- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, I'm only talking to demand. It's One more Thing.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I'm strong and are a rare.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Michaelangelo hosted One More Thing podcast, very exciting the man.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I wonder does he mean like answering to the man
- 0:17Speaker 2: or the mail?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Who knows person who identifies this man?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Oh lord?
- 0:25Speaker 3: So Michael was gone for several days celebrating his wedding anniversary,
- 0:28Speaker 3: which is how many years?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Four years.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I can't believe we were at your wedding for.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Four years ago.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Anyway, so we had a good time. We went to
- 0:37Speaker 1: the coast and saw, you know, the ocean just relaxed.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It was great.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But unfortunately we got a dead battery along the way,
- 0:45Speaker 1: which really sucked. And so way there, uh no, we
- 0:48Speaker 1: actually stopped at a store to get some supplies and
- 0:50Speaker 1: then went out to the car and dead battery just
- 0:53Speaker 1: didn't start, so we had to get Yeah, so we
- 0:56Speaker 1: called a tow truck and they showed up luckily five
- 0:59Speaker 1: minutes away. So he was really easy, not a big
- 1:01Speaker 1: deal at all.
- 1:02Speaker 2: The last time I needed a tow truck five hours whoa, Yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 2: it was ridiculous. Anyway, long story go ahead. So it
- 1:09Speaker 2: was great.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Guy was super you know, super friendly. They turns out
- 1:13Speaker 1: we do need a new battery. The battery had been
- 1:15Speaker 1: going low, so we finally just said, okay, go ahead
- 1:17Speaker 1: and replace it. So he put it in no problem.
- 1:19Speaker 1: But as he's explaining what's you know, what's happening with
- 1:21Speaker 1: his battery, my wife was talking to him and she
- 1:24Speaker 1: had actually made the call and she was handling the
- 1:27Speaker 1: whole thing, and so he shows up and then you know,
- 1:30Speaker 1: she's talking to him and everything like that. Also he
- 1:32Speaker 1: says to her, excuse me, but I need to talk
- 1:34Speaker 1: to the man, and she goes, he goes, I usually
- 1:37Speaker 1: talk to the husband.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And so how old was this guy?
- 1:41Speaker 1: He was younger. I'd say he was like twenty five,
- 1:43Speaker 1: which surprised me.
- 1:46Speaker 3: And so did she smack him?
- 1:48Speaker 2: No, but she gave lift him right off his feet.
- 1:56Speaker 1: And so I went over there and I, you know,
- 1:57Speaker 1: I'm trying to defend her on her but at the
- 1:59Speaker 1: same time, I'm figure out what's going on with the situation.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Took off your glove and slapped him on the face.
- 2:04Speaker 3: How dare you I challenge you to a duel?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Wow? That's just so tone deaf.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Yeah, just who even who even thinks like that at all? Ever?
- 2:16Speaker 1: But it was funny because he says, well, you can
- 2:18Speaker 1: listen in. He says, that's my wife, thank you, Like
- 2:21Speaker 1: you can listen in.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I'll have to take a break from making cookies over
- 2:26Speaker 3: here to listen a little bit. Yeah, let me put
- 2:28Speaker 3: down the vacuum cleaner.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I'll be right there. It's the clicking of my knitting
- 2:32Speaker 2: needles interferes with you men talking. Do let me know?
- 2:35Speaker 3: Wow, I make you a sandwich.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Did your bride respond in any way to that or.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Just she kind of said, no, I'm capable. I can listen,
- 2:45Speaker 1: sort of like what Katie did. Oh good, I can
- 2:47Speaker 1: listen in.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Huh, what a funny thing to say. An odd thing
- 2:52Speaker 3: to say.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I might say, I would like anticipate that from like
- 2:55Speaker 4: an eighty five year old.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Yeah, men, I just didn't. I don't know people that
- 2:59Speaker 3: talk like that.
- 3:01Speaker 2: That is a shocking thing to say.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Excuse me, the men are talking.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But it was funny because he wanted to explain the
- 3:07Speaker 1: battery to me and what was wrong and stuff like that,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and he was just like, I needed to talk to
- 3:11Speaker 1: the man. I need Usually I explained the stuff to
- 3:13Speaker 1: the man, and I'm thinking, you know, okay, so it
- 3:17Speaker 1: it went fine, but it was just I had to
- 3:19Speaker 1: defend my wife's honor and you know kind of say,
- 3:22Speaker 1: look she can you know, she can listen, and it's fine,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and it's really it's good.
- 3:25Speaker 3: And you know, what are you wearing when you walk
- 3:27Speaker 3: along the beach?
- 3:29Speaker 1: I just walk on jeans and tennis shoes.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Gotcha jeans?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Well it's it's cold. Well yeah, that's the only reason, yeah, tishoes.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, well I can.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Would you be barefooted, Katie? Yes?
- 3:44Speaker 4: Usually barefoot well beaches, uh or flip flops something that's
- 3:50Speaker 4: easy to clear or clean off.
- 3:52Speaker 3: It depends on the California beach. You don't want hyperdue
- 3:54Speaker 3: mic needles sticking out of your toes.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Hold.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, we were in fog. I mean, so it was freezing.
- 4:00Speaker 3: You might stecond step in human pooh.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I was gonna say, if you're like like more central coast, Yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 2: this time of year, it can be foggy and like
- 4:07Speaker 2: thirty five degrees colder than it is inland.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And that's the crazy thing about being to the beach
- 4:11Speaker 3: pretty much always in California's how freaking cold it is.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 4: You know.
- 4:15Speaker 1: The other thing we ran into though, was a public
- 4:17Speaker 1: wedding you're there along the coast, and so people they
- 4:21Speaker 1: set up chairs and they get married in front of
- 4:22Speaker 1: trees and along the ocean. And I wasn't sure quite
- 4:26Speaker 1: what to do. I the wedding was literally going on,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and so my wife wanted to go. Non't know it
- 4:34Speaker 1: and the cake was right there.
- 4:35Speaker 3: You just walk right through the middle. Excuse me, pardon me,
- 4:37Speaker 3: excuse me, nice dressed, excuse me?
- 4:39Speaker 4: Make a piece of the cakes?
- 4:42Speaker 3: Pretty good?
- 4:43Speaker 2: Should I?
- 4:44Speaker 1: After you know, they kissed and they did the whole thing?
- 4:46Speaker 1: Should I go up as they congratulations? I noticed you
- 4:49Speaker 1: have quite a bit of cake, but it'd be okay
- 4:52Speaker 1: if my wife and I have a slice.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I feel like you overcatered this thing. Is all right
- 4:55Speaker 3: if I have a little bit of that.
- 4:57Speaker 2: You don't want to have to haul this stuff home.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Let me help you out with My battery died and
- 5:01Speaker 3: I'm hungry, to.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Be honest, I heard when I thought you said public
- 5:06Speaker 4: wedding like wets themselves.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Too.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I had a public wedding, but not for quite some time.
- 5:16Speaker 2: It's yeah, the old uh yeah, you know. I I oh, boy,
- 5:22Speaker 2: I shouldn't even I should not even stick my toe in.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I was walking by a wedding that was about to
- 5:36Speaker 2: happen with a friend, and he who is married, said
- 5:45Speaker 2: something so profoundly disturbing about what a mistake the young
- 5:51Speaker 2: man was making.
- 5:53Speaker 3: No like to be funny. Really no.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Originally I thought, is this a joke? And I'm reasonably
- 6:02Speaker 2: good at plying to find that out, and uh, it
- 6:05Speaker 2: became clear that it was not.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Wow, did he know said couple getting married?
- 6:10Speaker 3: So it was just a comment on marriage and he's unhappy,
- 6:13Speaker 3: is what that was.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah. I left it alone. Yeah, but it was unmistakable
- 6:18Speaker 2: in its tone.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Whoa, I'm picturing Joe being like that gift of Homer.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Homer Simpson backing into.
- 6:24Speaker 2: The bush exactly with my eyes wide.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, because exactly I'm divorced and I don't have that
- 6:33Speaker 3: attitude about marriage at all.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's too bad. Yeah it is, oh man, And
- 6:40Speaker 2: it's these are people with whom I am have an
- 6:45Speaker 2: ongoing relationship, and it's just odd because it kind of
- 6:50Speaker 2: sits there in the back of my mind, like again
- 6:53Speaker 2: to the Simpsons, the clapping monkey in the back of Homer.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I remember one time I stand with this guy. He
- 7:01Speaker 3: was older, he's probably sixty years old and been married
- 7:04Speaker 3: forever everything like that. But anyway, we're standing outside and
- 7:07Speaker 3: a car went by, like with the tin cans tied
- 7:10Speaker 3: to it and said, just married on it and drive
- 7:11Speaker 3: bite everything like that, and he said it happens. What
- 7:16Speaker 3: an odd comment on right, Well, that's it happens.
- 7:23Speaker 2: That's right up there with I'd prefer to talk to
- 7:25Speaker 2: the male with I don't know how to react to that. Well,
- 7:29Speaker 2: in the power imbalance, when you're counting on the tow
- 7:32Speaker 2: truck driver, you gotta be nice to them. I think
- 7:36Speaker 2: everybody knows that you treat the tow truck driver like
- 7:38Speaker 2: you treat your doctor, because you want to make sure
- 7:41Speaker 2: you know this goes well. Because I need you, you
- 7:44Speaker 2: don't need me.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Have you ever been to a wedding where you thought
- 7:50Speaker 3: it was a terrible idea for them to get married?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Me?
- 7:54Speaker 3: No, never once in your.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Lot that I recall you, Katie, let me scan my
- 7:59Speaker 2: memory banks.
- 8:00Speaker 4: But no, not that I can know.
- 8:02Speaker 3: No, I've been to two and I was right.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think frequently people who believe that at
- 8:14Speaker 2: a wedding are right.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Well, I worked at a bar and there's a lot
- 8:17Speaker 3: of a lot of relationships that came together in the
- 8:21Speaker 3: bar world that were pretty obviously. The one wedding, the
- 8:29Speaker 3: sister punched the maid of honor in the stomach and
- 8:32Speaker 3: it started a brawl and they went ahead and finished it.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But it did not last very long.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Gut punching the maid of honor. That is uh, that's
- 8:44Speaker 2: a rough day.
- 8:45Speaker 3: And then I worked with a guy I knew him
- 8:46Speaker 3: very well, and everybody hated his girlfriend, then fiance, then wife.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Everybody hated her. She was an awful human being and
- 8:52Speaker 3: she treated him horribly, and he came to work every
- 8:54Speaker 3: day and complained about how awful she was. It was
- 8:57Speaker 3: one of those deals. I mean, everybody knew what a
- 9:00Speaker 3: horrible domineering ruined his life sort of person, and everybody
- 9:04Speaker 3: felt bad for him as wishing he wasn't getting married.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It was weird to go to a wedding like that
- 9:08Speaker 3: because I mean all of us were sitting there with like,
- 9:11Speaker 3: I can't believe he's doing this.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I speaking of people I have at least a
- 9:16Speaker 2: slight ongoing relationship with. I know a couple that she
- 9:20Speaker 2: is that regularly humiliates the guy.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's what this was, like takes it. Oh
- 9:26Speaker 3: my god, I got a story about this too. Oh,
- 9:28Speaker 3: I'll let you finish that part. Oh no, no, that's
- 9:31Speaker 3: that's she humiliates him like in front of people.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, it doesn't hesitate to just reduce him
- 9:37Speaker 2: to rubble and it's it's it's hard to take the uh.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I'll get back to the because it'll be a good
- 9:47Speaker 3: ending story for this podcast. I'll get to that one
- 9:49Speaker 3: a second. But the fanciest wedding I think I've ever
- 9:51Speaker 3: been to, and the hottest wedding I've ever been to,
- 9:54Speaker 3: where the people were the hottest, Like everybody was good looking.
- 9:56Speaker 3: They were both models, and all their friends were mo
- 10:00Speaker 3: and everything like that. I mean, it was really an
- 10:02Speaker 3: impressive wedding. They were young too, they're in their twenties.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Boy, so when he was single. I'm at that reception
- 10:07Speaker 2: till the last person leaves, just like you. No, I've
- 10:09Speaker 2: heard this is a good fishing. Great.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Maybe if they get drunk enough.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah look, maybe maybe they won't have their contacts in
- 10:15Speaker 2: the whites a little and I've got a chance.
- 10:19Speaker 3: And anyway, it was really impressive, like super nice on
- 10:23Speaker 3: the ocean, well catered, everybody was dressed up, everybody was
- 10:26Speaker 3: so good looking, and it didn't last I don't think
- 10:28Speaker 3: it was weeks. It was not months. Oh she found
- 10:32Speaker 3: out of something about him or I don't remember what
- 10:34Speaker 3: the deal was, but I mean it fell apart so quickly,
- 10:36Speaker 3: and I thought, wow, that was the That was like
- 10:38Speaker 3: the most looked like something on TV wedding I've ever
- 10:41Speaker 3: been to it. It didn't even last weeks, which I
- 10:43Speaker 3: thought was interesting. Back to the guy I worked with
- 10:46Speaker 3: who everybody hated his girlfriend, who was in his fiance
- 10:49Speaker 3: who became his wife.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Is he comfortable with you talking about this because I've
- 10:52Speaker 2: heard him bring it up before.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Does he know he didn't know who I am? He
- 10:56Speaker 3: didn't know anything?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Oh okay, I thought it was somebody else.
- 10:59Speaker 3: No, no, guy, I mean, if he knows who I am,
- 11:02Speaker 3: you should reach out to me. Dude, I haven't talked
- 11:03Speaker 3: to you in forty years. Thirty years, so that's funny.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I had the wrong person in mind. But anyway, going
- 11:08Speaker 3: been very very long time.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I hope he's not listening because this is kind of hurtful.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Company Christmas Party, Gladys, do you still play the harp?
- 11:17Speaker 3: Lattice Company Christmas Party?
- 11:21Speaker 2: He gets one hundred bucks for playing the harp during
- 11:23Speaker 2: the podcast. You realize back.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Oh that's right.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Contract just says.
- 11:26Speaker 3: The overtime double time exactly. Company Christmas party back when
- 11:31Speaker 3: companies had Christmas parties, and back when companies, if they
- 11:34Speaker 3: did have a Christmas party, were like nice. Like he
- 11:36Speaker 3: got dressed up and we were at a holiday in which,
- 11:39Speaker 3: in this particular time was like the nicest place you
- 11:41Speaker 3: could be. And we're all around the pool and there
- 11:43Speaker 3: was food and drink and everything like that, and people
- 11:46Speaker 3: are dressed up, and for some reason she got mad
- 11:49Speaker 3: at our boss, his boss, my boss, everybody's boss. She
- 11:53Speaker 3: got mad at the boss okay, and started yelling at him,
- 11:56Speaker 3: and she was kind of drunk.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Good idea, yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Started So yeah, that's a good start, right, isn't This
- 12:01Speaker 3: is your buddy's girlfriend. Yeah. Yeah. They weren't married yet,
- 12:05Speaker 3: possibly engaged, but anyway, Yeah, you're at the company Christmas
- 12:08Speaker 3: party and your girlfriend's yelling at your boss and to
- 12:11Speaker 3: show how mad she was, you know, Jerry Springer, they
- 12:14Speaker 3: get mad and like take off their shirts like to
- 12:16Speaker 3: show how mad they are. I've never quite understood what's good.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I've seen guys do that at bars before they get
- 12:21Speaker 3: mad and they take their shirt off like that of class.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I don't understand. She showed how mad she was by
- 12:27Speaker 3: jumping in the pool. She jumped in the pool in
- 12:32Speaker 3: her dress, I'll show you, and because she was of
- 12:36Speaker 3: larger carriage, she floated, and she floated in their water
- 12:39Speaker 3: with her arms crossed like huh oh. She just was floating,
- 12:43Speaker 3: bobbing there in the water in her dress, with a
- 12:46Speaker 3: look on her face like now, what huh are you
- 12:49Speaker 3: gonna say to that trump that?
- 12:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm I'm sorry. The symbolism here escapes me.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I do not You seem to feel like you have
- 13:00Speaker 3: the upper hand, and I.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Understand that you are trying to communicate something, but I'm
- 13:04Speaker 2: not clear on what it is.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Those of us were dry looking down at you. Feel
- 13:08Speaker 3: like perhaps you do not have the upper hand in
- 13:10Speaker 3: this argument. It was such an odd thing. I'm sure
- 13:15Speaker 3: you've made the point you intended to. I'm not sure
- 13:21Speaker 3: this is coming off the way you think it is. God,
- 13:25Speaker 3: that was something we talked about that for a long time.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Oh, I'll bet and he went ahead and got hitched.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, poor son of a gun.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Oh yeah, this is another terrible thing that shows you
- 13:35Speaker 3: what my boss was like. He was a bad guy.
- 13:38Speaker 3: She was of larger carriage, as I said, Oh, oh
- 13:42Speaker 3: when she when they walked down the aisle past all
- 13:44Speaker 3: the people, he mooed. No, I'm not kidding. Wow her
- 13:51Speaker 3: to hear, but for all of us who were sitting
- 13:52Speaker 3: there to hear. Oh, that's just so awful, isn't it.
- 13:55Speaker 3: He was my boss, meaning oh in so many ways.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh, to reduce a human being like that
- 14:03Speaker 2: to that's well. And then is he alive? I mean,
- 14:07Speaker 2: he's alive, I'm gonna punch him in the face. If
- 14:09Speaker 2: he's dead, I'm gonna dig him up and kick his bones.
- 14:11Speaker 3: She was a horrible person, which, oh, there's that. She
- 14:14Speaker 3: was a horrible person, like a horrible person, and he
- 14:17Speaker 3: was horrible to She was horrible to him, and we
- 14:19Speaker 3: all liked him. So there was that. But he's marrying her,
- 14:23Speaker 3: I mean to me, that was the harsh part. Hey,
- 14:27Speaker 3: it's my wedding day. I'm marrying her. I've made the decision,
- 14:30Speaker 3: for whatever reasons, to do this.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah, not cool. No, good, lord man, you worked with
- 14:35Speaker 2: some rotten so.
- 14:37Speaker 3: He did, I really did well.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I guess that's it.
