Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's media podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to me Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:14Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your guest host, Jannis Vitellis, aka
- 0:19Speaker 2: the Latvian Eagle, or, as my lovely wife recently dubbed me.
- 0:23Speaker 2: After a long day at a North Carolina beach, the
- 0:25Speaker 2: Latvian Lobster, we need a lot of alo that night.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Today we're joined by Brody Henderson, Randall Williams, Hansei Deshermeyer,
- 0:35Speaker 2: Max Bard, To Tressa Croker, Rick Hutton, and Spencer Newhart. Spencer,
- 0:40Speaker 2: this is your first time answering me Eater questions. Meet
- 0:44Speaker 2: Eater your trivia questions. How does it feel to be
- 0:46Speaker 2: on the playing side of the game, and how do
- 0:49Speaker 2: you think you'll stack up against these players?
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm nervous. You should be far more nervous than if
- 0:56Speaker 1: I was sitting in your chair because you've gotten comfortable.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Statement.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel uncomfortable about not knowing what's next, right,
- 1:04Speaker 1: Like I like with the script, I know what the
- 1:06Speaker 1: next question is going to be.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Control freak.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's right. I have a pretty good idea in my
- 1:12Speaker 1: head about like the the route that the game is
- 1:14Speaker 1: going to take, and like, oh, I think this will
- 1:16Speaker 1: be a tough one. This is one people do well with.
- 1:18Speaker 1: This is kind of a toss up between three choices.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I don't like the unknown of.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Well podcast studio too.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Probably I think Randall is onto something that was only
- 1:30Speaker 1: a joke. I really well, we'll see the.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Questions. Neither did I.
- 1:37Speaker 5: I hope so bad that Spencer gets a question he
- 1:40Speaker 5: wants to argue about.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I was like, no, we'll see. As far as how
- 1:43Speaker 1: I think I'll do, I don't know. I would say
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm I would I would bet I'm not in the
- 1:48Speaker 1: tier that like Brody Randal and Steve Are. I would
- 1:51Speaker 1: say I'm not in that tier, probably a full tier
- 1:54Speaker 1: below them, which makes me think of maybe like five today.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I don't know if our winner gets seven or eight.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Well, the Gennular index for today now usually I know
- 2:05Speaker 2: we say that till later, but since you just brought
- 2:08Speaker 2: up what you think your score is, I'll tell you
- 2:10Speaker 2: the Jennifer Index was three.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I hope I can get the Jennifer Index then, Oh
- 2:13Speaker 1: that would make me happy.
- 2:14Speaker 2: You'll get that. I got it. I got a couple
- 2:17Speaker 2: bones for everybody in this one, because my goal. My
- 2:20Speaker 2: goal is just to do a good enough job today
- 2:22Speaker 2: that if this happens again where you're like, man, i'd
- 2:25Speaker 2: really like to play again, or I'm out next week?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Can you guess host that you know you'll be like, oh, yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 2: he did a good enough job last time that I'll
- 2:33Speaker 2: ask him to do it again.
- 2:34Speaker 1: It'll be fun.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So if you're not familiar, this is a ten round
- 2:37Speaker 2: quiz show with questions from meat eaters for verticals hunting, fishing, conservation,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and cooking, and there's a prize. Meat eater will donate
- 2:45Speaker 2: five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Now to clarify, I'm not trying to take Spencer's job.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I wanted a guest host for two reasons. First, so
- 2:56Speaker 2: that Spencer could get to enjoy playing trivia. And I
- 3:00Speaker 2: thought that because I thought it'd be fun to host,
- 3:04Speaker 2: especially if I could come up with questions that would
- 3:06Speaker 2: irritate Steve and Brody. Now, Steve found out that I
- 3:09Speaker 2: was hosting and figured he'd be so irritated he decided
- 3:12Speaker 2: to stay in Alaska an extra week, so he's not
- 3:14Speaker 2: even here today. So Brody, it's all up to you
- 3:17Speaker 2: to give me immediate feedback on my questions and hosting
- 3:20Speaker 2: a bity.
- 3:21Speaker 5: It's gonna feel a lot different arguing with you than Spencer,
- 3:24Speaker 5: though I'm not sure how it's gonna work out.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like a substitute teacher is. Yeah, I get
- 3:29Speaker 1: treated like a teacher who just gave homework on like
- 3:31Speaker 1: the week of Christmas break.
- 3:33Speaker 5: I feel like, yes, in high school, you'd be a
- 3:35Speaker 5: smart ass, and you would have a tea, you'd have
- 3:37Speaker 5: certain teachers.
- 3:38Speaker 2: You'd call him by their first name, you know.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know if I can do that with you, honest,
- 3:43Speaker 5: Like with you, I can treat her like that.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like you can take a bit advantage
- 3:47Speaker 4: of honest too.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So are we intimidated by the substitute teacher? But that
- 3:52Speaker 1: we can steamroll this guy because you don't.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Know what you're getting. When you get a stub.
- 3:55Speaker 5: You could get a real hard ass or a dude
- 3:57Speaker 5: who just doesn't care. So I don't know what I'm
- 3:59Speaker 5: getting yet.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean my go to to if I get
- 4:03Speaker 2: in a tough place, I'm just gonna say f off.
- 4:05Speaker 2: The next question, is it a good shot?
- 4:08Speaker 6: All? Right?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Before we start playing, we're gonna cover our zero percenter
- 4:12Speaker 2: and this week the question is oh sorry. The zero
- 4:17Speaker 2: per center of the question of the week is it
- 4:19Speaker 2: tests how much knowledge players have retained from previous games.
- 4:22Speaker 2: This question was from episode four to fourteen. The topic
- 4:26Speaker 2: was trapping, and you guessed that nobody got it right.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Name one of the three states that have a bobcat
- 4:32Speaker 2: population over two hundred thousand Florida correct, anybody else?
- 4:39Speaker 3: There's two others Texas.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Correct, Wow, changed some information. There's one other who can
- 4:48Speaker 2: name the.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Third Alabama, Georgia.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Georgia, good job. The incorrect answers that were given were Nebraska, California, Arizona,
- 4:56Speaker 2: and New Mexico.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Brody played that game, so did Yanni.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 5: I remember being very surprised by all the southern stains,
- 5:03Speaker 5: although we all know that there's a shitload of them
- 5:06Speaker 5: in Florida and Texas.
- 5:07Speaker 7: There's a shipload of everything in Texas, which has kind
- 5:09Speaker 7: of become my go to guests for a lot of
- 5:11Speaker 7: these types of questions.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Smart onto some housekeeping. In a previous game of trivia,
- 5:17Speaker 2: we talked about New Hampshire's Mount Washington and it's extreme weather.
- 5:22Speaker 2: This prompted someone in the room to ask about the
- 5:24Speaker 2: mountain's elevation to which Brody said, it was about you. Remember,
- 5:29Speaker 2: did I say five K three thousand feet? You wish
- 5:32Speaker 2: you would have said five k. This guy probably wouldn't
- 5:34Speaker 2: have written in well. A number of listeners wrote in
- 5:36Speaker 2: to point out that Brody wasn't even half right. Mount
- 5:39Speaker 2: Washington's elevation is six thousand, two hundred and eighty eight feet,
- 5:43Speaker 2: making it the tallest mountain in New England. There all right,
- 5:51Speaker 2: So if you haven't if you didn't hear me earlier,
- 5:53Speaker 2: the Jennifer index for today's game is a three, so
- 5:56Speaker 2: our winner should get six correct answers. And with that
- 6:00Speaker 2: we're on to the game of trivia. Play the drop, Philo.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Win everything, just tend to win everything. Game on Suckers, Joanni,
- 6:23Speaker 1: did you explain who Jennifer is?
- 6:27Speaker 8: Uh?
- 6:27Speaker 2: No, I ventured her already twice in today's episode. I
- 6:31Speaker 2: didn't know. I did say my lovely wife, but maybe
- 6:34Speaker 2: I didn't say my lovely wife Jennifer earlier. Jennifer is my.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Lovely wife and she played on the spouse's episode that
- 6:41Speaker 1: we had about a year ago.
- 6:42Speaker 2: That's right. That would have been a nice tidbit for
- 6:45Speaker 2: me to add add in there. I thought about Colin
- 6:48Speaker 2: Shelby and running up by her to keep on with
- 6:51Speaker 2: this Shelby like this.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I like where you got going.
- 6:53Speaker 2: But yeah, Jennifer played in bits. She's so busy right
- 6:58Speaker 2: now because her summer season is busy. She's running around
- 7:00Speaker 2: a lot. So I'd catchure for like three questions and
- 7:02Speaker 2: then should come back get another couple. All right. The
- 7:05Speaker 2: first question today is in hunting, it's multiple choices always.
- 7:11Speaker 2: The pad of a mountain lion has how many lobes one, two, three,
- 7:19Speaker 2: or four?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Throwing a bone to yourself there, I see.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I see no fast answers so far. Yeah, well, I
- 7:31Speaker 2: thought I had to sort of, you know, personalize it
- 7:36Speaker 2: a little bit this episode. I talk about this stuff
- 7:40Speaker 2: enough with all of my not all, but a lot
- 7:44Speaker 2: of my colleagues, because I'm always asking for people to
- 7:46Speaker 2: find mountain lion tracks for me and Mangus to trail.
- 7:50Speaker 2: So I thought you guys might know it.
- 7:54Speaker 1: This is how you help them identify. You tell them
- 7:56Speaker 1: you got to look for something with this many pads.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I actually have a little album that has some pictures
- 8:04Speaker 2: of tracks, cads, stride lengths, little diagrams.
- 8:10Speaker 5: All right, it does enough information you've sent me that
- 8:14Speaker 5: before I.
- 8:15Speaker 2: See does everybody have an answer? Yeah? Yes, Okay, go
- 8:22Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. Brody going with one, trusts
- 8:27Speaker 2: the four Rick four, Randall three, Hansi four Max two,
- 8:31Speaker 2: Spencer three. We have a correct answer in the room.
- 8:35Speaker 2: It is three. This is a common way to distinguish
- 8:40Speaker 2: a lion track from similarly sized tracks like those made
- 8:44Speaker 2: by domestic dogs and coyotes, which only have two lobes
- 8:47Speaker 2: in the pad. A canine track will also be symmetrical,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and it'll have nails in it. Feline's tracks are asymmetrical.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Draw one. Is this you arguing? Or to improve the show?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Brody handed his board to Yanni and he said, Yanni,
- 9:05Speaker 1: draw on. It was pretty stern.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Ye see how we thought you could identify a mountain
- 9:11Speaker 2: line by drawing an X in the print in the snow?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Is that not accurate? So you're talking these jobbies on?
- 9:17Speaker 2: Then those are the lobes pad.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Oh, I thought you were talking about the actual padded So.
- 9:24Speaker 5: That's why I said one.
- 9:27Speaker 2: This whole thing.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Was the lobe.
- 9:29Speaker 4: I still wouldn't got it.
- 9:30Speaker 2: But you thought the whole thing was a little this part,
- 9:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's the pad. Then it has three lobes.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That's good question.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Line's tracks are asymmetrical. They have a leading toe on
- 9:44Speaker 2: the inside of the foot. So if you find a
- 9:46Speaker 2: track with three lobes in the pad lacking indentse from
- 9:49Speaker 2: nails and the second toe from the left is leading
- 9:52Speaker 2: the others, you're most likely looking at a track made
- 9:54Speaker 2: by the right foot of a cat. If it's about
- 9:57Speaker 2: four inches wide and near Bozeman, Montana on blick Land.
- 10:00Speaker 2: This winner. Shoot me a d M on Instagram at
- 10:03Speaker 2: underscore tell us and mingus and I will come to
- 10:06Speaker 2: try and track.
- 10:07Speaker 1: It was Tress's thing. Correct about you drawn X in
- 10:10Speaker 1: the snow? Have you heard that?
- 10:11Speaker 6: I've heard about I've heard that for canines though, yeh,
- 10:15Speaker 6: canine is the X one exactly because it is symmetrical.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Yeah, if you can't drawn extra it it's a cat.
- 10:20Speaker 2: That's correct.
- 10:21Speaker 4: So I've been looking at the wrong.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Thing on the question too, which is conservation. What state
- 10:28Speaker 2: capital is the highest above sea level? Nobody with a
- 10:37Speaker 2: quick answer, hmm, Hansi's writing.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Hmmm, that's a great question.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Spencer's drawing more than writing.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Just what my handwriting looks like now. I think if
- 10:58Speaker 1: Steve were here, he would already say conservation.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Point. You wouldn't say that. Though. I like the geography questions,
- 11:11Speaker 2: Like I said, I'm not strong at them when when
- 11:13Speaker 2: when they go to the eastern side of the country.
- 11:15Speaker 2: But uh, you know, I actually had to cut out
- 11:18Speaker 2: geography questions because I had too many still thinking.
- 11:25Speaker 4: I mean, I'm trying to my answer is a capital or.
- 11:33Speaker 3: There's a couple I can think of that would be
- 11:35Speaker 3: strong contenders.
- 11:36Speaker 9: Uh huh, this would be a great like bar trivia question,
- 11:51Speaker 9: not to say that it's.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Question Brody is still thinking, Spencer, do you have an answer?
- 11:58Speaker 1: I have an answer?
- 11:59Speaker 2: Okay, I think we're just waiting on Brody and Max.
- 12:06Speaker 1: For the state.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I feel like you need a little timer here. I'm
- 12:12Speaker 2: gonna have a lot of ideas about how to get
- 12:14Speaker 2: this game.
- 12:15Speaker 8: I mean, this is the guy who was probably the
- 12:17Speaker 8: most simply passed the time listen when we played that
- 12:21Speaker 8: game at home called uh it's the title game with
- 12:24Speaker 8: the numbers no numbers, no numbers.
- 12:32Speaker 1: If somebody could trademark that game, and.
- 12:34Speaker 2: You yell the thing when you only have one tile
- 12:37Speaker 2: left fish but there explicitly says you only have two minutes,
- 12:47Speaker 2: and we always start the timer.
- 12:48Speaker 1: All right, now we're looking for the capitol, right, not
- 12:51Speaker 1: the state.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Correct, you're listening to the capitol state? What state cap
- 13:01Speaker 2: And you're hey, that's tricky because when I first wrote
- 13:03Speaker 2: the question, I said which state's capital, and in that
- 13:07Speaker 2: case you would have answered the state. But the answer
- 13:12Speaker 2: is a city.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I don't know how tricky that is. Tricky which state's
- 13:22Speaker 3: capital versus which state capital? I don't know. I don't
- 13:26Speaker 3: think it's that tricky. I think we're good.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Let's just.
- 13:31Speaker 2: We're already going Salt Lake City, Tresa, what I was ready? Listen,
- 13:46Speaker 2: We're not. We can't.
- 13:48Speaker 8: Okay, I'm gonna have got to the philm camp to
- 13:50Speaker 8: just say we're not re recording this because we can't.
- 13:53Speaker 8: The questions have been asked. So we'll come back later and.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Finish the up real quick to see what happened.
- 13:58Speaker 2: As long as the room is called comfortable. Tresa Denver, Rick, Helena, Montana,
- 14:04Speaker 2: Randall Denver, Hansei Denver, Max Denver, Spencer Denver. We do
- 14:09Speaker 2: not have it, Ah, Santa Fe, New Mexican.
- 14:16Speaker 3: That was my next guest.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Okay, we'll be back after the gas leak. Stay tune.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, Sabot I.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Mean, I just wanted to do it one time so
- 14:29Speaker 2: that Spencer would get to enjoy. Are you enjoying yourself?
- 14:34Speaker 1: I am are re recording, Phil, We're recording it. I
- 14:37Speaker 1: am enjoying it. The gas leak was a nice touchy
- 14:39Speaker 1: on me. I'd never considered having an emergency interruption before
- 14:44Speaker 1: in a show, but you pulled it off.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I suggested the kitchen fire. He went with a gas leak.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was good.
- 14:51Speaker 2: It worked out well for you too, because it turned
- 14:53Speaker 2: into a beer break. Other people just decided to have
- 14:57Speaker 2: a cold, sparkling beverage with No. Oh, I'll go home
- 15:00Speaker 2: or check your emails, or check you emails. I got
- 15:03Speaker 2: a phone call in But anyways, let's get back to trivia.
- 15:06Speaker 2: The last question was what state capital is the highest
- 15:09Speaker 2: above sea level. Unfortunately, nobody got it wrong. Santa Fe
- 15:13Speaker 2: is the answer, at seven one and ninety nine feet.
- 15:17Speaker 2: It sits in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which also
- 15:20Speaker 2: holds the state's highest point, wheeler peak, coming at thirteen thousand,
- 15:24Speaker 2: one hundred and sixty one feet. The next highest state
- 15:27Speaker 2: capitals are Cheyenne, Wyoming at six thousand, eighty six Denver
- 15:31Speaker 2: at five thousand, two hundred and seventy six, Carson City,
- 15:34Speaker 2: Nevada at four thousand, six hundred and eighty two, and
- 15:38Speaker 2: routing out, rounding out the top five Salt Lake City
- 15:41Speaker 2: at four thousand, two hundred and sixty five.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Very interesting, very good price. Question till thank you to
- 15:51Speaker 1: If I were going to redo that question right, and
- 15:54Speaker 1: obviously if I was trying to make a stronger tie
- 15:56Speaker 1: to the media universe, I would say something like, in
- 15:58Speaker 1: your factoid, you'd like nestled in the San Bonita Mountains
- 16:02Speaker 1: or whatever, this is the highest state capital in America,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and then it'd be like a public lands tie. So
- 16:09Speaker 1: he was right there. I'd liked it was a good question.
- 16:11Speaker 7: Though, Wheeler Peak in the adjacent Blank National Forest.
- 16:16Speaker 2: You guys have been hard on you.
- 16:18Speaker 8: I agree.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I think I appreciate appreciate the feedback.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That's when Yanni says question three.
- 16:26Speaker 2: F off Question three cooking. This is the thin, tacky,
- 16:31Speaker 2: lacquer like layer that forms on fish flesh after it
- 16:35Speaker 2: has been brined and then dried, giving smoke something to
- 16:39Speaker 2: adhere to Brody with a quick answer as I expected
- 16:45Speaker 2: with this question. That's my bone. Yes, yeah, Well, you
- 16:51Speaker 2: being a meat eater or a trivia master. There's gonna
- 16:54Speaker 2: be a couple in here for you, but yeah, gotta
- 17:02Speaker 2: have it if you want. Yep, that's right again. The
- 17:08Speaker 2: question is this is the thin, tacky, lacquer like layer
- 17:12Speaker 2: that forms on fish flesh after it has been brined
- 17:16Speaker 2: and then dried, giving smoke something to adhere to. A
- 17:24Speaker 2: couple more answers coming in slowly, Tresa and Rick still thinking.
- 17:30Speaker 2: How are you doing down there?
- 17:31Speaker 5: Randall?
- 17:32Speaker 3: Not happy.
- 17:38Speaker 2: My worst fear coming into this is that it'd be
- 17:41Speaker 2: like a ten for ten for everybody. Dude, the questions
- 17:45Speaker 2: were so easy.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I don't know this answer, but I know Steve provided
- 17:52Speaker 1: it in the past as an incorrect answer to a
- 17:54Speaker 1: different question.
- 17:55Speaker 7: I don't think that's the right answer. That was my
- 17:58Speaker 7: initial answer. I don't think it's the right Maybe i'll
- 18:01Speaker 7: write it down anyway.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Oh you think you know what I'm referring to?
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah? Enough, chit chat there, boys.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I just don't think it's I don't think what do.
- 18:11Speaker 2: You think it's? Spencer? You know you don't know, like
- 18:14Speaker 2: the Games shift.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I didn't think he'd have that recollection.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your hand on that question. Brody
- 18:22Speaker 2: with pellicle Tressa no answer, Rick and A Randall maya
- 18:27Speaker 2: globe in Hansei pellicle max silver Skin, Spencer Rind We
- 18:31Speaker 2: have a correct question. It is pellicle.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 18:36Speaker 2: The pellicle is formed when proteins from the meat bond
- 18:39Speaker 2: as they dry on the outside of the fish. The
- 18:42Speaker 2: pellicle also helps to seal in moisture. It is a
- 18:45Speaker 2: crucial step in smoking fish and any meat for that matter.
- 18:48Speaker 2: If you want to try smoking fish and making your
- 18:51Speaker 2: own pellicle, check out Wade Chewong's recipe for smoked catfish
- 18:55Speaker 2: at the meat eater dot com.
- 18:57Speaker 3: So is the pellicle composed of those proteins?
- 19:00Speaker 2: Correct?
- 19:01Speaker 3: Are those myoglobin proteins?
- 19:03Speaker 2: I do you know what's interesting about this question? I
- 19:06Speaker 2: can tell you that there is not a lot besides
- 19:10Speaker 2: what I've told you on the internet exactly about the
- 19:13Speaker 2: chemical process of creating pellicle.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Mmmm.
- 19:18Speaker 2: That was surprised. Kristin wanted me to like Instagram famous
- 19:23Speaker 2: chefs and stuff. I'm like, bro, I don't have enough
- 19:25Speaker 2: time for it. So we're gonna We're gonna go with
- 19:27Speaker 2: what I found. Good way to get it.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Is run a fan over that stuff.
- 19:31Speaker 2: That's right. Question one Question four hunting based on sales
- 19:38Speaker 2: data from Federal Ammunition. What is the most popular bullet
- 19:43Speaker 2: weight in thirty caliber bullets? So I'm looking.
- 19:50Speaker 3: For a weight, so this is in loaded.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Correct, So cartridges not well loaded cartridges. What they said
- 20:05Speaker 2: looking for a weight bullet weights for answer is in
- 20:09Speaker 2: bullet weight, but yeah, what they sell in cartridges? Gotcha, Brody,
- 20:19Speaker 2: quick answer. Spencer's got an answer?
- 20:22Speaker 4: So this is this is the grain?
- 20:23Speaker 3: Right?
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yes?
- 20:25Speaker 1: Okay, hmmm.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Seemed not a big raffle guy.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I know you were quick, Brody. You think you have
- 20:33Speaker 1: this one?
- 20:33Speaker 2: Right? Man?
- 20:36Speaker 5: I shot at thirty caliber for a long time, and yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 5: I hope so, but I don't know.
- 20:41Speaker 2: There's a lot of different ways out there. But yeah,
- 20:44Speaker 2: there's for a lot of different things.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Federal only loads loads certain bullets. They have their own bullets.
- 20:51Speaker 6: But well, I'm not going to say it because there's one.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I put down a shock and weight.
- 20:58Speaker 2: It's gonna be incorrect.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I'm joking.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer? No? Not yet?
- 21:04Speaker 6: Hold on, yeah, I'm still I'm between three.
- 21:06Speaker 4: You got five seconds?
- 21:08Speaker 2: Come on, Rick, you're a gun guy.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Well, yeah, do you have a favorite question today? Annie
- 21:12Speaker 1: and your batch?
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yes? I do Okay, I saved it for the end.
- 21:17Speaker 3: There you go.
- 21:20Speaker 2: It's a tough one. Yeah, but we're all going to
- 21:24Speaker 2: learn something again. Based on sales data from Federal Ammunition,
- 21:33Speaker 2: what is the most popular bullet weight in thirty caliber
- 21:37Speaker 2: caliber bullets?
- 21:39Speaker 5: I might change my answer.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Very good question, you're honest. It's a it makes you
- 21:56Speaker 2: think about it.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Yeah, No, I'm not going to change it.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Fine, No, let's go, okay, let's just do it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Ye, reveal your answers. Brody one hundred and eighty, Tressade
- 22:11Speaker 2: two point zero nine grains, Rick won fifty, Randall won
- 22:16Speaker 2: sixty five, Hansei won sixty five, Max one forty, and
- 22:19Speaker 2: Spencer one hundred and fifty grains. We do have correct
- 22:23Speaker 2: answers in the room. It is one hundred and fifty grains.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Yess job, guys.
- 22:29Speaker 2: It's dang thirty thirties.
- 22:31Speaker 6: Now, Brody's the three oh eighty whatever.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I guarantee it correct. That's Brian Calvington from Federal and
- 22:41Speaker 2: he replied to me that the rifle team went through
- 22:43Speaker 2: recent database on a five year average and surprisingly it
- 22:47Speaker 2: is the one fifty grain bullet being driven by the
- 22:50Speaker 2: thirty thirty and three oh eight one hundred eighty grain
- 22:55Speaker 2: is second and then one sixty five. I would have
- 22:58Speaker 2: guessed won eighty myself. If you like to know more
- 23:03Speaker 2: about the thirty thirty, check out Jordan Siller's Caliber Battle
- 23:07Speaker 2: article thirty thirty win versus three point fifty legend at
- 23:10Speaker 2: the Meat eater dot Com.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Well, Donianni, yeah, I really like that question.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Honest guys making me feel I'm slaying for my bone.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Well, I didn't know who exactly was going to be
- 23:23Speaker 2: on the show. Max. Here we go on to question five.
- 23:31Speaker 2: It's fishing. I'm going to tell you how to tie
- 23:34Speaker 2: a specific knot, and it needs you to tell me
- 23:37Speaker 2: what knot it is. Pass the working end of the
- 23:40Speaker 2: line through the eye of the hook, Wrap it five
- 23:44Speaker 2: times around the standing line, Pass it through the first
- 23:47Speaker 2: loop between the hook and the first wrap, Pull the
- 23:50Speaker 2: working end and the standing line to tighten the knot,
- 23:54Speaker 2: Clip the tag in, and you're finished. What is the
- 23:57Speaker 2: name of this knot?
- 24:04Speaker 5: This would have been a good one for the kids episode.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I told you I had a bone for everybody of BARROTI.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Max is thinking, still, Oh, you got an answer written down? Okay,
- 24:18Speaker 2: does ever have an answer? Hansey?
- 24:20Speaker 1: Oh, I think there's read it again. I want to
- 24:23Speaker 1: hear it again.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you how to tie a specific knot.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Tell me what the knot is. Pass the working end
- 24:29Speaker 2: of the line through the eye of the hook, Wrap
- 24:31Speaker 2: it five times around the standing line. Pass it through
- 24:34Speaker 2: the first loot between the hook and the first wrap.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Pull the working end and the standing line to tighten
- 24:39Speaker 2: the knot. Clip the tag end, and you're done. What's
- 24:43Speaker 2: the name of the knot? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 24:49Speaker 3: This is like a reading comprehension.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Quiz Brody Clinch, tress Side fisherman's knot, Rick Clinch, Randall Clinch,
- 24:56Speaker 2: Hansei Improved Fishermen's Max Improved Clint Inch Fisherman's not from Spencer.
- 25:05Speaker 2: The answer is Clinch knot. I would have also accepted Cinch.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I am unsure if this knot is ever called a
- 25:14Speaker 2: fisherman's I think it's.
- 25:15Speaker 1: A similar knot, but I feel like it stopped one
- 25:18Speaker 1: step short of becoming a fisherman's not.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Improved the fisherman's make one, So unfortunately, Max, we're not
- 25:28Speaker 2: going to be able to give it to you.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Phil, can you give me a half point.
- 25:33Speaker 2: The Clinch knot is a foundational knot tied by millions
- 25:37Speaker 2: of anglers worldwide, also referred to as the cinch. It's
- 25:41Speaker 2: probably the easiest and fastest not to tie. It's strong,
- 25:44Speaker 2: although you may experience slippage with raided lines.
- 25:49Speaker 4: To improve clinch UNI for braid or the improved clinch.
- 25:56Speaker 2: That was question number five. So Phil, can you give
- 25:59Speaker 2: us a score update please? Yeah? I love to. Yeah.
- 26:04Speaker 8: Okay, We've got Max and Tresa yet to make it
- 26:07Speaker 8: on the board of zero points. Hansei has one point
- 26:10Speaker 8: and then it's tight game. We've got Brody, Randall, Rick
- 26:13Speaker 8: and Spencer all tied up with two points a piece.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I thought I was out of it. Yeah, I got it.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Now I got to concentrate. Yeah. I think there's a
- 26:22Speaker 2: bunch of you that were thought you were out of it,
- 26:24Speaker 2: but with two you are still in it. I'm feeling
- 26:27Speaker 2: a little bit bad for making tough questions now hard
- 26:30Speaker 2: as substitute teacher. Yeah. Question number six is hunting. Sarco
- 26:47Speaker 2: cistis found in dabbling ducks is a disease more commonly
- 26:52Speaker 2: known as what Max. If this ain't a bone for you,
- 26:56Speaker 2: I don't know what is? Oh my goodness, sarco cistus
- 27:04Speaker 2: found in dabbling ducks, is a disease more commonly known
- 27:08Speaker 2: as what HANSI also a waterfowler, and I would hope
- 27:16Speaker 2: that it would have been a bone for you as well.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I got a bone to pick with you. Oh boy,
- 27:22Speaker 2: did I mispronounce it? We'll get there. I knew this
- 27:32Speaker 2: would happen, but it's part of playing the game.
- 27:35Speaker 1: What would happened that there'd be a bone?
- 27:39Speaker 2: I question six before the first bone to pick came.
- 27:43Speaker 1: About a grind excited to witness this. I hope you
- 27:50Speaker 1: thoroughly pick it. Brody. I'm just going to sit here
- 27:51Speaker 1: and enjoy whenever goes down.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Did you find any in the ducks we killed last
- 27:57Speaker 4: de summer?
- 28:00Speaker 3: This seems like.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Did you find any what?
- 28:08Speaker 4: Well, let me tell you.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah, the space that I have on right now,
- 28:17Speaker 2: I've seen Spencer make many a time. No, when it's
- 28:22Speaker 2: like I can't give away anything from my face about
- 28:26Speaker 2: what they're trying to ask of me, poker face. Yeah,
- 28:32Speaker 2: is everybody ready to reveal their answers?
- 28:36Speaker 1: Oh?
- 28:36Speaker 3: I don't have an answer. I don't have an answer.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Probably would you like a little more time, Randall?
- 28:43Speaker 3: No, that's fine.
- 28:44Speaker 2: You can go ahead, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Brody with rice breast, tressa, no answer, Rick bird flu,
- 28:51Speaker 2: Randall and no answer Hans the avian flu, Max, rice breast, Spencer,
- 28:55Speaker 2: rice breast. The correct answer is rice breast.
- 28:59Speaker 3: There you go, Max.
- 29:00Speaker 2: The parasitic infection is called sarcocystis. The infection does not
- 29:05Speaker 2: affect the duck. There are no signs of infection other
- 29:08Speaker 2: than the visible cysts. The duck or other prey animal
- 29:12Speaker 2: is the intermediate host, and pretaders like skunk's coyotes foxes
- 29:15Speaker 2: are the primary. When the predator eats an infected duck,
- 29:18Speaker 2: the cysts open up may and produce microscopic eggs, which
- 29:21Speaker 2: are poofed out the duck accidentally ingest the eggs, usually
- 29:26Speaker 2: at water sources. The eggs hatch, The larvae find their
- 29:29Speaker 2: way to major muscles of the duck and form the
- 29:31Speaker 2: rice shaped cyst. Freezing or cooking meat will kill the parasite,
- 29:35Speaker 2: but most hunters discard infected meat. To see a photo
- 29:38Speaker 2: of rice breast, go to my instagram Giannis underscore Ptellus
- 29:42Speaker 2: and look at the post from December thirty one, twenty
- 29:45Speaker 2: twenty two. Brody it's not real bad. I'm just wondering
- 29:51Speaker 2: whether it should be called a disease or not. Oh,
- 29:54Speaker 2: or a parasite, you know what I mean?
- 29:56Speaker 8: M hmm.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Did any of the ducks that you and Max killed?
- 29:59Speaker 1: Did they have ice breast?
- 30:00Speaker 2: They did?
- 30:01Speaker 1: Okay, what did you guys do with them?
- 30:03Speaker 2: I ended up I put him away and then I
- 30:06Speaker 2: ended up just cooking them and feeding them to Mingus.
- 30:08Speaker 1: What Domingus think? Any feedback? That's good.
- 30:17Speaker 2: We're ont of question seven, which is conservation, and this
- 30:21Speaker 2: great question comes to us via Logan Landman. If you
- 30:25Speaker 2: have a question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia,
- 30:27Speaker 2: you can send it to trivia atthemeaeater dot com. For
- 30:31Speaker 2: his question. Logan is going to receive what can I
- 30:34Speaker 2: throw him, Spencer.
- 30:35Speaker 1: He's going to get books signed by Steve.
- 30:38Speaker 2: All right, there you go, Logan.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Eventually, when the board game is now, people are going
- 30:41Speaker 1: to get a board game that's signed by us. But
- 30:44Speaker 1: until then they get books signed by Steve.
- 30:47Speaker 3: I love it.
- 30:49Speaker 2: The question is what tree species dominated American forests and
- 30:54Speaker 2: almost went extinct in the early twentieth century due to disease.
- 31:03Speaker 2: What was the topic again, conservation? I think that fits
- 31:08Speaker 2: one hundred percent in there. Rick Quick answer random quick answer. Rick,
- 31:13Speaker 2: you're a forest forestry major major, So was this an
- 31:18Speaker 2: easy question for you? Yeah? I feel like it.
- 31:21Speaker 6: Maybe I'll get slapped and have got wrong.
- 31:24Speaker 5: But I feel like when when did you say it
- 31:26Speaker 5: almost blinked out?
- 31:28Speaker 4: Nineteen twenty?
- 31:29Speaker 2: Early twentieth century?
- 31:32Speaker 4: Got the twenty part right.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Again? What tree species dominated American forests and almost went
- 31:43Speaker 2: extinct in the early twentieth century? Part of the good point?
- 31:49Speaker 1: Brody stop.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yep, I think we can give you that can I'm
- 31:56Speaker 2: gonna split it in half and tell you that the
- 31:59Speaker 2: it is the eastern half of the United States.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Didn't change his answer.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Please reveal your answers. If everybody has one, Brody goes
- 32:11Speaker 2: with American elms, oh Rick, American chestnut, Randall Elm Hanse,
- 32:17Speaker 2: the elm max, American elm, Spencer chestnut. The correct answer
- 32:21Speaker 2: is the American chestnuts.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Oh, I like my ally, Yeah, good one, because I
- 32:27Speaker 5: thought that was in the fifties when that happened.
- 32:30Speaker 1: That was Is there any while room could have they
- 32:32Speaker 1: affected what's the disease? Could have the disease affected elm
- 32:35Speaker 1: and about knocked them out?
- 32:37Speaker 3: There are a lot of folks that thought it was elm.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Now it's.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Dutch elm disease was like later in the eighth century.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I think it was.
- 32:45Speaker 6: It was not far behind Dutch elm disease was early
- 32:48Speaker 6: twentieth would have been American chestnut Dutch elm, depending on
- 32:51Speaker 6: the state and what part because it hit like the
- 32:54Speaker 6: east coast, different than depper Midwest, which uh would have
- 32:58Speaker 6: been like later like mid.
- 33:05Speaker 2: You could say early mid to late. You can break
- 33:07Speaker 2: it into that.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Do we have any extinct trees in like the United States?
- 33:11Speaker 6: The American chestnut I think is the one that's the
- 33:13Speaker 6: closest to the very close I mean, and the biggest.
- 33:16Speaker 6: There's a couple of big ones. I think the biggest
- 33:18Speaker 6: ones still could be wrong about this. True trees would
- 33:21Speaker 6: be in a Tennessee what true field.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Of trees theress like.
- 33:31Speaker 2: The biggest. Yeah. Chestnut blight was brought to the US
- 33:34Speaker 2: in nineteen oh four through the introjuct introduction of Japanese
- 33:39Speaker 2: chestnut trees to the Bronx Zoo. Within forty years, the
- 33:43Speaker 2: nearly four billion strong American chestnut population in North America
- 33:47Speaker 2: was devastated, and only a few clumps of trees remained
- 33:51Speaker 2: in Michigan, Wisconsin. In the Pacific Northwest, it is estimated
- 33:55Speaker 2: that in some places, such such as the Appalachian Mountains,
- 33:59Speaker 2: one in every or hardwoods was an American chestnut. Pretty
- 34:04Speaker 2: amazing to think that that went down. Onto question eight hunting,
- 34:11Speaker 2: And this is your second geography question for the day.
- 34:16Speaker 2: What Canadian province sits between Maine and the Gulf of
- 34:22Speaker 2: Saint Lawrence. Again, the question is what Canadian province sits
- 34:35Speaker 2: between Maine and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Brody, how
- 34:43Speaker 2: do you feeling about this one? So so, Spencer, I.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Feel okay, or I might be really embarrassed. You could
- 34:52Speaker 1: tell me this is on the other side of the continent,
- 34:55Speaker 1: but I think I think I've got a good shot
- 34:57Speaker 1: at it.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Research in this question, I was surprised how many
- 35:01Speaker 2: provinces Old Canada asked this is hunting. I see. I
- 35:10Speaker 2: just feel like all geography is always related.
- 35:13Speaker 6: To hunting or conservation in my mind, or conservation, I agree, honestly,
- 35:17Speaker 6: I like it.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Rick, You're being a great cheerleader.
- 35:21Speaker 6: Oh good, well, everyone you know Brody's beating him up.
- 35:23Speaker 3: So Rick still has that.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Questions?
- 35:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that was my bonus.
- 35:34Speaker 5: Honest came in here thinking everyone was gonna get every
- 35:37Speaker 5: question right.
- 35:39Speaker 3: I think I have two questions right. That's brutal.
- 35:41Speaker 2: No, I think brutal brutal. Does everyone have an answer?
- 35:46Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Brodie with Quebec, Tresta Alberta,
- 35:51Speaker 2: Rick Newfoundland, Randall Newfoundland, Hansei Newfoundland, Max Newfoundland. Spencer with
- 35:57Speaker 2: Nova Scotia. We do not have have a correct answer
- 36:01Speaker 2: in the room. The answer is New Brunswick, Brunswick STUW.
- 36:06Speaker 2: New Brunswick is one of the three maritime provinces, the
- 36:09Speaker 2: other two being Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Spencer,
- 36:13Speaker 2: You're probably the closest. It is bordered by Quebec to
- 36:17Speaker 2: the north, Nova Scotia to the east, Gulf of St.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Lawrence to the northeast, and Bay of Fundi to the southeast.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Hunting opportunities include moose Bay or whitetailed dear turkey, as
- 36:26Speaker 2: well as waterfowl. I was quite surprised to hear that
- 36:30Speaker 2: they pretty much have the.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Gamut ignorant American No no idea.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Phil. That was question eight, So that brings us up
- 36:40Speaker 2: to another score update. Please not much has changed.
- 36:42Speaker 8: No, it's correct. If we have to say goodbye to Tresa,
- 36:46Speaker 8: Max and Hansei. Technically Randall is still in the game
- 36:51Speaker 8: with two points. We've got Brody and Rick with three,
- 36:54Speaker 8: and Spencer Newharth is in first place with four points.
- 37:00Speaker 2: I don't like this position, you know, And I forgot
- 37:04Speaker 2: to mention up top I should have had it in
- 37:06Speaker 2: the intro is that you guys will just have to
- 37:09Speaker 2: trust Spencer and myself that I did not did not
- 37:13Speaker 2: let him read this script whatsoever. No, because he'd have
- 37:16Speaker 2: like seven right, Spencer.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Smarter than that.
- 37:23Speaker 2: If I were cheating.
- 37:24Speaker 7: If I were cheating, I make sure that I was
- 37:26Speaker 7: two questions ahead with two questions left.
- 37:29Speaker 10: That's exactly how well then you know I'm not cheating.
- 37:35Speaker 10: I'm just think, to me, this is.
- 37:40Speaker 2: My favorite question of the day here of the game.
- 37:45Speaker 2: It is cooking, and I'm gonna be just extremely impressed
- 37:51Speaker 2: if anyone can get this one, because I would not
- 37:54Speaker 2: have gotten it. When butchering an animal. What is the
- 37:57Speaker 2: process of removing the trachia and esophagus called?
- 38:06Speaker 4: Can I leave.
- 38:09Speaker 2: No answers, no scribbling. Brody at least looks like he's
- 38:15Speaker 2: thinking that there might be something in there again. When
- 38:22Speaker 2: butchering an animal, what is the process of removing the
- 38:25Speaker 2: trachia and esophagus called? Max has gone to checking Google
- 38:34Speaker 2: on his phone.
- 38:35Speaker 4: No, I'm working.
- 38:37Speaker 2: I'm kidding. It's just my favorite because I was just
- 38:45Speaker 2: so excited to learn about this last week.
- 38:51Speaker 4: Oh when you did your sheep correct.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Mm so if you attended Yanni's butcher school, you would
- 38:58Speaker 1: know this one, you would, okay.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Mm hmmm okay, whether that would be It be interesting
- 39:03Speaker 2: to see if any of those children or retained that
- 39:09Speaker 2: information that I gave them. All Right, everybody that does
- 39:13Speaker 2: have an answer or is gonna have one. You guys ready, Max,
- 39:17Speaker 2: that's good, go ahead and reveal your answers. Brody's going
- 39:20Speaker 2: with plumb tressa no answer, Rick Road housing is Randall neckcotomy,
- 39:29Speaker 2: Hansei tracheotomy, Max dethroating, Spencer throat bottomy.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I like Han's answer.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's definitely the closest. The answer is weezending.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Wow.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Webster's Dictionary defines weazened as throat gullet, also trachia. Removing
- 39:48Speaker 2: the trachia and esophagus is thus weezending. I learned this
- 39:51Speaker 2: the other day from meat Eater contributor and Borgmann after
- 39:54Speaker 2: she weazeneded a domestic you that I used for a
- 39:57Speaker 2: field dressing demonstration and an outdoors skills camp held at
- 40:01Speaker 2: the Jack Creek Preserve. Awesome location, awesome staff. For more
- 40:05Speaker 2: info on their camps and other activities, check out Jack

- 40:37Speaker 1: Content's great.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Are you guys happy that you now know the word
- 40:41Speaker 2: weazened and weazened it?
- 40:42Speaker 5: I can't do some weasing this fall.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I already forgot it by the time.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Five minutes ago.
- 40:51Speaker 2: I thought that someone might say, well, why would you reason? Right? Well,
- 40:57Speaker 2: y would you? Well? The esophagus, right, I can have
- 41:02Speaker 2: a lot of bacteria in there because of the food
- 41:05Speaker 2: that's still sitting there, right, and so the way she did.
- 41:07Speaker 2: She basically cut the throat and was able to access that,
- 41:10Speaker 2: pulled the esophagus out, tied a knot in it, and
- 41:13Speaker 2: sort of reamed it as though you were going to
- 41:16Speaker 2: ream the anus preparing to field dress it. Right. And
- 41:19Speaker 2: then when later when I gutted it was and I
- 41:22Speaker 2: just pulled, you know, I grabbed it and the esophaus
- 41:25Speaker 2: strake and pulled the hearts and long and everything out.
- 41:27Speaker 2: It also came right on out of the animal.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Now, Anna has creative uses for like every bit of
- 41:32Speaker 1: a ful in a critter. Is there anything that she
- 41:35Speaker 1: can do with the esophagus and trachea?
- 41:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I haven't heard about it.
- 41:43Speaker 5: I Spencer, your head's full of stats. What's the lowest
- 41:45Speaker 5: score to ever win this game?
- 41:47Speaker 2: We've had?
- 41:47Speaker 1: I think it was like the second or third episode
- 41:49Speaker 1: we had a four. We've had a few fives and
- 41:53Speaker 1: six is, but for like the last year, I tried
- 41:56Speaker 1: to keep it above six.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Hear that you honest?
- 41:58Speaker 2: Yes, yes, well that it seems like that's gonna be
- 42:01Speaker 2: the biggest feedback, Phil, Can you give us another score
- 42:05Speaker 2: update with one question left?
- 42:08Speaker 8: Yeah, it is down to Spencer, Rick and Brody Spencer
- 42:11Speaker 8: still has his four and Rick and Brody have three points.
- 42:14Speaker 4: Come back.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I believe we're gonna have some correct answers this one.
- 42:19Speaker 2: It's gonna get interesting. I think you might be a
- 42:22Speaker 2: little too optimistic. Yeah. Question ten is hunting. In the
- 42:29Speaker 2: nineteen seventy two movie Jeremiah Johnson, Jeremiah finds a frozen
- 42:34Speaker 2: mountain man. The mountain man had written a note which
- 42:38Speaker 2: is now frozen to his chest. Quote, I Giannis Potellus,
- 42:43Speaker 2: being a sound mind and broke legs, do leaveth my
- 42:46Speaker 2: bear rifle to whatever finds it. Later he added, it
- 42:50Speaker 2: is a good rifle, and kilt the bear that killed me. Anyway,
- 42:54Speaker 2: I am dead yours truly? What is this mountain man's name?
- 43:00Speaker 1: You know this one? Brody?
- 43:01Speaker 6: Uh?
- 43:01Speaker 2: Oh, I think I do. Rick Man. I I'm not
- 43:06Speaker 2: gonna say rand He's gonna be real mad at you
- 43:10Speaker 2: if you don't. Yeah. I'm a little surprised Randall, because
- 43:14Speaker 2: you're kind of a movie guy too, right.
- 43:17Speaker 5: I don't know that I'm a movie Do you know
- 43:18Speaker 5: what Randall's been working on lately?
- 43:20Speaker 2: No book about mountain man? No, No, you might have
- 43:26Speaker 2: to tell me that this is a fictional mountain man,
- 43:28Speaker 2: not even though.
- 43:30Speaker 3: I if I think about this for a while, I could.
- 43:33Speaker 3: I think I could come up with it.
- 43:35Speaker 2: But like thirty seconds or thirty hours.
- 43:38Speaker 7: Oh no, I'm just not working at it because I've
- 43:41Speaker 7: already lost and I'm a sore loser.
- 43:49Speaker 3: It's gonna delight me when I hear the right answer,
- 43:51Speaker 3: though I don't say I knew it.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I knew it, so we're going overtime, I think.
- 43:55Speaker 5: I mean, look, I could be okay, I could be
- 43:58Speaker 5: way over confident and end up looking like a jackass.
- 44:00Speaker 3: I knew I was confident.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Rick's answer, Please reveal your answers. Brody hatchet Jack Testa
- 44:12Speaker 2: no answer, Rick, hatchet Jack, Randall, no answer, Hansei Max
- 44:17Speaker 2: question Mark, Spencer Herman. The correct answer is hatchet Jack.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Later in the movie, Jeremiah runs into del Juw and
- 44:28Speaker 2: Dell ass of the rifle. Ain't that hatchet Jack's rifle?
- 44:31Speaker 2: Jeremiah response, yep. Dell asked, how did you get it?
- 44:34Speaker 2: Jeremiah says, found him frozen to a tree. Del lads, damn.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Hatchet Jack was a wild one. He was living two
- 44:41Speaker 2: years up in a cave on the Muscleshell with a
- 44:44Speaker 2: female panther. She never did get used to him. So
- 44:50Speaker 2: do we have a winner? Fill are we going to We're.
- 44:51Speaker 8: Going to a three way tieynes Brody Rick and Spencer.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Ty tremendous.
- 45:01Speaker 8: I think just cut it at if you ain't first
- 45:03Speaker 8: your laughs and then like going to other stuff.
- 45:06Speaker 1: It's funny. I never liked it.
- 45:08Speaker 4: They fell off, man, It never gets old.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Never do people like, do we know this? Is this
- 45:15Speaker 2: the stat we've come up with. Do people like when
- 45:17Speaker 2: episodes go to tiebreakers?
- 45:19Speaker 1: Absolutely? Mostly? I think, well when it makes it a
- 45:22Speaker 1: little more entertaining to a lot of folks play within
- 45:24Speaker 1: a group, like their family or their coworkers or whatever,
- 45:28Speaker 1: and they'll often end in a tie and then have
- 45:30Speaker 1: no way to break that tie. So it's been requested
- 45:33Speaker 1: that I have a tiebreaker every episode for that instance.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I can't come up with that many good numerical tiebreakers,
- 45:38Speaker 1: so they're just gonna have to settle for having tiebreakers.
- 45:41Speaker 1: When we have tiebreakers, what did.
- 45:43Speaker 2: You do for the game?
- 45:43Speaker 5: You just like like a block of tiebreaker cards.
- 45:45Speaker 1: There are fifty cards that are tiebreaker cards that are
- 45:49Speaker 1: just like ours where they are numerical.
- 45:52Speaker 4: This question is probably have to do something with geography.
- 45:58Speaker 2: A good tiebreaker because I don't have a backup tie
- 46:02Speaker 2: break question, so hopefully we won't have another. So it's
- 46:07Speaker 2: three way with Rick, Spencer and Brody. Is that correct? Correct?
- 46:11Speaker 2: All right?
- 46:12Speaker 3: But everybody should play along.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Extra donation if somebody gets a dead nuts.
- 46:20Speaker 2: All right, and I believe you possibly could. This great
- 46:25Speaker 2: question was given to me by me Eiter Managing editor
- 46:28Speaker 2: Jordan Sillers. A grain is an obscure unit of measurement
- 46:35Speaker 2: still used to weigh bullets and powder charges? How many
- 46:40Speaker 2: grains are in one pound?
- 46:46Speaker 8: Sorry, I don't have this question on the slide, so
- 46:49Speaker 8: you just have to look at this lovely logo that
- 46:51Speaker 8: Hunter Spencer created.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Love that logo Hunter again. The question is a grain
- 47:00Speaker 2: is an obscure, obscure unit of measurement, still used to
- 47:04Speaker 2: weigh bullets and powder charges. How many grains are in
- 47:08Speaker 2: one pound?
- 47:11Speaker 4: Broody really wants to win.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I just don't want to look like a fool.
- 47:20Speaker 4: You don't have to worry about that because I have
- 47:22Speaker 4: that handle.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Oh, I've got a way of figuring this one out.
- 47:26Speaker 4: A square plus B squared you can see squared.
- 47:29Speaker 1: No.
- 47:31Speaker 2: When I asked this question to a group of botanists,
- 47:34Speaker 2: the other day, somehow somebody knew how many grains there
- 47:39Speaker 2: were in another measurement and thus got to the correct answer.
- 47:49Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Nobody's super confident. I'm getting the bombers.
- 47:55Speaker 6: I knew this at one point. I remember reading it
- 47:58Speaker 6: and knowing and like talking to people about it, and
- 48:01Speaker 6: it was so long ago, though, I can't.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Maybe I got close.
- 48:05Speaker 1: But it's tough.
- 48:06Speaker 6: One grain is so obscure. Yeah, you never and you
- 48:11Speaker 6: don't compare it no way.
- 48:14Speaker 5: You said one pound, right?
- 48:16Speaker 2: Correct?
- 48:17Speaker 4: How many grains are in one pound, which is sixteen ounces?
- 48:22Speaker 2: That's correct?
- 48:23Speaker 1: Easy. I'd like to win this. Max.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Do you feel confidence? Spencer? Okay?
- 48:31Speaker 1: Max close? Oh, I don't know. I have no idea.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Ricky got an answer, Spencer's got an answer. Brody, do
- 48:36Speaker 2: you have your final answer?
- 48:40Speaker 1: I'm more worried about Rick than Brody.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Sure, all right, folks, go ahead and reveal your answers
- 48:48Speaker 2: for the tiebreaker. Tresa coming in at two thousand and
- 48:51Speaker 2: thirty seven, Randall seven eight hundred, Hanzi three thousand, Max
- 48:56Speaker 2: two thousand and seven hundred, Brody sixteen hundred, Rick seven hundred,
- 49:01Speaker 2: Spencer two thousand and one. The correct answer is seven thousand,
- 49:07Speaker 2: making Stenser winner. Yes, nice work on your wowful thank you.
- 49:14Speaker 2: It's washed over me.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Now I'm no longer nervous.
- 49:17Speaker 2: You should.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Now I feel like I can enjoy it. After recording
- 49:20Speaker 1: for forty minutes. Up until now, Yanni, I was almost
- 49:23Speaker 1: not enjoying it. This is great.
- 49:25Speaker 2: We might have to go have a celebratory beer after
- 49:28Speaker 2: this together. Because I survived hosting the first episode, you
- 49:32Speaker 2: somehow come in and win.
- 49:33Speaker 1: You know what, winning is fun. This is more than
- 49:38Speaker 1: I enjoyed winning, more than I did hosting.
- 49:41Speaker 8: Despy Randall trying to sabotage the whole game by loosening
- 49:44Speaker 8: a pipe somewhere.
- 49:45Speaker 2: In the Yeah, at this point, you might have to
- 49:48Speaker 2: the rest of the crew just want to invite me back,
- 49:50Speaker 2: just so that I can give you a loss, so
- 49:53Speaker 2: that you know what it feels like to be on
- 49:54Speaker 2: both sides of the coin.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Maybe maybe Rick, Rick, if I was you, I just
- 49:57Speaker 1: said I forgot one zero.
- 49:59Speaker 6: I was just like, man, it was one zero off. Yeah,
- 50:01Speaker 6: the seven hundred in my mind, So I was just
- 50:03Speaker 6: one zero off from beating you.
- 50:05Speaker 2: No, we would tie. No, yeah, no, you were actually
- 50:09Speaker 2: the closest.
- 50:10Speaker 7: Yeah, and I started. My first guest was seventy two hundred.
- 50:14Speaker 7: I was going off of how many I've got a
- 50:18Speaker 7: three hundred wind mag load of h one thousand, and
- 50:21Speaker 7: I was thinking of how many cases I can fill
- 50:23Speaker 7: up with a pound of powder.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Oh, there you go, you got close. Encyclopedia Britannica explains
- 50:29Speaker 2: that a grain is one of the earliest units of
- 50:32Speaker 2: common measure and the smallest. The ancient grain was defined
- 50:36Speaker 2: as the weight of a designated number of dry wheat
- 50:39Speaker 2: kernels taken from the middle of the ear. It was
- 50:43Speaker 2: also used as the original basis for the medieval English inch,
- 50:47Speaker 2: which was defined as the length of three medium sized
- 50:50Speaker 2: barley corns placed end to end. That's all a bit confusing,
- 50:53Speaker 2: So I checked Webster's too, and they say a unit
- 50:57Speaker 2: of weight based on the weight of a grain of
- 50:59Speaker 2: wheat as an average of the weight of grains from
- 51:02Speaker 2: the middle of the ear. So I hope that that
- 51:04Speaker 2: is as clear as mud. If you're wondering how the
- 51:07Speaker 2: weight of a grain came about. Thank you all for playing.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Join us next time. Were you prepared for this?
- 51:22Speaker 1: You know what? I I've thought about this in case
- 51:24Speaker 1: somebody when we were playing in my head, right, they'd
- 51:27Speaker 1: be like spencer. You always host. You never get to choose,
- 51:30Speaker 1: so you know, I'm gonna let you give the donation
- 51:33Speaker 1: this time. It hasn't happened, Brody, but I've expected.
- 51:37Speaker 8: Now.
- 51:38Speaker 1: I think one of the organizations I benefited from the
- 51:42Speaker 1: most of my lifetime is Pheasants Forever. I'm not a
- 51:45Speaker 1: huge pheasant hunter, but growing up in South Dakota, I
- 51:47Speaker 1: was surrounded by CRP and cr e P, which people
- 51:51Speaker 1: call CREP. Most folks think of it as like a
- 51:54Speaker 1: singular upland hunting area south of cast It also makes
- 51:57Speaker 1: phenomenal habitat for big white tail bucks that I'd like
- 52:00Speaker 1: to hunt. A lot of them have water in it,
- 52:02Speaker 1: are great for duck hunting. So we're gonna do Pheasants Forever.
- 52:07Speaker 1: That's right.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Everybody loves c RPM. I mean, come on, that's right,
- 52:11Speaker 2: all right, So five hundred bucks the Pheasants Forever.
- 52:14Speaker 1: A little little tip obviously, you know that these were
- 52:17Speaker 1: hard questions, and this is good for our listeners to
- 52:19Speaker 1: who like to write in the number one feedback I
- 52:22Speaker 1: would have to them is their questions are too hard.
- 52:24Speaker 1: People would like to write in and ask, like what
- 52:26Speaker 1: is the highest mountain in Tennessee? Or things like that
- 52:32Speaker 1: that are very obscure and it's hard for somebody to
- 52:36Speaker 1: come to getting the right answer unless they were like
- 52:39Speaker 1: very local to this thing. Sure, So that's that's a
- 52:41Speaker 1: tip for our listeners. Make them a little bit easier,
- 52:43Speaker 1: and it's easier for me to then make them harder
- 52:46Speaker 1: than it is for me to create a good question
- 52:49Speaker 1: out of something that's already super difficult.
- 52:54Speaker 2: You we'll do it again, super fun. Thank you. It
- 53:00Speaker 2: has a little work.
- 53:01Speaker 5: To do, but you did great.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Don't let Brodie bring you down. So please join us
- 53:06Speaker 2: next time for more Meat Eater Trivia, the only game
- 53:09Speaker 2: show where conservation always wins day great thanks Max. I
- 53:18Speaker 2: wish I could say the same.
