  wedding from April 26th, 1999. And coincidentally, this was the

  one episode of Raw that Jerry the King Waller was not on

  commentary. And we were speculating of, oh,

  was this the the the cat scenario when he walked out and

  when he quit? Nope, that was not it.

  I'm sure Jim would have known if he had been there for the show,

  but he said no. So.

  I got kidnapped by the Undertaker and put on a cross.

  Yeah, it was waiting for you guys to rescue me and here I am.

  We finally we finally got you. But no, this was the only

  episode of RAW that he missed and I actually found out the

  reason why. So I found on the Internet in

  the dark holes of wherever I was looking and Sherry the King.

  Lawler missed an episode of RAW in April of 1999 because he was
• 3:18
  arrested following an incident involving a parking enforcement
• 3:22
  officer in Memphis, TN. On March 16th, 1999, Lawler had
• 3:27
  an argument over a parking ticket at the Memphis
• 3:30
  International Airport, which led to the officer claiming that
• 3:32
  Lawler ran over his foot as he drove away in his van.
• 3:36
  Lawler denied the accusations but was arrested and later
• 3:40
  indicted and for on reckless endangerment charge.
• 3:44
  But he pled guilty to the charge and paid a $25 fine. 25 bucks
• 3:49

  wedding episode from April of 99.

  And, you know, it's November, it's Survivor Series season, so

  we've got to cover some Survivor Series matches.

  So we decided to cover in two parts Survivor Series 1998 and
• 4:32
  we're covering this in two parts because this card looks like a
• 4:35
  modern day AEW card with the amount of matches on this thing.

  But don't worry, it's only two hours and 45 minutes.

  Honestly, it's because it was too deadly.

  It's too much. Too much death for one part.

  We'll get we'll get to the set, but Survivor Series 1998 is a

  really interesting time in wrestling.

  Obviously this is like peak Attitude era, right?

  I mean this, this is like he's watching wrestling at this

  point. It feels very if we go ahead.

  Just in the heat of the Vincent Stone cold battle.

  Yeah. It feels very different.

  We've covered 97 before, right? Montreal Screwjob and it feels
• 5:18
  like very different, like I don't know, like it just really
• 5:20
  is turned into it's popped off in a way that it it hadn't at
• 5:24
  that point. Yep.

  So again, 98 Survivor Series. It's the 12th annual Survivor
• 5:28
  Series pay-per-view. It takes place on November 15th,
• 5:32
  1998 at the Keel Center in St. Louis, MO.

  Lawler and Jim Ross are the commentary team, and I'm sure
• 5:41
  everybody's figured it out by now, but this is the event that
• 5:44
  is the 14 man's single elimination tournament for the
• 5:47
  vacated WWF Championship. Because of that, it's also the
• 5:52
  first Survivor Series event to not feature the traditional
• 5:55
  Survivor Series elimination matches.
• 5:58
  And in the moment, and I know like recently, we're always
• 6:03
  like, oh man, I wish they'd go back to those matches.
• 6:05
  I wish they would have a full card with those matches.
• 6:08
  Whenever we tried to cover those matches, those they Survivor
• 6:12
  Series matches don't always hold up.

  And, and I feel like most of the time they don't hold up.

  Like, yeah, there's their moments and stuff, but and.

  Guys can get on like a transition move like high cost

  I think the nostalgia really overpowers, like the matches

  born, anybody that started watching wrestling during the

  Attitude Era has no like warm and fuzzy feelings towards

  traditional Survivor Series matches.

  You know, like, I feel like you've got to be like a person

  that watched wrestling in the early 90s, late 80s, like around

  our age range to really appreciate the traditional
• 7:17
  Survivor Series matches. I, I mean, I, I, I hated the Raw

  versus Smackdown Survivor Series, but it's this, it's

  similar to what was going on back then too.

  Like these guys just paired together.

  For no. Reason pretty much.

  Yeah, this is like of the era you'd get like Los Baricos

  versus DOA as a Survivor Series match and like that's this is

  gets eliminated or as a sole survivor.

  All right, so the major storyline of this we we talked

  about this with the tournament is the WWF Championship had been

  vacated in the month of September after the events at

  Breakdown in your House where Undertaker and Kane both pinned

  Stone Cold Steve Austin at the same time for the match.

  There's a bunch of different things, like a bunch of classic

  WWF attitude era that happens leading up to this Survivor
• 8:54
  Series. Like, I believe at one point

  it's I, I, I could be wrong, but in the fall is when the whole

  like Stone cold taking McMahon hostage with the and he's got

  the gun to his head and it's just. 3. 16 shows up.

  You know, just just one of the many things and Mr. Sacco's

  stuff is popping off too right at this point.

  I, I remember feeling like, I don't know, I don't, I think, I

  been getting the shaft for a while from McMahon so.

  So before before we we talk about the card and the actual

  pay-per-view, let's just breeze through what was on before this.

  So for those of you that may or may not remember, this is like

  the Sunday Night Heat era, which was basically a way for WWF to

  try and sell their pay-per-view. So there's a dark match and.

  It was it on USA as well. I believe it was on USA, right?

  also on that that you know, the the channel guide I think free.

  For all stuff Channel 99. Yeah, so dark match that was not

  on heat was too much. Scott Taylor and Brian

  Christopher defeating the Hardy Boys in A tag team match and how

  long it went and then the three matches on Sunday Night Heat.

  The first was the Job squad, Bob Hawley and two Cold Scorpio with

  Al Snow defeating the Legion of Doom not Hawking Animal Animal

  in draws. Oh, I wish I saw that so.

  It just tells you where Animal in draws as the leading of Doom

  were right now that they're losing to the job squad.

  On Sunday night, Sunday night heat, that is.

  seconds. Our next match was Val Venus

  defeating Ali Singh with Babu. I don't remember that guy and

  And then the last match on Sunday night, he was Gangrel

  with Edge and Christian defeating Steve Blackman in a

  highlights all 14 men in the tournament.

  I, I really enjoyed it. I don't know who narrates it.

  through them and they're, you know, training and the black and

  white videos, the close up shots of their face.

  It makes you believe everyone has a chance.
