Transcript
- 0:00Happy Friday morning to everybody, John, Scotoni and
- 0:05myself. We've been drinking coffee all
- 0:07morning. John, where are we at?
- 0:10We're in Teormina, Italy, Sicily.
- 0:12Man, it is incredible here. Mount Etna is in the background.
- 0:18We were going to climb it today, but the weather's a little
- 0:23little iffy, so we're going to do it tomorrow.
- 0:25Let's do a quick 360 here everybody all right, the ocean
- 0:30in the background. Just incredible.
- 0:31Now this town we are in is probably the most famous town in
- 0:38all of Sicily. We are at a rooftop restaurant
- 0:42slash bar. But check out this.
- 0:45I mean, this is right out of the movies.
- 0:48Look at this, huh? Pretty incredible.
- 0:53OK, that was a quick little monologue.
- 0:55So today, well, we were driving last night, John and I said, you
- 1:00know what? John's Katoni is a very
- 1:04successful gentleman out of the North Side of Chicago.
- 1:08How many years ago did I meet you, You, you.
- 1:10Called I believe it was 20/12/2011 somewhere around
- 1:14there. How long have you been a NASCAR
- 1:16fan since? I was a kid.
- 1:18Since you were a kid. Since the 1980s, you.
- 1:20Love NASCAR and he knows his NASCAR.
- 1:24So probably five years ago, John Scotone said to me and this
- 1:31shocked me and and listen, this is embarrassing for me to say
- 1:34that it's truth. My hand on the Bible.
- 1:38John said, Kenny Wallace, you should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:42And I laughed and I cringed. I said absolutely not.
- 1:46So I'm setting the perimeters here and then John's going to I
- 1:50want to ask John some questions. And so, you know, 2 days ago,
- 1:55Dale Junior said, OK, the names for the Hall of Fame are coming
- 1:59up. They're getting ready to choose
- 2:00some Hall of Fame inductees or you know, talk for the Hall of
- 2:05Fame of this controversial decision.
- 2:08You know who to put in the Hall of Fame.
- 2:10Do you put in truck drivers that have won one championship?
- 2:13Do you put in Xfinity drivers that have won one championship
- 2:16and 30 races? OK, so you said now I'm going to
- 2:24say this. He said that I was wrong that it
- 2:28is the NASCAR Hall of Fame, all of NASCAR.
- 2:32So John, this is what good friends we are.
- 2:35We we disagree happily. We are like, oh, I disagree.
- 2:39I agree. All right, tell everybody your
- 2:42take on why you think I Kenny Wallace.
- 2:45Why should I be in the Hall of Fame all.
- 2:47Right. So everything I'm going to say,
- 2:49Kenny is not me as your friend, this is me as a lifelong fan of
- 2:56the sport cause I've been watching this sport since the
- 2:571980s and you have been involved in this sport since 1984.
- 3:04That's 42 years of high level involvement in one of the
- 3:09greatest sports in the world. As a crew chief, as a driver in
- 3:14all three series, as a nine time winner, as a three time most
- 3:19popular driver. He takes care of my money, so he
- 3:23knows his stats. He's not remembering this stuff.
- 3:27He just, he's that smart. 904 starts across all three series.
- 3:32That alone puts you in pretty rare air, right Kenny?
- 3:37You still hold the record As for the most starts in the Xfinity.
- 3:42Series. Yeah, I do 547.
- 3:45So I'm going to say something I agree.
- 3:48I agree Kenny with Dale Earnhardt Junior and you can't
- 3:52disagree with Dale Earnhardt junior and I know what Dale's
- 3:54thinking. Dale Earnhardt junior is
- 3:55thinking that Kenny Wallace stop it.
- 3:59Deserve. Stop it.
- 4:00In the NASCAR Hall of Fame and here's the argument like I mean
- 4:05Dale said it very well, it's not the Cup, NASCAR Cup Hall of
- 4:10Fame, it's not even the NASCAR winners Hall of Fame.
- 4:14It's the NASCAR Hall of Fame. And that means two things.
- 4:17First of all, NASCAR means the totality of NASCAR that's across
- 4:21all series. If they wanted to make it the
- 4:23Cup Hall of Fame, they would have said Cup Hall of Fame.
- 4:26And look at the the current inductees.
- 4:28It's not just drivers in the Cup level, it's crew chiefs, it's
- 4:32owners, it's broadcasters. And you've done it all.
- 4:35You've done, you've been an owner, but you've done you've
- 4:38done it all. You know, if I look at.
- 4:41Hey hold on, save your thought. I did own my red dog car at one
- 4:51entry for Richmond, so technically I was an owner for
- 4:54one race. Go ahead.
- 4:56Well, then you have Yeah and yeah, but go ahead.
- 5:00Fame. Let's talk about the fame part
- 5:02of Hall of Fame. To me, fame means the totality
- 5:06of your contribution to the sport and your legacy.
- 5:12How you'll be remembered for your contributions to the sport,
- 5:15not just by the fans, but by other competitors and
- 5:18participants in the sport 203040 years from now.
- 5:21Remember, you know, I said you've been involved for 42
- 5:23years. NASCAR was only in its 30s when
- 5:27you started as a crew chief in 1984.
- 5:31You've been involved in NASCAR at a high level for more than
- 5:34half of the existence of NASCAR. And when people think of NASCAR
- 5:37and remember you, they're going to remember you in 20-30. 40
- 5:42Will they? Will they remember my name more
- 5:46than it will Champions I? Think they will remember your
- 5:49name more than a lot of champions, but there are several
- 5:52I think there are several champions, one time champions,
- 5:55multiple race winners in cup that they will forget, but
- 5:59they'll remember you. I mean you're still here.
- 6:01There's, I mean you not only, not only, you know, not only
- 6:04were you a great driver and and. And that let me interrupt, let
- 6:07me OK. OK, a great driver.
- 6:09OK, first of all, nine wins in the Xfinity Series, Yeah.
- 6:13Don't discount what, what, what class that puts you in.
- 6:17There are only about 40 drivers in history that have won more
- 6:22than that in the Xfinity Series. How many drivers in the last 60
- 6:26years have started NASCAR races? Thousands.
- 6:29Thousands, right? There are only about 40 that
- 6:33have won more times than you in the Xfinity Series.
- 6:36So. Wow.
- 6:39OK, so I wanted to share with you what he's been telling me.
- 6:43And I'm like, John, stop it. And I'm embarrassed just
- 6:48because, you know, I just grew up in a different era, You know,
- 6:52my dad, Russ, born 1937, my brother Rusty, You know, we we
- 7:01we did everything the hard way because we're from Missouri.
- 7:03Nobody's ever good enough. I mean, and so when Dale Junior
- 7:07said that, you know, like the third lowest level, like the
- 7:10Truck Series, you know, if you're dominant in the Truck
- 7:13Series, you get to stand next to Richard Petty, you know, Dale
- 7:18Senior, Jimmie Johnson, I'm like, it just caught me off
- 7:20guard. I was like, that doesn't make
- 7:23sense to me. But you agree with Dale Junior?
- 7:26OK, let me let me take let me take this approach now.
- 7:33I, I saw this on the social media site X and I thought, hey,
- 7:37that's a good idea. What about now?
- 7:40You don't have to agree with me. What about if you get inducted
- 7:43into the NASCAR Hall of Fame and if you're inducted into the Cup
- 7:46Series, you get a gold jacket. Hear me out, a gold jacket.
- 7:52And then if you if you are, if you are in the Xfinity Series,
- 7:57which is considered the second best, you get like Kate, you
- 8:02know, a, a platinum and and then a bronze, something like that
- 8:06for the Truck Series. Is that far fetched?
- 8:10I think that's above my pay grade.
- 8:11But here's, but here's what I'll tell you.
- 8:13Here's what I'll tell you. I think you already stand next
- 8:16to those men. I mean, think about it.
- 8:18I've seen your phone. I know who you talk to.
- 8:21I know the people that call you when they need advice.
- 8:25I know the people that you can call and reach out to right now
- 8:29and and get advice or help from and they are some of the legends
- 8:33in this sport you already. Oh, God, this is hard.
- 8:37It's embarrassing as hell. OK, now listen.
- 8:41Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
- 8:43And. So we agree.
- 8:46We now agree with Dale Earnhardt Junior.
- 8:49He agrees, but this is his argument.
- 8:54Kenny. Wallace should be in the Hall of
- 8:56Fame. Wow, OK, so this is he is like
- 8:59minded with Dale Junior and I just once again I know I'm
- 9:03repeating myself. I just never in AI can guarantee
- 9:06you Rusty Wallace don't think like this or some of the I mean
- 9:12Richard Petty no way. Not to mention, not to mention
- 9:15you have created this powerhouse media company.
- 9:19Yeah, yeah. 01 more thing, one more thing.
- 9:23So talk about fame. The fame aspect of it, we are in
- 9:27PE, Arima, Italy, Sicily. It's a little island, middle of
- 9:30nowhere. We've been in Greece for the
- 9:33last five days. Kenny Wallace has worldwide
- 9:37reach. He has been recognized by fans.
- 9:40Stop. It.
- 9:41Obscure places. Sitting in a little cafe on a
- 9:46side street in Athens, a man walked up to us, said I want to
- 9:50meet you. He shook his hand.
- 9:51I, I, I I'm a huge fan in the in the bus on the way here.
- 9:55Oh, now I get it. You're saying Hall.
- 9:57I'm fame. Oh, hell, put me in the Hall of
- 10:03Fame. All right, everybody respond
- 10:07right here. Do you agree with John Scotone
- 10:12and Dale Junior? Hall of Fame?
- 10:14I guess it means every damn body.
