- 0:37Speaker 2: some soul searching. I don't believe everyone deserves a platform,
- 0:42Speaker 2: and if I afford someone the opportunity to speak, I
- 0:45Speaker 2: have to justify it. Today's guest falls very squarely into
- 0:49Speaker 2: this difficult category. Peter Atos has been described as one
- 0:53Speaker 2: of the worst sex offenders in Australia's history.
- 0:57Speaker 3: The man dubbed the Silver Gun Rapist has been sentenced
- 1:00Speaker 3: to twenty eight years in prison.
- 1:02Speaker 2: The copy locked him up recently described him.
- 1:06Speaker 1: A merciless offender, an evil piece of trash for Sikh units.
- 1:12Speaker 2: The Silver Gun Rapist, as Vetos, was known, rigged terror
- 1:16Speaker 2: on Victoria during a fifteen month period in the late
- 1:19Speaker 2: nineteen seventies, when he committed at least sixteen rapes at gunpoint.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Police are hunting a massed gunman targeting women in Melbourne's Southeast.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Authorities say no community can feel safe tonight.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Captured in nineteen seventy nine, Beethos was sentenced to a
- 1:35Speaker 2: maximum of twenty eight years jail, the heaviest sins for
- 1:39Speaker 2: sexual assault since the death penalty was abolished for rape
- 1:42Speaker 2: in nineteen forty eight. He was released in September nineteen
- 1:47Speaker 2: ninety six, seventeen years into his sentence. He's never spoke
- 1:51Speaker 2: into the media, but now facing his mortality, he wants
- 1:55Speaker 2: to get something off his chest. He has information that
- 1:58Speaker 2: he believes could help solve two of the Frankston Taynong murders,
- 2:03Speaker 2: and it came from the killer. Another notorious sex offender,
- 2:07Speaker 2: Raymond Edmonds, known as mister Stinky.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Edmunds, defetied killer who terrorized Shepperton, serving life without.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Parole for two murders and multiple rapes.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Athos didn't come to me directly. The approach came from
- 2:21Speaker 2: his daughter. When I spoke to Stacy, had to ask
- 2:25Speaker 2: her why she would stand by her notorious father, let
- 2:28Speaker 2: alone do it in public as she proposed. That was
- 2:32Speaker 2: an important reason for doing this interview, to acknowledge her
- 2:35Speaker 2: courage and try to make the authorities act on the
- 2:38Speaker 2: information her father is sharing before he dies. I agreed
- 2:43Speaker 2: to speak to Peter Atos on that basis, but this
- 2:47Speaker 2: one act of redemption does not, and cannot ever excuse
- 2:50Speaker 2: the depray of acts he committed against his victims. There's
- 2:54Speaker 2: no coming back from that.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Let's just stop by identifying yourself. Could you tell me
- 3:00Speaker 3: what your name is and what your history is?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Peter, Oh, Peter Aidos got charged by the media.
- 3:08Speaker 6: I'm the silver gun rapist. They charged me with a
- 3:12Speaker 6: variety of.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Different charges concerning rape and assault, and about a dozen
- 3:17Speaker 1: or something or whatever it is, right, it's on me raptured.
- 3:20Speaker 6: I can't remember everything.
- 3:21Speaker 5: My name is Stacy Fatos. It's not my legal last name,
- 3:26Speaker 5: but it's what I'm using for the purposes of this.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I'm a thirty six year old and this is my dad,
- 3:31Speaker 5: and I met him as an adult at twenty seven,
- 3:35Speaker 5: and we've been in touch over the years since then.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Why did you seek him out? What did you know
- 3:41Speaker 4: of his story before you did that.
- 3:44Speaker 5: I found out when I was about fourteen or fifteen
- 3:46Speaker 5: that he was my father, and my mum had been
- 3:50Speaker 5: one of the women that testified against him because he
- 3:53Speaker 5: had several girlfriends she was a girlfriend, had no idea
- 3:56Speaker 5: what he was doing, and because of Mum's role in that,
- 4:02Speaker 5: I never had anything to do with my dad growing up,
- 4:06Speaker 5: and I needed to meet him. I used to look
- 4:09Speaker 5: in the mirror and judge myself, and meeting him at
- 4:13Speaker 5: the end of the day was the best thing I
- 4:14Speaker 5: ever did for myself, because no one is all the
- 4:17Speaker 5: way through evil, I think, and I could see things
- 4:20Speaker 5: that made me feel better about myself, if that makes sense.
- 4:25Speaker 6: Yeah, you see.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I'm also very conscious of you, Stacy.
- 4:28Speaker 3: You're an innocent party in all of this, and you're
- 4:31Speaker 3: very brave to have this conversation in my opinion, okay,
- 4:35Speaker 3: because she is the one that made me come and
- 4:38Speaker 3: I understand, and she's doing this. There's something in your
- 4:41Speaker 3: relationship that needs to be dealt with, obviously, and you've
- 4:45Speaker 3: been going through a process I'd understand, is that right?
- 4:48Speaker 3: And you stuck by your dad and many others wouldn't.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Ryan and mirror for the first twelve months, and then
- 4:55Speaker 1: I got her in a relationship when she found me
- 4:57Speaker 1: at twenty seven, you found your dad, right, They tried
- 5:01Speaker 1: and good day.
- 5:02Speaker 5: I did that. My mum said, who had testified against
- 5:05Speaker 5: try to do shit. I'm never talking to you again.
- 5:08Speaker 5: So if that hadn't happened, maybe I wouldn't have had
- 5:10Speaker 5: this great relationship with my dad. But because that happened,
- 5:14Speaker 5: I did have a relationship with him, and I got
- 5:16Speaker 5: to learn that he's not all bad and he's a
- 5:19Speaker 5: good dad, and there's more to him than just his
- 5:22Speaker 5: rap sheet.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Vetos's rap sheet shows he was convicted of ten counts
- 5:28Speaker 2: of rape and many burglaries, but some police believe he
- 5:31Speaker 2: committed many more sexual assaults, citing a boast he made
- 5:35Speaker 2: to one victim that she was number twenty one.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Can I ask one really important question? Are you confident
- 5:43Speaker 3: that his rap sheet covers everything?
- 5:47Speaker 5: I have asked him the same question.
- 5:51Speaker 6: My shory hadn't changed.
- 5:54Speaker 5: He's asking, is your rap sheet.
- 5:56Speaker 6: For like complete my rap sheet?
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 6:00Speaker 6: Oh you got me rap sheet?
- 6:01Speaker 5: Yeah no, but it.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Is everything that you did on that rap sheet, on
- 6:08Speaker 3: the one that that charged me with. No, but everything
- 6:10Speaker 3: you've done nothing since I got out that I have
- 6:14Speaker 3: ever done for them to quer him on.
- 6:18Speaker 5: He's pointing out to you, if you've got any secrets
- 6:21Speaker 5: in your closet pre nineteen seventy nine, they might come
- 6:24Speaker 5: out from.
- 6:25Speaker 6: This if I've got something.
- 6:29Speaker 5: I've asked him and he said he's been concerned about
- 6:33Speaker 5: you and that nothing's.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Going to be I wasn't concerned about you, Stacy, because
- 6:36Speaker 3: you're the innocent party in all of this, and you've
- 6:39Speaker 3: formed a relationship with your dad based on his honesty
- 6:42Speaker 3: with you and transparency, you see. So I know this
- 6:46Speaker 3: is difficult for you, both of you. So I just
- 6:49Speaker 3: want to be clear.
- 6:50Speaker 5: I feel like I have to because I feel that
- 6:53Speaker 5: him having a daughter adds legitimacy to him somehow. And
- 6:56Speaker 5: it's the fact that I ran grimestoppers twice. I rang
- 7:00Speaker 5: them the first time, and I rang them back a
- 7:01Speaker 5: couple of weeks later and said, you haven't even scooped
- 7:04Speaker 5: him up and talked, and what the hell?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Hm?
- 7:09Speaker 4: Did you have a chance to ask him about all
- 7:11Speaker 4: the things that he did? Yes, I was that conversation.
- 7:14Speaker 5: He's always been honest with me about that, really honest.
- 7:20Speaker 2: When Vetos was released in nineteen ninety six, his critics
- 7:24Speaker 2: believed it was only a matter of time before he reoffended.
- 7:28Speaker 2: In an article in The Age newspaper titled can Evil
- 7:31Speaker 2: release its script on a Man? Wetos was described as
- 7:34Speaker 2: a calculating coward and evil personified. Give him six months
- 7:39Speaker 2: to a year, he'd be back in jail. However, three
- 7:43Speaker 2: decades on, Wetos has not reoffended. He presents himself as
- 7:48Speaker 2: a rare successful example of rehabilitation behind bars.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Oh well, I'm sure that because i'd done the sex offender.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Of course, it was six weeks, six weeks, and I said,
- 8:00Speaker 1: I think to the psychologist he's John Bestow.
- 8:04Speaker 6: I said, team him that I'm not a pedophile.
- 8:08Speaker 1: He said, only I asked that same question about in
- 8:10Speaker 1: two weeks time of a six weeks cause because they
- 8:13Speaker 1: reckon I was too good to be true, so I'm
- 8:15Speaker 1: right to life. And I made a clear in the
- 8:20Speaker 1: sex depend of course we had to go back. And
- 8:23Speaker 1: he says, well, I'll ask you that question. He says,
- 8:26Speaker 1: to see if I was only pulling their legal or whatever.
- 8:28Speaker 6: You know.
- 8:29Speaker 1: But because what happened is when I got in there
- 8:32Speaker 1: and I got my sentence, I was dirty on that.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And then I realized I was psychoanalyzing myself to find
- 8:39Speaker 1: out why I'm in jail. And I found out I
- 8:43Speaker 1: couldn't blame anyone.
- 8:45Speaker 6: I was the problem, right.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I kept them coming back to me. Right, So I'd
- 8:51Speaker 1: done the cause. Well, it was true to his word.
- 8:54Speaker 1: He asked me two weeks later, and I had the answer.
- 8:57Speaker 1: He says, what's the difference. I said to him, there's
- 9:00Speaker 1: no difference. The only difference is that we're all rapists.
- 9:04Speaker 6: But the only thing that's differing is the target range.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Did you have something likes old middle age or we
- 9:11Speaker 1: were very young or in between? You know, I'm in
- 9:15Speaker 1: sort of. That's the anything different. We're all rapists. That
- 9:18Speaker 1: was the right answer for so were telling me. If
- 9:21Speaker 1: I didn't come up with that, I wasn't tuned in.
- 9:23Speaker 1: But I was tuned in two weeks after I've done
- 9:25Speaker 1: the course.
- 9:26Speaker 3: So you just said that you had to tell them
- 9:30Speaker 3: why you're in jail. You have to understand why you
- 9:33Speaker 3: in jail. Well, why did this whole thing happen?
- 9:36Speaker 6: Oh? How it happened is I got married.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I always wanted to caught a ac pick at fence,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and I thought, oh, yeah, well I got a nerd
- 9:44Speaker 1: for a wife, right, A nerd. A nerd is just a.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Normal girl of old fashion, very old fashion. Because her
- 9:51Speaker 6: name was Brown, right.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And then what happened was her father was committing violence
- 9:58Speaker 1: on her mother, and he was a drunk. He was
- 9:59Speaker 1: always getting drunk, and he wasn't given enough to run
- 10:02Speaker 1: the house. And the mother was working. That's how I
- 10:04Speaker 1: met a. She was working at the same if I
- 10:07Speaker 1: Rest Springs where I started working, right, I was working there.
- 10:11Speaker 6: That's how I met the daughter.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And then what happened was she tried to groom me
- 10:16Speaker 1: into to be the perfect man.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Ve Tasa's first wife was Shirley.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And then when she was pregnant with Paul and shed
- 10:24Speaker 1: by my son, she had him, she kept on trying,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I was no good and this and that, you know everything,
- 10:31Speaker 1: and she was going to threaten me she's going to
- 10:33Speaker 1: have abortion, and I said to her, over my dead body.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Well she never carried it out, but a thought in
- 10:39Speaker 1: my head was there. But then I got into another relationship.
- 10:44Speaker 1: She was a school teacher and she got pregnant.
- 10:48Speaker 6: And then when I.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Told her, well, when I come back, we'll talk about it.
- 10:52Speaker 1: But then she was determined she wanted the career. When
- 10:56Speaker 1: I come back to talk about it, she says, she's
- 10:59Speaker 1: already done it. And I said to her, horses yes,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and then it's all come out into that set vanished. Course,
- 11:05Speaker 1: right when I was talking and I'm right alive, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: like that blew my brain, you know what I mean?
- 11:11Speaker 1: And I said, didn't I have a say? She says
- 11:16Speaker 1: it was her body. I thought I got it in
- 11:19Speaker 1: my head all women were the same. And then I
- 11:22Speaker 1: just went on the rampach. You know what I mean,
- 11:23Speaker 1: don't you?
- 11:24Speaker 3: So you you took it out on other women.
- 11:28Speaker 4: You took out your anger.
- 11:29Speaker 1: On people that never done or think to me, stupid,
- 11:34Speaker 1: because that's how it works. You never hurt the one
- 11:37Speaker 1: that you love or you're with, or you know, when
- 11:38Speaker 1: you got a tour with someone else, innocent victory.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Most sex offenders pray on their own children, their own grandchildren,
- 11:44Speaker 5: their niece, their nephew, whatever, a stranger on stranger sex attackers,
- 11:48Speaker 5: you're probably aware as much more uncommon. And yeah, that's
- 11:54Speaker 5: like as far as being a dad who's been a
- 11:57Speaker 5: good dud to me or over the years and in
- 12:01Speaker 5: the seventies there was a lot of women feeling in
- 12:04Speaker 5: power for the first time. That was all the women's
- 12:07Speaker 5: lib stuff. And I think that it's just a very
- 12:09Speaker 5: sad story.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Really, the whole thing is sad. I get sad for you.
- 12:15Speaker 4: I think it's sad for the women that you write
- 12:19Speaker 4: it wasn't.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Therefore, that's why I was saying before I went and
- 12:23Speaker 1: done to the court, and I was telling me, you're
- 12:25Speaker 1: too good to be true.
- 12:26Speaker 6: I had the right.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Answer because I was saying, there was a psycho analys
- 12:30Speaker 1: and I said, the problem was me, not anyone else.
- 12:33Speaker 6: I was hurting victims.
- 12:34Speaker 4: How did it start though?
- 12:35Speaker 3: What was the what was the world where you decided
- 12:37Speaker 3: this was going to be what you were going to do?
- 12:39Speaker 6: Well, what happened was this?
- 12:41Speaker 1: It just happened that I got into a place and
- 12:44Speaker 1: I was robbing, and there was a female in the house,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and she said, I don't hurt me. You can do
- 12:50Speaker 1: anything you like. She put the thought in your head.
- 12:53Speaker 6: You know what I mean.
- 12:55Speaker 4: These are conversations I presuning you've had with you.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I've heard it, but I don't feel this is
- 13:00Speaker 5: related to ton.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Yeah we're going to get there, but I know you're
- 13:04Speaker 4: doing it.
- 13:05Speaker 7: Understand offending, but that's what it was, right, And I'm
- 13:09Speaker 7: all less, said, well, you know they can participate and
- 13:12Speaker 7: I'll just sit there, I watch, and.
- 13:15Speaker 6: Now I left.
- 13:17Speaker 1: That's how I knew there was another person running around
- 13:19Speaker 1: with a shotgun.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Right, So you're saying that all the offenses that were linked.
- 13:23Speaker 6: To you, well go all of them you did.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Yes, I would have said you did a lot more
- 13:30Speaker 4: than you were charged with.
- 13:31Speaker 6: No, no, no, that was burglaries.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Just burglaries.
- 13:34Speaker 6: Yeah, burglary.
- 13:35Speaker 4: He did a lot more.
- 13:36Speaker 6: Bur and they dropped it down to thirty one thirty two.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I says, no, I'm not was receiving with something else,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and I was receiving. And I've got two years each
- 13:44Speaker 1: one and a year for the other one because I
- 13:46Speaker 1: told him I was going to get it hurt alls singlely.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Ye.
- 13:50Speaker 4: So how many rates were you charged with? Peter?
- 13:54Speaker 6: I got it on that poon, that form. It's all there,
- 13:57Speaker 6: everything in there, I've ea charge.
- 13:58Speaker 1: They can't charge me with anything else because I'm clean.
- 14:01Speaker 6: I understand that.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Until now they didn't carry on. I didn't come back
- 14:05Speaker 1: to Rude who sent a card, because I sent a
- 14:09Speaker 1: Christmas card to the.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Mother for we'll get there. I want to finish with
- 14:13Speaker 4: your issues. So that's want of work out.
- 14:15Speaker 1: They got me for all the one because all mine.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Was you need with a firearm?
- 14:20Speaker 3: How did the silver gun come into your offending? Because
- 14:22Speaker 3: that's what you were known as.
- 14:24Speaker 6: I had found it you've hit a house. Yeah, I
- 14:27Speaker 6: was robbing a house, But what sort of gun was it?
- 14:31Speaker 1: Young American ear Little twenty two.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Buy in large. As far as the media has been concerned,
- 14:38Speaker 5: my dad's been flying under the Raidar'm mostly forgotten for
- 14:41Speaker 5: the last thirty years. As you're probably aware now, Adrian
- 14:45Speaker 5: Patterson did a story about him last year that was
- 14:48Speaker 5: not factual, said that he arrested him and he found
- 14:52Speaker 5: him through a nineteen eighty seven car, and I'm like, well,
- 14:54Speaker 5: how can he do that? When he was arrested in
- 14:56Speaker 5: seventy nine, I was in job.
- 15:00Speaker 4: This was the detective.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, the podcast, So.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Why would he risked that being under the radar? Right,
- 15:10Speaker 5: no one really has ever known who my father is.
- 15:13Speaker 5: I'm coming out for this because I think it's too important.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Why we've got stuff to lose? Why would we do
- 15:20Speaker 5: this if we didn't believe it.
- 15:21Speaker 4: I'm interested in your motives, Frankly.
- 15:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I'm a mom and a woman.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Yes, your dad's done what he's done, and he's paid
- 15:29Speaker 3: his debt to society. I mean, I think there are
- 15:31Speaker 3: people who suspect you did.
- 15:32Speaker 6: More though no, no, they're all firearms more.
- 15:35Speaker 5: I know who did more and it wasn't my dad.
- 15:38Speaker 6: No, that's fine. They never dropped anything that they tried
- 15:42Speaker 6: to believe.
- 15:43Speaker 4: You didn't stop at one or two. You did know
- 15:46Speaker 4: that you do well.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Watch on the thing.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I think there was no charge with ten. You were
- 15:52Speaker 4: charged with ten.
- 15:52Speaker 6: I believe all actually were all on there. They charged me.
- 15:55Speaker 4: People believe he did sixteen.
- 15:57Speaker 1: No know who charged him sixteen, okay, but people believe
- 16:01Speaker 1: that you did success.
- 16:02Speaker 5: There's a lot of misinformation. I've read things that have
- 16:04Speaker 5: said seventeen sixteen. I've read constantly that he has a
- 16:08Speaker 5: middle name John, and it's just not true. But for
- 16:10Speaker 5: some reason, everyone always causing Peter John. He doesn't have
- 16:13Speaker 5: a middle name.
- 16:14Speaker 3: So many factual things. But this is something that you've
- 16:17Speaker 3: already dealt with between each other. Okay, tell me, how
- 16:20Speaker 3: did you broach this conversation? Surely you'd want to know.
- 16:23Speaker 3: You want to trust your dad. You're establishing a relationship
- 16:27Speaker 3: with him at age twenty seven. Did you say to him, Dad,
- 16:30Speaker 3: you've got to be honest with me.
- 16:32Speaker 6: I have that happened?
- 16:34Speaker 5: Yeah? Well, I didn't know anything about him except for
- 16:36Speaker 5: what i'd heard from others or read in the media,
- 16:40Speaker 5: and I decided that, yeah, I needed to know him myself.
- 16:45Speaker 5: I couldn't remember him. And when I did actually meet him,
- 16:48Speaker 5: I realized that the first trauma in my life was
- 16:51Speaker 5: my dad getting taken away when I was an infant.
- 16:54Speaker 5: And I don't think anybody explained it to me, and
- 16:59Speaker 5: it was I had a stepdad that I believed was
- 17:04Speaker 5: my real dad for some time that passed away. And yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 5: I didn't expect really to have a lasting relationship with
- 17:14Speaker 5: my dad when I met him.
- 17:17Speaker 4: What was the purpose of it? Do you you saw it?
- 17:19Speaker 4: How did you find him? By the way?
- 17:21Speaker 5: I you utilized an investigator?
- 17:23Speaker 4: And how long did it take?
- 17:25Speaker 5: Not long at all?
- 17:26Speaker 4: So how did that come about for you? Peter? You
- 17:28Speaker 4: were contacted by the investigator?
- 17:31Speaker 5: No, I rocked up at his house when I rocked
- 17:35Speaker 5: up at your house the first time, and I said
- 17:37Speaker 5: to you, Peter, yeah, he thought I was a police officer.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I know who she is. She call me right, And
- 17:44Speaker 1: I said yeah, She said, what did you want me
- 17:46Speaker 1: to call you? I said, God, I'm your fucking dad, right,
- 17:49Speaker 1: I acknowledge is straight away.
- 17:51Speaker 4: How many children do you have?
- 17:54Speaker 1: Me?
- 17:56Speaker 6: Throw it there?
- 17:57Speaker 4: And how many of them speak to you?
- 18:00Speaker 6: The other two. You are to shamed.
- 18:02Speaker 3: So how important was it to you when Stacy knocked.
- 18:06Speaker 4: On your door?
- 18:07Speaker 6: She's the love on your life, and of.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Course we're honest with people that we love. And have
- 18:14Speaker 4: you been honest with her?
- 18:15Speaker 6: Yeah? The all the time.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Do you think he's been honest with you?
- 18:20Speaker 5: I cannot think why he wouldn't be. I don't know
- 18:23Speaker 5: why he would fuck with me when I'm his only family.
- 18:28Speaker 5: I'm the only child that talks to him. I don't
- 18:30Speaker 5: think he's spending the end of his life messing with
- 18:33Speaker 5: me for shits and giggles. I think it's real, and
- 18:37Speaker 5: I have concerns and until someone can come up to
- 18:40Speaker 5: me and say, Stacy, I need to explain to me.
- 18:44Speaker 5: And I think there's something there. I think that it's
- 18:47Speaker 5: worth others hearing. I think that there's something in it,
- 18:51Speaker 5: and that's bigger than him.
- 18:52Speaker 4: You live the double life. You live the life of deception.
- 18:57Speaker 4: You see everybody.
- 18:58Speaker 3: You're having false names, you're having girlfriends on the side,
- 19:01Speaker 3: you're having all these Tell me, how do you reflect
- 19:05Speaker 3: on your level of honesty with the people that were important.
- 19:08Speaker 4: To you before.
- 19:11Speaker 6: A good bad boy?
- 19:13Speaker 1: I say I had girl friends, not girl friend saying
- 19:21Speaker 1: when I broke off.
- 19:22Speaker 3: I just wanted to get back to this issue of trust, okay,
- 19:25Speaker 3: because Stacy's taken a substantial risk in her life to
- 19:30Speaker 3: trust you.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Yeah, you can't deceive her.
- 19:34Speaker 6: I'm not deceiving her, or you can't know I'm muilty
- 19:37Speaker 6: as shell. Well what do I've done?
- 19:40Speaker 3: What do you say to the women that you raped?
- 19:44Speaker 4: The victims?
- 19:45Speaker 6: Well, I'm can I explain it?
- 19:48Speaker 1: I'm so shi like you know that I've devastated them
- 19:52Speaker 1: because I wasn't in me right mind at a time,
- 19:56Speaker 1: because I blamed. I got it in my head that
- 19:59Speaker 1: they were all the same, whether or not or women.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I've never met a woman that had the same personality
- 20:06Speaker 1: or anything.
- 20:07Speaker 6: They're all.
- 20:09Speaker 1: They've got perfection, they've got their own individuality.
- 20:12Speaker 6: All women.
- 20:13Speaker 1: They're not what you called but I put them on
- 20:16Speaker 1: They're all the same. I couldn't put it, really do
- 20:19Speaker 1: words what the drama I've put the victims in? But
- 20:22Speaker 1: I know it was my fault. You know, I just
- 20:24Speaker 1: kept on coming. That's why I've done the course to
- 20:26Speaker 1: better myself. And I don't know anger management or don't
- 20:29Speaker 1: pursuit of excellence because you.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Were very angry because the thing about those attacks was
- 20:35Speaker 3: you were angry and terrifying and you threatened to kill them.
- 20:40Speaker 1: No, No, I never threatened them. That's something I might
- 20:45Speaker 1: appointed that he's done, and I told them, you're going
- 20:47Speaker 1: to do what I want.
- 20:48Speaker 6: You to do.
- 20:50Speaker 3: So how do you feel about your state of mind
- 20:54Speaker 3: back then when you were doing these things?
- 20:56Speaker 4: How do you feel about it now?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Well, I was terrible for me, like for me to
- 21:01Speaker 1: do all these things, you know, I mean, like I
- 21:04Speaker 1: take before his onsibility of all I heard and pain
- 21:07Speaker 1: or I've done. And it's just not it's not just
- 21:11Speaker 1: a victim. It's got to do with the whether it's
- 21:14Speaker 1: a partner and all their family.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Collateral damage, all the collateral damage.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And you know I'm part of that.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Yere aren't their children?
- 21:22Speaker 6: Everyone?
- 21:23Speaker 5: My mother was part of that. She was a twenty
- 21:25Speaker 5: two year old woman that you know, had no idea
- 21:30Speaker 5: and there's been a lot of collateral damage.
- 21:34Speaker 3: And you had to cease relations with your mother in
- 21:39Speaker 3: order to have any relationship with your father.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Well, look, when I had children, I was back in
- 21:45Speaker 5: touch with my mom, but I just feel like it
- 21:47Speaker 5: never went back the same. After that time, I initially
- 21:50Speaker 5: contacted my dad. She's scared of him, like she's she testified.
- 21:58Speaker 6: This is really another question you asked.
- 22:00Speaker 5: I was brought up to be scared of him, and
- 22:03Speaker 5: I guess that was part of why I had to
- 22:04Speaker 5: meet him.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Why are you not scared now?
- 22:08Speaker 1: Ah, I don't know, because I'm softness butter, and I warned,
- 22:15Speaker 1: what if she means a person? It's the tour motive.
- 22:20Speaker 1: And I've been proven right with the things I've said
- 22:23Speaker 1: to her about what could happen to her?
- 22:27Speaker 3: Tell me was it became like a big deal in
- 22:31Speaker 3: the papers these things were going on. How did you
- 22:33Speaker 3: feel when you read about what you've done?
- 22:38Speaker 6: Well, there's nothing I can do about it.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I just had at the time.
- 22:41Speaker 4: They did give you pleasure.
- 22:43Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, it didn't because I knew I
- 22:48Speaker 1: screwed up because I already done the course.
- 22:51Speaker 6: And I was saying, while you.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Were doing this, in that period of time where you
- 22:54Speaker 3: committed ten rapes, this was making the papers, the people
- 22:59Speaker 3: you were terrorizing Melbourne.
- 23:01Speaker 5: At that time, everyone in Melbourne was scared. I don't
- 23:04Speaker 5: remember it, but from people who do, the whole city
- 23:07Speaker 5: was on edge.
- 23:09Speaker 4: And how did you feel when you read about the
- 23:11Speaker 4: way these events were.
- 23:13Speaker 6: Well, I got bad.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I felt real bad, you know, I felt bad because
- 23:16Speaker 1: so I knew it wasn't their fault.
- 23:18Speaker 3: So why didn't you stop when you felt bad at
- 23:20Speaker 3: the time, when you were doing these things?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Until I didn't shop after the first one. Then it
- 23:27Speaker 1: was just a continuation, you know, like I think. And
- 23:30Speaker 1: then I'd say to himself, I shouldn't be doing this,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you know what I mean, right, why.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Did you say you shouldn't be doing this?
- 23:36Speaker 1: Well, well, I knew that I shouldn't be hurting people
- 23:40Speaker 1: because they haven't done anything to me.
- 23:42Speaker 6: That's the bottom line.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I can't explain anything else, right, that's because I knew
- 23:48Speaker 1: I was at fault, and there's nothing I could change it.
- 23:51Speaker 1: There's no words I can express to take the hurt
- 23:55Speaker 1: feel and I give him the victim and her family
- 23:58Speaker 1: other than saying listen, I'm truly truly sorry.
- 24:01Speaker 6: And by this shattered me when who was talking about
- 24:05Speaker 6: all this bloody start?
- 24:07Speaker 2: Right?
- 24:07Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 24:09Speaker 1: And I can't change all that just happened, You know
- 24:14Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 24:15Speaker 4: Then you can't.
- 24:15Speaker 1: You can't know, so I had to just cop that.
- 24:18Speaker 1: But I've been the whipping boy and she's been the
- 24:21Speaker 1: whipping girl. Coppying Schlak right, because you know when people
- 24:25Speaker 1: take it out on her, because she's my the order.
- 24:29Speaker 2: In nineteen eighty six, Vetos was in Pantridge Prison and
- 24:33Speaker 2: began to associate with an even more henous offender, Raymond Edmunds. Edmunds,
- 24:40Speaker 2: known as mister Stinky for his vile body odor, was
- 24:44Speaker 2: serving life without parole for two murders and multiple sexual
- 24:47Speaker 2: assaults against women. Weetos claims that Edmunds made admissions to
- 24:52Speaker 2: him about the Frankston Tinyl murders. Between May nineteen eighty
- 24:58Speaker 2: and October nineteen eighty one, six girls and women were murdered,
- 25:03Speaker 2: their bodies dumped in bushland in the Tonelong North and
- 25:07Speaker 2: Frankston areas southeast of Melbourne. Among the victims were fourteen
- 25:13Speaker 2: year old Katherine Headland and seventy three year old Bertha Miller.
- 25:18Speaker 2: According to Vatos, Edmonds had told him information about these
- 25:22Speaker 2: murders that only the killer could have known. He was
- 25:25Speaker 2: determined to act on this.
- 25:28Speaker 3: You're in jail and then on May first, nineteen eighty nine,
- 25:33Speaker 3: a letter is sent to the then Victoria Police Deche
- 25:37Speaker 3: Commissioner at Kelblaire talking about Catherine Headland.
- 25:42Speaker 4: Did you write that.
- 25:43Speaker 6: Yes, type, I'll borroing a typewriter, that's right.
- 25:47Speaker 4: But why did you write that letter?
- 25:49Speaker 1: Because before that I sent a Christmas card to Headland's mother.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Why would you do that?
- 26:00Speaker 1: Because I realize the conversation I was having with this bloke,
- 26:08Speaker 1: a man I just look at dislike to him, you
- 26:10Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like?
- 26:11Speaker 4: Who is that man?
- 26:13Speaker 1: By?
- 26:13Speaker 6: Itman? All right, mister stinky heesh.
- 26:20Speaker 2: The Christmas card, sent in December nineteen eighty eight contained
- 26:23Speaker 2: a handwritten note from Vetos which read, I hope in
- 26:26Speaker 2: writing to you, I do not cause you or your
- 26:29Speaker 2: family any stress. I can comprehend the pain, the agony
- 26:32Speaker 2: you've endured to lose a loved one, Catherine. Not knowing
- 26:36Speaker 2: when or if the perpetrator singular or plural, will ever
- 26:40Speaker 2: be caught, well, the new year may be a good
- 26:43Speaker 2: one for you. Things may unfold, including the name of
- 26:47Speaker 2: the perpetrator whose deeds make Trua look like kids. Stuff.
- 26:52Speaker 2: I'll keep in touch sometime in the new year, signed
- 26:55Speaker 2: anonymous friend. Vetos sent the card after talking with Edmunds.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Tell me where were you when you began.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Speaking to Edmunds when he first came into h division.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I was a billet and they'd be putting him in
- 27:12Speaker 1: a separate yard. Shame as when I come in. So
- 27:15Speaker 1: you're the billet in h Division and that's where I
- 27:18Speaker 1: talked to him, and no one's talking to him. And
- 27:20Speaker 1: I said, you wanted something to rude And I said,
- 27:23Speaker 1: I've got something over you want something?
- 27:27Speaker 2: Five months after send him the Christmas card, Bethos wrote
- 27:30Speaker 2: to then police Commissioner Kel Blair with information about Headland
- 27:34Speaker 2: and Bertha Miller, whose bodies were found close together in
- 27:38Speaker 2: a quarry at Taynong North in November nineteen eighty.
- 27:42Speaker 8: Is the TIONG file gathering dust? Have you run into
- 27:46Speaker 8: a dead end? Do you need help? With a multitude
- 27:49Speaker 8: of questions but very few answers. Did you know you
- 27:52Speaker 8: were dealing with a mass murder and a scale never
- 27:54Speaker 8: seen in this country? Only the top American serial killers
- 27:58Speaker 8: surpassed this cold blooded killer.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Did you know Edwin A.
- 28:02Speaker 8: Boyle was another victim and others across three states? Did
- 28:07Speaker 8: you find the approach that Bertha was wearing on the
- 28:09Speaker 8: day of a murder? All the pair of silver Sterling
- 28:12Speaker 8: bluebird earrings belonging to Catherine.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Vetos wrote the letter after talking to Edmonds on the
- 28:18Speaker 2: question of taking souvenirs from sexual assault victims. Now seventy
- 28:23Speaker 2: seven years of age, Vetos is a bit vague on
- 28:26Speaker 2: the details after all these years, so Stacy prompts him.
- 28:30Speaker 5: The police talk to you about souvenirs, and they said,
- 28:34Speaker 5: you had a fucking souvenir from a rape that was
- 28:37Speaker 5: a bluebird? No, no necklace?
- 28:42Speaker 4: Did you take souvenirs?
- 28:45Speaker 1: No?
- 28:46Speaker 4: Why not that?
- 28:48Speaker 6: I wasn't what do you call it?
- 28:50Speaker 1: That I was in there treating him like shitgirls, rapingham,
- 28:54Speaker 1: you know what I mean, not taking him shut.
- 28:56Speaker 5: If he took anything, I believe it was as a thief,
- 29:00Speaker 5: not as a memento. Does that make sense?
- 29:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what that's sub did come up in
- 29:06Speaker 1: one of my trials, a victim that I've been a
- 29:10Speaker 1: convicted of said that the bluebird ear rings was hers necklace.
- 29:15Speaker 6: Necklace.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 29:17Speaker 1: So how I got him to tell him about the
- 29:21Speaker 1: bluebird earring it was? I was telling him about the
- 29:24Speaker 1: necklace in my case that the girls said that was
- 29:28Speaker 1: hers and it wasn't right. And I says, if they
- 29:32Speaker 1: find the ear rings jewelry and he says no, he says,
- 29:37Speaker 1: he says they have to get a head first.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Hang on, did he first tell you anything about anyone
- 29:44Speaker 5: having bluebird earrings like the necklace that your victim had.
- 29:48Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, well it was in the headline. So yeah,
- 29:53Speaker 6: you're talking.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Let's take a step back. Yeah, so forget this right.
- 29:59Speaker 3: You were accused of taking a necklace, which you did
- 30:01Speaker 3: not do.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Correct.
- 30:03Speaker 6: Yeah, the family guilt, they found it guilty.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Of him anyway. But then you're talking to Raymond Edmunds.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Yes, and I told him the story about that, said,
- 30:12Speaker 1: if you've ever taken any jewelry from those things, ray
- 30:15Speaker 1: I said to him, I wasn't calling him thinking that
- 30:19Speaker 1: you're gone if.
- 30:21Speaker 6: They find him. And then that's when he said, they
- 30:24Speaker 6: have to get her head first, they have to get out.
- 30:28Speaker 5: He said, my dad's told me. He said that the
- 30:33Speaker 5: girl still has the ear rings.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Yes, but they got something.
- 30:36Speaker 1: There was a brooch that the broach was that Miller had,
- 30:42Speaker 1: so Edmunds, what she mentioned was what he called it
- 30:46Speaker 1: had a broach and the other one had ear rings,
- 30:49Speaker 1: but the young one had ear rings.
- 30:51Speaker 4: And he said, he said this to you.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he said that two of his victims had one
- 30:58Speaker 1: had a brooch and the other one had bluebird earrings and.
- 31:01Speaker 4: He'd taken those.
- 31:03Speaker 1: You're gone if they found him. I'm telling him he
- 31:04Speaker 1: was gone, and he says, I have to get her
- 31:06Speaker 1: head first.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Police took the information in the letter very seriously, believing
- 31:12Speaker 2: it could have come from the killer himself, because it
- 31:15Speaker 2: contained information only the killer would know. However, by this
- 31:19Speaker 2: time police did have Catherine's bluebird earrings, but not Miller's brooch.
- 31:25Speaker 5: We've only just put that together. And I read something
- 31:29Speaker 5: about head shad well, that makes that makes sense in
- 31:35Speaker 5: the context of you saying the girl still has earrings,
- 31:37Speaker 5: because if the head was missing, they're still with the girl.
- 31:40Speaker 6: Unfortunately, that's just to get him talking about it, you
- 31:44Speaker 6: know what I mean.
- 31:45Speaker 4: And did he did he say Catherine Headland?
- 31:49Speaker 6: Good?
- 31:49Speaker 4: Did he say the name Katherine Headland?
- 31:53Speaker 6: You just said the fourteen year old?
- 31:55Speaker 3: He said the fourteen Raymond Edward said to you the
- 31:57Speaker 3: fourteen year old. They'll find the earrings if they find
- 32:01Speaker 3: her head.
- 32:02Speaker 5: Effectively, Yeah, that's with hindsight, that's with hig the miller you.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Were saying that he admitted, but he didn't take none
- 32:13Speaker 4: of that.
- 32:13Speaker 1: He didn't he didn't take the jewelry. You know, my
- 32:16Speaker 1: don't jump. He just said they'd had to get a
- 32:18Speaker 1: head first. Yeah, but he mentioned they had jewelry, trying
- 32:23Speaker 1: to rattle them off. But he says about the miller.
- 32:26Speaker 5: Nobody in the public knew about the jewelry at the time,
- 32:29Speaker 5: So when his letter got into the media, it caused
- 32:33Speaker 5: this big thing. Well, who wrote this letter? Because they
- 32:36Speaker 5: know that the victim had bluebird ear rings? And they
- 32:39Speaker 5: know that another victim had approach And I know who
- 32:43Speaker 5: didn't commit those murders because he was arrested in nineteen
- 32:47Speaker 5: seventy nine, and that's this guy here, So how did
- 32:50Speaker 5: he know? And until someone tells me how he knew?
- 32:55Speaker 5: That's why I will never shut up.
- 32:58Speaker 6: Have you told anybody else this before about the bluebird earrings?
- 33:02Speaker 4: Were you questioned at the time? Did they did know
- 33:05Speaker 4: with the letter?
- 33:06Speaker 1: What happened then was when they come down and raided Pentridge,
- 33:10Speaker 1: they've gone to located the typewriter. But shortly after that
- 33:15Speaker 1: I sent the letter, I got into a fight with
- 33:18Speaker 1: the Kettleton and they shotted me right and I was
- 33:22Speaker 1: down h Division right. That's when they come down and
- 33:25Speaker 1: saw me. But they didn't give me an interview like
- 33:29Speaker 1: you normally would give they said, did I send the
- 33:33Speaker 1: letter to the commissioner? And I said, yes, it's obvious.
- 33:37Speaker 5: To go back to a question you asked, why would
- 33:41Speaker 5: you do that? Well, because he thought he had the
- 33:44Speaker 5: information that was going to solve the crime. He was
- 33:46Speaker 5: telling the headlines I think next year is going to
- 33:49Speaker 5: be a good year for you because he thought that
- 33:52Speaker 5: he had all the answers.
- 33:53Speaker 4: So this is in the Christmas car that you wrote
- 33:55Speaker 4: to family.
- 33:57Speaker 5: And maybe he thought that because he had certain information,
- 34:00Speaker 5: it might help him in some way.
- 34:02Speaker 6: And yes, OK, so.
- 34:05Speaker 3: You're very clear. Let's just that's up a little bit.
- 34:08Speaker 3: You're very clear that ray Edmunds, mister Sinky told you
- 34:13Speaker 3: that effectively he killed Bertha Miller and Catherine Headler.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, because he told me he was in a conversation
- 34:20Speaker 1: that I've had with him a couple of years or
- 34:23Speaker 1: whatever it is. He's rund the tipping he was. He
- 34:26Speaker 1: trusted me because I was doing a twenty eight with
- 34:28Speaker 1: a what he called and then I've got an extra
- 34:29Speaker 1: six months for cutnoe Blake's right, and that's given me
- 34:32Speaker 1: seventeen years twenty five and a half. Right, Yeah, Oh,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I know he made it clear because he was telling
- 34:39Speaker 1: me that he did it. That's when he he had
- 34:42Speaker 1: of things that he was very He used to get
- 34:45Speaker 1: the paper in here, he used to get the missing people.
- 34:48Speaker 1: That's how the tynand come.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Edmunds has never been a strong suspect in the Frankston
- 34:56Speaker 2: tyne On cases because he was living in New South
- 34:58Speaker 2: Wales at the time. It's possible that Edmunds did return
- 35:02Speaker 2: to Victoria for the killings. However, police do not believe
- 35:06Speaker 2: he had the charm and interpersonal skills needed to lure
- 35:10Speaker 2: the women into a vehicle, as it appears occurred in
- 35:13Speaker 2: many of these cases. Vetos says Edmonds also gave him
- 35:17Speaker 2: information about a woman named Edwina Boyle who disappeared in
- 35:21Speaker 2: October nineteen eighty three.
- 35:24Speaker 6: He was looking at it another time. Was you know
- 35:28Speaker 6: the pictures?
- 35:29Speaker 1: I have a mission girls. He says, I know that
- 35:31Speaker 1: girl and that was a Duena Boil.
- 35:34Speaker 4: So Ray Edmonds also new with Wuena Boyle.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Now Dad claims that he wrote the letter and there's
- 35:40Speaker 5: a name that's redacted on that letter. As you can see.
- 35:43Speaker 5: He says that name is a Duena Boyle. However, this
- 35:46Speaker 5: is where we lose people with this story, because Fred
- 35:48Speaker 5: Boyle went to prison for a Duena Boyle's murder.
- 35:51Speaker 3: But how did Dad know he billed his wife and
- 35:55Speaker 3: put her in a barrel? Yeah, planned and then toted
- 35:58Speaker 3: this barrel around.
- 35:59Speaker 1: From Well, the reason why I put that in, the
- 36:01Speaker 1: reason why I put that in He told me about
- 36:05Speaker 1: DNA Boil.
- 36:06Speaker 4: So Edmonds told you that because she was he had
- 36:08Speaker 4: the thing.
- 36:09Speaker 5: I believe he told him that she wouldn't be coming back.
- 36:14Speaker 5: I killed her bit that one way of coming back,
- 36:18Speaker 5: and Greena Boil was actually later found to have been deceased,
- 36:21Speaker 5: and Dad knew about it twenty years before she was found.
- 36:25Speaker 5: How it wasn't him? How if it wasn't Stinky as
- 36:29Speaker 5: someone that Stinky knew. That's all I can think of,
- 36:33Speaker 5: and I can't let go of it.
- 36:34Speaker 6: I'm a mom.
- 36:34Speaker 5: There was a fourteen year old child, I'm a woman.
- 36:39Speaker 5: He's done his time.
- 36:40Speaker 4: Haven't you told police that you call crime stoppers twice?
- 36:44Speaker 4: Has anybody contacted you?
- 36:46Speaker 1: No?
- 36:46Speaker 5: And the second time I rang them back was to
- 36:49Speaker 5: say you haven't even scooped up Peter to ask him
- 36:52Speaker 5: about me, saying he's claiming this.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Of course, there's a reward.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Yes on the Frankston some people might say, you've only
- 37:01Speaker 3: saying this to get a reward.
- 37:03Speaker 5: No, what we've forgotten, what we've left out of this story.
- 37:07Speaker 5: My father claims that before he got slotted, he went
- 37:10Speaker 5: to another prisoner and said, I know this about Stinky.
- 37:13Speaker 5: Let's go and let's tell them and we'll see if
- 37:16Speaker 5: it helps us out and you with our sentences. This
- 37:18Speaker 5: is another man by the name of Kerry Andrews, and
- 37:22Speaker 5: Dad got slotted because of Kettleton. And Andrews went forward
- 37:26Speaker 5: and pretended that he was the one that had been
- 37:28Speaker 5: told these things, and he stole Dad's story.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Yeah, when the cops come down, I can remember they
- 37:36Speaker 1: I told him that it was mister Stinky.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Okay, So you don't think the police believed you about
- 37:41Speaker 3: what you said about Eddence?
- 37:44Speaker 6: I don't think.
- 37:47Speaker 1: So.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Would you give evidence to the police again if they
- 37:50Speaker 3: were interested in talking to you once more?
- 37:52Speaker 4: Yeah? But shoot, what it is is theys A simple question,
- 37:56Speaker 4: yes or no? Would you give evidence?
- 37:58Speaker 1: Well, I'm a bit what he call with them, because
- 38:01Speaker 1: they already made up. They've flame and mine.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Well, these are different police that you're talking about a
- 38:06Speaker 3: long time ago.
- 38:08Speaker 6: Well, well, I suppose I would your daughter's.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Nodding her head. Here, I reckon, she wants you to
- 38:13Speaker 4: do it correct.
- 38:15Speaker 5: It needs to be done. Hence why we're having this conversation.
- 38:19Speaker 5: Someone needs to tell us how my dad knew about
- 38:21Speaker 5: those earrings. It had to have been the person who
- 38:24Speaker 5: told him, or someone else told that person. How else,
- 38:29Speaker 5: how else? This is a forty year old girl. They
- 38:33Speaker 5: run on through that all of the victims were just
- 38:36Speaker 5: as important, all of them, no matter of age. But
- 38:39Speaker 5: this was a child. That's, as a mother, horrifying, and
- 38:44Speaker 5: I can only think about. You know, they say someone
- 38:47Speaker 5: out there must know something about crimes, right, and they
- 38:51Speaker 5: want people to come forward. Well, here we are. We
- 38:54Speaker 5: think we know something.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Because Peter, you're not a well man.
- 38:59Speaker 6: No what I'm pried got.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Cancer, you've got melanomapartments, we've got a model, I'm there.
- 39:06Speaker 4: So you're not a well man. So time is running
- 39:09Speaker 4: out for you to tell this.
- 39:10Speaker 6: That's what I'm frightened of.
- 39:11Speaker 1: And what I said to my daughter, I was going
- 39:13Speaker 1: to tell her why I tell us at least someone
- 39:15Speaker 1: knew what I know, and that had a profound effect
- 39:19Speaker 1: on her and she couldn't keep the secret no more.
- 39:23Speaker 6: And she told me about it.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Now I'm indebted to follow suits me to say, yes, well,
- 39:29Speaker 1: I did tell her all of these things.
- 39:31Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 39:31Speaker 3: Right Another A critic might say that you're just saying
- 39:34Speaker 3: this to please your daughter, who's risked a lot for you.
- 39:39Speaker 3: I'm sticking by you. But are you doing it because
- 39:43Speaker 3: it's true? Because you're pleasing your daughter?
- 39:46Speaker 1: It is true.
- 39:48Speaker 6: I am worried now.
- 39:51Speaker 1: That I might die, and that's what I told her
- 39:54Speaker 1: these things. I might die or he dies. We're not
- 39:59Speaker 1: he's eighty and I'm not too well. If I die
- 40:03Speaker 1: or he dies, that's the end of story. That what
- 40:05Speaker 1: I'm saying, That's what I'm worried about.
- 40:07Speaker 6: And I do she around.
- 40:09Speaker 1: You may at fourteen fifteen, at the time when Shaw
- 40:11Speaker 1: will have happened, and she's got a couple of daughters herself,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and I've got another daughter too. What I'm saying is
- 40:19Speaker 1: I'm frightened and I might die, and then that's the
- 40:22Speaker 1: end of it. Like their cases died. Now, shame that
- 40:26Speaker 1: whatever they shame.
- 40:27Speaker 5: You know, no way to explain how he knew about it.
- 40:31Speaker 5: So people can criticize her what they want, but can
- 40:34Speaker 5: someone please tell me how he knows about the earrings.
- 40:37Speaker 5: If there's some other explanation, whether that's vig pole, because
- 40:40Speaker 5: I'm not going to shut up until i know how
- 40:43Speaker 5: he knew about those earrings.
- 40:45Speaker 4: Well, that's sure, that's someone hears about this. Yes, you're
- 40:49Speaker 4: very courageous.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 40:51Speaker 6: I know I'm proud of it.
- 40:53Speaker 4: You've saved him and you saved him again.
- 40:59Speaker 5: There's things that people, there's things that need to come
- 41:01Speaker 5: to light.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And she made me realize, wake me up and same
- 41:06Speaker 1: because you did.
- 41:06Speaker 4: So let's fay you did some terrible things, go terrible things.
- 41:11Speaker 4: This is an opportunity to do something good.
- 41:14Speaker 1: That's why I'm doing it because simple reason is that's
- 41:17Speaker 1: why I told her all those things. Because I'm worried
- 41:19Speaker 1: to that I might die with all these complications. That's
- 41:23Speaker 1: regardless of what they think, right that it's never going
- 41:26Speaker 1: to get solved after this. This is what I'm saying
- 41:30Speaker 1: to me in order what i'd have to do with
- 41:32Speaker 1: you when you come or if I've got to come
- 41:34Speaker 1: out with something, I'd have to tell you.
- 41:37Speaker 6: She was only fowardeen.
- 41:39Speaker 1: She never fell in love, she never got married, she
- 41:43Speaker 1: never had kids, she never had grand kids.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Let's hope that I'm going to take this back to
- 41:50Speaker 3: the homicide squad and tell them in the conversation. We've
- 41:53Speaker 3: had the people there and we'll see what happens. But
- 41:56Speaker 3: I appreciate you coming forward, and I appreciate your.
- 41:59Speaker 1: The only reason I'm coming forward is because I'm worried
- 42:02Speaker 1: i might die. And that's the end of it. I
- 42:04Speaker 1: don't care as a way, Well, it's not going to
- 42:08Speaker 1: be sholved. It's not going to be incholved.
- 42:11Speaker 5: And to answer the question from before, you know, yeah,
- 42:16Speaker 5: there is a massive reward on it. There's a million
- 42:18Speaker 5: dollars per victim. No, we haven't done this to get
- 42:21Speaker 5: a reward. But is it something that you're aware of
- 42:25Speaker 5: in the background. Of course you are. It's a lot,
- 42:27Speaker 5: and that's why they put it out there to try
- 42:29Speaker 5: to get people to go forward. But how many of
- 42:32Speaker 5: these rewards actually get paid out in the end.
- 42:35Speaker 6: Very few, See, That's what I didn't forget to say.
- 42:41Speaker 1: From the time I sent the letter out and the
- 42:43Speaker 1: cops come and whatever the things I said, I never
- 42:47Speaker 1: asked for any reward.
- 42:48Speaker 6: I was given them for free.
- 42:55Speaker 2: That was the silver gun rapist Peter Vetos and his
- 42:58Speaker 2: daughter Stacy. There is a one million dollar reward for
- 43:01Speaker 2: information leading to an arrest in each of the six
- 43:04Speaker 2: Frankston Time murders. If mister Stinking did turn out to
- 43:08Speaker 2: be the killer of Catherine Hedlund and Bertha Miller, Peter
- 43:11Speaker 2: Atos could stand to collect. What an moment that would be.
