- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listenings KFI AM six forty the bill handles show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Fright this song.
- 0:10Speaker 1: AFI AM six forty bill handle here. It is a
- 0:14Speaker 1: Wednesday morning, December twenty four. It is air of Christmas,
- 0:20Speaker 1: the night before Christmas, the day of the night. What
- 0:24Speaker 1: if they called the entire day Christmas Eve when Christmas
- 0:30Speaker 1: Eve is really tonight.
- 0:32Speaker 2: No, it's all day Eve.
- 0:35Speaker 3: It's not even it's likes the.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Way way wait, way, Eve has always related to evening.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Am I missing something? It's not Christmas Eve? Like in
- 0:47Speaker 4: your house? Right the Eves hang out. Maybe it is,
- 0:51Speaker 4: Maybe it's Christmas Eve's.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I think I think it means that it's come to
- 0:56Speaker 3: mean the whole day before, even though Eve does sort
- 0:59Speaker 3: of mean evening.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You are correct, Thank you very much.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I love the if you looks. Look at that, Look
- 1:06Speaker 3: at that proud smile. Yes, I am correct, Thank you
- 1:09Speaker 3: damn straight.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Okay, Moving into something that is not as much fun,
- 1:13Speaker 1: and that is the weather that has taken southern California
- 1:18Speaker 1: by storm.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Huh you get that again?
- 1:22Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:22Speaker 2: Thank you very strong. I know all right.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Well I'm gonna do is throw it to a heather
- 1:26Speaker 1: and to Will, because they are much more on top
- 1:29Speaker 1: of that.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And I'm gonna let the two of you fight it out.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Enjoy reporting, all right. Will and I used to work
- 1:36Speaker 2: together back in the.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Days, So yeah, Will and I got it. So here's
- 1:41Speaker 3: what we know so far. National Weather Service says this
- 1:45Speaker 3: is the strongest Christmas storm in years. They're expecting four
- 1:50Speaker 3: to seven or eight inches of rain falling in a
- 1:53Speaker 3: very short amount of time. There are two stormfronts that
- 1:55Speaker 3: are moving in. One that we're experiencing right now. That's
- 1:58Speaker 3: gonna last through most of the day today, supposed to
- 2:01Speaker 3: taper off just a little bit this evening. We'll have
- 2:03Speaker 3: a little bit of less lessened rain. It's not going
- 2:06Speaker 3: to entirely stop, but lessened rain until tomorrow morning, and
- 2:10Speaker 3: then it is going to pick up again and we'll
- 2:12Speaker 3: see another major storm front roll through. The major areas
- 2:16Speaker 3: of concern are going to be in the burn areas.
- 2:19Speaker 3: They are worried about flooding there, in particular the Palisades
- 2:22Speaker 3: the Eton Fire area. A floodwatch has been issued in
- 2:27Speaker 3: several counties, La County, Ventura, Riverside, San ber Doondino and
- 2:30Speaker 3: Orange Counties. The major concerns here are flooding, mud slides
- 2:35Speaker 3: and staying off the roads right will you know.
- 2:38Speaker 6: It's mostly the San Fernando Valley that's underwater right now.
- 2:41Speaker 6: As far as the big crashes and closures that fives
- 2:44Speaker 6: that alays, it's always this way right south of the
- 2:47Speaker 6: one seventy it floods underneath those overpasses and you see
- 2:50Speaker 6: the helicopter shots every storm where all the cars get
- 2:54Speaker 6: stuck in the water.
- 2:55Speaker 2: There don't be that person.
- 2:56Speaker 6: Don't get on the five in sun Valley because we're
- 2:58Speaker 6: trying to head north through sun Valley because that's where
- 3:00Speaker 6: the big mess is.
- 3:02Speaker 2: The five southbound right before the one to eighteen we
- 3:04Speaker 2: had a.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Full freeway closure as well as on the northbound side
- 3:07Speaker 6: that was just a crash. To ten eastbound in Sunland,
- 3:10Speaker 6: big old Jackknife, big rig. These big rigs cannot stop
- 3:13Speaker 6: on a dime if you cut them off. And on
- 3:15Speaker 6: the way into work, I hydroplane like five times and
- 3:18Speaker 6: I was going really slow.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So yeah, it's a mess out there, to put it nicely.
- 3:23Speaker 3: And there are evacuation warnings in place, and we want
- 3:27Speaker 3: to remind everybody if you get an alert, if you
- 3:30Speaker 3: hear an evacuation warning for the area that you live in.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Please take it seriously. They don't just issue those for fun.
- 3:38Speaker 3: It is a serious situation, so please heed the warnings
- 3:41Speaker 3: for the evacuation areas. Mud slides and flooding can be
- 3:45Speaker 3: incredibly dangerous. So Bill handle anything you like.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it gives us a good idea.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I'm in Orange County today at my home studio and
- 3:55Speaker 1: will or Heather it does not.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I have not gotten the daily yet, the kind of.
- 4:03Speaker 1: The kind of water, the kind of rain that you're
- 4:05Speaker 1: getting in the sand Rando Valley because of course KFI
- 4:07Speaker 1: is in Burbank right there in the valley.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So am I expecting rain anytime soon? It's all about me. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 2: I don't care about you. Yes, evacuation you get well,
- 4:16Speaker 2: yeah it happens. So what Yeah Orange County really what
- 4:20Speaker 2: was going on in Orange County?
- 4:21Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 4:21Speaker 3: Orange County is expected to that. There is actually mandatory
- 4:24Speaker 3: evacuation orders right now in Orange County and it's for
- 4:28Speaker 3: the areas around the airport fire Burn Scar area that
- 4:33Speaker 3: goes into effect at eight o'clock this well, it's into effect,
- 4:37Speaker 3: and then for the Trabuco Creek area including the RC Airport,
- 4:43Speaker 3: Bell Canyon and that includes Star Ranch and Hot Springs Canyon,
- 4:48Speaker 3: and several roads in those areas will be closed because
- 4:50Speaker 3: of possible debris flow. Are those near you? Are you near?
- 4:53Speaker 5: No?
- 4:53Speaker 2: So I truly don't care.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Bill.
- 4:55Speaker 6: I'm looking at the radar and there's no yellow near
- 4:58Speaker 6: you yet. I know I know where you live. Yes,
- 5:02Speaker 6: and yes, there's no yellow there yet. It's all north,
- 5:04Speaker 6: It's all in the foothills and the xcell. So you're
- 5:07Speaker 6: saying it that way, Let's keep.
- 5:08Speaker 2: It that wa Just don't leave the house. Yeah, I know,
- 5:11Speaker 2: I have no plan on leaving the house. Okay, done
- 5:15Speaker 2: with that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I now this has to do with the Epstein case,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and that just simply will not go away. The Justice
- 5:23Speaker 1: Department released a new batch of documents and that includes
- 5:29Speaker 1: a lot more mentions.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And here's the big one.
- 5:32Speaker 1: President Trump is in a lot of these documents, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: it seems to indicate that he is or was much
- 5:40Speaker 1: closer to Jeff Epstein than was previously thought or was
- 5:47Speaker 1: noted and claimed by the President.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Keep in mind, we have to keep on saying this
- 5:50Speaker 2: over and over again.
- 5:51Speaker 1: There is no accusation of any illegal activity by the president,
- 5:57Speaker 1: no accusation of he was involved in any of the
- 6:02Speaker 1: predatory actions of Jeff Epstein, sex with minors, none of that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But no surprise here, the President claimed, very loudly when
- 6:13Speaker 1: he was accused of going on Jeff Epstein's airplane, for example, Nope,
- 6:17Speaker 1: never did it, Never been on that airplane. Will flight
- 6:19Speaker 1: logs have been released to show him. He has been
- 6:22Speaker 1: on the airplane, had been several times. And what's going
- 6:25Speaker 1: to end up happening is when it's all said and done,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I don't believe the president is going to be tagged
- 6:31Speaker 1: with any of the illegal acts because I just don't
- 6:33Speaker 1: believe he did him. However, I do believe he was
- 6:36Speaker 1: a lot closer to Jeff Epstein, and for anybody even connected,
- 6:41Speaker 1: having gone shopping with Jeff Epstein once in a lifetime,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the toxicity of any connection to Epstein is just I
- 6:50Speaker 1: don't even think can be understood. It's so toxic or
- 6:53Speaker 1: it's certainly going to be difficult time explaining away. And
- 6:57Speaker 1: so the Justice Department, this is a weird one because
- 7:01Speaker 1: during the course of the campaign, when the Justice Department,
- 7:04Speaker 1: this is Biden's just department, had these files, the Epstein files,
- 7:09Speaker 1: Trump and Republicans and conservatives made a huge deal.
- 7:13Speaker 2: You have to release the files. You have to release
- 7:15Speaker 2: the Epstein files.
- 7:16Speaker 1: You have to and then all of a sudden, the
- 7:18Speaker 1: Trump administration comes into being and oops, we.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Have no files. That was one story.
- 7:24Speaker 1: The other one was Pam Bondi saying the files are
- 7:28Speaker 1: on her desk and she hasn't looked at him yet. Okay,
- 7:32Speaker 1: By the way, there are a million pages of files
- 7:34Speaker 1: from what I understand, photos, files, memos, etc. And so
- 7:39Speaker 1: a law was passed by Congress almost unanimously to force
- 7:43Speaker 1: the administration to release the files, all of them, and
- 7:47Speaker 1: the administration fought and fought, and finally the vote took
- 7:51Speaker 1: place and it was almost unanimous, and the President did
- 7:54Speaker 1: sign it because it was veto proof. If he had
- 7:57Speaker 1: tried to veto it would be ridiculous, so he couldn't
- 7:59Speaker 1: do that. So last Friday it was the date for
- 8:03Speaker 1: all of the files to be released, and they haven't been.
- 8:05Speaker 1: They're being released in bits and batches. Well not so bits,
- 8:09Speaker 1: but thirty thousand pages were released.
- 8:11Speaker 2: But this is out of almost.
- 8:13Speaker 1: A million, and there's all kinds of stuff in there,
- 8:18Speaker 1: For example, arguments why did the FBI follow up on
- 8:22Speaker 1: leads that these girls were being molested by Epstein. There
- 8:29Speaker 1: were transcripts the grand jury co conspirators that were mentioned,
- 8:35Speaker 1: not that Trump was one of them, but there were
- 8:37Speaker 1: co conspirators, and it looks like circumstantially that Prince Edward
- 8:44Speaker 1: was all over Andrew. I rest my case, thank you
- 8:47Speaker 1: very much. I just that's a lawsuit right there. Prince
- 8:51Speaker 1: Andrew was tied up with this, even though his name
- 8:55Speaker 1: was not mentioned. If you look at all the circumstances
- 8:57Speaker 1: round it high We're at Bellmarrow for the family, the
- 9:00Speaker 1: royal family get together, which we do every Christmas. It
- 9:03Speaker 1: wasn't him specifically, but who else could it be? And
- 9:07Speaker 1: those connect Andrew even more if you look at the
- 9:12Speaker 1: circumstances surrounding those various emails and memos. But the bottom
- 9:16Speaker 1: line is that on a political level, Oh, here's what
- 9:19Speaker 1: the government did do is they release photos of Bill
- 9:23Speaker 1: Clinton and virtually all the major players during the nineties
- 9:27Speaker 1: and the early two thousands and throughout the start of
- 9:30Speaker 1: the two thousands new Epstein. I mean the number of
- 9:33Speaker 1: people that hung out with Epstein. Pick any big name
- 9:37Speaker 1: and there's a photo of them with Epstein. And there
- 9:40Speaker 1: was a Bill Clinton photo of which the administration and
- 9:44Speaker 1: the conservative pundits made a huge deal there isn't a
- 9:47Speaker 1: hot tub, and the accusation started going crazier and crazier,
- 9:54Speaker 1: even though Bill Clinton also is not accused of any wrongdoing.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But I love this one I'm reading about in the
- 10:00Speaker 1: New York Times. The story this morning is that once.
- 10:04Speaker 2: These files were released, all of.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Those pundits, the conservative pundits who were screaming Bill Clinton,
- 10:10Speaker 1: it's Bill Clinton who is involved with Epstein? Bill Clinton,
- 10:14Speaker 1: And now that it appears that the president is a
- 10:18Speaker 1: lot closer to Epstein than was previously thought. Again, no
- 10:22Speaker 1: accusation of wrongdoing. All of a sudden, they're all silent.
- 10:26Speaker 1: No one is saying a word. They're just silent about that,
- 10:30Speaker 1: which you would think.
- 10:31Speaker 2: They would be. You know.
- 10:32Speaker 1: That's their attack is on Clinton, not on the president.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But it's getting really good. We'll see how far this goes,
- 10:41Speaker 1: all right. We have not spoken to or I have
- 10:48Speaker 1: not spoken to Rod Pyle in a very long time.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And Rod, mister space guy, extraordinary.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Good morning, Rod, good morning, And I have you in
- 10:56Speaker 2: my ear every day. Oh, I appreciate that.
- 11:00Speaker 1: That's very kind, and I generally try to ignore you
- 11:02Speaker 1: every day, so it works out between the two of us.
- 11:04Speaker 5: That's good.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Real well, we've got a lot of stuff.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I mean, twenty twenty five obviously the year of SpaceX
- 11:12Speaker 1: and Elon Musk and we're not talking about the political
- 11:15Speaker 1: part of it, just the amount of launches SpaceX now
- 11:19Speaker 1: is doing. What are we looking for a big picture
- 11:23Speaker 1: in twenty twenty.
- 11:24Speaker 7: Six, Well, as I think you know, SpaceX really dominated
- 11:29Speaker 7: launch well for the last few years, and especially in
- 11:32Speaker 7: twenty twenty five. They launched one hundred and sixty five times.
- 11:35Speaker 7: Now contrast that to Night Launch Alliance, which used to
- 11:38Speaker 7: be our primary provider in the US, they launched once
- 11:42Speaker 7: and they just can't seem to get it back together.
- 11:44Speaker 7: SpaceX has taken over the market and launched more than
- 11:47Speaker 7: the rest of the world put together. So in twenty
- 11:50Speaker 7: six we expect to see more of that. We expect
- 11:53Speaker 7: to see the Hope starship orbit successfully and conduct all
- 11:57Speaker 7: its tests successfully so that they can move on with
- 11:59Speaker 7: that program. And he's going to continue launching Starlink satellites.
- 12:04Speaker 7: He put up about twenty three hundred of those this year,
- 12:08Speaker 7: so the total of about eleven thousand orbit now. And
- 12:10Speaker 7: they're also doing another program stalled called Starshield, which is
- 12:14Speaker 7: strictly from military. So this company, yeah, Musk level mer
- 12:18Speaker 7: hatim and he's.
- 12:19Speaker 5: A bit of a wacko.
- 12:20Speaker 7: But what this company has achieved, largely because of the
- 12:23Speaker 7: president Gwyn Shotwell you know who has a steady hand
- 12:27Speaker 7: on the tiller, is just revolutionized space flight for the planet.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I have all kinds of questions. But when you look
- 12:33Speaker 1: at starlink, what you do? Would you look at what
- 12:35Speaker 1: Elon Musk has done, no matter how crazy he is.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I mean, visionary is a word that has to apply.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And so when NASA, for example, I have two questions. NASA,
- 12:47Speaker 1: for example, when a capsule was being built, basically set
- 12:53Speaker 1: up the criterion, here's what we want, here's what we do,
- 12:58Speaker 1: here's what has to do. These are the safeguards, and
- 13:01Speaker 1: then it was built to order. Right, It's like a
- 13:04Speaker 1: burger king or in and out burger. They're doing it
- 13:06Speaker 1: to order. Now is it just off the shelf.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Where NASCA?
- 13:13Speaker 5: I mean you're right.
- 13:14Speaker 7: NASA used to do the specs and then they'd hand
- 13:17Speaker 7: to an aerospace contractor and send inspectors to stand over
- 13:19Speaker 7: your shoulder and make sure you turn that bolt exactly
- 13:22Speaker 7: two point four times.
- 13:24Speaker 5: That was a cost plus contract.
- 13:26Speaker 7: So you've got to set amount of money and then
- 13:28Speaker 7: every time you had over to the changes or wanted
- 13:30Speaker 7: a fib about more costs, you got that money.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Now it's all fixed fee.
- 13:34Speaker 7: So they go to some male SpaceX who, as you
- 13:37Speaker 7: point out, has designed their own dragon capsule. NASA still
- 13:40Speaker 7: goes through the human rating process to make sure it's safe.
- 13:44Speaker 7: But yeah, at this point NASA's moving to being a
- 13:47Speaker 7: customer instead of the driving force. And under this new administrator,
- 13:51Speaker 7: Jared Isaacman, who just confirmed last week, I think that's
- 13:54Speaker 7: going to work much better than it has been.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Hey, in terms of the market share THISAX has has gotten. Obviously,
- 14:03Speaker 1: it does a huge percentage of US space space launches,
- 14:08Speaker 1: virtually all of them. How about internationally, how big a
- 14:11Speaker 1: market do they have for India sending up a spacecraft
- 14:15Speaker 1: or England sending up a spacecraft.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Not much, it comes, it goes.
- 14:19Speaker 7: But China and India both have their own really aggressive programs.
- 14:23Speaker 7: So although it costs them in relative terms of their
- 14:26Speaker 7: economy more to launch domestically than to use SpaceX, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 7: you've got to use your own national launcher, and especially China,
- 14:35Speaker 7: we don't like doing space favors for China because there's
- 14:37Speaker 7: a lot of concern about transfer of intellectual property and
- 14:40Speaker 7: so forth. And when I say transfer, I meet theft.
- 14:43Speaker 7: So that's pretty much a closed door.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Rod Pyle, who is our space guru, we haven't talked
- 14:49Speaker 1: to in a while. Rod. We're talking about what's coming
- 14:52Speaker 1: down in twenty twenty six and the man missions.
- 14:55Speaker 2: How much closer are we to, for example, going.
- 14:59Speaker 1: To Mars allah SpaceX and what Elon Musk wants to do,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and then our the Moonshot going back to the Moon
- 15:08Speaker 1: where we're on.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Track to well, we're working against China on that one.
- 15:14Speaker 2: You know, we're in a race.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Yeah, So I'd say Mars is not a lot closer.
- 15:20Speaker 7: I mean that was what Starship SpaceX is spacecraft was
- 15:24Speaker 7: designed to do. They they're way behind their test flights.
- 15:29Speaker 7: It's been problematic, but they're getting closer. One problem is
- 15:32Speaker 7: one of these two things. One they keep redesigning it
- 15:36Speaker 7: between tests, so there's new stuff that go wrong every time, which.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Is no choice but that to Elon.
- 15:41Speaker 7: And the other one is he's been talking a little
- 15:43Speaker 7: bit about going public in twenty six, not twenty twenty
- 15:46Speaker 7: six of the same year. He said he wanted to
- 15:48Speaker 7: launch his first starship to Mars.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Good luck.
- 15:51Speaker 7: You know, our public shareholder is going to be as
- 15:54Speaker 7: enthusiastic about this Hail Mary idea he's got, So we'll
- 15:57Speaker 7: see about that. But you're right, the big story for
- 15:59Speaker 7: twenty is the Artemis two flight to loop the Moon.
- 16:03Speaker 7: Now we're not going into orbit like we did in
- 16:05Speaker 7: nineteen sixty eight. This is just a flight around the
- 16:08Speaker 7: backside and back to Earth. So what it's called a
- 16:10Speaker 7: free return trajectory, so even if something goes wrong on
- 16:13Speaker 7: the way, they will automatically be directed back to Earth
- 16:16Speaker 7: by gravity. Four astronauts, one African American, one woman, two
- 16:21Speaker 7: other people. And you know, the question here, of course,
- 16:25Speaker 7: since Trump got elected, was what's happening with the NASA budget.
- 16:28Speaker 7: We've been under this finally this continuing resolution, but the
- 16:33Speaker 7: administration was trying to cut NASA by about twenty five percent,
- 16:36Speaker 7: science by about fifty percent, but protecting money for the
- 16:40Speaker 7: lunar program, which is already just a small percentage of
- 16:43Speaker 7: what we spent on Apollo. So it's really been a
- 16:46Speaker 7: bit of a wild ride. But we're hoping to see
- 16:49Speaker 7: that they go up in February.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Now, what do you get by launching another another craft
- 16:56Speaker 1: of the moon and you go around the Moon and back.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Where's the upside here.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Well, the f side is bragging rights.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Hey look China, we're on our way, even though we
- 17:05Speaker 7: know you're a little ahead of us right now in
- 17:07Speaker 7: terms of an actual landing. And two it does it
- 17:10Speaker 7: gives the astronauts experience. It reminds us how to use
- 17:13Speaker 7: our tracking stations to track something that far out and
- 17:17Speaker 7: also test the life support systems and critically this heat
- 17:20Speaker 7: shield for coming back. As you probably recall a couple
- 17:23Speaker 7: of years ago, we flew an uncrewede test of Oryan
- 17:26Speaker 7: a little more burned through in that heat shield than
- 17:28Speaker 7: wanted to see. It's an old design with new formulation.
- 17:32Speaker 7: It's the same thing used on Apollo, but they're doing
- 17:34Speaker 7: it differently. So we really got to make sure that thing's.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Going to work coming home, all right, So there is
- 17:40Speaker 1: there's some reason method of the madness, because I'm just thinking, okay,
- 17:45Speaker 1: around the Moon again, I mean, we're doing ninety percent
- 17:48Speaker 1: or seventy five percent of what Apollo did. And then
- 17:52Speaker 1: you brought something up and that is the company going
- 17:57Speaker 1: Musca doing an IPO going public with SpaceX the same
- 18:02Speaker 1: year or during the time he's launching for Mars. Where's
- 18:05Speaker 1: the upside for an investor once you go to Mars.
- 18:09Speaker 7: That's a good question. I interviewed Grid shot Well a
- 18:11Speaker 7: couple of years ago and I said, how do you
