Karen: It was a summer, which I'm hoping these are the stories we're bringing to you, a summer of concerts and festivals Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: and fun and rocking the life. So this season Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Karen: we're looking forward to sharing more of those fan experiences and to Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: start with talking about how amazing the summer was for music. Amy: So amazing. my gosh. You guys, this episode is the perfect welcome back episode So everybody's been asking. I made a post about it, but here we're gonna chat with a new friend that I met at Rockstar Reset. her name is Sana, and we had a blast. It was so great getting to know her. So much fun being in Spain, experiencing all of that, and then of course just the rock star reset. It was phenomenal. Karen: me it's a whole idea of what music is doing and it's bringing together a community. So wherever Amy: Yep. Karen: we've traveled and hearing the stories of what people have done, it's what the music is doing is building a community. So let's get ready to hear from her. Amy: Yeah, amen. Yep. Yeah, you guys, here's a Karen: Hisanna. Amy: XANA! Karen: Hello. Welcome to Rock the Life. How are you? Xana: Hi hi! I'm fine, how are you guys? Karen: Good. So in this one, we have to start that these Amy and Sonna met at the Rockstar Risa recently in Spain, which I sadly wasn't Amy: We did it! Karen: a part of, but I cannot wait to hear the stories. I want to hear all about your involvement in heat. I want to hear about the stories and like so much more. We have so we have so many questions to ask you. But everything understood, it was an amazing week in Spain. Xana: Absolutely, yeah, one of the best. Yeah, so many nice people. Yeah, it was amazing. Karen: So as we're recording this, are we three weeks out from Spain from the trip? Two weeks, ten days. my Xana: 10 days actually, yeah. Amy: Yeah. Karen: gosh. Okay. So totally fresh in your mind. But before we get into that, I have to ask you, when did you go from listening to heat like on your playlist to really getting into them and like going to their concerts and being a part of like the heat crew? Xana: Well, actually quite instantly, I think. Because I had discovered them through YouTube and I saw some live versions on YouTube. yeah, live they sound so much better even. So yeah. Karen: Which which song caught your which song on YouTube caught you? Xana: That's a good question. I think it's probably Rise. Kenny's version. Yeah. Amy: Mmm. Karen: Okay. Okay. And when did you first see them in concert? When did you see them live? Or have you seen them live? okay. Okay. Xana: Yeah, I have seen them live many times now. First Amy: you Xana: time will be around this time last year. Yeah. Karen: Okay. And where was that show? Amy: Wow. Xana: In Milan. In Italy. Yeah. Karen: That is so I was living in Italy at the time, but instead I went to the show in Germany, the last show in Germany in Essen. Xana: there too yeah because I live very close Amy: my gosh. Xana: to Essen I live like an hour out I'm very close to the German border Karen: Awesome. Okay, so we'll have to talk about that show. I'm making a note to myself. We're gonna talk about that show in a bit. Okay, Amy. Amy: Okay. You're not gonna say it Xana: Good. Amy: now? Cause I know what you're gonna say. I wanna know too. Okay, okay, okay, okay, fair. Karen: No, I'm gonna wait. I'm gonna wait for that. Okay. So how many have you seen them more than once in the shows last year? Or was this like your first your first time? Because this was my first time seeing them was last year, seeing them live. Xana: Yeah, mine too. But I saw them in Milan. went to the Netherlands. Yeah, that's close to me. I went to the show in Belgium, which was actually the furthest I had to travel or the longest. OK, Milan Amy: Wow. Xana: aside, but I was going there. was Karen: Besides Milan. Xana: there in Milan and said, hey, OK, there's a show here. So let's go there. And then I saw them in ESE and afterwards. This year I saw them in Valencia and in Andernach Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: I was thinking about that. Xana: and in Cartagena Rock Imperium. Yeah, which was amazing. Karen: Okay, so from this last year, is there any special moment from the shows when you think back? It really makes you smile. Xana: I think they entered the stage with disaster. yeah, disaster, but it's not a disaster. It's just great fun. I really love Amy: Right? The energy, I can't wait. Xana: that energy. And it is like the first time I saw them, was like this rush of energy on stage once they enter stage. And yeah, that's just amazing. It's just amazing. Amy: Wow. Karen: When you see them play, where are you? Are you at the front? Are you at the back? Where do you where do you like to watch them? Xana: I like to be in front, but it's not always possible. You have to be Karen: I agree. Xana: really, really early. Yeah. Karen: Really, really early. Yes. Not to say from the Essence show, I watched them from a balcony in the back, like looking down on them. I Xana: yeah. Karen: know someone told me that's where to stand, so that's where I stood. And it was actually fun, but I do like being closer too. So that is. Xana: Mm-hmm, yeah. Karen: which any of the shows really stand out for you otherwise too, that like from the last year? Xana: the show in Belgium was pretty cool. I wasn't actually planning on going there, but yeah, I got invited by one of the guys. I, so I was there and the moments before the show started were actually the most fun because the whole crowd that was already there started singing. They just started singing. Amy: awesome. Xana: I think it was a Bon Jovi song, but I'm not sure anymore. We all started singing and we kept on singing because there were, yeah, a lot of good songs playing. yeah, Brian, one of the guitar takes came out and he started filming us. So the guys backstage saw us and then, of course, yeah, Amy: Awwww. Xana: that was a pretty amazing show. Yeah, I really loved it. Karen: Okay, so when you said Amy: Hmm. Karen: invited by one of the guys, do you mean by one Amy: You Karen: of the guys in the band? Xana: Yeah, yeah, by Jimmy. Yeah, I do this wood burning thing. Maybe you've seen it on my Instagram. Yeah, Karen: I've seen your talent, yes. Xana: so I did their album cover. Well, not the one where all five guys are. I think they're actually on the back. It's not the cover. That picture, I stenciled it on wood and then burned it. So I gave him that as a present and that got me invited to the Belgian show Amy: Nice. Xana: Yeah Amy: Nice. Karen: Some the things you put on your Instagram was like I know you said it, but it was so perfect. Like when you're coming down after the show and then you drew these beautiful pictures or and I was just like, Yeah, that's a way to keep the memory going. Xana: Yeah, yeah, I just love to make that kind of, yeah, those kind of pieces from my own pictures. They're not perfect, but I love it. I just love to do it. Karen: Beautiful. that is Amy: Amazing. Karen: so now, when you've traveled around going to the heat shows, do you are you going by yourself? Are you meeting up with people or who are you what are you who are you meeting up with at the shows? Xana: I either go by myself or I bring my mom. My mom's a huge fan too. So yeah, we Amy: mm-hmm. I remember. Xana: do this together. yeah, sometimes I meet people that I've seen at other shows, yes, but it wasn't like we were meeting up. That's definitely gonna Karen: Okay. Xana: happen now after the reset, yeah. Amy: Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Karen: You met so is there a big Belgium heat following? Xana: I don't really know. I don't think so. Karen: Okay, I'm really Xana: Yeah. Karen: interested to know like where like which other countries it's really they're really big in. Amy: Spain. Xana: I don't think they're that big in Belgium, even though I think this show was sold out. But I've seen a lot of people that have seen a lot of shows in the Belgian show, so. Amy: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Karen: But maybe yeah, maybe for their next round I need to actually do the European tour 'cause it's a lot easier to do than the American tour from, you know, coast to coast. Xana: Hahaha Karen: So that was it. Okay, so tell us now, I want to get a bit into the rock star reset. How did it happen? Like when you first heard about it, were you immediately in or did you think about it and take your time signing up? Xana: No, immediately in. Yeah, Amy: Yay. Xana: I didn't think twice about it. Literally, Amy: Don't think, just do. Xana: I just, okay, so Don sent the message, I think it's happening or something with the title of the email, and I thought, okay, it's happening, rock. And I booked, yeah, that's it. Amy: I love that. I love that. Karen: Now, had you been there before to Malaga or Stopona in that area? Xana: Malaga, yes, Estepona, no. I have Karen: Okay, same. Xana: some dogs that I adopted from Malaga, so... Karen: Okay, so Amy: I love it. Karen: you've okay. So what was when did you get into Spain? Were you there on Saturday or Sunday? When 'cause the Rockstar reset was Sunday to Thursday, correct me if I'm wrong, right? And a lot of people came in on Saturday? Sunday to Friday. Okay. Xana: Sunday to Friday. Yeah, no, I came in on Sunday morning. Karen: Okay. Xana: Yeah. Amy: That's when we met. Karen: First impressions. Xana: Yeah, first impressions. I met Amy. So we Amy: You Xana: shared our shuttle to the hotel and we just kept on talking. So yeah, the whole way. Yeah, we chatted the whole way. So yeah, our Amy: The whole way. Poor Luis. Xana: driver, also. Yeah, it was just great fun. mean, I think we were both a bit nervous and that's why we chatted so much maybe. Amy: Mm-hmm. Xana: But it was a great way to get to know each other. yeah, that way when we came there, there was already a familiar face, you know. Because yeah, we went by ourselves. Most of the people there came by themselves. Amy: Yeah. Xana: So that was interesting, I think. So Amy: think it made it really good. Karen: No, and Xana: yeah. Karen: it's a way to bring people together, which is super like in as I've seen about some of the shows like by myself. And it's so much nicer when you have people, you just need that connection to talk to people and you find out how much you have in common or like what you love doing. So Xana: Absolutely. Karen: that that was a okay, so let's talk about the workouts. What were they like? Xana: I think they were a lot of fun Karen: Because we're so only about Amy: They were. Karen: a dozen people in this world know what the Rockstar reset was and experienced Xana: Yeah. Karen: it. So you two have to talk about it to tell us a bit of what it was. what Xana: Hahaha. Karen: like what what were some of the workouts? Like what were you expecting and what was the reality of it? Xana: yeah, good question. What was I expecting? I didn't know what to expect because I Amy: Yeah, same. Xana: think we already saw in our WhatsApp group that exploded the minute it started. That Amy: Who did? Xana: there was a very huge variety of skills regarding fitness. So I think Henrikhade... quite a bit of a challenge, making every workout fit for all the people that were involved. So I think that was great. He did Karen: Okay. Xana: a great job making Amy: He did it really well. Yeah. Xana: it available for everyone, making it, how do you say that? Like, yeah, doable, yeah. I think that that Amy: doable doable for everybody yeah Xana: was very important for everyone to see what they are capable of doing. Amy: Mm-hmm. Xana: which they maybe didn't know about. I Amy: Yeah. Xana: I think I lifted two kettlebells. I think they were 26 kilos each. I didn't Amy: Wow. Xana: think I could do that, but I did it. Amy: Yeah. Is, are you, did you, was that when they were all lined up in the row when we did that exercise where we placed four in a row? Yeah. Yeah. I really Xana: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Amy: liked that. I surprised myself with that too. just a little, like for people who might not know, like Rockstar reset, the goal of it was basically like combining fitness, health and wellness and rock. And so all of our rock, all of our workouts were set to eighties rock, heat. They're not 80s, but I think they qualify. So it was so much fun. Like every workout Karen: Born in the eighties. Amy: was, you know, really hot in a heat wave. Shit. was the temperature was high outside. What do we say to that? was Xana: Yeah, yeah, yeah. The most heat. It was hot. Karen: Fine. Amy: hot. But, you know, it just... It was, it was, the workouts were very well designed. And I think Henrik was really good with incorporating play so that it didn't always quite feel like a workout for the warmups. And there was a variety. don't think we repeated the same thing twice because I think he wanted to give us a variety that we could choose our favorites and take them home. At least that's what I did. So yeah. Karen: No, that's so Xana: Yeah, absolutely. Me too. Karen: t tell me something you learned about Amy. Xana: I learned about Amy, she's a badass. my god. Yeah, really, truly. I really think so. She's badass. She can do anything. She can do anything. And she's just the sweetest person. Amy: You're gonna make me cry. Xana: Yeah. Karen: What? Amy: She knows my sass and my bitch, so... Karen: No, I agree. I agree. No, I agree. I'm just giving her a hard time. Xana: No, Amy: my gosh. Xana: I mean, yeah, she got hurt and she just kept on going. I mean, yeah, you have to be pretty badass to do that. So Amy: No. Xana: and I like to believe that we all tried to help you as much as we could. But Amy: Yes. Xana: yeah, I think I think so. And Amy: Yeah. Xana: I think just that was the magic of the group. I mean, Amy: Yeah. Xana: you put 17. Well, 17, Karen: How many people were there? Seventeen? Xana: 17. Amy: 17. Xana: Participants and then yeah Hendrik and Krash and then Viktor as well. So put 20 people together and I mean there wasn't any hard words. There were no fights There was no gossiping not that I heard of I agree, I agree or maybe it actually Karen: That's not very rock star. What? Wanted the tea! Amy: Yeah. you Xana: is maybe it actually is and because Amy: Right? Right. Xana: Rockstars can be badass, but I mean come on. They're all really nice people aren't they? I mean the ones I met Yeah, right Yeah, so Amy: Yeah. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you know, Karen: say 90%, 90%. I'm gonna go for 90%. Amy: can I, I just have to tell you, Xana, what really impressed me about you was your strength. I mean, I know that you're active a lot through your life with dogs and some rollerblading and all of the things that you do. But when you wore that yellow dress, I was like, my gosh, you just. Karen: We include a picture of this. Amy: We'll get one. Xana: You Amy: You just rocked it. And I was so like, it was, Xana: thank you. Amy: it was gorgeous. And again, you were just one of those people who I felt like could do anything. And I admire you for that. I really do. So it was it was a really good time. It was just, Xana: Thank you so much. That's so nice. See, she's so sweet. Amy: it was a good time. And I felt like it was so great to get to know everybody and and, you know, all that. Xana: Yeah, I agree. Totally agree. Karen: And so did you go on the hike? Amy: Mm. Xana: Yes. Karen: Okay, so on Instagram or you know, following along with like the Rockstar Risa Instagram site, Dawn Crash posts like some really fun videos of this Xana: Yeah. Karen: hike. Aerial views and people so d tell just tell us about the hike because Amy missed it. So sorry, Amy: I did. Xana: Yeah. Karen: Amy, but I want to hear about this hike because that seemed like a really cool video. Amy: Me too! Yeah. Xana: The hike was hard. It was hard. Yeah, when we when we asked like is it yeah, Amy: This was supposed an easy hike. Xana: is it gonna be easy? yeah, it's not that hard. It's not that hard. We Amy: you Xana: started and we went like this. So it went up immediately. It was a lot of fun though. I mean, it was hard. yeah, you're with friends. You're you're just making the best of it and we were actually lucky the sun wasn't out more because I think that could have done some serious damage but it was I think it was hard but it was a lot of fun I truly liked the hike and I liked them pretty hard but this was like really kicking our butts Karen: How many how many hours was it? Xana: I think it was about three hours and we did 11 Amy: Yeah. Xana: kilometers. So yeah, yeah, it was Karen: Eleven kilometers. That's a good hike. Amy: Yeah. Yeah. Xana: pretty intense. But yeah, again, some of the people were a bit slower. We just waited. Some people wanted to go a bit faster. I do like to have my own pace when you're going up and downhill. So waiting Karen: You have to. Xana: is not always Amy: Yeah. Xana: as... good for your legs as just walking ahead. So yeah, Karen: Yeah. Xana: when we were on a little bit of a flatter surface, we then waited for the rest to come and yeah, Amy: How to dance party. Xana: had a dance party, absolutely, when we were on top. So yeah, we played some songs. I blasted some from Amy: awesome. Xana: my phone and then we started dancing. And Amy: That was so awesome. Xana: yeah, like you said, Katja, the don't... took some video with his drone. Let's say you saw the nicest clips. Amy: Hahaha! Karen: Not everyone like, Xana: Because, Amy: You Xana: yeah, no. Well, we did Amy: It's Xana: the horns, of course, but we also used other fingers. So yeah, that wasn't in the clip. Amy: I love that. Karen: You know, for people who don't know, like that part of southernish Spain, even though it was end of September, beginning of October, it's still really hot. I mean, that's why the beach Amy: It's hot. It's hot. Xana: Yeah. Karen: resorts are there, that's why people go down there because it is eternal summer down there. It gets really hot. Okay, so Xana: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, it was pretty hot and on that hike we were fortunate that the sun wasn't out more, that it was a bit of a cloudy Amy: Yeah. Xana: day. It was still hot in temperature, but not with the sun out, so that was, we were lucky. Because I think Karen: So if Xana: that would have been even harder. Karen: Even har Amy: Yeah. Karen: so if that was one of the toughest workouts, what was one of your favorite workouts? Amy: Mine was the last one. Xana: well, when, yeah, the last one was pretty fun, but I also liked the one when, when, when the rest of the group went to the shelter. we also had a workout, which were just six Amy: I want to hear about this. Yeah. Xana: people. which was pretty fun because it was a bit more tailor made. and that was, that was a lot of fun. And we also got to share some stuff. so that was. That was really nice. So yeah, I didn't go to the shelter. Maybe I should point that out a little bit because I love dogs. Absolutely. I work with dogs. I'm a behaviorist. But I decided not to go to the shelter because I am with dogs like 99 % of my life. And I thought, Karen: Yeah, for your okay, fair. Xana: okay, maybe for this time, I don't need that as much as I want. I would want to go, Amy: Yeah. Xana: yes, absolutely, but I would want to take them all. I can't. I don't have Amy: Yeah. Xana: space nor money to do that. But yeah, so I decided to stay at the resort and do the work out instead, which I think for me was better at that time. Karen: Which were that sounds wonderful. Amy: I was torn. Like, I do not regret going to the shelter at all, but at the same time, I was like, that time with Henrik probably would have been really good. So I'm glad Xana: Mm-hmm. Amy: to hear that it was. He's an amazing trainer. He's just... Xana: Yeah, absolutely, I agree. Karen: So and I think that with some context, it was Don Crash, the musician from Heat, and Henrik who is Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: a personal trainer who was running the retreat and Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Karen: running actually running the workouts. He's a person Amy: Mm-hmm. Xana: Mm-hmm. Karen: he's a personal trainer. He knows stuff. Okay, so it wasn't Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: just about training. do you have any special evening activities that you really enjoyed from the week? Xana: The karaoke was a lot of fun. Amy: So fun. Xana: On the last night, on Thursday night, we all went out to a rock bar where they had Thursday night karaoke. So, yeah, we had a blast singing and we all sang Living on the Run by Heat. that was Amy: Best. huh. huh. Yep. Xana: for me, that was one of the most memorable things we ever did. Amy: Yeah. Xana: And I'm so glad there's video evidence of that. Amy: I know, I know, I- Karen: What was your what was it what is your karaoke song? What did you sing? Xana: I sang We Are The Champions, Queens, We Are Amy: Yeah? Xana: The Champions with Camila. Yeah, Karen: That's a good one. That's a good sing along. Okay. Yeah. Xana: and then I did some other songs, but honestly, I don't remember them all. I think we just went on stage and we started singing. Everyone just started singing along. yeah, Living Amy: Yeah. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. Xana: on the Run was absolutely the favorite of the evening. Amy: It was so awesome. then we what was. Was it we are the champions where we had the other? No, we did a final countdown. Also, the girls Xana: yeah! Yeah. Amy: did final. It was just the girls up doing that. I felt like maybe I'm wrong on that, but I was watching on the video and I was listening to it with us singing and it sounded like it was all girls. But my Xana: I think so. Amy: favorite was. Yeah, Karen: Someone's doing falsetto. Amy: my favorite was. crash, Henrik and I did nothing but a good time by poison. And it was a blast. And then Henrik went crazy, ripped his shirt off, and then he did air guitar all nuts and he got down on his knees and he leaned back and it was like, damn, it was awesome. Xana: Yeah. Amy: It was so fun. It was a blast. The whole night was a dream. It was a dream. Karen: Now in in typical Xana: Yeah. Karen: Spanish fashion, did it go on till four AM? Amy: No. Karen: And then you get churros afterward like four AM? No? okay. Xana: No. Amy: Henrik actually did go looking for churros, but the place didn't Karen: Okay. Amy: have them. would, but it wasn't four. It was midnight. And because we're with, you Karen: Too early. Amy: know, health people. And so it was an, it was a early-ish night. It, Karen: It doesn't count. They don't count. Amy: it did, but there were no churros, but I guess they did end up with some ice cream or something. Xana: Yeah. Amy: but I specifically remember when you said that Henrik went looking for churros. So, yeah. Karen: It's the after night it's the afternight snack. You usually need you Trodeos are like open all night, you know, catching Amy: Yeah. Karen: the crowd, g coming home from the karaoke bars. So that is. Amy: Yeah, it was fun. It was a good time. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm, yep, Xana: It was so much fun. Yeah. I would go back this week if we could. Amy: yep, same. Karen: Well, speaking of what is next on your rock and roll bucket list? Xana: on my bucket list. Well, I have some concerts planned. I'm going to see Shinedown in November. Amy: nice. Xana: I will see Five Finger Dead Punch in January. And then I'll probably go to Wings of AOR in Sweden Amy: Mm-hmm. Xana: in April. Karen: What is tell me what that is? Xana: That is an AOR Melodic Rock Festival over three days and I think a lot of the people who were at the reset will go. Amy: Probably like everybody but me and Carolina. Because Brazil and the States, know, yeah, I imagine it's going to be everybody. Xana: Yeah, I guess so, yeah. Yeah, because we already claimed we received this when we left, received these badges to like sew on our jeans, vest and stuff. Amy: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Xana: We have a big one, Rockstar Reset. It's like this big. Yeah, yeah, Amy: have it here actually. Xana: you can show us. And we already claimed first row with that. That's our ticket to first row now. Let's see and let's hope that we can all go there. Karen: That's huge. Xana: Yeah, it's pretty huge. Amy: Yes, it is. Xana: So it's very visible. So we get front row Amy: Mm-hmm. Xana: access. Amy: Yep. I forgot I had mine signed. Xana: yeah! Amy: Thanks. Xana: That's so cool. Amy: Yeah, that was it. Karen: April Sweden, I might have to look I might look that one up. That might work. Amy: Yep. It would be fun. Karen: Yeah, I think I'll yeah, that would be good. I have to see. I have another show in April, but yeah, we'll see. That will be good. Amy: All right. Karen: Okay. so yeah, and so for heat, that's gonna be in April. I was gonna ask if what more do you have going off? So heat, that's gonna be an April show. Okay. Xana: Yeah, yeah. And then... Karen: Is your mom coming? Xana: Yeah, she will. Karen: Okay, good. So then the two of us Amy: I love that so much. Karen: who didn't that weren't at the reset will get to meet Okay Xana: Yeah, yeah, Amy: Yeah. Xana: yeah. You'll all get to know my mom. Karen: No, that Amy: I love it. Karen: would be that is awesome. Okay, so Xana: Yeah. Karen: I am actually now I'm gonna jump into now our my god I forgot the word Amy. What do we call it? Rapid fire. Rapid fire. okay. Amy: Rapid fire. Are we doing rapid fire? I have another question I want to ask really quickly. And maybe it'll cover in the rapid fire. But did you have another night that was kind of fun for you that you really liked? I do. So. Xana: The game night was a lot of fun. We did some games with Victor. Yeah, I love that too. Yeah, card games, Amy: That was fun. Yeah, that was awesome. yeah, we did. Karen: Like card games, board games. Xana: you know, and legretto, which is, yeah, that was fun. That was fun. Amy: Yeah, we turned it into, it was a blast. It was a blast. I think my favorite, but I have an affection for it because I have a reason to have an affection for it was Tuesday. I liked Tuesday also. It was Tuesday and Thursday really for me. So. Xana: yeah, yeah, Karen: I Xana: yeah, yeah, absolutely. Karen: mean people don't know what Tuesday means. Amy: Well, I'm going Xana: Yeah. Amy: to tell you. Karen: Okay. Amy: So Tuesday, we got a surprise. So Tuesday, Kenny came and he, Karen: Who is a singer from Heat? Amy: who's the singer from? came and, Xana: There's... Amy: go ahead. Yeah. Xana: There's just too many nights and I keep messing them up. Yeah, that was obviously one of the best nights. Amy: Right? It's crazy, but I mean, so much great happened and it felt like Xana: Yeah. Amy: the days were really long, but the week ended up being really short. Xana: Mm-hmm. Amy: But Tuesday, Kenny came and he lectured and gave us some stuff because he has this tremendous health journey that he's been on and which is actually pretty inspiring. And then in the evening we kept getting we got this really cryptic message that crash might have a surprise for us. But It said, and you'll know later. And we kept waiting later, later, later. And it was like, what's going on? When's later? Because later just didn't come. Xana: Yeah. Amy: And then finally it was like, okay, come down to by where we have breakfast and where Kenny talked earlier. We went down there and Crash and Victor had an acoustic little show set up and Crash sing and Victor played guitar. And it was amazing. Amazing. Karen: Where was Kenny in all this? Amy: And then in the audience for the Xana: in the audience. Amy: most part. Yeah. Karen: okay. Xana: Yeah, until he couldn't hold himself with living on the run. Amy: Until the end. He tried. Karen: It's like I know this one. Amy: He tried. Yeah. Xana: I wanna go do! I wanna sing too! Yeah, yeah. that was the... yeah. I think it... somehow maybe Amy: Mm-hmm. In crash. Good. Xana: I forgot. I didn't forget about that night, but for me it was... Can I say it was a bit magical? And Amy: Yeah. Xana: I didn't video it because we were allowed to video the first song, but I didn't do that because I Amy: I didn't either. Xana: just wanted to be there and... that moment in that moment Karen: Live in the moment. Xana: that was so yeah magical yeah yeah yeah yeah absolutely Amy: It was enchanting was the word I used in my post. It was enchanting because I didn't video it either. The video that I posted, I actually took from the WhatsApp group. That's why I Xana: Yeah. Amy: was like, whose is this? But he sang Dance Macabre by Ghost. And then do you remember the order? And then he sang Changes by, you know, did the Ozzy Changes. And let me just tell you. It was remarkable what he did with that song. Xana: Mm-hmm. Amy: I was just in awe of, my gosh, it was beautiful. Karen: Compare it Youngblood's version. Amy: You can't because he did something different with it. It was more, it was acoustic. And so it didn't have the same electricity, but I think the emotion was a little bit more intense maybe. Xana: Yep, yeah, that's it. It was all emotion in that night for me. And I Amy: Yeah, yeah, yeah, same. Xana: think that was weird. No, it wasn't weird. It was good weird, you know? Yeah, Amy: It was unexpected. It was unexpected, I felt like. And Karen: Good weird. Good weird. Amy: then he did Running Up That Hill, which if you are on his Instagram subscribers page, he posted. So we actually ended up getting a little preview. I remember seeing Pilar when he started it and Pilar just went, you know, and was like, he did this. And I remember seeing her pretty excited about that. And then He really did something kind of awesome that I really loved. Because a while ago in one of our conversations, like everybody knows I'm this huge Def Leppard fan, but in one of our conversations that came out that hysteria was, you know, my favorite song. And I was like, you guys should cover. And I was actually meeting it like a heat song was like, if you ever covered a Def Leppard song, it should be this one. And he actually did it that night. And he sang hysteria. which to me I just sat there because he said Amy requested this and I just kind of sat there in my chair like like this the whole time just Xana: Yeah. Amy: watching it taking it in. I do wish I could have videoed it. I'd love to have had it and rewatched it but we'll see. I don't know what he's going to do with the video he Xana: Yeah. Amy: took and then he and Kenny did live in on the run and Xana: That was just, yeah, there are no words to describe this. Amy: was incredible. Yeah. Uh-uh. Xana: And I think Kaja, you hear us both go like, really, we slowed down Amy: You Xana: for some reason, but that was just it. I can't explain it. We Amy: Yeah. Xana: slowed down in that moment. Everybody was there, you know, and that was why it was so much fun. And I think that's also the reason why we were asked to not video it. Part of it. because of a little bit of a privacy thing, sure. But also to be there and to just experience it when you were there. Yeah, Karen: Be present. Xana: be present. And I think it's something that we, in general, forget to do. A lot of the times, it's something I tell my clients to do with their dogs because it's so important. that aside, yeah, I think it was Karen: Yes. Amy: Yeah. Xana: a good, yeah, it was a magical night for me. Amy: Yeah. Yeah. Karen: Like when you're going to concerts and you're spending your whole time trying to catch for something rather than just be at the show, be at the music, let the let Xana: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: the music just like come through, right? I mean, this is you were all Xana: Yeah. Yeah. Amy: Yeah. Karen: music fans to be there in the first place. It wasn't, you know, necessarily first and foremost a fitness retreat. It was about music too. That was it. That's what brought everyone together, was the music community. Xana: No. Mm-hmm. Amy: Mm hmm. Yeah. Xana: Yeah, yeah, that was our common ground. Yeah. Yeah. Amy: Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Karen: That was the common, yeah. Xana: But still, I think people had very different tastes as well. And still it was, Amy: Mm-hmm. Xana: yeah, everybody just got along. I mean, I have never Amy: Yeah. Xana: experienced that in my life. I have to say there was always something going on between two people, three people, and that, Amy: Yeah, it was remarkable. Xana: yeah, yeah, I think it was. It was a good group. It was an amazing group. Amy: Yeah. Mm Mm hmm. I don't know. mean, this was volume one and they're looking at a volume two. And I just I hope that the experiences is similar in terms of people getting along and all of that kind of stuff, because I really feel like Xana: Mm-hmm. Yeah, me too. Amy: it was rare. The chemistry among all the people was really, it was really special. And that that really made it. Xana: Yeah totally agree. Karen: think as we get older too, we're not gonna have like the pettiness of like you have with younger people debating together too, right? I mean, as people get older, you see it's you don't need to have that type of drama. Well you don't need Amy: Yeah, that's a good point. That's a good point. You hope, anyway. Yeah. Karen: I mean and if someone was Xana: True. Karen: I'd walk away from it, right? If I don't want to be Amy: you. Karen: around it, I don't feel like I had to have to engage in it. And that's I think, yeah, is Xana: Yeah, yeah, you're totally right. You're totally right. think Bunny was the youngest. She was 21 and then it was me, 37. So yeah, so yeah, I guess. And there Amy: Yeah. Yeah. Karen: Yeah. It's a different Xana: were, I think we were three now, or 37, 38. So, but that, yeah, and the rest was older. yeah. Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Karen: Okay. The perfect age. Xana: Is that true? Karen: think so. I think it is. I think that is a I think back and I was like that would probably be one of the best times because yeah, you're confident enough, you know, and you kind of for me it was like yeah, more of the confidence I didn't have maybe as or more sure of myself, maybe. But still Amy: Mm-hmm. Xana: Mm-hmm. Karen: my body is y was young enough to do everything I wanted it to do. Xana: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Karen: Run up that hill. Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: Lift those weight. Yeah, no. So yeah, Amy: Mm-hmm. Karen: jump on that surfboard or like what it is. Yeah. So Amy: Right? Karen: I think that's a perfect. And you know, making enough of your own money that you're not, you know, that you have, yeah, you kind of have that career down too. So I think it's Xana: Hmm. Amy: Yeah. Karen: a perfect age. You have so much to look forward to. Okay. Okay. So now Amy: Yeah. Xana: I agree. I agree. Karen: are we ready for rapid fire? Xana: I guess so. Karen: Okay, so I'm gonna rapid fire. You don't have to rapid fire back. Okay. Xana: Okay. Amy: Yeah, it's just your first thought that comes into your mind. That's the point of it. It's like first thought. That's your answer. Xana: Okay, let's go. Karen: Any other band you're gonna travel around the world to see. Xana: my god, yeah let's say five fingers death punch, I love them. Amy: Excellent. Karen: Yeah, that okay. There's going to be a festival, and you get to pick three bands in the lineup. Who are those three bands? Xana: Heat for sure. Yeah, I think he's great. course, Amy: yes, okay. Counts. Xana: he counts. and then mmm. Yeah, let's do shine now Amy: Okay. Excellent. it. Karen: Fantastic. And where's that going to be? Where would that festival be? Amy: yeah. Xana: we actually have a great festival site just outside my door. So let's do that here. Amy: Yeah, Karen: hometown show and you can have everyone over your place afterward. Yeah. I was like, I'm in. I'm in. Okay. Amy: yeah. All right. We know know we're staying. Yeah, yeah. I love it. That's perfect. Karen: what is a band that you love that people might be surprised that you that you like as a rock fan? Xana: Well, I think most people look a bit surprised when I say I love five finger dead punch. Karen: Okay, 'cause I now I wrote that I literally wrote that down because I have to listen to some of their music now. Okay. You you're gonna turn me on to that. Amy: I think you might recognize a few songs. Karen: I think I so that's I was like I have to put that one down. what is a song that immediately puts you in a good mood? Xana: Big big big. heat. Karen: Okay, great. and when you're rollerblading, do you listen to music or not listen to music? Xana: Yes, yes I do. Yeah. Karen: Okay. What is it? What are you listening to when you're rollerblading? Xana: Most of the time it's my loud and clear mix so that's all rock and roll, the heavier stuff, heats on there too. But I went out yesterday on my rollerblades and I put the Godsmack's new album, Life at Mohegan Sun on so I love that one as well. Amy: Okay. Xana: And I never put in earbuds because I'm always afraid of tractors so... Karen: Exactly. Xana: have it blasted Amy: Mm. Xana: from my pouch. Everyone's looking at me like, huh? She's making music? No, no. Karen: Okay, so Amy: Right, right. my gosh. Karen: I've actually, I don't think ever said I'm not putting my earbuds in because I'm worried about tractors. But depending where you Xana: yeah, so that's my reality. Karen: Mine always used to be. I was living in Rome. So it was like taxis and cars and Vespas. That was always Xana: Yeah. Karen: mine. I'd have like the around like only one in or never cause yeah, but tractors is like, yeah, serious. That's a big one. Xana: Yeah, Amy: Right? Xana: and I will probably hear them, but still, yeah, it scares me a little bit if I might not hear them. Karen: No, never have two earbuds in. Never, never Amy: Mm-hmm. And don't blame you. Don't blame you. Karen: have it in. what is the most adventurous place you've ever gone rollerblading? Xana: I think that would be the port of Antwerp. I took my roller blades there when they did a new pavement, that is more than 20 years ago. Karen: Ooh. Xana: yeah, still on the same roller blades, might I add. Just changed the Amy: Why? Xana: wheels a couple of times. Yeah, yeah, I still have the same ones. Amy: That's awesome. Xana: But they redid a whole part of the port and... we were actually allowed to take our bikes and that kind of stuff on the new pavement. I don't know why it was such a celebration, Amy: Wow. Xana: but it was. And I took my roller blades to get rid of friends, yeah. Karen: That's very cool. is is there any band you haven't seen yet that you're looking forward to seeing that's you know, in your future you want to see? Xana: Well, I haven't seen Shinedown live yet, so I'm looking Karen: Okay. Xana: forward to that. And also, Five Finger Deadpunch, I only saw their live stream back in September from Colorado, which I thought, okay, and now I am booking my tickets to Dusseldorf. Amy: Excellent. Excellent. Karen: As you sh okay, so not okay, if you go, where are some of the best Christmas markets in Belgium, Netherlands, or in your area? It's getting to be that time. Xana: Well, would go to Germany and then my favorite would be Cologne or Essen because they are just so cosy. Karen: Yeah. I have not done the SN1. I'm I'm a Christmas market fanatic. I've also lived in Germany. So I'm I so Xana: Okay, yeah. Karen: come the season I would like have my list and travel every week into a different market. But this year I'm Xana: That's so cool, yeah. Karen: I'm heading to the Netherlands for just a week of Christmas markets to see that. So that will be okay. Xana: Okay, then I would say Maastricht. That is actually also close to me. So yeah, I'm very close to the the Dutch and German border. So I actually Karen: Yeah. Amy: So nice. Xana: never almost never do anything in Belgium. I'm always I'm always over state lines. Yeah. So Amy: I love it. Xana: yeah. Karen: I yeah, that is. But you know, Belgium does have in the summertime some great music festivals too, closer around Brussels area too. They do have, yeah. Xana: Absolutely it does. Yeah. Yeah. Karen: But there's so much going on that you can do there. Okay. Well, Xana: Absolutely. Karen: thing Amy, do you have another rapid fire? Amy: No, I think you covered them. I'm just so excited to see you. my gosh. Sana, I'm just like, I'm like, hi. I am, I'm like, I couldn't wait. Karen: In a second, it is such a positive, like hearing from Amy. I couldn't make it to it. because I started a new job. So taking a week off within the first six weeks probably wasn't the best thing to do. Xana: No. Karen: so I got to call Amy because we were on the same time zone continuously and hear about it and try to like relive it through her. So I love hearing the stories. It sounded like such a beautiful event. Like the idea of getting music fans together and being able to like really connect and you see how much you have in common and how positive it was. So yeah, that's fantastic. Xana: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. It was amazing. It was amazing. And Amy, I think Amy: Yeah, it was. Xana: you miss our Virgin Mojitos, don't you? Yeah! Amy: do so Karen: He told me about those, my gosh! Amy: much. my gosh, they were so good. Except I watched them get made and I think I'm gonna, I have yet to do it, but I think I'm gonna go. was literally, yes dear. We are, she's in California right now. I will, okay. Karen: Amy, I think you need to we're on the same time zone for rarely again. And I'm ready. I am ready for a virgin mojito. I need to feel Xana: Okay. Karen: like I was there. So come on. Xana: Yeah. Amy: my gosh. No, you guys, seriously, no joke. These things were 10 euros each and worth every penny. And I swear through the course of the week, I probably spent 100 euros on Virgin Mojitos. I'm not even joking. Karen: What's wrong with the gin? Amy: Well, I mean, we just didn't honestly. tried. you be proud of me. I tried the Tito de Verano because we talked about that with Henrik on. Karen: the tin to the verano, yep. Amy: Yeah, we talked about that with Henrik and Crash on our episode. So I absolutely tried one. It was a little bit stronger than what I anticipated because I made it through like half. But Karen: It's wine. Yeah, it's wine. Yeah. Amy: I made it through half and I was like, I haven't been drinking a lot lately because I am feeling this like right now. But it was hot and we were up early and all of that. so Thursday night was really the only night that I drank. it was just it and it worked. It was just it was perfect. So the gin would have been fine, but it was better without. It was just better without. So. Karen: I just keep thinking of Crash's videos. I need to go to the gym. Amy: yeah. Karen: Jin? Xana: Yeah. Amy: put gin on the list. Yeah. Yeah. Those are funny. Yeah. But I Xana: Yeah. Amy: think he really, well, he drank, think nobody, not very many people actually drank a lot. I think there were beers passed around after Karen: No, that's it's better that way. It's better that way. Xana: No. Amy: the performance, after the performance on Tuesday. Xana: Mm-hmm. Amy: and other than that, it was Thursday. I keep hitting my desk. Sorry, you guys are going to hear that. But, other than that, it was just Thursday really. So it was Xana: Mm-hmm. Amy: a, it's a nice time. Karen: One, I can't wait to hear more. Amy, we'll get more stories out of that week. Son, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This was fun. Xana: Yeah, this was a lot of fun. Thank you so much. Karen: And I look forward to seeing Amy: seeing you! Karen: you in person, not just talking to you live. Xana: Yeah, yeah, yeah, me too, me too, absolutely. Amy: Right? my gosh. You are gonna see her before you see me next probably. So, Katya, you're gonna have to give Xana a really big hug for me because I miss you. Karen: I will. Xana: Yeah. Karen: I'm looking at I'm mining I'll put my lineup together. Amy: Okay. Alrighty. Well, thank you. It so good to see you again. I miss you. I do. yeah, it's, I'm, me either. Me either. I'm Xana: You're welcome. I miss you too. Absolutely. I miss all of you. I really do. I hadn't expected this, but yeah. Amy: glad we have our group and all of that. And yeah, it was such a great, like it was life-changing, really. It was life-changing. was just, there's no other way to put it. So, all righty. Xana: Yeah, yeah. I agree. No, it's true. Amy: Well, until next time, my friends. Bye. Xana: Very good. See you later. Talk to you later. Karen: That was so much fun to hear about, to live through. And as I start connecting more and more with people we're meeting through the podcast, through the bands we love, it just makes the world feel that much better. And I am Amy: my gosh. Karen: so glad we now have a friend in Belgium and someone Amy: Yep. Yep. Karen: to keep sharing the music with. Amy: Yep, I love it so much.
