- 0:00So the a typical season 3 trailer just came out.
- 0:04Let's go over it. Hey guys, welcome back to the
- 0:05ask me world. So a typical season 3 is coming
- 0:10out on Netflix. Now if you've never heard of a
- 0:12typical it's a show about a guy who's in high school who's on
- 0:16the Spectrum and it's kind of like the goings-on who is life.
- 0:19Really? There's no real kind of gist to
- 0:23the story of what's going on. It's just like living his life.
- 0:25The interesting thing about the character Sam is that he is You
- 0:30know displays those classic traits of somebody with
- 0:32Asperger's Syndrome basically autism spectrum disorder, you
- 0:35know, that's what it's called. But I actually had the
- 0:37opportunity to work with Netflix on season one of a typical where
- 0:41they reached out and said could I review it and see if at any
- 0:43point is the next season for season two because any of those
- 0:46are season to coming out so I said, yeah and then I have an
- 0:48early access to the stuff and then we did some consultation.
- 0:51It was really really good really really fun.
- 0:52And I really enjoyed season one A lot happened there.
- 0:56You know, it sounds got a girlfriend.
- 0:57He got into some mischief. You know just typical stuff
- 1:01that's always going to happen in like typical kind of Comedy is
- 1:05or drama shows or whatever now they came back out with season
- 1:09two now before they did season 2, obviously, I knew I give you
- 1:13my feedback on season one and one of the things that we knew
- 1:16about Sam was that the main character Sam actually had kind
- 1:19of like a whole bucket of all of the traits, you know, he
- 1:22basically had it was like, yeah, you know, there's an awesome
- 1:25tree around you've got it and that was basically him, you
- 1:28know, he had every single trait. So I said, That's not realistic
- 1:30that somebody would have all of them, you know and all maybe
- 1:34somebody have all in but be you know, very few and far between
- 1:36it's not liking and even representation of the community.
- 1:38So yeah, they kind of dialed back on some of the kind of
- 1:41things the traits that you know, he he was involved with in the
- 1:45first season and then it kind of work really well and then in
- 1:49season two we saw him kind of like, you know progress and he
- 1:52has an ongoing issue where he had a girlfriend in the first
- 1:55season the second scene, they didn't have a girlfriend and it
- 1:57was really interesting because it gave the average person.
- 2:00Knows nothing about autism the access to look into the
- 2:04lifestyles life types ups and downs parents friends siblings
- 2:09the whole shebang even tying down a job going to school all I
- 2:12kinda stuff was amazing and I think they did a really good job
- 2:15at it especially in season to season one was great as well.
- 2:18I'm just saying they're really good so season 3 is coming out.
- 2:22I'm not entirely sure when season she's gonna let me just
- 2:24check see if it says a date and it actually creates the season 3
- 2:27is actually coming up November. The first on Netflix is a - oh
- 2:30actually so you can't get it on anything else.
- 2:32Now when I was you know coming across this show.
- 2:36I fancied amazing and one of the things I find amazing about it
- 2:39was the fact that a typical is it's nice to see a show about
- 2:43autism that doesn't directly mock it or I'll give it kind of
- 2:46some unlicensed credibility, you know, like the Big Bang Theory
- 2:50Sheldon Cooper. They're always kind of taking
- 2:53the mick out of him. And then the there's like
- 2:56another show a bird from Community, you know, they kind
- 2:58of like it's all bit jokey. There's no like real serious
- 3:01part of the condition and that you're kind of like Smooth over
- 3:04the autism part. So whereas a typical really goes
- 3:08in there total autism. So that's why like awesome walks
- 3:10difficulties against having on the Spectrum some more of the
- 3:12actors now in there on the Spectrum so that showing like
- 3:15more diversity within the groups and stuff and he goes to peer
- 3:17groups in the second season. It's all really really good.
- 3:20So with this third season, I'm glad they're doing it because
- 3:23one of the things that I was worried about was that they were
- 3:25going to cancel it. And then again, we just have to
- 3:27fight for more shows that we'd actually show more autism.
- 3:29Mmm, again and again and just really try and find that Niche I
- 3:33guess for people to see it but they're actually worked in our
- 3:36favor. They've done a season 3 now
- 3:38season 3 the trail was very very interesting in contrast to
- 3:41season one with the season one trailer that it relied heavily
- 3:45on the fact that this is about autism is what a guy who is on
- 3:47the Spectrum. It was all ins and outs and you
- 3:49saw some of the traits and stuff and you know, all that kind of
- 3:53stuff and it made me really think you knew it was what you
- 3:55like about autism is going to take some of my teachers, but
- 3:57I'll drink the tea. It's going to go call.
- 4:01Oh, it's a good blend. See green tea is my thing guys a
- 4:05green sea is just so good. I love it.
- 4:07Okay, even though the heavy altered of influence let the
- 4:10viewer realize that the show is basically about autism and you
- 4:12didn't know what to expect from it.
- 4:13Can you go? Okay, there's a show about
- 4:14autism but what's that going to consist of because you know,
- 4:17there's only so much you can say with it being a TV show like,
- 4:21how's it going to last nine episodes and all this kind of
- 4:22stuff. So in the season 3 trailer it
- 4:27really really good how I've done it kind of shows the the the
- 4:30more kind of growing up going to college going to want to be in
- 4:34like dorm rooms and college Sam is kind of going to college now.
- 4:37He's leaving high school and he's becoming more independent
- 4:40and that he's going to have to rely on other things like can't
- 4:42find his mom or his best friend back at home and those kind of
- 4:45things and it looks really really interesting.
- 4:47But again, you don't know if he's on the Spectrum unless you
- 4:49already know and you seen season 1 and 2, so that was very very
- 4:52interesting but don't say just show any of it like the trade to
- 4:55any kind of autism mishaps if you will one of the most
- 4:59fascinating things Is that he does mention the Spectrum in a
- 5:02he sitting in a like a board of of kids and they're about to
- 5:07take an exam or something. He says four out of five people
- 5:09on the Spectrum don't graduate from college, which is amazing
- 5:13because that's a ridiculous like low number and it's horrible to
- 5:17think about but it's good that they're addressing it.
- 5:19That's what this show does it. I feel like it addresses the
- 5:21politics of autism and without diving too far into it.
- 5:24A lot of people kind of say. Oh, well, you know, here we go
- 5:27white male teenage, you know, Typical autism image, you know,
- 5:32it's not fair representation. But then again, they've chosen
- 5:35to talk about a young boy in this one or young man in this
- 5:38one. Whereas in Sesame Street.
- 5:40There's a young girl, you know, so it just depends on the the
- 5:44Creator's I don't think there's anything Sinister there.
- 5:46I think we often remember that as well.
- 5:48And another thing I see quite a lot of negative slack and talk
- 5:50about things like a typical on the internet people saying like
- 5:53I it was rubbish because it's really represent autism fairly
- 5:55and blah blah blah, but it's the best we've got on the moment.
- 5:57Okay, maybe it doesn't do everything that you want.
- 5:59The movie doesn't have like the specific details in the Academia
- 6:03level of research that you can have one for something.
- 6:05You can't always have that especially not with
- 6:07entertainment and at the end of the day, we're wanting more
- 6:09people to learn more about it because this is what a typical
- 6:11does it compels people to go and then, you know open up a search
- 6:16window and look for autism and Hounds awesome affect kids in
- 6:19school because this season season 3 is showing that
- 6:22transition of like leaving school parents have had like
- 6:25divorce issues or kind of separation issues are how's he
- 6:28doing with our home is his sister.
- 6:29Has got you know emotional relationship issues going on and
- 6:32stuff. How is he going to relate to
- 6:33that? And how was he going to you
- 6:35know, show that comradery between him and his friends and
- 6:37things like that and I find that fascinating because people want
- 6:40to know how how would a person with an awesome special
- 6:44condition can relate to that but that is the only time like I was
- 6:48saying about that the graduating college is the only time he
- 6:50mentions people on the Spectrum, but it doesn't say myself, you
- 6:53know, it's like I'm on the Spectrum and people on the
- 6:55Spectrum, you know have a really low number of passing out of
- 6:58college, you know. Really interesting because he's
- 7:01kind of not talking about the autism.
- 7:03He's drawing more into the lifestyle and the the click of
- 7:07life if you like. It's quite interesting, but it
- 7:09does show some of his quirks like it is a scene where he's
- 7:13opening closing a door and it's about squeaking it annoys at me
- 7:15says to the the roommate. Oh, you know, there's not always
- 7:18squeaking. He says well, I don't really
- 7:19open it 35 times like you did and it's really interesting
- 7:22because Sam's going around finding things that are
- 7:24triggering him emotionally and sensory wise, but you don't
- 7:28really know that you know, You don't know older are part of
- 7:30autism because you just expect it that it's just Sam and that's
- 7:33how he is. If you've never seen the episode
- 7:361 a sorry Season 1 season 2 so in all in all I think that
- 7:40season tree looks really good. It's basically it's the it's the
- 7:44continuation of that life flow, you know, so you saw someone
- 7:47who's having difficulties in high school, then it gets a
- 7:49therapist and he's working on it and then you sure all the trials
- 7:52and tribulations in high school in season 2 and like the ups and
- 7:55downs of and a girlfriend home friends going to Promenade and
- 7:57stuff. So now the transitioning into
- 7:59like the How is he going to deal with that?
- 8:01How's it going to put those things in situations?
- 8:03And I think it's great. I think it's great that they've
- 8:04done that with college because you have young people watching
- 8:07the show and being influenced and maybe somebody on the
- 8:09Spectrum. It really looks up to this show
- 8:11to being their source of kind of like feeling connected to
- 8:14something and feeling a little you know, less kind of ostrich
- 8:18eyes from situations and things like that and I feel personally
- 8:22that that's great thing. I mean, you know who would argue
- 8:25with that but at the end of the day, you know, that's my
- 8:28personal opinion on the a uncle and a typical season 3 trailer.
- 8:31I think it's amazing November the first it's coming out and
- 8:35I'm very very excited about it because like, you know, it's
- 8:38again I enjoyed I enjoyed the season is not just because you
- 8:40know worked with Netflix, you know, that's nothing to do with
- 8:42it. I would've been completely
- 8:43honest. I'm always completely honest if
- 8:45I was, you know, if I found it rubbish a tell you was rubbish,
- 8:48but I actually really enjoy it. If you don't know what it is.
- 8:51I highly recommend you going check it out right now on
- 8:53Netflix. I do you have you watched a
- 8:55typical do like a typical to do enjoy did you watch season
- 8:58wanted you watch season 2 I'm not entirely sure, you know of
- 9:02everyone's feedback because I've never asked her.
- 9:04I know a couple of my friends have watched it and they really
- 9:06liked it. I know that some people were
- 9:08wary of the trailer for season 1 when it came out and they
- 9:11weren't sure if they were going to be enjoying it or not.
- 9:13But I feel like you know, there's there's a place in
- 9:17there's a place in the community for I support and I think it
- 9:19does a really good job. The only thing that I would say
- 9:23about it is that the naming kind of doesn't really distinctly
- 9:27tell you what the shows about a typical is quite ambiguous name.
- 9:29But it does, you know, it works for the show, and I think yeah,
- 9:32it's a great show. Hey guys.
