- 0:16Speaker 1: Returned to glory.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Podcast hunters are from Free Tag Recap Nebraska Accron sixty
- 0:24Speaker 2: eight nothing butt whooping on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Guys,
- 0:32Speaker 2: there's butt whoopings. There's I mean, there's blowouts. There's definitely
- 0:36Speaker 2: games that you win by a lot. But then there's
- 0:38Speaker 2: what happened on Saturday. And it's our first shutout loss
- 0:43Speaker 2: since the Holiday Bowl, I believe when we beat Nick
- 0:47Speaker 2: Foles and the Arizona Wildcats and the late two thousand
- 0:51Speaker 2: and two thousand and nine largest margin of victory since
- 0:56Speaker 2: like nineteen eighty four or six or something like that,
- 1:00Speaker 2: third largest in school history.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Like I said, there's blowouts, but then there's.
- 1:05Speaker 2: What happened on Saturday, and it's very impressive however you
- 1:11Speaker 2: want to look at it.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it was impressive. I will say I got like
- 1:18Speaker 3: halfway through the third quarter, not even halfway through the
- 1:21Speaker 3: third quarter, a couple of men into the third quarter,
- 1:24Speaker 3: and I just felt bad for Akron. I was like,
- 1:26Speaker 3: I'm not even enjoying this, Like it's just like, oh gosh,
- 1:29Speaker 3: these kids, like they came all the way down here.
- 1:33Speaker 3: They're not getting any of the money that Acron's you know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: getting paid to come down here and play. Like once
- 1:40Speaker 3: that kid shanked that punt after having a bad punt
- 1:43Speaker 3: and then they had the field well blocked and missed.
- 1:45Speaker 3: It's like, oh, gosh, you.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Wanted to because they didn't score Week one against Wyoming.
- 1:50Speaker 3: It like, yeah, they make a field goal. Yeah, they
- 1:56Speaker 3: had the ball scoring position. It's like, gosh, these kids,
- 2:00Speaker 3: It's like I just want them to get something to
- 2:02Speaker 3: take home and be like the tape's good. But it's
- 2:04Speaker 3: just like the whole second happens is like when our
- 2:07Speaker 3: backups are killing him. I was like, oh no, Like,
- 2:12Speaker 3: oh that's tough.
- 2:14Speaker 4: I mean, what do you what do you say for
- 2:16Speaker 4: the offensive coordinator? At this point, he's.
- 2:19Speaker 3: The head coach. The head coach is the offensive coordinator.
- 2:22Speaker 3: The cream zips.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Yeah, so basically say you just go out and have fun.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Now at this point, like you haven't scored.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yet, I out and have fun. How can you have fun?
- 2:34Speaker 4: Just just enjoy the ride, I guess, But no, they
- 2:39Speaker 4: they seriously might be one of the worst offenses of
- 2:41Speaker 4: all times.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Was a great either it.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I do think not that this is going to be
- 2:50Speaker 2: all the time, but we talked about the disparity between
- 2:53Speaker 2: the bigger programs that are getting all the money and
- 2:57Speaker 2: resources from NIL and they're your smaller Division I schools,
- 3:02Speaker 2: I mean Division two as well, but Division one fbs
- 3:06Speaker 2: that there's a bigger gap, and the good players from
- 3:10Speaker 2: your your Akrons, your utips from last year, they're going
- 3:14Speaker 2: to play at bigger schools after one year because it's
- 3:17Speaker 2: like a junior college rank now, where if you're really good,
- 3:20Speaker 2: you're gonna get offered and someone's going to pick you up.
- 3:22Speaker 2: So unless you hit on your recruit out of high
- 3:24Speaker 2: school and they're young and all of a sudden they're
- 3:26Speaker 2: really good, they're probably not going to be at your
- 3:27Speaker 2: school for four years. And I think that's what we
- 3:32Speaker 2: saw a little bit with Accord, like they just player
- 3:35Speaker 2: for player, they just didn't have much and more scores
- 3:40Speaker 2: are going to be like this. But that's not to
- 3:42Speaker 2: discredit anything that we did as well, because again you can.
- 3:47Speaker 3: You can still we still had a really good game
- 3:51Speaker 3: a little.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Mount but this was like a this was a ask
- 3:54Speaker 1: kicking something.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I mean it was a lot seven hundred and twenty
- 3:57Speaker 2: eight yards most is twenty fourteen. Like we played some
- 4:00Speaker 2: bad teams, maybe not as bad as Akron, but we
- 4:04Speaker 2: played some poor teams and still don't score sixty eight
- 4:07Speaker 2: on them, shut them out.
- 4:09Speaker 3: And also, you know, you know, we'll talk about the
- 4:13Speaker 3: good stuff Nebraska did, but in ultimately thinks this is
- 4:17Speaker 3: I mean Oregon kind of well. Oklahoma State is like, gosh,
- 4:21Speaker 3: if we played organ this year, we aren't even in
- 4:24Speaker 3: their their stratosphere, Like we would get freaking thumped. If
- 4:28Speaker 3: that's other thumping to Power FORWARDEAM award this we did
- 4:31Speaker 3: the same thing that they did to Oklahoma State, but
- 4:34Speaker 3: we did to Akron could be one of the worst
- 4:37Speaker 3: teams in the country. It's like, man, we are, we're
- 4:42Speaker 3: we had we might have a good year, but we're
- 4:44Speaker 3: not going to be if we we've ben sniffed the postseason.
- 4:48Speaker 3: We're not baking, We're not waiting anything.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Don't yeah, uh, we'll get into the game recap here.
- 4:56Speaker 2: So every week we're gonna have Dak do a little
- 4:59Speaker 2: five minute instant reaction pod that we're going to post
- 5:04Speaker 2: maybe sometimes in this show, but this week we're gonna
- 5:09Speaker 2: put it as a bonus episode, specifically because Dak didn't
- 5:14Speaker 2: watch a single minute of the game. He still hasn't
- 5:16Speaker 2: watched it, doesn't know what's going on alcohol, set in
- 5:21Speaker 2: way too early, way too quick, and didn't watch that
- 5:26Speaker 2: or the Oklahoma game for that matter.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Nope, I was out by about six fifteen.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Anyways, Dak's got a great initial reaction pod to a
- 5:36Speaker 2: game that he didn't watch, nor did he look at
- 5:37Speaker 2: the stats or anything.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Just knew that we won.
- 5:40Speaker 3: But I looked at the stats, and by the time
- 5:42Speaker 3: he did the reaction pod.
- 5:44Speaker 1: He said he did at the beginning of the pod,
- 5:46Speaker 1: but didn't.
- 5:47Speaker 5: I didn't.
- 5:50Speaker 4: So I've looked at the stats now, so I kind
- 5:52Speaker 4: of know what's going on.
- 5:53Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 5:53Speaker 4: But I've tried to just got stats. No, I've not
- 5:57Speaker 4: watched many close of it or in the game. So
- 5:59Speaker 4: this is a straight out straight from the hip that's
- 6:02Speaker 4: out there.
- 6:03Speaker 2: At parts, it can be a little brutal if you
- 6:06Speaker 2: know Dak. It can be funny as well. If you've
- 6:09Speaker 2: already watched it before listening to this episode, sorry good luck.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Otherwise we want maybe a little laugh. After our full recap,
- 6:21Speaker 2: you can go listen to it after this.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So anyways, where do we want to start.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Let's I mean, I think let's start to start up
- 6:28Speaker 2: top with the quarterback and let's start.
- 6:30Speaker 3: The offense first, can I can I get the review
- 6:34Speaker 3: of the alcohol sales in the stadium? We can how
- 6:39Speaker 3: they go? I didn't, I mean on mine it sounded
- 6:43Speaker 3: like it went all right, but.
- 6:46Speaker 1: It went fine. It wasn't.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I don't think it was great as far as efficiency
- 6:51Speaker 2: and wines and everything. The concession lines were very, very
- 6:57Speaker 2: long the whole game. Now, I do think everybody wanted
- 6:59Speaker 2: to try if I did not get to try any
- 7:01Speaker 2: of the new food I wanted to, I did. I
- 7:04Speaker 2: guess I did get the popcorn right before the concession closed,
- 7:06Speaker 2: which I think was just our regular popcorn.
- 7:09Speaker 1: In a big old souvenir.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Bucket that was twelve bucks, but I mean it was
- 7:14Speaker 2: a lot of popcorn and fed five of us.
- 7:17Speaker 5: Did did someone puke at your feet though? Right for
- 7:20Speaker 5: the game?
- 7:20Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:20Speaker 1: So I was gonna say about the alcohol, and I don't.
- 7:22Speaker 2: This had nothing to do with the actual alcohol in
- 7:26Speaker 2: the stadium. But during the it was the worse timing
- 7:29Speaker 2: possible to national anthem started in second between session thirty
- 7:32Speaker 2: eight and thirty nine, and everybody, you know, I mean
- 7:34Speaker 2: it was ten seconds in people started using the national anthem,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and all of a sudden, you just hear the noise
- 7:39Speaker 2: of someone peaking as they were running down the stairs,
- 7:43Speaker 2: and we're just like, yep, there we go alcohol Memorial Stadium.
- 7:46Speaker 2: But I don't think that contributed to the actual in
- 7:48Speaker 2: stadium alcohol. And it was some kid that may I
- 7:51Speaker 2: mean had to be just at twenty one if he
- 7:53Speaker 2: was twenty one, so.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Feel bad for him.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I don't think it got on too many people might
- 8:00Speaker 2: hit some ladies shoe, but anyways, that was kind of
- 8:03Speaker 2: laugh I'm like, yeah, there's the alcohol. I was impressed
- 8:07Speaker 2: with the amount of options they had, like you can
- 8:10Speaker 2: get about anything any a lot of different seltzer options,
- 8:13Speaker 2: beer options.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It was good.
- 8:17Speaker 2: I thought the alcohol lines for like a couple that
- 8:20Speaker 2: I got, they were weren't too bad too on the
- 8:24Speaker 2: wait price wise.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I mean, you're gonna sell what you're gonna sell.
- 8:28Speaker 4: It's it's just beer seltzers, right, No, no mixed drinks correct, correct.
- 8:33Speaker 2: But I mean they did a decent job. It kind
- 8:35Speaker 2: of spread it out. I think the new vendor, I
- 8:36Speaker 2: mean they're gonna learn, they're gonna learn from how they
- 8:40Speaker 2: can improve things. I do think a lot of people
- 8:41Speaker 2: were trying to eat the new food because it was
- 8:45Speaker 2: all new. So where we were sitting. You had to
- 8:49Speaker 2: go a little ways to find a runza in a
- 8:51Speaker 2: Valentino's pizza because it wasn't anything close to us.
- 8:54Speaker 5: What what is the price with beer and seltzer?
- 8:57Speaker 2: I mean a lot of them were like twelve bucks,
- 8:59Speaker 2: eleven bucksh, I mean.
- 9:03Speaker 5: What it's what it is like, it's normal, I guess
- 9:07Speaker 5: for a game.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I mean, big voice. They they didn't get it. You
- 9:12Speaker 2: have sixteen ouncers feel.
- 9:15Speaker 1: A little better, I guess much, but I will say it.
- 9:19Speaker 2: It's about what I thought, like, you just you have
- 9:24Speaker 2: a couple maybe come, you know, two, three, however many
- 9:27Speaker 2: you want to have. But it keeps you just throughout
- 9:29Speaker 2: the whole game. I did not get my headache that
- 9:32Speaker 2: I usually get in the third quarter and ready to
- 9:34Speaker 2: like from drinking throughout the day.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Like it just keeps me going. And then by the
- 9:39Speaker 1: time the game was over, you know, if you want
- 9:41Speaker 1: to go have one, celebrate afterwards and you can then
- 9:43Speaker 1: go home.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Like it's not not like something people are trying to
- 9:47Speaker 2: get drunk on in the game. People are still coming
- 9:49Speaker 2: to the game drunk if they want to get drunk
- 9:51Speaker 2: before the game.
- 9:52Speaker 3: No, I get that, all right, That's all I needed
- 9:54Speaker 3: to know we can talk quarterback now, but.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I was like, glad that was that was that was important.
- 9:57Speaker 1: That was important. It was one of the on my
- 10:01Speaker 1: way home, it was one.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Of the that was one of the topics that got
- 10:04Speaker 2: brought up a couple of times on the postgame radio
- 10:06Speaker 2: show because I mean, what do you talk about a
- 10:09Speaker 2: sixty eight?
- 10:10Speaker 1: But that's what we're here for.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Uh.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Dylan Royola looked good, look smooth, looked efficient.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Probably his best game as a Husker.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Yeah, by far from a staff perspective, but even just awesome.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Mentioned efficiency.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Going back to the end of the Cincinnati game into
- 10:32Speaker 2: this game, completed twenty passes in a row, which broke
- 10:37Speaker 2: the Husker record for most consecutive completions. Guys, I'm gonna
- 10:42Speaker 2: say it, and we were talking about this during the game.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We I think we a little bit take for granted
- 10:49Speaker 2: how just smooth everything as an easy everything is for him.
- 10:56Speaker 2: He's not perfect, but as far as throwing the ball,
- 11:01Speaker 2: We've had a lot of running quarterbacks in Nebraska, obviously,
- 11:04Speaker 2: but far as throwing the ball and making simple decisions,
- 11:07Speaker 2: quick efficient decisions, it's the best we've had. And I'm
- 11:12Speaker 2: gonna say maybe even ever I mean in our lifetime.
- 11:16Speaker 3: He wasn't missing the open throws like there wasn't like
- 11:19Speaker 3: every throw is like okay, I see how you're it
- 11:23Speaker 3: might have been well covered. If he was missed. There
- 11:25Speaker 3: weren't a lot of missed ones.
- 11:27Speaker 2: But if he had the one, I remember when that
- 11:31Speaker 2: was missed. But I think people like last year even too.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I remember, but go back to some of our other quarterbacks.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Every college quarterback is going to miss. Pro quarterbacks miss
- 11:40Speaker 2: throws here or there. Dylan is very efficient, and I'm
- 11:46Speaker 2: gonna say it's Dylan, but I'm also gonna say, especially
- 11:49Speaker 2: this year, data his offense operates in a way that
- 11:54Speaker 2: allows the QB to get the ball out of his
- 11:55Speaker 2: hands and make a quick, simple read. A lot of
- 11:58Speaker 2: times he's not having to take a fib or seven
- 12:00Speaker 2: step drop and go through five different progressions.
- 12:04Speaker 1: It's pre snap. Here's what you're looking at, and here's.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Your two options or three options, and you're going one, two, three, boom.
- 12:12Speaker 2: And that allows Dylan to also look But so it's both,
- 12:16Speaker 2: it's combo of both, but Dylan's Dylan's abilities allows him
- 12:22Speaker 2: to do that because he's I mean, he's very very
- 12:25Speaker 2: strong passer, so I don't want to jump on the
- 12:31Speaker 2: hype before the horse before we've seen it against good,
- 12:34Speaker 2: good teams consistently, but so far through two games, especially
- 12:37Speaker 2: against Akron, a team that obviously is a lot less
- 12:40Speaker 2: superior than we are, he looked like a very one
- 12:46Speaker 2: of the top quarterbacks in the Big ten and I
- 12:49Speaker 2: mean opponent aside in the country right now. But I
- 12:54Speaker 2: think we got to see it again some some tougher
- 12:57Speaker 2: opponents still. But any The other thing too that we've
- 13:00Speaker 2: talked about that he is and continues to be as
- 13:03Speaker 2: a leader of the team, a voice for the team.
- 13:05Speaker 2: It's his team as far as any of the players go.
- 13:08Speaker 2: It's his team, and he continues.
- 13:10Speaker 1: To show that.
- 13:10Speaker 2: And when you play your play backs it up. That
- 13:13Speaker 2: only helps everybody trust you more and say, Nope, this
- 13:16Speaker 2: guy he's got us.
- 13:18Speaker 3: He's got us.
- 13:18Speaker 1: You see it all the time in the NFL.
- 13:20Speaker 2: You saw it last night if he stayed up and
- 13:22Speaker 2: watched the Bills and.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Ravens game with Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Like those guys their dudes and their team has their
- 13:34Speaker 2: back and everything because they can do amazing things.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I'm not calling.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Dyllan either one of those two, but that leadership abilities
- 13:41Speaker 2: is very important.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Man.
- 13:45Speaker 3: He's looking you know, he's looking nimble out there. Again.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I don't want to take too much away from this
- 13:49Speaker 3: game because just poor Akron, you know, but I agree
- 13:55Speaker 3: he looked good even I don't know at what point,
- 13:59Speaker 3: but Maddy Maddie even made a comic. She wasn't really watching.
- 14:02Speaker 3: She's like, wow, like your offense looks just really good,
- 14:06Speaker 3: Like it was just moving. We didn't punt, We didn't
- 14:11Speaker 3: punt our largest savor. Archie Wilson sat on the bench
- 14:14Speaker 3: the whole time. We still managed to win. It's amazing.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I'm surprised they're all out there quarterback when we were
- 14:19Speaker 3: getting a third quarter.
- 14:21Speaker 5: Here's here's the main thing with Ryal so far, he
- 14:24Speaker 5: has not.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Made through two games made like the awful mistake yet
- 14:29Speaker 4: that Husker fans are used to by now the last
- 14:32Speaker 4: three or four years before he came in, and even
- 14:34Speaker 4: last year he made some dumb mistakes too. But he's
- 14:37Speaker 4: just controlling the game really well. That's that's all you
- 14:40Speaker 4: can't really ask for.
- 14:41Speaker 1: All right, And that's what we want out of a quarterback.
- 14:43Speaker 3: We didn't.
- 14:43Speaker 1: We don't. We don't need someone to come in.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Now. He did throw for three hundred and some yards
- 14:47Speaker 2: this game, but consistently game after a game like you
- 14:50Speaker 2: just need somebody to manage the game and do it well.
- 14:53Speaker 3: And then it was Yeah, it was nice that you
- 14:55Speaker 3: could tell after lasking they were looking to move a
- 14:57Speaker 3: downfield just to get those reps in because they didn't
- 15:00Speaker 3: do that last game. You know, he averaged twelve yards
- 15:04Speaker 3: of completions, so you know, a couple of those were
- 15:07Speaker 3: big plays that kind of bumped those averages up, but
- 15:09Speaker 3: it was a little less of that the short yard
- 15:12Speaker 3: stuff we saw.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Last week, right, and a lot of it's not sending
- 15:16Speaker 2: guys necessarily just on a flyer out either, it's I
- 15:21Speaker 2: heard this in the way home, du You know, Dana
- 15:23Speaker 2: Holderson's offenses like to get the ball in playmaker's hands
- 15:27Speaker 2: in space. That's what he's done everywhere he's been and
- 15:31Speaker 2: it doesn't have to be a throw for fifty five
- 15:34Speaker 2: yards down the field. It can be a like we
- 15:36Speaker 2: saw early on a twelve to fourteen yard crossing rout
- 15:40Speaker 2: where you hit a guy that's opened and let him
- 15:41Speaker 2: make a play after he catches the ball. And I
- 15:45Speaker 2: know that's a big focus that Dana had after Week
- 15:48Speaker 2: one was you know, breaking tackles, and I think that's
- 15:50Speaker 2: how his brain works and how he schemes things up.
- 15:53Speaker 2: So I agree it resulted against an inferior team in
- 15:56Speaker 2: some explosive plays, but that's what I think we wanted
- 15:59Speaker 2: to see that check that box of let's have some
- 16:03Speaker 2: explosive down the field plays and didn't have to be
- 16:06Speaker 2: throwing at a fifty five year bomb and someone going
- 16:08Speaker 2: up and making it catch it.
- 16:09Speaker 1: It came in the form of the.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Offense, Yeah, we'll go for a teg.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Well I was gonna say you aren't.
- 16:19Speaker 4: You aren't when he drops back saying, oh, for the
- 16:21Speaker 4: love of God, we're passing games. No, at least you
- 16:24Speaker 4: have like confidence name he's gonna make a good decision.
- 16:28Speaker 2: A lot of times, like I said, he's not dropping
- 16:29Speaker 2: back so quick of a read. It's like, yeah, you're
- 16:32Speaker 2: not sitting there going like.
- 16:35Speaker 1: We have in the past.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I was surprised that the time drink in the field
- 16:42Speaker 3: goal formation. So you know, I get you don't want
- 16:45Speaker 3: to hurt him, but I just thought that.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Was an interesting in the goal line.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Goal line. Sorry, I feel cool.
- 16:53Speaker 2: So that was my other, I mean, next kind of thought.
- 16:56Speaker 2: We moved the offensive line a little bit, but you know,
- 16:59Speaker 2: I'd take any concern away. And the one negative thing
- 17:03Speaker 2: that happened in the game was the two inside the
- 17:06Speaker 2: five goal line stops that Acron did early on. Obviously,
- 17:09Speaker 2: they it didn't matter because you knew they probably weren't
- 17:12Speaker 2: going to go down and score. It's not like that
- 17:15Speaker 2: would have changed the game. But that's the one place
- 17:19Speaker 2: where you go, okay, like we need to score there.
- 17:23Speaker 3: The push push that didn't move the pilot at all Henry.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Against a Yeah, I do think you know, it was
- 17:32Speaker 2: effective against Cincinnati. The couple of tens rein it because
- 17:35Speaker 2: you do catch teams off guard with it if you
- 17:38Speaker 2: they don't know how to prepare for It's a lot
- 17:40Speaker 2: of bodies in one small area, and if you're not
- 17:43Speaker 2: ready for it, it's hard to stop. If you're ready
- 17:46Speaker 2: for it. Okay, now it's made on man. Now it's
- 17:49Speaker 2: now it's go time. The Eagles obviously are very very efficient.
- 17:53Speaker 5: With That's that I can say right there.
- 17:55Speaker 2: With Jalen Hurts and their offensive line right there, Man
- 17:58Speaker 2: for man probably a lot better in a lot of positions.
- 18:01Speaker 2: You hope that Nebraska is a better man for me
- 18:03Speaker 2: in there too.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I don't.
- 18:05Speaker 2: We just haven't rained enough yet to actually have all
- 18:07Speaker 2: of the what you need the scheme out of it.
- 18:10Speaker 1: But yeah, that that was the one part where like okay,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and then you know, fumbled inside.
- 18:15Speaker 3: The basically had the one he got popped it.
- 18:20Speaker 2: It was it was a very good hit. You obviously
- 18:22Speaker 2: want to protect the ball a little extra there.
- 18:23Speaker 3: You could tell he he just had come off of
- 18:26Speaker 3: a big rushing touchdown. He wanted to he wanted to
- 18:29Speaker 3: hit it again, had a nice good gap and he's like, yeah,
- 18:32Speaker 3: he went for it. He's like he got hit once.
- 18:34Speaker 3: He's like, nope, I'm going kind of and then got popped.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I mean, any any takeaway there that that's the negative takeaway.
- 18:43Speaker 2: It's probably you know, those two early possessions that even
- 18:46Speaker 2: you got a text and said we're not covering. I'm like,
- 18:49Speaker 2: I think we're still going to cover because they're not going.
- 18:52Speaker 1: To be able to score.
- 18:53Speaker 2: You could just early on it was just nope, they're
- 18:56Speaker 2: not the receivers aren't going to get open, and we'll
- 18:59Speaker 2: get the defense in the second. But that that to
- 19:03Speaker 2: me from anything on the opposite side. The offensive line again,
- 19:05Speaker 2: didn't they weren't bad. They've had some very open, solid
- 19:09Speaker 2: holes that we.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Were very open, huge that we were.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Able to then run and get to the second level.
- 19:17Speaker 2: And Emmett looked great again he did. You know, I
- 19:22Speaker 2: think he's in position to be a very very top
- 19:26Speaker 2: back in the Big Ten if if things continue, we
- 19:29Speaker 2: play accurate every week.
- 19:30Speaker 3: I'm calling it right now. He's gonna get He's getta
- 19:33Speaker 3: get cooked. But we have Big ten player that man's
- 19:35Speaker 3: gonna fall apart.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Now that being said, Makai Nelson, Mosey Mosey, Quentin Knives, Yeah, Quin,
- 19:49Speaker 2: I think Quinn looked a little slow.
- 19:51Speaker 1: He had the one big breakaway touchdown run.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but if you watched it on TV, it's like
- 19:57Speaker 3: he had ten yards between him and any other player
- 20:00Speaker 3: on the field to get like, I mean, if he
- 20:02Speaker 3: had nothing but room.
- 20:04Speaker 2: So I do Ives was a heavier back last year.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I don't think Ives is our breakaway speedback. He's gonna
- 20:12Speaker 2: be one of if we can use him properly, is
- 20:14Speaker 2: to get first downs. I mean, you know, if Emmett's
- 20:16Speaker 2: banged up or out or whatever, he's gonna be the one,
- 20:19Speaker 2: one third and two we give the ball to.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Ives to get a first down. I think he's just
- 20:22Speaker 1: a bigger back now.
- 20:24Speaker 2: They said he's slimmed down, YadA YadA, YadA that that,
- 20:27Speaker 2: but I agree, like he's not going to be a
- 20:29Speaker 2: breakaway back, but I think we can use him.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I think he's had.
- 20:33Speaker 2: A little more experience than the other two. The other
- 20:35Speaker 2: two looked great too, like they had.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Their moments usually looks like, I mean, he's just he
- 20:41Speaker 3: does not want to be tackled, and it was great,
- 20:43Speaker 3: and I'd say in general across the offense, there were
- 20:45Speaker 3: a couple of times where we were just again poor Akron,
- 20:48Speaker 3: but I mean we were breaking tackles like it.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Was, Hey, talk about this checked that we wanted to see. Yep,
- 20:56Speaker 2: like that was that was one like back up burning
- 20:58Speaker 2: backs breaking tackles like but close to place we saw it.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And again good for the offense. And in the receiving
- 21:09Speaker 1: receiving group also very good there.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Barney led us and receptions and Isaiah Hunter's coming along
- 21:18Speaker 2: as a very good first half guy.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Dame Key had three catches for thirty some yards.
- 21:26Speaker 3: I I mean, I'm this is kind of thank you
- 21:30Speaker 3: had someone's last game. But when you have seven hundred
- 21:32Speaker 3: and seven yards of offense and Dame Key supposed to
- 21:34Speaker 3: be the number one and they only had thirty five yards.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Kind of interesting.
- 21:40Speaker 2: So here's here's my take on it. And this is
- 21:42Speaker 2: the optimistic view which our receiving group right now. Think
- 21:48Speaker 2: of someone like and if you play fantasy football, I'm
- 21:52Speaker 2: going to throw out like for example, the the Bengals
- 21:55Speaker 2: where you have Jamar Chase is a clear number one,
- 21:58Speaker 2: and then you're number two T Higgins and then Tyler
- 22:02Speaker 2: Boyd number three with Barney like T Higgins, that's me
- 22:07Speaker 2: and Isaiah Hunter like it's that second guy that Okay,
- 22:10Speaker 2: you want to load up and I don't. I didn't
- 22:12Speaker 2: watch closeness no of Akron. What was just really taking
- 22:15Speaker 2: Key away or putting their best corner on him?
- 22:18Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:19Speaker 2: But you're gonna have games where your number two guy
- 22:22Speaker 2: just goes off or number three guy goes off because
- 22:25Speaker 2: they have attention to number one, which then you're doing
- 22:27Speaker 2: your job right now, I don't know if that was
- 22:29Speaker 2: the case with Akron. I know Dylan was trying to
- 22:32Speaker 2: get the ball to Dane and didn't end up finding
- 22:34Speaker 2: him in the end zone, which that throw and catch
- 22:37Speaker 2: were pretty amazing. But I'm speculating that maybe that's the case,
- 22:43Speaker 2: like of what's happening. Danes obviously the senior leader of
- 22:47Speaker 2: that group. I'm thinking that we have a receiving group
- 22:55Speaker 2: that well justin Jefferson. You know, then you take Jefferson
- 23:00Speaker 2: in a way, Okay, now you got Jordan Madison and
- 23:02Speaker 2: there's an Isaiah Hunter. I mean, the guys that have receivers,
- 23:05Speaker 2: you have a little bit of cushion behind him, and
- 23:07Speaker 2: sometimes those guys get open more because of the way
- 23:10Speaker 2: they're they're defending. I don't know if that actually happened
- 23:13Speaker 2: this game, but I'm optimistically thinking that.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I I mean, like I said, I'm not burying dan
- 23:21Speaker 3: Key yet because he had some big plays last week.
- 23:23Speaker 3: But it's just interesting. I didn't I didn't feel like
- 23:26Speaker 3: they were looking. All the open plays were to the
- 23:30Speaker 3: other guys, which you know, maybe Akron has one DV
- 23:33Speaker 3: but in every other area of the field, it's like
- 23:36Speaker 3: we got whatever we wanted. Why would the one guy
- 23:38Speaker 3: covering dan Key be able to work when he seems
- 23:41Speaker 3: to be the best receiver. That was my one concern
- 23:43Speaker 3: is like why is he not getting open against.
- 23:47Speaker 1: In man coverage? And then you have zone coverage that
- 23:49Speaker 1: you go against too.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Again, if you're if you're scouting and scheming and you're
- 23:52Speaker 2: trying to just take away best players, which any sport.
- 23:55Speaker 1: You could do.
- 23:56Speaker 2: On a defense, you can just say nope, we're not
- 23:58Speaker 2: letting so on get the ball and so and so score.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Like I don't know if they were doing that.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I didn't go back and watch to see if that's
- 24:05Speaker 2: what they were doing and crowding Dame.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Key, but.
- 24:09Speaker 2: That that that could allow some of these other I mean,
- 24:11Speaker 2: there are some times Barney's first catch there was nobody
- 24:14Speaker 2: anywhere close to him.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Another reception, Luke linden Meyer man another great Luke linn
- 24:22Speaker 3: and Myer catch where he just looks like a barreling
- 24:24Speaker 3: tight end.
- 24:25Speaker 2: How about Luke like and shout out for proposing engaged
- 24:29Speaker 2: airl friend to postgame like, look like Luke linnen Meyer
- 24:34Speaker 2: was not someone that anybody.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Was talking about, like.
- 24:39Speaker 2: We thought, probably is going to be the starting tight end,
- 24:41Speaker 2: like most likely, like didn't really know. People were excited
- 24:44Speaker 2: about Heinrich move moving over, you know worse Carter and
- 24:46Speaker 2: else is going to be. But everyone like, oh, Luke's
- 24:48Speaker 2: just there, But Luke is Luke's a dude, Like he's
- 24:51Speaker 2: a dude, your tight end, he's what he's what you
- 24:54Speaker 2: want to have.
- 24:54Speaker 3: A tight end.
- 24:55Speaker 4: He said, he's a barreling tight end and he's not
- 24:58Speaker 4: gonna burn anybody off the line.
- 25:00Speaker 3: No, I am surprised to help our pardon Nelson's falling.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I know he was injured this offseason, but the way
- 25:07Speaker 3: you rule talked about last year, even when our backups
- 25:09Speaker 3: came in, he was he had one target. I think
- 25:13Speaker 3: that was way off from j That's about it.
- 25:20Speaker 4: So didn Lenna Meyer get engaged because Mahome was tighty
- 25:24Speaker 4: and just got engaged.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Did set that up?
- 25:31Speaker 3: Must? Probably? Probably?
- 25:38Speaker 4: I think the tid end positions coming in the year,
- 25:42Speaker 4: we weren't sold on it yet, like we didn't know
- 25:44Speaker 4: what was gonna look like.
- 25:45Speaker 5: It's been very solid so far.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Lennamre like he says to me, be a dude, and
- 25:48Speaker 4: I don't think that guy can get injured at all.
- 25:50Speaker 5: He's just he just built like a like a train.
- 25:53Speaker 3: I felt like an offensive line.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah he is, but but he's a tight end, like
- 25:58Speaker 2: like you're your tight ends are not going to burn
- 26:01Speaker 2: anybody off the line. Tight Ends that can block all
- 26:04Speaker 2: especially in our offense. And I mean what he's doing
- 26:07Speaker 2: is exactly what you wanted a tight end to do.
- 26:10Speaker 2: There's been years that we don't throw it to our
- 26:12Speaker 2: tight ends and we don't even use him at all,
- 26:13Speaker 2: and Husker fans get pissed.
- 26:16Speaker 1: It's been very good. It's been a very good first
- 26:19Speaker 1: couple of weeks for lukeland Edmier, including getting engaged. So yeah,
- 26:25Speaker 1: good mention.
- 26:27Speaker 3: That I'm thinking about him making ends up. Can we
- 26:29Speaker 3: talk about the end zone pain but zero it looked
- 26:33Speaker 3: I don't know what it looks like in the stadium,
- 26:35Speaker 3: but gosh, I freaking hated it. It's like I didn't
- 26:37Speaker 3: realize we were playing in records.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Okay, I've heard, I've had I've heard people that have
- 26:44Speaker 2: opinions on it strongly one way or the other. I
- 26:47Speaker 2: had people around me that were like, this is awesome,
- 26:48Speaker 2: this is what the field should have looked like for
- 26:50Speaker 2: a long time. I've also heard this looks very like
- 26:55Speaker 2: video game esque, like.
- 26:57Speaker 3: It's not like records take away the blackout. I'm fine,
- 27:02Speaker 3: I mean, but it's just yeah, I'm a lettering, Yeah, yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 3: I'm a lettering. Yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I again, I noticed it.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I like my parents, my dad, I don't I don't
- 27:11Speaker 2: even think knew that because I mentioned it to him.
- 27:12Speaker 1: The field looks good. He goes, oh, yeah, it is different.
- 27:16Speaker 1: It's like but I think some people is.
- 27:21Speaker 2: It's not a big deal to them, But I agree
- 27:23Speaker 2: it it's very I wan't to use the word sharp,
- 27:27Speaker 2: but it's it's different. Like it's the red and the
- 27:29Speaker 2: end zone.
- 27:30Speaker 1: We haven't had that.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I don't mind the red the head zone. Just get
- 27:34Speaker 3: the black outline.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it is Rutgers. The block. The black block
- 27:38Speaker 1: outline looks like Rutgers.
- 27:41Speaker 6: Yep.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Let's see any other comments on offense t J Latif.
- 27:51Speaker 3: It was cool to see, but he's not going to
- 27:53Speaker 3: be the time he gets to play, so I didn't
- 27:55Speaker 3: get too excited about it.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Okay, I have am.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought that up. Here's what that did
- 28:02Speaker 2: for me. For god forbid, if something were to happen
- 28:08Speaker 2: to Dylan.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm knocking on wood.
- 28:10Speaker 3: As we speak, you'd still be excited.
- 28:14Speaker 2: You don't feel oh shite seasons. That's what that made
- 28:20Speaker 2: you feel as a fan and as a player for
- 28:23Speaker 2: that matter, Knowing that you have someone that can come
- 28:25Speaker 2: in and a freshman too, and maybe I mean people
- 28:29Speaker 2: might think, oh this is great, we have. You know,
- 28:32Speaker 2: once Dylan's gone, he can come in and be fine.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Well he's a freshman, Dylan's sophomore. You know, maybe if
- 28:39Speaker 2: things work out the way they do, and.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Like TJ is gonna red shirt this year, so he'll
- 28:45Speaker 3: have four more years of Eligibili's probably only going to
- 28:48Speaker 3: play two more years.
- 28:50Speaker 2: The future is unknown because Dylan at Nebraska for multiple reasons,
- 28:55Speaker 2: but mostly probably now for the NFL Draft at some point.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Potentially, you know, Dylan could be here through a senior
- 29:04Speaker 1: year the possibility, but I don't know if he will.
- 29:09Speaker 2: It makes you feel that you have someone behind and
- 29:11Speaker 2: that can come in and have their own style too
- 29:15Speaker 2: a little bit. I think that's what's also important. You know,
- 29:18Speaker 2: in the future two three years, we also have other
- 29:20Speaker 2: recruits coming in. You know, you have Dylan's brother coming in,
- 29:24Speaker 2: you have the twenty twenty seven four five star quarterback
- 29:27Speaker 2: coming in. You're you're gonna have other options too that
- 29:34Speaker 2: if the teeth is pretty damn good, it might be
- 29:36Speaker 2: kind of hard to.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Keep him here.
- 29:38Speaker 3: That's like, it was cool to see, but as yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 3: I agree with the backup, but he's he's not be a.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Starter in the breath and Dak you mentioned that you
- 29:47Speaker 2: mentioned the money thing paying him like.
- 29:50Speaker 1: On your five minute spiel.
- 29:51Speaker 2: I I I maybe, but I don't even know as
- 29:56Speaker 2: a backup, like do you how much?
- 29:58Speaker 1: How much? Do you how much he's there?
- 30:00Speaker 2: I mean it's important, don't get me wrong, but you
- 30:02Speaker 2: can't overload it if someone's gonna pay him, like I'm
- 30:05Speaker 2: just gonna throw a ruggers out there, is gonna pay
- 30:07Speaker 2: him after the Greek rifle's gone to go be their starting.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Quarterback for he's never leaving a million dollars.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Like like, he's probably we're not probably gonna match that
- 30:17Speaker 2: or go above that for a backup quarterback. So it's
- 30:19Speaker 2: probably gonna be hard to keep him around if you
- 30:22Speaker 2: know somebody wants him, you know, you hope you can't
- 30:25Speaker 2: keep a guy like that here because again it's it's
- 30:26Speaker 2: it's a feel good thing to have someone like that. Now,
- 30:30Speaker 2: we saw him against Akron, against probably a lot of
- 30:32Speaker 2: Acrons backups too, as a.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Freshman, but he just he looks like he has some talent.
- 30:37Speaker 1: He's obviously able.
- 30:38Speaker 2: To run it a little bit after the two jukes,
- 30:40Speaker 2: which is very neat. I think we saw why he's
- 30:43Speaker 2: our clear cutting number two, when everybody kind of thought
- 30:46Speaker 2: it was gonna be Jalen Grahamstead again that was almost
- 30:50Speaker 2: a given, and then the depth card came out. We're like, oh,
- 30:53Speaker 2: and now you see why.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I think it's important.
- 30:55Speaker 2: I think it's important for the face, but it's important
- 30:57Speaker 2: for the players everybody to see you have a guy
- 31:00Speaker 2: that can come in. You know you're not gonna go,
- 31:01Speaker 2: oh shit, what's gonna happen? So that that was I
- 31:05Speaker 2: think that's actually a very big takeaway from the game.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Even throwing the ball to anyway six per seven, right,
- 31:11Speaker 2: it didn't look like he came in and was scared.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Shit.
- 31:15Speaker 1: That's which shouldn't be because we were up by fifty.
- 31:18Speaker 5: But you're ready.
- 31:21Speaker 4: And I say this in the postgame pod, he already
- 31:24Speaker 4: has more yards than iowas quarterback through two games, which wild.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Poor that poor Granowski, poor guy.
- 31:37Speaker 3: I just don't get it. He's capable. I don't I
- 31:41Speaker 3: don't want to talk too much ih Iowa State games,
- 31:43Speaker 3: but it's like he's hitting his receivers like he's not.
- 31:47Speaker 3: There are several drops, but he just was never I
- 31:50Speaker 3: don't know. It's just like they ran it like twelve
- 31:53Speaker 3: times in a fourteen play drive for like eight minutes,
- 31:57Speaker 3: and then they came up with three points. I was like,
- 31:59Speaker 3: this is just the most Iowa of Iowa to have
- 32:04Speaker 3: a quarterback who can hit your receivers. But you're gonna
- 32:06Speaker 3: run it twelve out of fourteen times over an eight
- 32:08Speaker 3: minute drive and only score three points. It's wild.
- 32:11Speaker 4: You definitely don't want La Tia to go there because
- 32:13Speaker 4: they'll find a way to coach a good quarterback play
- 32:15Speaker 4: out of anybody.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah, speaking of catches and drops, as I always stay
- 32:23Speaker 2: out of recover.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Right there after.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Dropped a few passes, but I want to get shout
- 32:27Speaker 2: out to our one handed catches in the first quarter.
- 32:29Speaker 2: We had like from the beginning go from three different players.
- 32:33Speaker 3: It was like, oh, like the first three of the
- 32:35Speaker 3: first five catches were one headed. Is like, oh my gosh.
- 32:40Speaker 3: It was at that point, I still having fun, even
- 32:42Speaker 3: though I was a little word. We were only nine
- 32:45Speaker 3: zero after the first half, the first quarter, first quarter,
- 32:52Speaker 3: but yeah, it was it was. It was fun until
- 32:55Speaker 3: it wasn't until you just felt bad and guilty for
- 32:57Speaker 3: having fun at some little expense. It kind of felt
- 32:59Speaker 3: like bowl game at a certain point. It's just like
- 33:01Speaker 3: I don't.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I'll take that week after week. I'll get used to
- 33:05Speaker 1: that feeling.
- 33:07Speaker 4: I was wrong in the in the post game pod.
- 33:10Speaker 4: You guys did not Nebraska did not start out quick.
- 33:13Speaker 4: How concerning is that not?
- 33:15Speaker 3: We had two ends zone we started off quick.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Besides not finishing those two drives.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, we could have had twenty three points
- 33:24Speaker 3: in the first quarter, but we had the fumble at
- 33:26Speaker 3: the two and.
- 33:27Speaker 2: The everybody's saying it could have been an eighty point game.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I mean, we scored every possession, so like like Archie
- 33:36Speaker 2: didn't kick go special teams here for a quick bit.
- 33:41Speaker 1: His parents were there that.
- 33:43Speaker 2: I heard on postgame, and then they said that, you know,
- 33:48Speaker 2: they probably felt bad for Archie's parents being there, so
- 33:50Speaker 2: they had to go interviewer interview his mom in the
- 33:52Speaker 2: fourth quarter because he didn't wasn't see in the field
- 33:55Speaker 2: and there was a big story that you know, they
- 33:56Speaker 2: wanted to show on him and he didn't even play.
- 33:59Speaker 4: I heard the ovation for him though, when they should
- 34:01Speaker 4: have jump a try was loud.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean definitely was.
- 34:06Speaker 5: Like he's the that people either in a.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Favorite like people love him, we don't like we know
- 34:10Speaker 2: that and you didn't see him play.
- 34:12Speaker 1: But it's obviously a good thing. The kicking was.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Good again, you know, made one early and you know
- 34:21Speaker 2: they we just like we don't, we don't mess up.
- 34:23Speaker 1: And then blocking a field goal, great, h.
- 34:27Speaker 3: They missed one that they should probably missed a couple
- 34:31Speaker 3: of times.
- 34:32Speaker 1: That was when I felt that I'm like, okay, they're
- 34:34Speaker 1: gonna get some points. Do Nope.
- 34:37Speaker 2: And then and then when the blocks one happened, I'm like, guys,
- 34:39Speaker 2: watch just get blocked. You know they they could, they
- 34:41Speaker 2: should easily get three points. And then sure enough we
- 34:43Speaker 2: helped the middle and just stuff it.
- 34:46Speaker 5: And it wasn't on the block. It wasn't even like close.
- 34:49Speaker 5: There was like five guys already block.
- 34:52Speaker 1: No, that's good.
- 34:53Speaker 2: And again talk speaking to coach Eckler, and you know,
- 34:55Speaker 2: putting blind faith into a guy that no special teams.
- 34:59Speaker 2: He he's clearly producing early on here with our special
- 35:05Speaker 2: team's unit, our potner turn game, Corey Barney had the
- 35:08Speaker 2: most potter turn yards.
- 35:10Speaker 1: In that one game that we had all of last year.
- 35:12Speaker 5: I mean.
- 35:14Speaker 3: We had here.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Here's the thing with Barney, we obviously were he was
- 35:19Speaker 2: catching him one. That's the most important thing. So we
- 35:22Speaker 2: can't can't take that for granted, because we've seen the
- 35:24Speaker 2: opposite of that. But two, somehow, some way, whether it's
- 35:28Speaker 2: a personnel change, a scheme thing, I don't know. He
- 35:31Speaker 2: actually what he caught the ball, had a room to
- 35:33Speaker 2: do something with. And whether blocking gunners is very difficult
- 35:38Speaker 2: on the outside, I get that, and maybe we were
- 35:41Speaker 2: just manned for man that much better than accurate and
- 35:43Speaker 2: they couldn't even get off the line. But when he
- 35:46Speaker 2: caught the ball, it was like Holy Field and could
- 35:50Speaker 2: go make hopefully a couple guys miss Now. I heard
- 35:53Speaker 2: some people say they they hope he'd house one, and
- 35:57Speaker 2: he does, Barney, if he had any concern them.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Right now, he goes down very easily.
- 36:00Speaker 2: He's not a very big dude, so if you do
- 36:02Speaker 2: get a hand on his body, he goes down pretty easily.
- 36:06Speaker 2: I think that's one thing that Dana is gonna want
- 36:09Speaker 2: him to get better at. Dana and Eckler so like.
- 36:14Speaker 2: But the power turn game was again we we had
- 36:18Speaker 2: yardage and you can't don't take that for granted, like
- 36:22Speaker 2: thirty twenty thirty, even fifteen yards on a Potter turn,
- 36:26Speaker 2: it's a first down on an offensive possession that in
- 36:28Speaker 2: the past when we all we got to worry about
- 36:30Speaker 2: freaking catching the ball and call him fair catch is probably.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Pre rule because Rule likes to return stuff like that.
- 36:37Speaker 2: That that matters, that very much matters in the game.
- 36:41Speaker 2: And I was the Actorne punter was pretty damn good.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I mean, he hit some bombs. He had the one
- 36:44Speaker 1: shank and I didn't go anywhere. But we've all been there.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Yeah, he had two bad punts back to back.
- 36:52Speaker 1: It was just like, oh, gosh, back when he's fuffing
- 36:55Speaker 1: so much.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I mean, I know that's all he Yeah, all these
- 37:00Speaker 2: things you're saying, poor Akron, think about how many times
- 37:02Speaker 2: team said that about us.
- 37:06Speaker 3: This is what is this how other teams felt watching us, Like, gosh, I.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Almost guarantee you like poor Nebraska, they can't even you
- 37:13Speaker 2: remember I was a Caleb lightboard that had the pup
- 37:15Speaker 2: go negative like three yards a negative punt.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Yep. It's crazy.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it reminds me if you remember when game day
- 37:28Speaker 4: came here, you know, High State just blew the fucking door,
- 37:31Speaker 4: freaking doors off of Nebraska. Yeah, that that was probably
- 37:35Speaker 4: when I'm there, like poor Nebraska, but but it is poor,
- 37:39Speaker 4: like they can't do anything in there. I know especially
- 37:44Speaker 4: they can't do anything special teams, defense, offense, nothing, nothing's
- 37:48Speaker 4: going well for them.
- 37:50Speaker 5: I mean, whene, let's set up under here, winning the
- 37:53Speaker 5: against for the first.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Point hopefully next week. I don't know who they played
- 37:58Speaker 1: next week.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Let's see.
- 38:02Speaker 2: I I don't.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Here's what I wanted to do going into today.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I did not want to come in and say, afterd sucks,
- 38:10Speaker 2: there's nothing to get out of this game because we've
- 38:13Speaker 2: played bad teams. But doing it in the way that
- 38:16Speaker 2: we did it, like no matter who it is, beating
- 38:18Speaker 2: somebody sixty eight to nothing like that's impressive. Minnesota was
- 38:22Speaker 2: up fifty nine and nothing at half against Northwestern State.
- 38:26Speaker 1: I believe, and I mean that.
- 38:28Speaker 2: In the tailgate, I was like showing people, oh my god,
- 38:30Speaker 2: look at this score at halftime. I don't care who
- 38:33Speaker 2: you're playing. Scoring fifty nine points and a half, it's
- 38:37Speaker 2: impressive like it is. And same thing like winning sixty
- 38:42Speaker 2: eight nothing, it's impressive. We know who they play next week,
- 38:48Speaker 2: youy be hopefully we'll score, but there's no guarantees. Defense,
- 38:54Speaker 2: just move on there.
- 38:56Speaker 3: It's a shutout.
- 38:58Speaker 1: It's a shutout again. That's a hard to do as well.
- 39:02Speaker 1: John Butler I don't think we had to show a
- 39:05Speaker 1: whole lot early on.
- 39:08Speaker 2: You know I noticed, which is this is perfectly fine.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Just a lot of press coverage on the outside, and
- 39:15Speaker 2: that's man for man, beat you up. And then we
- 39:17Speaker 2: don't have to show anything as far as what we
- 39:19Speaker 2: actually might do against good teams. But the inside guys
- 39:22Speaker 2: take care of themselves. Outside guys, take care of yourselves
- 39:25Speaker 2: and stop them. And they did a good job there.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Ben Finlay, their quarterback.
- 39:30Speaker 5: Like.
- 39:33Speaker 2: He's not he's not great, but he's not horrible, like
- 39:36Speaker 2: he'd fit and fine in Iowa's offense.
- 39:38Speaker 5: I mean, you know, a superstar.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I thought he made a couple of decent throws and
- 39:46Speaker 1: the receivers didn't.
- 39:46Speaker 2: They should have had a touchdown on a drop pass
- 39:49Speaker 2: I think in the third quarter, maybe before kicking one
- 39:51Speaker 2: of those field goals, like he if their offensive line
- 39:54Speaker 2: is the man for man was not good enough for
- 39:57Speaker 2: our defensive line, which also is not a strength.
- 39:59Speaker 1: So again, check a box or even the blind look
- 40:04Speaker 1: a lot better.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Now.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I will say there were a couple of plays that
- 40:07Speaker 1: there were still holes.
- 40:08Speaker 3: There were still quite a few big holes.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Yes for the running back, which yes, And then you know,
- 40:15Speaker 2: if you want to talk about a concern there maybe
- 40:17Speaker 2: and and and I think that you know, are we
- 40:22Speaker 2: still we tackled well, none of that, even if they
- 40:24Speaker 2: got a first down or two. I just never felt like, oh, boy,
- 40:27Speaker 2: like they're going to go on a drive. Like they're
- 40:29Speaker 2: not scoring.
- 40:30Speaker 1: They can't.
- 40:30Speaker 2: They're not good enough to put twelve plays together and
- 40:33Speaker 2: go down to score. There's there's no way it's happening.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Yeah. I had a similar feeling of physically we were
- 40:40Speaker 3: just better than them. There were still times where our
- 40:43Speaker 3: defensive there were still quite a few big holes that
- 40:48Speaker 3: were there. Luckily, our secondary was faster than their their people,
- 40:53Speaker 3: they were able to close out pretty quick. But I
- 40:57Speaker 3: wrote down, Michigan will have like one hundred and fifty
- 41:01Speaker 3: plus yards on us, even though they got walked by Oklahoma,
- 41:04Speaker 3: because I still it still was kind of concerning and
- 41:10Speaker 3: in regards because you know, basically the whole second half
- 41:13Speaker 3: we had our second and third stringers. In My takeaway
- 41:16Speaker 3: was they're very athletic, but boy, you can tell they're
- 41:19Speaker 3: young because they just looked tiny out there. Wow, you
- 41:23Speaker 3: guys look young and skinny and have not developed physically.
- 41:26Speaker 3: So that's I'm sure that's all the time, Like defensive
- 41:30Speaker 3: players just take longer to pop on the field. There
- 41:33Speaker 3: aren't a ton of true freshman cornerbacks out there. But yeah,
- 41:38Speaker 3: but it was again there was a shutout. Poor Akron.
- 41:42Speaker 3: We were just better than Akron. They couldn't do anything
- 41:47Speaker 3: better Like next week Fellas.
- 41:50Speaker 4: It's it's great, though, to get those young players out
- 41:53Speaker 4: there playing because more likely you're gonna lose somebody on defense. See,
- 41:58Speaker 4: you want those guys, get them playing time these games.
- 42:00Speaker 4: That's that's what these games are basically for. It's just
- 42:04Speaker 4: you're young, get your stories out as quick as possible
- 42:08Speaker 4: and get these young playing time.
- 42:10Speaker 3: It was hurt. It was good to hear Willis mcgahey
- 42:12Speaker 3: the fourth and you.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Know what he was early, very early.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Yeah, whether that's what their plan is moving forward, Cad
- 42:22Speaker 2: pet Shock if you heard that name, defensive lineman early
- 42:26Speaker 2: on too, a.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Couple of.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Cater's early in tackler with two tackles for a lots.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Like guys guys like that.
- 42:34Speaker 2: I don't know, you don't know how that's going to
- 42:36Speaker 2: fit in once we get into Big ten play, but
- 42:40Speaker 2: they're getting the minute and experience right now.
- 42:42Speaker 1: And that's what you said that that's what you want
- 42:44Speaker 1: out of these games. You know, you got to feel
- 42:47Speaker 1: good about that.
- 42:50Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, you get your backup could come in
- 42:53Speaker 2: and they could go down and score a couple of times,
- 42:54Speaker 2: and then you're going, oh gosh, like I hope nobody
- 42:57Speaker 2: gets hurt.
- 42:58Speaker 1: It didn't happen.
- 42:59Speaker 3: Uh.
- 43:00Speaker 2: No, Acroage backups are probably in two so as expected,
- 43:03Speaker 2: your backups are probably better than Acorage backups.
- 43:06Speaker 3: So it did take a while for us to record
- 43:08Speaker 3: a sack again. Well not again, it was we didn't
- 43:11Speaker 3: quarter sack last week, so it was still one of
- 43:13Speaker 3: those like Okay, granted they only threw a twenty one times,
- 43:17Speaker 3: so I understand. I understand why we might not record
- 43:22Speaker 3: a sack because they weren't the quarterback within the pocket
- 43:24Speaker 3: that long most as passes were trying to be pretty quick,
- 43:27Speaker 3: or he was getting rid of the ball. But and
- 43:31Speaker 3: we lost turnover battle, and we lost a turnover battle.
- 43:37Speaker 4: Uh, I'm talking so many negatives on a sixty eight
- 43:39Speaker 4: nothing game.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Because we killed them sixty eight nothing. But it's because
- 43:46Speaker 3: Acron was really bad and there were still things I
- 43:49Speaker 3: wanted to see against a bad team that I didn't see,
- 43:51Speaker 3: and Acron was really bad. I was like, you'd you'd
- 43:56Speaker 3: hope to get at least, you know, I don't know
- 43:59Speaker 3: how I have howing sacks? Do we have one? Yes?
- 44:04Speaker 3: We had both two sacks. We had a shoutout sixty
- 44:10Speaker 3: eight to nothing.
- 44:11Speaker 2: I'm a little bit torn on that because it's like,
- 44:13Speaker 2: I don't know, can you can you have it all?
- 44:15Speaker 1: Like can you have a little bit be perfect? As
- 44:19Speaker 1: far as how the game went, it's again the biggest
- 44:25Speaker 1: win we've had against anybody.
- 44:26Speaker 3: And I agree, But what my concern is when going
- 44:29Speaker 3: into the game, I wanted to see it was our
- 44:30Speaker 3: defensive line perform better against a bad opponent, which they did.
- 44:36Speaker 3: They did, but but you still saw a lot of
- 44:38Speaker 3: the same issues against Cincinnati. Like I was like, the
- 44:41Speaker 3: holes were there. We just were fast enough that our
- 44:44Speaker 3: secondary could close in on their guys because they're slow.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Now, I will say this when we're going to see
- 44:50Speaker 2: it with our defensive line and we get gives more teams.
- 44:54Speaker 2: We thought with the way that we were hearing John
- 44:57Speaker 2: Butler and how he was going to do things about
- 44:59Speaker 2: being a little more aggress to flying around. We've seen
- 45:02Speaker 2: now the side not just in our backup of our starters,
- 45:05Speaker 2: maybe not being as big are we don't have a
- 45:07Speaker 2: national tie. Like we kind of said, it might be
- 45:10Speaker 2: some boom or bust. Now we haven't seen the boom yet,
- 45:12Speaker 2: and I also don't know you want to show a
- 45:14Speaker 2: whole lot of boom on how you're going to deliver
- 45:17Speaker 2: the bloitz packages, the schematic stuff. You don't want to
- 45:21Speaker 2: show that against Acorn either. So part of my the
- 45:25Speaker 2: counter to that is, yeah, our defensive line might they
- 45:27Speaker 2: just we might just have to struggle and they might
- 45:30Speaker 2: give up an occasional nine yard run. But if we
- 45:32Speaker 2: can counter that with a five yard sack or a
- 45:34Speaker 2: six yard sack on a third and five, it's okay.
- 45:40Speaker 1: I don't know that we will.
- 45:41Speaker 2: We necessarily wanted to show how we were going to
- 45:42Speaker 2: do that against well this week or next week. We
- 45:46Speaker 2: didn't see it against Cincinnati. You know, you hope that
- 45:51Speaker 2: that's coming, that's what you can hope. Now maybe maybe
- 45:54Speaker 2: it's not, and that that could be very concerning moving forward.
- 45:57Speaker 2: But that that's my that's the positive spin on the
- 46:01Speaker 2: defensive line in a game like this that you know what, yeah,
- 46:03Speaker 2: maybe maybe maybe they just.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Are gonna struggle.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Still a little bit from from a size and physicality
- 46:09Speaker 2: standpoint and the three three five. It's not always a
- 46:11Speaker 2: good thing, but if we can make up for it
- 46:13Speaker 2: and get the boom side out of it, then it'll
- 46:15Speaker 2: be all right.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll see. Yeah, I agree. They said, Yes, you're right,
- 46:23Speaker 3: I'm probably being too critical against.
- 46:26Speaker 1: For this, but I look at Roles just getting flipped
- 46:30Speaker 1: here on the podcast.
- 46:32Speaker 3: You're right, look at the little the strout Tom over there.
- 46:37Speaker 3: Let's see what my other my only other note we
- 46:39Speaker 3: haven't talked about was we did have six penalties, which
- 46:46Speaker 3: you know, it didn't hurt us this game, and obviously
- 46:48Speaker 3: we had a lot of backups, and so I'm not
- 46:49Speaker 3: going to be too critical of it, but it was
- 46:51Speaker 3: I was like, okay, once we got our once we
- 46:53Speaker 3: got our fifth and sixth, I was like, it was noticeable,
- 46:56Speaker 3: like another fall start that brought back a big play
- 47:00Speaker 3: again backups. So I was too shaken by it.
- 47:03Speaker 2: But I mean a lot of that we used to
- 47:07Speaker 2: do grades on this podcast a couple of years ago.
- 47:09Speaker 2: A lot of the grades that you see from some
- 47:11Speaker 2: of the major.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Newswriters. You know, you're seeing a lot.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Of a's, a lot of a's right now, and we
- 47:20Speaker 2: have not had that in a long time, even in wins.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Obviously you're not gonna get a ten out of ten
- 47:27Speaker 2: perfect score on every.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Part of the game.
- 47:30Speaker 2: But but again, you saw what you wanted to see
- 47:33Speaker 2: against Acker and Houston Christian.
- 47:36Speaker 1: This week you're gonna see probably a lot of the
- 47:39Speaker 1: same thing.
- 47:39Speaker 2: They lost their game this week to Southern Illinois or
- 47:44Speaker 2: someone like that, I don't know, twenty to ten.
- 47:46Speaker 1: They played a better team.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Another good opportunity, I think to see a game like
- 47:53Speaker 2: that on Saturday the same time naturally, and obviously I
- 48:00Speaker 2: want to overlook anybody, but you can, you can a
- 48:04Speaker 2: little bit. The Michigan game is the next big game,
- 48:08Speaker 2: and I think that's that was also on the post
- 48:12Speaker 2: game calls. Another big topic of conversation was Michigan, Michigan, Michigan.
- 48:19Speaker 2: It is. It's like, now you're a little bit in
- 48:21Speaker 2: preseason mode and your first game agains now Michigan and
- 48:24Speaker 2: Michigan got beat by Oklahoma. I was really hoping, you know,
- 48:28Speaker 2: pre going into the day that because Dak was going
- 48:31Speaker 2: to watch all that game and give us maybe some
- 48:33Speaker 2: insight on what Michigan had, what they looked like. But
- 48:36Speaker 2: Dak's gonna have no better take on it than we
- 48:38Speaker 2: do because he didn't. I know, he's gonna say Bryce
- 48:41Speaker 2: Underwood sucks. Well, yeah, look at the stats. I don't know,
- 48:43Speaker 2: because I didn't watch the game. I don't have I
- 48:46Speaker 2: don't have a clue on how that game went besides
- 48:50Speaker 2: the final score. But I think there's holes, like there's
- 48:54Speaker 2: holes to exploit against the Wolverines. My head's kind of
- 49:00Speaker 2: shifting towards that. I you know, I joking with last
- 49:02Speaker 2: week's unver three and O. I you know, we are
- 49:03Speaker 2: three and oh and we're probably gonna have potential to
- 49:07Speaker 2: be favored in that game in week four.
- 49:11Speaker 3: I saw up the ESPN projections. It's it's large largest
- 49:18Speaker 3: percentage of nine wins. So still not quite ten.
- 49:23Speaker 4: But I mean, you're walking on this game, feel a
- 49:28Speaker 4: lot better about that Michigan game, or walking on this week.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Then you work them out of Cincinnati game, you thought,
- 49:33Speaker 4: oh boy, they're gonna run all over us. Well, like
- 49:35Speaker 4: you said, I was gonna say, Bryce Underwood is not
- 49:37Speaker 4: a good quarterback. I mean we figured that out pretty quick.
- 49:43Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say I got very well throw one games.
- 49:48Speaker 5: He's pretty bad. He can't throw the ball.
- 49:51Speaker 1: The fact that he did it against Oklahoma on a
- 49:53Speaker 1: team that you couldn't name one player on their defense.
- 49:55Speaker 1: I I I don't know.
- 49:58Speaker 3: I just I.
- 50:00Speaker 1: The Big Ten quarterbacks either you're not you're not going
- 50:04Speaker 1: to see.
- 50:05Speaker 4: And make Maybe they won't even need to use them
- 50:08Speaker 4: against Nebraska, like who knows, they might just run it
- 50:10Speaker 4: all over them.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Yeah, he just don't. You don't know what it's.
- 50:16Speaker 2: It's still gonna be Big ten football, Like I don't
- 50:18Speaker 2: just pay either team blowing either team out like in
- 50:20Speaker 2: that game.
- 50:21Speaker 1: It's it's gonna be a grinders.
- 50:24Speaker 3: Michigan had one hundred and forty six yards on the
- 50:26Speaker 3: ground against Oklahoma. I suspect it'll be higher than that
- 50:31Speaker 3: against Nebraska.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I I can't read into that. I
- 50:36Speaker 1: did not watch it. I don't know.
- 50:37Speaker 2: I I hope you know what you do, You're do
- 50:41Speaker 2: you feel better? Just generally speaking, you feel better about
- 50:48Speaker 2: that game after this week?
- 50:50Speaker 1: But you know what part of me, part of me,
- 50:52Speaker 1: I don't. I don't want to feel better. I want
- 50:53Speaker 1: the guys to be like I hope, Yeah.
- 50:55Speaker 3: I said, I don't feel better. I feel I feel
- 50:58Speaker 3: worse because now they've gotten there, you know they got
- 51:01Speaker 3: they Yep, right now they're they're on alert.
- 51:04Speaker 2: It's like, okay, now they're now they're on improved mode,
- 51:07Speaker 2: and and now we feel great about where we're at.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Like I said that.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Cincinnati game last week, what is about the perfect the
- 51:15Speaker 2: best way to win? It really was because it highlighted
- 51:19Speaker 2: he still won, but it highlighted everywhere where we need
- 51:23Speaker 2: to get better at a game like this, Like what
- 51:27Speaker 2: do you take Like we we broke down every negative
- 51:30Speaker 2: thing you possibly could find in this podcast, and there's
- 51:33Speaker 2: not that much. Like it's hard, it's hard to find
- 51:36Speaker 2: stuff from these games. So that's the balance of playing
- 51:39Speaker 2: Akron Ver Cincinnati and we you know, in a non
- 51:42Speaker 2: conference game. Same thing with Oak Michigan. Like you said, Austin,
- 51:47Speaker 2: they learned probably a lot of where their weaknesses are at.
- 51:51Speaker 2: So they're gonna have time to also wrap that up.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Now here's the interesting thing that I saw And I
- 51:56Speaker 2: didn't know this either, Trummore head.
- 51:59Speaker 1: Coach Michigan's suspended.
- 52:03Speaker 2: For these next two games they play, and nobody I
- 52:07Speaker 2: think New Mexico State or someone like that next week.
- 52:11Speaker 3: I did not know that.
- 52:14Speaker 2: He can't even like be in the facilities, have contact
- 52:16Speaker 2: with the team. It's not like he suspended from just
- 52:21Speaker 2: the game part, like he can't really coach. And that's
- 52:25Speaker 2: that's the other wrinkle to throw into all this. Now,
- 52:27Speaker 2: we could probably spend it and they get a really
- 52:28Speaker 2: really good thing. But it is when you when you're
- 52:31Speaker 2: coming off a loss like that, the first thing you
- 52:33Speaker 2: want to do as a head coach is find the
- 52:35Speaker 2: solution and figure out how to do that.
- 52:36Speaker 5: Well, he's not gonna be.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Able to do that in the traditional way that you
- 52:39Speaker 1: think it's going to be.
- 52:40Speaker 2: His assistant coach is taking over that responsibility and then
- 52:45Speaker 2: having to coach two games doing that without their head guys.
- 52:50Speaker 1: So it's it's a little bit like it'll be interesting
- 52:53Speaker 1: to see how that goes. I don't know, I don't
- 52:56Speaker 1: know how that goes.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Yeah, my opinion on football coach had ball coaches as fine,
- 53:03Speaker 3: and it.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Might not even be like how our games go when
- 53:06Speaker 2: he comes back, depending on how things go.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Like both ways, right, you win, you beat Nebraska on
- 53:12Speaker 1: the road.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Now you look like, oh shit, we don't need like
- 53:16Speaker 2: our assistant coaches did their job, you know you then
- 53:19Speaker 2: or you do come back and you lose and you
- 53:21Speaker 2: come back in you go crap, like we got a
- 53:23Speaker 2: lot of work to do. I didn't do a good
- 53:25Speaker 2: job of building to this point. So it's not really
- 53:26Speaker 2: a good situation for sure. How more that he's hopping
- 53:29Speaker 2: into now. But that's not our problem to figure out
- 53:32Speaker 2: that that's their problem.
- 53:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't. I did not know that part.
- 53:37Speaker 4: That's that makes your game planning a little tougher if
- 53:40Speaker 4: you're head coach can't even come in and say what
- 53:42Speaker 4: do you want to fix?
- 53:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 53:45Speaker 5: So and he's back from the brass game, right, No, No,
- 53:49Speaker 5: he's not.
- 53:50Speaker 4: What I just said, well news to me, I get
- 53:55Speaker 4: I all right, So yeah, I don't know what what
- 54:00Speaker 4: you take away from that.
- 54:02Speaker 5: I don't.
- 54:04Speaker 4: I obviously he's gonna have some say like he's gonna
- 54:06Speaker 4: talk to have them do some stuff, but he's not.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the role is very different, right, You're finding the
- 54:14Speaker 2: work around that you can, but it's gonna be very
- 54:17Speaker 2: different than how they have to approach it. So all right,
- 54:23Speaker 2: anything else before we.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Volleyball? Great job the caravan.
- 54:30Speaker 3: Twice mm hmmm yeah, now, yeah, it was it was fun.
- 54:38Speaker 3: It was fun until it fill.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Mean about about Dana ripping is in Yep, that's my
- 54:47Speaker 1: that's my boy. That made it around social media quite
- 54:51Speaker 1: a bit.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Hopefully we'll have the same result next week.
- 54:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I get I'm not.
- 54:59Speaker 2: There's not pretty pretty predictable on on what could happen
- 55:04Speaker 2: that game. I think you know you're we can make
- 55:06Speaker 2: our checklist to get on Thursday and what we want
- 55:08Speaker 2: to see coming out of that game, maybe getting an interview.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Or something on as well. So good week, we'll take it.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Great blowout win, impressive.
- 55:19Speaker 4: We'll move on Reno now deveryone's waiting for he got
- 55:24Speaker 4: to that Vikings or Bears don't care.
- 55:27Speaker 1: All right, I'm taking the Bears.
- 55:32Speaker 3: I'll take Viking and take us. You see, hey, you.
- 55:35Speaker 1: See the Lions offense last night?
- 55:37Speaker 5: Awful?
- 55:38Speaker 1: Ben Johnson, see the reason that.
- 55:41Speaker 5: That's the problem. I'm very nervous about tonight.
- 55:44Speaker 1: The Bears just come out and just light up the
- 55:45Speaker 1: Vikings d.
- 55:49Speaker 5: We'll talk about that Thursday, all right.
- 55:53Speaker 7: Go GRADIV, go big grad schools.
- 56:35Speaker 6: At Trick
- 57:02Speaker 2: BA
