- 2:07All right, so I'm going to go ahead and preface this by saying
- 2:10I live in Florida. It is currently summer in
- 2:13Florida and there is a summer storm happening outside.
- 2:16It's a thunderstorm. So if you hear some noise in the
- 2:19background I'm sorry. So that's just Florida.
- 2:23I can't change the weather right back.
- 2:26So for Full House my gosh, It changed the weather.
- 2:31No, I can not currently no funny enough.
- 2:36I just watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs the other
- 2:40day for the first time ever that animated movie and I was like,
- 2:44wow. So anyway talking about changing
- 2:46the weather. So my drama listen Ops is for
- 2:50Full House hunting in an aspiring script.
- 2:53Script writer lives in a house called Full House built by her
- 2:56late father. One day her two best friends
- 2:59trick her into Believing. She has won a free vacation and
- 3:02sell her house. While she's away on the plane,
- 3:05she meets famous actor. EV en J through comedic events,
- 3:09they get acquainted during her vacation.
- 3:11And when she returns, she discovers that her house was has
- 3:14been sold to him though. They don't get along with each
- 3:18other because of her messy Tendencies, and his bad temper
- 3:21and zealous cleanliness. They agree to live with each
- 3:24other. In the beginning, Gian works as
- 3:26his made, in order to buy her house back, they alter their
- 3:29Moment when youngjae decides to win back the love of his life.
- 3:33Kang hee won in a bid to make her one.
- 3:35Jealous. The two protagonists enter into
- 3:37a contract marriage with a six-month term complications
- 3:42arise when the couple starts to fall for each other.
- 3:46Yes. Oh we're gonna get into it.
- 3:50This aired originally from July to September 2004, it is a
- 3:54summer show and good for us. I have like 90-something degree
- 3:59weather happening. Outside.
- 4:00So we're in the peak of Summer. Y'all in Florida 2004.
- 4:07I don't know if you if you care to say what you were doing in
- 4:102004, but I'll just go ahead and set the scene and I'll out
- 4:13myself. I was 12 years old in 2004 and
- 4:20your babysitter we'll put it out, okay.
- 4:22Yeah. And to put it in perspective,
- 4:25Brad Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston at the time.
- 4:29This was the year that he met Angelina Jolie on the set of mr.
- 4:33And mrs. Smith, but they were still, he
- 4:35was still married to Jen. Mark Zuckerberg launched
- 4:39Facebook in 2004 from his Harvard dorm.
- 4:44It was not be Facebook. Metaverse that we have today.
- 4:48It was the Facebook. It was called the Facebook.
- 4:50Yes. Yes.
- 4:53Watch The Social Network. If you haven't already,
- 4:54excellent film the TV sitcom Friends, aired its season.
- 4:59In Finale this year. I'm I'm pretty shocked that that
- 5:05one. As a matter of fact, and here
- 5:06are some movies that came out in 2004, Kill Bill, Vol 2, Howl's
- 5:11Moving Castle. The Notebook, The Incredibles
- 5:16Mean Girls Spider-Man, 2, Shrek 2 50, First Dates and the third
- 5:23Harry Potter movie Prisoner of Azkaban.
- 5:27What was on the radio? Well I'll let you know.
- 5:30Mina, we have Yeah, the single by Usher featuring Lil Jon and
- 5:36Ludacris it won a bunch of Grammys and a billboard song of
- 5:41the year. Stop it.
- 5:43Stop it Mina. It's more like, oh okay, I
- 5:51didn't want to do. I didn't want to do that but I
- 5:53went ahead and just did it, I got it out of the way.
- 5:57Also the song, If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys was released.
- 6:02This year and won some Grammys, Coldplay's Clocks.
- 6:07The song Clocks was winning Grammys, and so was the band
- 6:12Evanescence. So, I mean, this was a Zealand
- 6:16time for music talk about Golden Era.
- 6:20But honestly, this is the climate, this is the time.
- 6:26Only three years removed from 9/11, this is when Full House
- 6:31was Least nobody had an iPhone. Nobody knew what an iPhone was.
- 6:36Okay this is the flip phone ERA. This is LimeWire downloading
- 6:43music era, just like Blockbuster Video, the store and like movie
- 6:48rental places. Yes, yeah.
- 6:51Netflix did not exist. I mean the list goes on and on
- 6:56so I just want to set the scene here when we're going back to
- 6:590-4 like it's a serious thing. So the show Full House is only
- 7:0516 episodes long and the director is pure minsu.
- 7:09He's directed things like worlds within from 08 which also Stars
- 7:15so I'm like yo he directed heartstrings from 2011, which
- 7:19stars what's her name? Oh my God, we just had her In
- 7:24The Heirs, I forgot her name. I feel bad whatever.
- 7:29Susie no no heirs. And I feel terrible, but anyway
- 7:36it'll come to me later in the episode.
- 7:38So heartstrings Iris to the producers, the third charm,
- 7:42these are all his projects, it obviously was based on a web to
- 7:46on a cartoon. Once who Ian wrote the cartoon
- 7:49and Min Hyo, Jung wrote the screenplay mean he'll John
- 7:53really hasn't done. Done anything else besides Full
- 7:56House. The only two other writing
- 7:58credits to their name rules of love, from 2005 and Cat on the
- 8:02roof the year before Full House in 2003.
- 8:07So I'm just going to list off our two leads because Full House
- 8:11is led by song hye-kyo, she plays hon daeun, she was a grand
- 8:16total of 23 years old when she did Full House.
- 8:21And what do you think about song hye-kyo is?
- 8:24Like full house because we covered the glory.
- 8:28We've covered her in descendants of the sun, that's 2016 and 2020
- 8:323ish respectively and honestly, she's done a bunch of other
- 8:38stuff and I we've discussed her and other episodes but what, how
- 8:41are you feeling about? So I'm gonna kill in this show.
- 8:45I it reminded me a lot of like this era in kdramas where there
- 8:50was a lot of and that's a, they're still not, but female
- 8:52protagonist who are Annoyingly endearing, or at least, that's
- 8:56what they want you to think. I kept thinking of Boys Over
- 8:57Flowers and John Dee, the character, John Dean, how truly
- 9:00annoying? She was how much I actually
- 9:02fully hated her, um, but I thought song hit you up in her
- 9:06portrayal, actually managed as Jian to be endearing.
- 9:10That was my opinion, at least that she was cute and endearing.
- 9:13Except she's also like clumsy and like, you know, Annoying
- 9:16dirty, all those things I agree. Completely.
- 9:19So I feel like song hye-kyo has the reputation Being a serious
- 9:26actress. Like, all of her characters are
- 9:28very stoic. Beautiful, elegant.
- 9:33And not very loose or bubbly or endearing, like, she is here in
- 9:40this role. And this is sort of where I
- 9:43first saw, her was in this show called Full House and granted.
- 9:46I didn't watch and I was 12 years old, I watched it like,
- 9:502012 2013, it was one of the first Of years that I was
- 9:55watching kdramas, and I loved her in Full House.
- 9:58And this kind of informed, my opinion of her and her acting,
- 10:01is that she can kind of do it all.
- 10:05Rain or as I like to call him rain.
- 10:09So rain plays youngjae the Celeb in this show, he was only 22
- 10:17years old when he did the show he's gone on to do some other
- 10:22shows like a love to kill my lovely girl.
- 10:25Come back mr. Ghost doctor in 2022.
- 10:29He had a cameo and under the Queen's umbrella and I think
- 10:32he's got a Disney Plus show coming out.
- 10:34And next year, Wayne family Scandal is the name of it right
- 10:38now. What did you think of rain?
- 10:42It's a show. I mean, I think he was
- 10:45obviously, like, I don't know if the stunt casting is the word,
- 10:48but like, he's there to be kind of play rain, you know, because
- 10:51that was the peeker among the peak time of his popularity in
- 10:54Korea as an idol. So, he's playing, he's playing
- 10:57kind of the spoiled celebrity Idol guy who also acts and that
- 11:00kind of thing. So he was just playing trying to
- 11:02play himself. I don't think the acting was
- 11:04very great but you know, it was and he was so young so I don't.
- 11:10Know how much actor he done before that, but yeah, it was
- 11:13there. So he had played on her.
- 11:15He had been in only one other show before this song.
- 11:18Do, let's go to school from 2003.
- 11:21Where get this, he plays a gigolo who's a father of a
- 11:25seven-year-old, who's sick? And so, he's sort of living
- 11:29below the poverty line. Just so that he can pay the
- 11:31hospital bills for his seven-year-old.
- 11:33It's, I don't know. I don't know if anyone has seen
- 11:36the show, if you have seen range, you watch this?
- 11:38No, no. I've never seen this show, but
- 11:42if you have, please, please reach out and let me know your
- 11:45thoughts on it cuz I'm not. I'm really not about to fit in
- 11:49this 2003. Sang-doo.
- 11:50Let's go to school, show with rain and his very first acting
- 11:54cred, but it seems like a heavy-handed role to play.
- 11:58I'm curious how he was the dad of a seven-year-old at age like
- 12:0120. And well, he was plenty.
- 12:03I think the characters like 27 was supposed to be, 27 years
- 12:07old, so he had the kid when He was about 20.
- 12:12I anyway, that's like a totally different shows, but, you know,
- 12:15tangent, but rain as youngjae, I will say, I still love rain.
- 12:21I still love rain in this role. I still live Rana Z youngjae.
- 12:25There's something really boyish about his character and about
- 12:29his portrayal that really appeals.
- 12:31Even after 20 years like this show is about 19, 20 years old.
- 12:38And even no, it's not. Not the best acting whatsoever.
- 12:42I do feel like there's a vulnerability to the character
- 12:45that he brings out in certain parts and that was almost
- 12:49mesmerizing to see those parts where he's lets down his guard
- 12:52and be is is a little more vulnerable and open.
- 12:59They're yelling basically the whole show, both of them, but I
- 13:02thought for him to like, similar to Hung, oh gosh.
- 13:06Thank you, seonguk. I was like, what's her name?
- 13:09Yes. Like he portrayed a little bit
- 13:11of, like something that seemed more endearing as well.
- 13:13Surprisingly like it would kind of catch me off guard because
- 13:16I'm just as like this character so annoying.
- 13:18But then, when the script was trying to make it seem like he
- 13:20had these like you said vulnerabilities and was some
- 13:23kind of endearing like what? Because sometimes like, why does
- 13:25she like him or why did she ever you know?
- 13:28One interact with him. It sometimes it made sense.
- 13:30So, he definitely had moments. Hmm.
- 13:33What are your thoughts in? General, on the show?
- 13:37Did you like it? Did you hate it?
- 13:39Was it watchable after 20 years? Let me know.
- 13:44It's definitely dated. I think in that you're never
- 13:47like, oh, this is happening right now in real in
- 13:50present-day. Yeah, it's definitely.
- 13:53It's watchable and I love rain just separately.
- 13:56So I really liked, you know, Him and song, hye-kyo.
- 14:00So, like you said, a stoic actress, just like classic
- 14:04Beauty, and they made her really kind of goofy and cute.
- 14:06So, I think is really fun to watch.
- 14:08Now, did you have any trouble getting through the episodes at
- 14:13all? Yeah, it's he said only,
- 14:16however, many episodes was like, that's too many Chinese episode
- 14:2116 episodes is too many. Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 14:25Personally, I think if this show was made today It would be 12
- 14:28episodes 8 episodes Max. I don't think that it's It needs
- 14:36to be sorry, I don't know why that really got me that made me
- 14:41laugh. Okay, no, I think that it's not
- 14:46warranted. The 16 episode count, what I
- 14:49mean by it's only 16 episodes is that for me?
- 14:51I blasted through these episodes.
- 14:54It was very easy for me to re-watch the show and it felt
- 14:59like it was giving me the same high as I did.
- 15:02When I first watched it, the excitement that I felt Watching
- 15:05this show was really all-time high something that is very
- 15:10different from my experience, watching some of these other
- 15:13kdramas that I've returned to and watch for the podcast where
- 15:17it was really tough to get through airs.
- 15:19It was really tough to get through your beautiful, but for
- 15:21this one Easy Money, easy. Yeah.
- 15:25This one, I think held up better than those then I hers and I,
- 15:28yeah, I think it does hold up a little better than airs or even
- 15:32your beautiful. There's some Urkel quality about
- 15:36Full House and the tropes that employees, like the cohabitation
- 15:39Trope, and The Contract Marriage Trope.
- 15:42Are you kidding? Of course, these are still
- 15:44around. They're still, you know, people
- 15:47still love these tropes, so I don't feel like, if you come
- 15:51into this thinking, this is going to be wildly different.
- 15:53No, in fact, this is kind of where those Trends started,
- 15:57right was Full House. And this, cohabitation this
- 16:00couple, this contract marriage was like the blueprint for other
- 16:04kdramas to Hello. So I really think that it's
- 16:08foundational. It's important.
- 16:09It did extremely well in, in ratings.
- 16:14And in popularity, it was a huge export.
- 16:16People love this show. And I felt that even when I was
- 16:21first watching, it was like, this looks even though it's
- 16:24freaking dated, everybody looks really mid-2000s and of death in
- 16:30a shocking way in a shocking way.
- 16:32You're like, oh my God, the Fashion everything that the
- 16:36second female lead is wearing is some level of atrocious.
- 16:41I'm telling you, it is painfully 2004, but at the same time I
- 16:46feel like it's timeless. I will say, I cover the show a
- 16:52little bit winter Sonata and one of my podcast episodes which was
- 16:55considered the first drama to really start Hall you.
- 16:58And this one too is one of them, but that one was the plot was
- 17:03absurd, like absolutely absurd because he employed all these
- 17:05tropes of like Amnesia. And yeah, that and and I like it
- 17:09because, you know, course cohabitation.
- 17:11And it was kind of insufferable to watch for me now in present
- 17:14day, but Full House using those tropes and I was getting a
- 17:16little nervous. Actually, it was like, oh gosh,
- 17:18yeah. Barrage and living together, but
- 17:20it actually worked. It just worked.
- 17:22I think a much better. Yeah.
- 17:24Whether it's because it had some good source material with the
- 17:27cartoon. A lot of people have said that
- 17:30the show is better than the cartoon.
- 17:33I don't know how true that is, because I've never gotten my
- 17:35hands on the Full House cartoon, but I kind of feel like there's
- 17:40something to that statement because it is really watchable
- 17:45it is this couple is really fun. Yeah, you know, they're annoying
- 17:51to each other they're annoying sometimes to even watch but
- 17:55there's some magic. I don't know what they were
- 17:59eating on the site like I don't know what it is.
- 18:02You're rooting for them to your. Yeah it worked out.
- 18:05Yeah you hope it works out. You hope they make it, you hope
- 18:08they get over themselves, you hope that they forget the love
- 18:12of God communicate. So this is not rains first role
- 18:19and this is not something that kills for a stroll but it just
- 18:22did a lot for the tropes. It did a lot for both of them
- 18:25career-wise because it was so popular.
- 18:28What are some things that sort of made you think?
- 18:31Oh my God, this is 2004 because I don't yeah.
- 18:36Everything know the clothes the clothes and the hair, the side
- 18:40ponies, a little Brave. How dare you her like no I'm not
- 18:44saying it's a bad thing and The actually worked in retail during
- 18:48this time and one of my I'm really not fashionable at all.
- 18:52So I could relate to the character but my friend who is
- 18:55way more fashionable was like, You Gotta Wear Kelly Green, that
- 18:58is the color and I was like, what the hell is Kelly Green?
- 19:00I don't even know what it was and she's like, no, that's the
- 19:02popular color. And I had all this, like,
- 19:04American Apparel, kelly, green stuff and I watching this I was
- 19:08like in shock because she wears Kelly Green, like every other
- 19:11scene like she wears so much, Kelly Green does and also those
- 19:14weird little ruffle kind Dove ruffle skirt.
- 19:16Yes, Hank tops. The multi-layer tank top under
- 19:20the, I like everything was like really killing me.
- 19:22The like, Hangul kind of hats like newsies hat.
- 19:25Oh my God, the kitten heels, the kitten heels.
- 19:28Yes, she was rocking every look, that was in.
- 19:31So, yeah, is definitely the clothes.
- 19:34I was surprised at the outfits that they put on the second.
- 19:37Female lead had won her character because they were
- 19:41pretty risqué to me. Did you feel the same way?
- 19:46Yeah a lot of Skin showing I was kind of surprising like push-up
- 19:49bra to. Yeah like thing and I was like
- 19:51is this Allah same thing? I was like why do I feel like
- 19:59kdramas now and even in the last 10 years or so are extremely
- 20:04conservative when it comes to dressing their leads right?
- 20:08Right. Because this same thought right?
- 20:11Because she's out here with like exposed bra straps and like
- 20:15freely. The bra straps, but just out and
- 20:19showing her arms. I was, I saw cleavage and I was
- 20:21like, there is a lot I'm seeing, like, her the side of her
- 20:25stomach and stuff. I feel like I saw side boob, I
- 20:28was like, she's not dressing like terribly.
- 20:30It's just very Runway Fashion from 2004, and for some reason
- 20:38they don't afford that sort of risky look too.
- 20:45Yeah, leads nowadays or even second leads.
- 20:48Now, it has exact same observation and I don't know why
- 20:51that is either. Okay, just thing to think about.
- 20:53Yeah, super interesting to see that on screen, I think what
- 20:58makes it really shook me was the cinematography because there was
- 21:03no cinematography, everything was washed out hat that they
- 21:08never heard of white balance. It was just over exposed.
- 21:13Like literally all I can think of is Is just the color white
- 21:16when I think of Full House. And the way that it was shot,
- 21:22the landline that was in the house.
- 21:25That was sort of integral to the story.
- 21:28So many times was like, they're waiting for calls.
- 21:31They're waiting to, you know, out.
- 21:34I was like, oh, that was back. Then you're just sat around and
- 21:37waited for people, or you, sat in a restaurant, waited for
- 21:39someone to show up. Honestly hanok, you just sit
- 21:42there for hours, you were just deal with it.
- 21:45And they would Answer the phone and not know who was on the on
- 21:48the line, like, they were just like, hello as if they had no
- 21:52clue. Who was the cop?
- 21:53Caller ID wasn't a thing in 2004.
- 21:56It was but Iran had it. Exactly.
- 21:59That's what, that's what I mean is that they, the phone that
- 22:03they had, in the show, didn't have caller ID?
- 22:05No, so they were just like hello: no clues on the other
- 22:11line, the anyone, it could be anybody the Again, with the
- 22:16front door. Now, we have front door cameras.
- 22:18We don't just pop over to people's houses.
- 22:22No, I was appalled, it was appalling.
- 22:25It was rampant rampant in this show.
- 22:27They just egregious. They would anybody would just
- 22:31come over and they would open the door.
- 22:33Like hella get like they have no idea who's at the door.
- 22:38That was really throwing me this time to be alive and then I
- 22:45Confused also by a cut like blunders production blenders
- 22:50that were just kept in. Like what?
- 22:53Like, there's that one point. You see a light?
- 22:56Like a production light in a nighttime shot and I was like,
- 23:01yeah, is that the light that's lighting the scene?
- 23:04And then there was a shadow of the of the camera passing over.
- 23:09Like, I guess lighting, but stuff like that.
- 23:12The little icon or something. This is like a Wednesday
- 23:15Thursday. A drama or Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 23:16drama or whatever, except, like popping up.
- 23:18So it's like where they just like, on a time crunch because I
- 23:22mean, they just like, we don't time, I don't know that there
- 23:25was even a shot where you saw a production person in the
- 23:28background and I was like, you could tell was an error because
- 23:33it's a like mid shot of rain from like the chest up.
- 23:36And you can see the background there at the Full House and it's
- 23:40just wooded and they're supposed to be of it supposed to be a
- 23:43very secluded area. Eight no other houses around but
- 23:48there's this random dude in the background and then he like
- 23:50ducks out and I was like this is a mess in the best way possible.
- 23:57Because it's, it took, it takes nothing away from exactly.
- 24:05Also, why were there so many bugs in the frame?
- 24:08So many bugs. Why aren't we mentioned the
- 24:11words? I am really was like, oh, the
- 24:12bugs the bostic's? Yeah, I was so.
- 24:15Confused. Why there were so many bugs and
- 24:17like, not little bugs. I'm talking like a giant fly,
- 24:21moths that you see come up to the window and stuff because
- 24:26they're in a very secluded area that was.
- 24:30I was like I don't think I've ever seen a bug in a recent
- 24:33kdrama. I don't ya I don't know what.
- 24:38Yeah climate change who knows? It was it was a lot though.
- 24:40There's a lot. So, I know.
- 24:45So, the location of the House, the full house is a house built
- 24:50specially for the series. I want to pause for a second,
- 24:53and just mention that because I don't know if anyone hasn't seen
- 24:55this, but full has the name of the house.
- 24:57She lives in. Yes.
- 24:59Okay. It's like then it's just name of
- 25:00the house. We're not just weirdly.
- 25:02Calling it The Full House. No, no.
- 25:05I think I said in the my job the my drum.
- 25:07Listen Officer says it hon. Do you and inspires fear a
- 25:09script, writer lives in a house called Full House but built by
- 25:12her late father. So, when we say Full House, it
- 25:15could just use context clues, it's either the name of the show
- 25:19or were talking about the actual house.
- 25:21Okay? So full house is a house built
- 25:25specially for the series and it's located in Quang, Tri Area
- 25:29of Incheon near the airport and it's only a 10-minute boat ride
- 25:34from some Oak Harbor. I don't know if it's actually
- 25:36still there. I don't think it would be.
- 25:39I doubt it. It's been 20 years.
- 25:41I don't think this house that was Pacific Lee built for the
- 25:44production is still there. I would be really surprised if
- 25:46it was the house was made mostly of wood and cost about a hundred
- 25:50about a million dollars, u.s. dollars to build.
- 25:55So, glad you mentioned this because I was wondering, like,
- 25:57why are they on the beach and like, what body of water and as
- 25:59I had to get to Seoul so fast all the time, like they're going
- 26:01from there to like like Guam moon in like five seconds like
- 26:05all the time. And I'm like, how is this
- 26:06happening? And then he gives her a bike and
- 26:07I'm like okay man get ahead of myself but no, but there's this
- 26:10house. I agree with you because there
- 26:13Some, there's I think we're trained once we watch kdramas
- 26:18that waterways are far from the city except for the Han River.
- 26:22Yes, except for the hundred, you're right except for the Han
- 26:25River. Every other body of water is far
- 26:28away and this was by the end of the show, I was like, this is
- 26:31not the ocean. This can't be the ocean.
- 26:34This is a lake or something, but it has like, it kind of had a
- 26:38wave like a current, right? I was very confused.
- 26:41I was like, where are they? But The harbor so now I'm like
- 26:44okay it's something. Yeah.
- 26:46Yeah. So it's not it still seemed
- 26:48far-fetched for them to run back and forth between like downtown
- 26:51Seoul and Incheon so fast. Yes, I agree with you
- 26:54completely. What would you say?
- 26:59Your thoughts were on the OST? I liked it, I liked it that I've
- 27:09no complaints. I like the OST even to this day.
- 27:12I really love this the main song that ends every episode.
- 27:16I said, I just start clapping, like, I don't know, I get really
- 27:19excited. It was this show and something
- 27:22in the rain where I'm like, why are they why is like an English
- 27:24song playing so much? It was like, that's only thing
- 27:26that Drew me about it. There's language, I know there
- 27:30is something really strange and not the main OST, like there's
- 27:33like two main OST song. That they use throughout the
- 27:36show that are not in English, but there's other OST songs and
- 27:40just needle drops that. I don't know why they're in
- 27:45English and their bad covers of different.
- 27:48Yes. Like bad covers and honestly, it
- 27:52just enhanced experience to listen to some of these.
- 27:55Like there was a Dean Martin song or something, the girls
- 27:59kept playing 60s like the turtles.
- 28:02Like It's very, it makes you whirl around and just think what
- 28:14is going on, but it doesn't matter.
- 28:16It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
- 28:19This is not OST songs are good, like you said, yes.
- 28:23Yeah, yeah. The main OST songs are good and
- 28:26this is not a serious show. Like, let me get this out of the
- 28:29way. Like, this is not a serious
- 28:32show. This is criminally unserious,
- 28:34okay? Like This is the reasons why
- 28:37they get together are really bogus.
- 28:40Even I I never get to it but like her best friend selling her
- 28:44house bro. An idol.
- 28:45Yes it will. Okay, so this is part of the
- 28:50synopsis. I don't think this is
- 28:51necessarily a spoiler because it's just episode 1 basically.
- 28:56But if how do I put this if I don't I don't think I would be
- 29:02this gullible. But if my friends, my best
- 29:05friends since childhood, send me off to Shanghai and said, you
- 29:12have a free trip enjoy. You're going to have so much
- 29:15fun. We'll see you when you get back
- 29:16and when I I get stranded in Shanghai have to borrow money
- 29:22from some a-lister that I met in first class and pestered and
- 29:27lied to, to get out of Shanghai, back to Korea and I get back my
- 29:32house, that my father, Built deceased.
- 29:37Father, late father, right? Late father built.
- 29:40They sold it behind my back. I think there would be this
- 29:45would be a crime drama. Yeah.
- 29:47For this would not be a romance drama.
- 29:49That should be a great joke, comedic drama.
- 29:51I'd be like no. So those two friends would not
- 29:59be my friends anymore to say the least.
- 30:01I ringing my doorbell like, breaking into my house and all
- 30:04this other stuff. So I I'm, I don't want my blood
- 30:07pressure to go up and I because honestly, I don't know how she
- 30:13stayed for. Friends with them throughout the
- 30:14duration of the show. Yes, she kind of was, didn't put
- 30:18up with her bullshit for a few different scenarios that happen.
- 30:22But for the most part, she was on relatively good terms with
- 30:26them and they swindled her out of her house.
- 30:31That was her only think that she said this was the only thing I
- 30:33had. Yep, the whole that whole thing
- 30:37was your because it's like you've won a contest.
- 30:38What contest? I, yeah.
- 30:40That's you know, and she's like, okay, and she's like your shirts
- 30:43first. You're sure someone's gonna meet
- 30:44me there Port. They're like, yeah, it's fine.
- 30:46It's fine. Just go on ahead and like they
- 30:48totally played her and then she like was pissed at them but yet
- 30:52still was like in they were stealing each other's lives, and
- 30:55I just really couldn't wrap my head around that.
- 30:57I like there's, there's no way. You guys are installing
- 31:00identities and move because I would be after you, I would, you
- 31:04don't want to know what I would do to those two friends and
- 31:08what's sad is that like she basically had nobody else and I
- 31:11guess that's what this show is. Also trying to say is That she
- 31:14had no other family, no other friends, just those two friends,
- 31:17and then they screwed her over and ironic name full house
- 31:21because it was an empty house. Oh my God.
- 31:24You're right. That's a great point.
- 31:26Is that the house is called Full House that house had two people
- 31:29in it at Max Maxie. I'm Max staying in it.
- 31:35So like we said before Full House considered a pioneer of
- 31:38the rom-com genre for kdrama and the drama was a huge success and
- 31:42helped Propel the K-Wave. Korean wave, and it spawned a
- 31:46spin-off. See our season, to however, you
- 31:49want to look at it Full House, Take 2, which aired in 2012
- 31:53with. I can't remember.
- 31:55It's another set of like K drug, not kdrama K-Pop Stars.
- 32:04Okay, I can look it up really fast but then also Full House
- 32:08spawned a musical. Oh my God.
- 32:11Yeah so it's Stars, no min-woo Oh, I know this guy.
- 32:22I've seen this guy. Oh my God.
- 32:24He is in the Forbidden, marriage.
- 32:26That's the most recent thing. He's been in in a bunch of all
- 32:30their stuff. My girlfriend is a Gumiho pasta.
- 32:33Okay. Okay.
- 32:34If you look at a movie like, oh, I know him he apparently was a
- 32:37drummer for Rock Band. T-Rex tracks.
- 32:39I don't know, track probably tracks.
- 32:41Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:43He's got a pretty face so that's Full House.
- 32:45Take to start a him and some other folks.
- 32:49So and then Hong Jong. I'm she was in, she was in, she
- 32:52was pretty yes, a with Park Soldier.
- 32:55Yes, I know. Yeah, so that she was the female
- 32:58lead. One thing that I liked was this
- 33:02quote from, so I'm going to kill where she said in an interview
- 33:06in my previous work, I've only played very innocent prude
- 33:09characters who are careful about their behavior and words.
- 33:12However, this time hon Jian is a completely different character.
- 33:15She is so bubbly and Lively that I could say, she is a bit
- 33:18bizarre and freaky, thanks to this role.
- 33:20I've noticed that my personality to has become more bright and
- 33:23Lively. That's cool.
- 33:25Which is a nice. I don't, I don't know, it's
- 33:27really nice quote and again just puts in perspective.
- 33:32How song hye-kyo was choosing her projects back in the day 20
- 33:35years ago? And it's kind of crazy to see
- 33:38how she's narrowed in and been sort of Typecast whether it's by
- 33:42her design or just us. Those are the scriptures she
- 33:45gets or what have you. I don't know what this is.
- 33:47Like double down on like serious.
- 33:49Yeah people. Yeah it's really Pleasant to
- 33:54see. ER in Full House, right?
- 33:56I agree. Like there's something so nice
- 33:58about seeing something, like you just sort of being a bully her
- 34:01like she's giggling, she's goofy, she's loud, she's messy,
- 34:09all these things. It's just makes her character.
- 34:11Really likable, really likeable? So what would you give the show
- 34:18out of five Soldier bottles? I think I've honestly it would
- 34:23kind of rated High, even though Not like it's not like
- 34:26Shakespeare but it is. I'm like for you to I think it's
- 34:31so lovely and really washable so much fun.
- 34:36I mean honestly a lot of fun even though the plot is super
- 34:40repetitive not much is happening in the grand scheme of things,
- 34:44this was I feel like this was a genuinely cheap show to produce
- 34:49because they're in one location, just the house basically, and a
- 34:53couple other places. It's literally just them in the
- 34:55house and it's great. It's really, really because it's
- 35:02so character-driven. Yes, on the characters.
- 35:05Yeah, they're in. Jeju, and now they're in here.
- 35:07I mean in the beginning when they go to Shanghai, there's a
- 35:09little bit of that but then there's not like those episodes.
- 35:12Other shows were like they go to all these exotic places and now
- 35:15the whole yeah you know yeah it's not like Goblin or
- 35:19descendants of the Sun or Stars. You know.
- 35:22Some of these other shows that in 2016 See the stuff that was
- 35:25the trend was to just go out of the country and spend some money
- 35:29on taking the production overseas.
- 35:31That's not the case for Full House.
- 35:32They went to Shanghai. Well actually they didn't like
- 35:35the film in Thailand and some other places but yeah, they did
- 35:38but it wasn't as elaborately. Yes.
- 35:41Integral to the story. Ryan what they were doing?
- 35:44Yeah. As it is in other shows, right?
- 35:45Exactly. Yeah.
- 35:47It's just them, just going, stir crazy in the house and fighting
- 35:52and yelling, and Getting misunderstood and not
- 35:57communicating and just it's very childish and maybe that's what I
- 36:01like is that I'm getting the high of maybe a high school show
- 36:06without the high school. It's like, it's like a WB show
- 36:09like or UPN show my dating myself.
- 36:13I'm just think of 2004, you know, like it gives giving
- 36:16Dawson's Creek. It's giving like, yeah, you're
- 36:20Veronica Mars or something, I don't know.
- 36:21It's like giving these old shows of that time, at least in the
- 36:24US. Like we had.
- 36:25So yeah. I think it's, I think nowadays
- 36:29is probably a guilty pleasure. For sure, the last thing that
- 36:33I'll say before we get into spoilers is, I was posting some
- 36:35tick-tocks about Full House and this came up in the comments
- 36:38section. Some people were like, this is
- 36:40this rain oh my God, Lorraine looks so good and then some
- 36:44people started posting about rain stinky breath.
- 36:48So real quick. Yeah, this is a vicious rumor
- 36:53that was started by an asshole Idol.
- 36:56Who is now blacklisted and canceled for talking shit online
- 37:00about Rain and other celebrities.
- 37:03So if you are use canceled though, no, that's not what
- 37:07that's not even why you that guy was cancelled, but I'm just
- 37:09saying sucks generally. Yeah, he just sucks.
- 37:11So that guy who was posting about rains breath being stinky
- 37:16and I don't know why this rumor still persists and people either
- 37:19believe in it or they believe in it as a joke.
- 37:22Either way, I don't find it. I don't find it that funny.
- 37:25In fact, it was a pretty, it's not that funny.
- 37:27And I will have bad breath sometimes.
- 37:29Like, I don't know, you know, it's It's it was concerning when
- 37:35people were commenting on it on the video in mass and I was
- 37:38like, I don't, are you joking? Or are you serious that you
- 37:43believe this rumor? I couldn't tell and that was a
- 37:45little scary. That's why I wanted to bring it
- 37:47up now is because this is rain 20 years ago before the internet
- 37:51basically was the internet. Yeah.
- 37:55And some of y'all are real goofy talking about rains breath.
- 37:59When you're not even Like, you are not even a fought in your
- 38:03mama's brain, when he was making a name for himself and putting
- 38:06out music. And if you're listening right
- 38:08now and genuinely think that rains breath stinks, you better
- 38:10check yourself because your breath smells like stale, Hot
- 38:13Cheetos and underage drinking, I swear to God.
- 38:15If I if you genuinely, believe everines breath stinks in a real
- 38:20palpable way. That's like off-putting to other
- 38:23K-pop Idols. I don't know what to tell you.
- 38:27I will also say a that's not grounds like that has nothing,
- 38:30do they? Even if you're right right?
- 38:32What does that mean? I don't that's not an insult,
- 38:34really? I know that's what to say.
- 38:36The other thing is I don't know to contextualize for people who
- 38:39don't know about rain or don't follow Idol or K-pop.
- 38:41Idols, our Kpop rain is like the stock has huge.
- 38:45Yes, let's talk about the reign of it because he was a
- 38:48phenomenon. Yes, he's a legend.
- 38:51He was so huge and he didn't have a group to help back him
- 38:55up. So it's not like, if you didn't
- 38:56like, like most people like to rain, it was like, I put this
- 38:59member that member to like, you just Like to bring in himself
- 39:01and he was the height of like, sexy and like doing kind of
- 39:05innovative things that wasn't really happening in Korea.
- 39:07To that extent. He had offers do and he did do I
- 39:10think Hollywood movies. I know a long time ago, he
- 39:12appeared on like The Colbert Report or some, like American
- 39:15thing was as before K-pop Idols routinely.
- 39:17Shut up on Late Night. American talk shows.
- 39:20You know, I knew who Reign was before, I knew a single other
- 39:22Kpop person like years and years before I got into Kpop and it's
- 39:26you have to respect, like, you don't have to like him or right
- 39:29hand, right? Understand And respect that he
- 39:32was like, a really groundbreaking artist, and he
- 39:37did so many things, and a lot of the people you like, now, if
- 39:40you're a Kpop fan were inspired by him, so you can hate him or
- 39:46like, clown him for his breath, or whatever you want to do.
- 39:48But he was and still is a legend, and he might not be the
- 39:51best, like morally a person. I don't know.
- 39:53Ideally, as far as I know, he's like, not like a scandal-ridden
- 39:56person and he's a father and he's a husband, he's got his own
- 40:00like life. He Has a group called Cipher, I
- 40:03think, which is like a boy group.
- 40:04Now, that's debuted recently, so he has a lot going on and if
- 40:08this what you want to choose to pick on him for you can but like
- 40:11compared to him, you're probably know, nobody just say that like
- 40:18you know, I like his music but I'm not like honestly I think
- 40:22the bottom line is put some more spec on his name because rain
- 40:25was doing this way before your favorite Idol.
- 40:29And again he's A Pioneer and I think a lot of people also don't
- 40:36like rain because of his association with jyp who was a
- 40:39tremendous mentor to him and sign him to jyp and stuff.
- 40:45I think a lot of people also don't know.
- 40:47The rain was pretty groundbreaking in that jyp and
- 40:51other industry insiders were telling him to get plastic
- 40:55surgery and get the double eyelid surgery and he never did.
- 40:59Hmm. Yeah, I've seen them on, other
- 41:01shows being like, Oh, I auditioned and didn't get into
- 41:03SM Entertainment or like, I addition for all these other
- 41:06companies, I don't know for sure if like, gaap gave him his break
- 41:10or his chance or whatever. But I mean, they do have a
- 41:13professional relationship. Everyone finds gaap a little
- 41:15cringey and that's whatever but but on he he stands on his own
- 41:20as well you know regardless of gaap associations.
- 41:23I think. Yes by now for sure.
- 41:25I agree. I agree.
- 41:26Also watch him in Ninja Assassin from 2009 because A movie is
- 41:29trash but I'll it was like good trash.
- 41:31So, on that note, I think we're going to get into spoilers for
- 41:38Full House. So, keep listening.
- 41:40If you want to be spoiled or have already watched Full House.
- 41:50You want to come here? All right.
- 41:51We're on the other side of spoilers.
- 41:52So we're going to talk about Full House and all of the plot
- 41:56details. Not too many plot details
- 41:58because there's not that much. But Mina, I think you had
- 42:02something specific. You wanted to start off on so
- 42:05hit me with it. Okay.
- 42:07I want to know why her bestie AK?
- 42:11Someone who defrauded her jin-hee.
- 42:14Why was she never showing signs of pregnancy.
- 42:16Okay, so really bothersome to me I have in my notes BFF who is
- 42:22pregnant but never looks pregnant question.
- 42:24Mark question mark because the whole thing of why they robbed
- 42:28her Of her house and sold it under her, was because she was
- 42:33pregnant, and they were a couple of bombs.
- 42:36They had no money. She got cut off from her, rich
- 42:38dad, and they were like, well married, yeah, they yeah, out of
- 42:42wedlock and stuff. They were pregnant out of
- 42:44wedlock and they needed money. They needed funds or whatever.
- 42:48For the baby evidently. There was no baby because she
- 42:52never appeared pregnant throughout the course of the
- 42:56show. And I'm talking like it.
- 42:59Was a logical how she never seen?
- 43:02He was a size zero the yes. Right.
- 43:05Right, but she also kept saying like the baby's coming soon, the
- 43:07bees any day now. It's coming thither like
- 43:10Eminence. So it's not that they kept like,
- 43:14looking at her belly and be like, oh, the baby.
- 43:16Like what? Baby, what, baby, where are you?
- 43:19Hiding this baby? Because she was not with child.
- 43:23There is no way that woman was with child.
- 43:26No, and I remember thinking that too and I first watch Full House
- 43:30was like, what the fuck is this? Like she's not pregnant and in
- 43:33no way. Has some like Health scares were
- 43:36like she gets pushed her she falls, it's like, oh no, we
- 43:38gotta get the baby. Like, we gotta go to the
- 43:40hospital, make sure the baby's, okay.
- 43:41It's like, okay, fine. But then later there was like,
- 43:44she looked exactly the same. Like there was never even a hint
- 43:47of a bump or hint of anything. Nothing.
- 43:52Nothing. I hated it.
- 43:54I hated it so much. Much.
- 43:57And something else that I had a question about was rain.
- 44:00Comes from an affluent, well educated family.
- 44:02His father is a surgeon or a doctor in a hospital setting
- 44:08well regarded and they said that rain also got into medical
- 44:15school. Yeah.
- 44:17And I was like, okay, wait, wait, wait, do we actually
- 44:22believe that brain was a smart cookie and could?
- 44:26Into medical school that character, okay?
- 44:30I thought read this as more of like a nepotism thing and I
- 44:33don't know how easy or difficult it is or was back then to do
- 44:36that to be like I'm the like chief of whatever of this
- 44:38hospital. So my son's going to med school
- 44:40and the fact that it seemed like rains character didn't go to med
- 44:44school and didn't become a doctor to spite his father.
- 44:46So it wasn't even about like his smartness or lack thereof is not
- 44:50relevant. It was just like I'm here
- 44:51disappoint, my father bear. You know, it never occurred to
- 44:58me about the nepotism thing. Well I don't know if that's the
- 45:00thing, I don't know, but in the world of this, it could be like,
- 45:02why not? You know, this lady Zara
- 45:03pregnant you don't need to actually like apply to med
- 45:06school. You can stuff your dad calling
- 45:08calling to to attend, but I don't know.
- 45:11I also feel like rains character is a little bit, had a little
- 45:15more Integrity than that, I don't know, maybe a maybe for
- 45:19med school. He was a little more serious and
- 45:22bit up for everything else, he's pretty goofy.
- 45:24But, anyway, let's talk about Episode 1 because it starts with
- 45:28rain shirtless in bed which that sets the tone that sets the
- 45:33tone. For the whole show is like rain
- 45:36getting up and going through his routine as a celebrity and he
- 45:39has no privacy and he doesn't like when people are asking
- 45:42about his private life and who he's dating in the tabloids and
- 45:45all this shit. Like it's established that he
- 45:47wants some distance from the city and it's no surprise that
- 45:52he gets this. He wants this house that's
- 45:54secluded and by this Lake and you know, There's no Paparazzi
- 45:57whatsoever at the house, the friends Swindle her and they
- 46:01sell they send her on the trip, the flight over to Chiang Rai.
- 46:10Oh my God, a comedy of errors. It's hysterical.
- 46:16What did you think of this sequence?
- 46:18Well, okay vomiting on raid, the Mayberry thing Just one of the
- 46:27best meat cubes I've seen because it's Preposterous and
- 46:32it's unrelenting everything that she's doing on the flight is
- 46:37unacceptable to pretty much any standard.
- 46:42Like, it doesn't matter if you're a person who likes to
- 46:44dress up four flights or go in your PJs and take a fucking
- 46:48teddy bear with you, everything that she's doing is just bad,
- 46:53practice it on a flight. Right.
- 46:57Reaching over him, asking for more food asking for this
- 47:00asking, if I attended for that and then getting ill enough to
- 47:03puke on him and because she is struggling.
- 47:07She's yeah, shoveling food into her gullet.
- 47:11And there is noticing her in-flight magazine and being
- 47:14like, hey, are you this? The celebrity guys that?
- 47:16Yeah. I'm on the shoulder.
- 47:17Like, is this you and he's like, bro, leave me alone.
- 47:21He was like, he pretends to go to sleep.
- 47:23And she's like, okay, rude. And I'm like, Shut up like a
- 47:28song hye-kyo, please when she's tossing, the nuts up and she
- 47:32liked apples. Like, did you see that?
- 47:33I caught the knife, my mouth, get you scheduled it, with her
- 47:37mouth, the throwing up all over it for.
- 47:40She's like, looking at his customs, declaration car, trying
- 47:43to like, figure out how to do it.
- 47:46And he's like, like they're take as if they're taking a test in
- 47:49school, and she's copying him, and he's like, like leaning
- 47:52over. It's so great.
- 47:54Like, you know, how that you put on those cards, like what
- 47:57address you'll be at in. Yeah, the cognac Landing in, I
- 48:00thought he was like, covering it because he was like this, this
- 48:03could be like a crazy psycho stalker fan of mine.
- 48:06So like, I don't know where, you know, where my address in
- 48:09Shanghai is going to be, so I'm covering it.
- 48:12Maybe I'm just too immersed in a, that's the truth.
- 48:14I so, you know, that's something that I didn't even think of that
- 48:17his address might be on there. And he doesn't want her looking
- 48:20at it. I think she was just, it's not
- 48:22just that she's nosy. See, it's that she does.
- 48:24She's literally never been on a plane before.
- 48:27Never been out of the country before.
- 48:29So she doesn't know how to fill up the cup of what to put on the
- 48:31Customs card. But Chic Mom it's all over him
- 48:36because she Taps him and she's like I don't know if you know
- 48:39this was like my first time on a plane.
- 48:41My first time flying. Did you know that you can
- 48:46swallow to get rid of like the pressure in your ears and he's
- 48:50listening to her just rolling. His eyes doesn't want anything.
- 48:53To do with her and she's like, watch me swallow like this and
- 48:58she likes to swallow pukes all over him.
- 49:06It's hysterical and his shock just like it's like
- 49:11shell-shocked. It's not even upset necessarily.
- 49:14He gets more upset later when he's trying to get the vomit out
- 49:17of a shirt. But oh my God, it's comedy gold.
- 49:22I was recently in London a few months ago and they had this
- 49:25exhibit for the how you wave the Korean wave at the Victoria and
- 49:29Albert Museum in London. And one of the things they had
- 49:31it was like all this kdrama stuff and they had everything
- 49:33like Kpop kdrama and they had, they were just playing on a loop
- 49:36at the scene of them on the plane, but it wasn't like the
- 49:39whole thing because they didn't just to watch her projectile,
- 49:42vomit the whole time, but it was like her like a sitting down him
- 49:45sitting down and her being like are you the celebrity?
- 49:47And they just kept. Yeah, I was like Full House and
- 49:51need to watch that. And so, So that was great to see
- 49:54you later. Oh my God.
- 49:55Yeah, it's such a good scene and really the hijinks that happens
- 49:59the sort of slapstick comedy is so common.
- 50:03I feel like now in the lighter kdramas especially not like the
- 50:07squid game. All of us are dead kingdom ones
- 50:11but the glory didn't have any of this but you feel me?
- 50:14No her meeting her meet Q with the second male lead when they
- 50:21go to the hotel. She finally gets to the hotel,
- 50:24she stiffs, the cab driver. That was brutal to watch.
- 50:28I think you can possibly died of second-hand embarrassment from
- 50:33watching the show because everything, she the first
- 50:36episode of the show. Yeah.
- 50:37So she gets in there. Obviously there's no reservation
- 50:41at this nice hotel but the second male lead roles up.
- 50:44Start speaking Japanese on the phone.
- 50:46And when he hangs up, he looks at her because they're both
- 50:49standing at the check-in counter and she starts.
- 50:52Talking to him in Korean thinking, he's Japanese and
- 50:57doesn't understand Korean. And she says stuff.
- 51:00Le why are you looking at me? Do you think I'm pretty?
- 51:04And I was like, shut up like, just shut up.
- 51:08So I'm gonna kill and he ends up helping obviously, they turned
- 51:13to her. The front desk girl goes.
- 51:15You have no reservation and she doesn't speak Mandarin English.
- 51:20Oh, yeah, I know, was she Really started.
- 51:23And yeah. And then she's the front desk.
- 51:25Lady switch to English and she didn't understand either, right?
- 51:29So then he swoops in and saves her and he starts talking in
- 51:32Korean, and I was like, oh God, this is so embarrassing and he
- 51:37helps her get the reservation set up because he's speaking to
- 51:40the different density in English, when he walks away,
- 51:44she's just like oh my God, she puts her head on the counter and
- 51:48just it was such a great moment and He walks away smiling, which
- 51:55is an even greater like even greater, right?
- 51:58He's, he was just entertained and handsome and cute and I was
- 52:02like, oh my God. Yeah, I just love those meet
- 52:10cutes. I love that bit of episode 1
- 52:12because it hooks you in, right away, right away.
- 52:17The first episode also had something that was really
- 52:20questionable because towards the end rain brings her to this
- 52:25dinner with the second female lead and the second male lead
- 52:29thinking that this is huge misunderstanding.
- 52:33He thinks that some guy kill is the ex-girlfriend of the yeah of
- 52:40the best friend minhyuk, the second male lead and he gets
- 52:44upset that that's not the case she Said this made it seem like
- 52:49she was related to him so that he would give her money so she
- 52:51could get the hell back to Korea because he had no funds.
- 52:55And he motions to like hit her. Like he goes like this.
- 52:59Like raises his hand to hit her. And I remember this distinctly
- 53:03that she calls him out on it saying like, oh yeah.
- 53:05Oh you're a real jerk and taunts him and goes like your hippie
- 53:09hippie. Go ahead like hit me.
- 53:10Yeah. And then boom, she headbutts
- 53:12him. Yeah.
- 53:15And he's like ah so I was like damn girl.
- 53:21Like yeah, she's like Shameless. Yeah.
- 53:27So to get into the more like a little bit into the more I
- 53:30guess. Poignant parts of her
- 53:32characters. She is an orphan her.
- 53:35Her parents died in an accident when she was in Middle School.
- 53:38She had to bring herself up in this giant empty house somehow
- 53:42which they never fully. Explain how exactly that
- 53:44happened and then heard only two friends in the world like are
- 53:48jerks and so she doesn't care. Like she kind of has like, no
- 53:52F's to give. She doesn't care if you're a
- 53:53celebrity, she doesn't care about like you know kind of
- 53:56pretense. So when he's acting like that
- 53:58with her, she doesn't care. She's like, oh well go ahead and
- 54:01hit me. What do you do?
- 54:02Like doesn't have any could care less.
- 54:05She's nothing to lose by being kind of tacky and she kind of is
- 54:07like, etiquette wise a little on the tacky side because I'm super
- 54:11tacky her. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:13At the 30 later, I think in episode 2, they go to like this
- 54:17launch party and she shows up and he's like, what are you
- 54:21doing here? Because they he'd refused to
- 54:24take her to the party. So she just shows up and she's
- 54:28eating at the buffet and she Drew she drops like chocolate or
- 54:31something on her dress. Yeah.
- 54:33And he's like, she's like she was are filling up her plate to
- 54:36with like every everything from the buffet table, I like eating
- 54:40stuff from the buffet table, while also like trying to put on
- 54:42the plate with it. It was, it's a little it's
- 54:46painful. It's painful knowing why I
- 54:48cringe? It's a lot of Courage for us the
- 54:51viewer. Yes, but she has, I mean, you
- 54:55touch on like her personality traits but I also think that she
- 54:59has a lot of Pride because when she finds out that rain has
- 55:04bought her house and he's living.
- 55:06Now in her house, he asks, her, if she's homeless and she never
- 55:11thought of it that way, that right now, she's Destitute and
- 55:14homeless and he tries to give her money out of pity.
- 55:17He's like, just take this money and go and live your life and
- 55:21like figure out your situation and she takes this gesture so
- 55:25badly. She doesn't consider herself at
- 55:28all homeless and out of Pride. She rejects the money and storms
- 55:32out. So it's interesting to see how
- 55:36she, I mean, if I was in that situation and someone was like,
- 55:40here's a Wad of money for you to just get back on your feet.
- 55:46I'd be like, you know what? Thank you because I don't have a
- 55:50penny to my name right now. They've cleared out my savings.
- 55:54She doesn't have a home, like she really didn't think it
- 55:59through and was had a bad temper about it.
- 56:02If whatever you want to call it and she storms out of the house.
- 56:06Yeah. But I think the fact that her
- 56:08late father built the house with his own, two hands and designed
- 56:10it and That's all she has of that family.
- 56:13Yes that's all that's why she's like I'm not fucking leaving
- 56:16like a look like but then also my thing is she doesn't report
- 56:22the friends to the police know which would essentially start
- 56:27the criminal process because they committed a crime.
- 56:32Oh, I don't understand that either is like she has no, like
- 56:38she wants to stay in the house. She's imposing upon this guy who
- 56:42thinks that he bought the house fair and square.
- 56:44When really it was fraud and like she doesn't remedy, try and
- 56:49remedy the situation in any legal way.
- 56:52I wondered about that too. I was like, is it?
- 56:54Because she doesn't have like legal funds, you know, for that
- 56:57or like what that would entail like.
- 56:58It's not as simple as you file, a police report and it's over.
- 57:00You have to like, get lawyers involved you to like go to court
- 57:03all the time and she has to her a little internet writing to do
- 57:06wherever she makes money your, but it's whatever she does
- 57:08before this happens. So I wondered if that was and
- 57:11also the loyalty to like her friends, don't look, who has
- 57:16the, the guy, right, couple her, a couple friends, that that's
- 57:20her childhood friend. And maybe he did in some point
- 57:22in her life, like Out for her. And he/she does view him as
- 57:24family. So she was gonna sell him out
- 57:26even though they sold her out, literally, she was going to sell
- 57:28him out. I don't know.
- 57:29That's that's just the thoughts. I had about that because I was
- 57:31so was like, can you sort this out a different way?
- 57:35But I think yeah that that whole thing is like a debacle to me is
- 57:41very baffling to see how she handled the situation.
- 57:43But one thing that I think is really nice about the show is in
- 57:49re watching it, I saw that rains character.
- 57:53Youngjae started to like her almost immediately.
- 57:58Which I thought was very, I don't know it just made me
- 58:00really happy, you know, he kicks her out of the house and episode
- 58:042. Yeah.
- 58:05She catches a really mean fever, high fever and he takes care of
- 58:10her and he cooks her porridge and he lets her stay in the
- 58:13house and all this stuff. And then when she is pissed,
- 58:16after he offers her money, she goes down the street to the
- 58:20local bus stop and he watches her.
- 58:22He is driving out for something in his little tiny Mercedes car.
- 58:28And he's watching her at the bus, stop, like annoyed, he's
- 58:32like annoyed when she mouths off at him, but then he wants her to
- 58:35be okay, and he's worried about her well-being and he sort of
- 58:40Tricks her into coming back to the house and be signing this
- 58:45weird agreement that says like oh I'm going to be your maid
- 58:49live-in. Maid and I'm going to work off
- 58:51like the value of the house or something like that.
- 58:53It's really weird. Yeah, which he doesn't have to
- 58:56do all this. Yeah, I wondered like, I kept
- 59:00trying to think of reasons like their motivations for everything
- 59:02that they were doing, because honestly, the first few episodes
- 59:04I was just baffled. I was like, this is all
- 59:06happening too fast. Like she's, she's in Shanghai.
- 59:08And now she's like penniless and now she's back in Korea and now
- 59:11she's on this like double date and like all that's happening,
- 59:14so fast. And so, with regards to like,
- 59:18why he wanted her around, like I think he liked her, like you
- 59:21said, because maybe the fact that she's so, like, it doesn't
- 59:24have pretension does not is not fazed by him being a celebrity
- 59:27and he That's refreshing for him because everyone's always like
- 59:30trying to grab his attention and impressed by him everywhere he
- 59:32goes and she's not really, and that she has her own Pride
- 59:35despite like he was like here, I'll throw money at this
- 59:37problem. I could do to all my problems.
- 59:39Maybe and that didn't do anything for her and then my
- 59:42think he didn't want to be alone.
- 59:44Yeah, he wanted seclusion and all that he just didn't want to
- 59:46be alone alone. Hmm, yeah, exactly.
- 59:50I think he really craved that. Extra person because he's been
- 59:55alone for so long. He doesn't have a good
- 59:56relationship with his family, he eats alone and everything.
- 1:00:00And so her is, she's livening up his life and even in episode 2,
- 1:00:06where he refuses to take her to the launch party.
- 1:00:08He gives her shitty ass script, to his manager at the party and
- 1:00:13is like, hey, like check this out and see if it's any good and
- 1:00:17even though he doesn't say like it's this lady that's living in
- 1:00:19my house. It's where's this is her house
- 1:00:22and she's My live-in housemaid, he doesn't give any of that
- 1:00:26context, but he actually is trying to look out for her and
- 1:00:30trying to push her work forward and I was like, that's a huge
- 1:00:34step, you know, I think it humanized him because it's
- 1:00:37especially nowadays in kdramas when you see two balls or like,
- 1:00:40celebrities are powerful people characters.
- 1:00:43They're always, like, heartless, cold and horrible and youngjae
- 1:00:47character is so humanized. He has this like whole bag is
- 1:00:50like, sad sob story backstory this thing with his family.
- 1:00:52His life isn't easy. I thought one of the really
- 1:00:54well-done scenes and your, the film critic.
- 1:00:56So you tell me, but was in episode 1, when he's going
- 1:01:00through the Press, call or whatever.
- 1:01:01The Press thing, like continuous lie, saying the same, like
- 1:01:04regurgitating, the same answers to the same questions to like
- 1:01:07various languages and like, kind of canned responses.
- 1:01:11And his life isn't that great. Even though he is a celebrity
- 1:01:14and what most people especially 2004, perceived of as being like
- 1:01:17God, like or being like the luckiest man on Earth.
- 1:01:20He wasn't that. Yeah, I love that.
- 1:01:22Scene. I love that scene and it reminds
- 1:01:24me of a few were privy to the breast or of a star is born with
- 1:01:30Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper a little bit.
- 1:01:32Okay, this is, I mean, this was a phenomenon, but because of the
- 1:01:36internet, this made the rounds of Lady Gaga doing the kick, and
- 1:01:39responsive it, whether there's a hon, if there's a hundred people
- 1:01:43in a room, all it takes is one person to be driving every time
- 1:01:51and it became so me mobile. Well, and so funny to hear these
- 1:01:55Super Cuts that people made of her saying the same freaking
- 1:01:58response over and over. It's real like that felt like a
- 1:02:01very real seen. Not only see him going through
- 1:02:05modern day. Yeah, it always relied modern
- 1:02:08day. We have that context now that
- 1:02:10like the smoke and mirrors of being a celebrity is a lot more
- 1:02:14lifted. Now, compared in 2004 where,
- 1:02:17that might have been People's First Time, realizing what it's
- 1:02:18like to go through a press call like that, damn white.
- 1:02:22Eight. Right exactly.
- 1:02:25I completely agree with you that it did pull back the curtain a
- 1:02:28little bit and inform his character and see that he's
- 1:02:31lonely. Yeah you know, poor little rain,
- 1:02:35pour a little rain, but don't feel too bad for him because
- 1:02:38he's like kind of a terror, the rest of them show a little bit
- 1:02:41of a tyrant. So I was confused about the
- 1:02:45second female lead because help, let's talk about anyone because
- 1:02:51I want is a freaking mess. Yeah.
- 1:02:54Um, mess and she had feelings for minhyeok the second male
- 1:03:00lead, so there was a love square that was happening in the show
- 1:03:04for the bulk of it. If you're into love squares and
- 1:03:06good on you, this is a show for you this.
- 1:03:10So in episode 2, she is trying to assert her A feelings over.
- 1:03:15The second male lead over Min yolk and milk is not having it.
- 1:03:20He's like, I don't like you. I see you as a sibling, it's
- 1:03:23not, we're not good together. I don't, you know, you don't
- 1:03:26really like me. He's challenging her feelings.
- 1:03:29And he says, also youngjae likes you young, she has feelings for
- 1:03:34you and it never occurred to her in all the years that they've
- 1:03:38been friends that she is, has friend-zoned like youngjae, I
- 1:03:43said, And so at this big party, she like aggressively and
- 1:03:50cruelly, confronts rain about his feelings and she's like do
- 1:03:54you like me in a very like maliciously?
- 1:03:57You know, and challenges him to confess on the spot and that's
- 1:04:01when he goes He instead of actually you know, broaching the
- 1:04:06subject with her, he takes it badly and he says, I really like
- 1:04:13you. You and Ian and grab something
- 1:04:17that kills character and pulls her in for a kiss.
- 1:04:20And that's how the episode ends in this big.
- 1:04:22Like, oh my God, with all of these other celebrities and
- 1:04:26people in the industry and Paparazzi and media.
- 1:04:28There he does. This huge gesture in front of
- 1:04:32everyone and declares he likes Han jieun.
- 1:04:35So it just spirals from there, the contract, marriage and
- 1:04:40stuff, which I don't know why they would jump to marriage
- 1:04:44after that. It's like, I think because,
- 1:04:47like, in conservative societies, it's hard to justify living
- 1:04:49together as a guy and a girl. Unless I gave more, I need like
- 1:04:58more backstory to be explained and they didn't explain like
- 1:05:01anything. So I was just filling in my own
- 1:05:02life as far as what's going on, but that was my take on.
- 1:05:06It was like, they needed to like show like a legitimate reason to
- 1:05:08be living in this house together.
- 1:05:10Yeah, she's my live-in. Maid.
- 1:05:13In episode 3, she gets kidnapped basically by his estranged
- 1:05:16family. And she meets the grandma For
- 1:05:19the First Time, The Hominy and hungy and has no idea how to
- 1:05:24kowtow like the big bow, and it's funny, it's really funny.
- 1:05:31And even now I think it's funny, the grandma is not happy that
- 1:05:35her parents are dead and that she's that she's 20.
- 1:05:40She's only T3. And that's what she says in the
- 1:05:42show that her character is also 23 show.
- 1:05:45She matches the age of the character in real life and I
- 1:05:51thought this was so refreshing. This is something we don't see
- 1:05:54in kdramas, nowadays, this overt Korean - right, like, what is
- 1:06:00the grandma so upset about, right?
- 1:06:02It's that he got engaged and she doesn't, she's never met this
- 1:06:06girl before. He's never taken her by the
- 1:06:08house. He's never introduced her to the
- 1:06:10family. She's Going to become part of
- 1:06:12the family without having met them.
- 1:06:15And that's why she's upset because in their culture that's
- 1:06:17just frowned upon and then she comes and meets the elders.
- 1:06:21They kidnap her, like they're like, get in the car and the
- 1:06:24come. So, but anyway, she gets there.
- 1:06:26She's meeting the elders and she doesn't bow deeply and
- 1:06:30respectfully enough enough. Yeah, she does this weird
- 1:06:33curtsy, which it's funny but it's all funny.
- 1:06:37Furnace is. Yeah.
- 1:06:38I know. She's super awkward and the
- 1:06:41Grandma's not Not happy about her being an orphan.
- 1:06:45And you're like, what gives, what does it matter that she's
- 1:06:48an orphan. So I will speak to this a little
- 1:06:51bit and again, I'm not Korean since this is a voice
- 1:06:54podcasting, but my family South Asian there from Bangladesh and
- 1:06:58in that culture was like arranged marriages and things
- 1:07:00like that. Having a quote unquote good
- 1:07:02match is seems like, you know, you come from a comparably good
- 1:07:05or better than your family and families, marry each other.
- 1:07:08Like it's your family, marry their family, so they have to
- 1:07:11come from. Family.
- 1:07:12Having at least how I understand it.
- 1:07:14And this is again, my understanding I never lived in
- 1:07:16Bangladesh. So like I don't know, I'm
- 1:07:17talking about necessarily and this is like an old-school
- 1:07:19thought. Anyway, I don't think this is
- 1:07:21something that is still a thing and I think Grandma represented
- 1:07:23definitely old school. Korean s versus whatever is
- 1:07:26going was going on 2004 and Beyond.
- 1:07:28But I know in my family of kind of heard here and there about
- 1:07:31like Marrying, an orphan can be considered if you buy into this
- 1:07:35old-school, frame of thought a bad thing because it's not like
- 1:07:38you come from a good family, you come from, no family, have
- 1:07:41nothing. Being so you have no like title
- 1:07:43or lineage or this or that or I don't know.
- 1:07:46And I also kind of struggle to understand why that's like a
- 1:07:48quote unquote bad thing to that extent.
- 1:07:50I kind of realized or identified more with like the whole grandma
- 1:07:53getting upset that we don't even know this girl, you never
- 1:07:55introduced her to us, like, how, you know who is she like, how
- 1:07:57can we meet her now? Like this?
- 1:07:59And we have to hear about this after you're engaged or
- 1:08:00whatever, but, but yeah, there is possibly a school of thoughts
- 1:08:04and again, consult a Korean person.
- 1:08:06Because I don't know that marrying into an orphaned
- 1:08:09person's life, I guess. She's they don't have much of a
- 1:08:12family. The, in this show, she didn't
- 1:08:15have like extended family, either like, Aunts Uncles or
- 1:08:18anything. So she's just her alone.
- 1:08:20So there's nothing to go off of. You don't know if she's like
- 1:08:22from a good family or not. Exactly.
- 1:08:24Yeah, I think that's exactly what the case was was that she
- 1:08:29doesn't have people like she doesn't have people to back her
- 1:08:32up. She doesn't have people to teach
- 1:08:37her right from wrong and that's why I think in a lot of older
- 1:08:40shows. Especially when kids are orphans
- 1:08:43or when people are young people are orphans.
- 1:08:45They're like no they're just going to be a bad influence
- 1:08:50because they have nobody at home.
- 1:08:51That's keeping them in check. You also have no one to reflect
- 1:08:55back. Like what kind of person you may
- 1:08:56be? So if I'm meeting you for the
- 1:08:57first time and I don't have any contacts, you're not like my
- 1:09:00father is a judge or like, my mother was a schoolteacher like
- 1:09:03that. You kind of start to formulate
- 1:09:05like, oh, you, you're probably maybe motherly because your
- 1:09:07mother was a schoolteacher. So she's probably with kids and
- 1:09:09you can formal these little background.
- 1:09:11Sera, Sera. And if you are someone who
- 1:09:13doesn't have parents or were you were not raised by parents.
- 1:09:16You'd there's nothing for you to go off of to judge you.
- 1:09:19And unfortunately that's what they want to do is like judge.
- 1:09:21I also do know that in Korea they used to do arranged
- 1:09:23marriage through like the 90s, all those like not uncommon.
- 1:09:26So I think all that combined was just like showing its ugly head
- 1:09:31at this in this episode. Yeah.
- 1:09:33And throughout the show whenever she visits the in-laws, there's
- 1:09:37different things that are so Korean.
- 1:09:40It's so much Steeped in their culture that you feel.
- 1:09:44And I still feel like this show had no idea that it was going to
- 1:09:49be seen by anybody outside of Korea.
- 1:09:51And that's a nice. I feel like that's a nice
- 1:09:53feeling to see. Like the raw, this is was
- 1:09:55intended. Not for me.
- 1:09:57And I'm gleaning so much from it.
- 1:09:59I'm getting so entertained by it.
- 1:10:01I love these characters and I'm learning, right?
- 1:10:05I'm learning about their culture, I can look things up
- 1:10:08the same thing happens later in the show where they come back
- 1:10:10from their honeymoon, which We will talk about the honeymoon,
- 1:10:14but they come back and they go over to the house.
- 1:10:19After getting a really mad call, like, they call over and the
- 1:10:23in-laws are pissed or like, what get over here right now.
- 1:10:26Why aren't you at the house? Why don't you come visit us and
- 1:10:30hungy and comes over and she's wearing regular clothes.
- 1:10:33And the grandma says, like, how is she?
- 1:10:36Why is she here in regular clothes?
- 1:10:38She should be wearing hum book. Which again this is part like
- 1:10:43I'm like oh my God like this is very creepy and right, we don't
- 1:10:47get this in recent dramas where it doesn't necessarily matter
- 1:10:52that the newly married, couple, go to visit the parents and they
- 1:10:57the bride is wearing hum book and they bring this traditional
- 1:11:01dinner for them to eat and stuff like that.
- 1:11:04That is all there. That's all culture that were not
- 1:11:08getting any more in kdramas because they there Building
- 1:11:12these kdramas and making them for an international audience.
- 1:11:14Don't I don't think they do that because I can tell you in
- 1:11:16Bangladesh. There's not as many people
- 1:11:18walking around in like sarees and stuff.
- 1:11:20So right right there are for sure.
- 1:11:23But I mean like the whole like like a ceremonious like I need
- 1:11:26to greet my grandmother-in-law with like home-cooked,
- 1:11:29traditional dishes that proving how well I cook in traditional
- 1:11:32outfits knowing like, showing I know how to dress like, how to
- 1:11:35be a traditional quote unquote, good girl.
- 1:11:37Like that's like a whole ceremony as thing and I don't
- 1:11:39know that anyone's doing that anymore.
- 1:11:41Right, because it's 2023. However, in 2004, I feel like
- 1:11:46they were still on the cusp of this, right, right.
- 1:11:49This era of like new school and the old ways and the grandma
- 1:11:53keeps saying daughter showed that they need if she needs to
- 1:11:55move in with them so that they can teach her things and I'm
- 1:11:59like, what are they trying to teach on Jian and they're
- 1:12:02talking about cooking cleaning that the family ways to societal
- 1:12:06rules, these sort of ceremonial things that she has no idea
- 1:12:11because Living in Full House by herself for most of her life.
- 1:12:15And now in Korea you don't need like the emphasis on that as
- 1:12:18much because everyone works outside of the home, right?
- 1:12:21Both men and women people are like ordering you know, ubereats
- 1:12:25or whatever, the Korean version isn't that coupon eat coupon
- 1:12:27eats to their home for food. They're not like cooking a bunch
- 1:12:30of stuff and wearing Han Buck here and there so that's why we
- 1:12:32don't see it now I think and it's I think you're right, you
- 1:12:35hit on something which is that this turn this Millennial kind
- 1:12:38of show where there's still kind of got one foot in like
- 1:12:41traditional. Well, Korean stuff.
- 1:12:42That was more important back then and old-school style
- 1:12:45thinking versus This Modern because like the mom does it,
- 1:12:48rains mom or the characters mom? She's not.
- 1:12:50Yeah, she doesn't care as much. She's just like they're just let
- 1:12:54them be happy. It's fine.
- 1:12:56If they don't visit us right after their honeymoon like it's
- 1:13:00just she's took a peacemaker, she's very sweet and caring and
- 1:13:05she'll cook anything that that hungy and likes and prefers
- 1:13:09food-wise. But she's really Just a product
- 1:13:13of, you know, being subservient to her mother-in-law this
- 1:13:18grandmother character. So she's just going along with
- 1:13:21whatever she's want, sirs complaining about but she's not,
- 1:13:25she's not believing the right stuff.
- 1:13:28Yeah. No, she's not into that.
- 1:13:30Yeah, the in-laws playing go stop as well.
- 1:13:34My God so cute. I was like, this is a dorm.
- 1:13:37I miss this stuff seeing this. Is that she endured her.
- 1:13:42I mean, she kind of grew up seemingly without grandparents
- 1:13:44without elders, and she fits so well into a family and it was,
- 1:13:48like, kind of heartbreaking when you stop to think about.
- 1:13:51Like she didn't have this kind of familial like we're just
- 1:13:53going to informally play go-stop or like a guest America, play
- 1:13:56Monopoly, or whatever. It is like family game night
- 1:13:58stuff. But she fits in so.
- 1:14:00Well despite her like kind of tackiness her kind of unpolished
- 1:14:04you know presentation. She's just like a super
- 1:14:07endearing and real person and ears every herself to everyone.
- 1:14:11Yeah. Yeah, she becomes Three Bears to
- 1:14:14the family because when she gets up with see these, fantastic,
- 1:14:18they're like you didn't bring any gifts to us after the
- 1:14:22honeymoon. And she was like, well, I
- 1:14:25prepared a gift for you guys and then she goes, I brought a song
- 1:14:32for you guys. I prepared a song.
- 1:14:33So she stands up and performs this children's song about the
- 1:14:39three bears, and there's the look on their Her face when she
- 1:14:42finishes the song. It's just seared In My Memory
- 1:14:48because it's so funny. And they're shocked that she's
- 1:14:53like so childish and almost like it.
- 1:14:56She has to be joking. But she's not.
- 1:14:58She was completely sincere. Right?
- 1:15:04Oh God. So then they call her three
- 1:15:05bears for the rest of the ship. Three Bears is coming over.
- 1:15:08I called three bears and it's so great.
- 1:15:11Yeah. Also, one other thing that I
- 1:15:13thought was like, oh man, we don't see this in kdramas
- 1:15:15anymore is hungy and Prix rains finger after he nearly chokes
- 1:15:20on, like bibimbap that he would, he made fun of her for eating
- 1:15:24bibimbap and then later he's alone in the house, she's not
- 1:15:27obviously there to cook for him and he creates his own bibimbap
- 1:15:30bowl and she walks in on him, stuffing his face with this
- 1:15:33bowl. He starts choking on it so
- 1:15:35indigestion, right? This was a thing like this is an
- 1:15:39old wives tale, right? Where are like, maybe it's
- 1:15:42related to to like Eastern medicine.
- 1:15:44Yeah, exactly. Where if you have indigestion or
- 1:15:47stomach issues, you prick your thumb and it just solves the
- 1:15:53issue. So I don't.
- 1:15:54Yeah, I mean, that God, right? Exactly, so when I saw that, I
- 1:16:01was like, holy shit. When was the last time I saw
- 1:16:04someone prick, somebody's finger in a kdrama with, for getting
- 1:16:09rid of stomach issues like that, was that Kind of stuff that I
- 1:16:12was very excited to see, again, everything she did.
- 1:16:17And again, I am an over-thinker. So, I was just overthinking all
- 1:16:19the stuff but, like the singing, the three bears and using these
- 1:16:22kind of old remedies old wives tales type remedies.
- 1:16:26I think it's just everything. She remembered her parents doing
- 1:16:28in the short time, they were with her is what she just kept
- 1:16:30like modeling. So she's like, I know this
- 1:16:32nursery rhyme, they sing to my parents and then they
- 1:16:34unfortunately passed away by the time I reached like adolescence
- 1:16:37and I can do these like really old school remedies.
- 1:16:40But But because that's all that she had time to witness them
- 1:16:44doing for her. And and so she takes the care
- 1:16:47and whatever she had from her family for the short time that
- 1:16:49they were there and and kind of like puts it back out in the
- 1:16:52world, every she goes like, yeah, hon.
- 1:16:56Jian is such a cute. So I took cute character.
- 1:16:59Truly episode were jumping back to episode 3 because we were
- 1:17:04jumping around with like the Korean this stuff.
- 1:17:07But in episode 3, she tries to run away from the wedding which
- 1:17:11I found really. Kind of funny like The Runaway
- 1:17:13Bride thing, because she fights with him, and it's like, I'm not
- 1:17:18getting married to you. Why am I doing this?
- 1:17:20And she goes over to her. Swindler friends is Jump of a
- 1:17:23house to get away and they trick her into going to the wedding
- 1:17:27venue which humbly. I was like, wow, she's really
- 1:17:33stupid and gullible but I love to see the wedding scene because
- 1:17:39his dad is really sweet to her. And he tells her that she looks
- 1:17:44beautiful and that, you know, his boy is short-tempered, but
- 1:17:48he's a good kid. Please take care of him and he
- 1:17:52walks her down the aisle since she literally has no family and
- 1:17:56I found that. So just emotional.
- 1:18:00And even though the show is unserious, like we said before
- 1:18:04this moment was really nice. Okay, but that wedding dress,
- 1:18:07though, ugliest wedding dress. I have ever seen the back of it
- 1:18:14looked nice because it had the long back, the long train and
- 1:18:19stuff and then you look at the front and I'm like, what is
- 1:18:22going on? O.o girl like 2004 I was like, I
- 1:18:25don't know what is happening. Like it was short and there was
- 1:18:29a lot of like loose lace or something.
- 1:18:33Yeah, not a little remedy things.
- 1:18:35Yeah, I don't even know. 80s in the front.
- 1:18:37Yeah, I don't think in the back. I was like, girl they did you
- 1:18:42dirty with this wedding? Because she did pick, it was all
- 1:18:45just sort of arranged for her but then you get the honeymoon
- 1:18:49scene. Yeah I frickin love honeymoon.
- 1:18:53It is so. So the Thailand honeymoon so he
- 1:18:59says they should work out their fight, they fight.
- 1:19:01Oh, they're always fighting and obviously they're not sharing a
- 1:19:05bed and so She's like, where am I going to sleep?
- 1:19:08And he says that she's gonna sleep outside and island in the
- 1:19:14summer and she's like, I'm not sleeping outside.
- 1:19:18So they have a little fight and she says, they that they should
- 1:19:21work out there fight like grown-ups and he starts like,
- 1:19:23unbuttoning his shirt and insinuate insinuates that he
- 1:19:27wants her. And she gets totally smooth
- 1:19:29spooked and she like Falls overboard at some point like he
- 1:19:35has to say we're good. She can't Swim.
- 1:19:37I'm like this is never ending. It's called someone likes comedy
- 1:19:42set piece after another of course he saves her life and it
- 1:19:48looks like she's drowning in a cup of water, though.
- 1:19:50Like the water level is not very deep.
- 1:19:54Well, there's two scenes of fighting over the bed because in
- 1:19:57the like yacht or whatever and then also the yes, guest houses
- 1:20:02and then the get right? And then in the actual house
- 1:20:05that Yeah, they're staying at a bun.
- 1:20:09I like this moment to is when after he saves her, he feels her
- 1:20:11forehead to gauge if you see if she's got a fever because she
- 1:20:14was sick before. So he knows that she's prone to
- 1:20:17these high fevers or whatever and she just got completely
- 1:20:21submerged. So I like it.
- 1:20:23He's caring for her in like his own way.
- 1:20:27Yeah, I also like the fight over the bed when the actual bed in
- 1:20:30there that it's that one is that was so funny, all-time all-time.
- 1:20:35Yeah, yeah, there's Rolling around like yanking covers and
- 1:20:39like, you know, like trying to like, hog the bed.
- 1:20:41Yeah. Because he says seductive
- 1:20:43seductively that they can share the bed and she's like no goes
- 1:20:47outside and she calls his, she gets mad and comes back inside,
- 1:20:51calls. His bluff isn't how much she
- 1:20:52knows like the first bug experience of the show.
- 1:20:56Yes. There was like bugs outside in
- 1:21:00Thailand in the summer and she comes back and she's like I'm
- 1:21:02not sleeping outside. So she tasted like, rips off.
- 1:21:06Her little tiny sweat shirt that she was wearing and she gets in
- 1:21:11the bed with him and she's like, haha, I'm not that easy to like,
- 1:21:16you know. Yeah, he starts.
- 1:21:19Then he gets mad and rips off their shirt, which I'm like,
- 1:21:21here we go, shirtless rain again.
- 1:21:24Yay! Yay.
- 1:21:26And he takes off his. I'm sorry.
- 1:21:28He takes up the most space on the bed.
- 1:21:30Yeah. And then he tries to like me,
- 1:21:32they're like size difference is so comfortable to.
- 1:21:34He's tiny and very tricky. He's like bus and he's like
- 1:21:38quite tall and it's just so comic comic all the watch them
- 1:21:41fighting and on the bed. Right?
- 1:21:43It's great. I really like, it's not like
- 1:21:45weirdly sexual or suggestive is. No, it's not.
- 1:21:48Yeah. It's like like, like our youth,
- 1:21:50your brother over like space on the bench.
- 1:21:53Exactly. That's exactly the dynamic that
- 1:21:55they have. Even though it turns romantic
- 1:21:58that the early episodes especially feel like they're
- 1:22:02just fighting siblings. Yeah.
- 1:22:05Or cousins or something more. Cousins or something.
- 1:22:07It's Yak, yeah, it's just comedic tension, not sexual
- 1:22:11tension. Even though rain is shirtless
- 1:22:13and she's got a tank top on that.
- 1:22:15I don't feel like anything lead because especially if you're in
- 1:22:182004, living in Korea and you love rain, or you at least are
- 1:22:21aware of how famous and popular. He is, and he's like out here
- 1:22:24getting shirtless, but then they're playing off this like
- 1:22:26Laurel and Hardy comedy thing like, during during all this, I
- 1:22:31think that was like really that was the part where I was like
- 1:22:33they're they're both acting pretty well here like in those,
- 1:22:35yeah. Mhm!
- 1:22:39He teaches her how to ride a bike.
- 1:22:41Oh my God. Which I just there's something
- 1:22:44about this. That really just scratches in
- 1:22:47it. It's funny when they're in
- 1:22:49Thailand because he's like why can't you get it?
- 1:22:51You're so dumb. Like, why can't you ride a bike?
- 1:22:55But then she starts wailing, like a kid when she falls off
- 1:22:59the bike and he goes, stop crying.
- 1:23:03I'll buy you ice cream and she's like, do you think I'm a child?
- 1:23:06To just, you can just placate me with ice cream cut to.
- 1:23:09She's happy as a clam eating her ice cream and they have this
- 1:23:14nice day out. On the town, where she's riding
- 1:23:19behind him on the bike. He's obviously riding the bike
- 1:23:23and they fall asleep on the Park Bench.
- 1:23:26Overlooking the ocean Sunset and I'm just like, this is it right
- 1:23:33here? Like, if you weren't invested
- 1:23:34before this, you you Should be invested by episode 3 with like
- 1:23:39then because it's not like enemies.
- 1:23:42Two lovers where they're just being like hateful to each other
- 1:23:45in a way that's so cynical. They are like obnoxious to each
- 1:23:48other and they're like bickering the whole time, but it's not.
- 1:23:51So like, I don't know. For me, I sort of don't like the
- 1:23:54lovers are enemies to lovers kinds of plots because it's, so
- 1:23:58it's just tired. And even in this show, I think
- 1:24:00there were moments where they got tired how much they were
- 1:24:01bickering until they were. But for these the First episodes
- 1:24:04kind of nice and they don't and it's also not like a Hi.
- 1:24:06I'm pining for you secretly and you don't know it.
- 1:24:08And now we're like, you know like little some one of them is
- 1:24:11looking longingly at the other is just like just a really good
- 1:24:14like it's genuine comfortable. Yeah they're getting more
- 1:24:17comfortable with each other and they're like genuinely like
- 1:24:20getting to know each other and like each other at the same pace
- 1:24:22which is kind of nice to watch. Yeah yeah.
- 1:24:26So from then on it just becomes basically record skip of a show
- 1:24:31because it'll be fight after fight after huge fight.
- 1:24:35He comes. I'm late, doesn't tell her he
- 1:24:38loses his wedding ring and she gets upset over and over again.
- 1:24:43And it's a just them making up with each other.
- 1:24:48It's the cycle, you know, fight the makeup, and then they fight
- 1:24:51and make up over and over again. Did you have certain moments
- 1:24:55that you really liked throughout the rest of their sort of like
- 1:24:59relationship where they get divorced?
- 1:25:02Look at her? But of course a glow up.
- 1:25:05We need to what we talked. That later oh yes.
- 1:25:09Yes we will glow up. Um but I have in my notes for
- 1:25:13young day who is played by rain, I wrote never not shouting an
- 1:25:17actor but has very little to do for some reason at an editing
- 1:25:20meeting today. Wrote squatting at her house.
- 1:25:23Essentially, he's a millionaire, you can literally live anywhere
- 1:25:25else. So a necessary.
- 1:25:27So that was like some of my hot takes where I was just getting
- 1:25:30pissed situation. So so let's talk about each each
- 1:25:34note. So the first one is Were not
- 1:25:36yelling. Yeah, rain.
- 1:25:39I mean I've Seen Rain and other things, obviously he can remote
- 1:25:43in different ways and not just holler the whole time.
- 1:25:47He is literally blowing out the mic.
- 1:25:51Every time he's yelling and the freaking Echo.
- 1:25:54That's in the house. Yeah.
- 1:25:58Unbelievable. How much he's yelling in the
- 1:26:01show insults, like like really Petty, but like so repetitive
- 1:26:04just honestly gets annoying where he's like calling her his
- 1:26:07little rice cooker. The me like kicking the pie.
- 1:26:10Yes, yes, like the chicken, the chicken or whatever.
- 1:26:13Like I don't know. Like she was getting so mad and
- 1:26:15I was like, on her side because I was like, this is annoying.
- 1:26:18She's like your brain doesn't work your brain.
- 1:26:20Like he is going to be calling her stupid.
- 1:26:22But like he kept saying, like something like you're messed up
- 1:26:24in the head. I like he kept saying like that
- 1:26:25and I was like this is so Tiresome right?
- 1:26:30Which is why I say it just becomes this repetitive thing
- 1:26:33over and over again and it just depends on the strength of the
- 1:26:36individual like thing that they're fighting about.
- 1:26:41Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 1:26:44I need to go back though it's and I don't know if this is the
- 1:26:46right time to get to hey Lon because this is the right time
- 1:26:49to get better. So let's talk about guys bitch.
- 1:26:51You're so she is the second second female lead.
- 1:26:55She is this prissy spoiled SS. And when she doesn't get
- 1:27:00attention, she is liable to just put herself in the hospital with
- 1:27:05some bogus psychosomatic illness.
- 1:27:06Yes, yes, she's physically making herself ill and its
- 1:27:11really annoying. That at first, she had these on,
- 1:27:14she could not detach herself from her feelings toward Min
- 1:27:18yolk and then lo and behold, he rejects her repeatedly and then
- 1:27:22she's all of a sudden like I like, you and Jay.
- 1:27:27Yeah, and I guess that's like the appearance of thicker
- 1:27:30afraid, her name in the show, her character, like, suddenly
- 1:27:33makes her piston-like pimp competitive.
- 1:27:36And, like, I need young day to, yes, like me again.
- 1:27:39And then she's like, upset, like both cases, shoes, weirdly
- 1:27:41obsessed. She's really fixing.
- 1:27:42I'm in hyuk that she's really obsessed with youngjae and I
- 1:27:45need like more backstory on this because like nothing they were
- 1:27:47saying, made sense. It's like, he's, like, I need
- 1:27:49rain is like, I needed to protect her and I used to buy
- 1:27:52her ice cream. And I'm like, what?
- 1:27:53Like they're talking. He's like, this is my first love
- 1:27:55but it's like Like stories from the second grade.
- 1:27:57It's not like junior high or High School were like a lot more
- 1:28:00like romantically feeling to be happening.
- 1:28:03So right. I was like I don't Justice.
- 1:28:05I don't get this. Like remember that time that you
- 1:28:10bought me ice cream after I got pushed to the ground by that kid
- 1:28:15in third grade. And I'm like, flirt grade.
- 1:28:18How do you live 25 years old? Why do you talk about third
- 1:28:21great for? It wasn't weird because it was,
- 1:28:24there's nothing. There's no stories from like it.
- 1:28:26I think an American stories, you hear like it sixth grade summer
- 1:28:29camp or like Junior High dance or like high school whatever.
- 1:28:32They're talking about literally Elementary School way, way way
- 1:28:36before puberty and and not to say those that's on a valuable
- 1:28:39time in people's lives but this like hold on each other that
- 1:28:42they have is so weird right based on nothing, the childhood
- 1:28:46and then he promised her to be with her somewhere to always be
- 1:28:50there for her because she used to get scared as a child
- 1:28:54sometime. Yeah.
- 1:28:55And he's like well, I'll protect you and it almost seemed like
- 1:28:58she was a substitute for his sister who passed away his
- 1:29:00little sister passed away from. Yeah.
- 1:29:01I'm assuming cancer because they mentioned she liked his new
- 1:29:04hair. And yeah, ill and he that's also
- 1:29:07why he's like a kind of in a fight with her dad.
- 1:29:08I think his own dad. I think because his dad was a
- 1:29:11doctor but couldn't see her. See ya Grudge there and so, as
- 1:29:14since he couldn't save his sister, he's trying to save Halo
- 1:29:16on and that's why he's stuck on her.
- 1:29:17But that was also like a weak sauce kind of story to me.
- 1:29:20Yes, yeah, that long when you have more like story, right?
- 1:29:26Better, reminisce about, right? And then same thing with minhyuk
- 1:29:30where he was, he was seemed like he was close with many have, but
- 1:29:32then, at the same time, it's like, I don't know.
- 1:29:33When men, whose birthday is and I'm like, what the fuck?
- 1:29:37What are you talking about? You don't know what menu, looks
- 1:29:40like a 30 year old man. How do you not know since
- 1:29:44childhood, if you've been friends minhyeok?
- 1:29:47Okay what has been hectic? Because he's like media Mogul,
- 1:29:50he's in the screen. Publishing, wait, one thing at a
- 1:29:55time. It's not because I'm not done
- 1:29:57with him on because I'm sorry I I'm not done with this girl.
- 1:30:02So hey one she just I mean at one point I think in episode 5
- 1:30:09she's having this pity party and it's in this case.
- 1:30:14She goes to like a bar or something, she's drinking her
- 1:30:16feelings and youngjae goes over to the console her and be with
- 1:30:21her. And just sort of listen to her
- 1:30:22issues because he's the sure The Crying Shoulder always.
- 1:30:26For her. And he and I mean, jung-jae ends
- 1:30:29up standing up, don't kill his character but that's a separate
- 1:30:33issue. And one says, I feel like dying
- 1:30:38Because our second male lead minhyuk said that she doesn't
- 1:30:43love him. She just wants to possess him.
- 1:30:48And I was like minhyeok Bravo because she if I mean the truth
- 1:30:53hurts. Yeah it's not it's absolutely
- 1:30:56true that her love was all about infatuation and possession and
- 1:31:00that's why when suddenly youngjae was unavailable to her
- 1:31:04because he got married. She was like, oh, she's been
- 1:31:07taken from me? Yeah, she was entitled to him.
- 1:31:11It's like her. But yeah, exactly.
- 1:31:13Yeah. Super toxic.
- 1:31:14Super rude. So I don't like him.
- 1:31:17One seemed like she liked him in heck.
- 1:31:19I don't know if this I was reading too much into this, but
- 1:31:21I still like minhyeok is like a status thing to like she didn't
- 1:31:23really even know him that well and was look at this like Dapper
- 1:31:27dashing like I speak three languages and I have like you
- 1:31:30know, the CEO all these companies or whatever he's doing
- 1:31:33and she just wanted like the idea of him and that's maybe why
- 1:31:36he was also kind of like no bro. Like it's not happening.
- 1:31:39Yeah. She's like Cloud chasing.
- 1:31:40Yeah. And then I she works in fashion
- 1:31:44has like zero clients other than than Reigns.
- 1:31:48I was like, what up, what a burn.
- 1:31:52Wow, what an observation? Yeah.
- 1:31:53Absolutely. She had no other celebrity
- 1:31:55clients except for youngjae and every time every single time
- 1:32:00that we see her working, she's just fiddling with the clothes
- 1:32:04on the rack. Like, what the hell was she even
- 1:32:06doing? What she just looking at the
- 1:32:07clothes, every time you see her at work, which is often they
- 1:32:11reuse this set a lot? Yeah, she's just looking at
- 1:32:14clothes, just browsing the racks.
- 1:32:17And then if someone walks up and is like, hey one, she's like,
- 1:32:20oh, hey, what are you doing here?
- 1:32:22Yeah, she also looks to them like, all right, there, youngjae
- 1:32:26youngjae. Okay, and like, who else comes
- 1:32:28here? Like I don't understand.
- 1:32:31Yeah. And then does she own this shop?
- 1:32:34Or is she an amazing stylist, a designer.
- 1:32:38But I think she's a style like the car designer.
- 1:32:40Like that's her story and her designs, but I was like, I don't
- 1:32:43know, I don't know, like that one sad rack and not much else.
- 1:32:47I need a couple of Because they show a few other rocks, but not
- 1:32:49that much, because not like this popping League or, yeah, I don't
- 1:32:53know what it is. Yeah, she lost a lot of points
- 1:32:56for me when she had the psychosomatic illness, and then
- 1:33:00she starts in on ji Ahn, sung-ki kills character, and she
- 1:33:07insinuates that she's out of his League.
- 1:33:09Yeah. But then she hides the wedding
- 1:33:12ring, don't forget that part. Yeah.
- 1:33:14Oh God. I'm so I said that wrong.
- 1:33:16She insinuates that he's out of her League.
- 1:33:19Yes. Yes.
- 1:33:20And that they've been friends a long time.
- 1:33:22That's not about to change because he's married now and she
- 1:33:25full-on steals the wedding ring that he leaves behind at her
- 1:33:31place of business and huge huge. Like I don't think she could
- 1:33:36come back from that. But yeah, well I I thought this
- 1:33:41for both ginni and Dong-wook Who are the Mary like unmarried
- 1:33:45common-law married like about to have a non-existent baby people.
- 1:33:47Yes, it could. Hey, I want that.
- 1:33:49They are all three of them are so crazy.
- 1:33:52Crazy lie. Brazen like you're going to
- 1:33:55steal your best friend's house and sell it to someone from cash
- 1:33:58like Fast Cash and you're like, unapologetically showing up
- 1:34:01every five seconds, that's those two.
- 1:34:02And then, hey, one trying to, like come at this, married
- 1:34:05woman, it doesn't matter how, or what, circumstances under, which
- 1:34:08they're married or like, what you think about whether or not
- 1:34:10she deserves him. Like it was just Brazen and
- 1:34:12that. Yeah, see of these people.
- 1:34:14Killing me. Yes, I agree completely but we
- 1:34:18got some good moments because of these people.
- 1:34:21And here's two of my favorite ones.
- 1:34:22So for the two best friends, who should be shot, they get into a
- 1:34:27huge fight with rain because they show up at the house
- 1:34:29looking for home girl, and she's not in, so they just stay until
- 1:34:35she comes and he's like, okay, do what you do as you please and
- 1:34:38goes upstairs, leaves them to their own devices on the first
- 1:34:42floor and they start eating up. The pantry like she's chopping
- 1:34:45up fruit as if it's her own house and he's trying on rains
- 1:34:49close. Yeah, they're opening rooms
- 1:34:51opening closets. Yes.
- 1:34:53It's going through. Its, it's Bedlam.
- 1:34:55So he catches them downstairs, doing all this nonsense in there
- 1:35:00try. He's got his reins clothes on
- 1:35:03and my God race. She's Like Rain celebrity
- 1:35:07clothes are a whole atrocious, the best in the tight teeth and
- 1:35:13stuff. I don't know.
- 1:35:14Anyway, so the he I think rain insults them.
- 1:35:19He's like, what are you doing? Starts yelling at them.
- 1:35:22Rightfully, so and he calls them beggar.
- 1:35:25What kind of Beggars are you guys?
- 1:35:28And the bitch starts throwing hands and was like, how dare you
- 1:35:35talk to my hug? Dear, you like, touch my husband
- 1:35:38and stuff like that. And starts hitting up on rain
- 1:35:42and hit, like she comes home home girl song, hye-kyo.
- 1:35:45Gets home at that, exact moment and the utter look of joy and
- 1:35:51relief on rains face when he pops up and sees her there and
- 1:35:57smile. It's It's the smile that lights
- 1:35:59up his face. I love that moment.
- 1:36:02I made a tick tock video about because I loved it so much.
- 1:36:06And she takes his side. She's like, why won't you get
- 1:36:10your hands off? My husband and walks up and gets
- 1:36:14in their faces. And what does she say?
- 1:36:17I think the pregnant lady tries to block her husband from so
- 1:36:21many kills character comes in, pretty, odd, and she goes, are
- 1:36:25you the pregnant friends? Like, are you take?
- 1:36:27I can't believe. Taking your husband's side and
- 1:36:28she's like, yeah. So what and they cut terrains
- 1:36:32face and rains like oh my God, she's like taking my job.
- 1:36:36I right. It's like such a cute moment.
- 1:36:40He's like, ordering her around the whole time.
- 1:36:42Be like, hugging me? This cook me that and clean this
- 1:36:44to clean that. And it's kind of, really
- 1:36:46annoying at that point. But then this is like her domain
- 1:36:49finally, where she has the upper hand and she has the power.
- 1:36:51These are her friends, she can get overly friendly and familiar
- 1:36:54with them because they are her literal friends and he's like,
- 1:36:57I'm just try not to hit a pregnant lady.
- 1:36:58You know. Like he's like right right.
- 1:37:02But it was I really loved that moment to because she gets a
- 1:37:04chance to like be in her own like in that moment and stand up
- 1:37:08for him and her and likes kind of solidify their this like
- 1:37:11weird relationship that they're building even though they're
- 1:37:14calling you like husband-wife. That's not their relationship.
- 1:37:16You know obviously. But yeah.
- 1:37:17How dare you touch my husband? Like I just appreciate that.
- 1:37:20I never took care about marriage until now like the like the like
- 1:37:25that is sanctity of marriage until now until now Right.
- 1:37:28Yeah. How dare you touch her husband
- 1:37:30Todd? Are you get your fucking hands
- 1:37:32off of me? And then she scratches his face
- 1:37:35to like he has a little a little cut in space teaches.
- 1:37:40Did you cut that? You cut this hell, you Stars
- 1:37:45face or something like that. Like she says, how dare you
- 1:37:48touch his face? Yeah, it's great.
- 1:37:51And then she puts ointment on his little, on the little cut on
- 1:37:54his face and he loves it. He's like, right now, I'm right
- 1:37:57here. Likely And that's not.
- 1:37:58What's up bickering? And it was a full house.
- 1:38:01My favorite room was their bathroom.
- 1:38:03Oh yeah. Cause that's where they're
- 1:38:07always like having these like moments of for they usually
- 1:38:10don't fight in the bathroom or if they do it's like very Petty
- 1:38:12like like I like you but I hate you kind of fighting the there's
- 1:38:16like this intimacy there that they there's no other way for
- 1:38:19them to express their feelings more than the bathroom because
- 1:38:21it's like, oh I don't know if they necessarily literally do
- 1:38:23this. But like let me hand you this
- 1:38:24tube of toothpaste or like whatever.
- 1:38:26Like this is your child is my towel.
- 1:38:27That kind of stuff. So I really liked their moments
- 1:38:30in the bathroom, which was it will be early pivotal place,
- 1:38:35right? Yeah.
- 1:38:36And the kitchen to like the kitchen, the dining table, I
- 1:38:39guess. Yeah.
- 1:38:40Where the two big places? Because obviously, when she
- 1:38:43whenever she threatens to move out, or she believes for the
- 1:38:46night or she's out or something, he will look at her toothbrush
- 1:38:50and he's like, oh, I miss her, like he.
- 1:38:53Yeah, the bathroom is a good place and so is the dining room
- 1:38:56table. I love the moment with with what
- 1:39:02after he realizes that his ring is missing and he confesses that
- 1:39:05he lost his wedding ring to her. She, he feels extremely guilty
- 1:39:10and even though he's sort of like yelling still and he's
- 1:39:13like, don't get on my case. Like if I forgave you for losing
- 1:39:16that recorder, that I bought you for your birthday, you can
- 1:39:20forgive me for doing this. This thing to, for losing my
- 1:39:23wedding ring, and I'll buy another one.
- 1:39:25Don't worry, it's coming, it's on the way.
- 1:39:28She draws on a wedding ring on his little hands.
- 1:39:33Oh my God. I was like mad at myself for
- 1:39:35liking that so much. I was like, they got me, they
- 1:39:38got so good. They got me, I love that scene.
- 1:39:43It's so cheesy, but I love it and the way she backs into it,
- 1:39:47she's like, you know, I found the ring today, I just found it
- 1:39:51today and he's like, oh my God, where was it?
- 1:39:54And she goes, give me your hand and she starts drawing on the
- 1:39:58Ring and he's like, oh like what are you doing?
- 1:40:00It's so good. It's so childish.
- 1:40:03And yes, the way they like go about it and it's sort of
- 1:40:07refreshing because sometimes what happens is is you just
- 1:40:10heard he ducked event. Yeah, it's yeah, it's not that
- 1:40:14but it's still so good to not have that for once.
- 1:40:16I know it's almost I don't know, this is a very rated PG even if
- 1:40:24that rated G romance and I'm Eating it up, it's so adorable.
- 1:40:29And their moments are really pure when they're good, it's
- 1:40:33good. And when it's bad, it's really
- 1:40:35annoying. But you know they're just a
- 1:40:38couple of kids. I kept saying that in my head
- 1:40:41when I was watching was there just a couple of kids like
- 1:40:44they're they don't know what they're doing.
- 1:40:45They're in the early 20s they don't give it.
- 1:40:48They don't know how to love somebody.
- 1:40:50They don't know how to express their feelings.
- 1:40:52And that's the major thing about the show is that if you even if
- 1:40:58If you're getting frustrated that they can't just talk to
- 1:41:00each other, they have to have their own like immature,
- 1:41:04complexes that prevent them from doing that, it's weird to that.
- 1:41:09They both kind of understand each other when they pick up on
- 1:41:11these signals, when he's like, for now and talk to me by
- 1:41:14writing a note on the fridge or whichever one, you know, and
- 1:41:17there they connected or like when someone comes home, late
- 1:41:19and I go where you were, you waiting for me?
- 1:41:21Are you pissed off right now? And like you know they can tell
- 1:41:24like something up, but then like especially rains character
- 1:41:27youngjae Doesn't know his own mind.
- 1:41:29He's like so torn between Halen and daeun but then she's like a
- 1:41:33lot less confused about it. And yeah, I thought that was
- 1:41:36like, very like, like, Angry Young Man of them, you know,
- 1:41:39like, he doesn't know. Like, he's so confused.
- 1:41:41These he can't emotes and all this other stuff, he's
- 1:41:43emotionally mature is generally immature, but I just liked the
- 1:41:47way. They portray the communication,
- 1:41:49the fact that you could tell the, she's picking up, what he's
- 1:41:51putting down, basically. And though, he doesn't even know
- 1:41:52what he's putting down, right? It was great, right?
- 1:41:56I like that scene where they go visit Hawaii.
- 1:41:58One in the hospital because he's running sprinting to her
- 1:42:02bedside. And she, he doesn't need to say
- 1:42:06a word. She knows just by looking at his
- 1:42:09reaction, to the news that she's in the hospital, and seeing him
- 1:42:15Sidle up to her at the hospital. And just so concerned over her
- 1:42:18well-being, just completely cut up about heroin, she's like, oh,
- 1:42:24he likes her. You know, and I'll let me wait
- 1:42:29to go in the room. Let me just make myself scarce
- 1:42:32because this is who he really wants.
- 1:42:34And, no, words are said, right? Nothing is in the, this is all
- 1:42:41acting, right? This is not, you know, dialogue,
- 1:42:45right? And this is why it kind of what
- 1:42:47I was doing to before we're like, they didn't need to rely
- 1:42:48on flashy sets or a lot of different like on location
- 1:42:52shoots to convey a bunch of like, get your emotions turned
- 1:42:55up. It was like Kind of cerebral.
- 1:42:57You're like in their minds. Like there there's a lot of
- 1:42:59things were there alone sitting in that big empty house.
- 1:43:01Having like yeah, thoughts about each other and like, you know,
- 1:43:04they show a little bit of like, you know she's thinking of him
- 1:43:06or he's going to her like it's more even in their face when
- 1:43:08they fly in a pan back to their faces.
- 1:43:10And that moment just sitting there alone in the house, you
- 1:43:12can see it in their face. So I think both of them did a
- 1:43:15great job and they the directors and stuff.
- 1:43:17Did a great job of making that come through.
- 1:43:19Yeah. Did you like the movie theater
- 1:43:21date? That happened early on?
- 1:43:23So here's the thing I thought, Thought it was cute because he
- 1:43:28had to come in after the movie started left before the movie
- 1:43:31ended, this whole hullabaloo because he's a celebrity.
- 1:43:33But the clip the clip that was shown of what they were, what I
- 1:43:37was like, it's been Helsing with first of all, I think it was a
- 1:43:46trailer from for Van Helsing. Okay.
- 1:43:49And then when the movie starts going and Rain sits down, the
- 1:43:53music is clearly Spider-Man. Like the Sam Raimi Spider-Man.
- 1:44:01And I was like, holy shit. That's Danny.
- 1:44:04Elfman score from Spider-Man. So it, like threw me for a loop.
- 1:44:09Because I could not get into the scene without thinking Tobey
- 1:44:13Maguire's also in the room with it.
- 1:44:15Exactly. Exactly.
- 1:44:18Imagine. Oh my God.
- 1:44:23Yeah. Did you have other moments that
- 1:44:25you really liked before we kind of get to the divorce?
- 1:44:29Yes, I really liked. I know, we're kind of tabling
- 1:44:32minhyeok a little bit, but I just liked.
- 1:44:34How oh, yes, no, let's talk about him.
- 1:44:36I'm sorry. Yes, I forgot to go back to him.
- 1:44:38Sure. Sure, I know they were like, oh,
- 1:44:41he's a player. He said this, he said that, but
- 1:44:43like he was soda me and maybe I'm being fooled, but genuine
- 1:44:47with his affection for because I think it was mostly affection,
- 1:44:51really are like he found her endearing and it was last like,
- 1:44:53something weird or creepy. But G on that when she was like,
- 1:44:57she's like I'll buy you dinner. I'll buy you spaghetti.
- 1:45:00Like okay. Sure.
- 1:45:01You like it was like, are you serious?
- 1:45:03Like he's like having all these important fancy meetings and you
- 1:45:06know, meetings of Shanghai and meetings and wherever and doing
- 1:45:09Going to America and she's like, I'm gonna treat you at this.
- 1:45:12Like all you can eat spaghetti place.
- 1:45:14The spaghetti joint. He's like cool.
- 1:45:15Sounds good. And he like, lets her do it.
- 1:45:18He just like, lets her like, be who she is, and how she is,
- 1:45:21which is such a nice change. From youngjae it constantly
- 1:45:25berating her. Like why did you cook this like
- 1:45:26this? And why did you do this like
- 1:45:27this? And I need you home by this time
- 1:45:29I hurry up because of my term. You're like yeah yeah I really
- 1:45:32it was a bad case of like second lead syndrome like you should
- 1:45:35have gone with him sometimes with sometimes because up for
- 1:45:38this This is something that I don't know how the show managed
- 1:45:41to do. Maybe it's just the power of
- 1:45:43rain in this role, but for such a bossy, Road screaming match,
- 1:45:51kind of male lead. I never wanted her to go with
- 1:45:55men, yoke. I was always like, no, it has to
- 1:45:59be rain. I know he's an emotionally
- 1:46:01stunted and can't express himself at all and he's
- 1:46:05constantly making the wrong decision coming home late,
- 1:46:08standing her up. And God knows what else.
- 1:46:10And It despite all this I'm like it's him or nobody because like
- 1:46:17there's these are the only one who's a match for him, you know?
- 1:46:20Like there's no one else like on the planet.
- 1:46:22Who could be a match for youngjae's character?
- 1:46:25Right. Because lot, but logically
- 1:46:27minhyeok is such a great option. Oh, yeah.
- 1:46:31What I, okay. So, this away my prom with
- 1:46:32minhyeok was similar to like the lack of Baxter for him on which
- 1:46:36is like, why is he following this girl to Spaghetti Factory?
- 1:46:38Like go get another like millions of other girls that you
- 1:46:41can hang out with? She is nice, it's so bright and
- 1:46:44she's a bad writer. He craps her into a good writer.
- 1:46:48He's constantly critiquing her work and making her think about
- 1:46:53her her writing and the craft of doing a screenplay and all that
- 1:46:57crap. So he's taking mentoring her and
- 1:47:02she's so criminally unsophisticated and that's okay
- 1:47:06I guess but like then just be platonic I don't know this like
- 1:47:08trying to like win her over and like get her to see him.
- 1:47:12The way she could tell she was seeing Hong Kong Jay.
- 1:47:14Yeah, get it. I was like, why are you doing
- 1:47:16that? And let's choose a body.
- 1:47:18She seems so young compared to him, too.
- 1:47:22Yeah. Like unworldly young immature.
- 1:47:24All these things and he knows he's like, got really Savvy.
- 1:47:28I know I was trying to also decide if I thought he was a
- 1:47:30player or not even though we never really see him like dating
- 1:47:34there was at. Okay, so there was only one
- 1:47:36scene where he was with, hey, one in a bar and he goes that
- 1:47:41you see that girl over there, she She basically said she wants
- 1:47:44me and like, gets up and lie. Like goes to talk to this other
- 1:47:47girl at the bar and leaves. Hey, one hanging, and that was
- 1:47:51the only indication that maybe he slept around, maybe he had
- 1:47:54multiple women or something, but when he was with Hunty and she
- 1:47:59was completely sincere, and I love the birthday date that he
- 1:48:03goes on with her, or he tells her, that he does have feelings
- 1:48:07for her and that most girls like him, which I thought was a
- 1:48:11little funky. Him to say he was like, most
- 1:48:13girls really liked me. And he says, please like me,
- 1:48:16too. I'm thinking I'm thinking of how
- 1:48:20to take you away from youngjae. And he tells her out, right?
- 1:48:24Like, I'm looking to steal you away from youngjae.
- 1:48:26I know that he likes. Hey Juan, I know there's issues.
- 1:48:29I know the Contract Marriage situation, like the berating
- 1:48:33constant Brooke. She he was mistreating her
- 1:48:35young. Yeah.
- 1:48:37So Min hyuk was, like, you deserve better.
- 1:48:39I could. Yeah, you could be better off
- 1:48:41with me. It said, Surah.
- 1:48:42So yeah, and he says likes him a lot, but I know there's
- 1:48:48something about it that didn't sit right with me.
- 1:48:51And there's something about rain that I was like, that's the one,
- 1:48:53that's the one that she did. So, I don't know what it is.
- 1:48:56It's really bizarre. It is because it's bizarre and I
- 1:48:59wonder why she like charged him in yet because I can kind of see
- 1:49:01how she Charmed rains character youngjae because John Jay was
- 1:49:05used to like everyone just like falling all over themselves for
- 1:49:07him. But many of them eniac a little
- 1:49:09bit of that to mean you is like too cool for all that so that
- 1:49:12when he still pursued her after a while, I was like I don't
- 1:49:15understand why your soul I It is, is like we said before rain
- 1:49:19and some guy kills character, they're just a couple of kids.
- 1:49:23And maybe it's the fact that it's feels like, you know, this
- 1:49:27is a side note but my parents got married when they were real
- 1:49:29young, 20 years old, right? This is unheard of today, like
- 1:49:33people get married when they're older today, just that's the
- 1:49:36trend and they have these crazy stories of them being young and
- 1:49:41married. And I'm like, y'all were just
- 1:49:43stupid together and like, growing up together.
- 1:49:47And going to college together. And it was very like their
- 1:49:50stories felt in a real way, like the vibe of Han Jian and
- 1:49:57youngjae together where they're just in this hot, they're
- 1:49:59playing house with that without the sex part.
- 1:50:03Like they're just like exact you digging around together all day
- 1:50:06long and fighting and learning how to make up with each other.
- 1:50:09He learns that she likes flowers.
- 1:50:11So he gets her flowers and, you know, it's very much a learning
- 1:50:15to be together. Her story for them and growing
- 1:50:19together and growing together and minhyeok is a straight
- 1:50:23meant, like a straight-up. A man, he's already done
- 1:50:26cooking. He's don't write, he's an adult.
- 1:50:28He's not a kid by any stretch, you know, so maybe that's right.
- 1:50:33Sure. Yeah and it just doesn't click,
- 1:50:35it's even more. Why I'm like, why are you so hot
- 1:50:38stock on her because I feel like that plot line of him trying to
- 1:50:41pursue her went a little too long because at first it made
- 1:50:43sense. She's cute.
- 1:50:44She's endearing. He's like got this like kind of
- 1:50:46vibes. With her and terms like wanting
- 1:50:48to help her improve her writing seeing potential in her, but
- 1:50:50then he just kept doing it for like a little too long for me
- 1:50:53was like, why are you still like hanging around sniffing around
- 1:50:55her? Let it go.
- 1:50:57Let it go. Yeah, I think it's towards the
- 1:51:01end of the show that we see some growth with rains character.
- 1:51:07And I love this conversation that they have at the dinner
- 1:51:09table in episode 11, where now we have minhyeok like trying
- 1:51:13really hard to win over hon Jian.
- 1:51:16And Reigns character says, now that I think about it.
- 1:51:19I don't think I've ever bought you a decent meal.
- 1:51:21I always stood you up Gian if you want to be with Min hyuk,
- 1:51:25you should date him. You don't have to ask me since
- 1:51:27the contract doesn't dictate, how you should feel our marriage
- 1:51:30is just business but your heart isn't your heart belongs to you.
- 1:51:36Who knew that youngjae was so woke.
- 1:51:38So yeah. Feminist is says, he's like, you
- 1:51:43know, I I'm post pretty shitty to you.
- 1:51:47Yeah. And many oak is over here.
- 1:51:48Buying you luxury meals, and taking you out and the types of
- 1:51:53dates that you like to go on or just like window shopping and
- 1:51:57out in the town and stuff. And he does that with you, he
- 1:52:00gives you what you want. He's there for you and supports
- 1:52:04why I liked minhyeok so much like she's like Like I just
- 1:52:06don't eat Street dog bulky. And look at through like she
- 1:52:08window shop and he's like cool. Yeah.
- 1:52:10And he liked so much of their marriage is youngjae just being
- 1:52:14pissed off at her for something or another and it is so
- 1:52:17emotionally. It's such an emotional like
- 1:52:19lightbulb moment for him when he's like, oh yeah, you're like
- 1:52:22a person with feelings and interesting, right?
- 1:52:25For me to order around, yeah, it's it's nice to see that
- 1:52:30growth and for him to try and be the bigger person and say.
- 1:52:36I have no claim to you, you know, which is huge.
- 1:52:41As I mean, even if this was written today, I'd be like shook
- 1:52:44about this. What I'm saying that I was kind
- 1:52:45of joking about him being so like you know, emotionally woke
- 1:52:48early emotionally in touch with like I mean I'm kidding but like
- 1:52:52you know what I mean? Like he's he's got this
- 1:52:53awareness that even in today's scripts is what you want us here
- 1:52:56in Chase, real life, hmm. You know, communication with
- 1:52:58people, you want to see them realize this, that, that your I
- 1:53:03am not in charge of you, you're not in control of your feelings.
- 1:53:06And that's not what this is. So you're entitled to your
- 1:53:08feelings, and you're entitled to your real, whatever your real
- 1:53:11heart is, right, right? So things spiral out of control,
- 1:53:16there's some crazy rumors about Jian being a gold digger,
- 1:53:20basically, and the family finds out about the contract marriage,
- 1:53:25and this is episode 14. Like I'm skipping way ahead.
- 1:53:28Okay, at this point had one has like, relinquished your claim
- 1:53:34on? Jane's character because she
- 1:53:37realizes that he has deep feelings for hundun and hygiene
- 1:53:43was like going to go to the Venice film festival or
- 1:53:46something with many oak and she turns right around.
- 1:53:48She's like I can't go imagine that.
- 1:53:51That would have been amazing. Yeah I would have had been in
- 1:53:54today's script she would have gone and they would have been at
- 1:53:57the Venice Film Festival, you know, they would have gone done
- 1:54:00the overseas shoot and everything but so she comes back
- 1:54:05home and there's this This whole misunderstanding because rains
- 1:54:09character sees them outside at the house not at the Venice Film
- 1:54:13Festival. He comes back to the house drunk
- 1:54:16and sees them together and he's like oh she loves him or they're
- 1:54:19there they have a relationship going.
- 1:54:22Yeah I thought the most heartbreaking part of them
- 1:54:25breaking up and pause and getting the whole divorce.
- 1:54:28Was her breakup with the family, her in-laws 100%.
- 1:54:33Oh my God, that was heart wrenching.
- 1:54:36Oh my God tattoo. Yeah, go ahead.
- 1:54:40Sorry to interrupt you, is that I am reading this one book about
- 1:54:43Korean women's rights movements and the Gold Digger part.
- 1:54:46And I don't remember what the word they used in Korean, but
- 1:54:49apparently, and I'm sure more so 20 years ago, but being a gold
- 1:54:53digger being pursued gold digger.
- 1:54:54As bad as it is in. America seems like a hundred
- 1:54:57times worse, maybe in Korea. And again, I'm not a creative
- 1:54:59person. So take it with a grain of salt
- 1:55:00and I read one book. So I'm not trying to say this is
- 1:55:03exactly true, but it's actually like kind of Of social, I don't
- 1:55:07want to use the word suicide but I don't know what other word to
- 1:55:09use for its to like, you know, for that kind of thing to come
- 1:55:12out that you're in a contract marriage with a celebrity and
- 1:55:15being perceived as a gold digger, it's extremely damaging
- 1:55:18to women's reputations in Korea or and again like 20 years ago
- 1:55:21more. So so that the family thinking
- 1:55:25that of her because I just read that when I got to that part I
- 1:55:28was like, oh no, this is like more even more worse than maybe
- 1:55:31we're perceiving it as westerners.
- 1:55:33So that was like, kind of heavy Said it was, it was and she kept
- 1:55:39trying to play it off like it doesn't matter what people think
- 1:55:42of me, I know the truth, but it was extremely stressful and
- 1:55:46heartbreaking for her. Especially when I mean the
- 1:55:49conversation that she has with his dad was the worst to me,
- 1:55:54because the dad says, I don't think it's appropriate for you
- 1:55:57for you to call me father anymore.
- 1:56:00And you were never really my daughter-in-law and I hope we
- 1:56:04never see you again. These are really and after him
- 1:56:08walking her down, the aisle and being so sweet to her and
- 1:56:11supportive of her in the family. Even in his Stern way.
- 1:56:15I was like, I was playing the ghost that play.
- 1:56:18I was honestly really cut up during this part where she
- 1:56:24loses. This father figure this this
- 1:56:27dude who was a stand-in and the whole going over to the
- 1:56:31grandmother's house in her. The grandmother doesn't even
- 1:56:34want to see her she's like Game for forgiveness.
- 1:56:37And oh my God, she's not giving it to her.
- 1:56:40I was honestly so difficult to watch.
- 1:56:43She was trying so hard and I think too, like for her in the
- 1:56:46beginning when she's like it's fine to rains character youngjae
- 1:56:49that it's fine. If they're saying that people
- 1:56:51can talk and that also, again, I connected to her kind of like,
- 1:56:55you know, I have no lineage, it's just, you know, I'm putting
- 1:56:58air quotes, I have no like history.
- 1:57:00Anyway, no reputation. Anyway, I'm already kind of seen
- 1:57:02as like an outcast because I'm an orphan potentially, like, I
- 1:57:05think She was like, whatever. I don't have any reputation to
- 1:57:08go off of anyway, which is a matter of people think I'm this
- 1:57:10like hateful, gold digger, but like you said it like wasn't
- 1:57:13something. She could like, sustained
- 1:57:14emotionally because it was taking its toll, especially,
- 1:57:17when her own in-laws, saw her that way, right?
- 1:57:21Right. And there's a, I think an
- 1:57:23episode 14. She gets home late and rain has
- 1:57:26been waiting for her. He's super jealous and throws.
- 1:57:29The whole minhyuk thing back in her face, which again, I think
- 1:57:33of a flip-flop back and forth over the same tried.
- 1:57:36And true fights. But anyway, he starts a fight
- 1:57:39and she's already just been through the wringer because of
- 1:57:44all of these rumors and because of his sort of constant abuse.
- 1:57:48And she says, do you even know what it means to protect
- 1:57:50someone? Is buying me ice cream when I
- 1:57:53cry protecting me. You don't even know anything.
- 1:57:57You know, nothing. You don't know how to like,
- 1:58:00someone don't know how to express it and you don't know
- 1:58:02what it means to protect someone.
- 1:58:06He's it felt like she was saying, he never fights for her,
- 1:58:09you know, real sense. And she was finally like it got
- 1:58:12to her by then she's like I can't deal with this anymore,
- 1:58:15right? So if he wants to be Petty,
- 1:58:16Batman, hockey can, but she was like, over it at that point,
- 1:58:19she's like, yeah. Oh my God, it was brutal.
- 1:58:23And then the frickin press conference to announce the
- 1:58:25divorce, which he says, oh, really great line in this thing.
- 1:58:29Or he said he's referring to her.
- 1:58:31Everyone thinks he's referring to some other woman but he says,
- 1:58:34she's just Terry and kind, but she's more special and precious
- 1:58:37to me than anyone else in the world.
- 1:58:42And he announces the divorce, but it's a divorce to protect
- 1:58:46her because of these like her. Yes, yeah.
- 1:58:50The media and free her because she feels, you know, he thinks
- 1:58:54that she likes minhyuk and she's trapped in this contract
- 1:58:56marriage and it's just sort of an effort to quell.
- 1:59:00All of that. All that noise, which makes me
- 1:59:03even more meaningful. Yeah.
- 1:59:05But at the same time, it's like he loved her.
- 1:59:07She loved him and they still couldn't work it out while they
- 1:59:10were still married. So, It's it's a little while but
- 1:59:14yeah, it's very emotional episode 15.
- 1:59:17We find out he's been in a monastery for months, get the
- 1:59:22fuck out. Fuck outta here with that shit.
- 1:59:26Which opening me how many months did you say?
- 1:59:27Because I couldn't figure out how long a mic what time had
- 1:59:30passed since they're divorced. So I think it only been a few
- 1:59:33months. I because like, her hair friend,
- 1:59:37the friend is still supposedly pregnant.
- 1:59:40True. True.
- 1:59:40True. Okay.
- 1:59:42So, even though the friend is not pregnant, she didn't even
- 1:59:44make an effort to look like she was pregnant, she is still
- 1:59:47within the nine months of pregnancy.
- 1:59:51I think she found out, she got pregnant like the day.
- 1:59:53It happened, the way that this pregnancy right week of week of.
- 2:00:03Yeah. No.
- 2:00:05But yeah, her hair was so much longer by.
- 2:00:07Yeah. And she's like, her like glow up
- 2:00:09that we reference little bit before the glut she look.
- 2:00:12Crash in the house, because she can do what she wants now,
- 2:00:14because he's not there and like yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:00:17She has the pigsty is back in the house, but she's a full-time
- 2:00:21writer. A serious screenplay doing.
- 2:00:26I guess her screenplay is seriously.
- 2:00:27Going to be made into a movie and they're shopping around
- 2:00:31looking for actors and stuff. So she's Bonafide.
- 2:00:35Like she's legitimate. She doesn't need his money.
- 2:00:38She doesn't need his clout. She obviously doesn't need The
- 2:00:42pettiness and him ordering her around.
- 2:00:44She doesn't need a maid or anybody to clean up after her.
- 2:00:47She doesn't care and the fashion glow up.
- 2:00:51I don't know why she just looks better after the divorce.
- 2:00:53I gosh. So they made her look.
- 2:00:55I feel like as she is. So beautiful song Hit.
- 2:00:57Kill is just a yes lady and I like you could find at 23.
- 2:01:02I mean she's just you know. Yeah I'm unblemished that
- 2:01:06there's nothing to like the cheese.
- 2:01:08Yeah you know but the her prime so so kindergarten Like tacky
- 2:01:12and to fit her character. Yeah.
- 2:01:14Earlier episodes. And then we get to this episode
- 2:01:16and she's just like, you know Herbal Essences or like so I'm
- 2:01:19like, oh my God. Like maybe she just looks weird.
- 2:01:22Yeah, she just looks more sophisticated.
- 2:01:24More elegant will put together. Yeah.
- 2:01:27Yeah, her style is just you better make up.
- 2:01:30Yeah, her style has just metamorphic it.
- 2:01:34Why that happens like, oh, true other than like, the
- 2:01:38post-breakup glow up is his real identity.
- 2:01:42It's all like I'm trying to upset, right?
- 2:01:44Right. Right.
- 2:01:48And then he ends up rushing back because don't woke that friend
- 2:01:53that swindled her says that. She's sick hanji and is sick.
- 2:01:57And he's like, what if he comes back to the house, he did.
- 2:02:01I like how you didn't even care of those grandmas.
- 2:02:02Like he's like she got sick all the time and he's like, okay
- 2:02:04well hunch, he's like he's like wait what?
- 2:02:06I gotta go. You're absolutely right because
- 2:02:12Don't look, just like your mom. I've your grandmother's in the
- 2:02:14hospital in the hospital and he's like, yeah, she's old, and
- 2:02:18it happens, you know, He's like thoughts and prayers anyway, so
- 2:02:25Rose praise. Yeah, but there is a huge
- 2:02:30emphasis in the final Apple couple of episodes on asking the
- 2:02:35dad, his dad for forgiveness, asking the family for
- 2:02:39forgiveness, which I still find so odd.
- 2:02:43This doesn't necessarily drive with me and maybe it has to do
- 2:02:46with that culture. Bit that we're getting in mass
- 2:02:50in this show. But the filial piety, I mean
- 2:02:53that honestly threw me for a loop in the final couple of
- 2:02:56episodes. We're doing is like you can stay
- 2:02:59in this house if you apologize to your dad so that I can
- 2:03:02basically get back in their good graces.
- 2:03:05Yeah, I know there's some cultures were like groveling as
- 2:03:07like a very real thing. You have to do.
- 2:03:09I don't know if Korean culture is or was one of them or just in
- 2:03:12their family. That's like something that was
- 2:03:14expected, I don't know. It was weird, but there was that
- 2:03:17big emphasis like his to make this big formal apology and
- 2:03:20request or beg for forgiveness. Yes, on both of their behalf,
- 2:03:24right? So like it would also kind of
- 2:03:25absolve Jian if he did this. Hmm.
- 2:03:29So I thought that was interesting.
- 2:03:30What did you think of his proposal?
- 2:03:33I don't even remember it. Oh, my God.
- 2:03:36So he buys a ring thinking that she doesn't have her wedding
- 2:03:40ring from their contract marriage, and he presents it to
- 2:03:43her on the porch of the hot, what the back porch of the
- 2:03:46house, and I thought it was really cute.
- 2:03:50He basically says that it's true.
- 2:03:52He doesn't know how to love her or make her happy, but that he's
- 2:03:56willing to learn. If she'll teach him and he'll do
- 2:03:59whatever she wants, if she wants him to sing, he'll sing it.
- 2:04:02She wants him to dance, he'll dance, whatever she wants.
- 2:04:05And you know he tops it off with.
- 2:04:07Will you marry me? And she's like, uh, hmm.
- 2:04:10Yeah, it's coming back to me now.
- 2:04:13Yeah, action is what brought me back because I was like, kind of
- 2:04:16half listening to him because I also was like, not sure.
- 2:04:18Like I was like, I don't know why he's doing this, right?
- 2:04:24Kind of like hot and colds that I was like, okay, sure he's
- 2:04:26proposing. Uh-huh.
- 2:04:28Reaction of like, what are you talking about?
- 2:04:30It's been like six, not even six months, as we got divorced.
- 2:04:32Like I don't how it what it like, think this through buddy,
- 2:04:34like I don't know, it was, it was interesting.
- 2:04:37I think he was being sincere but he's still, it just goes back to
- 2:04:39his immaturity, I think tank, for me at least that he has.
- 2:04:43Still no concept of like, how to like be a person yet.
- 2:04:46He's still working that out friends, right?
- 2:04:48And it's the totally wrong timing.
- 2:04:51Yes, he does, he's just off. Yeah, he's just out of sync, a
- 2:04:55mature reaction to, like, try and resolve an issue.
- 2:04:58And it's like, okay, you thought, you thought this
- 2:05:00through? But you did not think it through
- 2:05:02correctly. So, but in the next episode, the
- 2:05:05last episode, she rejects his proposal.
- 2:05:08She's like, yeah, but he's like messes up her script or
- 2:05:12something. The computer doesn't save it.
- 2:05:14And her work is lost. And then on top of that, she's
- 2:05:18like what did you do? No, we did not have the And plus
- 2:05:220, when she delivers, one of the scripts to minhyuk, she gives
- 2:05:26him a floppy disk. Oh, right.
- 2:05:30And I was like, oh, like my heart, my heart, the floppy
- 2:05:35disk, that's like a sign, I know, I know.
- 2:05:40But anyway, she and then he says that she has no Talent when she
- 2:05:43starts. Like what did you do?
- 2:05:44To my computer? I can't find my work.
- 2:05:45It's all gone. And she's upset and he says,
- 2:05:48well, you don't even have any Talent anyways, and she's Well
- 2:05:51you know what? We're not getting married, but
- 2:05:54I'm saying no to your proposal and it's so good.
- 2:05:59I just love it because of course, she's gonna say no.
- 2:06:03Like, he's not at this point. What?
- 2:06:06What has changed right? Right, right.
- 2:06:10Yeah, it's just sort of this guy who thinks he can resolve things
- 2:06:13very like, neatly and tightly and he really glosses over a lot
- 2:06:16of nuance and like, you know, other like Logistics of things
- 2:06:20because maybe his life Was relatively easy as an as an idol
- 2:06:23or celebrity where people just hand things to or like on a
- 2:06:26plate and like they figure stuff out for you and you just have to
- 2:06:28go and do whatever they said for you to do.
- 2:06:31So he's trying to operate in this like way that makes sense
- 2:06:34to him, but it's like not he's not quite there and also I feel
- 2:06:38like rain rains dad in the show is very serious.
- 2:06:43I can't imagine that man has a romantic bone in his body.
- 2:06:46So I am sure that when he grew up, he didn't see a lot of
- 2:06:51Really good communication between his parents.
- 2:06:55So he's really just flying in the dark flying solo.
- 2:06:58Just trying to figure it out and tour.
- 2:07:02Little rain for a little rain. Can't get it together.
- 2:07:05They have the magic land date which felt a lot like Boys Over
- 2:07:09Flowers because he goes and stands on the ice rink for
- 2:07:14hours, waiting for her and she shows up late.
- 2:07:17It's very much like the Namsan Tower date from Boys Over
- 2:07:20Flowers. Yeah, and I like to see of him
- 2:07:24practicing, what he's going to say, yeah.
- 2:07:27Where he's like, yeah, that's not good.
- 2:07:29And he's like, he's really an effort.
- 2:07:31He's trying. Yes.
- 2:07:32He's like lacking and he's trying to achieve like maturity
- 2:07:36and adulthood and like this, like these trying to get to her
- 2:07:39level or like any level, that's not where he was, but it's cute
- 2:07:44to watch him kind of fall. Shut up.
- 2:07:45And then her still be like, bro, like what the heck?
- 2:07:51Yeah, then they have the ice skating day 2.0.
- 2:07:54And she finally shows up because they had an ice-skating moment
- 2:07:57earlier in the show and he's just falling all over the place.
- 2:08:00I want to reiterate something that I don't think there was any
- 2:08:03stunt doubles or stunt, oh my God, this production shirt for
- 2:08:08this because they were they were throwing themselves over a hard
- 2:08:15surface of presumably ice for this show for television and And
- 2:08:21it looked real and brain like he's very bright, right?
- 2:08:25Like I imagined something like like, you know, Park Soju.
- 2:08:28Now, trying to like fling himself, although they be like,
- 2:08:30no, no, like can't. Yeah, sure.
- 2:08:32You we need to have like safety stuff in place and they would
- 2:08:35just do not seem like any that was going on at everland over
- 2:08:38magic land on everything. Yeah, magical.
- 2:08:40And I don't know what the hell they were thinking, both of them
- 2:08:43were. Just honestly, I'm hesitant to
- 2:08:46fall once ice skating. They were, I don't know how many
- 2:08:50takes they did. They were Constantly looking
- 2:08:53fragile upon that did not seem particularly cold.
- 2:08:57I was like, sure. I don't think it was.
- 2:08:59No, I don't. I think it was like a chilled
- 2:09:02surface, not necessarily ice. Okay.
- 2:09:07But I don't know what else to call it other than ice skating
- 2:09:09because they were wearing ice skates.
- 2:09:11Yeah. They were.
- 2:09:13So, I don't know if it was just like, frozen concrete or
- 2:09:16something that they were even worse in a way.
- 2:09:18I feel like I don't, it was it look dangerous, like, What they
- 2:09:21were doing. So anyway, he finally confesses,
- 2:09:25I love you and the Zamboni driver kicks up some noise and
- 2:09:29drowns him out. Which again very Boys Over
- 2:09:32Flowers, which came a few years later.
- 2:09:36I guess, you could say it's the other way around Boys Over
- 2:09:37Flowers. It's like borrowing from full
- 2:09:40house because Full House is 04 and Boys Over Flowers is 09.
- 2:09:45Right? His final confession is good,
- 2:09:47though. I was like, you know, this is a
- 2:09:49pretty good one. He says, loving you is something
- 2:09:51I can't stop. I love you.
- 2:09:53I love you enough to make the universe explode or dry up.
- 2:09:57All the waters on the earth enough to divide my soul again
- 2:10:01and Scatter it. That's how much I love you.
- 2:10:04Dang, damn, damn, damn genuinely good blind from somewhat of an
- 2:10:12oaf who maybe got into medical school.
- 2:10:15So by the way, I speak to his personality, like I think rain
- 2:10:21is attractive but he has like whole, like sob story in real
- 2:10:25life is that he was too ugly to be an idol until I guess, you
- 2:10:28know, whenever he became one and rain is so cute in this show.
- 2:10:33Oh yeah. No, he is, but the Like the
- 2:10:36quote, unquote ugliness. Again, I don't think he actually
- 2:10:38is ugly at all, but like, he's not, he doesn't look like some
- 2:10:40of the idols, you know, like looking like anime at the time.
- 2:10:43Yes, looking very yelled. He was a, he's not like that
- 2:10:46either. So that lends itself to his
- 2:10:48like, bumbling this in the show because if he had looked like,
- 2:10:51just someone just like, cut with ice and glass and like, you
- 2:10:54know, looked very perfect because he, like, let's just
- 2:10:57say, what's a good Idol? That has like a perfect tan.
- 2:11:00No sound from Astro, is basically a Specimen, right?
- 2:11:05Right. If challenge new is falling all
- 2:11:08over this concrete ice and looking pretty worse for wear.
- 2:11:12A lot of the time and looking really stupid.
- 2:11:15I don't think people would believe it and being a doofus in
- 2:11:19manners and like, yeah, it's been the whole time.
- 2:11:22It like not just like the ice scene but all of it.
- 2:11:24Yeah, I wouldn't have worked in nearly as well without reins
- 2:11:26kind of like not. So like you didn't get past
- 2:11:28surgery like you said he didn't have like a quote unquote like,
- 2:11:31you know, beauty standards at that time or whatever.
- 2:11:33Ever a perfect face, it lends itself to his character, being
- 2:11:37this Goofy and ultimately endearing and do very annoying
- 2:11:42guy. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:11:45So at the end, we have a happy ever after barbecue, with the
- 2:11:48both of the fief of the leads. We have hail 100 and was
- 2:11:52shocking minhyuk. Both there at the barbecue.
- 2:11:56In fact, they carpooled. So the barbecue at the house
- 2:12:00gather, like, I don't know what was going on and, you know,
- 2:12:02they, I don't think they were together.
- 2:12:04No. Okay they're just happy in their
- 2:12:05lives like hey yeah yeah yeah. And I was like whoa, this is
- 2:12:10throwing me a little bit because they were so like many Aqua so
- 2:12:15great but then we have qualms with him anyway and then head
- 2:12:19one was like a terrible bitch to her throughout Taiwan in their
- 2:12:23lives because it later like I won, I won so fickle or
- 2:12:26something that she very easily like when she's in something
- 2:12:28she's in it which is as soon as she's out of it because she fell
- 2:12:30out of love with me Huck like in one second.
- 2:12:32And then she like She accepted their marriage is like You know
- 2:12:36despite everything real enough. She was like done, she like
- 2:12:39stopped obsessing over youngjae she yeah, couraging Jian.
- 2:12:42She's like yeah you should do this.
- 2:12:43You should do that. You should make up with him.
- 2:12:44Yeah, ever. Yeah.
- 2:12:46And then they just had this like report together.
- 2:12:47I was like, I get it. I also don't get it.
- 2:12:49Like why are you still around? Like I would be like, I would
- 2:12:51want her gone but yeah, I would want her out.
- 2:12:55I don't want her in my house. Yeah, she was like friendly nice
- 2:12:58or whatever later. I'd be like.
- 2:12:59Well yeah, don't be at my house. And also, we're going to meet up
- 2:13:02somewhere outside the hand on mine.
- 2:13:03House. Yeah, so yeah, that was a little
- 2:13:08bit odd, but okay, we'll take it.
- 2:13:09And then final shot is them writing bike together and she
- 2:13:13has her own bicycle It was great.
- 2:13:20Yeah. Full circle, full circle moment.
- 2:13:22Yes about the about the comic just to know if it was like that
- 2:13:26or not or like, I don't know, I think I don't know and I don't
- 2:13:29think I want to read a 20 year old comic right now.
- 2:13:32I don't think I had the bandwidth.
- 2:13:34I don't think I had the energy necessarily summary somewhere.
- 2:13:38Yeah, maybe true true. But anyway, we've come to the
- 2:13:42end of my notes. I don't know if you had stuff
- 2:13:44that you still wanted to. Mention before we get out of
- 2:13:48here cuz this is a bit of a long one but I think it's necessary
- 2:13:51full house is so iconic. Yeah, I don't have much else to
- 2:13:56say in terms of my notes although I did write in my
- 2:13:58notes, Han jihun work from home Pioneer, you're right.
- 2:14:04Because she was working from home the whole time the whole
- 2:14:08time. Yeah.
- 2:14:10But I had and I still haven't bothered by like the fact that
- 2:14:13we really don't know. Either how dire her
- 2:14:14circumstances were when her parents died she's alone in that
- 2:14:16house or how much maybe her friends all looks family helped
- 2:14:20her and I wish we had more of that.
- 2:14:22That's something I really missed even more than like Where the
- 2:14:25other two second leads were coming from.
- 2:14:27Uh-huh. I'm more of her like childhood
- 2:14:29stories. Yeah, the friends and because we
- 2:14:32don't really have a frame of reference for how much they mean
- 2:14:34to her. We just know that they mean
- 2:14:36something to her enough to keep them in her life.
- 2:14:41I want to know how mad do I need to be at this guy for selling
- 2:14:44her house up from under, you know, because I was already mad
- 2:14:47enough. But like if you're if you were
- 2:14:49her benefactor or your family was rather during your guys's
- 2:14:52childhood, yeah did this to her than you.
- 2:14:54Even scum here than I thought the right thing to do then it's
- 2:14:57even worse. Yeah.
- 2:14:59So anyway, I recommend this show a lot.
- 2:15:03Yeah, I recommend it to you. If you've come this far and we
- 2:15:05spoiled it all the things about the show for you great now, I
- 2:15:09think you should definitely give it a watch, even though it could
- 2:15:12be shortened, a lot of these fights just seem repetitive and
- 2:15:16the plot is not really applied, but it's fine.
- 2:15:19Like this really does work. I like this show.
- 2:15:22A lot is 4 out of 5 for me. And it's criminally dated but in
- 2:15:26a really fun way. I mean yeah it feels like a
- 2:15:30time. Someone gets a fax.
- 2:15:32I was shocked, but you and the flip phone, what she'd action.
- 2:15:40One last note is that I miss flip phones, the they're coming
- 2:15:44back the for the flourish the satisfaction of shutting, the
- 2:15:50phone after you had a bad conversation, you got in a fight
- 2:15:54over the Phone or he's not coming to pick you up.
- 2:15:56Whatever the case was in the show, I was like, oh God.
- 2:16:00I miss that. And the little charms that you
- 2:16:02put on the phone. Oh, I missed it.
- 2:16:06I missed it so much. Damn, I miss a flip phone and
- 2:16:09then they could throw the phone anywhere.
- 2:16:11They wanted the they'd have to charge it all the time.
- 2:16:14You remember, those times you didn't have to charge your phone
- 2:16:16every day because a text cost like 25 cents to send.
- 2:16:19So you weren't really using it, you are calling people, you
- 2:16:22couldn't go on the internet, it would charge you.
- 2:16:25Make the time and now, like I have a diaper on my iPhone.
- 2:16:30Like it's literally, it's, it's a baby.
- 2:16:33I have to take care of it. I know you look at it wrong and
- 2:16:36it's like, decides not to work. I'm right.
- 2:16:38It's like, software update needed God anyway.
- 2:16:42So, I think that on that note, we're going to get out of here.
- 2:16:45Thank you so much Mina for dropping by, for watching this
