- Lucas: Welcome back to another episode of Learn German with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. We are so glad you are here with us today. Lucas: Last week we talked about booking classes. Today we are actually going to the gym. Luna: Oh wow. I have not been to a gym in German before. Is it different? Lucas: It is very similar. You just need the right words for the equipment. Luna: Okay. Let's start with the heavy stuff. What do we call weights? Lucas: We use the word die Hantel. It means dumbbell or hand weight. Luna: Die Hantel. Okay. Let me try that. Die Hantel. Lucas: Perfect. Very clear. Just remember the feminine article die. Luna: Got it. Die Hantel. So if I want to lift one, what do I say? Lucas: You can simply say Ich hebe die Hantel. I lift the dumbbell. Luna: Ich hebe die Hantel. That sounds strong. I like it. Lucas: It does sound strong. Now let's look at the machines. The cardio section. Luna: Yes. I usually go there first to warm up. What is the word for machine? Lucas: For cardio specifically, we say das Cardio-Gerät. Cardo device. Luna: Das Cardio-Gerät. Hmm. That is a long word. Let me try again. Lucas: Take your time. Das Cardio-Gerät. Break it into pieces. Luna: Das Cardio... Gerät. Das Cardio-Gerät. There we go. Lucas: Exactly. You nailed it. And remember, it is neuter, so das. Luna: Right. Das Cardio-Gerät. Okay, I feel ready to run on that. Lucas: I bet you do. But sometimes things go wrong at the gym. Machines break. Luna: Oh no. That happens to me all the time. How do I ask for help? Lucas: The most useful phrase is Ich brauche Hilfe. I need help. Luna: Ich brauche Hilfe. Okay. I will shout that if the treadmill stops. Lucas: Please be polite about it. But yes, that is exactly what you say. Luna: Ich brauche Hilfe. It feels direct. I like being direct. Lucas: It is efficient. Now, imagine you finish your workout. You are sweaty. Luna: Very sweaty. Where do I change clothes? In Germany, this matters. Lucas: You ask: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Where is the changing room? Luna: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Wow. That is a mouthful. Let me practice. Lucas: Slowly. Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Focus on the middle part. Luna: Umkleidekabine. Umkleidekabine. Okay. Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Lucas: Beautiful. You got the rhythm perfectly. The stress is on the end. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I think I can find the locker now without panic. Lucas: You certainly can. Finally, let's talk about how you feel after the class. Luna: Usually exhausted. What is the word for tiring or strenuous? Lucas: We use the adjective anstrengend. So, Das war anstrengend. Luna: Das war anstrengend. That was strenuous. Oh my gosh, yes. Lucas: It is the perfect way to describe a hard workout. Try it once more. Luna: Das war anstrengend. My legs hurt just saying it. Good phrase though. Lucas: It is very common. You will hear it everywhere in a gym. Luna: Let's review them quickly. Die Hantel. Das Cardio-Gerät. Lucas: Good. Then Ich brauche Hilfe. And Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Luna: And finally, Das war anstrengend. I feel like a pro already. Lucas: You definitely are. Learning these phrases makes the gym less scary. Luna: True. It is better than guessing with hand signals. Lucas: Definitely. Speaking of progress, Fexingo helps you keep that momentum. Luna: If Fexingo has helped you make progress with German... Lucas: and you want to support the show, check out buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: It really keeps the episodes coming. Thank you for listening. Lucas: Back to our vocab. Repeat die Hantel with me. Die Hantel. Luna: Die Hantel. One more time. Die Hantel. Solid work. Lucas: Now das Cardio-Gerät. Say it with energy. Das Cardio-Gerät. Luna: Das Cardio-Gerät. Yes. Getting faster every time. Lucas: How about the request? Ich brauche Hilfe. Make it clear. Luna: Ich brauche Hilfe. Perfect. Clear and concise. Lucas: The question for the room. Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Luna: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? I hope I never forget that one. Lucas: You won't. It sticks after repetition. Last phrase: Das war anstrengend. Luna: Das war anstrengend. I am feeling it now. Great session. Lucas: Remember, consistency is key. Practice these five phrases daily. Luna: Even if you are just doing pushups in your living room. Lucas: Exactly. Use the space you have. The language is everywhere. Luna: I tried to say Ich brauche Hilfe while making breakfast yesterday. Lucas: Oh no. Did anyone hear you? Luna: Just my cat. He looked confused. But I felt confident. Lucas: That is the spirit. Confidence comes from knowing the words. Luna: So next time we meet, maybe we talk about post-workout snacks? Lucas: That sounds delicious. We can discuss protein and healthy options. Luna: I am already looking forward to that episode. Lucas: Until then, keep practicing your die Hantel and das Cardio-Gerät. Luna: See you next time. Bye for now. Lucas: Bye. Keep moving and keep learning.
