- 0:39SPEAKER_06: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, Part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_06: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:49SPEAKER_06: Tristan, we are so back.
- 0:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, sorry for the uh delay, y'all.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: My co-host decided to take a vacation and take a week off, it seems.
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, total vacation, not totally not for work or anything.
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Beautiful New York City.
- 1:04SPEAKER_06: Uh I hate it.
- 1:05SPEAKER_06: It's the worst place in the world.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: New York City stinks.
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: How many stars out of five?
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: None.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: Negative five.
- 1:13SPEAKER_04: You serious?
- 1:14SPEAKER_04: You're gonna you're gonna genuinely give it zero stars out of five for New York City.
- 1:18SPEAKER_06: What okay, two, two out of five, genuinely.
- 1:20SPEAKER_06: Two out of five.
- 1:21SPEAKER_06: Okay, it's not a good thing.
- 1:22SPEAKER_06: The food, the food rules.
- 1:23SPEAKER_06: Food rules.
- 1:24SPEAKER_06: Five out of five.
- 1:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:26SPEAKER_06: Food rules, nothing else about it is good.
- 1:29SPEAKER_06: It's so crowded.
- 1:30SPEAKER_06: There's not even the sights.
- 1:36SPEAKER_06: And it's just there's there's too many people and there's no parking.
- 1:39SPEAKER_06: That's like two huge things for me.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: Supposed to ride the train, dog.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: Go ride the gross train.
- 1:45SPEAKER_06: I don't, I don't want to ride the gross train.
- 1:48SPEAKER_06: I don't want to do that.
- 1:50SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_06: Sorry everybody for being out of town.
- 1:55SPEAKER_06: Uh, but it would ended up being pretty good timing because Texas Tech had a bye week last week.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: Um, so we destroyed that by.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: Do we need to play the song?
- 2:03SPEAKER_06: I think we do.
- 2:05SPEAKER_06: I think we should listen.
- 2:07SPEAKER_06: We have a new upcoming star coming up on the football team.
- 2:12SPEAKER_06: We have a top 25 preseason ranking in basketball.
- 2:16SPEAKER_06: I think we won the bye week.
- 2:18SPEAKER_04: How about you uh play an abbreviated version of the song?
- 2:21SPEAKER_06: I will play an abbreviated version of the song.
- 2:25SPEAKER_06: Red Raider coming at you.
- 2:29SPEAKER_06: I think, I think that Texas Tech Football is in a pretty good place.
- 2:37SPEAKER_06: Despite losing two games in a row, I think we're still in a good spot.
- 2:42SPEAKER_06: And we didn't get to talk about this last week because of me selfishly not being able to pod.
- 2:48SPEAKER_06: Baron Morton has arrived.
- 2:51SPEAKER_04: He is the golden child, the uh the chosen one of West Texas, our Abilene Kid, dude.
- 2:57SPEAKER_04: Um, hot take.
- 2:59SPEAKER_04: I don't know if this is actually a hot take, but has he not if he doesn't take those shots that in the second quarter that really kind of knocked him off his uh his groove, I think we won that game.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: I think we win that game.
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: I really do because I think we kind of uh started playing a little more conservatively.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: Like he wasn't able to play at full lethality.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: I think we would have won in Stillwater.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: I do.
- 3:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean it's hard, it's hard for me to judge.
- 3:21SPEAKER_06: Oklahoma State's a good football team.
- 3:23SPEAKER_06: And they uh really showed it in the second half as they brought a whole lot more pressure.
- 3:29SPEAKER_06: Uh, a lot of that, you know, due to Barron Morton taking that big hit to his leg and being pretty hobbled.
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: Um, I don't think that's a bad take.
- 3:38SPEAKER_06: Um, I don't know if I necessarily agree with it because you know he really did look out of turn in the second half.
- 3:45SPEAKER_06: And um, I know a lot of that was due to the injury, but um, you know, Oklahoma State's defense though is just killer.
- 3:52SPEAKER_06: And their defensive line, when though you got six or seven guys coming at you on a lot of these plays, I don't know if Barron really would have been able to manage a win there in Stillwater.
- 4:05SPEAKER_06: Um, but I think he was phenomenal in the first half.
- 4:08SPEAKER_06: I think he showed you everything he needs to show you to be, you know, probably your new starter.
- 4:15SPEAKER_06: Um, despite, you know, not really doing much in the fourth quarter and the and midway through the third.
- 4:21SPEAKER_06: So um overall, I was very pleased with Baron Morton's first start.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: Look, I'm just gonna do a little long order visionism here.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: I'm saying if Baron Morton is healthy and plays the whole year, we beat Bama in game one, and we're on our way to a national championship right now.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: I do, I think that I think we're undefeated.
- 4:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think so too.
- 4:40SPEAKER_06: Barron Morton obviously showed you that he's good enough to beat Georgia.
- 4:44SPEAKER_06: Absolutely, that's all that matters.
- 4:46SPEAKER_06: No, no, but uh you're you're happy if you're a Texas Tech fan at this point.
- 4:51SPEAKER_06: I know there's kind of a little QB controversy going on right now.
- 4:54SPEAKER_06: Um, from the latest presser that Joey just had today, which is Monday.
- 5:00SPEAKER_06: I I would actually be a little genuinely shocked if they don't go with Baron Morton um because of everything he showed you, the fan base is rallying around you, and this is just your chance to give a guy who is your future the proper reps to really go into next year's strong.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and a lot of the promotional material kind of makes it feel like it's happening.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: Like you'll see Barron Morton's Twitter account kind of saying the same thing and like getting a lot of attention for it.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: Um, saying like how excited he is is to play in front of the uh the best fan base in the country and the Jones.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: And I mean, I think the fans would love to see a Baron Morton start at home.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: I think I think that'd probably be that'd be like a big booster to the crowd.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: And I'm with you, dude.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: And like like we kind of just said, I think what he what he showed in Stillwater, and like you said, I I kind of think not kind of, I believe, but I think we we really could have won that game had he stayed uh perfectly lethal the whole time because man, he was throwing some darts and he he was making some great decisions, he's got a really good sixth sense.
- 6:03SPEAKER_04: He was able to get out of the out of pressure and throw it away when he needed it to, which is a problem.
- 6:09SPEAKER_04: Smith hasn't been able to really accomplish.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: He he takes a lot of sacks in the backfield, he doesn't get rid of the ball, he doesn't take care of it quite as well as Baron Morton showed in one game.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: Granted, it's one game it's uh compared to uh Smith's collection.
- 6:24SPEAKER_04: But dude, I I like I think I'm with you.
- 6:26SPEAKER_04: I think it's kind of a clear start for Barron Morton.
- 6:29SPEAKER_04: You would think that Tyler Shuck would be thrown in there, but a lot of energy is beyond Barron right now.
- 6:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I don't even know if Tyler Shuck's gonna be available.
- 6:37SPEAKER_06: Uh Joe, what Joey was talking about, Don Williams asked him about Shuck's uh uh availability for this upcoming game.
- 6:46SPEAKER_06: And uh it really seems to come down to the wire here.
- 6:49SPEAKER_06: Uh, like if he's not good to go by tomorrow, as in Tuesday, uh I don't think he's gonna be active for this game.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: And so I think they're just gonna suit up Smith and Morton.
- 6:59SPEAKER_06: Um, it looks like the Baylor game is when that's really gonna become a uh uh a point of contention when Shuck is involved now in the mix.
- 7:09SPEAKER_06: Um this and now he could start.
- 7:11SPEAKER_06: He could be super healthy all of a sudden and you know go through practice and uh you know be throwing good, that that shoulders feeling good.
- 7:19SPEAKER_06: So uh who who really knows, except for the team right now.
- 7:23SPEAKER_06: Um if all three quarterbacks are healthy, like genuinely healthy, um who would you start in this game?
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, that hurts.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: That hurts, that hurts, that hurts.
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: Um and all the games have happened the way they have.
- 7:39SPEAKER_04: Is that what the question is is going on?
- 7:41SPEAKER_04: Like, we're not saying like, okay, it's not like a zero-zero schedule sort of thing.
- 7:44SPEAKER_04: No, okay.
- 7:45SPEAKER_06: It's we're right now we're three and three going into West Virginia.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, if if just the logical part of my brain is talking, I'd probably say Tyler Shuck, you know, just because you know he was meant to be the starter quarterback and probably play starter the whole season.
- 8:00SPEAKER_04: So you'd think that you know much of the playbook in the preseason was built around him, and you know, he's the experienced guy.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: He's probably got he's you know, he's a forced former four-star transfer and all that.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, probably probably Shuck, but you know, my heart isn't barren now.
- 8:14SPEAKER_04: Like that's it's kind of I got two different parts of my body talking right now.
- 8:18SPEAKER_04: That was weird.
- 8:21SPEAKER_06: A little weird.
- 8:22SPEAKER_06: A little weird.
- 8:24SPEAKER_06: No, I uh I hate this uh situation because I I'm I'm a huge Donovan Smith guy.
- 8:34SPEAKER_06: I have been since last year.
- 8:36SPEAKER_06: You're the biggest.
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: I well, I don't know.
- 8:38SPEAKER_04: In the podcast circles, I feel like at least.
- 8:40SPEAKER_06: Well, I don't know.
- 8:41SPEAKER_06: Jeremy over at the Tortillas and Takes podcast, he's a big Donovan Smith guy too.
- 8:45SPEAKER_06: Um I Donovan clearly lost his job to me.
- 8:52SPEAKER_06: He didn't show enough, uh, whether that was due to injury, whether that was uh whatever.
- 8:57SPEAKER_06: He beat Texas, that was awesome.
- 8:59SPEAKER_06: He beat Houston, um, that was great too.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: But uh in the Kansas State and Oklahoma state, well, really more the Kansas State game, uh, and in the Houston game, if you're looking at it, uh NC State as well, he did not look good.
- 9:14SPEAKER_06: He didn't look like uh like you need to keep him out there over Barron Morton.
- 9:20SPEAKER_06: You know, after seeing both of them play now, um, it really didn't seem like uh you need to play Donovan Smith if you have a healthy Barron Morton on the roster, which I think he is.
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: You know, he took that pretty big hit in the Oklahoma State game, talking about Barron, of course.
- 9:35SPEAKER_06: And um, you know, you hope that leg is 100% so he's he's mobile and he can, you know, do what Barron Morton can do, because that's where he's really lethal.
- 9:44SPEAKER_06: But so just talking about those two, it should be Morton.
- 9:49SPEAKER_06: Now, when you bring Shuck into the case equation, it's it's hard because we haven't seen Shuck in this offense, you know.
- 9:57SPEAKER_06: Uh, we saw a quarter of it, maybe half a quarter of it until he got hurt.
- 10:03SPEAKER_06: And we I don't think you can really judge last year too much uh on you know those three games that Shuck did play because that was a Matt Wells off and Sonny Cumbie offense.
- 10:15SPEAKER_06: This is not that.
- 10:17SPEAKER_06: So it it it's hard because I think you know Shuck definitely deserves an opportunity because I think he is a really talented quarterback and I think he can produce wins for a power five team.
- 10:32SPEAKER_06: Um at this point, it's more of an is it worth it kind of situation, you know.
- 10:37SPEAKER_06: Is it worth Tyler Shuck starting these last few games and uh us potentially winning uh, you know, maybe one extra game, if even that, we don't even know if Tyler Shuck starting would produce more wins than Baron Morton starting.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: That's like nearly impossible to measure.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's purely hypothetical.
- 10:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's all purely hypothetical at this point.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: Um, so no, I think if you're just thinking about the grand scheme, you're thinking about next season, you're thinking about the season afterwards, you need to ride with Baron Morton the rest of the way.
- 11:10SPEAKER_06: Um, because it gives him that extra experience that you really need going into next year because you're gonna return some guys on this offense.
- 11:21SPEAKER_06: I mean, uh looking at our wide receivers, we're extremely young.
- 11:25SPEAKER_06: Uh, we have some great tight ends that have many more years of eligibility.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: Hopefully, you will have a very much improved offensive line next year.
- 11:33SPEAKER_06: You know, you'll have Cole Spencer, who we hoped were was going to be here for this year, um, but he's gonna be back next year.
- 11:40SPEAKER_06: So, you know, I think for the offense to really produce next season and really bring Texas Tech to a much better level next season, you play Baron Morton the rest of the year as long as he's healthy.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: So you're you're playing an investment game here.
- 12:00SPEAKER_04: You're you're you're kind of already buying into next season rather than uh finish really strong this season.
- 12:05SPEAKER_06: Well, it's kind of two different things.
- 12:07SPEAKER_06: Uh well, it's it's kind of the same thought process because I don't know if Tyler Shuck is gonna give you more wins than Baron Morton could right now.
- 12:14SPEAKER_06: And I again that's purely skeptical, but I don't know if Tyler Shuck is gonna be that guy that just absolutely rolls through the offense and is unbelievable in Kidley's system and uh you know leads Texas Tech to a five and one, six and oh finish.
- 12:30SPEAKER_06: You know, that's the only way I see Tyler Shuck uh starting Tyler Shuck being the go-to right now.
- 12:39SPEAKER_06: Um, so no, I I would if as long as Barron Morton's healthy, I would I would say go with Barrett.
- 12:45SPEAKER_04: Everything you're saying is making a lot of sense.
- 12:46SPEAKER_04: I think Donovan Smith has officially become your QB three once Tyler Shuck is healthy.
- 12:52SPEAKER_04: Um, I think he's he's kind of dropped down into that true backup role.
- 12:56SPEAKER_04: Um, he has had plenty of opportunities to really solidify being QB one, you know.
- 13:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we've talked about it on this podcast, you know, after he won that UT game, we're like we we could really be looking at the guy you ride with for the rest of the season, yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: And obviously uh he had some real road game problems, wheels really coming off a bit with him a bit.
- 13:13SPEAKER_04: Um, and I'm with you.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: If if we can get Baron Morton like slinging it around and he's finishing strong this season and building that experience up, building that confidence up, really gelling with his team, building that chemistry.
- 13:25SPEAKER_04: You have a future to look forward to, and that's the whole point of Joey McGuire.
- 13:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, this this season was always supposed to be the foundation, not the future.
- 13:31SPEAKER_04: So I'm with you there.
- 13:33SPEAKER_04: And another question is you know, we keep saying this over and over again.
- 13:35SPEAKER_04: It's like we don't know if Shuck really gives you more wins.
- 13:38SPEAKER_04: Um, and you gotta think about it also that this guy hasn't been playing real football in a while.
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's been hurt, so he was he's been in recovery and rehab this whole time.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: So, how ready would he be compared to a battle experienced Morton at this point?
- 13:51SPEAKER_06: So, well, this is all how long, how long would he even last?
- 13:55SPEAKER_06: You know, we could play Tyler Shuck and he'd get hurt in the first half of the next game, you know.
- 13:59SPEAKER_06: It's it's an unfortunate thing, but durability is a is a huge factor when evaluating quarterbacks, and Tyler Shuck just does not have that.
- 14:07SPEAKER_06: He could be as smart as anybody, uh, you know, in the with the playbook, and he could know how to run this offense better than anybody.
- 14:14SPEAKER_06: But if you're not gonna be able to stay on the field, it's not even worth it, you know.
- 14:17SPEAKER_06: Um, so I I don't know.
- 14:19SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna if I'm not gonna be upset if they throw out Shuck against West Virginia.
- 14:27SPEAKER_06: I'm not because we haven't seen him, and he could be awesome, and we could, you know, be a really, really well-flowing offense with him in there.
- 14:36SPEAKER_06: So um I I would like to see Barron Morton.
- 14:39SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna be upset if it's not Barron Morton.
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: I'm with you.
- 14:43SPEAKER_04: I think I think that kind of wraps up the the the QB thing.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: I think I think we kind of we've both kind of echoed the sentiment that Lubbock's feeling right now.
- 14:49SPEAKER_04: Is Barron Morton seems kind of like a West Texas kid, like at the heart of all of us right now, where we just really want him to be the guy because it's a grit a perfect story for it.
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: And he seems he seems like the real freaking deal.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: I mean, he was singing around state.
- 15:02SPEAKER_06: Some of those stars in the first half were ridiculous.
- 15:05SPEAKER_04: He they were, man.
- 15:06SPEAKER_04: And a lot of people were saying, like, you know, this is like this is like a classic Texas tech quarterback, and I completely agree.
- 15:12SPEAKER_04: Like he's got that in him.
- 15:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he could definitely be the guy that shines best in Kidley's system.
- 15:17SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, we just we haven't seen Shuck yet, so I can't really say that, but um, yeah, I think I think we can move on.
- 15:25SPEAKER_06: Um, what what I was really disappointed more so in the Oklahoma State game was um the defense.
- 15:32SPEAKER_06: The defense gave up 41 points.
- 15:34SPEAKER_06: Um, we were allowing a lot of big plays on some crucial third downs.
- 15:37SPEAKER_06: We let Spencer Sanders do whatever the hell he wanted in the run game.
- 15:41SPEAKER_06: And um it this defense, the last few games has been pretty disappointing.
- 15:46SPEAKER_06: Um, uh with how much talent and how much senior uh you know leadership we have, we highlighted it in the preview pod how many seniors we have in this secondary.
- 15:56SPEAKER_06: And um, you know, you have some really, really awesome uh defensive linemen here, and you know, guys like Rashawn Merriweather, Kosai Eldridge.
- 16:05SPEAKER_06: I mean, you have some real talent on this defense, and you just have not shown uh that you're a very good defensive team yet, and that's disappointing.
- 16:12SPEAKER_06: Um, I know it's gonna take a year or two, but you hate you hate knowing Tyree Wilson is gonna leave after this year.
- 16:19SPEAKER_06: You hate knowing that Jalen Hutchins is gonna leave after this year, and Marquise Waters, and uh, you know, all these guys are leaving the defense, and uh so you want to take advantage while they're here, and you know that they're talented, but we can't seem to really get it together.
- 16:34SPEAKER_06: And I know Oklahoma State's a good team.
- 16:36SPEAKER_06: Uh, giving up 41 points is is disappointing.
- 16:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's we got some real hot and cold syndrome going on with the defense because some games we've been like, okay, defense did their job, they held them to enough points where the offense could reasonably beat them, and this was not that game.
- 16:49SPEAKER_04: Like you said, they really Spencer Sanders was just able to take off of his legs and get the yards he needed pretty much every time, and you just cannot have that, especially whenever you know it's going to happen.
- 16:58SPEAKER_04: It's so predictable with Spencer Sanders.
- 17:00SPEAKER_04: So it it was frustrating to watch, and especially once you saw your offense start to lose fuel in the second half, mainly because your quarterback is definitely playing at 50 at that point due to his not being able to use his legs.
- 17:13SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's it was it was indeed frustrating to see.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: And there's some real shining moments in this game, too.
- 17:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, in the first half, the offense was magnificent, and our special teams were playing lights out, except for the missed field goal, Trey Wolf again, another hot and cold guy.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: My my man, geez, it's just it's it's what Trey Wolfe are gonna get this game, it seems, with him.
- 17:34SPEAKER_04: Um, and the special teams were able to pull off that amazing offside onside kick, and I got called back due to a ridiculous rule.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: I mean, I cannot believe that rule exists.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: That is ludicrous.
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: How that I mean props to Gundy and his team for knowing immediately to do that.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: Hey, that's again it's if it's the rules, it's the rules.
- 17:53SPEAKER_04: But what an absolute joke of a rule.
- 17:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I don't like that rule either, but you know, he clearly was smart about it.
- 18:01SPEAKER_06: And immediately after uh the tech player caught the ball, I mean, the Oklahoma State guys were saying, Hey, we called fair catch.
- 18:08SPEAKER_06: Like, we uh this is the rule, and that's what the rule is.
- 18:11SPEAKER_06: And it's the same thing with like targeting, it's the same thing with all these dumb rules in football that um you know it it's just it's the rule, it's not the execution of it.
- 18:22SPEAKER_04: So does this kill the onside kick?
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: Like, if well if if you're if you're a catching team, if you're a receiving team, how do you not like ingrain it into your players that anytime they do an onside kick, always call a fair catch?
- 18:34SPEAKER_06: Well, because especially that one, that was very unexpected.
- 18:37SPEAKER_06: And so these guys, you know, last second it happens, and then luckily that guy was we had the ball.
- 18:43SPEAKER_06: It was it was it was I mean, the guy, all credit to the Oklahoma State player right there, put his hand in the air because I don't think a lot of players would do that at the college level and would recognize to throw their hand up last minute and call for a fair catch in that situation.
- 18:58SPEAKER_06: So I that's to me, it's more of a props to Oklahoma State than uh you know, being upset at the rule.
- 19:06SPEAKER_06: Uh, it is a dumb rule.
- 19:08SPEAKER_06: I don't I don't like it either, but you know, what are you gonna do?
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: For sure.
- 19:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh anything else about the OSU game?
- 19:16SPEAKER_06: Uh no, not really.
- 19:18SPEAKER_06: Um you know, I think I think special teams could have been better, obviously.
- 19:23SPEAKER_06: The the Trey Wolf thing, you know, he's hot and cold, he'll hit one, he'll he'll miss one.
- 19:29SPEAKER_06: But Joey seems pretty confident in him.
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: He was asked about it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: Um he's probably your best option, that's the thing.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I don't know if if throwing in Gino Garcia is the answer here or whatever, but I think uh I think Trey Wolf is good enough.
- 19:43SPEAKER_06: We obviously know he's got the leg to kick these long field goals.
- 19:46SPEAKER_06: He just it's just it's hard when you're in Stillwater, it's hard when you're in Manhattan, you know.
- 19:51SPEAKER_06: Uh, but luckily you're returning home, and um, hopefully that'll give you a little bit of a boost here.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, and and just one last thing with the Pokes.
- 20:01SPEAKER_04: It was kind of funny to uh hear Mike Gundy say, Oh, that's that's that's not good.
- 20:05SPEAKER_04: Whenever they said that Aaron Morton's a red shirt brushman, it's hard to hate Gundy, you know, and they get the guy is probably the most underrated coach, one of the most underrated coaches in the entire country.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: Like OSU never gets nearly the enough credit that they do.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: That's a great team.
- 20:19SPEAKER_04: I want them to win the Big 12.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: If it's gonna be any of the realistic teams that have a shot, them or K-State, if they're if they're still in the running, definitely one of those two.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: Please, for the love of God, don't let UT or uh TCU run it run it and get it.
- 20:31SPEAKER_05: But K-State's still undefeated in the Big 12, aren't they?
- 20:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know are you sure?
- 20:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they beat yeah, they're 3-0.
- 20:39SPEAKER_06: They beat Oklahoma, us, and Iowa State.
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: An OSU versus K-State game would be the perfect Big 12 championship at this point.
- 20:46SPEAKER_06: Well, K-State and TCU are playing this week, so that's a big game.
- 20:50SPEAKER_06: The battle of the purple bros.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Oh, I think it's I think it's immensely important.
- 21:01SPEAKER_04: I think if there's a must-win on the schedule at this point, it's it's West Virginia.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: It's the time to get right, you're back at home, you're you're working on an undefeated home winning streak, you're trying to make your way to bore bowl eligibility because you look at the schedule, and yes, you you you and I were sitting here going, we could win five more games if we if all the cards fall right.
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: But I still think six and six is still very much in play, also, when you look at the schedule.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: And I think getting over West Virginia at home to kind of get we're in a we're in a skid, we're in a two-loss skid.
- 21:33SPEAKER_04: You get right at home in front of the home crowd, you get another W on the board, you get in, you get in the green, you know, you go four and three, not three and four.
- 21:40SPEAKER_04: And I think you're in great shape moving forward.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: I think this West Virginia game is a must-win.
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: I do.
- 21:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think it's uh I think it's as close to a must-win as you can get at this point in the season.
- 21:50SPEAKER_06: Um, West Virginia is a team that's not as bad as you think.
- 21:54SPEAKER_06: They obviously had a stinker against Texas.
- 21:56SPEAKER_06: Uh, and Texas, we've seen, has been very hot in.
- 22:00SPEAKER_06: Cold.
- 22:00SPEAKER_06: They almost blew one to Iowa State.
- 22:02SPEAKER_06: Probably should have lost that game if they called targeting.
- 22:05SPEAKER_04: And the drop catch.
- 22:06SPEAKER_06: Come on.
- 22:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and yeah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_06: And the drop catch by Xavier Hutchinson.
- 22:11SPEAKER_06: Sorry, Iowa State fans, if you're happening to be listening.
- 22:16SPEAKER_06: You know, you lost to Kansas, who I may might be decent.
- 22:21SPEAKER_04: They're decent.
- 22:22SPEAKER_04: They're good.
- 22:22SPEAKER_04: They're good.
- 22:23SPEAKER_04: I think it's safe to say they're a good team.
- 22:24SPEAKER_04: I do.
- 22:25SPEAKER_04: They're dealing with solid.
- 22:26SPEAKER_06: Their defense is god off.
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 22:28SPEAKER_06: Like really, really bad.
- 22:30SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 22:30SPEAKER_06: And their offense, I don't know, with without Jalen Daniels, it's hard to say.
- 22:35SPEAKER_06: Um because Jalen Daniels was really having a killer year.
- 22:38SPEAKER_06: Um and then they lost to Pitt.
- 22:40SPEAKER_06: So in a thriller.
- 22:43SPEAKER_06: You know, it was a good game, and they beat Virginia Tech, who I don't think is very good this year.
- 22:47SPEAKER_06: And they just came off and went against Baylor.
- 22:50SPEAKER_06: So, you know, uh, it's hard to really judge if West Virginia is is all that bad yet.
- 22:56SPEAKER_06: I think they're a middle tier Big 12 team.
- 22:59SPEAKER_04: There, there's not a single bad team in the Big 12.
- 23:02SPEAKER_04: I think everyone is middle tier.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: I do.
- 23:05SPEAKER_04: I don't think there's anyone that's bottom tier.
- 23:07SPEAKER_04: I think any the only reason why you'd be bottom tier is because in relativity to the others, then yes, you're bottom tier.
- 23:13SPEAKER_04: But I don't think there's there's obviously not a true Kansas Vanderbilt level team in this conference right now.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: There's not, you know, and whenever I say Kansas, I mean like classic Kansas, you know, the gauge of what's really, really bad team.
- 23:25SPEAKER_04: Um, so West Virginia is in that same slot, man.
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: And I've been saying this for a while.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: Like I've been saying that West Virginia is not as bad as they seem.
- 23:32SPEAKER_04: I've been saying this.
- 23:34SPEAKER_04: Um, and they're they're they proved it whenever they they went and punched Baylor.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: Uh, but I think Baylor's starting to show that you know they aren't the same team they were yesterday last year.
- 23:43SPEAKER_04: They did lose a ton of people, and they lost their uh their most important coach on the staff.
- 23:48SPEAKER_04: And and so I I I think I think we're all kind of there's this like after you get away from the top, like OSU, K State, TCU, everyone's kind of in the same group, in my opinion.
- 24:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I I would I would tend to agree with that.
- 24:04SPEAKER_06: It's it's I need to see a few more games still because it's like I don't know what it's not the same every week, you know.
- 24:10SPEAKER_06: You get Oklahoma scoring no points against Texas in a rivalry game, and then you get Oklahoma scoring 50 whatever points against Kansas, who we previously thought was pretty decent.
- 24:19SPEAKER_06: And now is Kansas bad?
- 24:21SPEAKER_06: Is Oklahoma actually pretty good?
- 24:23SPEAKER_06: Who's to say?
- 24:25SPEAKER_06: Who's to say at this point?
- 24:26SPEAKER_06: We're just eating each other alive, uh, minus TCU in Kansas State.
- 24:31SPEAKER_06: Um, Oklahoma State finally took that L.
- 24:33SPEAKER_06: Texas, you know, I guess you could put them in that top tier.
- 24:37SPEAKER_06: Um, they are definitely talented enough to be in that top tier, but uh, you know, they're coming, they have a loss against Texas Tex.
- 24:44SPEAKER_06: So uh who knows?
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: Who knows in the Big 12?
- 24:47SPEAKER_06: I have no scope.
- 24:48SPEAKER_06: It's very hard to judge any of these teams because it's so different every week.
- 24:52SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 24:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's what's so fun about it.
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: You know, that's it's what I those are the games I tune into on a Saturday.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: Um, and I love watching it.
- 24:59SPEAKER_04: So uh this West Virginia, but let's get back to uh the the matter at hand.
- 25:04SPEAKER_04: You know, we went ahead and did our big scope now.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: Let's do a microcosm here.
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: So West Virginia, it's it's not gonna be an easy game.
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: I think there's if obviously if there's a potential to blow someone out, it's probably West Virginia or Kansas at home.
- 25:18SPEAKER_04: Um, but we have we have not done that yet.
- 25:21SPEAKER_04: That hasn't happened, except obviously except for Murray State, doesn't count, but we haven't really dominated anyone yet.
- 25:27SPEAKER_04: And I don't expect that to happen against West Virginia.
- 25:31SPEAKER_04: I think it'll be a dogfight.
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: I think we'll be we'll we'll get out at most a two-score win.
- 25:36SPEAKER_04: But it's it's gonna be a tough one, dude.
- 25:38SPEAKER_04: What do you think?
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: What are your thoughts looking at it?
- 25:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, looking looking at West Virginia, when they win games, when they're competitive, they get the run game going.
- 25:47SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech has done a pretty good job overall uh stopping the run game.
- 25:51SPEAKER_06: Uh Kansas State was really the only one.
- 25:54SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, well, yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_06: But Kansas State was really the only one where you struggled against the run.
- 26:01SPEAKER_06: Um, you could say certain plays at Texas, but then you know you caused a big fumble at the end of the game.
- 26:05SPEAKER_06: You yeah, you held them on some of those Wildcat formations.
- 26:09SPEAKER_06: Um, so I if we can hold West Virginia to, you know, under 100 rushing yards, maybe under 150, I think you got a pretty good shot at winning this game.
- 26:25SPEAKER_06: Uh, I don't think JT Daniels is gonna beat you.
- 26:28SPEAKER_06: Um, I just don't think he's as good of, you know, that amazing of a quarterback to really take over a game, especially in hostile territory.
- 26:36SPEAKER_06: Um so and and West Virginia, their defense, they have some guys on the defensive line, but their secondary is really you can you can pick them apart pretty easily.
- 26:45SPEAKER_06: And if you have Baron Morton first half against Oklahoma State, I mean, you know, he's gonna be able to do that against that West Virginia team.
- 26:54SPEAKER_06: So um I I I mean I'd predict a Texas Tech win for sure in this one.
- 26:59SPEAKER_06: I think at home you're just a different team, and I think uh uh, you know, your team really comes out and plays just much different.
- 27:07SPEAKER_06: And I think, you know, if Barron Morton is the guy and the team is uh as rallied around Barron Morton as they were rumored to have been when he was named a starter against Alabama State.
- 27:19SPEAKER_06: I think you have a really good shot and you and you should win this game.
- 27:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, man, I'm really excited to see a Baron Morton led home team.
- 27:24SPEAKER_04: I think it's gonna be a whole different level of confidence and energy behind him, and uh hopefully the team feels that way as well.
- 27:29SPEAKER_04: Hopefully, we're really rested up.
- 27:31SPEAKER_04: All the injuries are gone because we're getting pretty banged up in that OSU game.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: And hopefully we got we have taken the time to get over those injuries as well.
- 27:38SPEAKER_04: So everyone comes out feeling good, feeling confident.
- 27:40SPEAKER_04: Um, do we have a game time yet?
- 27:43SPEAKER_06: Uh two o'clock.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: Two o'clock on FS1.
- 27:47SPEAKER_06: Uh, it's supposed to be a nice 83 degrees in the world.
- 27:50SPEAKER_04: Okay, perfect.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: Love it, love, lovely, lovely.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: I was about to say we're getting to that.
- 27:53SPEAKER_04: It feels gorgeous here in central Texas.
- 27:55SPEAKER_04: So I'm hoping it's uh translated over to the western side as well.
- 27:59SPEAKER_04: Um, so awesome, man.
- 28:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think that that all is a big recipe to uh a great game.
- 28:03SPEAKER_04: And like I said, man, if I could wish for anything realistically this season, and it it it's it's kind of on my Christmas list.
- 28:11SPEAKER_04: I want an undefeated home record in the Jones this year.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: Because I think I just think that means truly we are in a new dawn of a new era in Texas Tech football.
- 28:21SPEAKER_04: I want that so bad, and this is another test for it.
- 28:24SPEAKER_06: You have a really good chance right here, not only at home, but throughout the rest of the schedule.
- 28:30SPEAKER_06: You have one ranked opponent left on the schedule as of right now, it'll probably remain that way, and that's yeah, and that's gonna be TCU.
- 28:37SPEAKER_06: Uh, and that's in Fort Worth, and you know, Texas Tech fans are still gonna show out for that one.
- 28:42SPEAKER_06: So um, West Virginia, Baylor, Kansas, and OU, those are your remaining home opponents, and I think you have a good chance at winning each of those games.
- 28:51SPEAKER_06: So if you can pull out four and two and win all the home games, I'm thrilled with that.
- 28:56SPEAKER_06: And finish up, finish up with what a seven and five, would that be?
- 29:00SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 29:00SPEAKER_06: Um, yeah, but yeah, I I I am still really high on this Texas Tech team.
- 29:06SPEAKER_06: And I know these last couple games have not been super fun, uh, but you've been competitive with some really, really good teams.
- 29:13SPEAKER_06: Oklahoma State and Kansas State are really good teams.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: So uh, you know, to go into their house and play as good as you did uh for the majority of those games.
- 29:22SPEAKER_06: Um I'm I'm in a good spot with Texas Tech football.
- 29:26SPEAKER_06: And like I said, uh on the preseason predictions uh for Texas Tech, I said they were gonna be three and three at this point, and then I said they were gonna lose, I think, to Baylor.
- 29:39SPEAKER_06: And I think that's OU.
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: No, remember, I predicted OU was an upset at the beginning of the year before everyone knew that OU was gonna be buns.
- 29:48SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, I I still look at OU and I'm scared.
- 29:51SPEAKER_06: I mean, we haven't beaten them in 10 years, so like yeah, it's it's the logo, it's intimidating, it's and I mean it's the record too.
- 29:58SPEAKER_04: It's just like I said, I yeah, I don't ever since you and I have been fully enveloped in this fan base, we haven't seen us beat OU.
- 30:05SPEAKER_04: So that that sucks.
- 30:07SPEAKER_04: Hopefully that that turns around.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: And uh, but I'm with you, man.
- 30:10SPEAKER_04: Like, like it's like you and I were saying, we see a lot of W's left on the schedule, but like I also think six and six could be realistic as well.
- 30:17SPEAKER_04: I do.
- 30:18SPEAKER_04: So hopefully uh we are wrong there, and hopefully we lock down and protect the Jones.
- 30:23SPEAKER_06: I think six and six, I'll give you a hot take.
- 30:26SPEAKER_06: I think six and six is more likely to be your floor than anything going into the rest of the season because I think I can agree with that.
- 30:36SPEAKER_06: I I genuinely believe we can go five and one or six and oh ten this year, and I don't know if that makes me a homer or whatever, but well, you are yeah, well, I am.
- 30:46SPEAKER_04: Well, you have never denied that.
- 30:47SPEAKER_04: This is but a Texas Tech podcast.
- 30:49SPEAKER_04: We don't have to pretend not to be homers, yeah, for sure.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: Uh TCU's obviously gonna be a really difficult game, they're a really good team.
- 30:57SPEAKER_06: Um, and OU is very fiery when Dylan Gabriel is there.
- 31:01SPEAKER_06: Iowa State's got a good defense despite being 0-4 in the Big 12.
- 31:05SPEAKER_06: They have been competitive in every single game.
- 31:07SPEAKER_06: Kansas has surprised a lot of people.
- 31:10SPEAKER_06: Baylor's up and down, you know, West Virginia's up and down.
- 31:13SPEAKER_06: So yeah, that could be a hot take, but I really genuinely believe this team at Texas Tech, if we rally like we should around a head coach like Joey McGuire, I think you have a good chance at finishing five and one of the year.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: Dude, I mean, and that would put us at eight wins in the regular season.
- 31:32SPEAKER_04: When was the last time that happened?
- 31:34SPEAKER_04: I cannot recall.
- 31:35SPEAKER_04: I think it was probably what?
- 31:36SPEAKER_04: Or did Cliff Kingsbury win eight with eight games in 20?
- 31:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because he started he started seven and oh, didn't he?
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: And then he oh, but did he did he win any other games after that in season?
- 31:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he won the bowl game, but that's not in season because we then we could theoretically win nine.
- 31:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so it was yeah, so it was Tupperville last time we won't last games.
- 31:58SPEAKER_04: That's a gut punch.
- 32:00SPEAKER_04: Last time we won eight.
- 32:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, new era.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: It's a new page, baby.
- 32:05SPEAKER_04: It's a new page.
- 32:06SPEAKER_04: You know, when we're looking at this the schedule and we were talking about like kind of getting nabbing at those W's, you know, whenever we whenever we look at our L's, we've lost our hardest games.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: We have like we've lost the games we're not supposed to win on the road in these ranked tough environments, and and of all the last hard ranked tough environments to be in, I will put Texas Tech in TCU any freaking day.
- 32:30SPEAKER_04: If I'm if that's our last ranked road game, it's gonna be a shame when we hand TCU their first L of the season.
- 32:37SPEAKER_04: That would be real shame to give uh give uh uh Sonny Dykes get his first L as a head coach at TCU by his alma mater.
- 32:44SPEAKER_04: That'd be pretty good.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: That'd be pretty zesty.
- 32:46SPEAKER_06: That would be good.
- 32:47SPEAKER_06: Uh yeah, we'll look forward to that one here in a few weeks.
- 32:50SPEAKER_06: Uh, West Virginia is obviously up next, so hopefully we pull that out and win a game.
- 32:55SPEAKER_06: We should.
- 32:55SPEAKER_06: Uh, again, that game is at two o'clock on Fox Sports One.
- 33:00SPEAKER_04: We're getting hot looking ahead here.
- 33:02SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 33:03SPEAKER_06: Look at us.
- 33:04SPEAKER_06: Look at us.
- 33:04SPEAKER_06: We haven't well, we haven't had football in a while.
- 33:06SPEAKER_06: So we're gonna go.
- 33:06SPEAKER_04: Hey, and and also think about think about where we would be like the last couple seasons on this podcast.
- 33:11SPEAKER_04: Like, what would the attitude be right now?
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: Be like, basketball's almost here, folks.
- 33:15SPEAKER_04: Like, isn't that kind of what we'd be doing right now?
- 33:17SPEAKER_06: That is a great transition to Texas Tech basketball.
- 33:23SPEAKER_06: We are gonna get you a whole basketball preview coming up here soon.
- 33:27SPEAKER_06: But uh, as of today, Texas the AP poll came out, the preseason one that they do every year.
- 33:33SPEAKER_06: Um, Texas Tech ranked at 25.
- 33:38SPEAKER_06: Um, this is I think this is accurate.
- 33:42SPEAKER_06: I would have been fine if we were not ranked in the in the preseason poll because of course Texas Tech every single year has a ton of turnover with their basketball team.
- 33:51SPEAKER_06: We just do.
- 33:51SPEAKER_06: We were we have to replace three starters every single year at least.
- 33:55SPEAKER_04: It's also the sport now, yeah.
- 33:57SPEAKER_06: And that and it is, it's the sport now.
- 33:59SPEAKER_06: And uh, but you look at this basketball team losing Bryson Williams, Adonis Arms, Kevin McCullough, Terrence Shannon, you know, uh Damion Warren, you're losing a lot, losing a lot of uh of talent and of contributors from last year's team.
- 34:14SPEAKER_06: You have a very, very new look Texas Tech team in terms of the roster.
- 34:19SPEAKER_06: Um, and you know, you're given you're given a preseason ranking, which I think is a testament to Mark Adams and a testament to what this what this team has been over the last few years.
- 34:31SPEAKER_06: So uh, you know, you're happy to be ranked.
- 34:34SPEAKER_06: Um, I don't know if we're undeserving, if we're properly deserving, if uh, you know, I don't know about all that, but I all I know is that Texas Tech basketball plays a lot better when they are undervalued and overlooked, um, and they play like street dogs.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: So number 25, I think, still falls in that category, though.
- 34:55SPEAKER_06: A little bit.
- 34:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, you're still ranked, and you know, guys like Pop Isaacs and Elijah Fisher are gonna look at that and be like, oh, we're ranked, let's go.
- 35:03SPEAKER_06: When, you know, it could be more of a, you know, you're it's just the preseason rankings don't matter.
- 35:09SPEAKER_06: They don't they don't matter.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: Hey, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on.
- 35:13SPEAKER_04: Pre-season rankings do not matter unless Texas Tech is ranked, and then they're perfectly legitimate, okay, very valid form of ranking.
- 35:21SPEAKER_06: Good point, good point.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: I just wanted to make sure that was clear.
- 35:25SPEAKER_06: The AP poll did not mess up this year.
- 35:28SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech ranked.
- 35:31SPEAKER_04: Cheers to that, man.
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: And it's it's it's pretty exciting.
- 35:33SPEAKER_04: Like you said, it's a testament to Mark Adams.
- 35:35SPEAKER_04: This is year two, and they're already ranking his team.
- 35:37SPEAKER_04: That's how much uh they trust his uh his process.
- 35:39SPEAKER_04: And we do too, man.
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: And I'm really excited about what's coming this season.
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: And it's kind of great that you know we have that on the horizon, but it's it's good to not be checked out of football yet either.
- 35:49SPEAKER_04: So it's it's a good time for tech athletics.
- 35:52SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, we're definitely definitely in a good spot.
- 35:54SPEAKER_06: There's still a lot to be uh happy about, a lot to be uh hopeful about when it comes to these two sports.
- 36:00SPEAKER_06: Uh, I did put out a tweet today.
- 36:03SPEAKER_06: Uh the last, I don't know, six preseason AP top 25 polls for basketball, Texas Tech.
- 36:10SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, we've been unranked in three of the last six.
- 36:16SPEAKER_06: And all of those times we made it to the Sweet 16 or further.
- 36:20SPEAKER_06: So, you know, again, preseason polls don't matter.
- 36:23SPEAKER_06: It's not worth getting mad at unless we're ranked.
- 36:26SPEAKER_06: Unless we're ranked, of course.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 36:28SPEAKER_04: Very valid.
- 36:29SPEAKER_04: You're welcome.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: Then they're very wise voters.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: Look forward, very handsome.
- 36:36SPEAKER_06: Look forward, except for Don Williams, apparently.
- 36:38SPEAKER_06: Uh, according to have you seen his mentions?
- 36:41SPEAKER_04: Dude, they've been all over him this season.
- 36:43SPEAKER_06: I've been railing him.
- 36:45SPEAKER_04: I and what always makes me chuckle is oh, and look, he's the Texas tech contributor.
- 36:50SPEAKER_04: Like, that means anything, dude.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: What?
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: Well, you think this is the fans doing a fan poll or something?
- 36:57SPEAKER_04: Give me a break.
- 36:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I haven't always agreed.
- 37:07SPEAKER_06: Not Don Williams.
- 37:08SPEAKER_05: So he is clapping back, and I absolutely had been enjoying the heck out of him clapping back at random people on Twitter.
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: A lot of them being Texas Tech fans.
- 37:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_06: Coming at and be like, why are you ranking TCU very high?
- 37:21SPEAKER_06: It's like, dude, I don't think they're that good.
- 37:25SPEAKER_06: What do you want from me?
- 37:26SPEAKER_04: I'm just doing my job.
- 37:28SPEAKER_04: Just doing my job.
- 37:28SPEAKER_04: I love it, Don.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: We're here for you, bud.
- 37:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: I know you listen to this.
- 37:32SPEAKER_05: Shouts out Don Williams.
- 37:34SPEAKER_06: Um, all right.
- 37:37SPEAKER_06: You come and listen to the Talk and Tech podcast for uh Texas Tech Sports information.
- 37:43SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, hopefully uh to hear some stupid takes and uh listen to us just ramble on about Texas Tech Sports.
- 37:51SPEAKER_06: Um, but you, Tristan, have started a Twitter war uh the last couple times.
- 37:59SPEAKER_06: You've been out for blood, uh spitting out some hot takes recently about things not related to Texas Tech Sports.
- 38:05SPEAKER_06: And I'm giving you your platform right now to explain your reasoning uh that pissed off a lot of people about your Blink 182 take.
- 38:14SPEAKER_06: Um go ahead and and state your take first and then explain your reasoning.
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: All right, so I don't know if you call it a war, it's more of me just in a corner trying to beat people back.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: First of all, it's not like I got like my my allies.
- 38:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, you really you didn't have a lot of people on your side.
- 38:34SPEAKER_04: No, I had a few that I had a few real ones and shout outs to y'all that were but that were backing me up.
- 38:40SPEAKER_04: But all right, so my thesis about this whole thing is people act like that's right, this is a college educated podcast.
- 38:48SPEAKER_04: People act like that the blink 182 is parallel to the Beatles, and before you go, oh come on, it's true, people really do treat them like the Beatles.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: They they everything they everything they make is gold, they are perfect in every way.
- 39:05SPEAKER_04: Anytime they go on tour, it sells out bonkers.
- 39:08SPEAKER_04: People jump on Twitter, people when they say maybe they're not that good, you know.
- 39:11SPEAKER_04: So people cannot stand that, just like the Beatles, they act exactly the same as Beatle fans do.
- 39:18SPEAKER_04: They do, there's no difference, and it's just not true, guys.
- 39:22SPEAKER_04: Like, it's okay.
- 39:24SPEAKER_04: Here's the thing it is sugary nostalgia juice, all right.
- 39:28SPEAKER_04: This is music you liked as a teenager, and this is the only reason why you like them as much as you do.
- 39:34SPEAKER_04: If you heard them as a 30-year-old, like you are now, okay, you're not a teenager anymore.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: You'd be like, Oh, this is not very good, this is kind of bad, you know.
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: But if I'm not doubting their ability as musicians whatsoever.
- 39:47SPEAKER_04: Yes, they can rock out, they're rockers, yes, they are, but it's it's that's all all it is at the end of the day is pop music.
- 39:54SPEAKER_04: And no, it is pop music, okay?
- 39:56SPEAKER_04: This is not rebellious against the grain, underground radio.
- 40:01SPEAKER_04: No, this is played on mainstream radio, this is pop music, okay?
- 40:05SPEAKER_04: So it's it's not intelligent, it is just fun music, and if you listen to the lyrics and all these songs, it's like, yeah, this is written by a teenager, it's gross, it's crude, and it's immature, and it's fine to have fun with.
- 40:18SPEAKER_04: What I compare a band like Blink 182 to is like, all right, y'all know me.
- 40:22SPEAKER_04: I'm really into country music, but not really, you know, mainstream country music.
- 40:25SPEAKER_04: I'm not, I'm not I could be pretentious about it, yes, but I don't I don't go out of my way to be that way.
- 40:30SPEAKER_04: Um I listen to my Americana, red dirt, and all that.
- 40:34SPEAKER_04: But whenever I'm having fun and just in the mood for a sugary fix, I will absolutely jam to some mainstream country music.
- 40:43SPEAKER_04: It's dumb, but it's fun.
- 40:45SPEAKER_04: And that's exactly what Blink 182 is.
- 40:47SPEAKER_04: Stop treating them like artists, they're just you know, they're just sugary soda is the best way for me to put it.
- 40:55SPEAKER_04: And I really think the whole parallel to the Beatles thing is 100% true, only they're way worse.
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: And it's not like I listen to the Beatles either.
- 41:01SPEAKER_06: I was about to say, you're not a Beatles fan either.
- 41:04SPEAKER_06: You know, I'm not.
- 41:05SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I I don't listen to them either.
- 41:07SPEAKER_06: No.
- 41:08SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 41:09SPEAKER_06: Um okay.
- 41:11SPEAKER_06: I guess I'll first off, the people that are gonna argue with you on Blink 182 are in the 28 to 35 age range because those were primarily the ones that grew up listening to Blink 182 and being angsty teenagers at the time and being upset at their parents.
- 41:26SPEAKER_06: And I understand that.
- 41:28SPEAKER_06: I think the nostalgia factor in not only music but movies and TV shows and everything like that is an effect on things, and I don't think that's a bad thing that you listen to that music or watch that TV show or watch that movie and you like and remember those sort of times in your life because there's memories that go with it that are good and fun, wherever I have an issue with your take is that you still enjoy some of the stuff that you listen to as an AC teenager, aka Fallout Boy, or Angels and Airwaves, and you like that stuff, and you don't say they're overrated, but you do say that Blink 182 is overrated.
- 42:16SPEAKER_04: But catch me listening to them on like a daily, on like I I would never throw them on whenever I'm just chilling, wanting to listen to my music.
- 42:24SPEAKER_04: I'll throw them on when I want a sugary fix.
- 42:26SPEAKER_04: Yes, okay.
- 42:27SPEAKER_04: You know, I usually after a few drinks, you know, it's never whenever I'm in my car driving somewhere, it's never me throwing on a vinyl record, I don't have them.
- 42:37SPEAKER_04: You know, it's it is absolutely for a sugary fix.
- 42:41SPEAKER_04: And I'm saying, I'm not saying that, you know, Fallout Boy and all that is is is a smarter band, though I do think maybe they are at the hot take, but but it's again, it's just sugary music, man.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: It's they're not saying a lot, but no pop music really is at the end of the day.
- 42:56SPEAKER_04: And my whole tweet was is they're overrated.
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: People treat them like they're they're Harbingers like the Beatles that changed everything.
- 43:04SPEAKER_04: Well, no, they really didn't.
- 43:05SPEAKER_04: Like, sure, they were the kings of punk pop ro punk or whatever, but that genre as a whole isn't really around anymore, or at least not nearly in the same force as it was in the 2000s.
- 43:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's it's just tran it's changed, it's not so much like rock is so transformative, like that.
- 43:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the Blink 182.
- 43:25SPEAKER_06: I think a lot of people we're not musicians by any means, we don't play instruments, so we don't know like you know what goes into stuff.
- 43:31SPEAKER_06: A lot of people like you know, Travis Parker think he's one of the best drummers of all time.
- 43:35SPEAKER_06: I don't know anything about that.
- 43:37SPEAKER_06: I'm uh from listening to it, I you know, I can see that he's he drums really quickly and really good.
- 43:42SPEAKER_06: And uh, you know, apparently some of those uh, you know, guitarists are really good at what they do.
- 43:47SPEAKER_06: I'm sure they are.
- 43:48SPEAKER_06: Um, I'm not I'm not the biggest Blink fan, but I enjoy their music.
- 43:54SPEAKER_06: Um I yeah, you don't what you are really saying is you don't hate Blink 182.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: You just don't love them like a lot of people in our age group duh do.
- 44:06SPEAKER_04: I don't get the hype, I think, is that what I think at the end of the day.
- 44:09SPEAKER_04: And obviously, you know, everyone it takes in and enjoys and consumes music in a different way.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: And I'm not saying my ways better, uh, but I am pointing out that I think there's a lot of rose glasses going on with Blink 182.
- 44:22SPEAKER_04: And you know how you're saying you were listening to we're really directing this directing this at the 28 to 35 range.
- 44:27SPEAKER_04: We are slightly outside of that age context.
- 44:30SPEAKER_06: I didn't I didn't really grow up listening to a lot of Blink 182.
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: It might my I'm my brother Austin was a huge fan, still, I guess, is.
- 44:38SPEAKER_06: Um, I think Austin wanted to actually punch you in the face during your bachelor party, but we had this same debate, yeah.
- 44:45SPEAKER_04: So it thinks opinions were shared about Blink 182, and whenever they went on, whenever they did this announcement, everyone was losing their mind on Twitter.
- 44:52SPEAKER_04: It just kind of re-sparked my they are so overrated, and I I still think they are.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: I do.
- 44:58SPEAKER_04: And it's just if you want to say, like, what would you compare them to now?
- 45:02SPEAKER_06: When when you when you threw the of all time, that's what pisses people.
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: I didn't say of all time, I said this century.
- 45:09SPEAKER_04: I said the century, most overrated band of the century.
- 45:12SPEAKER_06: This century of all time.
- 45:13SPEAKER_06: I think that's that's a lot of stuff.
- 45:14SPEAKER_06: That's a lot of stuff.
- 45:15SPEAKER_04: So, well, there's a whole lot of rock bands before this century, like the golden age of rock is that is probably the 1900s.
- 45:22SPEAKER_06: I gotta look at receipts because I'm pretty sure you said of all time.
- 45:25SPEAKER_04: Nah, I said this century.
- 45:26SPEAKER_06: Hold on, we're looking at receipts here.
- 45:29SPEAKER_04: Not saying that rock music's just but out bad.
- 45:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, you did say okay, you did say this century.
- 45:33SPEAKER_06: Okay, yeah.
- 45:34SPEAKER_06: What is what is this century since 2000?
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: 2000 and up.
- 45:37SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 45:38SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 45:39SPEAKER_06: That okay, that might be fair.
- 45:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, uh that might be fair.
- 45:43SPEAKER_04: Rock music obviously isn't what it used to be either.
- 45:45SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's not, it's not, it doesn't dominate pop music anymore like it used to.
- 45:49SPEAKER_04: Like rock music used to be the main form of pop music, now it's rap and hip-hop.
- 45:54SPEAKER_04: So rock rock has really taken a back seat.
- 45:56SPEAKER_04: So there's not a whole lot of competition for most overrated band this century.
- 46:01SPEAKER_04: There's it's a pretty short list, and I think blink 182 is at the top.
- 46:05SPEAKER_04: I think they're just cashing it on nostalgia at this point.
- 46:07SPEAKER_04: I don't think they're really saying anything intelligent, personally.
- 46:10SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 46:11SPEAKER_06: So you're saying bands are all better than Blink 182.
- 46:18SPEAKER_06: Green Day.
- 46:19SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 46:19SPEAKER_06: Lincoln Park.
- 46:21SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 46:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:23SPEAKER_05: Oh, you're you don't like Lincoln Park, do you?
- 46:25SPEAKER_05: They're okay.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: They're okay.
- 46:27SPEAKER_06: I think Lincoln Park's got some bangers.
- 46:29SPEAKER_06: Fallout Boy, you like them more.
- 46:31SPEAKER_06: I like them.
- 46:31SPEAKER_06: Uh Red Hot Chili Peppers, they kind of count.
- 46:35SPEAKER_06: I know they're more they're nicer.
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: They're older than Blink.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, they are, but that's even further outside of my scope.
- 46:41SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 46:42SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, now we're getting into like killers and uh yeah, the killers, imagine dragons, fighters, uh dragons, Arctic monkeys, yeah, Kings of Leon.
- 46:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but none of them are in the same stratosphere as Blink 182.
- 46:59SPEAKER_04: Maybe maybe Lincoln Park, probably Imagine Dragons at one point too, but I mean Fallout Boy.
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: Fallout boy, Green Day, of course, Green Day, crap, yes, green day, yes.
- 47:07SPEAKER_04: Green Day's probably the biggest band of the century, but um rock band of the century.
- 47:12SPEAKER_04: And I don't think they're the most overrated.
- 47:13SPEAKER_04: I think Blink 182 is.
- 47:15SPEAKER_06: Who do you think is the most overrated rock band of all time?
- 47:18SPEAKER_04: Of all time?
- 47:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'd probably just go ahead and stick with Blink 182.
- 47:22SPEAKER_04: I don't I don't know enough about the Beatles to just throw that Molotov cocktail, but it's I'm gonna stick with this beehive and just keep kicking it.
- 47:30SPEAKER_04: Blink 182.
- 47:32SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 47:33SPEAKER_06: See, I would I would probably say of all time I put Pink Floyd up there as as one of the most overrated, and I put Nirvana up there.
- 47:40SPEAKER_06: Um I haven't there's some Pink Pink Floyd songs that I enjoy, but it's mostly just hey, let's get high and let's listen to this.
- 47:49SPEAKER_06: And for me, that's not like the type of music that I enjoy listening to all the time.
- 47:54SPEAKER_06: Um, and Nirvana, you know, it's because it's because Kirk Cobain died.
- 48:00SPEAKER_06: That's that's why they're so big.
- 48:01SPEAKER_06: They have a couple good songs, but again, they weren't around long enough, first off.
- 48:06SPEAKER_06: Uh, and it's because it's the same thing as when like an artist, like a like a painter dies and all this stuff, you know, sells better because of that.
- 48:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: No, that's absolutely I think that's absolutely true about Nirvana.
- 48:18SPEAKER_04: Um, and it's probably a little unfair for me to just sit here throwing lobbing bombs.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: I'm in general not a very big rock and roll fan.
- 48:26SPEAKER_04: I'm not.
- 48:27SPEAKER_05: You're kidding.
- 48:28SPEAKER_04: I'm not, and it's you know, I I used to be much more into it whenever I was a teenager, and I'm just not into it anymore.
- 48:35SPEAKER_04: I just it's and I and I don't, and even the old stuff, I just don't know enough about it.
- 48:40SPEAKER_06: And you're telling all of you're telling everybody to just grow up.
- 48:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, grow up and and listen to my music because it's better, okay.
- 48:50SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, it's just you know, I I know I know a lot more about country music and stuff, and I'm not saying I'm an expert, but if I know, I do like rock music, but I like soft rock.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: Like I love John Mayer, you know, like old Maroon 5 stuff, and just that kind of zone.
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: I prefer the softer stuff than the more rock and true rock and roll.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: Who's the most overrated blues country?
- 49:11SPEAKER_06: Who's the most overrated country artists?
- 49:13SPEAKER_04: Most overrated country artists, uh what, the century or all yeah, let's just say the century.
- 49:19SPEAKER_06: This century make it easier.
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: It's kind of hard to say.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: Um, because you could probably go for an easy one like Luke Bryan or Florida Georgia line or something, yeah.
- 49:30SPEAKER_06: But like stuff you listen to, or stuff that like I don't I don't know.
- 49:34SPEAKER_06: I don't know how I'm trying to ask this question.
- 49:36SPEAKER_06: Um, I mean, yeah, like the something that's not bro pop country.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: Okay, something that's not bro pop country.
- 49:42SPEAKER_04: Um, I tell you a guy I haven't been able to get into, and I really hope I don't just enrage the audience further.
- 49:50SPEAKER_04: Zach Bryan.
- 49:51SPEAKER_04: Like, I I've tried over and over again, and I'm just not feeling it.
- 49:55SPEAKER_04: And he's so he's he's like the big thing right now in all country, and I'm having a hard time getting there, but just flat out say he's the most overrated of all time is tough too, because you know, he's probably not.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: It's just he's just not really me right now.
- 50:09SPEAKER_04: Maybe Garth Brooks.
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: Wow, Garth Brooks is the most overrated country musician of all time, Garth, like of Brooks, or yeah, or at least it's I mean, because it's easy to pick and prod at Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean and stuff, but because you know they're bro country, but yeah, I mean, Garth Brooks gets a lot of hype for a tiny catalog.
- 50:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, he just stopped, and he's never he's tried to get back into it and he's been unable to, and I think that says something.
- 50:35SPEAKER_04: I don't think he's got it anymore.
- 50:36SPEAKER_04: And when he said he's got he's got uh, you know, friends in low places, I'll always be one of the greatest drinking songs of all time, but he's got he's got a great catalog, don't be getting me wrong, but people put him up there as like a rival to George Strait, and I just cannot get there.
- 50:51SPEAKER_04: So Garth Brooks, put me in for Garth Brooks.
- 50:54SPEAKER_06: Willie Nelson?
- 50:55SPEAKER_06: No, I mean that's mine.
- 50:58SPEAKER_06: That's that's possible.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: You see, oh, you think so?
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: Wow, this this segment is really kind of going.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: We're gonna piss off a lot of people.
- 51:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this is just uh we're losing some listeners here.
- 51:07SPEAKER_04: Willie Nelson, really.
- 51:08SPEAKER_06: I I enjoy Willie Nelson.
- 51:10SPEAKER_06: I don't think he should be up there with Johnny Cash and George Strait and all those guys.
- 51:16SPEAKER_06: He's put up there on a pedestal with Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, all those guys.
- 51:19SPEAKER_06: Willie Nelson is not as good as those guys.
- 51:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he's just not.
- 51:23SPEAKER_06: He's got some solid, I mean, obviously, on the road again, you know, all these great songs, but it it's not the same when you look at the entire discography of the other top country artists that are put on that pedestal as all timers, in my opinion.
- 51:37SPEAKER_04: I think that's fair.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: And he you know, he's he's a great like storyteller, he's got that like kind of a around the campfire vibe, yeah.
- 51:45SPEAKER_04: But I really think that's all he's got.
- 51:47SPEAKER_04: He does not have the voice, you know.
- 51:49SPEAKER_04: He he does not have the voice to carry him to start him like a George Strait.
- 51:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, George Strait's all boys, so and it's it's just I think I'm with you there.
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: I think he's probably a little overrated as a true talent, but for what he is, I I don't think he's you know all that overrated because you know, I think he has some real like true loyal fans, but I think a lot of people just say he likes him because he's cool, yeah.
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Like he's a cool guy to like, you know, he spoke Swed Man, he's A man, that's cool.
- 52:18SPEAKER_04: So I think there's a lot of that going on with Billy Nelson.
- 52:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think so too.
- 52:23SPEAKER_06: Um, if if uh if the Beehive gets a hold of this, Beyonce's the most overrated artist of all time.
- 52:29SPEAKER_06: And we oh my god, we are just going crazy right now.
- 52:33SPEAKER_06: If if the beehive gets a hold of this episode, they're coming after us and they're shutting us down.
- 52:36SPEAKER_04: No, we were kicking a lot of beehives, and I like the play on words we're doing with this one too.
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: So Beyonce stinks.
- 52:43SPEAKER_04: I I don't get it either.
- 52:44SPEAKER_04: I don't get it either.
- 52:45SPEAKER_04: I can't name more than three songs, and obviously you can make the argument that I'm just not listening to it enough, but and it's not, yeah, her music is not catered towards me.
- 52:52SPEAKER_06: I understand that, but yes, she's also a freaking superstar, and I don't get it.
- 52:57SPEAKER_04: She's hot and she's good at dancing.
- 52:59SPEAKER_04: I think that's kind of the the whole thing there.
- 53:01SPEAKER_04: She's like, she's got this like swagger.
- 53:03SPEAKER_06: Rihanna's better, you know, Taylor Swift's better, all these like big pop stars, you know.
- 53:10SPEAKER_06: I even think I like Katy Perry's music better than I like Beyonce's music, and I don't know.
- 53:15SPEAKER_06: I it's just not it's not appealing.
- 53:19SPEAKER_04: They do, they do.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: I think it's it's like it's like a cult of personality thing with Beyonce, yeah.
- 53:24SPEAKER_04: More than anything, yeah, definitely.
- 53:26SPEAKER_06: And you definitely have uh some Blink stands out there as well.
- 53:29SPEAKER_06: Uh I'm uh I I won't agree that Blink is the most overrated of the century, but uh I I understand what you're saying.
- 53:39SPEAKER_04: So let's let's let's say let's let's run it down.
- 53:41SPEAKER_04: Tristan's most overrated band of the century was Blink 12, Tristan's most overrated country artist, Garth Brooks.
- 53:48SPEAKER_04: That was an artillery show.
- 53:50SPEAKER_04: Holy yikes! I just couldn't think of anyone else that fit the pill that like really fit the pill.
- 53:55SPEAKER_06: This is overrated.
- 53:56SPEAKER_06: We're not saying they're bad.
- 53:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that thank you.
- 53:58SPEAKER_04: Thank you for clarifying.
- 53:59SPEAKER_06: We're saying they're overrated.
- 54:01SPEAKER_04: Yes, yes, so I so I think it's got again.
- 54:04SPEAKER_04: I think Garth Brooks has like a Beyoncé thing going for him.
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: Like he's an entertainer, like he sells out stadiums, and they're probably awesome shows, and that's part of it too.
- 54:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but he's just playing his old hits.
- 54:14SPEAKER_04: Maybe Madonna anything this century.
- 54:17SPEAKER_06: Maybe Madonna's the most overrated of all time because she's one of those that's an entertainer, she like her music, it's not great, yeah.
- 54:25SPEAKER_06: Just she's Madonna and she's this presence, you know.
- 54:28SPEAKER_06: But okay, I think we pissed the people off enough.
- 54:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think this uh whoa.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, I get my my song of the week is another piss them off, too.
- 54:37SPEAKER_04: So here we go.
- 54:39SPEAKER_04: Straight old bitch roll going on right now.
- 54:41SPEAKER_06: Let's bring it on before we do that.
- 54:44SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech does play West Virginia, two o'clock, Fox Sports One.
- 54:49SPEAKER_06: We hope Baron Morton starts and we hope it's a great game and we all enjoy it.
- 54:52SPEAKER_04: It might have been our most off-topic episode during a season.
- 54:55SPEAKER_06: It was fun, though.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: It's fun too.
- 54:56SPEAKER_06: It was fun.
- 54:57SPEAKER_06: It was fun.
- 54:57SPEAKER_06: Uh, okay, go ahead.
- 54:58SPEAKER_06: Your song of the week.
- 54:59SPEAKER_04: So, my song of the week is a band that features a Blink 182 member, Tom DeLong.
- 55:05SPEAKER_04: I think that's how you say it.
- 55:06SPEAKER_04: Um, Angels and Airwaves.
- 55:09SPEAKER_04: I think Angels and Airwaves is a way better band than Blink 182, and that's gonna piss off people, people are already mad, but that's really gonna like light people on fire.
- 55:18SPEAKER_04: I think Angels and Airwaves is way better than Blink 182, because I think it's a much more adventurous band, a much more creative band, and uh, and it's not all like, oh, we're teenage dating man.
- 55:28SPEAKER_04: Like it's it's it's actually, you know, a little, it's weird, but it's still fun, and it's not about high school all the time, or you know, so yeah, I'm gonna go with Everything's Magic, their poppiest, funnest sugary drink song.
- 55:43SPEAKER_04: Everything's magic.
- 55:45SPEAKER_04: It's it's a silly, simple song, but whenever I need that nostalgia, sugary fix, like people listening to Blink Win A2, I'll turn it on.
- 56:01SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 56:03SPEAKER_06: Um breaking news.
- 56:05SPEAKER_06: Uh, I have received a DM from our good buddy, Joe Goodman.
- 56:10SPEAKER_06: Uh, and he said, Can I ask a favor?
- 56:12SPEAKER_06: And they said, What's up, man?
- 56:13SPEAKER_06: And he says, uh, don't tell Tristan, but uh, I want a guest song of the week, and it is all the small things by Blink 1822.
- 56:20SPEAKER_05: No way! You're kidding me.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: So, yeah, so uh guest here you go, Joe.
- 56:25SPEAKER_05: Here's your song of the week, all the small things, blink 182.
- 56:31SPEAKER_07: I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me on all the small things, truth care, truth freaks.
- 56:47SPEAKER_04: No, see, this is the greatest band of our time.
- 56:51SPEAKER_05: You don't get it, dude.
- 56:53SPEAKER_05: I this is funny because I was also planning on doing a Blink 182 song for my song of the week.
- 57:01SPEAKER_04: Freaking do it.
- 57:03SPEAKER_05: My song of the week is first date.
- 57:05SPEAKER_05: Oh, I'll see you all doing that.
- 57:07SPEAKER_05: It's a great song.
- 57:08SPEAKER_06: That's their best song, it's one of their best ones, and I haven't I I will say I haven't listened to a ton of Blink 182 in my life.
- 57:16SPEAKER_06: It's not one of the bands that has really like you know gotten me uh as a as a huge fan, but um no, I I enjoy this one.
- 57:24SPEAKER_06: First date, Blink 182.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: Let's go, don't win.
- 57:32SPEAKER_03: On it, let's make man.
- 57:39SPEAKER_04: A lot of sugary pop is being drank right now.
- 57:41SPEAKER_04: I tell you what, dude.
- 57:43SPEAKER_04: That is I that is their best song.
- 57:45SPEAKER_04: All right, it's a sugary fun song, just like everything's magic, just like all the small things.
- 57:50SPEAKER_04: Jeez.
- 57:53SPEAKER_04: Overrated, not true.
- 57:55SPEAKER_06: 2004 teenager is going absolutely nuts right now.
- 57:59SPEAKER_04: I know he hates me.
- 58:00SPEAKER_06: These guys get it.
- 58:01SPEAKER_06: My parents absolutely suck.
- 58:08SPEAKER_04: This teenage relationship is everything.
- 58:10SPEAKER_06: Yes, tell you what this will be the rest of my life, is what I care about at 16 years old dating this girl.
- 58:17SPEAKER_04: Uh no that's the beauty of it.
- 58:19SPEAKER_06: That's the beauty of Blink 182.
- 58:21SPEAKER_06: But man, this was a fun episode.
- 58:23SPEAKER_06: It was off probably everybody in the world at this point uh about our overrated music artist picks, but had a lot of fun doing it.
- 58:32SPEAKER_06: Do you have anything else to say to the people?
- 58:35SPEAKER_04: I didn't say they're trash, I said they're overrated.
- 58:40SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's I'm glad you cleared it up because uh people really took that as you saying Blink 182 is the worst band of all time, and I hate everything about everything about them.
- 58:51SPEAKER_06: So uh yeah, no, we didn't say that.
- 58:54SPEAKER_06: Just overrated.
