- 1:48Speaker 6: a couple of weeks ago. This Saturday, there's going to
- 1:51Speaker 6: be a special telethon held to try to help those
- 1:54Speaker 6: folks out. A lot of folks are involved with that.
- 1:57Speaker 6: There's folks from the music world, from the literate, your world,
- 2:01Speaker 6: just various various types of people coming together. One of
- 2:03Speaker 6: those is actor Kevin Sizemore, who is a native of
- 2:06Speaker 6: West Virginia who's been making a real big splash in
- 2:09Speaker 6: Hollywood lately. He and Burke Allen Burke is the guy

- 2:15Speaker 4: Are going to join us to talk about that a
- 2:17Speaker 4: little bit later on.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Plus, you know, I'm gonna get into talking about the
- 2:20Speaker 6: president's speech last night as well near phone calls and
- 2:24Speaker 6: text By the way, I will say, I'm not going
- 2:26Speaker 6: to get to that until a little bit later on
- 2:27Speaker 6: in the show. So if you get any comments on
- 2:30Speaker 6: the president's speech last night, feel free to go ahead
- 2:32Speaker 6: and text those in. I'll read as many as I can.

- 2:45Speaker 6: Way in on the President's speech, Steven Allen Adams of
- 2:48Speaker 6: Auden Newspapers is here where it's right now. I will
- 2:50Speaker 6: not ask you to weigh in on the president's speech,
- 2:52Speaker 6: or we'll try to keep it under the Capitol Dome.
- 2:55Speaker 4: How's that?
- 2:56Speaker 7: Please?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Please do?
- 2:57Speaker 8: Because I'm so like hyper focused the legislative session being
- 3:01Speaker 8: under the Dome that I even have to like like
- 3:05Speaker 8: give like congressional coverage over to other reporters. I just
- 3:08Speaker 8: can't focus on what's going on in DC. I'm fully
- 3:11Speaker 8: focused on that Golden Dome.
- 3:13Speaker 6: And I will say this to any of our listeners
- 3:14Speaker 6: that don't agree with anything that I say throughout the
- 3:18Speaker 6: portion of this show, I will not have you escorted
- 3:21Speaker 6: out like they did a certain Democratic congressman from Texas
- 3:25Speaker 6: last night.
- 3:25Speaker 4: You are safe. All all types are welcome here. So
- 3:29Speaker 4: all right, we know.
- 3:31Speaker 6: Now that men are women and women are men or
- 3:33Speaker 6: something like that, men or men or women or women
- 3:35Speaker 6: or whatever.
- 3:36Speaker 4: On Monday, we've got that taken care of.
- 3:37Speaker 8: Right, Yeah, And it's already moving pretty quickly through the
- 3:41Speaker 8: House because they had their own version of that bill.
- 3:45Speaker 8: They parked THEIRS. Senate had passed THEIRS just the other day,
- 3:50Speaker 8: so now they're just moving the Senate version of the bill.
- 3:54Speaker 8: That's the vehicle for that going forward. So I think
- 3:57Speaker 8: that's on second reading today in the House. It will
- 3:59Speaker 8: be for passage tomorrow and be one of the first
- 4:03Speaker 8: bills on Governor Patrick Morrisey's desks, and that's one of
- 4:06Speaker 8: his priorities for the session.
- 4:08Speaker 6: So you know, I mean, we're not halfway yet in
- 4:11Speaker 6: the session, right, We're not halfway.
- 4:13Speaker 8: We're we're just about a week away from day thirty.
- 4:16Speaker 6: From day thirty, okay, So overall overall, very very broad question,
- 4:20Speaker 6: mister Adams, what do you make of the session so far?
- 4:23Speaker 8: It's definitely different. It's a different session. You know, the
- 4:26Speaker 8: House haus and new set of rules and the procedures
- 4:28Speaker 8: for how it does its committees and moves its bills
- 4:30Speaker 8: through those committees. It's a slower process. I know there
- 4:34Speaker 8: was some concern about taking away the ability to the
- 4:37Speaker 8: request of public meetings or hearings, that sort of thing,
- 4:40Speaker 8: but I gotta tell you it works out better over there.
- 4:44Speaker 8: They have a lot more testimony on bills. They bring
- 4:46Speaker 8: in a lot more people pro and for against bills.
- 4:49Speaker 8: You can now, you know, immediately upload your comments on
- 4:54Speaker 8: a bill, so they have that as part of the record.
- 4:57Speaker 8: It's I will tell you for reporter, it's great because
- 5:01Speaker 8: even you get to hear from the lead sponsor of
- 5:03Speaker 8: the bills. They have to explain why they want their bill.
- 5:07Speaker 8: In these meetings, and that's actually helpful because normally it's
- 5:11Speaker 8: just an attorney that explains it and they get into
- 5:13Speaker 8: the legal leese. But that that's sometimes hard to translate
- 5:16Speaker 8: to readers and the people out there hearing the lawmaker
- 5:20Speaker 8: actually explained, Okay, I'm the lead sponsor of this, here's
- 5:23Speaker 8: why I want it. Okay, perfect that that's actually helpful.
- 5:26Speaker 8: So it's a good process. But the problem is sound.
- 5:28Speaker 8: The downside that is fewer bills make it through. It's
- 5:32Speaker 8: been a little slow in that regards. House Speaker Hanshaw
- 5:34Speaker 8: prepared us for that, said that you know to expect quality,
- 5:39Speaker 8: not quantity. So there's that. Senate seems to be normal
- 5:44Speaker 8: as far as how many bills it's kind of pushing through.
- 5:47Speaker 8: But of course the house set up this processor released.
- 5:50Speaker 8: Some believe the House up this process to be the
- 5:52Speaker 8: adults in the room and be the deliberate a body
- 5:54Speaker 8: it normally the Senatives. Senate's been a little bit crazier,
- 5:59Speaker 8: but definitely slow going so far in session.
- 6:04Speaker 6: Talking to Steven Allen Adams again from Ogden Newspapers. It's
- 6:07Speaker 6: nine thirteen, but Dave alland show in five eighty live

- 6:19Speaker 6: So what was this thing that happened yesterday with Woefel
- 6:22Speaker 6: out of Capel County and in regards to the governor,
- 6:25Speaker 6: I mean Aaron boys or something like that. They hear
- 6:27Speaker 6: that term thrown out there?
- 6:28Speaker 3: What wasten?
- 6:29Speaker 4: What's up with that?
- 6:30Speaker 8: Well, in short, he's under the impression. I'm not sure
- 6:33Speaker 8: who told him this or where he's getting the information from,
- 6:36Speaker 8: but he's under the impression. Of course, there's only two
- 6:38Speaker 8: Democrats in the thirty four member state Senate, and we're talking.
- 6:41Speaker 4: About Wolfel now sending to Mike Woffel out of Capol County.
- 6:43Speaker 8: Yeah, the minority leader. Right, Yeah, he's under the impression
- 6:47Speaker 8: that the Governor's office is putting pressure on Senate committee
- 6:50Speaker 8: chairs to not even contemplate any amendments to bills offered
- 6:55Speaker 8: by the Democratic minority, even if they're fairly innoculous. In
- 6:59Speaker 8: the quick Exam bull allow As, he offered an amendment
- 7:01Speaker 8: to a bill on occupational licensing reciprocity to try to
- 7:06Speaker 8: do a carv aalphor physicians who kind of feel it's
- 7:08Speaker 8: a little bit too broad, and what type of licenses
- 7:11Speaker 8: that they would allow to cross into in the state
- 7:14Speaker 8: of West Virginia for medical licenses. So he offered amendment
- 7:18Speaker 8: on that Monday, They laid it over, came back the
- 7:21Speaker 8: next day. Apparently instead of taking his amendment, they decided
- 7:24Speaker 8: to do a new committee substitute incorporate much of his
- 7:28Speaker 8: amendment into it, but point being they didn't want his
- 7:30Speaker 8: name on an amendment. So he was upset by that
- 7:34Speaker 8: and went to the floor yesterday and threatened to have
- 7:37Speaker 8: all bills red and full, which it's you know, normally
- 7:41Speaker 8: to summarize him, but its motion any member can make,
- 7:44Speaker 8: and what it means is if you got a long
- 7:46Speaker 8: floor session with a lot of bills that could that
- 7:50Speaker 8: could really come up the works. So he's threatening to
- 7:53Speaker 8: start making those motions Monday if he doesn't get some
- 7:55Speaker 8: assurances that amendments from the Minority or at least being
- 8:00Speaker 8: seriously contemplated and they're not being getting pressure from the
- 8:04Speaker 8: governor's office.
- 8:05Speaker 6: Talk about Stephen from a media standpoint of the difference
- 8:11Speaker 6: between a Morrissey administration and a Justice administration. I know
- 8:14Speaker 6: one certificate of need. It was sad and I wasn't there.
- 8:18Speaker 6: You guys are at the capitol. I'm not that that
- 8:21Speaker 6: was one of the things that Morrisey really wanted to,
- 8:23Speaker 6: you know, do away with. And his wife may have
- 8:25Speaker 6: gotten involved and so on, and so I don't I've
- 8:27Speaker 6: then also read something said that they weren't even there.
- 8:30Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 8:30Speaker 6: I wasn't there, So I'm not going to comment out,
- 8:32Speaker 6: but just overall, the difference between a Patrick Morrissey in
- 8:37Speaker 6: the governor's mansion and a gym Justice who was not
- 8:39Speaker 6: in the governor's mansion but was supposed to be.
- 8:41Speaker 8: Sure, in some ways it's been better, especially for the press.
- 8:44Speaker 8: I will say Governor Morrisey is very responsive. He answers
- 8:47Speaker 8: all questions in press conferences, we have in person press conferences.
- 8:51Speaker 8: He takes follow ups. I mean he he pivots when
- 8:55Speaker 8: he has to pivot or feels he needs a pivot,
- 8:56Speaker 8: but I mean he takes the questions. He takes some
- 8:58Speaker 8: very critical question and his comms team are very responsive.
- 9:03Speaker 8: If I send an email, I usually hear pardon me here,
- 9:06Speaker 8: back very quickly, so that's nice. But Justice, of course,
- 9:10Speaker 8: I had a reputation for not being really directly involved
- 9:12Speaker 8: with the legislative session. He had people around for that
- 9:15Speaker 8: on his staff, but he was kind of disengaged. To
- 9:18Speaker 8: an extent. Morrissey is the exact opposite. He might be
- 9:22Speaker 8: a little too engaged with the session. I think everyone
- 9:25Speaker 8: kind of figured he'd followed the model with Joe Manchin
- 9:28Speaker 8: and obviously be upstairs and worked because agenda across, which
- 9:32Speaker 8: is I think what you want. But I do think
- 9:35Speaker 8: some of the pressure that some of his staff members
- 9:37Speaker 8: have kind of brought the bar against some members, including
- 9:40Speaker 8: Republicans on both the House and the Senate side, on
- 9:43Speaker 8: different things, especially the cong Repeal Bill, which may be
- 9:46Speaker 8: coming back in some form, the Senate bill.
- 9:48Speaker 4: The Certificate of Need for Hospitals.
- 9:50Speaker 8: Yeah, the Senate bill is still out there. That could
- 9:53Speaker 8: be a vehicle for that, but there may be some
- 9:55Speaker 8: other mechanism in the works to keep pushing that. They're
- 9:58Speaker 8: pushing too hard. It's turning off a lot of lawmakers,
- 10:02Speaker 8: particularly Republicans on the House side, and I almost kind
- 10:06Speaker 8: of feel like the damage has even been done because
- 10:09Speaker 8: it's still early. Maybe they can walk along this back
- 10:12Speaker 8: or fix some of those relationships. But I keep hearing
- 10:15Speaker 8: that there's no love right now between at least the
- 10:20Speaker 8: Morrissey administration, at least his staff, and particularly House Republicans.
- 10:24Speaker 6: I was told, and I think I have mentioned this
- 10:26Speaker 6: on the air maybe to you. I was told I
- 10:28Speaker 6: happen to be at the Capitol before the session started.
- 10:30Speaker 6: I was kind of helping in the background, getting Wilson
- 10:33Speaker 6: Meadows ready to go over there, and I talked to
- 10:35Speaker 6: one Republican lawmaker who at that time was a little
- 10:38Speaker 6: pod and it hadn't even started yet at about the governor.
- 10:42Speaker 6: And but I guess when I guess, Steve, when you
- 10:44Speaker 6: go from one extreme to the other, as you said,
- 10:46Speaker 6: when Jim Justice was governor, he had people, He had
- 10:48Speaker 6: Brian Abraham, and he had others from the office that
- 10:50Speaker 6: were very very engaged him not so much.
- 10:54Speaker 4: And then Morrissey, from what.
- 10:55Speaker 6: I'm gathering talking to you and Brad Amelia and others,
- 10:58Speaker 6: he's kind of, you know, a complete I said, he
- 11:00Speaker 6: wants to be more involved. And other governors have been that.
- 11:03Speaker 6: When in the Joe Manchin comes to mind as somebody
- 11:05Speaker 6: that was Earl Ray, somebody that was very very involved.
- 11:09Speaker 4: I want to get your take on this before we
- 11:11Speaker 4: let you go then where you could give us a
- 11:12Speaker 4: preview of what's going on today.
- 11:14Speaker 6: The other night, Steven I was I was at an
- 11:17Speaker 6: event uh at the Capitol and uh uh.
- 11:21Speaker 4: I was talking to a Republican.
- 11:23Speaker 6: In the House of a Delegate's not going to mention
- 11:25Speaker 6: the name uh for the for these purposes, he'll remain nameless.
- 11:29Speaker 6: But he was paraphrasing here and he said, I wish
- 11:33Speaker 6: we had more Democrats in the House because we're and
- 11:36Speaker 6: this is a Republican talking because we're only getting one
- 11:39Speaker 6: side of things and it doesn't make for good discussion.
- 11:45Speaker 6: Now that again, this is a Republican saying that that
- 11:49Speaker 6: that that he that he wished that there would have
- 11:51Speaker 6: been more Democrats in the House because you get a
- 11:53Speaker 6: little bit more dialogue your thoughts.
- 11:57Speaker 8: Yeah, Well, I mean, I I'm you know, I'm a reporter,
- 12:00Speaker 8: but I always like to say I kind of lean
- 12:03Speaker 8: center right. But I've always been a believer that you
- 12:06Speaker 8: need a mixture of conservative and liberal voices. You need
- 12:10Speaker 8: to hear both of those things, and if you're working
- 12:14Speaker 8: together like you should be in government, you can craft
- 12:17Speaker 8: some legislation that may not make both sides happy but
- 12:21Speaker 8: could actually end up being really good legislation. It's hard
- 12:23Speaker 8: to do that when you have a patent pending DAVE
- 12:27Speaker 8: a super duper majority of Republicans. It's hard to have
- 12:32Speaker 8: those conversations.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Now.
- 12:33Speaker 8: To some extent, we've talked about this. I think the
- 12:35Speaker 8: caucus itself, the Republican Caucus sort of breaks off into
- 12:38Speaker 8: its own faction. So I haven't seen that yet so far,
- 12:42Speaker 8: predominantly the session. It may come later, it may come later,
- 12:47Speaker 8: but yeah, you need to have those, you know, loyal
- 12:50Speaker 8: opposition voices to provide you a different perspective on things.
- 12:55Speaker 8: Lord knows, there's definitely Democrats on the House side that
- 12:58Speaker 8: are willing to speak up in that sort of thing.
- 13:00Speaker 8: But you know, it's even harder on the Senates. I again,
- 13:04Speaker 8: only have two and they could be crosswise of each
- 13:07Speaker 8: other sometimes on a particular bil. So you need those voices,
- 13:11Speaker 8: and I think it would be helpful. You know, Pushkin,
- 13:15Speaker 8: the chairman of the Democratic Party. I'm sure that they're
- 13:17Speaker 8: already kind of working on a recruitment plan for for
- 13:20Speaker 8: candidates next time. A lot you would think, yeah, it's
- 13:23Speaker 8: gonna be hard it is, but you got to try
- 13:25Speaker 8: it and you might get some of them through. And
- 13:28Speaker 8: those voices do help, I think, at least make you
- 13:32Speaker 8: think about things you didn't think about.
- 13:33Speaker 6: And I will say this about the voices that the
- 13:35Speaker 6: Democrats too have. They're pretty loud voices. And I don't
- 13:37Speaker 6: mean that in a bad way. I mean that at all.
- 13:40Speaker 6: So please, if you're listening, you know Kaylee young and
- 13:43Speaker 6: flu hardy and some of the time, And that's not
- 13:45Speaker 6: a negative thing. I'm just saying they're not the type
- 13:47Speaker 6: that are just going to sit back and just kind
- 13:49Speaker 6: of twittled their thumbs say well, there's really nothing we
- 13:51Speaker 6: can do. They're gonna get in there and they're gonna fight.
- 13:54Speaker 4: All right.
- 13:54Speaker 6: So today is WVU Day at the Capitol. Yesterday was Marshall.
- 13:57Speaker 6: There was also Cannabis Day at the Capitol yesterday. I
- 14:00Speaker 6: don't know if you tie those things in together.
- 14:02Speaker 4: But today it's WVU day. What are you looking at today?
- 14:04Speaker 8: Man, I didn't nobody handed me a spliff. That's crazy.
- 14:09Speaker 8: Today I'm kind of watching, you know, on third reading
- 14:12Speaker 8: on the Senate side, they've got Senate Bill one point
- 14:14Speaker 8: fifty four that's prohibiting sexual orientation instruction in public schools.
- 14:19Speaker 8: The titles a little deceiving. What kind of what it
- 14:22Speaker 8: does do in the interior to bill is, if you're
- 14:25Speaker 8: a teacher and say a student either comes out to
- 14:28Speaker 8: you as a transgender or drops their pronouns or or
- 14:33Speaker 8: anything along those lines, the teacher would be required to
- 14:37Speaker 8: inform an administrator at a school who wouldn't inform a parent.
- 14:41Speaker 8: So that one has been a little contentious on on
- 14:44Speaker 8: the Senate side. Even some Senate Republicans have tried to
- 14:48Speaker 8: at least moderate that a little bit. But I think
- 14:52Speaker 8: it's going to come through, probably by a pretty substantial
- 14:56Speaker 8: majority later today.
- 14:57Speaker 6: All right, I mean to get to a quick texture
- 14:59Speaker 6: before you let go of says the SDM super duper
- 15:02Speaker 6: majority don't want opposing view opposing viewpoints. They can do
- 15:06Speaker 6: no wrong. I think that was tongue in cheek, but
- 15:10Speaker 6: go ahead.
- 15:10Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I mean here's the thing. I mean, there's
- 15:12Speaker 8: not even solid agreement if within their own caucuses. The
- 15:15Speaker 8: senate's a good example of this, where you still have
- 15:18Speaker 8: what would normally be considered regular conservatives, but they're now
- 15:23Speaker 8: the moderates, and the people that are running the Senate
- 15:26Speaker 8: are particularly the committees are way further to the right
- 15:30Speaker 8: than the people that were running it just last year,
- 15:36Speaker 8: and as a result, there are some headbutting that goes
- 15:40Speaker 8: on in that caucus, and they're a good example. We
- 15:43Speaker 8: haven't seen a whole lot on the House side on
- 15:45Speaker 8: that because, honestly, I think a lot of their new
- 15:47Speaker 8: structure has kind of taken a lot of It's almost
- 15:49Speaker 8: like a steam release in a way. It's keeping them
- 15:52Speaker 8: from being really upset with each other. But it's, like
- 15:54Speaker 8: you said, it's going to come the closer we get
- 15:56Speaker 8: to the end of the second.
- 15:57Speaker 6: Remind people where people can watch you or view you
- 16:01Speaker 6: or read you. I know you're all over X. You
- 16:02Speaker 6: doing a great job. Follow him on X if you
- 16:04Speaker 6: haven't already. I got a little thing. I'm gonna talk
- 16:06Speaker 6: about social media a little bit later on too. But
- 16:08Speaker 6: where can people read your stuff?
- 16:10Speaker 4: Oh?
- 16:10Speaker 8: Steven Adams WV on X and in partners with news

- 19:18Speaker 6: Today, I want to knock out a couple of texts
- 19:20Speaker 6: because I asked people to text in what they thought
- 19:22Speaker 6: of the President's speech last night. Then I'm going to
- 19:24Speaker 6: talk about this telethon that's going on in southern West
- 19:26Speaker 6: Virginia for flood victims. Text says, remember the decorum portrayed
- 19:30Speaker 6: by the two Howler monkeys, Lauren Bobert and Marjorie Taylor
- 19:34Speaker 6: Green when they yelled at Joe Biden during his address
- 19:37Speaker 6: to Congress. Then Joe Biden just went on giving his
- 19:40Speaker 6: address to Congress because Joe Biden isn't a fragile, soft
- 19:43Speaker 6: sissy like Donald Trump.
- 19:46Speaker 4: It's a Texter.
- 19:47Speaker 6: Textas says yesterday in the Health Committee, Tom Tacuba offered
- 19:50Speaker 6: multiple amendments to a bill, and his fellow Republicans shot
- 19:53Speaker 6: down every single one of them. The twenty twenty five
- 19:55Speaker 6: Senate is much more conservative than Takubo, and the Old
- 19:59Speaker 6: Guard leadership is being and the Old Guard is being
- 20:03Speaker 6: punished hard. Why because they were so heavy handed when
- 20:06Speaker 6: they had the numbers. Now they have to pay for
- 20:09Speaker 6: what they did, says tax Textas says, if your kid
- 20:13Speaker 6: won't tell you why they want to change their pronoun
- 20:16Speaker 6: or how they identify, you're likely a terrible parent. As
- 20:19Speaker 6: a Texter, Texas, I wish Trump would have called out
- 20:26Speaker 6: the Democrats for not applauding the thirteen year old. Yeah,
- 20:33Speaker 6: you know, the Senates or I'm sorry. The Democrats did
- 20:36Speaker 6: a lot of setting last night, and there's a lot
- 20:39Speaker 6: of people upset about the fact that they that they
- 20:41Speaker 6: had a thirteen year old cancer survivor and did not
- 20:45Speaker 6: get the proper respect. According to a lot of people
- 20:49Speaker 6: from the Democrats.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Going on the.
- 20:52Speaker 6: Texta says he should have said, you hate me so
- 20:54Speaker 6: much you refuse to cheer a cancer surviving child. Texas
- 20:59Speaker 6: out Green was asked several times to take his seat.
- 21:02Speaker 6: This is a congressman from Texas. He brought the booting
- 21:05Speaker 6: on himself. Tex says I loved how Folcahannas reference to
- 21:10Speaker 6: Elizabeth Warren became so triggered that she was shaking lol.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Tex says, I love Trump's speech. I love the list
- 21:16Speaker 6: of all the Doge findings of where our money was wasted.
- 21:19Speaker 6: I just wish he'd have called out the Democrats for
- 21:21Speaker 6: not applauding the thirteen year old as a Texter. All right,
- 21:25Speaker 6: so we've all seen the devastation and the flooding in
- 21:28Speaker 6: southern West Virginia. This Saturday night, there's going to be
- 21:30Speaker 6: a telethon Aaron to try to help out a lot
- 21:33Speaker 6: of folks down there, and it's going to feature some
- 21:35Speaker 6: names that you probably heard of. Joining me now a
- 21:37Speaker 6: couple of guys that are behind putting this thing together.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Actor Kevin Sizemore, native of Princeton, West Virginia. Kevin, good morning,
- 21:43Speaker 6: welcome to the show.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Hey there, good morning. How why are you, Bud?
- 21:47Speaker 4: I'm fine?
- 21:47Speaker 6: And Burke Allen you know Burke by now he's my
- 21:50Speaker 6: semi manager slash agent advisor, gets my drinks for me
- 21:55Speaker 6: when we're on the road somewhere.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Burke and good morning, welcome to the show.
- 21:58Speaker 7: To you too, sir, Chief bottle last year and happy
- 22:01Speaker 7: to be here, thanks Stave.
- 22:03Speaker 6: So one of the great things about I, like you know,
- 22:05Speaker 6: in dealing with these folks that are putting together this telethon,
- 22:07Speaker 6: is that both Burke and and Tom are Tom I'm sorry,
- 22:11Speaker 6: Kevin are are proud West Virginia natives and believe in
- 22:16Speaker 6: giving back. Burke, let me start with you as a
- 22:19Speaker 6: southern West Virginia, well actually Kevin is too, but as
- 22:21Speaker 6: a Southern West Virginia you and I have certainly seen
- 22:23Speaker 6: a whole lot.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Of this over the years.
- 22:25Speaker 6: And you were one of the folks, you and some
- 22:27Speaker 6: others that put together at Telethon but following the floods
- 22:29Speaker 6: in this area and in Greenboro County back in at
- 22:32Speaker 6: twenty sixteen.
- 22:34Speaker 7: Yeah, so we you know, we did that in twenty sixteen,
- 22:37Speaker 7: and our buddy land Dallia G. Murphy Junior was instrumental
- 22:40Speaker 7: in that as well. And in two hours time we
- 22:43Speaker 7: put together four days. We raised in two hours three
- 22:46Speaker 7: hundred and forty thousand dollars to go to folks there
- 22:49Speaker 7: in eastern Knoac County and Greenbero County. And then this
- 22:54Speaker 7: one happened Valentine's Day weekend. And you know, Kevin live
- 22:58Speaker 7: is Los Angeles, now I'm based in the See and
- 23:01Speaker 7: we saw this these Facebook feeds, but there was no
- 23:04Speaker 7: national coverage of how awful that flooding was across a
- 23:08Speaker 7: thirteen county squat down there, and you know, eastern Kentucky,
- 23:12Speaker 7: West Virginia, even in parts of southern Virginia, and you know,
- 23:16Speaker 7: we just kept seeing it and we couldn't not jump
- 23:19Speaker 7: into help. And I will tell you the telethon is
- 23:23Speaker 7: going to be aired all over the state of West Virginia.
- 23:25Speaker 7: It's also going to stream online, and you guys in
- 23:28Speaker 7: West Virginia Media Corporation were going to stream it on
- 23:30Speaker 7: your websites too. So this is something where we can
- 23:34Speaker 7: all come together. I heard your show earlier talking about
- 23:37Speaker 7: the division. This this is something completely different. This is
- 23:40Speaker 7: where West Virginians come together to help West Virginia and extracize.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Well, let me ask you, as a as a West Virginian,
- 23:47Speaker 6: as Burke said, now, you know making it big out
- 23:50Speaker 6: in Hollywood, why.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Is it important for you to give back?
- 23:54Speaker 3: Well, this is my hometown, this is my home state.
- 23:57Speaker 3: This is the people that I grew up with. These
- 23:59Speaker 3: are the people that my family, my grandparents said. You know,
- 24:03Speaker 3: it's all extended family. When you when everyone says West Virginia,
- 24:06Speaker 3: it's not just West Virginia, it's West Virginia. It's Virginia,
- 24:09Speaker 3: it's Kentucky, it's Caroline Is it's it's that area that
- 24:12Speaker 3: we call home. It's it's you know, where I got
- 24:15Speaker 3: my roots, and I want to make sure that if
- 24:18Speaker 3: I can do anything, I want to try to do something.
- 24:21Speaker 3: And by being in Los Angeles, you know, Burke and
- 24:25Speaker 3: I were talking about a week and a half or
- 24:26Speaker 3: so ago and we're just well, what can we do?
- 24:30Speaker 3: And just like Burke said before, you know, when we
- 24:32Speaker 3: came back and it did the telethon whatever like twenty sixteen,
- 24:37Speaker 3: it was it was a huge success. And we're just
- 24:40Speaker 3: hoping that we can capitalize on what we did in
- 24:42Speaker 3: twenty sixteen and hopefully even do better to help people out.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Burke, who well's going to be taking part in this.
- 24:48Speaker 4: So what's the entertainment like?
- 24:51Speaker 7: Well, so let me say this first of all, because
- 24:53Speaker 7: it's just a really cool thing. Homer Hickham is going
- 24:56Speaker 7: to come up. He's driving up from Huntsville, Alabama, the
- 24:59Speaker 7: Rocketson in USA where he worked in obset. He's going
- 25:02Speaker 7: to be one of our costs, which was really cool.
- 25:04Speaker 7: You know, Hober grew up in mcdallatown in West Virginia,
- 25:07Speaker 7: so that's you know, close to home Colewood, which was
- 25:10Speaker 7: make paymous and Octor the sky this got washed away
- 25:13Speaker 7: and hammered so Hober's going to come up and join us.
- 25:16Speaker 7: Landau will be there, and we have a mix of
- 25:18Speaker 7: folks who are going to be in the TV studio
- 25:20Speaker 7: down there at Bluefield, and also we're beaming in from
- 25:23Speaker 7: all over the place, from the Grand Old Opry Broub, Hollywood,
- 25:26Speaker 7: from Las Vegas, so it's gonna be huge. Charles Wesley Godwin,
- 25:30Speaker 7: a great West Virginia artist, is going to participate too.
- 25:32Speaker 7: So it's a long list. And I should give you
- 25:36Speaker 7: the website by the way, it's two Virginians, One Mission
- 25:39Speaker 7: dot com. If you want to make a donation, Two
- 25:41Speaker 7: Virginia's One Mission dot com.
- 25:44Speaker 6: And I would imagine guys putting this together, as you said,
- 25:46Speaker 6: in such a short amount of time. He did it
- 25:48Speaker 6: back in twenty sixteen, so now you're a veteran at it.
- 25:51Speaker 6: But I would imagine, I mean, I Burke you and
- 25:53Speaker 6: I talked I think at the end of last week,
- 25:55Speaker 6: and you just had this idea and now it's going
- 25:57Speaker 6: to happen this week. It does take a lot to
- 25:59Speaker 6: pull this off in a short amount of time.
- 26:02Speaker 7: Well, so Keviny, I think right after this call, you're
- 26:05Speaker 7: doing a zoom call with a bunch of schools that
- 26:07Speaker 7: are going to participate. How's that work, Kevin.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Well, I'm literally they're looking at me right now as
- 26:12Speaker 3: I'm on the zoom call. I'm talking. I'm literally on
- 26:17Speaker 3: with Bluefield and Princeton and Pike View and Tazzle and
- 26:20Speaker 3: we're hitting all of these schools as we speak right now.
- 26:22Speaker 3: But I wanted to make sure I got this radio
- 26:25Speaker 3: interview in before I end up getting on this because
- 26:27Speaker 3: we're doing a lot of stuff, and like Burke said,
- 26:30Speaker 3: you know, Charity and Joshua Bolden over WBZA have gone
- 26:34Speaker 3: out of their way to accommodate us like they did
- 26:38Speaker 3: in twenty sixteen, and we just can't be more grateful
- 26:41Speaker 3: for all the people that are supporting us. We have
- 26:44Speaker 3: a lot of people that jumped on board last minute,
- 26:46Speaker 3: like he just said, from all over. Even t Graham
- 26:49Speaker 3: Brown is going to be doing a song from us
- 26:52Speaker 3: from the Grand O' Lotpry and it's really cool.
- 26:56Speaker 6: We're very fortunate, and I love the fact that you've
- 26:58Speaker 6: got these people, Burke, that are, as you said, beaming
- 27:01Speaker 6: in from Nashville and all these other places, just like
- 27:04Speaker 6: you had back in twenty sixteen. All Right, the website
- 27:07Speaker 6: is two Virginia's One Mission dot com And what time
- 27:10Speaker 6: does everything start work? On Saturday night?
- 27:14Speaker 7: So the show goes live on the air at six
- 27:16Speaker 7: o'clock Eastern. Who goes to nine o'clock? People can watch online,
- 27:21Speaker 7: they can watch on TV stations all over the state
- 27:24Speaker 7: of West Virginia too, and listen on radio. And thank
- 27:27Speaker 7: you to West Virginia Broadcast Association. This is where Dave
- 27:31Speaker 7: and We'll flup you up a little bit. This is
- 27:33Speaker 7: where local broadcasters really jump in there and get things done.
- 27:37Speaker 7: We hear so many people sling mud at the media
- 27:41Speaker 7: these days, but local radio stations, local TV stations, this
- 27:45Speaker 7: is when you guys really shine. You come to help
- 27:48Speaker 7: people out, and we.
- 27:49Speaker 6: Thank you for that, all right, real quick, because I
- 27:52Speaker 6: know the mister Seismore's got to go talk to the
- 27:54Speaker 6: young ands there.
- 27:54Speaker 4: We don't want them eating the paste or anything, you know.
- 27:56Speaker 4: While we're waiting on.
- 27:57Speaker 6: Him to get on there. It's two for with an
- 28:00Speaker 6: asset that in two Virginia's One Mission dot Com. I
- 28:02Speaker 6: have not checked out the website yet, Burt, but I
- 28:04Speaker 6: presume that there is a link where people can make
- 28:07Speaker 6: their donations on that website.
- 28:09Speaker 7: That's right, you did get right to it and the
- 28:12Speaker 7: money will go right there to the folks that need
- 28:14Speaker 7: it most and hear the Appalachians, and so thank you
- 28:17Speaker 7: all for listening. And if you can give whatever you can,
- 28:20Speaker 7: and if you can't give, the join us and that
- 28:24Speaker 7: will help us to say thank you to the hundreds
- 28:26Speaker 7: of volunteers that have helped out those flood victims in Appalachia.
- 28:31Speaker 7: Those are the real heroes.
- 28:32Speaker 6: All right, guys, best of luck to you. We'll talk
- 28:34Speaker 6: again soon. I appreciate what you've done for all the
- 28:36Speaker 6: people of West Virginia and on into eastern Kentucky as well.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Thanks a lot, guys, We'll be watching this weekend.

- 34:09Speaker 6: Zuckerberg has decided that I share too much on the
- 34:13Speaker 6: radio page and I've been cut off. They think I'm
- 34:18Speaker 6: spam or something spam anyway, the Dave Allen Radio Facebook
- 34:25Speaker 6: account apparently has been suspended due to over sharing, they say,
- 34:30Speaker 6: and what I do on the show is on the
- 34:33Speaker 6: page is basically I share things about this show. I
- 34:36Speaker 6: share things from all of our stations. We have a
- 34:38Speaker 6: lot of stations here in the building. I share that stuff,
- 34:40Speaker 6: stuff about WVU, Marshall sports, the Reds, the Dirty Birds,
- 34:46Speaker 6: city of Charleston, stuff can on County, you know, just
- 34:48Speaker 6: stuff that I think pertains to the region people may
- 34:52Speaker 6: want to read. And apparently they saith I share too much.
- 34:56Speaker 6: So the Dave Allen Radio Facebook page has been suspended.
- 35:01Speaker 4: I will say I am on X.
- 35:03Speaker 6: I'm not a big fan of X, the artists normally
- 35:05Speaker 6: known as Twitter, but I am on there and they
- 35:07Speaker 6: don't limit things like that. So if you want to
- 35:08Speaker 6: follow me on X, it's at Dave A seventy.
- 35:12Speaker 4: So let me tell you what.
- 35:15Speaker 6: Let me knock out some texts and then I'll give
- 35:16Speaker 6: my opinions because I'm more interested in what you have
- 35:18Speaker 6: to think than what I think. Text says, going back
- 35:21Speaker 6: to yesterday's show, great closing remarks, Well, thank you. I
- 35:23Speaker 6: appreciate that. And by the way, cheap plug. If you
- 35:26Speaker 6: want to listen to any of the shows, you can
- 35:28Speaker 6: check them out. Not on Dave Island Radio, but you
- 35:30Speaker 6: can go to the WCCHS network Facebook page, you can
- 35:33Speaker 6: go to the WHS page on x you can go
- 35:36Speaker 6: to WCHS network dot com YouTube. There's a variety of places.
- 35:40Speaker 6: But I do appreciate the texture of saying that. Okay,
- 35:44Speaker 6: text says Trump used as a brave, strong, young cancer
- 35:47Speaker 6: survivor as a prop despite cutting billions and funding for
- 35:51Speaker 6: cancer research, we applaud the young man. You can also
- 35:55Speaker 6: oppose the heartless actions of a carnival barker, says a Texter. Yeah,
- 35:59Speaker 6: I alluded to this earlier. I thought it was you look,
- 36:03Speaker 6: if you don't like President Trump, and I'm not the
- 36:05Speaker 6: biggest Trump fan in the world, okay.
- 36:07Speaker 4: But when they had a young man.
- 36:12Speaker 6: Who's a cancer survivor, and I agree with what one
- 36:15Speaker 6: of the other textures said, you can't put your hatred
- 36:18Speaker 6: for one man aside long enough to applaud this young
- 36:20Speaker 6: man for going through more than what a lot of
- 36:22Speaker 6: these people will ever face in four lifetimes. I mean,
- 36:25Speaker 6: that was pretty shallow and a lot of crap. I'll
- 36:28Speaker 6: be honest with you about that. Let me see Texas, Dave. Wow,
- 36:32Speaker 6: President Trump had the best speech I've ever heard in
- 36:34Speaker 6: my lifetime. Democrats so sad and predictable in their ridiculous behavior.
- 36:39Speaker 6: Thank god President Trump is in the White House, Texas.
- 36:45Speaker 6: It was shameful when the Democrats didn't share a thirteen
- 36:48Speaker 6: year old that had brain cancer and are less than human.
- 36:51Speaker 6: The Democratic Party is done in this state and in
- 36:54Speaker 6: this nation. I don't know whether it's done in this state,
- 36:57Speaker 6: I think or in the nation. I think that I
- 37:01Speaker 6: think that maybe the old way of doing business has changed,
- 37:05Speaker 6: and in the election, I think proved that. Text to Dave,
- 37:11Speaker 6: remember when Trump made fron of crippled children. Where was
- 37:16Speaker 6: the outrage.
- 37:17Speaker 4: There wasn't any. Texas.
- 37:19Speaker 6: Trump said thirty thousand people were killed building the Panama Canal.
- 37:22Speaker 6: Where is he getting this crap from? Yeah, you can
- 37:26Speaker 6: look up some fact checking on the president's speech. Last night,
- 37:29Speaker 6: I saw a former member of the legislature here in
- 37:32Speaker 6: West Virginia now living out of state, who made a
- 37:34Speaker 6: comment that a fact checker died of a heart attack
- 37:37Speaker 6: from overwork. On the speech last night. There was a
- 37:39Speaker 6: lot of bending the truth on a lot of things.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Tex said.
- 37:44Speaker 6: The only thing that's gone down to the Trump is
- 37:46Speaker 6: a stock market. He didn't mention that text says no,
- 37:52Speaker 6: how many no's do I have here? No? No, no, no,
- 37:55Speaker 6: no no. You can't say you applaud the young man,
- 37:58Speaker 6: but don't applaud Trump. You literally sat there on your
- 38:01Speaker 6: hands and it was beamed around the world. The world
- 38:04Speaker 6: saw what the Democrats did. It won't be forgotten as
- 38:07Speaker 6: a texture. I agree with that statement. Republican says, a
- 38:15Speaker 6: texture had this country soaring like the Hindenburg Dave, I
- 38:20Speaker 6: believe you're what's called terminally online. No, I'm not terminally online. No,
- 38:24Speaker 6: I just have I like to share information, you know
- 38:27Speaker 6: about things. I'm not terminally online. Probably be better off
- 38:33Speaker 6: if I weren't. Let me see, Okay.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Read that one. I appreciate textures.
- 38:38Speaker 6: I don't need to text me the same thing like
- 38:39Speaker 6: three times, though I do appreciate it. Though Texas, I
- 38:43Speaker 6: think Doge needs to look into the cost of running
- 38:46Speaker 6: the West Virginia Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse talk about fraud
- 38:49Speaker 6: and waste. Amazing what people actually get paid to do.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Well.
- 38:52Speaker 6: I'll take that up with Greg Thomas on the show tomorrow.
- 38:55Speaker 6: So on to the President's speech last night. It was
- 38:57Speaker 6: one hundred minutes longest I think I read longest one
- 39:01Speaker 6: of that type in history. Not a State of the Union,
- 39:03Speaker 6: but rather it was an address to joint sessions of Congress.
- 39:09Speaker 6: And for the ones who showed up are the ones
- 39:11Speaker 6: who didn't get kicked out. He of course praised the
- 39:14Speaker 6: actions of Doge and said that his first month in
- 39:17Speaker 6: office was the most successful first month in history. He
- 39:21Speaker 6: is doubling down on the tariff issue and alluded to
- 39:24Speaker 6: the fact that Americans may suffer a little, but not
- 39:28Speaker 6: much well. According to the Yale Budget lab the tariffs
- 39:34Speaker 6: could cost the average household up to two thousand dollars
- 39:38Speaker 6: annually the price of a new car. According to these
- 39:43Speaker 6: folks who study this stuff, the price of a new
- 39:45Speaker 6: car is expected to go up around three thousand dollars
- 39:49Speaker 6: because of the terriffs. That is according to JP Morgan research.
- 39:55Speaker 6: He seemed the president did to blame former President Biden
- 39:59Speaker 6: for and this is a quote, letting the price of
- 40:01Speaker 6: eggs get out of control in quote, Now we can
- 40:04Speaker 6: fact check that a little. The price did soar under
- 40:08Speaker 6: former President Biden, and they're going to even higher under
- 40:14Speaker 6: President Trump. But the experts, see what I did there,
- 40:17Speaker 6: Experts say it's because of the bird flew, which has
- 40:21Speaker 6: led to the deaths of one hundred and thirty six
- 40:23Speaker 6: million birds since twenty twenty two. Not so much in
- 40:29Speaker 6: my opinion, on the watch of Biden or Trump. But
- 40:34Speaker 6: there's enough fact checking for the moment. Simply google it
- 40:37Speaker 6: for yourself. Now, a few moments in the speech, representative
- 40:40Speaker 6: and we've talked about it on the show, Representative al Green, No,
- 40:43Speaker 6: not that Al Green, this is a representative out of
- 40:47Speaker 6: Texas was evicted from the House Chamber. The President had
- 40:51Speaker 6: just referenced the election, calling it a mandate. Al Green
- 40:55Speaker 6: then stood up waving his cane, saying, quote, you have
- 40:57Speaker 6: no mandate to cut medicaid. He was shown the door.
- 41:03Speaker 6: And you know, I don't know what was more embarrassing
- 41:06Speaker 6: last night watching for the first time ever a representative
- 41:09Speaker 6: of being kicked out or other members channing USA USA
- 41:16Speaker 6: like they were watching Ivan Colaff wrestling Dusty Rhodes on
- 41:19Speaker 6: Georgia Championship Wrestling in nineteen eighty two. Afterwards, Al Green,
- 41:25Speaker 6: who serves as I said out of the Houston area,
- 41:27Speaker 6: said quote, there are times when it's better to stand
- 41:30Speaker 6: alone than not to stand at all. I mean, you know,
- 41:35Speaker 6: I come away with this question, as I do every
- 41:37Speaker 6: time I watch something like this, what are we becoming
- 41:40Speaker 6: as a country. It's like the country has become one
- 41:42Speaker 6: giant Jerry Springer episode. But that's exactly what the president
- 41:47Speaker 6: thrives on. And I'm not just saying this to hate
- 41:49Speaker 6: on Trump. I mean the whole body was embarrassing, from
- 41:54Speaker 6: not cheering and applauding the cancer kid to channing USA,
- 41:58Speaker 6: to having one person being three own out and just
- 42:02Speaker 6: like the exchange with Zelensky last week, and like so
- 42:05Speaker 6: many other things going on in Washington and in some
- 42:07Speaker 6: cases now trickling down to Charleston, it's it's sad. And
- 42:12Speaker 6: we had Democrats holding up signs saying false and save Medicaid,
- 42:16Speaker 6: musk steals, etc. I asked the question again, what has
- 42:19Speaker 6: happened to our country? This is not the country of
- 42:22Speaker 6: Ronald Reagan.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Uh.
- 42:25Speaker 6: And for people to sit there and not stand when
- 42:28Speaker 6: the President of the United States comes in, I mean,
- 42:30Speaker 6: I'm sorry that's wrong, and I will call out Democrat.
- 42:33Speaker 6: But if if it were, if the Republicans did the
- 42:35Speaker 6: same thing, I'd called them out to like it or not,
- 42:37Speaker 6: this is the president of the United States of America.
- 42:39Speaker 6: I didn't vote for the guy, voted for him twice,
- 42:42Speaker 6: I didn't vote for him this past time. I'm not
- 42:43Speaker 6: happy that he's the president of the United States. However,
- 42:45Speaker 6: he is the president of the United States. But you know,
- 42:49Speaker 6: Trump doesn't really care because he thrives on this stuff.
- 42:52Speaker 6: He loves it. He loves it, and it does nothing
- 42:54Speaker 6: but further energize his base in Washington and back home.
- 42:59Speaker 6: So my good friend Howard Monroe, who does a show
- 43:04Speaker 6: similar to Mind frequent talk line guest does a show
- 43:06Speaker 6: similar Mind up North, alluded to the misinformation, which he
- 43:11Speaker 6: just called lies. He posted on social media that if
- 43:15Speaker 6: I get fired for this, Murphy're in charge for the
- 43:17Speaker 6: rest of the show that he thought some Republican members
- 43:20Speaker 6: of Congress may run up on stage and unzipped the
- 43:23Speaker 6: president pants while on stage. Monroe also pointed out the
- 43:27Speaker 6: irony that last night's spectacle took place in a place
- 43:30Speaker 6: where Trump's followers attempted to overthrow the government on January
- 43:34Speaker 6: sixth on that I got nothing. I just strongly feel
- 43:39Speaker 6: we somehow got to manage to try to get our
- 43:41Speaker 6: country back. I mean when I say get it back,
- 43:45Speaker 6: I don't mean get it back from Trump. I mean
- 43:47Speaker 6: get it back from the loonies that are out there
- 43:50Speaker 6: on both sides. And there's enough Republican lunatics that enough
- 43:53Speaker 6: Democrat lunatics. But I think somewhere there's some people in
- 43:56Speaker 6: the middle that just say, we want a damn normal
- 43:59Speaker 6: country again.
- 44:01Speaker 4: That's what we want. Will you get it? I don't know.

- 47:31Speaker 6: I mean President Trump being the one that didn't serve.

- 47:42Speaker 6: vote the Republican Party for the most part. I just
- 47:44Speaker 6: don't vote for Donald Trump. The rest of the Republican Party.
- 47:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm right there, but not with Trump. Sorry.
- 47:54Speaker 6: I will get to that in just one second. I
- 47:55Speaker 6: do appreciate Murphy letting me know we are connected with
- 47:58Speaker 6: the Capitol. I got a couple of texts I want
- 47:59Speaker 6: to get to.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Then go to that.
- 48:03Speaker 6: Texays, have you noticed the more viewers that Fox News has,
- 48:07Speaker 6: the more wacko the country gets. That's an absolute fact.
- 48:10Speaker 6: That network just types anything that man and his little
- 48:12Speaker 6: Nazi buddy Stephen Miller want to do. It is crazy,
- 48:16Speaker 6: says the Texter. Text says, if there's such a giant
- 48:21Speaker 6: physical mess, why isn't some of that being thrown at
- 48:23Speaker 6: Eric Tarr, the chairman of the Finance Committee, and not.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Just Jim Justice? Says a texture.
- 48:30Speaker 6: Tex says, has anyone besides me noted that Trump stood
- 48:33Speaker 6: up and delivered that long speech without faltering, taking a
- 48:35Speaker 6: break or even a sip of water, says a texture
- 48:39Speaker 6: Texas Dave stops saying both sides. It sounds ignorant to
- 48:42Speaker 6: the rest of us who have our own ideas and
- 48:44Speaker 6: political views outside the two party malays of today's government
- 48:47Speaker 6: of the billionaires, by the billionaires, for the billionaires, says
- 48:51Speaker 6: a Texter. All right, so I'm gonna hold off on
- 48:55Speaker 6: something else I was going to get to. I'll get
