- 0:00SPEAKER_00: This past week I have learned so much, and one of the biggest lessons I really learned was to be authentic and to not try and be fancy with your story, your business, your life, etc.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: and so forth.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: This week I did a speech in Toastmasters on my story, uh, my life story, and it did not really go to plan.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: It wasn't terrible.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but being a person who has very high um standards for myself, it really was not up to my standard.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, and there were definitely things that I thought I would do much better on that I uh could definitely improve.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And that said, it was partially because I was talking about my story, but I was also putting in some things that were um just like metaphors, right?
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And uh making it too fancy.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And it it it's not that I lied about anything, it's just that I uh scripted it so much that it felt like, even though it was, it felt like it wasn't from my heart.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Uh it felt maybe unauthentic to the audience.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I want you guys to remember no matter how raw, no matter how uh you think other people will look at you, your story is important, your story is valuable, your authenticity is appreciated.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And I have plans to grace the stages as a motivational speaker in order to inspire and motivate others through my journey.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure down the road, yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna compare it to whatever, and I'm gonna make it, you know, maybe more fancy, but being authentic should always be at the base of that.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Honestly, if you're talking about your story, in many cases, you probably don't need to script it.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Maybe put some bullet points so you don't forget about talking about something, but it's your story, you know it better than anyone else.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And on a second note, with this, another thing that really uh this resembled to me was the journey, right?
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: I think too many of us too often do we we get stuck in the constantly desiring only the destination, and so we take advantage and we don't appreciate the uh the journey, right?
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And so I'm sitting here today with 200 around 200 followers on social media, I'm sitting here today having never done a public speech.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I'm sitting here today um having just now started to see some success in my business.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I'm sitting here today having not completed my first book yet.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And I am so grateful that I'm here today because if I just magically woke up tomorrow and my my book was finished, I had done 30 public speeches, uh, I had millions of follower audience, and I was impacting lives, I would love it and I would be grateful and thankful and I would feel blessed, but at the same time, I would not have to had the lessons that I have learned thus far and the lessons that I will continue to learn before I get to that point, and so I know it is very tough to say, yeah, man, you know what?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: I want to go through tough times because they're gonna lead me to the place I want to be at.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: But truly, truly, the destination is not as rewarding as the uh as as the journey.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: And so always remember the journey is truly the goal, not the destination.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: And in a sense, the destinate the the journey is the destination.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Your your goal, uh, you might you might have a goal to do you may you might have a goal to make a hundred grand or a million or ten million, whatever your number is.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Great, I made 10 million, perfect.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: What did I learn on the way there?
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: What challenges did I overcome?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: What uh relationships did I build?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: What problems did I solve?
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: The destination.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: The journey is the destination.
