- 0:00You know, all year we like to be able to give back with our
- 0:02big ninety eight point seven Christmas wish, but especially this time of year,
- 0:05Amanda, we like to ramp it up because it's just the season of giving
- 0:08for sure. Yes, And we have a very special girl we're about to
- 0:12speak to. Her name is Addison and she's only ten years old, fifth
- 0:15grade. In a year ago, she found out some very difficult news and
- 0:19she's been battling ever since. So we have her mom, Lindsay, on
- 0:22the phone right now. Good morning, Lindsay, how are you hello?
- 0:25So we want to chat with you and of course your daughter Addison, who
- 0:28we're going to talk to here in a second. But can you tell us
- 0:31sort of what your family's gone through over this last year? So I'm Christmas
- 0:36Eve. Last year, Addison developed a really bad headache and we couldn't control
- 0:41it with ivy profin or tylenol, so we decided to bring her in to
- 0:45the emergency room at Stanford Hospital in Bargol. They thought, you know what,
- 0:49something is off, so they did a scan on Addison and that's when
- 0:53our life truly just changed forever. They found a golf fall sized mass in
- 0:58her Sarahbellum and that's just when our journey in this new life began. Oh
- 1:03my gosh, So you're coming up on almost a year of this just horrific
- 1:07news that you receive and what has gone on over this past year. Yeah.
- 1:11So we then got admitted that evening on Christmas Eve at Samford Children's Hospital
- 1:17and Firego, that's when you found out it was on Christmas Eve. It
- 1:21was that evening. Yet. Oh so that's good. I mean, obviously
- 1:23there's no good day for it, but for Addison, who is obviously as
- 1:27a kid, just that just had to be the way we're siming for it.
- 1:30Yes, it was definitely challenging in so many ways. So then that
- 1:34evening we got admitted to Stamford Children's Hospital and on December twenty sixth she had
- 1:41brain surgery to remove the math and so that was, you know, a
- 1:46very challenging day, just so waiting and hoping and praying. But the surgery
- 1:51went well, and we're so thankful for the expert staff at Samford Children's Hospital
- 1:56and what they did for Addison and our family. This is really cool because
- 2:00Lindsay, you have Addison next to you, who I'm told really wanted to
- 2:04be able to share her story and what she's been going through and how she's
- 2:07been just battling over this last year. So, good morning, Addison.
- 2:09How are you? I'm doing good? Oh how old are you? Adison?
- 2:14I'm ten? Wow? Ten years now? Addison? Have you ever
- 2:16talked on the radio before? No, I haven't. Thank you so much
- 2:20for having your first time be with us. We're honored to be able to
- 2:23talk to you. Could you just kind of tell us how it's been going.
- 2:25I think it's been doing good. I've been to a lot of different
- 2:29places, like I've been to Stamford, I've been to Mayo. That's a
- 2:34lot of going for a little girl. Who what grade are you in?
- 2:38I'm What are some of your favorite things to do? I like to figure
- 2:40skate skate that's a fun one. I tried to get on skates recently and
- 2:46it's just you know, if you guys make it look so easy. I
- 2:50always follow on my butt. So what's your dream? Do you want to
- 2:53be an Olympic figure skater? What do you what do you hope to be?
- 2:55I want to be a nurse. I want to be an college here
- 2:59on Houlagy nurse. That is so amazing, and I'm sure that's probably because
- 3:02the time you've spent around so many nurses. Yes, oh, I'm sure
- 3:07it's become your second home when you're spending so much time with all of these
- 3:09nurses and doctors. Yes. Yeah. After we left Mayo, then we
- 3:14came back and now she's been doing the rest of her chemotherapy treatment at Roger
- 3:19May's Cancer Center and then Stamfreu Children's Hospitals. Addison is continuing on with treatment
- 3:23and we're hopeful maybe at the end of February twenty twenty four, she'll be
- 3:29done with her chemotherapy treatment and then we'll move on to just doing MRIs for
- 3:34the rest of Addison's life and just continuing doctoring and kind of going from there.
- 3:38We can only imagine Mom, how hard this has been financially on you
- 3:43guys, But ultimately, you know, as a parent, you do whatever
- 3:45you can for your kids. I keep thinking from the second you told us
- 3:47that last Christmas Eve, your life changed, and you're coming up on a
- 3:52year, and we just want to make sure that this Christmas is extra special
- 3:55for you guys. Through donations throughout the year, we would like to give
- 3:58you guys a gift of one thousand dollars. My goodness, thank you,
- 4:02thank you so much. Our family is so grateful. You know, a
- 4:06cancer diagnosis is just very financially overwhelming and hard for a family. But throughout
- 4:11this whole journey, we've just felt so supportive by family, friends, co
- 4:15workers, the community. I just feel people have wrapped their arms around us.
- 4:18We just truly have not left our side for this whole past year.
- 4:21And Addison, have you been feeling all that joy as well? Yes,
- 4:26you're such a warrior. You can just hear it in your voice, the
- 4:28joy you're bringing to the world and just keep fighting. Okay girl, thank
- 4:30you, yes, thank you. You're such a strong girl. Do you
- 4:33have anything you want to say to everybody listening to you and your story?
- 4:36Thank you for supporting our family.
