- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcoming too a Monday morning Jags Am, I'm Kadannie Stevens,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Brian Sexton, and John Osier are with me today. We're
- 0:22Speaker 1: gonna talk about that last second loss to the Packers yesterday.
- 0:25Speaker 1: The Jaguars fall two, two and six on the season.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's all their fault. That's big thing, Number one. Easy
- 0:31Speaker 1: to blame things on the defense. After that play that
- 0:34Speaker 1: led to the field goal to win the game, Josh
- 0:37Speaker 1: Allen talked about things after the thame.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Uh, this is definitely hurts right now. Uh, you know,
- 0:43Speaker 2: we had every opportunity to win a game, and you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: again it comes back down to those you know, those
- 0:48Speaker 2: those those little those little mistakes for I don't know
- 0:51Speaker 2: what happened on that last place. You know, I think
- 0:54Speaker 2: she still got hurt or something. So hopefully he's he's
- 0:56Speaker 2: feeling all right. But you know this, this one was
- 0:59Speaker 2: definite gonna hurt cause i' but like we had a
- 1:00Speaker 2: great game, defense, league touch of the teams, pumplessly. You know,
- 1:05Speaker 2: I think we all made big plays when we needed
- 1:07Speaker 2: it the most, but we.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Didn't we didn't get this victory.
- 1:09Speaker 2: So you know that on this one really works.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Brian, we know what happened on that play. Now, we
- 1:14Speaker 1: saw Andre Cisco get Bee. He cramped up on that
- 1:17Speaker 1: play and it led to the field goal to win
- 1:19Speaker 1: the game. And obviously that's the last place so you
- 1:21Speaker 1: want to focus on that. But it was a lot
- 1:24Speaker 1: of moments in that game. And again we say this
- 1:26Speaker 1: every week that it comes down to those little moments
- 1:28Speaker 1: and that's what costs them these games.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Well, the thing it stands out to me, kay, is
- 1:31Speaker 4: this is the third time and six losses that they've
- 1:33Speaker 4: lost at the end of the game Miami, Houston and
- 1:38Speaker 4: now against Green Bay, and this defense at the moment
- 1:42Speaker 4: where they need to be their best, right with the
- 1:45Speaker 4: game on the line, couldn't come through and it you
- 1:48Speaker 4: know it. I don't know what to say other than
- 1:51Speaker 4: they just can't seem to hold up when they need
- 1:53Speaker 4: them the most.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Cleveland sort of fits that too. It was a
- 1:57Speaker 3: little different, but big play ye get stops a big moments.
- 2:00Speaker 3: In this league, the NFL, these days, you're not gonna
- 2:03Speaker 3: have shutouts, but you are going to have opportunities to
- 2:06Speaker 3: get off the field at big moments. And look, they're
- 2:11Speaker 3: not getting interior pressure and they're not able to cover
- 2:14Speaker 3: deep very well in the big moments or in other moments,
- 2:19Speaker 3: big breakout plays with more time to throw than should be.
- 2:22Speaker 3: The case has defined the season and it defined sort
- 2:26Speaker 3: of their waterloo if you will, yesterday or.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Big thing number two. It's not their fault in that regard.
- 2:32Speaker 1: There's plenty of blant to go around. Yes, the defense
- 2:34Speaker 1: didn't play as well, but the offense couldn't get going
- 2:36Speaker 1: early once again another cold start. They turned the ball
- 2:39Speaker 1: over as well. Trevor Lawrence talked about some of the
- 2:41Speaker 1: issues on third down.
- 2:44Speaker 5: There's always a couple things, but it wasn't anything crazy.
- 2:45Speaker 5: We just did an execute and I missed a couple
- 2:48Speaker 5: throws on third down throughout the game. There are some
- 2:52Speaker 5: other ones where it just felt like the details weren't
- 2:54Speaker 5: good enough, whether that's being on the same page and
- 2:57Speaker 5: the perimeter, or it just seemed like some of the
- 3:01Speaker 5: details we were lacking a little bit early and some
- 3:03Speaker 5: of the third downs. They made some good plays too,
- 3:05Speaker 5: but we got to be able to convert some of
- 3:07Speaker 5: those third downs. I think we had two or three
- 3:10Speaker 5: three an ounce in a row to start the game
- 3:11Speaker 5: and put our defense in a tough spot, and they
- 3:13Speaker 5: were playing. They were playing great so yeah, we gotta
- 3:17Speaker 5: we gotta be better on third down. We've been better
- 3:19Speaker 5: for the last few weeks going into this game, and
- 3:21Speaker 5: we weren't.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Good at that John it was three three announced to
- 3:25Speaker 1: start the game, and Trevor Lawrence a great last drive
- 3:28Speaker 1: with a lot of backups on the field at that point.
- 3:31Speaker 1: But it's frustrating we can't see the offense do like
- 3:33Speaker 1: a full four quarters of what we know the offense
- 3:37Speaker 1: is capable of, and then we're in situations like this
- 3:39Speaker 1: at the end.
- 3:39Speaker 3: It is, but you know, twenty seven points and to me,
- 3:45Speaker 3: two of the most impressive drives that this team's had
- 3:48Speaker 3: in a long long time. The one early in the
- 3:50Speaker 3: third quarter to take the lead was an impressive, methodical drive.
- 3:53Speaker 3: They got it going. The offense obviously isn't plea blames.
- 3:58Speaker 3: He had two point blank turnovers. They gave the Packers points,
- 4:01Speaker 3: and when discussing the Jaguars defense yesterday, that should be
- 4:06Speaker 3: taking a consideration too. They have some bad breaks early,
- 4:09Speaker 3: but to me, the offense got it going at big times,
- 4:14Speaker 3: got them the lead in the second half.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Those are supposed to be the moments.
- 4:20Speaker 3: After you've sort of treaded water a little bit in
- 4:22Speaker 3: the game where you get the lead and then you
- 4:25Speaker 3: take control of the game.
- 4:26Speaker 6: So I'm gonna go the other way. I think the
- 4:28Speaker 6: offense did n't have to win that game yesterday.
- 4:31Speaker 4: I wrote down in my notebook during the game, you
- 4:33Speaker 4: can't blame the defense for this because they kept the
- 4:38Speaker 4: game closer as the offense was sputtering for the second
- 4:40Speaker 4: straight week. If you recall from Wembley Stadium in London,
- 4:43Speaker 4: the Jaguars had twenty five yards on five plays in
- 4:45Speaker 4: the first quarter. Yesterday had fifteen on six plays. It
- 4:50Speaker 4: was preposterous to see the offense come out and completely unable. Now,
- 4:55Speaker 4: credit to the Packers defense. It's a good defense. It
- 4:58Speaker 4: makes things confusing. It took a little while for them
- 5:01Speaker 4: to figure out, and the offense did. But the defense,
- 5:04Speaker 4: they gave up one touchdown and a couple of field goals,
- 5:06Speaker 4: and they kept the game close enough for Trevor to
- 5:08Speaker 4: make it thirteen to ten at the half and then
- 5:10Speaker 4: take the lead and then tie the game. So the
- 5:14Speaker 4: defense did a lot of good things yesterday. But then
- 5:17Speaker 4: they had the long drive after the Jags took the lead.
- 5:21Speaker 4: They gave up the touchdown drive to Malik Willis. The
- 5:23Speaker 4: backup quarterback. Look, Josh Jacobs is a really good running back,
- 5:26Speaker 4: but he's not Derrick Henry, although he ran through arm
- 5:29Speaker 4: tackles yesterday and looked just like Derrick Henry. So you
- 5:33Speaker 4: know that both sides offense slow. John just pointed out
- 5:37Speaker 4: twenty seven points. Great, but you buried yourself early, defense
- 5:40Speaker 4: buried itself late.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Let's go to our final big thing today, which is
- 5:44Speaker 1: maybe next man up. Not only did they lose that game,
- 5:46Speaker 1: they lost a lot of players in that game. Several
- 5:49Speaker 1: offensive players, three wide receivers went out. Christian Kirk's injury
- 5:52Speaker 1: looks like it's going to be long term. We don't
- 5:53Speaker 1: know quite yet what's wrong with Brian Thomas Junior will
- 5:56Speaker 1: update that throughout the week, but some you know, Ronald
- 5:59Speaker 1: Darby went out as well, some injuries on the offensive line. Brian,
- 6:02Speaker 1: this is going to be an issue as well for
- 6:03Speaker 1: them going forward. The injuries. Now they have to.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Deal with no rest for the weary. We were just
- 6:07Speaker 4: talking about getting players back for your luakon returning, perhaps
- 6:11Speaker 4: Dewey coming back on defense to help, and perhaps he
- 6:14Speaker 4: will be back this week. But now all of a sudden,
- 6:16Speaker 4: you're going to deal with an ankle injury from your
- 6:18Speaker 4: left guard, and hopefully Brandon Sheriff is able to continue.
- 6:22Speaker 4: He did get back into the game yesterday, so that's
- 6:24Speaker 4: certainly a good sign. The receivers. That group looks like
- 6:28Speaker 4: it's going to be a mess for a couple of weeks.
- 6:31Speaker 4: This is not gonna get easier. And you're going to Philadelphia. Yeah,
- 6:35Speaker 4: I'm gonna give you some great insight here she got.
- 6:37Speaker 4: It was one of those games. But sometimes in the
- 6:42Speaker 4: middle of a season, when you're laying it all on
- 6:45Speaker 4: the line and it's sort of the game that you
- 6:47Speaker 4: know is sort of your last stand, you have these
- 6:51Speaker 4: kind of games where players there's no protecting themselves.
- 6:54Speaker 6: They're going all out. The Christian Kirk play.
- 6:56Speaker 3: What an effort, but the effort resulted in injury cause
- 7:02Speaker 3: you're just maxing out and now you're basically redlining.
- 7:06Speaker 6: I I d it. It was too bad for this
- 7:10Speaker 6: team that they didn't get that one yesterday. They deserved it,
- 7:12Speaker 6: They played well enough to get it. But the injuries
- 7:15Speaker 6: coming out of it, and the the.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Gut punch that it was, it just feels like it's
- 7:20Speaker 3: gonna be tough to come back from that.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Injuries being the major.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Reason stay with a theor on jag Zam. We're gonna
- 7:26Speaker 1: look back at the tape against the Packers in the
- 7:28Speaker 1: last second loss. Welcome back into jag Zam this morning,
- 7:40Speaker 1: brought to you by Fields Auto Group. Time to look
- 7:42Speaker 1: at some of the tape from yesterday. A frustrating loss
- 7:46Speaker 1: for this team, I mean, fall to two and six
- 7:49Speaker 1: on the season, so lots of questions. Let's look at
- 7:52Speaker 1: some of the tape room yesterday. We start out okay,
- 7:56Speaker 1: we started out not great on offense, but the defense,
- 7:58Speaker 1: you know, gotta stop on their first position, and then
- 8:00Speaker 1: they got a turnover in the second quarter, Jaron Jones
- 8:02Speaker 1: gets his first career interception. You felt like that was
- 8:04Speaker 1: maybe a little bit of momentum, Ryan like, hey, I
- 8:07Speaker 1: did get the you know what did we talk about
- 8:08Speaker 1: the Packers turn the ball over, use that as an
- 8:11Speaker 1: opportunity to get the offense going. Great to see there,
- 8:13Speaker 1: especially because some of the secondary play has been questionable
- 8:16Speaker 1: for the scene. To see Jaron Jones step up was
- 8:17Speaker 1: nice well, and we.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Talked about taking advantage of the balls that would be
- 8:21Speaker 4: thrown your way because Jordan Love is a quarterback that
- 8:24Speaker 4: will take chances. And you felt like Okay, you just
- 8:26Speaker 4: stopped a scoring drive. Great for the defense. Unfortunately then
- 8:30Speaker 4: the offense couldn't capitalize.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah, the whole first quarter to me was lost momentum,
- 8:36Speaker 3: lost opportunity, mainly because of the Logan Cook punt. He
- 8:41Speaker 3: gets off an unbelievable punt seventy five yards, gets the
- 8:43Speaker 3: Packers out of bounds on their own two. They can't move.
- 8:47Speaker 3: They then do it again and get the Packers on
- 8:50Speaker 3: their own seven. Never could take advantage of that field position.
- 8:53Speaker 3: It was still zero zero after that exchange. I know
- 8:55Speaker 3: the NFL is not a field position game anymore. It
- 8:58Speaker 3: used to be Brian that sort of thing. It was
- 9:00Speaker 3: the whole league. But in that moment, I thought boy
- 9:04Speaker 3: and the interceptions were part of that. When they didn't
- 9:07Speaker 3: get up at that point, all of a sudden, they
- 9:11Speaker 3: were playing uphill the whole rest of the game, when
- 9:13Speaker 3: they had sort of earned to be playing downhill.
- 9:15Speaker 6: Sa if the offense couldn't score.
- 9:16Speaker 4: So they flipped it. You know, hidden yards aren't really
- 9:18Speaker 4: a stat, but they were plus twenty five after the
- 9:20Speaker 4: punt and then forcing them to punt, getting the ball
- 9:21Speaker 4: at midfield. This isn't a team with a big enough
- 9:24Speaker 4: margin for error to miss that.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Opportunity, they need to take advantage, and as we talked about,
- 9:29Speaker 1: getting that interception and then immediately turning the ball back
- 9:31Speaker 1: over to green Bay early on in that game, kind
- 9:34Speaker 1: of gift wrapping them a touchdown after that point because
- 9:36Speaker 1: of the field position at the point of these turnovers.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Obviously we know wherever Trevor was trying to go with
- 9:42Speaker 1: that ball. I don't know if it was Christian Kirker,
- 9:44Speaker 1: if there was a route issue where people were at
- 9:46Speaker 1: on it to intercept the ball, and then both of
- 9:49Speaker 1: Trevor's turnovers unfortunately very very bad yardage to give them
- 9:53Speaker 1: a place on the field to make it an easy
- 9:55Speaker 1: touchdown for green Bay after that.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not sure who was wrong there, but I
- 9:59Speaker 6: don't think the play was.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I'm for Christian and to be holding hands at that point,
- 10:04Speaker 3: sou With interceptions like that, I always had to say, hey,
- 10:10Speaker 3: that's on this guy until I know.
- 10:13Speaker 6: But it was huge.
- 10:15Speaker 3: I mean it, they had a chance to sort of
- 10:17Speaker 3: get out from under field position and Tryan had given
- 10:21Speaker 3: them a really nice break that you didn't expect.
- 10:25Speaker 6: I wasn't nuts about the interference called to a touchdown.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Unline Eric I'm not sure that that was.
- 10:33Speaker 3: It just seems every yeah, every time the balls in
- 10:39Speaker 3: the air, aren't you holding your breath for a flag?
- 10:42Speaker 3: It's and that may have been interference, but it just
- 10:45Speaker 3: seems like I wasn't sure about that.
- 10:49Speaker 4: He leaned into him, He dodged reverse the route, and
- 10:52Speaker 4: Montera had no time to adjust whatsoever. He just leaned
- 10:54Speaker 4: into him. It was a heads up play by a receiver.
- 10:59Speaker 4: He got the benefit of call.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Frustrating for Montera cause I feel like he's been playing
- 11:02Speaker 1: well too and he's not gonna get those calls. I
- 11:04Speaker 1: don't think at this point talk a little bit about
- 11:08Speaker 1: the offense. When they did get going a big pass
- 11:10Speaker 1: to Kirk over the middle, then getting their first score
- 11:13Speaker 1: of the game. Ch it's frustrating when they don't get
- 11:16Speaker 1: the start. But then I will give Trevor credit for
- 11:19Speaker 1: bouncing back. And I don't know if it was just
- 11:20Speaker 1: the scripted plays they were having an issue with. They
- 11:22Speaker 1: simplified it after the fact and that's what got them
- 11:24Speaker 1: going a little bit. But you see what he's teams
- 11:27Speaker 1: will and maybe that's why I get so frustrated because
- 11:29Speaker 1: we see these other plays and you're like, why didn't
- 11:31Speaker 1: we do that to you know, why do we do
- 11:32Speaker 1: that to start?
- 11:33Speaker 4: Like, and you're not gonna go see that from Kirk, Yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 4: you're not. And there's a couple more.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It's he had some catches in this game, and you're
- 11:39Speaker 1: you realize the role he felt he has on this
- 11:42Speaker 1: team and it's gonna be.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Taking well to hell, we saw last year what it
- 11:44Speaker 4: meant when he wasn't on the field.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Yeah, a couple of I thought, Trevor again, I feel
- 11:49Speaker 3: better about Trevor after that game yesterday that I had
- 11:51Speaker 3: in his career.
- 11:52Speaker 6: I think he.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Had some moments that was really impressed with. At the
- 11:57Speaker 3: same time, I wonder if you're gonna see it because
- 12:02Speaker 3: this kid, Christian Kirk, is the guy that gets this
- 12:04Speaker 3: thing going. It's the guy that they lean on when
- 12:08Speaker 3: things are stagnant.
- 12:09Speaker 6: To have it not be stagnant.
- 12:12Speaker 3: It's going to be a challenge for them to find
- 12:14Speaker 3: something to spark them the way he does.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Maybe this guy does it right getting fired up.
- 12:19Speaker 6: That's nice.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Yes, Traver's reaction here remember this because I'm going to
- 12:24Speaker 4: talk about it in my hot egg. But his reaction
- 12:26Speaker 4: here on their sideline I thought was a good sign.
- 12:29Speaker 1: It's good to see it. Also, let's talk about this
- 12:32Speaker 1: touchdown to Brian Thomas Junior, big catch by Christian Kirk,
- 12:34Speaker 1: a drive to set that all up again. We're not
- 12:36Speaker 1: gonna have Kirk for a while, so not to be
- 12:38Speaker 1: the dead horse, it's unfortunate, but he what he brings
- 12:41Speaker 1: to the team, and then also opening things up for
- 12:43Speaker 1: Brian Thomas and what he was able to do with.
- 12:46Speaker 4: The touchdown catch.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I mean, he makes those plays look really simple. And
- 12:50Speaker 1: I think we don't know the extent of Brian Thomas's injury,
- 12:53Speaker 1: how much time, if time, he will miss, but what
- 12:56Speaker 1: the office is going to look like without Christian out there.
- 12:58Speaker 3: For Brian, the focus will into yeah, and he'll have
- 13:02Speaker 3: to beat more doubles. It'll be more obvious that you
- 13:07Speaker 3: have to take him away. Gabe Davis, I'm not sure
- 13:10Speaker 3: the extent of his but hasn't really shown that he
- 13:13Speaker 3: can draw anything away from Brian Thomas yet, So it's
- 13:19Speaker 3: going to be a challenge to find another guy they
- 13:23Speaker 3: can depend on that. I will say this, I'm more encouraged.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I think they have a better backup plan for Christian
- 13:33Speaker 3: than they do any other spot. Parker Washington has shown
- 13:37Speaker 3: signs that it's not absurd to think in two or
- 13:40Speaker 3: three weeks that we could be looking at this and saying, Okay,
- 13:42Speaker 3: well this kid can do it. He's done enough. But
- 13:45Speaker 3: his challenge is going to be can he be that
- 13:49Speaker 3: guy when they need him rather than when he's not
- 13:52Speaker 3: being guarded. Can he be Christian Kirk in terms of
- 13:56Speaker 3: really getting them going the way he did? That's what
- 13:59Speaker 3: we don't know.
- 14:00Speaker 4: He's not as smooth as Christian, but he's a sudden player, yeah,
- 14:03Speaker 4: and he can get separation and create plays for himself
- 14:07Speaker 4: with his own natural ability. He just doesn't have the
- 14:09Speaker 4: time on task or like Christian, the relationship with the quarterback,
- 14:13Speaker 4: so it's going to take time to develop.
- 14:15Speaker 6: It will be interesting though.
- 14:16Speaker 1: We've seen the explosiveness from Parker, which is exciting that
- 14:18Speaker 1: maybe Christian Kirk doesn't always have, and obviously in that
- 14:20Speaker 1: punt return and what he's able to do with his speed,
- 14:22Speaker 1: so that will be interesting to see with a little
- 14:25Speaker 1: more time actually playing what he'll be able to do.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Talk a little bit about Malik Williams coming into the game. Obviously,
- 14:29Speaker 1: Jordan Love didn't really look himself for most of the game,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and then eventually leaving and then Malik Wilson Josh Jacobs
- 14:35Speaker 1: just running all over the place. The defense could not
- 14:37Speaker 1: corral them. And is this just is this fatigue? Is
- 14:43Speaker 1: not discipline? What's going on with the tackling.
- 14:45Speaker 4: It listening at this point, There's two things going on.
- 14:47Speaker 4: One is, Malik Willis has fresh legs because he's been
- 14:50Speaker 4: watching for two and a half quarters on an eighty
- 14:52Speaker 4: five degree day. It was warm out there, as you
- 14:54Speaker 4: guys know. The other part of it is he's a
- 14:56Speaker 4: completely different kind of quarterback and he's more of a
- 14:58Speaker 4: zone read guy than you saw there. Andre Cisco froze
- 15:01Speaker 4: in the hole because he was focused on the quarterback
- 15:05Speaker 4: and that just the stop right there allowed Jacobs to
- 15:08Speaker 4: get beyond him and get to the outside.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you didn't game plan for anything that they gave
- 15:13Speaker 3: you after Jacobs out of the game. That's not an excuse.
- 15:18Speaker 3: It was still a poor performance or not they effort,
- 15:22Speaker 3: but that certainly felt like a team had least started
- 15:28Speaker 3: the game, probably around the second quarter, you would have
- 15:32Speaker 3: seen the Jaguars adjust to what they were doing. He
- 15:34Speaker 3: didn't start the game, so you had sort of adjustment
- 15:37Speaker 3: period through the end of the game and then by
- 15:39Speaker 3: the end they ran a great play at the end
- 15:41Speaker 3: based off of what they'd been doing.
- 15:43Speaker 6: They really fooled them. So it was a.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Credit to the Packers, I mean another team. They overcame the
- 15:52Speaker 3: moment or took advantage of the moment much better than
- 15:54Speaker 3: Jaguars did.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I think. I know the fans have some coaching concerns
- 15:58Speaker 1: with certain things of the Jaguar. I'm sure that's part
- 16:00Speaker 1: of the frustration. You're not seeing in game adjustments to
- 16:04Speaker 1: things like that. And I understand that you know, you
- 16:06Speaker 1: didn't plan for the backup quarterback, but there's no it
- 16:08Speaker 1: didn't seem there was a defensive adjustments at any point
- 16:11Speaker 1: when he started running like that Trevor Lawrence turnover the fumble.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We haven't seen him fumble much this year, but very
- 16:18Speaker 1: inopportune time, very inopportune place on the field setting up
- 16:22Speaker 1: a touchdown, and that that was for them to come
- 16:26Speaker 1: back and tie the game. After this, I was impressed
- 16:28Speaker 1: with because this I thought was going to be it.
- 16:30Speaker 1: This was the moment that it was like, oh, they'll
- 16:32Speaker 1: go up, you know, and.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Listen this week he talked about why he hadn't fumbled,
- 16:39Speaker 4: and he talked about ball security, escaping the pocket, getting
- 16:43Speaker 4: both hands on the ball, and not becoming a passer
- 16:46Speaker 4: again until he was clear. Well, as you can see,
- 16:49Speaker 4: he drops his right hand trying to shed the defender
- 16:51Speaker 4: and leaves the ball just hanging out there. You know,
- 16:54Speaker 4: you'd like to say, well, have it up higher in
- 16:55Speaker 4: the air, right it doesn't get hit, But he doesn't.
- 16:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I d and it was costly.
- 17:04Speaker 3: With this situation, My thought was a Packers, We're going
- 17:08Speaker 3: to get the ball on around the fifty and probably
- 17:10Speaker 3: get points. So I don't know that it absolutely defined
- 17:15Speaker 3: the game. I also don't know. I feel like Brian,
- 17:22Speaker 3: this is the eighth game and its first time this
- 17:24Speaker 3: has happened this year. It doesn't feel like it's been
- 17:27Speaker 3: a trend this year. As we talked about before the show,
- 17:29Speaker 3: He's not going to go the rest of his career
- 17:31Speaker 3: and never fumbling, So I don't know that this is
- 17:35Speaker 3: as much part of his overall trend. No, I'm going
- 17:38Speaker 3: to hope and think that it's a one of those
- 17:42Speaker 3: things that happens during the course of this year. And
- 17:44Speaker 3: I was more impressed with what he did after this
- 17:46Speaker 3: than anything I've seen in his career so far.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Lookten I'm with you on that. I don't think it's
- 17:49Speaker 4: a trend. I think he has overcome that. But perception
- 17:52Speaker 4: being reality, Sure, this team is three and eleven in
- 17:54Speaker 4: their last fourteen games, and they have seen we haven't
- 17:57Speaker 4: been able to shed that losing at the end of
- 17:59Speaker 4: the right because we started it right up this year
- 18:02Speaker 4: and that was commonplace last year. So it seems like
- 18:05Speaker 4: it's just a continuation. It's not.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Oh, it's a fair analysis. I just have seen different
- 18:14Speaker 3: stuff from him that I don't think this is part
- 18:17Speaker 3: of it anymore. And it's too bad this happen.
- 18:19Speaker 4: But to the average person who's watching, it's tough to
- 18:22Speaker 4: delineate that the quarterback has made that kind of progress.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Let's talk about that drive, John, because I was impressed
- 18:27Speaker 1: with what he was able to do setting up that touchdown,
- 18:29Speaker 1: that throw to Evan Ingram to get the touchdown to score.
- 18:33Speaker 1: What was so special about it, in your mind, was
- 18:34Speaker 1: at the time of the game that command that he had.
- 18:36Speaker 1: What about it?
- 18:37Speaker 3: Well, I was impressed with a couple of things. I
- 18:38Speaker 3: was impressed with the earlier drive as well. The third
- 18:40Speaker 3: quarter drive felt like the same thing. Able to stay
- 18:43Speaker 3: calm when they needed plays, clearly on this drive. I
- 18:51Speaker 3: give the Packers a bit of benefit of it out
- 18:53Speaker 3: You're not expecting to be playing twelve personnel in this situation,
- 18:57Speaker 3: so the Packers probably were not quite sure where they're
- 19:00Speaker 3: going with the ball.
- 19:01Speaker 6: But Trevor threw to the open.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Guy and he on the plate to Darnis Johnson poise
- 19:09Speaker 3: playmaking ability. He seemed to relax and just play football.
- 19:17Speaker 3: It seemed like backyard stuff. I like that because you
- 19:21Speaker 3: haven't seen all that from Trevor. Sometimes he's a little mechanical.
- 19:24Speaker 3: This was him playing football. And I'm gonna tell Evan
- 19:28Speaker 3: at some point this week, that's the best catch I've
- 19:30Speaker 3: seen since.
- 19:30Speaker 6: Eve been backing Jackson.
- 19:31Speaker 4: That's a great catch.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Triple coverage. Well, it's too bad is in that moment.
- 19:36Speaker 3: You play football, and Evan loves playing football. You play
- 19:39Speaker 3: football to be in those moments to make those plays
- 19:43Speaker 3: that should have been remembered as one of the best
- 19:45Speaker 3: catches in franchise history.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Just a quick point. No, Christian Kirk, No, Brian Thomas Jr. No,
- 19:51Speaker 4: Travis Etn. Right, I mean the Etn is one of
- 19:54Speaker 4: the team's biggest playmakers.
- 19:56Speaker 6: He didn't have any of.
- 19:57Speaker 4: Them on that drive, and he found Bretton strange Dearnest Johnson.
- 20:02Speaker 4: He was willing to go to whomever was open, and
- 20:05Speaker 4: it was a great drive for him. It's one of
- 20:06Speaker 4: the reasons why I came out of this game thinking
- 20:09Speaker 4: that he was ready.
- 20:10Speaker 3: And I've thought for a couple of years I love
- 20:13Speaker 3: Evan Ingram, I've thought he was a solid tight end.
- 20:16Speaker 3: I did not know if he was in above the
- 20:19Speaker 3: x's and o's Playmak, because they haven't seen him.
- 20:21Speaker 6: Do you know that was as above a the x's
- 20:22Speaker 6: and o's.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I'm telling you that should have gone up with on
- 20:27Speaker 3: the rushmore of plays in franchise history. And I'm not
- 20:29Speaker 3: trying to exaggerate it. In terms of bigness, it wasn't,
- 20:32Speaker 3: but in terms of what he did on the play and.
- 20:34Speaker 6: At timing it was.
- 20:37Speaker 3: I was disappointed for them that they didn't get a
- 20:40Speaker 3: chance to close that and make that one of the
- 20:42Speaker 3: moments of this You'll.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Remember it, John, I feel like you are always the
- 20:46Speaker 1: one that says it. He operates best when he can
- 20:48Speaker 1: go to whoever's open and find a target, not feel
- 20:51Speaker 1: like he's obligated to anybody, and when they run simpler
- 20:53Speaker 1: plays like that they're doing the hurry up things like that.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Trevor really shines and it's I don't know if there's
- 20:59Speaker 1: a way to do it or earlier in the game.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I don't know if you just simplify easier said than done.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I am not a coach. Yeah, I just they do.
- 21:04Speaker 1: They look so good in those moments, and you just think,
- 21:07Speaker 1: why can not.
- 21:08Speaker 6: Some of it?
- 21:09Speaker 3: Like this, You're in a rhythm now, the game's going.
- 21:15Speaker 3: You know, you've got some dirt in your eye, so
- 21:17Speaker 3: to speak, so you're not thinking as much and you're
- 21:22Speaker 3: just playing. So I think you sit there some of that,
- 21:24Speaker 3: but you absolutely it's up to the coaches to look
- 21:27Speaker 3: at this and say, okay, well there were four or
- 21:30Speaker 3: five drives or two or three. I also thought Brian
- 21:33Speaker 3: the drive right before the touchdown drive. It gets kind
- 21:37Speaker 3: of lost when they went and get the field goal.
- 21:39Speaker 3: They had two really good drives against a really good
- 21:41Speaker 3: defense when they had to have it. You've got to
- 21:45Speaker 3: channel some of that and figure out why he's so
- 21:48Speaker 3: good in that situation.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Kay, we'll look at the game winner and then just
- 21:52Speaker 1: the pass that set things up. Obviously frustration for the defense,
- 21:55Speaker 1: you know, for us seeing that and giving up the
- 21:58Speaker 1: big play has been an issue all a year long,
- 22:00Speaker 1: and again the safety play. I think it has been
- 22:01Speaker 1: one of the major concerns Andre Cisco's that he cramped
- 22:04Speaker 1: up on that one. Looked like he wasn't necessarily the
- 22:07Speaker 1: right spot to begin with, and I don't know how
- 22:10Speaker 1: you fix it at this point. I know you would
- 22:11Speaker 1: like Andrew Winger come back, hopefully, but it's just been
- 22:14Speaker 1: whoever's in the safety spot. It seems like they're having
- 22:16Speaker 1: an issue. I don't know if that's a scheme. I
- 22:17Speaker 1: don't know what you can blame that off. The players
- 22:20Speaker 1: themselves not making plays, but just frustrating. It feels like
- 22:22Speaker 1: it's always coming down to that.
- 22:24Speaker 3: On that specific play, that was the old Houston Texans
- 22:27Speaker 3: play action where you go one way and then you
- 22:29Speaker 3: get a guy coming out.
- 22:31Speaker 6: Everybody's running one way with the flow.
- 22:34Speaker 3: The Texans with Kubiak used to run it all the
- 22:36Speaker 3: time and it's a devastating play.
- 22:37Speaker 6: They hadn't run it yet. It tricked him.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Andre said after the game he'd been cramping again with
- 22:45Speaker 3: hydration and then as soon as he tried to open
- 22:48Speaker 3: up what's gonna happen again, his legs locked I have
- 22:51Speaker 3: no reason to doubt that it looked like the play
- 22:54Speaker 3: was probably going to work regardless of that, but difficult situation.
- 23:00Speaker 6: It's uh, as I.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Wrote, safety play has been an issue even beyond that
- 23:05Speaker 3: play inconsistent and unreliable.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Say let's here, We're gonna have some hot tapes coming

- 23:36Speaker 7: Doug Trevor leads the eighty seven yard drive to tie
- 23:39Speaker 7: the game without the top three receivers going into today.
- 23:44Speaker 7: What did he kind of show you there on being
- 23:46Speaker 7: able to guide the team down obviously down his top
- 23:49Speaker 7: three receivers.
- 23:52Speaker 8: I think, I think, yeah, he did a nice job.
- 23:54Speaker 8: I give a credit to those those receivers, those tight
- 23:57Speaker 8: ends in the offensive line, that was those guys. They
- 24:02Speaker 8: made plays for him right now. He made some really
- 24:05Speaker 8: good throws and all of that. But those guys that
- 24:09Speaker 8: were playing at the end of the game, when you're
- 24:11Speaker 8: down your top three receivers and and you know you're
- 24:17Speaker 8: playing in your your twelve personnel for the rest of
- 24:20Speaker 8: the game, that's that's tough. But the guys battled their
- 24:23Speaker 8: tails off got us back to tying this football game
- 24:26Speaker 8: with a chance to you know, potentially win it there late.
- 24:28Speaker 8: So hats off for those guys.
- 24:33Speaker 1: TEG Peterson talking. I wanted to play that because I
- 24:35Speaker 1: saw this question answer on social media a lot. He's
- 24:38Speaker 1: Caroline asking about Trevor's performance in the fourth quarter and
- 24:41Speaker 1: Doug kind of not praising Trevor necessarily kind of talking
- 24:45Speaker 1: about the players around him. I think we've talked about
- 24:48Speaker 1: what Trevor was able to do on the drive, very impressive.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I didn't really take it that way. I don't know
- 24:51Speaker 1: if you guys did, but or if it's just getting
- 24:53Speaker 1: a little network at this.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Point, had he come out and praised Trevor, he'd have
- 24:58Speaker 3: been criticized for praising him at Tree fumbled, So I didn't.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I didn't take it anyway until I started reading other
- 25:06Speaker 3: people taking it that way.
- 25:08Speaker 6: So I didn't feel that one right.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I shall hear it either, So I just I
- 25:14Speaker 1: just wanted to play that out and see what everybody's.
- 25:16Speaker 6: Thoughts on it were.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We're gonna do some hot takes here, brought to you
- 25:18Speaker 1: by Firehouse Subs. Brian, What is your hot take? Because
- 25:21Speaker 1: I know it is about Truh.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Yeah, Trevor took a step forward, you know. I know
- 25:25Speaker 4: he had the interception, but then he scored ten points
- 25:28Speaker 4: and got them within a field goal at the end
- 25:30Speaker 4: of the first half, and then in the third quarter
- 25:32Speaker 4: he has the fumble and comes back and ties the
- 25:35Speaker 4: game with two minutes left to play. I love the
- 25:38Speaker 4: emotion after the touchdown. I want to see a little
- 25:41Speaker 4: of that from him that I hate to lose. I
- 25:44Speaker 4: hadn't seen enough of it. I think he's too chill,
- 25:48Speaker 4: in my opinion, too often on the sideline.
- 25:50Speaker 6: And where the ones are supposed to be chilled. Right, Yeah,
- 25:52Speaker 6: well you are.
- 25:54Speaker 4: No one's ever called me that. But then the play
- 25:57Speaker 4: that I loved the most was the fourth down conversion
- 25:59Speaker 4: where he wouldn't be stopped and I hadn't seen that
- 26:01Speaker 4: from him. We've been told over and over that's not
- 26:03Speaker 4: what he does. We don't like to do this. The
- 26:05Speaker 4: quarterback sneak with him. It's just not his thing. He
- 26:09Speaker 4: did it with authority, and that was when I thought,
- 26:11Speaker 4: this is a good game for Trevor despite the mistakes.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I get it, he's not gonna be perfect, but he's
- 26:17Speaker 4: a young quarterback still. You look at Jordan Love, right,
- 26:20Speaker 4: he's in his fifth season. He sat on the bench
- 26:21Speaker 4: for three years. Trevor didn't have that. We're starting to
- 26:24Speaker 4: see some signs from Trevor the last couple of weeks
- 26:26Speaker 4: that are really good, really positive. Sadly, there's injuries and
- 26:29Speaker 4: the season seems lost, but I like what it's all.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I went with such a shame or what a shame,
- 26:37Speaker 3: sort of playing into Trevor a little bit as well,
- 26:40Speaker 3: a what a shame the season has turned out this way,
- 26:43Speaker 3: but specific to yesterday, What a shame that the Evan
- 26:48Speaker 3: Ingram play that last drive. It should have been something
- 26:53Speaker 3: with a season like this, it's not gonna go into
- 26:55Speaker 3: Jaguars loar. But you're playing without Christian Kirk, without Brian
- 26:59Speaker 3: Tom I mean out Brian Thomas.
- 27:00Speaker 6: Without Gave Davis or Daniell.
- 27:04Speaker 3: All this stuff. This was sort of, you know, mythical stuff.
- 27:10Speaker 3: If you can be mythical three and five, right, So
- 27:13Speaker 3: it was a shame that they didn't get to close
- 27:16Speaker 3: that out because I really thought the comeback, the grit.
- 27:19Speaker 3: You came back twice from ten point deficits, that felt
- 27:23Speaker 3: like something to build on. Unfortunately, to me, it feels
- 27:26Speaker 3: like we we're talking about during a break. It feels
- 27:30Speaker 3: like one of the late rounds of a boxing match.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I don't know if they can come back from this.
- 27:34Speaker 4: I hope they can, but listen, we have to see
- 27:36Speaker 4: some signs of that beaure. That's all we can put
- 27:38Speaker 4: our hat on this year. You've got to have something
- 27:40Speaker 4: that you can go forward with. It's much much more
- 27:43Speaker 4: beneficial for this team to have that then to say, well,
- 27:47Speaker 4: I don't know whether we've got our guy. I think
- 27:49Speaker 4: yesterday you found out you do.
- 27:51Speaker 6: I felt like it.
- 27:52Speaker 1: And the way he continues through the season I think
- 27:54Speaker 1: will be important to mine is similar similar John that
- 27:57Speaker 1: said it was a good run, maybe the last stand.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I know, John, we were kind of talking about this
- 28:00Speaker 1: in the earlier in the show. It's felt like they
- 28:03Speaker 1: were going on It felt like they felt this was
- 28:05Speaker 1: their last stand as well, and unfortunately they didn't come
- 28:08Speaker 1: out with the win. And that kind of is gonna
- 28:10Speaker 1: affect the rest of your season because as well as
- 28:11Speaker 1: you play going forward, you know, we've seen them run
- 28:14Speaker 1: the table obviously make the playoffs before, but it just
- 28:16Speaker 1: doesn't have that feel right now, and it's I would
- 28:18Speaker 1: love to be wrong, I hope I am, but we
- 28:20Speaker 1: haven't seen that from them. So for me, it's gonna
- 28:22Speaker 1: be seeing the character of your team, seeing what you
- 28:24Speaker 1: have here that you want to keep and work with
- 28:26Speaker 1: going forward, and seeing what doesn't work, and affecting that
- 28:29Speaker 1: change in the off season, because clearly the way things
- 28:31Speaker 1: are operating right right now is not the way that
- 28:34Speaker 1: they need to operate if they want to win. So
- 28:36Speaker 1: stay with us here. We've got a whole week. We
- 28:38Speaker 1: are not giving up on.
- 28:38Speaker 6: You, guys.
- 28:39Speaker 4: We will be here for sure.
- 28:40Speaker 1: We have many more games this season. We'll tell you
- 28:42Speaker 1: what's coming up the rest of this week. Tags fans,

- 29:06Speaker 9: One of the best teammates I've ever had, never been around,
- 29:10Speaker 9: one of the smartest players I've been around, and then
- 29:14Speaker 9: you know, one of the greatest best leaders I've been around.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Uh you saw him cut up.
- 29:18Speaker 9: The day too. He was rolling, he was getting going,
- 29:21Speaker 9: and it's just just a very unfortunate uh event.
- 29:25Speaker 6: God.
- 29:26Speaker 9: You know, God doesn't make mistakes. There's a plan, as
- 29:29Speaker 9: Will is better than any any of ours can imagine.
- 29:31Speaker 9: So he'll be just for me.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It's even ingram talking about Christian Kirk, his leadership on
- 29:38Speaker 1: the team, what he's able to do on the field
- 29:40Speaker 1: as well. Looks like he's gonna be out for the
- 29:42Speaker 1: rest of the season as a broken collarbone via reports. Uh,
- 29:45Speaker 1: we'll get that officially confirmed when Doug Peterson talks later today.
- 29:48Speaker 1: But this gives opportunity. Let's look on the positive side
- 29:51Speaker 1: here without you know, we have seen several key injuries
- 29:54Speaker 1: on offense. Who are you looking at maybe can step
- 29:56Speaker 1: up big one.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Well, we talked about Parker Washington being a guy I
- 29:59Speaker 4: I fact I asked him this week in the locker
- 30:01Speaker 4: room for radio interview if his punt return gave him
- 30:04Speaker 4: the confidence that he was ready for a bigger role
- 30:06Speaker 4: in the offense, and he mentioned the fact that it
- 30:08Speaker 4: was tough for them to find room for him with
- 30:10Speaker 4: Christian Kirk. Well, it just so happens now they're going
- 30:12Speaker 4: to need to I think he's ready to step up.
- 30:15Speaker 6: Yeah, he's flashed enough to give you hope.
- 30:17Speaker 3: He's had over the course of his career four or
- 30:20Speaker 3: five plays that have been nice catches, moments, the quickness
- 30:26Speaker 3: he talked about Brian. He's a guy that they think
- 30:29Speaker 3: can be a good player for him and a productive player,
- 30:32Speaker 3: and it's going to be his time.
- 30:34Speaker 1: We'll keep an eye on things. We'll hear from Doug
- 30:36Speaker 1: Peterson later today so we can update on those injuries,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and we'll be back with you on Wednesday here on
- 30:40Speaker 1: Jack bad
