- 1:04Oscar Navarro: And so a quiet life is discipling, it is engaging, it is participating, it is loving and caring to communicate and to disciple, and to lead and to direct, but it doesn't invite us into not our business.
- 1:18Oscar Navarro: I would say, things outside of that immediate category is not our business.
- 1:23Oscar Navarro: And as soon as we step into the not our business of the world, you know what it does.
- 1:27Oscar Navarro: It just leads us to anxiousness and uncertainty because we're not created to bear the burdens of celebrities and politicians.
- 1:36Oscar Navarro: You know what I mean.
- 1:37Oscar Navarro: God did not create the world for us to be all knowing.
- 1:40Oscar Navarro: The way our phones make us almost all knowing of media and information and all of that right now news cycle, it just builds up anxiety in our lives rather than unplugging and focusing a quiet life on the three things that are around me my family, my church and my neighbors.
- 2:00Mark Spence: I wrote that down.
- 2:07Emeal Zwayne: In the grip of my father's grace.
- 2:09Ray Comfort: Oh no, no, stop everything.
- 2:10Oscar Navarro: Gazing at my father's face.
- 2:11Oscar Navarro: Stop everything.
- 2:13Ray Comfort: That is just terrible.
- 2:15Ray Comfort: In the sweetness of his embrace no.
- 2:18Oscar Navarro: What is this nonsense?
- 2:19Ray Comfort: Living in sync With my father's pace.
- 2:23Ray Comfort: Sitting in the grip of my Nausea.
- 2:26Ray Comfort: Oh, oh Ray.
- 2:28Emeal Zwayne: Okay.
- 2:29Ray Comfort: That is the Easy.
- 2:30Ray Comfort: Wrote that song and both my Daughter, rachel, who he this goes back about 20, 25 years and we said no, that is an awful song.
- 2:37Ray Comfort: Please never sing it again and you won't stop.
- 2:40Emeal Zwayne: I haven't heard it for a while.
- 2:41Emeal Zwayne: I know Saturday.
- 2:42Emeal Zwayne: Well, yeah, it came up.
- 2:43Emeal Zwayne: I think Rachel said it was going through her mind.
- 2:46Ray Comfort: Yeah, she was feeling sick, poor woman.
- 2:48Emeal Zwayne: Only brilliant songs go through people's minds, right?
- 2:51Emeal Zwayne: I was very deeply offended Good, I thought I remember when I came up with that tune.
- 2:56Emeal Zwayne: I'm like Ray's going to love this.
- 2:57Emeal Zwayne: No, I didn't you should.
- 3:00Ray Comfort: No, God's endued me with just a little discernment.
- 3:02Ray Comfort: That's where it's at.
- 3:04Mark Spence: I don't remember which child of mine said it, but they said boy Easy actually has a really good voice.
- 3:09Emeal Zwayne: Your best child.
- 3:10Emeal Zwayne: I didn't know that.
- 3:10Emeal Zwayne: Your wisest child.
- 3:12Ray Comfort: That's the Jeff one, isn't it?
- 3:12Ray Comfort: Yeah, I don't know which one it was.
- 3:15Ray Comfort: Easy actually is very talented musically.
- 3:17Ray Comfort: But that one is terrible.
- 3:19Oscar Navarro: You almost said abomination, yes.
- 3:22Emeal Zwayne: Okay, this is a song I wrote for Rachel.
- 3:25Ray Comfort: That's nice.
- 3:35Emeal Zwayne: It's a top 10 today.
- 3:35Emeal Zwayne: We're playing all right, here goes because there's so much we've been through, but there's nothing I would not do.
- 3:40Emeal Zwayne: If only I can have just just one more moment with you one more in your mind.
- 3:49Oscar Navarro: Do you think like that's a banger?
- 3:52Mark Spence: That's like.
- 3:53Mark Spence: Billboard Top 100.
- 3:55Ray Comfort: Easy.
- 3:55Ray Comfort: You were singing that with your eyes closed.
- 3:58Ray Comfort: I thought it would be great if the three of us just left the studio.
- 4:02Emeal Zwayne: Oscar, there are some things that are just objectively good.
- 4:07Ray Comfort: That wasn't one of them.
- 4:08Ray Comfort: That's one of them.
- 4:11Emeal Zwayne: You guys ever make up songs for your family?
- 4:12Mark Spence: Yeah, I do.
- 4:13Mark Spence: I did this morning for Laura.
- 4:15Mark Spence: I mean, I put together a little verse for her to think through, really Like a song.
- 4:20Emeal Zwayne: Yeah.
- 4:20Mark Spence: I'm not going to do it, but yeah, it was a little quick lyrics.
- 4:24Oscar Navarro: I sing to my kids and my wife all the time.
- 4:26Ray Comfort: I don't know that one, but I don't think it's good.
- 4:29Emeal Zwayne: Spontaneous yeah, I sing to my dogs, do you?
- 4:34Ray Comfort: No, you think I'm crazy.
- 4:37Emeal Zwayne: Lucy, lucy, I love you Lucy.
- 4:39Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you know it's crazy man Singing is, yes, it is yes, I know what you're saying.
- 4:46Ray Comfort: It's crazy, but it has laws involved in music.
- 4:48Ray Comfort: There's music that's good and there's music that's bad.
- 4:53Emeal Zwayne: No, but it's amazing how music can just fully impact your mood too.
- 5:00Ray Comfort: Yes, you know.
- 5:01Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, yeah, like Ray, you always talk about that, especially with like Beatles songs.
- 5:06Emeal Zwayne: Nostalgia just takes you back, but it's good nostalgia.
- 5:09Ray Comfort: It makes me feel so good instantly.
- 5:11Ray Comfort: I'm not talking about the drug-soaked songs they got into later in the stage, but the early ones.
- 5:16Ray Comfort: Instant, just great memories come flooding back.
- 5:20Ray Comfort: I just love it.
- 5:21Emeal Zwayne: Because it's associated with things you were doing as a kid.
- 5:23Ray Comfort: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was a little brat.
- 5:29Oscar Navarro: I was reading a book recently that was somebody who got his doctorate.
- 5:32Oscar Navarro: It was like their dissertation, and the point that they made in it is that both mathematics and music is an objective witness to the glory of God.
- 5:42Oscar Navarro: And so he pointed out that, like in advanced mathematics, people who are theorizing mathematicians, that they don't come up with the laws, but rather they discover them, as though they were, like they're ready to be discovered, like the hand of God is holding all mathematics together.
- 6:01Oscar Navarro: And then he associated that with music and that music is rooted in mathematics and how, ultimately, music and math like sing to the presence and the glory of God.
- 6:11Oscar Navarro: It was really fascinating.
- 6:11Ray Comfort: Has anyone ever combined the two?
- 6:13Ray Comfort: Go easy.
- 6:15Emeal Zwayne: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve times forty divided by nine, I don't know, Music and math.
- 6:23Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, it is, it's mathematical, it's, you know, especially like two forms of music that I don't listen to, actually, but that I really do love when I do classical.
- 6:38Emeal Zwayne: And what do you call the Frank Sinatra kind of music?
- 6:42Emeal Zwayne: Does it have a?
- 6:43Ray Comfort: Frank Sinatra music.
- 6:44Ray Comfort: Frank Sinatra yeah, I know what you're saying yes.
- 6:46Ray Comfort: There's a cabaret.
- 6:47Ray Comfort: Is it cabaret?
- 6:47Ray Comfort: Yeah, I know what you're saying.
- 6:48Ray Comfort: Yes, there's a cabaret.
- 6:48Ray Comfort: Is it a cabaret?
- 6:50Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, I don't know, but every time it comes on like I realize how so lyrically impoverished today's music is.
- 6:59Emeal Zwayne: Seriously, I mean even like I did it my way, I was going to say that Right yeah, not as one who bows the knee.
- 7:08Ray Comfort: it says in the middle of that.
- 7:10Emeal Zwayne: Did you realize that?
- 7:10Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, is that crooner, yeah, yeah, so again, not that I, you know, endorse the.
- 7:14Emeal Zwayne: The lyrics in that song but but I'm saying like, yeah, just the, even the, the lyrical or the rhyme scheme in there, it's, it's quality we could change it to a drive on the highway.
- 7:24Emeal Zwayne: But then you, you know they just.
- 7:27Emeal Zwayne: But today it's just stupidity.
- 7:31Emeal Zwayne: And even with rap.
- 7:32Emeal Zwayne: I don't know you guys don't listen to rap, but I hear some.
- 7:35Ray Comfort: No, we do listen to rap.
- 7:36Ray Comfort: You have no choice.
- 7:36Ray Comfort: Not only that, but you pull up at some stop sign.
- 7:40Ray Comfort: There's a guy with a rap that makes your whole car shake.
- 7:43Emeal Zwayne: That's true, I know, but now, even nowadays, it's not just that like lyrically, things have degenerated, but the way they sing, the voice, the yeah, I'll do this, that and yeah, more and yeah, man.
- 8:01Ray Comfort: Hey, you're improving easy.
- 8:02Ray Comfort: You like that, Mark?
- 8:04Emeal Zwayne: That was better than normal, that was great.
- 8:06Emeal Zwayne: But seriously, man, yeah, yeah, just the you know, the evidence that we're degenerating.
- 8:12Ray Comfort: In every way.
- 8:13Emeal Zwayne: Oscar, you're thinking deeply with your fingers upon your lips.
- 8:15Oscar Navarro: I was thinking about Yo-Yo Ma's cello suite one in G minor.
- 8:21Oscar Navarro: It's like one of the most beautiful pieces of music you can ever listen to.
- 8:25Oscar Navarro: If you haven't heard it, you can go online and listen to him.
- 8:27Oscar Navarro: When I listen to it, it breaks out Is this old?
- 8:31Oscar Navarro: Well, it's Bach's song, but Yo-Yo Ma redid it in the cello and it's phenomenal.
- 8:39Ray Comfort: I named my dog after Bach.
- 8:42Oscar Navarro: He talks about Bach all the time Bach.
- 8:48Emeal Zwayne: I don't know what.
- 8:48Emeal Zwayne: They call them concertos or um symphony, I don't know.
- 8:52Emeal Zwayne: But these, what's wrong with my voice today?
- 8:55Emeal Zwayne: You're barely noticing hey, but like these things are long, you know, and they play these long pieces and we see these little kids like four, five, six and they're getting on there.
- 9:08Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, what a, what injustice to do a theme to united airlines?
- 9:18Ray Comfort: have you ever heard?
- 9:19Emeal Zwayne: that almost sounded like it, yeah it is.
- 9:22Ray Comfort: yeah, it's a beautiful, very famous song from about 60 70 years ago, but that's just so complex.
- 9:28Ray Comfort: I saw a guy play it without music once.
- 9:31Ray Comfort: It's like nine minutes long Play it without music.
- 9:33Ray Comfort: He didn't have music in front of him, he just played it.
- 9:35Ray Comfort: Oh, no music, I just couldn't believe my eyes he could remember where every finger goes, because just one wrong move and boom.
- 9:42Ray Comfort: I know.
- 9:44Mark Spence: You know, all my kids are into jazz music Really yeah, typically, if you get inside of their car or they drive my car, they change it to jazz.
- 9:53Emeal Zwayne: I love jazz music.
- 9:54Emeal Zwayne: Jazz is groovy.
- 9:55Emeal Zwayne: The saxophone right, mainly in jazz.
- 9:57Emeal Zwayne: I don't know.
- 9:58Emeal Zwayne: I love that.
- 9:58Emeal Zwayne: I always wanted to learn the sax.
- 10:01Emeal Zwayne: That was my dream, good for open ear?
- 10:04Mark Spence: Nope, that's not it.
- 10:06Mark Spence: Ray loves the bagpipes.
- 10:06Mark Spence: What was that?
- 10:07Mark Spence: That was something terrible.
- 10:09Ray Comfort: It was, yeah, I like having Todd Friel absolutely hates bagpipes.
- 10:14Emeal Zwayne: Oh, me too.
- 10:15Emeal Zwayne: It is, in my opinion, the worst instrument on the planet.
- 10:18Ray Comfort: No, it just reminds me of my chickens when you grab them and squeeze really hard.
- 10:21Ray Comfort: Exactly, it's just yeah.
- 10:23Ray Comfort: But Amazing Grace, she does Amazing Grace with the bagpipes.
- 10:26Ray Comfort: Yeah, soul stirring, yeah, we'll give them a pass on that one.
- 10:29Emeal Zwayne: All right, friends, a cool, classy comment.
- 10:32Ray Comfort: They used them in warfare.
- 10:33Ray Comfort: The bagpipes would go first.
- 10:35Emeal Zwayne: That's all they needed, yeah, the enemy ran, forget weapons, use the bagpipes.
- 10:41Emeal Zwayne: So yeah, cool, classy comments.
- 10:43Emeal Zwayne: All right, friends, this is what I call Vindication Day.
- 10:48Emeal Zwayne: Oh dear.
- 10:49Ray Comfort: Oh boy.
- 10:50Emeal Zwayne: Vindication Day.
- 10:50Emeal Zwayne: You guys remember, a while ago I brought up the beauty and the genius of cursive writing.
- 10:56Emeal Zwayne: Someone wrote yeah, mark Spence mocked it.
- 11:00Emeal Zwayne: Nobody does cursive writing.
- 11:01Emeal Zwayne: And we said I don't mock it, I think it's beautiful.
- 11:03Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:04Emeal Zwayne: But you said it's just dumb?
- 11:05Emeal Zwayne: Nobody, it's just dumb.
- 11:05Oscar Navarro: Nobody should use it.
- 11:06Oscar Navarro: It's not utilitarian.
- 11:07Emeal Zwayne: And you said you bet nobody listening to us even uses cursive.
- 11:10Emeal Zwayne: So we got some comments.
- 11:12Emeal Zwayne: This is from John Wall from Ontario.
- 11:16Emeal Zwayne: He said never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Easy.
- 11:19Emeal Zwayne: I also like cursive writing.
- 11:21Emeal Zwayne: Lita Kluswitz Hi, I am with Easy.
- 11:25Emeal Zwayne: Cursive is where it's at.

- 11:44Emeal Zwayne: Colleen Q, my husband and I write in cursive and print it's beautiful for writing in cards.
- 11:48Emeal Zwayne: I learned calligraphy and italics as a kid.

- 11:56Emeal Zwayne: I've been listening to your podcast for years.
- 11:58Emeal Zwayne: I've wanted to write in many times but finally the greatest motivation set in the need to defend cursive.
- 12:03Emeal Zwayne: I'm with Easy and I super.
- 12:05Emeal Zwayne: I sure hope you get more than five emails attesting I'm against cursing this was sex email it's not.
- 12:12Ray Comfort: It's not cursing.
- 12:13Ray Comfort: How's your dyslexia?
- 12:14Ray Comfort: My sins have found me out someone sent a letter to you, easy and cursive, and I tossed it so, alexandra, yeah, what I said, what someone sent a letter in cursive saying they love cursive and I didn't pass it on to you.
- 12:26Emeal Zwayne: My sins of wait, you're serious, I'm serious.

- 12:39Oscar Navarro: You were ashamed, right?
- 12:41Oscar Navarro: There's a cursive letter on my desk right now.
- 12:50Oscar Navarro: Sue probably put it there.
- 12:51Ray Comfort: Oh, that'll get passed on easy in a couple months.
- 12:52Ray Comfort: I've had it for like four days.
- 12:52Ray Comfort: I haven't been able to get through it.
- 12:54Emeal Zwayne: He's trying to think of the word deer at the beginning.
- 12:56Emeal Zwayne: Anyhow, thank you, friends, for standing with me for righteousness.

- 13:57Emeal Zwayne: It's the new living waters mug which says on it.
- 14:00Emeal Zwayne: Oh, I love it, man.
- 14:06Emeal Zwayne: I have had people say to me they do that now with each other yeah yeah it's an epidemic.
- 14:11Oscar Navarro: Yeah, that is epidemic.
- 14:14Emeal Zwayne: All right, friends, on to today's show.
- 14:18Emeal Zwayne: We're going to be talking about how to mind your own business.
- 14:21Emeal Zwayne: I did that for nine years.
- 14:23Emeal Zwayne: Let people be you minded.
- 14:24Emeal Zwayne: Oh yeah, I'm minding my own business.
- 14:26Emeal Zwayne: Ray, my ob, what?
- 14:30Ray Comfort: yeah I think that's.
- 14:31Ray Comfort: That's internationally famous, isn't it?
- 14:33Ray Comfort: It Myop, yeah, mind your own business.
- 14:35Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you used to say that to your kids, myop, who did you I?
- 14:38Ray Comfort: did.
- 14:39Ray Comfort: Yeah, rachel's got a lot of scars, hasn't she Myop?
- 14:44Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, mind your own business.
- 14:50Emeal Zwayne: Yesterday, rachel and I were chatting and I just said you know, honestly, I just want to mind my own business.
- 15:01Emeal Zwayne: I'm reading a book and I loved the title for this chapter.
- 15:02Emeal Zwayne: It was so simple, but it was this aren't you tired yet?
- 15:07Emeal Zwayne: And it was just basically, you know, talking about trying to figure everything out and keep up on what's going on in people's lives, and it just resonated with me.
- 15:18Emeal Zwayne: There's something about constantly getting worked up about what's happening in other people's lives.
- 15:27Emeal Zwayne: Talking about it.
- 15:29Ray Comfort: Do you want me to take the binoculars back?
- 15:32Emeal Zwayne: No, that's important.
- 15:34Oscar Navarro: You need to stop wiretapping everyone's phones.
- 15:36Oscar Navarro: That's the problem, EZ.
- 15:38Emeal Zwayne: But you guys remember, like those.
- 15:39Emeal Zwayne: I remember one of those.
- 15:40Emeal Zwayne: What do you call it Matching?
- 15:44Emeal Zwayne: Memory improving?
- 15:44Emeal Zwayne: I know you, Ray, that's exactly right.
- 15:47Ray Comfort: Of course, I thought how can I change it?
- 15:49Emeal Zwayne: Little House on the Prairie and when Mrs Olsen, they got phones finally in the town and Mrs Olsen was like the switchboard lady.
- 15:56Emeal Zwayne: She was the gossip and she was listening to people's calls.
- 16:00Emeal Zwayne: It was really funny, because then they ended up colluding to pretend they were talking about something and then like to get her worked up.
- 16:11Emeal Zwayne: Was she the one with the nice daughter?
- 16:12Emeal Zwayne: The nasty daughter?
- 16:14Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, was.
- 16:15Oscar Navarro: Little House on the prairie a tv show or a movie tv show you serious.
- 16:18Emeal Zwayne: You didn't know.
- 16:19Emeal Zwayne: No, wait, wait, have you heard of?
- 16:20Oscar Navarro: bonanza.
- 16:21Oscar Navarro: I've heard you guys.
- 16:21Oscar Navarro: I love bonanza.
- 16:22Oscar Navarro: You guys mentioned little house.
- 16:24Ray Comfort: Wait, wait, hold on it's like bonanza without the cowboys are we just gonna pretend like everyone?
- 16:28Emeal Zwayne: knows what that is.
- 16:28Emeal Zwayne: Oscar, you seriously never watched the house on the prairie?
- 16:32Oscar Navarro: How would I watch it Reruns?
- 16:34Oscar Navarro: Do they even sell black and white televisions anymore?
- 16:36Ray Comfort: Reruns it was before television.
- 16:39Emeal Zwayne: Even when you were a kid, though there should have been reruns going, they've been going forever.
- 16:43Emeal Zwayne: Is it before or after?
- 16:44Emeal Zwayne: I Love Lucy After.
- 16:47Ray Comfort: It was.
- 16:48Emeal Zwayne: The old 70s.
- 16:48Emeal Zwayne: I think they started in the 70s Into the 80s Early 80s.
- 16:53Ray Comfort: Have you heard of Michael Landon?
- 16:54Ray Comfort: Yes, you have, so you're familiar with Bonanza.
- 16:57Ray Comfort: He was Joe in Bonanza, the youngest one.
- 17:00Ray Comfort: He still doesn't know.
- 17:02Oscar Navarro: He was the younger one in Bonanza, no.
- 17:04Mark Spence: I know Bonanza yeah he was the young one.
- 17:06Oscar Navarro: Which one's Joe, the younger one Little.
- 17:08Mark Spence: Joe, he was little Joe, we don't remember anything like this, but I mean to his credit.
- 17:14Mark Spence: My wife has been watching a lot of Little House on the Prairie lately to get her mind, you know, just to be preoccupied in different things.
- 17:22Mark Spence: And she's enjoying down that trip down, oh I love it.
- 17:27Emeal Zwayne: You know, Julia and her friend just went to like a Hollywood thing.
- 17:31Emeal Zwayne: Well, it was like a reunion type thing yeah, memorabil type thing.
- 17:34Emeal Zwayne: And it was yeah, it was like where they filmed it and then they had some of the actors there and they recreated like the house and you know different things.
- 17:41Ray Comfort: You pull your eyes out with every picture.
- 17:43Ray Comfort: I mean what happens?
- 17:44Ray Comfort: The dog goes blind, gets run over by a horse.
- 17:46Ray Comfort: The horse goes blind, breaks its legs.
- 17:49Emeal Zwayne: Everybody's sick.
- 17:50Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but no.
- 17:52Emeal Zwayne: But the whole point just meddling in people's business, trying to control things, trying to, I don't know like, mess with people's convictions, hurry up, yeah.
- 18:07Emeal Zwayne: So, guys, I'd love to get your thoughts on that.
- 18:10Emeal Zwayne: And here's really the, I think, the question that we wanna tackle today how do we, as believers, learn to discipline ourselves, to just know when to keep our mouth shut, to control our emotions and to major on the majors and minor on the minors and not get all tangled up in people's affairs?
- 18:33Emeal Zwayne: So, oscar, give us your thoughts.
- 18:39Oscar Navarro: You know, as I was preparing for this, my mind immediately went to not so much interpersonal interaction though that's really important and we should definitely talk about that but the state of social media and our engagement with celebrities and political affairs, because so often we get hung up on personal matters that are basically gossip columns and you have to take a step back and go.
- 19:10Oscar Navarro: This is none of my business, but it's an insatiating.
- 19:16Oscar Navarro: It feeds our fears and our angers, especially if it's about somebody that's in opposition to our worldview or belief system.
- 19:24Oscar Navarro: Then, like we revel in the information that's given to us about their political affairs.
- 19:29Oscar Navarro: I remember one time someone sending me a video of a woman who was a politician, who was like walking out of some personal I don't even remember what like a massage or something, and she was tripping and falling and I'm watching this going.
- 19:42Oscar Navarro: This is none of my business.
- 19:44Oscar Navarro: This is none of my business.
- 19:47Oscar Navarro: And I think of first Thessalonians, which Paul writes this on the backbone of political mayhem I mean, the whole city is up in arms, right, there was just a riot and he writes this letter to the Christians and he tells them we encourage you, brothers and sisters, do this even more, to seek to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, so that you may behave properly in the presence of outsiders and not dependent on anyone.
- 20:22Oscar Navarro: In other words, this idea of minding our own business, of leading quiet lives, is a witness to the gospel, rather than being caught up in the presence of this moment that we live in.
- 20:36Emeal Zwayne: Oscar, I'm glad you highlighted that, because I don't think we often think of public matters right Like a news item as an example, or maybe something about a political figure or whatever.
- 20:51Emeal Zwayne: We don't often think of that as being none of our business.
- 20:54Emeal Zwayne: I mean, we typically go to one of the main things we're gonna talk about and that's like other people that we know or people in our lives or whatever.
- 21:01Emeal Zwayne: But, ray, that is true, we're taking something that doesn't really concern us, it's not really a part of our lives, and we get all into it and worked up in it and it becomes even a form of gossip, because that's really what meddling in other people's affairs can become.
- 21:21Ray Comfort: Yeah, we show interest in gossip.
- 21:23Ray Comfort: That's what most of the talk shows are often about things that don't really matter.
- 21:27Ray Comfort: But the things that do matter are the things of eternity.
- 21:30Ray Comfort: You look on things not temporal, but things that are eternal.
- 21:33Ray Comfort: Guys, you know I do dumb things sometimes.
- 21:36Oscar Navarro: No, I did it today.
- 21:37Oscar Navarro: No, I did, seriously, I did.
- 21:39Ray Comfort: I took all my beautiful notes and overrode them with a really old file for this morning's podcast.
- 21:44Oscar Navarro: What Are you just figuring this out?
- 21:46Ray Comfort: right now.
- 21:47Ray Comfort: I'm horrified.
- 21:48Ray Comfort: No, Now, this is from old stuff.
- 21:50Ray Comfort: I from old stuff.
- 21:50Ray Comfort: I just over.
- 21:51Ray Comfort: I back everything up on this phone and it's backed up with the wrong set of notes.
- 21:55Ray Comfort: So I had all the right Bible verses and wonderful things to say and I got nothing to say.
- 22:00Ray Comfort: So carry on Easy.
- 22:01Ray Comfort: Is that any of our business, right?
- 22:03Emeal Zwayne: Yes.
- 22:04Mark Spence: In this situation maybe you know, I think I perhaps might have some insight in the midst of this with the idea of meddling with other people, right, but we have to find a balance in the midst of this.
- 22:15Mark Spence: Easy has often said something along these lines and that is you know, we go to a wedding, it's an outdoor wedding and there's candles that are lit or they're going to light a candle, and Easy goes oh no.
- 22:29Mark Spence: And you look over at Easy and he's just shaking his head.
- 22:31Mark Spence: Why didn't they check with me?
- 22:33Oscar Navarro: Why didn't?
- 22:33Emeal Zwayne: they check with me.
- 22:35Mark Spence: You don't like candles outside, why didn't they check with me?
- 22:37Mark Spence: Or somebody who has an unusual name you know?
- 22:41Mark Spence: And Eze will go oh, why didn't they check with me?
- 22:45Mark Spence: Why didn't they check with me?
- 22:46Mark Spence: I've heard that, but I think there's a scripture that actually coincides with this, and this is Ecclesiastes 1.18.
- 22:52Mark Spence: It says for in much wisdom is much grief, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.
- 22:57Mark Spence: I think that as we get a glimpse into Solomon, who was extremely wise, he's now surrounded by people that are not, and now they're making decisions that are not the best decisions, and he knows the decision that should be made and they're not making the decision.
- 23:15Mark Spence: And what are you supposed to do?
- 23:16Mark Spence: Feel joyful over that?
- 23:17Mark Spence: No, Right.
- 23:18Mark Spence: When we see people that now put their kids inside of a situation where they're setting them up for failure, and then you wanna give them knowledge, you wanna give them wisdom and insight as to maybe a good decision to make, and then they scorn that advice.
- 23:31Mark Spence: When we're thinking to ourselves no, this is just right.
- 23:34Mark Spence: We see this with our own kids as well.
- 23:36Mark Spence: When our kids don't heed advice to us and we're thinking, okay, you're going to learn in the storm I choose for you.
- 23:43Mark Spence: I want you to learn in the sanctuary, learn from my advice, learn from my experience, but you're not going to do it.
- 23:48Mark Spence: So I think that us, as we begin to meddle, that it's not necessarily birthed from something that is bad or negative.
- 23:55Mark Spence: Right and kids, when they're 16 years old, they think they just know everything.
- 23:59Mark Spence: Or non-Christians, they think they just know everything.
- 24:06Oscar Navarro: You bring a really good point and I think it's important to lay on a foundation of what is meddling, what is not my business and what does God call me to be a steward of.
- 24:16Oscar Navarro: I would say like, if you think about what Paul talks about, a quiet life.
- 24:20Oscar Navarro: A quiet life focuses on three things it focuses on your family, it focuses on your church and it focuses on your neighbors.
- 24:28Oscar Navarro: I love that.
- 24:29Oscar Navarro: And so a quiet life is discipling, it is engaging and is participating, is loving and caring to communicate and to disciple and to lead and to direct.
- 24:41Oscar Navarro: But it doesn't invite us into not our business, I would say things outside of that immediate category is not our business.
- 24:49Oscar Navarro: And as soon as we step into the not our business of the world, you know what it does.
- 24:53Oscar Navarro: It just leads us to anxiousness and uncertainty because we're not created to bear the burdens of celebrities and politicians.
- 25:02Oscar Navarro: You know what I mean.
- 25:03Oscar Navarro: God did not create the world for us to be all knowing the way our phones make us almost all knowing of media and information and all of that right now news cycle.
- 25:14Oscar Navarro: It just builds up anxiety in our lives rather than unplugging and focusing a quiet life on the three things that are around me my family, my church and my neighbors.
- 25:25Oscar Navarro: That's great, I wrote that down, that's great.
- 25:27Emeal Zwayne: I love that, Mark.
- 25:28Emeal Zwayne: I really wanna get back to what you highlighted, cause that.
- 25:32Emeal Zwayne: I'm so glad you brought that up.
- 25:34Emeal Zwayne: It's so, so important.
- 25:36Emeal Zwayne: You know, knowing things and, like you, brought up the candle thing right.
- 25:42Emeal Zwayne: The reason why I get worked up about that is because, as a pastor who's officiated at multiple weddings, I've seen this again and again.
- 25:51Emeal Zwayne: And again the couple puts candles in an outside wedding where the wind is blowing and it's inevitable they're going to blow out.
- 25:58Emeal Zwayne: Not just that, but even just candles in general that are being lit during a ceremony.
- 26:02Emeal Zwayne: Something always goes wrong with the lighter, it's just like, and it becomes this circus, you know.
- 26:09Ray Comfort: Did you see the video I sent you where the guy bumped all these candles In the church?
- 26:13Ray Comfort: Yeah, I love that, and he knocks over about a dozen candles.
- 26:18Emeal Zwayne: So you're right, mark, I see that.
- 26:20Emeal Zwayne: Names, that's another thing, right, I mean coming from Lebanon and knowing all these Arabs that came here to the US and have these names and seeing them get tormented, you know.
- 26:29Emeal Zwayne: But, ray, I want to say this You've been a great example to Rachel and me, you and my mother-in-law, sue, in that you guys really have not meddled in our family affairs, I mean very few times over the course of the last 20 years.
- 26:46Emeal Zwayne: You just haven't seen us at your window.
- 26:47Emeal Zwayne: That's what I thought I saw in my peripheral.
- 26:49Ray Comfort: Actually, it's more like this that's what I thought I saw in my peripheral.
- 26:53Ray Comfort: Actually it's more like this.
- 26:54Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but very few times have you really said something you know about.
- 27:03Emeal Zwayne: You know like that one I can picture.
- 27:04Mark Spence: Sue, sue, she's standing on her shoulders.
- 27:10Ray Comfort: Yeah, you couldn't reach the window.
- 27:11Ray Comfort: That's why.
- 27:14Mark Spence: Ray's standing on her back.
- 27:17Emeal Zwayne: But very few times have you guys said something.
- 27:20Emeal Zwayne: I mean, I remember way back in the day I know you remember this when I was seriously considering taking your beautiful daughter to Lebanon.
- 27:28Ray Comfort: I wasn't excited about that you weren't.
- 27:30Ray Comfort: What was that movie that came out Not Without my Daughter?
- 27:35Emeal Zwayne: You weren't excited.
- 27:36Emeal Zwayne: But, ray, that was one of the few times you even barely said something and it was very controlled, like you didn't like it, you weren't happy with it, but at the end of the day you understood that we were a new family unit and that we had to honor the Lord.
- 27:50Emeal Zwayne: I mean, is that something you did consciously through the years, like let's let them live their own lives?
- 27:53Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, absolutely.
- 27:54Ray Comfort: I struggled with that whole thing, that going back to Lebanon thing because I said am I going to let my daughter go?
- 28:00Ray Comfort: Do I own my daughter?
- 28:03Ray Comfort: Does God own my daughter?
- 28:04Ray Comfort: And when a husband and wife are joined together, let them leave their parents, father and mother Father and mother, father and mother.
- 28:13Ray Comfort: That's all I forgot, yeah, and so, yeah, I've got to just.
- 28:17Ray Comfort: Oh, I'll never forget the feeling when I gave my daughter away at the wedding.
- 28:22Ray Comfort: Do you remember?
- 28:23Ray Comfort: I don't know if I mentioned it, but we were standing at the back of about 400 people and everyone stood up and then suddenly every eye was on me, or Rachel, and we walked down the aisle and it was just so neat to be everyone looking at us and then it was just sit down and you stood up and took over and I became the old shoe.
- 28:44Ray Comfort: Yeah, yeah, you did.
- 28:47Ray Comfort: But yeah, it's very important to realize that.
- 28:48Ray Comfort: And the thing that helped me understand that is my father-in-law never meddled for a second, never said anything about my marriage, because he was very quiet.
- 28:58Emeal Zwayne: He never said anything.
- 29:01Ray Comfort: He was very quiet, so was my wife, and yes, but he didn't have any right to interfere because I had married his daughter, she had left and that's all there was to it.
- 29:12Ray Comfort: So I felt the same about you and Rachel.
- 29:20Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and so so mark back to to that.
- 29:21Emeal Zwayne: You know, yeah, that there is that point where we do have to stop, because there's something in us that it's almost like a, an itch, you know, like you know and you sense and you've seen, but there comes that time where we just have to just let them maybe make their own mistakes, yeah, you know.
- 29:35Emeal Zwayne: Let them grow in wisdom without us having to say something.
- 29:40Mark Spence: You know I told my oldest son, noah, when he married Jessica.
- 29:43Mark Spence: I said look, I love you, buddy, I'm sending you out, you know, into the world, shooting you out, you know, as far as I possibly can.
- 29:50Mark Spence: But listen, I'd love for you to come back.
- 29:52Mark Spence: I'd love for you to come back.
- 29:53Mark Spence: I'd love for you to come around.
- 29:54Mark Spence: You're welcome at any holiday, any gathering, anything that we have.
- 29:57Mark Spence: You're not expected to come.
- 29:59Mark Spence: We're gonna have Christmas celebrations.
- 30:02Mark Spence: You're welcome to be there.
- 30:03Mark Spence: For anything like that.
- 30:04Mark Spence: You're not expected to be there.
- 30:06Mark Spence: But if you do come, I'm gonna make it worth your while.
- 30:09Mark Spence: There's gonna be presents and stuff for the kids.
- 30:12Mark Spence: There's gonna be jovial laughter and times of getting inside the word and things of that nature.
- 30:16Mark Spence: You're not expected to come to anything.
- 30:18Mark Spence: I just wanna let you know that you're free to do whatever you wanna do.
- 30:21Mark Spence: You wanna spend all holidays at her house or just the two of you?
- 30:24Mark Spence: It's great.
- 30:25Mark Spence: I'll just return all the presents.
- 30:28Ray Comfort: I love the way an eagle gets rid of their young when they're growing up.
- 30:30Ray Comfort: Do you remember what the eagle does in the eagle's nest?
- 30:32Ray Comfort: Takes all the feathers out and just leaves sticks sticking up.
- 30:34Ray Comfort: So it's not comfortable, so they want to fly off and not come back.
- 30:37Ray Comfort: That's what you've got to do with your kids.
- 30:40Ray Comfort: I remember when all our kids left home and got married.
- 30:43Ray Comfort: I went home and it was a really empty house.
- 30:44Ray Comfort: I just felt that Suddenly the reality of it hit me, and easy, you're starting to fill it slowly.
- 30:51Emeal Zwayne: Luke moves out next month, so that'll be two down.
- 30:55Emeal Zwayne: Obviously, summer's married.
- 30:56Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, it's hard.
- 30:59Oscar Navarro: Ray came home and was like it's an empty house now.
- 31:01Oscar Navarro: And he had this revelation I need chickens, yes, 29 chickens Every room.
- 31:04Oscar Navarro: You can't bring them inside.
- 31:06Ray Comfort: You're not allowed to bring them inside.
- 31:07Ray Comfort: I don't think, but I'd like to bring them inside.
- 31:09Ray Comfort: Yeah, I know you would Ray.
- 31:10Ray Comfort: Yeah, I know you would Ray.
- 31:11Ray Comfort: I would actually create something.
- 31:13Ray Comfort: So when they laid the eggs, the eggs would roll down this sort of tube into the refrigerator or something.
- 31:18Ray Comfort: How about into your mouth, ray?
- 31:22Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, that would be quicker.
- 31:23Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, mark, that's beautiful.
- 31:24Emeal Zwayne: You know, one of the biggest problems with kids that end up getting married is holiday stuff.
- 31:31Emeal Zwayne: I've been blown away over the years like how much real drama that causes, and I've come to find, by way of wisdom and in keeping with our topic today minding your own business that this applies and there's nothing more beautiful than doing what you guys did.
- 31:47Emeal Zwayne: Mark, like to have an open, free hand.
- 31:49Emeal Zwayne: Ray, you again, sue, have been the same way.
- 31:52Emeal Zwayne: You've never made us feel like guilty.
- 31:53Emeal Zwayne: Oh, you again, sue, have been the same way.
- 31:54Emeal Zwayne: You've never made us feel guilty.
- 31:55Emeal Zwayne: Oh, we got this.
- 31:56Emeal Zwayne: I love that attitude of being able to say to your kids go for it, no matter what.
- 32:01Emeal Zwayne: I mean, that's mine and Rachel's commitment with all our children's in-laws.
- 32:04Emeal Zwayne: Our heart's attitude is they always get first option on everything, no questions asked.
- 32:09Emeal Zwayne: No questions asked, absolutely go.
- 32:11Emeal Zwayne: Can't make it this Christmas?
- 32:13Emeal Zwayne: Hey, we love you, no problem.
- 32:14Emeal Zwayne: Hey, why don't you come over, like the day after Christmas or the next week?
- 32:17Emeal Zwayne: We'll do it then, man, that kind of attitude that fosters closeness with your kids in the future Because, as I shared before, our kids grow up and they are going to be able to make their own decision whether or not they're going to be close to us, and oftentimes that decision is influenced by what we did with them, first as they were growing up, but even as they begin to enter their own relationship, if we were overbearing, if we were controlling, if we were jealous, I can assure you they're going to activate that option to distance themselves.
- 32:51Oscar Navarro: You don't want that.
- 32:51Oscar Navarro: You know, my in-laws were amazing at this too.
- 32:55Oscar Navarro: When we got married, we spent about a year and a half, I think, living with them to save money to buy our first home, and they were not believers.
- 33:05Oscar Navarro: And the whole time we were there, they never once tried to tell us how to parent our children, how to be married, how to communicate, how to deal with finances.
- 33:16Ray Comfort: Well, that's commendable, for non-believers.
- 33:18Oscar Navarro: It really is, and through that my father-in-law came to a saving faith and was one of the first to be baptized at our church, and our witness to him was he came to us, he had heard the gospel, he had heard us sitting in the backyard talking through things, and then he witnessed it through our marriage and that's what brought him to a saving faith, and so the Lord blessed it.
- 33:40Oscar Navarro: But the point is is to your point, they were.
- 33:41Oscar Navarro: I'm so thankful how hands off they were.
- 33:43Oscar Navarro: They've been the same way about Christmas and Thanksgiving and that has caused us in some ways to want to be there, like we laid out the calendar and we want to be there on Christmas Eve.
- 33:54Oscar Navarro: We want to be there on Easter because it's an open invitation, much like you.
- 33:58Oscar Navarro: It's like man, we're gonna be here.
- 33:59Oscar Navarro: We'd love for you to be here.
- 34:00Oscar Navarro: If not, we totally understand, we'll do something else later if that works best for you.
- 34:04Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, yeah, that's human nature.
- 34:07Emeal Zwayne: You know, the more you crowd someone, you make them feel guilty, you obligate them.
- 34:11Emeal Zwayne: It's like magnets, right being turned on the opposite.
- 34:14Emeal Zwayne: It just pushes people away and that happens.
- 34:18Emeal Zwayne: You call that person you haven't talked to in a long time and hey, how's it going?
- 34:22Emeal Zwayne: And they're like oh, finally, I haven't heard from you in forever.
- 34:25Emeal Zwayne: And how excited are you going to be to call them the next time, Whereas it's like, oh man, I'm so sorry, Bro, don't even worry about it.
- 34:35Emeal Zwayne: I've been so busy and I know how life is.
- 34:38Emeal Zwayne: But it's great to hear from you.
- 34:40Emeal Zwayne: It's invitational, yeah.
- 34:44Ray Comfort: I just love that what you just said there, because last Sunday was one of the most horrific Sundays I've ever had in my life because I found out because of a mistake I was supposed to be at a church and I didn't show up.
- 34:56Ray Comfort: On Sunday morning when I found out I was horrified.
- 35:00Ray Comfort: It was just someone overlooked something and they waited for me.
- 35:08Ray Comfort: They thought I'd been killed or something, but I hadn't.
- 35:09Ray Comfort: It just didn't happen.
- 35:09Ray Comfort: That was this Sunday, this last Sunday, and I just hardly could.
- 35:11Ray Comfort: I was almost in tears, could hardly sleep that night just the thought of it.
- 35:14Ray Comfort: So I called the pastor with a repentant voice message to him just saying this is a repentant rate comfort.
- 35:20Ray Comfort: Please forgive me.
- 35:21Ray Comfort: Here's my number if you ever want to talk to me again.
- 35:23Ray Comfort: And he called the next day and oh he was so nice.
- 35:26Emeal Zwayne: Okay, ray, this is crazy.
- 35:27Emeal Zwayne: In fact, I have evidence.
- 35:29Emeal Zwayne: I can show you my texts right now.
- 35:30Emeal Zwayne: Yesterday, mark and I both were texting about how we both almost forgot that we had to be at a church yesterday, the same day.
- 35:38Oscar Navarro: Can you?
- 35:39Oscar Navarro: Imagine if all three of us, this past Sunday, this past Sunday, oh, you guys together or two separate churches, two separate churches, two separate churches.
- 35:45Emeal Zwayne: All three of us had three separate churches to speak at and all three of us almost forgot Well one did Almost.
- 35:51Mark Spence: One did yeah.
- 35:52Mark Spence: So the pastor sent me a text saying morning brother.
- 35:59Mark Spence: When you come, you can park in the parking lot at this address.
- 36:01Mark Spence: I'm like, oh no, I'm speaking in an hour and a half.
- 36:02Emeal Zwayne: This was hours before, right, Mark.
- 36:04Emeal Zwayne: It was two hours exactly two hours and me the day before I was planning okay, sunday I'm going to do this and I'm going to do that.
- 36:12Emeal Zwayne: And then Rachel goes say when you speak at that church tomorrow, and that's how I remembered.
- 36:18Emeal Zwayne: I'm like, ah, I mean, look, we're responsible people, we have calendars, we have all kinds of things, but once in a while, you know.
- 36:23Oscar Navarro: So if you're looking for public speakers, good luck.
- 36:27Ray Comfort: Anyway, like I was, saying this pastor called back and he was so nice.
- 36:31Ray Comfort: He said no problem at all.
- 36:32Ray Comfort: These things happen.
- 36:39Emeal Zwayne: And we look forward to having you on the such and such.
- 36:40Ray Comfort: You're not getting an honorary.
- 36:40Ray Comfort: So gracious, yeah, and it just made me feel so good.
- 36:42Ray Comfort: I just don't care if I don't show up now.
- 36:44Ray Comfort: No, I said to him, I'm going to write this on my forehead with a marker pen the date.
- 36:50Ray Comfort: Did you reschedule it?
- 36:51Emeal Zwayne: Yes, Oscar, what did that pastor say?
- 36:53Emeal Zwayne: I was just trying to remember on the 10th church that you missed in a row.
- 36:59Oscar Navarro: I do have a question for you, Uzi.
- 37:01Oscar Navarro: There are people in our lives where we see them going through things.
- 37:04Oscar Navarro: At what point do we like?
- 37:08Oscar Navarro: What do you do?
- 37:08Oscar Navarro: Do you wait for them to seek counsel from you?
- 37:10Oscar Navarro: I'm talking about a member of our church, for example, or a family member.
- 37:13Oscar Navarro: Whatever the case, Do you wait for them to come to you to seek counsel?
- 37:16Oscar Navarro: Do you approach them?
- 37:18Oscar Navarro: What does that balance look like of wanting to mind your own business, having a quiet life, but also they are in that circle of family, church, community and you wanna participate.
- 37:29Oscar Navarro: How do you balance?
- 37:30Emeal Zwayne: that that's such a good question.
- 37:32Emeal Zwayne: I think honestly, in all of this that we're talking about, it goes back to the heart.
- 37:37Emeal Zwayne: When your heart attitude is one of genuine care and a desire to not meddle in people's business, it'll affect your demeanor Right, and people know like there's a difference between you having gone, gossiped about it, got all worked up about it, been judgmental about it.
- 37:55Emeal Zwayne: You know, oh yeah, they haven't been to church in so long.
- 37:58Emeal Zwayne: They probably doing this and that, whatever, with that face.
- 38:00Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, Then you approach them and that's going to seep through, sure, you know.
- 38:05Emeal Zwayne: So it's like hey, where you been?
- 38:07Emeal Zwayne: Man, I haven't seen you in a while.
- 38:08Emeal Zwayne: You know.
- 38:09Emeal Zwayne: Versus hey, bro, I miss you, I haven't seen you in a while.
- 38:13Emeal Zwayne: Is everything, everything, okay, you know.
- 38:14Emeal Zwayne: And so I think you have to obviously be sensitive, discerning.
- 38:17Emeal Zwayne: You know every situation is different.
- 38:19Emeal Zwayne: You have different contexts, but I think that it is good to check up on each other you know to, to make sure that others are doing well, because how many stories have we heard where someone's like man, I was going through this, no one even cared, no one checked on me, no one hadn't been around in a while.
- 38:35Emeal Zwayne: No one was like where were you.
- 38:36Emeal Zwayne: You get those stories all the time.
- 38:43Emeal Zwayne: So I think it is good to do that when you sense a concern and something doesn't seem right.
- 38:45Emeal Zwayne: But it's how you do it, it's that spirit of sweetness.
- 38:46Emeal Zwayne: It's again asking questions versus making accusations, even if you've heard something.
- 38:53Emeal Zwayne: Hey, man, I heard this.
- 38:55Emeal Zwayne: But I know you, I know your character, I I'm sure it's probably not accurate, but I just wanted to, you know, just check with you on it because I love you, you know, and I think those sorts of things are good.
- 39:05Ray Comfort: but but you know, there is ray comfort how long did it take you, uh, to get used to putting little love hearts on texts back to people?
- 39:14Emeal Zwayne: it took a while it took me a little while yeah, I felt weird as a man to do a heart, yeah, but now I'm fine.
- 39:19Ray Comfort: Someone sends you something that's great and I love it.
- 39:21Ray Comfort: I just send a little heart back and I don't feel bad.
- 39:23Ray Comfort: But at first it was awkward yeah.
- 39:26Emeal Zwayne: when a real buff, manly, masculine man did that once I'm like, oh, it's okay for me to do it.
- 39:30Emeal Zwayne: Oh, thank you?
- 39:31Ray Comfort: That was me.
- 39:31Ray Comfort: Yeah, I'm laughing too much.
- 39:34Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but yeah, I love 1 Peter 4.15.
- 39:38Emeal Zwayne: It says but let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer or as a busybody in other people's matters.
- 39:47Emeal Zwayne: What a fitting Mark just sent me a love heart.
- 39:50Emeal Zwayne: But 1 Peter 4.15,.
- 39:55Emeal Zwayne: Guys, I was reading Let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer or as a busybody in other people's matters, Like look at that list that that was added to Murderer, thief, evildoer, busybody.
- 40:09Emeal Zwayne: I never thought of that, which one doesn't belong.
- 40:13Mark Spence: No, that's good.
- 40:14Emeal Zwayne: But I think it goes to show that this is serious, because you can destroy a home, you can destroy a family by being a busy body.
- 40:23Emeal Zwayne: Did you hear about easy?
- 40:26Ray Comfort: See, did you see these guys yeah?
- 40:27Emeal Zwayne: so the ears move forward.
- 40:28Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but yeah.
- 40:32Emeal Zwayne: A busy body, Isn't that a cool term, Oscar.
- 40:36Oscar Navarro: It is.
- 40:36Oscar Navarro: And I think the reason why maybe the Lord or Peter in that letter equated it to murder, is because what happens, what is the sin in our lives that cause us to meddle?
- 40:50Oscar Navarro: The thing that causes us to meddle is that when we compare ourselves to other people, we eventually or I should say, when we talk about other people we eventually in some way, shape or form, compare ourselves to them.
- 41:04Oscar Navarro: And when we compare ourselves to other people, we become very quickly the legalist, the Pharisee, you know.
- 41:13Oscar Navarro: We immediately want to know we are better than them.
- 41:15Oscar Navarro: Well, I can't believe they do it that way, and can you believe he did this?
- 41:18Oscar Navarro: And I would never and my person wouldn't.
- 41:21Oscar Navarro: And so therein lies the reason why a busy body would be right next to the murderers.
- 41:27Oscar Navarro: Because of pride, because our pride kicks in and we have hatred in our heart for others, because we wanna feel elite, because we wanna feel prioritized, because we wanna feel more righteous than the next person.
- 41:40Oscar Navarro: And so the Lord sees the spiritual, and when he sees the spiritual, he sees the busy body and the murderer in the same place, which is in need of grace, wow.
- 41:51Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and I mean, ray, don't you think that being a busybody meddling in people's affairs and gossip kind of go hand in hand, that it typically ends up leading there?
- 42:04Ray Comfort: The key is to grab the golden rule, which we have access to because the love of Christ dwells within us, and put it into practice.
- 42:10Ray Comfort: If you love others as you love yourself and want to do good to them, you'll not say things that are unkind or think unkind thoughts.
- 42:18Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, I think, ultimately, it's a violation of love, because when you think about the scenario, you're that's what I was saying.
- 42:25Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you think of the scenario of something that someone is doing, and that's typically how it starts, right, we know someone and they're doing this.
- 42:36Emeal Zwayne: We don't like this, we don't agree with this, that's not our conviction or whatever, and so we begin right, and what we need to ask ourselves is are we praying for those people?
- 42:49Emeal Zwayne: Like, if it's something that we're genuinely concerned about, has it begun with prayer Praying on?
- 42:55Ray Comfort: or praying for.
- 42:56Emeal Zwayne: Praying on praying for.
- 42:58Ray Comfort: P-R-E-Y-I.
- 43:01Emeal Zwayne: Oh, I like that Ray.
- 43:03Emeal Zwayne: He just baptized me.
- 43:06Emeal Zwayne: Baptizes Ray with water, yeah, like.
- 43:09Emeal Zwayne: I think that's a good indicator.
- 43:11Emeal Zwayne: And for those of you listening right now, ask yourself this when you have been talking with others about others, did you first go to the Lord and sincerely pour out your heart and intercession for those people?
- 43:25Emeal Zwayne: Can you give us an example?
- 43:28Emeal Zwayne: Well, remember that one time when Mark you know, but like and if you haven't, you really have no business talking about it, unless it's genuinely to find a solution with someone who may know what's going on as well.
- 43:43Emeal Zwayne: And you're guarded as you're doing, You're careful as you do it.
- 43:47Ray Comfort: If we're about our father's business, we won't worry about other people's business.
- 43:50Ray Comfort: Ooh.
- 43:51Emeal Zwayne: Ray, you're on a roll today.
- 43:54Mark Spence: What is that saying that you say easy about?
- 43:58Emeal Zwayne: talk to me all you want.
- 43:58Emeal Zwayne: If you please, I'll talk to you.
- 43:59Emeal Zwayne: Oh, it's a saying, it's not original, but talk about it all you please.
- 44:01Emeal Zwayne: I'll talk about it on my knees.
- 44:03Emeal Zwayne: I love that.
- 44:06Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and again, convictions, I think is an area where it's really difficult, because when we feel something about something and someone's not doing that and it's not a biblical thing, now look, I'm not saying that we can't speak wisdom into each other's lives, even if it's not something that's biblically concrete.
- 44:25Emeal Zwayne: If we're beginning to see issues of breakdown or compromise or whatever.
- 44:31Emeal Zwayne: You're talking about personal convictions, yeah, yeah, like you know, whatever I mean.
- 44:37Emeal Zwayne: For example, maybe some believers have a hard time listening to secular music as an example.
- 44:43Emeal Zwayne: We've talked about that on the program before and there's another believer that's listening to secular music.
- 44:49Emeal Zwayne: But you know they're tempted to be like, hey, why don't you listen to Christian music all the time?
- 44:54Emeal Zwayne: Why don't you listen to secular music?
- 44:54Emeal Zwayne: Listen to Christian music all the time?
- 44:59Emeal Zwayne: Why do you listen to secular music?
- 44:59Emeal Zwayne: You know we need to just let people be, let them live their own lives.
- 45:01Emeal Zwayne: Now, if our brother is listening to you know Marilyn Manson if he's still around, maybe I'm dating myself.
- 45:07Emeal Zwayne: Or listening to you know, eminem, or it's something that's foul and vulgar and profane and blasphemous.
- 45:14Emeal Zwayne: Look, that's an to like speak into their life on that, you know.
- 45:19Emeal Zwayne: But where we, we go the extra mile is where, like, hey, I listen to second music.
- 45:23Emeal Zwayne: Let's say, someone feel they listen to second music and it just grieves them and it and it, you know, is not edifying for them and it pricks their conscience.
- 45:32Emeal Zwayne: The problem is, is we extrapolate and then we conclude that must be that brother's experience and it's, you know, probably the furthest thing from their experience.
- 45:41Emeal Zwayne: But that's where we overstep our bound when it's something that is in an area like that.
- 45:47Emeal Zwayne: But if I start seeing, hey, this brother hasn't come to church, you know, for seven weeks.
- 45:51Emeal Zwayne: What's he doing?
- 45:52Emeal Zwayne: Oh, he's at home listening to Lionel Richie.
- 45:55Emeal Zwayne: You know whatever.
- 45:56Emeal Zwayne: Maybe Lionel Richie's songs are tame or just love songs or whatever, but now it's not even the songs that's a problem.
- 46:02Emeal Zwayne: It's that he's now not prioritizing what's more important.
- 46:06Oscar Navarro: I'm picturing a guy now skipping church because he's putting Lionel Richie records on vinyl.
- 46:12Ray Comfort: I'm seeing a pastor now playing Lionel Richie records in church to get his people to come back.
- 46:18Emeal Zwayne: Draw them in with good old Lionel.
- 46:20Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, so Lionel on vinyl.
- 46:22Emeal Zwayne: Yeah.
- 46:23Emeal Zwayne: So I think all those things are key.
- 46:26Emeal Zwayne: And to remember, you know, romans 14, 4, who are you to judge another servant to his own master?
- 46:31Emeal Zwayne: He stands or falls.
- 46:32Emeal Zwayne: Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
- 46:35Emeal Zwayne: He's God's servant, you know.
- 46:39Emeal Zwayne: Let's give that latitude, let's give ourselves to prayer, let's be encouraging, and if we see concern, yeah let's ask each other, hey, what's going on?
- 46:47Emeal Zwayne: And have that again, that humble, gentle spirit.
- 46:51Emeal Zwayne: You know, just yesterday I talked to someone that I hadn't seen in about 25 years maybe.
- 46:58Ray Comfort: Probation officer.
- 47:00Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, a lone shark coming after me, that was good, but I haven't seen this person in about 25 years.
- 47:09Emeal Zwayne: I saw him at a wedding and as we began to talk he just went negative immediately on something, and I remember my last conversation with him 25 years ago was on something negative.
- 47:24Emeal Zwayne: That's where we left off and that's where he picked it up 25 years later, and it was just so sad.
- 47:30Emeal Zwayne: I don't want to be that person.
- 47:32Emeal Zwayne: I don't want to be that person.
- 47:34Emeal Zwayne: I wanna be that kind of person that all of us can maybe think of in our minds, that every time we see them, they are a breath of fresh air.
- 47:42Emeal Zwayne: Even when they've corrected us, even when they've confronted us, we've walked away feeling blessed and thankful to the Lord because we were loved by them.
- 47:53Emeal Zwayne: That's how I wanna be.
- 47:55Emeal Zwayne: Who was that guy Jalabuxi?
- 47:58Oscar Navarro: They didn't check with you.
- 47:59Oscar Navarro: Why was he still upset with Mark?
- 48:05Emeal Zwayne: Let me close us with this final exhortation from Martin Lloyd-Jones.
- 48:09Oscar Navarro: The doctor.
- 48:11Emeal Zwayne: The main art in the matter of spiritual living is to know how to handle yourself.
- 48:15Emeal Zwayne: You have to take yourself in hand.
- 48:18Emeal Zwayne: You have to address yourself, preach to yourself, question yourself.
- 48:22Emeal Zwayne: You must say to your soul why art thou downcast?
- 48:26Emeal Zwayne: Why art thou down?
- 48:27Emeal Zwayne: What business have you to be disquieted?
- 48:29Emeal Zwayne: You must turn on yourself, upbraid yourself, condemn yourself, exhort yourself and say to yourself hope thou in God instead of muttering in this depressed, unhappy way.
- 48:41Emeal Zwayne: And then you must go on to remind yourself of God, who God is and what God is and what God has done and what God has pledged himself to do.
- 48:49Emeal Zwayne: Then, having done that, end on this great note, defy yourself and defy other people and defy the devil and the whole world, and say with this man I shall yet praise him for the health of his countenance, who is also the health of my countenance and my God.
- 49:05Oscar Navarro: For those who don't know, Dr Martin Lloyd-Jones was like one of the wisest schizophrenics.
- 49:11Emeal Zwayne: Was he?
- 49:11Emeal Zwayne: Was he?
- 49:11Emeal Zwayne: Tell us all about it.
- 49:12Ray Comfort: I think we're going to do a Martin Lloyd Jones accent while you're reading this quote.
- 49:17Ray Comfort: You should do that.
- 49:22Emeal Zwayne: Oh boy, all right friends.
- 49:24Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, so there you have it.
- 49:25Emeal Zwayne: Focus on yourself.
- 49:27Emeal Zwayne: Don't meddle in other people's business, don't be a busybody.
- 49:30Emeal Zwayne: Worship God, pray for other people, love on other people, Share when you're concerned and, man, be a happy warrior for the glory of God.
- 49:39Emeal Zwayne: Well, there you have it.
