- 0:12Get laced up. It's time for banter with the boys
- 0:22What's up everybody welcome back to banner with the boys
- 0:25We have had one heck of a week in the NFL with a lot of drama. We had free agency kickoff
- 0:30We have a lot to talk about today. Let's bring everybody in joined today by two fine gentlemen first, Mr. Smelty
- 0:37How you doing? How you feeling? I'm feeling pretty nice today Tyler pretty good
- 0:43Long week of work. I'm excited to wrap it up with a podcast. I can't lie
- 0:47I hear you there brother nothing better than talking some football on a Friday night putting back some BLs gotta love it
- 0:53And in front of me here Cole. How are you doing, sir? Doing good
- 0:57Couldn't stop checking my Instagram checking all of the NFL updates
- 1:01It just seems like so much has happened in such a short time. So happy to recap it here today
- 1:05Yeah, I couldn't agree. My phone was just non-stop going off and as a Packers fan
- 1:09You know, I was constantly refreshing some Twitter feeds looking for certain something here, but we got some clarification
- 1:14We'll get into later. But let's start off with these free agency and a little bit of trades too
- 1:18It's not just gonna recap free agency. We're gonna go over some of the things that we're gonna talk about today
- 1:22Some big moves that were made via trade as well some game-changing potential out there, but let's kick it off with you Smelty
- 1:29What do you have here? So I'm gonna go ahead and start it off with old James Bradbury resigning with the Eagles
- 1:36Obviously right now everybody knows who he is because of that penalty in the Super Bowl
- 1:41We're not gonna talk about that because that has been already talked about so many times by others
- 1:47So we just won't be talking about that
- 1:49But what people do tend to forget is that he was cut by the Giants the year before
- 1:53So he signed a one-year prove-it deal with Philly and I would go ahead and say that he absolutely proved it
- 1:59He was the fourth best
- 2:02Corner in the league as far as passer rating goes. He only led up a 54.7 passer rating
- 2:07I mean, that's almost nothing. So that's a great move by the Eagles to retain Bradbury
- 2:12So he signed a three-year deal 38 million with 20 mil guaranteed with the contract worth up to
- 2:1944 million with incentives. I
- 2:22Mean you have to resign that guy. I mean he's all pro right now
- 2:27Well, I'll talk about Darius Lane a second
- 2:29But at the moment they didn't know if Darius was gonna stay get traded released
- 2:34They had no idea what was going on
- 2:36And so when people asked Brad Bradbury kind of why he resigned he felt quote the Eagles were the best fit and it meant
- 2:44A lot to him that the team wanted him back so bad. He just said it felt good to be wanted this late in his career
- 2:51He's 29 years old and still looking to make plays. Yeah, the crazy thing about that
- 2:56It's you know, he was released by the Giants
- 2:59He had a bounce back year with Philadelphia now we finally getting the payday and in my opinion he deserves
- 3:03I don't think he was deserving of being cut by the Giants. They were kind of a wreck at that point and
- 3:08You know, it was a team-friendly deal at that. He's only the 14th highest paid corner in the league
- 3:13So that's you know, I in my opinion a really really good deal and the Eagles the Eagle the Eagles
- 3:19The Eagles have their number one and two corner lockdown for the next couple of years. I'm happy for Bradbury
- 3:25He I mean I thought he deserved to stay with the Giants even I did not think he should have been cut
- 3:30And I'm just happy to see him sign even longer and I'm just excited to see him here in the NFL in the future
- 3:34The other thing to note with the Giants as well is they're paying a Dory Jackson
- 3:38More than James Bradbury is being paid by Philadelphia with this deal who won that I think we all know the answer to that
- 3:46but as we look at the other side of
- 3:51The field from Bradbury you got Darius Slay and talk about a carousel with him, right?
- 3:55So March 10th Eagles grant Slay permission to seek a trade. I mean that threw me out like off balance almost
- 4:02I'm no Eagles fan
- 4:04I'm a Vikings fan. So rest in peace me but
- 4:08Like that was just crazy. I couldn't believe that they were possibly gonna trade this guy
- 4:14And I don't know just threw me off
- 4:15So then we moved to March 15th Eagles are now set to release Slay with a post June 1st
- 4:22designation therefore they get 17 and a half million cap rather than if they released him right away it would have been
- 4:283.7 so definitely waiting till that June 1st and then literally that night
- 4:35Slay went ahead and tweeted at about 10 o'clock quote back like I never left run it back
- 4:41So he was back so I ended up signing a three-year deal
- 4:45Which is exactly what he wanted from the beginning at 42 million dollars that includes 23 million guaranteed
- 4:54Slay is 32 years old. Is that worth it at this point in Slay's career? What do you guys what do you guys think?
- 5:01I don't know. It's also kind of interesting when you talk about the guaranteed how close Bradbury really is that guarantee especially because I mean
- 5:09Arguably hasn't proved himself as much as Slay in the NFL
- 5:12So to get that guarantee if they they see who the real rising star is and who's probably gonna be there for the long term
- 5:17Yeah, most definitely. I think the only thing that that led them to that decision was Bradbury's three years younger
- 5:24You know, you don't often see 32 year old players, let alone cornerbacks
- 5:28I mean take quarterbacks out of the equation here because that's they're an anomaly in the whole contract situation as a whole
- 5:33But a 32 year old quarterback making that kind of money signing an extension
- 5:36Just goes to show how much actual work these guys put into their bodies nowadays and they can have the longevity that he just didn't
- 5:43Have even ten years ago, you know
- 5:45It wasn't that long ago where a cornerback shelf life was about ten years
- 5:48And then you're talking about moving them into the slaughter or hybrid safety role to prolong their career and you know guys are like Slayer
- 5:55Just proving that wrong
- 5:56It's really impressive, especially with cornerbacks like that. I mean
- 6:0032 now especially with like the talent we have coming out of college. It's a complete different beast, right?
- 6:05Now you got guys come out of college running four fours
- 6:08Like nothing 35 inch verticals. It's a different beast to be that old and still get signed and still show to be you know
- 6:14Earned a starting spot. It's pretty impressive. Well, and here's the deal. I mean, I'm not surprised he got some guaranteed money here
- 6:21I mean his first six games
- 6:23He only gave up a 31.8 passer rating and had three picks in the first six games of the season. I mean everybody
- 6:30Obviously knew who he was to begin with but that put him back on the map at 32 years old weren't two of those picks
- 6:36against the Vikings
- 6:38next question
- 6:41And then
- 6:43Literally moving on I don't want to talk about that, but he absolutely locked Justin Jefferson down
- 6:47I was actually gonna mark down those stats for me to bring up and then I decided against it as a Vikings fan and
- 6:53A JJ fan that we just don't need to talk about that anymore. He's obviously gonna raise his game up
- 6:57So yeah, we'll forget about it, but I will bring up
- 7:02Back to Darius Slay week seven through through the Super Bowl now including the Super Bowl. He gave up a
- 7:08114.1 passer rating
- 7:12Yeah, let that let that settle in for a second
- 7:15114.1 passer rating week seven through the Super Bowl
- 7:19So knowing what he's still capable of at his age at those first six games and seeing how he ended the season
- 7:25Would you have signed him to that three-year deal 42 million dollar extension with 23 million guaranteed?
- 7:32That's a tough ass that blows my mind that that's how he performed in
- 7:36You're not even the later half of the season that goes back to before the even halfway mark
- 7:41So that that kind of puts me in shock
- 7:43but at the end of the day, you know, even if I
- 7:47Don't know. I mean that's tough because even if Bradbury overtakes him
- 7:50That's a lot of money you're paying for a number two corner
- 7:53And I don't know I mean I'm asking this truly is does he travel with the number one or did they just split the field?
- 7:59Half and half without like literally pulling that up right now and from what I was reading earlier today
- 8:05I think they kind of split it a little bit. They kind of play matchups kind of see what's going on
- 8:10Because Slay locked down JJ and week two or whatever it was when they played the Vikings
- 8:16If they they played the Vikings today, I don't think they're putting slay on JJ
- 8:20I think Bradbury's getting that job. So I think with him coming back you can see that change next year
- 8:25I think maybe Bradbury will follow the number one
- 8:28I don't know because you can only imagine that Slay's speed might diminish just a little bit by next season
- 8:34But I have no idea
- 8:36Yeah, the interesting thing about that is there's a strategy that they're the Patriots have always used with their number one corner
- 8:42Whether it's Revis whether it's Gilmore that you take the number one corner
- 8:46You put them on the number two receiver
- 8:47You put your number two corner on the number one and then put a safety over top
- 8:51So you're giving them a double team automatically
- 8:53Where I could see that even kind of forming into that Eagles defense if Slay's production does keep kind of dropping off as is
- 8:59Where he just simply can't cover the number one and you know, and like you said, Cole you got receivers coming in
- 9:05You know the Garrett Willsons the Chris Olaves that are coming in just burners running four threes four fours and have the rut
- 9:10running ability of Salva
- 9:12Six seven year Devontae Adams, you know, they're not to Devontae Adams right now
- 9:16Don't get me wrong, but in terms of where Devontae was year one versus what these cats are year one
- 9:20Like that's that's a tough question to see if the money really is worth it
- 9:25Yeah, I mean without again watching like every second of tape right in front of me
- 9:31Slays kind of feeling like and not to again bring up my Vikings
- 9:34But he kind of reminds me like an Antoine Winfield kind of now
- 9:37He's kind of gonna be following that slack guy a little bit kind of plant
- 9:41Maybe almost nickel corner at this point to like I don't know. We'll see
- 9:44What they decide to do with them and at the moment you brought up this having the safety over the top of like say sleigh
- 9:50We don't know who they're playing at safety right now, which will you know, I'll touch on that in a little bit
- 9:55But at the moment we have no idea who's gonna be the safeties for the Eagles right now
- 9:59Yeah, and I was definitely gonna touch on that too. I mean just like with
- 10:03You don't have like the Dermott and James back there for you, right? You don't have those guys that can fly around the field
- 10:08So the split in the field kind of right now seems like the best move
- 10:11Especially with the big wide receivers. I don't know. I don't seem going into the slot though
- 10:15I see him being outside corner still just with help over help over top maybe but he's still so good in short routes and all that
- 10:23Well, one thing again not to bring up my Vikings, but Patrick Peterson kind I mean
- 10:29I think Daria Slay is still better than Patrick Peterson right now today for sure, but
- 10:34Like we're getting into that same situation
- 10:36Again at the beginning of the year. I don't I don't know if they're gonna be able to do that
- 10:40I think at the beginning of the year, I don't I don't have the numbers for Patrick P in front of me
- 10:43But I think again kind of like through the same
- 10:46Uh length of time that I was talking about Slay those first six weeks
- 10:49I think Patrick P killed it and then as the season progressed dude, he was just burnt toast
- 10:54I don't know. Maybe he'll get rejuvenated and with the Steelers now that he's there
- 10:58Um, but I feel like Slay's kind of going that direction
- 11:02I think the biggest thing with Slay you're gonna see probably next year is like Tyler was saying with the Patriots
- 11:06Having that safety over top and keeping him on press. Maybe a lot more and really locking in that first 12 to 15 yard range
- 11:15Yeah, I could definitely agree with that
- 11:16You know where he can still use his physicality and his brain behind it to be where he lacks up in the fit in the
- 11:21Athleticism he can make up with just his overall knowledge of the game
- 11:24You know, I I could very easily see the Darrell Rivas Richard Sherman in the later years with Slay where you know
- 11:31They weren't what they were in their prime
- 11:33But there's still a top 15 cornerback in the league, but you're not paying a 15
- 11:38Top 15 cornerback this kind of money
- 11:40So it kind of translates back to what you were saying smelty is
- 11:43You know if his level of production does drop off even a little bit where it puts him in that 10 to 15 10 to 20
- 11:48Range you're paying him way too much at that point. Yeah
- 11:51Do you guys know the tackles difference on these two corners between the uh, Slay and Bradbury?
- 11:57I don't but I can get that number for you here because that's that's a big deal too
- 12:00I mean that kind of would translate more into where we're seeing more on a press who we might be seeing more in number two
- 12:06Or who can you know disrupt that pass game and their run game and yeah
- 12:11I'm sorry
- 12:11I didn't mean to cut you off and not and not to bring this up because this is not the only thing that matters
- 12:16But you know how I mentioned that Slay had three picks in those first six games. He had none the rest of the season
- 12:23Zero. Yeah, if you look at the tackle stats there, so Slay did have more at 55, but Bradbury had 44
- 12:29So the difference isn't
- 12:31Astronomically difference same interceptions with both of them having three
- 12:36But uh, yeah that that much of a difference
- 12:38I don't know
- 12:38I don't know if that would play a deciding factor with it's so small of a gap there
- 12:42Which I mean I expect as a as a cornerback though 10 tackles is you know, that can be a substantial amount
- 12:48but
- 12:50Especially on corner two. I mean they're not you know, they're not all over the ball, right?
- 12:54I mean they're playing right now, especially with that low of tackles on a season. They're more so coverage guys, so you could easily see them
- 13:00Floating around on that. Yeah
- 13:02The other thing with that as well is how this Philadelphia defense is built is you're not relying on your corners to make those tackles
- 13:07They're front seven so good that if they're getting to the corners
- 13:11Then they're they're failing that run, you know 75 80 percent of the time because that's just not how the defense is built
- 13:16So, I mean that could play a factor in it as well because if you look at like Jalen Ramsey
- 13:20Interesting just to see what his tackle stats are when he's you know, almost undoubtedly the
- 13:26Most aggressive corner in the league, especially when it comes to tackling
- 13:30Um, yeah, I'll get that number for you here real quick. See it was 88 you look at 88 versus 55
- 13:35So that's where you're and again Jalen Ramsey an anomaly like no other corner is probably going to come close to that 88 number
- 13:41But yeah, that definitely goes to show just the difference in the overall defense. It's really impressive, especially with cornerbacks like that. I mean
- 13:4732 now, especially with like the talent we have coming out of college. It's a complete different beast, right?
- 13:53Now you got guys come out of college running four fours
- 13:56Like nothing 35 inch verticals. It's a different beast to be that old and still get signed and still show to be you know
- 14:02Earned a starting spot. It's pretty impressive
- 14:05I mean, yeah, Ramsey is definitely a difference maker two other big difference makers have got to be Tremaine Edmonds and Jordan Poirier
- 14:12Obviously, I'm a New York kid went to college in Buffalo
- 14:16Went to college in Buffalo huge Buffalo Bills guy losing Tremaine Edmonds huge hit went to the Bears signed a four-year
- 14:2372 million dollar contract 50 mil of that being guaranteed
- 14:28At the end of the day it sucks losing him, but I'm just happy that that guy got paid
- 14:31I think he deserves it and I think he's got to be a maybe a top five, you know backer in the nfl
- 14:39Might be a stretch there, but I think he's got such promise and such a bright future that he's got to be in that conversation
- 14:45Dang top five. I I really hope not because him coming to the nfc north. I'm already not a big fan of
- 14:52Um the one thing that i'm definitely not a big fan of but good for him is in his five seasons
- 14:58It looks like he's only missed six games
- 15:01So as a viking fan i'm like cool, so he's gonna play every game pretty much right?
- 15:07So and he's almost got a hundred tackles
- 15:10Let's see. He's got over a hundred tackles in two of those five and over 90 in in all of the seasons
- 15:15He's been in nfl. So I think i'm definitely not looking forward to a defensive playmaker in nfc north
- 15:22Yeah, I couldn't agree more smelty the bears had roquan smith got rid of him and replaced him with Tremaine Edmonds
- 15:29I thought we could get away with them. Just signing tj edwards and then going with the
- 15:34rookie they had last year from wisconsin his name is
- 15:37He's slipping my mind right now if i'm oh that's gonna bother me
- 15:42But nonetheless Tremaine Edmonds is a big signing. I mean he turns out to be the fourth highest paid inside linebacker now and uh
- 15:50Yeah, i'm not looking forward to seeing him jake sanborn jake sanborn. There you go
- 15:54Yeah, and he he had a decent year. He came on in the later half of the year
- 15:57So the bears are putting together some young talent at that linebacker position. I'm not looking forward to that
- 16:02Edmonds too. I mean i'm a bills fan. I've loved him. He's all over the field for us, but
- 16:06You got to think until last year matt milano wasn't really looked at as you know, one of the top
- 16:13Linebackers, I mean last two seasons. He's been the number one pass coverage linebacker in the nfl
- 16:18Does that play some sort of role on edmonds? I'm not trying to badmouth edmonds
- 16:22I love the guy. I love what he did for the bills, but does that play some sort of role?
- 16:26Does that take a lot off of Edmonds him being so dominant?
- 16:29Yeah, that's going to be interesting to see you know how that truly does affect your defense because I mean
- 16:34I don't see anybody on the roster right now that can slide into that spot and have half the production edmonds gave you
- 16:40You know because milano's gonna have to take on a bigger role and he just got paid too
- 16:44So that's the thing is like you wouldn't be able to afford both of them if you're gonna take one you being a bills fan
- 16:48I'll ask you this who would you rather have milano or edmonds? Yeah, definitely. I'm taking milano all day
- 16:53I'm a huge milano fan. I liked him for years. I thought he was underrated two years ago
- 16:58I'm happy you got his recognition last year, but more so what I was meaning with that statement
- 17:02How does that affect Edmonds going to another team?
- 17:05Do you still think he produces the same amount not having milano next to him?
- 17:10Yeah, no, I don't think so. I think he's gonna slot right in with the Bears right where Roquon kind of left off
- 17:16I think he's just gonna eat up all those tackles right up the middle for sure
- 17:19But also I mean we've seen a lot of great players go there and kind of decline. What about the Cleo Mack?
- 17:26You know you got Cleo Mack going there kind of going to die
- 17:28Yeah, I would wholeheartedly disagree with that statement if you were to look at Cleo Mack's numbers when he was on the Bears
- 17:32He was one of the most productive edge rushers in the league
- 17:35He didn't have the ultimate sack numbers, but his overall presence and what he did in the run game
- 17:39He was an absolute force on the Bears. It was I mean if you
- 17:43This memory will always stay in my head
- 17:45But I was at the in the the game between the Packers and the Bears at Lambeau to open up the season for the
- 17:50The NFL's hundredth season and Cleo Mack took over that game
- 17:55immediately
- 17:59As soon as Rodgers got hurt which was Cleo Mack getting him injured
- 18:03He got the ball from Hundley and took it back for a touchdown like he put the Bears up so much that
- 18:07Packers came back to win that game one of my fondest moments that I'll forever have as a sports fan
- 18:12Especially a Packers fan was at Lambeau just ripping my jersey off and running up down the stands swinging it around
- 18:17But nonetheless like Cleo Mack was an absolute force for the Bears. Yeah, you're right. I was thinking more so
- 18:23When he went to a more dominant or not maybe not a more dominant defense but thinking of the Chargers
- 18:27I'll see in the next team you want to that's where he kind of went to die
- 18:30Joey Bosa came in and definitely played a big role, but that's kind of where he went to die and I'm thinking with
- 18:35Edmonds going to a team like the Bears he thrived maybe just in the build system
- 18:41Yeah, and the one thing I would say to counteract that it's
- 18:45I definitely it's not on Matt Milano's level
- 18:47But that's where I think also signing TJ Edwards is going to help with that that voice
- 18:51Is going to help with that that void per se so it's not all on Edmonds
- 18:55Now don't get me wrong TJ Edwards is not even remotely close to the level of Matt Milano, especially in past coverage
- 19:02But you know, it's like he's gonna be the leader
- 19:04He's gonna be the heart of that defense, but it's not going to be all on him at that even inside backer position
- 19:09Uh, what was the length of contract again? Four years four years. Okay, that's
- 19:15What i'm least excited about I think because he's still 24 years old
- 19:19So now he's with the Bears for another four years
- 19:22I'm just not looking forward to it man. Like I don't know what else I can say about it other than like
- 19:27He's gonna be a young he's 6'5 250. I mean
- 19:32for me with Dalvin Cook staying at the moment anyway with the Vikings like
- 19:38Tremaine Edmonds is gonna eat him for lunch like seriously right up the middle. I don't i'm not looking forward to it
- 19:43Yeah, one thing I certainly am looking forward to is seeing him and AJ Dillon clash in the hole though
- 19:48Oh, that's gonna be a force for sure. I love AJ Dillon. I hate to say that as Vikings fan
- 19:52But gosh, he's a force that that one two punch with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon
- 19:56That's one of the best in the league for sure. That's gonna help. Mr. Jordan. Love. Oh god
- 20:00We're gonna talk about all that later. Also, I mean Edmonds maybe i'm a little salty
- 20:04He left the bills but at the end of the day, I hope you know, this works out well for him
- 20:09I hope he keeps playing in the NFL. I think he's a great linebacker
- 20:12Another big take on this is Jordan Poyer staying with the Bills
- 20:15Was there a lot of other safety signing on other teams? Yes
- 20:18But he took kind of a pay cut. I mean 12.5 mil for two years seven mil guaranteed
- 20:24For Poyer and his level
- 20:27Seems like not enough for Poyer. He's been a freak since he started in the NFL
- 20:31And Bill's taking him on him in that high that one two punch there may not there may not be a better safety duo in the back
- 20:39I mean, they're just a dominant force
- 20:41Yeah, I would say that's a pretty good take you said two years 12.5. Yes. Yeah
- 20:4612.5 per year 12.5 total total. Oh, that's a steal for sure to me. That's a steal
- 20:52I mean because again, i'm kind of gonna bring this up again because it was similar with Tremaine Edmonds, but
- 20:59With Poyer's time with the Bills one two, three, four, five six years. Sorry. I had to count on my fingers there folks
- 21:06But in the six years he's been with the Bills he's missed
- 21:08only five games
- 21:11Again, another guy that stays on the field
- 21:14I mean if you can sign a guy for that cheap that's going to stay on the field and produce at his level
- 21:19And then like you said with Micah Hyde next to him
- 21:22I mean, that's nasty for sure. The Bills are definitely trying to return to the AFC Championship
- 21:27Yeah, his contract just is mind-boggling to me
- 21:30To put that more in perspective in terms of annual contract value. He's the 26th highest paid safety in the league
- 21:38Like so you're trying to tell me there's 25 people that are valued at a higher
- 21:43Performance or contract and Jordan Poyer?
- 21:45That's just astronomical and that truly goes to show how much people go to Buffalo and truly love playing in Buffalo
- 21:51And I would say I mean getting Poyer back being a Bills fan obviously huge everybody's thrilled
- 21:55I mean the game against the Patriots he catches that gleam game clenching interception
- 22:00He just constantly shows up for us last year Micah Hyde's out. He took a huge role
- 22:05deep and then
- 22:07We keep it going with him. I mean he even came out and said this is his home
- 22:10This is where he will play the rest of his career and as a Bills fan not be happier
- 22:15I mean, obviously he took a pay cut, but maybe he took that on purpose. We already saw
- 22:20um big players von Miller
- 22:22Stefan Diggs Josh Allen all already restructuring their contracts. I think the Bills are in it for this year
- 22:28I think they're looking to go to the Super Bowl this year. It just
- 22:31Pains me to hear that as a Packers fan that their players, you know want to stay retire a bill
- 22:37Just fucking pains me
- 22:40So Cole, I actually have a question for you. Um, since you're a Bills fan, what do you guys call yourselves Bills Mafia?
- 22:45Correct. Yeah, okay
- 22:46Uh, do you think that's a factor of Poyer? Do you think he just like loves playing in front of you guys? I mean
- 22:53I mean for me I see videos online all the time of Bills Mafia breaking tables and crap
- 22:57So like if they're that intense in the stands, too
- 23:00I mean that's got to be a factor. That's got to be fun. Being at Bills
- 23:03I've been at multiple Bills games. They're a rush even when it's minus 20
- 23:07You're still having fun with the whole group and the stadium is still packed especially the last couple seasons
- 23:12But the bigger thing too at Bills Mafia is it's not just playing in the stadium, right?
- 23:17I mean we looked at Josh Allen
- 23:19They donated all that money for the hospital to add an extra wing, right?
- 23:24Over and over again, we see this happening. They did the same thing with Tremaine Edmonds
- 23:28This is just this is why people love Bills Mafia is because they actually care for their players
- 23:32Me and Tyler joked around about this, but
- 23:35I mean if
- 23:37Fans could pay extra to keep people
- 23:40Then the Bills Mafia would be paying millions of dollars to keep people and sorry
- 23:44I misspoke earlier was Damar Hamlin I met big old number three
- 23:47Taking that big hit obviously was a huge hit and there was you know fans from both teams at the stadium
- 23:52But Damar Hamlin they blew up his charity. I think it reached what like over 12 mil
- 23:57It's just insane. It just doesn't make any sense. You know, their goal was like 100k stuff like that
- 24:02So that's why people love Bills Bills Mafia and love to stay there and they're diehard fans
- 24:06We went through a lot of tough years, you know, I mean we it was we had Tyrod Taylor
- 24:10You know just back there slinging it away for us. Hey, I love Tyrod those first couple years. Don't don't crap on him
- 24:15He was alright. He did alright for you. He took you to the playoffs, didn't he? First playoffs in 20 years?
- 24:21There you go. Don't crap on Tyrod. My Chargers coach
- 24:26What was it? Not coaching staff training staff stabbed him in the what the lung or whatever it was like two years ago
- 24:31That was ridiculous. Don't don't crap on Tyrod man. He took y'all to the playoffs. That's all I got
- 24:36Yeah, it's hard to crap on Tyrod when you had the likes of JP Lossman playing quarterback for the Bills
- 24:41It's tough too though. I mean like having Josh Allen his first couple years
- 24:45Not being able to really play that many games and then finally like showing out for us
- 24:48It's a fun time to be Bills fan right now
- 24:50But it was definitely tough for a long time and I think that's why a lot of players still stay around because it's diehard fans
- 24:55That will do anything for the team
- 24:57The next guy I want to talk about here is one of the most underrated free agent signings that I've seen so far that really
- 25:03Hasn't got as much press as I thought it would and that's Orlando Brown going to Cincinnati
- 25:08We all know the struggles of Cincinnati's offensive line over the course of the last two years
- 25:12You could argue it lost him a Super Bowl two years ago. They have made improvements
- 25:16You know, they went out and they got Alex Kappa. They got Laleh Collins
- 25:20But this is the biggest signing they have and in my opinion, it's not a pretty darn good deal
- 25:25It was a four-year deal. We're 64 million and only 31 of that is guaranteed
- 25:30So essentially it's a two-year 31 guaranteed deal or two-year 31 million dollar deal
- 25:35But the crazy thing to that about that to me, it's it's only the 10th highest contract for a left tackle
- 25:41Not even all the tackles but for a left tackle specifically in my opinion
- 25:45He he warrants a higher contract than 10th overall, but what a signing for the Bengals
- 25:51They really needed it. You know, the borough has that blindside protector now
- 25:55What are they gonna do with the right side? Are they gonna move Jonah Williams to the right side?
- 25:59He's come out and said he doesn't want to do that
- 26:01Granted I wouldn't either if there's a five to ten million dollar difference in the pay for them
- 26:05But they still also do have Laleh Collins sitting there
- 26:08So what they're gonna do there is up for discussion
- 26:10But if you look at it, the Bengals have a pretty solid offensive line
- 26:14The only real question mark is that left guard with Cordell Volson
- 26:17But outside of that, you know, you can make an argument
- 26:19They have a top seven top ten line in the league going into this year
- 26:23Yeah, and the interesting thing with Orlando Brown obviously probably underpaid
- 26:28But you know, Tyler, you're somebody who follows every free agent pickup and everything like that
- 26:34You know, I we're talking all the time about it and you didn't even know this one went through yet
- 26:37I brought this one up to you, which is kind of a shocker for me even and even with
- 26:41You know Orlando Brown, you can't say he's going to the Bengals to win his Super Bowl
- 26:47You know, he's taking a pay cut for what?
- 26:49There's no reason for him to be taking a pay cut at this stage right now
- 26:52Yeah, he's still very young
- 26:54I mean, you can you can argue that he's he's solidifying his future and still is going to be in Super Bowl contention
- 27:00Because the Bengals aren't going anywhere as long as number nine is behind center
- 27:03And you know, in his words, the prime of his career is this whole career
- 27:07Which you just I don't know
- 27:08I love Joe Burrow personally his whole swagger his demeanor
- 27:11And it's really, really good to see he finally has a solidified person to protect his blind side
- 27:16I mean, this Bengals offense is crazy as is now. We'll see what happens with T Higgins, but
- 27:21This is like I said in my opinion one of the most underrated signings in your right call that I didn't even know about it until a day afterwards
- 27:27Because it just didn't garner the press that I thought it would
- 27:31I will say you may say that he's not in it for the Super Bowls per se
- 27:35But he did tell Burrow quote I'm in this for Super Bowls
- 27:38That is what's most important to me. So I mean, we'll see he must believe that there's enough
- 27:44Left and I say left because Cincinnati has lost a couple big pieces on the field
- 27:49He has lost a couple big pieces on the other side of the ball this offseason
- 27:52But he must believe that there's enough left for the the Bengals to compete with the Chiefs for the AFC Championship
- 27:59Because right now it's those two and then obviously the Bills too. I mean, so I guess we'll just see what happens
- 28:05I think it's a great signing for the Bengals. Yeah, most definitely and even if he isn't, you know
- 28:11Going to get the Super Bowl. He got it last year. So he has one on the resume already
- 28:15So that might help with that decision as you were saying Cole like it certainly could yeah
- 28:19More so my point there too is like you almost think, you know, he's got a Super Bowl
- 28:24He's got a lot which you know most players that's the only thing they care about is getting that Super Bowl
- 28:28And like, you know, he's still the 10th
- 28:3010th paid
- 28:31You kind of think he might have went for more money, you know
- 28:33He might have went somewhere to get more money and yeah, I mean granted smell
- 28:37So you just brought that up that he's going there. He wants one another Super Bowl
- 28:39So that's I mean, that's intriguing
- 28:41If you're a Bengals fan you see him take a pay cut to come over and he still wants hungry for the Super Bowl
- 28:46Watch out for the Bengals this year. I mean, why did the Chiefs not resign?
- 28:49Could they just not afford him at that point?
- 28:51I mean if you're taking that much of a pay cut they must because I think he made 16 mil for the for the Chiefs last year
- 28:58So if you're taking that much of a pay cut, I mean they must not be able to
- 29:02Afford you. I mean you can't just lose a guy like that and he was already on a one-year deal with him
- 29:06Anyway, so I guess for him it absolutely worked out
- 29:09He not only won the Super Bowl but also secured
- 29:12I don't know if I would consider four years long term maybe for NFL. I'd say four years is a long-term contract at this point
- 29:19I mean he secured the bag playing one year and won the Super Bowl. I mean I'd be happy with that
- 29:25Yeah, it's uh
- 29:27You would think at one point of time four years wasn't a long deal in the NFL
- 29:30But you very rarely outside of the quarterback position see anything more than a four-year deal right now
- 29:35Especially with how the contracts are structured there any four-year deal is essentially a two-year deal if you look at the guarantees
- 29:42So it's like all that money is pretty much just front-loaded you get it up front
- 29:45And then we all know NFL contracts are kind of a myth right now with all these void years
- 29:49You can add on and restructure does the cap even really exist?
- 29:52That's a conversation for another time but to go back to your point about the Chiefs not being able to afford them
- 29:58One might think that however they signed it. Joanne Taylor to play
- 30:03Who's pretty much played right tackle his whole career to come in and play left tackle and gave him?
- 30:08Three and a half more million dollars per year than Orlando Brown got with Cincinnati
- 30:13So does that make sense to me? No, I would definitely take Orlando Brown over Joanne Taylor
- 30:18But the Chiefs could have afforded him because Orlando Brown's natural position is left tackle, right?
- 30:23So that's kind of sorry. I'll go for it. So so that's kind of up for debate, right?
- 30:28So when he was on the the Raven
- 30:29So he played he was projected to be a left tackle and coming out of the draft and going into the NFL
- 30:34But he was with the Ravens the Ravens already had Ronnie Stanley who was a solidified left tackle basically an all-pro
- 30:40So they kicked Brown to the right side then Stanley got hurt one year Brown kicked over to the left side and excelled
- 30:46You could argue played better than Stanley and the Ravens didn't want to pay him the left tackle salary to keep him and play right tackle
- 30:52So they traded him to the Chiefs to play and then the Chiefs played him as a left tackle
- 30:56See that's that's just crazy to me. I don't see why the Chiefs wouldn't lock this guy up long term if they have the money
- 31:02I mean, he's 26 years old
- 31:046 8 3 40 I mean
- 31:07He obviously did a good job protecting my homes last year. I don't I don't understand
- 31:13I guess we'll just find out but so back to
- 31:17Saying how four-year could be considered a long-term contract
- 31:21I think we might as well consider that a long-term contract because the average length of a player's career in the in the NFL is
- 31:28only 3.3 years
- 31:30So, I mean if you're signing a four-year contract shoot, I guess that's a long term
- 31:35You're making money playing football for four years
- 31:38When other players don't even make it three, I guess
- 31:41Yeah, I mean it's a long term for sure four years
- 31:45Anybody you see send four years how they're saying about the cap hit and all that and how you can restructure
- 31:50But you're seeing so many guys just extending and you don't really see just get locked down for a long term like that that four-year
- 31:55Pinpoint but playing left tackle though, like it's crazy
- 31:59The price difference between like a right tackle and a left tackle isn't is insane
- 32:03and that's what like I coach at a local high school here and
- 32:07We have this freshman. That's just a stud already and he he plays left tackle
- 32:11It's like we're trying to make sure he folk like gets in the weight room. It does doing all the right stuff
- 32:16You know because it's like dude, that's your that's your money maker right there
- 32:21You know and Sandra Bullock would 100% agree
- 32:24I mean, I would love for Sandra Bullock to come in and 100% agree. That's totally cool with me
- 32:30Like you got her number. Yeah, I do actually speed dial
- 32:33All right. We're talking after this we gotta get her in to talk to this kid
- 32:37The next thing I want to talk about here is not necessarily one player in particular
- 32:41But a team as a whole and that's the Denver Broncos
- 32:44We all know they got Sean Payton in at the helm as the coach this year
- 32:48But they made some moves on really day one of free agency in that legal tampering period
- 32:54Peyton builds in the trenches
- 32:56He made that well known going out and signing Mike McGlinchey
- 32:59Ben Powers and Zach Allen on the first day of free agency
- 33:03Now McGlinchey and Powers are on the offensive line. Allen's on the defensive line
- 33:07But McGlinchey got a five-year 87 and a half million dollar deal with 52 and a half guaranteed
- 33:12Which is the sixth highest for a right tackle and Ben Powers signed a four-year 51 million dollar deal with just under 30
- 33:20Guaranteed which is the tenth highest contract for a guard. So all together the the broncos put together over just under
- 33:28140 million dollars in their offensive line day one of free agency
- 33:33That's them showing that hey, we know we had the struggles last year
- 33:36We led the league in sacks aloud
- 33:38We need to put keep brussell upright and that starts in the trenches and then you look at zach allen
- 33:43On the defensive side of the ball. He's one of the most underrated defensive linemen in the league in my opinion
- 33:49He's never really gotten his due now granted
- 33:50He hasn't had the extreme stat line to have that but I was happy to see him sign a three-year
- 33:5545 and a half million dollar deal with 32 and a half guaranteed
- 34:00Which surprising to me was the 11th highest contract for a defensive end
- 34:03I think that's right right about where it should be for his level of talent. If you look at the guys above him
- 34:08they definitely are deserving and
- 34:11Should get that but the Broncos spent some money
- 34:15They also signed some ojipy run and Alex Singleton which aren't gonna make as big of a difference as the other three there
- 34:20But p Ryan coming in is that third down back, you know, he spelled Joe Mixon very well last year
- 34:25He's had a pretty good career in Cincinnati
- 34:27So for him to come in and spell givante Williams and then with Williams injury history if he does go down
- 34:32we know p Ryan can carry the load from a running perspective and still give you that third down threat and
- 34:37Alex Singleton, you know, he just said he's a depth player on the defense
- 34:41He's gonna provide some stability at the linebacker position
- 34:43But I'm really interested to see what happens with this Bronco offense specifically as we all know
- 34:49They were last in scoring and had the 21st total offense
- 34:52So it was it was pretty abysmal to watch and I personally am a Russell Wilson fan
- 34:57So I'd like to see him do better and I think Sean Payton is the the best coach you could possibly put him with the
- 35:02have him
- 35:03Maximize his career and really he's going to show that with this this first week of free agency and p Ryan to you touched on him
- 35:10I think he was pretty underrated last year. I thought he was a great back and on top of that, I'm
- 35:16Entirely with you on the Russell Wilson. It was tragic to see him go there and just have a horrific season everybody saying he's overpaid
- 35:23He's a great quarterback. Just give him a line let him work and I really hope he has a great season this year
- 35:28So the thing about Russell Wilson that made him so good in Seattle was his escape ability. I think like his
- 35:35ability to make plays outside the pocket like similar to Aaron Rodgers
- 35:39I mean Rodgers can still do it but and I believe
- 35:43Wilson can still do it too
- 35:44And I think we're gonna see that next year, but when he got outside the pocket this year in Denver, it was horrendous dude like
- 35:51Straight throwing picks or he's got guys wide open down the field instead
- 35:55He's taking a sack instead of even throwing the ball away
- 35:57I mean, so I'm a big Kirk Cousins fan and watching him in college at Michigan State
- 36:02Battle Russell Wilson at Wisconsin. I always loved those battles and Russell was just nasty then continued it with Seattle
- 36:09And I think he will go back to it next year
- 36:11But one thing I can say about Denver that I would do if I were them
- 36:16I don't know if I would have that dude cushion Barry starting at center
- 36:19I think if I'm Denver right now, they don't have a first or second round
- 36:23I would absolutely try to trade up into the early second if not late first because you might be able to steal a late first
- 36:30From like the Chiefs or something, but I think you trade up and get then this might be biased
- 36:36But he's slated to go first or second round the center out of the University of Minnesota
- 36:40John Michael Schmitz and just see what happens with him. I mean he's a five maybe even a six-year starter in the Big Ten
- 36:47That's enough for me
- 36:48Yeah, the interesting thing with Denver this year is just that is the line gonna be able to give him enough time where he can
- 36:55Set in the pocket and find those throwing lanes that will open up in this Peyton offense
- 36:59But you're right as soon as he got outside the pocket last year
- 37:02he looks absolutely just flustered scared like he just didn't belong and
- 37:06Granted the offensive concepts weren't the best receivers weren't can open a lot
- 37:10But there was plenty of times when you have Jerry Judy who has the catching radius of maybe
- 37:15second to Deandre Hopkins and
- 37:18Just missing him by five ten yards like just not something you see out of Wilson
- 37:23And yeah, it's just gonna be interesting to see what happens this year. Yeah, missing him by five ten yards
- 37:28It's definitely not a just miss. I mean you're clearly missing that dude
- 37:31So and I think it's gonna be different if they can get him a clean pocket
- 37:36So here's what I'm trying to say
- 37:37I guess if it's a clean pocket and and then he has to escape out of the pocket and try to make a play himself
- 37:43Whether it's downfield or with his feet
- 37:46He's gonna have a better chance of making a play. Whereas if he's running for his life every single snap
- 37:53Of course, he's not gonna be good out of the pocket because he's already worried about having to leave
- 37:58so if you do give him a good pocket and then he has to bounce it outside or something to
- 38:03Extend the play. I think he'll be much better this year. So I agree a hundred percent. They need a clean pocket right now
- 38:09Yeah, and that's that's the biggest thing is the Broncos had the most sacks allowed last year
- 38:13So the the offensive line play was just just pitiful
- 38:16But at the end of the day that was also Russell where in years before he would throw the ball away
- 38:21And he's just eating it and going down
- 38:22You know
- 38:23There was so many sacks that he was on the ground and they're just touching him
- 38:26That he just he he very rarely hit the receiver in stride outside the pocket
- 38:31He either went to the ground very rarely threw it away
- 38:34Missed the receiver by 10 15 yards or put it into a tight spot that got picked off
- 38:38It just wasn't the Russell Wilson. I'm accustomed to seeing and it was it was just weird. It was weird
- 38:44That's funny that you say weird because that's literally what I was gonna say. I was gonna say it's just weird
- 38:48Yeah, totally. He's not it's almost like he's not in the right headspace
- 38:53to be out there and I mean
- 38:55every quarterback in NFL is probably a headcase in general, but
- 38:59If you're good if you can control it, I mean cuz everything weighs on you, right?
- 39:04Like if you throw a pick up quarterback, you know had to have been if you get sacked and fumble
- 39:10Oh, that's definitely your fault, you know, so I mean
- 39:13everything there's a lot of pressure on quarterbacks and low-key kickers, but that's a whole nother conversation, but
- 39:19so I think he just hopefully this offseason he was able to clear his headspace and come into the season with a clear mind and
- 39:25new head coach and
- 39:27kind of a different direction
- 39:29Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree. I really do
- 39:31He needs to get whatever it was in Seattle that made him click needs to come back because even if you look at the second
- 39:37Half of his last year in Seattle now that year you can throw an asterisk next to it next to it because he did
- 39:43Have the thumb injury so he didn't have the throwing prowess that he couldn't he was limited
- 39:48But you saw the same thing last year as you did that second half of the year was Seattle and that was with no injury
- 39:54last year, he also
- 39:56But when he was at his best he also had a ridiculous defense in Seattle, too and there's something to be said about that
- 40:02Of course like how are you not gonna go out on the field when it's you know time for the offense to come out with?
- 40:07Just full of confidence knowing whatever you do
- 40:09Yeah, you're probably fine on the on the defensive drive the next drive. So I mean, how do you just I mean, yeah
- 40:16We'll see and to I mean, I think the Broncos have a very underrated defense
- 40:20So I think their defense definitely excels
- 40:22So it that's what's kind of tough because I mean Seattle you could definitely put some of it on the defense
- 40:27And obviously you're not doing that but you know, also the Broncos had that defense for him
- 40:31He needs to find the way to get the ball to receivers, right Patrick certain
- 40:362023 defensive player of the year AFC
- 40:39That's not a stretch by any way shape or form
- 40:41I just don't really see a cornerback winning it with these defensive edge linemen that we have that just to sack numbers
- 40:47They're putting up sauce Gardner, but yeah, he got rookie of the year. He didn't get defense
- 40:50Oh, you're right. You're right. Yeah, but the other thing with that Seattle team as well is every year
- 40:56He was in Seattle besides maybe the last two or three even the last two or three. They had a balanced run game, right?
- 41:01So they had Marshawn Lynch he could
- 41:04Obviously handle the rock and even last year with the Broncos now granted
- 41:08Javante Williams got hurt and he is a productive back when he's in there, but it was just a staple of backs
- 41:13Yeah, Latavious Murray Melvin Gordon Javante Williams
- 41:16They had some I think his name was like Adler or something that ended up playing running back for him
- 41:21So it's just it's they need to have more of that balance attack because if you look at the numbers
- 41:26This surprised the crap out of me, but they were the 18th best passing team in the league last year 21st rushing
- 41:33They just couldn't score. So that was their biggest issue
- 41:35I mean for there to be a tracker of how many bathrooms Russell Wilson has in his house for his touchdowns on the year is
- 41:41Absolutely just sterically funny, but at the end of the day, they just couldn't put the ball in the end zone
- 41:45Yeah, I mean, I think all of us can agree
- 41:48We wish Russell the best this next year and we hopefully he can figure it out
- 41:52And hopefully that team can figure it out cuz they have a bright future
- 41:54I mean you you brought up Gardner you brought up certain
- 41:58I mean another big talk we have to do is Ramsey and Waller obviously Ramsey being that other corner going to Miami
- 42:05That's huge. That is huge for him to head up over there. And I don't know that like how much better does this make this defense?
- 42:12How much better does do you think an addition like Jalen Ramsey makes this team? I think it's huge
- 42:17I mean the thing about Ramsey is I think he's
- 42:21Maybe not undoubtedly at this point the best cornerback in the league
- 42:25I think that's up for debate at this point
- 42:27But what all he does outside of just the cornerback position to affect the game on the defense side of the ball
- 42:32We touched on his tackles earlier. He pops into the slot
- 42:35He'll even play at the line of scrimmage covering up a tight end just what his Swiss Army knife
- 42:40Mentality brings to that defense the Dolphins don't really have you know, they got rid of Byron Jones
- 42:45So if you want to keep Ramsey at corner you have Ramsey and Xavier and Howard
- 42:49Which is in my opinion the best one to in the league and really it's not close to be quite honest with you in my opinion
- 42:55But the ability to move around the field and they have a young
- 42:59Talented playmaker in Javan Holland at that safety spot where he's just only gonna learn from Ramsey
- 43:04Where I think his career is gonna take the next step now, too
- 43:07So I think it's a huge huge addition and Ramsey. I mean that's it's exciting
- 43:12But also like if you're a Dolphins fan, it's even more exciting. You hate playing against that guy
- 43:17He is just infuriating to play against having me on your team all the trash talk how aggressive he is
- 43:23That's fun to be a Dolphins fan and have that addition and not only that just his overall leadership. He's a vocal leader
- 43:30He puts the team on the back. He doesn't make excuses
- 43:32You know, he's just he's an all-around team guy and just his overall just presence as long as it doesn't go like it did in
- 43:39Jacksonville, but if he keeps that presence in that that mentality that he had in LA
- 43:44I think he's just gonna excel back down in southern, Florida
- 43:47So the other thing about the Jalen Ramsey deals like the details of the trade is kind of weird. So
- 43:52LA only got a third round pick and some tight end named Hunter long
- 43:56So if we look at that trade for Jalen Ramsey remind remind you
- 44:01Compared to like Stefan Gilmore
- 44:03I think that was just a fifth round pick right and Darius Slay was about to be released and now obviously we know he
- 44:09Resigned a deal. What's the better play there if you're comparing those plays the Stefan Gilmore trade?
- 44:15Jalen Ramsey or
- 44:18Darius Slay staying with the Eagles. So Mike, I guess my question is who won did the Rams win this trade by what they got back
- 44:24for Jalen Ramsey
- 44:26Did the Colts get enough for Stefan Gilmore or?
- 44:29Or
- 44:30Did um
- 44:32What was the other one? I was just mentioning slay slay or did the Eagles win being able to keep slay there?
- 44:38Yeah, I mean it in my opinion. It's the difference in talent between the three cornerbacks. We're speaking of right now
- 44:46Ramsey's far and away the best one. He's still in the prime of his career. They got it was only a third rounder now
- 44:51I want to know if the details have come out of if
- 44:54LA has to keep any of that salary for this year because if it was just for a third rounder in some no-name tight end
- 44:59Like that's who wouldn't take that deal, but I think they would what I wanted to kind of point on here is
- 45:06Jalen Ramsey going to the Rams kind of started the whole less need fuck them picks
- 45:12Stigma and now look what he's doing. There's talks of Matt Stafford being traded away
- 45:17Ramsey just got traded away for just a measly third rounder
- 45:21So I think he's still kind of keeping that idea of fucked them picks because he only got a third rounder for you know
- 45:27undoubtedly no questions asked a top five quarterback in the NFL and
- 45:32Yeah, in my opinion, it's it's it's the Dolphins all day with any of those three moves
- 45:36And yeah, especially the Dolphins a hundred percent and as far as fitting a scheme and actually making the team a much bigger
- 45:45Contender for the Super Bowl. It's the Dolphins all day there and on top of like on top of these crazy picks, right?
- 45:50We're talking crazy picks. We're talking third rounders fifth rounders for great players
- 45:55We got to bring up the last guy here is Darren Waller
- 45:59We already touched on a little bit earlier
- 46:00But just went for a third round pick to the Giants and I don't know if you guys saw but him and Daniel Jones
- 46:06Dabbing up when they first met this is wild
- 46:09These two hopefully they get a long better than they did the first time around because these two look like fifth graders
- 46:16I've not seen that as a pretty good it you gotta give it a little gotta give it a watch if you haven't okay
- 46:20It'll crack you up. It's the most like awkward interaction
- 46:24Maybe outside of the Cardinals coach when he met Rondell Moore just going me room
- 46:30That was just hysterical, but Daniel Jones is probably the whitest person you could possibly have in the history of the world
- 46:37Then just that interaction was just hilarious
- 46:40Man, I mean his name is Daniel
- 46:42Yeah, we look we look at it like this too. I mean we have Daniel Jones
- 46:48Who had a big uplift of a season last year?
- 46:51I think he put just performed a ton better last year than his previous year and
- 46:55Now you got Darren Waller at tight end after just losing Evan Ingram
- 47:00I think this is a huge upgrade not only for Daniel Jones as a quarterback, but also for this offense
- 47:06100% and arguably it's an upgrade for Darren Waller
- 47:09I mean he gets a chance to join a playoff team because again it hurts my soul that they beat the Vikings, but
- 47:17That was a different Giants team. I think Saquon coming back on that franchise tag. He's motivated
- 47:22I think Daniel Jones on a fresh deal. He's motivated bringing Darren Waller. You give him a give him a target now
- 47:28I think that's interesting
- 47:30One small thing I wanted to bring up with Darren Waller not to bring like drama into it, right?
- 47:35But apparently like right before the trade apparently Josh McDaniel's head coach
- 47:41the Raiders and Darren Waller were not getting along because apparently
- 47:46McDaniel's like allegedly like put something out there about Darren Waller getting married to his WNBA
- 47:53Now wife, but yeah, so that that speculation was at the at the draft the combine
- 47:59McDaniel said that and they didn't want to go public with it
- 48:02Right neither one of them wanted it to be public and McDaniel's came out and said that but did you see Kelsey Plumb's?
- 48:07Response on Twitter to McDaniel's no, it was funny
- 48:10so they tweeted like it was like oh story of the day whatever it was like
- 48:14The reason Waller went to the the Giants had something to do with this and then Kelsey Plumb responded
- 48:19It was some of the lines of like this was all because he wasn't invited
- 48:23That's crazy wedding. I mean she was just throwing a jab
- 48:27It was all and like she was joking about it, but it was just funny that that's how she responded
- 48:31It was like she just took a jab at an NFL head coach
- 48:33And it's funny because McDaniel's was at Max Crosby's wedding allegedly
- 48:38So that's why it was kind of a big deal like oh, come on like blah blah blah
- 48:41So I think it just got blown out of proportion, but then like a day later
- 48:46Kind of after that service then Darren Waller got traded might not have been a day
- 48:49But it was quickly not not that long after that and he came out quote. It caught me off guard
- 48:55That's wild. I don't think it caught you off guard like you kind of figured you were probably leaving Vegas
- 49:00however, like
- 49:02He married a WNBA player that plays for Vegas
- 49:06So you kind of were like planning on rooting your life there probably re-signing, you know, whatever and now you're traded to the Giants, but
- 49:13One one more thing where what do you got? Oh, okay
- 49:17Oh one more thing I was gonna say is the Giants actually reworked Darren Waller's contracts today this morning
- 49:23So they create the Giants created seven point four mil in cap space just this morning
- 49:28So that's pretty freaking cool to be traded there and all of a sudden you're already down to make more space. I mean
- 49:35To me that's somebody that's trying to win
- 49:37Yeah, and everything you just kind of said there about him wanting to stay in Vegas
- 49:41Just exemplifies who Darren Waller is and what the the change in his life that he made since he's been with Raiders
- 49:48I've been a huge Darren Waller fan since like Madden three or four years ago when he was on the Ravens
- 49:53And he had like a 93 speed and there was one play that was broken in the game
- 49:58You could just score every time if you had a fast-eyed end
- 50:01But I've kind of followed his story since then and he's been on bussing with the boys a couple times and just talked about
- 50:06His sobriety and how we found you know his headspace back right again
- 50:11Gave up the drugs and alcohol and then completely turned his life around and that's when he started being productive in the NFL
- 50:16So I'm forever a Darren Waller fan. I mean he even has some pretty good. He's a music producer as well
- 50:21So he's a rapper he makes music and that's halfway decent as well wouldn't say it's as good as his football career
- 50:27He's definitely in the right profession
- 50:29But at the end of the day I mean to think that he got traded for a third-round pick too
- 50:33You know it was it's still it's a bag of balls for these high-profile players
- 50:37Yeah, this is a top three tight end arguably definitely when healthy yeah when that's just it when healthy the dudes got to stay on
- 50:44the field though, but that's funny that you mentioned the third round like
- 50:48Why are trades just not valued as high right now?
- 50:51You know like it just seems weird that we're getting like you said high-profile players
- 50:56And it feels like teams aren't giving up much unless a lot of these teams are keeping some of the salary
- 51:01Maybe that's part of it, but I don't know you guys both said healthy
- 51:05I mean we also have Saquon Barkley who has had his injury written. You know he's been injured all the time
- 51:11I mean, this is the bad news bears. This is the little Giants
- 51:15You know if they can figure it out they could be a real contender, but if not it's just another season for the Giants
- 51:20That's the thing it's the Giants this year. They've made some moves to add to this offensive talent
- 51:26They obviously resigned Daniel Jones franchise tagged Saquon
- 51:30They resigned Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepherd, and they brought in Paris Campbell
- 51:34You know they're making moves
- 51:36They're trying to show that they're they're trying to build this team around Daniel Jones
- 51:41And what better to bring in undoubtedly a top five tight end talent when healthy than Darren Waller
- 51:46And Brian Dayball is the most underrated coach
- 51:49I think he was so underrated at Buffalo as an offensive coordinator and to be honest
- 51:54I'm a Bills fan the only New York team
- 51:56But wherever Brian Dayball goes I will follow him
- 52:00I think that guy is amazing, and I love what he did for the Giants this year in that offense
- 52:03I was just gonna say I think signing resigning Daniel Jones was huge
- 52:07I mean why not take a chance on the guy? I mean he's brought your franchise back into the playoffs
- 52:12Yes, they were only at nine wins, but you still won your first playoff game
- 52:16So I I kind of like them taking that chance on Daniel Jones cuz I was kind of curious all offseason like are they gonna sign them?
- 52:23Kind of like the same with the Seahawks and Geno Smith like I was curious
- 52:26It was like are they gonna sign him or not and they decided to take a chance on him on a four-year deal
- 52:30And I think it's totally worth it. You might as well find out what he's got
- 52:34Yeah, I would wholeheartedly agree. I mean he's a he's a he's a top six pick
- 52:38So you have you've invested very high draft capital in the guy
- 52:43He hasn't really had a solid foundation behind him in the front office or coaching staff since he's been there
- 52:49He has one year under Brian Dayball, and he gets a 40 million dollar deal
- 52:53Like it's that it's just in my opinion
- 52:56He just needed the structure around him and he needed a coach that was truly bought into him
- 53:00And can find ways to maximize his potential. We always knew we had the running prowess
- 53:05No, he's not Lamar by any means
- 53:07But he has the running prowess and Dayball was able to come in and schematically just find avenues and ways that he can get the ball downfield a little bit
- 53:15And then still have that that read option type ability and then with Saquon doing what Saquon did this year that obviously helped kind of lighten the load
- 53:23But yeah, it's it's I'm a huge Brian Dayball fan as a whole
- 53:27But I think this is gonna be a huge move for the Giants
- 53:30Does Daniel Jones kind of feel a little bit like Eli Manning to you like same type of like how he carries himself type of deal
- 53:36And then even his play on the field or am I just like seeing blue with the Giants and like off base there?
- 53:43I think you got to make some sort of comparison
- 53:45I mean Eli, you know, he had they have each other's numbers when he made it to playoffs
- 53:49He was taking advice from Eli. He definitely has a mentorship play style
- 53:53I would argue it's it's different but I mean as far as like the headspace the way they approach the field they approach the game
- 53:59They read the game. I mean, it's like every quarterback, you know, when you have great quarterbacks followed Grapplo and Tom Brady, right?
- 54:06You're gonna keep a lot of that same mental. So I think in that case, yes. Yeah, I would agree with you there
- 54:11I mean different play styles
- 54:12I would say completely just because Daniel Jones is like Eli Manning never had a running prowess. Hey, whoa, whoa
- 54:19Eli had his moments though. He would he would take off sometimes
- 54:23I'm not saying he's you know speedster by any means but the difference there though
- 54:28Eli Manning has never once had a defense put a spy on him
- 54:33Fair enough. Yeah. No, I mean
- 54:37That actually cracks me up. Yeah, if a defense ever put a spy on Eli Manning that absolutely cracked me up
- 54:42Yeah, I mean a spy on Eli Manning just means Eli's going deep, right? I mean Eli's going deep. He's no Lamar Jackson
- 54:48But neither is Daniel Jones by me. Yeah, definitely different, but he'll catch you off guard. He'll take off and run and
- 54:54Ten twenty yards. I mean, he's a he'll at least get you a first down. You're not planning on it. He's Tom Brady, right?
- 55:00He's smart, you know understands football. He'll see when there's a huge hole opens up
- 55:04He'll run up and take those extra yards and not the same quarterbacks Tom Brady obviously, but like the whole running thing
- 55:10I mean if you're talking about running styles him and Tom Brady very similar in this fact that like oh
- 55:14No, where else to go might as well run up and get three yards. Are you meaning Daniel Jones or Eli right now?
- 55:19He's meaning Tom Brady. I mean Eli and Tom Brady as well. Okay. Okay
- 55:26I thought you were comparing Daniel Jones and Tom Brady's running right now and I'm like nooooo
- 55:30Okay, good. Good. Okay, sweet. Yeah. Yeah, same page now. All I was saying there was
- 55:36Eli Manning Tom Brady the way they run is the same way. Yes, Eli may break off for 20
- 55:40So will Tom Brady but guess what? It's going two miles an hour and it's where there's nobody within 35 yards
- 55:47For sure. No, I got what you're saying. So I mean as far as it all goes definitely
- 55:52Could be a huge year for the Giants this year. Hopefully they shape up to something. I mean they have the coach they have the offense now
- 55:59They've had the defense you could argue. So we'll see what they do. They definitely have the defense. They were a top
- 56:0410 you could argue top five defense last year. Wing Martindale is just really really good at what he does
- 56:14All right fellas enough about the free agency and offseason news so far
- 56:19Let's talk a little bit about the best remaining free agents
- 56:22We're gonna take some time here and just pick out one player
- 56:25Maybe two players or a position group that we want our personal home favorite teams here to target
- 56:30I'm gonna kick this segment off and we all know the Packers are in desperate need of some receiving threats
- 56:36We have a really good tight end still on the market in Dalton Schultz
- 56:39And then a kind of a wide array of receivers available with the biggest one being OBJ, but let's be honest
- 56:45He's not coming to Green Bay, but I think someone like Dalton Schultz would be a good fit
- 56:49We don't have a solidified tight end on our team with Robert Tunian signing with the Bears
- 56:53I just think Dalton Schultz would give us some stability at the position bring some veteran leadership
- 56:58into our receiving room and give Jordan Love that target on third down in that seam where he can just find that big target across the middle
- 57:07So he doesn't have to look for those young weapons on the outside, but I would I would love a Dalton Schultz signing
- 57:12Even something a little bit less noticeable and Austin Hooper would come in and bring that veteran leadership and still give us that seam
- 57:20That third down target. He's just not gonna stretch the field as much as someone like Dalton Schultz
- 57:24Me myself being a Bills fan right now. It's kind of over the place
- 57:29Obviously, we lost Edmonds, but I think the biggest thing we haven't signed back Singletary yet
- 57:34A huge addition would be somebody like Zeke. Now Zeke is great. I don't think he's the biggest addition we can make
- 57:41Obviously, I think we can make some moves and go after like a Dalton Cook, but we'll see what happens
- 57:46I would be more than happy still with Zeke
- 57:48Yeah, so first off, Dalton's not going anywhere first off as far as I know right and I would love to have him here
- 57:54I love him and Madison being a one-two punch kind of similar to Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon in Green Bay
- 58:00And as far as Zeke goes, I think that would be an amazing signing for the Buffalo Bills
- 58:04He is second in red zone rushing touchdowns behind only Jamal Williams who had 14, Zeke had 12
- 58:11If you include receiving touchdowns for running backs and then receivers and then Travis Kelsey because no other tight end was close
- 58:17Zeke still comes out to be third overall in red zone touchdowns with only Eckler passing him up because Eckler had like five receiving touchdowns or something like that
- 58:25So I think that would be a good move for the Bills
- 58:28As far as my Vikings go, I'd love for them to sign OBJ. He would pair well with JJ, KJ, TJ, put OBJ in there
- 58:37I think that would go well. I don't see it happening, but I'd be cool with it
- 58:42I would love the Vikings to sign Gardner Johnson. Again, I don't think we have any room right now to make a move like that
- 58:49But Cameron Bynum is not it. Harrison Smith is getting older. Gardner Johnson is young. Lock him up. Again, probably not going to happen
- 58:58I see him going to Cincy or the Dolphins and the Dolphins are going all in
- 59:02I mean they're taking full advantage of Tua's rookie contract. You see them trade for Jalen Ramsey
- 59:08I do see Gardner Johnson signing there next week or sometime in the near future
- 59:13And then him teaming up with Jalen, Xavier Howard, Javon Holland
- 59:17I mean, God, I mean, watch out for the Dolphins for sure, but as far as my Vikings go
- 59:23Don't look for them to make any more moves as far as adding key names
- 59:28Well as a Packers fan smelty, I hope you don't get any of the guys you just noticed
- 59:33Your team is right where it needs to be for the Packers to take that NFC North crown
- 59:38That's why the Packers will finish last in the NFC North next season
- 59:41Doubt that, but that's for a conversation for another day
- 59:45But I had an absolute pleasure today, boys
- 59:47One thing to note is we are recording this episode on St. Patrick's Day
- 59:51It won't be released until next week, so if any of these players do get signed
- 59:56Obviously just take that with a grain of salt and we do apologize, we can't predict the future
- 1:00:00But I had an absolute pleasure today, boys, can't thank you guys enough for joining me
- 1:00:04And can't thank you all enough for listening to us here at home
- 1:00:07Until next time, fellas
- 1:00:09Don't forget to follow, like and subscribe
- 1:00:13Tune in next time for more banter with the boys
