Thursday, ball up the middle, jump, throw gets him at 1st.
- 30:06And I don't know man, there's just like when things are going
- 30:09out two days away things are going.
- 30:11When all things are working that way, it's watch out, watch out.
- 30:19Game changer. Let's switch gears here.
- 30:23I'm sure there's more we could get into, but we need to for the
- 30:26second time, let's move on to the NLCSAA stint of games that
- 30:38started off rather weird when this thing shifted to Arizona.
- 30:44All of a sudden you you start seeing these reports of Philly's
- 30:47fans buying tickets in bulk. And I thought, right off the bat
- 30:53that's a bogus report because nobody has.
- 30:56There aren't enough people to purchase that many tickets for
- 31:01this to warrant a report. But it wasn't until I saw how
- 31:06little they were going for that I said, oh, I could do that if I
- 31:10wanted to. The tickets were going for $9.
- 31:14Yeah dude, for Game 3. Talk about ye who have little
- 31:18faith, bro. What are we doing?
- 31:22Who chose that? And again, you got people in the
- 31:27comments talking about, Did you forget that people have to work?
- 31:34Let let's just have a quick a little heart to heart.
- 31:37Here I think it's ball break these people for a lot of these
- 31:40kids. So even even aside from that,
- 31:46what do you want Major League Baseball to do?
- 31:49Because I saw people talking about how I I saw how you got
- 31:53people talking about, well, you're just catering to the East
- 31:56Coast. It's not that you're catering to
- 31:57the East Coast. You're catering to the rest of
- 31:59the country. Like, OK, so the game has to
- 32:03start a little bit earlier, and that sucks for the people out
- 32:05West. But, like, the reality of it is
- 32:07the rest of the country's day is 2-3 hours ahead of you.
- 32:12So, like, I mean, just think of it as like a compromise.
- 32:16Games like this, you have to start a little early.
- 32:18But for the rest of the year, anybody out here that wants to
- 32:20watch a game out there doesn't start out here.
- 32:24It doesn't start till 10:00 PM and that's a 7:00 game out
- 32:27there. That's beside the point.
- 32:32It's the playoffs and it's this is this carries even more weight
- 32:37than the conversation we had a week or two ago about the wild
- 32:40card and Tampa and all that. That was the Wild Card.
- 32:44I could maybe even slightly understand that.
- 32:46I still think because it's the playoffs, it shouldn't matter.
- 32:49But this is the NLCS. What are we doing?
- 32:52Why is this conversation still being had?
- 32:54Like take off from work? You have have a conversation
- 32:58with your boss. You have this thing called PTO.
- 33:01Or at least you should like take a day.
- 33:04We had conversations in my office.
- 33:08Get the get the whole. Yeah, get the whole office up.
- 33:12Say, you know what, Hey, let's just, let's just chalk up today
- 33:14as an L Let's go catch a game. Let's go catch a ball game.
- 33:18Have a couple D back dogs. Like, I don't know, but stop
- 33:22trying to tell me. Like, we have to work.
- 33:26You're the one telling me all the time because you're out
- 33:29there. Nobody works out there.
- 33:30You said everybody just you're either golfing vacation mode.
- 33:36So like. Especially working from home.
- 33:38You're just like, yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to head
- 33:39home. You don't know the office in the
- 33:42morning. You're like, all right, I'm
- 33:43going to head home around lunch. So answer a couple emails.
- 33:49Spare me. Yeah, spare me the whole.
- 33:50We got a work thing. That's that's insane.
- 33:53Credit to them though. They packed it out.
- 33:55I don't know what transpired from that's what that's what
- 33:59transpired. A dub.
- 34:01No, I'm talking about from between that report coming out
- 34:04and game time. Be like, I don't know if D backs
- 34:07fans like, Oh well, there's a game today, let's go.
- 34:09You think there, Do you think there's a guy that's just like
- 34:13looking at the numbers and he's like, let's set it at $9 and
- 34:22then all of a sudden they get a win and he's like.
- 34:26Let's go up to 121 dollars like. Is there one guy that's just
- 34:31like, looking at it, he's like pricing it, You know, you ever
- 34:36see that storage Wars show where they're like, yeah.
- 34:40They buy a storage unit and they're like, I'll I'll give you
- 34:42$800.00 for that. I don't know.
- 34:48Yeah I don't understand what's what's going on here but I I
- 34:51suggested to USA you should go to the to game five tonight and
- 34:54then you're like, yeah. I think the prices went up and I
- 34:56checked and I I think it was like 135.
- 34:58So we've gone in two days we've gone from $9 to like 130 a 140.
- 35:03So I guess that's what a that's what a couple dubs will do for
- 35:07you. But credit to the snakes man
- 35:09snakes alive. How about it?
- 35:13Totally flipping the script. Good.
- 35:16Baseball, I will say for Thursday's game, Man, forget
- 35:25what day it is sometimes Thursday's game.
- 35:28That was the two, one ball game, right?
- 35:32Yeah, Yep. 2 to one. That was the.
- 35:39What was that? That was Marte.
- 35:40Yeah. Marte.
- 35:41Single in the in the night. For such a well.
- 35:46Play defensive game really like things kind of started to
- 35:50unravel a little bit with errors and and strange plays and for
- 36:00the I think Bryce scored on that pass ball and then you just see
- 36:07like just strange stuff. It's it's weird for a game to
- 36:12just totally flip and you see a couple errors and a couple like.
- 36:16Whether it's not errors or like mental mistakes or whatever,
- 36:19completely flipped the game. But overall, I mean, I don't.
- 36:24That Diamondbacks game didn't need to be a walk off.
- 36:26I think that was their game. I mean, the gift, the only run
- 36:31the Phillies got was a gift. I think that was with two outs
- 36:34too, wasn't it? One or two outs?
- 36:39Yeah, I think no, I think you're right.
- 36:42I think it was 2 outs, yeah. I don't know the the take away I
- 36:49had from that game and game four honestly, was that Kimbrel in
- 36:55the postseason is not like we have to figure out and quick a
- 37:03different leverage point for him to come into the game.
- 37:07Because it's not, it's not working and it's not like this.
- 37:12This shouldn't come as a surprise.
- 37:14Like he has a history of this. We've seen this before and I
- 37:23don't know if it just means going to out, excuse me, going
- 37:28to Alvarado when you would typically go to Kimbrel, then
- 37:33that opens up, it's like, OK, well then who goes And when
- 37:35Alvarado was supposed to go in, I don't know, but camera's got
- 37:41to figure it out, dude. Like it's it's a heart attack
- 37:43every time he comes out to pitch.
- 37:45Yeah, four. I think I saw 4IN runs in the
- 37:49last inning total that he's thrown.
- 37:56Yeah, yeah, he gave up three in game four.
- 37:59Yeah 'cause he gave up the the game time Homer to Alec Thomas,
- 38:06which talk about coming unglued. Dude that.
- 38:08Pace me up, the fact that I'm in the pool too, in the pool.
- 38:12Dude, dude, it's exciting. I got You want to talk about
- 38:20getting gassed up? When I saw them rock, when I saw
- 38:23them walk out in the black unis, I was like, oh, OK, we're tying
- 38:28this baby up. We are tying this series up.
- 38:32And sure enough, they did. How about that?
- 38:35Insane. Series of plays that happened.
- 38:41Ball up the line at third. Boom.
- 38:43Throws it home. Was it who what?
- 38:46No. It was the other way around.
- 38:47It was it was it was AD backs on defense.
- 38:51Ball up the line at 3rd, throws it home, gets bobbled.
- 38:55Another run comes around and scores.
- 38:57Gabby Moreno. Then like turns and hoses.
- 38:59Boom at that second. Just a just a Oh yeah, the two
- 39:05run, the two run ground out to to third, yeah.
- 39:09Wild. What a wild series of events
- 39:13there. But yeah, Alex.
- 39:16Alex Thomas, Man, that was pinch hit, right?
- 39:24Did I see? Biggest moment in his career,
- 39:27for sure. Like the new number one moment
- 39:31in his career. That's gotta be.
- 39:35I wouldn't have slept that night.
- 39:37I wouldn't have slept last night at all.
- 39:42I gotta, I gotta confirm. I think that was.
- 39:45I think that was a pinch hit. Pinch hit.
- 39:49AB. Yeah, Huge moment, dude.
- 39:53And have you noticed that him and Corbin Carroll have like
- 39:59similar approaches at the plate? Super similar.
- 40:05He wouldn't have running the ball down in the outfield.
- 40:07I'm like, right? Speaking of running long lost.
- 40:12Brothers, can I can I give some love to the base cams?
- 40:19Because I don't know if you saw it, but there was the was it
- 40:22game? It may have been game.
- 40:25Three. Was that game three where you
- 40:31saw Alec Thomas rounding third on just a dead Sprint home?
- 40:37Did you see that? I don't think so.
- 40:39Was flying, flying. It was like the now I'm talking
- 40:45about like the camera in the base.
- 40:47Oh no, I didn't see that. Insane dude.
- 40:51If you if you need some perspective on how on how fast
- 40:54that that kid is, my goodness, yeah, couple.
- 40:59Yeah, just some. That was a pin shit for nice.
- 41:02Yeah, I want to give some love to P Fat, for sure.
- 41:08Yes, dude. Like, talk about showing up and
- 41:13like, really letting everybody know how to pronounce it because
- 41:18it's fought and being like, I'm here, I'm the guy.
- 41:24Five and two thirds 9 K's didn't like how he got pulled to be
- 41:29honest with you, but my man diced, diced, had crazy good
- 41:36tempo on the mound. Just was in really good rhythm.
- 41:40Like that. Was fun to watch.
- 41:44Yeah, and not only did they pull him.
- 41:47Well again not not take anything away from the FOT conversation
- 41:52guy dice but you mentioned getting pulled they pulled him
- 41:57for that the the Salfronk guy or Salt I I don't know he is not
- 42:04had a great couple of games he is he's walked he walked two he
- 42:09had he he threw 1/3 of an inning walked two when when he came in
- 42:14for for P FOT and then. Last night came in and walked
- 42:21three through 1/3 of an inning. And you can tell the
- 42:26inexperiences there, because if you were watching his body
- 42:29length, which was all over the place, I'm like, dude, if you're
- 42:32trying to win this game right now, you're going to have to set
- 42:34that aside and like go pout about it in the tunnel.
- 42:37Because I didn't like the didn't like the pull at all.
- 42:42I don't like that guy either. And then my other name I'm going
- 42:46to give love for I I I have to be in the majority of baseball
- 42:53fans that really didn't fully understand the Dalton Var show
- 42:58trade. There was a lot of hype around
- 43:01that name and when they traded him, I was like, I don't
- 43:05understand. Gabrielle Moreno is real, real,
- 43:15and I mean like has probably established himself as a top
- 43:19five catcher in baseball. Wow.
- 43:23Yeah. I'm When you're throwing
- 43:28freaking 100 mile an hour bowling balls underneath his
- 43:31hands from Jose Alvarado and he's pulling that pitch and
- 43:35going to left center gap, that is insane.
- 43:45That dude is real, real. So I got to give mad respect to
- 43:52him and he needs to be a household name when it comes to
- 43:56catchers. This dude is going to be very
- 43:59good. He's only going to get better.
- 44:04Like the Diamondbacks have them at gym.
- 44:11Unless they turn around and ship him out, too, they better not.
- 44:14I don't think they're doing anything, man.
- 44:16I was trying to tell some, like, people in the office yesterday
- 44:18that aren't really like baseball fans, just, you know, they're
- 44:21excited about the Diamondbacks. They don't really know.
- 44:24And they're like, is this real? And I'm like, oh, yeah, this
- 44:27team's real. They're going to add.
- 44:28They're going to get better. But this team is real.
- 44:31They're going to be back. This wasn't that fluky Giants
- 44:35thing we saw. This is a Diamondbacks team
- 44:38that's young, They're put together, they're playing good
- 44:41ball. They needed some additions.
- 44:43No matter how this season goes, no matter how the rest of this
- 44:46series and and World Series go, they got to add.
- 44:50But they're going to be going to be here for real.
- 44:58The Phillies need to start hitting, man.
- 44:59They need to start swinging it. I'm going to put up five in Game
- 45:054. I'm not two of those on some
- 45:08goofy play. Yeah, I need, I need barrels.
- 45:14I need them to, I need them to show up.
- 45:17I need some barrels. So that's that's as dope as it's
- 45:25been here and Chase. It's it's not as much for me as
- 45:31them needing to hit is them. Needing to capitalize on these
- 45:36leverage situations when they're on the other side of the ball
- 45:39because you can't just bank on this offense.
- 45:43Putting up 10 every night because they're not going to.
- 45:46So you're gonna need. To me it comes down to a guy
- 45:49like Kimbrel. Like, going back to what I was
- 45:50saying, if if this is gonna be one of your two, three arms,
- 45:57which it has been for a while now, you need to have and and
- 46:03I'm not. This isn't ground breaking
- 46:05obviously, but like if you're going to insert him into the
- 46:09game, it has to be in a situation to where it's not
- 46:12going to cost you. Potentially this at this point,
- 46:15potentially the series now because we're now we're up, now
- 46:19we're tied up to two. If you If he comes in in game
- 46:23five in any capacity and blows it, that very well could be the
- 46:28series for the Phillies. It's true, It's very true.
- 46:35But I mean, this was on a bullpen day, so I think the only
- 46:40guy left in the pen at that moment was Lorenzen after
- 46:46Alvarado came in, right? I think Lorenzen was the only
- 46:49one left. So it's just one of those days,
- 46:52man. We're like that.
- 46:54That's where you need offensive stuff.
- 46:57I'm not letting Kimbrough off the hook, but.
- 47:00Lorenzen say that again. I think he was the only one
- 47:03left, wasn't he? Oh, to not come in Game 4, yeah.
- 47:07Yeah, they went through, I mean, Sanchez started.
- 47:11You got Hoffman, Strom, Dominguez, Soto, Kirk Green,
- 47:15Kimbrel and Alvarado, Yeah. So, yeah, yeah, it's it's tough.
- 47:22But I mean, the Phillies are the Phillies.
- 47:27They they I've. I've don't think I've ever seen
- 47:30a team be able to snatch momentum back as quick.
- 47:39Phillies are capable of that. For their sake, though, I'm just
- 47:42not thrilled about the fact that they still have one left to go
- 47:46tonight in Chase. Because that's a Who's the
- 47:50starters tonight? That's a pivotal game.
- 47:59Who do we got? Oh, Wheeler.
- 48:02Gallon. Oh, my damn.
- 48:05I wish I should have gone. I should have gone for sure.
- 48:08You. Can still go, dude.
- 48:09Just just leave work. Just bail on work.
- 48:13I'd love to, man. Yeah.
- 48:19Like I said I'm not I'm not thrilled that they still have
- 48:21one to go in an environment that seemingly has has picked up
- 48:25steam just in 48 hours. Like I I'm I'm thinking that now
- 48:30that they've knotted the series up at 2:00.
- 48:34I think Chase, you're going to, you're going to see, especially
- 48:37given that it's not coming back here like this is it for.
- 48:42Chase for this series. So they are going to, those are
- 48:44going to show. They are going to be letting
- 48:46them have it. Did you see the?
- 48:48The guy signed the Snakes Alive sign that they reproduce for all
- 48:52the fans last night. That was what's I I picked that
- 48:55out live. I remember I was like, really,
- 48:57dude, like, you just went to a word doc and then it went viral.
- 49:02It's like, oh, I love it. I don't know what it is about
- 49:06that ballpark and having just like Microsoft Word design works
- 49:12done because that was where the Great Britain jersey made its
- 49:15debut back in March. And you got this.
- 49:18I don't know. Maybe that's maybe that's the
- 49:20move. I wonder what's the It's
- 49:23starting to cool down here. Like next week.
- 49:29Next week's All 80s now. I'll still be 100 today.
- 49:33So I was gonna say if the roof is open tonight, I'd be sick,
- 49:36but probably better if it's closed.
- 49:38More noise. Yeah, that's.
- 49:42That's something that I have not understood.
- 49:44I don't care like how nice it is outside if it's the postseason.
- 49:47Shouldn't all of these parks that have roofs, shouldn't they
- 49:53just be closed all the time, which I guess is three of the
- 49:57four parks that we're dealing with here.
- 49:59Like, shouldn't they just be closed every night?
- 50:02Why? Why would you take away that
- 50:05element of of home field advantage?
- 50:07I don't know no say. Doesn't make any sense, right?
- 50:15Like it. What do you got tonight though?
- 50:17How you going? I hate to say it, I think the D
- 50:26backs get it done. I still have Philly taking this
- 50:30series because that of all the hills that I'm going to die on
- 50:34with this series, it's that the, the, the one that I will die on
- 50:39the most would be. Philly winning at home, that's
- 50:44just a given. Yeah.
- 50:46So I say I say Arizona goes up 3, two, but I say Philly takes
- 50:51it in seven. I go the opposite.
- 50:54I in Zack Wheeler, I believe Gallon.
- 51:00See, I think Philly's hitters kind of smell a little blood in
- 51:03the water with Gallon. Last time out wasn't great.
- 51:08I think Wheeler is going to step up and be like, All right,
- 51:11Bullpen is taxed. I'm giving you.
- 51:13I'm giving you A7 strong. Give me 7 strong tonight from
- 51:17Wheeler. Phillies take it.
- 51:20And then they win the first one back home.
- 51:23Phillies in six. I don't know, dude.
- 51:31I feel like I I hate I I really don't want to admit it, but I
- 51:35feel like if we're being honest. That's an offense that can just
- 51:39immediately take the vibes out of the crowd.
- 51:41That's true. But like you have to you have to
- 51:44think that there is a little, there's a little bit of shell
- 51:49shock going on right now. I don't think after going up two
- 51:52O the wave in the in the fashion that they did.
- 51:55I don't think they saw this series going 22 through 4:00.
- 52:01I really don't, dude. I think that there's a lot of
- 52:03dudes in there with a very low heartbeat.
- 52:05That's just low, low heart rate. That's just very chill, very
- 52:09calm, cool, collected. I want to believe you.
- 52:12I I want to be on that page, but I Philly's come out with a big
- 52:16old right in the first couple innings and takes the crowd out
- 52:21of it. Who?
- 52:26Who do you see being The X Factor in Game 5 for Philly's D
- 52:30backs? Who do you see being the MVP of
- 52:36this game? Well, based on what you said, it
- 52:40sounds like it'll be Wheeler. If you see Wheeler just taking
- 52:42the ball, it probably is, yeah, probably is Wheeler.
- 52:45I I don't think the offense is going to do a ton of damage
- 52:49against Gallon. It's not what I'm saying.
- 52:50It's probably going to be like a couple home runs or a home run
- 52:54with a dude or two on, and then that's kind of like the offense
- 52:59for the night. But I mean, line up wise, like,
- 53:05pick whoever you want. You know, someone's going to get
- 53:08them. But yeah, I think Wheeler is
- 53:10like, you're going to see an ace tonight, dude.
- 53:12You're going to see an ace. That's like, my bullpen needs
- 53:15this. I'm.
- 53:19I'm going minimum, 7 minimum. OK All right.
- 53:23Give me ACG. How sick would that be?
- 53:26OK. Yeah.
- 53:28I mean, if there's guys going to do it for like it'd be Wheeler.
- 53:33All right. So you see it going six.
- 53:35What about the other series? Because the last, the next time
- 53:37that you guys hear from us, the series will be over.
- 53:39So what do you got the the other series going?
- 53:45You think Houston's just going to do it right away?
- 53:47Right. Right away.
- 53:48Yeah, right away. Yeah, right away.
- 53:52Game 6 First team in history. Fall Down O2 at home.
- 53:59What did we say last episode? Oh, and 21.
- 54:01Oh, and 21. So it'll be one and 21, and you
- 54:05talk about the the group of guys who've been covering this game,
- 54:10they've been mentioning it over and over again, reminding every
- 54:13Yankee fan history, Jeter and Poppy on the coverage, some
- 54:20other guy that still manages to get a spray tan.
- 54:25What's that about? Why is a rod getting spray?
- 54:28Tans, fellas, they're already dark.
- 54:30Fellas, they're already dark. Stop.
- 54:33Enough. Enough.
- 54:35That's my favorite when he whenever he wants to make a
- 54:37point. Anytime he wants to make a
- 54:39point. Fellas, fellas.
- 54:41Pure fellas. Yeah.
- 54:44Yeah, Houston does it right away.
- 54:46Right away. The This is a choke job.
- 54:50This is an absolute choke job from the Rangers.
- 54:55Choke job. I agree with you right away.
- 54:58Game six. So I got Philly Z backs 17.
- 55:02I got Houston cleaning things up right away in game six.
- 55:07Like I said, next time you hear from us, this series will be
- 55:09over. We'll be previewing the World
- 55:11Series very well. Sounds like both of us have
- 55:18Philly, Philly and Houston. Let's run it back, 2022.
- 55:22Run it back. Love you guys.
- 55:25Have a good weekend. Enjoy baseball.
- 55:27Don't go chasing curveballs. Love.
