- 0:08All right, five minutes after the hour. It is the third and final
- 0:11hour of the Morning Show with Preston Scott. We are back with you.
- 0:16We planned to take Monday off and all I could say at the beginning of
- 0:21this program is sorry for what you heard. Didn't count on that being aired
- 0:26yesterday. I knew what was coming yesterday was not a plan day off though,
- 0:31just had a little family emergency and spent some time in the er on
- 0:34Monday night, not me personally, but with a loved one, and so
- 0:38that was just families first. And so the show just couldn't happen on Tuesday
- 0:43because I was unable to properly prepare for the show on Monday night. But
- 0:47we're back with you. Grant Allen over there in Studio one A. I'm
- 0:51here in Studio one B, and I am joined by Yes co founder of
- 0:57co host of Talent Outdoors, co founder of the Talent Training Group and Telling
- 1:00Range. He is Charlie Strickland. Hello, my friend, how are you?
- 1:04I am doing fantastic? How weird is it being back in this studio
- 1:10having moved your your production facility and Telling Outdoors to the to the Tactical Outfitters
- 1:19look it's always refreshing to come back here and know that that everything works right.
- 1:23It's not something that I put together. Poul Grant comes in and produces
- 1:29a show and we spend probably what ten minutes a day looking at everything trying
- 1:34to figure out if it's gonna work right or not. All right, everything's
- 1:37in order. This I checked it, double triple check. Yeah, okay,
- 1:40how does it sound funny? I don't get it. It's uh,
- 1:44you doesn't have hard to say it to you. Oh. By the way,
- 1:46Grant, I recorded some radio ads for Dothan Market. Uh, so
- 1:49when you come in on Friday, you may want to double check everything.
- 1:53Yeah, I don't know that. That's a that's a warning shot. I
- 1:57went in there and I'm like, okay, which button is a Grant push?
- 2:01Yeah? It looks good, but you've been there. It's uh,
- 2:07we've got couches in there, so we can you know, we have people
- 2:08come in and just sit back and spectate. Studio audience. Oh yeah,
- 2:13yeah, it's uh, it's it's I'll tell you what did you hear the
- 2:16Lama story? You gotta listen to two shows ago. You gotta hear the
- 2:21Lama story. I did not hear the lamas. Yeah, I gotta hear,
- 2:23yeah, gotta listen to episode to forty I mean three forty three.
- 2:28I think it was okay, three forty three, look at you, Yeah,
- 2:32three forty four. That's a lot of shows for a weekly show.
- 2:36Was here a three forty three? Three forty four? But that is the
- 2:38uh turn. It's awesome. It was so funny because we were just we
- 2:43mentioned something to do with a lama, and Fred is sitting there. He
- 2:46goes, that was my lama. And Fred introduced Fred to our audience.
- 2:50And I'm sorry that you have to do this. Fred Conrad local Fred Kanmaer
- 2:54read Esquire a local defense attorney. Super funny. Uh uh Fred, Fred,
- 3:01if you're listening, I'm not gonna embarrass you too much. The you
- 3:05know, Fred plays an your version of Coca cola spiced. Maybe he's a
- 3:09little spicy taste, definitely an acquired taste, very competent, very good attorney.
- 3:16Uh does good work. Also has a warped sense of humor and is
- 3:21and there is an acquired taste. And sometimes he's not Bible belt friendly and
- 3:27some of his off the air stories. But that's that's Fred. Anybody that
- 3:30knows him. He's the guy that shows up on Halloween every year wearing a
- 3:34costume in the court room. So there you go. I'm trying to think
- 3:38the last one was was it a penguin or a I thought it was a
- 3:42pickle this year. It was a pickle this year. Yeah, he looked
- 3:46like a plankton and SpongeBob because he's so little and was green anyway. So
- 3:54but no, he apparently you just got to listen to the episode it is.
- 3:59It is super, super funny, and that's been I've been told that's
- 4:05our funniest show ever. Oh boy, Yeah, you gotta listen to that
- 4:10on your next road trip. So that's that's a show that's going to have
- 4:13some outakes for me. Maybe maybe I don't know, maybe not on your
- 4:19show, on our show. Yeah, okay, Charlie and j D's Greatest
- 4:28Hits. It could be on the Greatest Hits album that we started. Huh,
- 4:31could be. There's no singing. Just remember that idea came here,
- 4:34just a whole segment. Yeah on nothing. Well I wouldn't say we,
- 4:40but you sure did. Well. You at any point in time, you
- 4:42could have asked me a question or turned this in a productive direction. But
- 4:46no, you just let us do what we do on a talle an outdoor
- 4:48show and just run our mouths with no purpose projecting his shortcoming on me.
- 4:55All right, that's you enabled me. He's been hanging out of with the
- 5:00protesters downtown. It's the Morning Show with Preston Scott on news Radio one hundred
- 5:08point seven Double UFLA or on NewsRadio doubled UFLA. Panama City dot Com back
- 5:16with Charlie Strickland hear on the radio program, and I told him there were
- 5:20a handful of things I wanted to talk about. I've gotten emails, I've
- 5:24gotten texts, I've gotten I've gotten people from my church reaching out because they
- 5:30know that we have a security team at our church where I think pretty well
- 5:33prepared for whatever. And Congress, there's a bill that's been introduced. Of
- 5:40course, it came from the illiberals that would suggest that if you were training
- 5:46at talent range, like you guys do that, any of that training where
- 5:51you're instructing somebody to do anything other than shooting at paper targets, would be
- 5:57considered military or we're a military preparation and training and would be ruled illegal.
- 6:03And would have to be stopped. And so the fear is that security teams
- 6:09and anybody doing active training against active shooters or preparing for just self defense purposes,
- 6:16that the government's going to come after it and stop it. We know
- 6:18you currently cannot in like all fifty states, you cannot have a private militia
- 6:26and conduct organized training. So you're not. We don't when we've always been
- 6:31careful when people come to us for training that you know, we're teaching people
- 6:35self defense, we're teaching people response to active shooter. We're teaching we're teaching
- 6:41it the correct way. We're teaching you and your buddy or or your family
- 6:46that's your house, or you and your family, or defending your home.
- 6:48And so any of our team type training is typically family oriented or business oriented
- 6:55or something. It's not militia training because that's not allowed. You're not allowed
- 6:59to have a private mala. It has to be organized, I mean,
- 7:01which is why we have the Florida Guard, we have the Florida National Guard.
- 7:03We have those things. The governors put together the Florida the reinstituted that
- 7:09you know, you currently you can go do whatever type of training you want.
- 7:13You just have to be careful that it's not perceived or viewed as unit
- 7:18or militia type training. Right. But that said, home defense, business,
- 7:27community defense, as far as response to active shooter or terrorist threats,
- 7:30things like that, that's okay. So passing the law that would prohibit the
- 7:35public from getting any type of training that could be what is is. First
- 7:42off, I don't think it would pass the House because you know, this
- 7:45is clearly a violation of our Second Amendment rights. And there are even a
- 7:48few Democrats that agree with those. Yeah, so I don't think it's going
- 7:51to pass. But the but certainly they have that in their brains. That
- 7:57and that's the fear of the liberal left, the anti gunners, the ant
- 8:01the people that are concerned because we have all the guns and we threaten to
- 8:07use them if there ever needed to be a true insurrection that you know,
- 8:13if there were ever a fight, obviously the people with the guns are going
- 8:16to win the fight, and they want to you know, they don't want
- 8:20guns. So that pretty much puts all the power in the hands of the
- 8:24right if the government were to fall apart. So you know, how do
- 8:26they go about that? Go back? They want to go after let's write
- 8:30some laws because that's going to make a difference, Like they've got nothing else
- 8:35to do. I just got a letter from my account it this week where
- 8:37the IRS is now flush with new, better paid, higher educated agents that
- 8:43will be conducting a plethora of they don't use that word, but I don't
- 8:46know how they phrased it, of new letter type audits where they'll send you
- 8:50a letter and demand information from your business so they can do more audits.
- 8:56And you know, the account is offering a service where you know, they
- 8:58pays a littlection for money, and well it's like insurance. If you get
- 9:01it for a flat fee, you we'll take care of everything, kind of
- 9:05like a a retainer. Yeah, well then they're on retainer anyway. But
- 9:09in this case they're anticipating a lot more audits because the federal government wants to
- 9:15get all of our money, yep, and don't want to let anything go.
- 9:18And you know, so it's big government, which is what conservatives and
- 9:24a writer against. That's how they want to control us. I'm not concerned
- 9:28about that passing, but it is concerning that that's a new route that they're
- 9:33trying, like Mexico suing the gun industry now and looking like that might go
- 9:39through back with Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group, co host of Talent
- 9:46Outdoors with JD. Johnson, and we're talking personal defense and all of the
- 9:50things that extend from there. I mentioned that there's actually been a pleasant surprise
- 9:58in all things government with gun because that doesn't happen. We don't say those
- 10:01words very often, that something's actually good that's going on. But you were
- 10:05telling me that suppressor turnaround times. It was promised that it was going to
- 10:09get better, and you're seeing yet, Well, you know, there's always
- 10:13some glitches, and if you are doing trusts the time, it's a little
- 10:18longer because establishment of the trust in the background checks and all that. Right,
- 10:22But if you are buying a suppressor silencer as an individual right now,
- 10:28which there's some advantages and disadvantages, the advantages that your turnaround time is pretty
- 10:33short. I'm seeing I get all the emails for the approvals that go through
- 10:37us right now on the E file, and I am regularly seeing right now
- 10:43the last two or three days, I'm seeing return foreign fours coming back,
- 10:48tax stamps coming back from Thanksgiving. Today, I saw one from November thirtieth,
- 10:54so you've got December January and two three weeks in February. So what's
- 10:58that? A twelve week, ten weeks, four and fours eight and two
- 11:03mores ten. I was ten weeks and so a ten week turnaround yesterday and
- 11:09I sent ford email straight to j D and Manna and I said, hey,
- 11:11look at this guy got two form fours to two stack tax stamps back
- 11:18in six days, six days, six days. Yeah. I mean sometimes
- 11:24wait by trying to buy a gun fills like they have to wait that long.
- 11:28But that's and the person that got the six days isn't like a law
- 11:33enforcement off. Just some dude you know, came in and bought, brought
- 11:37two cans and six days later. But he did him as an individual instead
- 11:41of a trust. Sure. Now the advantage of doing it as a trust
- 11:46is that, Okay, so I have a tax stamp and I have a
- 11:48silencer, and I'm doing something with it, and you say, hey,
- 11:52Charlie, let me Can I borrow that? Yeah, you can stand next
- 11:54to me, but you cannot take it hunting. I cannot loan it to
- 11:58you because I owned as an individual. Even if I have it in a
- 12:01trust, I can't loan it to you, but I can put you on
- 12:03my trust. Depending on what kind of trust it is, I can name
- 12:07you to my trust as a trustee and then you can have it. And
- 12:09so like, if you have a trust, then you members of your family.
- 12:15Can you know people that you put on it? When you pass away,
- 12:18all those things stay in the trust and then whoever the trustees are can
- 12:22maintain those. If it's an individual, they whoever inherit it says to go
- 12:28back through the entire process again and get another tax stamp. And if someone
- 12:31has a suppressor individually, can they convert it to a trust. Yeah,
- 12:37it's there's a process. Okay, you can't you can't get it. You
- 12:39can do an NFA trust, put all your stuff on there, and there's
- 12:43ways to do that. Certainly they can call and ask anybody who's a Class
- 12:46three dealer can pretty much walk you through there. We use silence a shop,
- 12:50you know with the kiosk and all that. Yeah, they do a
- 12:52lot of that for you, so we don't have to do the complicated work.
- 12:56But it's just encouraging that you know something is actually working to make things
- 13:01of that not a hindrance. Oh yeah, yeah, it's a big thing.
- 13:05It's a big market for Oh, yes, bouncers. I mean,
- 13:07we've got like two vaults full of them waiting on tax stamps. But now
- 13:09they're turnaround faster. That makes it. The faster the turnaround is on the
- 13:13paperwork, the more they sell. And I'm shooting more pleasant, yeah,
- 13:18I mean, and honestly, you know, I'm I'm you know, I
- 13:24digress. Well, let me ask you another question, because you know,
- 13:26you've been in law enforcement your whole life, You've been around it. Now
- 13:30you're back in law enforcement as well. Can you explain why the Florida Sheriff's
- 13:37Association is so adamantly opposed to full open carry inside Florida when every metric,
- 13:43every study shows that, in fact, crime goes down when it's enacted,
- 13:48and there are not ridiculous wild wild West abuses. Well, and listen,
- 13:54I'm in Georgia and Alabama all the time, and they have open carry.
- 13:58I never see people caring open I mean almost never. It's just that it
- 14:01frees you up to do that if you so choose, But people just are
- 14:05socially more understanding of the nuances and what it means, so people just don't
- 14:11do it. I mean, I'm in Dothing twice a week at our gun
- 14:13range, and I just don't I mean I go into town, I just
- 14:18don't see it. So it's not like the big fear is everybody's going to
- 14:22run around doing it. And they don't even consider that constitutional carry up there
- 14:24because they can't carry it in certain places. And that's more constitutional carrier than
- 14:28Florida has because we don't have it as far as how now. And Marion
- 14:31Hammer will tell you that back in the day when we had open carry,
- 14:35before we had concealed carry, the Share Association, Police Chief Association, all
- 14:39those people, law enforcement in general opposed concealed carry because they said, we
- 14:45want to be able to see the gun. So somebody's got a gun,
- 14:46we want to see the gun. We want to know that there's a gun
- 14:48when we pull up on seeing our officers. It's an officer safety issue and
- 14:52we don't want people care and concealed And they fought it, and then the
- 14:56legislature passed it, and then they repealed open carry behind the scenes. And
- 15:01now that they're trying to go and free up open cary, law enforcement as
- 15:05a general rule of saying, we don't want open guns because our officers will
- 15:09see them and it will distract them from doing their job. And I,
- 15:15you know, I just don't understand that way of thinking. It's a change,
- 15:22and I think they're afraid that people there'll be more guns out there.
- 15:26I just don't see that happening. And there's some nuances about well can I
- 15:30ask them if they have a can I ask them to see their license.
- 15:33There's a lot of questions as to how that would work. Welcome to m
- 15:37a D Radio Network. It's the Morning Show with Preston Scott. Picking up
- 15:46on our conversation with Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group and Talent Outdoors.
- 15:54If I were to I just want to drag this a couple of minutes longer.
- 15:56The Sheriff's Association fighting full constitutional carry, meaning open carry here in Florida.
- 16:03Charlie, if I were to say to you, well, okay,
- 16:06the evidence says crime goes down, evidence says it's not the wild wild West.
- 16:11In all these states that have it, it's just it's not true.
- 16:15So I'm going to be only five states that don't allow it. So I'm
- 16:18going to say to you, then, well then it's got to be that
- 16:21for somehow, some way, the majority of the sheriffs in the Florida Sheriff
- 16:25Association have to be illiberal Democrats, and we know that's not the case.
- 16:30It's not the case. It's not the case. Most of the sheriff's in
- 16:33the state of Florida are conservatives. They lean conservative on issues across the board.
- 16:38I don't understand. I get it because I'm a cop. I've been
- 16:44a cop my whole career. I've trained cops. I've worked for bosses that,
- 16:49while they were conservative, this this type of stuff concerned them. And
- 16:55one of the big concerns is, Okay, can my officers my officers show
- 17:00up And I heard this and time and time again. I don't want my
- 17:03officers to be distracted when they show up on a scene. Somebody's got a
- 17:07gun. They're focused on the gun. They're focused on that situation, that
- 17:11dynamic, instead of dealing with the problem at hand, and it can be
- 17:15dangerous. Well, you know, I've always been at the attitude. If
- 17:17I show up on a scene and somebody's got a holstered gun on and they're
- 17:21not waving it around and do anything stupid, They're on my side at that
- 17:23point in time. Yeah, they're yeah, can they pull it if they
- 17:26don't agree with me? If it's concealed, they can do the same thing.
- 17:30And I didn't know there was a gun, you know. So it's
- 17:33more but the dynamic changing if you look at the so is his training,
- 17:37his training, It is the level of maturity of the generation that's being hired
- 17:42in the law enforcement today. That people that have never been in a fight,
- 17:45people who have never been in confrontations, people that you know, are
- 17:49educated but not experienced in the ways of the world, and they haven't been
- 17:53exposed to I mean, you take a person who's led a sheltered life and
- 17:57went and got a college degree, never lived in a neighborhood highly populated by
- 18:03members of the minority community who might they might not know how to get along
- 18:07with, and all of a sudden, you thrust them into a basin street
- 18:11project here in town and you tell them to go work this out between these
- 18:15people. And you have no idea how the culture works, and I have
- 18:18no idea how to deal with conflict in that culture, and you know,
- 18:22they thrust you into it. And then all of a sudden, you add
- 18:26the dynamic that somebody's got a gun on their waiste and they're legally carrying it,
- 18:30and then you don't know whether you can challenge them or take it away
- 18:32from You're not allowed to take it away from it's the right to have it.
- 18:34You can't disarm everybody on the scene because you have no right to do
- 18:38that. And it adds a lot of complicating factors in there for law enforcement.
- 18:44But don't forget, sheriffs that our job is to protect and defend the
- 18:49constitution and the citizens of our community, no matter how complicated it is.
- 18:56And so while I love the shaff Association, I love the Sheriffs of State,
- 19:00I don't agree on this point and I'm never going to agree on this
- 19:03point because I feel like it is a constitutional right to carry firearms in whatever
- 19:08method we need to. All Right, it's a right we have. It
- 19:11is the right we have that it's being restrict allowed, it's being restricted.
- 19:15It's coming, it's going to happen. It's get on board, I mean,
- 19:18you know, start to be part of the solution, not part of
- 19:22the problem. And through politics and manipulation of politicians, you know, they've
- 19:29managed to keep this from happening. And while I there, again, I
- 19:33love my sheriffs. I love the sheriff that I that keeps me on his
- 19:37reserves. I provide training for him and his staff. I love doing it,
- 19:41awesome guy. But the Shriff's Association choosing to do this, or the
- 19:45Police Chiefs Association, or anybody else that might oppose it, I am in
- 19:49disagreement. I'm not in no disrespectful way, but hey, I just I
- 19:53think it's wrong. But there's a lot of public that it's scarce. Hope
- 19:56and carry scares people, and it's it's because they don't understand it, and
- 20:00they're afraid that they're going to be at the Chick fil A and look next
- 20:06to them or somebody would have opened nineteen eleven while their kids are playing.
- 20:10Yeah, yeah, that could happen. So what you go to any place
- 20:17where conservatives tend together and there's guns all over all over the place because you
- 20:22don't see them. Yeah, you know, every Sunday morning, go anywhere
- 20:26I go, I promise you somebody's hearing a gun. I would think so
- 20:29at least one. Charlie's trickling with me this morning in the Morning Show final
- 20:33segment. Here time flies when you're having fun. Oh so he's dragging out
- 20:38from me here. I don't know what. Okay, I'm playing you know,
- 20:45you know what? You know what? Next time I just talk to
- 20:48JD, you will actually certainly will. Charlie is strickling with us now.
- 20:56Once a month he and JD tag off and on and Charlie takes the third
- 21:00Wednesday of the month JD. The first I mentioned New York, of course,
- 21:06is earlier in the program. I talked about just hemorrhaging businesses and the
- 21:10ruling against Donald Trump's not going to help. People are just going to continue
- 21:14to pull money. I think the number is one trillion dollars has been pulled
- 21:18from New York in the last year or so. Good heading to Florida and
- 21:22Texas. Among the businesses that have left, and it's really hurt the Mohawk
- 21:26Valley up there is Remington. Remington is relocating to Georgia. First of all,
- 21:33does that have any impact on the industry itself, Well, Remington's been
- 21:38troubled for some time. They've been bankrupt and bought out and swapped and traded
- 21:44around. Like a lot of gun industries, a lot of gun manufacturers have
- 21:47been over time. There's been lawsuits that have heard them, and there's a
- 21:51lot of stuff going on with them. But I've been to the factory an
- 21:53alien. I'm a Remington armorer. I've been up there, learned to work
- 21:57on their rifles, work on their shotguns. Pavilion are devastating, so in
- 22:02Ilian it is all about Remington. That factory has been there for generations,
- 22:07I mean generations, And you go to the factory line. We got a
- 22:12tour and you're talking to somebody who's a machinist and they're working where their father
- 22:18worked, where their grandfather worked, in the same place, the same table
- 22:22as doing the same job. It's a generational business and it's so integrated in
- 22:27that community. They're basically destroying that community by moving. But they are moving
- 22:33because financially and legally and with all the regulations and stuff that are going on
- 22:37up there and the tax implications and all that, they got to go.
- 22:41And I'm sure a bunch of those people are probably moving too. But it's
- 22:45I mean, it's devastating for the area and they can't help it because that
- 22:52area wouldn't vote that way, but New York has and the population center controls
- 22:57it. I mean, it's no different than you know, a lot of
- 23:00South Florida people control what happens throughout Florida, and Florida is a divided not
- 23:07that I mean, we are definitely where we need to be as a state,
- 23:10don't get me wrong. But if you think that Jackson County, Holmes
- 23:15County, Washington County of Scambia, those types of counties up here control you
- 23:19don't. We don't control the state. The state's controlled by people from somewhere
- 23:23else. Luckily we're all more or less on the same page. So but
- 23:26I mean, just think about it. There it is you know, a
- 23:30lot more people in Miami than there are in Tylahassee. Is it, overall,
- 23:37broadly speaking, a good thing that Remington packed up and left. I
- 23:42think so, not for the employees of Remington, but for the and their
- 23:51unions and stuff up there too. And I think it's good for Remington.
- 23:56I think it's good for the industry because when you see a powerhouse in the
- 24:00industry, go, you know what, we don't like your laws. We're
- 24:03leaving me. There's a message. Truthfully, Charlie, you and I know
- 24:07that Remington has been in and out of bankruptcy and kind of been bought up
- 24:11and moved it. Most people hear Remington, they hear Winchester, they hear
- 24:15brands that are iconic in an industry, and they just go, Wow,
- 24:19they're moving. You know, Colt Cult anacon to cult, Pythons Cult is
- 24:26owned by c Z. You know that's cult. It's not owned by Colt.
- 24:30There's no cults anymore. They just put Colt on the things they're making,
- 24:33on some of the same machinery and some of the same people. But
- 24:36it's not owned by Colt anymore. As you've got an old cold, it's
- 24:40worth something because it's a real cult. You know, they're making some good
- 24:41stuff now. So the the industry is being swapped and traded and moved around
- 24:47off. I'm just like anything else, you know, banks, credit unions,
- 24:53car manufacturers, I mean, who makes Chrysler nowadays, or Dides.
- 24:57I mean, I don't know who owns it anymore. You know. It's
- 25:03but I like seeing things. I like seeing organizations pack up and leave the
- 25:07elon musks of the word. You know what, I'm going to get out
- 25:08of here and go to Texas or something or was it Jeff Bezos or somebody,
- 25:14you know, I'm I'm packing up, going to Florida. Yep,
- 25:18he saved six hundred million dollars. I believe it was in Texas, from
- 25:22the state of Washington to the free state of Florida. Yes, I mean
- 25:23we don't have our all of our constitutional Second Amendment rights here, yeah,
- 25:29but we are certainly the free state of Florida. I'd rather live here than
- 25:33most places here Texas. I kind of like Alabama too, but you know,
- 25:37it's a whatever. Good to see you, good see great thanks here,
- 25:42Thanks for coming in. Charlie Strickland with us this morning on the Morning Show.
